The Rule Of St. Benedict And Beowulf
The Rule of St. Benedict and Beowulf both provide images of an ideal ruler and an ideal subject. For
the Rule of St. Benedict, they are the good abbot and the proper monk. In Beowulf, the good warrior
king and the loyal members of his warrior band. These images of the ruler and subject of each book
are very similar and different as well as show the bad view of rulers and subjects and the books show
the value systems of those writing the texts. These pieces of literature, how different they may seem,
are relatively alike. First and foremost, they are alike in the ways of how they present their ruler. In
Beowulf, King Hrothgar is wise as he gives his sermon to Beowulf.
At last his part of pride within him waxes and climbs, the watchman of the soul slumbering the while.
That sleep is too deep, tangled in its cares! Too close is the slayer who shoots the wicked shaft from
his bow! For all his armour he is unable to protect himself: the insidious bolt buries in his chest, the
crooked counsels of the accursed one (63)
Which warns of the dangers of pride and fame which is something that an abbot was supposed to say
towards a monk. Another way their rulers are somewhat similar is that they are both known to be
father figures. Abbots are supposed to be devoted and tender as only a father can be, as they say in The
Rule of St. Benedict which is much like Beowulf as King Hrothgar gives him fatherly advice. They
are also similar on how they present their subjects. Both books

The For The Homeless Population
Introduction The population I chose for this treatment group is the homeless population with a focus
on life skills; more specifically with barriers to employment. The general population puts unrealistic
expectations upon the homeless rather than meeting them with empathy and realistic support. Having
a support group for the homeless population to talk to one another is beneficial in numerous ways. The
group members can share tips and tricks, can validate one another, can build a sense of belonging and
camaraderie, and the group could provide a safe outlet to learn, on their own terms, basic life skills to
improve the populations day to day struggles. People often times believe the homeless are lazy and
say why don t they just find a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Life skills as a treatment approach for the homeless population in a group setting has the possibility of
having a large variety of levels of societal functioning. For example, we could have a group with a
range of very low functioning adults that suffer from mental illness or developmental disabilities or
very high functioning adults that may suffer from substance abuse or job loss. This range of members
could prove to motivate or hinder progress depending on what type of members join and where they
are in knowledge and skills pertaining to independetn living. Exclusions from the group would be
active substance users, if under the age of eighteen, if miss more than two sessions with inadequate
excuse. I also would address a late policy as to not miss too much of each session and as it would be a
distraction to other members. Instructor preparation for this group would be securing a location to
conduct the group, exploring the community to find resources and talk to agencies that can support the
group or offer services available. The instructor would need to identify transportation opportunities
and limitations and possibly partner with a local homeless shelter or food pantry to recruit
participants. The ideal length of the treatment would be twelve weeks with weekly sessions lasting
two to three hours depending on group size. Ideally the group would be coed with members that are 18
or older and at least six

Biometric And Identification Of Biometric Identification
Biometric methodologies emerged into existence in 1858 by use of recording hand images for
identification purposes. From 1858 to 1896 studies progressed in the identification of individuals by
hand geometry, a person s measurements, and fingerprints. From the year 1936 to 1985 biometric
studies proceeded for iris pattern, face recognition, acoustic speech, written signature, and hand
identification. Patents for hand and iris identification became a reality 1985 to 1986 and in 1988 the
first semi automated facial recognition system was deployed. By 1991 face recognition is automated
with the ability of detecting faces in real time. By the mid to late 1990 s biometric methodologies
evolves and is integrated into technology allowing the practice of fingerprint, palm systems, and iris
identification to become more reliable with increased automation capabilities. Studies therefore
increased and biometric technology became even more advanced in the early 2000 s up until today s
time.
There are now about 14 different types of biometric technologies that exist today. These biometric
technologies are DNA, Iris, Retina, face, fingerprint, finger geometry, hand geometry, odor, typing,
vein, voice, and gait recognition which are all techniques of identifying and authenticating individuals
that would provide a more reliable and efficient way of verifying a person identification also
preventing access to unauthorized personnel. Biometric technologies today are becoming less

Analysis Of One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Anti Hero
Strong, kind, brave, generous, honest, righteous, and noble the characteristics of the hero in a story.
The hero is often unmistakable in whatever medium he or she occupies, be it a novel, poem, movie, or
song. He or she is the epitome of the perfect human, the type of person everyone looks up to and
strives to be. In reality, however, these heroes are rare and it is almost impossible to decipher the real
heroes from the people who seem to be heroic. It is in this situation where a new classification is
necessary the anti hero. An anti hero is a central character who lacks the characteristic heroic qualities;
they do seemingly heroic actions for less than righteous motivations. This is not to say that anti heroes
are vile beings incapable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like McMurphy, Luke makes terrible choices that eventually leads to his death. Luke is a war hero, a
man who should be celebrated and saluted wherever he goes, and yet, he chooses to drunkenly cut the
heads off of parking meters, winding up in work farm instead. Luke becomes a hero to his fellow
inmates, much like McMurphy with the patients, emboldening them with his carefree smiles and jests.
It is evident that Luke regrets his choices when he talks to his dying mother; he laments that he tries
but can never stay on the right path (Cool Hand Luke). It is not difficult to discern Luke s American
Dream. He also wants the ideal life of freedom, wealth, and happiness, but, as with McMurphy, he
makes choices that prevent him from achieving said Dream. It is easier to pretend that fictional
characters like McMurphy and Luke are inhumane, much like the murderers and rapists, and should
not be considered as possible paths of life for ourselves or those around us. This is where the concept
of anti hero is relevant, for these characters, however psychopathic or criminal they may be, are
human flawed but still human. No one on this world can to be perfect, for humanity is unique for its
imperfections, its flaws. These characteristics are our strengths but are also our weaknesses. To declare
that we are better than those who have made mistakes, is irresponsible and dangerous. It is imperative
to admit to ourselves that our

The American Dream and College Essay
The American Dream and College
My junior year of high school was filled with high emotions, stressful moments, and tension about
where to apply to college and where I would be accepted and ultimately attend. At a Making the Most
out of your Sixth Semester forum that year, the entire junior class experienced lectures from the
school s college resource counselors about how to prepare for this arduous battle of college
admissions. The way Sue Biermert, who is the College Admissions Counselor at my high school,
opened the forum was by asking a question to the parents that put everything into perspective: How
many of you parents feel like you are successful? Every single hand shot up from the 500 parents in
the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though, the majority of students who go through this inevitable admissions procedure typically do not
meet the Wizard of Oz after traveling the yellow brick road in hopes of being granted their first choice
for higher education.
Sue Biermert explained to our junior class that night that life is about taking risks and facing problem
after problem. It was obviously not getting any easier by applying to colleges. However, this is what
we all had to do in order to feel like our parents in thirty years, because our culture has forced us to be
part of the system of going to some sort of university. She admitted that many of us would feel
rejected, literally and emotionally, in a year from our top choice. Though, one never knows until you
take that leap of faith as she quoted a popular Michael Jordan poster in our Chicago suburban high
school that reads: I miss 100% of all the shots I don t take. Biermert reiterated to us that we were there
that night to be part of the process, therefore we must be willing to tackle the admissions problem
head on and do the best we can.
The admissions process is analyzed by determining what ideal students are, as a more concrete answer
may be deduced about how this admissions game works and how to solve this equation. A profitable
university to try and examine is The George Washington University in Washington D.C., as this is the
university that I am currently attending.

John Ruskin s Impact On Society
To do what one thinks and believes in, regardless of the positive or negative outcome, is very
important in society to create change. This is something people are lacking today. John Ruskin has a
famous quote, supporting this idea. What we think, or what we know, or what we believe is, in the
end, of little consequence. The only consequence is what we do. To start off, society has this idea that
consequences are only negative affects, but really, the definition of consequence is a result or effect of
an action or condition. Using all of that to understand the quote from John Ruskin, I interpreted it in
the way that all people have thoughts, knowledge, and beliefs. But, what the people do with those
thoughts, knowledge, and beliefs, are what will make a change in the end. If no one tells their ideas,
how will anything ever change? A prime example of a person who wasn t afraid to tell their beliefs
would be Martin Luther King Jr. He was not phased by people judging him for his skin color or
beliefs. He just said what he thought was right, and although he died for it, he did change society in a
positive way. I strongly agree with Ruskin s quote because change only occurs when someone goes
out of their way to try and cause it.
Generally speaking, it seems like the most common subjects people are afraid to speak out about is
regarding government and the economy. In 1984 by George Orwell, it shows an entire society who can
not speak out about their beliefs, and if they do

Argentina and north to Central America, Trinidad (West Indies), Mexico,

Killer bees got to these invaded locations because in an effort to increase
honey production 26 swarms of killer bees escaped quarantine since then the
species had spread throughout South America and arrived in north America in 1985.
We have been trying to stop these bees, there are people trying to track them
down and trying to eliminate this species off the planet, we are doing this
because killer bees will kill humans and animals if they intrude their
territory or there area that there home/hive is in. for example the state
senate of texas was on a request for $197,000 to help track down and kill all the Killer Bees.
This species has spread through all these different locations because of them

animals in such locations. Not just that but they also have been

Abbey s Five Senses
In Abbey s Essay, he does a very good job describing all the various objectives and is very inclusive
on using the five senses to describe every detail. In his essay, Abbey describes the sunsets as elaborate
sunsets in every named and unnamed hue of gold, purple, crimson, green, orange, and blue, spread out
for fifty or a hundred miles among the floating ranks of clouds. The inclusiveness of the senses
continues in his description of the sounds or the silence that he hears in the desert. In his essay, he
articulates that Almost every day of the week I have been honored by the serenade of a den of coyotes.
And further on Abbey reveals that the coyote s music sounds like the legendary wail of banshees, or

Antitrust Policy
Throughout mankind existence, civilization has brought many changes that have affected lives. For
some, these changes have brought better condition of living, for others disparities. With the emergence
of industrialization businesses have focused on controlling world market and prices by creating a
monopoly in order to have absolute control, making it almost impossible for competition to survive.
As consumers begin to suffer government were forced to create policies in order to address this
alarming behavior. By the 1890 s U.S gorvernment has introduced legislation of the Interstate
Commerce Act. The Sherman Act of 1890 s regulation of antitrust competition policies was created as

only one that offers Internet and cable services by not allowing competition they are able to charge a
fixed price much higher than neighboring communities that have other carriers to choose from.

Divine Providence In William Bradford s Of Plymouth...
In Of Plymouth Plantation, William Bradford writes of multiple acts of God s divine providence
acting on the Pilgrims during their journey to Virginia and the subsequent founding of Plymouth
Plantation. Bradford s portrayal of events he labels providence, such as the death of the lusty seaman,
the finding of the corn seeds by the exploring party, and the repulse of the Native American attack,
shows his belief that God acted through natural events and reveals aspects of Puritan theology and
thinking.
The first example of providence in all Bradford s journaling is the death of a lusty seaman. In short, a
sailor who was very obnoxious to the seasick pilgrims died in a desperate manner of a grievous
disease (Bradford, Of Plymouth Plantation). For interpreting Bradford s theology, the important part
of this event and how he describes it is that this act was a special work of God s ... Show more content

According to Bradford, the lusty seaman dying of a horrible disease is not merely a random but just
occurrence. It had divine origins and intentions. Prescribing divine purpose to a disease is reflective of
the general pre scientific thought on which the puritan religion was based. The scriptures were not
only a moral code and a theological explanation of man s purpose and origin, but also an explanation
for phenomena like weather, disasters, and disease. This allows Bradford to fill in the gaps in his
understanding with God s unknowable will. Bradford again shows his views on how God exacts His
will when the pilgrims send out the first exploring party under Captain Standish. And here is to be
noted a special providence of God, and a great mercy to this poor people, that here they got seed to
plant them corn the next year (Bradford, Of Plymouth Plantation). The pilgrims took the seed from the
homes of Native Americans, who happened to be absent at the time.

was not a good fit to include in an educational program for primary care providers. The DNP student

Discussion of end of life care rarely occurs in the Haitian household until the patient reaches the
hospital and it is too late. This leads to family members unaware of patient preferences and
unnecessary treatments. The participants knowledge

What Are Gender Roles In Alice Munro s Axis
Alice Munro is an eminent Canadian essayist who has devoted her life to generating fiction, short
stories that deal with recurrent events among today s society. She is best known for being awarded a
Nobel Prize in Literature, the most prestigious award for a writer, in 2013. One of her popular short
stories titled, Axis, centers around the lives of two close, intelligent, University friends and the
progression of their lives. Although it seemed that both girls had a lot of good going for them, it
appears that the main goal for attending the university was to find man whom they could marry and

member of the family during a particular day and it clearly distinguishes the roles of the men from the
women. The role of Grace and her boyfriend one of the days was to make strawberry jam, but soon
after they changed. On the day that Grace and Royce had planned to have sex, the mother had to take
the children to a doctor s appointment, the father and brother, were going to work one of the the other
lands that they had across the highway and Royce was in charge of slightly remodeling the tall brick
house (Munro 10). The men were in charge of all the physical labor while the mother was in charge of
running errands with the children. In fact, the story also states that the father and brother relied on the
women who rented out the property to give them water. This exemplifies, the social norms the are
placed among both men and women. Within societies perspective, men are the breadwinners and the
ones in charge of handling any tough physical labor. On the other hand, the role of a woman generally
speaking is that of a housewife or a caregiver, sometimes being a schoolteacher. This is why mothers
are viewed as compassionate, understanding and loving. Fathers are supposed to be tough

The Quality Of A Balance Scorecard
A balance scorecard is an instrument managers use to gauge performance based on significant
performance measures chosen by the manager. Each performance measure can be tailored to meet the
specific needs of any organization. According to Cardinaels and Veen Dirks, firms either have a list of
measures or groups of measures separated into categories to evaluate performance. There are four
common categories that are used to group and describe the different performance measures. The four
categories are financial, customer, internal business, and learning and growth (Cardinaels M.G. van
Veen Dirks, 2010). Cardinaels and Veen Dirks said the financial category concentrates on financial
data like sales margin percentages and sales growth per store. The customer perspective concentrates
on repetitive sales and customer satisfaction. Internal business concentrates on returns to suppliers and
the amount of orders completed. Learning and growth concentrates on the development of employees
how happy employees are with their job. Customer, internal business, and learning and growth
measures are considered to be non financial measures (Cardinaels M.G. van Veen Dirks, 2010).
According to Cardinaels and Veen Dirks, placing performance measures into categories help the
reader make decisions by being able to focus on individual areas rather than each individual measure
to make an overall decision on the performance of the organization as a whole. One good thing about

Can employee morale and productivity be boosted in the work place through various program
incentives? I am proposing that a process be introduced which recognizes individual as well as team
contributions through other means. It has been noted in several readings and throughout companies
that employees with high morale are more productive than those unhappy counterparts. This is also a
way to reduce the cost associated with recruiting and training of new employees replacing those who
lack productivity and morale.
The basic principles of human motivation are a constant. Many employees in companies throughout
pride themselves on a new school approach to employee satisfaction issues. Years ago (and still for
some) the idea of if you don t like it than quit still exist but through the use of the items identified, that
approach wont be necessary. An overwhelming number of surveyed employees have the thought that
this way still exist at many companies. To gain a better understanding of how to motivate employees
to boost morale, management must first understand the basic human needs associated. Many of the
needs are best represented by Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs Pyramid.
Many employers achieve satisfying the first level of needs identified as the physiological through
compensation. The income earned by employee is what is used to take care of needs such as food,
shelter, utilities

Doublespeak In The Mastercard Commercial
The first unethical tactic used in the MasterCard commercial is misleading doublespeak. According to
Larson (1998), doublespeak is language that conceals it underlying meaning in an attempt to
misguide. Doublespeak is manipulative because it allows persuaders to represent themselves with
positive connotations of words when in reality the underlying principle is negative (Paul and Elder,
2012). In the MasterCard commercial, doublespeak is used particularly in the phrase, a free day to
take them all in: priceless. Breaking it down, the word free is misleading because obviously a credit
card has to be paid off. Similarly, the word priceless refers to how it s impossible to put a price on

According to Campbell et. al. (2013), the association principle is defined as a tactic in advertising that
connects a product to a positive cultural value image, even if the value has little to do with the
product. In the World MasterCard commercial, the advertisement creates an enchanted shop where the
woman in the commercial experiences blissful happiness because her family is happy and enjoying
their time together. This creates an association between MasterCard and family values using
enthymeme, which involves argumentation where a premise is filled in by the persuadee (Simons et.
al., 2001). The first premise is that enjoying happy times with family is important, and the conclusion
is that people with the World MasterCard enjoy good times with their family. Given this, the viewer is
prompted to determine that they should have a MasterCard to be happy. People want to fit in and
because our culture often asserts that family is important and should be valued, consumers feel
pressure to get a credit card to experience a better life with their family. Specifically, MasterCard is
subtly claiming that without their credit card, your children won t be laughing and enjoying
themselves, your spouse won t be contentedly sighing, and you won t get any hugs. However, the use
of a credit card has absolutely no bearing a family s affection for each other.

New Market Trends And Strategies Essay
Today, the global business sphere is growing swiftly in terms of organizations and management in
general. New market trends and strategies are being implemented from old fashion to modern ways, in
order to best manage and take control of the organization, along with boosting the employees
confidence. Ever since the dawn of trade and services, the customer has been the main priority in the
promise of a fruitful business. In order to efficiently serve the valuable customer, organizations have
opted to allocate more and more cash towards Research Development in millions of dollars, along
with efficiently knowing when to change management in correspondence with the organization s
progress. This has all helped with an advancement in corporate technology and asset growth in the
desire of pursuing a healthy growth of profits in the long term.
These types of changes today have been essentially globalized, along with organizational adaptation
and control change, both of which strive to sustain the customer s loyalty effectively. Therefore, from
hereon the concept of change can begin. However, when the change in the culture of an organization
occurs for example, the company feels that the activities conducted including changes in Technology,
Business Process, Employees, Method of Appraisal, Rules Management, Methods of Administration,
Recruitment Selection, Job Skill management, among others are continuously damaging the image

Adversity In Harrison Bergeron
Is adversity important in society? Harrison Bergeron is a short story written by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. It is
about a dystopian future that is overly exaggerated as a future for it s ridiculous methods of equality,
such as handicapping someone so they are like everyone else. In The Giver everyone is similar or
transpires to be; competition isn t infatuated for, so no one strives for it. Adversity really isn t
considered a pleasant quality; it more makes you an outcast than anything else; however, adversity
influences the human essence of creativity, improvement, and competition, which all prosper
enjoyment. Jonas, the main character of The Giver, becomes different by being an intellectual (pg.

National School Lunch Program
To start off let me ask the question is there ways to prevent or hinder selling junk food and beverages
to children of legal age to attend school? Yes there are rules that govern the selling of beverages and
food in public schools that are influenced by laws at the following authorities to include federal, state,
and local levels. The National School Lunch Program ( NSLP ) is the federal law that deals with food
and beverages in the public school system. (Econedlink, 2014, pp.1 5). It has certain standards with

The Trail Of Tears
Looking at the background of every great civilization it is very easy to see that every civilization has a
dark past. For example the United States has shameful things to look back on such as slavery and the

country is great and well developed today they all had to do something to get to where they are today.
Italy is one of the most influential countries today. This where Christianity, Mythology, and also it was

Marriage Proposals In Pride And Prejudice
Pride and Prejudice is a novel written by Jane Austen in the Regency Period of England. The book
represents to the reader how females, marriage and social class were viewed at the time, as well as
demonstrates Austen s opinion on these matters in a somewhat satirical sense. The two marriage
proposals in the book towards the lead female character, Elizabeth Bennet, are put forth by Mr Collins
and Mr Darcy, both of whom exaggerate the social norms of the time; as women were not expected to
marry for love, but for financial gain, the terms for both proposals are focused more on the gains of
both the man and the woman rather than true feelings towards the affair. The ridiculed etiquette shows
how Austen held the rules of the time in low regard.
Both proposals comprise of snide comments on Elizabeth s social class and financial situation; Collins
remarks that Elizabeth will inherit only one thousand pounds in the four per cents, which will not be

This, as well as the fact that he inquired after her health is a contrast to the cold, manipulative
character of Mr Collins, who attempts to threaten Elizabeth into marrying him. Likewise, Darcy does
not react well to the rejection to his proposal, as his complexion became pale with anger , and
continues to insult Elizabeth, saying that she is not civil . Therefore, even though the beginning of the
two proposals differed dramatically, the denial of the proposal causes each male to react as if it was
Elizabeth s fault that they were rejected. This ties in to Austen s views of how men at the time were
taught that they could marry any girl if their offer was good enough; this, obviously, is not the case, as
Elizabeth cares more about her feelings than the technicalities of the marriage, and ridicules the
attitudes of men towards

The Fundamental Principles Of Buddhism And Islam
The following paper is going to discuss and describe the fundamental principles of Buddhism and
Islam, consider the common and distinctive attributes and outline their influence and presence in
modern Asia. The notion of religion is the fundamental foundation, and later the central body, for all
past, present and future societies and cultures. The majority of the world s population fabricates their
own unique identity through the values and morals of the religion with which they follow. The present
day allows opportunity for individuals to exercise their religious beliefs openly and with an absence of
discrimination and judgment. Personal beliefs provide guidance and structure in the day to day
lifestyles of those who engage with religion, influencing life choices.
Throughout history it is evident that religion has been utilised as a means to justify actions along with
the restraint of individuals. (Walker, 2012) Buddhism is an avenue of practice and spiritual
development leading to an insight into the true nature of reality. The experience within the Buddhist
tradition, over countless generations has created an incomparable resource for all those who wish to
follow a path a path that ultimately culminates in Nirvana of Enlightenment. (Thebuddhistcentre.com,

Descriptive Essay About Hot Chocolate
Scurrying along the copper colored brick road, people moved their way through the crowd. My family
and I were new to the state of Washington, and eager to explore the Pike Place Market. Tourists
crowded in front of the original Starbucks, taking pictures and forming a line. I shifted my weight and
waited impatiently in the filled to the brim coffee shop.
How much longer? I whined, crossing my arms and pouting my lips. The line was moving at sluggish
speed, and I was ready for my hot chocolate. After a moment of chatter, my parents decided that me
and my sister could wait outside and people watch. Relieved, and walking out of the shop, we were
welcomed by the cool fall air and rustle of coats.
The street was filled with strange items and odd people. Passing a couple of street singers, we spotted
a living statue. Covered all in silver, resembling a tin man, in a kneeling position. As we passed, its
eyes followed our gaze until we were again enveloped by the crowd. My sister jerked her arm, looked
back and quickened her walking speed.
Trying to catch up, I yelled, Camryn, slow down! Why are you walking so fast? She grabbed my hand
and dashed inside a nearby antique store. Looking out of the hazy window, she scanned the exterior
for the Starbucks. But her eyes stopped dead at the spot where the living statue had kneeled. She
looked back at me and looked as if she had seen a ghost. She said four words.
The statue is gone.

Effects of Different Fluids on Urine Volume, Concentration, and pH
Introduction
The examination of urine is called urinalysis, which is a diagnostic method for assessing renal
function and diagnosing various types of pathophysiology involving not on the kidneys but other
organs and tissues as well. We will be focusing on the kidneys for this experiment. The kidneys play
an essential role in regulating of extracellular concentrations of water, electrolytes, and certain end
product of metabolism; additionally they regulate pH and osmotic pressure. The primary functional
unit of the kidneys is the nephron. Each kidney contains approximately one million nephron. Urine is
formed in the nephron ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The nutrient glucose is entirely reabsorbed back into the blood from the proximal tubules. Sodium
ions and other ions are only partially reabsorbed from the renal tubules.
Secretion is the final process by which substances move into the distal and collecting tubules from the
blood in the capillaries around these tubules. Secretion moves substances out of the blood and into the
tubules where they mix with water and other wastes and then converted into urine. Kidney tubule
secretion plays an important role in maintaining the body s acid base balance.
Hypothesis:
In this experiment subjects receiving water will produce higher volumes of urine than the people
receiving Gatorade. Also those consuming water will have a lower pH level and a lighter color. People
who drink just water without additives will produce more volume of urine because the water will not
be reabsorbed. Nutrients such as sugar and electrolytes from the Gatorade will be reabsorbed therefore
the volume released will be less.
Methods
For this lab every student had to participate. Before the experiment started every participant had to fast
for 4 hours. The time period for the experiment was from 12:00pm till 3:00pm. In the beginning of the
experiment every participant received a sterol cup for the urine sample. During this experiment
individual subjects had to empty their bladder every half an hour. To begin everyone began the initial
urine specimen and half an hour later

Catapult Research Paper
During the Middle Ages, many weapons were created to help in the winning battles. There was a
weapon was the siege engine called a catapult. The term catapult came from the Greek word
katapultos . A catapult was a large machine on wheels with a basket attached to a long wooden arm
and a power source for hurling projectiles on the other. The first catapult however was invented around
400 BC in Greek town Syracuse. It was not the type seen so many times at our own wars in today s
Society for Creative Anachronism. The first catapult closely resembled a crossbow. It was called the
Gastraphete, and worked similar to a crossbow. The Gastraphete had to be pointed at the ground and
the operator had to use great force to set the weapon to fire. The Greeks were so impresses with the ...

The men would bring down the shorter end of the long beam or arm, causing the longer end of the arm
to flip up, causing the basket to loose it s projectile towards the intended target. Some of these siege
weapons were held by men and cause some difficulty in battle.Gravity powered catapults simply used
gravity to hurl the projectile. At its most basic understanding, a gravity catapult is simply a lever that
uses centrifugal force to its advantage. Think of it as a modified seesaw. When two people are on the
seesaw and both are of close weight, the seesaw balances itself. If another person came up and jumped
on one end of the seesaw with one of the people, the single person on the opposite end is likely to
become airborne. Like the seesaw, a gravity powered catapult is also pivoted in the middle. A counter
weight was built onto one end of the catapult and a basket or sling on the other. The projectile end was
pulled down forcing the counterweighted end to

systems analysts to understand a company s strategic plan?
Answer: A strategic plan looks beyond day to day activities and focuses on a horizon that is three,
five, ten, or more years in the future. Because the firm s IT group will be expected to deliver IT
resources, IT managers must understand and participate in strategic planning. Strategic planning starts
with a mission statement that reflects the firm s vision, purpose, and values. Mission statements

Economic feasibility: Economic feasibility means that the projected benefits of the proposed system
outweigh the estimated costs usually considered the total cost of ownership as well as the acquisition
costs.
Schedule feasibility: Schedule feasibility means that a project can be implemented in an acceptable
time frame. When accessing the schedule feasibility the analyst must consider the interaction between
the stakeholders, time and costs.
Economic feasibility is the measure of the cost effectiveness of an information system solution.

Burial Site
When dealing with burial sites some information is needed before any excavation can take place,
whether it is a mass or single grave site. Some of the basic information needed would be the number
of victims or the year of burial. This information will help plan for the number of workers, resources,
and equipment needed for the excavation to take place. When locating a suspected grave site, the main
source is a witness, it is important to get information from more than one witness because a witness
may be under emotional stress, which may cause them to provide unreliable information. Other ways
to locate a new gravesite would be differences in type and growth of vegetation, depressions in the
soil, differences in soil composition while probing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would first look at a satellite image of the reported area where the victim is buried. The reasoning for
this is to get an idea of how many people are needed, which direction to bring the equipment and most
importantly where to start the search. If my department has access to a cadaver dog, I would use this
resource to locate the reported grave site. According to dog trainer Sharon Ward from Portland, Ore.
Cadaver dogs have a 95 percent accuracy rate of finding scents of human decomposition and scattered
remains. So, by using a cadaver dog it saves manpower and recourses for the department but is also
very reliable in getting the job done. Once a burial site is located by the cadaver dogs I would then set
a datum and grid, located and map all surface artifacts, remove all surface debris by hand (e.g. leaves,
loose twigs) and cut growing plants close to the surface. When I come upon the cadaver, I should
maintain control and slowly expose the body. At the same time collect any associated artifacts while
photographing and documenting the entire process. When I reach the bottom of the grave, I will look
for tool marks used to dig the grave or shoe prints left by the person who dug the grave. All of this will
be done before removing the body from the grave

Why I Started Middle School Essay
Whenever I first began middle school, I was well aware of the new and divergent obstacles I would
come across. The classes would become more advanced, teachers more strict, and lunches more
disgusting. During my 6th grade year, this change became clear. As my homework was piling up, so
was my stress. Balancing school, sports, and family time had never been an unchallenging task, but I
never have and never will let that be the reason for my grades to drop. The immense amount of effort I
put into school is one consistent quality I possess that will never disintegrate, as opposed to what one
teacher said. Sometime during my 6th grade year, parent teacher conferences were arriving. I was used
to them at this point. I was expecting my mom to come home from the conference and give me the
same report from my teachers as usual that I worked hard, received good grades, and was a well
behaved student. However, this time, I heard entirely different feedback. When my mom walked into
the kitchen that evening, where I was doing homework, she gave me a funny look. She was grinning,
but still looked puzzled.
Minorly concerned, I asked her, How did the parent teacher conferences go?
She quickly responded, Your sisters meetings went great, as usual.
Right after she said that, she went silent. I wondered why she was not mentioning anything about her
meeting with my teacher, Mr. Frick. I became very anxious, even though I could not recall a time
when Mr. Frick had gotten

An Interview With National State Television And Radio Company
Last year, in an interview with National State Television and Radio Company (VGTRK) journalist
Vladimir Solovyov, Vladimir Putin said Crimea has always been and remains Russian, as well as
Ukrainian, Crimean Tatar, Greek (after all, there are Greeks living there) and German and it will be
home to all of those peoples. As for state affiliation, the people living in Crimea made their choice; it
should be treated with respect, and Russia cannot do otherwise. Since 2014, Russia and Ukraine have
battled over the territory of Crimea, an area in eastern Ukraine stocked with large amounts of gas and
oil. Despite Crimea being in Ukrainian territory, Russia has invaded the region and claimed it as their
own. Although, this conflict in Crimea may be rather new, Ukraine and Russia share a deep and
complex history. In order to study the crisis occurring in Crimea, it is important to look at not only the
problem at hand but also the history, motives, perspectives, and solutions. Furthermore, the issue
cannot be put into context without information on international relations as a whole, background
information about each country, and the role of NATO.

theories have developed around this topic, but a general statement mentions it as the study of conflict

Analysis Of The C C s Management
Executive Summary:
Calyx and Corolla (C C) is a company started by Ruth M. Owades in 1988, which delivers fresh
flowers to the customers using courier service Federal Express. Customers can choose from a wide
range of fresh flowers and bouquets and make an order via phone or fax and get it delivered to their
houses. During 1990, it had consummated over 150k transactions, yielding revenues in excess of $10

challenges that C C is facing are competition with traditional flower selling outlets, less customer base
that order flowers via mail. The company should determine whether it should change its current
strategy and position itself as a mail operation to compete with the traditional outlets, such as florists
and FTDs. Specifically, the C C s management is planning a major advertising campaign to go head to
head against FTDs. Its problem is that it is not clear who their customers should be? As a small
company, it needs to figure out the best way to use its limited marketing resources to reach potential
customers.
Goal and goal defense:
C C is a small player in a large market that has remarkable growth potential. As a company, C C has

The history of lingerie can be traced back thousands of years to 3000 B.C., but it was not until 1977
when Roy Rogers founded Victoria s Secret that lingerie evolved into what we think of now. In this

Victorian clothing became associated with sexual anticipation given the difficulties presented in taking
it all off. The introduction of garters (hooked corsets to stockings) heightened excitement and is
credited with the spawn of striptease shows and dances.ix The name Victoria s Secret was adopted
from this era.
Lingerie cycled through various trends from the early twentieth century to the present. The increased
participation of women in sports and dancing gave rise to brassieres and less restrictive girdles. The
alphabet bra was introduced with cup sizes ranging from A, B, C, and D. Also advancements in
materials for such garments shifted from steel and rubber to synthetic materials, precursors to Lycra,
rayon, and Lastex. The historical context of wars, hippie and feminist movements, and the boom of
the film industry, began to shape a bigger social context for lingerie than previously in history. On one
hand, lingerie was socialized as restrictive, artificial, and conforming. On the other hand, some
advancements (briefs, bikinis), provoked feelings of youth and freedomx. Regardless, by the 1960 s it
was quite evident that women s lingerie incited some type of emotional response from women and
men alike. The timing was ripe for promoting lingerie in a greater business context.

The first text, Sun Vampires from The Big Issue, has been written to inform the readers of the dangers
and long term effects of tanning. Other purposes include: to ridicule the tanorexics , to advice people
about the proper method of tanning and to warn those who are beginning to go on the sunbeds. The
main target audience of this article is the younger generations of the society who are more likely to get

return, but Moses asks for complete restoration and for God to bless the work of man: Let thy work
appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children. And let the beauty of the LORD our God
be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish
thou it.
A synopsis of Psalm 90 is that man God is eternal, man is finite. Therefore man should repent of his
sin, turn from his wicked way and be restored to the dwelling place of the Lord God. Also, because
man s days are numbered, he should seek to be the most productive during his youth as to reflect the
glory of God. There is safety and peace in God s design. good This theme of vocation and purpose is a
constant theme in the both the Hebrew and Christian scriptures.

Occurrence At Owl-Creek Bridge Exposition
Most stories have a simple plot development and setting. They follow the development of exposition,
rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution (also known as Freytag s pyramid). They also stick
to one setting. An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge has a different plot development and setting
changes than most stories because it has two expositions and rising actions, no falling action, and
jumps from setting to setting.
An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge has a different plot development than most stories because it has
two expositions and rising actions. The story starts with a man on a bridge waiting to hang. A man
stood upon a railroad bridge in northern Alabama, looking down into the swift water twenty feet

silence! Peyton Farquhar was dead; his body, with a broken neck, swung gently from side to side
beneath the timbers of the Owl Creek bridge. There is no falling action because it jumps straight to the
resolution. The reader has no time to process or recover from the

the mid 1960 s, Stella created a series of paintings, the Protractor Series, which are prominent for their
semi circle shaped canvases that resemble a protractor. Despite Stella s popular motto, what you see is
what you see, Stella did, in fact, have an inspiration for his famous masterpiece.
Frank Stella created beautiful, simple paintings on canvas often using polymer paint. Very commonly,
Stella s paintings were depicted on shaped canvases like his Protractor Series were painted on semi
circle shaped canvases. Stella had some more works, Irregular Polygons, that were composed on
shaped canvases as well, like the ones listed below.

Although Frank Stella is known for his abstract attitude and motto what you see is what you see, it can
be found that Stella did have an inspiration for his Protractor Series other than the mathematical tool.
When looking at these paintings, an element that can easily catch the eye is the variety of different
hues he chose and the intertwining pathways of color. Prior to creating this artwork, Frank Stella
traveled to the Middle

That sleep is too deep, tangled in its cares! Too close is the slayer who shoots the wicked shaft from his bow! For all his armour he is unable to protect himself: the insidious bolt buries in his chest, the crooked counsels of the accursed one (63) Which warns of the dangers of pride and fame which is something that an abbot was supposed to say towards a monk. Another way their rulers are somewhat similar is that they are both known to be father figures. Abbots are supposed to be devoted and tender as only a father can be, as they say in The Rule of St. Benedict which is much like Beowulf as King Hrothgar gives him fatherly advice. They are also similar on how they present their subjects. Both books ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The For The Homeless Population Introduction The population I chose for this treatment group is the homeless population with a focus on life skills; more specifically with barriers to employment. The general population puts unrealistic expectations upon the homeless rather than meeting them with empathy and realistic support. Having a support group for the homeless population to talk to one another is beneficial in numerous ways. The group members can share tips and tricks, can validate one another, can build a sense of belonging and camaraderie, and the group could provide a safe outlet to learn, on their own terms, basic life skills to improve the populations day to day struggles. People often times believe the homeless are lazy and say why don t they just find a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Life skills as a treatment approach for the homeless population in a group setting has the possibility of having a large variety of levels of societal functioning. For example, we could have a group with a range of very low functioning adults that suffer from mental illness or developmental disabilities or very high functioning adults that may suffer from substance abuse or job loss. This range of members could prove to motivate or hinder progress depending on what type of members join and where they are in knowledge and skills pertaining to independetn living. Exclusions from the group would be active substance users, if under the age of eighteen, if miss more than two sessions with inadequate excuse. I also would address a late policy as to not miss too much of each session and as it would be a distraction to other members. Instructor preparation for this group would be securing a location to conduct the group, exploring the community to find resources and talk to agencies that can support the group or offer services available. The instructor would need to identify transportation opportunities and limitations and possibly partner with a local homeless shelter or food pantry to recruit participants. The ideal length of the treatment would be twelve weeks with weekly sessions lasting two to three hours depending on group size. • 4. Biometric And Identification Of Biometric Identification Biometric methodologies emerged into existence in 1858 by use of recording hand images for identification purposes. From 1858 to 1896 studies progressed in the identification of individuals by hand geometry, a person s measurements, and fingerprints. From the year 1936 to 1985 biometric studies proceeded for iris pattern, face recognition, acoustic speech, written signature, and hand identification. Patents for hand and iris identification became a reality 1985 to 1986 and in 1988 the first semi automated facial recognition system was deployed. By 1991 face recognition is automated with the ability of detecting faces in real time. By the mid to late 1990 s biometric methodologies evolves and is integrated into technology allowing the practice of fingerprint, palm systems, and iris identification to become more reliable with increased automation capabilities. Studies therefore increased and biometric technology became even more advanced in the early 2000 s up until today s time. There are now about 14 different types of biometric technologies that exist today. These biometric technologies are DNA, Iris, Retina, face, fingerprint, finger geometry, hand geometry, odor, typing, vein, voice, and gait recognition which are all techniques of identifying and authenticating individuals that would provide a more reliable and efficient way of verifying a person identification also preventing access to unauthorized personnel. It is evident that Luke regrets his choices when he talks to his dying mother; he laments that he tries but can never stay on the right path (Cool Hand Luke). It is not difficult to discern Luke s American Dream. He also wants the ideal life of freedom, wealth, and happiness, but, as with McMurphy, he makes choices that prevent him from achieving said Dream. It is easier to pretend that fictional characters like McMurphy and Luke are inhumane, much like the murderers and rapists, and should not be considered as possible paths of life for ourselves or those around us. This is where the concept of anti hero is relevant, for these characters, however psychopathic or criminal they may be, are human flawed but still human. However, this is what we all had to do in order to feel like our parents in thirty years, because our culture has forced us to be part of the system of going to some sort of university. • 7. John Ruskin s Impact On Society To do what one thinks and believes in, regardless of the positive or negative outcome, is very important in society to create change. This is something people are lacking today. John Ruskin has a famous quote, supporting this idea. What we think, or what we know, or what we believe is, in the end, of little consequence. The only consequence is what we do. To start off, society has this idea that consequences are only negative affects, but really, the definition of consequence is a result or effect of an action or condition. Using all of that to understand the quote from John Ruskin, I interpreted it in the way that all people have thoughts, knowledge, and beliefs. But, what the people do with those thoughts, knowledge, and beliefs, are what will make a change in the end. If no one tells their ideas, how will anything ever change? A prime example of a person who wasn t afraid to tell their beliefs would be Martin Luther King Jr. He was not phased by people judging him for his skin color or beliefs. He just said what he thought was right, and although he died for it, he did change society in a positive way. I strongly agree with Ruskin s quote because change only occurs when someone goes out of their way to try and cause it. Generally speaking, it seems like the most common subjects people are afraid to speak out about is regarding government and the economy. In 1984 by George Orwell, it shows an entire society who can not speak out about their beliefs, and if they do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Of Plymouth Plantation, William Bradford writes of multiple acts of God s divine providence acting on the Pilgrims during their journey to Virginia and the subsequent founding of Plymouth Plantation. Bradford s portrayal of events he labels providence, such as the death of the lusty seaman, the finding of the corn seeds by the exploring party, and the repulse of the Native American attack, shows his belief that God acted through natural events and reveals aspects of Puritan theology and thinking. The first example of providence in all Bradford s journaling is the death of a lusty seaman. Prescribing divine purpose to a disease is reflective of the general pre scientific thought on which the puritan religion was based. The scriptures were not only a moral code and a theological explanation of man s purpose and origin, but also an explanation for phenomena like weather, disasters, and disease. This allows Bradford to fill in the gaps in his understanding with God s unknowable will. Bradford again shows his views on how God exacts His will when the pilgrims send out the first exploring party under Captain Standish. And here is to be noted a special providence of God, and a great mercy to this poor people, that here they got seed to plant them corn the next year (Bradford, Of Plymouth Plantation). Each performance measure can be tailored to meet the specific needs of any organization. According to Cardinaels and Veen Dirks, firms either have a list of measures or groups of measures separated into categories to evaluate performance. There are four common categories that are used to group and describe the different performance measures. The four categories are financial, customer, internal business, and learning and growth (Cardinaels M.G. van Veen Dirks, 2010). Cardinaels and Veen Dirks said the financial category concentrates on financial data like sales margin percentages and sales growth per store. The customer perspective concentrates on repetitive sales and customer satisfaction. Internal business concentrates on returns to suppliers and the amount of orders completed. Learning and growth concentrates on the development of employees how happy employees are with their job. Customer, internal business, and learning and growth measures are considered to be non financial measures (Cardinaels M.G. van Veen Dirks, 2010). • 29. Marriage Proposals In Pride And Prejudice Pride and Prejudice is a novel written by Jane Austen in the Regency Period of England. The book represents to the reader how females, marriage and social class were viewed at the time, as well as demonstrates Austen s opinion on these matters in a somewhat satirical sense. The two marriage proposals in the book towards the lead female character, Elizabeth Bennet, are put forth by Mr Collins and Mr Darcy, both of whom exaggerate the social norms of the time; as women were not expected to marry for love, but for financial gain, the terms for both proposals are focused more on the gains of both the man and the woman rather than true feelings towards the affair. The ridiculed etiquette shows how Austen held the rules of the time in low regard. Both proposals comprise of snide comments on Elizabeth s social class and financial situation; Collins remarks that Elizabeth will inherit only one thousand pounds in the four per cents, which will not be yours till after your ... This, as well as the fact that he inquired after her health is a contrast to the cold, manipulative character of Mr Collins, who attempts to threaten Elizabeth into marrying him. Therefore, even though the beginning of the two proposals differed dramatically, the denial of the proposal causes each male to react as if it was Elizabeth s fault that they were rejected. This ties in to Austen s views of how men at the time were taught that they could marry any girl if their offer was good enough; this, obviously, is not the case, as Elizabeth cares more about her feelings than the technicalities of the marriage, and ridicules the attitudes of men towards ... My family and I were new to the state of Washington, and eager to explore the Pike Place Market. Tourists crowded in front of the original Starbucks, taking pictures and forming a line. I shifted my weight and waited impatiently in the filled to the brim coffee shop. How much longer? I whined, crossing my arms and pouting my lips. The line was moving at sluggish speed, and I was ready for my hot chocolate. After a moment of chatter, my parents decided that me and my sister could wait outside and people watch. Relieved, and walking out of the shop, we were welcomed by the cool fall air and rustle of coats. The street was filled with strange items and odd people. Passing a couple of street singers, we spotted a living statue. Covered all in silver, resembling a tin man, in a kneeling position. As we passed, its eyes followed our gaze until we were again enveloped by the crowd. My sister jerked her arm, looked back and quickened her walking speed. Trying to catch up, I yelled, Camryn, slow down! Why are you walking so fast? She grabbed my hand and dashed inside a nearby antique store. Looking out of the hazy window, she scanned the exterior for the Starbucks. But her eyes stopped dead at the spot where the living statue had kneeled. Secretion moves substances out of the blood and into the tubules where they mix with water and other wastes and then converted into urine. Kidney tubule secretion plays an important role in maintaining the body s acid base balance.
