It s been years since I have seen him. I try my hardest to remember his body. All that comes to
mind is his dirty blonde hair, big brown eyes, broad shoulders and a smile that could melt any
heart. Tyler Emmert was no ordinary guy to me. In my eyes, Tyler was a man no one could
understand, he had a past that made him who he is. I once fell in lovewith him. Everyone was
confused, how can a smart, caring, sweet girl steal the heart of a rebel, a person who runs from
things with feeling. Some people say opposites attract but I say it s the souls that longs for
eachother rather than looks or personality. Loving him felt like destiny, like it was meant to be.
One day things were perfect the next day he woke up and decided to disappear. All traces of Tyler
were gone. No phone number, no address to find him. Our love was truly and utterly over. I... Show

Controlling Language In Animal Farm
Controlling language is a more powerful utility of communication because it fears and
manipulates the listener into what you want them to do or follow. Like many sovereigns
through the ages who have ruled with fear and control retain supreme power. One example is the
pig Napoleon from George Orwell s book, Animal Farm. Napoleon uses controlling language to
force animals into kicking out their farmer Mr. Jones, even if not everyone wants to rebel. The
book Animal Farm is an extended metaphor for the Russian revolution. Animal Farm is about a
farm where the animals that the farm contains take over, and kick out their farmer Mr. Jones. By
working and keeping a stamina of power, the animals are able to contain well working, rising
farm.Throughout the book there are many contradictions with who will withstand supreme
power. Napoleon from the book uses manipulation through controlling language to hold all
power. As Niccolo Machiavelli explains in his book The Prince, every ruler should not even try
to be nice because the leaders who do rule with fear and control will crush the ones who try to be
good and fair. These are all examples of how people who dominate with controlling language.
Although there is uplifting language, it does not work as well as controlling communication
because it usually has less potency. Napoleon from Animal Farm used controlling language to gain
the rule of the animals. Napoleon is a power hungry nuisance in the form of a pig. He and his

Cause And Effects Of Climate Change
The Living Planet report calculates that humans are using 30% more resources than the Earth can
replenish each year (Jowit, 2008). Despite this shocking information, the scientific community
around the world are not focus only on a future lack of resources, but also with the possible cause
and effects of climate change. Both topics are directly related with the future of humanlife. Since
people need the nature to provide them food, fresh water and material to produce their daily thing,
the lack of resources is a reality. In addition, according to the article The Consequences of Climate
Change published by NASA scientists had predicted loos of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and
longer, more intense heat waves as some the effects of climate change by 2100 (NASA, n.d.). Thus,
it is clear that there is an agreement that both issues will seriously affect the future of humanity.
However, the scientific community has doubts about which of these themes is crucial for the
survival of human beings. Taking into account how quickly the natural resources have been
consumed, the effects will be felt earlier than the climate change outcomes. When it comes to the
environment, in this specific case about climate change and the depletion of natural resources,
reflection on how these issues relate to and influence human life is inevitable. In the case of climate
change, for example, the article Climate Change and Human Health published by the U.S Global
Change Research Program

The Between Pakistan And Pakistan
After the battle of Palashi in 1757, the English set their colony throughout the indian sub continent
and they ruled 190 (1757 1947) years through great colonial impressions. In 1947 due to
movement over all india and their own egarness to free india from their rule they gave the
independence as two sovereign state named india and Pakistan where Pakistan had two parts east
Pakistan (todays Bangladesh ) and west Pakistan (todays Pakistan) Background of language
movement: After the division, the two sovereign country became separated. Pakistan was consisted
with two parts East Pakistan and West Pakistan with the distance of 5600 square miles, but the two
parts were different from one another in many sectors including regional differences, political
dissimilar, religious belief, economic importance and other sectors. Where East Pakistan was
economically more solvent than West Pakistan and most of the people of west Pakistan were
Muslim where the maximum inhabitants of east Pakistan were Hindu. On the other hand, there
were various language talked in westPakistan, but the common language of east Pakistan was
Bengali yet the autocratic ruler of west Pakistan wanted to make Urdu as the state language of
Pakistan, then the political, economic, language related clashes took places in many times and one
of them is the language movement of 1952. The reasons of Language movement: There were many

Physical Geography Of Uruguay
Uruguay Country Profile
Physical Geography
Uruguay is a country in South America. It borders the South Atlantic Ocean, to the west is
Argentina, and northeast is Brazil. To the south it lies opposite to the RГo de la Plata, which is a
wide estuary opening out to the South Atlantic. The capital Montevideo, which is also a major
port, is on the edge of the RГo de la Plata (see Figure one). Uruguay is the smallest Spanish
speaking country in South America. It is a water rich land, and consists of three systems of rivers.
One of these rivers is RГo Uruguay, which forms the border with Argentinaand is bounded by low
banks. The most important of the three rivers, which also happens to be the longest, is RГo Negro.
RГo Negro travels across the northeast of the country to the west, and empties into RГo Uruguay.
Uruguay has plains on the eastern, western, and southern edges. Along with all of the flat plains,
there are ranges of low hills. The highest point in these hilly areas is the Cerro Catedral, located in
the Cuchilla Grande mountain range ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the large amount of water in the country, there is often high humidity and fog. The rainfall
in the country is evenly distributed throughout. On average, Montevideo gets 950 millimeters of
rainfall annually. The rainfall in this area results from the passing of cold fronts in the winter, and
thunderstorms are frequent in the summer. In Uruguay, there is only 2 3% of land that is forested,
and around 30,000 40,000 kilometers of the land is arable. Vegetables for the capital are produced

School Counselors
I believe the next important ingredient for multicultural competence is cultural skills. A skilled
counselor utilizes the interventions that are client based and which serve clients needs. A positive
reaction would be to be connected to those different cultures communication is the key. In
multicultural counseling the counselor needs to be more aware his or her limitations in counseling
skills. I feel it s vital to have cultural skills in order to serve multicultural populations in the most
productive way to facilitate. By being culturally aware and recognizing how culturewill affect the
counseling process, this cultural awareness will support the counselor in developing an empathic
understanding towards clients. In... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
School Counselors job isn t to teach students moral rules and values or to prevent students from
making their own choices based on their values. Admittedly, it can be a fine line to walk between
not imposing our values yet helping students develop social skills and self understanding that will
enhance their efforts to become successful adults. In the leadership role it s not up to the counselor
to fix all problems. All through the years the role the school counselors play in using information
uniquely available to them to examine and change current policy and practice. Whether it be course
taking patterns, student placements, or student success and failure rates, school counselors are
poised to be key change agents within the school. That is a big job that I feel school counselors don
t get credit for enough. Many times, school counselors are told what to do by administrators who
fail to understand the contribution the school counselor can make to the school. If anything that I
feel I disagree is that credit that the counselors don t get. Some of the duties that have historically
been assigned to the school counselor are data entry; clerical record keeping; registration and
scheduling of all new students; coordinating or administering cognitive, aptitude and achievement
tests; responsibility for signing excuses for students who are tardy or absent; performing
disciplinary actions; sending students home who are not appropriately

Reconstruction During The Civil War Essay
Reconstruction
The United States went through many changes after the Civil War and during the Reconstruction
period of 1866 1877. Before Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on December, 1863, by John
Wilkes, Lincoln announced the first Reconstruction plan a year before the Civil War had ended
and Lincoln offered general amnesty to white southerners who would pledge an oath of loyalty to
the government and accept the abolition of slavery. During the summer of 1865, Johnson not long
after he took office had revealed his plan for Reconstruction or as he preferred to call it
Restoration, which reflected both his staunch Unionism and his firm belief in states rights. He
offered some form of amnesty to Southerners who would take the oath of allegiance.
In 1865 and 1866, under the administration of President Andrew Johnson new southern state
legislatures passed restrictive black codes to control the labor and behavior of former slaves and
other African Americans. North outraged over these codes eroded support which led to the triumph
of the more radical wing of the Republican Party and the approach known as Presidential
Reconstruction. During Radical Reconstruction which began in 1866, and for the first time in
American history, blacks gained a voice in government and they won elections to southern state
legislatures and even to the U.S. Congress. In less than a decade, however, reactionary forces
including the Ku Klux Klan would reverse the changes wrought by Radical

The Winter Season Is The Worst Of Seasons
The winter season is the worst of seasons. This is my opinion and it s strong. I am not sure if it s
the fact that I don t have enough meat on my bones to retain heat (especially on my fingertips and

What Is The Hunger In Nigeria
Jocelyn Bennett
Instructor Williamson
ENG III
8 December 2017
The Hunger in Nigeria The world s hunger is ridiculous. There is more fruit in a rich man s
shampoo than on a poor man s plate (The World S). Nigeria consists of 186 million people and
of those 450,000 are malnourished children (Nigeria). A malnourished child is one not receiving
the appropriate amount of nutrients in their system. In America, this can be from eating a
substantial amount of unhealthy food or from not eating enough.. Unfortunately, the situation in
Nigeria is strictly not obtaining enough food or any at all. Nigeria is only one of many that
need help in getting food to its people. Therefore, the number of people with an inadequate
amount of food in Nigeria is increasing due to conflict and needs to be decreased due to it
causing a variety of diseases and making it easier for viruses to spread throughout the country.
The question the whole world has been asking is why the amount of Nigeria s malnourished
population has increased. It all begins with a group named Boko Haram. Boko Haram is a
group similar to ISIS and has been capturing multiple cities throughout Nigeria. The group is
making it extremely difficult for the natives to continue their farming, as well as their everyday
life. The Nigerian government has been trying extremely hard to gain control of their cities once
again (Conflict). However, there have been many times where Nigeria was too late. Boko
Haram has harmed and killed over 100,000 people in Borno alone.(Nigeria) The group has
managed to force over two million people to relocate their lives elsewhere within the region of
Nigeria. This can be referred to as internally displacing someone (Tukur). Nigeria has been trying it
s hardest to recapture the sites taken, especially Borno. Unfortunately, Boko Haram hasn t been
stopped yet and the number of malnourished natives is rapidly increasing.
According to Inland Valley Daily, each day, about 29,000 children worldwide die from hungerand
preventable diseases such as malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea, and acute respiratory infections
(Guerrero). The malnutrition in Nigeria may not seem like such a problem; however, it is a major
one. The Nigerian population cannot grow

Bob Dylan s lyrics that evening were dated. But, no doubt to his great dismay, they were no more
less relevant on this evening in 1991 then they were when he wrote them in the midst of then
President Lyndon Johnson s controversial deployment of American troops to Vietnam. The
audience that evening wasn t watching some fly by night hipster playing senseless fluff. They were
caste in the shadow of the most prophetic musical figure of the last fifty years. A man whose inner
fire forged a new musical frontier and shaped an entire generation of American youth.
Background
The man affectionately known as Bob Dylan to millions of fans worldwide was actually born
Robert Zimmerman on May 24, 1941 in Hibbing, Minnesota. Hibbing is a desolate mining town on
the outskirts of Duluth, near the Canadian border. Zimmerman s father was a local business owner,
operating an appliance and furniture store in Hibbing. As a boy, young Robert was introverted and
secretive. As he reached adolescence Robert became a talented storyteller with a tendency to
fabricate stories about his past to such an extent as to make the truth difficult to decipher. With age
came the renouncing of his Jewish faith, just one of many rebellious stands taken in that period.
Those closest to Robert at that time attributed his rejection of Judaism to the boy s dislike for the
small town business community that his father

Paragraph On William The Conqueror
William the Conqueror
William was young at this time in his life, but that didn t mean he would back down from a fight.
William was already the ruler of Normandy and this, the battle of hastings would give him his
second country to rule. Although he would become ruler of England he still didn t go there much
he lived in Normandy, and was a very respectable and experienced ruler, under his reign the church
flourished.
William the conqueror in the battle of hastings. September 27 is when things started going William
s way, the wind shifted and started moving them right into England. Directly after reaching shore
William decided to make his move and as stated in the document William I. William rallied the
fleeing horsemen, however, and they turned and slaughtered the foot soldiers chasing them. On
two subsequent occasions, William s horsemen feigned retreat, which fooled Harold s soldiers,
who were then killed by their opponents. Harold s brothers were also killed early in the battle.
Toward nightfall the king himself fell, struck in the eye by an arrow according to Norman
accounts, and the English gave up. (par.1) this quote shows that William knew what he was doing
and did the right thing and also that he wasn t scared. William was about to become a ruler of
another country.
William was already good and experienced at ruling so thus should be no problem for him. William

The Code Red By Lance Corporal Harold
Lance Corporal Harold Dawson and Private First Class Louden Downey enter Private First
Class Santiago s bunk room to perform a code red, a form of punishment used by military
personal that is not in protocols; the two men were following an order given to them by a
superior officer. At Guantanamo Bay orders are taken very seriously. A quote from the film, A
Few Good Men, states they are not permitted to disobey orders, showing that the two men had no
other choice because they were ordered to do it (Reiner). The men followed through with a code
red rather than disobeying direct orders, which is against their beliefs as a unit. So sometimes

Following commands is a very important part of keeping order. Now imagine a row of blue clad
Navy soldiers, carrying out drills in perfect unison, if just one person were to break orders and
fail to correctly initiate their portion of the drill it makes every singular other soldier look bad,
including themselves, thus creating an incentive to not break orders and not mess up no matter
what the situation. Furthermore, should someone always follow orders? In the case of Downey
and Dawson following an order ended up getting an innocent man killed. Milgram points out that
the ordinary person who shocked the victim did so out of a sense of obligation an impression of
his duties as a subject (par 96). Dawson and Downey carried out the requested code red because
they felt obligated. As a result, they were obligated to ignore their own personal morals and do
the commands of another person. Another explanation is provided by MacDonald is the mission
in way to get the job done might at times cause a certain degree of sadism. (par. 8) So, it seems
that over time soldiers derive satisfaction from acting out violent orders and because of this and the
combined effects of war, they seem to disregard other humans physical pain which in turn makes
taking orders that much easier. This disregard for

Life in the Ghettos
Bodies of men, women, and children lay strewn in great disarray (Life in the ghettos 4 5). Others
lay mortally wounded, crying out for help, moaning with pain, with head wounds or limbs torn
from their bodies. The ghettos started in 1939 . During the holocaust, a ghetto was a special
section of a city in which Jewish people were forced to live . They Jewsin the ghettos were
identified by their yellow badges worn. Within the ghetto the lives of the people oscillated in the
desperate struggle between survival and death from disease or starvation. There were several

prevent becoming diseased when living in such poor conditions. They all suffered endless
infections illness, vermin, infestation, dehydration, and low morale (Ghetto Life 30). Lacking
proper medication, the ghettos physicians did their very best administer aid to the people whose
symptoms were discovered earlier on. Even in the winter, heating was very scarce. Many froze in
to death. Having very few things to live off of, tens of thousands died in the ghettos from either
starvation, illness, or cold. However, all of these things did not stop them from being forced to work.
The Jews were forced to produce goods. Some Jews were accosted and ordered to work
whenever a specific organization required them, while others were working in workshops. More
than 10,000 Jews were working as carpenters, tailors, and shoemakers. Carpentry workshops
would produce new furniture from from timber taken from Jews homes (Work Within Ghettos).
On the other hand, in the fur work shop, workers made fur coats from garments also taken from
the Jews. In the Lodz ghetto, the adult population worked twelve hours a day. If a person was not

Theme Of Supernatural Elements In Huckleberry Finn
He said the witches was pestering him awful these nights, and making him see all kinds of strange
things, and hear all kinds of strange words and noises, and he didn t believe he was ever witched
so long before in his life (210). Throughout The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn there are many
themes and narratives, one that readers see right away is the supernatural element involved.
Although the story is told through the main character Huckleberry Finn, many of the supernatural
components are believed by the African American slaves. These superstitions are very common
with the slave community and many are told through the slave Jim. Mark Twain writes with a way

Twain uses the difference between the black and white culture to represent the supernatural,
which is written through the different beliefs that Jim and Huck understand. For example,
throughout the book Huck barely understands why Jim is so superstitious, but Huck seems to
mostly believe in it anyways. A bigger part is when Huck visits Silas and Sally and sees their
slave even believing in superstitions also (210). When this is noted in the book, it shows that no
matter where Huck and Jim go superstition will always be believed. Twain also writes to make it
seem that the more educated people are religious while the slaves are not, and believe in bad luck
and supernatural. This shows the difference between the white educated people of the town and
the African American slaves usually not being able to read or write. Jim being superstitious only

they are in effect. The duration a patented design lasts is for 10 years. Fees are paid to make sure
this protection remains. A registered design prevents third parties from utilizing the product for
up to 25 years if it is renewed each five year period. Proof must be given that a person has created
a design. These could be copies or photographic evidence of the design. The aspects of a design
that are forbidden for use by others are the appearance, shape, arrangement and decoration. There
are some criteria the design must meet in order for it to be protected. It must be new, not offensive,
not contain already protected designs and is not

Examples Of Generation Gap In A Raisin In The Sun
Bernard Rosenberg, an author who wrote books about societal issues in the 1970s, once wrote,
Generation Gap: A chasm, amorphously situated in time and space, that separates those who have
grown up absurd from those who will, with luck, grow up absurd. People grown up in different
environments or times have their own morals or methods of operation that would not be politically
correct today. This leads to a generation gap between young and old people. The difference
between an educated twenty year old with prodigious dreams (Beneatha) and a conservative woman
in her early sixties (Mama) is demonstrated In A Raisin in the Sun written by Lorraine Hansberry
with how it shows generation separates dreams, values, and cultural perspectives as shown with
Beneatha and Mama.
Beneatha and Mama s dreams are separated because of Beneatha s dreams of becoming a doctor.
Female doctors in the 1950s were seen not as accredible in their field. When Ruth tells Mama
about her appointment for her pregnancy and the female doctor she went to, Mama says, She
What doctor you went to? (61). To Mama going to a female doctor is seen as giving up the baby
which is the worst thing possible in Mama s mind. Mama undermines Beneatha as a doctor or any
other female doctor because Mama was raised in a generation where the workforce was dominated
by men while women were housewives. Another choice Mama disagrees with is Beneatha choice to
not get married. Mama pesters Beneatha many times about marriage, but Beneatha never agreed.
This was shown when Beneatha said, I m going to be a doctor. I m not worried about who I m
going to marry if I ever get married (50). Beneatha wants to be a strong independent female doctor
and not a housewife; besides, Mama believes that women should be married; nevertheless, they
should not take on such a male dominated job. Many times Mama pushes Beneatha to marry a rich
man, George Murchison, instead of supporting her dreams because Beneatha s dreams are not the
traditional life style. Beneatha pushes through Mama s beliefs on marriage and female doctors to
still continue her dreams of being a doctor.
Between Mama and Beneatha there is a vast generation gap as seen in the opposing views.

The Relocation And Imprisonment Of Japanese Americans...
The relocation and imprisonment of Japanese Americans during World War II has been and always
will be a dark stain in American History. Due to America s lingering racism and prejudices, many
of our fellow Americans had to experience an ordeal that no other American should ever have to
face. They lost their homes, businesses, land and more importantly, their freedoms, during a
moment of time that was filled with resentment, mistrust, fear and hatred towards a fellow man
(American) that was just as willing to fight and die for their country.
On December 7, 1941, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. The next day, the United Statesand Britain
declared war on Japan. Two months later, on February 19, 1942, the lives of thousands of Japanese
Americans were dramatically changed when President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive
Order 9066. This order led to the assembly and evacuation and relocation of nearly 122,000 men,
women, and children of Japanese ancestry on the west coast of the United States. (1)
It is interesting to note that, despite the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Japanese Americans in Hawaii
were not imprisoned in a large scale as they were stateside. Of the total Japanese American
population in Hawaii which made up nearly 40% of the population of Hawaii itself, and a large
portion of the skilled workforce only a few thousand people were detained. (2) The fact that so few
Japanese Americans were incarcerated in Hawaii suggests that their mass removal on the West
Coast was

Surgical Implant Essay
Long term effects: surgical implants Chronic exposure to medically implanted metals is of
growing interest to medical providers. Gallo, Kaminek, Ticha, Rihakova and Ditmar (2002)
compiled a review on particle disease. This is complication found in hip replacement patients that
is characterized by aseptic loosening and periprosthetic osteolysis. The burden of wear on the
weight bearing surfaces of the implant produces particles. These particles are only one of several
factors that contribute to the complex osteolytic process. Osteoblasts are key in the process of
bone formation. Metal particles can inhibit osteoblast production and function. Oldenburg, Wegner

Supply Chain of Blood and Products in a Blood Bank
The objective of this case study is
1.To study the existing supply chain of blood and blood products in a regional blood bank
2.To identify cost and risk related problems in the supply chain of blood and blood products and to
develop a solution for cost and risk minimization.
BACKGROUND
Human blood is not an ordinary commodity because it cannot be substituted and its need will
always exist. Blood and blood products are also perishable, which complicates things even further.
Shortages lead to high costs for society and outdates on the other hand are not commonly accepted
either, since blood donors are a scarce asset of society and donors must respect a certain time period
between two donations, depending on the type of donation.
Blood Bank services are a key component of the healthcare system all over the world and a well
organised Blood Transfusion Service is a vital component of any health care delivery system and
yet the study and the analysis of such systems from a supply chain perspective have been a few
especially in India. The National Blood Policy of India aims to ensure easily accessible and
adequate supply of safe and quality blood and blood components, which is free from transfusion
transmitted infections, and is stored and transported under optimum conditions.
This case study examines the supply chain of a specific type of perishable product i.e. Human
Blood and Blood Product in a Regional Blood Bank, from the point of collection as a whole blood

Moral Blindness In Anna By Tolstoy
Tolstoy repeats the subject, Anna, for elven times in the reduced space of a paragraph. He spoils
her as a father does with his only daughter, condescends further her whims, endorses her downfall,
forces some fifty characters to move all around her intention. Everything is about her, no wonder
somewhere along the line her selfishness amounts to cruelty. The awareness of her husband
unhappiness doesn t spoil her happiness as long as she believes being it her salvation, nor does the
memory of her son. She strives to compensate for her absence by showing up for his ninth birthday
though forgetting to give him the toys she had bought, she tries to suffer by refusing the divorce,
consequently making her position socially unacceptable, but... Show more content on

He is a product of his age, an apology of positivism alien to people s feelings and thoughts. The
abyss he is facing, the illogical process of love, is made even more horrible by the shattering of
the rules of propriety, he, so necessarily, adhered. Anna sees in him emotionless conventionality
and she points in him the same faults Emma addresses to Charles, he understands nothing, he
feels nothing, a ministerial machine lacking of imagination and passion. And indeed the
distance between him and Charles is never great, Tolstoy, through Anna s hatred, tries to make
of him a caricature of a man as Flaubert did with Charles. The cartilage of his ears, his weary
eyes, slow voice, flat feet, the way he swings his pelvis, the blue veins on his white hands, the
cracking of his knuckles, all these details recall very closely the stamp Emma abhors in Charles.
All the same, Tolstoy s characters are never wholly evil or wholly good. They are real. Karenin
is an hypocrite who mirrors the morality Anna has offended: when on the carriage back home she
first confesses to love someone else, Tolstoy has her conceding: No, you are not mistaken, she said

all the difference between the epic she represents and the etiquette he embodies. And yet, there is
something missing in almost everything Karenin does in the novel: he has no poetic sentiments but

Marge Piercy s Poetry
Marge Piercy is known for writing poems about women rights and women s negative treatment
by society in the 1936s. In her poem What s that smell in the kitchen? she talks about how
society see women. According to society, women were raised to cook and clean so women are
supposed to have a meal on the table for their husbands. Piercy s attitude toward this statement is
that she is mad because there is more quantiles to women than cooking and cleaning. In the poem
What that smell in the kitchen? Piercy s use of literary devices expresses how she feels about

For example, in the last stanza Piercy states, Burning dinner is not incompetence but war. . This
metaphor helped the reader understand that women from all over the world are burning dinners
as a protest to society. This quotation shows how women are tired of being expected to have
food on the table for their husbands and clean the house, just because they were raised that way.
In addition, the author states, Look she says, once I was roast duck on your platter with parsley,
but now I am spam. This literary device allowed the reader to understand how women feels about
society making them feel less important. Piercy uses this metaphor as a symbol to show how
women were once so respected and powerful, but as time pass their power and respect began to
fade away. They were no longer appreciated for what they do. The connotations allowed the reader
to figure out the universal truth about women in the poem What s that smell in the kitchen?

The use of steroids by athletes to gain muscle mass is rapid and effective. Each individual user
makes a decision based on the activity they participate. Some athletes desire to jump higher,
others to run faster, or to throw the farthest and hit home runs, yet others desire to bench the

I feel that the speaker is reminiscing over how his father used to get him up early on Sunday

Short-Term Synthesis
Within the hippocampus, long term potentiation (LTP) results due to the increased activity between
a presynaptic and a postsynaptic neuron. The stimulation and subsequent depolarisation of a
presynaptic CA3 pyramidal neuron results in the opening of voltage gated calcium channels
(VGCC). Thus, an influx in Ca2+ occurs, and glutamate vesicles are fused via synaptotagmin. The
fusing of these vesicles allows the release of glutamate, a neurotransmitter which will bind to
AMPA receptors and induce the influx of Na+ into the postsynaptic CA1 pyramidal neuron. This
will result in the depolarisation of the postsynaptic neuron, which is one of the requirements for the
opening and consequent induction of Ca2+ through the NMDA receptor. Through a cascade... Show

The test groups that wrote out the content 10x showed a significant increase in short term
memory versus test groups that utilised no writing. These results indicate that repetition increases
neural activity and thereby increases the levels of short term synaptic plasticity (STP). The
effects of STP can last between a few millisecond to minutes, whilst long term synaptic plasticity
can last from minutes to years (Pinar et al., 2017). The short term memory results are therefore
not a strong indicator of the strength of LTP occurring. In order to analyse this, long term
memory was measured three weeks later. The test group that viewed a relatable movie before
writing out the content 10x, displayed a significantly higher long term memory recall, and
therefore showed an increase in LTP. Students within the other groups showed lower levels of LTP
which may have being caused by the LTD.
LTD is the opposing mechanism of LTP, resulting in a decreased synaptic strength and therefore
eliminating the formation of the memory. It occurs when Ca2+ flows through a voltage gated
calcium channels within the postsynaptic neuron, resulting in an alternative Ca2+ encoding. This
different encoding activates a protein phosphatase which induces a protein cascade that will
dephosphorylate and remove APMA receptors from the neural membrane. This deregulation of
AMPA receptors weakens the neural synapse and thereby results in the elimination of the

Attrition From Higher Education Institution
1. INTRODUCTION
Attrition from Higher Education Institution (HEI) programmes is worryingly on the increase
(Russell Group 2010). However, students that drop out of pre registration nursing programmes are
of particular concern, not only to the HEI but the Government and the NHS also due to the
requirement to meet the needs of the NHS recruitment and demands of an increasingly ageing
society that relies on qualified nurses (DOH 2007). Indeed the type of funding that student nurses
receive and the amount of money that is invested by Strategic Health Authorities (SHA) and
Government in them suggests that attrition is a costly problem (DOH 2009).
It is difficult to gather specific statistical data regarding attrition rates as ... Show more content on

A more recent report produced by the Department of Health states that the attrition rate from pre
registration nursing programmes stands at 16% (DOH 2010). This statistic differs greatly from
the national average of 27% reported direct to the RCN by the HEIs. The United Kingdom figures
do generally appear favourable however compared to countries such as Italy (65%) and the USA
(37%) (International Audit office, 2007).
Statistics produced by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (2011) highlight that the percentage
drop out rate for students on all types of Degree level programmes is relatively low at
approximately 10% whereas for those studying the Diploma level programme the drop out rate
increases to 17%. Therefore the statistics identified for attrition from pre registration nursing
programmes are higher that the average attrition rate of all other Degree and Diploma programmes.
A higher completion rate among pre registration nurses will enhance the NHS workforce of
qualified nurses and will help towards the Department of Health Our Health, Our Care, Our Say
(DOH 2006a) goal to ensure individual excellence of care for all. Higher retention of students
would also aide the HEIs involved in the education of pre registration nursing as SHA and
Government targets will be met and financial penalties

and playroom with bars on its window (Miskolcze 3). This can be showing that women are
forced to take care of children and that s all they can do. The irony of her being placed in a
nursery shows that women are always taking care of something in the nursey. The nursery is
described much like a prison with bars on the windows and the bed is also nailed to the ground
and impossible to move. The narrator spends most of her time in this room because she is
usually in bed and this is a big cause for her breakdown due to the ugly wall paper. She hates the
wall paper; it infuriates her. The paper is a weird yellow color and has a very ugly pattern. The
wallpaper later symbolizes her oppression and is eventually torn down representing her breaking
through and fighting it

Kansas State University Scholarship Essay
During the year of 2014 there were an estimated 112,600 architects employed and approximately
20% were self employed. Architects have a high competition for jobs and job positions are
estimated to increase seven percent each year (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). Degrees for this
field of study can be found at many colleges including Kansas State University. Kansas State is a
great college that is full of opportunities for scholarships and has a wide variety of clubs and
degrees. There are three major steps in becoming an architect. The first step is earning a degree the
lowest of which and the lowest degree required is a bachelor s. In Kansas State a bachelor s degree
is not offered. The main focus is a master s degree that can be earned in five years. The second step

The Controversy Of Selling Counterfeit Products
Ten years ago, it was easy to walk into a store and find fake or knockoff products. Today, it s
much harder to find people and businesses that are selling counterfeit products. E Commerce sites,
such as Amazon and E bay have helped create millions of such stores online, which is why it s so
hard to check for fakes. One storefront gets shut down and another one opens. Amazon has made it
extraordinarily difficult to enforce against counterfeitproducts. The problem isn t just limited to
Amazon though. E bay, Walmart.com, and Newegg have also been accused of selling counterfeits.
All of the companies say they have strict policies in effect for removing offending products from
their websites, and that they vociferously fight against counterfeits.

Ophelia In Hamlet Essay
Polonius, Ophelia s father, embodies the theories the Other and a lack of female agency while
discussing with Ophelia a similar case to her brother. In act 1 scene 3 of Hamlet, Polonius
decides to inform Ophelia of the same matters that Laertes provides her. While Ophelia is
departing from sending off her brother, Polonius asks Ophelia what her and her brother were
discussing, resulting in her receiving unsolicited advice from her father on how to handle
Hamlet s sexual and romantic advances. Polonius states, Tender yourself more dearly / Or ...
/ you ll tender me a fool. (1.3.107 109). What he is stating here is that if Ophelia does not respect
herself and succumbs to Hamlet s lustful actions, Polonius will be painted as a fool. Similar to
Laertes disccusion, Polonius s comment to Ophelia marks the notion that Ophelia cannot be
respected if she operates in sexual endeavors. This idea represents Balizet s notion that women s
sexuality is a patriarchal standard and also represents de Beauvoir s notion that a womanis not
sexual unless with a man. However, there is a deeper standard that is portrayed by Polonius that
is a necessity to address. In the quote provided above, Polonius discusses that his respect will be
lost as well if Ophelia acts on lust because he is her father. This form of selfishness that is
represented within Polonius s speech supports de Beauvoir s theory that women are thought of to
be as the Other of men. Polonius s anxiety of loss of respect for himself

Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs Theory Maslow, Abraham. 1908 1970. American psychologist and a
founder of humanistic psychology who developed a hierarchical model of human motivation, in
which a higher need, ultimately that for self actualisation, is expressed only after lower needs are
fulfilled. Self actualisation needs Self actualization is the fulfilment of the person s dreams and
aspirations. Even if all these needs are satisfied, we may still often (if not always) expect that a

Prosperity In The Swimmer, By John Cheever
The meaning of a happy and prosperous life can take on different forms based on the value and
belief of an individual. For Neddy Merrill, the main character in The Swimmer by John Cheever,
prosperity is solely associated with wealth and social standing. In this essay, I will argue that
contrasting images of the public and private pools, encountered by Neddy swimming across his
upper class neighbourhood, reflect his obsession with material and social success, which
ultimately deserted him in desperation at the end of the story. In The Swimmer , the private pools
owned by Neddy s neighbours are associated with pleasant images, which serve to highlight Neddy
s obsession with affluence and high social standing. For instance, when Neddy arrives... Show more

In addition, the gather[ing] of prosperous people (Cheever, 175), including Neddy himself, by
the private pool, suggests that Neddy s life is centered on material and social success, which
solely constitute his definition of prosperity. In contrast, the public swimming pool at the
Reaction Center is linked with more unpleasant images to demonstrate Neddy s distaste for
lower socioeconomic classes. Neddy initially compares the public pool to a sink (Cheever, 177).
The word sink carries a negative connotation, as its common function is to hold dirty dishes. By
comparing the public pool to a sink , it also likens public pool users to dirty dishes, revealing that
Neddy is looking down on people who cannot afford a private pool. Moreover, as Neddy entering
the public pool, he remarks on his longing for the sapphire water and thinks that he might
contaminate himself damage his own prosperousness and charm by swimming in this murk
(Cheever 177). Unlike the private pool, the water in the public pool is described as a murk , a
term with a negative connotation, which reinforces Neddy s aversion to the public pool.
Meanwhile, Neddy s belief of being

Examples Of Alexis De Tocqueville
In the 19th century, political philospher Alexis de Tocqueville claimed, the in habitants of the
United States have... properly speaking, no literature. This will be demonstrated as false by
looking into the unique literature produced by America. Two examples we will be looking at are
from Sarah Orne Jewett and Edgar Allen Poe. The pair will prove that Alexis de Tocqueville s
statement is not accurate, and that America has very distinct literature. Sarah Orne Jewett was an
American novelist who specialized in regionalism. A White Heron , a short story from this
semester makes this evident. The story has Sylvia, a little girl, on the rural coat of New England.
Throughout the story Jewett uses specific details to create a superb, realistic

Hector Berlioz, My Favorite Composer
Hector Berlioz, my favorite composer, (born December 11, 1803г…Ўdied March 8, 1869) is
deemed one of the greatest who, ...[contributed] to the modern orchestra with his Treatise on
Information. His mental state and life shaped a composer who had such a raw, creative sound that
is reflected prominently in his works, such as Symphonie fantastiqueand La Damnation de Faust.
During the age of where he was to attend school, France was at war and as a result he had to be
taught by his father who first introduced the young boy to music, which I think was the moment
he sparked an interest in music. By the age of twelve he was composing for large chamber
groups where he was taught to play the flute and guitar. As every father has dreams for their
kids, he sent Berlioz off to Paris to study medicine where he obtained his first degree in science.
With the love of music in his heart, he forced his acceptance to where he would be a pupil of Jean
François Lesueur, professor at Paris Conservatoire.
Having Manic Depressive illness, or bipolar disorder, is probably the reason he was so creative
in his works which is exemplified in Symphonie fantastique. In 1826, he was enrolled into Paris
Conservatoire, and a year after ... [he was] inspired to write Symphonie fantastique, a piece that

The Statement Of Principles By The International...
The Statement of Principles by the International Conference on Cataloguing Principles in Paris
in 1961 established the rules and concepts that create catalog standardization for libraries
multinationally. Based, in part, on Samuel Lubetzky s unfinished book Code of cataloging
rules; author and title entry. An unfinished draft for a new edition of cataloging rules (1960), the
Paris Principles created order in a library community that was much less communal than it is
today by modernizing antiquated cataloging systems and bringing consensus and consistency to
the world of library information organization (Lubetzky, 1960). Communal borrowing and
sharing of bibliographic data was primarily implemented to serve library catalogs, particularly of
large general libraries and are designed for printed books and documents (Frost 1983). Here in
lies the weakness of this system libraries have evolved. The main focus of this paper, and a
primary component of the Paris Principles, is the main entry point a prime component that
allowed for international cataloging consistency. With the move from the Paris Principles to
AACR2 (Anglo American cataloguing rules, second edition) and the evolution toward RDA
(Resource description and access), modern library catalogers are finding less and less of a need
for the main entry point in a record, or at least the traditional main entry point of an author s name
or a resource s title (Ridley, 1997). Using an access point as the main entry point has

The Negative Stereotypes Of African Americans
others (f) Black people have been known to be able to do incredible things from themselves and
others. They are able to turn nothing into something and use it for the greater good of their own
communities. Since the Great Renaissance and the inception of the Black Wall Street, African
Americans were a force to American society. Through the Black Wall Street, with their own money,
Blacks were able to open up jobs and business that would recreate and maintain the socioeconomic
flow within their own communities. Businesses, shops, banks, and health care facilities came out
of the Black Wall Street. Since its destruction in 1921, African Americans and their sense of having
something that they can call their own has not been revitalized. Till this day, Blacks rely on their
white counterparts to fulfill their needs in day to day living. There are a few ways that African
Americans can give to themselves, which will continue to give throughout the year. In return, this
will make them (as a people) stronger, more unified, and powerful than ever before. One important
thing that African Americans can do to change their outlook and perception of life is to stop
feeding into the negative stereotypes placed upon them. Through various forms of entertainment
and art, Blacks have failed short of sustaining their dignity by buying into these stereotypical roles
that are used as forms of entertainment to their fellow man. Depictions of heavy drug users, single
mothers, imprisoned fathers,

General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and Rwanda
The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) 1947 functioned as a means of adjusting
trade relationships between countries trying to improve their economies. Contracting parties to this
agreement have been bound by it to treat other contracting parties on an equal and reciprocal basis
as well as to curb protectionism. At the start of 1995, the GATT has been succeeded by the World
Trade Organization(WTO) and has since been the most important development in international
trade. However, it is still essential to note that the GATT as amended is still the central piece of the
WTO law . A Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) has been set up under Article IV of WTO Agreement

This principle is set out in Article III (1) GATT 1994 where it states that contracting parties
recognize that internal taxes and other internal charges and laws, regulations which affects the

internal quantitative regulations requiring the mixture, processing or use of products in specified
amounts or proportions, should not be applied to imported or domestic products so as to afford
protection to domestic production . Case referred to would be the Gasoline case . In this case,
Rwanda may claim that the act of Australia forbidding their exports of coffee and timber from
entering the Australian market is an act which breaches Article III GATT 1994. This is because
this prohibition does not amount to the treatment of the nationals and products of another country
the same way it treats the domestic nationals and products . In addition there is also a breach in
Article III (1) GATT 1994 as the Australian government has imposed laws and regulations on the
coffee and timber of Rwanda which subsequently affects the offering of sale as well as the
distribution or use of those products . Next, Rwanda could claim according to Article XI GATT

1960s Discoveries And Technology Essay
Discoveries, Inventions, and Technology
The 1960s was a decade where many Americas found a new life and way of living, it was the
time of the hippies, peace and love. It was also a time where many scientific and medical
discoveries where made, these discoveries have improved our everyday lives up to the date. During
the sixties technology advanced with satellites, video games, the Internet etc. and with these
advances they have changed our life style. Without the advance of the internet imagine how we
would be today, nowadays we use the internet for everything we do.
Some of the first discoveries during 1960s was the first ever successful kidney transplant between
non siblings performed in the state of California. This was a major advancement in history because
no there can be kidney transplant donors, which mean more lives are saved. In 1964, a electrical
simulation was presented to demonstrate a auditory nerve in deaf patients, paving the way for
cochlear implants. Thanks to this invention deaf patients can now get a treatment, unlike hearing

  • 2. Fight Club Creative Writing It s been years since I have seen him. I try my hardest to remember his body. All that comes to mind is his dirty blonde hair, big brown eyes, broad shoulders and a smile that could melt any heart. Tyler Emmert was no ordinary guy to me. In my eyes, Tyler was a man no one could understand, he had a past that made him who he is. I once fell in lovewith him. Everyone was confused, how can a smart, caring, sweet girl steal the heart of a rebel, a person who runs from things with feeling. Some people say opposites attract but I say it s the souls that longs for eachother rather than looks or personality. Loving him felt like destiny, like it was meant to be. One day things were perfect the next day he woke up and decided to disappear. All traces of Tyler were gone. No phone number, no address to find him. Our love was truly and utterly over. I... He grabbed my hand told me meet me tonight at my house, seven o clock. He walked away I stood there in shock debating weather I wanted to show or not. As I got ready for the night I tried to brace myself for what might happen. As I pull into the drive way I take a deep breath. • 3. Controlling Language In Animal Farm Controlling language is a more powerful utility of communication because it fears and manipulates the listener into what you want them to do or follow. Like many sovereigns through the ages who have ruled with fear and control retain supreme power. One example is the pig Napoleon from George Orwell s book, Animal Farm. Napoleon uses controlling language to force animals into kicking out their farmer Mr. Jones, even if not everyone wants to rebel. The book Animal Farm is an extended metaphor for the Russian revolution. Animal Farm is about a farm where the animals that the farm contains take over, and kick out their farmer Mr. Jones. By working and keeping a stamina of power, the animals are able to contain well working, rising farm.Throughout the book there are many contradictions with who will withstand supreme power. Napoleon from the book uses manipulation through controlling language to hold all power. As Niccolo Machiavelli explains in his book The Prince, every ruler should not even try to be nice because the leaders who do rule with fear and control will crush the ones who try to be good and fair. These are all examples of how people who dominate with controlling language. Although there is uplifting language, it does not work as well as controlling communication because it usually has less potency. Napoleon from Animal Farm used controlling language to gain the rule of the animals. Napoleon is a power hungry nuisance in the form of a pig. He and his sidekick ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Cause And Effects Of Climate Change The Living Planet report calculates that humans are using 30% more resources than the Earth can replenish each year (Jowit, 2008). Despite this shocking information, the scientific community around the world are not focus only on a future lack of resources, but also with the possible cause and effects of climate change. Both topics are directly related with the future of humanlife. Since people need the nature to provide them food, fresh water and material to produce their daily thing, the lack of resources is a reality. In addition, according to the article The Consequences of Climate Change published by NASA scientists had predicted loos of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves as some the effects of climate change by 2100 (NASA, n.d.). Thus, it is clear that there is an agreement that both issues will seriously affect the future of humanity. However, the scientific community has doubts about which of these themes is crucial for the survival of human beings. Taking into account how quickly the natural resources have been consumed, the effects will be felt earlier than the climate change outcomes. When it comes to the environment, in this specific case about climate change and the depletion of natural resources, reflection on how these issues relate to and influence human life is inevitable. In the case of climate change, for example, the article Climate Change and Human Health published by the U.S Global Change Research Program ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1947 due to movement over all india and their own egarness to free india from their rule they gave the independence as two sovereign state named india and Pakistan where Pakistan had two parts east Pakistan (todays Bangladesh ) and west Pakistan (todays Pakistan) Background of language movement: After the division, the two sovereign country became separated. • 6. Physical Geography Of Uruguay Uruguay Country Profile Physical Geography Uruguay is a country in South America. It borders the South Atlantic Ocean, to the west is Argentina, and northeast is Brazil. To the south it lies opposite to the RГo de la Plata, which is a wide estuary opening out to the South Atlantic. The capital Montevideo, which is also a major port, is on the edge of the RГo de la Plata (see Figure one). Uruguay is the smallest Spanish speaking country in South America. It is a water rich land, and consists of three systems of rivers. One of these rivers is RГo Uruguay, which forms the border with Argentinaand is bounded by low banks. The most important of the three rivers, which also happens to be the longest, is RГo Negro. RГo Negro travels across the northeast of the country to the west, and empties into RГo Uruguay. • 7. School Counselors I believe the next important ingredient for multicultural competence is cultural skills. A skilled counselor utilizes the interventions that are client based and which serve clients needs. A positive reaction would be to be connected to those different cultures communication is the key. In multicultural counseling the counselor needs to be more aware his or her limitations in counseling skills. I feel it s vital to have cultural skills in order to serve multicultural populations in the most productive way to facilitate. By being culturally aware and recognizing how culturewill affect the counseling process, this cultural awareness will support the counselor in developing an empathic understanding towards clients. Admittedly, it can be a fine line to walk between not imposing our values yet helping students develop social skills and self understanding that will enhance their efforts to become successful adults. In the leadership role it s not up to the counselor to fix all problems. All through the years the role the school counselors play in using information uniquely available to them to examine and change current policy and practice. Whether it be course taking patterns, student placements, or student success and failure rates, school counselors are poised to be key change agents within the school. That is a big job that I feel school counselors don t get credit for enough. Many times, school counselors are told what to do by administrators who fail to understand the contribution the school counselor can make to the school. If anything that I feel I disagree is that credit that the counselors don t get. Some of the duties that have historically been assigned to the school counselor are data entry; clerical record keeping; registration and scheduling of all new students; coordinating or administering cognitive, aptitude and achievement tests; responsibility for signing excuses for students who are tardy or absent; performing disciplinary actions; sending students home who are not appropriately ... • 8. Reconstruction During The Civil War Essay Reconstruction The United States went through many changes after the Civil War and during the Reconstruction period of 1866 1877. Before Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on December, 1863, by John Wilkes, Lincoln announced the first Reconstruction plan a year before the Civil War had ended and Lincoln offered general amnesty to white southerners who would pledge an oath of loyalty to the government and accept the abolition of slavery. During the summer of 1865, Johnson not long after he took office had revealed his plan for Reconstruction or as he preferred to call it Restoration, which reflected both his staunch Unionism and his firm belief in states rights. He offered some form of amnesty to Southerners who would take the oath of allegiance. In 1865 and 1866, under the administration of President Andrew Johnson new southern state legislatures passed restrictive black codes to control the labor and behavior of former slaves and other African Americans. North outraged over these codes eroded support which led to the triumph of the more radical wing of the Republican Party and the approach known as Presidential Reconstruction. During Radical Reconstruction which began in 1866, and for the first time in American history, blacks gained a voice in government and they won elections to southern state legislatures and even to the U.S. Congress. In less than a decade, however, reactionary forces including the Ku Klux Klan would reverse the changes wrought by Radical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. What Is The Hunger In Nigeria Jocelyn Bennett Instructor Williamson ENG III 8 December 2017 The Hunger in Nigeria The world s hunger is ridiculous. There is more fruit in a rich man s shampoo than on a poor man s plate (The World S). Nigeria consists of 186 million people and of those 450,000 are malnourished children (Nigeria). A malnourished child is one not receiving the appropriate amount of nutrients in their system. In America, this can be from eating a substantial amount of unhealthy food or from not eating enough.. Unfortunately, the situation in Nigeria is strictly not obtaining enough food or any at all. Nigeria is only one of many that need help in getting food to its people. Therefore, the number of people with an inadequate amount of food in Nigeria is increasing due to conflict and needs to be decreased due to it causing a variety of diseases and making it easier for viruses to spread throughout the country. The question the whole world has been asking is why the amount of Nigeria s malnourished population has increased. It all begins with a group named Boko Haram. Boko Haram is a group similar to ISIS and has been capturing multiple cities throughout Nigeria. The group is making it extremely difficult for the natives to continue their farming, as well as their everyday life. The Nigerian government has been trying extremely hard to gain control of their cities once again (Conflict). However, there have been many times where Nigeria was too late. Boko Haram has harmed and killed over 100,000 people in Borno alone.(Nigeria) The group has managed to force over two million people to relocate their lives elsewhere within the region of Nigeria. This can be referred to as internally displacing someone (Tukur). Nigeria has been trying it s hardest to recapture the sites taken, especially Borno. Unfortunately, Boko Haram hasn t been stopped yet and the number of malnourished natives is rapidly increasing. According to Inland Valley Daily, each day, about 29,000 children worldwide die from hungerand preventable diseases such as malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea, and acute respiratory infections (Guerrero). The malnutrition in Nigeria may not seem like such a problem; however, it is a major one. The Nigerian population cannot grow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A crowded auditorium littered with the beautiful people of Hollywood and the music industry once again gathered in Los Angeles to honor the year s most popular recording artists. But, no doubt to his great dismay, they were no more less relevant on this evening in 1991 then they were when he wrote them in the midst of then President Lyndon Johnson s controversial deployment of American troops to Vietnam. The audience that evening wasn t watching some fly by night hipster playing senseless fluff. They were caste in the shadow of the most prophetic musical figure of the last fifty years. A man whose inner fire forged a new musical frontier and shaped an entire generation of American youth. Background The man affectionately known as Bob Dylan to millions of fans worldwide was actually born Robert Zimmerman on May 24, 1941 in Hibbing, Minnesota. Hibbing is a desolate mining town on the outskirts of Duluth, near the Canadian border. Zimmerman s father was a local business owner, operating an appliance and furniture store in Hibbing. As a boy, young Robert was introverted and secretive. As he reached adolescence Robert became a talented storyteller with a tendency to fabricate stories about his past to such an extent as to make the truth difficult to decipher. With age came the renouncing of his Jewish faith, just one of many rebellious stands taken in that period. Those closest to Robert at that time attributed his rejection of Judaism to the boy s dislike for the small town business community that his father ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

William was already the ruler of Normandy and this, the battle of hastings would give him his second country to rule. Although he would become ruler of England he still didn t go there much he lived in Normandy, and was a very respectable and experienced ruler, under his reign the church flourished. William the conqueror in the battle of hastings. September 27 is when things started going William s way, the wind shifted and started moving them right into England. Directly after reaching shore William decided to make his move and as stated in the document William I. William rallied the fleeing horsemen, however, and they turned and slaughtered the foot soldiers chasing them. On two subsequent occasions, William s horsemen feigned retreat, which fooled Harold s soldiers, who were then killed by their opponents. Harold s brothers were also killed early in the battle. Toward nightfall the king himself fell, struck in the eye by an arrow according to Norman accounts, and the English gave up. (par.1) this quote shows that William knew what he was doing and did the right thing and also that he wasn t scared. William was about to become a ruler of another country. William was already good and experienced at ruling so thus should be no problem for him. The Code Red By Lance Corporal Harold Lance Corporal Harold Dawson and Private First Class Louden Downey enter Private First Class Santiago s bunk room to perform a code red, a form of punishment used by military personal that is not in protocols; the two men were following an order given to them by a superior officer. At Guantanamo Bay orders are taken very seriously. A quote from the film, A Few Good Men, states they are not permitted to disobey orders, showing that the two men had no other choice because they were ordered to do it (Reiner). The men followed through with a code red rather than disobeying direct orders, which is against their beliefs as a unit. Following commands is a very important part of keeping order. Now imagine a row of blue clad Navy soldiers, carrying out drills in perfect unison, if just one person were to break orders and fail to correctly initiate their portion of the drill it makes every singular other soldier look bad, including themselves, thus creating an incentive to not break orders and not mess up no matter what the situation. Furthermore, should someone always follow orders? In the case of Downey and Dawson following an order ended up getting an innocent man killed. Milgram points out that the ordinary person who shocked the victim did so out of a sense of obligation an impression of his duties as a subject (par 96). Dawson and Downey carried out the requested code red because they felt obligated. As a result, they were obligated to ignore their own personal morals and do the commands of another person. Another explanation is provided by MacDonald is the mission in way to get the job done might at times cause a certain degree of sadism. (par. 8) So, it seems that over time soldiers derive satisfaction from acting out violent orders and because of this and the combined effects of war, they seem to disregard other humans physical pain which in turn makes taking orders that much easier. • 20. Examples Of Generation Gap In A Raisin In The Sun Bernard Rosenberg, an author who wrote books about societal issues in the 1970s, once wrote, Generation Gap: A chasm, amorphously situated in time and space, that separates those who have grown up absurd from those who will, with luck, grow up absurd. People grown up in different environments or times have their own morals or methods of operation that would not be politically correct today. This leads to a generation gap between young and old people. The difference between an educated twenty year old with prodigious dreams (Beneatha) and a conservative woman in her early sixties (Mama) is demonstrated In A Raisin in the Sun written by Lorraine Hansberry with how it shows generation separates dreams, values, and cultural perspectives as shown with Beneatha and Mama. Beneatha and Mama s dreams are separated because of Beneatha s dreams of becoming a doctor. Female doctors in the 1950s were seen not as accredible in their field. When Ruth tells Mama about her appointment for her pregnancy and the female doctor she went to, Mama says, She What doctor you went to? (61). To Mama going to a female doctor is seen as giving up the baby which is the worst thing possible in Mama s mind. Mama undermines Beneatha as a doctor or any other female doctor because Mama was raised in a generation where the workforce was dominated by men while women were housewives. Another choice Mama disagrees with is Beneatha choice to not get married. Mama pesters Beneatha many times about marriage, but Beneatha never agreed. This was shown when Beneatha said, I m going to be a doctor. I m not worried about who I m going to marry if I ever get married (50). Beneatha wants to be a strong independent female doctor and not a housewife; besides, Mama believes that women should be married; nevertheless, they should not take on such a male dominated job. Many times Mama pushes Beneatha to marry a rich man, George Murchison, instead of supporting her dreams because Beneatha s dreams are not the traditional life style. The relocation and imprisonment of Japanese Americans during World War II has been and always will be a dark stain in American History. Due to America s lingering racism and prejudices, many of our fellow Americans had to experience an ordeal that no other American should ever have to face. They lost their homes, businesses, land and more importantly, their freedoms, during a moment of time that was filled with resentment, mistrust, fear and hatred towards a fellow man (American) that was just as willing to fight and die for their country. On December 7, 1941, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. The next day, the United Statesand Britain declared war on Japan. Two months later, on February 19, 1942, the lives of thousands of Japanese Americans were dramatically changed when President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066. This order led to the assembly and evacuation and relocation of nearly 122,000 men, women, and children of Japanese ancestry on the west coast of the United States. BACKGROUND Human blood is not an ordinary commodity because it cannot be substituted and its need will always exist. Blood and blood products are also perishable, which complicates things even further. Shortages lead to high costs for society and outdates on the other hand are not commonly accepted either, since blood donors are a scarce asset of society and donors must respect a certain time period between two donations, depending on the type of donation. Blood Bank services are a key component of the healthcare system all over the world and a well organised Blood Transfusion Service is a vital component of any health care delivery system and yet the study and the analysis of such systems from a supply chain perspective have been a few especially in India. And indeed the distance between him and Charles is never great, Tolstoy, through Anna s hatred, tries to make of him a caricature of a man as Flaubert did with Charles. The cartilage of his ears, his weary eyes, slow voice, flat feet, the way he swings his pelvis, the blue veins on his white hands, the cracking of his knuckles, all these details recall very closely the stamp Emma abhors in Charles. (8). I feel that the speaker is reminiscing over how his father used to get him up early on Sunday mornings to help with anything his father needed help with. I remember when I was a young boy, my father would make me get up early on Saturday morning to help him cut some yards he used to tell me early birds catch the worms back then I couldn t understand why he was making me get up and go to work with him, but now I see that he was only doing that to make me a man and also there was offices that I had to do. The speaker attitude is most likely the same he is looking back when he was younger seeing what his father was making him do was to make him a man and to show him that he had to work to survive. Conclusion, The author Robert Hayden feels that he will never know how much his father has done for him as a child. • 35. Short-Term Synthesis Within the hippocampus, long term potentiation (LTP) results due to the increased activity between a presynaptic and a postsynaptic neuron. The stimulation and subsequent depolarisation of a presynaptic CA3 pyramidal neuron results in the opening of voltage gated calcium channels (VGCC). Thus, an influx in Ca2+ occurs, and glutamate vesicles are fused via synaptotagmin. The fusing of these vesicles allows the release of glutamate, a neurotransmitter which will bind to AMPA receptors and induce the influx of Na+ into the postsynaptic CA1 pyramidal neuron. This will result in the depolarisation of the postsynaptic neuron, which is one of the requirements for the opening and consequent induction of Ca2+ through the NMDA receptor. Through a cascade... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The test groups that wrote out the content 10x showed a significant increase in short term memory versus test groups that utilised no writing. These results indicate that repetition increases neural activity and thereby increases the levels of short term synaptic plasticity (STP). The effects of STP can last between a few millisecond to minutes, whilst long term synaptic plasticity can last from minutes to years (Pinar et al., 2017). The short term memory results are therefore not a strong indicator of the strength of LTP occurring. In order to analyse this, long term memory was measured three weeks later. The test group that viewed a relatable movie before writing out the content 10x, displayed a significantly higher long term memory recall, and therefore showed an increase in LTP. Students within the other groups showed lower levels of LTP which may have being caused by the LTD. LTD is the opposing mechanism of LTP, resulting in a decreased synaptic strength and therefore eliminating the formation of the memory. It occurs when Ca2+ flows through a voltage gated calcium channels within the postsynaptic neuron, resulting in an alternative Ca2+ encoding. This different encoding activates a protein phosphatase which induces a protein cascade that will dephosphorylate and remove APMA receptors from the neural membrane. This deregulation of AMPA receptors weakens the neural synapse and thereby results in the elimination of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Attrition From Higher Education Institution 1. INTRODUCTION Attrition from Higher Education Institution (HEI) programmes is worryingly on the increase (Russell Group 2010). However, students that drop out of pre registration nursing programmes are of particular concern, not only to the HEI but the Government and the NHS also due to the requirement to meet the needs of the NHS recruitment and demands of an increasingly ageing society that relies on qualified nurses (DOH 2007). Indeed the type of funding that student nurses receive and the amount of money that is invested by Strategic Health Authorities (SHA) and Government in them suggests that attrition is a costly problem (DOH 2009). It is difficult to gather specific statistical data regarding attrition rates as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A more recent report produced by the Department of Health states that the attrition rate from pre registration nursing programmes stands at 16% (DOH 2010). This statistic differs greatly from the national average of 27% reported direct to the RCN by the HEIs. The United Kingdom figures do generally appear favourable however compared to countries such as Italy (65%) and the USA (37%) (International Audit office, 2007). Statistics produced by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (2011) highlight that the percentage drop out rate for students on all types of Degree level programmes is relatively low at approximately 10% whereas for those studying the Diploma level programme the drop out rate increases to 17%. Therefore the statistics identified for attrition from pre registration nursing programmes are higher that the average attrition rate of all other Degree and Diploma programmes. A higher completion rate among pre registration nurses will enhance the NHS workforce of qualified nurses and will help towards the Department of Health Our Health, Our Care, Our Say (DOH 2006a) goal to ensure individual excellence of care for all. Higher retention of students would also aide the HEIs involved in the education of pre registration nursing as SHA and Government targets will be met and financial penalties ... • 41. Ophelia In Hamlet Essay Polonius, Ophelia s father, embodies the theories the Other and a lack of female agency while discussing with Ophelia a similar case to her brother. In act 1 scene 3 of Hamlet, Polonius decides to inform Ophelia of the same matters that Laertes provides her. While Ophelia is departing from sending off her brother, Polonius asks Ophelia what her and her brother were discussing, resulting in her receiving unsolicited advice from her father on how to handle Hamlet s sexual and romantic advances. Polonius states, Tender yourself more dearly / Or ... / you ll tender me a fool. (1.3.107 109). What he is stating here is that if Ophelia does not respect herself and succumbs to Hamlet s lustful actions, Polonius will be painted as a fool. Similar to Laertes disccusion, Polonius s comment to Ophelia marks the notion that Ophelia cannot be respected if she operates in sexual endeavors. This idea represents Balizet s notion that women s sexuality is a patriarchal standard and also represents de Beauvoir s notion that a womanis not sexual unless with a man. However, there is a deeper standard that is portrayed by Polonius that is a necessity to address. In the quote provided above, Polonius discusses that his respect will be lost as well if Ophelia acts on lust because he is her father. This form of selfishness that is represented within Polonius s speech supports de Beauvoir s theory that women are thought of to be as the Other of men. For Neddy Merrill, the main character in The Swimmer by John Cheever, prosperity is solely associated with wealth and social standing. In this essay, I will argue that contrasting images of the public and private pools, encountered by Neddy swimming across his upper class neighbourhood, reflect his obsession with material and social success, which ultimately deserted him in desperation at the end of the story. Neddy initially compares the public pool to a sink (Cheever, 177). The word sink carries a negative connotation, as its common function is to hold dirty dishes. By comparing the public pool to a sink , it also likens public pool users to dirty dishes, revealing that Neddy is looking down on people who cannot afford a private pool. Moreover, as Neddy entering the public pool, he remarks on his longing for the sapphire water and thinks that he might contaminate himself damage his own prosperousness and charm by swimming in this murk (Cheever 177). The Statement of Principles by the International Conference on Cataloguing Principles in Paris in 1961 established the rules and concepts that create catalog standardization for libraries multinationally. Based, in part, on Samuel Lubetzky s unfinished book Code of cataloging rules; author and title entry. An unfinished draft for a new edition of cataloging rules (1960), the Paris Principles created order in a library community that was much less communal than it is today by modernizing antiquated cataloging systems and bringing consensus and consistency to the world of library information organization (Lubetzky, 1960). Communal borrowing and sharing of bibliographic data was primarily implemented to serve library catalogs, particularly of large general libraries and are designed for printed books and documents (Frost 1983). Here in lies the weakness of this system libraries have evolved. With the move from the Paris Principles to AACR2 (Anglo American cataloguing rules, second edition) and the evolution toward RDA (Resource description and access), modern library catalogers are finding less and less of a need for the main entry point in a record, or at least the traditional main entry point of an author s name or a resource s title (Ridley, 1997). They are able to turn nothing into something and use it for the greater good of their own communities. Since the Great Renaissance and the inception of the Black Wall Street, African Americans were a force to American society. Through the Black Wall Street, with their own money, Blacks were able to open up jobs and business that would recreate and maintain the socioeconomic flow within their own communities. Businesses, shops, banks, and health care facilities came out of the Black Wall Street. Since its destruction in 1921, African Americans and their sense of having something that they can call their own has not been revitalized. There are a few ways that African Americans can give to themselves, which will continue to give throughout the year.
