The Trade Routes And The Spread Of Islam
The Malian Trade Routes and the Impact on West Africa Through the Spread of Islam Along These
Routes The trade routes of Mali are not as well known as others like the Silk Road, but they were
influential in the trade of North Africa and forever influenced history. These trade routes conveyed
gold, salt, and, to a lesser extent, copper to empires in the Middle East and Mediterranean. However,
the most influential effect of these trade routes was the spread of Islam throughout West and Central
Africa. The empire of Mali rose in the early 13th century and soon expanded. The empire controlled
all of the main trade routes throughout West Africa, which are collectively referred to as the Malian
trade routes. These trade routes were vital to most of the world. Berber traders from northern Africa
came along these routes to get gold and salt, vital for the flavoring and more importantly the
preservation of food, to trade to the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean empires. In addition, traders
from northwestern Africa brought salt along these routes to major trading cities in Mali, to trade to the
Berber traders and merchants from Central Africa. Mali had so much gold and the trade of gold was so
important to the rest of the world that maps of the ancient world depicted Mali with a gold nugget or
with a man wearing a gold crown sitting on a gold throne and holding a gold spear in one hand and a
gold coin the size of his head in his other hand. The salt trade was also very

Roman Gladiators
The Romans liked watching other people die; their gladiator games were there live entertainment. It is
believed that the first gladiators were slaves who were made to fight to the death at the funeral of a
famous aristocrat, Junius Brutus Pera, in 264 BC. The fight between the two was arranged in his
honor. Gradually the gladiator games became separated from funeral ceremonies and were staged by
the wealthy as a means of displaying their power and influence among the people in the local
community. The wealthy and elite classes could promote themselves by sponsoring the games, and
paying to put the show on. The term Gladiator comes from the term gladius after the Roman sword.
The gladiators were mostly prosecuted criminals, imprisoned soldiers and slaves. These people would
be forced to fight other prisoners, sometimes until their death in the case that it was decided for him to
die, usually by the spectators. Rarely gladiators would be free, men would sometimes volunteer to be a
gladiator and take on the status of a slave to reap the benefits of fame that came along with the title,
the fans and money .But the most likely reason why people volunteered was the down payment that a
volunteer received upon taking the gladiator oath. When this oath was taken it meant that the owner
the now gladiator had total control over the gladiator s life, making him lowered the status of a slave.
Gladiators were known for

Looking Back at the OJ Simpson Case
The numerous ups, downs, and controversies surrounding the life of former star football player OJ
Simpson have led to a strangely divided collective memory of the man. The term collective memory
refers to a shared pool of information held in the memories of a group from aggregated individual
recollections. The story of OJ Simpson s life is both sad and puzzling after overcoming adversity to
become one of the best football players of all time and a public figure beloved by many Simpson
would go on to put himself in a worse situation than ever before. Orenthal James Simpson otherwise
known as O.J. Simpson or The Juice was born July 9, 1947 in San Francisco, California. O.J. Simpson

Capricorn One, Back to the Beach, and the Naked Gun Trilogy. OJ even started his own production

Ohio s Ice Age
Although difficult to imagine, Ohio has at vari ous times in the recent geologic past (within the last
1.6 million years) had three quarters of its surface covered by vast sheets of ice perhaps as much as 1
mile thick. This period of geologic history is referred to as the Pleistocene Epoch or, more commonly,
the Ice Age, although there is abundant evidence that Earth has experienced numerous other ice ages
throughout its 4.6 billion years of existence.
Ice Age glaciers invading Ohio formed in cen tral Canada in response to climatic conditions that
allowed massive buildups of ice. Because of their great thickness, these ice masses flowed under their
own weight and ultimately moved south as far as northern Kentucky. Oxygen isotope analysis ... Show

Lake deposits are primarily fine grained clay and silt size sediments. The most extensive area of lake
deposits is in north ern Ohio bordering Lake Erie. These deposits, and adjacent areas of wave planed
ground moraine, are the result of sedimentation and erosion by large lakes that occupied the Erie basin
as Wisconsinan age ice retreated into Canada. Other lake deposits accumulated in stream valleys
whose outlets were temporarily dammed by ice or outwash. Many outwash dammed lake deposits are
present in southeastern Ohio far beyond the glacial boundary. Peat deposits are associated with many
lake deposits and formed through the accu mulation of partially decayed aquatic vegetation in oxygen
depleted, stagnant water.
The term glacial drift commonly is used to re fer to any material deposited directly (e.g., ground
moraine) or indirectly (e.g., outwash) by a glacier. Because the ice that invaded Ohio came from
Canada, it carried in many rock types not found in Ohio. Pebbles, cobbles, and boulders of these
foreign rock types are called erratics. Rock collect ing in areas of glacial drift may yield granite,
gneiss, trace quantities of gold, and very rarely, diamonds. Most rocks found in glacial deposits,
however, are types native to

Machiavelli Archetypes
The Ideal Machiavellian Leader The media portrays a vast number of archetypes through the
animation of characters. Specifically, the archetype of a good leader is continually placed on display
and desired by the masses to be successful. The concept of a good leader is dated, and has been
introduced in the past several times by the famous writer, Niccolo Machiavelli. It is an archetype that
is a constant variable that is not bound by generation. Film adopts these same principles of the highly
coveted leader and brings them to life visually. Characters that are successful at gaining followers and
building positive relationships exemplify the traits of good leaders, whereas characters that cannot
solidify a following exemplify bad leaders. Niccolo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A good leader must have a strong personality. This person s personality must be able to induce people
into following him/her. Machiavelli defines this superior, advantageous personality as half beast, half
man (Machiavelli, N). Additionally, Machiavelli states it is important for a leader to know how to
make use of both natures and that one without the other is not durable (Machiavelli, N) Machiavelli
manufactures the connection of a good leader needing to understand how to effectively deal with
different types of people. A good leader s personality must be adaptable, to travel between man and
beast. The man persona may be more suitable for a compassionate person, while the beast persona
may work best with an aggressive person. This interpretation is depicted in Prison Break through the
protagonist Michael Scofield, in his relationships with the other inmates. For instance, in season 1
Michael purposely gets arrested and placed into prison. He requests to be in the same prison as his
older brother that is on death row, for a crime he is wrongly convicted of committing. His objective is
to break his brother out before he is executed. Michael is aware that he cannot achieve this by

The Importance Of My Experience At A College Band Camp
Have you ever spent a week at a college band camp? Unfortunately, it does not resemble the iconic
scene from the classic film, American Pie. This narrative depicts why I decided to attend Southwestern
rather than other colleges such as Oklahoma State University, University of Oklahoma, and Wichita
State University. My fellow band friends and I took a three hour journey to Weatherford from
Blackwell to attend the Southwestern Band Camp for four days. As soon as we reached our
destination, I realized that this was where I wanted to be. When I stepped out of the cramped car, a
cool breeze blew across my face. On this ninety four degree mid summer day, band kids were walking
aimlessly trying to find the correct building to go to. As for myself, I knew exactly where to go. Check
in was at 1PM in the Oklahoma Hall and luckily for us, I had scoped out the campus on Google maps
to try and figure everything out. I knew once we exited the car that we needed to cross the street and
head towards the building that looked like an x . Once we had checked in and placed our suitcases
placed in the assigned dorms, we got our instruments out and headed towards the Fine Arts building.
Auditions were separated by the type of instrument you played. Unfortunately, I had to separate from
my friends since I played the bass clarinet and they played the saxophone. I had lost my way several
times. Students were pacing the hallways and loud jabber between fellow instrumentalists about the

Bullying

For the Wikipedia guidance essay, see Wikipedia:WikiBullying
Bullying is detrimental to students well being and development.[1]
Bullying is the use of force or coercion to abuse or intimidate others. The behavior can be habitual and
involve an imbalance of social or physical power. It can include verbal harassment or threat, physical
assault or coercion and may be directed repeatedly towards particular victims, perhaps on grounds of
race, religion, gender, sexuality, or ability.[2][3] If bullying is done by a group, it is called mobbing.

The Fifth Volume of the Newgate Calendar[11] contains at least one example where Eton Scholars
George Alexander Wood and Alexander Wellesley Leith were charged, at Aylesbury Assizes, with
killing and slaying the Hon. F. Ashley Cooper on February 28, 1825 in an incident which might today
be described as lethal hazing .[12] The Newgate calendar contains several other examples that, while
not as distinct, could be considered indicative of situations of bullying. Virginia Woolf considered
fascism to be a form of bullying, and wrote of Hitler and the Nazis in 1934 as these brutal bullies .[13]

Anti bullying movement
In the 2000s and 2010s, a cultural movement against bullying gained popularity in the English

Racial Inequality In To Kill A Mockingbird Essay
In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee shows a lot of racial or social issues, especially against the
African Americans, such as racial inequality and poor treatment of the poor or homeless; both of these
are still at least partially seen today. Harper Lee uses the unfair trial of Tom Robinson and his cruel
death to show racial inequality, especially towards the African Americans. Towards the end of the trial,
Lee describes how the jury acts when they come back in as: A jury never looks at a defendant it has
convicted, and when this jury came in, not one of them looked at Tom Robinson... (Lee 282). Then,
Judge Taylor announces the verdict: Guilty... guilty... guilty... guilty... (Lee 282). Later on, Atticus
comes home after finding out about Tom Robinson s death: Tom s dead.... They got him just as he
went over the fence.... Seventeen bullet holes in him (Lee 315). Based on this evidence, it is clear that
racial inequality was evident in the 1930 s because with prior knowledge from the novel, we know
that Tom didn t stand much of a chance against the jury because of his being African American. Also,
if a white man had done what Tom did, he probably would have been given a fairer trial than Tom
was. Even though, the police obviously wanted him dead as he tried to escape prison, there was no
reason to shoot him seventeen times. Racial inequality can still been seen in the country, and around
the world, but doesn t seem to be as bad as it had been; some statistics show it improved soon after,
but some facts show it took longer. One statistic showing that racial inequality has gotten better states,
In 1980, over 50% of the Blacks aged 25 or more had completed high school, and, by 2012, 85%
(Coleman 183).One fact stating that racial inequality took a while before improving states, Even after
the slaves were freed, the African Americans continued to face legal discrimination and segregation
until the victories of the civil rights movement in the 1960 s ( Preface to What... 1). This evidence
shows that racial inequality didn t really improve at first. After the civil rights movement, things
improved for the African Americans. From the statistic, the reader knows that between 1980 and 2012,
a little over 1% more of the

Indian Ocean Region Analysis
The commercial life in the Indian Ocean region during 650 C.E to 1750 C.E was altered, mainly so
after the fall of the Mongol Empire in the 14th century. The fall ultimately led to a number of changes,
such as The Columbian Exchange which affected what they traded, and competition for control
between Portuguese and Arabs over who would control the trade region. Although changes occurred,
the trade routes stayed the same during the region. The fall of the Mongol Empire attracted trade the
Indian Ocean region as well as who they traded with. They gained new goods from the Americas, such
as silver and the potato, which created popular demand for them in the Indian Ocean region. This
changed what was traded in the region.

What Is The Culture Of America s Pastime
The Culture of America s Pastime What is culture? Culture is what makes us different. No one culture

even what country you re from. Most cultures are rich with diversity. Some are not as much as others.
One thing that doesn t matter in culture is what race you are, or what color your skin is. Culture bring
us together as a race and diversifies us as individuals. Sports culture is very different. In sports today,
it doesn t matter what race you are, what religion you are, or what size or shape you are. Sports have

People think that baseball is a boring sport to watch (Miller). The games are very long, lasting an
average of three hours. The game can also go into extra innings which can add more than an hour. The
longest game lasted 8 hours and 25 minutes and went 33 innings in 1984. The score was only 4 3
(MLB.com). Baseball can be boring at some times, there will always be lulls in between pitches and
innings. Baseball also have expensive tickets. The MLB average is $31 per ticket. An average family
of four would have to pay more than $120 just to watch the game. The Boston Red Sox average price
is more than $50 (Statista.com). Many people cannot afford to go to a game. Another thing that makes
it less interesting is that the scores are low. Many MLB games I have watched usually don t having
scores that exceed 5 runs. When a team scores more runs and gets more hits, the game is more
exciting and intense. When teams are only getting four or five hits the entire game and scoring 2 runs,
it can slow the game down and make it more boring. As Sam Miller said in his article, What are they
even trying to do in baseball, you know? What s the metaphor? In football, it s like war, tackle each
other before they get to the end zone. Baseball, on the other hand, is more like cops and robbers, you
have to strategize and do things that aren t conventional in other sports. Baseball is a slow moving

Inside Out Developmental Theory
The development of the human social behavior is dictated by a variety of factors. Essentially, these
factors act as the catalysts for the subsequent changes that are evident in the behavioral profile of a
given individual as he or she grows (Cavanaugh Blanchard Fields, 2015). In this regard, it is essential
to fathom the bio social development theories, developmental stages theories as well as the
development theories. To depict these behavioral changes, this paper will use the concept of the movie
Inside Out in the depiction of these changes. Released in 2015, Inside Out is a Disney produced

The personality of Riley changes as a result of the reaction to the external environmental stimuli. This
is evident as she dislikes her new home as well as the imbalance of the memories as pushed by the
external stimuli. Such changes include the social life in San Francisco, the bad pizza, and lack of
compatible friends in her new school. Riley s life is a clear illustration of the developmental stage
theories. Ideally, these theories focus on the quantitative differences that are evident in the behavioral
changes in a child s development (Newman Newman, 2015). The life personality of Riley changed as
she grew in different stages. For instance, she developed her ice hockey skills from an amateur skill
stage to a more professional stage in her senior school stages. Additionally, her parents become less
attached to her as she grows older, thus assuming a more independent personality. The movie
illustrates practical behavioral changes that are evident in my life as well. For instance, the impact of
the bio social development is evident in the effect of environmental factors on the personality
development (Ellis Tucker, 2015). For instance, my relocation to a better neighborhood subjected me
to difficult socialization following the class difference. Additionally, my personality has changed
greatly as I grew older and more

The number of people applying for unemployment benefits last week rose unexpectedly and the Greek
government s response to its debt crisis sparked new protests in Athens, but analysts said neither event

They said more insvestors seemed to be grasping the possibility that the U.S. recovery could be in
jeopardy, and that many were realizing that the stock market s big rebound since March 2009

Some of the most common stimulants are methamphetamine, caffeine, nicotine, cocaine, and Ecstasy.
Methamphetamine is a highly addictive stimulant drug. Its physical effects include disturbed sleep
patterns, Nausea, and Bizarre, erratic, sometimes violent behavior. Methamphetamine increases the
amount of dopamine, which results in increased chemicals in the brain. Methamphetamine is a
dopamine agonist. Caffeine is a CNS stimulant. It is the world s most consumed drug. Some physical
effects include high blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, and hyperglycemia. Caffeine binds to our brain s
adenosine receptors; preventing the chemical from binding with the receptors and making us tired.
(This is what caffeine does to your brain, 2014) Caffeine is a receptor antagonist. Nicotine is a highly
addictive chemical substance present in tobacco. Some physical effects include heart disease, stroke,
and depression. The nicotine molecule is shaped like a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine.
Acetylcholine and its receptors are involved in many functions, including muscle movement,
breathing, heart rate, learning, and memory. They also cause the release of other neurotransmitters and
hormones that affect your mood, appetite, memory, and more. When nicotine gets into the brain, it
attaches to acetylcholine receptors and mimics the actions of acetylcholine. (How Does Nicotine Act
in the Brain? 2015) Nicotine is an agonist to ACH. Cocaine is a highly addictive drug synthetically
derived from coca. Some physical effects of cocaine include increased heart rate, body temperature,
and increased rate of breathing. Normally, dopamine is then recycled back into the transmitting neuron
by a specialized protein called the dopamine transporter. If cocaine is present, it attaches to the
dopamine transporter and blocks the normal recycling process, resulting in a buildup of dopamine in
the synapse, which contributes to the pleasurable effects of cocaine.

Essay on Leonardo da Vinci s The Last Supper
Leonardo s Last Supper is a priceless piece of art with much hidden meaning and obvious talents

Although, the way Leonardo allows its viewers to depict the scene from a specific point in the Bible
adds to the importance and significance of the painting in which no other artist could even compare.
He does allow the viewer to recognize this scene by the gestures of both the Lord and the Apostles.
The Lord sits ever so quietly while the Apostles rise in reaction to what the Lord had just announced.
It is rather obvious that Leonardo chose the critical moment after the Lord had stated, Verily I say unto
you that one of you shall betray me, because of the emotions that evolve in this specific scene (Matt.
26.21).
He took much time to express every detail of each Apostle and the Lord. Leonardo had even wrote in
one of his notebooks that A good painter has two chief objects to paint man and the intention of his
soul. The former is easy, the latter hard because he has to represent it by the attitude and movement of
the limbs (Heydenreich, 27). For example, the Lord is very relaxed with his arms resting on the table
which adds to the portrayal of His greatness. He also emphasized the Lord s greatness by giving Him a
serious attitude and by presenting Him as untouchable with the space between Himself and the
Apostles.
The distance put between them is called the spacial perspective, which is one of the techniques
Leonardo feels is important in naturalistic art. Although, the

Why the Internet is Vulnerable
In the beginning network protocols that formed part of the Internet infrastructure were designed
without security in mind. Without a fundamentally secure infrastructure, network defense becomes
more difficult. Furthermore, the Internet is an extremely dynamic environment in terms of both
topology and emerging technology. [COH95]
First, because of the inherent openness of the Internet and the original design of the protocols, Internet
attacks in general are quick, easy, inexpensive, and may be hard to detect or trace. [KRO92]
Second, many sites place unwarranted trust in the Internet. It is common for sites to be unaware of the
risks or unconcerned about the amount of the trust they place in the Internet.
Third, much of the traffic on the Internet is not encrypted, confidentiality and integrity are difficult to
achieve. This situation undermines not only applications (such as financial applications that are
network based) but also more fundamental mechanisms such as authentication and no repudiation.
Fourth, another factor contributing to the vulnerability of the Internet is the rapid growth and use of
the network, accompanied by rapid deployment of the network services involving complex
applications. Often these services are not designed, configured, or maintained

Reflection About Hunting
Hunting has dated back to ancient times when there were massive sheets of ice covering the planet,
and yet, all of the evolving the human race has done, it is still a crucial part of some people s everyday
life. It has been a family tradition for dads to take their sons into the woods, and teach them the ways
of stalking your prey, and finally killing it. On my eighth birthday, I woke up to my dad dressed in a
camouflage top holding onto a bow and arrow and a massive white target standing at his feet. His first
words were we are going to have fun today . I instantly thought that that day I was going to be killing
my first animal, but to my dismay, it turned out that blood was not shed for three years.
I loved that bow and arrow, and I can remember everyday after school I would go to the garage and
shoot that bow to the point where I couldn t manage to draw it back. After about month, I had lost
hope in killing anything with that bow because I was not able to shoot it straight. There was a time
that I was shooting in the garage at a target, and the arrow slipped out of my hand, and it had managed
to hit a bottle of lighter fluid. Granted I there was not enough force behind the arrow to push it the
entire way through the can, but it was enough to spill the lighter fluid all over my foam target. I was
no longer to use my bow and arrow unsupervised.

The National Infrastructure Protection Plan Essay
Introduction The private sector plays a vital role in carrying out the objectives within all 16 sector
specific plans. The Emergency Services Sector includes but is not limited to first responding services
such as; public work, fire, medical or police services. The goals and objectives of ESS specific plans
are to provide first responder services as one of their main missions is the prevention to life. This
sector is extremely important as they are the first responders to any type of incident that may even be
impacted to other sectors. The National Infrastructure Protection Plan for this sector describes the
tasks, duties and responsibilities that the private sector has in order to effectively and successfully
operate this types of critical infrastructures. Just like any other sector, this sector requires the private
sector to have a good relationship with state, local, tribal, territorial governments, Federal Government
and outside organizations as well. Threats, risks, and vulnerabilities are acknowledged and analyzed in
every respective infrastructure as they are all different. All factors are then prioritized in order to

My Perfect Vacation Home
As a family, every once in a while we need a vacation where we can get a great getaway from the
norm and hustles of life. A perfect vacation home in the florida keys makes the purpose for my family
and me. I can t think of a better place to spend my summer than in this perfectly weathered place that
glares at the face of the ocean. It s always a new experience every weekend we visit the place no
matter how often we do, it s always a perfect place for me.
Earlier on when I was a teenager, my parents had a holiday cabin in the mountains, a place far from
our house. However, it was a cool place to be, free from all the noise in the city and beautiful snow
mountains, for me a vacation mean not only means a cool place with convenience, but also a place
you can feel free and get to bond with the environment freely and adorably. When people hear of
vacation homes especially in such a place as in Florida, what comes to mind is that it s got to be very
expensive to get a home in such a place with all the high property prices and the interest rates
involved. However, coming to think of it again, the package that comes with such a house as
compared to the other options such as a rented home are just incomparable. There various notable
things that are made me love our vacation home and not think of other place nor other option. Like I
stated earlier, we previously had a vacation home in the mountains far from the place we lived but it
was not until we got a new vacation house in

Summary Of Claudia Macteer
Summary
Claudia MacTeer is an adult, telling us about certain events that took place in the fall of 1941. She was
a child back then, around nine years old, but she still remembered how the marigolds didn t bloom that
fall, and she and her sister thought it was probably because of their friend, Pecola, was having her
father s baby. She then tells us that Pecola s father, Cholly Breedlove and the baby are dead.
Then there s the first season, a flashback, in Autumn in 1940, a year before the fall when no marigolds
were blooming. Claudia and her older sister, Frieda, have just started school. That autumn the
Macteers accepted Mr. Henry (Henry Washington) as a roomer because his rent would help pay the
bills and also because his former roommate was too addled to keep up. Then the family soon after got
another roomer, Pecola Breedlove, an eleven year old, dark skinned girl whom county officials placed
her there after her father burned the family s house down.
Pecola and the sisters then shared childhood adventures, and what Claudia remembers in particular is
the startling onset of Pecola s puberty when she unexpectedly first had her menstruation.
The second narrator then talked about the memories of Pecola s family. They described the house
where the Breedlove s lived (before Cholly burned it down), they were poor and they believed they
were ugly. They also pointed out the horrible relationship between Pecola s parents. Pecola also has a
fourteen year old brother, Sammy, who kept

The Salary Inequities For The Female Employees Essay
Mike Honda once said, Equal pay isn t just a women s issues; when women get equal pay, their family
income rise and the whole family benefits (Honda, n.d.). Although more businesses are supportive of
closing the pay gap, it is still a problem in most established companies. There are several reasons for
the pay gap, yet in many cases it is thought that the main reason is because women are less likely to
negotiate their salary. Even if this is the case, companies need to be aware of their employee s salaries
to stay within their legal obligation. This is what Joe Black, the president of Acme Manufacturing, has
discovered within his organization.
Critical Factors
The central dilemma for this case with Acme Manufacturing is the salary inequities for the female
employees. There are concerns that these inequities were the result of gender discrimination based on
the information provided by the current HR director and her belief of how the previous president felt
about female employees at the company. Although this may be hearsay, the fact that there are
inequities and rumors, it is still grounds for concern and further investigation by HR. Joe Black, the
current President of the company, is looking for the best solution to resolve these concerns. Based on
the job evaluation study performed by a compensation consultant, there is a concern that three female
supervisors and the female HR director are underpaid relative to comparable male salaried employees.

With reference to Biomaterials 1 set of notes, it states; biocompatibility is the acceptance of an
artificial implant by the body and its surrounding tissues. Biocompatible materials do not irritate the
surrounding structures and do not cause cancer (ME4307 notes). However, inserting an implant into
the human body can result in one of four possible responses: encapsulation, integration, extrusion and

of factors: The organism The time of assessment Factors connected with the individual e.g. age,

The Enron Corporation Scandal
IDENTIFY THE ACCOUNTING PRACTICES THAT WERE ASSOCIATED WITH THE
ACCOUNTING SCANDAL.
The Enron Corporation failures made world headlines for many reasons ranging from greed from its
executives, the alleged malpractice and criminal behaviours, and its quick and disastrous collapse. The
most critical factor in Enron s melt down was the use of creative and manipulative accounting
practices to distort reported profitability and indebtedness that befell the corporation (A. Holt and T.
Eccles, 2002) The accounting practices involved in this case are the revenue recognition criteria
adopted by Enron Corporation, Market to Market strategies, the use of Special Purpose Entities,
booking to cost as assets and the corporate governance practices.
Revenue Recognition Mark to market and Merchant Model Revenue is the gross inflow of economic
benefits (cash, receivables, other assets) arising from the ordinary operating activities of an entity
(such as sales of goods, sales of services, interest, royalties, and dividends). [IAS 18.7]. Revenue
recognition, as defined in the IASB Framework, means incorporating an item that meets the definition
of revenue in the income statement when it is probable that any future economic benefit associated
with the item of revenue will flow to the entity, and the amount of revenue can be measured with
reliability.
Enron used revenues as its primary financial objective, performance driver and a measure of success.

Clash Of Civilizations Analysis
In 1992, at the end of the Cold War, political scientist Francis Fukuyama argued that with Western
Liberal Democracy s victory in the battle of ideologies, there was no more history to be made. Indeed,
in such a monumental moment in human history, it may have been easy for scholars to believe that the
human experience is done developing. Samuel Huntington responded to Fukuyama in his 1993 essay
Clash of Civilizations, arguing that history is far from over. Rather, world politics is simply entering a
new phase, in which global conflict is centered on civilizational lines, rather than ideological or
political lines. When we look back on his essay, we see that his hypothesis has manifested in several
key events in world politics regarding our case studies and current events around the world.
Huntington credited the Cold War with bringing global stability. Because the world was split into
Capitalist and Communist, countries of different cultures and background united under one cause:
defeat the other side. In addition, the concept of Mutually assured destruction protected us from the
prospect of destructive, nuclear war between countries on the Capitalist side and countries on the
Communist side. However, after the Cold War ended, people needed to find new lines to identify
themselves with: cultural lines. In Clash of Civilizations, Huntington outlines 3 ways in which
civilizations will clash: core state conflicts, fault line conflicts, and The West Versus the Rest.

Fahrenheit 451 Advert Analysis

The Advertisement in F451 is blared at you in train stations to keep you from thinking. It keeps you
distracted on your down time to think. It distracts you from thinking by flooding you with so much
noise, you can t focus on what you were previously doing. Then the noise is repeating flooding noise
you being to focus more and more on the ad to the point you could memorize it. Example 1 Trumpets

This tells us that Montag can t think of anything other than well yelling shut up and thinking it as well.
This shows what the advertisement can do to people who try to think It will cause them to go crazy. It
will do its job of keeping the mind empty and focused on It the advertisement. Supporting idea 1: The
train station doesn t really stop pounding you with advertisement. The advertisement might play the
whole time your there. So even if people stay there for a long time they will never stop hearing the
advertisements. A voice drifted after him, Denham s Dentifrice Denham s the train hissed like a snake.
The train vanish and in the hole (Bradbury 76). This tells us even after leaving the train station you re
mind will fill in the no noise by repeating it still. Quietly and quickly fading until you finally recover
from being in the train station. What I try to use for a logical fallacy would be appeal to authority. It s
like a normal ad to be seen it appeals to authority because, a secretive law is to keep the people
mindless and thoughtless. Most will get untroubled if they act like this so if you did indeed act like
this you would get in trouble. It would be a smart decision to listen to the aid and avoid a tussle with
the law or government. My meme is working to help the government persuade the society. It helps the
government because it s telling the reader to keep their mind empty and buy mindless materials.

The Myers Briggs Personality Assessment Tool
The Myers Briggs Personality Assessment Tool Background The Myers Briggs Type Indicator®
(MBTI®) tool has an extensive and prestigious history, which leads to its tremendous success today as
the world s most commonly used and recognized personality tool. Katherine Cook Briggs and her
daughter, Isabel Briggs Myers, developed the MBTI tool in the 1940 s. The inspiration to start
researching personality type theory began when Katherine first met the future husband of Isabel,
Clarence Myers. Further inspiration came from Carl G. Jung, a renowned Swiss psychiatrist, whose
theory of psychological types proposed that people are inherently different in terms of who they
perceive the world and take in information as a basis for their decisions. ... Show more content on

MBTI® scores indicate how specific preferences are reported in the questionnaire. The test does not
measure skills or ability but is used as instrument to help understand a person better. Characteristics of
the MBTI® include: Managing staff: What are an individual s likely strengths? For which role is this
person best suited? Guiding careers: What kinds of jobs or positions will an individual find most
fulfilling? Improving interpersonal relationship: How can a person best relate to and communicate
with other personality types for maximum understanding? Developing education and training: What
kind of teaching methods should be used to ensure all personality types profit from the presented
information? Coaching and advising people: What can be done to help individuals understand
themselves better and identify their strengths and weaknesses? Businesses often use this test to
identify differences between individuals. These differences in turn, are the source of
misunderstanding, which then leads to miscommunication. There is no doubt that MBTI® is
successful as a product, however, Dr. Dean Burnett of the Institute of Psychological Medicine and
Clinical Neuroscience at Cardiff University is critical of the test. He says the test relies on poor
scientific foundations and suspects the test is a self fulfilling phenomenon the more people take it, the

Moltenberg Sex
These readings challenged many of the beliefs I had regarding sex and sexuality. It is only now that,
after reading the pieces by Seidman, Stoltenberg, and Fausto Sterling, I can see my previous
assumptions were based on my experiences living in a society that reinforces binaries and conditions
individuals to feel obligated to choose between two opposite and mutually exclusive categories that
don t actually exist. Seidman s decoupling of sex and reproduction, Stoltenberg s acknowledgement of
sexuality as a continuum, and Fausto Sterling s exploration of the experiences of intersex individuals
shed light on the intricacies of sex and sexuality that norms usually try to subvert. Heterosexuality is
often given a privileged position in society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Humans must recognize that sex is a continuum, and that We are... a multisexed species (Stoltenberg
25). To limit sex to man and woman is to oversimplify the vast combinations that genuine, consenting
individuals are making. The identification as male is a conscious step into an inner circle, a circle that
separates itself through interests and values identified as male and through a rejection or non
identification with that which is perceived to be non male, or female (Stoltenberg 29). By accepting a
spectrum sexuality opens one up to un gender their sexuality so as to not be suppressed by the
limitations imposed by a sexual identity. Anne Fausto Sterling further separates sex from sexual
identity by discussing the experiences of intersex individuals. Despite what society expects of those
who don t neatly fit into the binary, intersex individuals generally manage to live happy lives. After
this reading, it seems ridiculous that society has been allowed to determine what a person s genitalia
should be. As America begins to become more accepting of homosexuality, hopefully those who
genitalia is a mixture of both male and female sex organs will also find themselves being more

Persuasive Speech On Citric Acid
Every time citric acid loses a carbon molecule, it releases a form of energy named NAD+ and its
partner in crime, FAD. Remember NAD+? But wait Naida! How can you use NAD+ in glycolysis if
you create it the step after? Well random person that I don t know, these steps aren t necessarily one
after another. They happen all at the same time in different areas of the cell, but they are usually
explained in this order because it s easier. Back to the topic: the citric acid created is now being
oxidized through a complicated chain of events with carbon molecules being added and being taken
away, like becoming an isocitrate, then being a ketglutarate, and a bunch of other steps until it
becomes a oxalaocetic acid all over again giving off a bunch carbon ... Show more content on

wait no. Nick said I have to write this out. Gosh... Bossy much. Anyways let s start with water. Water
is then absorbed by the roots, up the stems of the plant, and brings it through tissues called xylem

to keep the oxygen levels low outside the leaves. Sunlight gets absorbed by chlorophyll. Now the
complicated stuff. Photons are light energy blobs that have traveled 93 million miles just to feed you

The Rhetorical Analysis Of Martin Luther King
Today, in this corner of the Internet dedicated to the Oratory and the techniques of public speaking, I
can not fail to remember that fifty years ago, one of the most famous speeches of the 20th century was
celebrated yesterday: the one he delivered fifty years ago yesterday, Marin Luther King, in
Washington, at the foot of the Lincon Memorial, before more than two hundred thousand black rights
defenders in the USA, and remembered by the famous phrase I have a dream dream). Martin Luther
King uses key elements of paraverbal communication for the execution of a good speech: a powerful
voice, a perfect vocalization and articulation, for Which is well understood everything he says, and a
calm, steady, determined rhythm, marking well the pauses to emphasize the important phrases. He
also uses in his speech a few rhetorical devices, such as the metaphor: ... they had burned in the flames
of withered injustice ; Long night of captivity ; The Negro Lives on a Lonely Island of Poverty, The
Quick Sands of Racial Injustice, and others such as the promissory note of liberty and happiness for
all promised by the founders of the nation and the Which the nation gave to the nation at that time, a
rhetorical device that takes one of the greatest applause of the speech; Let us not wallow in the valley
of despair, and other metaphors that dot the whole discourse giving it a rhetorical literary touch.
Another rhetorical figure is the anaphora: One hundred years later ... , which repeats as the beginning
of several sentences; Now is the time ... , We can not be satisfied until ... , and the famous I have a
dream , which repeats, from the minute 12 20 , Also as an introduction of several substantial ideas of
the discourse. In this phase it is in which he is more excited, which is detected not only by the special
tone and force that gives his words, but by the slight movements of tension in the Corners of his lips,
indicating that he was really excited inside to express those ideas that were born from the deepest and
that mean the peak of the speech and that are the ones that have passed more to the story. In addition,
it is the phrases that do not read, but it says by heart, while still looking at the crowd

  • 2. The Trade Routes And The Spread Of Islam The Malian Trade Routes and the Impact on West Africa Through the Spread of Islam Along These Routes The trade routes of Mali are not as well known as others like the Silk Road, but they were influential in the trade of North Africa and forever influenced history. These trade routes conveyed gold, salt, and, to a lesser extent, copper to empires in the Middle East and Mediterranean. However, the most influential effect of these trade routes was the spread of Islam throughout West and Central Africa. The empire of Mali rose in the early 13th century and soon expanded. The empire controlled all of the main trade routes throughout West Africa, which are collectively referred to as the Malian trade routes. These trade routes were vital to most of the world. Berber traders from northern Africa came along these routes to get gold and salt, vital for the flavoring and more importantly the preservation of food, to trade to the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean empires. In addition, traders from northwestern Africa brought salt along these routes to major trading cities in Mali, to trade to the Berber traders and merchants from Central Africa. Mali had so much gold and the trade of gold was so important to the rest of the world that maps of the ancient world depicted Mali with a gold nugget or with a man wearing a gold crown sitting on a gold throne and holding a gold spear in one hand and a gold coin the size of his head in his other hand. The salt trade was also very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Gladiator Of The Roman Empire Scott Galati Mr. Berger World history 1010 11/30/14 Roman Gladiators The Romans liked watching other people die; their gladiator games were there live entertainment. It is believed that the first gladiators were slaves who were made to fight to the death at the funeral of a famous aristocrat, Junius Brutus Pera, in 264 BC. The fight between the two was arranged in his honor. Gradually the gladiator games became separated from funeral ceremonies and were staged by the wealthy as a means of displaying their power and influence among the people in the local community. The wealthy and elite classes could promote themselves by sponsoring the games, and paying to put the show on. The term Gladiator comes from the term gladius after the Roman sword. The gladiators were mostly prosecuted criminals, imprisoned soldiers and slaves. These people would be forced to fight other prisoners, sometimes until their death in the case that it was decided for him to die, usually by the spectators. Rarely gladiators would be free, men would sometimes volunteer to be a gladiator and take on the status of a slave to reap the benefits of fame that came along with the title, the fans and money .But the most likely reason why people volunteered was the down payment that a volunteer received upon taking the gladiator oath. When this oath was taken it meant that the owner the now gladiator had total control over the gladiator s life, making him lowered the status of a slave. Gladiators were known for ... • 6. Ohio s Ice Age Although difficult to imagine, Ohio has at vari ous times in the recent geologic past (within the last 1.6 million years) had three quarters of its surface covered by vast sheets of ice perhaps as much as 1 mile thick. This period of geologic history is referred to as the Pleistocene Epoch or, more commonly, the Ice Age, although there is abundant evidence that Earth has experienced numerous other ice ages throughout its 4.6 billion years of existence. Ice Age glaciers invading Ohio formed in cen tral Canada in response to climatic conditions that allowed massive buildups of ice. Because of their great thickness, these ice masses flowed under their own weight and ultimately moved south as far as northern Kentucky. Oxygen isotope analysis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lake deposits are primarily fine grained clay and silt size sediments. The most extensive area of lake deposits is in north ern Ohio bordering Lake Erie. These deposits, and adjacent areas of wave planed ground moraine, are the result of sedimentation and erosion by large lakes that occupied the Erie basin as Wisconsinan age ice retreated into Canada. Other lake deposits accumulated in stream valleys whose outlets were temporarily dammed by ice or outwash. Many outwash dammed lake deposits are present in southeastern Ohio far beyond the glacial boundary. Peat deposits are associated with many lake deposits and formed through the accu mulation of partially decayed aquatic vegetation in oxygen depleted, stagnant water. The term glacial drift commonly is used to re fer to any material deposited directly (e.g., ground moraine) or indirectly (e.g., outwash) by a glacier. Because the ice that invaded Ohio came from Canada, it carried in many rock types not found in Ohio. Pebbles, cobbles, and boulders of these foreign rock types are called erratics. Rock collect ing in areas of glacial drift may yield granite, gneiss, trace quantities of gold, and very rarely, diamonds. Most rocks found in glacial deposits, however, are types native to ... • 7. Machiavelli Archetypes The Ideal Machiavellian Leader The media portrays a vast number of archetypes through the animation of characters. Specifically, the archetype of a good leader is continually placed on display and desired by the masses to be successful. The concept of a good leader is dated, and has been introduced in the past several times by the famous writer, Niccolo Machiavelli. It is an archetype that is a constant variable that is not bound by generation. Film adopts these same principles of the highly coveted leader and brings them to life visually. Characters that are successful at gaining followers and building positive relationships exemplify the traits of good leaders, whereas characters that cannot solidify a following exemplify bad leaders. Niccolo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A good leader must have a strong personality. This person s personality must be able to induce people into following him/her. Machiavelli defines this superior, advantageous personality as half beast, half man (Machiavelli, N). Additionally, Machiavelli states it is important for a leader to know how to make use of both natures and that one without the other is not durable (Machiavelli, N) Machiavelli manufactures the connection of a good leader needing to understand how to effectively deal with different types of people. A good leader s personality must be adaptable, to travel between man and beast. The man persona may be more suitable for a compassionate person, while the beast persona may work best with an aggressive person. This interpretation is depicted in Prison Break through the protagonist Michael Scofield, in his relationships with the other inmates. For instance, in season 1 Michael purposely gets arrested and placed into prison. • 8. The Importance Of My Experience At A College Band Camp Have you ever spent a week at a college band camp? Unfortunately, it does not resemble the iconic scene from the classic film, American Pie. This narrative depicts why I decided to attend Southwestern rather than other colleges such as Oklahoma State University, University of Oklahoma, and Wichita State University. My fellow band friends and I took a three hour journey to Weatherford from Blackwell to attend the Southwestern Band Camp for four days. As soon as we reached our destination, I realized that this was where I wanted to be. When I stepped out of the cramped car, a cool breeze blew across my face. On this ninety four degree mid summer day, band kids were walking aimlessly trying to find the correct building to go to. As for myself, I knew exactly where to go. Check in was at 1PM in the Oklahoma Hall and luckily for us, I had scoped out the campus on Google maps to try and figure everything out. I knew once we exited the car that we needed to cross the street and head towards the building that looked like an x . Once we had checked in and placed our suitcases placed in the assigned dorms, we got our instruments out and headed towards the Fine Arts building. Auditions were separated by the type of instrument you played. Unfortunately, I had to separate from my friends since I played the bass clarinet and they played the saxophone. I had lost my way several times. Students were pacing the hallways and loud jabber between fellow instrumentalists about the etude could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bully Bullying From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia For the Wikipedia guidance essay, see Wikipedia:WikiBullying Bullying is detrimental to students well being and development.[1] Bullying is the use of force or coercion to abuse or intimidate others. The behavior can be habitual and involve an imbalance of social or physical power. It can include verbal harassment or threat, physical assault or coercion and may be directed repeatedly towards particular victims, perhaps on grounds of race, religion, gender, sexuality, or ability.[2][3] If bullying is done by a group, it is called mobbing. • 10. Racial Inequality In To Kill A Mockingbird Essay In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee shows a lot of racial or social issues, especially against the African Americans, such as racial inequality and poor treatment of the poor or homeless; both of these are still at least partially seen today. Harper Lee uses the unfair trial of Tom Robinson and his cruel death to show racial inequality, especially towards the African Americans. Towards the end of the trial, Lee describes how the jury acts when they come back in as: A jury never looks at a defendant it has convicted, and when this jury came in, not one of them looked at Tom Robinson... (Lee 282). Then, Judge Taylor announces the verdict: Guilty... guilty... guilty... guilty... (Lee 282). Later on, Atticus comes home after finding out about Tom Robinson s death: Tom s dead.... They got him just as he went over the fence.... Seventeen bullet holes in him (Lee 315). Based on this evidence, it is clear that racial inequality was evident in the 1930 s because with prior knowledge from the novel, we know that Tom didn t stand much of a chance against the jury because of his being African American. Also, if a white man had done what Tom did, he probably would have been given a fairer trial than Tom was. Even though, the police obviously wanted him dead as he tried to escape prison, there was no reason to shoot him seventeen times. Racial inequality can still been seen in the country, and around the world, but doesn t seem to be as bad as it had been; some statistics show it improved soon after, but some facts show it took longer. One statistic showing that racial inequality has gotten better states, In 1980, over 50% of the Blacks aged 25 or more had completed high school, and, by 2012, 85% (Coleman 183).One fact stating that racial inequality took a while before improving states, Even after the slaves were freed, the African Americans continued to face legal discrimination and segregation until the victories of the civil rights movement in the 1960 s ( Preface to What... 1). This evidence shows that racial inequality didn t really improve at first. After the civil rights movement, things improved for the African Americans. From the statistic, the reader knows that between 1980 and 2012, a little over 1% more of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Indian Ocean Region Analysis The commercial life in the Indian Ocean region during 650 C.E to 1750 C.E was altered, mainly so after the fall of the Mongol Empire in the 14th century. The fall ultimately led to a number of changes, such as The Columbian Exchange which affected what they traded, and competition for control between Portuguese and Arabs over who would control the trade region. Although changes occurred, the trade routes stayed the same during the region. The fall of the Mongol Empire attracted trade the Indian Ocean region as well as who they traded with. They gained new goods from the Americas, such as silver and the potato, which created popular demand for them in the Indian Ocean region. This changed what was traded in the region. One thing that doesn t matter in culture is what race you are, or what color your skin is. Culture bring us together as a race and diversifies us as individuals. Sports culture is very different. The longest game lasted 8 hours and 25 minutes and went 33 innings in 1984. The score was only 4 3 (MLB.com). Baseball can be boring at some times, there will always be lulls in between pitches and innings. Baseball also have expensive tickets. The MLB average is $31 per ticket. An average family of four would have to pay more than $120 just to watch the game. The Boston Red Sox average price is more than $50 (Statista.com). Many people cannot afford to go to a game. Another thing that makes it less interesting is that the scores are low. Many MLB games I have watched usually don t having scores that exceed 5 runs. When a team scores more runs and gets more hits, the game is more exciting and intense. When teams are only getting four or five hits the entire game and scoring 2 runs, it can slow the game down and make it more boring. As Sam Miller said in his article, What are they even trying to do in baseball, you know? What s the metaphor? In football, it s like war, tackle each other before they get to the end zone. Baseball, on the other hand, is more like cops and robbers, you have to strategize and do things that aren t conventional in other sports. Baseball is a slow moving game and has ... • 13. Inside Out Developmental Theory The development of the human social behavior is dictated by a variety of factors. Essentially, these factors act as the catalysts for the subsequent changes that are evident in the behavioral profile of a given individual as he or she grows (Cavanaugh Blanchard Fields, 2015). Ideally, these theories focus on the quantitative differences that are evident in the behavioral changes in a child s development (Newman Newman, 2015). The life personality of Riley changed as she grew in different stages. For instance, she developed her ice hockey skills from an amateur skill stage to a more professional stage in her senior school stages. The Lord sits ever so quietly while the Apostles rise in reaction to what the Lord had just announced. It is rather obvious that Leonardo chose the critical moment after the Lord had stated, Verily I say unto you that one of you shall betray me, because of the emotions that evolve in this specific scene (Matt. 26.21). He took much time to express every detail of each Apostle and the Lord. Leonardo had even wrote in one of his notebooks that A good painter has two chief objects to paint man and the intention of his soul. The former is easy, the latter hard because he has to represent it by the attitude and movement of the limbs (Heydenreich, 27). For example, the Lord is very relaxed with his arms resting on the table which adds to the portrayal of His greatness. [COH95] First, because of the inherent openness of the Internet and the original design of the protocols, Internet attacks in general are quick, easy, inexpensive, and may be hard to detect or trace. The Salary Inequities For The Female Employees Essay Mike Honda once said, Equal pay isn t just a women s issues; when women get equal pay, their family income rise and the whole family benefits (Honda, n.d.). Although more businesses are supportive of closing the pay gap, it is still a problem in most established companies. There are several reasons for the pay gap, yet in many cases it is thought that the main reason is because women are less likely to negotiate their salary. Even if this is the case, companies need to be aware of their employee s salaries to stay within their legal obligation. This is what Joe Black, the president of Acme Manufacturing, has discovered within his organization. Critical Factors The central dilemma for this case with Acme Manufacturing is the salary inequities for the female employees. There are concerns that these inequities were the result of gender discrimination based on the information provided by the current HR director and her belief of how the previous president felt about female employees at the company. Although this may be hearsay, the fact that there are inequities and rumors, it is still grounds for concern and further investigation by HR. Clash Of Civilizations Analysis In 1992, at the end of the Cold War, political scientist Francis Fukuyama argued that with Western Liberal Democracy s victory in the battle of ideologies, there was no more history to be made. Indeed, in such a monumental moment in human history, it may have been easy for scholars to believe that the human experience is done developing. Samuel Huntington responded to Fukuyama in his 1993 essay Clash of Civilizations, arguing that history is far from over. Rather, world politics is simply entering a new phase, in which global conflict is centered on civilizational lines, rather than ideological or political lines. When we look back on his essay, we see that his hypothesis has manifested in several key events in world politics regarding our case studies and current events around the world. Huntington credited the Cold War with bringing global stability. Because the world was split into Capitalist and Communist, countries of different cultures and background united under one cause: defeat the other side. In addition, the concept of Mutually assured destruction protected us from the prospect of destructive, nuclear war between countries on the Capitalist side and countries on the Communist side.
