Tacitus On The Germans Summary
Tacitus in his writing characterizes the Germanics as a stable, civilized community as well as a
barbaric tribe, compared to Marcellinus who viewed them as savages when Priscus had a first hand
account of the Germanics and thought of them as very well mannered people. Tacitus writes about
how the Germanics are civilized, yet barbaric by stating that no other nation compares to the
Germanics in entertainment and hospitality as well as writing how their children are naked and filthy
(Tacitus). Tacitus, being alive in the reign of the five good emperors writes truths about the
Germanics, but he is not in the time period when the Germanics are wreaking havoc on the empire.
Tacitus also writes this document as a client of the emperor Trajan and sees to it that he build ... Show

On the other hand Marcellinus sees the Germanics as barbaric and abnormally savage while also
writing how they are inflicting tremendous slaughter (Marcellinus). Marcellinus was writing in the
fourth century when the Germanics were attacking, so he did not base his writings off pure facts.
Instead he used stereotyping and appealed to the people s point of view of how the Germanics looked
and acted. Marcellinus writes about the Germanics as barbarians and describes them as crazed foolish
men. By doing so he forces fear upon the empire. Priscus writes about the hospitality of the
Germanics, and how they gave him a luxurious meal not only does he say their hospitality his superb
but he talks about their clothing and how it is only to be clean (Priscus). Priscus was an ambassador of
the Roman Empire and Attila treats him with respect in order to have favorable recognition by the
Emperor. In order to do so he conveys an exceedingly ceremonial dinner for the ambassador, and
treats him with the maximum level of

Interracial Marriage Controversy
Marriage has been a topic of controversy for a long time. While the United States has finally accepted
gay marriage, interracial and interfaith marriage are still looked at as dirty and wrong. Marriage
should not be based off the color of someone s skin or what religion they follow, especially if family is
the main dictator, because their opinions are so valued by their children and children want to make
their family happy, but with patience, the family can learn to accept anyone their child brings home.
The union of an interfaith couple does not mean that one will have to convert to the other s religion
and interfaith along with interracial marriages can help create diversity, even equality, among people.
Family can be the biggest critic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Relationships are defined by the people in them and being in an interfaith marriage can mean multiple
cultures or changing to just one, and with that being said, having these mixed marriages can bring
more diversity and equality to America. Interracial and interfaith marriage demands people to be more
open to the concept. With these mixed relationships, more knowledge can be spread, creating a higher
chance for equality among America. Mixed relationships have been increasingly accepted among
younger generations which, with more knowledge of these relationships, can help create
understanding of more cultures and races. America is known as the melting pot because it is filled
with various different races, religions, and cultures. It is time Americans accept the diversity, learn that
love comes from anywhere, and interracial or interfaith marriage is no longer a

My ultimate vision is to see a Liberia where football once more becomes a national pride. It is sad to
see that power of football has been underestimated. The last time Liberia participated in a major
continental tournament was in 2002, when Liberia participated in the World Cup qualifiers and
African Cup of Nations. Just like other African countries, it is evident that Liberia has natural talents
in football but the lack of proper management and sport programs have caused the beautiful game to
lost interest in Liberia.
Liberia is the only country on the African continent that produced a FIFA World Player of the Year, in
person of Ambassador George Weah of AC Millan in 1995. Since the retirement of the George Weah
and his team, which consisted of current national team captain, James Debbah, Kelvin Sebwe, Joe
Nagbe, Oliver Markor, Prince Daye, Musa Shannon, Zizi Roberts, amongst others, the lineup for the
national team changed significantly. Talented Liberians are trying all over the world in low profile
football leagues because of the lack of contact and adequate direction. Additionally, our local league is

game development and graphic design, fashion and filmmaking, performing arts and publishing,
architecture and advertising, media and music, comedy and craft. Those activities are commercially
driven and community based, experimental and export intense.

Essay about Sam Phillips, the Father of Rock and Roll
Rock and Roll has come a long way since 1952 when music business icon Sam Phillips created it.
Sam Phillips is considered the father of Rock and Roll. He went against the social normality of
segregated music, and produced music that he felt should be made. Even when faced with career
ending criticism, Phillips continued on making history. Not only is Sam Phillips responsible for the
being the origin of the seemingly everlasting Rock and Roll movement, he segregated music amidst
all kinds of cultural disruption with civil rights. Sam Phillips is considered a musical revolutionary
who, despite adversity, changed the world forever.
Samuel Cornelius Phillips was born in 1923 in Florence, Alabama to a family of tenant farmers (Sam

Elvis Presley was signed to Sun Records in 1954. This was monumental for Phillips s stand on racial
boundaries in music. Elvis drew national attention to Sun Records which, in part, sparked slight
popularity for other Sun artists such as Howlin Wolf, B.B. King, and Roscoe Gordon (Sun Records 1).
This point in time is known as the origin of Rock and Roll. Contrary to what Rock and Roll is now, it
was only popular within a certain demographic of people for a long time Furthermore, Sun Records
and Sam Phillips went under fire by local radio stations and parents everywhere. Phillips s creation,
Rock and Roll, caused an outrage. It was seen as provocative towards young people, which was its
most popular demographic. Music from artists such as Elvis, King, and Gordon were banned from
radio stations and televisions (Impact of Rock Roll on USA 5). Criticism from other well known
music moguls didn t stop Sam. Nevertheless, Phillips kept on putting out influential, black music.
Despite the hardening Civil Rights movement in the 1950 s, songs by African American artists slowly
became extremely popular. In 1958, the first black artist reached the top of the billboard hot 100. This
marked the climax of Phillip s goal to make popular music from an unpopular race. Sam Phillips s
persistence on creating popular black records and the equality protests go hand in hand. The exposure
of the protests and music gave new

Human Genetic Engineering And Eugenics
Human genetic engineering and eugenics have been a largely controversial topic over the past
decades. Eugenics can be popularly defined as the science of improving and enhancing a human
population or person through manipulating the human genes, selective breeding, and sterilization. The
end goal and desired result of eugenics is to basically create a human race or people with more
desirable biological, physical, or psychological traits. Eugenics and genetic modification is a current,
pressing subject; in April 2015, a group of Chinese researchers, used a new gene editing technology,
called CRISPR to [tinker] with the genomes of human embryos (Adams). Presently, according to CQ
Researcher, New genetic technologies allow scientists to delete a mutant gene and insert a healthy
one, which...has the potential to eliminate inherited diseases, such as cystic fibrosis. However, these
techniques have only been used on embryos belonging to laboratory animals. The big question here is
whether or not science and technology are crossing an ethical boundary by using these techniques and
performing genetic modification on human embryos. Do humans have the right to play God and alter
nature?
Following the background and history of genetic engineering and eugenics, it can definitely be seen
why ethicists and scientists are concerned. The concept and idea of passing on heritable traits was
introduced by English naturalist Charles Darwin in his work The Origins of Species in 1859. Soon to

Summary Of The Death Of Honesty By William Damon
Introduction
The article under analysis is entitled The Death of Honesty and is written by William Damon in 2012.
In general, in his article, he describes the problem of deception in today s world and compares it with
the past. He also uses many expressive means and rhetorical devices in order to support his idea. His
main idea is that the biggest problem today is not that people are frequently lying because, as he says,
it is in human nature to lie, and it is not always bad, but that truthfulness is becoming less important as
it was before (Damon). Therefore, he fears that if his idea is true, the bonds of trust that are vital for
creating a free democratic society are in danger, which will inevitably lead to the situation where
building good relationships between people is impossible, and the civilized society will collapse.
Summary of the Article
At the beginning of the article, Damon describes the notion of deception and truth. He claims that
deception is not always bad, but, moreover, it can be better than truth in certain cases and provides
examples of such cases. Then he claims that telling lies is in human nature and that people have
always been lying throughout their entire history. However, he expresses his concern toward the
current tendency of making truth insignificant (Damon). In this respect, he says that despite people
have always lied, the being honest was considered honorable, and this virtue had a high value among
people. Now, in his opinion, this honor has disappeared.
In the body of the article, the author depicts his fears that if being honest is no longer valued, the
future society will collapse and give way to chaos and anarchy. Then he states that this tendency is
observed even in those places where truth must be the priority, for example, educational institutions.
Here he provides many examples of scandals that occurred in different schools regarding the students
who were cheating and teachers who abetted them in doing it. Understandably, most students want to
cheat, especially those who despise studying and learning. However, the motivation of teachers can be
different and unusual. For example, some teachers do not punish students for teaching because they
think that by helping each

Descriptive Essay Roommate
I went back into my dorm room. I sat my things down on the kitchen table and turned to the fridge,
opening to get a drink of water as I was literally dying of thirst.
Are you my roommate? I jumped and quickly turned around. My roommate s appearance that I just
met now, has a light brown bob cut, rounded glasses with grey eyes, wearing a casual navy blue dress
with a red leather belt. She stood near the table with her boxes and bags and I gave her a calm look,
with a gentle smile.
Oh yes, my name s Elaine. Nice to meet you, and you are?
I m Kira. Sorry I came here a bit late, traffic. She gave a little laugh and I accepted it. We began to sit
down on the kitchen table and got to know each other as we kept talking, it seemed to be that she is
also new, in my classes, and we could somehow relate with each other on our likes, dislikes, choices,
and other little things. Kira is one of those people who is an introvert at first, but when you get to talk
to her more, she seems to be more easygoing and very kind and friendly.
Hmm, what to do, what to do. I say as I roam around in my small room after saying our goodnights to
each other after our time talking. I decided to lay on the queen sized bed, with my choice of own
sheets that are pink polka dots with a grey background. My walls are a beige colour as everything else
were to be only filled with other colours, mixed with plain such as brown and black.

Learning Styles and Student Nurses
Learning can be defined as the process of acquiring knowledge or skills through experience,
independent or collaborative study, and teachings under guided instruction (Fisher Frey, 2008). One of
the most efficient processes of learning that promotes progressive knowledge and skill development is
a process that focusses on learning styles (Weaver, 2010). √ The key term learning style can be
described as the preferential mode a learner adopts when gain knowledge or skills (Honey, 2006).
There are a number of different versions of models and frameworks that can be used to help a student
nurse to identify their own personal learning needs (Sherwin Stevenson, 2011).√ These include Kolb s
(1984) Experiential Learning Cycle, Gibbs Reflective Cycle (Gibbs, 1988), and Johns and Carper s
model of structured reflection (Johns, 2009). √By using these tools a student nurse can identify their
learning needs and may consider it beneficial for the student to undertake further methods of analysis
such as Honey s (2006) The Learning Styles Questionnaire which is based on Honey and Mumford s
Learning Inventory (Honey, 1982). The Honey and Mumford inventory is a compilation of
descriptions used to categorise learners based upon behaviours and attitudes. These categories include
activist; reflector; theorist; and pragmatist (Honey, 2006). √ An understanding of learning

Characterization Of Fagin In Oliver Twist By Charles Dickens
BAB I
INTRODUCTION
1. Victorian period
Victoria s long reign saw a growth in literature, especially in fiction, practiced notably by Dickens,
Thackeray, the Brontës, George Eliot, Trollope, James, and Hardy. Victorian is a term that is often
extended beyond the queen s reign (1837 1901) to include William IV s reign from 1830. Historian
distinguishes early, middle, and late Victorian England, corresponding to periods of growing pains, of
confidence in the 1850s, and of loss of consensus after 1880, a date which offers a convenient
division: Charles Dickens (1812 70), and Oscar Wilde (1854 1900) belonged to different ages.

The main character in Oliver Twist Novel is Oliver Twist. He is the protagonist character of this novel.
He is also someone who has good looking, good attitude, generous, forgiving, high spirit, and never

shriveled Jew with a villainous looking and repulsive face. Victorians stereotyped the Jews as
avaricious gold worshippers, and in accordance with that stereotype, Fagin s eyes glisten as he takes
out a magnificent gold watch, sparkling with jewels.
I like this novel because it tells a child s struggle against poverty, injustice, and social class. In Oliver

becomes a troublemaker by asking for another food. I can see this by looking and reading the sentence

Zen Meditation And Meditation
This is an assessment of Zen meditation which focuses on its capability to help relieve stress and
possibly anxiety. The history of Zen meditation is a long and ancient one with its origins dating back
to the 6th century in China. The word Zen is actually the Japanese form of the Sanskrit word dhyana,
which when translated into English means meditation . Zen meditation is an integral part of Zen
Buddhism. Practicing Zen Buddhists are required to meditate at least once every day. Although Zen
meditation is a cherished component of Zen Buddhism, Buddhists and Non Buddhists alike are
permitted to take part in Zen meditation. Zen has its origins in Chan or Chinese Buddhism, which
itself has its origins in Mahayana Buddhism, and was eventually exported to Japan, there it gained a
unique Japanese culture and gradually became endogenous to Japan, this creating Zen Buddhism. It
wasn t until the 12th century that Zen Buddhism was recognised to be different from Chan. The person
responsible for creating Chan (Ch an) and therefore Zen Buddhism is the Indian Scholar/Monk
Bodhidharma. The ultimate teachings of Bodhidharma are that one does not need to study sacred texts,
worship deities, or do elaborate religious rituals to achieve enlightenment. Instead a person needs to

Why Do You Break The Prison Rules You Go To Prison
As Alcatraz s billboard says, You break the rules, you go to prison. You break the prison rules, you go

the best escape plans known to Alcatraz history. The brothers made a raft out of life jackets when they
tried to escape the prison. The cells were quite small and fairly plain. B and C block cells were forty
five square feet and each cell had a sink, a cot, and a toilet, there were 336 cells in the B and C block

Nuclear Weapons And Nuclear Proliferation
Committee 9
Nuclear Proliferation
Vanuatu
(A) Brief Background of the Topic
1.) What is the historical background of this topic?
Nuclear Proliferation is defined as the rapid spread or increase of nuclear weapons. Nuclear
Proliferation has been a conflict worldwide for years. It all started during the Cold War, when the
Soviet Union and the United States competed to obtain more nuclear weapons. As the Cold War
continued, France, Britain, and China all began to develop their own nuclear technology. On July 1,
1968, the Treaty on the Non Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons was signed and entered into force in
1970. Under this treaty, a total of 190 parties have agreed to help prevent the spread of nuclear
weapons. A few years later, the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks non proliferation act (SALT 1) was
signed on May 26, 1972 and entered into force on October 3, 1972. After several years of struggle, the
Cold War ended in December 1991.
2.) What nations are directly involved in this issue?
The top contributors of nuclear proliferation include countries like the United States and Russia
(formerly Soviet Union). These two countries were the first to obtain and test nuclear weapons. They
are responsible for more than 93% of all operational nuclear warheads. United Kingdom, France,
China, India, Pakistan, Israel, and North Korea all created nuclear arsenals to attain these weapons of
mass destruction. The United States currently possesses approximately 7,650 warheads, Russia has

The Pros and Cons of Gun Control in the United States Essay
Gun control is a growing issue as of late, due to recent events such as school shootings as well as
crimes which are committed daily due to gun violence the issue has been more controversial than ever
before. IT is true that by owing a gun you can feel a sense of self empowerment as it can allow you to
protect yourself as well as your loved ones. However, owing a gun is a double edge sword in today s
world. The reason is that with the sudden increase in gun violence more people have beganbegun to
become anti gun. The government does help by passing laws which will not allow certain people to
own or buy guns. The problem with that type of situation is that those people can still own guns by
going through a third party in order to receive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The biggest pro when it comes to owning a gun is the sense of security and protection it allows you to
obtain being a homeowner or family member. It allows you to understand that if you are being
burglarized or if somebody does try to break into your home a gun provides you a way to protect
yourself as well as your family. It is a fact that 74% of burglars stay away from homes are occupied by
those who own guns due to the fear of what could happen. The best part about owning a gun is you
can keep burglars or vandals at bay without even having to fire your gun;, just the sight of a gun will
keep people from trying to break into your homes.
Now for the con side of this debate, first I would have to say that having a gun is extremely risky.
There is danger associated with owning a gun. You can be foolish and leave your gun where children
may have access to it which can lead to more pressing issues. This is why when small children are in
the house keep your guns hidden and do not allow them to know where these guns are. Also I wo9uld
like to say that video games which incorporate gun violence can put ideas in a child s head that guns
are fun. This is far from the truth as guns are not fun and should not be viewed as a fun hobby to get
into, especially by younger children.
Another con to consider when owning a gun is the risk of harming friend, neighbor, or even a family
member by accident. Looking into gun control I have found information which shows

Interview With A Graphic Designer
I have chosen these questions to ask my Interviewee Neville Brody who is a very famous Graphic
Designer who is well respected in his field and internationally known because I feel it is very
important to understand the thought process that goes into designing some of the worlds best pieces of
work ever created. I would like first hand knowledge coming from Brody himself and not any online
articles or journals that I might have read up on. The thought process of design thinking is a very
independent thing, you can only learn by repeatedly attempting day after day of new methods of
research and how you apply them to your idea. I feel that a lot of people such as fresh students who
seek guidance, also young graduates and even sometimes professional graphic designers who have
been seen as an expert in their field lack the knowledge of understanding a great design thinking
strategy or need aide in this domain. Design thinking is all about the design specific skills that a
designer applies during the process of designing, not specifically needing to be a graphic designer as
this thought process can be applied to a lot of people in the creative industries such as interior and
exterior designers, game designers and even architects. Design thinking has now come to be

Nuclear Weapons During The Cold War Era Essay
The development and use of nuclear weapons in 1945 changed not only warfare, but how countries
approach warfare as a whole. As Andrew Heywood notes in his book, Global Politics, says that there s
a tendency for any weapons to proliferate or spread. With that knowledge it should be assumed that
many nations would want to obtain nuclear weapons after seeing what the power that they hold. A
state being in possession of a nuclear weapon can deter potential enemies and make them a power on
the global scale. The Cold War era and post Cold War era both saw an in increase in the spread of
nuclear weapons. During the Cold War, after the US first used a nuclear weapon in 1945, states that
gained nuclear capabilities were the France, the UK, China and the Soviet Union. Post Cold War era
India, Pakistan, Israel and North Korea all gained nuclear weapons and shows the problem with
proliferation of them. India and Pakistan are neighboring states and rivals which can lead to the
possibility that they could be used at any moment. North Korea is a dangerous militaristic state that
constantly threatens other states. This illustrates that the spread of nuclear weapons is a global
problem because nuclear proliferation can possibly put WMDS, weapons of mass destruction, in the
hands of rival states or extremely dangerous nations. There s also the possibility of them falling into
the hands of non state actors such as terrorists groups. Nuclear proliferation and nuclear
disarmament/arms

Where L.L. Bean stands out is there in country manufacturing and Discovery School classes. Not only
are they selling outdoor gear they are offering outdoor classes as well. The way I look at it is, they
offer a product and a way to test it out at the same time so you know whether you are buying a good
quality product. But this however may still not be enough to succeed. Below I have included a list of
L.L. Bean s competitors. Columbia Columbia Sportswear may not be one of L.L. Beans strongest
competitors as they do not offer equipment but they do have a strong presence in apparel and offer a
good quality product. Based on the west coast in Washington County Oregon. Similar to L.L. Bean
Columbia is family owned but traded on public stock exchange. Columbia Sportswear takes pride in

Honesty In 12 Angry Men
In tough times, it is easy to forget what is right and wrong. The movie Twelve Angry Men is a very
clear demonstration on right and wrong. The film is about twelve jurors who are deciding the fate of a
young man accused of killing his father. These twelve men all vote for guilty, except for the eighth
juror, who votes innocent. It seems very clear that the suspect is guilty, and the eighth juror goes
against everyone to give the young man a fair chance. Although all other jurors try to pressure him
into voting guilty, he sticks to his gut and eventually proves the suspect innocent. In the 1957 film 12
Angry Men, the eighth juror, Mr. Davis, sticks to his core values of honesty, fair judgement, and hard
work to prove the young man accused of killing his father to be innocent.
Honesty is a very important trait to have. The eighth juror from 12 Angry Men believes that honesty is
of great importance. Not much is known about Mr. Davis, or any of the jurors at the beginning of the
movie. As the plot develops, however, the nature of each character is revealed to the audience. It is
easy to see that one of Mr. Davis personality traits is honesty. Those who are honest are the most
trustworthy, and are often the most loyal. Having complete honesty will get anyone far in life, whether
it be through a job, marriage, friendship, or really anything at all, (unless they decide to become a
lawyer.) After watching the film 12 Angry Men, it is easy to see that the eighth juror

Essay about Social Psychology and Cults
A cult is defined as a social group or a social movement under one charismatic leader. It maintains a
belief system, which includes a transformation of a group member. Members of the group have a high
level of commitment to the leader, members, and beliefs (Lalich). An additional definition to consider
is from the American Journal of Psychotherapy:
...groups that often exploit members psychologically and/or financially, typically by making members
comply with leadership s demands through certain types of psychological manipulation, popularly
called mind control, and through the inculcation of deep seated anxious dependency on the group and
its leaders (Salande, and Perkins 382).

The second factor is the outcome. People in cults often come out of the group in a worse position than
when they first joined the cult. They could be worse off financially, psychologically, or relationally to
give a few examples. More times than not, people in groups that are not considered cults do not
produce the effects listed above. Instead, members of these groups report that they improve as a
person in some way (Salande, and Perkins 382, 383). Cults can be differentiated from other groups
because of the methods that cults use, and the effect that cults can have on its members.
Cults can be classified as destructive, considering the methods used and how membership affects
individuals. According to the International Cultic Studies Association or ICSA, cults can be
considered destructive to its members. Reports form former cult member s reveals that they have
trouble trusting others, problems forming and maintaining relationships, and feel disconnected with
the world. In addition, former cult members report being diagnosed with depression and Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD often having flashbacks of events that occurred while they were in
the cult. Finally, it is important to mention that cults also cause injuries or death. Considering these
reports cults can be classified as destructive because members may have a difficult time adjusting to
life outside the cult, difficulties in living life

Analysis Of The Film Maheshinte Driksathhikaram
After the most talked about film of Malayalam film industry in last year Maheshinte Prathikaram (
Mahesh s Revenge ) director Dileesh Pothan and actor Fahadh Faasil comes together for
Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum (Roughly translated as The Exhibit and the Witness ). Even though it
s only the second film from Pothan, due to the immense fan following for his previous film which
even generated a trend of finding minute details from that film and labeling it as Pothettan brilliance,
there was much hype to live up to. By making the subject into a dark humor rather than the previous
film which was more of a feel good film, Pothan was able to satisfy and surprise his fans.
The film begins in a rural village near Alappuzha where chance encounters leads into a love affair
between Prasad and Sreeja. Their inter caste marriage prompts them to shift to Kasargod. On a bus
journey Sreeja s gold chain is snatched by a man behind her while she fell asleep. As the chain is
being snatched she comes out of the sleep only to find the man swallowing it. With the help of
passengers and employees of the bus the thief is brought to the nearby Sheni police station, the man
denying the theft all the while. The only witness to the theft is Sreeja who was half asleep. So the
police decides to take the man into custody and wait for a day to find if the chain can be found in his
shit.
Just like in his previous film Pothan manages to make the locations into characters that are inevitable

Why Is Civil Disobedience Important
The law is meant to preserve order, safety, and other aspects of society, and generally should not be
disobeyed. However, civil disobedience is crucial to society. Civil disobedience improves society and
keeps society and government accountable to their respective duties.
Civil disobedience is a necessary civic duty, necessary to rein in government and society and keep
them accountable to their respective duties. An example of this is the release of the Pentagon Papers
by Daniel Ellsberg. The American government was being secretive about its actions in the Vietnam
War, and a democratic government should not be secretive about its actions. The U.S. is a
representative democracy who prides itself on the principles of democracy and individual freedom. It
has an entire branch of government Congress who is directly elected by the people, ... Show more

It is the government s duty to be transparent to its citizens, so that its citizens are informed about the
actions of the government, allowing for American citizens to make informed decisions about the
government and keep the government accountable to itself. However, during the Vietnam war, the
government was not performing its duty of being transparent to its citizens. It was not fulfilling its
duty as a democratic government. Therefore, action must be taken to rectify this, and make the
American government to be responsible to its citizens again. Civil disobedience can rectify problems
and keep society and the government accountable to their duties, making civil disobedience a
necessary civic duty. Thus, when Daniel Ellsberg was smuggling copies of confidential documents out
of the Pentagon to unveil to the public what would be the Pentagon Papers, he was performing his
civic duty. He was making the government transparent and, as a result, responsible to its people. Thus,
his act of civil disobedience illegally smuggling confidential government documents and publishing
them helped to make the government be more

Whether you have a chronic illness or are interested in...
Whether you have a chronic illness or are interested in eating well to prevent disease, the anti
inflammatory diet is gaining traction as a viable way to plan your meals in order to avoid
inflammation that can lead to heart disease, high blood pressure, painful joints, and other ailments.
Read on to learn about the components of an anti inflammatory diet and what foods you should avoid.
Experts note that an anti inflammatory diet is very similar to the Mediterranean diet, a heart healthy
way of eating that emphasizes fruits, vegetables, fish and whole grains. One study of more than 1.5
million healthy adults showed a marked reduction in risk of heart disease death, cancer death, and
development of Parkinson s and Alzheimer s disease. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Replace white flour products with those made from whole grains, and look for other ways to
incorporate whole grains into your diet. Protein should be limited to fish and lean chicken, with red
meat removed or severely restricted. Instead, focus on getting protein from beans, soybeans, and nuts.
Eat low or reduced fat versions of dairy products rather than the full fat varieties, limiting dairy
consumption to high quality cheeses and yogurt made from natural ingredients. Soy also has anti
inflammatory properties, so consuming soy milk, tofu, and edamame can be beneficial. And don t be
afraid to add spices like cinnamon, ginger, curry, and others, which can prevent inflammation and are
a good way to add flavor to foods without fat.
Healthy sweets, such as plain dark chocolate, should be enjoyed sparingly, with other types of sugary
treats limited. One to two glasses a day of red wine are fine under this diet, but other types of alcohol
should be avoided. Also, consider drinking two to four cups of white, green, or oolong tea each day.
If you are concerned about avoiding foods that cause inflammation, you should cut saturated fats and
trans fats from your diet. These harmful fats are primarily found in processed foods and meat. Refined
carbohydrates and white flour, such as that found in pasta and rice, also cause inflammation. Instead,
switch to whole grain

Essay on The Innovators of American Literature
The Innovators of American Literature
From their critical assessments on how to improve themselves and to the American public that they
influenced by their writings, Jonathan Edwards and Benjamin Franklin illustrate American themes in
their personal narratives that quintessentially make part of American Literature. Although they lived in
different times during the early development of the United States of America and wrote for different
purposes, they share common themes. Their influence by their environment, individualism, proposals
for a better society, and events that affected their society generate from their writings. By analyzing

Benjamin Franklin did not hold his family beliefs of Christianity, but from his early environment, he
drew his relationship to God as a Deist. Franklin believed there is a Supreme Being and it is our job to
discover our own reality by reasoning. In his autobiography, he notes several epiphanies that changed
his lifestyle. For example, he regretted his leaving Miss Read for England without pursuing their
relationship further. He calls these regrets or wrongdoings Erratum (Lauter 788). The spirituality of
Franklin and Edwards is distinctive, and their writings reflect their experiences and growth of
improvement. Franklin as a Deist felt that he created his destiny by the decisions he made. His
autobiography illustrates his faults and accomplishments. This openness aims to the audience, the
American, in order for them to reevaluate themselves and improve from their weaknesses. Franklin
wanted Americans to become better Americans. With Edwards beliefs, he felt that god predestined
every man, and only the elect entered in the afterlife to heaven. He focuses his writing to the Christian
audience. His goal is to prepare them to become candidates to be elect and show how the elect can set
an example for the rest of the congregation. These men felt the responsibility to live a better life and
set the example for every man in their community. As individuals, they constantly contemplate and

The Integral Role of Religion Illustrated in Gabriel...
Religion plays an integral role in The Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia. It is generally
considered by most readers that the initial chapters don t consist of the religious and spiritual makeup
of the townspeople but in fact, religion is subliminally present even earlier, within the title of the novel
itself. The word Death is integrally and inextricably linked with religious matter. After all, birth and
the inevitably of death are the two most important and debatable points in religion.
Religion is meant to be a solid force, helping society to bond better and progress in a civilized manner.

First, Marquez underlines, Both were exhausted from the barbarous work of death... (49). Marquez
exemplifies the way in which some aspects of religion are ignored and some have great emphasis put
on them. When Roman finds out that his new bride is not a virgin, he returns her. She is beaten
savagely, and her brothers are called from the brothel to come defend the family s honor. The
hypocrisy of family is revealed as they consider honor to be a part of the religion and instead of
religiously and peacefully solve the manner, the brothers murder Santiago Nasar. The family believes
that upholding the honor is righteous, and in doing so the sin of murdering Nasar is downplayed.
Furthermore, when the brothers put down their knives in front of the priest, instead of giving them
advice or condemning them, the priest recalled the surrender as an act of dignity (49). This is in total
conflict with Catholicism as it is amongst the Ten Commandments that Thou shall not kill and thus it
illustrates that even the priest of the town has lost the knowledge of the true religion. Marquez
cements the corruption of religion as even father Amador protected the brothers and not only him but
the lawyer stood by the thesis of homicide in legitimate defense of honor, which was upheld by the
court in good faith (48). Marquez continues to demonstrate that the society was lenient on the brothers
due to tradition and thus it illustrates that religion was only a minor

Walter Mitlter s Character Analysis
Walter Mitty is an average, middle aged man living a dull life, and is married to a bossy wife. He does
just about everything that Mrs. Mitty tells him to do, except see Dr. Renshaw; and because of all this,
Walter often daydreams about the more exciting lives that he could have possibly lived. These
daydreams become so elaborate that Walter is very easily distracted and does not communicate with
other people very well.
Walter s boring life leads him to become highly imaginative, though he grows more anti social at the
same time. All of this does not help him create bonds with anyone or feel as needed as he wants to be.
Walter s mundane life starts off with his wife telling him what he needs to do and go get. Mrs. Mitty
tells him to: slow down when he drives faster than forty kilometers per hour, to buy overshoes and
puppy biscuits, and asks why he s not wearing his driving gloves that she got for him (implying that
Walter should put them on). Knowing his wife would only be so long at the hair dresser and that she

highly skilled doctor, Dr. Prichard Mitford. Even Dr. Renshaw is there and asks Walter ot perform a

Montagu And Capulet In William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Once upon a time there lived in Verona two great families named Montagu and Capulet. They were
both rich, and I suppose they were as sensible, in most things, as other rich people. But in one thing
they were extremely silly. There was an old, old quarrel between the two families, and instead of
making it up like reasonable folks, they made a sort of pet of their quarrel, and would not let it die out.
So that a Montagu wouldn t speak to a Capulet if he met one in the street nor a Capulet to a Montagu
or if they did speak, it was to say rude and unpleasant things, which often ended in a fight. And their
relations and servants were just as foolish, so that street fights and duels and uncomfortablenesses of
that kind were always growing out of the Montagu and Capulet quarrel. Now Lord Capulet, the head
of that family, gave a party a grand supper and a dance and he was so hospitable that he said anyone
might come to it except (of course) the Montagues. But there was a young Montagu named Romeo,
who very much wanted to be there, because Rosaline, the lady he loved, had been asked. This lady had
never been at all kind to him, and he had no reason to love her; but the fact was that he wanted to love
somebody, and as he hadn t seen the right lady, he was obliged to love the wrong one. So to the
Capulet s grand party he came, with his friends Mercutio and Benvolio. Old Capulet welcomed him
and his two friends very kindly and young Romeo moved about among the crowd of courtly

Marx s Theory Of Total Social Capital
Marx begins his analysis of capital accumulation and growth with the demarcation of capital into its
two constituent parts: constant and variable capital. The former pertains to the means of production
utilized (as determined by its mass), whereas the latter term applies to human labour power inputs of
production (and is accounted for by the aggregation of wages). The organic composition of capital was
then conceived to establish the ratio of constant (value composition) to variable (technical
composition) capital incorporated in production. In order to extrapolate the allocation capital of a
single firm across the entire economy, Marx devised the concept of total social capital. This term
refers to the average arrangements of capital in each sector of the economy, averaged across all
spheres of the economy. Capital inherently generates an annual surplus, which in turn influences the
level of variable capital employed. The surplus produced by capital is divided into revenue for the
capitalist or reinvested in production. This reallocation of surplus ultimately determines the degree of
accumulation (if more capital is reinvested, and less kept as revenue for consumption, then
accumulation will be higher). It also has an effect on wages and the demand and supply of labour (i.e.
components of variable capital). Supply increases absolutely, as does the demand for labour (if the
variable capital needed for the operation of constant capital is unaffected) and wages will grow if

The Importance Of Objects In My Life
Most individuals have an object that holds a high value to them and affects their life in one way or
another. Behind each object, is a story to be told. Like most people, I have an object in my life that I
cherish dearly and will always appreciate because of the positive effect it has on my life. The object is
soft to the touch, is a variety of colors, and can be made into a tangible object. The object is extremely
important in my life because it has taught me a life lesson that I will always cherish and the object also
reminds me of an individual that pushes me to be the best individual I can possibly be and strive for
greatness no matter the state of a situation. I first encountered this object when I was about eight years

Political Identity In Persepolis
Are clothing, fashion, and lifestyle choices an effective way to make a political statement? Can
individuals express themselves without being constrained? This is an effective way and it is shown in
many ways. In the novel, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, Marji does not wear her veil because she is
less of a person and it is a constant reminder of women oppression. In Politics of the Hoodie, the
hoodie extinguishes individuality in this politicized life. In my eyes, this tactic is very potent because
in this society today, it is not easy to reside in. This is one of the ways that citizens can express
themselves instead of retorting to violence, especially teenagers today. Despite the negative aspects
that are created by the individuals on this earth, clothing, fashion, and lifestyle decisions can make a
compelling ideological statement. In the novel Persepolis, the use of clothing, fashion, and lifestyle
choices are used to make a political assertion. During the Iranian Revolution, women were forced to
wear the veil, but Marji disagreed with this. In the text it states, Guns may shoot and knives may carve
but we won t wear your silly scarves! (76). This shows that the veil was a way women became
involved in politics because it represented their attitude towards the veil and how it should become an
option. This was also a way that women showed their rebellion towards the veil. Marji is approached
by a female guardian of the revolution and she insults her choice of clothing. In the text it states, Why
are you wearing those punk shoes? Aren t you ashamed to wear tight jeans like those? (133). This
shows that Marji s decision to wear her western style culture clothing to make a political statement
was effective. All of those items were forbidden it can be seen as an act of rebellion. Lastly, when
Marji received her Kim Wilde Poster, she loved it and hung it up in her room even though it was not
allowed. In the text it states It is so far out... I put my posters up in my room! (181). This shows that
even though posters conflicted with Iran s Islamic laws, this was Marji s way of rebelling against the
regime. Day by day society is regulated and it limits expression that can be used to show individuality.

The applications of cell biology in the following four fields are given below:
1. Forensic
Forensic molecular biology involves the study of human and mitochondrial DNA (may include other
primates). Forensic molecular biology emphasizes molecular techniques such as DNA profiling and
repetitive DNA in the human genome; origin of genetic polymorphisms and how they are maintained;
continuous versus discrete allele systems; DNA isolation methods; Y chromosome haplogrouping and

The Story Of The 12 Spies
The story of the 12 spies seems to be a story of doubtfulness. Everyone has a sense of doubt because
we are human beings. Life is full of obstacles that you must get over. All obstacles are able to be
conquered, however our most mighty warrior is God. He must learn to not doubt his ability to bring us
through the many storms he places before us. He uses these storms to test our faithfulness in Him.
In this part of the book of Numbers, the spies are sent to look into the land that had been promised to
His people. The part that stood out was the two different stories that came back and how the ten spies
had no faith in the ability of God s promise.
Time after time, God proved to the people of Israel that nothing could defeat them if they just believed
in His word and be faithful to His will. The Lord promised Abraham that his people would be a
mighty nation, Abraham believed and was one of God s most faithful servants.
God used Moses to bring the people out from under the enslavement of Pharaoh. He brought them
through the Red Sea, however the people still doubted that God was powerful enough to bring them to
their own inheritance that waited for them.
The people of Israel, just like people of today, were impatient. Everyone wants instant gratification. In

currently attempting to make peace with FARC, which includes the problems of trafficking and
production of drugs. The Colombian government is also trying to stop farmers from growing cocaine
by offering farm owners money and the materials needed to grow other crops besides cocaine
(Marulanda). America is pushing for the Colombian government to stop the growth and production of
cocaine. America is the largest consumer of cocaine in the world, and Colombia is the largest producer
of cocaine in the world. According to the drug administration in the United States, 92 percent of all
cocaine that came to America was from Colombia in 2016 (Nacional). Even years after Escobar s
death, Colombia still has a monopoly over the American cocaine market, much to the disdain of the

Literary Criticism Of The Lottery By Shirley Jackson
Shirley Jackson has written many short stories throughout her career as a writer and continuous to be
one of the most brilliant and influential authors of the twentieth century. The Lottery remains to be one
of the greatest known and most widely discussed work among literary critics. Jackson was inspired to
write this story while she was walking down the Prospect hill with her baby, once she went back home
it just took her about three hours to write The Lottery and it only took about three weeks to be
published in The New York Times. This story exposes how a small town of only three hundred
habitants has a yearly custom of a lottery that tremendously shocks the reader when he or she finds out
what the price is. Jackson got a lot of criticism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mrs. Hutchinson was the winner of her death and the town just killed one of their members. [This
story] is eerily reminiscent of the ending of Hardy s Tess. When Angel Claire and Tess...flee to the

Descriptive Essay About A Beautiful Hotel
TITLE
The best of romance and pampering at Cape Sienna Hotel in Kamala Beach
LEAD PARAGRAPH
Seated on a bluff overlooking the Indian Ocean is Cape Sienna Hotel in Kamala Beach a sleepy resort
town on Thailand s Phuket Island. The hotel is not only rated by TripAdvisor as one of the most
romantic hotels in Thailand, but also in the world. From the moment you step foot into Cape Sienna s
lobby, which is up an elevator from the ground level allowing guests to glimpse pristine views of the
Indian Ocean, you realize that the hotel easily lives up to those high praises.

More like a spa than a hotel
As we sipped our rose tea, our minds quickly changed from chaotic travel mode to spa mode. The
view, with the soothing sounds from the water feature in the lobby, helps with that. Our daydreaming
was interrupted by one of the smiling staff members. She apologized profusely as she drew us back to
reality. Our room was ready and she wanted to acclimate us to the resort grounds. We sat on one of the
couches, still keeping an eye out the window, while she asked my wife to pick the scent she would like
for the room s toiletries, making Cape Sienna seem more like a spa than a hotel.
The path to the hotel rooms is quite steep and windy as it cuts through the hillside jungle. The view
from all 98 rooms makes the journey worth it though as all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Remember, this is a resort though so a massage is nowhere near as cheap as you can find off premise.
You re paying more for atmosphere. For example, a 90 minute Thai massage runs 2,650 THB (73
USD) versus 500 THB (14 USD) in town. I wouldn t describe the Thai massage at Cape Sienna as
traditional either. It s more of a hybrid between a Thai and a Swedish massage. This isn t necessarily a
bad thing as it s a nice gateway into a Thai massage for someone who has never had their body
contorted like that

What Is The Ten Commandments In Exodus Compared With The...
Compared with the Old Testament, Christian dogmas in the New Testament undergo significant
changes. These differences can be well demonstrated by comparing the Ten Commandments as
presented in Exodus with Jesus commenting upon them in the Gospel of Matthew. The Ten
Commandments, as laid out in Exodus, set most basic rules for every person to follow. They
determine the good and the bad, the moral norms. For example, it isn t morally accepted to kill, to
commit adultery. On the other hand, it s everyone s moral duty to love God, to love and respect one s
parents (Exodus, 20:3). Jesus bases his teaching upon the same commandments. Talking to his
disciples, as presented in Matthew s, he gives to these basic and simply listed rules more depth and

Tacitus On The Germans Summary Tacitus in his writing characterizes the Germanics as a stable, civilized community as well as a barbaric tribe, compared to Marcellinus who viewed them as savages when Priscus had a first hand account of the Germanics and thought of them as very well mannered people. Tacitus writes about how the Germanics are civilized, yet barbaric by stating that no other nation compares to the Germanics in entertainment and hospitality as well as writing how their children are naked and filthy (Tacitus). While the United States has finally accepted gay marriage, interracial and interfaith marriage are still looked at as dirty and wrong. The last time Liberia participated in a major continental tournament was in 2002, when Liberia participated in the World Cup qualifiers and African Cup of Nations. Just like other African countries, it is evident that Liberia has natural talents in football but the lack of proper management and sport programs have caused the beautiful game to lost interest in Liberia. Sam Phillips is considered the father of Rock and Roll. He went against the social normality of segregated music, and produced music that he felt should be made. Even when faced with career ending criticism, Phillips continued on making history. Not only is Sam Phillips responsible for the being the origin of the seemingly everlasting Rock and Roll movement, he segregated music amidst all kinds of cultural disruption with civil rights. This point in time is known as the origin of Rock and Roll. Contrary to what Rock and Roll is now, it was only popular within a certain demographic of people for a long time Furthermore, Sun Records and Sam Phillips went under fire by local radio stations and parents everywhere. Phillips s creation, Rock and Roll, caused an outrage. It was seen as provocative towards young people, which was its most popular demographic. • 8. Human Genetic Engineering And Eugenics Human genetic engineering and eugenics have been a largely controversial topic over the past decades. Eugenics can be popularly defined as the science of improving and enhancing a human population or person through manipulating the human genes, selective breeding, and sterilization. The end goal and desired result of eugenics is to basically create a human race or people with more desirable biological, physical, or psychological traits. Eugenics and genetic modification is a current, pressing subject; in April 2015, a group of Chinese researchers, used a new gene editing technology, called CRISPR to [tinker] with the genomes of human embryos (Adams). Presently, according to CQ Researcher, New genetic technologies allow scientists to delete a mutant gene and insert a healthy one, which...has the potential to eliminate inherited diseases, such as cystic fibrosis. However, these techniques have only been used on embryos belonging to laboratory animals. The big question here is whether or not science and technology are crossing an ethical boundary by using these techniques and performing genetic modification on human embryos. Do humans have the right to play God and alter nature? Following the background and history of genetic engineering and eugenics, it can definitely be seen why ethicists and scientists are concerned. • 9. Summary Of The Death Of Honesty By William Damon Introduction The article under analysis is entitled The Death of Honesty and is written by William Damon in 2012. In general, in his article, he describes the problem of deception in today s world and compares it with the past. He also uses many expressive means and rhetorical devices in order to support his idea. His main idea is that the biggest problem today is not that people are frequently lying because, as he says, it is in human nature to lie, and it is not always bad, but that truthfulness is becoming less important as it was before (Damon). Therefore, he fears that if his idea is true, the bonds of trust that are vital for creating a free democratic society are in danger, which will inevitably lead to the situation where building good relationships between people is impossible, and the civilized society will collapse. Summary of the Article At the beginning of the article, Damon describes the notion of deception and truth. He claims that deception is not always bad, but, moreover, it can be better than truth in certain cases and provides examples of such cases. Then he claims that telling lies is in human nature and that people have always been lying throughout their entire history. However, he expresses his concern toward the current tendency of making truth insignificant (Damon). In this respect, he says that despite people have always lied, the being honest was considered honorable, and this virtue had a high value among people. Now, in his opinion, this honor has disappeared. In the body of the article, the author depicts his fears that if being honest is no longer valued, the future society will collapse and give way to chaos and anarchy. Then he states that this tendency is observed even in those places where truth must be the priority, for example, educational institutions. Here he provides many examples of scandals that occurred in different schools regarding the students who were cheating and teachers who abetted them in doing it. Understandably, most students want to cheat, especially those who despise studying and learning. However, the motivation of teachers can be different and unusual. For example, some teachers do not punish students for teaching because they think that by helping each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Victorian period Victoria s long reign saw a growth in literature, especially in fiction, practiced notably by Dickens, Thackeray, the Brontës, George Eliot, Trollope, James, and Hardy. Victorian is a term that is often extended beyond the queen s reign (1837 1901) to include William IV s reign from 1830. Historian distinguishes early, middle, and late Victorian England, corresponding to periods of growing pains, of confidence in the 1850s, and of loss of consensus after 1880, a date which offers a convenient division: Charles Dickens (1812 70), and Oscar Wilde (1854 1900) belonged to different ages. • 17. Nuclear Weapons And Nuclear Proliferation Committee 9 Nuclear Proliferation Vanuatu (A) Brief Background of the Topic 1.) What is the historical background of this topic? Nuclear Proliferation is defined as the rapid spread or increase of nuclear weapons. Nuclear Proliferation has been a conflict worldwide for years. It all started during the Cold War, when the Soviet Union and the United States competed to obtain more nuclear weapons. As the Cold War continued, France, Britain, and China all began to develop their own nuclear technology. On July 1, 1968, the Treaty on the Non Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons was signed and entered into force in 1970. Under this treaty, a total of 190 parties have agreed to help prevent the spread of nuclear weapons. A few years later, the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks non proliferation act (SALT 1) was signed on May 26, 1972 and entered into force on October 3, 1972. After several years of struggle, the Cold War ended in December 1991. 2.) What nations are directly involved in this issue? The top contributors of nuclear proliferation include countries like the United States and Russia (formerly Soviet Union). These two countries were the first to obtain and test nuclear weapons. They are responsible for more than 93% of all operational nuclear warheads. It is a fact that 74% of burglars stay away from homes are occupied by those who own guns due to the fear of what could happen. The best part about owning a gun is you can keep burglars or vandals at bay without even having to fire your gun;, just the sight of a gun will keep people from trying to break into your homes. Now for the con side of this debate, first I would have to say that having a gun is extremely risky. There is danger associated with owning a gun. • 20. Nuclear Weapons During The Cold War Era Essay The development and use of nuclear weapons in 1945 changed not only warfare, but how countries approach warfare as a whole. As Andrew Heywood notes in his book, Global Politics, says that there s a tendency for any weapons to proliferate or spread. With that knowledge it should be assumed that many nations would want to obtain nuclear weapons after seeing what the power that they hold. A state being in possession of a nuclear weapon can deter potential enemies and make them a power on the global scale. The Cold War era and post Cold War era both saw an in increase in the spread of nuclear weapons. During the Cold War, after the US first used a nuclear weapon in 1945, states that gained nuclear capabilities were the France, the UK, China and the Soviet Union. Post Cold War era India, Pakistan, Israel and North Korea all gained nuclear weapons and shows the problem with proliferation of them. India and Pakistan are neighboring states and rivals which can lead to the possibility that they could be used at any moment. North Korea is a dangerous militaristic state that constantly threatens other states. This illustrates that the spread of nuclear weapons is a global problem because nuclear proliferation can possibly put WMDS, weapons of mass destruction, in the hands of rival states or extremely dangerous nations. However, civil disobedience is crucial to society. Civil disobedience improves society and keeps society and government accountable to their respective duties. Civil disobedience is a necessary civic duty, necessary to rein in government and society and keep them accountable to their respective duties. An example of this is the release of the Pentagon Papers by Daniel Ellsberg. The American government was being secretive about its actions in the Vietnam War, and a democratic government should not be secretive about its actions. She is beaten savagely, and her brothers are called from the brothel to come defend the family s honor. The hypocrisy of family is revealed as they consider honor to be a part of the religion and instead of religiously and peacefully solve the manner, the brothers murder Santiago Nasar. The family believes that upholding the honor is righteous, and in doing so the sin of murdering Nasar is downplayed. Furthermore, when the brothers put down their knives in front of the priest, instead of giving them advice or condemning them, the priest recalled the surrender as an act of dignity (49). This is in total conflict with Catholicism as it is amongst the Ten Commandments that Thou shall not kill and thus it illustrates that even the priest of the town has lost the knowledge of the true religion. Marquez cements the corruption of religion as even father Amador protected the brothers and not only him but the lawyer stood by the thesis of homicide in legitimate defense of honor, which was upheld by the court in good faith (48). • 32. Marx s Theory Of Total Social Capital Marx begins his analysis of capital accumulation and growth with the demarcation of capital into its two constituent parts: constant and variable capital. The former pertains to the means of production utilized (as determined by its mass), whereas the latter term applies to human labour power inputs of production (and is accounted for by the aggregation of wages). The organic composition of capital was then conceived to establish the ratio of constant (value composition) to variable (technical composition) capital incorporated in production. In order to extrapolate the allocation capital of a single firm across the entire economy, Marx devised the concept of total social capital. This term refers to the average arrangements of capital in each sector of the economy, averaged across all spheres of the economy. Capital inherently generates an annual surplus, which in turn influences the level of variable capital employed. The surplus produced by capital is divided into revenue for the capitalist or reinvested in production. This reallocation of surplus ultimately determines the degree of accumulation (if more capital is reinvested, and less kept as revenue for consumption, then accumulation will be higher). It also has an effect on wages and the demand and supply of labour (i.e. components of variable capital). Supply increases absolutely, as does the demand for labour (if the variable capital needed for the operation of constant capital is unaffected) and wages will grow if ... • 36. Political Identity In Persepolis Are clothing, fashion, and lifestyle choices an effective way to make a political statement? Can individuals express themselves without being constrained? This is an effective way and it is shown in many ways. In the novel, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, Marji does not wear her veil because she is less of a person and it is a constant reminder of women oppression. In Politics of the Hoodie, the hoodie extinguishes individuality in this politicized life. In my eyes, this tactic is very potent because in this society today, it is not easy to reside in. This is one of the ways that citizens can express themselves instead of retorting to violence, especially teenagers today. Despite the negative aspects that are created by the individuals on this earth, clothing, fashion, and lifestyle decisions can make a compelling ideological statement. In the novel Persepolis, the use of clothing, fashion, and lifestyle choices are used to make a political assertion. During the Iranian Revolution, women were forced to wear the veil, but Marji disagreed with this. In the text it states, Guns may shoot and knives may carve but we won t wear your silly scarves! (76). This shows that the veil was a way women became involved in politics because it represented their attitude towards the veil and how it should become an option. This was also a way that women showed their rebellion towards the veil. Marji is approached by a female guardian of the revolution and she insults her choice of clothing. In the text it states, Why are you wearing those punk shoes? Aren t you ashamed to wear tight jeans like those? (133). This shows that Marji s decision to wear her western style culture clothing to make a political statement was effective. All of those items were forbidden it can be seen as an act of rebellion. Lastly, when Marji received her Kim Wilde Poster, she loved it and hung it up in her room even though it was not allowed. In the text it states It is so far out... I put my posters up in my room!
