The Similarities Of The Flood Characters Of Gilgamesh And...
Though Gilgamesh and Genesis are completely different stories, they both contain flood narratives
that have similarities and differences within each. The three comparable points in these texts deal with
the gods and heroes of the stories. First the gods in these narratives all have a specific reason behind
their decision to wipe out mankind. Second the unique characteristics of the heroes or survivors of the
flood are shown throughout the events of the texts. Finally the gods who bring these floods upon earth
all reveal their qualities through their actions against humanity. These three topics relate from one
book to another in many ways. Before each of the floods there are reasons that each god decides to
eliminate the people on earth. In Gilgamesh the god Enlil chooses to destroy humanity with a flood
because it is the best way to get rid of the individuals who have sinned. After the flood the god Ea says
Let him who has performed an evil act be punished for that act. Let not the flood be brought down on
the heads of all for what one man has done... (Ferry 74). This statement shows how Enlil punished all
of mankind when most of them weren t to blame. On the contrary, in Genesis Gods motive for
destroying humanity with a flood is that the world was turning evil and cruel, which was not what God
intended. God s thoughts are shown through the following quote The Lord saw that the wickedness of
man was great in the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his

Geoffery Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
The Friar s Tale Ecker, Ronald and Crook, Eugene The Canterbury Tales The Canterbury Tales;
written by Geoffery Chaucer in the middle ages stands out as one of the key pieces of poetry from the
time. The Canterbury tales consist of many tales told by pilgrims on their way to The Cathedral of St.
Thomas A. Becket in Canterbury. Thirty pilgrims gathered for the voyage to the cathedral and all
agreed to tell two tales there and two on the way back. The pilgrims on the trip all come from different
background and all have different professions that will make each of their tales unique. The Friar s tale
carries unique components and lessons. The Friar s prologue and tale will be elaborated in the most
detail here. The Friars prologue comes

The LGBQT Community
The LGBQT community have made great strides into achieving their goal and legalizing gay
marriage. However despite gay marriage becoming legal and the normalization of homosexuality, the
LGBQT community continues to face scrutiny over their lifestyle. I will be talking about the various
conflicts the community faced in the past and continues to face in the present. And the various
sociological concepts that links as to why homosexuality is seen by society as deviance , such as the
Functionalist perspective and Socialization. According to the American Psychological Association, the
current scientific understanding is that individuals are usually aware of their sexual orientation
between middle childhood and early adolescence (2008). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The roles were functional because women were limited by the physical restraints of pregnancy and
unable to leave home for a long time. Once the roles were established it was passed long through
generations since it kept the family system functioning properly. During the war many women took
the mens job seeing as the men were away in war. When the men returned from war and wanted to
reclaim their jobs, society fell into imbalance because women did not want to relinquish their
positions and also because the women were able to the mens job as well as they did. When it comes to
sexuality functionalist stress the importance of regulating sexual behavior that ensure marital cohesion
and family stability. Functionalist sees the family unit as the most important component in society and
they promote family preservation. From Functionalist point of view homosexuality cannot be
promoted as acceptable substitute for heterosexuality. If homosexuality where to be promoted it would
block procreation. So, if homosexuality were to occur primarily it would cause dysfunction to society.
The problem of sexuality emerged in the 19th century as biological, social, psychological and moral
concern. Homosexual was first defined as a kind person and later changed. With the change of
definition of homosexuality led to social anxieties from the threat of

Questions On Legal Mobilization And Oral And Anal
Kellie McClure Sociology 323 Final Exam Part 1 (Short answers/terms): 1. Sodomy is any sex that is
non procreative. This means that it is both oral and anal. It applies to everyone, gays, lesbians, and
heterosexuals. It is significant to the context of the course because there were sodomy laws and
Bowers v. Hardwick was a case that changed the way we talk about things of this nature. 2. Social
closure is when there are boundaries created in order to define who is allowed in a profession. This is
important to our class discussion because it helps show why there is differences in who is in the
profession. This means that women, minorities, and blacks are all given boundaries of how they can
enter the law profession. 3. Legal mobilization means that different advocacy groups and
organizations with a cause are using the law and litigation in order to create social change. This is
important because it shows the different ways in which we enact social change. Law can be used to
make a difference in our laws instead of just being to handle a dispute or criminal case. 5. The Access
to Justice Gap means that there are more people who are eligible for legal assistance but there are not
enough lawyers to accept their cases. This is a growing inequality. This is relevant because is shows
the inequality within the system. There are cases that possibly should go to court but without legal
assistance especially to those who cannot afford it, there is no possible way for them to

##jection Of Men In The Metamorphosis, The Overcoat, And...
Certain pieces of literature studied indicate a consistent theme of the subjection of men. Writers of
literary works such as The Metamorphosis, The Overcoat, and American Beauty definitively succeed
in portraying a somewhat pathetic protagonist male and how that male is ostracized by the people in
his surrounding environment. In all three pieces, the subjugated men react in various ways. These men
either rise up and liberate themselves by taking an effective standpoint on their desiderates or let
others prevail in subduing their desires and frame them as the inept and fallacious component of
society. However, all three characters, Gregor Samsa, Akaky Akakievich Bashmachkin, and Lester
Burnham fate lead to a considerably likewise peculiar outcome. In The Metamorphosis, Franz Kafka
consigns a compelling character analysis of Gregor Samsa, a traveling salesman with an abysmal
hatred for his job. Kafta initiates the short story with a metaphorical setting in which the protagonist,
Gregor, is mysteriously turned into a monstrous vermin . The metamorphosis of Gregor into
cockroach represents the loss of control Gregor feels in his life and his judgment on himself by his
defeated humanity because of the commitments he must abide by in order to support his family.
Though Gregor is horrified by his unexpected transformation, he comes to accept his condition and
modify his attitude to fit the situation. Even though his transformation may bring prolonged

Technology And Social Disconnection From Everyday Life
Not a wired culture, but a virtual cultural that is wired shut: compulsively fixated on digital
technology as a source of salvation from the reality of a lonely culture and radical social disconnection
from everyday life (Doheny Farina, 1996). The mobile telephone has been the most rapidly
disseminated piece of technology in world history. The first commercially available mobile devices
were available in the 1980 s, and since then have expanded exponentially. In 1994, Finland was the
world leader in terms of mobile subscribers with ten percent of the population being hooked on a
mobile contract (Wirzenius, n.d.). Over the past twenty years, these numbers have increased beyond
one s imagination. As of January 2014, ninety percent of American adults own a cell phone and over
half of those own a smartphone (Pew Research Center s Internet American Life Project, 2014). These
numbers will only increase with time as in a survey conducted by Pew Internet (2014) ninety eight
percent of adults between the ages of eighteen to twenty nine own mobile devices with numbers
decreasing slightly as the population aged. As our culture begins to shift more into the digital
revolution age we find ourselves losing vital communication skills in person to person contact. The
sight of a local Starbucks at lunch time filled with business workers and teenagers glued to their
screens more so than enjoying lunch, an adolescent playing games on their smartphone or texting and
driving, are all

Essay on Social Control Theory vs. Social Learning Theory
Social Control Theory vs. Social Learning Theory
Abstract
Social control theory and social learning theory are two theories that suggest why deviant behavior is
chosen to be acted upon by some individuals and not others. Both take a different stance on the issue.
Social control theory suggests people s behavior is based on their bonds to society, if they have strong
bonds to society they conform and if not they have a tendency to act out or become involved in
criminal or deviant behavior. Social learning theory suggest that through vicarious learning people
learn from observing others and based on what the observe make the choice of whether to copy those
actions to obtain desired results or chose not to if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
47 54). Also to achieve many of these goals it is very helpful not to participate in delinquent behavior
because it is looked upon negatively and could hinder the achievement of the goals.
The third element in Hirschi bond to society is involvement. Involvement in this theory is simply the
level of participation an individual actively pursues in conventional activities. Some of the activities
this could include are social events, sports teams, school clubs, religious organizations, family events,
or simply a job. These types of activities keep people busy and provide less time to participate or get
caught up in delinquent behavior. This is especially the case for adolescents as they are highly
influenced by peers who may not lead them to the best choices on how to spend their time, which
could lead to deviant behavior (Simons, Simons, amp; Wallace, 2004, p. 21).
The fourth and final element is belief (Simons, Simons, amp; Wallace, 2004, p. 21). Parents and
teachers can play an important role in children s lives by teaching them right from wrong, moral
issues, and the basic rules and laws of society. How the child comes to understand, accept, and believe
in these concepts will determine how he or she acts. If the child believes in these rules and laws and
accepts them he or she is more likely to follow the law and less likely to partake in delinquent
behavior, the opposite holds true if he or she does not believe in the rules or do not care or fear the

How Media Affects Self Image
Teenage and college women are overly obsessing about their body images and constantly think that
they need to be much skinnier, when they are not even fat. Many women today have the wrong idea of
what the perfect body is, since there is no such thing as a perfect body. Every person is different and
there can be no perfect . Being skinny is not the thing to strive for, but rather being healthy is. In this
decade, women are constantly looking at models, T.V. shows and Instagram photos of girls that are
stick thin, or just very skinny, and they think that this is the way we as women in society must look.
The problem is by excessively looking at these photos or T.V. shows, women become self conscious,
obsessive, unhealthy and simply unhappy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lopez Guimera states, Media are among the principal social agents in many societies around the
world. Television, magazines, newspapers, radio, cinema, advertising, the Internet, and other so called
new media or new technologies occupy if not invade much of our leisure time, and indeed our
working time (Lopez Guimera, 4). If you really think about it, on most occasions, when Americans
have some down time, or a couple of minutes to rest, they quickly turn to the Internet or television. As
for teenage girls, this is what aids in the issue of unhappiness with the body. If a girl spends up to ten
minutes a day on a social media, or networking site, that can lead up to the viewing of an estimate
twenty pictures. Yes, twenty pictures, in only ten minutes. No wonder why girls have so many things
to compare themselves to. One of the worst social media sites for this issue would be Tumblr, a
domain where any user can share and post hundreds of pictures on to their own page for everyone to
view. When searching the words skinny Tumblr on Google, hundreds of Tumblr pages come up with
disturbing names such as, thin to fit in, some day I will be skinny, skinny size zero, soso skinny, along
with many more. The idea of girls

The Mood Disorder Depression Essay
The Mood Disorder Depression Depression can be defined as an affective, or mood disorder
characterized by mood deviations that exceed normal mood fluctuations. At its most extreme,
depression can describe a psychotic state where the individual cannot function on his or her own.
Everyone can go through times of feeling down for a period of time after having suffered a loss, but
for people with the illness known as depression, these feelings of sadness can go on for long periods
of time. In fact, about 1 in every 10 of us will be seriously depressed during sometime in our lives. As
viewed by psychiatrists, depression is an illness in which a person experiences a marked change in
their mood and in the way they view themselves and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One type of depression is known as major depression which is the most serious of all types of
depression when speaking of the amount of symptoms and severity of symptoms. Some believe that
one must feel suicidal or have a history of hospitalizations in order to be considered to have major
depression, however this is not true. Bipolar depression usually occurs during ones early twenties, and
is a disorder which involves mood switches which are dramatic and rapid, nevertheless most often
they are gradual. It also deals with cycles of elation or mania which often affects thinking, judgment,
and social behavior. Bipolar disorder almost always involves abnormal moods at both ends of the
emotional spectrum. Those with bipolar depression can have extreme mood swings ranging from
extreme euphoria to incapacitating depression called manic episodes. Manic episodes usually begin
suddenly, and symptoms rise rapidly. During an episode of euphoria the persons self confidence is
inflated, throughout this the persons ability to function is verily impaired, they can run up bills or even
disappear for weeks at a time. About 2 million Americans suffer from bipolar disorder annually. For
both men and women the chances of getting bipolar disorder are equal. Another form of depression is
dysthymic disorder which refers to a

Total Serum Protein Determination Lab Report
Introduction
Total serum protein determination is a standard clinical test that is often used for the diagnosis of
diseases involving the kidneys, liver or bone marrow and other metabolic or nutritional disorders1.
Blood plasma contains approximately 7% proteins by weight and the fluid that remains after the
clotting factors are removed from the plasma is the serum2. Albumin and globulin are the most
common blood proteins, and the total protein is the combined measure of the two3. The most
abundant protein is albumin, which acts as a carrier of many different molecules in the blood and
helps maintain blood volume2. The globulin proteins include many enzymes and elements of the
immune system such as antibodies and immunoglobulins2. Changes in ... Show more content on

This method is a chromogenic test that uses biuret reagent to detect the presence of peptide bonds in
blood serum12. The active ingredients in the reagent are sodium hydroxide, potassium sodium tartrate
and copper sulphate pentahydrate13. The development of a violet colour after incubation at room
temperature is indicative of the presence of proteins and peptides in the blood serum12. A coloured
coordination complex forms when the copper ions (Cu2+) binds to the deprotonated nitrogen atoms
that form the peptide bonds of the amino acids12. Reactions can also occur between Cu2+ and the
nitrogen in the amide groups and the imidazole rings12. The colour intensifies after a period of
incubation as the alkalinity of the solution increases and more deprotonated nitrogen atoms become
available12. The concentration of the protein and the colour intensity are proportional, thereby
exhibiting a linear relationship in accordance with the Beer Lambert law14. Absorbance is measured

Differences Between Grounded Theory And Narrative Analysis
Grounded theory Is a qualitative approach which calls for simultaneous data collection and analysis to
generate a theory during the research process. A theory emerges inductively through the systematic
data collection and analysis pertaining to a given phenomenon (Strauss Corbin, 1990). This has two
fundamental characteristics which include: theoretical sampling and constant comparative analysis. A
grounded theory is generated by themes which emerge from the data during analysis, capturing the
essence of meaning drawn from varied contexts and situations
Theoretical sampling, this involves data collection for comparative analysis (Glaser Strauss 1967).
The collected data then gives insights and the analysis leads to further data collection and analysis.

The similarities between Grounded theory and Narrative analysis include the following,
Both approaches are based on naturalistic inquiry. They focus on how people behave in natural
settings while engaging in real life experiences. Both maintain inquiry stems from the naturalistic
paradigm that places itself opposite positivist paradigm.
Both approaches support flexibility in using multiple sources of data. This allows checking the
reliability and validation of a given phenomenon under investigation through triangulation. For
example use of interviews, document review and observation.
Both methods seek themes through coding process. The main of these two approaches is to capture
themes and subthemes which emerge in the process of data collection. All these are backed by direct
quotes from the participants in the study.
In both methods, texts to be coded into themes or categories follow qualitative analysis

Four Leadership Theories
Introduction
I have just been appointed to organise a small team in a large corporate organisation. As I am new to
this role I have been provided with the assistance of a mentor.
TASK 1
In the first meeting I realised that to have a useful discussion with the mentor I should study the
concepts and theories related to management and leadership so I can properly make the notes that
would help in proper discussion with the mentor. For this reason I studied different articles and make
notes that consist of:
AN ANALYSIS OF THE CONCEPTS OF LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT
In this report I will discuss the four leadership theories that include leader member exchange theory,
path goal theory, transactional transformational theory and the full range leadership theory. (UK
essays. November 2013) we start the report by discussing the leader member exchange theory. Leader
Member Exchange Theory, also called LMX or Vertical Dyad Linkage Theory, explains how leaders
in groups maintain their position through a series of tacit exchange agreements with their members . In
this theory there are 3 qualities of the leader follower collaborations were analyzed by the LMX such
as locus of control, need for power, and self esteem. The extent to which a person has control over his
life and environment is locus of control. A person who think they are responsible for all their activities
are the persons with the internal locus of control. These people are usually the people who show more

Statistical And Descriptive Methods For Solving Business...
Business problems can be researched by using descriptive statistical and inferential methods. Data
collection instruments and various sampling methods are essential tools for business research. This
paper will discuss use of inferential and descriptive methods for solving business problems within
insurance.
Descriptive statistics are used to describe the basic features of the data in a study...which provide
summaries about the sample and the measures. With descriptive statistics you are simply describing
what is or what the data show and present quantitative description in a manageable form. (William, M.

Scatter plots is a graph of points that are plotted to illustrate the relation between two different sets of
data. They investigate any relation amongst variables within the same event.
Simple linear regression allows you to predict scores on one variable to the scores on a second
variable. It uses one independent variable to describe the relation of the independent and dependant
variable as a line.
Multiple regressions are learning about the independent and dependent variables relationship between
each other. It enables you to predict the value that is unknown from two or more variables. It assists
with the prediction of the value of Y.
Non linear regression is an analysis where observational data is formed by different functions, then are
shared and depend on independent variables.
The strengths of the sampling approach include: Data collection is important to research study because
they reveal results and impact valuation. Descriptive statistics are ideally used to describe how data is
allocated and the design of a sample. Central tendency, mode, median and mean are used to determine
the number of policies sold per month and the calendar month the policy was sold in. The data reveals
the annual average and the median, which is the greater than the average indicates the lower

The Creature In The Lagoon
The Creature in the Lagoon
If only Jacqueline and I had listened to our parents and not ventured into the lagoon, Elaine thought.
Elaine and Jacqueline were growing up in a condominium facing Lake Ontario in downtown Toronto
on Queen s Quay Boulevard. Their parents, Dennis and Roberta, were both lawyers. Elaine was
fourteen and Jacqueline was sixteen. The lagoon in question was located at Hanlon s Point, next to the
Toronto Islands.
Dennis and Roberta had always warned Elaine and Jacqueline to stay away from the lagoon.
The lagoon is not safe, Dennis cautioned. It is private property, owned by the Harbour Commission.
Why? asked Elaine.
Because the lagoon contains an amphibious creature, Roberta answered. It is built like a man, but it
looks like a fish. It stands upright with what looks like legs, but it is scaly and has sharp teeth like a
shark and claws instead of hands.
The parents warnings seemed silly to Elaine and Jacqueline. Both girls thought it would be fun to
explore the lagoon.
One day, Elaine and Jacqueline were watching on television an old movie called The Lagoon
Creature. The so called creature, the mysterious man fish, was half amphibious, half human, and
resembled the creature their mother had told them about. Elaine was squirming with fear, although
Jacqueline was laughing.
Do you actually believe in these creatures? Elaine asked Jacqueline.
No, I don t, Jacqueline answered. The story on TV is made up, just like our parents keep telling us
there is a man built like a fish in the lagoon. Our friends from school walk around the lagoon all the
time. I have never heard stories from them about an amphibious creature. They would laugh at this
story.
The next day, it just so happened that Dennis and Roberta were relaxing around the condominium s
swimming pool. Elaine and Jacqueline decided to go down to Eaton s Centre, but as they left their
condominium building to get the Harbourfront bus to Union Station, they decided to take the bus in
the opposite direction to the lagoon, which was located near the Toronto Islands.
No sooner had the girls reached the lagoon than they saw something enormous splashing in it.
Puzzled, they watched the water bubbles and the swirling water. There

Cakeout Dagoie Saloon Analysis
The piece Stakeout by The Tango Saloon effectively uses instrumentation, harmony and rhythm to
convey character in the song.
The prominent use of organ in the piece contributes to the songs tense, foreboding character. The
dissonance created by the organ and the use of a rotary speaker creates a thick, unnatural and
disturbing timbre. The character of the song is also conveyed using auxiliary percussion. The ostinato
arpeggio played on the xylophone in the chorus, along with the tubular bell strikes, shakers and heavy

The use of harmony in the piece is one of the main elements that creates character in the piece. The

Why Is Henry Ford Important
Henry Ford was the founder of the Ford Motor Company. His vision for the company was to make a
better, cheaper motor car for the multitude. The Ford Motor Company released the Model T on
October 1, 1908. The Model T was easy to operate, maintain, and handle. Then in 1913, Ford
introduced the moving assembly line for automobiles, this increased the output of vehicles immensely.
Then in January of 1914 Ford doubled the wages to five dollars a day. Henry Ford s last innovation to
automobiles was in 1932. He created a lightweight inexpensive V8 engine. In 1936, the Ford Motor
Company fell to third place in the United States Market behind General Motors and Chrysler
Corporation. Ford then died on April 7, 1947 at the age of 83. () Theodore Roosevelt was the twenty

history of Monroeville s founding, the way it was in the 1930s, the way it almost mirrors Maycomb
and the way it is it today, one can see that Ms. Lee s used her experiences to create one of the most
famous towns in literature.
Monroeville, Alabama is located between Montgomery and Mobile. Before it was developed as a
town in 1831, it was called Burnt Corn Springs. During this time, there was major conflicts between
England, Spain, and Native Americans (Monroeville int). This past showed what Monroeville ... Show

Cultural Assimilation In Things Fall Apart
How can staying true to one s culture benefit them? More often than not, cultural assimilation is seen
as a consequence of migration. And the introduction of the Europeans into the Ibo society is no
different, although in this case, it was more beneficial than detrimental to the Ibo. Enoch, a character
in Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart accepts the Western ideas, and changes when his identity is
tested, which evinces that a change in culture has potential to be advantageous. To begin, Enoch s
response to the conflicting European culture turned out to be positive. One way his response is
empathetic is his acceptance of the new religion. In the novel, this is shown when the narrator
explains, These outcasts, or osu, seeing that the new religion welcomed twins and other such
abominations, thought that it was possible that they would be received (Achebe 155). Enoch s
acceptance of the new religion gave him the chance to start over. Another way Enoch s response is
positive is his willingness to learn and help others grow. The Europeans encouraged the Ibo to learn
their ways, not only in religion but also education. The narrator process this by ... Show more content

A new culture can either accepted or rejected by members of the original society, which can be shown
by the characters Enoch and Okonkwo, consecutively. There narrator describes, Nwoye struggled to
free himself from the choking grip. Answer me, roared Okonkwo, Before I kill you (Achebe 152).
Unlike Okonkwo, Enoch chooses to embrace the new culture, and because of that, he gets to reap the
rewards. One of those awards was protection. Enoch must have thought he had more than everyone
else when he, [...]boasted aloud that they would not dare to touch a Christian (Achebe 196). Enoch s

PROFESSIONAL PRESCENCE AND INFLUENCE Western Governments University January 12,
2016 PROFESSIONAL PRESENCE What does it mean to be human, and how do we as nurses
provide care to our patients? According to Jean Watson The future of nursing is tied back to
Nightingales sense of calling guided by a sense of commitment and covenantal ethic of human
service; cherishing our phenomena, our subject matter and those we serve. It is when we include
caring and love in our work and our life we discover and affirm that nursing, like teaching is more
than just a job but a life giving and life receiving career for a lifetime of growth and learning (Watson,

The newest and most recent of Larry Dossey s Eras is Era III which took shape in the 1990 s. Era III is
considered the body, mind, spirit and biopsychosocial model. In this model Dossey explains that
healing is not only on a physical level but a conscious level. Dossey states Consciousness is not
confined to an individual body, an individual mind may affect not just their body but also other people
around them (Dossey,L. nd). The Eastern models of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and the
Ayurvedic beliefs about being human and caring for people are similar to Dossey s theories. These
theories underlying belief in how to provide care are the body is made of 5 elements and disease is
caused when there is an imbalance between the elements ( Traditional Chinese Medicine: In Depth
amp; What is the Philosophy of Ayurvedic Medicine, nd). There are many different styles in the way a
presents a caring presence to their patients, such as a nurse s personality, and mindfulness practice to
the way they provide a healing environment. As a nurse the caring model that I can relate to most is
Dossey Era III. I believe that health and healing is not just about the physical aspect but involves the
person as a whole. Healing involves not only physical, mind, body, spirit and cultural factors; but also
involves patients and family involvement in their own care. Being in the emergency department I

The customer insights packages will focus on two areas: micro data insights and macro data insights
Micro insights: This venture will allow us the opportunity for strategic partnership with other business
establishments such as restaurants, cafes, shopping malls, fashion outlets, cinemas, entertainment
outlets, financial institutions etc. Our partners will place targeted or intended digital advertisements
through mobile devices when customers are near the business location.
Macro insights: As a telecom operator, we have huge insight into customer behavior from subscriber s
mobile phone data usage. This information can then be used by anonymizing and aggregating the data
to see key patterns such as subscriber daily routines, activities, and overall behavior. These insights
can then be segmented into age groups, genders, etc. This can provide major insights for other
business entities to act upon.
Consequently, the value to be derived from these packages offering to our company will include:
revenue from a completely new customer base and opportunities for growth using data insights.

Comparsion of Sandra Cisneros´ Barbie-Q and Annie Chopin´s...
In Sandra Cisnero s short story Barbie Q, a Barbie doll is used to portray the author s inner struggle to
achieve perfection, and how her young age and innocence clouds her identity. Throughout the text it is
very clear that the author, a young girl, had come from an underprivileged family and faced the issues
many families of lower socioeconomic background typically face. In the short story it is also evident
that her gender plays a massive role in damaging her self esteem and confidence, as both the media
and the author s social background have continuously portrayed women as weak, powerless figures.
Similarly, in The Story of an Hour by Annie Chopin, the protagonist, once again a female figure
represented the life of domesticity a woman is expected to hold by society. Although Chopin s story
was written in the late 1800s and Barbie Q is a very modern story, both depict the protagonist females
as very helpless, incapable figures that trail after the overpowering men.
In the second paragraph of Barbie Q, the author speaks from a first person perspective while
describing how she typically plays pretend using her dolls. The narrator explains to the reader that,
Your Barbie is roommates with my Barbie, and my Barbie s boyfriend comes over and your Barbie
steals him, okay? Kiss kiss kiss. Then the two Barbies fight. You dumbbell! He s mine. This text
openly reveals how the young author, who presumably has not even reached her teen years yet, has
been deeply

convenient to watch movies on their devices. It was a fatal blow to Netflix DVD rental service. Netflix

The Alaska Lng Project, A Pipeline
I am writing to you in response to the proposed Alaska LNG project, a pipeline that stretches from the
North Slope to the small community of Nikiski, Alaska, that you are currently supporting as chairman
of the Senate Energy and Natural resources committee (Alex Martinson, 2015). Please realize that I
am not an expert in this matter but simply a concerned citizen who would regret to know that negative
environmental and community effects would result from the construction of facilities associated with a
natural gas pipeline and production.
Allow me to start by saying that this state and the Kenai Peninsula community, are very important to
me. I have lived in Nikiski, Alaska for the past 11 years, and I would sincerely hate to see this
community and state polluted by large scale LNG production and transportation if it could be avoided.
I also realize the positive economic outcome for the state of Alaska as well as the U.S. as a whole.
However, do these fiscal gains constitute enough incentive to potentially disrupt natural environments
and put Alaska s citizens at risk?
Consider the Trans Alaska Pipeline and crude oil transportation that is currently in place from the
North Slope to the Valdez Marine Terminal. Many oil spills have occurred since it began
transportation in 1977 such as the one that occurred in 2006 that went undetected for days resulting in
267,000 gallons of crude oil escaping into the environment (Barringer, 2006). Also, in 1989, the
Exxon Valdez oil spill

Personal Narrative-Memoir s Shoot The Messenger
Yeah, I directed an episode of Haven in its last season. And that was something I had always been
working toward even before I worked on Haven. I ve shadowed directors as much as I could and as
long as I could in the hopes of one day getting to direct myself. And that actually came to pass, and the
experience was beyond my wildest dreams. It was just incredible. I loved it. I was terrified and just
completely overwhelmed the whole time with a combination of sheer terror and pure joy. It was
amazing. Then I assume that s something you d like to do more of in the future. Definitely. Definitely.
So in addition to directing, are you thinking one day you may do some writing? Yeah, I ve been doing
some writing for a little while now. And yeah, I would love to be able to have some of ... Show more

cn_bjbpwoaaaw3i.png Sure. There s a series called Shoot the Messenger which is going to be
premiering on CBC in Canada in October. So that s something wildly different than the things we ve
been talking about. It s a dramatic eight part series about an investigative journalist who stumbles on a
case that quickly pulls her into this rabbit hole of political intrigue and murder and sex and drugs and
all sorts of dangerous and wild stuff. So it s something very different. But I play an investigative
journalist her partner and so the two of us are trying to figure it all out the show starts out with a
murder. And it gets more and more confusing and more and more dangerous. It s going to be a pretty
wild show. It sounds interesting, but of course, since it s in Canada, we will have to wait to see it.
Sometimes it upsets me because there are these great shows up in Canada that we can t watch Totally.
but of course, it happens that s there s shows here that you guys aren t able to watch. Right. For now,

James Glasgow Farragut
James Glasgow Farragut started life on July 5, 1801. He was born near Campbell s Station, Tennessee.
His parents were George Farragut, who was a native to spain, and his mother was Elizabeth Farragut.
In his early childhood years, he was adopted by Captain David Porter to learn trade, after his mother
died of yellow fever. Also, he was adopted, because his biological father wanted to put his young
children, into the care of family, and friends. This was so that the children would be better cared for.
During the war of 1812, Farragut served under Captain David Porter, who was in charge of the Frigate
Essex. During the War of 1812, James Farragut changed his first name to David, to honor David
Porter, who adopted him. When Farragut was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This area was defended by a couple of forts, and the largest of them was fort Morgan. Fort Morgan
had a long line of torpedos, or landmines, on one side of the fort. Farragut approached the fort, in two
columns. Each column had armored ships in the front, followed by a fleet of of wooden ships. Once
the lead ship, Tecumseh was destroyed by a landmine, another leading ship stopped in alarm, and the
whole fleet went into confusion under firing range, from Fort Morgan. Once the disaster, seemed like
it could get no worse, Farragut yelled, Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead. Surprisingly, all of the
mines failed to explode, so this meant that all of his fleet was able to reach the enemy Fort shore. Now
that the Forts were completely isolated, they each surrendered one by one. Vicksburg was the first to
surrender, on July 4th, 1863. Then, on July 9th, General Banks accepted that the Confederate Garrison
would be surrendered. The battle of Mobile Bay was the Climax of David Farragut s career. Since
Farragut was a rear admiral in 1862, and a vice admiral in 1864, he was appointed full admiral in
1866. Farragut s last in command service was from 1867, to 1868. Although that was his last service
in command, David Farragut remained on active duty, until he died. The award of being active duty
until death, has only been awarded to him and six other people. At the age of 69, while Farragut was
on vacation in Portsmouth New Hampshire. Farragut had almost been in the military for 60 years.

  • 2. The Similarities Of The Flood Characters Of Gilgamesh And... Though Gilgamesh and Genesis are completely different stories, they both contain flood narratives that have similarities and differences within each. The three comparable points in these texts deal with the gods and heroes of the stories. First the gods in these narratives all have a specific reason behind their decision to wipe out mankind. Second the unique characteristics of the heroes or survivors of the flood are shown throughout the events of the texts. Finally the gods who bring these floods upon earth all reveal their qualities through their actions against humanity. These three topics relate from one book to another in many ways. Before each of the floods there are reasons that each god decides to eliminate the people on earth. In Gilgamesh the god Enlil chooses to destroy humanity with a flood because it is the best way to get rid of the individuals who have sinned. After the flood the god Ea says Let him who has performed an evil act be punished for that act. Let not the flood be brought down on the heads of all for what one man has done... (Ferry 74). This statement shows how Enlil punished all of mankind when most of them weren t to blame. On the contrary, in Genesis Gods motive for destroying humanity with a flood is that the world was turning evil and cruel, which was not what God intended. God s thoughts are shown through the following quote The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his ... However despite gay marriage becoming legal and the normalization of homosexuality, the LGBQT community continues to face scrutiny over their lifestyle. I will be talking about the various conflicts the community faced in the past and continues to face in the present. And the various sociological concepts that links as to why homosexuality is seen by society as deviance , such as the Functionalist perspective and Socialization. According to the American Psychological Association, the current scientific understanding is that individuals are usually aware of their sexual orientation between middle childhood and early adolescence (2008). ... Once the roles were established it was passed long through generations since it kept the family system functioning properly. During the war many women took the mens job seeing as the men were away in war. When the men returned from war and wanted to reclaim their jobs, society fell into imbalance because women did not want to relinquish their positions and also because the women were able to the mens job as well as they did. When it comes to sexuality functionalist stress the importance of regulating sexual behavior that ensure marital cohesion and family stability. Functionalist sees the family unit as the most important component in society and they promote family preservation. From Functionalist point of view homosexuality cannot be promoted as acceptable substitute for heterosexuality. If homosexuality where to be promoted it would block procreation. So, if homosexuality were to occur primarily it would cause dysfunction to society. The problem of sexuality emerged in the 19th century as biological, social, psychological and moral concern. • 5. Questions On Legal Mobilization And Oral And Anal Kellie McClure Sociology 323 Final Exam Part 1 (Short answers/terms): 1. Sodomy is any sex that is non procreative. This means that it is both oral and anal. It applies to everyone, gays, lesbians, and heterosexuals. It is significant to the context of the course because there were sodomy laws and Bowers v. Hardwick was a case that changed the way we talk about things of this nature. 2. Social closure is when there are boundaries created in order to define who is allowed in a profession. This is important to our class discussion because it helps show why there is differences in who is in the profession. This means that women, minorities, and blacks are all given boundaries of how they can enter the law profession. 3. Legal mobilization means that different advocacy groups and organizations with a cause are using the law and litigation in order to create social change. This is important because it shows the different ways in which we enact social change. Law can be used to make a difference in our laws instead of just being to handle a dispute or criminal case. 5. The Access to Justice Gap means that there are more people who are eligible for legal assistance but there are not enough lawyers to accept their cases. This is a growing inequality. This is relevant because is shows the inequality within the system. There are cases that possibly should go to court but without legal assistance especially to those who cannot afford it, there is no possible way for them to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. ##jection Of Men In The Metamorphosis, The Overcoat, And... Certain pieces of literature studied indicate a consistent theme of the subjection of men. Writers of literary works such as The Metamorphosis, The Overcoat, and American Beauty definitively succeed in portraying a somewhat pathetic protagonist male and how that male is ostracized by the people in his surrounding environment. In all three pieces, the subjugated men react in various ways. These men either rise up and liberate themselves by taking an effective standpoint on their desiderates or let others prevail in subduing their desires and frame them as the inept and fallacious component of society. However, all three characters, Gregor Samsa, Akaky Akakievich Bashmachkin, and Lester Burnham fate lead to a considerably likewise peculiar outcome. In The Metamorphosis, Franz Kafka consigns a compelling character analysis of Gregor Samsa, a traveling salesman with an abysmal hatred for his job. Kafta initiates the short story with a metaphorical setting in which the protagonist, Gregor, is mysteriously turned into a monstrous vermin . The metamorphosis of Gregor into cockroach represents the loss of control Gregor feels in his life and his judgment on himself by his defeated humanity because of the commitments he must abide by in order to support his family. Though Gregor is horrified by his unexpected transformation, he comes to accept his condition and modify his attitude to fit the situation. Technology And Social Disconnection From Everyday Life Not a wired culture, but a virtual cultural that is wired shut: compulsively fixated on digital technology as a source of salvation from the reality of a lonely culture and radical social disconnection from everyday life (Doheny Farina, 1996). The mobile telephone has been the most rapidly disseminated piece of technology in world history. The first commercially available mobile devices were available in the 1980 s, and since then have expanded exponentially. In 1994, Finland was the world leader in terms of mobile subscribers with ten percent of the population being hooked on a mobile contract (Wirzenius, n.d.). Over the past twenty years, these numbers have increased beyond one s imagination. As of January 2014, ninety percent of American adults own a cell phone and over half of those own a smartphone (Pew Research Center s Internet American Life Project, 2014). These numbers will only increase with time as in a survey conducted by Pew Internet (2014) ninety eight percent of adults between the ages of eighteen to twenty nine own mobile devices with numbers decreasing slightly as the population aged. As our culture begins to shift more into the digital revolution age we find ourselves losing vital communication skills in person to person contact. Essay on Social Control Theory vs. Social Learning Theory Social Control Theory vs. Social Learning Theory Abstract Social control theory and social learning theory are two theories that suggest why deviant behavior is chosen to be acted upon by some individuals and not others. Both take a different stance on the issue. Social control theory suggests people s behavior is based on their bonds to society, if they have strong bonds to society they conform and if not they have a tendency to act out or become involved in criminal or deviant behavior. Social learning theory suggest that through vicarious learning people learn from observing others and based on what the observe make the choice of whether to copy those actions to obtain desired results or chose not to if ... Also to achieve many of these goals it is very helpful not to participate in delinquent behavior because it is looked upon negatively and could hinder the achievement of the goals. The third element in Hirschi bond to society is involvement. Involvement in this theory is simply the level of participation an individual actively pursues in conventional activities. Some of the activities this could include are social events, sports teams, school clubs, religious organizations, family events, or simply a job. These types of activities keep people busy and provide less time to participate or get caught up in delinquent behavior. This is especially the case for adolescents as they are highly influenced by peers who may not lead them to the best choices on how to spend their time, which could lead to deviant behavior (Simons, Simons, amp; Wallace, 2004, p. 21). The fourth and final element is belief (Simons, Simons, amp; Wallace, 2004, p. 21). Parents and teachers can play an important role in children s lives by teaching them right from wrong, moral issues, and the basic rules and laws of society. How the child comes to understand, accept, and believe in these concepts will determine how he or she acts. If the child believes in these rules and laws and accepts them he or she is more likely to follow the law and less likely to partake in delinquent behavior, the opposite holds true if he or she does not believe in the rules or do not care or fear the ... Many women today have the wrong idea of what the perfect body is, since there is no such thing as a perfect body. Every person is different and there can be no perfect . • 12. Differences Between Grounded Theory And Narrative Analysis Grounded theory Is a qualitative approach which calls for simultaneous data collection and analysis to generate a theory during the research process. A theory emerges inductively through the systematic data collection and analysis pertaining to a given phenomenon (Strauss Corbin, 1990). This has two fundamental characteristics which include: theoretical sampling and constant comparative analysis. A grounded theory is generated by themes which emerge from the data during analysis, capturing the essence of meaning drawn from varied contexts and situations Theoretical sampling, this involves data collection for comparative analysis (Glaser Strauss 1967). (UK essays. November 2013) we start the report by discussing the leader member exchange theory. Leader Member Exchange Theory, also called LMX or Vertical Dyad Linkage Theory, explains how leaders in groups maintain their position through a series of tacit exchange agreements with their members . In this theory there are 3 qualities of the leader follower collaborations were analyzed by the LMX such as locus of control, need for power, and self esteem. Elaine and Jacqueline were growing up in a condominium facing Lake Ontario in downtown Toronto on Queen s Quay Boulevard. Their parents, Dennis and Roberta, were both lawyers. Elaine was fourteen and Jacqueline was sixteen. The lagoon in question was located at Hanlon s Point, next to the Toronto Islands. It is built like a man, but it looks like a fish. It stands upright with what looks like legs, but it is scaly and has sharp teeth like a shark and claws instead of hands. The parents warnings seemed silly to Elaine and Jacqueline. Both girls thought it would be fun to explore the lagoon. One day, Elaine and Jacqueline were watching on television an old movie called The Lagoon Creature. The so called creature, the mysterious man fish, was half amphibious, half human, and resembled the creature their mother had told them about. Elaine was squirming with fear, although Jacqueline was laughing. Do you actually believe in these creatures? Elaine asked Jacqueline. No, I don t, Jacqueline answered. The story on TV is made up, just like our parents keep telling us there is a man built like a fish in the lagoon. Our friends from school walk around the lagoon all the time. I have never heard stories from them about an amphibious creature. They would laugh at this story. The next day, it just so happened that Dennis and Roberta were relaxing around the condominium s swimming pool. Elaine and Jacqueline decided to go down to Eaton s Centre, but as they left their condominium building to get the Harbourfront bus to Union Station, they decided to take the bus in the opposite direction to the lagoon, which was located near the Toronto Islands. • 20. Cakeout Dagoie Saloon Analysis The piece Stakeout by The Tango Saloon effectively uses instrumentation, harmony and rhythm to convey character in the song. The prominent use of organ in the piece contributes to the songs tense, foreboding character. The dissonance created by the organ and the use of a rotary speaker creates a thick, unnatural and disturbing timbre. The character of the song is also conveyed using auxiliary percussion. The ostinato arpeggio played on the xylophone in the chorus, along with the tubular bell strikes, shakers and heavy toms convey this character. The use of harmony in the piece is one of the main elements that creates character in the piece. The song focuses heavily on the harmony associated with the ii chord in the song s key of C minor; ... • 22. Monroeville Real Life A Real Life Maycomb Harper Lee wrote To Kill a Mockingbird about a little Alabama town called Maycomb. What is interesting is how Maycomb compares a lot to the town that Ms. Lee grew up in, Monroeville, Alabama. The history of Monroeville and the way it was in the 1930s makes a reader wonder if Ms. Lee took her hometown and made it the famous small town in the novel. By looking back to the history of Monroeville s founding, the way it was in the 1930s, the way it almost mirrors Maycomb and the way it is it today, one can see that Ms. Lee s used her experiences to create one of the most famous towns in literature. And the introduction of the Europeans into the Ibo society is no different, although in this case, it was more beneficial than detrimental to the Ibo. Enoch, a character in Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart accepts the Western ideas, and changes when his identity is tested, which evinces that a change in culture has potential to be advantageous. To begin, Enoch s response to the conflicting European culture turned out to be positive. One way his response is empathetic is his acceptance of the new religion. In the novel, this is shown when the narrator explains, These outcasts, or osu, seeing that the new religion welcomed twins and other such abominations, thought that it was possible that they would be received (Achebe 155). Enoch s acceptance of the new religion gave him the chance to start over. Another way Enoch s response is positive is his willingness to learn and help others grow. According to Jean Watson The future of nursing is tied back to Nightingales sense of calling guided by a sense of commitment and covenantal ethic of human service; cherishing our phenomena, our subject matter and those we serve. It is when we include caring and love in our work and our life we discover and affirm that nursing, like teaching is more than just a job but a life giving and life receiving career for a lifetime of growth and learning (Watson, J. 1978). Dossey states Consciousness is not confined to an individual body, an individual mind may affect not just their body but also other people around them (Dossey,L. nd). • 26. Comparsion of Sandra Cisneros´ Barbie-Q and Annie Chopin´s... In Sandra Cisnero s short story Barbie Q, a Barbie doll is used to portray the author s inner struggle to achieve perfection, and how her young age and innocence clouds her identity. Throughout the text it is very clear that the author, a young girl, had come from an underprivileged family and faced the issues many families of lower socioeconomic background typically face. In the short story it is also evident that her gender plays a massive role in damaging her self esteem and confidence, as both the media and the author s social background have continuously portrayed women as weak, powerless figures. Similarly, in The Story of an Hour by Annie Chopin, the protagonist, once again a female figure represented the life of domesticity a woman is expected to hold by society. Although Chopin s story was written in the late 1800s and Barbie Q is a very modern story, both depict the protagonist females as very helpless, incapable figures that trail after the overpowering men. In the second paragraph of Barbie Q, the author speaks from a first person perspective while describing how she typically plays pretend using her dolls. The narrator explains to the reader that, Your Barbie is roommates with my Barbie, and my Barbie s boyfriend comes over and your Barbie steals him, okay? Kiss kiss kiss. Then the two Barbies fight. You dumbbell! He s mine. This text openly reveals how the young author, who presumably has not even reached her teen years yet, has been deeply ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Alaska Lng Project, A Pipeline I am writing to you in response to the proposed Alaska LNG project, a pipeline that stretches from the North Slope to the small community of Nikiski, Alaska, that you are currently supporting as chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural resources committee (Alex Martinson, 2015). Please realize that I am not an expert in this matter but simply a concerned citizen who would regret to know that negative environmental and community effects would result from the construction of facilities associated with a natural gas pipeline and production. Allow me to start by saying that this state and the Kenai Peninsula community, are very important to me. I have lived in Nikiski, Alaska for the past 11 years, and I would sincerely hate to see this community and state polluted by large scale LNG production and transportation if it could be avoided. I also realize the positive economic outcome for the state of Alaska as well as the U.S. as a whole. However, do these fiscal gains constitute enough incentive to potentially disrupt natural environments and put Alaska s citizens at risk? Consider the Trans Alaska Pipeline and crude oil transportation that is currently in place from the North Slope to the Valdez Marine Terminal. Many oil spills have occurred since it began transportation in 1977 such as the one that occurred in 2006 that went undetected for days resulting in 267,000 gallons of crude oil escaping into the environment (Barringer, 2006).
