Greek Myths And Stories Serve A Greater Purpose
Greek myths and stories serve a greater purpose than to simply entertain someone. These stories also
serve as a way to teach important lessons and explain the history of certain things.
Although the Epic of Gilgamesh, The Illiad,The Ramayana, and the Golden Compass are all very
different they all have similar aspects that connect the stories and serve a greater purpose. These
myths and stories serve as an insider into what it was like to live in that specific society. Myths allow
us to learn what was not only expected of the citizens but also what was considered normal during this
time.Myths teach us important life lessons and practice that instill better characteristics in those that
hear them. Even thousands of years later these stories continue to influence our society and help to
shape future generations to come. The Epic of Gilgamesh gives a great insight into the culture and
society of Mesopotamia. This epic serves as a way to show the progress human nature makes over
time. For example, in the beginning of the story, Gilgamesh wasn t the best person, he was hated by a
lot of people. the men of Uruk muttered their houses,...His lust leaves no virgin to her lover, neither the
warrior s daughter nor the wife (Gilgamesh,2).This quote shows how the citizens aren t happy with
Gilgamesh. Throughout his journey he was able to progress and become a better person with the help
of Enkidu, Bitterly Gilgamesh wept for his friend (Gilgamesh,21)this quote shows how with Enkidu

Diagnosing A Sore Throat Case Study Essay

19 August 2015
Diagnosing a Sore Throat Case Study In the early morning hours on a Sunday, a worried mother
brought in a 22 month old child to the emergency room. The young girl was exhibiting signs of a
common cold, including a low grade fever and runny nose that had been persisting for the last 48
hours. The child also had a hoarse cough and forced, noisy breathing. Her larynx was raw and swollen
and she had mucus coating her red throat. Upon examination, the pediatrician also noticed mild
inflammation of the ears and cloudy eyes. A rapid Strep test performed on the child came back
negative, and a warm vaporizer helped to alleviate her difficulty breathing.
My initial belief was that the child might be exhibiting signs of strep throat. However after the
physician was able to perform a rapid Strep test, which produced negative results, I felt it was best to
further investigate the symptoms occurring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adenoviruses represent the largest non enveloped or naked viruses at 75 nanometers and have 252
capsomeres that contribute to its icosahedral capsid structure (Doerfler 1996). The virus particle has
spikes on the base of each capsomer that aid in attachment to the host cell. At the core of the virus is
double stranded linear DNA that replicates in the nucleus of the host cell. Adenovirus infection is a
communicable disease and transmission of the adenovirus particle occurs in two general ways. The
virus can be spread in airborne droplets that are released when an infected person sneezes or coughs.
The virus can also be transmitted by contact with an infected object or fomite. Adenovirus is unusually
stable in adverse chemical, physical and pH conditions and can survive for a prolonged period of time
outside of a host cell (Adenoviridae 2015). In rare instances, the virus can also be spread through
contact with fecal

The Use Of Symbolism In Dandelion Wine By Ray Bradbury
I am Doug Spaulding. Ray Bradbury may have chosen Doug to be the twelve year old protagonist in
Dandelion Wine, but I am convinced that Bradbury took a pencil and paper to my childhood. Part of
the reason why Doug s character resonates with me so much stems from Bradbury s use of symbolic
language. Because symbolism leaves the audience to interpret the text s meaning, every reader draws a
different interpretation of the text based on his or her own personal experiences. By picturing the
experience associated with Bradbury s imagery, the reader gains a deeper understanding of the story.
Bradbury effectively utilizes symbolism in Dandelion Wine to aid the audience in perceiving the text s
significance and to impart the messages that form the novel s overall theme. Bradbury reveals Doug s
youthful nature in the form of animals, allowing the reader to visually imagine Doug s mental and
physical characteristics. After Doug becomes aware of his existence, Bradbury writes, Douglas, eyes
shut, saw spotted leopards pad in the dark (10). When Doug opens his eyes, Bradbury states, The
leopards trotted soundlessly off through darker lands where eyeballs could not turn to follow (10).
From a twelve year old s perspective, leopards seem like the fastest and scariest animals in the world.
The reader envisions the leopards and gathers that Doug s realization of his existence struck him
unexpectedly, leading him to be justifiably frightened. When Doug opens his eyes, the leopards

Military Diet Research Paper
The Military Diet is a popular fad diet that purports to help people lose up to 10 pounds in three days.
Though the diet is not endorsed or written by the actual military, it is believed to have originated from
a military officer who used it to lose weight quickly while training. The diet is based on the idea that
certain foods burn more calories when eaten in a specific combination with one another. The foods
must be eaten exactly as described in the diet plan in order for rapid weight loss to occur. The strict
eating plan is followed for 3 days, with a four to five day rest afterward. During the rest period, users
should eat no more than 1,500 calories per day. The Diet The exact diet that is recommended is

The Scorch Trials Themes
In the book, The Scorch Trials, the main characters Thomas and Teresa are friends who help each
other get through some difficult times. Sticking together and friendship are important themes
throughout the book. There were a lot of tragic and scary things that happen and because the friends
stuck together, they were able to get through them. Throughout this book, there are a lot of themes but
one good one, in particular, is that true friends stick together until the end. There are a lot of examples
of this because there were so many hardships where the kids stuck together. One of these examples is
when Minho goes out into the storm to get Thomas up and saves his life. Then someone was grabbing

Why I Want To Be Cheer Essay
The moment I knew I wanted to do cheer the rest of high school was during fishbowl. While I was
cheering to the loud, enthusiastic crowd, I had realized I was much happier cheering on the sidelines
than in the stands, or anywhere else. I just wanted to be cheering because cheer is very fun, and I love
everything about being on the team. It values team building and highly emphasizes school spirit. I am
very dedicated and excited about cheer because it involves skills that I naturally pick up on quickly
and/or I can work on in a fun, yet ambitious way. What makes a good team member is someone who
looks out for everyone and is there for you no matter what. Someone who is always willing to help out
the team and team mates individually as well.

How Does Faust Have An Effect On German Language
Classic words can influence those who read, and even those who write. For example, the iconic play
Faust. Written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in 1776, Faust is based off of an old Germanic legend,
but Goethe himself used his real life experiences to flesh out the titular character in his book. As a
result, Faust has become a very culturally important and influential drama that has had such an impact,
it has even changed the German language. Von Goethe s drama, Faust, is a drama with strong themes
referring to man s dissatisfaction with the world, as the main conflict involved a man selling his soul
to a demon to achieve everything he could not attain himself.
To begin, Faust s characterization of the main character, is inspired by Wolfgang ... Show more

The influence of the book has even been stated as little less than the bible (Carus). The bible has
shaped most of human existence, so for the books impact to be so important, it s influenced many
things. The German language for example, has many phrases, such as Des Pudels kern , which
translates to the core of the poodle . In the book, a poodle appears following Faust, and the poodle
eventually becomes Mephistopheles, a demon. It means the real nature of something within, which
alludes to that scene in Faust every time it is mentioned. It shows how truly impactful Faust to the
German language and lore. While Goethe s Faust may be very popular and important, the story he
wrote is not the ONLY interpretation. Several other authors have written books, symphonies, and
plethoras of forms of art based on the story behind Faust. The lore, originating around the 13th
century, the legend of Faust is about a man making a deal with the devil to receive otherworldly
powers to satisfy his humane needs. He is so dissatisfied with his knowledge, he wants more, and this
is very much like the interpretation Goethe wrote (Boyle). The story itself has spawned over 100
interpretations (Faust).
In conclusion, Faust by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is a very famous drama not only because of the
brilliant writing. The author uses his own life to inspire the characters emotions, and in addition to
this, the famous tale behind it helped it gain

The Importance Of Hair Designs In Ancient Egypt
The ancient Egyptians were one of the first world civilizations to exist on our planet being the first to
set parameters. I often wonder if they knew they were the first. When they were creating things such
as the toothbrush and the calendar did they feel like they were inventing for all of humanity? Or, were
they just creating things based on their needs in the present moment not realizing the impact it would
have on the Africa and beyond? After my research, I found out that they were the original creators of
one of my deepest passions the art of barbers. The ancient Egyptians believed that being clean shaven
was a sign of good hygiene and class. This belief inspired them to create sharp stones that would trim
their hair; by advancing this technology they were able to carve out the first barbershop industry in
world civilization. The deep desire of intricate hair designs or braids, short hair or shaven heads, or the
desire for hair wigs organically led to the need of tools that could revision their hair. In research done
by W. Flinders Petries describes the relationship of hair design in ancient Egypt by stating, There were
periods when the head was clean shaven, others when it was left to grow, cropped short or worn
shoulder long or even longer by both men and women. Egyptians invention of the first barber tools
begin 6,000 years ago where nobles crafted their barber tools out of sharpened flint, shell, or stone. As
time continued the tools continued to become more

Reporters Should Be Free Summary
In the first passages, I believe Brent Cunningham is trying to argue and important part about the
reporter s work, which is the let them write what they know. Cunningham stated that reporters should
be free . In this statement, I believe he was trying to tell the people to let reporters be free to write
what they know and not be effected by the pressure from the society. He also said that reporters should
write without the fear of being slapped with a bias charge ; in this way, the reporters will be more
liberal on the topic they chose and even be interest to dig more into it. I do believe in the idea
Cunningham suggested. The reporters should be free from the pressure from the society, so they can

For a long period of time, Malapropisms have been used in...
For a long period of time, Malapropisms have been used in literature in order for a character to feign
ignorance, such as in Sheridan s play, The Rivals and is based off of a character in the play named
Mrs. Malaprop. In the play, Mrs. Malaprop would use words incorrectly. For example, Mrs. Malaprop
would substitute the word reprehend for aprehend . However, this feigned ignorance is now known as
a speech error termed by psycholinguistics and can happen when words are substituted by an
individual, even though the individual might know what the target word should be. In this essay, the
theory of how malapropisms are lexicalized will be discussed in terms of the structure of the mental
lexicon used in producing and understanding speech. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first is semantic substitutions and the second is form based substitutions which are also known as
word substitution errors that are phonologically based; also known as malapropisms. (Harley, 2008)
These two speech errors suggest that the process of word production and word comprehension are
contained in one lexicon, but from opposite directions. The aruement, according to Fay and Cutler in
the article Malapropisms, Left to Right Listing, and Lexicalism is that there is a single lexicon for
word production and comprehension.
Fay and Cutler argue that the reason for there being only one mental lexicon for word production and
word comprehension is that, much like a dictionary, words are listed in accordance to their
phonological sound and semantic meaning in the dictionary, therefore they are listed the same way in
an individuals mind (Fay and Cutler, 1977, p. 505 ). Thus, meaning being closely related to sound in
an individuals lexicon, the comprehension of a word is retrieved phonologically and each sound
relates to a particular meaning, therefore when an individual hears the beginning of a phonological
sound, the list in their mental lexicon retrieves the closest sounding word in relation to the word
semantically produced, even though the word has no semantic relation in accordence to its meaning
(Fay and Cutler, 1977, p. 506 ). In other words, the target word an individual searches for in

Initial Diagnosis And Treatment Plan Process
Initial Diagnosis and Treatment Plan Process
Listening to a client during an initial session and applying reflective listening techniques
can put you in the mindfulness moment with the client. By being a mindful listener as a therapist,
I believe it helps with being able to diagnose your client more accurate. It is important to have a
system or flow of questions during your intake process, so it can provide the clinician with viable
information regarding that client and their concerns, from there you can create a specific treatment
plan. Without a client rapport, it is difficult to effectively counsel someone because people don t
like to listen or talk to other people they don t trust, therefore, building a rapport with your client
is important. Not only is building a rapport important for a counselor, but we must rely on our
interviewing skills to obtain valuable information. From intake to completion of treatment, the
intake interview is typically when the treatment association begins between the client and the
counselor. At the same time during the intake process, there is a large amount of personal data
that can be collected thru a general checklist of question including symptoms that can help with
diagnosing the client. When initial meeting between the client and counselor one can start off with
the two basic greeting questions:
1. How are you feeling today?
2. What brings you in today?

Sex And The City Motherhood Essay
Motherhood in America is something that takes a lot of work and dedication and can be considered a
full time job. Sex and the City, black ish, and Jane the Virgin are three examples that present
motherhood in different lights. In the movie Sex and the City portrays motherhood as something no
women can do alone. In black ish it shows a dream world where a mother can work a full time job and
still be able to be around for her kids. Compared to these unrealistic forms of media, Jane The Virgin
shows the true struggles of raising a baby. It shows how it takes a village to raise a baby and how
motherhood is not always sunshine and rainbows. Using Radical Cultural Feminism and Materialist
Feminism, displays ways in which motherhood is depicted in these three films in order to reveal the
struggles and overall rewarding experience of being a mother. When viewing Sex ... Show more

One view of the Materialist Feminist is that women are taught to see their bodies as commodities. This
is very true in Jane The Virgin concerning Petra. They would have liked that Petra uses her body to get
what she wants and to get where she wants to be. Her mother is always mentioning about how her
beauty is what is important and what will get her through life. In Season 1 episode 5 Petra s mother
says about how her skin is so dry and that she needs to take care of it. She then tells Petra that your
beauty is your weapon. Petra has been raised to use her body has a commodity. The system of Petra
using her body as a commodity to get ahead is bad. But, she is never alienated from her intellectual

bodies as commodities and not trusting their intellectual abilities. Petra may use her body to get what

The Star Wars Franchise remains as one of the most influential science fiction franchises up to the

been experimented on and quite a number of flaws have been brought up by those who have

very important to understand and perfect leadership skills. He always tells me, Everyone has a leader
hidden in them, our goal should be to find our inner leader and enhance those qualities to try to
survive in the real world. The disadvantage of living in India is that the education system is not built
in a way to find your inner leader, it s all about textbook learning and writing exams. There is no

Essay On White Privilege
The central argument expressed by Marcus is that white privilege is not a result of a political agenda
as was previously stated by Tim Wise, but rather a psychological one. He goes on to say that because
the issue is not based on policy, the government cannot legislate it. He explained that, almost all
scientific evidence produced to describe the nature of any individual based on race is bunk also adding
that, only when everyone views snap judgments about individuals based on race as the absurd
equivalent of such judgments based on hair or eye color, will the great moral victory over bigotry be
won (Marcus). I agree with the author that white privilege is spread by individuals and not based on
policy. However, I disagree that white privilege ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The definition of white privilege is important because some white people deny it s existence.
According to Peggy McIntosh it is an invisible package of unearned assets, which I (Peggy McIntosh)
can count on cashing in each day, but about which I was meant to remain oblivious. White privilege is
like an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions maps, passports, code books, visas, clothes,
tools, and blank checks (McIntosh, 1988). Often times, white people sees the benefits of white
privilege as those belonging to the elites, celebrities and politicians but not to the regular working
class white Americans. When in fact this privilege is bestowed upon every white person regardless of
whether or not they choose to take advantage of it. Not to say that all white people are born with silver
spoons in their mouths or that they get everything handed to them on a silver platter. The issue here is
that white people enjoy certain privileges that minorities should but do not. For example, a white
person does not have to worry about getting pulled over by the police while driving a luxury car and
be asked to prove ownership because of the color of their skin. They do not worry about being
followed by security while they shop for fear they might steal something. They do not have to deal
companies refusing to hire them or housing discrimination. There s a saying that one can not see the

The Work Of Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs, though mostly known for being the co founder and CEO of Apple, was also the founder of
another computer software company called NeXT, as well as the man who brought Pixar, a computer

manipulates technology. If you have seen Pixar produced films, such as Toy Story or Monsters, Inc. ,
Jobs had a direct impact on those films. Steven Paul Jobs was undoubtedly the most significant person
in the journey to making home computers accessible to everyone. Living in San Francisco, Joanne

while Paul was a machinist and Coast Guard veteran. Growing up, Jobs spent a lot of time in the

change the world forever. In elementary school,, Steve was always a bit more advanced than that of

crises that threatened their ability to control and govern in Russia. The response and resolutions to
these crises included Initial Reforms, Treaty of Brest Litovsk, Civil War, Red terror, War Communism
and the NEP. Under the leadership of Lenin, the execution of these responses were made possible and
the Bolsheviks were able to maintain and expand their power. The Civil War however was the direct

The Civil war was devastating for Russia economically and socially, the Bolsheviks consolidated their
power and there was no more military threat from their opposition. The Civil war was vital to the
consolidation of power however it was only possible through the execution of War communism. War
communism was an economic policy the Bolsheviks had created to meet the demands of war from
1918 1921. It forced manpower to either be directed to the Red Army or to the industry. It also
confiscated all grain and food and allocated it to where it would be most productivity towards the war
effort. The implementation of War Communism enabled the Red Army to be supplied with both food
and weaponry and industrial workers to be fed. This was effective in allowing the Bolsheviks to
maintain and effectively fight the civil war without the lack raw materials. David Christian believes
that War Communism was essential as it supplied towns and armies with enough food and supplies to
keep providing war material to keep fighting . Although War communism was effective towards the
war effort it also significantly damaged the economy. The economy of Russia was shattered, there was
a food shortage, fuel shortage and money had absolutely no value. The rouble was only worth 1% of
its value in 1918, 10million died of starvation and agricultural output was 60% of pre war levels. War

Hamlet And Ophelia Do Not Believe In Hamlet
Hamlet was written during a time of religious conflicts. The people of (figure out where they are from)
were living in confusion of what was real and what wasn t. William Shakespeare took this conflict and
created the famous play Hamlet. He created this to help people feel secure with what they believed in,
whether it was different from their neighbor s idea, or family members. Crediting Shakespeare for his
creativity of bringing forward insanity into the play brings a portrayal of what people could believe
and what others may not believe. At the end of the play, we see Hamlet s true feelings for Ophelia.
Comparing Hamlet and Ophelia, by observing their relationship, and seeing their similarities, could
one say they were meant to be? Crediting Shakespeare for his creativity of bringing forward insanity
into the play brings a portrayal of what people could believe and what others may not believe.
Analyzing Hamlet s and Ophelia s relationship, felt as if it were to be forbidden. Why is this? In the
beginning of the play, Act 1, Scene 3, Laerates and Ophelia had a conversion about Hamlet. Laerates

Analyzing the conversation of the ghost of Hamlet s father with Hamlet, Hamlet is pleaded to seek
vengeance for his father death. Hamlet swears to this plead causing him to pretend he has gone insane.
With Hamlet knowing the information the ghost told him, he began to speculate his mother s
relationship with Claudius. Did she help Claudius kill his father? Did Claudius kill Hamlet s father to
be with Gertrude? Hamlet felt pain and betrayal thinking this, causing him to actually become insane.
His insanity fabricated him to believe he was betrayed by his mother, coming to a sense of Ophelia
potentially hurting him as well. One can understand his questioning on women since he felt betrayed

Introduction:
Significant postoperative pain following major surgical procedures for breast cancer is a common and
well known complication which may lead to a lot of negative consequences as more hospital costs

A Social Examination On The Cold War
Brittany O Neill
May Paper
Elaine Tyler takes a social examination on the war against communism in the book, Homeward
Bound: American Families in the Cold War Era. May portrays the idea that the nuclear family
structure was a way to amplify resistance against communism. The exterior threat of communism
during the postwar and the Cold War era caused for interrelationships within marriages to become a
longer and more stable environment. Compared to the previous book we read as a class, May takes a
deeper look into history and finds geopolitical reasoning for the events of the postwar age. The
interpersonal that May connects to the Cold War era allows for the reader to gain a broader concept of
how society affected change.
First within each book read this semester, each author takes a unique view on the Cold War. In John
Gaddis s The Cold War: A New History, Gaddis takes a series of books on the Cold War, condenses
them and is able to give a fresh synopsis of the Cold War. His topics are broad and give a clear
overview of the Cold War. He looks upon the leaders of the Cold War, including Joseph Stalin, Ronald
Reagan, Nikita Khrushchev and others to find reasoning on the outcome of the Cold War. His story
looks at the foreign policies of each country and dissects reasoning for the events that occurred during
the time.
In comparison to John Gaddis, May s book has more social and domestic view on the Cold War.

The American Revolution
The American Revolution was one of the most important decisions in the United States History. It was
a political upheaval, which happened between 1765 and 1783. In this time, the rebel colonists, which
were in the Thirteen American Colonies, rejected the aristocracy and the British, Monarchy
overthrowing the Great Britain authority. They then founded the United States of America. The battles
of concord and Lexington signified the beginning of a war between the British and the colonists. The
reason of the American Revolution was the fact that the members belonging to the American colonial
society rejected the British Parliament authority intended to tax them. They resisted the British
attempts, which had now been renewed intended to collect duties on commodities such as molasses
and sugar that had gone for many years uncollected through widespread colonists smuggling.
There was an ideology behind the American Revolution. The ideological movement was identified as
the American Enlightenment. It was a critical precursor to the then American Revolution. The main
ideas that encompassed the American enlightenment included the concepts of liberalism, fear of
corruption and republicanism. The breakthrough of the movement came with the continued awareness
of the movements to the Americans. Due to this awareness, the growing number of American colonists
accepted the concepts. The acceptance hence began to foster a movement of intellectuals, which

Chinese Generation Gap Analysis
The generation gap between Chinese immigrant parents and their children stems from social and
cultural differences. Cultural Chinese norms are extremely different from traditionally American
cultural norms which leads to children having to deal with parental expectations. There are largely
pronounced differences when it comes to goal orientation and success as explained by Zhou, many
immigrant parents have a very one dimensional approach when it comes to education and see it as the
only route for guarantee success in the future (Zhou, 478). Views on the ways to achieve goals varies
greatly between immigrant parents and their children that are born in the United States, ultimately
leading to conflict. The generation gap relies heavily the perception national origin and culture and
therefore greatly affects social structure within immigrant families by placing extreme pressure of the
children of Chinese immigrants through the need to succeed in America; neither generation is familiar
with or understanding of the same norms or values. In terms of the larger social and cultural
structures, a big factor for Chinese immigrant families is their neighborhood and the ethnoburbs,
which are ethnic enclaves, within them. Within this neighborhood context, Chinese immigrants are
able to use resources and build communities that in turn helps manage the contention that surrounds
the generation gap. By enrolling in program with children of similar background, the children of

Bronze Casting among the Ruins
Starting in the ancient cities of Mesopotamia, bronze sculptures have been discovered in these ruins
(Sturgis). Many more were discovered in the decorated tombs of the Chinese emperors, the discovered
towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum, making a great influence on the Renaissance period (Sturgis).
Bronze sculptures during this period came to the vanguard of art. However, many centuries had passed
before the necessary tools were created to make bronze casting easier during the nineteenth century of
the Industrial Revolution (Sturgis). Because of these utensils, bronze casting sprang to the top of the
art world again. In recent times, Paris is known for their bronze sculptures since the middle of the
nineteenth century. Factories for bronze casting leapt to the top in Paris in order to cast editions of
bronze sculptures for the hundreds of artists who specialized in bronze (Sturgis). Paris became the
place to go to in order to study this renowned style and have their own sculptured edited to bronze
(Sturgis). This desire for the artistic fascination caused creations of many bronze sculptures whose
beauty and majesty outshines the sculptures of modern times (Sturgis). Paris in the middle of the
nineteenth century held the peak of captivation of this form of art. Bronze casting differed from city to
city, century to century; however, they all followed some of the basic steps to sculpting ( Bronze
Sculpture ). First an artist would have to model the sculpture by using a range

The Global Wine Industry
The Global Wine Industry:
The grape has been around for more than thousands of years, and so, with time, it was inevitable that
humans would discover wine and use it for many purposes. Grapes were found thousands of years
ago, when humans started living in caves and became hunter gatherers. However, agriculture
dominated after those humans moved beyond the hunting gathering stage and into an era of growing
and harvesting grapes and then turning these grapes into wine. Humans throughout these ages desired
wine for its effect on the body and the essence it provides and even in all history, especially in the
Greek history and the romans, wine was dedicated to the gods for a good harvest and riches.
Wine which was considered a simple and a limited drink became an industry of its own generating
millions in profit and having a huge consumer base with different tastes and aspirations. The changes
as well as the differences in the age groups who are becoming the major markets for wine producers
have created visible and different market trends that cannot be ignored. These trends also affect the
global market, as well as economies of many Counties that rely on the wine industry for profit.
In an industry such as wine, where there are many variables such as the type of soil and grapes, ageing
process used, price and quality, it is natural to expect a variety of suppliers. The wine industry is so
heavily broken down that, that there cannot be one leading firm and also these leading

The Importance Of Our Thoughts
Our thoughts also are too numerous to count sometimes. Have you ever had an opportunity or a time

Nothing was conclusive. You just kept going from one thing to the next. You were being bombarded
with all of these different thoughts and you could not concentrate on anything. Understand this; the

Cultural Comparisons of India and China
NATIONAL CULTURE OF CHINAAND INDIA IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF HUMAN
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Introduction
1. Increased business globalization, emergence of new economic hubs like BRIC countries (Brazil,
Russia, India and China) as well as more intense competition among organizations at the domestic and
international level alike over the past two decades, have necessitated the need for studies in the
comparative Human Resource Management (HRM) (Budhwar amp; Sparrow, 2002a). As a result, a
growing number of conceptual (Aycan, 2005; Edwards amp; Kuruvilla, 2005) and empirical studies
(Bae, Chen, amp; Lawler, 1998; Budhwar amp; Sparrow, 2002b; Easterby Smith, Malina, amp; Yuan,

Hall describes context as the information that surrounds an event. In high context societies, the
situation, the external environment and non verbal cues are crucial in the communication process.
However, this approach fits much better with a generic concept of culture, in the sense of a broad
cultural community such as Arabs, Latins or Chinese, than with the constrained boundaries of a nation
state, where individual and organizational diversity allows for a pluralistic coexistence of both low
and high context.
9. The work of Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck (1961) offers another useful framework to understand
cultural differences. Viewing culture as a set of assumptions and deep level values regarding
relationships among humans and between humans and their environments, Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck
proposed four basic value orientations, which can be further divided into sub dimensions to capture
the complex cultural variations across societies. The major orientations in their model are human
nature (evil, mixed, good), man nature relationship (subjugation, harmony, dominant), social relation
with people (hierarchical, collateral, individual), human activity (being, becoming, doing), and time
sense (past, present, future). The cultural orientation framework has been adopted by researchers to
explain variations of HRM practices across countries (e.g., Aycan et al., 2007; Nyambegera et al.,

Essay on The Cost of Redemption in the Lord of the Rings
The Cost of Redemption in the Lord of the Rings The struggle between good and evil is an ever
present theme of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The struggle exists in all of Middle earth, as the
followers of Sauron wage war against the realms of free men and their allies, as well as in individual
characters. Boromir, a tragic hero of Tolkien s work has essentially good qualities marred by his
corrupt desires for power and the Ring. The character of Gollum has an on going internal struggle
between the part of him that is corrupted by the Ring and his originally innocent self, Smeagol, who
struggles to be good. However, as long as good and evil both exist, redemption is also possible. If
Gollum, for example, was portrayed as only evil, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Boromir has both the strange gleam of greed and evil in his eyes, while still possessing the same kind
appearance, demonstrating the conflict within himself. He has good intentions in desiring the Ring to
help Middle earth, but his actions are evil. Gollum is another character who demonstrates an internal
struggle between good and evil. He, too, has been corrupted by the Ring, and his dual personalities,
Smeagol and Gollum, continually debate with each other. According to one scholar, The Ring exerts a
terrible attraction simply as a possession. It fosters an all consuming and wholly selfish personal
indulgence. This has been its effect on Gollum and this is what he represents (Thomson 52). Smeagol
has been corrupted by the allure of the Ring into a selfish being, yet there is still a good part of him
that wants to help the hobbits as he argues with himself saying, But Smeagol said he would be very
very good. Nice hobbbit! (Tolkien 398). Gollum presents a very clear example of struggling between
choosing what is right and wrong. An article analyzing morality within the Lord of the Rings states,
The pathos of Gollum s internal struggle during his journey with Frodo is an obvious example, and for
many readers the fact that The Lord of the Rings can rise to such moral and psychological complexity
is one of the most decisive proofs of the work s greatness (Rosebury 13). Tolkien s presentation of

I Am Silent As A Mouse
Bang! There was a loud boom sound as the dinner plates shattered. I stood silent as a mouse. I did not
know what to say or do. My children Sam and Elle; both aged 12, just asked me about ww2. For you it
could just be history but for me; a Jewish woman named Beth Smith is my past. Yes, my past! I
thought for a minute or two, how long could i hide the horrific truth. Well, they were old enough to
know about the grandparents. Quickly I gathered them both to tell them my story. My terrifying past!
Just before I began I felt a shiver just like 30 years ago. A shiver where it all started...
It began with you grandparents and me hiding from the Germans. Behind the bookshelf was a
camouflaged, pale, white door where I and my family used to hide for protection. However, one foggy,
windy, cold day the Germans started to destroy everything that was in the house and found us! I still
remember when the door banged opened and the bullets flied like a rocket to the ceiling. Loudly, they
shouted surrender or face the terrible consequence! before we surrendered ourselves and started to
walk I had the family hug. A hug that I yearn for. As time rushed fast, 8 hours later I reached at the
dull, muddy, petrifying camp. The camp that most people talked about. The camp that crumbled
people s lives...
As soon as we got there I got spilt up with my parents. I could never live without my parents, I just
don t know how I finally managed. It felt like my own blood ripped apart from me. I could only see

The Postcolonial Theory Of Third Cinema
One of the most popular and important film theory s that it still around today is Third Cinema also
known as the Postcolonial theory. Third cinema emerged in early 1960 through the 1970 s in Latin
America and was seen as a militant tool leading to freedom and a revolution. Third cinema was not
only about films rather it was about literature and artwork as well as political manifestos written by
filmmakers. The whole idea behind third cinema is that it refers to the colonized, neo colonized, or
decolonized nations and minorities of the world whose economic and political structures have been
shaped and deformed within the colonial process (Stam, 93). Third Cinema had emerged mainly from
the Cuban Revolution during the 1950 s but was influenced by different movements including Italian
neorealism and direct cinema and different tools and techniques that the world had not been exposed
to yet. Third cinema rejected the normal conventions of Hollywood as these films were being
produced in second and third world countries. For these filmmakers, it was all about guerilla
filmmaking, which meant that they would often be creating low budget films using a handheld camera
with smaller film crews than usual. These films would often use montage as well as different
combinations of sounds and images in order to get audiences to think about the film and what
messages it was trying to relay. Since it was all about politics, these filmmakers were not aiming to get
rich or gain fame

  • 2. Greek Myths And Stories Serve A Greater Purpose Greek myths and stories serve a greater purpose than to simply entertain someone. These stories also serve as a way to teach important lessons and explain the history of certain things. Although the Epic of Gilgamesh, The Illiad,The Ramayana, and the Golden Compass are all very different they all have similar aspects that connect the stories and serve a greater purpose. These myths and stories serve as an insider into what it was like to live in that specific society. Myths allow us to learn what was not only expected of the citizens but also what was considered normal during this time.Myths teach us important life lessons and practice that instill better characteristics in those that hear them. Even thousands of years later these stories continue to influence our society and help to shape future generations to come. The Epic of Gilgamesh gives a great insight into the culture and society of Mesopotamia. This epic serves as a way to show the progress human nature makes over time. For example, in the beginning of the story, Gilgamesh wasn t the best person, he was hated by a lot of people. the men of Uruk muttered their houses,...His lust leaves no virgin to her lover, neither the warrior s daughter nor the wife (Gilgamesh,2).This quote shows how the citizens aren t happy with Gilgamesh. Throughout his journey he was able to progress and become a better person with the help of Enkidu, Bitterly Gilgamesh wept for his friend (Gilgamesh,21)this quote shows how with Enkidu ... • 3. Diagnosing A Sore Throat Case Study Essay Carly Fazio Dr. Algevis Wrench Microbiology 19 August 2015 Diagnosing a Sore Throat Case Study In the early morning hours on a Sunday, a worried mother brought in a 22 month old child to the emergency room. The young girl was exhibiting signs of a common cold, including a low grade fever and runny nose that had been persisting for the last 48 hours. The child also had a hoarse cough and forced, noisy breathing. Her larynx was raw and swollen and she had mucus coating her red throat. Upon examination, the pediatrician also noticed mild inflammation of the ears and cloudy eyes. A rapid Strep test performed on the child came back negative, and a warm vaporizer helped to alleviate her difficulty breathing. My initial belief was that the child might be exhibiting signs of strep throat. However after the physician was able to perform a rapid Strep test, which produced negative results, I felt it was best to further investigate the symptoms occurring ... Adenoviruses represent the largest non enveloped or naked viruses at 75 nanometers and have 252 capsomeres that contribute to its icosahedral capsid structure (Doerfler 1996). The virus particle has spikes on the base of each capsomer that aid in attachment to the host cell. At the core of the virus is double stranded linear DNA that replicates in the nucleus of the host cell. Adenovirus infection is a communicable disease and transmission of the adenovirus particle occurs in two general ways. The virus can be spread in airborne droplets that are released when an infected person sneezes or coughs. The virus can also be transmitted by contact with an infected object or fomite. Adenovirus is unusually stable in adverse chemical, physical and pH conditions and can survive for a prolonged period of time outside of a host cell (Adenoviridae 2015). • 4. The Use Of Symbolism In Dandelion Wine By Ray Bradbury I am Doug Spaulding. Ray Bradbury may have chosen Doug to be the twelve year old protagonist in Dandelion Wine, but I am convinced that Bradbury took a pencil and paper to my childhood. Part of the reason why Doug s character resonates with me so much stems from Bradbury s use of symbolic language. Because symbolism leaves the audience to interpret the text s meaning, every reader draws a different interpretation of the text based on his or her own personal experiences. By picturing the experience associated with Bradbury s imagery, the reader gains a deeper understanding of the story. Bradbury effectively utilizes symbolism in Dandelion Wine to aid the audience in perceiving the text s significance and to impart the messages that form the novel s overall theme. Bradbury reveals Doug s youthful nature in the form of animals, allowing the reader to visually imagine Doug s mental and physical characteristics. After Doug becomes aware of his existence, Bradbury writes, Douglas, eyes shut, saw spotted leopards pad in the dark (10). When Doug opens his eyes, Bradbury states, The leopards trotted soundlessly off through darker lands where eyeballs could not turn to follow (10). From a twelve year old s perspective, leopards seem like the fastest and scariest animals in the world. The reader envisions the leopards and gathers that Doug s realization of his existence struck him unexpectedly, leading him to be justifiably frightened. When Doug opens his eyes, the leopards ... Though the diet is not endorsed or written by the actual military, it is believed to have originated from a military officer who used it to lose weight quickly while training. Sticking together and friendship are important themes throughout the book. There were a lot of tragic and scary things that happen and because the friends stuck together, they were able to get through them. Throughout this book, there are a lot of themes but one good one, in particular, is that true friends stick together until the end. There are a lot of examples of this because there were so many hardships where the kids stuck together. While I was cheering to the loud, enthusiastic crowd, I had realized I was much happier cheering on the sidelines than in the stands, or anywhere else. I just wanted to be cheering because cheer is very fun, and I love everything about being on the team. It values team building and highly emphasizes school spirit. I am very dedicated and excited about cheer because it involves skills that I naturally pick up on quickly and/or I can work on in a fun, yet ambitious way. • 8. How Does Faust Have An Effect On German Language Classic words can influence those who read, and even those who write. For example, the iconic play Faust. Written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in 1776, Faust is based off of an old Germanic legend, but Goethe himself used his real life experiences to flesh out the titular character in his book. As a result, Faust has become a very culturally important and influential drama that has had such an impact, it has even changed the German language. Von Goethe s drama, Faust, is a drama with strong themes referring to man s dissatisfaction with the world, as the main conflict involved a man selling his soul to a demon to achieve everything he could not attain himself. To begin, Faust s characterization of the main character, is inspired by Wolfgang ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The influence of the book has even been stated as little less than the bible (Carus). The bible has shaped most of human existence, so for the books impact to be so important, it s influenced many things. The German language for example, has many phrases, such as Des Pudels kern , which translates to the core of the poodle . In the book, a poodle appears following Faust, and the poodle eventually becomes Mephistopheles, a demon. It means the real nature of something within, which alludes to that scene in Faust every time it is mentioned. It shows how truly impactful Faust to the German language and lore. While Goethe s Faust may be very popular and important, the story he wrote is not the ONLY interpretation. Several other authors have written books, symphonies, and plethoras of forms of art based on the story behind Faust. The lore, originating around the 13th century, the legend of Faust is about a man making a deal with the devil to receive otherworldly powers to satisfy his humane needs. He is so dissatisfied with his knowledge, he wants more, and this is very much like the interpretation Goethe wrote (Boyle). The story itself has spawned over 100 interpretations (Faust). In conclusion, Faust by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is a very famous drama not only because of the brilliant writing. The author uses his own life to inspire the characters emotions, and in addition to this, the famous tale behind it helped it gain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Importance Of Hair Designs In Ancient Egypt The ancient Egyptians were one of the first world civilizations to exist on our planet being the first to set parameters. I often wonder if they knew they were the first. When they were creating things such as the toothbrush and the calendar did they feel like they were inventing for all of humanity? Or, were they just creating things based on their needs in the present moment not realizing the impact it would have on the Africa and beyond? After my research, I found out that they were the original creators of one of my deepest passions the art of barbers. The ancient Egyptians believed that being clean shaven was a sign of good hygiene and class. This belief inspired them to create sharp stones that would trim their hair; by advancing this technology they were able to carve out the first barbershop industry in world civilization. The deep desire of intricate hair designs or braids, short hair or shaven heads, or the desire for hair wigs organically led to the need of tools that could revision their hair. In research done by W. Flinders Petries describes the relationship of hair design in ancient Egypt by stating, There were periods when the head was clean shaven, others when it was left to grow, cropped short or worn shoulder long or even longer by both men and women. Egyptians invention of the first barber tools begin 6,000 years ago where nobles crafted their barber tools out of sharpened flint, shell, or stone. • 10. Reporters Should Be Free Summary In the first passages, I believe Brent Cunningham is trying to argue and important part about the reporter s work, which is the let them write what they know. Cunningham stated that reporters should be free . In this statement, I believe he was trying to tell the people to let reporters be free to write what they know and not be effected by the pressure from the society. He also said that reporters should write without the fear of being slapped with a bias charge ; in this way, the reporters will be more liberal on the topic they chose and even be interest to dig more into it. I do believe in the idea Cunningham suggested. The reporters should be free from the pressure from the society, so they can write what they know and not be fear from ... • 11. For a long period of time, Malapropisms have been used in... For a long period of time, Malapropisms have been used in literature in order for a character to feign ignorance, such as in Sheridan s play, The Rivals and is based off of a character in the play named Mrs. Malaprop. In the play, Mrs. Malaprop would use words incorrectly. For example, Mrs. Malaprop would substitute the word reprehend for aprehend . However, this feigned ignorance is now known as a speech error termed by psycholinguistics and can happen when words are substituted by an individual, even though the individual might know what the target word should be. In this essay, the theory of how malapropisms are lexicalized will be discussed in terms of the structure of the mental lexicon used in producing and understanding speech. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first is semantic substitutions and the second is form based substitutions which are also known as word substitution errors that are phonologically based; also known as malapropisms. (Harley, 2008) These two speech errors suggest that the process of word production and word comprehension are contained in one lexicon, but from opposite directions. The aruement, according to Fay and Cutler in the article Malapropisms, Left to Right Listing, and Lexicalism is that there is a single lexicon for word production and comprehension. Fay and Cutler argue that the reason for there being only one mental lexicon for word production and word comprehension is that, much like a dictionary, words are listed in accordance to their phonological sound and semantic meaning in the dictionary, therefore they are listed the same way in an individuals mind (Fay and Cutler, 1977, p. 505 ). Thus, meaning being closely related to sound in an individuals lexicon, the comprehension of a word is retrieved phonologically and each sound relates to a particular meaning, therefore when an individual hears the beginning of a phonological sound, the list in their mental lexicon retrieves the closest sounding word in relation to the word semantically produced, even though the word has no semantic relation in accordence to its meaning (Fay and Cutler, 1977, p. 506 ). • 12. Initial Diagnosis And Treatment Plan Process Initial Diagnosis and Treatment Plan Process Listening to a client during an initial session and applying reflective listening techniques can put you in the mindfulness moment with the client. By being a mindful listener as a therapist, I believe it helps with being able to diagnose your client more accurate. It is important to have a system or flow of questions during your intake process, so it can provide the clinician with viable information regarding that client and their concerns, from there you can create a specific treatment plan. Without a client rapport, it is difficult to effectively counsel someone because people don t like to listen or talk to other people they don t trust, therefore, building a rapport with your client is important. Not only is building a rapport important for a counselor, but we must rely on our interviewing skills to obtain valuable information. From intake to completion of treatment, the intake interview is typically when the treatment association begins between the client and the counselor. At the same time during the intake process, there is a large amount of personal data that can be collected thru a general checklist of question including symptoms that can help with diagnosing the client. When initial meeting between the client and counselor one can start off with the two basic greeting questions: 1. How are you feeling today? 2. What brings you in today? • 13. Sex And The City Motherhood Essay Motherhood in America is something that takes a lot of work and dedication and can be considered a full time job. Sex and the City, black ish, and Jane the Virgin are three examples that present motherhood in different lights. In the movie Sex and the City portrays motherhood as something no women can do alone. In black ish it shows a dream world where a mother can work a full time job and still be able to be around for her kids. Compared to these unrealistic forms of media, Jane The Virgin shows the true struggles of raising a baby. It shows how it takes a village to raise a baby and how motherhood is not always sunshine and rainbows. • 15. I Am A Sophomore Pursuing Management Engineering I am currently a sophomore pursuing Management Engineering with a concentration in Mechanical Engineering. I have spent majority of my life in Mumbai, India. Living in Mumbai taught me that life is not fair and you need to be one step above the others to succeed. Mumbai is the most populated city in India with a population of around 12 million and everyone out here wants to leave an impact on the world, hence it s called the city of dreams in India. I grew up in a small family of four people but we met our extended family every weekend. Everyone in my family is a leader in their own way. My dad runs a Dubai based shipping company in India, my uncle runs a pharmacy company and my mom takes care of the house and office files. Since the very beginning my dad has told me about how it is very important to understand and perfect leadership skills. Essay On White Privilege The central argument expressed by Marcus is that white privilege is not a result of a political agenda as was previously stated by Tim Wise, but rather a psychological one. He goes on to say that because the issue is not based on policy, the government cannot legislate it. He explained that, almost all scientific evidence produced to describe the nature of any individual based on race is bunk also adding that, only when everyone views snap judgments about individuals based on race as the absurd equivalent of such judgments based on hair or eye color, will the great moral victory over bigotry be won (Marcus). I agree with the author that white privilege is spread by individuals and not based on policy. However, I disagree that white privilege ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The definition of white privilege is important because some white people deny it s existence. According to Peggy McIntosh it is an invisible package of unearned assets, which I (Peggy McIntosh) can count on cashing in each day, but about which I was meant to remain oblivious. White privilege is like an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions maps, passports, code books, visas, clothes, tools, and blank checks (McIntosh, 1988). Often times, white people sees the benefits of white privilege as those belonging to the elites, celebrities and politicians but not to the regular working class white Americans. When in fact this privilege is bestowed upon every white person regardless of whether or not they choose to take advantage of it. Not to say that all white people are born with silver spoons in their mouths or that they get everything handed to them on a silver platter. The issue here is that white people enjoy certain privileges that minorities should but do not. For example, a white person does not have to worry about getting pulled over by the police while driving a luxury car and be asked to prove ownership because of the color of their skin. They do not worry about being followed by security while they shop for fear they might steal something. They do not have to deal companies refusing to hire them or housing discrimination. The Civil war was vital to the consolidation of power however it was only possible through the execution of War communism. It also confiscated all grain and food and allocated it to where it would be most productivity towards the war effort. The implementation of War Communism enabled the Red Army to be supplied with both food and weaponry and industrial workers to be fed. In high context societies, the situation, the external environment and non verbal cues are crucial in the communication process. However, this approach fits much better with a generic concept of culture, in the sense of a broad cultural community such as Arabs, Latins or Chinese, than with the constrained boundaries of a nation state, where individual and organizational diversity allows for a pluralistic coexistence of both low and high context. 9. The work of Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck (1961) offers another useful framework to understand cultural differences. Viewing culture as a set of assumptions and deep level values regarding relationships among humans and between humans and their environments, Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck proposed four basic value orientations, which can be further divided into sub dimensions to capture the complex cultural variations across societies. The major orientations in their model are human nature (evil, mixed, good), man nature relationship (subjugation, harmony, dominant), social relation with people (hierarchical, collateral, individual), human activity (being, becoming, doing), and time sense (past, present, future). The struggle exists in all of Middle earth, as the followers of Sauron wage war against the realms of free men and their allies, as well as in individual characters. Boromir, a tragic hero of Tolkien s work has essentially good qualities marred by his corrupt desires for power and the Ring. The character of Gollum has an on going internal struggle between the part of him that is corrupted by the Ring and his originally innocent self, Smeagol, who struggles to be good. He has good intentions in desiring the Ring to help Middle earth, but his actions are evil. Gollum is another character who demonstrates an internal struggle between good and evil. He, too, has been corrupted by the Ring, and his dual personalities, Smeagol and Gollum, continually debate with each other. According to one scholar, The Ring exerts a terrible attraction simply as a possession. It fosters an all consuming and wholly selfish personal indulgence. This has been its effect on Gollum and this is what he represents (Thomson 52). Smeagol has been corrupted by the allure of the Ring into a selfish being, yet there is still a good part of him that wants to help the hobbits as he argues with himself saying, But Smeagol said he would be very very good. An article analyzing morality within the Lord of the Rings states, The pathos of Gollum s internal struggle during his journey with Frodo is an obvious example, and for many readers the fact that The Lord of the Rings can rise to such moral and psychological complexity is one of the most decisive proofs of the work s greatness (Rosebury 13).
