American Voting Patterns, By Angus Campbell, Philip...
American voting patterns is often a topic studied by numerous people for a variety of reasons.
Whether it is to gain an advantage in an election or trying to predict the outcome of an election, the
study of American voters has always been researched. The American Voter Unabridged Edition, by
Angus Campbell, Philip Converse, Warren Miller, and Donald Stokes, is regarded as the model for
conducting voting research. The scope of the book is astounding, ranging from the political parties
to the psychology of individual voters, the book laid the foundation for further voting examination.
The objectives of the research project had a variety of aims. One was to understand the voting
decisions of the national electorate in the manner that transcends some of the specific elements of
historical circumstance. Within the primary motive for their research, they wished to find the
political impact of identification with social class and to find out the voters preferences based on
psychological determinants. There were numerous ways they could have conducted their research;
however, they stuck to a few parameters that they listed in the introduction to the book. First, the
book voting behavior that occurred in the United States alone. Second, they focused on the
presidential electionsand the electoral process. They included numerous factors, including the
human element, Voting choice is an act of individual human beings, and the collective decisions of
a state or national

My Experience Of High School Experience In Middle School
When I was in middle school, I was on the quiz bowl team. The tournaments were nonchalant, the
questions were manageable, and the teams all competed to have a good time, not just to
advance. Due to the enjoyable nature of my middle school experience, I decided that I would
brave the unknown murky waters of high school scholars bowl. I was under the assumption that
it would be the same for the most part; however, this assumption was severely misguided.
Strolling into the classroom for my first day of practice, I realized I was surrounded by people
who seemed to be far more knowledgeable than me. A prime example would be Macy Davis.
Sitting at the front of the room, Mr. Kucharik was manning the buzzer system. Frightened because I
was a young naГЇve freshman, I hesitantly sat down as rumor led me to believe that Mr. K
despised freshman. The practice was not at all what I expected and was demanding to say the
least. Asking us impossible college level questions, Mr. Kucharik seemed to love watching us
struggle; furthermore, the man was sadistic as he transitioned from questions such as What kind
of clouds produce thunderstorms? to questions about novels that I d never even heard of. After
attending several practices, at which I performed horribly every morning, we finally participated
in our first tournament of the year. My first time ever leaving the school with Mr. Kucharik did
not go the way I hoped it would. For example, when we first arrived in the parking lot outside of

Thomas Jefferson And George Washington Compare And Contrast
Thomas Jefferson and George Washington were very paramount to the success of colonial
America in the Revolutionary War. Despite both being very excellent leaders, they were both very
different; Jefferson resided on political issues while Washington preferred working with actual
conflict. George Washington liked to be in the thick of things, in the heat of battle. He would often
ride out into the middle of gunfire on a trusty stead with little to no hesitation. His bravery was
astonishing, but what was even more incredible was his military strategizing and planning. He
maintained strict regiment over all soldiers under his jurisdiction, rarely losing any battles.
Jefferson, however, was very different.
Thomas Jefferson may have lacked the bravery

Sister Aloysius Teaching Styles In The Play Doubt
Doubt: Teaching Styles The importance of our future is dependent on teachers molding the minds
of the future. In the play Doubt: A Parable Sister Aloysius and Sister James are the catholic nuns
that teach the students and they have apposing teaching styles both could be helpful in several
ways. Children are very impressionable the way that teachers treat them and how they are taught
can be a very influential factor in their brains development. A teacher who might be more strict
and proper might influence some kids to later are very adherent to the rules which can be positive
when looking for work in the real world, on the other hand a teacher who is lenient and kind could

In the play there are a good number of examples of Sister Aloysius s teaching style such as when
she said, The students really should only be learning script from a fountain pens. Always the
easy way out these days. What does that teach? Every easy choice today will have it s
consequence tomorrow (Doubt: A Parable act 2). Although Sister Aloysius has a good point it
can also be said that her teaching styles can lead to children becoming very introverted never
going outside of their comfort zones for fear of reciprocation. Sister James is the complete
opposite of Sister Aloysius she is kind, innocent to the world, and a very caring teacher who
wants to get involved with the children s life to better help them learn and grow as an
individual. Sister james truly loves her class as read in the play, Flynn: Like you care about
your class! You love them, don t you? Sister James: Yes. Flynn: That s natural. How else would
you relate to children? I can look at your face and know your philosophy: kindness (Doubt: A

Stereotyping In Mulan
In 1998 Disney released the action packed movie Mulan. Mulan is strong female lead that doesn t
fit the typical dainty Disney princess. How could it not be feminist? Hidden (or not so hidden)
throughout the film, Mulan is littered with traditional gender stereotypes. Based on the premise,
songs and other comments, I have determined that on the surface Mulan seems to be feminist, but
underneath it is filled with damaging ideas to men and women.
Gender Stereotyping In Men:
I ll Make a Man Out of You ? One of the most iconic songs of Mulan, I ll Make a Man Out of You
brings stereotypes for men and women. Problems begin with the title. The title I ll Make a Man
Out of You is immediately suggestive of what a man should be. Li Shang describes

Essay on Les Miserables
Victor Hugo made it so that the characters in Les Miserables progressed throughout the novel. The
theme progress can be seen and used widely. Three main characters, Jean Valjean, Cossette, and
Javert expressed positive and negative forms of growth.
Jean Valjean began the story as an ex convict who was searching for food and shelter after working
in the galleys for sixteen years. Unfortunately, he failed to receive compassion from any lodging, or
home. While he was wandering through the streets after been rejected so many times, quot;he came
to the prefecture then to the seminary. On passing by the cathedral square he shook his fist at the
church quot; (22). Through this discrete action, it was clear how he had felt toward the church. ...

Valjean s turning point of growth begins after the last words the Bishop shareswith him. You
belong no longer to evil, but to good. It is your soul that I am buying from you. I withdraw it
from dark thoughts, and from the spirit of perdition. I give it to God! (39) The reader is aware
of the obvious change in Valjean s life, as his identity was changed twice (Monsieur Madeline,
and Monsieur LeBlanc) to hide away from his past convict life. Eventually, Jean Valjean was
faced with a dilemma. He had to make a choice between the death of an innocent man (who is
accused of being the convict, Jean Valjean), and his own fate of hiding once again. The only
thing that stood in the way for him to make a rational choice, was his promise he made to
Fantine (a lower class, ill fated prostitute). That is, to take care of her daughter after she died. He
expressed goodness from then on in every aspect of the novel. By keeping his promise to Fantine,
saving an innocent man s life, not redeeming Javert from his position as inspector (considering he
denounced him Jean Valjean before admitted), and not killing Javert when he could have (even
though Javert continued to chase him down since he possessed Cossette). Because of the Bishop s
compassion for Valjean, it influenced Valjean to lead on a better, forgiving life. Jean Valjean started
out as a resenting convict, but progressed through letting go of the past,

Food Inc Documentary Analysis
Food Inc.: Health on the Downfall due to Dirty Business Big businesses play a major role in all
aspects of government and have managed to get a patent on life, meaning that they can control the
way people live. What better way to control the lives of citizens then to create laws controlling the
way foodis produced and manufactured. In the food documentary, Food Inc, produced by Robert
Kenner there is a discussion and display about the way food is made and how it has affected both
the citizens and the way that big businesses have corrupted the agricultural and meat industry. The
documentary goes through various ways that business have caused farmers to produce crops and

Throughout the interview the farmer discusses how Tyson will require her to update her farms
in order to increase production and require her to pay for it which cause her to go into to more
debt. A statistic given by the documentary states that, a farmer pays around $500,000 to open 3
chicken farms, and the average chicken farmer makes around $18,000 per year. This statistic
given in the documentary goes to show how the companies like Tyson maximize profit by
outsourcing the work where they do have to pay the expenses of operating the farms. Along with
the endless debt that is piled up there are countless side effects that come from growing the
chickens and operating a chicken farm. Side effects like diseases, becoming immune to
antibiotics, and the filth that surrounds the operation of a chicken farm. The debt that farmers
accumulate gets to such a large number that there is no way out of the business and must deal
with being connected to their company. With all the upgrades that are demanded by big poultry
companies like Tyson or Perdue, and, between 2004 and 2006 chicken farmers spent over $650
million on upgrades to their chicken farms, an average of $38,000 per farm. This debt that is
racked up is taking out by loans that farmers must pay back to the banks with no assistance from the
big poultry companies. Though the

Superiority In The Iliad
In the Homer s The Iliad, each soldier s main aspiration is to go down in history as a fierce
defender of their country. To achieve this status, they must exhibit unceasing bravery and
persistence to a higher degree than all other warriors. However, while attempting to build an
image of fortitude, soldiers are forced to rid themselves of all humanity they possess. To maintain
an image of superiority over their peers, fighters are required to constantly intimidate and degrade
those around them. Commanders of the war use this same method of terrorization by insulting
their soldiers and using their men s fear of death to assert authority over their armies. In order to
be accepted by their leaders, warriors are expected to take countless lives... Show more content on

As every battle presents a daunting challenge, leaders constantly find their armies exhausted and
weary from the hardships of war. While attempting to raise their men s moral, commanders often
threaten their soldiers with the thought of gruesome death. Leaders intimidate their soldiers in
order to maintain their authority and make it clear that they expect each man to fight their
hardest. As the Trojans are being pushed back by the Greeks, Hector asserts his power over his
men by saying to them, If I catch any man hanging back on this side/ He s dead on the spot with
no family funeral (15. 355). Commanders often use their renowned reputations to build an image
of superiority over their soldiers. Since the leaders are distinguished warriors, they use this
credibility to terrify their men and force them to remain allegiant to the army. While the Trojan
army approaches the Greek trench, Hector uses his renowned reputation to control his men by
telling them that if they are lagging during battle they will lose [their] life at the point of [his] spear

Does Harper Lee Present The Prejudicial Issues In To Kill...
Harper Lee s To kill a Mockingbird explores the prejudicial issues which plague over the town
Maycomb. Harper Lee uses the trial of Tom Robinson a black man accused of rape on a young
white girl, Mayella as a central theme to portray the prominence of racial discrimination in
Maycomb. The racial prejudice is also widely shown through the characterisation of Atticus. Having
Scout as the narrator allows Harper Lee to highlight the gender inequity through a youthful
unbiased perspective. The chauvinistic attitudes and prejudiced views of most of the town s folk
leaves Maycombs social hierarchy in an unfair order, victimising many of the town s people due to
their socially non conforming habits some socially unaccepted people including Boo... Show more

Harper Lee demonstrates the gender inequity In to Kill a Mockingbird through the description and
words of the female narrator, Scout. The prejudice of Maycomb is shown so clearly, even an
innocent child like Scout can see the raging extent of gender prejudice that surrounds her. Scout
having traits that are more masculine in quality automatically makes her an outcast and disliked
by Maycomb s many conforming ideals. Scouts innocence allows the novel to develop through
an unbiased perspective. Women had little to serve in juries and there was the constant
expectation all women had to act and dress like a Lady. Aunt Alexandra an evident example of
having strong beliefs on how separate genders should behave, constantly scolding Scout for
wearing her overalls and behaving too tomboyish. I was not so sure, but Jem told me i was being
a girl, that girls always imagined things, thats why other people hated them so, and if i started
behaving like one i could just go off and п¬Ѓnd some to play with. (4.119) Scout is raised to
believe boys were better than girls, raised in a bigoted and heavily bias community, scout п¬Ѓnds it
a difficult and unfair experience trying to understand the unjust perceptions of the adults around
her. Having Scout narrate the whole novel allows Harper lee to highlight the gender inequity in
Maycomb.
Harper lee demonstrates the social inequity through Boo characterisation and Maycombs peoples
rigid behaviours and socially discriminating codes.

Reflection about the movie Good Will Hunting
I chose to write about the movie Good Will Hunting because it shows how one s life,
relationships and future are ruined because of repression and not believing in one s self. The
main character of the movie is Will Hunting. He is a twenty year old MIT janitor. Will decided to
take revenge on someone who used to abuse him in the past, and physically assaulted him which
led to his arrest. He suffered a terrible childhood as he grew up as an orphan in various foster
homes where he struggled from physical abuse. Luckily for him, Will got the attention of a
brilliant MIT professor who was curious about his gifts. He managed to get the judge to let Will
go with the condition of him visiting a psychologist. Will started to receive support and a caring
environment as he started dating a gifted pre med student who became his girlfriend and gave him
the opportunity of experiencing love. He also received the support from his psychologist who

In my humble opinion, the environment is what draws the line between people giving up on life
and people fighting their way out. I imagine myself in Will s situation where nothing is going
right, I don t make enough money to live, I don t goals, and most importantly I do not believe in
myself. Now here s where the environment should step in and support me and tell me that I am
worth something, and that I am capable of doing great things and that I should believe in myself.
The support of the environment will change people s lives because it is what incentivized all great
men in history to accomplish all those achievement. Behind every great man, a great woman this
quote explains how can the support of a wise hardworking and caring mother could lead her boy to

Racism In America Today
Today, minorities face a problem many have suffered for hundreds of years. That problem is
racism. It s in the news, social media, and all around our world. Racism is the belief in the
superiority of one race over another. We always hear that our world is changing every day, but is it?
Majority of us know the basics of racism and who it was well known upon in America s past;
African Americans. Slavery is a big part of African Americanhistory and is an important issue
taught in school. After the civil war, many African Americans were either arrested or forced back
into slavery as a way rebuild the economy. Later, the film Birth Of A Nation was released and was

one of the initial scenes, which interrupts the process of Persian man (Fahad) and his daughter

foreshadows something terrible to later come. The next use of foreshadowing, came from the

Christopher statuettes. As St. Christopher is known as the patron saint of travels, these statuettes in
culture are typically placed on car dashboards and carried with one. As a representation of faith, in
the belief of divine power to protect oneself with safe travel. In the film the statuettes most
powerfully connect with run away now gangster/hijacker Peter Waters. Each time after hijacking a
car, he places his statuette on the dashboard, for Peter his statuette and this act represents his good

chuckling at. Something else funny? Oh yeah. So, what s that? Just people, man . As for Peter

audience, this moment has deep meaning showing the connection of faith between the two

The Success of The Simpsons Essay
The Success of The Simpsons
In recent years, a certain animated sitcom has caught the public s attention, evoking reactions that
are both favourable and unfavourable, but hardly ever apathetic.
As a brilliant, socially aware satire, Matt Groening s The Simpson s has effectively stirred different
emotions from different factions of the culturally deadened American populace and for this alone, it
should be recognised as quality programming. The Simpsons is a brutal satire of our society and our
family structures yet it offers several redeeming qualities such as feminism, endurance and most of
all humour.

The fact that the show works on several levels at once draws a generational diverse fan base. The
adults are attracted by the surprisingly sophisticated dialogue, while the children enjoy the clumsy
antics of Homer and the traditionally cartoonish aspects of the programme.
The Simpson s themselves are a simple family in a small town in Middle America called
Springfield. They are: Homer (loyal but stupid father), Marge (dissatisfied, trapped housewife
/ mother), Bart (rebellious son), Lisa (unappreciated genius daughter), and Maggie (silent baby).
The show also revolves around a number of other characters.
The members of the family have their own quirks and are constantly feuding amongst themselves.
The hilarious show portrays the ups and downs of the Simpson s which real families are said to
relate with, to a certain to degree. The highly provocative sitcom has revolutionised cartoons and
has bought humour and mixed feelings to a new audience than previously brought before.
The fact that all the characters in The Simpsons have four fingers shows that they are all unique
and unified community despite age and race, this also makes a good statement. The skin colour is
attractive to young viewers but also has meaning to older viewers, and different parts of the show
are aimed at different audiences.

many different variations to these disorders but they share many of the same characteristics such
as: fear of becoming obese, obsession with thinness, food, weight, and even calorie counting. Of

The three main symptoms are an excessive amount of intake of food accompanied by self induced
vomiting, fasting and/or obsessive or compulsive exercise, and extreme concern with body weight
and shape. The recurrent binge and purge cycles can damage the entire digestive system and can
lead to electrolyte and chemical imbalances in the body that affect the heart and other major organ
functions. Some health consequences of bulimia nervosa are irregular heartbeats, possibly heart
failure and death, inflammation and possible rupture of the esophagus from frequent vomiting,
tooth decay and staining from stomach acids released, irregular bowel movements and
constipation. People struggling with bulimia nervosa usually appear to be of average body
weight (National). Physical appearance is not the only issue that this disease faces in people.
They also face problems with psychological, environmental and biological issues in life. Since
there is no clear way to tell which of these factors is the culprit of causing eating disorders, each
factor needs to be looked at. Environmental factors is plays one of the biggest roles in eating

with beauty? Many people are believing that the media has much to do with how people view

Luckily for the crew of the vessel was able to make it out alive and actually report their
encounter with a 100 foot wave. This trip led to finding the largest wave ever scientifically
recorded in the open ocean. The next account comes from a very reliable source, Ernest
Shackleton. Shackleton rode on a ship called Endurance; it was on this ship that Shackleton
would venture to Antarctica where he would come across a wave so large he thought he was
looking at the sky. He was lucky to have made it out alive from this storm. Casey next talks about
the 850 foot cargo ship MГјnchen, this ship was built to be unsinkable it was the German
Merchant Navy s state of the art flagship. To everyone s surprise an S.O.S. message was received
that the ship had suffered great damage from a wave. Even with 110 ships and 13 aircrafts
looking for it, it was never found. In 1933, a naval officer aboard the USS Ramapo saw a huge
wave in the Pacific and made some trigonometric calculations that estimated the wave to be about
112 feet high. On January 1, 1995 Statoil s Draupner oil drilling platform were being hit by large
waves 38 feet tall, then a huge 85 foot wave hit the rig causing moderate damage to the platform.
This was the first confirmed measurement of a rogue wave. In 1982 the Ocean Ranger was
struck by a wave which destroyed the rig and left no survivors. The rig was built to withstand
110 foot seas and 115 mile per hour winds, it was deemed indestructible. The wave that hit it took
it as a challenge and sank the whole rig instantly killing 84 people who were onboard. On March,

Child Custody In The 1970 s
Child custody have been an issue for many years but no clear rules have been established until
approximately in the 1970 s. In the early colonial years, the arrangement was unappealing to
children and their mothers and possibly doing psychologically damage. Luckily, history has
evolved and children s well being has become a priority in divorcecases. Early in the 1800 s the
father was the head of the household and this included the children. Nurturing was not in

Native American Celebrities
Are We On The Same Level?
What would happen if a group of Indians, or Native Americans had an incapable leader? What
would happen if the leader truly didn t know what he/she was doing or is a negative role model?
If only one mistake could lead to the resulting of the suffering of the whole entire tribe? That s
why we as people need to grasp, and even penalize the leaders, our celebrities at a higher standard,
or level.
Superstars whether you discern it are among the leaders of this nation. Because of their fame, they
are continually in the public eye; many people; especially children, and adolescents look up to
them for what they should do. For instance, when Miley Cyrus published her Wrecking Ball song a

starkly. Besides the result of wanting to regurgitate, can you now see why what celebrities do are

Also, seemingly people are actually lowering their (the figures) standards. To illustrate that,

The Art Of Art
Throughout history, art has changed and transformed dramatically as empires have fallen and
new civilizations have formed. There have been many different forms of art and extremely
different tastes of art based on which civilization you decide to focus on. According to this
opinion, out of all the different types of art, the highest form of art is realism. The writer then
claims how many civilizations have undergone intellectual and creative declines when creating
unrealistic art. This, of course, is simply an opinion, but the the thoughts and ideas of this writers
bring up many intriguing questions about art and how society perceives art. First, I will analyze
the writer s opinions by bringing up examples that are in agreement with his or her opinion. In a
way, I do agree with the writer s opinion in the aestheticsof realism compared to other forms of art.
For example, the early Greek marble statue of Kouros is not as appealing to me because of its
rigid form and geometric body type create this unrealistic expression of the human body. In
addition, the large eyes and archaic smile on the face of sculptureadd to the lack of realism to the
whole piece. This sculpture seems ancient and outdated because of its lack of realism to the human
world. his work can be compared to the spear bearer, or Doryphoros, that depicts the human form
with more realism. Although not perfectly realistic, this realism can be seen in improved posture of
sculpture with its praxitelean curve

Stranger Danger Research Papers
Stranger danger is a term that we learned as children in elementary school. Even though we re
taught to never talk to or trust strangers, doing so has almost become an instinct. When I walk
out to the mailbox at the end of my driveway, I m expecting to see some bills, some magazines,
and if I m lucky, something that I ordered off Amazon. Everyday we are relying on that mail
carrier not to do certain things: lose or damage any mail. Placing faith in strangers has become an
everyday event because we have to in order to have an easier and better experience on earth. Not
only do we trust strangers with our mail, but we also put them in charge of cleaning the rooms we
stay in.
To begin, we all at one point stayed at some sort of hotel. When my family checks in and we get
our room key, we are expecting to see the carpet vacuumed, the toilets scrubbed to a pristine white,
and most importantly: bedsheets that lack bedbugs and long black hairs. But knowing if the maid

When it s time to get the antifreeze filled or the oil changed or maybe a tire rotation, you pull

the engine filter needs to be replaced, and that the engine belt has gone bad. Surely, that person
will say to replace it all because the worker said to. Then we have to sit there for years just to get
your car fixed. We are trusting that the worker is tightening all the bolts and doing the imperative
repairs correctly, not just rushing to get the job done fast. Unfortunately, some people face the

Finny s A Separate Peace
In the novel a Separate Peace we find our two main characters, Finny and Gene at a boarding

a age of adolescence full of darkness and jealousy. As they are transitioning into adolescence they
are confronted with lots of new relationships, yet the way this relationships develop along the
plot of the book is the real reason this book is interesting. These boys are different in so many
ways (rules, spontaneity, sports, academics, beliefs, jealousy, backgrounds), and yet they are
drawn together in a special bond. Finny is a very strong character, his abilities in sports,
academics, and life is what helps the plot develop and show us more in depth details of the story

Silas Loss Of Faith Essay
But you may prosper, for all that: there is no just God that governs the earth righteously, but a God
of lies, that bears witness against the innocent (Eliot 14). The church bans Silas for William Dane s

Silas struggle, as well as creating a slightly empathizing tone, and a mood of injustice and slight
anger. Silas changes from a soft spoken, religiously ardent, idealist weaver to a sullen, non

Brand identity and brand image are two distinct yet interrelated dimensions of brand building.
Brand identity entails the strategic efforts of firms to assign a brand with unique characteristics in a
bid to achieve positive perceptions by target consumers (Nandan, 2005).
The ingredients of a brand are the product itself, the packaging, the brand name, the promotion, the
advertising and the overall presentation. The brand owner assembles these attributes and blends
them in a unique way.
A key to enhancing the equity of a brand is the selection of an appropriate branding strategy.
Laforet and Saunders (1999) define branding strategy as the way companies mix and match their
corporate, house, family and individual brand types for their products or services. This mix and
match of brand types generates a variety of options for the companies from which they can select a
suitable branding strategy for a product/ service. Furthermore, McDonald et al. (2001) assert that an
appropriate branding strategy is crucial as it would reinforce the desired positioning and hence
influence purchase behaviour. Unfortunately, even the best brand managers have struggled to
choose the most appropriate branding strategy, in part, due to a lack of academic clarity and

Biblical And Theological Basis Of A Transformational...
CHAPTER 4.
BIBLICAL AND THEOLOGICAL BASIS
This project provides the theological basis for developing a transformational leadership
certification. In doing so, the research related to this project has three themes that are related to
each other, the problem, purpose statements, and theological basis:
Christian Change Agent
Servant Leadership
Shalom
Christian Change Agent Most processes are developed to serve a specific objective. However,
over time any process should be reviewed for effectiveness regardless of the risk of resistance to
change. Jesus taught this concept, when he said,
Now John s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came and asked Jesus, How is
it that John s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not? Jesus
answered, How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long
as they have him with them. But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from
them, and on that day they will fast. No one sews a patch of un shrunk cloth on an old garment.
Otherwise, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse. And no one pours
new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the
wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins (Mark 2:18 22).
In order for transformational leaders, to function as Christian change agents they should try and
change the hearts and ways of thinking of people

about and preference that they prefer. Giving those people who are confuse a glimpse of what
homosexual is trying to fulfill and accomplish. The strategy is somewhat helpful to those who
wants to expose their sexual identity, but it doesn t change the fact that heterosexual are more

not everybody is able to accept homosexuality. Society still wants to follow traditional,

Violent Video Games And Aggression Analysis
Since their appearance in the market, video games are the often the subject of moral debates.
Parents are afraid they will influence their children to act out and commit crimes. Mental health
professionals worry they ll impact psychological development. In most cases, this is the result of
the need of a scapegoat. People need something to blame for the wrong they observe in the
immediate world around them. Video games follow rock n roll, comic books, and even radio in a
long list of sources of moral panic. There is no evidence to support the claim that they are, without
a doubt, the reason for violent crime in teens.
Studies into the effects of violent video games on teenage behavior stem back decades. Yet no
study has isolated video games as being the sole contributor to juvenile violence. Consumption of
video games continues to rise, while violent crimes committed by teens are in decline. Total video
game sales in the US increased 204% from 1994 to 2014. Meanwhile, murders committed by
juveniles acting alone fell 76% in that same period (1). If the claims of critics were valid, then
what should be happening is an increase in teenage crime. As ... Show more content on

The medical statistics can be very supportive to the ban of the abortion. There are several
researches that have clearly shown that there is a close relationship between the breast cancers and

The Work Of Brameld, Horton, And Freire
Names associated with Social Reconstructionism include, among others, Theodore Brameld,
Myles Horton, Morris R. Mitchel, William O. Stanley, Paulo Freire, Ismail Hakki Tonguch, Neil
Postman, and Charles Weingartner. Each of these educational philosophers have greatly shaped
the reconstruction ideologies; however, for the purpose of this paper, it was considered to
analyze the work of Brameld, Horton, and Freire. Theodore Brameld (1904 1987) is considered
to be the founder of the social reconstruction movement. The Brameld s ideas to understand
human condition were nurtured by thinkers such as Freud and Marx, as well as by sociologists
such as W. L. Warner (Thomas, 1999). Brameld s ideologies were conceived through a
curriculum experiment conducted in a rural high school in Minnesota during 1944 to 1945 (Stone,
1995). In this experiment, called the Floodwood Project, Brameld cooperatively participated with
this high school s students and teachers to answer this question: What kind of a society do we, as
young citizens, want to build for tomorrow . The students, who participated in this study, drew
characteristics of an ideal society by working from their expectations and experiences about what a
good society should provide. Brameld developed during the next two decades the outcomes in sight
of: 1) determine values through an inductive approach, 2) social policy could be understood under

Nature and nurture issue has its root far back in the seventeenth century when psychologist wanted

In his journal, (McClearn, 1993) states a research done by the Mogul emperor Akbar who reared
children in isolation to discover whether their natural religion would be Hinduism, the Christian
faith, or some other creed. This experiment was a failure: It only produced deaf mutes. The implied
assumption in these so called experiments is that environment contributes more than inheritance to
human talents: Experiences has the power to hide the inborn nature of an individual. Through this
research, we are able to understand that even though we appreciate nature, more of nurture
influences our personality and the way we behave. To understand nurture, our psychology lecture
(A.Nzangi) pointed out in one of her lecture that both gene and environment affect our behavior
and hence they can t work on their own but need each other. Nurture is the environment aspect that
builds up our behavior. Example of what the environment influences to make up our behavior are;
our character (morals and values), career choice, the language we speak, and our perception about
life (religion, social, and political aspect in life).

Analysis Of Werne Werner Herzog, Grizzly Man
I believe the common character of the universe is not harmony, but hostility, chaos and murder.
Werner Herzog, Grizzly Man
What are the bounds that bind man to earth? Is it the constant competition for the means of
survival? Or perhaps, is it mother nature that calls for a human to unify with it until death. As a
human, I sometimes question, what is the purpose of my life . It is a constant battle to find the
real reason to why humans inhabit this planet, and in many ways people get lost trying to find the
answer. Now in the 21st century humans have already exploited every resource needed to live a
life of domesticity; this excludes wild nature from daily life and makes it history. But what if
somebody decides that the ultimate essence of the human is to live barbarically? ... Show more

His focus is on Timothy Treadwell, a man who had completely devoted his life to grizzly bears.
Treadwell would leave civilization every summer for 13 years alone and eventually would be
killed by one of his fellow bears in 2003. The core to this documentary may be correlated to man s
individualism and connection to the beauty of nature. With many intervening themes Herzog
creates a masterpiece that allows the viewers to truly understand Treadwell s questionable

Comparing The Angel Of Death With The Proud King And The...
In The Angel of Death with the Proud King and the Devout Man in Arabian Nights, Shahrazad is
trying to convey the importance of faith and faithfulness to the king. In the past, he has always
overlooked the importance of religion and faith, and how it can affect the choices he makes.
Shahrazad conveys this when she tells the king the story of The Angel of Death with the Proud
King and the Devout Man. In this story, when the proud king, who does not consider himself a
devout man, is chosen by the Angel of Death, he asks for some time to take leave of his children,
family, and people. This conveys that he does not put his faith first and that this will eventually
have a negative impact on his outcome in life. The second time the Angel of Death

Learned Helplessness Is A Mental Disorder
Learned helplessness is a mental disorder that affects many people in our society. The term
learned helplessness was first used by Martin Seligman and Steven Maier in the 1960 s.
Dictionary.com defines it as a mental condition in which one becomes unable to help oneself
due to previous failed attempts at controlling one s life. This is not a genetic disorder that can be
passed down from family members, rather a learned behavior that develops due to
environmental factors. Seligman and Maier s research demonstrates how the condition occurs.
Seligman and Maier s discovery is derived from the results of an experiment based on Pavlov s
classical conditioning theory. The experiment being performed involved dogs and mild
electrical shocks. Initially, the dogs were restrained in a hammock and they would receive a
mild electric shock every time a specific sound was heard. After a conditioning period, the dogs
were removed from the restrictive hammocks and placed into boxes. The boxes did not restrain
the dogs in any manner, and they could easily jump out of the boxes in order to avoid the
electrical shock at any time. The dogs involved in this experiment never tried to escape from the
boxes. The dogs had learned in the previous conditioning that the shock was not based upon their
behavior and it was unavoidable. The dogs had developed a feeling of helplessness that had
overwhelmed their beings, that they quit trying to avoid the electrical shocks and just accepted it as

Essay about The Zebra Mussel
Populations of the zebra mussel, Dreissena polymorpha (Pallas), were first found in the Laurentian
Great Lakes in 1988 (Hebert et al., 1989). This species is native to the Caspian, Aral, and Black
Seas and the rivers that drain into them but has spread throughout Europe, principally during the
18th century. Since it is restricted to estuarine and freshwater habitats, it is presumed that it was
introduced into North America by ballast waters of transoceanic vessels. Based on the substantial
amount of genetic variation found in these initial populations, as estimated from electrophoretic
variation of allozymes, the colonization of the Great Lakeswas by a large number of immigrants and
not just a few founders... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This blockage can result in heat damage to power plants and necessitates costly removal or
replacement of intake pipes (Minchin and Moriarty, 1998).
Colonization by zebra mussels has devastating ecological impacts on native bivalves (Mackie,
1991; Haag et al., 1993), frequently driving them to local extinction. Zebra mussels readily, perhaps
preferentially, settle on native bivalves and eventually cover them over. They filter the water so
efficiently that they can lower the amount of suspended food organisms below levels needed to
sustain native unionids.
Their success in spreading rapidly and colonizing new areas is due to two features of zebra mussel
biology. Firstly, zebra mussels produce large numbers ( gt; 30,000 per female) of planktotrophic
veliger larvae which can survive for 10 15 days (Hebert et al., 1989). Such larvae are well suited
for efficient dispersal by water currents, especially in riverine systems. Additionally, they don t
require the presence of suitable host species of fish, as do native unionid larvae. Secondly, the
spread of zebra mussels is aided by their ability to attach to objects by byssal threads (the same
ability that leads to their fouling problems). Because of this ability, adult zebra mussels can attach
to and be spread by ships,

Rise Of American Theaters And Consumerist Desires
Rise of American Theaters And Consumerist Desires In the early twentieth century movies
signified modernity by becoming the most prevalent medium of culture in the United States in a
period of time where the social makeup was shifting from a predominantly middle class to working
class neighborhoods that were made up of many different communities. As a direct consequence,
nickelodeons, temporary storefront theaters, and vaudeville programs all flourished in the working
class districts. By the late 1920s, almost every large American city showed off a new picture palace,
an elaborately constructed movie theater. Moreover, with this transition from previous vaudeville
houses and nickelodeons to the rise of these so called picture palaces in the United States, new
spaces of consumerismwere forged that focused on enlightening the average spectator as movie
moguls such as the notable Samuel Roxy Rotahfel who envisioned a specific function for all
major theaters. Consequently, I would argue that these new spaces of consumerism transformed
and transfixed its audiences architecturally (looking at the physical space of the theater) and
psychologically (reading space as consumerist fantasy) in Roxy s picture palaces such as the
Family Theater and the Regent Theater and how these theaters fit into the market of mass
consumerism in creating desire as well as a release from modern societal pressures. Additionally, I
would like to explore how Roxy and his team carefully created an

What Are The Legal Issues Related To The Ford Motor Company
Memorandum TO: Jonathan Foster, Head of the Legal Analytics Department FROM: Sawyer
Folks, Business Analyst DATE: April 27, 2015 SUBJECT: Ford Motor Company Background
The Ford Motor Company has had a rather tarnished legal history. Ford got into some hot water
in the 1990s and 2000s over multiple safety scandals. One of these scandals occurred in 1996
and involved faulty ignition switches that would short and cause fires. The ignition switch
scandal then led to Ford being sued by State Farm for neglecting to release information about the
faulty ignition switches and their tendency to start fires. Perhaps the most famous Ford safety
scandal of all took place during the 1970s when Ford released the Pinto. As a consequence of a
poor design, the fuel tank was located near the cars bumper and had virtually zero protection
mechanisms in place. This design flaw led to many fatal explosions from the car being struck
from behind. Ford ended up having to pay millions of dollars in civil cases as a result of injuries
and deaths related to the design of the Pinto. Ford had to fork over $125 million dollars in
damages in just one civil case, although this was a special case. There were other cases in which
Ford executives were found innocent of any murder charges at all. There was a very diverse and
wide spectrum of cases related to the Pinto incident. Ford does not only suffer from legal issues
related to a lack of safety, but also to legal issues involving environmental

Pros And Cons Of Tariffs
Pros and Cons of Tariffs
Principles of Macroeconomics
Columbia Southern University
BBA 2401
Angelo Jones
Managing the how goods and services enter or leave this country (import/export) is an important
process that allows for us to control the economic status of our nation. Sometimes imposing tariffs
on the goods imported balances our labor cost, resources and government supported industry. A
tariff by definition is a tax or duty to be paid on a particular class of imports or exports.
Economic policy of nations and states, tariffs are tools used to control the flow of goods, services
and resources being brought into the country. The overall purpose is to create security for the
domestic industry from the imported product. These products can sometimes be less expensive to
purchase than the goods being manufactured in the local economy. (McEachern, 2015) The
government does this either stimulate or deflate trade with other countries. (Fontinelle, 2012)
There are quite a few forms of tariffs that the government may apply based on the condition of
the country s economic welfare. The pros and cons of these forms of tariffs will be reviewed.
Discussion on how these tariffs positively or negatively affects the economic stance of the
country will be displayed. Tariffs such as the ad valorem, the taxing a percentage of the value of
an item and the specific tariff or tax which is a set amount based on weight or sum of items.

Leadership Structures Used By FBC Bossier City
As a Christian the best leadership structure for the body of believers we have was given to use by
Jesus Christ. He taught us how to love (God with all our heart) and who to love (thy neighbor),
which results in us being better leaders. Naturally, each church reads the same scripture but
interprets it differently and has a different leadershipstyle as a result of that. Three church s
constitutions in particular will be the subject of discussion. I will compare and contrast the
leadership structures of the three, list positives and negatives, interpret what I see the preferred
church leadership structure and interpret what the constitutionreveals about each church.
FBC Bossier City
This the only church constitution out of the three with a leadership team that is designed
specifically for handling church matters that aren t related to the spiritual oversight. This
leadership structure is led by the key figure the pastor; he has the power to ordain those. The
pastor is the chief and al things go through him if they happen in the church he is preceding over.
Reading this constitution, I quickly noticed how it had a feel as if the pastor was the C.E.O of a
fortune 500 company. Some of the things like the leadership team and the requirements of the
pastor really gave the impression that this church was being ran more than an organization, a very

certain situations the pastor has the final say so. In my mind congregational is the most efficient
structure with a humble leadership who has high character and very

What Is The Meaning Of Red Wheelbarrow
In William Carlos William s poem, Red Wheelbarrow, he describes a deceptively simple scene
with just a few words in eight lines. The passing reader would perhaps look over the poem in just
a couple of seconds and read it off as a frivolous or nonsensical poem that most likely has no
explanation. Readers who actually look into the backstory, the form, and the meaning lying in the
poem s sixteen words, though, might discover something about the poet, and themselves also.
Williams frequently used the phrase No ideas, but in things to describe his poetry, and other poems
similar to it (Napierkowski and Ruby Overview ). The phrase could be interpreted differently
depending on the person who reads it, but the general idea that Williams is... Show more content on

The first two lines, so much depends / upon, are crucial to understanding what Williams is trying
to convey to his readers. Without those four words, the poem would be drastically different and
would perhaps have a different meaning altogether. With those two lines, though, Williams
shows that this image of the wheelbarrow is so important to him and what he lives for. This
tranquil image brings him back to his childhood and to a person he always respected. In a
journal article that analyzes the meaning of the poem, it is stated the utilitarian wheelbarrow is
transformed into an object of beauty, as worthy of careful observation and contemplation as any
piece of art ( Explanation ). This quote explains that Williams simplistic poem can be studied and
dissected just like a painting, and be translated differently by each critic. The power of simplicity
is what Williams stresses in this poem, and that the faintest memory or the fading words in a
person s head are the important things that people need to remember. The memories from a person
s childhood are not only the important ones that need to be remembered, but also the everyday
moments of a person s current life. Williams firmly believes that these memories will be the ones
that people will always find comfort

always a possibility between States that the U.S. must be aware of and prepared for. In regard to
U.S. China relations, the United Statesgoal should be to protect the freedom of navigation, prevent
any further expansion China makes on disputed territory in the South China Sea, and to hold China
under high surveillance observation. To accomplish the previously stated goals, the U.S. should
respond to China s recent assertions of naval and air power in the South China Sea through the
military initiatives of surveillance and power projection by deploying more ships to the South
China Sea to protect Asian allies and any trade traveling through the international water. Before I
lay out the benefits of the previously stated military initiatives the U.S. must utilize against China, I
will first address what actions China has taken in the South China Sea that threatens the United
States. On 20 January, 2014, it was reported by TIME that China s military spending has tripled
over a decade and that they are building a new aircraft carrier (Thompson). Currently, the only

The Five People You Meet In Heaven Analysis
The Five People You Meet In Heaven
The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom is a heartfelt story of a war veteran named
Eddie who works at the Ruby Pier. On his 83rd birthday, Eddie is killed trying to save a little girl
from the falling cart of a ride that malfunctioned. When Eddie goes to heaven, he meets five people
that tell him different things about his life and teach him lessons. Within the book, there are many
important symbols. The Ferris wheel and the ocean are two of these symbols that help contribute to
a deeper meaning of the story.
The ocean is a beautiful yet dangerous thing that represents not only destruction but new
beginnings. When Eddie met Ruby, the woman Ruby Pierwas named after, she told Eddie the
story of how the pier came to be. Her husband, Emile, was captivated by the ocean and enjoyed
seaside resorts. He ...loved the attractions, the salty food, the gypsies and fortune tellers... (115).
and once they got married, Emile promised to build a resort park just for Ruby. When the pier
burned down after a firework incident on the Fourth Of July, Emile was devastated after all the
work he put into the pier and his spirit was as broken as his body (122). The couples love for the
ocean was the initial reason the pier was built and it led to destruction. Apart from the
demolition of Ruby Pier, the ocean also led to another event of destruction. One night, Eddie
saw a man named Mickey Shea sexually harassing his mother in his own house. Mickey was a
friend of Eddie s father, and when Eddie s father came home, he chased Mickey out the house
with a hammer. They ran in the middle of a storm to the pier, and Mickey ended up rolling under
a wood railing into the ocean below. Eddie s dad jumped into the water after him and dragged
him to shore, where they both collapsed on the sand (134 136). Eddie s father ended up catching
pneumonia and his condition went from fair to stable and from stable to serious (124 25). Eddie
s father ended up dying and Eddie s life was never the same afterward. A new beginning did
sprout for Eddie out of his father s sickness, though. Eddie started his work at the pier: greasing the
tracks, repairing broken parts in the shop, and testing levers. Eddie

The first stock option plan was also introduced in 1999. Its main feature is that it is also open to
ordinary blue and white collar employees. Subscription limitation was divided according to three
groups: 1. wage and salary earners subject to collective agreements, 2. salary earners and
management not subject to collective agreements below top management, 3. top management.
Employees of the first group can subscribe for ten options, the second for 100 options, and the
third for 1,000 options. Each option gives the right to buy 10 shares. The subscription of stock
options assumed that the employee also subscribed for time asset papers. For each option
employee had to have 100 DM on his time asset paper account. Thus the time asset scheme was
supported and facilitated by means of the share option plan.
For tax reasons the time asset paper is in particular advantageous for managers. They are made
more attractive by linkage to the stock option schemes. The time asset scheme can thus also help to
solve problems of retaining personnel.
Nevertheless, tying bonuses to performances requires a detailed area specific planning and a
controlling system which did not exist except for a few pilot areas within the company. There are
also no specific performance oriented guidelines for personnel appraisal systems. It is the decision

Generation Is The Dumbest Generation
According to Mark Bauerlein, who wrote The Dumbest Generation, Millennials know absolutely
nothing and aren t capable of being intelligent. He continues to think it is the dumbest generation
and supports it with sloppy evidence. Throughout the years, people, particularly older wise people,
have declared that the generation today is the dumbest of them all and the reason for this is due to
the fact that technology is a huge part of the generation and this generation simply has it easier
which is considered bad in their eyes. A generalization like this ruins the confidence of the majority
of the generation. Of course there is always going to be some bad apples in the batch, but all of
them? Absolutely not. Generation Y is not dumb and is maybe even smarter than the last. It is one
of the most innovative and independent generations.
This generation isn t as dumb as Generation X thinks. In fact, it isn t dumb at all but it is rather
smart. It s actually quite smart that the generation finds other ways to express or find answers in
today s world. They also write much more and complex than young people in the 20th century.
Meaning that they don t just simply do or say something, they think outside the box and find
different ways to deliver what they want to do or say. According to Andrea Lunsford, a Stanford
professor, Young people today write far more than any generation before them. That s because so
much socializing takes place online, and it almost always involves

Whether it is to gain an advantage in an election or trying to predict the outcome of an election, the study of American voters has always been researched. The American Voter Unabridged Edition, by Angus Campbell, Philip Converse, Warren Miller, and Donald Stokes, is regarded as the model for conducting voting research. The scope of the book is astounding, ranging from the political parties to the psychology of individual voters, the book laid the foundation for further voting examination. The objectives of the research project had a variety of aims. One was to understand the voting decisions of the national electorate in the manner that transcends some of the specific elements of historical circumstance. Within the primary motive for their research, they wished to find the political impact of identification with social class and to find out the voters preferences based on psychological determinants. There were numerous ways they could have conducted their research; however, they stuck to a few parameters that they listed in the introduction to the book. • 3. My Experience Of High School Experience In Middle School When I was in middle school, I was on the quiz bowl team. The tournaments were nonchalant, the questions were manageable, and the teams all competed to have a good time, not just to advance. Due to the enjoyable nature of my middle school experience, I decided that I would brave the unknown murky waters of high school scholars bowl. I was under the assumption that it would be the same for the most part; however, this assumption was severely misguided. Strolling into the classroom for my first day of practice, I realized I was surrounded by people who seemed to be far more knowledgeable than me. A prime example would be Macy Davis. Sitting at the front of the room, Mr. Kucharik was manning the buzzer system. Frightened because I was a young naГЇve freshman, I hesitantly sat down as rumor led me to believe that Mr. K despised freshman. The practice was not at all what I expected and was demanding to say the least. Asking us impossible college level questions, Mr. Kucharik seemed to love watching us struggle; furthermore, the man was sadistic as he transitioned from questions such as What kind of clouds produce thunderstorms? to questions about novels that I d never even heard of. After attending several practices, at which I performed horribly every morning, we finally participated in our first tournament of the year. My first time ever leaving the school with Mr. Kucharik did not go the way I hoped it would. For example, when we first arrived in the parking lot outside of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Thomas Jefferson And George Washington Compare And Contrast Thomas Jefferson and George Washington were very paramount to the success of colonial America in the Revolutionary War. Despite both being very excellent leaders, they were both very different; Jefferson resided on political issues while Washington preferred working with actual conflict. George Washington liked to be in the thick of things, in the heat of battle. He would often ride out into the middle of gunfire on a trusty stead with little to no hesitation. His bravery was astonishing, but what was even more incredible was his military strategizing and planning. He maintained strict regiment over all soldiers under his jurisdiction, rarely losing any battles. Jefferson, however, was very different. Thomas Jefferson may have lacked the bravery ... • 5. Sister Aloysius Teaching Styles In The Play Doubt Doubt: Teaching Styles The importance of our future is dependent on teachers molding the minds of the future. In the play Doubt: A Parable Sister Aloysius and Sister James are the catholic nuns that teach the students and they have apposing teaching styles both could be helpful in several ways. Children are very impressionable the way that teachers treat them and how they are taught can be a very influential factor in their brains development. A teacher who might be more strict and proper might influence some kids to later are very adherent to the rules which can be positive when looking for work in the real world, on the other hand a teacher who is lenient and kind could influence the characteristics of a very social person who can easily... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the play there are a good number of examples of Sister Aloysius s teaching style such as when she said, The students really should only be learning script from a fountain pens. Always the easy way out these days. What does that teach? Every easy choice today will have it s consequence tomorrow (Doubt: A Parable act 2). Although Sister Aloysius has a good point it can also be said that her teaching styles can lead to children becoming very introverted never going outside of their comfort zones for fear of reciprocation. Sister James is the complete opposite of Sister Aloysius she is kind, innocent to the world, and a very caring teacher who wants to get involved with the children s life to better help them learn and grow as an individual. Sister james truly loves her class as read in the play, Flynn: Like you care about your class! You love them, don t you? Sister James: Yes. Flynn: That s natural. How else would you relate to children? I can look at your face and know your philosophy: kindness (Doubt: A Parable act 7). The teaching styles of both of them can be useful but which one is the best way to make sure that the students go on prepared and ready for the world that lies infant of ... • 6. Stereotyping In Mulan In 1998 Disney released the action packed movie Mulan. Mulan is strong female lead that doesn t fit the typical dainty Disney princess. How could it not be feminist? Hidden (or not so hidden) throughout the film, Mulan is littered with traditional gender stereotypes. Based on the premise, songs and other comments, I have determined that on the surface Mulan seems to be feminist, but underneath it is filled with damaging ideas to men and women. Gender Stereotyping In Men: I ll Make a Man Out of You ? One of the most iconic songs of Mulan, I ll Make a Man Out of You brings stereotypes for men and women. Problems begin with the title. The title I ll Make a Man Out of You is immediately suggestive of what a man should be. Li Shang describes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay on Les Miserables Victor Hugo made it so that the characters in Les Miserables progressed throughout the novel. The theme progress can be seen and used widely. Three main characters, Jean Valjean, Cossette, and Javert expressed positive and negative forms of growth. Jean Valjean began the story as an ex convict who was searching for food and shelter after working in the galleys for sixteen years. Unfortunately, he failed to receive compassion from any lodging, or home. While he was wandering through the streets after been rejected so many times, quot;he came to the prefecture then to the seminary. On passing by the cathedral square he shook his fist at the church quot; (22). Through this discrete action, it was clear how he had felt toward the church. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Valjean s turning point of growth begins after the last words the Bishop shareswith him. You belong no longer to evil, but to good. It is your soul that I am buying from you. I withdraw it from dark thoughts, and from the spirit of perdition. I give it to God! (39) The reader is aware of the obvious change in Valjean s life, as his identity was changed twice (Monsieur Madeline, and Monsieur LeBlanc) to hide away from his past convict life. Eventually, Jean Valjean was faced with a dilemma. He had to make a choice between the death of an innocent man (who is accused of being the convict, Jean Valjean), and his own fate of hiding once again. The only thing that stood in the way for him to make a rational choice, was his promise he made to Fantine (a lower class, ill fated prostitute). That is, to take care of her daughter after she died. He expressed goodness from then on in every aspect of the novel. By keeping his promise to Fantine, saving an innocent man s life, not redeeming Javert from his position as inspector (considering he denounced him Jean Valjean before admitted), and not killing Javert when he could have (even though Javert continued to chase him down since he possessed Cossette). Because of the Bishop s compassion for Valjean, it influenced Valjean to lead on a better, forgiving life. • 8. Food Inc Documentary Analysis Food Inc.: Health on the Downfall due to Dirty Business Big businesses play a major role in all aspects of government and have managed to get a patent on life, meaning that they can control the way people live. What better way to control the lives of citizens then to create laws controlling the way foodis produced and manufactured. In the food documentary, Food Inc, produced by Robert Kenner there is a discussion and display about the way food is made and how it has affected both the citizens and the way that big businesses have corrupted the agricultural and meat industry. Throughout the interview the farmer discusses how Tyson will require her to update her farms in order to increase production and require her to pay for it which cause her to go into to more debt. A statistic given by the documentary states that, a farmer pays around $500,000 to open 3 chicken farms, and the average chicken farmer makes around $18,000 per year. This statistic given in the documentary goes to show how the companies like Tyson maximize profit by outsourcing the work where they do have to pay the expenses of operating the farms. Along with the endless debt that is piled up there are countless side effects that come from growing the chickens and operating a chicken farm. Side effects like diseases, becoming immune to antibiotics, and the filth that surrounds the operation of a chicken farm. The debt that farmers accumulate gets to such a large number that there is no way out of the business and must deal with being connected to their company. With all the upgrades that are demanded by big poultry companies like Tyson or Perdue, and, between 2004 and 2006 chicken farmers spent over $650 million on upgrades to their chicken farms, an average of $38,000 per farm. • 9. Superiority In The Iliad In the Homer s The Iliad, each soldier s main aspiration is to go down in history as a fierce defender of their country. To achieve this status, they must exhibit unceasing bravery and persistence to a higher degree than all other warriors. However, while attempting to build an image of fortitude, soldiers are forced to rid themselves of all humanity they possess. To maintain an image of superiority over their peers, fighters are required to constantly intimidate and degrade those around them. Commanders of the war use this same method of terrorization by insulting their soldiers and using their men s fear of death to assert authority over their armies. As every battle presents a daunting challenge, leaders constantly find their armies exhausted and weary from the hardships of war. While attempting to raise their men s moral, commanders often threaten their soldiers with the thought of gruesome death. Leaders intimidate their soldiers in order to maintain their authority and make it clear that they expect each man to fight their hardest. As the Trojans are being pushed back by the Greeks, Hector asserts his power over his men by saying to them, If I catch any man hanging back on this side/ He s dead on the spot with no family funeral (15. 355). Commanders often use their renowned reputations to build an image of superiority over their soldiers. Since the leaders are distinguished warriors, they use this credibility to terrify their men and force them to remain allegiant to the army. While the Trojan army approaches the Greek trench, Hector uses his renowned reputation to control his men by telling them that if they are lagging during battle they will lose [their] life at the point of [his] spear (12. 255 257). • 11. Does Harper Lee Present The Prejudicial Issues In To Kill... Harper Lee s To kill a Mockingbird explores the prejudicial issues which plague over the town Maycomb. Harper Lee uses the trial of Tom Robinson a black man accused of rape on a young white girl, Mayella as a central theme to portray the prominence of racial discrimination in Maycomb. The main character of the movie is Will Hunting. He is a twenty year old MIT janitor. Will decided to take revenge on someone who used to abuse him in the past, and physically assaulted him which led to his arrest. He suffered a terrible childhood as he grew up as an orphan in various foster homes where he struggled from physical abuse. Giving those people who are confuse a glimpse of what homosexual is trying to fulfill and accomplish. The strategy is somewhat helpful to those who wants to expose their sexual identity, but it doesn t change the fact that heterosexual are more accepted than homosexual. • 33. Violent Video Games And Aggression Analysis Since their appearance in the market, video games are the often the subject of moral debates. Parents are afraid they will influence their children to act out and commit crimes. Mental health professionals worry they ll impact psychological development. In most cases, this is the result of the need of a scapegoat. People need something to blame for the wrong they observe in the immediate world around them. Video games follow rock n roll, comic books, and even radio in a long list of sources of moral panic. There is no evidence to support the claim that they are, without a doubt, the reason for violent crime in teens. Studies into the effects of violent video games on teenage behavior stem back decades. Yet no study has isolated video games as being the sole contributor to juvenile violence. Consumption of video games continues to rise, while violent crimes committed by teens are in decline. Total video game sales in the US increased 204% from 1994 to 2014. Meanwhile, murders committed by juveniles acting alone fell 76% in that same period (1). Each of these educational philosophers have greatly shaped the reconstruction ideologies; however, for the purpose of this paper, it was considered to analyze the work of Brameld, Horton, and Freire. Theodore Brameld (1904 1987) is considered to be the founder of the social reconstruction movement. The Brameld s ideas to understand human condition were nurtured by thinkers such as Freud and Marx, as well as by sociologists such as W. L. Warner (Thomas, 1999). Brameld s ideologies were conceived through a curriculum experiment conducted in a rural high school in Minnesota during 1944 to 1945 (Stone, 1995). In this experiment, called the Floodwood Project, Brameld cooperatively participated with this high school s students and teachers to answer this question: What kind of a society do we, as young citizens, want to build for tomorrow . The students, who participated in this study, drew characteristics of an ideal society by working from their expectations and experiences about what a good society should provide. The implied assumption in these so called experiments is that environment contributes more than inheritance to human talents: Experiences has the power to hide the inborn nature of an individual. Through this research, we are able to understand that even though we appreciate nature, more of nurture influences our personality and the way we behave. To understand nurture, our psychology lecture (A.Nzangi) pointed out in one of her lecture that both gene and environment affect our behavior and hence they can t work on their own but need each other. Nurture is the environment aspect that builds up our behavior. Example of what the environment influences to make up our behavior are; our character (morals and values), career choice, the language we speak, and our perception about life (religion, social, and political aspect in life). • 43. Learned Helplessness Is A Mental Disorder Learned helplessness is a mental disorder that affects many people in our society. The term learned helplessness was first used by Martin Seligman and Steven Maier in the 1960 s. Dictionary.com defines it as a mental condition in which one becomes unable to help oneself due to previous failed attempts at controlling one s life. This is not a genetic disorder that can be passed down from family members, rather a learned behavior that develops due to environmental factors. Seligman and Maier s research demonstrates how the condition occurs. Seligman and Maier s discovery is derived from the results of an experiment based on Pavlov s classical conditioning theory. The experiment being performed involved dogs and mild electrical shocks. Initially, the dogs were restrained in a hammock and they would receive a mild electric shock every time a specific sound was heard. After a conditioning period, the dogs were removed from the restrictive hammocks and placed into boxes. The boxes did not restrain the dogs in any manner, and they could easily jump out of the boxes in order to avoid the electrical shock at any time. The dogs involved in this experiment never tried to escape from the boxes. The dogs had learned in the previous conditioning that the shock was not based upon their behavior and it was unavoidable. The dogs had developed a feeling of helplessness that had overwhelmed their beings, that they quit trying to avoid the electrical shocks and just accepted it as fate ... Colonization by zebra mussels has devastating ecological impacts on native bivalves (Mackie, 1991; Haag et al., 1993), frequently driving them to local extinction. Zebra mussels readily, perhaps preferentially, settle on native bivalves and eventually cover them over. They filter the water so efficiently that they can lower the amount of suspended food organisms below levels needed to sustain native unionids. Their success in spreading rapidly and colonizing new areas is due to two features of zebra mussel biology. Firstly, zebra mussels produce large numbers ( gt; 30,000 per female) of planktotrophic veliger larvae which can survive for 10 15 days (Hebert et al., 1989). Such larvae are well suited for efficient dispersal by water currents, especially in riverine systems. Additionally, they don t require the presence of suitable host species of fish, as do native unionid larvae. Because of this ability, adult zebra mussels can attach to and be spread by ships, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rise Of American Theaters And Consumerist Desires Rise of American Theaters And Consumerist Desires In the early twentieth century movies signified modernity by becoming the most prevalent medium of culture in the United States in a period of time where the social makeup was shifting from a predominantly middle class to working class neighborhoods that were made up of many different communities. As a direct consequence, nickelodeons, temporary storefront theaters, and vaudeville programs all flourished in the working class districts. By the late 1920s, almost every large American city showed off a new picture palace, an elaborately constructed movie theater. Moreover, with this transition from previous vaudeville houses and nickelodeons to the rise of these so called picture palaces in the United States, new spaces of consumerismwere forged that focused on enlightening the average spectator as movie moguls such as the notable Samuel Roxy Rotahfel who envisioned a specific function for all major theaters. Consequently, I would argue that these new spaces of consumerism transformed and transfixed its audiences architecturally (looking at the physical space of the theater) and psychologically (reading space as consumerist fantasy) in Roxy s picture palaces such as the Family Theater and the Regent Theater and how these theaters fit into the market of mass consumerism in creating desire as well as a release from modern societal pressures. What Are The Legal Issues Related To The Ford Motor Company Memorandum TO: Jonathan Foster, Head of the Legal Analytics Department FROM: Sawyer Folks, Business Analyst DATE: April 27, 2015 SUBJECT: Ford Motor Company Background The Ford Motor Company has had a rather tarnished legal history. Ford got into some hot water in the 1990s and 2000s over multiple safety scandals. One of these scandals occurred in 1996 and involved faulty ignition switches that would short and cause fires. The ignition switch scandal then led to Ford being sued by State Farm for neglecting to release information about the faulty ignition switches and their tendency to start fires. Perhaps the most famous Ford safety scandal of all took place during the 1970s when Ford released the Pinto. As a consequence of a poor design, the fuel tank was located near the cars bumper and had virtually zero protection mechanisms in place. This design flaw led to many fatal explosions from the car being struck from behind. Ford ended up having to pay millions of dollars in civil cases as a result of injuries and deaths related to the design of the Pinto. Ford had to fork over $125 million dollars in damages in just one civil case, although this was a special case. Sometimes imposing tariffs on the goods imported balances our labor cost, resources and government supported industry. A tariff by definition is a tax or duty to be paid on a particular class of imports or exports. Economic policy of nations and states, tariffs are tools used to control the flow of goods, services and resources being brought into the country. These products can sometimes be less expensive to purchase than the goods being manufactured in the local economy. • 54. The Five People You Meet In Heaven Analysis The Five People You Meet In Heaven The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom is a heartfelt story of a war veteran named Eddie who works at the Ruby Pier. On his 83rd birthday, Eddie is killed trying to save a little girl from the falling cart of a ride that malfunctioned. When Eddie goes to heaven, he meets five people that tell him different things about his life and teach him lessons. Within the book, there are many important symbols. The Ferris wheel and the ocean are two of these symbols that help contribute to a deeper meaning of the story. The ocean is a beautiful yet dangerous thing that represents not only destruction but new beginnings. When Eddie met Ruby, the woman Ruby Pierwas named after, she told Eddie the story of how the pier came to be. Her husband, Emile, was captivated by the ocean and enjoyed seaside resorts. He ...loved the attractions, the salty food, the gypsies and fortune tellers... (115). and once they got married, Emile promised to build a resort park just for Ruby. When the pier burned down after a firework incident on the Fourth Of July, Emile was devastated after all the work he put into the pier and his spirit was as broken as his body (122). The couples love for the ocean was the initial reason the pier was built and it led to destruction. Apart from the demolition of Ruby Pier, the ocean also led to another event of destruction. One night, Eddie saw a man named Mickey Shea sexually harassing his mother in his own house. Mickey was a friend of Eddie s father, and when Eddie s father came home, he chased Mickey out the house with a hammer. They ran in the middle of a storm to the pier, and Mickey ended up rolling under a wood railing into the ocean below. Eddie s dad jumped into the water after him and dragged him to shore, where they both collapsed on the sand (134 136). Eddie s father ended up catching pneumonia and his condition went from fair to stable and from stable to serious (124 25). Eddie s father ended up dying and Eddie s life was never the same afterward. A new beginning did sprout for Eddie out of his father s sickness, though. Eddie started his work at the pier: greasing the tracks, repairing broken parts in the shop, and testing levers. Eddie ... • 55. Under this section, by analyzing a past event where... Under this section, by analyzing a past event where Volkswagen had changed its corporate governance orientation due to market condition in the early 1990s, we will evaluate how its strategic design for remuneration and incentive systems were changed in the 2000 as a result. We will also discuss and evaluate the implications of its most recent remuneration scheme changes since 2011. Due to increased competition and dismal record of profitability of the auto industry in 1993, top management at Volkswagen had been adopting the shareholder value principles as the new style of corporate governance. In achieving the financial and profitability goals set by management, series of steps were taken to increase motivation and facilitate the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first stock option plan was also introduced in 1999. Its main feature is that it is also open to ordinary blue and white collar employees. Subscription limitation was divided according to three groups: 1. wage and salary earners subject to collective agreements, 2. salary earners and management not subject to collective agreements below top management, 3. top management. Employees of the first group can subscribe for ten options, the second for 100 options, and the third for 1,000 options. Each option gives the right to buy 10 shares. The subscription of stock options assumed that the employee also subscribed for time asset papers. For each option employee had to have 100 DM on his time asset paper account. Thus the time asset scheme was supported and facilitated by means of the share option plan. For tax reasons the time asset paper is in particular advantageous for managers. They are made more attractive by linkage to the stock option schemes. The time asset scheme can thus also help to solve problems of retaining personnel. Nevertheless, tying bonuses to performances requires a detailed area specific planning and a controlling system which did not exist except for a few pilot areas within the company. There are also no specific performance oriented guidelines for personnel appraisal systems. It is the decision of management in the different business areas to use individual goal ... • 57. Generation Is The Dumbest Generation According to Mark Bauerlein, who wrote The Dumbest Generation, Millennials know absolutely nothing and aren t capable of being intelligent. He continues to think it is the dumbest generation and supports it with sloppy evidence. Throughout the years, people, particularly older wise people, have declared that the generation today is the dumbest of them all and the reason for this is due to the fact that technology is a huge part of the generation and this generation simply has it easier which is considered bad in their eyes. A generalization like this ruins the confidence of the majority of the generation. Of course there is always going to be some bad apples in the batch, but all of them? Absolutely not. Generation Y is not dumb and is maybe even smarter than the last. It is one of the most innovative and independent generations. This generation isn t as dumb as Generation X thinks. In fact, it isn t dumb at all but it is rather smart. It s actually quite smart that the generation finds other ways to express or find answers in today s world. They also write much more and complex than young people in the 20th century. Meaning that they don t just simply do or say something, they think outside the box and find different ways to deliver what they want to do or say. According to Andrea Lunsford, a Stanford professor, Young people today write far more than any generation before them. That s because so much socializing takes place online, and it almost always involves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
