Drug Addiction In Junky And Naked Lunch
The images that Burroughs presented in Junky, and The Yage Letters about drug addiction is totally
different from the one he presented in Naked Lunch. In the previous books, Burroughs only showed
the good party like side of drug addiction, it made him hallucinates but took away all the worries and
fears he had. He traveled to Mexico, Columbia and Morocco because he wanted to freely do heroin
and all the drugs he could get. He mentioned casually the side effects of drugs but it was normal for
him and he wouldn t stop doing it because of that. In addition, in the other books he was telling the
story from the point of view of a rich man who had money to afford the life of a Junky, he could
travel, he had a family and even though he killed his wife while under the influence of drugs he didn t
blame it on that. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in the Naked Lunch drug addiction is presented as a disease, it destroys the souls of users
and leave them as ghosts. They have no family, no friends, no jobs, and are only occupied and
obsessed by their needs of heroin. I am a ghost wanting what every ghost wants a body after the Long
Time moving through odorless alleys of space where no life is only the colorless no smell of
death....Nobody can breathe and smell it through pink convolutions of gristle laced with crystal snot,
time shit and black blood filters of flesh (Charters 131). In Naked Lunch he was exploring both the
physical and emotional change that happen to addicts. How weak their bodies become, and they turn
against each other because of drugs. Moreover, it seems like he hates the addicts and their empty lives.
While in his previous books he loved the excitement that came with using drugs. He didn t insults the
friends that sold him the drugs or the people he sold

Ivan Provorov Case Study
Player Profile: Ivan Provorov With the Flyers at number seven on the board at the NHL Draft the
Flyers found themselves with a great player still available. At the seventh pick in the NHL 2015 Draft
the Philadelphia Flyers selected Ivan Provorov of the WHL s Brandon Wheat Kings. While most will
believe that the Flyer s biggest need was a strong winger, the Flyers have needs at defense as well and
in this situation, Provorov was by far the best player left available at the seventh pick. Provorov also
fits the system Hakstol plans to implement as a mobile, offensively gifted defensemen. When
Provorov s name was called, NHL draft analysts had nothing but good things to say about the Russian
defensemen. I think he s the best defensemen

The Rights Of Animal Rights
Animal Rights
Animals Rights is a big discussion that has been around for while. Many argue since animals aren t
human, it doesn t matter how they are treated or taken care of. There are others that do care how our
animals are treated and taken care of. Animal rights are rights believed to belong to animals to live
free from use in medical research, hunting, and other services to humans. This topic has been around
for a while but has become more absolute (Environmental Encyclopedia, Opposing Viewpoint).
Animal rights involves personal, social, legal, religious, cultural values, belief, and decisions. This
alone causes the viewpoint to vary based on many factors. Add in the many benefits animals have for
humans and the lines are blurred further. Animals should be treated humanely as they are living
breathing beings and are aware of their lives. Animals have similar levels of biological complexity,
they make conscious choices, and they are conscious and aware they exist.
Animals should have rights because many of them provide companionship for humans. Therapy dogs
are canines that might be trained to provide affection and comfort to people in hospitals, nursing
homes, schools, disaster areas, and people with autism (General SHCS Info). Farm animals provide
services for humans such as producing milk, eggs, and wool. Animals like horses can be used to pull a
plow, wagon, carriage, and can be ridden to go to places. 62% of all U.S. households more than 72.9

The Success Of The Company Braun And Sony Two Companies...
To change the way a nation perceives an idea is remarkable. To change the worlds idea of how one
would accomplish a task is a feat only relatable to the end of a war. But to change a product line
forever, to change the way a certain product was produced, to change how people went about
designing this product, interacting with this product, thinking of this product, now that s a whole new
world. Very few designers have the privilege to say that they have achieved this, an accomplishment
that designers dream of. The companies Braun and Sony are two companies with the same goal.
Through their philosophies they have helped change the way people think about products. The Sk4
record player (figure 1) produced in 1956 from Braun and the Sony Walkman (figure 2) made in 1979
were two products that achieved this feat. They were two products that were conceived in two very
different ways, two products for very different markets, but two products with the same ideas, wants
and needs as each other. Both the Sk4 and Sony Walkman have large focuses on space they were both
designed with the user at the very forefront of the designers minds. The Sk4 was designed with
disregard for fashion, completely opposite to the Walkmans design philosophy yet they have had
similar effects on the world and Both Sony and Braun have created similar products although they
were made 22 years apart.
The Sk4 was designed by Dieter Rams In Frankfurt, Germany for the company Braun who had the

The End Of Chattel Slavery Essay
Looking back in history, you will find that slavery was always present. There are accounts of slavery
in Babylon, Greece, and Rome, all occurring before the Common Era; but there was a major change
during the year 1619 in the way slavery was implemented. This form of slavery was known as chattel
slavery. Defined as A civil relationship in which one person has absolute power over the life, fortune,
and liberty of another (Legal dictionary.com), chattel slavery targeted African slaves that were brought
over from Africa to the Americas to support the production of crops such as tobacco and cotton.
Previous to the year 1619, slavery was used as a way to pay off debt or as seen in Rome it existed to
provide everyone with an equal opportunity. In examining the start of chattel slavery I pose three
questions: What was the true purpose of chattel slavery, why was chattel slavery only in America and
found nowhere else in any point of history, and are there forms of chattel slavery that exist today?
Answering these questions will be pivotal in explaining why chattel slavery was constructed.
A common misconception that most people have about the word slavery is that it is bad or people tend
to think about African slaves walking in chains and being beaten. History has shown and proven
numerous account of slavery so how come when we think of slavery we seem to think of the
stereotypical slavery (chattel slavery)? In fact, Classical Greece was the first society seen that had

Racial Profiling is Necessary
In order to understand racial profiling, it must first be correctly defined. Although different authors use
different criteria for the term racial profiling, Merriam Webster s definition for the word racial is of,
relating to, or based on a race (Merriam Webster, 2006; p.855). The definition the dictionary puts forth
for profiling is the act of suspecting or targeting a person solely on the basis of observed
characteristics or behavior (Merriam Webster, 2006; p.830). Based on these definitions, racial
profiling could be defined for criminal justice purposes as targeting a person based solely on the
characteristic of race. Most people, law enforcement officers included, would consider racial profiling
based on this definition as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He actually went as far as to lay out the groundwork for ethical color profiling. First, the profile
cannot be too broad and cannot include too many people as suspects (Corlett, 2006; p.28). Second,
ethnic background of the witnesses from whom the profiles are drawn must be taken into account ,
meaning that if someone is racist or has other negative characteristics, the account of race might be
false (Corlett, 2006; p. 28). Lastly, he argued that the same tactics must be used for everyone, no
matter race, class, et cetera (Corlett, 2006; p.29). Other authors had opinions on the topic of racial
profiling. In Crime and Policing in Rural and Small Town America, the authors bemoaned the lack of
research that has been done about race and crime in suburban and rural areas, claiming that the
research that abounds regarding urban areas is incompatible with suburban and rural areas (Weisheit,
Falcone, and Wells, 2006; p.38). They believed that by putting more effort in to the area of race in
rural and suburban areas, it will be proven that minorities are actually underrepresented in the justice
system in rural areas (Weisheit, Falcone, and Wells, 2006; p.38). This argument could go further by
saying that the current research that favors the critics side of racial profiling might be inaccurate.
George M. Fredrickson s work focused on the history of racism from a historian s perspective and he
believed that any profiling based on race is wrong (Fredrickson,

Essay On Invisible Man
People often describe a point in their life where suddenly everything becomes clear. It may be an
epiphany, offering meaning, purpose, or a path to self discovery. One event, conversation, or action
may result in an illuminating moment changing the course of one s life. Oliver Wendell Holmes, a
nineteenth century American poet, describes the lasting effects of this phenomena, a moment s insight
is sometimes worth a life s experience . The narrator, in Ralph Ellison s Invisible Man, experiences
this life altering moment when he is ensnarled in a race riot. Observing the violence, protests, and
destruction surrounding him, he suddenly realizes he has failed himself and his race, those who once

He tells the narrator, you re nobody, son. You don t exist can t you see that? (143). Bledsoe s words
stun the narrator, and he thinks his three years of college were wasted. Yet, when Bledsoe offered the
narrator connections and false recommendation letters, the narrator again trusted him. Leaving school
for New York, the narrator did not fully comprehend how the townsmen and Dr. Bledsoe deluded him.
The townsmen only saw the narrator as an obedient black boy and used him to prove they were good
citizens. Bledsoe, on the other hand, hypocritically served as a college president pretending to care
about its students. Though distraught, the narrator moves on, unaware how greatly he has been duped.
People who saw the narrator s gifts used them for their own purpose rather than to help him succeed.
When members of the Brotherhood first heard the narrator s oratory skill, they immediately asked him
to join. Desperate for both money and the desire to speak for his race, the narrator was a naive, easy
target for the Brotherhood. Once a member, the Brotherhood exploit the narrator. After several
months, the narrator realized his opinions and thoughts were irrelevant; he was to comply with the
Brotherhood and allow himself to be their mouthpiece. Jack threateningly reminds

Natural Selection Experience
When observing the progression of knowledge within a discipline, one may begin to notice trends,
specifically that the aspects of knowledge that were beneficial to society were further developed,
which outdated the aspects of knowledge that were disadvantageous. This trend is similar to the
principles of natural selection, defined in the natural sciences as the process whereby organisms better
adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring.
Before I describe my interpretation of natural selection, it is necessary to define knowledge, which, in
terms of this essay, is an idea or technology developed to improve the lives, and has been shown to do
so. I interpreted the scientific term natural selection, to better ... Show more content on

primarily measles, have been reocurring. For example, in 2013, the measles occurrences spiked to 3
times their normal levels in the United States. This circumstance is primarily due to parents failing to
vaccinate their children, due to claims from other parents that vaccines can trigger autism in a child.
The severity of these claims have led researchers to devote their careers to prove them true or false,
but, as of now, these claims remain bombastic, and many lives are in danger because of the failure to

because I want to know about the Haitian literature in general. This includes, cultural and historical
events, writing masters and everything else that takes part of the Haitian literature that complement
the essence of Haitians culture. I would like to learn all these relevant aspects about Haiti since I do
not know that much of this country. I just know that Haiti is a very poor country where people are very

Clean A Car Clean Car
If you own a car that is getting dirty you may be looking for a way to learn how to clean a car. Believe
it or not, cleaning a car is actually a lot easier than you might think. However, if you do not clean a car
properly then you will not get the most out of the time that you spend cleaning your car. Many people
think that it is only important to clean the outside of a car. The fact of the matter is that it is important
to clean both the inside,or interior, as well as the outside of a car. To start off, you should clean the
exterior of your car. It will help if you have a hose that you can use to clean a car with because you re
going to need a lot of water. To start off, just spray down your car with a general spray of water. This
will get you started on your way to having a sparkling clean car. After you have sprayed your car
down with water you are ready to move onto the next step of cleaning your car. The next step of
cleaning your car involves putting soap on your car. If you want to, you can purchase automotive soap
from your local auto store. It is extremely important for you to spend at least five minutes covering
your car entirely with soap. After your car is covered with soap you can spray down your car with
your hose. This will allow you to wash off any soap that may exist on your car. If you want to learn
how to clean the car you must realize that you might have to do a little bit of dirty work. Even after
putting soap on your car, there may be some dirty spots

Prince Sondheim And The Concept Musical Analysis
Prince, Sondheim, and the Concept Musical ...the musicals that Prince, Sondheim and their various

searching course that redefined the genre Kenrick, 2014 As the 1960 s came to a close, Stephen
Sondheim and Harold Prince joined forces to create a milestone in the development of American
musical theater titled Company. Although the musical did not have a strong plot or much character

Sondheim created the concept musical, which had a profound effect on Broadway for years to come.
Through research, I will travel back to the beginning stages of Sondheim and Prince s start of the

concept musical had for the future creators. Prince and Cabaret No one has been more crucial to the
evolution of the concept musical than Harold Prince. Being trained by George Abbott and Jerome

The Argument Of Capital Punishment
The Argument of Capital Punishment
There not many issues in the criminal justice system that have caused more heated discussions and
arguments as consistent and strong as that of the argument of capital punishment. Capital punishment
(death penalty) is one of the most critical issue that has strong defenders and opponents. This kind of
punishment is the most severe form in the U.S. todays and it has different type which lethal injection
is the most common ( Ethics and Law ). There have been many religious arguments involved in both
sides of the argument, citing both the need for justice and the sanctity of human life. This debate
regarding the death penalty has become a complex issue in recent years with concerns as to the
equality of the criminal justice system, the position of physicians in assisting in executions, and the
likelihood of reform, improvement and rehabilitation amid individuals currently serving on death row.
Also, Make a decision on capital punishment is so complex and difficult for the federal government.

believe fear of death prevent peoples from committing crim. Also, they mentioned on the Crime

first expansion teams ever, the team has over 50+ years of storied history. Because of his, there is a

Television Is A Common Part Of Contemporary Society
The television is also a very important aspect of popular culture that affects the American Identity.
Watching television is such a common part of contemporary society, that most Americans adopted it as
a part of their daily routine and watch television for at least an hour a day. Stanley Crouch, a poet,
music and cultural critic, writes that whenever people pretentiously and proudly announce, I don t
watch television, they should follow it up with I don t look at America either (Masciotra 79).
Television has become a part of many people s lives. When the mass population watches the same TV
shows, movies, etc. they can all relate to each other, and thus unite them as an American. We look to

People who don t know the common trends of fictional or real characters in movies can feel alienated
when referenced in reality.
The internet has also been a key factor of popular culture that affects the American identity. Through
different social media applications and websites, the internet has broken down communication barriers
between different cultures in a way that was nearly impossible in the past. The internet has also
changed how Americans go through their daily lives. In the past people had to meet in person to meet
with each other and communicate. However, today people communicate with each other through the
variety of social media applications on their phones. Dating applications on devices have changed how
people build relationships. Nowadays, most people meet their spouses and friends through the
internet. Since America is very multicultural the internet has helped these cultures to share and
communicate with each other and create a more informed and understanding relationship between
different cultures. While America has been multicultural for so long it does have a history of racism
but the internet has helped break down some of these walls.
Another way of how the social media affects the American identity is through the food advertisements
online. When people order food online they also see food from other cultures, expand their knowledge
about cultural cuisine and become more diverse. Since people do not want to actually have to get

Social Class And Family Relationships
We all have a family, but we all have grown up in a different way. Social class plays a huge role in
family life. Three of the connections between social class and family include kin, child rearing, and
education levels. To begin, kin is a part of the family, but there is a difference between kin ship among
the poor and near poor. Kin is an important part of the family life because it is the connection between
family and, sometimes, wealth. Who people associate in times of need and support greatly influence
their lives and surroundings. In families, the father is seen as the main economic contributor and in
crisis, a loss of a job, his authority will drop. This isn t the only loss he will face, he will also have a
decreased self respect and other family members will treat him with less respect. On the contrary, if
women were to lose her job, there wouldn t be the same treatment. In areas of chronic poverty, young
mothers rely less on marriage and more on other kinship ties for support (Cherlin, 2013, p. 127). The
poor is more likely to reach out or support more distant relatives than the other social classes. There is
yet another difference between the nonpoor. The core of kinship among the nonpoor in the United
States has been the conjugal family of wife, husband, and children (Cherlin, 2013, p. 128). Parents of
the higher social class are expected to provide for themselves and their children first and foremost.

Essay about Music and Society
Music and Society
There is no disputing that society is influenced by its choices of entertainment. Some ways in which
people are influenced are positive, but others are harmful. In the society we live in, the harmful ways
always outnumber the positive. If we gravitated toward the positive forms of entertainment a little
more often than the negative, then our society would have fewer problems. Popular music has a
negative effect on society and endorses a lack of creativity. Most popular music today is driven by
violence and sex. These musicians put out albums that glorify violence and promote causal sex. When
the albums are being produced, the artist does not think of how it will affect the perspective merchant.

People hate the fact of the happening, not being with the popular crowd. Few teens try to develop
independent minds because that would cause them to be creative and different. That brings us to
another point that most popular music is neither unique nor creative. Just about all of the music
coming out now is generally the same. It lacks creativity because artists are just in it to make money,
not for the love of music. Society is force fed this bland music on a daily basis. Through radio stations
and the emergence of MTV, new hit songs come out every week and people digest them, claiming to
enjoy them just so that they appear to be versed on the latest on hit wonder groups. Since the music is
generally the same and really does not change that dramatically every week, album after album is put
out to fatten the wallets of wealthy producers. The more albums that are put out, the more money is
made, as consumers shell out millions every week for something new to listen to, but are merely
continuing to feed the frenzy of the popular music industry. Another harm this entertainment brings to
society is it gives the media an easy scapegoat. When some atrocity gains national attention, the first
thing that is thought of is music and entertainment. When a young boy burnt down his house because
he was watching Beavis and Butt Head, and they were playing with fire, the show was blamed. How

Descriptive Essay On My Room
My bedroom is not a place for the entire community. However, it is just as comfortable to me as
someone else s room is just as comfortable to them. My room is comparably different though. It s not
just a place where I keep all my stuff and sleep all day. There s more to my private abode than what
meets the eye.
Walking on the hardwood floor feels like a punch to the bottom of your foot. The flooring creaks
throughout the house as if it were haunted. However, it s my private space out of the rest of the world,
so overall, it would be worthwhile to cherish it. The blue walls do not take much interest, but the
Eiffel Tower decal and the dark brown trimming brings a bold touch. The room shape is nothing
special, just a small and box like. Dressers and bookshelves are crammed together from wall to wall.
The bed ends up finishing off the room. Having a memory foam mattress isn t hard on any body part,
it cradles the body with every movement. Black and white bedding adds to the decoration of the room,
and all my extra pillows and blankets brings a rainbow to the neutral bedding colors.
My room could be the just as comfortable for rest as the next, but there s more to it than just having

King Henry Viii And The Schism
King Henry VIII and the Schism
St. Augustine, a Catholic saint that helped developed the Western Catholic Church, once said There is
nothing more serious than the sacrilege of schism because there is no just case of severing the unity of
the church (St. Augustine). Through this quote it is learned of the significance of the Catholic Church
saw to staying together and avoiding a schism( a split between parties based on different beliefs). The
Catholics believed that in the event of a break in the church would cause a great disaster because they
believed that the church needs to stay together as a whole or it would be blasphemy, and heresy. The
Church also believed that if the church was to have a schism it would destroy the unity and sanctity of
the church. This in fact would be believed to take away from the church in the manner of it not being
the only church with the same mission. Therefore when King Henry VIII ( the second Tudor, monarch,
who ruled from 1509 1547) separated from the Catholic Church it went completely against the
mission that St. Augustine was trying to teach us through his comments about the church having a
schism. The dangers it could have caused were believed to lead to a destruction of the church and lead
to the end of the Catholic Church all together. Although there are people that view King Henry VIII
actions as positive for Europe and beneficial to Europe especially England, it should be seen that King
Henry VIII actions were not actually

Relationship Between Societies Of Today And The Environment
An interdisciplinary program presented is an investigation of the relationship between societies of
today and the environment they/we live in. In my focus particularly are societies of the Westernized
parts of the world. Their activities within, attitudes towards, values regarding and comprehensiveness
of the complexity of the environment they live and operate in. Consequently, my personal goal is to
gain a deep knowledge of the interconnectedness of human activity and alterations it does to the
environment. Equally, I also aim to understand how attitudes and values (towards the environment)
are passed from generations to generations. After successfully accomplishing studies, my goal is to

The Detrimental Effects Of War In Hemingway s The Sun Also...
Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises presents a cast of characters experiencing their daily lives after
World War I. Not everyone in the novel was involved in the war, but those who served are affected,
often mentally and physically; the main character Jake Barnes received a permanent injury which is
mentioned repeatedly in the novel. Hemingway s work focuses on Jake and his friends journey from
Paris to the Festival of San Fermín. Aside from the planned adventure of going to Spain, the characters
move around frequently in taxis with little purpose. The Sun Also Rises portrays motion which goes
no place and is a novel of stasis and despair to represent the damaging and lasting effects of war.
Taxis are used a significant amount in the novel. The characters use taxis to drift from cafe to cafe and
bar to bar. Although they are physically moving, they are not engaged in the actual activities in their
surroundings. The main characters are ambivalent in regards to destination, not even caring to correct
taxi drivers when dropped off at the wrong café. When Jake was taken to the wrong place, he simply
walked past the sad tables of the Rotonde to the Select because it was near enough, anyway
(Hemingway 37), showing no reaction toward the error. The detrimental effects of war influence the
characters into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Leadership Concepts Of The Film Nemo
In this paper I will identify and explain the leadership concepts that I learned in this class using
characters from the film Finding Nemo. To do so I will provide examples of transformative leadership
and describe the impact it had on others. I will also explain how the characters acquired their
leadership effectiveness by identifying experiences that were instrumental in their leadership
development.
Transformative Leaders The three characters in the film Finding Nemo that displayed transformative
leadership are Marlin, Dory and Gill. Marlin0020goes on a journey to find his lost son Nemo. While
on his journey Marlin experiences many challenges and meets new friends. Marlin learns that he no
longer needs to be afraid, and that he can be a leader. Along the way Marlin meets Dory, who joins
him on his journey. She is a very positive fish who suffers from short term memory loss. Dory always
maintains a positive attitude, calms Marlin as he becomes upset and helps Marlin become more
positive as well (Bennis, 2009). Throughout the movie Dory shows Marlin that he can trust her. Dory
easily adjusts to new situations and thinks outside of the box which contributes to Marlin being
reunited with Nemo. As Dory and Marlin s journey nears the end Marlin begins to have a lot of
respect and trust for Dory. Gill is also a transformative leader. Nemo met Gill in the fish tank at the
dentist s office after he was captured. Nemo was very scared and unfamiliar with his new

The Case Lawsuit, Debra Nathan Nenn Essay
This claim arises out of a lawsuit filed by Plaintiff, Debra Nathan Nenn, on her own behalf, and on
behalf of her minor son, Grey Hoffman. The Amended Complaint alleges in general that Ms. Nathan
Nenn executed a written lease to rent a house from the insureds starting on June 1, 2013. The plaintiffs
further allege that starting on the day the plaintiffs took possession of the house, the drain in the
kitchen sink was not working and the insureds failed to correct this condition. The complaint
continues to allege additional deficiencies in the rental property such as mold growth in one of the
bedrooms and in various locations of the house due to excess moisture and failure to patch exterior
openings, insufficient heating, holes in the exterior walls, an unfinished deck, insufficient weather
sealants, vermin in the crawlspace, frozen pipes and lack of running water. The plaintiffs further allege
that the insureds have failed to address and resolve the above issues. The most serious claim is that the
mold present throughout the house caused the plaintiff and her minor son to become ill.
The insureds, who live in a separate house on the same property, refute all of the plaintiffs allegations
with the exception of their concession that a portion of the siding is missing from one of the exterior
walls. They explained that during the renovation of the house, which was completed approximately
one year before the plaintiffs took possession, they had a window removed from

Intolerance During The Nazi Regime
Intolerance
The definition of intolerance is the unwillingness to accept views, beliefs, or behavior that differ from
one s own . There have been many times in history when people have been unwilling to accept things
that are different than what they belief. There has been the Nazi regime, whites segregating blacks,
people who disagree with people who are homesexual, and Donald Trump.
One example of intolerance is during the Nazi regime. When Hitler came to power in 1933, he tried to
imprison and kill all Jews and nobody for the most part tried to stop him. Hitler didn t stop there
though, he still thought that everyone who didn t have blonde hair and blue eyes were not good
enough, because they were not what he thought to be the perfect race. There was the holocaust. There
were about 42, 500 facilities in Germany that were used for slave labor, mass murder, and other
human right abuses. It is to be predicted that about 200,000 Jews died during the Holocaust. Jews
were hunted down and were forced to go into hiding. If they were caught, they would be sent to
concentration camps where many died. Six million Jews died, including 1.5 million children during
the Nazi regime. Five million ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people think that there is something wrong with them and resent them. There are many cases
where family members push them out or ignore them because they are gay, lesbians, transgender, or

There are some people dislike people who are gay and lesbians, so much that they feel like they need
to kill them. If intolerance is the unwillingness to accept views, beliefs, or behavior that differ from
one s own , then this was a good example because people mainly dislike people who are gay, lesbian,

Barbarians At The Gate By Kohlberg Kravis Roberts And Co.
Barbarians at The Gate is a prominent book within the financial industry and a great book to read for a
deeper look inside how the private equity world works. The book is an account of one most famous
leveraged buyout cases in the history of private equity. The story is about the leveraged buyout of RJR
Nabisco, Inc. by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts Co., more commonly known as KKR, a tycoon in the
private equity business in 1988. The book is written by two journalists of the wall street journal, Bryan
Burrough and John Helyar and the chain of articles they wrote about during the entire longevity of the
buyout process, through interviews with the key players in the deal. For anyone who is interested in
the complex yet simple world of leveraged buyouts, the book is a must read to understand the nature
of the deals and how anything goes and the characters and the psychology of people.
The chieftain of the book is Ross Johnson, the fiery, energetic and entertaining Chief Executive
Officer of RJR Nabisco. The Canadian businessman got his start in General Electric as an accountant,
after graduating from University of Manitoba in 1952, through a military scholarship. After General
Electric, he moved on to T. Eaton Company where he was the Vice President of merchandising.
Shortly after, he was named president of Standard Brands Ltd. From there, Johnson began his reign to
the top of the corporate ladder, by discussing a merger between his company and Nabisco with the

Essay On Don John Deception
Interviewer: Don John s lawyer, how bad was the actions of Dong John? Don John s deception did not
break the law as it did not result in any damage to anyone that was involved in this incident. Even
though it was harmless, people misunderstood the incident as a cruel and harsh action. Borachio, one
of his workers was the one who pretended to be a man on Hero s balcony. You might think that Don
John should be ashamed of himself but I know Borachio was the real culprit behind the trickery. He
was the person who attempted to deceive Claudio which also influenced him to deceive Hero.

the plan was also trying to help Don John to get attention. I heard that there was a child in the village

The Industrial Revolution Of The Middle East
For millennia mankind has exhausted endless amounts of energy contemplating the eternally
complicated system of war. From Gangas Khan to America s involvement in the Middle East, all
successful generals, military leaders, and conquerors have found commonality in their zealous
emphasis on, and desire for, possessing the most technologically advanced forms of weaponry. Such a
desire was not ignored in America nor England during the Industrial Revolution, but, rather, was seen
by many as an opportune investment during a time of extraordinarily progressive innovation. With this
in mind the Industrial Revolution became heavily involved with the advancement of weaponry,
forever changing the face of war unlike any era before it.
The industrial revolution was a time of great change for both Europe and America. Inventions during
this time (such as the cotton gin, the steam engine, sewing machine) stemmed from a seemingly never
ending flow of revelation in thought. Thus, paving the way for a more advanced and technological
society. This was a time of great accomplishment. With the drastic advancement of economic and
technological innovation came the traumatic realization of necessary social adaptation; a change that
did not come easy for such a progressive society. The upper class became more wealthy as the number
of impoverished citizens increased.
Britain set an appropriate stage for the industrial revolution to take place. Britain was a politically
stable society and was the

Heart Rate And Its Effect On The Human Body
Heart Rate as it Relates to Age and Sex
Problem:
The heart is the most important muscle in the human body. It is located in the circulatory system and it
pumps blood along with other nutrients all through the body, which in turn keeps us alive. But, what is
actually happening when it beats? Simultaneously, the heart is receiving deoxygenated blood and
returning oxygenated blood to the body. It is made up of four chambers called the left and right atria,
located on top, and the left and right ventricles, located on the bottom. The right atrium fills with
blood from the veins and then contracts to send the blood to the right ventricle, which then sends
oxygen rich blood to the lungs through arteries. At the same time, the left atrium fills with blood from
the veins and then contracts sending blood to the left ventricle, which then sends blood to the rest of
the body through arteries (Silverthorn). A pulse happens every time the heart contracts. Pulse in
counted by the number of times an artery expands and contracts as a result of the heart beating. It is
measured in number of beats per minute and is commonly written as bpm. There are seven arteries in
the body used to measure pulse, here are a few: the radial artery, located on the thumb side of the
wrist; the brachial artery, located on the inside of the arm at the elbow; and the carotid artery, located
on the side of the neck (Silverthorn). The purpose of this experiment is to determine whether age

He focussed upon the ground of the ahead of him and began counting the bricks. One, two, three,
four...he stopped at the fifth, crouched down, and retrieved a small spatula from his jacket. He pried
the fifth brick out of the ground, about half an inch; just enough so that it would catch the foot of the
intended target. Jack stood up once more, glancing down at the dislodged brick. It looked about right,
as if it would fulfil its intended purpose effectively. Perhaps it wasn t quite as covert as he tended to
prefer, but he was sure it was good enough to handle the task required of it.
Jack unzipped the duffle bag he d brought with him. Inside, a small metal rake lay alone in the main
compartment. He used it in several of his visions, Both as a weapon and as a prop. Whilst the heads on
approach would certainly have been more satisfying for Jack, it often resulted in injury or death on his
part within his visions. Thus, he much preferred the odds of its usage as a prop, even if that meant
making the occasion somewhat less fun .
He hurried back over to the dislodged brick and placed the rake exactly five bricks away, before
observing his setup once more. He internally counted out the bricks upon which the handle of the rake

If the palate is not yet formed, this is a cleft or/and palate. The signs of a child having a cleft lip or/and

The Politics of Jacksonian America
Hill and Wang, N.Y.
Review written by Richard Foust Book Review Harry L. Watson s book, Liberty and Power, The
Politics of Jacksonian America , takes an analytical look at America and her politics during the Age of
Jackson. Watson uses the economy and the ideological mindset of the people, to support a powerful
argument about the beginning of American political parties and their importance in defining the
political direction of the country. Watson argues that economic inequalities caused by the Market

The subsistence farmer, unable to compete, saw the Market Revolution as a threat to his liberty and
acted on this threat. Watson surmises that with this threat, politically active citizens were ripe for a
political party system that would protect their independence and liberty. Enter Andrew Jackson, who
appealed to those voters who felt threatened by the changing economic picture. Jackson and his
supporters believed that the Republican/Whig political party represented an elitist, aristocratic
government that would put the ever expanding economy and their own profit above the liberty and
good of the majority and it was the good of the majority that Jackson would rely on with great
success. He believed that the preservation of the Republic depended on the majority and the majority
was represented by independent farmers, who were profiting the least from the Market Revolution.
Believing that any government based on aristocracy could become corrupt, he felt that that the best
way was to treat all of the citizens alike and turn the rule of the country over to the majority. This
majority, with the fiery General Andrew Jackson as their leader, would create the Democratic Party.
Watson s focus on political parties, chapter 6, is an important part of this book. Not only does it
support his argument, but it also gives the reader

My bus ride home came to a screeching halt. My bus driver is not a very good driver. I stepped, well
more like jumped down the steps of the school bus and I wish I could say I stuck the landing, but
sadly I didn t. I almost went head first into a tree, but I caught myself and played it off as I quickly got

these trees have an infinite amount of leaves to give to the autumn wind. I have always had a special
place in my heart for autumn. The food is amazing, the weather couldn t be better, and the hoodies,

According to a study conducted by the Institute of Education, children who read for pleasure made
more progress in math, vocabulary and spelling between the ages of 10 and 16 than those who rarely
read ( Reading for Pleasure, 2013). Nowadays, we see children who prefer using the latest gadgets,
rather than reading a book. This is due in part to the significant advancement in technology, but the
main concern here is, how can parents keep their children away from iPad s, iPhones, and
playstations, and get them to read? Psychologically.
Learning is a very important part in psychological development, and is defined as the process of

268 283). How can we use this concept of classical conditioning to help parents encourage their kids
to read more often?
One of the earliest methods of classical conditioning for reading in children can occur during infancy.
Reading to infants contributes to the development of their growing brains and gives them a good start
towards a lifelong love of reading and good literature ( The Importance of Reading, 2015). Reading
aloud connects synapses in the infant s brain through the linking of neurons, thus greater enhancing
child development. Infants have stranger anxiety starting from nine months of age, and always feel the
need to be close to parents or caregivers. As a result, if the parents or caregivers read to their children,
the children can associate reading with a pleasant interaction from the parents.
Emerging from infancy, there are also many precautions that can be taken to get children to read in
their early years. For example, Parents can convey important positive impressions about reading by
making reading an experience their children will remember and cherish ( What Parents Can Do,
2015). Changing your tone of voice for different characters is one of the many strategies that leads
children to be more engaged. The different tones create a sensation

Steven Spielberg s Reagan-Age
Despite efforts to divorce its story from Arthur Conan Doyle s oeuvre, even politely stating a lack of
affiliation in the opening credits, Young Sherlock Holmes preserves the spirit of Doyle s characters,
fostering an intimate relationship between the adolescent leads and using deductive reasoning as the
backbone of their forthcoming professional partnership. The core attributes are deep rooted, regardless
of the reconstituted origin story and multitude of practical effects, which act as a pleasant diversion,
but produce a distracting incongruity when paired with Victorian set design. Nevertheless, the alliance
between Albion pomp and American excess routinely prevails, bolstered by unexpected melancholic
notes and lived in performances that could sway even the most obstinate purist. The setting is a snow

  • 2. Drug Addiction In Junky And Naked Lunch The images that Burroughs presented in Junky, and The Yage Letters about drug addiction is totally different from the one he presented in Naked Lunch. In the previous books, Burroughs only showed the good party like side of drug addiction, it made him hallucinates but took away all the worries and fears he had. He traveled to Mexico, Columbia and Morocco because he wanted to freely do heroin and all the drugs he could get. He mentioned casually the side effects of drugs but it was normal for him and he wouldn t stop doing it because of that. In addition, in the other books he was telling the story from the point of view of a rich man who had money to afford the life of a Junky, he could travel, he had a family and even though he killed his wife while under the influence of drugs he didn t blame it on that. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, in the Naked Lunch drug addiction is presented as a disease, it destroys the souls of users and leave them as ghosts. They have no family, no friends, no jobs, and are only occupied and obsessed by their needs of heroin. I am a ghost wanting what every ghost wants a body after the Long Time moving through odorless alleys of space where no life is only the colorless no smell of death....Nobody can breathe and smell it through pink convolutions of gristle laced with crystal snot, time shit and black blood filters of flesh (Charters 131). In Naked Lunch he was exploring both the physical and emotional change that happen to addicts. How weak their bodies become, and they turn against each other because of drugs. Moreover, it seems like he hates the addicts and their empty lives. While in his previous books he loved the excitement that came with using drugs. He didn t insults the friends that sold him the drugs or the people he sold ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Ivan Provorov Case Study Player Profile: Ivan Provorov With the Flyers at number seven on the board at the NHL Draft the Flyers found themselves with a great player still available. At the seventh pick in the NHL 2015 Draft the Philadelphia Flyers selected Ivan Provorov of the WHL s Brandon Wheat Kings. While most will believe that the Flyer s biggest need was a strong winger, the Flyers have needs at defense as well and in this situation, Provorov was by far the best player left available at the seventh pick. Provorov also fits the system Hakstol plans to implement as a mobile, offensively gifted defensemen. When Provorov s name was called, NHL draft analysts had nothing but good things to say about the Russian defensemen. I think he s the best defensemen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Rights Of Animal Rights Animal Rights Animals Rights is a big discussion that has been around for while. Many argue since animals aren t human, it doesn t matter how they are treated or taken care of. There are others that do care how our animals are treated and taken care of. Animal rights are rights believed to belong to animals to live free from use in medical research, hunting, and other services to humans. This topic has been around for a while but has become more absolute (Environmental Encyclopedia, Opposing Viewpoint). Animal rights involves personal, social, legal, religious, cultural values, belief, and decisions. This alone causes the viewpoint to vary based on many factors. Add in the many benefits animals have for humans and the lines are blurred further. Animals should be treated humanely as they are living breathing beings and are aware of their lives. Animals have similar levels of biological complexity, they make conscious choices, and they are conscious and aware they exist. Animals should have rights because many of them provide companionship for humans. Therapy dogs are canines that might be trained to provide affection and comfort to people in hospitals, nursing homes, schools, disaster areas, and people with autism (General SHCS Info). Farm animals provide services for humans such as producing milk, eggs, and wool. Animals like horses can be used to pull a plow, wagon, carriage, and can be ridden to go to places. 62% of all U.S. households more than 72.9 million ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Success Of The Company Braun And Sony Two Companies... To change the way a nation perceives an idea is remarkable. To change the worlds idea of how one would accomplish a task is a feat only relatable to the end of a war. But to change a product line forever, to change the way a certain product was produced, to change how people went about designing this product, interacting with this product, thinking of this product, now that s a whole new world. Very few designers have the privilege to say that they have achieved this, an accomplishment that designers dream of. The companies Braun and Sony are two companies with the same goal. Through their philosophies they have helped change the way people think about products. The Sk4 record player (figure 1) produced in 1956 from Braun and the Sony Walkman (figure 2) made in 1979 were two products that achieved this feat. They were two products that were conceived in two very different ways, two products for very different markets, but two products with the same ideas, wants and needs as each other. Both the Sk4 and Sony Walkman have large focuses on space they were both designed with the user at the very forefront of the designers minds. The Sk4 was designed with disregard for fashion, completely opposite to the Walkmans design philosophy yet they have had similar effects on the world and Both Sony and Braun have created similar products although they were made 22 years apart. The Sk4 was designed by Dieter Rams In Frankfurt, Germany for the company Braun who had the goal to change ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The End Of Chattel Slavery Essay Looking back in history, you will find that slavery was always present. There are accounts of slavery in Babylon, Greece, and Rome, all occurring before the Common Era; but there was a major change during the year 1619 in the way slavery was implemented. This form of slavery was known as chattel slavery. Defined as A civil relationship in which one person has absolute power over the life, fortune, and liberty of another (Legal dictionary.com), chattel slavery targeted African slaves that were brought over from Africa to the Americas to support the production of crops such as tobacco and cotton. Previous to the year 1619, slavery was used as a way to pay off debt or as seen in Rome it existed to provide everyone with an equal opportunity. In examining the start of chattel slavery I pose three questions: What was the true purpose of chattel slavery, why was chattel slavery only in America and found nowhere else in any point of history, and are there forms of chattel slavery that exist today? Answering these questions will be pivotal in explaining why chattel slavery was constructed. A common misconception that most people have about the word slavery is that it is bad or people tend to think about African slaves walking in chains and being beaten. History has shown and proven numerous account of slavery so how come when we think of slavery we seem to think of the stereotypical slavery (chattel slavery)? In fact, Classical Greece was the first society seen that had slave ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Racial Profiling is Necessary In order to understand racial profiling, it must first be correctly defined. Although different authors use different criteria for the term racial profiling, Merriam Webster s definition for the word racial is of, relating to, or based on a race (Merriam Webster, 2006; p.855). The definition the dictionary puts forth for profiling is the act of suspecting or targeting a person solely on the basis of observed characteristics or behavior (Merriam Webster, 2006; p.830). Based on these definitions, racial profiling could be defined for criminal justice purposes as targeting a person based solely on the characteristic of race. Most people, law enforcement officers included, would consider racial profiling based on this definition as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He actually went as far as to lay out the groundwork for ethical color profiling. First, the profile cannot be too broad and cannot include too many people as suspects (Corlett, 2006; p.28). Second, ethnic background of the witnesses from whom the profiles are drawn must be taken into account , meaning that if someone is racist or has other negative characteristics, the account of race might be false (Corlett, 2006; p. 28). Lastly, he argued that the same tactics must be used for everyone, no matter race, class, et cetera (Corlett, 2006; p.29). Other authors had opinions on the topic of racial profiling. In Crime and Policing in Rural and Small Town America, the authors bemoaned the lack of research that has been done about race and crime in suburban and rural areas, claiming that the research that abounds regarding urban areas is incompatible with suburban and rural areas (Weisheit, Falcone, and Wells, 2006; p.38). They believed that by putting more effort in to the area of race in rural and suburban areas, it will be proven that minorities are actually underrepresented in the justice system in rural areas (Weisheit, Falcone, and Wells, 2006; p.38). This argument could go further by saying that the current research that favors the critics side of racial profiling might be inaccurate. George M. Fredrickson s work focused on the history of racism from a historian s perspective and he believed that any profiling based on race is wrong (Fredrickson, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Essay On Invisible Man People often describe a point in their life where suddenly everything becomes clear. It may be an epiphany, offering meaning, purpose, or a path to self discovery. One event, conversation, or action may result in an illuminating moment changing the course of one s life. Oliver Wendell Holmes, a nineteenth century American poet, describes the lasting effects of this phenomena, a moment s insight is sometimes worth a life s experience . Three of the connections between social class and family include kin, child rearing, and education levels. To begin, kin is a part of the family, but there is a difference between kin ship among the poor and near poor. Kin is an important part of the family life because it is the connection between family and, sometimes, wealth. Who people associate in times of need and support greatly influence their lives and surroundings. In families, the father is seen as the main economic contributor and in crisis, a loss of a job, his authority will drop. This isn t the only loss he will face, he will also have a decreased self respect and other family members will treat him with less respect. On the contrary, if women were to lose her job, there wouldn t be the same treatment. In areas of chronic poverty, young mothers rely less on marriage and more on other kinship ties for support (Cherlin, 2013, p. 127). The poor is more likely to reach out or support more distant relatives than the other social classes. There is yet another difference between the nonpoor. The core of kinship among the nonpoor in the United States has been the conjugal family of wife, husband, and children (Cherlin, 2013, p. 128). Some ways in which people are influenced are positive, but others are harmful. In the society we live in, the harmful ways always outnumber the positive. Popular music has a negative effect on society and endorses a lack of creativity. Most popular music today is driven by violence and sex. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People hate the fact of the happening, not being with the popular crowd. Few teens try to develop independent minds because that would cause them to be creative and different. That brings us to another point that most popular music is neither unique nor creative. Just about all of the music coming out now is generally the same. It lacks creativity because artists are just in it to make money, not for the love of music. Society is force fed this bland music on a daily basis. Through radio stations and the emergence of MTV, new hit songs come out every week and people digest them, claiming to enjoy them just so that they appear to be versed on the latest on hit wonder groups. The more albums that are put out, the more money is made, as consumers shell out millions every week for something new to listen to, but are merely continuing to feed the frenzy of the popular music industry. Another harm this entertainment brings to society is it gives the media an easy scapegoat. When some atrocity gains national attention, the first thing that is thought of is music and entertainment. Through this quote it is learned of the significance of the Catholic Church saw to staying together and avoiding a schism( a split between parties based on different beliefs). The Catholics believed that in the event of a break in the church would cause a great disaster because they believed that the church needs to stay together as a whole or it would be blasphemy, and heresy. The Church also believed that if the church was to have a schism it would destroy the unity and sanctity of the church. This in fact would be believed to take away from the church in the manner of it not being the only church with the same mission. Therefore when King Henry VIII ( the second Tudor, monarch, who ruled from 1509 1547) separated from the Catholic Church it went completely against the mission that St. Augustine was trying to teach us through his comments about the church having a schism. The dangers it could have caused were believed to lead to a destruction of the church and lead to the end of the Catholic Church all together. The Amended Complaint alleges in general that Ms. Nathan Nenn executed a written lease to rent a house from the insureds starting on June 1, 2013. The plaintiffs further allege that starting on the day the plaintiffs took possession of the house, the drain in the kitchen sink was not working and the insureds failed to correct this condition. The complaint continues to allege additional deficiencies in the rental property such as mold growth in one of the bedrooms and in various locations of the house due to excess moisture and failure to patch exterior openings, insufficient heating, holes in the exterior walls, an unfinished deck, insufficient weather sealants, vermin in the crawlspace, frozen pipes and lack of running water. • 31. The Industrial Revolution Of The Middle East For millennia mankind has exhausted endless amounts of energy contemplating the eternally complicated system of war. From Gangas Khan to America s involvement in the Middle East, all successful generals, military leaders, and conquerors have found commonality in their zealous emphasis on, and desire for, possessing the most technologically advanced forms of weaponry. Such a desire was not ignored in America nor England during the Industrial Revolution, but, rather, was seen by many as an opportune investment during a time of extraordinarily progressive innovation. With this in mind the Industrial Revolution became heavily involved with the advancement of weaponry, forever changing the face of war unlike any era before it. The industrial revolution was a time of great change for both Europe and America. Inventions during this time (such as the cotton gin, the steam engine, sewing machine) stemmed from a seemingly never ending flow of revelation in thought. It is located in the circulatory system and it pumps blood along with other nutrients all through the body, which in turn keeps us alive. But, what is actually happening when it beats? Simultaneously, the heart is receiving deoxygenated blood and returning oxygenated blood to the body. It is made up of four chambers called the left and right atria, located on top, and the left and right ventricles, located on the bottom. The right atrium fills with blood from the veins and then contracts to send the blood to the right ventricle, which then sends oxygen rich blood to the lungs through arteries. At the same time, the left atrium fills with blood from the veins and then contracts sending blood to the left ventricle, which then sends blood to the rest of the body through arteries (Silverthorn). A pulse happens every time the heart contracts. Pulse in counted by the number of times an artery expands and contracts as a result of the heart beating. It is measured in number of beats per minute and is commonly written as bpm. There are seven arteries in the body used to measure pulse, here are a few: the radial artery, located on the thumb side of the wrist; the brachial artery, located on the inside of the arm at the elbow; and the carotid artery, located on the side of the neck (Silverthorn). Watson surmises that with this threat, politically active citizens were ripe for a political party system that would protect their independence and liberty. Enter Andrew Jackson, who appealed to those voters who felt threatened by the changing economic picture. Jackson and his supporters believed that the Republican/Whig political party represented an elitist, aristocratic government that would put the ever expanding economy and their own profit above the liberty and good of the majority and it was the good of the majority that Jackson would rely on with great success. He believed that the preservation of the Republic depended on the majority and the majority was represented by independent farmers, who were profiting the least from the Market Revolution. Believing that any government based on aristocracy could become corrupt, he felt that that the best way was to treat all of the citizens alike and turn the rule of the country over to the majority. This majority, with the fiery General Andrew Jackson as their leader, would create the Democratic Party. Watson s focus on political parties, chapter 6, is an important part of this book. One of the earliest methods of classical conditioning for reading in children can occur during infancy. Infants have stranger anxiety starting from nine months of age, and always feel the need to be close to parents or caregivers. As a result, if the parents or caregivers read to their children, the children can associate reading with a pleasant interaction from the parents. Emerging from infancy, there are also many precautions that can be taken to get children to read in their early years. For example, Parents can convey important positive impressions about reading by making reading an experience their children will remember and cherish ( What Parents Can Do, 2015). The core attributes are deep rooted, regardless of the reconstituted origin story and multitude of practical effects, which act as a pleasant diversion, but produce a distracting incongruity when paired with Victorian set design.
