combusting magnesium. In this lab, the polished magnesium ribbon was placed in covered
crucible and was heated in order for it to react with Oxygen presented in air and in water provided.
The result showed that Magnesium oxide formed through chemical reaction was made up of
60.19% magnesium and 39.81% oxygen, which is approximate proportion of both particles in

Between the two books, Farewell, My Lovely and The Maltese Falcon, we find many similarities
from the purpose of the plot to the characters within. Both books are a fan of the hardboiled
detective and are set within the state of California. The main characters of both books share
many different traits that define them as hardboiled detectives. To be a hardboiled detective one
must have the utmost attention to detail, be independent of personal ties, must live within the
hustle and bustle of city life, and must be a strong man always willing to be physical if needed.
Within both of these novels we see Spade and Marlowe match up with many of these
characteristics, while also being developed under different circumstances to result in different
personalities and stories. I believe that both Spade and Marlowe, in their own unique ways,
embody what it means to be a hardboiled detective. From the very beginning of both novels, the
first things that a reader notices about each detective is how he describes people and places
around him. Although the Maltese Falcon is written in the third person, we see very vivid
descriptions of the characters within. For a reader, these great, vivid descriptions really help the
book come alive as though watching a movie. While reading this novel, I noticed myself seeing
these descriptions as less of the narrator s description and more of how Sam Spadesees the world

to the overwhelming amount of the non native pythons in the Everglades (which is expanding to
the Florida Keys and beyond) there has been a ban on Burmese pythons and 3 other constrictor
