Long Term Effects Of The Holocaust
The Holocaust was a tragedy. According to ushmm.org, The Holocaust was the systematic,
bureaucratic, state sponsored persecution and murder of six million Jews by the Nazi regime and
its collaborators . This is a perfect explanation of the Holocaust seeing that so many innocent
people were killed. If they weren t they inevitably went through a great deal of pain whether it be
from the abuse or watching all of their loved ones die. The Holocaustwas intolerably devastating for
many, tight quarters in all ghettos, and gruesome experiments on twins caused extreme pain for
over 3,000 twins (thoughtco.com).
Resources were lacking in all respects during the Holocaust. Scarcity of necessities made life in
the ghettos tortuous, at best mildly tolerable. The ghettos were broken down in many ways. The
plumbing was horrific, there was garbage everywhere especially in the streets, as well as human
defecation. These conditions, as well as tight quarters made the ghettos a breeding ground for
numerous diseases. Once the diseases started spreading there was no good way to stop it because
the immune systems of many were compromised, as a result of the almost nonexistent rations of
food they were provided. To remedy this many of the small children would squeeze through the
barriers of the ghetto and find food. However, they did this at great risk because if caught there
would be severe consequences, if not execution. In addition, winters were even worse, on account
of the fact that many

Personal Identity Argument
Unity as an Argument for Personal Identity
This essay will discuss the idea that personal identity persists over time. It will start by briefly
analysing some philosophical approaches to the problem, with views from RenГ© Descartes, G.W.
Leibniz, Thomas Reid, Ludwig Wittgenstein, John Perry and Derek Parfit. Also in the discussion,
the concept of psychological continuity will be presented, and also its reaches and limits. I will,
then, introduce the concept of unity as a consequence of personal continuity, and its compelling
argument for the persistence of personal identity. As a conclusion, some suggestions as to where the
discussion of personal identity should advance will be recommended.
1. A Fundamental Philosophical Problem
The attempt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The same is true for the mind of the person s identity: is it possible to re identify a person based on
his/her continuity? How can I know if the continuity was affected or remained the same?
The first difficulty is thus revealed: if there is continuity, then, there must be something that
continues. In the proposal of continuity of personal identity it is not necessary that there be an
element that continues. Wittgenstein uses the thread analogy to explain this concept: [...] the
strength of the thread does not reside in the fact that some one fibre runs through its whole length,
but in the overlapping of many fibres. .
We have, then, an alternate proposition to that of substantial criteria to understand personal identity.
Over time, personal identity is no longer thought as what persists , but how it persists . We persist
over time because of certain continuity. But in what consists this

What Is The Theme Of Poverty In Charles Dickens
England was rapidly becoming urban society. But in spite of wealth created by industrialization,
people still suffer from poverty. There are many factories but in a miserable state, low wages
and harsh conditions. Industrial Revolution creates a middle class (neither rich nor poor). The
irresponsible of practices of social institutions, as well as the evasion and abuses of
responsibility by individuals, a reality which expresses the general atmosphere of man s isolation
and disintegration. Some novelists, like Dickens has revealed the world of the poor class in his
novels and reinforced his novels with factual details [ that ] .. really shocked the novel readers. 20
of his time. The theme of Povertyis one of the main problems that Charles Dickensfocuses on and
attempts to draw attention of his readers to. Poverty is a serious and economic problem of
English society of the late 19th century. This is why Dickens, chooses it as one of the main
themes of his novel and also tries to describe the appearance of the poor people. They are not
human but they look like animals. The man s face was thin and very pale; his hair and beard were
grizzly, and his eyes were bloodshot. The old woman s face was... Show more content on

The crime against the child, 21 as Dorothy Van Ghent suggests is a theme which arrests Dickens s
attention as early as his second novel, Oliver Twist. What is to be noted in tracing Dickens s
treatment of this theme is that Oliver s suffering is primarily physical and external, but Dickens s
later vision of childhood suffering shows interest in human psychology. Alex Zwerdling maintains
that, by the time Dickens has written Dombey and Son, he has become more interested in the child
deprived of love than food and shelter.

The Dangers Of Secondhand Smoke
Visualize a world where no one smoked, now how clean the air would be. Imagine the improvement
over humanities overall health. Second hand smoke is smoke inhaled involuntarily from tobacco
being smoked by others, which is currently a problem here in the United States. The General
Surgeon of the United States Departments of Health and Human Services explains Secondhand
smoke causes approximately 7,330 deaths from lung cancerand 33,950 deaths from heart disease
each year (2014). Many incorporations, not just in the United States, but also all over the world are
trying to raise awareness on the negative effects of secondhand smoke and are trying to put an end

Looking at the advertisement as a whole you can interpret that the main graphic in the image is
the young boy, he is simply standing there with an innocent look on his face being choked.
When you look closer you can see that the hand that is choking him is simply made out of
smoke. Which is where the words across the bottom of the image come into play, Your smoking
harms your child (Smokefree). Smokefree has already gained the viewers attention with the
graphic meaning that from that point on they are thinking about the advertisement and the
information showed. Advertisements have shown to be more effective when there is more of a
connection made between the viewer and the topic. In this case, second hand smoking does
harm your child. Although many parents that do smoke think that as long as their child is a
couple feet away that it is fine to smoke but sadly it is not. The smoke that you are exhaling is
going right into the air and being inhaled by your child, practically choking them. SmokeFree uses
a small innocent child to add emotion into the advertisement, if they were to just put a picture of
an adult or even an animal it wouldn t make that much of an impact as it does seeing an innocent
child being choked by the smoke. Seeing a small innocent child being choked by the smoke is
trying to reach out and show parents what is really happening to their small children. It s different

The Clothing Styles By Christian Dior
Fashion By taking a look at the clothing styles worn by a group of individuals, we can
comprehend a great fragment regarding the prevailing social values of the generation. Polyester
was the material of choice and bright colours were everywhere. Men and women alike, wore
tight fitting pants and platform shoes. Christian Dior In 1947 the French designer Christian
Dior dispatched his Corolle line, a collection re establishing and modifying the square
shouldered and straight female figure after the disruptions of World War II. Dior s revolutionary
design became embellished and overvalued, characterised by dresses featuring delicate
shoulders, a vaguely padded bodice, low neckline, a small waist, and a full skirt flaring out
starting the hips and grazing the calves. What was so diverse about Dior s look was in its
abundance the excessive use of luxurious fabrics and time intensive labor. The overly female
form that he presented was created through the use of padded hips and bust lines. (Walford, n.d).
Nylon Stockings Numerous fashionable traits make a rebound. Once again, the nylon stockings
became extremely trendy and sales skyrocketed (Lindop, n.d). There wasn t a fashionable
woman alive who couldn t wait to jump into the latest pair. (Glamour Daze, 2012). Wedge Heels
Regarding shoes, women still wore wedge heels yet now with shallower wedges. (Glamour Daze,
2012). New styles appeared that comprised of more fragile, high heeled court shoes, or shoes finely

U.s. War On Terrorism Essay
The United States vision of and for the world changed dramatically, and perhaps permanently, on
September 11, 2001. The aftermath frightened and impacted the nation s reputation, and in order
to measure the nature and extent of our policies, it is important to understand our efforts after this
national attack on US soil. Many interesting documents released earlier that year provides a
detailed perspective of America s economic policies and actions towards the War on Terror. The
U.S. came out with a massive debt that has impacted the nation in several ways, but this leads to a
basic question with a complex answer: How did the U.S. War on Terrorismimpact the American
Debt Crisis? After researching further into the 9/11 attacks, clearly most of the money put into
the war was wasted or misspent. Even though it was crucial going after the terrorists, especially
since they had taken many lives and were capable to repeating their attack caused fear throughout
the nation. It is important to signal out that the U.S. was attacked from a terrorist organization
that had their focus on the U.S. for a long time. The impact that this served after 9/11 plays a clear
role in defining the results of how these economic policies were taken into action. After looking
over this tragic event in the U.S. history, there should have been a very high consideration towards
how the money was going to be used in an effort to defeat terrorismbefore this event occurred. The
top priority for the U.S. has

The Impossibility Of Religious Freedom
The act of defining religion has been a contentious issue in a wide variety of situations, particularly
in the United States. The US is a nation that prides itself on religious inclusivity and freedom. There
are consequences to this belief and tenant. Through the social, legal and moral structures of the
United States, defining religionhas become imperative. In The Impossibility of Religious Freedom,
Winifred Sullivan outlines the legal implications of defining religion in the United States. In order
for religious freedom to be protected by the American state, religion must be clearly defined. As a
result, religious theory must be used to maintain some semblance of religious freedom in the United
States. Likewise, Josh Dubler s Down in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While there are specificities of the case that can help determine the individualized outcome of
this particular case, the foundations of the legal problems in the case can be expanded to
greater problems of religious definition in the United States. As shown through The
Impossibility of Religious Freedom, religious theory is vital to the continuation of religious
freedom protections, for better or worse, in the United States. The case that is highlighted by
Sullivan revolves around the ability for citizens to use religious items around burial sites that
extend beyond the city of Boca Raton s regulatory codes. When some of these religious items
around the burial sites were not permitted by the city, a group of citizens sued the city on the
grounds that the city was preventing actions protected by the religious freedom clauses of the US
Constitution. This case, like many others involving religious freedom decisions, required a real
definition of religion. Religious theory was imperative to the outcome of this case. Sullivan
writes, If religion was whatever anyone said it was, the statute was unworkable and [Judge
Ryskamp] did not feel it was his place to simply dismiss an act of the Florida legislature as
nonsense. Religion therefore had to be measured and bounded by an expert test... (Sullivan 105).
These tests were determined by various religious scholars, including Sullivan, that testified in this
case. Religious theory,

Human Inquiry vs Everday Assumptions
Much of the publics conceived notions about the world and the reality in which we innately live,
can be explained by contrasting our assumptions against various types of inquiry and research.
The process of developing an explanation through testing, investigating, and collecting data that
either refutes or supports the original claim is known as inquiry, or the process of researching.
While that which is presupposed, or a belief that is used to interpret the world around us, is an
assumption. Naturally, we regularly formulate our beliefs based upon our assumptions and make
inferences based from these assumptions, however, today this is often done with little regard to
critical thinking or reason. Furthermore, out of naivetГ© we seek to refute conclusions to that
which we do not want to belive, pursuing a form of bias from those holding assumptions similar to
what we desire; for in such manner, we justify our rejection of the undesirable. On the contrary, we
hastily accept an assumption that supports a conclusion we perceive desirable, while giving little
mind to the validity of the assumption, or the awareness of a becomingly tolerant society toward
improper inquiry. This is human nature, it s unavoidable, but the ignorance thereof, serves as the
catalyst to our own servility by standing as the largest hinderance toward proper inquiry and
research. Humans can be placed in any situation and we will start to give it some kind of meaning
in hopes to gain a basis for

Why The Varsity Team Lose For The Junior Varsity Teams
1. Why does the Varsity team lose to the Junior Varsity team? The Varsity team lost to the Junior
Varsity team because of their individualistic mindset. The coach of the Army Crew team admits
to putting together the best crew athletes together on the Varsity team. As Making Star Teams
Out of Star Players discusses, putting the best individuals together seems appropriate on paper,
but often ignores the soft skills necessary to work together as a team. Because the coach focuses
on the individual talents of the Varsity Crew team he creates an air of competitiveness within
each member, instead of how they can work together. The goal of the team is not greater than
that of the individual and no one wants to be the weakest link so they overcompensate their own
skills. Every member of the Varsity crew team believes he is compensating for the other members
and blames other members for the failure of the team, which shows a lack of team mentality and
strong leadership. Through overcompensating, as stated in the case study, that throws off the
balance of the boat because one member being off pace causes slower speeds. Also, through
pitting the Varsity team against the Junior Varsity team it adds to the divisive culture within the
whole Army Crew team. The coach also does not create any positive feedback for the weaker links
on the team to work with. Instead of telling the team they ALL did well, the coach focuses on who
are the better athletes. As a result, the members feel

Applying Two Kinds Of A Spherically Symmetric...
In this work, we consider two kinds of a spherically symmetric semiconductor quantum dots: (a)
type I single quantum dot (SQD) with radius r_1, in which electrons and holes are confined in the
same region of space, and (b) type II core/shell quantum dot (CCQD) with the same core radius,
r_1, coated with shell thickness t=r_2 r_1, in which the spatial confinement of electrons and holes
depends strongly on the geometrical parameters (core radius and shell thickness) and strain effects.
Due to the potential structure of CdSe/CdTe CCQD, electrons mainly reside in the CdSe core
region, while the holes dwell mainly in the CdTe shell region. This separation is shown in Fig. 1.
For clarity, we designate the band gap energy, the conduction band minimum (CBM) and the
valence bandmaximum (VBM) of bulk semiconductormaterials in the unstrained case by E_g0^i,
E_c0^i and E_v0^i, respectively. E_c^i and E_v^i denote the bulk band edges of each
nanoheterostructure compound including strain effect. In this paper, the index i=1,2,3 refers to
the CdSe region (1), CdTe region (2) and the external medium (3), c(v) holds for conduction
(valence) band and e(h) holds for electron (hole). E_g and V_(e(h)) are the bulk gap energy and
the electron (hole) confining potential of strained hetero nanocrystal, respectively. In Fig 1, Оµ_1,
Оµ_2 and Оµ_3 are dielectric constants of core, shell and external medium, respectively. For
simplicity, we assume that the potential outside each kind of nanocrystal is

Psychoanalytic Theory Of Erik Erikson
Christina Gogh EECE 310 W Professor Rhodd 11/10/17 Erick Erickson Erik Erikson is known
for his psychoanalytic theory of psychosocial development comprising eight stages from infancy
to adulthood. Psychologist Erik Erikson, is a major contributor to developmental psychology,
who proposed a comprehensive theory of the ways that individuals develop their identity, a
sense of who they are, and society s influence on that development. Erikson stated that people go
through crisis at each stage of their lives. The stages each had a developmental task to be
mastered. As an individual resolved these various crises an individual would have a better
harmony with their social environment that they live in. If an individual could not successfully
resolve a crisis, they would be out of step , and the individual would have a greater difficulty in
their dealing with a crisis in the future. Erikson did however recognize that an individual can
develop through a stage negatively and still go on with their life. Erikson stated that each of the
psychological stages have a basic conflict and important event leading to growth. The theory was
developed from his hundreds of clinical observations in children. Identity is central to Erikson s
thinking. Erikson coined the term identity crisis . Erikson lived such a crisis in his own life. At a
young age Erikson found out his father was really his stepfather. Erik Homberger Erikson was born
on June 15, 1902 in Frankfurt, Germany to his mother

Digital technology can provide opportunities for enhancing these experiences in a number of
ways. They may offer information before a visit. During a visit users might want information or
to communicate in some way. Mobile devices can be location aware. For example, this can be
done using QR codes. A QR (Quick Response) code (see image below) is a matrix barcode which
can be scanned by a device fitted with a camera (such as a smart phone). A user could scan a code
next to an exhibit to launch some location based service. And after the visit there may be some
follow up activities, perhaps using information about what interested them.

On the rotating table there were open books and the men would turn the table and without any
hesitation continued to sing. Around 9:30 is when the church began to fill up and that is when
the Priest and two Bishops came out. The Priest wore his stole, which is like a long scarf,
around his neck and hanging to the floor on either side of him. The Deacons wore their stole
vestments across their body diagonally. There was also a group of 4 boys that helped on the Alter
whom also wore robes and they would enter and exit through the Angel Doors also known as
Deacon s Doors. Each time they went through the doors they kissed the icon on the door. There
were times when the church would stand and times when everyone in the church would sit and
these motions were all dictated by the Priest that made gestures to the crowd.
The Priest was the leader in charge and everybody else worked around him. The service looked
organized because everyone knew where they were supposed to be at a given time. During the
service, the deacons would go around and swing the censer which was burning incense. The Altar
boys would do things like hold the book as either the priest or one of the deacons read from it.
They also carried candles at specific times such as when the deacon walked around and showed the
Gospel.
At the beginning of the mass the priest spoke to the children casually and asked them questions
such as what was so special about today. Children answered that

episodes that can last up to seven days, or experiencing a state of mania so severe that one must

which can last two weeks or more. The NIMH defines bipolar II disorder as a pattern of

Gustav Mahler was born in 1860 in the small town of Kalischt, Bohemia. He was a late romantic
era composer. He was one of the leading conductors of his generation. Mahler was a bridge between
the 19th century Austro German tradition and the modernism of the early 20th century. In 1897 he
was the director of the Vienna Court Opera. He stayed in Vienna for 10 years, but during that time
he got a lot of opposition from the Anti Semitic Press. His awesome productions and high
production standards gave him the name of Greatest of Opera Conductors. Composing was only
his part time job as living as a conductor was his full time. Most of his pieces are for large
orchestra forces, symphonic choruses, and operatic soloists.

He left his school in 1878 with a diploma but no silver medal for outstanding achievement. Gustav
went to the University of Vienna for a year studying litature and philosophy. He than went on to
becomes a piano teacher, while still composing. His first composition while including other
influences also had something else that some called Pure Mahler. His first performance was
delayed till 1901 so they could make a shortened version of it. Gustav was interested in German
Philosophy and got introduced to the works of Arthur Schopenhauer, Friedrich Nietzsche, Gustav
Fechner and Hermann Lotze. These thinkers influenced Gustav s music long after his student years.
In 1881 Mahler did his first full scale opera with a small but resourceful company. After his six
month engagement he returned to Vienna and worked as a part time chorus master. In 1883
Mahler started his first real job as a conductor but had a poor relationship with the orchestra but
despite that he made 5 new operas there and won over the press that earlier had insulted his
work. He then went on to the Royal Theater and after only a week was titled the theaters musical

ability to adapt to fluctuations according to demand, accelerate development work, and provides
potential for cost reduction through optimized and efficient compu ting [3,5].Cloud computing is
buzz word of IT industry today and present everywhere and every one s mind. Cloud computing is

computing is a box of several concepts such as virtualization, Service oriented architecture (SOA),
web 2.0 and many more. In some respects, Cloud Computing represents the maturing of these
technologies and is a marketing term to repre sent that maturity and the services they provide

The Religious Issues Of The Malay Population During...
Part one: essay proposal (200 300 words)
a) Giving a brief explanation of the scope of the essay (the figure you will examine, the time
period, geographical focus, etc).
Question: How did the British managed the religious issues of the Malays during colonial rule in
Singapore?
Through an analysis of the Maria Hertogh riot case study, we are able to gain deeper insights
into British s colonial policies in their management of the religious issues of the Malay
population in the post 1945 era. At the same time this also allows us to see how race intersect
with class as the Malay population constitutes the lower income class in Singapore at that time.
Using Maria as a case study, we are also able to see how gender interact with race and class during
colonialism as things may have turned out differently if the child in case was a boy instead.
b) Outlining your key research questions and the conclusions that you have drawn from your
research thus far.
1.Did British mismanaged sensitive religious issues pertaining to the Malays during colonial rule?
2.Did the British pursue a strict policy of resistance in their religious policies?
This ethnic conflict has been widely argued to be the consequence of a mismanagement of the
religious issues of the Malay population by the British. However, it would be inaccurate to solely
blame the British s policies for triggering the riots as they were other factors that led to the riots
such as the media and the hidden motives of the

The Existence Of Latin American Culture
The question of what exactly Latin American culture is was brought up very early in the text. Does
Latin American culture exist outside of the european spectrum it has been put in? Was there ever
such a thing as latin american culture in the first place?
Although this question sounds merely ignorant and condescending, it is in fact questioning the
very existence of Latin American people in what is now known as the American Continent.
According to Retamar, these questions of existence have to do with colonialism, neo colonialism
and imperialism. All three are used to suppress the voice and expression of people of color all
throughout the Americas causing a cultural hierarchy that does not express the true nature of Latin
America and is forcing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Retamar, Sarmiento represents all of the pro United States, pro capitalist, ethnocentric, and
racist values that MartГ opposes (25). MartГ s vision of a mestizaje culture, on the other hand, is
the only authentic aesthetic for Latin America. Retamar goes further than MartГ in his proposition:
he argues that the only way to realize this authentic mestizaje culture is through a socialist
revolution: Our culture is and can only be the child of revolution, of our multisecular rejection of
all colonialisms (38). Therefore, he views the Cuban Revolution as a great success despite its
imperfect outcomes and as an exemplary move for all of Latin America. For Retamar, the European
educated elite is the bourgeoisie while the mestizo population is the proletariat. While the
bourgeoisie continues to hold a monopoly over culture, the general population has no agency.
Therefore, a socialist system is a way to ensure the democratization of education and economic
resources in order to reclaim culture for the

The War Of 1812 And The United States
The War of 1812 is the second war between the United States of America and Great Britain that
ends in a draw. Also referred to as the Second War of Independence, the cause of this military
conflict is often believed to be a direct result of England s attempt to humiliate the United States,
limit the country s growth and impact (acts of interference towards American trade, which is a sign
of disrespect towards American independence), and acts of impressment (taking sailors off
American vessels and forcing them into providing services for the British Royal Navy). Although
the ultimate outcome of the War of 1812results in a tie, the Americans have faced several challenges
during the presence of their second dispute with Britain. Arguably, the main reason that caused the
United Statesto struggle during this Second War of Independence, is how unprepared the nation is
when it comes to fighting another series of battles.
During the War of 1812, the power of the army and navy forces in the United States of America
seems to be lacking in both its quantity and quality value of soldiers, weapons, and supplies. In
comparison to Great Britain, who, at the time, has the leading military in the world, boasting both
a powerful army and navy, the Americans appears to be at a clear disadvantage. According to
primary and secondary sources on www.napoleanseries.org, during the War of 1812, there were
approximately 250,000 soldiers in the British Army and approximately 500

Nursing Observation Report
In every organization there is always room for change. Interning at Queens Endoscopy Center
has shown me that. The first few weeks interning I noticed there could be more signs up for
directions. The endoscopy center is located in a building with many floors and this center is on
the 3rd floor. Once patients get out the elevator there is no sign on which direction to turn to get
to the front desk. There is just one door leading to another. I would like to put up more arrows
and signs to guide the patient in the directions to go to. If I were to get lost by not knowing where
to go, I felt others would as well. Another change that I would like to partake in would be the
communication between the front desk staff and the nurses. There is a lot of confusion that occurs

I would like for them to make sure this does not happen often since it leaves patients being
unhappy. In order to fix this there can be more staff just making sure the system is updated since
there are different physicians as well as many patients assigned to each of these doctors. Lastly,
id likes to eliminate some of the paper work still. I know it is hard to get rid of paper but I feel
that loads of paper is being wasted here. I notice that a lot of elderly people come to this center
and have not been up to date with technology and this is where the paper work comes in. I would
like to promote the access of patients to there own health record online. If they want to see the
pictures they can have access rather then it all being printed. It is not hard for an elderly or any
other patient to use this patient management system on his or her own. Overall, patients getting lost
to just finding this center get them frustrated just the start of their visit and no one would want that.

Leon Trotsky, a Leader of the Bolshevik Revolution and...
Most historians agree that throughout his political career Trotsky displayed various talents and
abilities. However, these skills alone were not enough to enable him to become the supreme
leader of the USSR. In the context of the workings of the Bolshevik party to rise to the highest
office of the politburo required certain traits and qualities as well as an ability to utilise the party
machine and exploit its members talents, traits and qualities Trotsky clearly lacked. For these
reasons the statement is highly accurate because in spite of his ability, Trotsky s failure to rise to
the highest office in the land was a consequence of his arrogance, political naivety and inability to
turn success into political capital.
This statement is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the many roles that Trotsky undertook in his political career, notably Commissar
for War prove that Trotsky was most definitely the most able of men . According to Service,
Trotsky as Commissar for War surprised everyone with his organisational capacity and
ruthlessness as he transformed the Red Army into a fighting force . During his role as
commissar Trotsky was able to increase the size of the Red army to three million, introduced
conscription, maintained obedience and discipline by enforcing the oath of the red warrior and
the death penalty for deserters and used ex Tsarist officers to assist in the organisation of the army.
Trotsky s ability to successfully transform the Red Army and the significant role he played in Civil
War are largely the reason for the Bolshevik victory and further highlight that Trotsky was the most
able of men .
However, despite his ability Trotsky was not able to rise to the highest office in the Land, as he
lack political motivation, the personality traits required and a utilisation of the party apparatus.
Trotsky despite his talents and status as a communist leader was disliked by his peers. His
arrogance, condescension and perceived intellectual superiority alienated many of members of the
politburo. If in an address that bored Trotsky he was known to have openly read a novel instead.
Lenin himself raised concerns regarding the assured arrogance of Trotsky in his last testament

There is always something different, which is put into the movie to make it more exciting or
quicker. With True Grit, both movies show a number of differences, from characters to scenes or
settings and so on. The first film there was many character differences for instance, Mattie s hair
was short, she had a bob instead of two braids like it stated in the book, but in the latest film she
had two braids. In real life they also possess some character differences, in the first film the girl
who was casted as Mattie Ross, Kim Darby played her character at the age of 21 and the second
movie Mattie Ross was played by Hailee Stienfeld at the age of 13 close to Mattie s real age.
When producers, directors, or writers decide to make movies or television series out of books,
they are not always the same. There is always something that has been changed or added to
series that is different from the book. For instance, the hanging scene, in the book it described
that the crowd was singing and the three men had a chance to speak before they got hung. The
hanging scene was one scene that stood out to me, in the book it states that the man with bible led
the crowd to sing Amazing Grace , and the three men that were being hung had something to say
(Portis, 22). The first one was a white man, he said he killed the wrong man that s why he is here,

Social Interaction Sociology
Social Interaction is the process in which two or more people act and react to those around them.
A field of study called Microsociology or Social Interaction was created by a sociologist by the
name of Erving Goffman. Goffman argued that these significant figures are important in the field
of sociology and should be consider carefully. Social interaction includes several different types of
behavior. This field called Social interaction is divided into five concepts such as Exchange,
competition, Cooperation, Conflict, Coercion. In our everyday lives we use each of these concepts,
whether it s in our schools, homes, work, etc.
Exchange
Exchange is one of the most basic concept of social interaction. Whenever an individual interacts to
receive something from another individual that, he/she has given to; That is how exchange has
been taken place. Exchange is being taken place in my school the University of Belize where by, I,
the student is being offered an education from my school and in return I should give them
money. Another example of how exchange is being made in our everyday lives where in a work
site, the employee accomplishes a role of task for their work and in return they receive a salary.
Also for instance in a competition the runner up should show case his/her talent and in return they
received an award by the person who s hosting the competition. All these scenarios are how
exchange happens in our lives. All exchanges must be equal or fair between each

Evaluation Of A Hypothesis Test Technique
When seeking to determine additional information needed to know from the pollster, mainly my
first task would be to inquire which hypothesis test technique was utilized. Moreover, once that
was known and established and the correct hypothesis test was used then it would be much easier
to analyze the results. Furthermore, it is essential to determine and know the direction of the test
to use such as would we utilize a two tailed test, an upper tailed test, or a lower tailed test
(Mirabella, 2011).
Additionally, when hoping to gain more information from pollsters in reference to support of
voters in the election for the candidates, first and foremost I would desire to know many important
variables needed to determine which direction to go in to make the correct decision on choosing a
hypothesis test. First, I would desire to know the level of measurement used, meaning was the
measurement nominal, ordinal, or scale. Second, I would need for the pollsters to provide me
information on which type of parametric test can be used? Should we utilize a parametric test?, In
which a set of assumptions must be met (Mirabella, 2011, p. 5 1). In performing a parametric test,
it is essential to know if the data is normally distributed.
Furthermore, we may have to determine to perform a nonparametric test. Thirdly, how many
samples are involved? Such as, were there one, two, or three or more samples. And lastly, if we are
utilizing two or more samples are the cases related

What Is A Hero?
An extremely popular film, titled American Sniper, was released just last year. Chris Kyle is the
main character in this incredible true story. In a flashback, his father said, There are three types
of people in the world: the sheep, the wolf, and the sheepdog. The sheep are the people that
depend on everyone to protect and look after them. The wolf is the man who attempts to bring
down society and make life unbearable for the sheep. The sheepdog is a rare breed, they stand up

First, every variety of heroes must have honor. Honor is important because all heroes go through
times or dangerous situations in which they don t always do everything correctly. For example,
a police officer shoots and/or injures a man because he was in fear of his own life, but it was not
the right move. This officer s supervisor is infuriated with this decision, the officer could have
simply called for backup, being that he was alone when the scenario went down. Even though the
officer may not completely agree, he must honor the chief s decision in what his consequences
may be. Also, it is imperative that all heroes be honorable; however, they do not have to be
honored. The people who do an affectionate deed and demand that people reward is a selfish fool.
The hero is a man who will put their life on the line for others and not assert anyone to honor him.
An extraordinary example of this act would be of Spider Man. Spider Man is a comical superhero
who has the fantastic advantages that a spider attains. Advantages such as webbing, ability to
attach himself to walls, and his incredible spider sense (spider sense is the ability to sense when
there is danger coming). This hero jumps into burning buildings and saves lives, yet he does not
require anything in return. Meanwhile, there is a mad newspaper writer named Jonah Jameson
that is infuriated with him and believes he is a fake. Jameson has all the power he needs; he

powerful man is attempting to change people s opinion about him, he doesn t need people to honor

The Doctrine Of Christian Universalism
The Doctrine of Christian Universalism
Archie J. Spencer, Th.D
THS 540: Introduction to Christian Theology
Shahrzad Jamali
ACTS Seminaries
Fall 2017
Universalism is perhaps the greatest unspoken premise of modern thought within the Christian
church.
N.T wright The salvation of humankind has been always presented in 3 possible positions: 1)
none will be saved, 2) some will be saved, or 3) all will be saved. The traditional Christian
teaching has been always focused on the second position and maintained that only some of people
will be saved. But there have been ongoing debates within this position about who exactly will be
the saved group? And what will be the condition of the lost ones?
Christian Universalism is a school of Christian theology that is focused on the doctrine of universal
salvation. This doctrine holds the third position and believes that eventually all human beings,
regardless of their faith, will be saved and will enjoy everlasting life with Christ. This doctrine has
been presented differently by those who advocated it throughout the centuries and various labels
have been used to refer to this doctrine, including Universal restoration , universal restitution ,
universal reconciliation , and universal salvation. Universalism is also closely related with other
complicated theological issues, such as the relationship between God s nature, his love and His
justice, free will and predestination, and the retributive punishment. Therefore, it

This unnatural land split ignored ethnic realities, fueling tensions on both sides. South Ossetia
declared independence from Georgia on November 28, 1991. No one seemed to notice much.
Prominent western European nations did not rush to acknowledge the South Ossetians claim to
independence. NATO recognized the area as a legitimate region of Georgia. Simmering dissension
burst into flames when the Georgian military rolled into South Ossetia on Aug. 7 in response to

President Dmitry Medvedev challenged Georgia s sovereignty by sending troops onto foreign,

Vigorous land and air assaults, coupled with encroachment further south beyond South Ossetia s

The Old Testament descriptions of God are applied to Jesus by both Matthew (Matt 3:3, Isa. 40:3)
and John (John 12:41, Isa. 6:1). Jesus disciples were convinced He was God because he possessed
the attributes of God: Life (John 1:4), Self existence (John 5:26), Immutability (Heb. 13:8), Truth
(John 14:6), Love (I John 3:1), Holiness Luke 1:35), Eternity (John 1:1), Omnipresence (Matt.
28:20), Omniscience (Matt. 9:4), Omnipotence (Matt. 28:18). Dr. Wallace s textbook also provides
examples in Scripture where a) the works of God are ascribed to Jesus (John 1:3, Col. 1:17), b)
honor and worship due only to God is given to Jesus (John 5:23, Rom. 10:9, Heb. 1:6, Phil. 2:10
11, Rev. 5:12 14, and c) Jesus name is associated with that of God on an equal basis (Matt. 28:19, I
Cor. 1:3, II Cor. 13:14, John 5:23, John 14:1, Col. 3:1, John 5:18). Jesus promised to send a helper
to carry on His work. The promised Helper was the Holy Spirit. From the start He was recognized
as the third divine Person, as one who receives honor due only to God (I Cor. 3:16) and is
associated as an equal to God (Matt. 28:19, II Cor. 13:14). Peter said in Acts 5:3 4 that to lie to the
Holy Spirit is to lie to God. The Holy Spirit also has God s attributes ascribed to Him, such as Life

What was the effect of photography on painting in the nineteenth century? The photograph was
developed in 1839 simultaneously in England and France by Talbot and Daguerre. That is the
technique of chemically fixing of an image produced by exposure to rays of sun. William Fox
Talbot was an English scholar and scientist who developed the negative and positive process. He
used sensitive paper soaked in sodium hyposulphite called calotype. This became the basis for all
subsequent photography. Photography joined the art world after a long struggle. Although early
photography such as Daguerreotype and Calotype appeared by the mid 19th century, photographs

Two successful Munich portrait artists Franz Lenbach (1836 1904) and Franz Stuck (1863

Field Marshal von Moltke seem considerably more interesting than Lenbach s portraits. Other
artists closely linked with photography were the members of the enormously influential plein

photographic studies, he had no idea that Slevogt was already well versed in the practice. But
photography had its most dramatic effect on painting as a technology of reproduction. From the

George Bush Biography
Introduction
George W. Bush is one of the most controversial figures in recent memory. From his boyhood
boarding schools and military background to the election in 2000, Bush has been the beneficiary of
preferential treatment. Coming from a family of wealthy politicians and businessmen, he did not
have to want, or work very hard for anything. That is, until his presidency pushed him on to the
global scene making it nearly impossible to underachieve like he did in school and in the military.
Several encounters with both the law and the Securities and Exchange Commission weren t enough

After two years of piloting and logging over 336 flight hours, Bush requested to transfer to

work on the senate campaign of George H.W. s close friend William Blount. Before he could do
so, Bricken made it clear to Bush that he had not yet fulfilled the obligation agreed upon when
he entered the service, but Bricken approved his request anyhow. Much to the dismay of Bush,
on July 31, 1972, the Air Reserve Personnel Center (ARPC) overruled Bush s transfer request,
saying that he could not be reassigned to an Air Reserve Squadron in Montgomery because of
his service obligations. Against the orders of his superior officers, Bush relocated to Alabama
anyway, leaving his guard responsibilities unresolved. In August 1972, Bush was suspended from
flying due to his failure to report for a medical exam. Soon after, Bush reapplied for transfer to

Description Of A Multidisciplinary Psychological Treatment...
For my multidisciplinary psychological treatment center, the setting will be large yet calm and
homey place. This is so the client feels comfortable and safe when coming in for treatment. The
treatment center will be around three stories big. The first floor will be the lobby, waiting room,
and daycare. I will be dedicating an entire floor to this because, in my opinion, cramped and small
waiting rooms can make a client more nervous and anxious than they initially were coming in to
the building. The lobby will be where the patients/clients check in for the clients. I will have two
receptionists to make sure that lines do not get to long and any phone calls are answered in a timely
manner. Making the clients wait just to get into the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was not very pretty scene to watch. I believe that having daycare will attract more clients,
especially the ones who have kids or are planning on having kids someday soon. The second
floor will be dedicated to the traditional practice that is going to be featured at my treatment
center, which includes a professional counselor. I will recruit around six counselors. They will
be split up into groups of two, and each of the three groups will specialize in something different
to increase the diversity of the services offered at my multidisciplinary psychological treatment
center. The counselors will share an office and working space. I will make sure that the
counselors themselves are ethnically and culturally different. I will do this so I can ensure that
each counselor will approach a patient with a different approach instead of them doing everything
exactly alike. I believe that the key to a well working and successful treatment center is diversity.
The third floor will be where the nontraditional practices are located. The floor will be divided in
half; one side for the massage therapists and one side for personal trainers. I will have at least two
personal trainers and three massage therapists.
The types of disciplines I plan on having at my multidisciplinary

Copyright Law Limitations
Since the U.S. Copyright Act became law in 1790, the copyright term has been increasing.
Copyright is an intangible property right granted by federal statue to the author or originator of
certain literacy or outside productions. The first major change was the Copyright Act of 1976, it
gave American authors the right to print, re print, or publish their work for 14 years and then to
renew for another 14. In 1998, Congress passed the Sonny Bono CopyrightAct also known as the
Mickey Mouse Copyright Act, which extended protection from life of the author plus 70 years
as well as taking away the need for a copyright notice and registration. The result was that many
whom did not have copyright protection due to lack of copyright notice and registration were
now protected. Following the Mickey Mouse Copyright Act, they passed the Digital Millennium
Copyright Act which intended to create a new updated version of copyright laws to deal with the
challenges of regulating digital material. It aimed to protect the rights of both copyright owners
and consumers, and without it copyright owners would have a difficult time obtaining legal
action against those who copy copyrighted material. Copyright act laws should be extended for
various reasons, one is that, it gives the creator more time to profit from it and if the creator dies
early on it will be passed on to their family. Knowing that work will be copyrighted for a longer
time gives them a chance to encourage their creativity and

Economics of an Urgent Care Center in a Market of...
Economics of an Urgent Care Center in a Market of Emergency Departments
One of the contributors to the rising cost of Healthcare can be attributed to the over use of
emergency departments (EDs) for non emergency needs. In the greater Capitol/First/Beacon Hill
area there are three major hospitals (Virginia Mason, Harborview, and Swedish) with emergency
rooms and no urgent care centers with the exception of Group Health which is restricted to Group
Health insurance members.
The question I asked myself is, Why does Group Health have urgent care for their insurance plan
members and the major hospitals in Seattle do not.
Urgent vs. Emergency Care
A study by the CDC showed that approximately 70 % of emergency department visits can be ...

This will reduce the demand for ED visits and the ratio of patients with insurance to offset the cost
of uncompensated care. With a decrease in demand we should see a decrease in the cost of
emergency room visits as more patients get their non emergency care at urgent care centers. The
new healthcare reform will eventually reduce the burden on hospitals and insurance companies by
providing the means for everyone to have healthcare and increase the ratio of insured patients
seeking treatment.
Urgent Care Economics
Unlike an emergency department, urgent care centers do not charge facility fees. Insurance
companies and patients are only charged for services rendered. Urgent care centers provide a high
level of non emergency care at a similar cost as it would to visit a doctor s office which is about 1
/10th of the cost of an emergency room visit. This includes minor procedures such as lacerations
that need sutures, minor burns, casting of fractures, reduction of dislocated joints, and on the job
injuries.
Urgent care centers are for profit and are not required to provide indigent care, but do not have the
tax benefits of a not for profit hospital.
The quality of care in an urgent care center is just a good in an emergency department for non
emergency care. The differentiating factor is follow up care. Most emergency department
physicians do not see their patients for follow up care and only 2/3 of the patients will follow

Measuring The Distributional Characteristics Of L2 Input...
Given the two necessary conditions for measuring the distributional characteristics of L2 input
stated above, it becomes obvious that input variability differs fundamentally from the variability in
a TL construction (cf. section 2.3.2). The same conclusion can be drawn from the fact that non
robust input and the TL variable structure are proposed as two different, though closely related and
interacting, forces of interlanguage fossilization (Han, 2013) (see section 2.3.1). For simplicity,
variability in a TL construction will be referred to as construction variability in the remainder of this
dissertation proposal. To recapitulate, Han s (2014) conceptualization of the variability dimension
of L2 input robustness consists of the following levels: (a) one to one, or one TL form encoding one
meaning; (b) one to many, namely one TL form encoding multiple meanings across multiple
contexts, or (c) within the same context; and (d) many to one, or multiple TL forms encoding the
same or a similar meaning (see section 1.3). Though identical in terminology and entailment on the
surface, construction variability signifies (in)consistency in the form meaning function relations of
the TL in the prescriptive, categorical sense, and is generally stable in distribution. Input variability
denotes a TL construction s (in)consistency in the form meaning function mappings in discourse
episodes that make up the primary linguistic data immediately accessible to L2 learners. Whereas

What Is The Theme Of In High Dudgeon Poem
or fate . There is none to listen to their wails. In this poem, the poet reflects on the blistering heat
wave of 2015 that killed thousands. The people in Andhra are the worst sufferers of this
calamity. The protagonist, in In High Dudgeon , sees a cat with a pigeon in its jaws a situation
of imminent death. The spectacle makes him highly philosophic: Not able to live it s not possible
even to die . Friends no longer continue to be friends and he murmurs a song from a famous Hindi
film, Sangam: Dost dost naa rahaa pyaar pyaar naa rahaa . There is deception everywhere; even
filial relations have become ungrateful. It also reminds him about daughters, who turn ingrateful

The poet has used his keen scalpel satirically to pierce the sensitivity of the insensitive politicians
who rule and have the moral as well as constitutional responsibility to ameliorate the condition of
the suffering populace in the country, in particular, and in the world, at large. It is often said
that wisdom comes with age. The poems also have good pearls of wisdom for the younger
generation to learn; if, and only if, they want to usher into a country Where the mind is without
fear and the head is held high (Tagore 20). Of course, these poems are the pouring of a mature
mind that has learnt so many lessons from age and experience, and now wants to advise and
guide the generations to follow. It has been very pertinently said: the price of wisdom is above
rubies (Old Testament, Job, xxviii, 18), and Wisdom is of the soul ... is its own proof (Walt
Whitman, Song of the Open Road). However the greatest question is: Is our polity ready to accept
it? The book has material worth several research articles besides jolting the sensibility of our
insensitive people at the helm of affairs. The book exemplifies the truth that age can cripple body,

Human Rights Violations of North Korea
INTRODUCTION North Korea is possibly the least accessible, and the most brutal and repressive
country in the world. (Martin, 2006) Since its formation after World War II very little information
has left the country. What has left are the defectors and the stories of horrible atrocities against
humanity the government is bestowing upon its citizens. Classified as a democracy, it is just a
mask hiding the Kim Dynasty s totalitarian ways.
With its ideology of Juche, they have relied as little as possible on outside help. They rule and
produce on the inside, with only the close to communist China being its biggest factor for
production of money. Human rights are completely unheard of, and reports of torture within its
reform camps are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As well as having many similarities with Marxist and Stalinist ideologies, Maoist ideologies show
their influence as well. Today, outside analysts see little of Juche in North Korea. Much outside help
has come as far as economics. North Korea survives heavily on imports and exports through
China and other countries. Also, people have little influence on the choices made in government.
(Kang, 2001) The ruling party in North Korea is the Workers Party of Korea. This party has been
the only ruling party since the formation of North Korea. While other minor parties exist, they are
bound by the ruling party and their law. Elections within the party due occur, but there is never
more than one candidate that is selected by the party beforehand. The first and only president of
North Korea, Kim Il Sung, is the Eternal President. To this day no one takes his seat as President,
and the position is formally left open and empty. The next highest position in North Korean office
according to the Constitution is the Chairman of the National Defense Commission. The Chairman
commands the military and directs national defense for the state. Kim Jong Il, Kim Il Sung s son,
has taken this position since his father passed away in 1984, abolishing the reelection requirement
for the National Defense Commission, as well as commenting on there being no need for the return
of a presidential body. Kim Jong Il also

Alternative Fuels Essay 8
Alternative Fuels This day in age, one of the world s main concerns is energy. Currently, we rely
on petroleum to run our cars, and household central heat, and electricity in our homes. Petroleum is
not only limited, but it is also dirtying up the world s air, and depleting the ozone layer as it is
burned. Alternative fuels are one of the worlds most talked about issues, and many solutions have
been brought forth, yet none of them have been sophisticatedly acted upon. Through the list of pros
and cons, one shall determine the importance of alternative fuels, and how bad the pros outweigh
the cons, thus forcing the reality of the matter that we need to start moving towards these alternate
forms of energy, and fuel. Despite the minor... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would be quite a chunk out of one s pocket book, ranging in very high prices (Wikipedia).
Another non depleting energy vein that we are able to tap into is wind. Wind power is generated
when large, slow moving wind turbines are spun with the wind, thus causing a coil inside to
generate electricity. These are seen throughout the Great Plains, and many other flats. These are
generally not powerful enough, unless they are built in large numbers. Many times, around two
hundred are built in one area, to produce for the nearest city or town. Although these do produce
some good, usable energy, as with all things, they have some problems. Wind does not always
blow, and when the wind stops, so does the energy. Sun is not always shining, for solar energy, but
they have cells to store energy for nightfall. Wind Turbines are also a big concern for birds.
Migrating or locals, flying birds of all kinds are in danger from a twenty food diameter of
spinning death. This has been a concern of PETA and other animal protection agencies (CNN).
Another type of fuel is Biofuel. This type of energy is produced through different types of wastes.
Potato peels, whey, turkey guts, and frying oil are all types of wastes that can be converted into
biofuel. This is a relatively new scientific breakthrough in the hunt for a more efficient energy
source. The good thing about using biofuel is that it is clean, and can get rid of our wastes, while

Summary Of The Wicked Witch Of Darkwood
It all happened when my prodigy brother Sam was kidnapped by the wicked witch of
Darkwood. It was early in the morning when I woke up and discovered that Sam was missing. I
rushed to the front door calling Sam s name frantically, knowing that he would not be there. A
witch named Rachel had wanted us to take him to her castle but knowing that she was evil, my
family had refused. She became furiously angry and threatened that that would not be the last
we heard of her. She had had an evil plan that needed someone like Sam because he was a
prodigy because he was so smart. I quickly called the members of our gang, the Rescuers, of
which I had been nominated leader. My best friends, Jack, Otto, and David answered the phone.
We met together in the Cul de Sac in our neighborhood and I quickly told them our dilemma.
Immediately, after I was done talking, we set off on the road leading toward the misty beach.
We jogged until we could not run anymore and finally reached the railroad which went directly
to Rachel s castle, Darkwood. The mist was terrible, and we could barely see in front of us. We
found an abandoned railroad car and quickly jumped in; it was about 7:00 AM. As we sped
through the dark, misty air, we could hear the waves lapping up against the railroad track. If there
was an answer, I d find it there. A couple minutes went by and Otto was already complaining. Are
we almost there yet? I m hungry. Well I m sorry that my brother was taken by the evil

Facts About Organ Donation and Organ Transplantation Essay
In life, there is one thing that is inevitable and unavoidable. The subject is often avoided because
of fear. Death is universal. Every day eighteen people will die in the United States of America
waiting for an organ transplant. Organ Transplantation involves the giving of a healthy body part
from either a living or dead individual to another person. (Fundukian, Organ, p674 678) Medical
illnesses do not discriminate. It doesn t matter about wealth, race, religion, or even age. The types
of illnesses causing and leading to organ failure are heart disease, cirrhosis, cystic fibrosis, diabetes,
hepatitis, kidney disease, and hypertension. Currently medical professionals are able to transplant

The transplant team complied of coordinators, transplant physicians, transplant surgeons, financial
coordinators, and social workers. Coordinators aid patients with evaluation, treatment and follow up
care. Physicians usually manage the patient s care, test, and medications. Some physician
coordinate up until the transplant and even some times post transplant. Surgeons are the ones who
actually perform the surgery and follow up care for some time after the surgery. Financial
coordinators of course aid patients in the understanding of financial matters. Finally, social workers
help patients understand and cope with issues pertaining. Besides the above groups, United
Network Organ Sharing and Organ Procurement Transplantation Network are essential in organ
transplantation. These organizations make it possible. UNOS created efficient distribution system
of deceased organs that allow for fair and timely allocation, formulated a patient waiting list, and
set up a system to publicize the need for organ donations. With UNOS, the Organ Procurement and
Transplantation Network (OPTN), work with local Organ Procurement Organizations (OPO). OPO
representatives meet with families of recently deceased individuals to discuss the possibility of
organ donations. They assist in the evaluation of organs, their likelihood of medical use, and if
organs are usable, recovery, preservation and transport. Here in Philadelphia, we have the Gift of

  • 2. Long Term Effects Of The Holocaust The Holocaust was a tragedy. According to ushmm.org, The Holocaust was the systematic, bureaucratic, state sponsored persecution and murder of six million Jews by the Nazi regime and its collaborators . This is a perfect explanation of the Holocaust seeing that so many innocent people were killed. If they weren t they inevitably went through a great deal of pain whether it be from the abuse or watching all of their loved ones die. The Holocaustwas intolerably devastating for many, tight quarters in all ghettos, and gruesome experiments on twins caused extreme pain for over 3,000 twins (thoughtco.com). Resources were lacking in all respects during the Holocaust. Scarcity of necessities made life in the ghettos tortuous, at best mildly tolerable. The ghettos were broken down in many ways. The plumbing was horrific, there was garbage everywhere especially in the streets, as well as human defecation. These conditions, as well as tight quarters made the ghettos a breeding ground for numerous diseases. Once the diseases started spreading there was no good way to stop it because the immune systems of many were compromised, as a result of the almost nonexistent rations of food they were provided. To remedy this many of the small children would squeeze through the barriers of the ghetto and find food. However, they did this at great risk because if caught there would be severe consequences, if not execution. In addition, winters were even worse, on account of the fact that many ... • 3. Personal Identity Argument Unity as an Argument for Personal Identity This essay will discuss the idea that personal identity persists over time. It will start by briefly analysing some philosophical approaches to the problem, with views from RenГ© Descartes, G.W. Leibniz, Thomas Reid, Ludwig Wittgenstein, John Perry and Derek Parfit. Also in the discussion, the concept of psychological continuity will be presented, and also its reaches and limits. I will, then, introduce the concept of unity as a consequence of personal continuity, and its compelling argument for the persistence of personal identity. As a conclusion, some suggestions as to where the discussion of personal identity should advance will be recommended. 1. A Fundamental Philosophical Problem The attempt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The same is true for the mind of the person s identity: is it possible to re identify a person based on his/her continuity? How can I know if the continuity was affected or remained the same? The first difficulty is thus revealed: if there is continuity, then, there must be something that continues. In the proposal of continuity of personal identity it is not necessary that there be an element that continues. Wittgenstein uses the thread analogy to explain this concept: [...] the strength of the thread does not reside in the fact that some one fibre runs through its whole length, but in the overlapping of many fibres. . We have, then, an alternate proposition to that of substantial criteria to understand personal identity. Over time, personal identity is no longer thought as what persists , but how it persists . We persist over time because of certain continuity. But in what consists this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. What Is The Theme Of Poverty In Charles Dickens England was rapidly becoming urban society. But in spite of wealth created by industrialization, people still suffer from poverty. There are many factories but in a miserable state, low wages and harsh conditions. Industrial Revolution creates a middle class (neither rich nor poor). The irresponsible of practices of social institutions, as well as the evasion and abuses of responsibility by individuals, a reality which expresses the general atmosphere of man s isolation and disintegration. Some novelists, like Dickens has revealed the world of the poor class in his novels and reinforced his novels with factual details [ that ] .. really shocked the novel readers. 20 of his time. The theme of Povertyis one of the main problems that Charles Dickensfocuses on and attempts to draw attention of his readers to. Poverty is a serious and economic problem of English society of the late 19th century. This is why Dickens, chooses it as one of the main themes of his novel and also tries to describe the appearance of the poor people. They are not human but they look like animals. The man s face was thin and very pale; his hair and beard were grizzly, and his eyes were bloodshot. The old woman s face was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The crime against the child, 21 as Dorothy Van Ghent suggests is a theme which arrests Dickens s attention as early as his second novel, Oliver Twist. What is to be noted in tracing Dickens s treatment of this theme is that Oliver s suffering is primarily physical and external, but Dickens s later vision of childhood suffering shows interest in human psychology. Alex Zwerdling maintains that, by the time Dickens has written Dombey and Son, he has become more interested in the child deprived of love than food and shelter. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The General Surgeon of the United States Departments of Health and Human Services explains Secondhand smoke causes approximately 7,330 deaths from lung cancerand 33,950 deaths from heart disease each year (2014). Looking at the advertisement as a whole you can interpret that the main graphic in the image is the young boy, he is simply standing there with an innocent look on his face being choked. When you look closer you can see that the hand that is choking him is simply made out of smoke. Which is where the words across the bottom of the image come into play, Your smoking harms your child (Smokefree). Smokefree has already gained the viewers attention with the graphic meaning that from that point on they are thinking about the advertisement and the information showed. Advertisements have shown to be more effective when there is more of a connection made between the viewer and the topic. In this case, second hand smoking does harm your child. Although many parents that do smoke think that as long as their child is a couple feet away that it is fine to smoke but sadly it is not. The smoke that you are exhaling is going right into the air and being inhaled by your child, practically choking them. SmokeFree uses a small innocent child to add emotion into the advertisement, if they were to just put a picture of an adult or even an animal it wouldn t make that much of an impact as it does seeing an innocent child being choked by the smoke. Seeing a small innocent child being choked by the smoke is trying to reach out and show parents what is really happening to their small children. It s different seeing a ... • 6. The Clothing Styles By Christian Dior Fashion By taking a look at the clothing styles worn by a group of individuals, we can comprehend a great fragment regarding the prevailing social values of the generation. Polyester was the material of choice and bright colours were everywhere. Men and women alike, wore tight fitting pants and platform shoes. Christian Dior In 1947 the French designer Christian Dior dispatched his Corolle line, a collection re establishing and modifying the square shouldered and straight female figure after the disruptions of World War II. Dior s revolutionary design became embellished and overvalued, characterised by dresses featuring delicate shoulders, a vaguely padded bodice, low neckline, a small waist, and a full skirt flaring out starting the hips and grazing the calves. What was so diverse about Dior s look was in its abundance the excessive use of luxurious fabrics and time intensive labor. The overly female form that he presented was created through the use of padded hips and bust lines. (Walford, n.d). Nylon Stockings Numerous fashionable traits make a rebound. Once again, the nylon stockings became extremely trendy and sales skyrocketed (Lindop, n.d). There wasn t a fashionable woman alive who couldn t wait to jump into the latest pair. • 8. U.s. War On Terrorism Essay The United States vision of and for the world changed dramatically, and perhaps permanently, on September 11, 2001. The aftermath frightened and impacted the nation s reputation, and in order to measure the nature and extent of our policies, it is important to understand our efforts after this national attack on US soil. Many interesting documents released earlier that year provides a detailed perspective of America s economic policies and actions towards the War on Terror. The U.S. came out with a massive debt that has impacted the nation in several ways, but this leads to a basic question with a complex answer: How did the U.S. War on Terrorismimpact the American Debt Crisis? After researching further into the 9/11 attacks, clearly most of the money put into the war was wasted or misspent. Even though it was crucial going after the terrorists, especially since they had taken many lives and were capable to repeating their attack caused fear throughout the nation. It is important to signal out that the U.S. was attacked from a terrorist organization that had their focus on the U.S. for a long time. The impact that this served after 9/11 plays a clear role in defining the results of how these economic policies were taken into action. After looking over this tragic event in the U.S. history, there should have been a very high consideration towards how the money was going to be used in an effort to defeat terrorismbefore this event occurred. The top priority for the U.S. has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Impossibility Of Religious Freedom The act of defining religion has been a contentious issue in a wide variety of situations, particularly in the United States. The US is a nation that prides itself on religious inclusivity and freedom. There are consequences to this belief and tenant. Through the social, legal and moral structures of the United States, defining religionhas become imperative. In The Impossibility of Religious Freedom, Winifred Sullivan outlines the legal implications of defining religion in the United States. In order for religious freedom to be protected by the American state, religion must be clearly defined. As a result, religious theory must be used to maintain some semblance of religious freedom in the United States. Likewise, Josh Dubler s Down in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While there are specificities of the case that can help determine the individualized outcome of this particular case, the foundations of the legal problems in the case can be expanded to greater problems of religious definition in the United States. As shown through The Impossibility of Religious Freedom, religious theory is vital to the continuation of religious freedom protections, for better or worse, in the United States. The case that is highlighted by Sullivan revolves around the ability for citizens to use religious items around burial sites that extend beyond the city of Boca Raton s regulatory codes. When some of these religious items around the burial sites were not permitted by the city, a group of citizens sued the city on the grounds that the city was preventing actions protected by the religious freedom clauses of the US Constitution. This case, like many others involving religious freedom decisions, required a real definition of religion. Religious theory was imperative to the outcome of this case. Sullivan writes, If religion was whatever anyone said it was, the statute was unworkable and [Judge Ryskamp] did not feel it was his place to simply dismiss an act of the Florida legislature as nonsense. Religion therefore had to be measured and bounded by an expert test... (Sullivan 105). These tests were determined by various religious scholars, including Sullivan, that testified in this case. • 10. Human Inquiry vs Everday Assumptions Much of the publics conceived notions about the world and the reality in which we innately live, can be explained by contrasting our assumptions against various types of inquiry and research. The process of developing an explanation through testing, investigating, and collecting data that either refutes or supports the original claim is known as inquiry, or the process of researching. While that which is presupposed, or a belief that is used to interpret the world around us, is an assumption. Naturally, we regularly formulate our beliefs based upon our assumptions and make inferences based from these assumptions, however, today this is often done with little regard to critical thinking or reason. Furthermore, out of naivetГ© we seek to refute conclusions to that which we do not want to belive, pursuing a form of bias from those holding assumptions similar to what we desire; for in such manner, we justify our rejection of the undesirable. On the contrary, we hastily accept an assumption that supports a conclusion we perceive desirable, while giving little mind to the validity of the assumption, or the awareness of a becomingly tolerant society toward improper inquiry. This is human nature, it s unavoidable, but the ignorance thereof, serves as the catalyst to our own servility by standing as the largest hinderance toward proper inquiry and research. Humans can be placed in any situation and we will start to give it some kind of meaning in hopes to gain a basis for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Why The Varsity Team Lose For The Junior Varsity Teams 1. Why does the Varsity team lose to the Junior Varsity team? The Varsity team lost to the Junior Varsity team because of their individualistic mindset. The coach of the Army Crew team admits to putting together the best crew athletes together on the Varsity team. As Making Star Teams Out of Star Players discusses, putting the best individuals together seems appropriate on paper, but often ignores the soft skills necessary to work together as a team. Because the coach focuses on the individual talents of the Varsity Crew team he creates an air of competitiveness within each member, instead of how they can work together. The goal of the team is not greater than that of the individual and no one wants to be the weakest link so they overcompensate their own skills. Every member of the Varsity crew team believes he is compensating for the other members and blames other members for the failure of the team, which shows a lack of team mentality and strong leadership. Through overcompensating, as stated in the case study, that throws off the balance of the boat because one member being off pace causes slower speeds. Also, through pitting the Varsity team against the Junior Varsity team it adds to the divisive culture within the whole Army Crew team. The coach also does not create any positive feedback for the weaker links on the team to work with. Instead of telling the team they ALL did well, the coach focuses on who are the better athletes. As a result, the members feel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Applying Two Kinds Of A Spherically Symmetric... In this work, we consider two kinds of a spherically symmetric semiconductor quantum dots: (a) type I single quantum dot (SQD) with radius r_1, in which electrons and holes are confined in the same region of space, and (b) type II core/shell quantum dot (CCQD) with the same core radius, r_1, coated with shell thickness t=r_2 r_1, in which the spatial confinement of electrons and holes depends strongly on the geometrical parameters (core radius and shell thickness) and strain effects. Due to the potential structure of CdSe/CdTe CCQD, electrons mainly reside in the CdSe core region, while the holes dwell mainly in the CdTe shell region. This separation is shown in Fig. 1. For clarity, we designate the band gap energy, the conduction band minimum (CBM) and the valence bandmaximum (VBM) of bulk semiconductormaterials in the unstrained case by E_g0^i, E_c0^i and E_v0^i, respectively. E_c^i and E_v^i denote the bulk band edges of each nanoheterostructure compound including strain effect. In this paper, the index i=1,2,3 refers to the CdSe region (1), CdTe region (2) and the external medium (3), c(v) holds for conduction (valence) band and e(h) holds for electron (hole). E_g and V_(e(h)) are the bulk gap energy and the electron (hole) confining potential of strained hetero nanocrystal, respectively. In Fig 1, Оµ_1, Оµ_2 and Оµ_3 are dielectric constants of core, shell and external medium, respectively. For simplicity, we assume that the potential outside each kind of nanocrystal is ... • 13. Psychoanalytic Theory Of Erik Erikson Christina Gogh EECE 310 W Professor Rhodd 11/10/17 Erick Erickson Erik Erikson is known for his psychoanalytic theory of psychosocial development comprising eight stages from infancy to adulthood. Psychologist Erik Erikson, is a major contributor to developmental psychology, who proposed a comprehensive theory of the ways that individuals develop their identity, a sense of who they are, and society s influence on that development. Erikson stated that people go through crisis at each stage of their lives. The stages each had a developmental task to be mastered. As an individual resolved these various crises an individual would have a better harmony with their social environment that they live in. If an individual could not successfully resolve a crisis, they would be out of step , and the individual would have a greater difficulty in their dealing with a crisis in the future. Erikson did however recognize that an individual can develop through a stage negatively and still go on with their life. Erikson stated that each of the psychological stages have a basic conflict and important event leading to growth. The theory was developed from his hundreds of clinical observations in children. Identity is central to Erikson s thinking. Erikson coined the term identity crisis . Erikson lived such a crisis in his own life. At a young age Erikson found out his father was really his stepfather. Erik Homberger Erikson was born on June 15, 1902 in Frankfurt, Germany to his mother ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Around 9:30 is when the church began to fill up and that is when the Priest and two Bishops came out. The Priest wore his stole, which is like a long scarf, around his neck and hanging to the floor on either side of him. The Deacons wore their stole vestments across their body diagonally. There was also a group of 4 boys that helped on the Alter whom also wore robes and they would enter and exit through the Angel Doors also known as Deacon s Doors. Each time they went through the doors they kissed the icon on the door. There were times when the church would stand and times when everyone in the church would sit and these motions were all dictated by the Priest that made gestures to the crowd. The Priest was the leader in charge and everybody else worked around him. The service looked organized because everyone knew where they were supposed to be at a given time. During the service, the deacons would go around and swing the censer which was burning incense. The Altar boys would do things like hold the book as either the priest or one of the deacons read from it. They also carried candles at specific times such as when the deacon walked around and showed the Gospel. At the beginning of the mass the priest spoke to the children casually and asked them questions such as what was so special about today. Children answered that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bipolar I Disorder Research Paper The National Institute of Mental Health describes bipolar I disorder as the occurrence of manic episodes that can last up to seven days, or experiencing a state of mania so severe that one must be hospitalized. Through an analysis of the Maria Hertogh riot case study, we are able to gain deeper insights into British s colonial policies in their management of the religious issues of the Malay population in the post 1945 era. At the same time this also allows us to see how race intersect with class as the Malay population constitutes the lower income class in Singapore at that time. Using Maria as a case study, we are also able to see how gender interact with race and class during colonialism as things may have turned out differently if the child in case was a boy instead. b) Outlining your key research questions and the conclusions that you have drawn from your research thus far. 1.Did British mismanaged sensitive religious issues pertaining to the Malays during colonial rule? 2.Did the British pursue a strict policy of resistance in their religious policies? • 25. The War Of 1812 And The United States The War of 1812 is the second war between the United States of America and Great Britain that ends in a draw. Also referred to as the Second War of Independence, the cause of this military conflict is often believed to be a direct result of England s attempt to humiliate the United States, limit the country s growth and impact (acts of interference towards American trade, which is a sign of disrespect towards American independence), and acts of impressment (taking sailors off American vessels and forcing them into providing services for the British Royal Navy). Although the ultimate outcome of the War of 1812results in a tie, the Americans have faced several challenges during the presence of their second dispute with Britain. Arguably, the main reason that caused the United Statesto struggle during this Second War of Independence, is how unprepared the nation is when it comes to fighting another series of battles. During the War of 1812, the power of the army and navy forces in the United States of America seems to be lacking in both its quantity and quality value of soldiers, weapons, and supplies. In comparison to Great Britain, who, at the time, has the leading military in the world, boasting both a powerful army and navy, the Americans appears to be at a clear disadvantage. Spencer, Th.D THS 540: Introduction to Christian Theology Shahrzad Jamali ACTS Seminaries Fall 2017 Universalism is perhaps the greatest unspoken premise of modern thought within the Christian church. N.T wright The salvation of humankind has been always presented in 3 possible positions: 1) none will be saved, 2) some will be saved, or 3) all will be saved. The traditional Christian teaching has been always focused on the second position and maintained that only some of people will be saved. But there have been ongoing debates within this position about who exactly will be the saved group? And what will be the condition of the lost ones? Christian Universalism is a school of Christian theology that is focused on the doctrine of universal salvation. This doctrine holds the third position and believes that eventually all human beings, regardless of their faith, will be saved and will enjoy everlasting life with Christ. This doctrine has been presented differently by those who advocated it throughout the centuries and various labels have been used to refer to this doctrine, including Universal restoration , universal restitution , universal reconciliation , and universal salvation. It is reasonable to think a concept that is so important to the Christian faith would have a formal definition included as a Bible verse so that it can be learned and memorized. In spite of the fact that there is not a verse that defines the word Trinity, the Bible does clearly show that Godexists as three equal persons as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The Old Testament descriptions of God are applied to Jesus by both Matthew (Matt 3:3, Isa. 40:3) and John (John 12:41, Isa. 6:1). Jesus disciples were convinced He was God because he possessed the attributes of God: Life (John 1:4), Self existence (John 5:26), Immutability (Heb. 13:8), Truth (John 14:6), Love (I John 3:1), Holiness Luke 1:35), Eternity (John 1:1), Omnipresence (Matt. 28:20), Omniscience (Matt. 9:4), Omnipotence (Matt. 28:18). Dr. Wallace s textbook also provides examples in Scripture where a) the works of God are ascribed to Jesus (John 1:3, Col. 1:17), b) honor and worship due only to God is given to Jesus (John 5:23, Rom. 10:9, Heb. 1:6, Phil. 2:10 11, Rev. 5:12 14, and c) Jesus name is associated with that of God on an equal basis (Matt. 28:19, I Cor. 1:3, II Cor. 13:14, John 5:23, John 14:1, Col. 3:1, John 5:18). Jesus promised to send a helper to carry on His work. The promised Helper was the Holy Spirit. From the start He was recognized as the third divine Person, as one who receives honor due only to God (I Cor. 3:16) and is associated as an equal to God (Matt. 28:19, II Cor. 13:14). Peter said in Acts 5:3 4 that to lie to the Holy Spirit is to lie to God. The Holy Spirit also has God s attributes ascribed to Him, such as Life (Rom. 8:2), Truth (John 16:13), Love (Rom. 15:30), Holiness (Eph. 4:30), Eternity (Heb. 9:14), ... • 37. What Was the Effect of Photography on Painting in the... What was the effect of photography on painting in the nineteenth century? The photograph was developed in 1839 simultaneously in England and France by Talbot and Daguerre. That is the technique of chemically fixing of an image produced by exposure to rays of sun. William Fox Talbot was an English scholar and scientist who developed the negative and positive process. He used sensitive paper soaked in sodium hyposulphite called calotype. This became the basis for all subsequent photography. Photography joined the art world after a long struggle. Although early photography such as Daguerreotype and Calotype appeared by the mid 19th century, photographs only began to be displayed in art galleries and museums only in the early 20th century.... Two successful Munich portrait artists Franz Lenbach (1836 1904) and Franz Stuck (1863 1928), used photography extensively to reduce sittings and speed production; Lenbach accumulated a photo archive of 13, 000 images, many of them taken by the Munich professional Karl Hahn. Today, Hahn s revealing preparatory photographs of celebrities like Bismarck and Field Marshal von Moltke seem considerably more interesting than Lenbach s portraits. Other artists closely linked with photography were the members of the enormously influential plein airiste movement founded by Jules Bastien Lepage (1848 84). Pascal Adolphe Jean Dagnan Bouveret (1852 1929), Г‰mile Friant (1863 1932), Alexis Muenier, and the Hessian peasant painter Carl Bantzer all used the camera to record details of costumes and settings, and to experiment with different groupings and poses. However, the widespread belief that art and photography were incompatible made artists reticent about their activities. When, for example, in 1897 the critic Karl Voll complained to his friend, the painter Max Slevogt, about the use of photographic studies, he had no idea that Slevogt was already well versed in the practice. But photography had its most dramatic effect on painting as a technology of reproduction. From the beginning, numerous observers had suggested that by reproducing works accurately and inexpensively, photography could visually educate a wider public, and so build a larger, more ... From his boyhood boarding schools and military background to the election in 2000, Bush has been the beneficiary of preferential treatment. Coming from a family of wealthy politicians and businessmen, he did not have to want, or work very hard for anything. That is, until his presidency pushed him on to the global scene making it nearly impossible to underachieve like he did in school and in the military. Several encounters with both the law and the Securities and Exchange Commission weren t enough to check the Bush privilege. After two years of piloting and logging over 336 flight hours, Bush requested to transfer to 9921st Air Squadron in Montgomery, Alabama under Colonel Reese R. Bricken, in order to work on the senate campaign of George H.W. s close friend William Blount. Before he could do so, Bricken made it clear to Bush that he had not yet fulfilled the obligation agreed upon when he entered the service, but Bricken approved his request anyhow. Much to the dismay of Bush, on July 31, 1972, the Air Reserve Personnel Center (ARPC) overruled Bush s transfer request, saying that he could not be reassigned to an Air Reserve Squadron in Montgomery because of his service obligations. Against the orders of his superior officers, Bush relocated to Alabama anyway, leaving his guard responsibilities unresolved. In August 1972, Bush was suspended from flying due to his failure to report for a medical exam. Soon after, Bush reapplied for transfer to 187th Tactical Reconnaissance Group in Alabama and was promptly approved. This is where allegations of Bush going A.W.O.L come into play. • 41. Copyright Law Limitations Since the U.S. Copyright Act became law in 1790, the copyright term has been increasing. Copyright is an intangible property right granted by federal statue to the author or originator of certain literacy or outside productions. The first major change was the Copyright Act of 1976, it gave American authors the right to print, re print, or publish their work for 14 years and then to renew for another 14. In 1998, Congress passed the Sonny Bono CopyrightAct also known as the Mickey Mouse Copyright Act, which extended protection from life of the author plus 70 years as well as taking away the need for a copyright notice and registration. The result was that many whom did not have copyright protection due to lack of copyright notice and registration were now protected. Following the Mickey Mouse Copyright Act, they passed the Digital Millennium Copyright Act which intended to create a new updated version of copyright laws to deal with the challenges of regulating digital material. It aimed to protect the rights of both copyright owners and consumers, and without it copyright owners would have a difficult time obtaining legal action against those who copy copyrighted material. Copyright act laws should be extended for various reasons, one is that, it gives the creator more time to profit from it and if the creator dies early on it will be passed on to their family. Economics of an Urgent Care Center in a Market of Emergency Departments One of the contributors to the rising cost of Healthcare can be attributed to the over use of emergency departments (EDs) for non emergency needs. In the greater Capitol/First/Beacon Hill area there are three major hospitals (Virginia Mason, Harborview, and Swedish) with emergency rooms and no urgent care centers with the exception of Group Health which is restricted to Group Health insurance members. This will reduce the demand for ED visits and the ratio of patients with insurance to offset the cost of uncompensated care. With a decrease in demand we should see a decrease in the cost of emergency room visits as more patients get their non emergency care at urgent care centers. The new healthcare reform will eventually reduce the burden on hospitals and insurance companies by providing the means for everyone to have healthcare and increase the ratio of insured patients seeking treatment. Urgent Care Economics Unlike an emergency department, urgent care centers do not charge facility fees. Insurance companies and patients are only charged for services rendered. Urgent care centers provide a high level of non emergency care at a similar cost as it would to visit a doctor s office which is about 1 /10th of the cost of an emergency room visit. This includes minor procedures such as lacerations that need sutures, minor burns, casting of fractures, reduction of dislocated joints, and on the job injuries. Urgent care centers are for profit and are not required to provide indigent care, but do not have the tax benefits of a not for profit hospital. The quality of care in an urgent care center is just a good in an emergency department for non emergency care. The differentiating factor is follow up care. • 43. Measuring The Distributional Characteristics Of L2 Input... Given the two necessary conditions for measuring the distributional characteristics of L2 input stated above, it becomes obvious that input variability differs fundamentally from the variability in a TL construction (cf. section 2.3.2). The same conclusion can be drawn from the fact that non robust input and the TL variable structure are proposed as two different, though closely related and interacting, forces of interlanguage fossilization (Han, 2013) (see section 2.3.1). For simplicity, variability in a TL construction will be referred to as construction variability in the remainder of this dissertation proposal. To recapitulate, Han s (2014) conceptualization of the variability dimension of L2 input robustness consists of the following levels: (a) one to one, or one TL form encoding one meaning; (b) one to many, namely one TL form encoding multiple meanings across multiple contexts, or (c) within the same context; and (d) many to one, or multiple TL forms encoding the same or a similar meaning (see section 1.3). Though identical in terminology and entailment on the surface, construction variability signifies (in)consistency in the form meaning function relations of the TL in the prescriptive, categorical sense, and is generally stable in distribution. Input variability denotes a TL construction s (in)consistency in the form meaning function mappings in discourse episodes that make up the primary linguistic data immediately accessible to L2 learners. These are seen throughout the Great Plains, and many other flats. These are generally not powerful enough, unless they are built in large numbers. Many times, around two hundred are built in one area, to produce for the nearest city or town. Although these do produce some good, usable energy, as with all things, they have some problems. Wind does not always blow, and when the wind stops, so does the energy. Sun is not always shining, for solar energy, but they have cells to store energy for nightfall.
