Culture and Cuicine in Canada
Canadian Culture: The Northern Mosaic
Canada is one of two countries located in North America and is the second largest country in the
world. It is situated just north of the United States and constitutes the northern part of the country,
excluding Alaska. Over the years Canada s culture has been influenced by European culture and
traditions, mainly that of the French and British. Canadian culture has also been influenced by the
countries first people, the Aboriginals, as well as the newer immigrated population (Wikipedia,
2007). Canada consists of ten provinces and three northern territories, almost all of which are rich
in land and natural resources (Bailey, par. 2). Canada is often referred to as a mosaic community

A trend in Canada has witnessed a Celtic revival which saw many Maritime musicians and songs
rise to prominence (Wikipedia, 2007, par.9). Many of the Maritimes cultural activities can be
traced back to rural resource based economies of fishing, forestry, coal mining, and farming.
Atlantic fishing is by far the largest industry on the East Coast. Nova Scotia and Newfoundland are
the dominant provinces contributing to the fishing industry. According to the Canadian Fisheries
Annual Statistical Review (1980), there are approximately eighty thousand fishermen and fish
processing plant workers involved in the Atlantic fishing industry which makes up three quarters
of Canada s total fish revenue (as cited in Natural Resources in Canada, 1985). A few of these
provinces also rely on their fertile land for growing such items as potatoes, strawberries,
blueberries, apples and a variety of other small fruits and vegetables (Farming in Canada, 1989).
Although many people from this region find a higher quality of life in the Atlantic area, Iain
Wallace (2001) explains that much of the younger crowds migrate to other, more prosperous, areas
of the country. The last region that will be focused on is the Northern Territories; which includes
the Northwest Territories, Yukon, and the newest territory, Nunavut. There are many different
languages spoken in this region, and many of them have

Maya Angelo
Phenomenal Women By Maya Angelo Analysis In the poem Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelo
expresses many viewpoints on the topic of women. She describes the many attributes of women
throughout the poem. Many think that a slim and trim body or pretty faces are the many features
of a true woman. But Angelo explains the small insignificant features of a womanthat people or
society never mention. She believes and convinces the reader that these are the marks of a woman.
The poems central idea is; Women should embrace their natural traits and characteristics even if
society keeps telling you otherwise. Angelo starts this narrative poem by saying Pretty women

Beethoven Symphony 9 Essay
The West Eastern Divan Orchestra and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain impressively
rendered Ludwig van Beethoven s Symphony No. 9 at the 2012 BBC Proms. The Orchestra
conducted by Daniel Barenboim played the four played all four movements of Symphony no. 9.
The performers brilliantly upgraded the symphony, fully respecting the brilliance of Beethoven. The
performance utilized a large Orchestraand Choir, all of which displayed various musical concepts.
Ultimately, this performance breathtaking performance, respectfully paid homage to one of the
most revered symphonies of all time. The First movement Allegro ma non troppo, un poco
maestoso began with a very angry mood, recapitulating the fortissimo throughout the movement.
The Second movement Scherzo: Molto vivace Presto played in the minor key displayed both a
joyful and suspenseful mood. The Third movement Adagio molto e cantabile played in the major

The first movement Allegro ma non troppo, un poco maestoso played in sonata form beginning
with a soft pianissimo which then developed into a stormy fortissimo which recapitulated
throughout the movement. The second movement Scherzo: Molto vivace Presto also features
recapitulation throughout the movement, while the movement s rapidity was facilitated by the
presto tempo of the movement. The third movement Adagio molto e cantabile played in variation
form by repeating the same basic melody, with minor alterations. The fourth and final movement
called Presto; Allegro molto assai (Alla marcia); Andante maestoso; Allegro energico, sempre ben

Police Brutality And Police Officers
The heated issue of police brutality and police officers violating civil rights has extensively
covered media headlines for several years. Hundreds of people are killed every year by police
officers, and many of these cases bring up issues of police brutality. More often than not, it is
usually a white police officer and an african american offender encounter that sparks media
attention. The shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri is just one of these cases that
has caused a major divide in the United States. Michael Brown was fatally shot by Officer
Wilson after an unfriendly encounter in the streets. Those who believe that Officer Wilson made
the right decision in shooting Michael Brown, point to the fact that the grand jury chose not to
indict him. Although Darren WIlson was not charged after the shooting of unarmed Michael
Brown, some people believe that his actions were unlawful and he should have received some
sort of punishment for his wrongdoing. Acknowledging all of the facts of the investigation,
Officer Wilson did not act properly in the circumstances of the time. Many people believe that
Officer Darren Wilson made the right decision when he fatally shot Michael Brown because he
feared for his life. In a report by Rachel Clark and Christopher Lett, CNN reporters, they describe
the incident that led to the shooting began when Wilson left the scene of a sick call and
encountered Michael Brown with his friend Dorian Johnson walking in the middle of the

The Rotten Damage Of Food Waste
The Rotten Damage of Food Waste
Growing up, children were most likely told to always finish all the food on their plates because
somewhere else in the world, another child was starving. Most kids never really understand how
serious the matter actually is and it is expected for adults to know better but here we are in 2016
where roughly one third of food produced is wasted every year. The problem with this is that about
21,000 people die per day from starvation, but where is that food they need to live? It s rotting in
the fridge, it s being used for contests to see who can eat the fastest, or it s simply been thrown
away because the sun has gone down and people refuse to buy it the following day if it s not new.
What s even more depressing is that most starvation deaths are of children.
The first problem here is poverty. How can someone work when they re so hungry and sick?
How can someone get a job they re too sick to work? It s bad enough that a child would die of
starvation, but if the father or mother dies of starvation, then the whole family could die too due to
the fact that there s no one to go to work. Not many people step up to help the hungry child
because they have their own family to think about. This isn t to say that no one notices starving
countries because it s more than likely that everyone has seen the commercials on tv of children in
different countries running around while the narrator explains how anyone can help by simply
donating maybe five dollars.

Voltaire s View Of Oppression From The Authority
It is dangerous to be right in matters about which the established authorities are wrong.
Voltaire
The struggles against authority, repeatedly and continuously, take place in the history. As for those
fighters, Voltaire, a famous French writer and thinker, once put forward an idea, It is dangerous to
be right in matters about which the established authorities are wrong. () The word right contrasting
to wrong means the truth. An established authorities could be regarded to the dominant powers
controlling and guiding people, such as long existing conventions held and propagated by the power
holders or the influential experts in specific fields. The article will support the idea of Voltaire by
providing sufficient and concrete evidences. It is reasonable that people might suffer the possibility
of oppression from the authority, when the ideas of the former contrasts to the latter who tend to
retain its status. The challenger is dangerous in the way that the power of authorities, at most time,
overwhelm them; the characteristic of opposing ideas invites the oppression by authority. It is
possible to receive potential danger from the authority, while some did succeed in the struggle.
It is obvious that the comparison between two power is usually dismatched. The opponents are
often overshadowed by the authorities, in turn, the opponents are weaker, two aspects in particular.
Convention gets in the way of innovation and rebellion. It also restricted by the contemporary

Observational Learning Experience
If I were to have a five year old nephew and I were to have to teach him something I would mostly
likely use a combination of reinforcers and observational learning. Both positive and negative
punishment would be implemented in the teaching process, as well as the observational part so that
they all compliment each other. Most likely I would begin to teach him to play baseballand
basketball since most, including myself, start around that age. Although, I would not be as hard on
him as my brothers were on me when it came to sports.
I would begin to teach him baseball since it is my favorite. Before any actual practice begins I
would explain the simple form of the concept of the game. The object of the game, some
terminology, etc. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again I was always taught in more of a punishment type approach and again it worked for me, but
I believe it depends on the kid that is being taught and how they handle it. The same goes for
basketball as it did baseball, I would teach him the concept and objective of the game. When a
kid this age is being taught it is all really observational, because they look to you for guidance
and on how to do everything properly. They literally try to copy everything you do. When it
comes to basketball once he has the concept down and I have taught him how to do everything
correctly, I would take more of punishment route. For example, if he keeps missing lay ups, I
would make him make fifty before he could move on to anything else. If he has trouble dribbling,
then I would make him do dribbling drills until he has started to improve. The same goes for
baseball too. Punishment in a form that improves his game by making him to the same thing over
and over again until he gets better. My punishment in both sports was that I would always have to
run if I messed up repeatedly. That only makes you want to do better, which makes you better in
the long run, but making him repeat what he needs to improve has more of a direct correlation in
helping his weak aspects of the

Essay about Anorexia
According to the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, there are
over 24 Million people that suffer from eating disorders. What is an eating disorder though? The
simple definition of this disease is that a person exhibits abnormal eating behaviors. There are
many different variations to these disorders but they share many of the same characteristics such
as: fear of becoming obese, obsession with thinness, food, weight, and even calorie counting. Of
the many cases though what is the main cause of this disease? Can it be psychological, an
environmental, or a biological factor? In this paper I will explore some of the reasons why people
develop eating disorders and how it all factors into a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The three main symptoms are an excessive amount of intake of food accompanied by self induced
vomiting, fasting and/or obsessive or compulsive exercise, and extreme concern with body weight
and shape. The recurrent binge and purge cycles can damage the entire digestive system and can
lead to electrolyte and chemical imbalances in the body that affect the heart and other major organ
functions. Some health consequences of bulimia nervosa are irregular heartbeats, possibly heart
failure and death, inflammation and possible rupture of the esophagus from frequent vomiting,
tooth decay and staining from stomach acids released, irregular bowel movements and
constipation. People struggling with bulimia nervosa usually appear to be of average body
weight (National). Physical appearance is not the only issue that this disease faces in people.
They also face problems with psychological, environmental and biological issues in life. Since
there is no clear way to tell which of these factors is the culprit of causing eating disorders, each
factor needs to be looked at. Environmental factors is plays one of the biggest roles in eating
disorders. As a society, we are taught that looks matter. So what makes a person associate thinness
with beauty? Many people are believing that the media has much to do with how people view
themselves. The media has promoted the image of thinness through magazines, advertisement, and
television

16 December 2015 Over the course of this class I have learned things that I didn t know before
and developing as a writer. I learned different things with each of the assignments I submitted. I
learned things like how to develop my writing and how to transition my writing to flow better
together. I learned to correctly cite in text citations and I learned how to create a profile. Each of
these things I will carry with me as I continue to write for various classes or other reasons in the
future and they will continue to help me better myself as writer. The five student outcomes have

I then submitted my final draft to iNet. My topic for my research paper was technology s impact on
today s society. I talked about the positive and negative impacts technology has on our society
everyday and I was able to give evidence of my ideas with information I found when researching.
I explained that technology has helped with finding new ways to teach students including those
with disabilities and how it has helped to advance the health and medicinal field. I also explained
some downsides such as the addiction and absence of face to face interaction that come along
with technology. Each of my assignments for this class included revising and editing at the
attempt to hand in the best possible work. I made sure I read over my work before handing it in to
assure that there were little to no grammatical or spelling errors. My biggest struggle in this area
was working on transitions and organization throughout my assignments to make sure my paper
flowed better as a whole.
Conduct research, which uses traditional and electronic search techniques and integrates source
materials is the second student outcome. I used this a ton when writing my research paper as well
as many other assignments. Bianca Banova, author of the article The Impact of Technology on

Immigration And Illegal Immigration
During our most recent Presidential election, Donald Trump brought up the topic of illegal
immigration in most of his debates. Stating that he would build a wall to separate Mexico and the
United States because of his belief that immigration is hurting our society. Many of his voters also
believe this as the truth. Carrying the idea that illegal immigrationlessens the economy, burdens our
Government institution and is unfair to those who came to America legally. However,
undocumented immigrants carry much more positive affirmations than negative ones for the
United States.
The United States economy was originally built on the backs of immigrants. In today s economy,
illegal immigrants build a great foundation to help bring out the best for other citizens. Supplying a
workforce for jobs that other Americans may not want. Cleaning, house care, lawn work, dog
walking, construction, and so on. Seeing it from the other perspective, it could be thought that
illegal immigrants are stealing these jobs away from Americans. However, immigrants who
participate in these jobs help stimulate the economy. Working in jobs that create time for whoever
hired them. This allows whoever the individual is to be more productive or to do whatever they
want with the saved amount of time they have. The economy is stimulated by this as the saying the
more time; the more money said person could make. Also, participation by immigrants creates more
revenue for the Government. As stated by the chief

Kevin Rudd Apology
To the Stolen Generations I say the following. .. As Prime Minister of Australia I am sorry. On
behalf of the Government of Australia I am sorry. On behalf of the Parliament of Australia, I am
sorry (Kevin Rudd, Apology, 2008). In 2008, Kevin Rudd stood up and made a speech in regards
to the stolen generation of Aboriginal Australian People. He made an apology on behalf of the
government for the way in which the Aboriginal People were treated. This speech was, and still is,
a very significant event that occurred in Australias history. Whilst many Aboriginal People are
thankful for the apology on behalf of the white Australians, many still feel mistreated and upset
over the issue (M Silby, 2013).

diseases, due to inaccessible and unaffordable treatments. Indigenous children also have higher rates
of hearing loss, as a result of untreated diseases (T Calma, n.d.). The speech, was an attempt to

Values And Values In Beowulf
Character can be easily identified through motivations and the decisions they influence. It also
shows what a culture or a person values as significant. The epic of Gilgamesh provides insight into
the way that Sumerian culture worked by focusing on certain aspects of day to day life. The same
happens in the epic of Beowulf, where the day to day life of each character sheds light on the values
that the Anglo Saxons prized, such as loyalty to family. The actions and motivations of characters in
the epic poem Beowulf showcase the Anglo Saxon mindset of the importance of family.
Beowulf s reason for coming to the Denmark is not simply to prove himself or to save the Danes
out of the goodness of his heart, but to repay his father s debt. Hrothgar points this out by saying:
There was a feud one time, begun by your father
... finally I healed the feud by paying: I shipped a treasure trove to the Wulfings and Ecgtheow
acknowledged me with oaths of allegiance ( Beowulf 459, 470 473) Beowulf acknowledges the
debt, showing that he feels bound by his father s mistakes. This gives the insight into Anglo Saxon
culture that mistakes and wrongdoings are not merely the responsibility of the people who make
them, but also their entire families. After Beowulf fights Grendel, Hrothgar speaks to him about
how much he loves him. He thanks Beowulf profusely for killing the monster, saying,
What you have done is draw two peoples, the Geat Nation and us neighboring Danes, into shared
peace

The Lamp At Noon Summary
A feeling of entrapment caused by the environment may lead to a lack of belonging which may
result in isolation. The feeling of isolation occurs when an individual feels separated from their
surroundings by lack of control. Could an individual overcome isolation? The Lamp at Noon , a
short story written by Sinclair Ross the protagonist has to overcome numerous obstacles in order to
pursue happiness and belonging. In the short story Ross suggests that in moments of difficulties an
individual relies on the presence of their partner to gain comfort however, if such needs are not

The Electric Telegraph Invented By Samuel Morse
One of the earliest inventions of communication was the electric telegraph invented by Samuel
Morse. This device used electrical signals to transmit messages. The telegraph played a significant
role in transmitting messages over long spaces. Its usage was in Law enforcement, army and
newspapers. Even so, anyone could post messages using a telegram via a service. Today, there are
roughly three principal methods of measuring the velocity of data contagion. Baud rate (signaling
events per minute), BPS (bits per Sec) and CPS (characters per minute). The fact is, today the baud
rate has been substituted with a more precise unit of measurement.
Telephones are most mutual and are ground in almost every home and organizations. Telephones
worked by using a PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network). This is where copper wires carry
an analogue voice signal. Analogue means a device or organization in which the value of a data
point represented by a continuously varying physical quantity which can be quantified. An example
is a watch that shows time with hands on a dial rather than numbers on an LCD screen. In an
analogue telephone system, the audio signal is converted into electronic pulses. This creates
vibrations in the handset s speaker that can be picked up by the person listening.
Nevertheless, in a digital telephone. The audio signal is converted into binary format. The binary
format consists of groups of 0 s and 1 s. The audio signal is sampled thousands of times a second

of the banks. (Davila) There has been significant increase in the profitability of banks from 2004

the growth is not very sustainable as every financial system is interconnected with the economic

the hierarchy system which does not give banks a lot of independence to make decisions. Strategic

The Peloponnesian War and the Decline of Leadership in Athens
Thucydides set out to narrate the events of what he believed would be a great war one requiring
great power amassed on both sides and great states to carry out. Greatness, for Thucydides, was
measured most fundamentally in capital and military strength, but his history delves into almost
every aspect of the war, including, quite prominently, its leaders. In Athensespecially, leadership
was vital to the war effort because the city s leaders were chosen by its people and thus, both shaped
Athens and reflected its character during their lifetimes. The leaders themselves, however, are
vastly different in their abilities and their effects on the city. Thucydides featured both... Show more

The Greeks practiced what was essentially a policy of strict isolationism fighting when they felt
their own territorial holdings being violated but refraining from complex inter Hellenic alliances
and subjugation for profit. The navies, and especially their role in the Persian Wars changed all this.
Equally significant in containing Greek power early on was the tradition of rule by tyrants, who, as
a result of their habit of providing simple for themselves...made safety the great aim of their policy,
and prevented anything great proceeding from them... (I.17). Here too, however, a sweeping change
took place just before the Persian invasion as Sparta put down Greek tyrants and set up democracy
in Athens. It was these two significant changes the construction of a navy in Athens and the
institution of democracy as its government that put Athens in a position to assume the role of major
Mediterranean power, and it was the Persian invasion that gave it the chance to take advantage of
that position (I.18).
The Athenians at the Second Lacedaemonian Congress contended that it was inevitable that Athens
would take such a chance when offered, arguing that it has always been the law that the weaker
should be subject to the stronger (I.76.2). Indeed, the primacy of self interest in determining the

I have many perspectives of the movie. Though, the feeling that often returns is fear. I loved the
movie because it is was very inspirational, but I felt fear because this was what our world was a

I said the movie was inspirational because if someone tries hard enough, they can change you in
a negative and positive way, but if you try twice as hard, you can change yourself in which ever
way you desire. The movie itself might have changed people lives, you saw the point of views
from both sides. Negative and positive. Now its your turn to determine that path you wish to seek.

The Impact Of European Civilization On Native Americans
The Native Americans experienced pain and suffering upon the arrival of the european
civilization. The Lenni Lenape for example inhabited New Jersey long before the Europeans
arrived. When settlers from Europe moved to North America, Native Americans lost their reign on
their land. The Native Americans were forced out off of their own land where they lived. By the
european settlers moving over and conquering the territory they caused a catastrophe. Many of the
Native Americans either died from battles or from the diseases that the europeans brought over.
Therefore, the european settlers are the reason for the loss of life and the pain and suffering that
happened. The Native American s had limited supplies to begin with and the european s targeted
their supplies in order to force them to relocate. The europeans learned from the Native Americans
who taught them how to survive and learn the territory. They even trained settlers on utilizing
guerrilla warfare which made them stronger. But ultimately, this would be their downfall because
the settlers betrayed them and took over the native soil. The arrival of the european civilization
made a remarkable impact on their society.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay On Drug Prices
In recent years, rising drug prices in the United States raises have impacted patient access to
medications, including potentially life saving medications. It has become extremely difficult for
patient to receive medications. The blame is being shifted from insurers, drug manufactures, and
the government. Insurers are protesting that specialty drug costs are forcing them to jack up
premiums. State Medicaid directors say spiking pharmacy costs are coercing them to make
unfortunate coverage trade offs. From the consumer s perspective, there is a constant cycle of
blame and no actual progress. Fortunately, there are possible solutions the US healthcare can

She said that Mount Sinai was continuing to use the drug, but each use now required a special
review. Unfortunately, the patients that needed this drug suffered from the malpractice of the
drug company, which consequently led to public outrage. Another example of company
malpractice was of Mylan raising the price of the EpiPen. Mylan Pharmaceuticals increased the
price of the EpiPen from $100 in 2009 to $608 in 2016. The EpiPen is a life saving drug that
many young children use in times of dire need so the $500 price increase felt morally unethical
to consumers. Consumers interpreted the increase as a manufacturer profiteering off a person s
life or death needs. Mylan then justified the prince increase because they said they had
competition from Sanofi but Sanofi dropped out of the market not soon after and the price still
increased from Mylan. In conclusion, drug manufacturers definitely hold on to some blame of the
recent prescription drug price spike. Arguably, the government and insurance companies have the
ability to work with companies to streamline certain processes and decrease costs and prices.
Medicare Part D is large enough and with enough money coming in that they can bargain and
negotiate drug prices with manufacturers. This solution would decrease the average costs of most
prescriptions for senior citizens and the disabled and would say the Medicare system between

Thank You For Arguing Summary
In section 4 of Thank You For Arguing by Jay Heinrichs, Heinrichs starts out by explaining Cicero s
five canons of persuasion that include: invention, arrangement, style, memory, and delivery.
Invention is the start of the persuasion and the thought of what is wanted to be accomplished. Then,
the issue itself needs to be figured out and resolved. Finally, the person needs to think about the
audience and what their values are. That will get an individual a start on the art of persuasion.
Arrangement is how a person is going to arrange an argument so the persuasion is the most
impactful. Arrangement comes down to this rule of thumb Ethos first. Then logos. Then pathos.
(283). Arrangement follows an outline that can be used starting with introduction,... Show more

Also, refutation is developed to win the argument and completely smash your opponents facts
and argument. At the end, Heinrichs explains the conclusion where the individual states their
best points from the argument. Style is how a person expresses their thoughts and words. Proper
language is one of the styles which are words that suit the occasion and my audience (287).
Heinrichs also explains the style of clarity, which is speaking to make the words obvious and
straight facts. Also, Memory is used to create an image in the audience s minds to make them
feel and imagine what the individual is talking about to persuade the audience more impactfully.
Finally, the fifth canon of persuasion is delivery and how the person uses body language, along
with your voice, rhythms, and breathing (290). Voice is key in delivery especially in the volume
of the voice and how the audience emphasises the tone of the speaker. Towards the end of the
novel, Heinrichs reiterates on a few keywords including: goals, ethos, pathos, logos, and kairos.
Heinrichs also states examples of situations when these tools are needed. An example is when a

Sports Event Management Of The Participation Of People At...
Event Management
Sports event management is the management of the participation of people to an organized time
limited event. Events showcase to the public the image of a given sport and its teams hence it is
crucial that a favorable image during major events be portrayed. The importance of event
organizing is reflected in the move taken by many local authorities to appoint event officers in their
respective departments (Watt, 2003). Even in small local authoritative organization at least one
person will have event management as their job role, this is largely due to their relevance to sports
event management (Watt, 2003). Sports events are not just organized for all the obvious reasons,
they are sometimes held to feel the market, used by politicians for publicity, to set up market,
create public awareness and so on. It has also been used in the UK to encourage urban development
as money gets invested in the market where the event is held (Watt, 2003). A well thought sports
event is an incentive to organizers, participants, and owners of teams. In addition to this the venue,
funding, time table, selection of people, and evaluation of event also need to be decided upon
(Watt, 2003).

racist to Asians in a new way: stereotyping. Hello, I m Dexter Chen, and today I will be discussing
why you shouldn t stereotypeAsians because stereotypes aren t true, are extremely discouraging,
and because stereotyping is offensive in general. Before we get into this topic, let me explain what
stereotyping is. Stereotyping is judging a group, religion, ethnicity, or even gender, although these
stereotypes might not reflect on reality. This is caused by social media, the human tendency to
reduce complex things to simple things, and prejudice. You might be thinking to yourself: Gee, how
is stereotyping offensive? It s just a playful way of describing someone! If you are thinking that
doubtful thought, then pay attention, because I will show you why you shouldn t stereotype
anyone, especially Asians. First things first: Stereotypes are usually untrue. An average Asian
Americanstereotype would be nerdy, introverted, and smart. That stereotype isn t even close to
true. Imagine 4.4 billion people all being nerdy, smart, and introverted. That s literally not possible.

Another important point in sanction clauses is the wording of the terms that are included in the

Comparing the LMA and Standard Club, we conclude that the wording is specific and strong in
both cases, so they are clear for the protection of the insurer. The first instance focus on the
source of application of sanctions namely the Organizations that enforce the regulations, while
the second, on the kinds of trade operations and voyages that the assured may have in relevance
to this country. The penalties for breach of sanctions are generally several. In particular, many
banks have suffered huge fines in the United States, a point which except from economical
issues, affects to the increase of the potential risk in case of an incident but also to their
reputation. Insurers and reinsurers are dealt mainly with client s services worldwide, so they
may be inadvertently involved in sanctions breaches. In 2011, following the examination of a

The period of Baroque art was from 1600 to 1750, and relates to the style of architecture and art that
was dominant at that time. Rome was the center of this new style that reflected the Counter
Reformation; the
Church was regrouping during this period, and was trying to build up its patronage by bringing
people back to worship after the Reformation. In much of the art during this time, the papacy

Her father was a painter named Orazio Gentileschi, who taught her how to draw and paint.
Influenced by Caravaggio s work, Gentileschi also used chiaroscuro in her work and created
beautifully dramatic pieces. Like
Caravaggio, she also was able to depict a moment of elevated drama in her work and was totally
capable of emphasizing it. In the time that she lived, women generally were not painters; very few
women even attempted it, but Gentileschi was the п¬Ѓrst woman to actually become a member of
the prestigious Accademia di Arte Disegno in Florence, Italy and to paint important historical and
religious paintings that were actually
praised and viewed as an integral part of the artistic movement.
Both Gentileschi and Caravaggio painted unconventional religious subjects; two paintings of
similar themes are Caravaggio s David with the
Head of Goliath, (c.1610), and Gentileschi s Judith and Maidservant with the Head of Holofernes
(c. 1625). Both paintings evoke drama and use the technique of chiaroscuro to add effective
intensity to the story of their paintings, which entail the heroic and rather gruesome removal of
someone s head. The subject of Gentileschi s painting comes from the
Book of Judith and relates the story of Holofernes who attacked the
Jewish people of Bethulia; Judith, who was a beautiful Hebrew widow that may have been raped

The correlation between the vampire, a figure that is usually regarded as the subject of social
ostracism, and the New Woman, the advent of which was feared by the majority of the British
Victorian patriarchy, was a prominent aspect of much mid to late Victorian era literature.
Supplementary evidence to support the compelling Victorian era literary connection between the
vampire and the New Womancan be extrapolated from the unique gender role standards that
defined that socially complex era. As Catherine Siemann suggests in her essay, Darkness Falls on

In order to reinforce as loudly and clearly as possible the patriarchal message that in Victorian
society, New Women were to be regarded as social pariahs, the ultimate destruction of these
literary characters had to be performed in the most savage manner feasible, the brutality of which
is almost beyond belief. In Carmilla, prior to her slaughter, the male characters, representative of
the Victorian patriarchy, dehumanize the vampire Carmilla, by no longer referring to her by name;
Carmilla is simply reduced to being referred to as the vampire and the body. Dehumanization
eliminates Carmilla s individuality, metaphorically suggesting that her fate is the destiny that
awaits all New Women. Carmilla s execution is described as follows:
The body, therefore, in accordance with the ancient practice, was raised, and a sharp stake
driven through the heart of the vampire, who uttered a piercing shriek at the moment, in all
respects such as might escape from a living person in the last agony. Then the head was struck
off, and a torrent of blood flowed from the severed neck. The body and head were next placed on a
pile of wood, and reduced to ashes, which were thrown upon the river and borne away, and that
territory has never since been plagued by the visits of a vampire. (Le Fanu 336)

Euthanasia The thin line between life and death has become an ethical issue many health care

and ends when the heartbeat and breathing have ceased has long been deemed factual. Medical
technologies have changed this with respirators, artificial defibrillators, and transplants (Macionis,

A Metaphorical View Into Kindred
A Metaphorical View into Kindred In Kindred by Octavia Butler, Dana is subject to many
different wounds all over her body; the more involved Dana becomes in the story the more
damaging the wounds are to her everyday function. These wounds, their severity, and their position
represent certain emotional and mental scars in Dana made by her travels into the 1800 s.The most
severe of these wounds and the bait of the novel, since it is the opening chapter and I am awaiting
for this scene throughout the book, is the losing of her left arm. Losing such a vital part of one s
body can be devastating and for some this can be an unsurpassable obstacle, but for Dana is a
reminder of her travels, her new found knowledge, and her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Dana feels that it was a mistake on his part and that It was the breaking of an unspoken
agreement... (239). Self inflicted wounds for Dana at the beginning of the novel might have been
an improbability but as the story progresses it become an almost certainty, this is one reason why
this wound was so significant for Dana, the only thing the reader does not know is when she will
make the leap. This wound is larger to Dana mentally than physically because it first shows how
far she was able to go in order to stop the pain and to end all her problems. Second, because the
wounds won t hurt her after they heal and they are big enough to be intrusive with her day to
day life, yet they are significantly out in the open to serve as reminders of her changes. The
scars that will come from the slits will surely remind Dana of how horrible the past can be and
how it far it can push a person no matter how strong their character is. Furthermore, it shows
Dana that no matter how bad your past can be it was necessary for someone to be the way they
are or in her case the reason that she exists. Finally, we are brought back to that scene in the
hospital that the novel opened with, the reader sees that when Dana is thrown back into the 1900 s
after killing the very person she was sent to protect, she appears with her arm inside, and

Humans often have a strong desire for being heard and understood. When One s point of view is
not being recognized, One can start to feel lonely, depressed, frustrated or even angry. Everyone

Markus Zusak, Liesel and Max have each other to understand the others struggles and endeavors.
Max and Liesel gravitate to each other because of the similar experiences and interests they both
have. In the book, Liesel and Max use the Hubermann s basement as a safe haven. While, Max

After the bonfire for the Fuhrer s birthday, Hans and Liesel are talking about what happened to
her parents. She asks if the Fuhrer took them away. With Hans not answering the question, she
knew they had probably been killed and felt [a] slush of anger, stirring hotly in her stomach
(115). The reader can tell that Liesel is fuming with frustration and hatred towards Hitler and the
Nazi Power. Furthermore, Max despised the Nazi s because of the horrible things they did to the
Jews, him, and his family. The reader can tell that Max has a dislike for the Fuhrer because of
the fights Max has with him. Max dreams that he and Hitler fight each other; Punches are
thrown, the crowd climbs out of the walls. Max and the Fuhrer fight for their lives... There s
blood in the Fuhrer s mustache (257). One can obviously conclude that Max strongly abhorred
the Fuhrer because of the pain the Fuhrer cause him and his family. Liesel and Max both feel like
Hitler is the cause of all their struggles and hardship. They feel like he took them away from their
loved ones and was the reason their families died. This hatred towards the fuhrer and his party

According to Mr. D. Ian Guild, Senior Advisor, Forfeiting Syndications Group, Standard Bank, the
cell was being set up after a series of meetings with the bank, and is essentially aimed at
spreading the message of Forfeiting as an effective trade financing mechanism to increase
exports. Suggesting that forfeiting was the ideal springboard for effecting a quantum jump in
exports in the medium term, Mr. Guild said he was confident of aggregating forfeiting business
of $100 millions in 1998 and $250 millions in 1999 in the country. Since its introduction in 1992,
Exim Bank had facilitated 69 forfeiting transactions valued at around $75 millions, with credit
periods ranging between 90 days and seven years, and covering the export of goods ranging from
textiles to plant and machinery. The RBI has now permitted all commercial banks to act as
facilitators for forfeiting transactions. Mr. Guild pointed out that forfeiting has not really taken off
in India because exporters and commercial banks lacked the knowledge of the mechanics of the
scheme. In India, the real challenge would be to motivate small and medium exporters to use the
forfeiting route for exports to countries which may not be able to buy on cash terms. Mr. S.
Bhattacharya, deputy general manager, Exim Bank, Calcutta, said: Payment defaults by overseas

Interval level of measure classifies and order measurement, but also determine the distance
between each interval on a scale that labels low to the high interval. An example is an emergency
room nurse may ask her patient to tell her on a scale 1 10, which number would represent the pain
they are encountering. Also, a temperature can be used as an interval level of measure in
determining the distance between 94 and 96 Celsius degree is the same distance as the temperature
of 100 Celsius to 102 Celsius(Statistic Solution, 2016). Therefore, due to it, characteristic this level
of data has an equal value for the second in time when using interval measurement. However, the

Equal Rights and Gender Equality
Between 1923 and 1972, when the Equal Rights passed you would believe that Gender Equality
would end. It was passed in 35 states. General Equality has been going on for years. Everything
would make everything so much easier if it was Equal for both a men and a women. Where it s at
home, at work, or even at school. Why does one gender have to be better than another? Achieving
Gender equality in educationmeans that boys and girls will have equal opportunities to realize their
full human rightsand contribute to and benefit from economic, social, cultural, and political
development. Our generation can benefit so much. But it if they can benefit why is this only
happening in 35 states instead of all over the world. The biggest Gender Equality problem has to
do with education. A person s education shouldn t be determine because of their Gender. Both a
man and a women can have the same passion for education for wanting to be someone and go
somewhere in life. In Pakistan a women doesn t have the equal right to go to school and learn?
This isn t just happening in Pakistan, it s passing in many other places. Now why does this affect
a women more than it a man? And that s because in Pakistan a women doesn t have the same right
in education as a man does. But why not do something about it. Providing a quality, education leads
to improved enrollment and retention but also helps to ensure that boys and girls are able to fully
realize the benefits of education.

Paccu Cost Analysis Framework
The cost analysis framework is a useful method of engaging policy developers during the
development process of policy interventions. In this case, following the identification of the room
for improvement in PACU, several policy interventions could be adopted to improve the quality of
patient care delivered in the unit. Costanalysis is a suitable tool for such situations. It helps policy
makers to compare the benefits of different potential projects which could be integrated into the
system, to their costs, thus enhancing their choice of the most efficacious option. Specifically, the
cost analysis will enable the policy makers to identify the possible approaches which could be used
to achieve the stated objectives of the project, which, based

Debate Over Stimulated And Overly Connected
Over Stimulated and Overly Connected:
It Maybe Time to Unwind and Disconnect
Jacquelyn Gentry
Eastern Kentucky University
Over Stimulated and Overly Connected:
It Maybe Time to Unwind and Disconnect For many parents; such as myself, it is not uncommon to
have a different activity to drive your child to each night. As a parent of a teenager, it is not
uncommon to see his loving face aglow from the light of his cell phone. In today s age there is
an incessant need to always be busy our selves in fear of being perceived as lazy or perhaps
unsuccessful. A parent who choses to not engage their child in multiple after school activities is
thought to be disengaged or uninterested in their child s development. A child who does not get
to be involved in organized activities can easily feel left out at school when everyone else is
talking about their little league team or dance class. This drive to always be doing something
transfers over, as these children grow into their teenage years. As teenagers, they become very
socially engaged via social media. They develop an overwhelming need to be in constant contact
and socially accepted by their peers. To cut a teenager off from their device is to socially exile
them from the world. In other words, it is considered cruel and unusual punishment . Back in the
day, to go to one s room and have down time was normal and okay. It allotted you the opportunity to
unwind, think about your day, come up with possible resolutions.to

Nonsense Is Defined by Its Inability to be Defined Lewis...
The definition of nonsense has been debated throughout literature. Yet nonsense itself cannot be
defined, but rather it is defined by its inability to be defined. It s the destruction or defiance of the
norm that often leads to creation of nonsense. The language of nonsense itself is closely
intertwined with various techniques of style, structuralization and various motifs. Authors such as
Lewis Caroll in Alice and Wonderland and Edward Lear s The Complete Nonsense of Edward
Lear use such techniques to invoke the language of nonsense as well as to create nonsense within
their writing. Both Lewis Carroll and Edward Lear use the language of nonsense is also defined
by paradoxes, the play on stereotypes, and the usage of polysemy. Lewis... Show more content on

In such a structure, Lear creates a paradox in that he uses various stereotypes of each individual
that he chooses and breaks and defies that stereotype. In the creation of such limericks, Lear is
specific in choosing adjectives; he uses places such as Portugal , Madras , etc. In such places
there is an assumption of a stereotype of the individuals from those places, yet instead of
creating that stereotype he creates nonsensical actions for those individuals. Both Carroll and
Lear use polysemy throughout their nonsense. Polysemy can be defined as words or phrases
having multiple meanings. Carroll uses polysemy in the fact that the creatures often take
specific words for face value. For instance, the word mad has multiple meanings, it can either
mean angry or crazed. Carroll is very careful to create the mad hatter and the as mad as a March
hare as the same individual (Carroll). Yet it is in this matter that also fuels the nonsensical
element has the mad hatter becomes a paradox. Lear uses polysemy as well throughout his
limericks. For instance, There was an Old Person of Leeds/Whose head was infested with beads...
(Lear, 12). The word beads could refer to the things that jewelry is made of or a reference to ones
sanity (i.e. often called marbles in today s society). Such a play on words allow for the

The Sociological Debate Of Nature And Upbringing
The first sociological concept prepped for application to the silver screen is the debate of nature
versus nurture. The phrase nature versus nurture refers to the debate concerning the origin of
human behavior and whether it is determined by biology, the nature part of the equation, or
upbringing, the nurture part of the equation. Biology, in this case, comes down to a person s
genetic predisposition, with proponents claiming that a person is born with the behaviors they
will have for the rest of their lives and nothing will change that. Nature also connects to what
fetuses are exposed to in the womb, as Van Goozen et al. 1994 showed that, ...high levels of
testosterone contribute to stereotypically masculine traits such as aggressiveness and
competitiveness (Ferris and Stein 2016:97). Upbringing, in this case, relates to the environment
someone grew up in and what they were exposed to as they started learning about the world.
Evidence has been found to support either side of the debate, but no conclusive answer has been
reached yet. For the most part, it is believed that both nature and nurture play a role in how our
behaviors and identity develop. The second sociological concept that it up for discussion is the
social conflict theory. This term is used to describe the relationship Karl Marxsaw between between
the bourgeoisie, the owners of the means of productions or, anything that can create wealth (Ferris
and Stein 2016:25), and the proletariat, the workers who

The Problem Of Total Joint Force
The problem the total Joint Force (JF) 2025 will face will be consistent emerging gray zone threats
that include hybrid and near peer competitors trying to tip the balance in the global security
environment. In addition, as the Department of Defense (DOD) learned from past wars while its
resources reduce, the total JF 2025 must adapt and become more agile in countering these emerging
threats. The DOD has provided the strategic and militaryguidance along with associated posturing
statements for the complementary capabilities of strategic adaptability and agility that will enable
the rebalancing of the total JF 2025, support future contingency operations, and mitigate risk.
Recently General Dunford stated, a ready JF is one that can effectively meet the steady state
requirements of the combatant commanders, deter our adversaries, and respond decisively in the
event of a contingency. The total JF in 2025 will need to adapt and become more agile faster than
these emerging threats. It will also need to continue deterring global adversaries if it wants to
sustain enduring strategic and operational success while remaining decisive in supporting the
national defense strategy.
The DOD has released multiple documents since 2012 in support of developing its defense
strategy. First, the 2012 Defense Strategic Guidance and 2014 Quadrennial Defense Review,
established priorities that included, rebalance to the Asia Pacific region, maintain security in
Europe and the Middle East;

Leadership for Healthcare in 21st Century Essay
As 21st century, there is a change in era technology thus the leadership style also must update in
line with the current development. It same goes with the changes in leadership for healthcare in

As we want to achieve the goals to build healthcare organization with productively and
economically, there are common issues or challenges that leader face today. As they may relate
and involve in many people, the problem may occur. First challenge that may face is
reconciliation challenge. It is difficult to change the old behaviour of some people. This is
because it has become habit to them. Changing the people behaviour and introduce the new
practice will cause a conflict between follower and leader. Donahue explained that in order to
handle the conflict and ask the follower to stop the bad habit, the leader should speak the truth but
do it in a gracious, even tone, seeking to understand the other person even as they point out the
problem (Donahue, 2013). Leader should give some space to explain and response but make sure
the whole words are truth.
Second challenge is learning challenge. Leader will faced problem in teach the entire follower.
Sometimes learning process can be long time for the certain people. According to Donahue

The Giving Tree Essay
The Giving Tree Critical Analysis Paragraph The Giving Tree is a story many children have
grown up with. It has always been generally interpreted as a blissful narrative, warming the heart
of children and their parents. Throughout the story, readers are able to observe the gift of giving
and how to show unconditional love. However, rereading the story with more analysis can make
one look at the book in a more malevolent perspective. In fact, it may make many individuals who
once loved The Giving Tree as a child, wince and question the ideas being displayed in the book.
If one were to look at the story in a more oppositional point of view, they can see that the narrative
promotes narcissism. A narcissist is an individual who has a distorted self... Show more content on

one day as a teen. At this point in time, the tree is content that the boy has returned, little does she
know he has come not to play but to ask for something, saying I want to buy things and have fun.
I want some money? (Silverstein 3).This is when she offers him her apples so he can sell them
for money. What should be pointed out in these lines is that the boy consistently says I want .
This shows his tendency to think about himself. Readers should question why he was not able
to consider the feelings of the tree. Why did he not begin his conversation with the tree, by
asking how she is doing after all these years? Instead, he goes straight to his wants. This display
of character only enhances the view of looking at the boy as a more selfish person; an individual
who only thinks of themselves. However, it does not end there, the boy proceeds again in his adult
years asking for a

  • 2. Culture and Cuicine in Canada Canadian Culture: The Northern Mosaic Canada is one of two countries located in North America and is the second largest country in the world. It is situated just north of the United States and constitutes the northern part of the country, excluding Alaska. Over the years Canada s culture has been influenced by European culture and traditions, mainly that of the French and British. Canadian culture has also been influenced by the countries first people, the Aboriginals, as well as the newer immigrated population (Wikipedia, 2007). Canada consists of ten provinces and three northern territories, almost all of which are rich in land and natural resources (Bailey, par. 2). Canada is often referred to as a mosaic community because there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A trend in Canada has witnessed a Celtic revival which saw many Maritime musicians and songs rise to prominence (Wikipedia, 2007, par.9). Many of the Maritimes cultural activities can be traced back to rural resource based economies of fishing, forestry, coal mining, and farming. Atlantic fishing is by far the largest industry on the East Coast. Nova Scotia and Newfoundland are the dominant provinces contributing to the fishing industry. According to the Canadian Fisheries Annual Statistical Review (1980), there are approximately eighty thousand fishermen and fish processing plant workers involved in the Atlantic fishing industry which makes up three quarters of Canada s total fish revenue (as cited in Natural Resources in Canada, 1985). A few of these provinces also rely on their fertile land for growing such items as potatoes, strawberries, blueberries, apples and a variety of other small fruits and vegetables (Farming in Canada, 1989). Although many people from this region find a higher quality of life in the Atlantic area, Iain Wallace (2001) explains that much of the younger crowds migrate to other, more prosperous, areas of the country. The last region that will be focused on is the Northern Territories; which includes the Northwest Territories, Yukon, and the newest territory, Nunavut. There are many different languages spoken in this region, and many of them have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Police Brutality And Police Officers The heated issue of police brutality and police officers violating civil rights has extensively covered media headlines for several years. Hundreds of people are killed every year by police officers, and many of these cases bring up issues of police brutality. More often than not, it is usually a white police officer and an african american offender encounter that sparks media attention. The shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri is just one of these cases that has caused a major divide in the United States. Michael Brown was fatally shot by Officer Wilson after an unfriendly encounter in the streets. Those who believe that Officer Wilson made the right decision in shooting Michael Brown, point to the fact that the grand jury chose not to indict him. Although Darren WIlson was not charged after the shooting of unarmed Michael Brown, some people believe that his actions were unlawful and he should have received some sort of punishment for his wrongdoing. Acknowledging all of the facts of the investigation, Officer Wilson did not act properly in the circumstances of the time. Many people believe that Officer Darren Wilson made the right decision when he fatally shot Michael Brown because he feared for his life. • 6. The Rotten Damage Of Food Waste The Rotten Damage of Food Waste Growing up, children were most likely told to always finish all the food on their plates because somewhere else in the world, another child was starving. Most kids never really understand how serious the matter actually is and it is expected for adults to know better but here we are in 2016 where roughly one third of food produced is wasted every year. The problem with this is that about 21,000 people die per day from starvation, but where is that food they need to live? It s rotting in the fridge, it s being used for contests to see who can eat the fastest, or it s simply been thrown away because the sun has gone down and people refuse to buy it the following day if it s not new. What s even more depressing is that most starvation deaths are of children. The first problem here is poverty. How can someone work when they re so hungry and sick? How can someone get a job they re too sick to work? It s bad enough that a child would die of starvation, but if the father or mother dies of starvation, then the whole family could die too due to the fact that there s no one to go to work. Not many people step up to help the hungry child because they have their own family to think about. This isn t to say that no one notices starving countries because it s more than likely that everyone has seen the commercials on tv of children in different countries running around while the narrator explains how anyone can help by simply donating maybe five dollars. ... • 7. Voltaire s View Of Oppression From The Authority It is dangerous to be right in matters about which the established authorities are wrong. Voltaire The struggles against authority, repeatedly and continuously, take place in the history. As for those fighters, Voltaire, a famous French writer and thinker, once put forward an idea, It is dangerous to be right in matters about which the established authorities are wrong. () The word right contrasting to wrong means the truth. An established authorities could be regarded to the dominant powers controlling and guiding people, such as long existing conventions held and propagated by the power holders or the influential experts in specific fields. The article will support the idea of Voltaire by providing sufficient and concrete evidences. It is reasonable that people might suffer the possibility of oppression from the authority, when the ideas of the former contrasts to the latter who tend to retain its status. The challenger is dangerous in the way that the power of authorities, at most time, overwhelm them; the characteristic of opposing ideas invites the oppression by authority. It is possible to receive potential danger from the authority, while some did succeed in the struggle. It is obvious that the comparison between two power is usually dismatched. The opponents are often overshadowed by the authorities, in turn, the opponents are weaker, two aspects in particular. Convention gets in the way of innovation and rebellion. Observational Learning Experience If I were to have a five year old nephew and I were to have to teach him something I would mostly likely use a combination of reinforcers and observational learning. Both positive and negative punishment would be implemented in the teaching process, as well as the observational part so that they all compliment each other. Most likely I would begin to teach him to play baseballand basketball since most, including myself, start around that age. Although, I would not be as hard on him as my brothers were on me when it came to sports. I would begin to teach him baseball since it is my favorite. Again I was always taught in more of a punishment type approach and again it worked for me, but I believe it depends on the kid that is being taught and how they handle it. The same goes for basketball as it did baseball, I would teach him the concept and objective of the game. When a kid this age is being taught it is all really observational, because they look to you for guidance and on how to do everything properly. They literally try to copy everything you do. When it comes to basketball once he has the concept down and I have taught him how to do everything correctly, I would take more of punishment route. For example, if he keeps missing lay ups, I would make him make fifty before he could move on to anything else. If he has trouble dribbling, then I would make him do dribbling drills until he has started to improve. The same goes for baseball too. Punishment in a form that improves his game by making him to the same thing over and over again until he gets better. My punishment in both sports was that I would always have to run if I messed up repeatedly. That only makes you want to do better, which makes you better in the long run, but making him repeat what he needs to improve has more of a direct correlation in helping his weak aspects of the ... What is an eating disorder though? The simple definition of this disease is that a person exhibits abnormal eating behaviors. There are many different variations to these disorders but they share many of the same characteristics such as: fear of becoming obese, obsession with thinness, food, weight, and even calorie counting. Of the many cases though what is the main cause of this disease? Can it be psychological, an environmental, or a biological factor? The three main symptoms are an excessive amount of intake of food accompanied by self induced vomiting, fasting and/or obsessive or compulsive exercise, and extreme concern with body weight and shape. The recurrent binge and purge cycles can damage the entire digestive system and can lead to electrolyte and chemical imbalances in the body that affect the heart and other major organ functions. Some health consequences of bulimia nervosa are irregular heartbeats, possibly heart failure and death, inflammation and possible rupture of the esophagus from frequent vomiting, tooth decay and staining from stomach acids released, irregular bowel movements and constipation. People struggling with bulimia nervosa usually appear to be of average body weight (National). Physical appearance is not the only issue that this disease faces in people. They also face problems with psychological, environmental and biological issues in life. Since there is no clear way to tell which of these factors is the culprit of causing eating disorders, each factor needs to be looked at. Environmental factors is plays one of the biggest roles in eating disorders. As a society, we are taught that looks matter. So what makes a person associate thinness with beauty? I learned different things with each of the assignments I submitted. I learned things like how to develop my writing and how to transition my writing to flow better together. I learned to correctly cite in text citations and I learned how to create a profile. I then submitted my final draft to iNet. My topic for my research paper was technology s impact on today s society. I talked about the positive and negative impacts technology has on our society everyday and I was able to give evidence of my ideas with information I found when researching. I explained that technology has helped with finding new ways to teach students including those with disabilities and how it has helped to advance the health and medicinal field. I also explained some downsides such as the addiction and absence of face to face interaction that come along with technology. Each of my assignments for this class included revising and editing at the attempt to hand in the best possible work. I made sure I read over my work before handing it in to assure that there were little to no grammatical or spelling errors. My biggest struggle in this area was working on transitions and organization throughout my assignments to make sure my paper flowed better as a whole. • 11. Immigration And Illegal Immigration During our most recent Presidential election, Donald Trump brought up the topic of illegal immigration in most of his debates. Stating that he would build a wall to separate Mexico and the United States because of his belief that immigration is hurting our society. Many of his voters also believe this as the truth. Carrying the idea that illegal immigrationlessens the economy, burdens our Government institution and is unfair to those who came to America legally. However, undocumented immigrants carry much more positive affirmations than negative ones for the United States. The United States economy was originally built on the backs of immigrants. In today s economy, illegal immigrants build a great foundation to help bring out the best for other citizens. Supplying a workforce for jobs that other Americans may not want. Cleaning, house care, lawn work, dog walking, construction, and so on. Seeing it from the other perspective, it could be thought that illegal immigrants are stealing these jobs away from Americans. However, immigrants who participate in these jobs help stimulate the economy. Working in jobs that create time for whoever hired them. This allows whoever the individual is to be more productive or to do whatever they want with the saved amount of time they have. The economy is stimulated by this as the saying the more time; the more money said person could make. Also, participation by immigrants creates more revenue for the Government. • 13. Values And Values In Beowulf Character can be easily identified through motivations and the decisions they influence. It also shows what a culture or a person values as significant. The epic of Gilgamesh provides insight into the way that Sumerian culture worked by focusing on certain aspects of day to day life. The same happens in the epic of Beowulf, where the day to day life of each character sheds light on the values that the Anglo Saxons prized, such as loyalty to family. The actions and motivations of characters in the epic poem Beowulf showcase the Anglo Saxon mindset of the importance of family. Beowulf s reason for coming to the Denmark is not simply to prove himself or to save the Danes out of the goodness of his heart, but to repay his father s debt. Hrothgar points this out by saying: There was a feud one time, begun by your father ... finally I healed the feud by paying: I shipped a treasure trove to the Wulfings and Ecgtheow acknowledged me with oaths of allegiance ( Beowulf 459, 470 473) Beowulf acknowledges the debt, showing that he feels bound by his father s mistakes. This gives the insight into Anglo Saxon culture that mistakes and wrongdoings are not merely the responsibility of the people who make them, but also their entire families. After Beowulf fights Grendel, Hrothgar speaks to him about how much he loves him. He thanks Beowulf profusely for killing the monster, saying, What you have done is draw two peoples, the Geat Nation and us neighboring Danes, into shared peace ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This device used electrical signals to transmit messages. The telegraph played a significant role in transmitting messages over long spaces. Its usage was in Law enforcement, army and newspapers. Even so, anyone could post messages using a telegram via a service. Today, there are roughly three principal methods of measuring the velocity of data contagion. Baud rate (signaling events per minute), BPS (bits per Sec) and CPS (characters per minute). The fact is, today the baud rate has been substituted with a more precise unit of measurement. Telephones are most mutual and are ground in almost every home and organizations. Telephones worked by using a PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network). Invention is the start of the persuasion and the thought of what is wanted to be accomplished. Then, the issue itself needs to be figured out and resolved. Finally, the person needs to think about the audience and what their values are. That will get an individual a start on the art of persuasion. Carmilla s execution is described as follows: The body, therefore, in accordance with the ancient practice, was raised, and a sharp stake driven through the heart of the vampire, who uttered a piercing shriek at the moment, in all respects such as might escape from a living person in the last agony. Then the head was struck off, and a torrent of blood flowed from the severed neck. The body and head were next placed on a pile of wood, and reduced to ashes, which were thrown upon the river and borne away, and that territory has never since been plagued by the visits of a vampire. As a parent of a teenager, it is not uncommon to see his loving face aglow from the light of his cell phone. In today s age there is an incessant need to always be busy our selves in fear of being perceived as lazy or perhaps unsuccessful. A parent who choses to not engage their child in multiple after school activities is thought to be disengaged or uninterested in their child s development. A child who does not get to be involved in organized activities can easily feel left out at school when everyone else is talking about their little league team or dance class. This drive to always be doing something transfers over, as these children grow into their teenage years. As teenagers, they become very socially engaged via social media. In such a structure, Lear creates a paradox in that he uses various stereotypes of each individual that he chooses and breaks and defies that stereotype. In the creation of such limericks, Lear is specific in choosing adjectives; he uses places such as Portugal , Madras , etc. In such places there is an assumption of a stereotype of the individuals from those places, yet instead of creating that stereotype he creates nonsensical actions for those individuals. Both Carroll and Lear use polysemy throughout their nonsense. Polysemy can be defined as words or phrases having multiple meanings. Carroll uses polysemy in the fact that the creatures often take specific words for face value. For instance, the word mad has multiple meanings, it can either mean angry or crazed. Carroll is very careful to create the mad hatter and the as mad as a March hare as the same individual (Carroll). The phrase nature versus nurture refers to the debate concerning the origin of human behavior and whether it is determined by biology, the nature part of the equation, or upbringing, the nurture part of the equation. Biology, in this case, comes down to a person s genetic predisposition, with proponents claiming that a person is born with the behaviors they will have for the rest of their lives and nothing will change that. Nature also connects to what fetuses are exposed to in the womb, as Van Goozen et al. 1994 showed that, ...high levels of testosterone contribute to stereotypically masculine traits such as aggressiveness and competitiveness (Ferris and Stein 2016:97). Upbringing, in this case, relates to the environment someone grew up in and what they were exposed to as they started learning about the world. Evidence has been found to support either side of the debate, but no conclusive answer has been reached yet. For the most part, it is believed that both nature and nurture play a role in how our behaviors and identity develop. The second sociological concept that it up for discussion is the social conflict theory.
