Astronomy Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of astronomy can be both a fascinating and challenging endeavor.
Astronomy is a vast and complex field that encompasses a wide range of topics, from the study
of celestial bodies and their movements to the exploration of the universe's origins and mysteries.
The difficulty in composing such an essay lies in the need to distill this vast amount of
information into a coherent and engaging piece of writing.
Firstly, the sheer breadth of astronomical knowledge can be overwhelming. Choosing specific
aspects to focus on becomes a critical task, as attempting to cover everything could result in a
superficial and disjointed essay. Additionally, the terminology and concepts within astronomy
can be intricate, requiring a careful balance between providing enough detail for comprehension
and avoiding overwhelming the reader with technical jargon.
Furthermore, staying up-to-date with the latest discoveries and developments in the field is
essential for creating a relevant and informative essay. Astronomy is a dynamic science, with
new findings emerging regularly. This necessitates constant research and the ability to sift
through vast amounts of information to identify key trends and breakthroughs.
Crafting an engaging narrative is another challenge. While the subject matter may be inherently
captivating, conveying the excitement of astronomical exploration to a diverse audience requires
effective storytelling skills. Striking a balance between conveying scientific information
accurately and making it accessible to readers with varying levels of expertise can be demanding.
In conclusion, writing an essay on astronomy demands not only a solid understanding of the
subject but also the ability to navigate its complexities and present information in a compelling
way. It's a task that requires research, careful planning, and effective communication skills to
ensure that the essay serves both educational and engaging purposes.

Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan
Tampa Bay, Florida is ranked in the top 20s of one of the highest populated, metro
population destinations in the United States (Tampa Bay Business Journal Staff
Member, 2011). In fact, in the year 2011, there were more than 2,823,938
documented residents residing in the Tampa Bay area as well as 87.3 million
tourists visiting Tampa Bay and its surrounding areas in the same year (Tampa Bay
Business Journal Staff Member, 2011, State of Florida.com, n.d.). As a result, the city
of Tamp Bay, Florida puts great stress on its Comprehensive Emergency Management

incorporates approximately 170 square miles, with land‐surface elevations ranging
from sea‐level along the coast to approximately 55 feet above sea level (City of

Relationship Between Age And Confidence
Furthermore, the relationship between age and confidence in God s existence is
positive. This is supported by the Pearson s R value of .107, which is above 0
making it positive, found in Table 2. However, because a value of 1 represents a
perfectly positive linear line, the low R value suggests that our line is nearly
horizontal and will have a small slope. In order to find how confident we are this
relationship exists we can run a t test for R, which is included at the bottom of
Table 1. The test shows there is confidence that the relationship is evident, because
the p value is .01, so the null hypothesis can be rejected, that there is no relationship
between the variables. Rather, there is confidence there is in fact a relationship
between age and one s faith, which supports the hypothesis that the two variables
are connected. Again this only shows the relationship is positive, but not how
great of an affect age has on faith. The relationship that faith increases as age
increase is more evident in a graph. Figure 2 compares age to the average amount
of belief for its respective age group. The data has some variation from what was
expected. For example, the average belief for 18 year olds is somewhere between
Knows God Exists, But Has Doubts, and Knows God Exists, which is higher than
the hypothesis, which predicted they would be much more skeptical. However, this
could be because at this age kids are just now starting to break away from the
influence their parents
Ap Human Genetics Chapter 6 Analysis
In chapter 6, we are introduced to Barbara McClintock, a scientist who would
change how we viewed genetics as a whole. Similar to other some other female
scientist, she was largely ignored for her ideas but we came to realize the
importance of her research. McClintock focuses a lot of her research on corn and its
genetic material and evolutionary history. By studying corn she found that certain
areas of the corn would have different colors. For example, while most of the corn
would be yellow, there could be purple sections within the same corn. Upon further
research, she proved the hypothesis that sections of corn DNAwere actually
jumping or moving from one section of the genome to another. These genes that
could jump and move into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was also shown that the area where the genes moved into were not random but, in
fact, had a particular method of where and when genes would transpose. To modern
genetics, these ideas supported the idea that an organism s genome could actually
spur mutations if it could increase the survival of the organism. These ideas also
change how we view genomics because now areas where there are noncoding regions
could in fact have been areas where these transposons could have existed but have
since lost function. Therefore, we can study these regions to find evidence that they
may have previously been transposons. They may have lost their function due to the
increase stability of our environment or some other reason. Interestingly, her work has
some larger complications on evolution as a whole. In fact, her ideas suggest that
evolution may not have needed generations upon generations to produce a result, but
with transposons, could occur much faster than thought possible. This is because not
just one codon is being mutated but entire sections are being moved around.
However, it is important to note that the transposons are not imparting advantages
with every occurrence but rather are increasing the variation
An Essay on Jamba Juice
Introduction
Our product is Jamba Juice and our target country is Spain. We chose this product
because it has grown to become one of the nation s best known smoothie chains,
emphasizing the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and because the company is looking
for international expansion opportunities. We chose Spain as our target country for
expansion of our product due to its current economic status and economic growth
forecasts for the future. This combination provides the firm with an opportunity to
offer our product to a growing economy and marketplace.

The government of Spain actively supports the small business sector of the
economy. As of 2006 there were over 3 million small and medium sized businesses
in Spain, representing over 99% of all businesses in the country. The Spanish
government provides various grants and incentives for the creation and expansion of
small businesses in Spain as well as support and services to business owners. Recent
government campaigns and initiatives have focused on support for entrepreneurs,
primarily in response to Spain s economic goals for the future. Increasing
competitiveness and promoting innovation were identified as key strategies to
maintain, grow and keep Spain s economy dynamic (Dreamer, 2008). The key factors
such as strong economy, large population base, expansive tourist trade and active
government involvement provide a strong argument for migration into Spain s
marketplace.
Reasons for Expansion
Jamba has become a way of life for millions of Americans and the company believes
that they can extend that opportunity to Spain and other international marketplaces. A
recent Piper Jaffray report suggested that the company has room to grow not only in
U.S. markets but internationally as well (Fuhrmann, 2007).

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Industrialised Building...
Introduction
Through globalization, technology has increased rapidly in not only in Malaysia but
also other country. In Malaysia, Industrialised Building System (IBS) is one of the
technologies that has implemented by government. It has started since 1960 s. But
however it becomes more popular in 1998 when government recommends a Strategic
Plan as the blueprint for whole construction sector.
IBS system has been promoting by CIDB. To increase the use of IBS, CIDB has
taken the step of formulating IBS Roadmap. The main reason for implementing IBS
system in Malaysia is to increase the productivity, waste of construction material, time
and reduce the use foreign labors.
However, implementation of IBS has not found popular from local construction
industry. There is very low profile of construction sector using IBS as their main
building construction.
Hence, in this assignment has discussed the definition of IBS, types, characteristics,
advantages and disadvantages of IBS. IBS is being proposed to ... Show more content

This technique of construction is a friendly and controlled environment, transported,
positioned and assembled into a formation with least additional site work needed.
Besides, industrialized building system (IBS) can be defined where all slab, wall,
beam, column, and staircase are mass produced either in factory or at site factory
with strict quality control according to Warswaski (1999). It can be defined by
industrialized process which every building components are planning, prefabricated,
conceived, transported and erected on site. (Thanoon W. A. M., Peng, L, 2003).
Hence, in simple form of definition of IBS is a construction system that built using
prefabricated components based on Rahman and Omar (2006). This IBS system can
be made using machine, formworks and other machinery
The Life Of Britney Spears
I ve been watching, along with the rest of the world, a very sad unraveling of a
human life. The recent events in the life of Britney Spears may not be anything
new in the world of celebrity, but it certainly has been one of the most put on
public display breakdowns in recent entertainment history. I was talking to my
children last night about how truly sad the whole situation is, and how more
people need to comprehend that even if they were never a fan of Britney or her
music, they still need to realize that this is a person who is struggling and
definitely in need of help. I have read countless statements by people who have
gone as far as to say that she should just give up and die already.....I m tired of
hearing about it. That is one of the more appalling statements I ve seen. I will go
on record as saying I have not ever been a fan of her music, or thought she has
made the best choices in her personal life perhaps (at least in how these things were
portrayed in public), but in no way would I wish what she is going through on any
human being. As someone who interviews musicians all the time, and now 1 celeb
as well, it is more than ever clear to me that they are regular people like the rest of
us. Would we expect to be treated that way if we were struggling? Does being in
the public eye mean they put themselves out there for public ridicule and should
just deal with it? I can only say that if she were my sister or daughter I would be in
tears every day to see her
Analysis Of The Book Leningrad
Leningrad: The message meant to change society s views Billy Joel is an
American singer and songwriter who toured Russia in the later days of the Cold
War in the mid 1980 s. Billy Joel was the first American to tour any communist
country since the Berlin Wall was built in 1961 and the raising of the Iron Curtain.
Billy Joel, through the use of this Russian tour, was able to witness the Russian life
first hand. During this tour he began to realize that not everything he had been taught
about the Russians and the life they lived was entirely true. During the tour Joel
became friends with a Man named Viktor who attended all of the performances
during this tour. Billy Joel s management learned about Viktor and set up a way for
the pair to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Billy Joel also makes it clear that we can not judge a group of people strictly on
their leader s actions because they do not necessarily represent the popular opinion
that their nation s people have. The song Leningrad is of interest to me because I
am a musician myself and I play the piano as does Billy Joel. Music has always
played a substantial role in my life so I decided to use a music as the artifact of this
assignment. To me, it is interesting to find out how a popular song can change and
affect the opinions and thinking of its listeners through the use of a mass media
outlet. The average person does not typically take an analytical approach to a song
to figure out the message behind it. It is also interesting that a listener can still be
persuaded by a song s message whether the listener knows it is happening or not.
The use of song as a way to shed light on social situations has been around for many
years and frequently these songs usually focus on issues on a more minor scale.
Leningrad does the exact opposite by not only being used for entertainment but also
by using a war that most people had grown up through and showing how we can help
resolve these issues that caused the war. Approaching the song Leningrad from a
theoretical understanding is useful in that it shows how Billy Joel uses his words and
experiences with the Russian people to persuade and change the opinions that the
American people have towards the Russian s system of
How Offspring Education Level Improve Parents Longevity
3. WAYS OFFSPRING EDUCATION LEVEL IMPROVE PARENTS LONGEVITY
3.1 Children level of education
Friedman and Mare (Friedman and Mare 2014) explained the association between
how far a child goes in school and how long their parents live. They found that
parents of college graduates lived about two years longer on average than those
whose children didn t graduate from high school. Education of family members is an
important factor linked to the longevity of older adults in this case to their parents.
According to the chart, offspring and parents obtain similar levels of schooling.

Offspring may indirectly affect their parents health because parents might or might
not be suffering from a health problem. In this scenario all that the offspring can do
is provide their parents with the best possible care available. Offspring cannot
influence the genes of the parents, but they can provide early treatment of their
health problems. Treating a health problem at its early stages can help a person
obtain more years in life. Highly educated offspring may also indirectly influence
their parents to engage in healthier behaviors. As Morin (Morin 2014) raise the
question of why do the parents of better educated kids live longer? One reason
explained that better educated children influence their parents to adopt healthier
lifestyles that will add years to their parents lives.
The United States is highlighted by the rapid, increasing of the older population.
According to the video Living Old, those who are aged 85 and older are the fastest
growing segment of the U.S. population (Chapter 1). In the 30 years after the video
was made it was predicted that the number of people aged 65 and older will double,
making up twenty percent of the U.S. population (Living Old Chapter 1). According
to the video, the population is changing in this way because medical advances have
made doctors improved at treating illnesses that in the past have killed younger
people (Living Old Chapter 1). This is causing older adults to require more ongoing

Physical Security Principles
Physical Security Principles

Abstract
Physical safety inside and out depends on the type of physical security that is being
used by that facility. How well the buildings security system is being implemented can
have an impact on the safety of its patrons and other individuals who frequent the
building.
Physical Security Principles
Safety in numbers has always been a deterrent method when leaving or traveling
through places that are not safe. But without proper physical security measures set
in place when leaving any facility or building the need for a crowd will be of no use.
Proper physical security requires accessing the risk that may cause ... Show more

Technology Advancement
Physical security for any facility is a major factor for keeping safe and having
modern technology on site is a greater addition. Protecting the facilities assets
requires the company to stay ahead with modern day upgrades and devices for
ensuring that whatever or whomever is gaining access to the property is suppose to
be there. Monitoring the individuals who enter through facility access control and
perimeter fences or installing video and closed circuit television surveillance can
eliminate trespassers and those with no prior business on the property. Personal
identification systems can also be established that use fingerprints and biometrics to
gain access into any facility for staff and personnel. The amount of technology to use
for physical security is unlimited depending on the facility and what needs protecting.
Conclusion
Physical security involves many components such as location, configuration, size,
shape, and many other vital attributes that comes with a standing structure. Keeping
people safe on the inside as well as those on the outside requires security principles
that go beyond what just the normal eye can see. Applying the correct physical
equipment to lower the risk of unwanted behaviors and attacks depends on how well
the perimeter is guarded. Advanced technology including cameras and monitoring
systems add to the insurance of physical security and if used
Persuasive Essay On Winter Blues
When the cold weather comes around, it s easy for the winter blues to take effect.
With snow on the ground, ice on the windshield, and below freezing temperatures
to battle with throughout the day, most people just want to get getaway from it all
and for good reasons too. If you haven t felt it yet, it might important to note that:
the winter blues typically sets in right after the holidays, when it s time to take
down your Christmas decoration, get back to work, take care of kids, and prepare
yourself for the upcoming year. That s because the vast majority of people find
that winter is an extremely difficult time of year to gather the strength to feel joy
and excitement about practically anything. Fortunately, a visit to any of your
favorite warmer climate destinations will have you forgetting about the slush, ice,
snow boots, and dark season in no time. So, if you find that you re unmotivated,
checked out, and heavy hearted, try to fight these feelings by taking steps towards
the light even in the darkest part of winter. That, of course, is easier said than done
for some people. If you and your family are in need of a winter vacation but if cost is
a major factor, consider one of these affordable and super fun destinations where
your money will go a lot farther. Dallas, Texas Some of you may have all heard
that everything is bigger in Texas and well, it is. Dallas isn t home to just the

The way in which the preliminary s helped was so I could try out different
concentrations and different volumes to work out which ones would produce the
most accurate and widely spread results I could manage. The final way they helped
is a simple one, the got me used to doing the experiment so by the time I needed to
do my real results and real experiment I could get everything ready, start and finish
quite fast and accurately.
Initial method:
My initial method was as follows:
Preparation:
First I made sure that I had prepared the equipment required and has checked to see
if they were all working and reliable, making sure not to have forgotten anything.
Then I made sure to fully protected my eyes and face by then putting some safety
goggles on.
The next bit of preparation was to mark the cross on the piece of paper, I did this
with a biro which was the thinest pen I could find, this meant that the cross i drew
was as accurate as possible.
I then boiled a kettle it make boiling water which i was going to put in the conical
flask later on. After that I started to make the concentration of the sodium thiosulfate
by mixing it with the correct volume of water in the measuring cylinder
The actual test:
All I had to do now was to add the concentration of sodium thiosulfate to the
hydrochloric acid
At the exact same time as the above step happens I start the stopwatch.
Making sure that the conical flask is directly on top of the cross
Aggressive Behavior And Victimization Essay
Aggressive Behavior and Victimization has long term effects for the victimized, the
bystander, and the perpetrator.
Victimized:
Aggressive behavior is a major factor in short and long term physical and mental
health, education, and long term adult relationships, and work opportunities.
Repetitive aggressive and victimization increases the risk of reduced self esteem,
anxiety, depression and social isolation and poor physical health including substance
abuse and suicide.
Victimized individuals may incur or engage in adult abuse cycles, instability in long
term relationships, problems at work, and an inability to achieve economic
independence.

Bystanders become desensitized to anti social behaviors, or becoming bullies
themselves.
Many bystanders make excuses for the behavior to stay on the favored side
(Coloroso, 2011 pg38).
Bulling often incurs no immediate consequence therefore celebrated by those who
indulge in the behavior, actively or passively, whilst the bullied hide in the shadows.
Perpetrator:
The Perpetrator will display internalized symptoms. Perpetrators of aggressive
behavior become desensitized to aggression through having their behavior validated
by friends and bystanders (J.F. Sigurdson and co authors 2016). This makes the bully
feel superior to others loosing empathy for others considered beneath them.
Perpetrators of aggressive behavior lack social skills of negotiation, fair play, or
compromise leading to the belief that aggression is the only way to get the desired
result. This inability to create equable settings amongst peers forms social isolation
and depression. The perpetrator internalizes these traits so as not to appear weak to
maintain the façade of strength and
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tribals
ii.Problems of assimilation with the non tribal People: The indigenous people of the
Dooars were the Koch Rajbanshis, the Mech, the Rabhas and the Lepchas. They were
well dependent on their traditional village economy of agriculture, hunting, fishing,
and forest based economy. After the introduction of tea plantation in Dooars, the
planters encouraged the immigration of the Nepalese, and then the tea planters
decided to bring labourers from the Santal Parganas and Chhotonagpur plateau. In the
second part of nineteenth century, a large number of tribal people mainly of Oraons,
Santals, Mundas and Malpaharis in migrated to the Dooars. Again after the partition
of the country in 1947, and emergence of Bangladesh in 1971, streams of
immigration or infiltration from East Pakistan and Bangladesh occurred in the areas.
The immigrated Bangladeshi people occupied a vast areas in almost everywhere.
Thus the Dooars grew into a new hub of multi racial and multi lingual people, and of
course, this led the demographic and cultural environment to be too complex for the
future.
iii.Loss of Control over Natural Resources: Before coming of the British, the tribals
enjoyed unhindered rights of ownership and management over natural resources like
land, forests, wildlife water, soil, fishes etc. Indigenous peoples have an intuitive
relationship with nature, a wealth of traditional knowledge, and have used natural
resources for their livelihood. But, after the introduction of plantation

The Dichotomy Over Civilian Gun Control
Junie Kim
AP Capstone Seminar

30 November 2015
Individual Research Report For decades, the United States has been split by a
dichotomy over civilian gun control. Gun control is the term used to describe how
firearms may be legally produced, sold, and used, (Gale). As stated in the Second
Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, A well regulated militia, being necessary to the
security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be
infringed, (Gottesman/Brown). However, research seems to indicate that owning a
gun or even just seeing one [can] change how people behave, (Striepe). Studies have
shown that weapons negatively affect the individual s psychological processes.
Actions of aggression or agitation have been shown to increase during experimental
situations in which guns are in view of the subject. The purpose of this project was
to determine the extent of how ownership of guns and other weapons could create
conflict, and to propose a solution to minimize these consequences. By studying how
weapons can affect humans intrinsically and psychologically by slowly changing
behaviors and beliefs over time, insight can be gained on the true dangers of gun
ownership. This scientific approach also provided a look at the deeper consequences
of civilian weapon control, allowing for further refinement in the creation of a
solution to reverse the effects of gun control in the future. In 1967, Leonard

Panama History and Culture Essay
Panama History and Culture The culture and political structures of Panama as we
know it today has evolved from an incredibly diverse and interesting history.
Geographically, Panama lies on an isthmus, a strip of land that essentially connects
the greater landmasses of North and South America. It is believed that volcanic
activity in the late Pliocene era closed the former Central American Seaway that had
separated the two continents. The climatic implications of this landform are
incredible, allowing for the redistribution of oceanic currents and the formation of the
Gulf Stream of the Atlantic of today. The native populations of Panama include the

However, this union too would collapse in 1840, when separatist Panamanian forces
led by a group of rebels called the Sociedad de Amigos del PaГs began to resist the
governance of BogotГЎ. Panama is geographically placed at extreme economic
advantage due to its close and centralized proximity to North and South America and
easy accessibility by sea, yet the Columbian Republic kept this advantage at bay for
political purposes, creating a situation in which Panama was essentially left at an
economic standstill. This tactic created a situation which made Panama s economic
advancement nearly impossible. This coupled with requests for large sums of money
from the Panamanian treasury to fund the war in Pasto, despite unquestionably trying
times, led to the revolutionary upheaval. In October of 1840, the new Governor
Carlos de Icaza refused to comply to yet another request from BogotГЎ for more
funds from Panama on the grounds that the Panamanian treasury was empty. Four
weeks after this announcement, on November 18, 1840, Panama declared its
independence (MГ©ndez). In 1903, the United states under President Theodore
Roosevelt signed a treaty with Panama which gave over the rights to build and
control the passage through what we now know as the famous Panama Canal, with
the purpose of creating a politically, economically and geographically significant
waterway that would allow for the travel of ships from the
The Tribes Of Benjamin And Judah To Fall To The Neo...
1) Why do you think God allowed the tribes of Benjamin and Judah to fall to the
Neo Babylonians in 587 6 B.C.? God had mercy on Judah for a long time, while
they turned to Him for help and listened to Him. But after King Manasseh s reign of
rampant idolatry, in which he murdered innocent people and led Judah to follow false
gods, God said that he would judge them by giving them up to their enemies. 2) How
did the Babylonians differ in the treatment of prisoners than the Assyrians? Whenever
they conquered a country, the Assyrians would kill all the able bodied men there and
move the survivors to a different land within the Assyrian Empire. Then they would
repopulate the conquered country with people from another one. In contrast, the
How To Set Time Limits For Children In The USA
Children in the U.S.A. have an avereage of 7.5 hours behind a device every day!
Between 2011 and 2013, children ages 8 and younger more than doubled their usage
of technology with screens. There are multiple ways that setting time limits for
children on thier devices can benifit their overall sleep, development, and depression.
First of all, sleep is essential for children, and putting a television in front of them will
only make it more difficult. Because, according to a scientific journal artical, light
from screens confuses viewers body clocks. Which is ultimatley linked to disrupted
sleep patterns. By Applying time limits we can give our children sweet dreams, and a
better future.
Next, is how time limits will benifit the development of a child. Studies report that
television viewing by preschoolers lowers their executive functions and abilities to
complete a given task. There has also been a signifigant decrease in kids creativity
over the past fifty years. By setting time limits we can help kids get better grades
again. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spending time in front of a screen can fracture viewers attention and sap mental
energy. Screen time takes both a physical and mental toll on kids. And with all of
the media buzz, I wouldn t be surprised. By creating time limits we could stop
younger kids from becoming depressed.
All in all, children spend too many hours behind an electronic device, frying their
brains. However if we would be to impose time limits for our children, it would be
benificiary to their depression, developement, and
Carbon Fiber As A Chemical Compound
Carbon fibre is a chemical compound that is composed of a long chain of carbon
atoms bonded to each other using covalent bonds. The covalent bonds are formed
under extreme conditions of heat and pressure and may combine a carbon compound
with a piece of plastic or a polymer. The carbon occurs in very thin strands that have a
diameter smaller than that of a human hair though it is credited to having the five
times the tensile strengthof steel and two times its stiffness although it the carbon
compound has only two thirds the weight of steel. In modern times, carbon fibre is
commercially synthesised in industries as it has a wide variety of applications in
tasks requiring strength while at the same time minimising weight such as in
aeroplane body panels.
Fibre glass, on the other hand, is made up of melted glass that is blown, elongated
or extruded to for a string like material. Fibreglass has an advantage over carbon in
that the synthetic manufacture of fibreglass is easier as it does not require high
temperatures to be produced. The material, however, has nearly similar physical
properties to carbon regarding strength, weight and modulus of elasticity.
In this laboratory report, we will investigate the tensile properties of the above two
materials.
Introduction
The aim of the lab session was to study the properties of composite materials by
testing the materials in tension. The test composite materials to be tested comprised
of carbon and fibreglass and
Hollywood Blacklist Analysis
The Paramount decision and the Hollywood Blacklist were unrelated events that
significantly changed the motion picture business. One of these events, the
Paramount decision, feels ethical as it put an end to a bullying monopoly, but the
other event, the Hollywood Blacklist, organized out of fear and arguably not even
constitutional to the rights of citizens (free speech). Regardless, these
developments altered the direction of big studio production as well as the talent
and craft services. An important event relevant to both events is World War II.
America emerged as a world power house from World War II, and much of this
could be because it wasn t fought on our turf (except for Pearl Harbor). It s very
important to mention that the war ironically ended the great depression as factories
engendered an economy and everyone rallied around nationalism and jingoistic
pride. With this said, also, people wanted to move out of cities and find safer
spaces in suburban areas; the rise of suburbia (Lewis, p. 194). With people moving
out of cities (where the theatres were), there was nobody to watch the movies (very
unlikely that suburban towns had a theater). How does World War II correlate to the
Hollywood Blacklist? Easy, America s fear of Russian and other communist units
after the war. If the United States wasn t fearful of communism, then why form the
House Committee on Un American Activities (HUAC)? The entire idea of the
committee seems un American! Looking back, we have the
Expose Participants To Sleep Deprivation
I consider that the experiment is one you have in mind is interesting indeed. I also
consider that you have mentioned in detail the key variables; furthermore, the
formulation of your hypothesis is specific and can be measurable. In your study
you propose to expose participants to sleep deprivation for 30 days. This could be
an obstacle to be approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB). IRB are the
entities that review proposals for studies to determine if they comply with the
requirements of the code of ethics. Participants, who are not used to lack of sleep,
could have an accident while driving and/or at the workplace (if they operate
machinery or other equipment that require full attention). In the study s informed

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Described as a Sticking
Plaster
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy has been described as a В‘sticking plaster for the
problems that people may bring to counselling (Observer, 19/02/06). With
reference to the literature, critically evaluate the arguments for and against this
view. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a combination of two kinds of
therapy; cognitive therapy and behavioural therapy (Bush, 2005). It has been
shown to have a positive impact on a wide range of mood and anxiety disorders,
such as depression, insomnia and panic attacks as well as more recently psychosis
(schizophrenia). However, whether or not CBT actually solves the issue at hand or
simply covers it up, as a sticking plaster (Martin Helmore, 2006) has recently been a
topic of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gloaguen (1998) used meta analysis to compare the use of CBT and behavioural
therapy in treating patients with depression. The study was controlled for using
waiting list and placebo controls. CBT was found to be superior when compared
to the controls, and also when compared to behavioural therapy, although most of
the behavioural therapy trials analysed were uncontrolled. This aside, when
compared to control groups CBT does have an advantage over no treatment, which
is evidence of the concept that it is better than nothing for individuals suffering
from depression as it can improve their quality of life. A recent trial (DeRubeis et
al., 2005) found antidepressants (serotonin reuptake inhibitors) to be equally as
effective in the treatment of individuals with moderate to severe as CBT. Although
both treatments can be seen as equally effective, the use of CBT does not require
people to ingest drugs, so if both are equally as effective the CBT would be the
clear choice for individuals with depression. The evidence for the area of
depression and the usefulness of CBT is mixed, in spite of this, it s merits are
clearly obvious. Another area where CBT is used is in the treatment of individuals
with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). The use of CBT in this are has been
more successful with not only alleviating the symptoms of
Essay on The Growing Industry of Electronic Dance Music
Introduction
Electronic dance music (EDM) festivals around the world bring hundreds of
thousands of fans together for enormous multi day parties. New York Ranger (2014)
points out that DJs are the new rock stars .
While attendance at concerts and festivals for other music genres declined by 8.3%
in the past three years, EDM has only prospered (Lashbaugh, 2013).
Lashbaugh (2013) also notes that EDM festivals are twice as big in attendance than
all concerts and festivals in other music genres, combined.
EDM is a growing industry! Last year the festival scene generated 4 billion dollars.
For 2013 EDM scene has again grown and is now valued at 15 20 billion dollars US

Change Management in Healthcare
The Health Care Manager Volume 27, Number 1, pp. 23 39 Copyright # 2008
Wolters Kluwer Health | Lippincott Williams Wilkins Change Management in Health
Care Robert James Campbell, EdD This article introduces health care managers to the
theories and philosophies of John Kotter and William Bridges, 2 leaders in the
evolving field of change management. For Kotter, change has both an emotional and
situational component, and methods for managing each are expressed in his 8 step
model (developing urgency, building a guiding team, creating a vision,
communicating for buy in, enabling action, creating short term wins, don t let up,
and making it stick). Bridges deals with change at a more granular, individual level,
suggesting that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A second major idea centers on the mindset that a health care manager must adopt
before setting out on a change initiative. Kotter identifies the analysis thinkchange
mindset as the traditional method used by managers to initiate change. At this level,
the focus is on cognition and rational thought, by presenting individuals with
information in the form of reports, PowerPoint presentations, and Excel spreadsheets,
which form the basis of analysis. This leads individuals to change their thinking and,
ultimately, their behavior. For Kotter, this mindset rarely uncovers the big truths
1(p12) about why change is necessary. Employees do not need 200 page reports to
show them why paper patient documentation hinders physician decision making and
generates increased risk of medical errors. Moreover, analytical tools work best
when parameters are known, assumptions are minimal, and the future is not as fuzzy.
1(p12) Finally, according to Kotter, analysis rarely changes how people think, and it
does not send people running out the door to act in significantly new ways? 1(p13)
To drive home this point home, when employees are motivated, it is something that
they feel in their hearts and not in their heads that impel them into action. To instill a
feeling of action in employees hearts, Kotter recommends that a manager adopt a see
feel change approach. Using this
The Presentation of Bill Sikes in Oliver Twist Essay
Analyse the presentation of Bill Sikes in the novel Oliver Twist.
You should refer to aspects such as the author s viewpoint, language and the social
and historical contest.
I am going to write a detailed and accurate piece of writing in the form of an essay
to answer the statement above. I will do this by using quotes from the book, my own
theories on what the author is trying to portray Bill Sikes as and also my own
knowledge of the
Victorian era. I will be looking at specific areas, which I feel will help me write a
more concluding and correct account of the story

This then raises general awareness to everyday people that pickpockets are about and
that in this era poverty was a problem.
As the story was written in 1800 s the language spoken is very different from that
which is used now. Dickens uses slang
blowed upon ,
Blocks out swearing
d me ,
And abbreviates words
d ye hear me .
This is how people talked then, especially in the underworld of
London. When Sikes talks like this it makes him sound tougher as if he is speaking
in a very loud, angry voice.
Many adjectives are used to describe Sikes and his appearance stoutly built , growled
out ,
And
drab beeches
These perfectly allow us to visualise the character, which Dickens is trying to
portray, an aggressive man. Sikes is both verbally and physically very violent,
examples of both of these are,
lie down! This command was accompanied with a kick
This was he talking to his dog Bullseye.
Strong words and phrases are used by Sikes, which further more shows his authority
on others around him, he is portrayed as a bully.
I d have settled somebody ,
come in ,
D ye hear?
And
lie down!
Some of these examples are of Sikes being a bully towards his dog.
Other instances of Sikes being a bully are in the ways he treats other characters in the
story, particularly Nancy and Bullseye. Nancy is
The High Cost Of Samsung s Competition In The
Electronics...
After a little over a decade since its establishment, Samsung, who was once a small
business focusing on exporting perishables is now one of the biggest manufacturing
company in the world that revenue of over $167 Billion. From an economic
perspective, as technology changes becoming more efficient, it gives other companies
the ability to compete in manufacturing the products. As the electronics industry
continues to grow, more companies are competing with Apple. As of today, Samsung
is one of the largest competitors to Apple. Both companies are trying to win the
technology market, especially smartphones since they launched their own line of
smartphones Samsung Galaxy in June 2009 and the iPhonein June 2007.
One of the reasons Samsung s still in this game of tug of war with Apple is
Samsung s capability in manufacturing their own components for the Galaxy
smartphones. This gives them a rather strong grasp on cost advantage compared to
Apple. Even Apple uses a Samsung manufactured processors, NAND flash and
DRAM memory chips since the beginning (Forbes, 2016), which is why we see a
rather higher selling price for Apple s iPhone due to their cost to their supplier,
Samsung. One way for Apple to win over this is to attract Samsung loyal customers,
who are said to be more price conscious, by creating an inexpensive iPhone in a long
run like the iPhone 5c that was discontinued at the end of 2015.
However, even if Samsung had this cost advantage over Apple, Apple is still

Pros And Cons Of Ban Plastic Bags
Perhaps one of the most commonly questions in the past, is now rarely heard by
consumers. Four out of five grocery bags in the US are now plastic
(Reusablebags.com). However, the answer should not be merely plastic, the real
answer is neither. Plastic bags are very harmful for the environment, and paper
bags even more so. The best alternative is a reusable bag, which can save thousands
of plastic bags over its lifetime. Plastic bags are everywhere. We see them anywhere
from the town grocery market to the convenience store down the street. Admittedly,
plastic bags are very convenient. They are a cheap, hygienic way to transport one s
purchases. However, once they get home, there is not much use for the piece of
plastic. Sure, some reuse them... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the population would not be using plastic bags, they would be using paper.
As we can see, paper bags are even worse for the environment than the plastic ones.
Also, the ban on plastic bags will not cause people to start using reusable bags; it
may actually cause a shift of the production to other use and toss bags
(Reusablebags.com). The ban on the plastic bags had not worked out for places
nearly as well as the PlasTax. Ireland, for example, imposed the PlasTax, which is a
tax on plastic bags. However, there are some exemptions to the tax, which include
heavier weight reusable plastic bags; bags used for meat, fish, or poultry; bags for
unpackaged produce, ice, or other foods without packaging (Reusablebags.com).
The PlasTax worked so incredibly well, that plastic bag consumption was reduced
by a whopping 90 percent, and approximately one billion fewer plastic bags were
used. The amount of litter was dramatically reduced, and eighteen million liters of oil
were saved. Several other countries and cities around the world are now considering
implementing a similar tax, including UK, Australia and New York City
My Reflective Essay Writing
Before this semester, my essay writing would have been considered rather poor. This
was because I did not understand the various components of a properly written and
accompany them to effectively communicate my ideas. I lacked the most in keeping
the audience involved hence, catching and maintaining their attention, to my writing
from the introduction to the conclusion. To me, writing was more complicated
than a speech since a speech involved direct audience who the speaker can gauge
their feelings. I took writing as a difficult task since it involved indirect audience
and ensuring that I meet the demands of such indirect audience, brought more
confusion. Though the case, this past semester s class has really improved my
skills in writing. I have learned to to make an effective written piece. Through the
various learning experiences such as individual readings, professional feedback
and many others, I have been able to interact with diverse knowledge sources
which have made me much better by removing the confusion and negative picture I
had with regard to writing. The first area of my improvement is on the organization
skills which I have gained, enabling me to develop an excellent structure for my
essays. In my first essays, I was struggling to build an introduction that would not
only be clear to the readers but also cultivate their interest to read the rest of the
article. My introduction thus appeared ambiguous and was very general as from the
feedback I would regularly obtain from my Instructor. Through engaging in regular
essaywriting, this has really changed. This is evident in my cause and effect essay
where I was able to introduce the easy with a personal history of the perception of
the people with regard to the water they took At home, people subconsciously believe
that the water they drink, wash clothes with and bathe in is clean (Kulhahay 1, par. 1)
. I was able to place the audience to the issue I was addressing by giving their
general view on how they treat water contamination which was the subject of my
writing. In this easy I was able to introduce the readers to the controversy that had me
to write the paper i.e. both leaving the water untreated and treating it is a challenge as

The Irrigation Systems At Universities
At universities across America, and especially at a southern school such as Baylor,
water is used in vast amounts each year, leading to large utility bills as well as a high
carbon footprint. Therefore the irrigation systems at universities must be highly
efficient in order to not be wasteful. Unfortunately, at Baylor we have major irrigation
issues. The sprinklers overwater areas of the grass, leaving bog like areas that are
unsavory for anyone passing by, and many of the sprinklers rotate too far,
therefore watering large portions of the sidewalks, not only wasting water, but
also annoying teachers and students. If it was possible to reduce the amount of
water used by Baylor then it would not only be able to reduce its yearly utility bill
by a substantial amount, but also enables Baylor to be better stewards of the Earth
by saving water and reducing its carbon footprint. In order to save water Baylor
has to make efforts to fix the irrigation system. I propose a that Baylor hires the
landscaping crew to find areas on campus where the grass is being overwater,
reduce the amount of water going to those areas, and also fix the rotation on
sprinklers that require readjustment in order to keep the water on the grass. In
regards to the importance of an efficient Baylor irrigation system, Paul Clare, the
marketing manager of Facilities and Energy at Baylor had this to say:
In accordance with its Christian mission and vision, Baylor University strives to be a
community that

In this analysis of the history of Jazz the focus will be on the song Diminuendo and
Crescendo in Blue written in 1937 by Duke Ellington which was then subsequently
covered by a wide assortment of other artists till the inception of its currently well
known 2000s jazz iteration by the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra (Gridley 723).

constitutes good jazz music so at to better understand the different changes that

This created a far higher pitched rendition when compared to the original which
had a far lower initial pitch and utilized a low level of strumming coming from a
guitar in the beginning. On the other hand, it can be said that due to the more
upbeat style employed, in the reworked version of the song it did have a more
livelier feel compared to the original version. Another factor to consider is that
consistency in playing style was one of the most noticeable differences between the
original version of Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue and the version done by the
Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. Throughout the orchestra s version of Diminuendo
and Crescendo in Blue , the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra shifted playing styles
between loud and energetic to somewhat mellowed and plain, there was no build up
(unlike the original version) and they attempted to capitalize on the beat of the song
rather than on the quality of the playing being done. On the other hand, the version
done by Diminuendo And Crescendo In Blue Paul Gonsalves was consistent from
start to finish, this consistent level of sound combined with soulful way of playing
gave the song a far better and more harmonious feel as compared to the version done
by Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra.

The word sustainable is very popular recent years. Many countries are trying to
reduce the carbon emission. They tried controlling the smoke of the car. They tried
controlling the use of the electric and recycle everything they can use again.
However, the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of buildings is more than either the
transportation or industrial sectors. According to US Green Building Council s
research,In 2004, total emissions from residential and commercial buildings were
2236 million metric tons of CO2, or 39% of total US. Also, buildings consume
70% of the electricity load in the US.(USGBC) A building called Global Ecology
Center reduced 72% reduction in carbon emissions and 50% in embodied carbon
for building materials. Global Ecology Center is located in Stanford, and it was
chosen as an AIA Committee on the Environment Top Ten Green Project for 2007.
The capacity is 10,900 ft2. It completed in March 2004. Global Ecology Center

The Gap And Solution State Purpose
The introduction clearly shows the document frame that provides context. The gap
and solution state purpose that provides why we design this project. It also previews
the structure and content of the document.
In the background, there are four parts: client requirements, customer requirements,
safety requirements and engineering requirement. Client requires forward looking,
innovative and dynamic playground equipments. Customer requirements include
population numbers, ages range and parent and stakeholder values. Moreover,
background also provides safety requirements and engineering requirements.
In the proposed solutions, we offer three different solutions which include necessary
technology, materials, and implementation. These solutions also include the cost and
how they meet defined requirements. Furthermore, the pros and cons are analyzed.
There are a number of figures and tables to illustrate the features of equipments.
The analysis summarizes and analyzes features that offered by each of the proposed
solutions. It discusses and compares the benefits and obstacles. Also, it ranks
alternative solutions by comparing safety, environmental impact, cost effectiveness,
play appeal and customer satisfaction.
Conclusion and recommendations provide the equipment which is the best choice to
meet the community requirement. It also provides the concerns and relative solutions.

Doctor Donald Haut s A Body Bag At Fort Marcy Park
Normally there is an extreme amount of blood that is found at the scene in most
self inflicted gunshot suicides. Strangely, that afternoon in Fort Marcy Park there
was little blood that was found on or around the Vincent Foster s body. Even more
bizarre was Doctor Donald Haut s coroner report. Dr. Haut is the coroner for
Fairfax County, Virginia and the only medical doctor that evaluated Foster s body.
Dr. Haut was quoted in the Fiske report as saying that he observed a large pool of
blood around the body at the crime scene. Although Dr. Haut denies that he ever
made a statement or was interviewed by a member of Fiske s investigative team
(Balough, 2015). Cory Ashford was one of the Fairfax County Emergency Medical
Technicians that was on the scene that day. In fact, Ashford was one of the
individuals that put Vincent Foster s into a body bag at Fort Marcy Park. Cory
Ashford told investigators that he did not use gloves nor did he have to wash his
hands after putting Foster s body into the body bag (Balough, 2015). Mr. Ashford
was one of four medical technicians that were present at Fort Marcy Park that day
and saw Vince Fosters body. None of the four of them recall seeing a hole in the top
or in the back of Foster s skull but they do recall seeing a puncture wound on the
lower right side of Foster s neck. It was described as a hole approximately the size of
a .22 caliber entrance wound. This fact was omitted from all of the reports.

Whale Rider Essay
Unexpected Leadership The movie Whale Rider questions customs, culture, and
leadership. The story revolves around Koro, the chief of the Maori people. He
searches for a suitable new leader who has characteristics necessary to uphold a
culture. Someone strong. Someone dedicated to their culture. Someone who
perseveres through hardships. And, fundamentally, someone who is a boy.
Nobody succeeds in winning Koro s acceptance except Pikea, his granddaughter,
who fits almost all these characteristics. The only issue, though, is that she is a girl.
Still, I believe that though Pikea broke a few important rules, she is still the most
logical and appropriate heir to Koro s leadership because she holds her culture at a
high regard, she is strong and fearless, and she is persevering. Because of these
characteristics, she is the ideal leader that Koro has searched for.... Show more content

For instance, Pikea gave a speech at the Marae after winning a prize, saying ...We
can learn if knowledge is given to everyone, we can have lots of leaders and
everyone will be strong . She clearly cares a lot about her culture, since she is
giving advice to the people about how they can keep the culture alive during a time
where there is lots of assimilation and loss of culture. She cares deeply about the
Maori people, their customs, and their rules, and is willing to put her valuable
effort and time into protecting them. This is not the only time she demonstrated
her dedication. At one point, she sees a group of women smoking, and tells them
not to smoke, in order to preserve their childbearing properties . As a young girl
telling off seniors, Pikea s dedication and love for her culture is quite clear. This
scene shows that Pikea dedicates herself greatly to her culture s rules. She has high
regard for customs and rules of the Maori people, and this dedication makes her fit to

Hillary will cut taxes on hard working families to increase their take home pay as
they face rising costs. She will end wasteful tax subsidies for oil and gas
companies. Secretary of State will divert more people from criminal justice system
into drug courts, treatment, and recovery. She will make it easier for everyone to
vote and won t have to show photo identification to vote(ProCon.org.) Who I choose
and why ( Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton)
I think Donald Trump is going to win. I agree with more things that he says then
hillary but that doesn t mean I like him better I don t like either one. I think more
people are going to agree with donald trump on situations then hillary. From the
research that I have done for this paper it looks like donald will have a better
chance at be president. Also from the debate that I watched I figured more people
will be going with donald trump. Donald trump would be a better president because
hillary has more dangerous plans for the economy. I think she would be bad for our

Why Is Lord Of The Flies Important
The book Lord Of The Flies is a book about a group of young British schoolboys
who are stranded alone on an island without any adults. The main characters Ralph,
Piggy, Jack, Simon, and others are left to look after themselves, they must take on
the obligations of adults, even if they are not ready. Surely two groups form. One
group lead by Ralph who believes that building shelters and collecting food and be
rescued is more important, and the other group Jack s group would rather have fun
and hunt. According to William Golding, the author of the book, the theme of Lord
Of The Flies is an attempt to trace the defeat of society back to the defeat of human
nature. The book Lord Of The Flies has many important objects and locations on the
island.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pigs are important because when Jack successfully catches a pig the signal fire
goes out. Jack, his face smeared with clays, reached the top first and hailed Ralph
excitedly, with lifted spear. Look! We ve killed a pig we stole up on them we got
in a circle Voices broke in from the hunters. We got in a circle We crept up The pig
squealed The twins stood with the pig swinging between them, dropping black
gouts on the rock. They seemed to share one wide, ecstatic grin. Jack had too many
things to tell Ralph at once. Instead, he danced a step or two, then remembered his
dignity and stood still, grinning. He noticed blood on his hands and grimaced
distastefully, looked for something on which to clean them, then wiped them on his
shorts and laughed. Ralph spoke. You let the fire go out. Jack checked, vaguely
irritated by this irrelevance but too happy to let it worry him. We can light the fire
again. . That dialogue shows how the fire goes out and they lose their signal. In
Ralph s point of view he is mad that the fire went out, and in Jack s point of view he
is happy that he finally successfully caught a
Eng 225 Week 3 Final Film Critique Outline
The Elephant Man English 225 Introduction To Film 11/3/2012 I chose to critique
the film The Elephant Man it is an iconic filmmaking endeavor. Director David
Lynch shows the sadness and the scariness of deformities onto the audience in a
way that touches your heart and leaves you with a sense of sadness and will also
leave a tear in your eye. Most of the people who have watched this film are touched
and completely changes the way they view crippled, weak, and deformed people in
this world. The start of this film begins with Joseph Merrick s incredible story
being written into a play by Bernard Pomerance in 1979. This play is actually still
performed from time to time and a wonderful play to see. Lynch s film version was
released... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Merrick was found lying down in this manner when he was discovered the next
day. Because of the peaceful state of his body it is supposed that he chose his
death in this manner. Although the scene lacks evidence, Lynch stays true to at
least what is known and believed. Lynch also gives a final grace and dignity to the
character of John Merrick which allows the film to end in a way that is touchingly
appropriate. As Merrick s proprietor, Freddie Jones plays a ruthless menace and
desperate part of man his greedy and delights in the suffering and controlling of
those weaker than himself. Michael Elphick plays a horrible night porter who
orchestrates an excruciating scene of humiliation in Merrick s hospital room in
which Merrick is put on display naked before paying onlookers. Anne Bancroft as
Treves wife, provides the needed compassion as she shows Merrick kindness in the
face of a lifetime of women screaming at his physical ugliness. The supporting cast
deliver spot on performance that give validity and weight to the plot. Today, The
Elephant Man remains a highly acclaimed film and emotional masterpiece. Expertly
directed, written, and performed, with an old style cinematography and classical
music, the film can be seen as a return to the days of black white film. The emphasis
on character and acting skill was an original move by Lynch during a time when

  • 2. Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan Tampa Bay, Florida is ranked in the top 20s of one of the highest populated, metro population destinations in the United States (Tampa Bay Business Journal Staff Member, 2011). In fact, in the year 2011, there were more than 2,823,938 documented residents residing in the Tampa Bay area as well as 87.3 million tourists visiting Tampa Bay and its surrounding areas in the same year (Tampa Bay Business Journal Staff Member, 2011, State of Florida.com, n.d.). As a result, the city of Tamp Bay, Florida puts great stress on its Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, or better known as CEMP. To better elaborate, the city of Tampa Bay incorporates approximately 170 square miles, with land‐surface elevations ranging from sea‐level along the coast to approximately 55 feet above sea level (City of Tampa | Office of Emergency Management, n.d.). Indigenous People Research Paper Country: Costa Rica Committee: Human Rights Council Topic: Indigenous People School: Miami Lakes Middle School About 2.6% of the Costa Rican population consists of Indigenous People. The main issues affecting indigenous people are therefore encroachment on indigenous traditional lands, environmental degradation, unemployment and the lack of job opportunities on or near reservations. Indigenous people lack the right to maintain groups with their own unique cultures. Many wish to enjoy and pass on to their children their history, languages, traditions, modes of internal government, spiritual practices, and everything else that makes them who they are. During the time of 1973, the Costa Rican government established the National Commission for
  • 4. Relationship Between Age And Confidence Furthermore, the relationship between age and confidence in God s existence is positive. This is supported by the Pearson s R value of .107, which is above 0 making it positive, found in Table 2. However, because a value of 1 represents a perfectly positive linear line, the low R value suggests that our line is nearly horizontal and will have a small slope. In order to find how confident we are this relationship exists we can run a t test for R, which is included at the bottom of Table 1. The test shows there is confidence that the relationship is evident, because the p value is .01, so the null hypothesis can be rejected, that there is no relationship between the variables. Rather, there is confidence there is in fact a relationship between age and one s faith, which supports the hypothesis that the two variables are connected. Again this only shows the relationship is positive, but not how great of an affect age has on faith. The relationship that faith increases as age increase is more evident in a graph. Figure 2 compares age to the average amount of belief for its respective age group. The data has some variation from what was expected. For example, the average belief for 18 year olds is somewhere between Knows God Exists, But Has Doubts, and Knows God Exists, which is higher than the hypothesis, which predicted they would be much more skeptical. However, this could be because at this age kids are just now starting to break away from the influence their parents
  • 5. Ap Human Genetics Chapter 6 Analysis In chapter 6, we are introduced to Barbara McClintock, a scientist who would change how we viewed genetics as a whole. Similar to other some other female scientist, she was largely ignored for her ideas but we came to realize the importance of her research. McClintock focuses a lot of her research on corn and its genetic material and evolutionary history. By studying corn she found that certain areas of the corn would have different colors. For example, while most of the corn would be yellow, there could be purple sections within the same corn. Upon further research, she proved the hypothesis that sections of corn DNAwere actually jumping or moving from one section of the genome to another. These genes that could jump and move into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was also shown that the area where the genes moved into were not random but, in fact, had a particular method of where and when genes would transpose. To modern genetics, these ideas supported the idea that an organism s genome could actually spur mutations if it could increase the survival of the organism. These ideas also change how we view genomics because now areas where there are noncoding regions could in fact have been areas where these transposons could have existed but have since lost function. Therefore, we can study these regions to find evidence that they may have previously been transposons. They may have lost their function due to the increase stability of our environment or some other reason. Interestingly, her work has some larger complications on evolution as a whole. In fact, her ideas suggest that evolution may not have needed generations upon generations to produce a result, but with transposons, could occur much faster than thought possible. This is because not just one codon is being mutated but entire sections are being moved around. However, it is important to note that the transposons are not imparting advantages with every occurrence but rather are increasing the variation
  • 6. An Essay on Jamba Juice Introduction Our product is Jamba Juice and our target country is Spain. We chose this product because it has grown to become one of the nation s best known smoothie chains, emphasizing the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and because the company is looking for international expansion opportunities. We chose Spain as our target country for expansion of our product due to its current economic status and economic growth forecasts for the future. As of 2006 there were over 3 million small and medium sized businesses in Spain, representing over 99% of all businesses in the country. The Spanish government provides various grants and incentives for the creation and expansion of small businesses in Spain as well as support and services to business owners. Recent government campaigns and initiatives have focused on support for entrepreneurs, primarily in response to Spain s economic goals for the future. Increasing competitiveness and promoting innovation were identified as key strategies to maintain, grow and keep Spain s economy dynamic (Dreamer, 2008). The key factors such as strong economy, large population base, expansive tourist trade and active government involvement provide a strong argument for migration into Spain s marketplace. Reasons for Expansion Jamba has become a way of life for millions of Americans and the company believes that they can extend that opportunity to Spain and other international marketplaces. • 7. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Industrialised Building... Introduction Through globalization, technology has increased rapidly in not only in Malaysia but also other country. In Malaysia, Industrialised Building System (IBS) is one of the technologies that has implemented by government. It has started since 1960 s. But however it becomes more popular in 1998 when government recommends a Strategic Plan as the blueprint for whole construction sector. IBS system has been promoting by CIDB. To increase the use of IBS, CIDB has taken the step of formulating IBS Roadmap. The main reason for implementing IBS system in Malaysia is to increase the productivity, waste of construction material, time and reduce the use foreign labors. However, implementation of IBS has not found popular from local construction industry. There is very low profile of construction sector using IBS as their main building construction. Besides, industrialized building system (IBS) can be defined where all slab, wall, beam, column, and staircase are mass produced either in factory or at site factory with strict quality control according to Warswaski (1999). It can be defined by industrialized process which every building components are planning, prefabricated, conceived, transported and erected on site. (Thanoon W. A. M., Peng, L, 2003). Hence, in simple form of definition of IBS is a construction system that built using prefabricated components based on Rahman and Omar (2006). This IBS system can be made using machine, formworks and other machinery
  • 8. The Life Of Britney Spears I ve been watching, along with the rest of the world, a very sad unraveling of a human life. The recent events in the life of Britney Spears may not be anything new in the world of celebrity, but it certainly has been one of the most put on public display breakdowns in recent entertainment history. I was talking to my children last night about how truly sad the whole situation is, and how more people need to comprehend that even if they were never a fan of Britney or her music, they still need to realize that this is a person who is struggling and definitely in need of help. I have read countless statements by people who have gone as far as to say that she should just give up and die already.....I m tired of hearing about it. That is one of the more appalling statements I ve seen. I will go on record as saying I have not ever been a fan of her music, or thought she has made the best choices in her personal life perhaps (at least in how these things were portrayed in public), but in no way would I wish what she is going through on any human being. As someone who interviews musicians all the time, and now 1 celeb as well, it is more than ever clear to me that they are regular people like the rest of us. Would we expect to be treated that way if we were struggling? Does being in the public eye mean they put themselves out there for public ridicule and should just deal with it? I can only say that if she were my sister or daughter I would be in tears every day to see her
  • 9. Analysis Of The Book Leningrad Leningrad: The message meant to change society s views Billy Joel is an American singer and songwriter who toured Russia in the later days of the Cold War in the mid 1980 s. Billy Joel was the first American to tour any communist country since the Berlin Wall was built in 1961 and the raising of the Iron Curtain. Billy Joel, through the use of this Russian tour, was able to witness the Russian life first hand. During this tour he began to realize that not everything he had been taught about the Russians and the life they lived was entirely true. During the tour Joel became friends with a Man named Viktor who attended all of the performances during this tour. Billy Joel s management learned about Viktor and set up a way for the pair to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Billy Joel also makes it clear that we can not judge a group of people strictly on their leader s actions because they do not necessarily represent the popular opinion that their nation s people have. The song Leningrad is of interest to me because I am a musician myself and I play the piano as does Billy Joel. Music has always played a substantial role in my life so I decided to use a music as the artifact of this assignment. To me, it is interesting to find out how a popular song can change and affect the opinions and thinking of its listeners through the use of a mass media outlet. The average person does not typically take an analytical approach to a song to figure out the message behind it. It is also interesting that a listener can still be persuaded by a song s message whether the listener knows it is happening or not. The use of song as a way to shed light on social situations has been around for many years and frequently these songs usually focus on issues on a more minor scale. Leningrad does the exact opposite by not only being used for entertainment but also by using a war that most people had grown up through and showing how we can help resolve these issues that caused the war. Approaching the song Leningrad from a theoretical understanding is useful in that it shows how Billy Joel uses his words and experiences with the Russian people to persuade and change the opinions that the American people have towards the Russian s system of
  • 10. How Offspring Education Level Improve Parents Longevity 3. WAYS OFFSPRING EDUCATION LEVEL IMPROVE PARENTS LONGEVITY 3.1 Children level of education Friedman and Mare (Friedman and Mare 2014) explained the association between how far a child goes in school and how long their parents live. They found that parents of college graduates lived about two years longer on average than those whose children didn t graduate from high school. Education of family members is an important factor linked to the longevity of older adults in this case to their parents. According to the chart, offspring and parents obtain similar levels of schooling. Resulting that parents can impact their offspring educational outcomes. Offspring may indirectly affect their parents health because parents might or might not be suffering from a health problem. In this scenario all that the offspring can do is provide their parents with the best possible care available. Offspring cannot influence the genes of the parents, but they can provide early treatment of their health problems. Treating a health problem at its early stages can help a person obtain more years in life. Highly educated offspring may also indirectly influence their parents to engage in healthier behaviors. As Morin (Morin 2014) raise the question of why do the parents of better educated kids live longer? One reason explained that better educated children influence their parents to adopt healthier lifestyles that will add years to their parents lives. The United States is highlighted by the rapid, increasing of the older population. According to the video Living Old, those who are aged 85 and older are the fastest growing segment of the U.S. population (Chapter 1). In the 30 years after the video was made it was predicted that the number of people aged 65 and older will double, making up twenty percent of the U.S. population (Living Old Chapter 1). According to the video, the population is changing in this way because medical advances have made doctors improved at treating illnesses that in the past have killed younger people (Living Old Chapter 1). This is causing older adults to require more ongoing

Jackson CJA/585 June 7, 2010 Professor Brian Kissinger Abstract Physical safety inside and out depends on the type of physical security that is being used by that facility. How well the buildings security system is being implemented can have an impact on the safety of its patrons and other individuals who frequent the building. Physical Security Principles Safety in numbers has always been a deterrent method when leaving or traveling through places that are not safe. But without proper physical security measures set in place when leaving any facility or building the need for a crowd will be of no use. Proper physical security requires accessing the risk that may cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Technology Advancement Physical security for any facility is a major factor for keeping safe and having modern technology on site is a greater addition. Protecting the facilities assets requires the company to stay ahead with modern day upgrades and devices for ensuring that whatever or whomever is gaining access to the property is suppose to be there. Monitoring the individuals who enter through facility access control and perimeter fences or installing video and closed circuit television surveillance can eliminate trespassers and those with no prior business on the property. Personal identification systems can also be established that use fingerprints and biometrics to gain access into any facility for staff and personnel. The amount of technology to use for physical security is unlimited depending on the facility and what needs protecting. Conclusion Physical security involves many components such as location, configuration, size, shape, and many other vital attributes that comes with a standing structure. Keeping people safe on the inside as well as those on the outside requires security principles that go beyond what just the normal eye can see. Applying the correct physical equipment to lower the risk of unwanted behaviors and attacks depends on how well the perimeter is guarded. Advanced technology including cameras and monitoring systems add to the insurance of physical security and if used

With snow on the ground, ice on the windshield, and below freezing temperatures to battle with throughout the day, most people just want to get getaway from it all and for good reasons too. If you haven t felt it yet, it might important to note that: the winter blues typically sets in right after the holidays, when it s time to take down your Christmas decoration, get back to work, take care of kids, and prepare yourself for the upcoming year. That s because the vast majority of people find that winter is an extremely difficult time of year to gather the strength to feel joy and excitement about practically anything. Fortunately, a visit to any of your favorite warmer climate destinations will have you forgetting about the slush, ice, snow boots, and dark season in no time. So, if you find that you re unmotivated, checked out, and heavy hearted, try to fight these feelings by taking steps towards the light even in the darkest part of winter. That, of course, is easier said than done for some people. If you and your family are in need of a winter vacation but if cost is a major factor, consider one of these affordable and super fun destinations where your money will go a lot farther. Initial method: My initial method was as follows: Preparation: First I made sure that I had prepared the equipment required and has checked to see if they were all working and reliable, making sure not to have forgotten anything. Then I made sure to fully protected my eyes and face by then putting some safety goggles on. The next bit of preparation was to mark the cross on the piece of paper, I did this with a biro which was the thinest pen I could find, this meant that the cross i drew was as accurate as possible. I then boiled a kettle it make boiling water which i was going to put in the conical flask later on. After that I started to make the concentration of the sodium thiosulfate by mixing it with the correct volume of water in the measuring cylinder The actual test: All I had to do now was to add the concentration of sodium thiosulfate to the hydrochloric acid At the exact same time as the above step happens I start the stopwatch. Victimized: Aggressive behavior is a major factor in short and long term physical and mental health, education, and long term adult relationships, and work opportunities. Repetitive aggressive and victimization increases the risk of reduced self esteem, anxiety, depression and social isolation and poor physical health including substance abuse and suicide. Bystanders become desensitized to anti social behaviors, or becoming bullies themselves. Many bystanders make excuses for the behavior to stay on the favored side (Coloroso, 2011 pg38). Bulling often incurs no immediate consequence therefore celebrated by those who indulge in the behavior, actively or passively, whilst the bullied hide in the shadows. Perpetrator: The Perpetrator will display internalized symptoms. Perpetrators of aggressive behavior become desensitized to aggression through having their behavior validated by friends and bystanders (J.F. Sigurdson and co authors 2016). This makes the bully feel superior to others loosing empathy for others considered beneath them. Perpetrators of aggressive behavior lack social skills of negotiation, fair play, or compromise leading to the belief that aggression is the only way to get the desired result. This inability to create equable settings amongst peers forms social isolation and depression. The perpetrator internalizes these traits so as not to appear weak to maintain the façade of strength and

After the introduction of tea plantation in Dooars, the planters encouraged the immigration of the Nepalese, and then the tea planters decided to bring labourers from the Santal Parganas and Chhotonagpur plateau. • 20. The Dichotomy Over Civilian Gun Control Junie Kim AP Capstone Seminar Lewandowski 30 November 2015 Individual Research Report For decades, the United States has been split by a dichotomy over civilian gun control. Gun control is the term used to describe how firearms may be legally produced, sold, and used, (Gale). As stated in the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed, (Gottesman/Brown). However, research seems to indicate that owning a gun or even just seeing one [can] change how people behave, (Striepe). Studies have shown that weapons negatively affect the individual s psychological processes. Actions of aggression or agitation have been shown to increase during experimental situations in which guns are in view of the subject. The purpose of this project was to determine the extent of how ownership of guns and other weapons could create conflict, and to propose a solution to minimize these consequences. By studying how weapons can affect humans intrinsically and psychologically by slowly changing behaviors and beliefs over time, insight can be gained on the true dangers of gun ownership. This scientific approach also provided a look at the deeper consequences of civilian weapon control, allowing for further refinement in the creation of a solution to reverse the effects of gun control in the future. In 1967, Leonard Berkowitz and Anthony LePage

Geographically, Panama lies on an isthmus, a strip of land that essentially connects the greater landmasses of North and South America. It is believed that volcanic activity in the late Pliocene era closed the former Central American Seaway that had separated the two continents. The climatic implications of this landform are incredible, allowing for the redistribution of oceanic currents and the formation of the Gulf Stream of the Atlantic of today. However, this union too would collapse in 1840, when separatist Panamanian forces led by a group of rebels called the Sociedad de Amigos del PaГs began to resist the governance of BogotГЎ. Panama is geographically placed at extreme economic advantage due to its close and centralized proximity to North and South America and easy accessibility by sea, yet the Columbian Republic kept this advantage at bay for political purposes, creating a situation in which Panama was essentially left at an economic standstill. This tactic created a situation which made Panama s economic advancement nearly impossible. This coupled with requests for large sums of money from the Panamanian treasury to fund the war in Pasto, despite unquestionably trying times, led to the revolutionary upheaval. In October of 1840, the new Governor Carlos de Icaza refused to comply to yet another request from BogotГЎ for more funds from Panama on the grounds that the Panamanian treasury was empty. Four weeks after this announcement, on November 18, 1840, Panama declared its independence (MГ©ndez). In 1903, the United states under President Theodore Roosevelt signed a treaty with Panama which gave over the rights to build and control the passage through what we now know as the famous Panama Canal, with the purpose of creating a politically, economically and geographically significant waterway that would allow for the travel of ships from the

God had mercy on Judah for a long time, while they turned to Him for help and listened to Him. But after King Manasseh s reign of rampant idolatry, in which he murdered innocent people and led Judah to follow false gods, God said that he would judge them by giving them up to their enemies. 2) How did the Babylonians differ in the treatment of prisoners than the Assyrians? Whenever they conquered a country, the Assyrians would kill all the able bodied men there and move the survivors to a different land within the Assyrian Empire. Then they would repopulate the conquered country with people from another one. In contrast, the

Between 2011 and 2013, children ages 8 and younger more than doubled their usage of technology with screens. There are multiple ways that setting time limits for children on thier devices can benifit their overall sleep, development, and depression. • 24. Carbon Fiber As A Chemical Compound Carbon fibre is a chemical compound that is composed of a long chain of carbon atoms bonded to each other using covalent bonds. The covalent bonds are formed under extreme conditions of heat and pressure and may combine a carbon compound with a piece of plastic or a polymer. The carbon occurs in very thin strands that have a diameter smaller than that of a human hair though it is credited to having the five times the tensile strengthof steel and two times its stiffness although it the carbon compound has only two thirds the weight of steel. In modern times, carbon fibre is commercially synthesised in industries as it has a wide variety of applications in tasks requiring strength while at the same time minimising weight such as in aeroplane body panels. Fibre glass, on the other hand, is made up of melted glass that is blown, elongated or extruded to for a string like material. Fibreglass has an advantage over carbon in that the synthetic manufacture of fibreglass is easier as it does not require high temperatures to be produced. The material, however, has nearly similar physical properties to carbon regarding strength, weight and modulus of elasticity. In this laboratory report, we will investigate the tensile properties of the above two materials. Introduction The aim of the lab session was to study the properties of composite materials by testing the materials in tension. One of these events, the Paramount decision, feels ethical as it put an end to a bullying monopoly, but the other event, the Hollywood Blacklist, organized out of fear and arguably not even constitutional to the rights of citizens (free speech). Regardless, these developments altered the direction of big studio production as well as the talent and craft services. An important event relevant to both events is World War II. America emerged as a world power house from World War II, and much of this could be because it wasn t fought on our turf (except for Pearl Harbor). It s very important to mention that the war ironically ended the great depression as factories engendered an economy and everyone rallied around nationalism and jingoistic pride. With this said, also, people wanted to move out of cities and find safer spaces in suburban areas; the rise of suburbia (Lewis, p. 194). With people moving out of cities (where the theatres were), there was nobody to watch the movies (very unlikely that suburban towns had a theater). How does World War II correlate to the Hollywood Blacklist? Easy, America s fear of Russian and other communist units after the war. If the United States wasn t fearful of communism, then why form the House Committee on Un American Activities (HUAC)? The entire idea of the committee seems un American! Looking back, we have the

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a combination of two kinds of therapy; cognitive therapy and behavioural therapy (Bush, 2005). It has been shown to have a positive impact on a wide range of mood and anxiety disorders, such as depression, insomnia and panic attacks as well as more recently psychosis (schizophrenia). The study was controlled for using waiting list and placebo controls. This aside, when compared to control groups CBT does have an advantage over no treatment, which is evidence of the concept that it is better than nothing for individuals suffering from depression as it can improve their quality of life. A recent trial (DeRubeis et al., 2005) found antidepressants (serotonin reuptake inhibitors) to be equally as effective in the treatment of individuals with moderate to severe as CBT. Although both treatments can be seen as equally effective, the use of CBT does not require people to ingest drugs, so if both are equally as effective the CBT would be the clear choice for individuals with depression. The evidence for the area of depression and the usefulness of CBT is mixed, in spite of this, it s merits are clearly obvious. Another area where CBT is used is in the treatment of individuals with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). The use of CBT in this are has been more successful with not only alleviating the symptoms of

A second major idea centers on the mindset that a health care manager must adopt before setting out on a change initiative. Kotter identifies the analysis thinkchange mindset as the traditional method used by managers to initiate change. At this level, the focus is on cognition and rational thought, by presenting individuals with information in the form of reports, PowerPoint presentations, and Excel spreadsheets, which form the basis of analysis. This leads individuals to change their thinking and, ultimately, their behavior. For Kotter, this mindset rarely uncovers the big truths 1(p12) about why change is necessary. Employees do not need 200 page reports to show them why paper patient documentation hinders physician decision making and generates increased risk of medical errors. Moreover, analytical tools work best when parameters are known, assumptions are minimal, and the future is not as fuzzy. 1(p12) Finally, according to Kotter, analysis rarely changes how people think, and it does not send people running out the door to act in significantly new ways? 1(p13) To drive home this point home, when employees are motivated, it is something that they feel in their hearts and not in their heads that impel them into action. To instill a feeling of action in employees hearts, Kotter recommends that a manager adopt a see feel change approach. Using this

The Irrigation Systems At Universities At universities across America, and especially at a southern school such as Baylor, water is used in vast amounts each year, leading to large utility bills as well as a high carbon footprint. Therefore the irrigation systems at universities must be highly efficient in order to not be wasteful. Unfortunately, at Baylor we have major irrigation issues. The sprinklers overwater areas of the grass, leaving bog like areas that are unsavory for anyone passing by, and many of the sprinklers rotate too far, therefore watering large portions of the sidewalks, not only wasting water, but also annoying teachers and students. If it was possible to reduce the amount of water used by Baylor then it would not only be able to reduce its yearly utility bill by a substantial amount, but also enables Baylor to be better stewards of the Earth by saving water and reducing its carbon footprint. In order to save water Baylor has to make efforts to fix the irrigation system. I propose a that Baylor hires the landscaping crew to find areas on campus where the grass is being overwater, reduce the amount of water going to those areas, and also fix the rotation on sprinklers that require readjustment in order to keep the water on the grass. • 44. Doctor Donald Haut s A Body Bag At Fort Marcy Park Normally there is an extreme amount of blood that is found at the scene in most self inflicted gunshot suicides. Strangely, that afternoon in Fort Marcy Park there was little blood that was found on or around the Vincent Foster s body. Even more bizarre was Doctor Donald Haut s coroner report. Dr. Haut is the coroner for Fairfax County, Virginia and the only medical doctor that evaluated Foster s body. Dr. Haut was quoted in the Fiske report as saying that he observed a large pool of blood around the body at the crime scene. Although Dr. Haut denies that he ever made a statement or was interviewed by a member of Fiske s investigative team (Balough, 2015). Cory Ashford was one of the Fairfax County Emergency Medical Technicians that was on the scene that day. In fact, Ashford was one of the individuals that put Vincent Foster s into a body bag at Fort Marcy Park. Cory Ashford told investigators that he did not use gloves nor did he have to wash his hands after putting Foster s body into the body bag (Balough, 2015). Mr. Ashford was one of four medical technicians that were present at Fort Marcy Park that day and saw Vince Fosters body. None of the four of them recall seeing a hole in the top or in the back of Foster s skull but they do recall seeing a puncture wound on the lower right side of Foster s neck. It was described as a hole approximately the size of a .22 caliber entrance wound. This fact was omitted from all of the reports. (Rodriguez, 1995). The

Para Sa Hopeless Romantic Essay Romance novelist Marcelo Santos III has become one of the most prominent writers of this generation s Philippine popular fiction alongside Bob Ong, Ramon Bautista, and Denny R. The novels Para sa Hopeless Romantic and Para sa Broken Hearted by Santos topped best seller lists of various bookstores and even the best seller list under the gold category of their publisher Viva PSICOM. Later this year, a movie adaptation of Para sa Hopeless Romantic will be released nationwide. He is also active on Wattpad, Twitter, and Facebook, where he posts quotes about love and inspiration. But Santos was in the spotlight of social media long before he became a famous novelist. He wrote the YouTube series Love Story on Video, where words are shown over a blank video accompanied by background music, posted them online, and garnered hundreds of thousands of views,... The blurb itself states that the novel is para sa mga taong iniwan at ipinagpalit, para sa mga taong naging panakip butas, para sa mga nangangarap na mahalin . . . at para sa mga Hopeless Romantic (translation: for people who were left and replaced, for those who were used as substitutes, for those who wish to be loved . . . and for those who are hopeless romantics ) (Santos, Para sa Hopeless Romantic). Thus, the prevalence of romance and idealism in this generation s Philippine literature has been tackled by local fictionists and has led to various discussions and even to the use of the hashtag #saveliterature when talking about works by Santos and other related writers. As said by Ronaldo S. Vivo Jr., fictionist and anthologist from the transgressive group Ungaz Press, what is sad is the readers fall victim to publishers who do not care about how their products affect their readers. Readers are taught not to analyze problems and just believe in the promises of forever (qtd. in
  • 46. Whale Rider Essay Unexpected Leadership The movie Whale Rider questions customs, culture, and leadership. The story revolves around Koro, the chief of the Maori people. He searches for a suitable new leader who has characteristics necessary to uphold a culture. Someone strong. Someone dedicated to their culture. Someone who perseveres through hardships. And, fundamentally, someone who is a boy. Nobody succeeds in winning Koro s acceptance except Pikea, his granddaughter, who fits almost all these characteristics. The only issue, though, is that she is a girl. Still, I believe that though Pikea broke a few important rules, she is still the most logical and appropriate heir to Koro s leadership because she holds her culture at a high regard, she is strong and fearless, and she is persevering. Because of these characteristics, she is the ideal leader that Koro has searched for.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, Pikea gave a speech at the Marae after winning a prize, saying ...We can learn if knowledge is given to everyone, we can have lots of leaders and everyone will be strong . She clearly cares a lot about her culture, since she is giving advice to the people about how they can keep the culture alive during a time where there is lots of assimilation and loss of culture. She cares deeply about the Maori people, their customs, and their rules, and is willing to put her valuable effort and time into protecting them. This is not the only time she demonstrated her dedication. At one point, she sees a group of women smoking, and tells them not to smoke, in order to preserve their childbearing properties . As a young girl telling off seniors, Pikea s dedication and love for her culture is quite clear. This scene shows that Pikea dedicates herself greatly to her culture s rules. She has high regard for customs and rules of the Maori people, and this dedication makes her fit to be

Why Is Lord Of The Flies Important The book Lord Of The Flies is a book about a group of young British schoolboys who are stranded alone on an island without any adults. The main characters Ralph, Piggy, Jack, Simon, and others are left to look after themselves, they must take on the obligations of adults, even if they are not ready. Surely two groups form. One group lead by Ralph who believes that building shelters and collecting food and be rescued is more important, and the other group Jack s group would rather have fun and hunt. We got in a circle We crept up The pig squealed The twins stood with the pig swinging between them, dropping black gouts on the rock. They seemed to share one wide, ecstatic grin. Jack had too many things to tell Ralph at once. Instead, he danced a step or two, then remembered his dignity and stood still, grinning. He noticed blood on his hands and grimaced distastefully, looked for something on which to clean them, then wiped them on his shorts and laughed. Ralph spoke. You let the fire go out. Jack checked, vaguely irritated by this irrelevance but too happy to let it worry him. We can light the fire again. . That dialogue shows how the fire goes out and they lose their signal. In Ralph s point of view he is mad that the fire went out, and in Jack s point of view he is happy that he finally successfully caught a
  • 51. Eng 225 Week 3 Final Film Critique Outline The Elephant Man English 225 Introduction To Film 11/3/2012 I chose to critique the film The Elephant Man it is an iconic filmmaking endeavor. Director David Lynch shows the sadness and the scariness of deformities onto the audience in a way that touches your heart and leaves you with a sense of sadness and will also leave a tear in your eye. Most of the people who have watched this film are touched and completely changes the way they view crippled, weak, and deformed people in this world. The start of this film begins with Joseph Merrick s incredible story being written into a play by Bernard Pomerance in 1979. This play is actually still performed from time to time and a wonderful play to see. Lynch s film version was released... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Merrick was found lying down in this manner when he was discovered the next day. Because of the peaceful state of his body it is supposed that he chose his death in this manner. Although the scene lacks evidence, Lynch stays true to at least what is known and believed. Lynch also gives a final grace and dignity to the character of John Merrick which allows the film to end in a way that is touchingly appropriate. As Merrick s proprietor, Freddie Jones plays a ruthless menace and desperate part of man his greedy and delights in the suffering and controlling of those weaker than himself. Michael Elphick plays a horrible night porter who orchestrates an excruciating scene of humiliation in Merrick s hospital room in which Merrick is put on display naked before paying onlookers. Anne Bancroft as Treves wife, provides the needed compassion as she shows Merrick kindness in the face of a lifetime of women screaming at his physical ugliness. The supporting cast deliver spot on performance that give validity and weight to the plot. Today, The Elephant Man remains a highly acclaimed film and emotional masterpiece. Expertly directed, written, and performed, with an old style cinematography and classical music, the film can be seen as a return to the days of black white film. The emphasis on character and acting skill was an original move by Lynch during a time when special
