Rawls Vs Norzick s Theory Essay
1.What are some important common ground, () both theorists utilize in constructing and ultimately
defending their theories?
Some important common ground both theorists utilize in constructing and defending their theories
are that both talked about justice, liberty, and equality. Both Rawls and Norzick believe that justice,
liberty, and equality would make a better society. Both talked strongly about a just society.
Rawls and Norzick tried to figure out how to create a more just society. They also believed in
moral side constraint. Lastly, they both touched on property rights.
2.By Characterizing his original position as the appropriate initial status quo what moral
sensibilities does Rawl appeal to in order to advance his theory? Please ... Show more content on

His second constraint states that they must be chosen behind a veil of ignorance. By placing the
parties behind a veil of ignorance, Rawls believes that the choice situation will nullify the effects of
specific contingencies that put men at odds. He also thinks it will tempt them to exploit social and
natural circumstances to their own advantage.
3.Norzick s entitlement theory of justice place the appeal (main argument) of the theory by looking
at two different beliefs/ behaviors in society to determine what is just. What are these two different
beliefs/behaviors? Please explain each. How do they apply to the concept of the minimal state
The entitlement theory of justice tells us that whatever arises from a just situation by just steps is
itself just. Norzick s two beliefs are absolute property ownership rights. His other belief is
redistribution rights.
Norzicks belief of property ownership rights is the right of ownership over oneself and over
things in the world. For example, in a class discussion, we talked about how if someone wanted to
give their eye to someone who needs it, they have the right to do so because they absolute property
ownership of their

The Church Of The Holy Cross Lutheran Church
On Saturday 7, 2015, Alex, Michael and I drove to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church located in
11515 Ashcake Road Ashland, Virginia (about a 5 minute drive away from campus). The first
thing that caught my attention was the external structure of the church. The architecture of the
church is old school and it looks like a wooden house. Inside the church we could immediately
tell that there were at least two floors. The top floor was where the altar was located and where
the congregation took place. As soon as we stepped into the top floor, a really nice lady
approached us and told us to sign a book of guests that everyone that attends the service had to
sign. After we signed in, the pastor approached us and we told him that we were attending the
service for a research project and that we were students from Randolph Macon College, he
seemed thrilled to be able to help us. The service itself was much laid back and relatively small.
There were 25 people at the church on that Saturday, and they were all very friendly. The pastor
was very enthusiastic and welcoming to us. At the beginning of the service, he introduced us to
everyone in the church and he encouraged us to research as much as we wanted to. In my
opinion, this service was very similar to a catholic worship, or similar to the service that I used to
attend when I lived in Venezuela. There was a lot of sitting, reading, standing, and singing. As we
learned in class and in Williams s Religion in America, music is a very

Delta Air Travel
Air travel has become a common part of everyday life. However, one of the common complaints
with air travel is the prices of the tickets. It turns out that people are not the only ones who have
trouble finding the lowest ticket price, computers have a hard time as well. This paper aims to look
at the computational complexity of air travel planning, and find the lowest priced ticket between
two destinations using popular search algorithms. As explained in the introduction, it is not feasible
to attempt to run all the flights across the world through the search algorithms. Instead, flights from
one airline, Delta, were selected. This includes code share flights. The flight database that was used
is from www.openflights.org and the data is current... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In doing the research for this project, no such database was able to be found, however.
The final element of this experiment which could use more investigation and changes is the
algorithms used. While the two selected worked for the most part
(excluding the one route A* could not compute), they are likely not the best choice for this type of
search. Finding more robust versions of UCS and A* and including some other algorithms could
have provided more conclusive results as well as giving more interesting data.
The goal of this project was to take a public database of airline flights, select a number of flights,
and run those flights through a couple of the search algorithms studied in class (uniform cost search
and A* search). The algorithms provided some interesting results when run on the ten randomly
selected routes. In almost all of the cases the algorithms were able to find the cheapest path
between the departure and arrival airports, although A* chose a more expensive route once and
could not find one other route. When these findings were compared with
Google s flight search, some of the results were surprising. Almost all of the real world flights cost
more or less than what the two algorithms found,

Hallucinogen Research Paper
Hallucinogen is a title commonly given to drugs that are mind altering. This category of drug
includes those which cause a variety of side effects, most commonly temporary distortions to one
s view of reality. Hallucinogens are commonly used for recreation, along with in some cultures as
religious practices ( What Is A Hallucinogen? ). The most common hallucinogens are LSD,
Psilocybin, Peyote, and DMT. All five of these are plant based substances ( Hallucinogens ). They
also each fall under the classification of an alkaloid. Alkaloids are commonly found in plants, and
have not been proven to serve any specific purpose among plants. Alkaloids can vary in structure,
but always have a nitrogen atom as part of a structure similar to that... Show more content on

I personally believe that use of hallucinogens has already become fairly socially acceptable. I feel
that my generation is very open minded and is less likely to condemn others for controversial
choices than older generations. I feel that it should be socially acceptable, because everyone
makes their own choices. If someone is choosing to use hallucinogens on their own time for
recreation, and they are not hurting anyone else in the process, there is no reason they should be
shamed for that choice. They understand the consequences of their own actions, and can therefore
be mature about it and deal with said consequences. At the same time, those who use
hallucinogens as a religious rite, such as some southwestern native american tribes do, should not
be frowned upon. Christians consume wine in church as part of the eucharist. Nobody tells them
that because alcohol is harmful to the human body, they should not do it. Therefore, there is no
reason for anyone else to condemn religious groups for using hallucinogens. Everyone has the
capability to make their own choices, whether for recreation or for religious reasons. If no one is
forcing a sheet of blotter paper onto one s tongue or putting peyote in someone else s tea, I see no
problem with use of hallucinogens from a social

Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia Research Paper
Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, is also known as the Osler Weber Rendu Syndrome,
Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia effects approximately 1 in 5,000 people. It effects males
and females from all racial ethnic groups. Dr. Rendu first described Hereditary hemorrhagic
telangiectasia as a hereditary disorder involving nosebleeds and characteristic red spots that was
distinctly different from hemophilia. HHT is a hereditary disorder that is passed down through
generations, Its characterized by abnormal bloodvessels. Blood vessels are the tubes that carry
blood around our bodies. There are two types of blood vessels; arteries and veins. Arteries carry
blood under high pressure out to all areas of the body after being pumped by the heart. Veins carry
blood that should be under low pressure, back to the heart. An arterydoes not usually connect
directly to a vein. Usually there are very small vessels called capillaries that connect an artery to a
vein. A human with HHT has a tendency to form blood vessels that lack normal capillaries between
an artery and vein. This means the arterial blood under high pressure flows directly into a vein
without first having to squeeze through very small... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the gastrointestinal tract. A high number of HHT patients will also have or develop artery
malformations (AVM s) in one or ore body organs, where capillaries between arteries and veins are
missing. Other common symptoms of HHT include: shortness of breath, exercise tolerance, fatigue,
migraine headaches, seizures, abdominal pain, leg swelling, intestinal bleeding, anemia. Also very
small proportion of patients have multiple benign polyps in the large intestine, which may bleed or

Pro Forma Balance Sheet Analysis
Pro Forma Balance Sheet
The Balance Sheet table below shows the Pro Forma Balance Sheet projections. As is illustrated,
the asset base will grow through accumulated cash balance and retained earnings will grow through
accumulated net profits. Based on these financial projections, the management of DELIGHT
TYME expects to build a business with a solid balance sheet for years to come.
The balance sheet shows the firm s financial position with respect to assets and liabilities at a
specific point in time. An example of a balance sheet is presented in Table..... The balance sheet
provides three types of information: assets, liabilities, and owners equity. Assets are what the
company owns, and they include current assets those that can be converted ... Show more content on

The projection for cash indicates that each year within the three year projection will end with a
positive accumulated cash flow total.
With continued sales growth, cost controls, and gross margin maintenance, the financial projections
contained in this Business Plan should allow DELIGHT TYME Enterprise to maintain a positive
cash flow and cash balance for years to come. This indicates the DELIGHT TYME will have the
ability to sustain its operational cash requirements and provide DELIGHT TYME s ownership with
dividend distribution.
For clarification, dividend distribution in addition to their salaries can be taken by owners
whenever desired. However, even though loan repayment (if applicable) has been accounted for in
the Projected Cash Flow, dividend distribution had not been accounted for in the Projected Cash
Flow. Therefore, the ending cash balance for
Year 3 represents the total cash that would be available for divided distribution if all financial
projection is accurate.

E Commerce ( Electronic Commerce Or Ec )
E commerce (Electronic Commerce or EC) is the purchasing and offering of merchandise and
administrations, or the transmitting of trusts or information, over an electronic system, principally
the Internet. These business exchanges happen either business to business, business to customer,
buyer to purchaser or shopper to business. The terms e trade and e business are frequently
utilized reciprocally. The term e tail is additionally in some cases utilized as a part of reference to
value based procedures around online retail. E business is led utilizing a mixed bag of utilizations,
for example, email, fax, online lists and shopping baskets, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), File
Transfer Protocol, and Web administrations. The greater part of this is business to business, with a
few organizations endeavoring to utilize email and fax for spontaneous promotions (normally saw
as spam) to buyers and different business prospects, and additionally to convey e pamphlets to
supporters. The advantages of e trade incorporate its all day and all night accessibility, the velocity
of access, a more extensive choice of merchandise and administrations, openness, and worldwide
span. Its apparent drawbacks incorporate here and there constrained client administration, not
having the capacity to see or touch an item preceding buy, and the required sit tight time for item
transporting. To guarantee the security, protection and viability of e trade, organizations ought to

Richard Rodriguez And Manuel Munoz
Dinaw Mengestu, Richard Rodriguez and Manuel Munoz are three authors that have been through
and gone through a lot of pain to finaly get accepted in their societies. They are all either
immigrants or children of immigrants that had trouble fitting in America s society at the time.
They struggled with language and their identities, beucase they were not original from the states
and it was difficult for others to accept them for who they are. They all treated their problems
differently an some tried to forget their old identeties and live as regulalr Americans others
accepted themselves for being who they are, but they all found a way to deal with their issues.
Dinaw Mengestu talks about his life long trouble with his society and fitting in with the people of
his community. Born in Ethiopia and raised in the States confused him and made him feel like he
doesn t belong anywhere. He doesn t feel like he was ever part of the Ethiopian society and is not
accepted in the United States, as an American. I understand his situation, not because I went
through what he has but I ve lived around people that have. During high school I had a Persian
friend who s parents have immigrated to Bahrain, and he felt like he didn t belong in the country
he also didn t feel like he was a Persian at all, because he has never been there. It was difficult on
him to make friends, and people made him feel like an outsider. But like Mengestu my friend

Dexter Morgan Killing
Fictional television shows were created to entertain the public. For some television is an escape
from reality were someone s imagination can get the best of them. For others, it s just a fictional
program that has no effect in their lives, or so they think. Watching fictional television can
manipulate the mind into believing that something is good. For example, the TV show Dexter tell
the story of a man who is a killer but the audience wants to see him succeed. Dexter Morgan shows
viewers that murder can sometimes be justified because he only killing those who truly deserved it
which keeps killers off the streets in the society.
Dexter s urge to kill was introduced at a very young age. The older he got the more he wanted to

Bromophenol Blue Experiment
The plot that is most linear according to the line of best fit is Figure 2, f(x) = 0.00310x 0.4269 with
a R^2 value of 0.9973. Comparatively, Figure 1 (zeroth reaction order) has a best fit line of f(x) =
0.00210(x) + 1.3426 with a R^2 value of 0.9094, and Figure 3 (second reaction order) has a best fit
line of f(x) = 0.00550x+0.2716 with a R^2 value of 0.9559. So, my data suggests that Figure 2, rate
law 1, is the most linear, and hence the correct order of reaction can be assumed first order with
respect to Bromophenol blue. Thus, the slope of Figure 2 s line is 0.00310 and therefore the k

Also it is important to consider the spectrometers used in this lab, which had capped out above an
initial absorbance of 2 and higher in the lab, which skewed all future readings since it was
impossible to record from that value, which led to inaccurate readouts for the absorbance values. A
major source of error was that a different volumetric pipette was used to measure the initial
absorbance and in Trial 1a than the micropipette used in the other four trials. Though both
volumetric pipettes were 1 mL, the possible miniscule differences between the two glassware could
have created a significant difference in the tiny volumes. The experiment could have been improved
by use of a UV/Vis rather than a Spec, which could improve the precision and accuracy of the
measured absorbances and thus decrease the uncertainty. Additionally, measuring the absorbances
for a longer duration of time so that a significant deviation from linearity could be observed could
decrease the uncertainty in the reaction order with respect to Bromophenol blue. The best
alternative could involve measuring manipulated concentrations directly against time instead of
absorbance since the values would be in our control instead of in the machine s control, which

Extraction Of Caffeine From Tea
EXTRACTION OF CAFFEINE FROM TEA
Abstract
The method used to separate the organic compound from a mixture of compound is the extraction.
It is done by the dissolving of one or more compounds in a good solvent. The solvent which was
used in this experiment was 15 ml of dichloromethane into 125ml of water. Caffeine was extracted
from 9.19 g of TAZO Awake English Breakfast. Caffeine is soluble in water in 2.2 g/ml at 20 C; it
is more soluble than dichloromethane which has 10.2g/ml at 20 C, and the method used for the
extraction was the liquid liquid extraction method, followed by evaporation. The objective of
going through all these steps was to be able to obtain caffeine from tea and to see how pure or how
the caffeine was not pure in comparing the standard values of Melt Point and RF values of the
result of the experiment.
Introduction
It is well known that tea is one of the greatest frequently used caffeinated drinks in the world. The
caffeine (C8H10N4O2) which was extracted from the tea was harsh and white. Caffeine is
known as being a great stimulant which is mostly used by the majority of people, and caffeine
has a power in people s organism. It creates many different kinds of problems, such respiratory
problems, heart rate problems, anxiety and insomnia problems. On the other hand, caffeine has
some good effects for people, such as improving alertness, learning capacity and exercise
performance (NCBI, 2013). Tea

Essay The Essex and Hazel Motes in Wise Blood by Flannery...
The Essex and Hazel Motes in Wise Blood by Flannery O Connor
In her 1952 novel Wise Blood, Flannery O Connor presents Hazel Motes s Essex automobile as a
symbol for Hazel himself. The car s dilapidated state corresponds to Motes s own spiritual decay;
however, the initial quality of the car s workmanship corresponds to Hazel s Christian upbringing,
which he cannot deny in spite of himself. Motes s identification with and reliance upon his car as
a means of escape becomes ironic as the Essex continually fails to deliver him from his demons;
Hazel s dependence on his car (despite his contentions that he is not concerned with material
possessions) actually holds him back.
O Connor writes of Motes s Christian childhood in chapter one ... Show more content on

Complicating Hazel s confused conceptions of entrapment, sin, and Christianity is the episode
involving the Melsy carnival, at which Hazel and his father pay to see a woman lying in a
coffin. Hazel s father has a lustful reaction to the woman; he says Had one of themther built into
ever casket . . . be a heap ready to go sooner (32). Haze s shut mouthed mother, who O Connor
describes as having a cross shaped face, senses Haze s guilt when he returns home (32 33). Telling
him that Jesus died to redeem you, she whips him with a stick, leaving him with a nameless
unplaced guilt (33). The actions of his parents leave Motes unable to distinguish what is good and
Christian from what is forbidden and evil. He associates his grandfather with Christianity but also
entrapment; he associates entrapment with the carnival episode, in which his father treated the
woman as desirable but after which Hazel was made to feel guilty.
Hazel Motes s Christian upbringing continues to be significant in later chapters of Wise Blood.
Several characters notice an inherent goodness in Hazel that shows through despite his
determination to deny it. The FROSTY BOTTLE waitress, who says, I know a clean boy when I

Freeman And Martin Shkreli
The primary sense of the term [business ethics] refers to recent developments and to the period,
since roughly the early 1070s, when the term came into common use in the United States (George,
Web). This means that business ethics has become a huge deal over the last recent years.
Additionally, Martin Shkreli acted unethically when he raises the price of a useful drug to certain
people who needed it to survive. One person that would argue that Shkreli was acting unethical is
R. Edward Freeman.
A website in the internet informs that Martin Shkreli was born to Albanian and Croatians
immigrates, and he grew up with two sisters and a brother. Moving one, the article states that
Shkreli attended Hunter College High School and started interning ... Show more content on

Edward Freeman would believe just the opposite. Freeman believes the opposite of Friedman.
Freeman argues the opposite by stating that the basic idea is that businesses, and the executives
who manage them, actually do and should create value for customers, suppliers, employees,
communities, and financiers [or shareholders] (Freeman, 39). This passage suggest that Freeman
believes in the stakeholder theory, and that a stakeholder can be anyone: an employee, a customer,
the community, etc. Freeman counter argument to Friedman is that Shkreli forgot the most
important rule in modern business, The customer is always right. Friedman theory might have
been ethical to use in the old days, but in recent years a business being ethical includes taking it
customers opinion into account. Friedman fail to realize that workers and employees play a
huge role in business making profit. Additionally, the web states that For decades, there wasn t
any competition to Daraprim for the simple reason that there wasn t much money to made
selling it (McLean, Web). This is yet another prove that Shkreli didn t had a reason to raise its
price. Because they have no competition, then they didn t have a reason to raise it price. He
acquired the U.S. rights to a lifesaving drug and promptly boosted its price over 5,000 percent
(Mclean, Web). All things consider, it is understandable that the drug cost money to make, but
raising the price to 5000% is outrageously high. For this reason, I believe that if he would have
just double the price, it would have been such a huge deal/unethical. Moving one, in Freedman s
eye Shkreli failed to take his customers into account, and what is worst he hasn t apologized to its
customers. Overall customers have become extremely important to a business, and if you failed to
put customers first the business will not be

The Human Skeleton Can Offer More Information Than Meets...
The human skeleton can offer more information than meets the eye. In fact, when analysing an
individual s skeletal features it is possible to constitute a biological profile. In this essay, I aim to
explore the multiple elements that a human skeleton could shed light upon such as age, sex, stature,
diet, health and trauma.
Due to the natural breakdown of the skeleton with age, the determination of age at the time of
death becomes less precise the older the individual gets. Therefore age is most precisely estimated
in subadults (Adams, 2009). One of the most reliable indicators is the individual s dental
development. Teeth develop from before birth to about 18 years of age, when the formations come
to a conclusion. The observation of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another technique to assess the age in subadults is to observe the epiphyseal fusion of the bones,
which takes place at a foreseeable rate (Adams, 2009). An example of this technique is the
Greulich and Pyle s atlas of the skeletal development of the hand and wrist, which studies in
particular the epiphyseal fusion of the metacarpals and phalanges, as well as the development of the
carpals (Anderson, 1971).
For adult individuals, it much harder to get an accurate age estimation due to the fact that people
age differently which also allows for more variation making the estimation intervals much larger
(Adams, 2009). In adults, age can be estimated through the study of different parts of the thoracic
cage and the pelvis. The first part of interest is the medial clavicle. Age is determined through the
study of the epiphyseal fusion. The epiphysis in those bones is the last to fuse and usually starts
between the ages of 18 and 25. When the medial clavicle is fully fused the individual is in
general over 25 years old (McKern, 1957). The second part of the thoracic cage that is used to
ascertain age is the sternal end of the fourth rib. The characteristics looked at are the formation of a
pit, its depth and shape, configuration of the walls and rim surrounding it, and the overall texture
and quality of the bone (Iscan, 1991, p617). With age, the pit found at the top of the rib deepens and
widens, thinning the

Lord Of The Flies Simon Character Analysis

the boys; therefore we have simon s isolation and piggy s intelligence and jacks chaos.
Body 1 simons isolation
Simon, one of the main characters because of who he is and his feelings toward the whole thing.
He becomes isolated which is important because it shows how he feels. Simon is symbolized as
things such as depression and loneliness which is very important, in the book because there is one
point where simon says to the boys on the beach, which means that he thought about it while the
others did not think about it. He thought about the problem and the things that the boys did he
becomes the beast himself. The story states, maybe we are the beast (Golding). This shows that
simon has thought about it and is thinking about it more as he moves forward and ends up putting
on the pig to show everyone how he feels but ends up getting killed. Simon shut people out because
he was torn between doing the right thing and not doing the right thing. He understands that if he
just goes away that he won t have to be torn. Which shows that he would rather step back and think
and look then to just jump to conclusions. Simon is mature for doing what he did.
This is very important because it shows that people that you say you can trust you can t and they
stab you in the back. Simon is a very important person in the book and always will be. He

Respect And Disrespect In Society
What is the definition of respect? Respect is defined as the quality or state of being esteemed
according to the Merriam Webster Dictionary. Society, thus far, has been based off of respect, but
in a world where respect has seemed to have begun to start disappearing; what exactly could
happen to society itself? Society can handle some disrespect but if disrespect begins to take
control, disrespect could very well become the new norm and lead to dangerous consequences
down the road.
Respect has been around since the dawn of the human race. Leaders have been granted respect
from making a tough decision in hard times to authoritative positions. Respect is not a trait that
has the capability to be gained overnight. Respect is a trait that can be wiped away from just one
mistake an individual makes. Leaders have a huge impact on society. For example, current
President Donald Trump, has received huge amounts of disrespect from decisions he has made
while in office or remarks he made on the campaign trail. This form of disrespect has huge
consequences on society. Society is not functioning in a healthy way due to examples like this.
This is not about whether an individual likes the President or not this is about showing respect.
When the youth see this form of disrespect, it lays the grounds for how the youth will teach their
children. Could society really function with this continuing growth of disrespect? I do not believe
society can survive if there is no more

The Transcontinental Railroad and Westward Expansion
The Transcontinental Railroad and Westward Expansion
Thesis: The transcontinental railroad greatly increased Westward expansion in the United States of
America during the latter half of the nineteenth century.
The history of the United States has been influenced by England in many ways.
In the second half of the 1800 s, the railroad, which was invented in England, had a major effect on
Western expansion in the United States.
Railroads were born in England, a country with dense populations, short distances between cities,
and large financial resources. In America there were different circumstances, a sparse population in
a huge country, large stretches between cities, and only the smallest amounts of money. ( Railroad

Then came the construction gangs who, working in shifts, graded
(flattened) the land by as much as a hundred miles a stretch. Behind them came the track laying
crews, each consisting of ten thousand men and as many animals.
For each mile of track, the government was loaning the railroad from $16,000, for flat land, to
$48,000, for mountainous land ( Railroad 86). The supplies needed to lay a single mile of track
included forty train cars to carry four hundred tons of rail and timber, ties, bridgings, fuel, and
food, which all had to be assembled in a depot on the Missouri River. But the Union Pacific had
the twin advantages of comparatively flat land and a continuous supply line back to the factories of
the East coast. It was quite different for the Central Pacific, which had to fetch most of its materials,
except timber, by sea, twelve thousand miles around the tip of South America. Another difference
between the two companies was their work forces. The Eastern work gangs were recruited from
immigrant Irish, poor Southern whites, and poor Southern blacks, while the
Western crews came mostly from China. The Union Pacific was said to be sustained by whisky
while the Central Pacific was said to be sustained by tea (Douglas
110).
While the Easterners were racing through the prairie, the Westerners were stripping foothill forests,

Coding Theory Case Studies
Abstract
This case study covers the coding theory, its components and its practical applications. Coding
theory, sometimes called logarithmic coding hypothesis, manages the configuration of lapse
remedying codes for the dependable transmission of data crosswise over uproarious channels.
Error coding is utilized as a part of numerous advanced provisions like workstation memory,
attractive and optical information stockpiling media. The investigation of mistake rectifying codes
and the cohorted arithmetic is known as coding hypothesis. In information theory, the amount of
positions at which the relating images are distinctive between two strings is Hamming distance.
Hamming code is a set of error correction codes that might be utilized to recognize and right bit
errors that can happen when machine information is moved or put away.
There is lot of examples of coding theory; one of the biggest examples of its use is in
communication field, i e modulation, encryption and decryption of signal.
Coding Theory A Case
In 1948, Claude Shannon, working at Bell Laboratories in the USA, introduced the entire subject of
coding hypothesis by indicating that it was conceivable to encode messages in such a path, to the
point that the amount of additional bits transmitted was as little as would be prudent.
Unfortunately, his confirmation did not give any express formulas for these ideal codes. It was two
years after the fact that Richard Hamming, likewise at Bell Labs, started

Synthetic Biologists
The computer is one of the greatest gifts from science. If we check history, computer was just a
name of a job title. That name has transferred to a machine as we see computers in this generation.
Then, Scientists have invented biocomputers with systems included to build out of genes, proteins,
cells and O.R. operations. Biocomputers have become so advanced over the past few years. In
2000, first big innovations came to Boston University by James Collins and his colleagues. They
have stitched together inhering genes to make a genetic switch. Also, synthetic biologists
performed all basics Boolean operations of digital logic by creating genetic parts. In 2011,
researchers programmed cells to communicate with each other through chemicals. Synthetic

trying so hard to make biocomputers more advance with some new applications so that when
doctors detect any disease, they can treat them right away. For example, cancer treatments clinics
already have started separating T cells , which are our immune system cells, from blood cancer

how to recognize multiple cancer signatures by this process. Bioengineers are planning to use

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Case Study
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is a very rare and severe autoimmune disease. While the symptoms
vary, lupus commonly affects the skin, joints, and mucous membrane (Brown, Bond, Waldron,
2014). However, systemic lupus erythematosus (or lupus, for short) can become a multi organ
disease resulting in further complications. Because lupus is so rare and the symptoms vary,
diagnosis is difficult and often does not occur until the disease is in its latter stages. However, in the
detection of the disease, Brown, Bond, and Waldron (2014) express the importance of noticing
certain common symptoms in young females, which are severe fatigue, mouth ulcers, headaches,
rashes (especially those caused by the sun), and flitting arthralgasis (joint pain) and... Show more

Affecting primarily African American women in their child rearing years, between the ages of
15 and 40, lupus (for short) has a variety of symptoms. Diagnosis is rare due to differing
symptoms, yet detection is possible with the age of advanced technology. While diagnosis often
does not occur until lupus is in its latter stages, there are precursors Brown, Bond, and Waldron
(2014) encourage healthcare professionals to lookout for. Lupus is believed to develop in
individuals who are genetically predisposed to it and exposed to certain environmental factors.
Such factors include smoking and certain hormones that are directly affected by stress. Studies
have shown that despite whether stress precedes or antecedes smoking, smoking is used as a stress
management technique. Being a poor one, few smokers know that smoking often results in an
increase in stress levels. Likewise, certain hormones like estrogen and prolactin increase with
stress. Both hormones of which are related to inflammation and immunodeficiency which can
precede a lupus flare. Despite this, studies have shown biofeedback assisted cognitive behavioral
treatment and chronic disease self management programs to be effective in directly lowering stress
levels and indirectly managing lupus symptoms and flares. There is room for more research to be
done, but for now, such studies support need for stress management techniques in the lives of lupus

Love in the Brain Essay
Love in the Brain
Does brain equal behavior? Some people have argued that they have difficulty saying it does
because they find it hard to believe that our individual, tangible brain controls emotions that
many consider to be intangible, such as being in love. This paper will discuss the role that the
brain actually plays in love why we are attracted to certain people, why we feel the way we do
when we are around them, and whether or not this is enough to say that in the case of love, brain
does equal behavior.
The first stage of romantic love begins with attraction. Whether you have been best friends for a
long time or you just met the person, you begin your romantic relationship when there is that feeling

In addition, an experiment by McClintock showed that women were attracted to the smell of a
man who was genetically similar, but not too similar, to their fathers ((1)). Therefore, our genetic
information might play a role in whether or not someone is desirable in order to avoid inbreeding
or, on the other end of the spectrum, to avoid the loss of desirable gene combinations. Inevitably,
however, it is our brain that processes another individual s appearance, lifestyle, how they relate to
past individuals we have met, and, possibly, their pheromones. Then, based on this information, we
decide, within our brain, whether or not this person is worth getting to know.
Almost immediately thereafter, it is uncontroversial that when someone experiences an attraction
for someone else, their brain triggers the release of certain chemicals. These adrenaline like
chemicals include phenylethylamine (PEA) which speeds up the flow of information between
nerve cells, dopamine, and norepinephrine (both of which are similar to amphetamines).
Dopamine makes you feel good and norepinephrine stimulates the production of adrenaline.
Together, these chemicals explain why when we are around someone we are attracted to we feel a
rush and our heart beats faster ((8)). However, if you have ever been in love, you know that these
feelings somewhat subside as you become more comfortable with someone and move from

Who Is Tcheltchew s Hide-And-Seek
The Hide and Seek painting which was completed in 1942 is the most celebrated work of Pavel
Tcheltchew . Even though it was completed in 1942, he had been working on various images
since 1934 that were incorporated into this painting. Tcheltchew was born in 1898 and was
raised in Moscow until the Russian Revolution forced his family to flee. He had various jobs
working for local theatres building stage sets while he also worked on his paintings. In the 1920
s he changed the focus of his art to one of using multiple images which sought to reveal both the
organic substructure of an object as well as its place in space and time. He intended to reveal not
just the illusion of an object as seen by the normal eye but the sum of inner knowledge ... Show

However, this picture was strange and somewhat scary. The paintingpresents an apocalyptic vision
of the childhood game. The canvas is dominated by a large tree and has profiles of children with
their mouths open in horror. The painting offers double or multiple readings; the game of hide
and seek where children are depicted in the work and by the viewer who can make endless
discoveries embedded in the dense thicket of designs. Words that come to mind when looking at
this painting have dark connotations. Words such as burning, fire, horror story and hellish have
been used to describe feelings that may be experienced when looking at the painting Upon close
inspection of the painting, there can be found images that cannot be seen from a distance. An
example is the vein in one child s face that has a faint dandelion that served as a pedestal for
another child. This kind of imagery is understandable because of the time period in which it was
painted, during World War II. The design in this painting is a consummate statement of figure
ground, which is the situation where an image on one side of its boundary can be reversed to
become the background of a different image on the other side of the boundary. Every visible object
in the painting, tree, hand, child, leaf, and bird is perceived in a state of change reflecting the
transformations that occur in nature. The

The Effect Of Concentration On Rate Of Reaction With...
How does changing the concentration of Hydrochloric acid affect its rate of reaction with Sodium
Thiosulphate?
Introduction/aim the aim of this experiment is to see how changing the concentration of
hydrochloric acid would change its rate of reaction with Sodium Thiosulphate. This was done by
changing the concentration of Hydrochloric acid to 4 different concentrations and adding them to
the same amount of sodium thiosulphate. This is done in different beakers that will previously be
placed over a piece of paper marked with an x. Once the reaction fully takes place, the x would no
longer be visible therefore the time it takes for the x to no longer be visible is our dependent
variable.
Hypothesis the hypothesis is that as the concentration is increased, the rate of reaction will
increase, but the time will decrease. This is because if the concentration is higher, there will be
more of the sodium thiosulphate, therefore the reaction will take less time as the two mixtures
will collide at a higher frequency. The trend in the graphs that will be later plotted will not be
directly proportional. Graph 1 ( concentration vs time ) has a negative correlation and graph 2 (
concentration vs rate ) has a positive correlation. This is because as the concentration is
increased the time will decrease, that s why graph 1 will have a negative correlation. Graph 2 will
have a positive correlation as rate will be 1/time, therefore the graph flips. Neither of the graphs

Problems regarding the managing and developing of Hogsmeadow Garden Centre
Question #3:
Summarize the problems faced by Don Dursley in managing and developing his centre.
There are a plethora of setbacks being faced by Don Dursley in the development of his garden
centre. Perhaps the most evident one is the problem of inventory management. Dursley insists that
the weather is impossible to predict and plays a major role in determining inventory. The problem if
determining adequate staffing is another obvious problem of Dursley. Even though there are 12
staff members working at the restaurant at lunch time, there are still long lines to buy food. Outside
of the restaurant, Dursley needs the right mix of workers to respond to fluctuations in demand. The
seating at Honeydukes is not ample to serve the amount of customers dining at the restaurant. The
costs incurred in running the garden centre have escalated and have exceeded the revenue
generated from its operations. Based on the assumption that public transportation is not allowed on
the premises, Hogsmeadow is losing customers who do not have private means of transportation.

Justice In Susan Glaspell s Trifles
Within human society, a certain symbiotic relationship exists between the ideas of law and
justice. These two concepts often correlate with one another. However, Susan Glaspell s play,
Trifles , exemplified a specific instance where justice was achieved for Minnie Foster with very
little regard to the law. At the same time, an paradoxical dynamic occurs for John Wright where it
doesn t seem that he will obtain justiceeven with the assistance of the legal system. Colloquial
English speakers often use the terms law and justice interchangeably, and many people associate
the existence of one with the other. However, there are several key differences between the two on
a definitive level. Laws are sets of rules and guidelines set up by governing bodies that members of
society must follow. They re created by social institutions to regulate behavior, and by suppressing
unfavorable behavior, fairness and equality is usually successfully maintained. Justice on the other
hand, is exactly what the establishment of law making bodies are trying to achieve the equal and
same treatment of all individuals based on righteousness, ethics, and morality.... Show more content

According to speculation, Foster s husband John Wright inflicted years of emotional and
psychological abuse by limiting her freedoms and passions. The crime committed against Foster
was a combination of chronic abuse and the alleged slaughter of her beloved canary. As a result,
Foster got vengeance by slipping a rope around Wright s neck and killing him in his sleep. This is
an example where someone obtained justice, as fairness in this case is defined by the victim of an
unjust crime. In Foster s eyes, her husband s death is payment for the loss and trauma she suffered.
Therefore, even though she did not obtained it through the legal system or even legal means, Foster
was ultimately able to attain justice in her own

The Hobbit Book Comparison
From the author of The Lord of The Rings trilogy, J. R. R. Tolkien, and the same crew behind their
film adaptations, Peter Jackson and his writing team, The Battle of the Five Armies is the final
instalment in a trilogy of films based on the classic fantasy novel, The Hobbit.
Picking up from The Desolation of Smaug, this final third follows on with the dwarves as they
attempt to reclaim their homeland of Erebor, as the titular battle ensues on The Lonely Mountain,
with the Goblins and the Wargs fighting against the Men of Lake town, the Elves, the Dwarves and
Eagles.
The following post is a review of the film adaptation in comparison to the book. You can read my

There are a few scenes missed out of the film at this point. First: Bard gives Bilbo two chests, one
filled with gold and one filled with silver. Second: Bilbo gives a silver and pearl necklace to the
elven king. And third: Bilbo, Gandalf, and Beorn travel around the north of Mirkwood and stay
with Beorn for a while. before departing from Rivendell.
Bilbo is shown carrying a chest when he says goodbye to Gandalf in the film, but it is not shown
that he and Gandalf dig up chest they found in the Troll cave. In the book, they split the treasure,
placing it in bags on their horses.
When Gandalf visits Bilbo at the end of the film, Balin also joins them in the book.
Overall Verdict:
The first two instalments were also very different from the book, using characters we know from
The Lord of The Rings trilogy that didn t actually appear in The Hobbit, and additional plots to
bulk the adaptations out with Jackson making extensive use of the appendices published in the
back of The Return of the King, but it all felt necessary beforehand and filled the story out quite
well. A lot of what happens in this film, however, is completely unnecessary and only ends the
franchise on a sour

Stranger
Thomas Mann s Tonio Kroeger and Albert Camus s The Stranger
Introduction
The literary characters of Meursault and Tonio Kroeger are likely depicted as outsiders in the
novels The Stranger by Albert Camus and Tonio Kroeger by Thomas Mann. The novels can both be
described as existentialist investigations. In the school of philosophy, existentialism seeks to
investigate the relationship between individuals and the society, the meaning of life, and the
unavoidable conflicts in interpersonal relationships among other inquisitions (Sleasman, 2014).
Existentialism is evident in the two novels under review as the characters are treated as outsiders.
Albert Camus The Stranger The concept of the outsider is demonstrated by the two lead
characters namely Meursault and Tonio Kroeger. In The Stranger, Meursault is depicted as an
outsider both in himself as well as the society as owing to his criminal tendencies as he battles to
show emotions and link with realities regarding his life (Sleasman, 2014). Meursault is depicted as
much disconnected to the current world and life either emotionally or socially. For instance, the
opening scene shows how Meursault reacts to his mother s death. His lack of remorse and loss is
both salient and borders on the pathological. By falling asleep during his mother s funeral; the
action demonstrates the lack of feelings and social competence which children are usually expected
to show to their parents (Camus, 2012). Furthermore, he consents

Becoming A Saint Research Paper
The process of becoming a saint is a prolonged one, it can take up to five years just to earn the
title, Saint . But if there is someone there who wants to be a saint, I will be telling you the step by
step on how you can earn this title. The first step is to die, as we believe that Saints are in heaven
with God. This means at some point after thier death, word of mouth from someone who knew the
potential saint, or a member of the religous community asks their local bishop to begin the cause
for canonization. As soon as the bishop agrees, the potential Saint receives the title, Servant Of God.
Next, a formal review is undertaken, guided by historians and theologians; the bishop may decide
to send the cause to Rome, at the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. This department
determines if the potential saint has shown heroic sanctity in their lifetime, worthy of imitation.
To illustrate my point, did they live a life marked by virtuous actions? Did they do good works out
of love of God and neighbors? If so, with the Pope s decree, they are declared, Venerable. ... Show

Langston Hughes Silhouette
Many writers of the past and even today have attempted to openly talk of African American racial
biases, hatred and aggression issues. Langston Hughes was very successful in shinning the light in
this subject through his poem Silhouette which was written in 1949. Through his selective yet
literal choice of words Hughes created a powerful and haunting image of African Americaninjustice
and atrocities.
The original context of Silhouette was an indirectly stated and strong outcry that persuaded the
reader to openly view the injustice towards blacks, in this case the event of hanging a black man.
The poem was really powerful in part because of the hostile era during the early and late 1940s
where being near white women was forbidden and for which several African Americans especially
in the South were lynched or brutally punished. This aspect grabbed the essential audience and
created the perfect atmosphere to deliver his message through the poem, because all ... Show more

The distribution of the test statistic under the null hypothesis is derived from the assumptions
identified previously. Common test statistics may follow the following distributions: Normal,
Student T, and Chi Square. This distribution separates the possible values of the estimatorinto two
categories: values for which the null hypothesis is accepted or rejected. The region for which
we accept the null hypothesis is called the critical region and the area underneath the curve that
corresponds to the critical region is known as the level of confidence. Hence, we can develop a
confidence interval for which we can see the lowest and highest point of the critical region. Any
observed sample mean that lies outside of this confidence interval (outside the critical region)
would cause us to reject the null hypothesis in favor of the alternative hypothesis. The area of the
rejection region is known as the level of significance and represents type I error (alpha)
corresponding to the probability that a true null hypothesis is rejected (as opposed to type II error
beta; the probability of accepting a false null hypothesis). Essentially, hypothesis testing calls for
comparing a test statistic to the critical value of the test statistic. If this test statistic is greater than
the critical value of the test statistic, we will reject the null hypothesis in favor of the alternative
hypothesis. If

Compare And Contrast A Streetcar Named Desire Movie And Movie
Elia Kazan s film, A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) was adapted from the play originally written
by Tennessee Williams. This film won multiple Oscars and countless other awards that prove it to
be an extremely impressive work for its time. The setting of this film sets the stage, the themes and
symbolism add interest, and the characterization only enhances an already impressive work. These
elements and many more are what make up this incredible film.
This film is set in the 1940 s in the bustling city of New Orleans. A majority of the scenes take
place within the walls of the Kowalski s two room home. The size of the home is something that
Blanche comments on right away and it adds tension to many scenes throughout the film. The
constant quarrelling between the characters often make the house feel even smaller than it is. It
offered little privacy, with only a curtain to divide the rooms, and the characters often went back
and forth between the rooms quickly, sometimes several times in one scene. The setting is much
like one that would be used for a play. It was very two dimensional and only offered a straight on
view. The upstairs home that belonged to Steve and Eunice played an important role at two
specific points in the movie. Though it was directly above the Kowalski s, it often goes without
mention. When it was acknowledged, it was often used as a shelter. Stella and Blanche ran up the
stairs after the fight in the poker game scene, and though Stella returned downstairs

This increase in revenue is due to the success of a specific team, marketing, and salary cap. More
successful teams earn more revenue. For example, the Golden State Warriors received nearly

More attendance means more revenue for the program because more tickets are being sold.
Another way revenue is gained is having a star player or players. The Cleveland Cavaliers have

Panama And Paradise Papers
Outcry over the revelations indicated in the Panama and Paradise Papers demonstrates the
significant public concern with the usage of international tax havens. While tax arbitrage is often
legal, many stakeholders have serious ethical and legal reservations about a firm s tax avoidant
behaviors. Investors are becoming increasingly aware of the regulatory and reputational risks
encountered in secretive low taxjurisdictions. Furthermore, stockholders and creditors are also
troubled that firms engaging in tax avoidance are distracted from other activities that would
enhance firm value.
Corporate tax avoidance matters, however, are difficult to analyze without consistent geographical
disclosures. Unfortunately, there is a significant lack of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, Form 10 K tax footnote disclosures are complex and relevant information is often
not available nor easily extracted. While sporadic data leaks such as the Panama Papers can
potentially influence how the actions of a MNE are viewed, leaked information is often suddenly
available, incomplete, or not comparable to other companies operating in the same industry or
country, potentially leading to cognitive overload.
Country by country reporting (CBCR) represents an alternative to these disclosure practices and
better guarantees that sufficient taxes are paid in the locations where profits are generated. CBCR
provides consistent jurisdiction based, profit and tax information without regard to significance
thresholds or management reporting preferences. Specifically, CBCR guidelines would require
firms to provide country specific information regarding the nature of corporate activities, net assets,
profit before income tax, income tax accrued and paid, accumulated earnings, and the number of
employees.
Tax fairness campaigners, including the Tax Justice Network and Publish What You Pay, contend
that the jurisdiction based data is of pivotal value to many stakeholder interests and would be
utilized to enhance the stakeholder decisions of current and potential investors, consumers,
employees, regulatory agencies, governments, and other concerned parties. Users could more

UNDERLYING PRINCIPLES OF TRADE POLICY AND IMPORT SUBSTITUITION
INDUSTRIALIZATION Trade Policy Trade Policy basically characterizes objectives, values,
guidelines and directions which relates to interchange relations between nations. As their goal is to
help the country s international trade the policies are particular to every nation and are defined by
its public authorities. Taxes imposed on import and export, assessment of rules and regulations, and
duties and shares are incorporated in nation s exchange policy (Economy Watch, 2010). For most of
the establishing nations, industrialization is an essential target, which is viewed as important to
accomplish supported financial development, open doors of opportunity that lead to expansion and
modernization of their economies. However, there are elective exchange strategies, which assume
diverse part at the same time illustrates industrialization in these nations. Given the current phase of
advancement and asset assistances exchange arrangements have huge effect on the pace and
example of industrialization in the creating nations. The exchange dealings received by these

Polymers Have Different Structures. They Also Have...
Polymers have different structures. They also have different functions. Describe how the
structures of different polymers relate to their function? Polymers a large molecules made up of
a chain of smaller molecules, known as monomers. The monomers that a polymer is made up of
decide its structure and therefore it s function. These monomers are linked and coiled in a very
specific manor giving the polymer a specific tertiary structure (an extensively coiled and linked
polymer chain caused as a result of the formation of more bonds forming). This tertiary structure is
crucial to the function of a polymer as it denotes the necessary shape of the complementary
molecule. This is easier explained through an example. An example of a... Show more content on

Haemoglobin is just one of the many possible forms and functions of a protein polymer. They all
have different structures, which makes them specialised to carry out a particular function. For
example enzymes. They are roughly spherical in shape due to the tight folding of the
polypeptide chains. Enzymes play important roles in most biological processes, in particular
metabolism and synthesis. The tertiary structure of an enzyme is of particular importance to its
function and a slight change in the chain sequence and therefore it s shape can result in it
becoming inactive. Enzymes work by combining with a substrate to form an enzyme substrate
complex, the substrate is then broken down and released. Each enzyme has a particular substrate
that is can breakdown, this will be the substrate with the complimentary structure to that of the
active site of the enzyme. For example starch is only broken down by amylase. As the shape of
the active site depends on the shape of the polymer shape so does the over all function of the
enzyme. Antibodies are involved in the immune response. They re made up of two light
polypeptide chains and two heavy polypeptide chains bonded together. Antibodies have a variable
region which acts in a similar way to the active site of an enzyme. Each antibody has a variable
region that is the complementary shape for a particular antigen and

Who Is Leopold A Conservationist
Leopold starts by comparing conservationists to hunters by saying conservationists use laws and
other methods to make animals to stay put and take advantage of them, much similar to hunters.
Conservationists include those who use the land for recreational use. They are there to make money
and use the animals as properties and ways to make money. Another comparison brought up by
Leopold is between the duck hunter and the operatic singer. They are both used as a form of
entertainment and thus, self pleasure. Although both the conservationists, those who take
advantage of animals by watching or taking pictures, and hunters are similar in different ways, they
disagree on laws concerning their actions. They both use the animalsfor recreation and

The Pros And Cons Of Stress Management
Stress is a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding
circumstances (Dictionary.com). Stress management is any technique developed to help someone
cope with or lessen the physical and emotional effects of everyday life pressure (Dictionary.com).
There are different types of stressthat we deal with on a daily basis, but sometimes we may not
even know what type of stress we are dealing with. We deal with good and bad stress, but that s
why it is important to know about stressors our bodies are going through so that we can be aware
of it and try to find a way to minimize stress. Sometimes stress can be a positive force, motivating
you to perform well on a job interview or speaking at an important event (American
Psychological Association). I find myself dealing with stress because of all the hard work I have
to do in all my classes in order for me to keep a good grade in classes. I knew that I was stressing
because my hands will get real sweaty, my heart beats really fast, I have panic attacks, and I get
depressed so I had to relieve some of my stress by eliminating one of my classes and it helped me
out a little bit. There are different types of stress levels; ways that can help you manage stress, and
disadvantages/cons of stress. We may not even know what types of stress we are going through
until we realize that our body language has changed and we are stressing out about everything. The
most common stress is acute

Fantastik Cleaners
Executive Summary
Fantastik is an all purpose cleaner made by SC Johnson that has two main product lines; the
Fantastik Original and the new, more powerful, Fantastik Evergreen. These are not just regular
chemically made cleaning products but are 100% environmentally safe.
Fantastik is currently the market leader with 37.9% and has an extremely loyal consumer base
following the SC Johnson brand but they are currently losing market share due to a lack of
positioning by the company. One main advantage Fantastik holds is there is a current trend for
consumers being more green conscious which makes the product more attractive. This is why
communicating Fantastik s position Clean Green message must be done effectively.
There are three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This leads into the next issue their organization faces, which is their lack of informing the
consumers of their product benefits. The Fantastik cleaners are the only ones on the market that
are 100% safe for the environment. With such a competitive advantage over their competitors,
they have to be able to bridge this communication gap they currently have with consumers,
because many of them are unaware of Fantastik s triple bottom line goals. In order to help build
brand awareness, they have to advertise more to their target segments. But one of the issues is
Fantastik s advertising budget has decreased from $1,375,000 in 2005 to $825,000 in 2006.
Fantastik also has the problem of lacking diversity in their product line. Although they have five
different cleaners, all of them are fairly similar and many consumers would not be able to tell their
differences other than the price.
Internal Analysis
Financial Position: Currently, Fantastik has a 37.9% dollar share in the all purpose cleaner
market in Canada which amounts to $12,128,000 (Figure 2). Using the current retailer mark up
of 23%, we can find Fantastik s sales which are 9,860,162.60 (Figure 2). Overall it is difficult to
gauge how well Fantastik is doing. Its gross profit after costs of goods sold and discounts is
$3,544,065. Since fixed costs are not known, we do not know if Fantastik is

Lao Tzu Qualities

The Qualities of a Leader
The qualities of one s leaders play a vital role in determining the success or failure of a society.
Virtuous leaders let a nation succeed when its at its greatest peril. The effectiveness of the leader
allows the nation to be great and the fulfill their mission. Over the years, the view on what an
effective government is has changed. In the 6th Century China, a Philosopher named Lao Tzu saw
an effective government as one that used war last, that the ideal form of governing is to have
minimal effect on peoples lives. In the 13th Century Italy, Machiavelli, a diplomat and philosopher,
advised that the prince should be well versed in the art of war, and should exercise qualities and
laws that bring them praise so their position is not disputed. While both views seem to be extreme
of a spectrum it will be clear the Machiavelli s Prince is the better leader for the modern society.
On the Subject of war and conflict, Lao Tzu deems it a last resort as it leads to suffering no
matter the outcome. When a country goes counter to the Tao, warheads are stockpiled outside
the cities. (Kindle Locations 1934 1935) Lao Tzu here is stating that once we stray from the
ideal path, pain and suffering will follow. Fear is the greatest enemy and is what leads to conflict. It
is once a person finds pleasure in war, they lose themselves and are no longer his idea of the ideal
man and is instead a

  • 2. Rawls Vs Norzick s Theory Essay 1.What are some important common ground, () both theorists utilize in constructing and ultimately defending their theories? Some important common ground both theorists utilize in constructing and defending their theories are that both talked about justice, liberty, and equality. Both Rawls and Norzick believe that justice, liberty, and equality would make a better society. Both talked strongly about a just society. Rawls and Norzick tried to figure out how to create a more just society. They also believed in moral side constraint. Lastly, they both touched on property rights. 2.By Characterizing his original position as the appropriate initial status quo what moral sensibilities does Rawl appeal to in order to advance his theory? Please ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His second constraint states that they must be chosen behind a veil of ignorance. By placing the parties behind a veil of ignorance, Rawls believes that the choice situation will nullify the effects of specific contingencies that put men at odds. He also thinks it will tempt them to exploit social and natural circumstances to their own advantage. 3.Norzick s entitlement theory of justice place the appeal (main argument) of the theory by looking at two different beliefs/ behaviors in society to determine what is just. What are these two different beliefs/behaviors? Please explain each. How do they apply to the concept of the minimal state The entitlement theory of justice tells us that whatever arises from a just situation by just steps is itself just. Norzick s two beliefs are absolute property ownership rights. His other belief is redistribution rights. Norzicks belief of property ownership rights is the right of ownership over oneself and over things in the world. For example, in a class discussion, we talked about how if someone wanted to give their eye to someone who needs it, they have the right to do so because they absolute property ownership of their ... • 3. The Church Of The Holy Cross Lutheran Church On Saturday 7, 2015, Alex, Michael and I drove to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church located in 11515 Ashcake Road Ashland, Virginia (about a 5 minute drive away from campus). The first thing that caught my attention was the external structure of the church. The architecture of the church is old school and it looks like a wooden house. Inside the church we could immediately tell that there were at least two floors. The top floor was where the altar was located and where the congregation took place. As soon as we stepped into the top floor, a really nice lady approached us and told us to sign a book of guests that everyone that attends the service had to sign. After we signed in, the pastor approached us and we told him that we were attending the service for a research project and that we were students from Randolph Macon College, he seemed thrilled to be able to help us. The service itself was much laid back and relatively small. There were 25 people at the church on that Saturday, and they were all very friendly. The pastor was very enthusiastic and welcoming to us. At the beginning of the service, he introduced us to everyone in the church and he encouraged us to research as much as we wanted to. In my opinion, this service was very similar to a catholic worship, or similar to the service that I used to attend when I lived in Venezuela. There was a lot of sitting, reading, standing, and singing. As we learned in class and in Williams s Religion in America, music is a very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Delta Air Travel Air travel has become a common part of everyday life. However, one of the common complaints with air travel is the prices of the tickets. It turns out that people are not the only ones who have trouble finding the lowest ticket price, computers have a hard time as well. This paper aims to look at the computational complexity of air travel planning, and find the lowest priced ticket between two destinations using popular search algorithms. As explained in the introduction, it is not feasible to attempt to run all the flights across the world through the search algorithms. Instead, flights from one airline, Delta, were selected. This includes code share flights. The flight database that was used is from www.openflights.org and the data is current... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In doing the research for this project, no such database was able to be found, however. The final element of this experiment which could use more investigation and changes is the algorithms used. While the two selected worked for the most part (excluding the one route A* could not compute), they are likely not the best choice for this type of search. Finding more robust versions of UCS and A* and including some other algorithms could have provided more conclusive results as well as giving more interesting data. The goal of this project was to take a public database of airline flights, select a number of flights, and run those flights through a couple of the search algorithms studied in class (uniform cost search and A* search). The algorithms provided some interesting results when run on the ten randomly selected routes. In almost all of the cases the algorithms were able to find the cheapest path between the departure and arrival airports, although A* chose a more expensive route once and could not find one other route. When these findings were compared with Google s flight search, some of the results were surprising. Almost all of the real world flights cost more or less than what the two algorithms found, ... • 5. Hallucinogen Research Paper Hallucinogen is a title commonly given to drugs that are mind altering. This category of drug includes those which cause a variety of side effects, most commonly temporary distortions to one s view of reality. Hallucinogens are commonly used for recreation, along with in some cultures as religious practices ( What Is A Hallucinogen? ). The most common hallucinogens are LSD, Psilocybin, Peyote, and DMT. All five of these are plant based substances ( Hallucinogens ). They also each fall under the classification of an alkaloid. Alkaloids are commonly found in plants, and have not been proven to serve any specific purpose among plants. Alkaloids can vary in structure, but always have a nitrogen atom as part of a structure similar to that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I personally believe that use of hallucinogens has already become fairly socially acceptable. I feel that my generation is very open minded and is less likely to condemn others for controversial choices than older generations. I feel that it should be socially acceptable, because everyone makes their own choices. If someone is choosing to use hallucinogens on their own time for recreation, and they are not hurting anyone else in the process, there is no reason they should be shamed for that choice. They understand the consequences of their own actions, and can therefore be mature about it and deal with said consequences. At the same time, those who use hallucinogens as a religious rite, such as some southwestern native american tribes do, should not be frowned upon. Christians consume wine in church as part of the eucharist. Nobody tells them that because alcohol is harmful to the human body, they should not do it. Therefore, there is no reason for anyone else to condemn religious groups for using hallucinogens. Everyone has the capability to make their own choices, whether for recreation or for religious reasons. If no one is forcing a sheet of blotter paper onto one s tongue or putting peyote in someone else s tea, I see no problem with use of hallucinogens from a social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia Research Paper Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, is also known as the Osler Weber Rendu Syndrome, Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia effects approximately 1 in 5,000 people. It effects males and females from all racial ethnic groups. Dr. Rendu first described Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia as a hereditary disorder involving nosebleeds and characteristic red spots that was distinctly different from hemophilia. HHT is a hereditary disorder that is passed down through generations, Its characterized by abnormal bloodvessels. Blood vessels are the tubes that carry blood around our bodies. There are two types of blood vessels; arteries and veins. Arteries carry blood under high pressure out to all areas of the body after being pumped by the heart. Veins carry blood that should be under low pressure, back to the heart. An arterydoes not usually connect directly to a vein. Usually there are very small vessels called capillaries that connect an artery to a vein. A human with HHT has a tendency to form blood vessels that lack normal capillaries between an artery and vein. Other common symptoms of HHT include: shortness of breath, exercise tolerance, fatigue, migraine headaches, seizures, abdominal pain, leg swelling, intestinal bleeding, anemia. Comparatively, Figure 1 (zeroth reaction order) has a best fit line of f(x) = 0.00210(x) + 1.3426 with a R^2 value of 0.9094, and Figure 3 (second reaction order) has a best fit line of f(x) = 0.00550x+0.2716 with a R^2 value of 0.9559. So, my data suggests that Figure 2, rate law 1, is the most linear, and hence the correct order of reaction can be assumed first order with respect to Bromophenol blue. Also it is important to consider the spectrometers used in this lab, which had capped out above an initial absorbance of 2 and higher in the lab, which skewed all future readings since it was impossible to record from that value, which led to inaccurate readouts for the absorbance values. A major source of error was that a different volumetric pipette was used to measure the initial absorbance and in Trial 1a than the micropipette used in the other four trials. Though both volumetric pipettes were 1 mL, the possible miniscule differences between the two glassware could have created a significant difference in the tiny volumes. The experiment could have been improved by use of a UV/Vis rather than a Spec, which could improve the precision and accuracy of the measured absorbances and thus decrease the uncertainty. Additionally, measuring the absorbances for a longer duration of time so that a significant deviation from linearity could be observed could decrease the uncertainty in the reaction order with respect to Bromophenol blue. The best alternative could involve measuring manipulated concentrations directly against time instead of absorbance since the values would be in our control instead of in the machine s control, which tended to show inevitable ... • 12. Extraction Of Caffeine From Tea EXTRACTION OF CAFFEINE FROM TEA Abstract The method used to separate the organic compound from a mixture of compound is the extraction. It is done by the dissolving of one or more compounds in a good solvent. The solvent which was used in this experiment was 15 ml of dichloromethane into 125ml of water. Caffeine was extracted from 9.19 g of TAZO Awake English Breakfast. Caffeine is soluble in water in 2.2 g/ml at 20 C; it is more soluble than dichloromethane which has 10.2g/ml at 20 C, and the method used for the extraction was the liquid liquid extraction method, followed by evaporation. The objective of going through all these steps was to be able to obtain caffeine from tea and to see how pure or how the caffeine was not pure in comparing the standard values of Melt Point and RF values of the result of the experiment. Introduction It is well known that tea is one of the greatest frequently used caffeinated drinks in the world. The caffeine (C8H10N4O2) which was extracted from the tea was harsh and white. Caffeine is known as being a great stimulant which is mostly used by the majority of people, and caffeine has a power in people s organism. It creates many different kinds of problems, such respiratory problems, heart rate problems, anxiety and insomnia problems. On the other hand, caffeine has some good effects for people, such as improving alertness, learning capacity and exercise performance (NCBI, 2013). Tea Also contains other components such as ... The Essex and Hazel Motes in Wise Blood by Flannery O Connor In her 1952 novel Wise Blood, Flannery O Connor presents Hazel Motes s Essex automobile as a symbol for Hazel himself. The car s dilapidated state corresponds to Motes s own spiritual decay; however, the initial quality of the car s workmanship corresponds to Hazel s Christian upbringing, which he cannot deny in spite of himself. Motes s identification with and reliance upon his car as a means of escape becomes ironic as the Essex continually fails to deliver him from his demons; Hazel s dependence on his car (despite his contentions that he is not concerned with material possessions) actually holds him back. O Connor writes of Motes s Christian childhood in chapter one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Complicating Hazel s confused conceptions of entrapment, sin, and Christianity is the episode involving the Melsy carnival, at which Hazel and his father pay to see a woman lying in a coffin. Hazel s father has a lustful reaction to the woman; he says Had one of themther built into ever casket . . . be a heap ready to go sooner (32). Haze s shut mouthed mother, who O Connor describes as having a cross shaped face, senses Haze s guilt when he returns home (32 33). Telling him that Jesus died to redeem you, she whips him with a stick, leaving him with a nameless unplaced guilt (33). The actions of his parents leave Motes unable to distinguish what is good and Christian from what is forbidden and evil. He associates his grandfather with Christianity but also entrapment; he associates entrapment with the carnival episode, in which his father treated the woman as desirable but after which Hazel was made to feel guilty. Hazel Motes s Christian upbringing continues to be significant in later chapters of Wise Blood. This means that business ethics has become a huge deal over the last recent years. Additionally, Martin Shkreli acted unethically when he raises the price of a useful drug to certain people who needed it to survive. One person that would argue that Shkreli was acting unethical is R. Edward Freeman. Freeman believes the opposite of Friedman. Freeman argues the opposite by stating that the basic idea is that businesses, and the executives who manage them, actually do and should create value for customers, suppliers, employees, communities, and financiers [or shareholders] (Freeman, 39). This passage suggest that Freeman believes in the stakeholder theory, and that a stakeholder can be anyone: an employee, a customer, the community, etc. Freeman counter argument to Friedman is that Shkreli forgot the most important rule in modern business, The customer is always right. Friedman theory might have been ethical to use in the old days, but in recent years a business being ethical includes taking it customers opinion into account. Friedman fail to realize that workers and employees play a huge role in business making profit. Additionally, the web states that For decades, there wasn t any competition to Daraprim for the simple reason that there wasn t much money to made selling it (McLean, Web). This is yet another prove that Shkreli didn t had a reason to raise its price. Because they have no competition, then they didn t have a reason to raise it price. He acquired the U.S. rights to a lifesaving drug and promptly boosted its price over 5,000 percent (Mclean, Web). All things consider, it is understandable that the drug cost money to make, but raising the price to 5000% is outrageously high. For this reason, I believe that if he would have just double the price, it would have been such a huge deal/unethical. In fact, when analysing an individual s skeletal features it is possible to constitute a biological profile. In this essay, I aim to explore the multiple elements that a human skeleton could shed light upon such as age, sex, stature, diet, health and trauma. Due to the natural breakdown of the skeleton with age, the determination of age at the time of death becomes less precise the older the individual gets. Therefore age is most precisely estimated in subadults (Adams, 2009). One of the most reliable indicators is the individual s dental development. Teeth develop from before birth to about 18 years of age, when the formations come to a conclusion. The observation of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another technique to assess the age in subadults is to observe the epiphyseal fusion of the bones, which takes place at a foreseeable rate (Adams, 2009). An example of this technique is the Greulich and Pyle s atlas of the skeletal development of the hand and wrist, which studies in particular the epiphyseal fusion of the metacarpals and phalanges, as well as the development of the carpals (Anderson, 1971). For adult individuals, it much harder to get an accurate age estimation due to the fact that people age differently which also allows for more variation making the estimation intervals much larger (Adams, 2009). In adults, age can be estimated through the study of different parts of the thoracic cage and the pelvis. The first part of interest is the medial clavicle. Age is determined through the study of the epiphyseal fusion. The epiphysis in those bones is the last to fuse and usually starts between the ages of 18 and 25. When the medial clavicle is fully fused the individual is in general over 25 years old (McKern, 1957). The second part of the thoracic cage that is used to ascertain age is the sternal end of the fourth rib. The characteristics looked at are the formation of a pit, its depth and shape, configuration of the walls and rim surrounding it, and the overall texture and quality of the bone (Iscan, 1991, p617). He thought about the problem and the things that the boys did he becomes the beast himself. The story states, maybe we are the beast (Golding). • 17. Respect And Disrespect In Society What is the definition of respect? Respect is defined as the quality or state of being esteemed according to the Merriam Webster Dictionary. Society, thus far, has been based off of respect, but in a world where respect has seemed to have begun to start disappearing; what exactly could happen to society itself? Society can handle some disrespect but if disrespect begins to take control, disrespect could very well become the new norm and lead to dangerous consequences down the road. Respect has been around since the dawn of the human race. Leaders have been granted respect from making a tough decision in hard times to authoritative positions. Respect is not a trait that has the capability to be gained overnight. Respect is a trait that can be wiped away from just one mistake an individual makes. Leaders have a huge impact on society. For example, current President Donald Trump, has received huge amounts of disrespect from decisions he has made while in office or remarks he made on the campaign trail. This form of disrespect has huge consequences on society. Society is not functioning in a healthy way due to examples like this. This is not about whether an individual likes the President or not this is about showing respect. When the youth see this form of disrespect, it lays the grounds for how the youth will teach their children. Could society really function with this continuing growth of disrespect? • 18. The Transcontinental Railroad and Westward Expansion The Transcontinental Railroad and Westward Expansion Thesis: The transcontinental railroad greatly increased Westward expansion in the United States of America during the latter half of the nineteenth century. The history of the United States has been influenced by England in many ways. In the second half of the 1800 s, the railroad, which was invented in England, had a major effect on Western expansion in the United States. Railroads were born in England, a country with dense populations, short distances between cities, and large financial resources. In America there were different circumstances, a sparse population in a huge country, large stretches between cities, and only the smallest amounts of money. ( Railroad 85) ... Behind them came the track laying crews, each consisting of ten thousand men and as many animals. For each mile of track, the government was loaning the railroad from $16,000, for flat land, to $48,000, for mountainous land ( Railroad 86). The supplies needed to lay a single mile of track included forty train cars to carry four hundred tons of rail and timber, ties, bridgings, fuel, and food, which all had to be assembled in a depot on the Missouri River. But the Union Pacific had the twin advantages of comparatively flat land and a continuous supply line back to the factories of the East coast. It was quite different for the Central Pacific, which had to fetch most of its materials, except timber, by sea, twelve thousand miles around the tip of South America. Another difference between the two companies was their work forces. The Eastern work gangs were recruited from immigrant Irish, poor Southern whites, and poor Southern blacks, while the Western crews came mostly from China. The Union Pacific was said to be sustained by whisky while the Central Pacific was said to be sustained by tea (Douglas 110). • 19. Coding Theory Case Studies Abstract This case study covers the coding theory, its components and its practical applications. Coding theory, sometimes called logarithmic coding hypothesis, manages the configuration of lapse remedying codes for the dependable transmission of data crosswise over uproarious channels. Error coding is utilized as a part of numerous advanced provisions like workstation memory, attractive and optical information stockpiling media. The investigation of mistake rectifying codes and the cohorted arithmetic is known as coding hypothesis. In information theory, the amount of positions at which the relating images are distinctive between two strings is Hamming distance. Hamming code is a set of error correction codes that might be utilized to recognize and right bit errors that can happen when machine information is moved or put away. There is lot of examples of coding theory; one of the biggest examples of its use is in communication field, i e modulation, encryption and decryption of signal. Coding Theory A Case In 1948, Claude Shannon, working at Bell Laboratories in the USA, introduced the entire subject of coding hypothesis by indicating that it was conceivable to encode messages in such a path, to the point that the amount of additional bits transmitted was as little as would be prudent. Unfortunately, his confirmation did not give any express formulas for these ideal codes. It was two years after the fact that Richard Hamming, likewise at Bell Labs, started ... In 2000, first big innovations came to Boston University by James Collins and his colleagues. They have stitched together inhering genes to make a genetic switch. While the symptoms vary, lupus commonly affects the skin, joints, and mucous membrane (Brown, Bond, Waldron, 2014). However, systemic lupus erythematosus (or lupus, for short) can become a multi organ disease resulting in further complications. Because lupus is so rare and the symptoms vary, diagnosis is difficult and often does not occur until the disease is in its latter stages. However, in the detection of the disease, Brown, Bond, and Waldron (2014) express the importance of noticing certain common symptoms in young females, which are severe fatigue, mouth ulcers, headaches, rashes (especially those caused by the sun), and flitting arthralgasis (joint pain) and... Lupus is believed to develop in individuals who are genetically predisposed to it and exposed to certain environmental factors. Such factors include smoking and certain hormones that are directly affected by stress. Studies have shown that despite whether stress precedes or antecedes smoking, smoking is used as a stress management technique. Being a poor one, few smokers know that smoking often results in an increase in stress levels. Likewise, certain hormones like estrogen and prolactin increase with stress. Both hormones of which are related to inflammation and immunodeficiency which can precede a lupus flare. Some people have argued that they have difficulty saying it does because they find it hard to believe that our individual, tangible brain controls emotions that many consider to be intangible, such as being in love. This paper will discuss the role that the brain actually plays in love why we are attracted to certain people, why we feel the way we do when we are around them, and whether or not this is enough to say that in the case of love, brain does equal behavior. In addition, an experiment by McClintock showed that women were attracted to the smell of a man who was genetically similar, but not too similar, to their fathers ((1)). Therefore, our genetic information might play a role in whether or not someone is desirable in order to avoid inbreeding or, on the other end of the spectrum, to avoid the loss of desirable gene combinations. Inevitably, however, it is our brain that processes another individual s appearance, lifestyle, how they relate to past individuals we have met, and, possibly, their pheromones. Then, based on this information, we decide, within our brain, whether or not this person is worth getting to know. Almost immediately thereafter, it is uncontroversial that when someone experiences an attraction for someone else, their brain triggers the release of certain chemicals. These adrenaline like chemicals include phenylethylamine (PEA) which speeds up the flow of information between nerve cells, dopamine, and norepinephrine (both of which are similar to amphetamines). Dopamine makes you feel good and norepinephrine stimulates the production of adrenaline. Introduction/aim the aim of this experiment is to see how changing the concentration of hydrochloric acid would change its rate of reaction with Sodium Thiosulphate. This was done by changing the concentration of Hydrochloric acid to 4 different concentrations and adding them to the same amount of sodium thiosulphate. This is done in different beakers that will previously be placed over a piece of paper marked with an x. Once the reaction fully takes place, the x would no longer be visible therefore the time it takes for the x to no longer be visible is our dependent variable. Hypothesis the hypothesis is that as the concentration is increased, the rate of reaction will increase, but the time will decrease. This is because if the concentration is higher, there will be more of the sodium thiosulphate, therefore the reaction will take less time as the two mixtures will collide at a higher frequency. The trend in the graphs that will be later plotted will not be directly proportional. Graph 1 ( concentration vs time ) has a negative correlation and graph 2 ( concentration vs rate ) has a positive correlation. This is because as the concentration is increased the time will decrease, that s why graph 1 will have a negative correlation. Graph 2 will have a positive correlation as rate will be 1/time, therefore the graph flips. Neither of the graphs will be directly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, Susan Glaspell s play, Trifles , exemplified a specific instance where justice was achieved for Minnie Foster with very little regard to the law. At the same time, an paradoxical dynamic occurs for John Wright where it doesn t seem that he will obtain justiceeven with the assistance of the legal system. Colloquial English speakers often use the terms law and justice interchangeably, and many people associate the existence of one with the other. However, there are several key differences between the two on a definitive level. Laws are sets of rules and guidelines set up by governing bodies that members of society must follow. They re created by social institutions to regulate behavior, and by suppressing unfavorable behavior, fairness and equality is usually successfully maintained. Justice on the other hand, is exactly what the establishment of law making bodies are trying to achieve the equal and same treatment of all individuals based on righteousness, ethics, and morality.... This is an example where someone obtained justice, as fairness in this case is defined by the victim of an unjust crime. Of Thomas MannпїЅs Tonio KroegerAnd Albert Camus s The Stranger Thomas Mann s Tonio Kroeger and Albert Camus s The Stranger Introduction The literary characters of Meursault and Tonio Kroeger are likely depicted as outsiders in the novels The Stranger by Albert Camus and Tonio Kroeger by Thomas Mann. The novels can both be described as existentialist investigations. In the school of philosophy, existentialism seeks to investigate the relationship between individuals and the society, the meaning of life, and the unavoidable conflicts in interpersonal relationships among other inquisitions (Sleasman, 2014). Existentialism is evident in the two novels under review as the characters are treated as outsiders. Albert Camus The Stranger The concept of the outsider is demonstrated by the two lead characters namely Meursault and Tonio Kroeger. In The Stranger, Meursault is depicted as an outsider both in himself as well as the society as owing to his criminal tendencies as he battles to show emotions and link with realities regarding his life (Sleasman, 2014). Meursault is depicted as much disconnected to the current world and life either emotionally or socially. For instance, the opening scene shows how Meursault reacts to his mother s death. His lack of remorse and loss is both salient and borders on the pathological. The first step is to die, as we believe that Saints are in heaven with God. This means at some point after thier death, word of mouth from someone who knew the potential saint, or a member of the religous community asks their local bishop to begin the cause for canonization. As soon as the bishop agrees, the potential Saint receives the title, Servant Of God. Next, a formal review is undertaken, guided by historians and theologians; the bishop may decide to send the cause to Rome, at the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. This department determines if the potential saint has shown heroic sanctity in their lifetime, worthy of imitation. To illustrate my point, did they live a life marked by virtuous actions? The original context of Silhouette was an indirectly stated and strong outcry that persuaded the reader to openly view the injustice towards blacks, in this case the event of hanging a black man. The region for which we accept the null hypothesis is called the critical region and the area underneath the curve that corresponds to the critical region is known as the level of confidence. Hence, we can develop a confidence interval for which we can see the lowest and highest point of the critical region. Any observed sample mean that lies outside of this confidence interval (outside the critical region) would cause us to reject the null hypothesis in favor of the alternative hypothesis. The area of the rejection region is known as the level of significance and represents type I error (alpha) corresponding to the probability that a true null hypothesis is rejected (as opposed to type II error beta; the probability of accepting a false null hypothesis). This film won multiple Oscars and countless other awards that prove it to be an extremely impressive work for its time. The setting of this film sets the stage, the themes and symbolism add interest, and the characterization only enhances an already impressive work. These elements and many more are what make up this incredible film. This film is set in the 1940 s in the bustling city of New Orleans. A majority of the scenes take place within the walls of the Kowalski s two room home. The size of the home is something that Blanche comments on right away and it adds tension to many scenes throughout the film. The constant quarrelling between the characters often make the house feel even smaller than it is. It offered little privacy, with only a curtain to divide the rooms, and the characters often went back and forth between the rooms quickly, sometimes several times in one scene. The setting is much like one that would be used for a play. It was very two dimensional and only offered a straight on view. The upstairs home that belonged to Steve and Eunice played an important role at two specific points in the movie. Though it was directly above the Kowalski s, it often goes without mention. While tax arbitrage is often legal, many stakeholders have serious ethical and legal reservations about a firm s tax avoidant behaviors. Investors are becoming increasingly aware of the regulatory and reputational risks encountered in secretive low taxjurisdictions. While sporadic data leaks such as the Panama Papers can potentially influence how the actions of a MNE are viewed, leaked information is often suddenly available, incomplete, or not comparable to other companies operating in the same industry or country, potentially leading to cognitive overload. Country by country reporting (CBCR) represents an alternative to these disclosure practices and better guarantees that sufficient taxes are paid in the locations where profits are generated. CBCR provides consistent jurisdiction based, profit and tax information without regard to significance thresholds or management reporting preferences. Specifically, CBCR guidelines would require firms to provide country specific information regarding the nature of corporate activities, net assets, profit before income tax, income tax accrued and paid, accumulated earnings, and the number of employees. Tax fairness campaigners, including the Tax Justice Network and Publish What You Pay, contend that the jurisdiction based data is of pivotal value to many stakeholder interests and would be utilized to enhance the stakeholder decisions of current and potential investors, consumers, employees, regulatory agencies, governments, and other concerned parties. Describe how the structures of different polymers relate to their function? Polymers a large molecules made up of a chain of smaller molecules, known as monomers. The monomers that a polymer is made up of decide its structure and therefore it s function. These monomers are linked and coiled in a very specific manor giving the polymer a specific tertiary structure (an extensively coiled and linked polymer chain caused as a result of the formation of more bonds forming). This tertiary structure is crucial to the function of a polymer as it denotes the necessary shape of the complementary molecule. This is easier explained through an example. An example of a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Haemoglobin is just one of the many possible forms and functions of a protein polymer. They all have different structures, which makes them specialised to carry out a particular function. For example enzymes. They are roughly spherical in shape due to the tight folding of the polypeptide chains. Enzymes play important roles in most biological processes, in particular metabolism and synthesis. The tertiary structure of an enzyme is of particular importance to its function and a slight change in the chain sequence and therefore it s shape can result in it becoming inactive. Enzymes work by combining with a substrate to form an enzyme substrate complex, the substrate is then broken down and released. Each enzyme has a particular substrate that is can breakdown, this will be the substrate with the complimentary structure to that of the active site of the enzyme. For example starch is only broken down by amylase. As the shape of the active site depends on the shape of the polymer shape so does the over all function of the enzyme. Antibodies are involved in the immune response. They re made up of two light polypeptide chains and two heavy polypeptide chains bonded together. Antibodies have a variable region which acts in a similar way to the active site of an enzyme. Each antibody has a variable region that is the complementary shape for a particular antigen and ... The Fantastik cleaners are the only ones on the market that are 100% safe for the environment. With such a competitive advantage over their competitors, they have to be able to bridge this communication gap they currently have with consumers, because many of them are unaware of Fantastik s triple bottom line goals. In order to help build brand awareness, they have to advertise more to their target segments. But one of the issues is Fantastik s advertising budget has decreased from $1,375,000 in 2005 to $825,000 in 2006. Fantastik also has the problem of lacking diversity in their product line. Although they have five different cleaners, all of them are fairly similar and many consumers would not be able to tell their differences other than the price. • 47. Lao Tzu Qualities Jean Christo Marintchev Professor Vaez English 103 24 September 2017 The Qualities of a Leader The qualities of one s leaders play a vital role in determining the success or failure of a society. Virtuous leaders let a nation succeed when its at its greatest peril. The effectiveness of the leader allows the nation to be great and the fulfill their mission. Over the years, the view on what an effective government is has changed. In the 6th Century China, a Philosopher named Lao Tzu saw an effective government as one that used war last, that the ideal form of governing is to have minimal effect on peoples lives. In the 13th Century Italy, Machiavelli, a diplomat and philosopher, advised that the prince should be well versed in the art of war, and should exercise qualities and laws that bring them praise so their position is not disputed. While both views seem to be extreme of a spectrum it will be clear the Machiavelli s Prince is the better leader for the modern society. On the Subject of war and conflict, Lao Tzu deems it a last resort as it leads to suffering no matter the outcome. When a country goes counter to the Tao, warheads are stockpiled outside the cities. (Kindle Locations 1934 1935) Lao Tzu here is stating that once we stray from the ideal path, pain and suffering will follow. Fear is the greatest enemy and is what leads to conflict. It is once a person finds pleasure in war, they lose themselves and are no longer his idea of the ideal man and is instead a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
