UNICEF Challenges
Introduction
Alfred Nobel once said, If you could only understand that we can help a human being without any
ulterior motive. Mr Nobels words echos a sentiment of the the Declaration of the Rights of the Child
or by another name, the Geneva Declaration of the Rights of children. It was adopted by the United
Nations in 1959. This worthy goal to protect children must be carried by people that can fulfill that
purpose and reach into the world, where many need help. UNICEF is that program. (UNCF) UNICEF
or United Nations Internationals Children Emergency Fund has a duty to help make the world a better
place. It is vital to understand what UNICEF is, its origins, the type of problems they face and how
they help. It is also essential to look at challenges they have and how they can improve as an
organization.
History of UNICEF UNICEF had its origins in 1946. It was 3 men who played an essential role,
Former President Herbert Hoover, Maurice Pate, an American business man, later the first executive
director of UNICEF. Ludwik Rajchman, an advocate for global health.
By 1947, Pate set up an office in D.C. He assembled a team and built networks in Europe and
recruited staff from the League of Nations. It took only 8 months to get approval for UNICEF to
support programs for Albania,Austria, China, Finland and a few others . (Jolly, 12)
Its first program focused on establishing feeding programs and provided 4.5 million children a daily
meal in 30,000 locations in 12 countries. It

Technological Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Spanish
Technological Advantages The Spanish forces that arrived in Mexico with Cortes numbered five
hundred and eight and were staggeringly outnumbered by the Mexica Empire. However, these Spanish
forces held a number of technological advantages that helped counter this numerical disadvantage.
Three technological advantages that were particularly important to the Spanish success were steel,
gunpowder and horses. These three thigs gave the Spanish an advantage in both offensive and
defensive capabilities. They also served as a major psychological blow to the Mexica forces. The first
technological advantage held by the Spanish was the use of steel weapons which proved far more
capable than the indigenous weaponry. The Spanish were equipped with steel swords, lances and other
weapons. These weapons provided the Spanish with a tool that was both faster than the indigenous
weapons and more capable of cutting through cloth armors. This gave the Spanish the ability to
quickly and easily kill the indigenous warriors. On the other hand, the primary weaponry used by the
indigenous peoples were arrows, two handed swords with stone edges, lances and thrown stones.
These weapons were both slower than the Spanish weapons and were much less effective at cutting
into the Spaniards despite the fact that the Spanish wore similar armor to the indigenous warriors. This
advantage was both known and fully utilized by Cortes, who attempted to further increase the
defenses of his men by ordering his men to pay particular attention to wearing effective armor on the
head, neck and legs which had proven to be weak points in the Spanish armor. This advantage in
defenses was fully illustrated in the earlier battles with the warriors from Tlaxcala wherein the Spanish
forces faced over three thousand warriors. In this conflict, according to Bernal Diaz, the Spanish faced
a hail of arrows, stones and javelins before fighting at close range with the far more numerous
Tlaxcalan warriors. The result of this battle was the death of a single Spaniard and the injuring of
sixty, many of which were still able to continue fighting relatively unimpeded. This ability of the
Spaniards to quickly cut through the enemy while simultaneously only taking minor

Jewish Returning Home Essay
For the survivors, returning to life as it had been before the Holocaust was impossible. Jewish
communities no longer existed in much of Europe. When people tried to return to their homes from
camps or hiding places, they found that, in many cases, their homes had been looted or taken over by
others.
Returning home was also dangerous. After the war, anti Jewish riots broke out in several Polish cities.
The largest anti Jewish pogrom took place in July 1946 in Kielce, a city in southeastern Poland. When
150 Jews returned to the city, people living there feared that hundreds more would come back to
reclaim their houses and belongings. Age old antisemitic myths, such as Jews ritual murders of
Christians, arose once again. After a rumor spread ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There they waited to be admitted to places like the United States, South Africa, or Palestine. At first,
many countries continued their old immigration policies, which greatly limited the number of refugees
they would accept. The British government, which controlled Palestine, refused to let large numbers
of Jews in. Many Jews tried to enter Palestine without legal papers, and when caught some were held
in camps on the island of Cyprus, while others were deported back to Germany. Great Britain s
scandalous treatment of Jewish refugees added to international pressures for a homeland for the
Jewish people. Finally, the United Nations voted to divide Palestine into a Jewish and Arab state.
Early in 1948, the British began withdrawing from Palestine. On May 14, 1948, one of the leading
voices for a Jewish homeland, David Ben Gurion, announced the formation of the State of Israel. After
this, Jewish refugee ships freely landed in the seaports of the new nation. The United States also
changed its immigration policy to allow more Jewish refugees to enter.
Although many Jewish survivors were able to build new lives in their adopted countries, many non
Jewish victims of Nazi policies continued to be persecuted in Germany. Laws which discriminated
against Roma (Gypsies) continued to be in effect until 1970 in some parts of the

The Nearly Fatal Snow Caving Trip Essay
The Nearly Fatal Snow Caving Trip
Sharp pains shooting through muscles, trying to avoid sleep, hypothermia set in on an Antarctic ice
crevasse researcher. I had the opportunity to go snow caving with my brother, Josh. I was confident in
my winter backcountry skills and anticipated a memorable trip. I did not know what I was getting into.
Growing colder day by day, winter became more dominant. Deep snow made travel difficult. To
navigate through this terrain, I would have to wear special equipment. There are a few ways to travel
over snow: snowmobiles, cross country skis, and snowshoes. The uneven terrain and fresh powder
called for snowshoes. Along with shoes, winter camping requires many other types of gear.
To cope with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I recommended to my brother that he should put his snowshoes on before his pack. Climbing over the
hardened, plowed up wall of snow, we began our journey.
Beginning at a popular cross country ski trail, the traveling was enjoyably easy. Crunching the
hardened snow with each step and occasionally meandering off the trail and atop the soft snow, my
confidence towered. Distancing ourselves from the car, we passed many pine trees, whose branches
and needles would sway in the wind like bowing Chinese men. I sensed the wind whistling through
the trees, carrying the light, dry snow across my rosy, wind blown cheeks and burrowing between my
neck and shirt collar. In addition, the wind would create beautiful structures of snow, snowdrifts of
every size and shape. Remarkable curves and textures created a landscape like a foreign frozen world.
At this point, the ski trail dwindled to nothing, so we began to break our own trail. After several
demanding hours of trail breaking, we were sweating heavily. The once bone chilling wind had
become a blessing with our now unzipped parkas. We questioned the validity of traveling further.
We had passed many gigantic snowdrifts and possible campsites, but now tired and anxious we began
searching for the ultimate site for our snow cave. Finally, siding a cliff the snow looked deep with easy
access. The evergreen trees, with low lying branches created bowls around their bases. This area of

Research Paper On Mount Olympus
There was a place high up in the sky called Mount Olympus which is located right above the tallest
mountain in the world. This is where all the gods and their children lived. Ezra lived with her father,
Philip, and her boyfriend, Hercules. Hercules and Ezra had been forced to marry, even though Ezra
did not like the idea. Ezra was treated the best by the gods because of her beauty and humans, or
mortals, who were not gods, also loved her. At this time, the gods were all split because of a big
argument they had. Some gods, like Cynthia, Adonis, and Beza thought that the gods should start to
bring up mortals to turn them into gods and they can live on Mount Olympus. The other gods like
Philip, Devin, and Zoe thought that only the gods living ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Examples Of Syntax In Mrs Dalloway
Stifled Expression Post Rifle Aggression The syntax of Mrs. Dalloway consists mainly of loose
sentences which progress at an irregular pace. Important information is often merely touched upon,
and then abandoned in favor of an anecdote. The lack of structural variation from the complex multi
clause sentences in pivotal moments of the novel parallels the inability of the characters to express
their socially taboo traits by neglecting to syntactically emphasize their controversial characteristics.
Modern culture is intolerant of homosexuality; consequently, Clarissa Dalloway addresses her
intimate moments with Sally Seton in the same syntax with which she addresses everyday
occurrences. Clarissa remembers what she claims is the most exquisite ... Show more content on

Modern culture holds soldiers to a high standard of emotional fortitude. They are expected to emerge
from war triumphantly and confidently, but this notion is far from reality. Septimus Warren Smith is a
shell shocked veteran, suffering from post war thunder claps of fear, who criticizes the apathy of
modernist society. He is incapable of communicating his troubles to those who are enthralled with
modern culture (87). Lucrezia notes that the English are so silent, however this silence is not defined
as the absence of speech, it refers to the absence of substance (88). The English are capable of speech
and yet incapable of transmitting significance. The loose sentence structure and the rambling form
underline Septimus s inability to efficiently broadcast his thoughts. The repetition of the phrase he
could not remember it, reiterates the inability of Septimus to express his very complex emotions (98).
The war has made him so lost within his own thoughts that he cannot clearly conclude how to begin to
convey the anguish associated with the loss of Evans. The anxiety caused by the lack of catharsis
builds up within Septimus. This intense depth of emotion directly contrasts the shallow understanding
of society. The modern lifestyle and technology consume the common people of London

Sex Offenders Against Children are an Epidemic Overrunning...
With the creation of computers and Internet, high tech crimes are occurring more frequently than few
decades ago. According to a report made by the U.S. Department of Justice; one in five children (10 to
17 years old) receives unwanted sexual solicitations online (Knetzger Muraski, 2008). One of this
online sex crime against children is known as child enticement. The Florida statute 847.0135 states
that an individual is involved in online child enticement when [...] utilizes a computer on line service,
Internet service, or [...] to seduce, solicit, lure, or entice, or attempt to [...] a child or another person
believed by a person to be a child to commit any illegal act [...] relating to sexual battery [...]
(Knetzger Muraski, 2008). Therefore, online sex crime investigators must use the appropriate
protocols during an investigation to avoid a lawful criminal defense based on law enforcement
entrapment. One of the best approaches to identify, prosecute, and arrest on line sex offenders (i.e.
pedophiles) is to be actively engage in the online chat rooms (i.e. online enticement sting). In here,
high tech crime investigators must follow up a protocol. First, he/she must create an identity to look
like an underage individual. In the chat transcript provided for the case study, the undercover officer

Persuasive Essay On Emerging Adulthood
Despite some young adults are privileged and may not have to worry as much about issues of the real
world. Several of other young adults are growing up slowly and are not completing milestones that
were common at their age in past generations. Emerging adulthood is beneficial to young adults and
should be more supported by others because having emerging adulthood would give young adults
more time to have identity exploration, it helps give young adults more self focus, and it helps to
understand what the real world really is and the issues that come. Initially, emerging adulthood is
helpful because young adults have more time to find their identity. In the article, the Arnett talks about
the importance of identity exploration: a few of these, especially identity exploration, are part of
adolescence too, but they take on new depth and urgency in the 20s (Henig, 200). Arnett is implying
that the stage of emerging adulthood plays a major part in finding who the person is. Coming into
adulthood a person can feel rushed into adulthood and not fully grasp who they are and what they
want or like to do with their life. This feeling is felt even as a teenager. Having the extra time to
explore who they are can only benefit the person and ease the transition into adulthood. Arnett
emphasizes the urgency on how beneficial finding a person s true self. The stakes are higher when
people are approaching the age when options tend to close off and lifelong commitments must be

Gender Roles Of Women Before World War II
Before World War II, women were typically seen as wives and mothers. A majority of jobs were saved
for men and it was very uncommon for a woman to have a job that was outside of the house,
especially if they were married. The need to prepare for war was so strong that political and social
leaders agreed that both women and men have to change their perceptions of gender roles at least as
long as there was a national emergency ( Changing Images 1). America s view on the woman was
about to entirely change. Women were about to change the typical stereotype and prove to men that
they could do anything they could.
With men getting drafted into the war, there was a huge need to fill their jobs. Women began to take

William Blake s Poem The Schoolboy
Many writers construct natural imagery by deploying figurative language throughout their work.
Natural imagery is a prominent feature in the works of William Blake, particularly in his 1789 poem
The Schoolboy published in the poetry collection Songs of Innocence . He explores the theme of
restriction and how freedom can be found in the natural setting, also demonstrating how human
identity can be influenced by these worlds. Blake s own perception of restriction due to education, and
love of imagination and creativity, becomes an undertone of his social commentary. The impact of
vivid imagery is further explored in D. H. Lawrence s 1922 novella The Fox . The juxtaposition
between natural and domestic worlds is examined through literary devices such as metaphor and
symbolism to comment upon the way in which nature can impact identity and relationships. In
contrast, Lawrence further uses domestic imagery in comparison with description of the natural world
to highlight the internal conflict of characters such as March and Henry.
Throughout The Schoolboy there is a clear sense of conflict between the restriction of formal learning
and the freedom that nature can allow. It could be argued that this theme extends into the form of the
poem, with the use of quintain stanzas being unusual during the romantic period perhaps Blake was
consciously going against the traditional conventions of poetry. According to Marshall Brown Blake
assaulted all the canons of

Who Was Responsible For The Triangle Fire
The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire happened on March 25, 1911. The Triangle Fire is remembered as one of
the most tragic workplace incidents in the history of Industrial America. This tragic fire killed 146
female factory workers, some as young as age 15. During this time there was many problems with
sweatshops and unsafe working conditions, this fire proved those problems to be true. The Triangle
Shirtwaist Company was owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris. The company was started by Blanck
and Harris in 1900. Their company occupied the top three floors (8,9,10) of the Asch Building in
Manhattan. Each floor of their company had hundreds of girls at sewing machines, the floors were

The building had four elevators to reach the factory floors, however, in 1911 only one of those four
elevators were functional, workers also had to file down a long narrow hallway to reach it. In addition
to those elevators there were two stairways down. One of those stairways was unlocked. The other
stairway down was locked from the outside. The building also had a fire escape, but it was very
narrow and couldn t get that many people down it fast enough. With what happened on the Triangle
Fire of 1911, Max Blanck and Isaac Harris should be blamed for the tragic aftermath and so many
women dead with the fire. Their punishment for 146 females dying was very inadequate. Seeming
how they did not take the proper safety precautions and their factory was not up to city codes. Blanck
and Harris did not get charged of manslaughter or anything for the 146 females dying in this fire,
though they definitely should have. There had been strikes in years before about better working
conditions and more safe precautions in the factory. One reporter that was an eyewitness to the fire
said, I remembered their great strike of last year, in which these girls demanded more sanitary
workrooms, and more safety precautions in the shops. These dead bodies told the results. 1 The
workers wanted safer conditions the year before, so much so that they went on strike. Nothing
changed through this strike and the worst thing happened, the unsafe conditions killed 146

Why On Earth Violet
Why on earth, Violet?
Stewart O nan wrote the short story Why on earth, Violet in 1997. The story is about the
misconception, misinterpretation and misjudgment between children and grown up. It is about how the
adults/grown up misunderstood the children s concern and it always ends in frustration in grownups.
The grownups or her parents misunderstand her gesture.
The narrator and main character is Violet, which feels like we almost can feel what she can see from
her eyes. The text doesn t tell how old Violet is but we can clearly hear that she is just a child. For
example when she saw an old and got scared, then she suddenly hides behind her mother s legs. She is
an innocent and very honest girl. She doesn t really say a lot, but ... Show more content on

They go to the church and even the story started where they were going to church. The mother also
went to the priest to get some advice about Violet. In the sentence Why on earth, Violet? What could
have compelled you? The father indirectly tells that Violet couldn t have done this by herself, and
again a demon must have been possessed her. It clearly shows that the father is not just an ordinary
Christian.
The main story shows us the difference between children and grown ups. We can determine the major
theme of the text in a different way. The text can define in a very religious way where it we can see
how religious belief can manipulate anyone in a very bad way so easy. On the other side without these
beliefs, we can also just look at this as it like the upbringing and the relationship between the children
and adults. Which as I said before again, they can both misunderstand each other so easy and can cost

can be related to waste disposal, land disposal of solid waste and brine disposal from the petroleum
industry.

Brine requires proper disposal which many times require permits or other regulatory compliance

disposal has many methods such as sewer discharge, deicing agent, evaporation pond, and surface

of biological oxygen demand, and concentration of total suspended solids. Brine underflow slows
down along the bay bottoms, limiting oxygen transport to the sediments.
To sum up, groundwater contamination can be related to waste disposal, land disposal of solid waste,
and brine disposal from the petroleum industry. Over 50% of the United States population depends on

was hit and killed instantly by a speeding car two evenings ago. She had run out into the middle of the
street for unknown reasons when the death car hit her. The car was allegedly a yellow or green color
and was guessed to be traveling around 40 miles per hour when it hit Myrtle. This car was coming
from New York; it swerved a little but did not stop when passing Wilson s garage in East Egg. Wilson
himself could hardly gain composure after the accident. A few witnesses had seen what happened and
gave their testimonies to a local police officer. Bang, was the sound the body and yellow car made
when it made contact with the car, one witness said. There were no known suspects or motives at the
time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wilson had supposedly found out that Jay Gatsby was the owner of the death car. Wilson found his
way to Gatsby s house around noon and saw Jay Gatsby relaxing in his pool. Wilson shot Gatsby and
then shot himself a little ways away in Gatsby s yard. Their bodies were discovered about an hour
later. Gatsby was quite wealthy and well known in Long Island, as he had extravagant parties almost
every Saturday night. Only one man, Nick Carraway, has come forward to answer any questions about
Gatsby. He has said a funeral will be held for Gatsby sometime next week. Nick s last comment was
that, Gatsby made an impact in my life and he would ve done great things if his life wasn t taken so

Will Social Security Exist In The Future
There are a lot of opinions on how or even if social security will exist in the future. In past years,
leading to today there have been many issues, causing everyone to worry about the future funding of
social security. The federal government needs to make changes on how social security is being
handled before it is to late and no retirees will be getting social security benefits. Below I discuss
several options that have been proposed to help the Social Security Trust Fund to get back to being
stable.
Every passing year, the amount of taxes we are paying for social security will not be able to cover a
lot of benefits and it will keep diminishing if nothing is done. The cash flow deficit from social
security also contributes to the public debt, due to the fact that the tax revenues will not be enough to
cover the expense. In the past when social security has an excess of cash flow, the federal government
would use the surplus for other federal spending, so in return it would credit the Social security trust
fund by issuing special government securities. The more debit the federal government piles up, the
worst the social security benefits will be for the current as well as the future retirees.
The unfunded liability for social security will just keep growing, and getting worse if something is not
done. One of the options that have been discussed, which can make a difference, is fixing the cost of
living adjustment (COLA). The COLA is based on an obsolete measure of

Highly Effective Teachers
Assignment #1: The 7 Habits of Highly Affective Teachers.
A. Please read the article attached by Rick Wormeli and answer the following questions:
1. Give an example of how you are cultivating perspectives and reframing your teachers. If you are
not an administrator, how are you doing this with your students.
As an instructional coach for our special education teachers working with students who have autism, I
spend a portion of my time supporting early career special education teachers by just being fully
present and listening to their frustrations. Their frustrations are often not based on facts but their
interpretation of events. Those negative interpretations can kill early teachers love of teaching. In
coaching, I ensure I truly understand their concerns by paraphrasing their frustrations and then
reframing those statements using a more proactive perspective from which we can begin
brainstorming potential solutions.

Essay On Juan Peron And Eva Peron

Juan and Eva Peron Seventy two years later and the effects of Peronism are still present in the
Argentinian society. The roots of Peronism can be traced back to Juan Peron, a military general and
later on the President of Argentina. Him, along with his wife Eva Peron, left an imprint on the
Argentinian society with their radical changes in politics involving government aid to the poor and the
minority. The legacy of Juan Peron started before he became president. In the early 1940s Peron
joined the United Officer s Group, a secret group formed in Argentina with the sole purpose of
overthrowing the current fraudulent government and placing one of their military generals in power.
Peron played a key role in this military coup and during Edelmiro Farrell s presidency, Peron became
the Minister of War, Secretary of Labour and Vice President. Peron s political ideology was formed
from his army training delegation in Germany and Italy. There, he was able to study the works of
Benito Mussolini and the fascist government. He immediately became fascinated with the fascist
government and the power Mussolini had over the people. Instead of trying to implement that sme
government in argentina, Peron sought ways to improve upon the mistakes of Mussolini s
government. Peron s political ideology should not be viewed as fascist but rather as Justicialism.
Justicialism involved aid to the working class while not becoming part of capitalism or

Compare And Contrast Evolution And Creationism
Evolutionism vs. Creationism
Group K Special Topics Assignment # 3
Evolution refers to descent with modification and how populations of organisms change overtime. The
idea was first popularized by Charles Darwin, but had been a theory before his time as well. In order
for evolution to take place, the mechanisms must make very slow changes to organisms that happen
over time. Most evolutionists believe that the earth was created over a long period of time and is about
5 billion years old. This enables many changes over slow periods of time to occur just as the theory of
evolution suggests. Through natural selection, adaptations are created that benefit the survival of a
species. These adaptations, which factor into natural selection, can only be achieved through
mutations that can be carried on to offspring. Scientists attempt to prove the theory of evolution
through fossil evidence, scientific records, and through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each individual has his or her own ideas and thoughts that may not correspond exactly to the main
ideas within evolution or creationism. Both creationism and evolutionism are present in many cultures
and religious affiliations. A very popular belief among modern individuals is that the ideas of both
evolution and creationism are where our origins arise. One of the more admired forms of this idea is
that god created the earth and life on earth from matter, but some higher power is also the mechanism
of evolution and that god intervenes in actions on earth by deciding the fate of certain species (god
creates mutations). This belief is known by most as theistic evolution. There are various other theories
present in both the religious and scientific community that try to connect the ideas of evolution with
biblical texts and ideas. The debate behind evolution vs. creationism is all about people trying to
figure out the origin of life and where everything came to

Enchiladas Research Paper
Anytime I m preparing a meal I check my kitchen to make sure I have everything I need. To make
beef enchiladas I will need, beef, enchilada sauce, corn tortillas, shredded cheese, cubed cheese, green
chile, 2 cans of mexican style tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, jalapenos, not to mention rice and beans
for our sides. First, I chop up the onions, bell peppers and jalapenos. When that is finished I take out
the skillet and turn the heat on high. Put all the chopped vegetables in the skillet, add beef, and let it
cook until the beef has browned. Once the meat is done, I pour a can of mexican style tomatoes and
green chile in, turn down the heat and let simmer.
Next, I take out three pots for the enchilada sauce, charro beans, and mexican rice. In one of the pots I
m going to pour in the rice in, add butter, set the heat and stir until all the butter is almost melted then
add 2 cups of water and let boil for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. In the other pot I can put the
charro beans in and let cook on low heat. While those are cooking I m going to heat up the enchilada
sauce in the small pot to start dipping the corn tortillas in. After that I roll them up with beef and 2 1/2
cubes of cheese in each tortilla then place them in a cassarole dish. I can fit about 16 in one dish.
When I m done rolling all the tortillas I get a bag of shredded cheese and smother it all on top of the
tortillas. Then I put the dish in the oven on 350 for about 15 to 20 minutes. Now I go back to my rice
and pour in the other can of mexican style tomatoes in while stirring it all together. Let simmer for
five more minutes until I remove it from the heat to let cool off. ... Show more content on

Christopher s mother sent Christopher. He also lied to Christopher about his mother, telling
Christopher that she died of a heart attack. Even though the things Ed did look evil and bad hearted, he
did it out of love. Just like he killed Wellington, Mrs. Shears dog, because he loved her and she
rejected him, and Ed got out of control. Ed lied and hid the letters from Christopher because
Christopher, being a person with special needs, did not feel sad and take the divorce and separation of

The Icf Brief Core Set For Hl
The novel approach used in this investigation, the validity of the ICF Brief Core Set for HL has been
confirmed, supported the pilot studies results, and one category is being suggested to be added.
Thereby, a statistically validated version of the ICF Brief Core Set is proposed and could be used as
essential tool to capture factors leading to increase the likelihood of hearing disability and
socioemotional isolation among older adults with and without HL.
Overall, three methods (linking, self reported, and proposed model of standardized outcome measures)

In the second pilot study we estimated the effect of global and specific cognitive functions in
restricting participation in daily life activities. The Self Reported ICF Brief Core Set Scale for HL in
its simple and initial version, obviously, reveals that memory and hearing dysfunctions and inability to
listen and communicate effectively were the major problems that limit and restrict participation in
social interactions followed by attention deficits, temperament and personality, emotional problems,
and sensation of tinnitus. These finding were verified and confirmed by the standardized outcome
measures. In regards to the environmental factors, it is interesting that the majority of the participants
rated background noise and loud sound as barriers, while majority rated family support, family
attitude, and social attitude as facilitators that have a relevant influence on functioning. For older
adults HA users, the majority rated HAs use as facilitators, however, few reported HAs use as barriers.

Heating And Climate Change Uk
Heating plays a major role in providing a comfortable environment for its occupants.
Various new legislations from UK Government and EU standards have been raised for lower energy
consumption and lower greenhouse gas emissions to meet stated demands. Up until now the
construction industry has been introducing new products in order to meet the lower energy targets.
Also the technological developments has given the opportunity to the manufacturers to produce highly
efficient heat emitters. These will help reduce overall energy consumption and also will help to
achieve a reduced carbon emission. In the UK, Domestic heating contributes to around 20% of total
carbon emissions. (J Douglas 2015,p4) The report published in July 2015 by Department of Energy
and climate change UK (DECC) indicate that the total energy consumed by domestic sector around
27%. Space heating and water heating in the United Kingdom consumes around 60% of the total
energy used by the building sector. More than half of the money spent on fuel bills in a typical
household goes into providing heating (Energy serving trust).
Increasing fuel prices and inefficient heating systems are the main sources of fuel poverty. A report
published by Daily mail newspaper indicates that more than 2700 people are dying in England and
Wales due to fuel poverty. (S.Poulter, 2011) Building designers and building services engineers have

Motivational Theories The Disney Company encourages communication throughout the organization,
and this communication is what helps to make a strong organizational culture. A few motivational
theories are effective in the Disney Company s culture. Psychologist Frederick Herzberg proposed the
two factor theory otherwise known as motivation hygiene theory. This theory believes an individual s
relationship to work is basic and that attitude toward work can very well determine success or failure
(Robbins Judge, 2011). This theory is one for the Walt Disney Company. The founder Walt Disney s
attitude toward the company from the beginning was to bring happiness to everyone that has any parts
of the company. A happy founder gives off a chain reaction and therefore gives the company happy
employees and customers. Employee s are happy and have job satisfaction shows it through his or her
positivity and it reflects in one s job performance. Another motivational theory is a goal setting theory
that the Disney Company uses to motivate their employees. A goal setting theory is a theory that says
that specific and difficult goals with feedback, lead to higher performance (Robbins Judge, 2011). The
Disney Company has many projects going on at one time so setting goals keep the employees
motivated to do their jobs. The Disney Company also can use the reinforcement theory that states that
behavior is a function of its consequence. The Disney Company offers great

Literary Explication Of Acquainted With The Night
Literary Explication of Acquainted with The Night In the poem Acquainted with The Night by Robert
Frost, the speaker of the poem has walked around at night a lot in his life. He has walked away and
back to somewhere in the rain. He has walked in the city and beyond, perhaps out of the city. He has
been down the lonely dark streets. He walks by a watchman, but did not look because he did not want
to have to give an explanation of what he was doing there. He has stopped to listen to a voice calling
out from another street, hoping that is was someone that was looking for him. The speaker looks up at
a luminary clock , which is the moon, but was not very satisfied with the time that it has shown. He
ends up referring to the first line of the poem, he has been acquainted with the night. Robert Frost uses
symbolism, setting, and the speaker himself to tell the story of the man who has been acquainted with
the night. The first literary element used in Acquainted with The Night is symbolism. Darkness and
light are used in the poem, more being the lack of light. The poem could be seen as a metaphor of
depression and loneliness. Even though it is night time, the moon still reaches the streets, a symbol of
hope. The first line establishes the setting of the poem, I have been ... Show more content on

Raskolnikov, in the novel, acted on his first instinct that he so much tough of and will not give it up.
He could justify his actions by thinking of him as being above the law or as he calls himself
extraordinary, which means to be on a position that is morally acceptable to act upon, since the
barriers that unify society seem to be irrational and therefore destructible. Raskolnikov can be said to
be thinking as a utilitarian, who thinks that the actions he takes will benefit everyone else even if what
they do may not seem as morally acceptable. It can also be said that it is promoting to take actions
influenced by our own free will, instead of moral rules, which can work sometimes, because us
humans can transcend any barrier created by traditional morality by denying it or giving it a different
meaning, however If people do not make wise decisions based upon the morality of society, then the
future of society is sure to suffer (wordks.dokland). Raskolnikov was right and wrong in his view of
morality, he was wrong in overlooking the pros and cons of society and thinking that reasoning will

Affirmitive Action Essay
Affirmative Action is the name given to programs that try to correct past and ongoing discriminations
against women, racial minorities, and others in the work force and in education. The principal goal of
Affirmative Action is to create more diversity and equal opportunities in jobs or schools that used to
be all or mostly male, white, or both. Affirmative Action programs have been in place only a little over

Another growing concern is white male candidates are being discriminated against, or losing out
because of affirmative action programs.
If we were to look at the breakdown of various white collar professions or if we look at the overall
average income levels of white men we should immediately notice that people of color are still
significantly under represented and underpaid in every category. People of color don t make up the
proportions of these jobs even remotely equal to their percentage of the population. They don t earn
wages comparable to white men. White men are tremendously over represented in almost any
category of work that is highly rewarded except for professional athletics. According to a 1995
government report, white males make up only 29 percent of the workforce, but hold 95 percent of
senior management positions (Sklar 115). Until there is both equal opportunity and fair distribution of
education, training and advancement to all Americans, affirmative action for people of color is
necessary to counter the hundreds of years of affirmative action that have been directed at white
males.
Affirmative action is not a cure all. It will not eliminate racial discrimination, nor will it eliminate
competition for scarce resources. Affirmative action programs can only

Essay on The History of the Antiguan Girls High School
The history of the AGHS began in 1886, when an English couple a Mr. and Mrs. Williams, came to
Antigua, because of Mr. William s failing health. Mrs. Williams became the school s first
headmistress. After her husband died, she sent for her sister and together they shared the responsibility
of running the school. At this time the school had boarding facilities for local students, as well as
students from neighbouring Caribbean islands such as St. Kitts, Nevis, Montserrat, Dominica and
Grenada. In 1902 Mrs. Williams and Ms. Easie resigned and were succeeded by Ms. Simpson, who
served for two years. From 1905 to 1944 Misses Millicent and May Branch served as joint

headmistresses and interestingly one headmaster all be it briefly. Actually from 1886 to present this
school has had 16 headmistresses, 5 acting headmistresses and one acting headmaster. Over the years,
students of the A.G.H.S have excelled academically in external exams. With CXC they have obtained
many top awards. Some have been Island Scholars. We even had a Rhodes Scholar by way of Karen

our own Marissa Crump was Antigua s most outstanding female CXC student. In the area of creative

The Mating Intelligence Scale, And The Flirting Style Test...
Personality Portfolio Personality tests offer an opportunity to learn more about psychology and about
oneself. I have just completed the Jung type sorter, the Big five inventory, the mating intelligence
scale, and the flirting style test. I had taken both the Jungian Type Sorter and the Big Five Inventory
previously, but now have a better understanding what my scores mean. The Mating intelligence and
Flirting Styles tests were both novel to me, I enjoyed these two tests the most, but have doubts about
the accuracy of my responses to questions. Jungian Type Sorter My Jungian type was Extraverted,
Intuitive, Feeling, and Perceiving, or ENFP. Alternatively, INFP due to a low preference for
extraversion over introversion (3% vs 1% respectively). Reading through the descriptions of both
personality types I cannot say that either align terribly well with my own self judgement. The
experience is reminiscent of reading a horoscope; I can easily identify with about half of the claims
made, while a quarter are slightly off the mark, and the remaining are dead wrong. Considering though
that the descriptions must be written to encompass scorers at both extremes of the scales, this doesn t
necessarily indicate a lack of validity in the model itself. The website lists some famous ENFPs.
Assuming their assessments are valid, it is certainly gratifying to be likened to Mark Twain, a man
whose gruff compassion I have always admired. Buster Keaton, a childhood favorite of mine, is an

Eddie Carbone as a Tragic Hero in A View from the Bridge...
A View from the Bridge is a dramatic tragedy, which follows the life of a dockworker, Eddie Carbone,
in 1950s America who is the main focus of the play. He represents the average, everyday man in
society, but his character draws parallels to many tragic heroes in the past shown in Greek tragedies,
Shakespeare s plays, etc. (e.g. Hamlet and Macbeth). A tragic hero is the hero in the story who has
positive and negative traits and their negative traits is what eventually leads to the demise and this is
what happens to Eddie. Many fathers and uncles can relate to Eddie when they have to let go of their
children, but Eddie s tragic flaw is that his immature actions and selfish behaviour emphasises his
personal obsession of being in charge and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alfieri ends the play by telling the audience that he mourns Eddie and tries to present Eddie as an
innocent guy that has just followed his destiny. He also goes on to say that, every few years there is
still a case [like this] , further trying to make Eddie seem innocent.
At the beginning of the play, Eddie is portrayed as a sensible and smart character. Eddie and the girls
(Catherine and Beatrice) all have a requited respect for each other Beatrice: Mmm! You re an angel!
God ll bless you and there are no problems as such, even when the immigrants first come. He is also
respected by the community Alfieri: He was good a man as he had to be in life that was. But this
dominant respect that he gains is what he is very used to and the slight changes where Catherine finds
another man in her life and Beatrice also looks after the two immigrants (Rodolpho and Marco) effects
Eddie hugely. The respect that he becomes used to is now shared by the women in his life between the
men in his house and he craves for more attention. This can be considered one of his flaws that lead to
his downfall. He is also shown caring for Catherine in the beginning of the play. He can be seen as a
normal uncle or father Beatrice: She s got a job. Eddie: What job? She s gonna finish school. He is
also very proud of Catherine Sure she s the best... You look like a

Phonemic Awareness
Phonemic awareness is not phonics. Phonemic awareness is an understanding about spoken language.
Children who are phonemically aware can tell the teacher that bat is the word the teacher is
representing by saying the three separate sounds in the word. They can tell you all the sounds in the
spoken word dog. They can tell you that, if you take the last sound off cart you would have car.
Phonics on the other hand, is knowing the relation between specific, printed letters (including
combinations of letters) and specific, spoken sounds. You are asking children to show their phonics
knowledge when you ask them which letter make the first sound in bat or dog or the last sound in car
or cart. The phonemic awareness tasks that have predicted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Focusing on rimes rather than on vowels alone is particularly important in helping children learn to
decode words. (Adams, 1990)
Research shows that all proficient readers rely on deep and ready knowledge of spelling sound
correspondence while reading, whether this knowledge was specifically taught or simply inferred by
students. Conversely, failure to learn to use spelling/sound correspondences to read and spell words is
shown to be the most frequent and debilitating cause of reading difficulty. Many children learn to read
without any direct classroom instruction in phonics. But many children, especially children from
homes that are not language rich, do need more systematic instruction in word attack strategies. Well
sequenced phonics instruction early in the first grade has been shown to reduce the incidence of
reading difficulty even as it accelerates the growth of the class as a whole. Given this, it is probably
better to start all children, most especially in high poverty areas, with explicit phonics instruction.
Such an approach does require continually monitoring children s progress both to allow those who are
progressing quickly to move ahead before they become bored and to ensure that those who are having
difficulties get the assistance they need.
Sulzby and Teale (1991)

German History Essay
Most would agree that it is valuable to acknowledge history, whether it be through documentation,
education, or architectural preservation. However, history can be complex and ugly, stained by war,
genocide, and destruction. Therein lies a philosophical controversy: should these historical stains be
acknowledged or buried? What role do these ugly histories have in the development of a society?
Within the last century, no nation has been forced to confront these questions on the same scale that
Germany has (Levinger 118). With a twentieth century history marked by hatred and the abuse of
power, National Socialism and Soviet communism, Germany s dark history lies only decades in the
past. For this reason, these histories remain freshly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In essence, historic preservation roots collective memory in a physical, tangible space. To many
scholars, memory in this context is not simply information that is recalled and retold (qtd. in Till 11).
Instead, it is the act of continuously finding and contextualizing history by means of physical space.
Preservation of historical architecture is therefore unique, as it juxtaposes this history and memory
with the surrounding modern world. This highlights the importance of preserving history through
architecture, rather than museums, textbooks, and archives alone. By preserving the physical remnants
of a city s dark history, residents and passersby are forced to confront this history nondeliberately.
Moreover, according to Rudy J. Koshar, a preserved site must maintain some present value or purpose.
This is particularly relevant when considering the preservation of buildings or sites which represent a
history that is controversial or shameful, as it is important to balance the shame evoked by this space
with the benefits of its preservation.
The task of historic preservation is especially challenging in nations such as Germany which have
pasts that many are reluctant to remember. Germany is a particularly interesting case, as it is now
recognized as one of the most progressive, economically powerful, and politically liberal countries in
the world. Yet, no comparably modern country is

How To Build Suspense In Jaws
June 20th 1975, Hollywood director Steven Spielberg released Jaws to the public. This deep sea
thriller was based off the novel of the same name written by Peter Benchley in 1974 with a budget of
only seven million USD and was incredibly successful, grossing around 470.7 million USD. The
movie takes place in the fictional town of Amity. Everything is going well that is until a there is a
mysterious chain of disappearances, People are either found horribly mutilated or not found at all.
Sheriff Martin Brody is called on the scene and it s concluded that a man eating great white has been
stalking Amity s waters, eating anybody who crosses its path and it s now up to Brody and young
oceanographer Matt Hooper to deal with the shark.
Something to note in Jaws is how obscure the antagonist is, I mean it s teased here and there but it s
not necessarily revealed until later, this has to do with the climax. As the shark appears more
frequently, it s behavior becomes more sporadic and open until the showdown with the crew of the
orca then things really get crazy. (keep in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Williams has composed the most recognizable theme for famous movies such as Star Wars, Indiana
Jones and of course the fear inducing theme for Jaws.
We ve all heard it before, the iconic slow but noticeable buildup that gets more intense as whatever is
chasing out of your field of view gets closer. As for Spielberg it s apparent that his intention was to
tease the audience between each kill. When the shark attacks become more frequent and the kill count
rises later in the film, the tension is at an all time high. This is shown during one scene in which a
massive population enters the shark s water and the camera cuts to isolated individuals who would be
considered easy prey. In other words Steven gave us the old game I like to call who gon die

  • 2. UNICEF Challenges Introduction Alfred Nobel once said, If you could only understand that we can help a human being without any ulterior motive. Mr Nobels words echos a sentiment of the the Declaration of the Rights of the Child or by another name, the Geneva Declaration of the Rights of children. It was adopted by the United Nations in 1959. This worthy goal to protect children must be carried by people that can fulfill that purpose and reach into the world, where many need help. UNICEF is that program. (UNCF) UNICEF or United Nations Internationals Children Emergency Fund has a duty to help make the world a better place. It is vital to understand what UNICEF is, its origins, the type of problems they face and how they help. It is also essential to look at challenges they have and how they can improve as an organization. History of UNICEF UNICEF had its origins in 1946. It was 3 men who played an essential role, Former President Herbert Hoover, Maurice Pate, an American business man, later the first executive director of UNICEF. Ludwik Rajchman, an advocate for global health. By 1947, Pate set up an office in D.C. He assembled a team and built networks in Europe and recruited staff from the League of Nations. It took only 8 months to get approval for UNICEF to support programs for Albania,Austria, China, Finland and a few others . (Jolly, 12) Its first program focused on establishing feeding programs and provided 4.5 million children a daily meal in 30,000 locations in 12 countries. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Technological Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Spanish Technological Advantages The Spanish forces that arrived in Mexico with Cortes numbered five hundred and eight and were staggeringly outnumbered by the Mexica Empire. However, these Spanish forces held a number of technological advantages that helped counter this numerical disadvantage. Three technological advantages that were particularly important to the Spanish success were steel, gunpowder and horses. These three thigs gave the Spanish an advantage in both offensive and defensive capabilities. They also served as a major psychological blow to the Mexica forces. The first technological advantage held by the Spanish was the use of steel weapons which proved far more capable than the indigenous weaponry. The Spanish were equipped with steel swords, lances and other weapons. These weapons provided the Spanish with a tool that was both faster than the indigenous weapons and more capable of cutting through cloth armors. This gave the Spanish the ability to quickly and easily kill the indigenous warriors. On the other hand, the primary weaponry used by the indigenous peoples were arrows, two handed swords with stone edges, lances and thrown stones. These weapons were both slower than the Spanish weapons and were much less effective at cutting into the Spaniards despite the fact that the Spanish wore similar armor to the indigenous warriors. This advantage was both known and fully utilized by Cortes, who attempted to further increase the defenses of his men by ordering his men to pay particular attention to wearing effective armor on the head, neck and legs which had proven to be weak points in the Spanish armor. This advantage in defenses was fully illustrated in the earlier battles with the warriors from Tlaxcala wherein the Spanish forces faced over three thousand warriors. In this conflict, according to Bernal Diaz, the Spanish faced a hail of arrows, stones and javelins before fighting at close range with the far more numerous Tlaxcalan warriors. The result of this battle was the death of a single Spaniard and the injuring of sixty, many of which were still able to continue fighting relatively unimpeded. This ability of the Spaniards to quickly cut through the enemy while simultaneously only taking minor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Jewish Returning Home Essay For the survivors, returning to life as it had been before the Holocaust was impossible. Jewish communities no longer existed in much of Europe. When people tried to return to their homes from camps or hiding places, they found that, in many cases, their homes had been looted or taken over by others. Returning home was also dangerous. After the war, anti Jewish riots broke out in several Polish cities. The largest anti Jewish pogrom took place in July 1946 in Kielce, a city in southeastern Poland. When 150 Jews returned to the city, people living there feared that hundreds more would come back to reclaim their houses and belongings. Age old antisemitic myths, such as Jews ritual murders of Christians, arose once again. After a rumor spread ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There they waited to be admitted to places like the United States, South Africa, or Palestine. At first, many countries continued their old immigration policies, which greatly limited the number of refugees they would accept. The British government, which controlled Palestine, refused to let large numbers of Jews in. Many Jews tried to enter Palestine without legal papers, and when caught some were held in camps on the island of Cyprus, while others were deported back to Germany. Great Britain s scandalous treatment of Jewish refugees added to international pressures for a homeland for the Jewish people. Finally, the United Nations voted to divide Palestine into a Jewish and Arab state. Early in 1948, the British began withdrawing from Palestine. On May 14, 1948, one of the leading voices for a Jewish homeland, David Ben Gurion, announced the formation of the State of Israel. After this, Jewish refugee ships freely landed in the seaports of the new nation. The United States also changed its immigration policy to allow more Jewish refugees to enter. Although many Jewish survivors were able to build new lives in their adopted countries, many non Jewish victims of Nazi policies continued to be persecuted in Germany. • 5. The Nearly Fatal Snow Caving Trip Essay The Nearly Fatal Snow Caving Trip Sharp pains shooting through muscles, trying to avoid sleep, hypothermia set in on an Antarctic ice crevasse researcher. I had the opportunity to go snow caving with my brother, Josh. I was confident in my winter backcountry skills and anticipated a memorable trip. I did not know what I was getting into. Growing colder day by day, winter became more dominant. Deep snow made travel difficult. To navigate through this terrain, I would have to wear special equipment. There are a few ways to travel over snow: snowmobiles, cross country skis, and snowshoes. The uneven terrain and fresh powder called for snowshoes. Along with shoes, winter camping requires many other types of gear. To cope with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I recommended to my brother that he should put his snowshoes on before his pack. Climbing over the hardened, plowed up wall of snow, we began our journey. Beginning at a popular cross country ski trail, the traveling was enjoyably easy. Crunching the hardened snow with each step and occasionally meandering off the trail and atop the soft snow, my confidence towered. Distancing ourselves from the car, we passed many pine trees, whose branches and needles would sway in the wind like bowing Chinese men. I sensed the wind whistling through the trees, carrying the light, dry snow across my rosy, wind blown cheeks and burrowing between my neck and shirt collar. In addition, the wind would create beautiful structures of snow, snowdrifts of every size and shape. Remarkable curves and textures created a landscape like a foreign frozen world. At this point, the ski trail dwindled to nothing, so we began to break our own trail. After several demanding hours of trail breaking, we were sweating heavily. The once bone chilling wind had become a blessing with our now unzipped parkas. We questioned the validity of traveling further. We had passed many gigantic snowdrifts and possible campsites, but now tired and anxious we began searching for the ultimate site for our snow cave. Finally, siding a cliff the snow looked deep with easy access. The evergreen trees, with low lying branches created bowls around their bases. This area of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is where all the gods and their children lived. Ezra lived with her father, Philip, and her boyfriend, Hercules. Hercules and Ezra had been forced to marry, even though Ezra did not like the idea. Ezra was treated the best by the gods because of her beauty and humans, or mortals, who were not gods, also loved her. At this time, the gods were all split because of a big argument they had. Important information is often merely touched upon, and then abandoned in favor of an anecdote. The lack of structural variation from the complex multi clause sentences in pivotal moments of the novel parallels the inability of the characters to express their socially taboo traits by neglecting to syntactically emphasize their controversial characteristics. They are expected to emerge from war triumphantly and confidently, but this notion is far from reality. Septimus Warren Smith is a shell shocked veteran, suffering from post war thunder claps of fear, who criticizes the apathy of modernist society. He is incapable of communicating his troubles to those who are enthralled with modern culture (87). Lucrezia notes that the English are so silent, however this silence is not defined as the absence of speech, it refers to the absence of substance (88). The English are capable of speech and yet incapable of transmitting significance. The loose sentence structure and the rambling form underline Septimus s inability to efficiently broadcast his thoughts. The repetition of the phrase he could not remember it, reiterates the inability of Septimus to express his very complex emotions (98). The war has made him so lost within his own thoughts that he cannot clearly conclude how to begin to convey the anguish associated with the loss of Evans. The anxiety caused by the lack of catharsis builds up within Septimus. This intense depth of emotion directly contrasts the shallow understanding of society. • 8. Sex Offenders Against Children are an Epidemic Overrunning... With the creation of computers and Internet, high tech crimes are occurring more frequently than few decades ago. According to a report made by the U.S. Department of Justice; one in five children (10 to 17 years old) receives unwanted sexual solicitations online (Knetzger Muraski, 2008). One of this online sex crime against children is known as child enticement. Several of other young adults are growing up slowly and are not completing milestones that were common at their age in past generations. Emerging adulthood is beneficial to young adults and should be more supported by others because having emerging adulthood would give young adults more time to have identity exploration, it helps give young adults more self focus, and it helps to understand what the real world really is and the issues that come. Initially, emerging adulthood is helpful because young adults have more time to find their identity. In the article, the Arnett talks about the importance of identity exploration: a few of these, especially identity exploration, are part of adolescence too, but they take on new depth and urgency in the 20s (Henig, 200). Arnett is implying that the stage of emerging adulthood plays a major part in finding who the person is. Coming into adulthood a person can feel rushed into adulthood and not fully grasp who they are and what they want or like to do with their life. This feeling is felt even as a teenager. Having the extra time to explore who they are can only benefit the person and ease the transition into adulthood. Arnett emphasizes the urgency on how beneficial finding a person s true self. • 16. William Blake s Poem The Schoolboy Many writers construct natural imagery by deploying figurative language throughout their work. Natural imagery is a prominent feature in the works of William Blake, particularly in his 1789 poem The Schoolboy published in the poetry collection Songs of Innocence . He explores the theme of restriction and how freedom can be found in the natural setting, also demonstrating how human identity can be influenced by these worlds. Blake s own perception of restriction due to education, and love of imagination and creativity, becomes an undertone of his social commentary. The impact of vivid imagery is further explored in D. H. Lawrence s 1922 novella The Fox . The juxtaposition between natural and domestic worlds is examined through literary devices such as metaphor and symbolism to comment upon the way in which nature can impact identity and relationships. In contrast, Lawrence further uses domestic imagery in comparison with description of the natural world to highlight the internal conflict of characters such as March and Henry. Throughout The Schoolboy there is a clear sense of conflict between the restriction of formal learning and the freedom that nature can allow. It could be argued that this theme extends into the form of the poem, with the use of quintain stanzas being unusual during the romantic period perhaps Blake was consciously going against the traditional conventions of poetry. The building also had a fire escape, but it was very narrow and couldn t get that many people down it fast enough. Brine disposal has many methods such as sewer discharge, deicing agent, evaporation pond, and surface water discharge. The cost on disposal is depending on three factors, volume discharged, concentration of biological oxygen demand, and concentration of total suspended solids. Brine underflow slows down along the bay bottoms, limiting oxygen transport to the sediments. To sum up, groundwater contamination can be related to waste disposal, land disposal of solid waste, and brine disposal from the petroleum industry. Over 50% of the United States population depends on ground water for drinking water. Water management needs to be in place to regulate what is going in water and where waste can be put to prevent contamination. • 20. Myrtle Wilson And The Great Gatsby On Thursday last week, two murders have taken place. Myrtle Wilson, wife to a small garage owner, was hit and killed instantly by a speeding car two evenings ago. She had run out into the middle of the street for unknown reasons when the death car hit her. The car was allegedly a yellow or green color and was guessed to be traveling around 40 miles per hour when it hit Myrtle. This car was coming from New York; it swerved a little but did not stop when passing Wilson s garage in East Egg. Wilson himself could hardly gain composure after the accident. A few witnesses had seen what happened and gave their testimonies to a local police officer. Bang, was the sound the body and yellow car made when it made contact with the car, one witness said. • 21. Will Social Security Exist In The Future There are a lot of opinions on how or even if social security will exist in the future. In past years, leading to today there have been many issues, causing everyone to worry about the future funding of social security. The federal government needs to make changes on how social security is being handled before it is to late and no retirees will be getting social security benefits. Below I discuss several options that have been proposed to help the Social Security Trust Fund to get back to being stable. Every passing year, the amount of taxes we are paying for social security will not be able to cover a lot of benefits and it will keep diminishing if nothing is done. The cash flow deficit from social security also contributes to the public debt, due to the fact that the tax revenues will not be enough to cover the expense. In the past when social security has an excess of cash flow, the federal government would use the surplus for other federal spending, so in return it would credit the Social security trust fund by issuing special government securities. The more debit the federal government piles up, the worst the social security benefits will be for the current as well as the future retirees. The unfunded liability for social security will just keep growing, and getting worse if something is not done. One of the options that have been discussed, which can make a difference, is fixing the cost of living adjustment (COLA). The COLA is based on an obsolete measure of ... Give an example of how you are cultivating perspectives and reframing your teachers. If you are not an administrator, how are you doing this with your students. As an instructional coach for our special education teachers working with students who have autism, I spend a portion of my time supporting early career special education teachers by just being fully present and listening to their frustrations. Their frustrations are often not based on facts but their interpretation of events. Those negative interpretations can kill early teachers love of teaching. • 23. Essay On Juan Peron And Eva Peron Keely Guallpa LTS 1003 17 October 2017 Juan and Eva Peron Seventy two years later and the effects of Peronism are still present in the Argentinian society. The roots of Peronism can be traced back to Juan Peron, a military general and later on the President of Argentina. Him, along with his wife Eva Peron, left an imprint on the Argentinian society with their radical changes in politics involving government aid to the poor and the minority. The legacy of Juan Peron started before he became president. In the early 1940s Peron joined the United Officer s Group, a secret group formed in Argentina with the sole purpose of overthrowing the current fraudulent government and placing one of their military generals in power. Peron played a key role in this military coup and during Edelmiro Farrell s presidency, Peron became the Minister of War, Secretary of Labour and Vice President. Peron s political ideology was formed from his army training delegation in Germany and Italy. There, he was able to study the works of Benito Mussolini and the fascist government. He immediately became fascinated with the fascist government and the power Mussolini had over the people. Instead of trying to implement that sme government in argentina, Peron sought ways to improve upon the mistakes of Mussolini s government. Peron s political ideology should not be viewed as fascist but rather as Justicialism. Justicialism involved aid to the working class while not becoming part of capitalism or ... • 24. Compare And Contrast Evolution And Creationism Evolutionism vs. Creationism Group K Special Topics Assignment # 3 Evolution refers to descent with modification and how populations of organisms change overtime. The idea was first popularized by Charles Darwin, but had been a theory before his time as well. In order for evolution to take place, the mechanisms must make very slow changes to organisms that happen over time. Most evolutionists believe that the earth was created over a long period of time and is about 5 billion years old. This enables many changes over slow periods of time to occur just as the theory of evolution suggests. Through natural selection, adaptations are created that benefit the survival of a species. These adaptations, which factor into natural selection, can only be achieved through mutations that can be carried on to offspring. One of the more admired forms of this idea is that god created the earth and life on earth from matter, but some higher power is also the mechanism of evolution and that god intervenes in actions on earth by deciding the fate of certain species (god creates mutations). This belief is known by most as theistic evolution. Literary Explication Of Acquainted With The Night Literary Explication of Acquainted with The Night In the poem Acquainted with The Night by Robert Frost, the speaker of the poem has walked around at night a lot in his life. He has walked away and back to somewhere in the rain. He has walked in the city and beyond, perhaps out of the city. He has been down the lonely dark streets. He walks by a watchman, but did not look because he did not want to have to give an explanation of what he was doing there. He has stopped to listen to a voice calling out from another street, hoping that is was someone that was looking for him. The speaker looks up at a luminary clock , which is the moon, but was not very satisfied with the time that it has shown. He ends up referring to the first line of the poem, he has been acquainted with the night. Robert Frost uses symbolism, setting, and the speaker himself to tell the story of the man who has been acquainted with the night. The first literary element used in Acquainted with The Night is symbolism. Darkness and light are used in the poem, more being the lack of light. • 38. The Mating Intelligence Scale, And The Flirting Style Test... Personality Portfolio Personality tests offer an opportunity to learn more about psychology and about oneself. I have just completed the Jung type sorter, the Big five inventory, the mating intelligence scale, and the flirting style test. I had taken both the Jungian Type Sorter and the Big Five Inventory previously, but now have a better understanding what my scores mean. The Mating intelligence and Flirting Styles tests were both novel to me, I enjoyed these two tests the most, but have doubts about the accuracy of my responses to questions. Jungian Type Sorter My Jungian type was Extraverted, Intuitive, Feeling, and Perceiving, or ENFP. Alternatively, INFP due to a low preference for extraversion over introversion (3% vs 1% respectively). Reading through the descriptions of both personality types I cannot say that either align terribly well with my own self judgement. The experience is reminiscent of reading a horoscope; I can easily identify with about half of the claims made, while a quarter are slightly off the mark, and the remaining are dead wrong. Considering though that the descriptions must be written to encompass scorers at both extremes of the scales, this doesn t necessarily indicate a lack of validity in the model itself. The website lists some famous ENFPs. Assuming their assessments are valid, it is certainly gratifying to be likened to Mark Twain, a man whose gruff compassion I have always admired. Buster Keaton, a childhood favorite of mine, is an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Eddie Carbone as a Tragic Hero in A View from the Bridge... A View from the Bridge is a dramatic tragedy, which follows the life of a dockworker, Eddie Carbone, in 1950s America who is the main focus of the play. He represents the average, everyday man in society, but his character draws parallels to many tragic heroes in the past shown in Greek tragedies, Shakespeare s plays, etc. (e.g. Hamlet and Macbeth). A tragic hero is the hero in the story who has positive and negative traits and their negative traits is what eventually leads to the demise and this is what happens to Eddie. Many fathers and uncles can relate to Eddie when they have to let go of their children, but Eddie s tragic flaw is that his immature actions and selfish behaviour emphasises his personal obsession of being in charge and ... He also goes on to say that, every few years there is still a case [like this] , further trying to make Eddie seem innocent. At the beginning of the play, Eddie is portrayed as a sensible and smart character. Eddie and the girls (Catherine and Beatrice) all have a requited respect for each other Beatrice: Mmm! You re an angel! God ll bless you and there are no problems as such, even when the immigrants first come. He is also respected by the community Alfieri: He was good a man as he had to be in life that was. But this dominant respect that he gains is what he is very used to and the slight changes where Catherine finds another man in her life and Beatrice also looks after the two immigrants (Rodolpho and Marco) effects Eddie hugely. The respect that he becomes used to is now shared by the women in his life between the men in his house and he craves for more attention. This can be considered one of his flaws that lead to his downfall. He is also shown caring for Catherine in the beginning of the play. He can be seen as a normal uncle or father Beatrice: She s got a job. Eddie: What job? She s gonna finish school. He is also very proud of Catherine Sure she s the best... You look like a ... • 40. Phonemic Awareness Phonemic awareness is not phonics. Phonemic awareness is an understanding about spoken language. Children who are phonemically aware can tell the teacher that bat is the word the teacher is representing by saying the three separate sounds in the word. They can tell you all the sounds in the spoken word dog. They can tell you that, if you take the last sound off cart you would have car. Phonics on the other hand, is knowing the relation between specific, printed letters (including combinations of letters) and specific, spoken sounds. You are asking children to show their phonics knowledge when you ask them which letter make the first sound in bat or dog or the last sound in car or cart. The phonemic awareness tasks that have predicted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Focusing on rimes rather than on vowels alone is particularly important in helping children learn to decode words. (Adams, 1990) Research shows that all proficient readers rely on deep and ready knowledge of spelling sound correspondence while reading, whether this knowledge was specifically taught or simply inferred by students. Conversely, failure to learn to use spelling/sound correspondences to read and spell words is shown to be the most frequent and debilitating cause of reading difficulty. Many children learn to read without any direct classroom instruction in phonics. But many children, especially children from homes that are not language rich, do need more systematic instruction in word attack strategies. Well sequenced phonics instruction early in the first grade has been shown to reduce the incidence of reading difficulty even as it accelerates the growth of the class as a whole. Given this, it is probably better to start all children, most especially in high poverty areas, with explicit phonics instruction. Such an approach does require continually monitoring children s progress both to allow those who are progressing quickly to move ahead before they become bored and to ensure that those who are having difficulties get the assistance they need. • 41. German History Essay Most would agree that it is valuable to acknowledge history, whether it be through documentation, education, or architectural preservation. However, history can be complex and ugly, stained by war, genocide, and destruction. Therein lies a philosophical controversy: should these historical stains be acknowledged or buried? What role do these ugly histories have in the development of a society? Within the last century, no nation has been forced to confront these questions on the same scale that Germany has (Levinger 118). With a twentieth century history marked by hatred and the abuse of power, National Socialism and Soviet communism, Germany s dark history lies only decades in the past. For this reason, these histories remain freshly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In essence, historic preservation roots collective memory in a physical, tangible space. To many scholars, memory in this context is not simply information that is recalled and retold (qtd. in Till 11). Instead, it is the act of continuously finding and contextualizing history by means of physical space. Preservation of historical architecture is therefore unique, as it juxtaposes this history and memory with the surrounding modern world. This highlights the importance of preserving history through architecture, rather than museums, textbooks, and archives alone. By preserving the physical remnants of a city s dark history, residents and passersby are forced to confront this history nondeliberately. Moreover, according to Rudy J. Koshar, a preserved site must maintain some present value or purpose. This is particularly relevant when considering the preservation of buildings or sites which represent a history that is controversial or shameful, as it is important to balance the shame evoked by this space with the benefits of its preservation. The task of historic preservation is especially challenging in nations such as Germany which have pasts that many are reluctant to remember. Germany is a particularly interesting case, as it is now recognized as one of the most progressive, economically powerful, and politically liberal countries in the world. Yet, no comparably modern country is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. How To Build Suspense In Jaws June 20th 1975, Hollywood director Steven Spielberg released Jaws to the public. This deep sea thriller was based off the novel of the same name written by Peter Benchley in 1974 with a budget of only seven million USD and was incredibly successful, grossing around 470.7 million USD. The movie takes place in the fictional town of Amity. Everything is going well that is until a there is a mysterious chain of disappearances, People are either found horribly mutilated or not found at all. Sheriff Martin Brody is called on the scene and it s concluded that a man eating great white has been stalking Amity s waters, eating anybody who crosses its path and it s now up to Brody and young oceanographer Matt Hooper to deal with the shark. Something to note in Jaws is how obscure the antagonist is, I mean it s teased here and there but it s not necessarily revealed until later, this has to do with the climax. As the shark appears more frequently, it s behavior becomes more sporadic and open until the showdown with the crew of the orca then things really get crazy. (keep in ... We ve all heard it before, the iconic slow but noticeable buildup that gets more intense as whatever is chasing out of your field of view gets closer. As for Spielberg it s apparent that his intention was to tease the audience between each kill. When the shark attacks become more frequent and the kill count rises later in the film, the tension is at an all time high. This is shown during one scene in which a massive population enters the shark s water and the camera cuts to isolated individuals who would be considered easy prey.
