Emotional Intelligence On The Workplace
Emotional Intelligence in the Workplace When most people think of emotional intelligence (EI),
they are unsure about what exactly that phrase means. Is it someone who is very emotional?
Someone who is very smart? What is it and why is it important in the workplace? Emotional
intelligence is a phrase that encompasses many different traits that a person could have as far as
maintaining control in the workplace and also how to read people and different things they may be
feeling. Emotional intelligenceis important for being aware of someone s own emotions as well as
trying to calm down or excite the people around them. A person who is in any leadershipposition
needs to have an awareness of his/her emotional intelligence as well as how important it can be for
day to day functioning within the work environment. This paper will go into the background and
history of emotional intelligence, talk about how it can be an important leadership tool in the
nursing field, and how I can further improve my leadership skills and growth with emotional
intelligence in order to give the reader a further understanding on the topic.
Background and definition The term emotional intelligence dates back to 1990 when two
psychology professors named John Mayer and Peter Salovey were discussing politics and certain
politicians and one of them said to the other how can someone so smart be so dumb? ; it was from
there that they realized there is more to intelligence than someone s IQ

Protein Steroid Management Of Patients With A Normal...
Pituitary Surgery Perioperative Steroid Management in Patients with a Normal Hypothalamic
Pituitary Axis INTRODUCTION Surgery on the pituitary gland and around the sellar region is
of special interest to the neurosurgeon. The approach to the gland has evolved over the past 50
years and so has the role of steroids in the perioperative management of these patients. Being one
of the organs that play a key role in the hormonal balance of an individual, the neurosurgeon
should be particularly careful that all steps must be taken to optimise the hormonal status and also
ensure there is no disruption in that balance postoperatively. For more than half a decade the
meticulous administration of steroid perioperatively has become common place. Today, however,
the old philosophies are being challenged and new philosophies pioneered creating a paradigm
shift in the way we manage patient requiring an operation around the sellar region, in particular
pituitary surgery. CASE A 47 year old hypertensive male presented to the outpatient department at
our institution with a history of headaches and worsening vision over a one year period. In
particular he noticed that he had difficulty in seeing peripherally. His headaches were pounding in
character and frontal in location. He had no other significant symptoms. On examination his vital
signs were within normal limits. His Glasgow Coma Score (GCS) was 15 with no motor deficits.
His visual acuity was 20/200 in both eyes and he

Change Your Beliefs
Do you agree with what the greatest Self Help Success author of all time Napoleon Hill (author of
Think Grow Rich) said, Whatever the mind can conceive and believe it will achieve ?
I ve learned often the hard ways that what your mind believes you will ALWAYS achieve: Good,
bad or indifferent. Unless and until something comes along to change your mind.
Your beliefs create your paradigmof life the way it is, whatever the it is we re talking about. There
are paradigms for every domain of life and work.
A paradigm is your belief about the way it is. It s your worldview of the matter no matter what s the

Differences between The Birds the Movie and The Birds...
The Birds
The Birds, the movie was directed by Alfred Hitchcock and was based on the short story The
Birds written by Daphne du Murrier. If you would have read the book and then watched the
movie, you would see that very few things are the same. In both the short story and the movie
flocks of gulls, robins, crows, and sparrows join each other. This is really weird because different
species of birds never work together. The story and the film both have the same climate. It is cold
and chilly; the ground is frozen and it will be a black winter. The climate gives the versions of the
story a creepy and suspenseful feeling.
Each version also has the main characters boarding up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Is Melanie or the lovebirds really evil in the film, or in the story is it just the black winter and the
tides?
The short story and the film have differences too but none of these differences really affected the
main plot. The short story s setting is placed just south of London, England right after World
War II. The films setting is in Bodega Bay just a little ways away from San Francisco and takes
place in the 1960 s. In the film a mad woman accused Melanie of bringing evil and causing the
attacking of the birds. In the story birds attacked when the tide came in and in the film the birds
attack at different times, over and over.
The characters are totally different in the two versions. The short story s main characters are a
family; a husband, a wife, and two children. The film s characters are a woman and a man, and the
man s mother and younger sister.
In the film, it shows more of the school and the children then it does in the short story. The radio is
also more involved in the short story then it is in the film.
More events happen in the film, such as the fire at the gas station and the restaurant. The film shows
more details then the short story and helps you visualize the attacks more.

Prosecutions In Victorian London
Prosecutions in Victorian London By:Justice Crawford
Over two hundred years ago in Victorian London, merchants would cut thieves fingers off for
stealing fruit from their market. In the early nineteenth century, court conditions and the treatment
of both the victim and the accused was very different from today. Trials in court were often very
quick. Prosecutors, judges and jurors had more power and choice. Punishments varied based on
the criminals social class and gender. If the accuser was pleaded guilty it would be nearly
impossible to plead their innocence even if there was significant evidence. The Victorians were very
distraught about crime. Levels rose sharply towards the end of the 18th century and continued to rise

Since whites were the settlers of London they had more privileges than immigrants and blacks.
In the article, Victorian London written by David Ross, Ross explains the life of a regular
citizen in Victorian London. During the time where immigrants and blacks migrated to London,
whites started to make their own local police force called Bobbies . On page 12, Ross writes In
1829 Sir Robert Peel founded the Metropolitan Police to handle law and order in areas outside
the City proper. These police became known as Bobbies after their founder. The early part of the
19th century was the golden age of steam. The first railway in London was built from London
Bridge to Greenwich in 1836, and a great railway boom followed. Major stations were built at
Euston (1837), Paddington (1838), Fenchurch Street (1841), Waterloo (1848), and King s Cross
(1850). This quote says that with the help of slaves and workers London built wonderful
attractions such as the Paddington and King s Cross. Also on page 15, it says The workers in
London were not only facing competition from their fellow countrymen, but also from people
across Europe like the Irish and the Jewish, who came to London to find jobs. The 19th century
London was the world s largest city and a political, economic and trading capital of Britain. The

Analysis Of The Movie Rampart
The movie, Rampart, which is set in Los Angeles in 1999 and focused on the life of 24 year
veteran Officer Dave Brown of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) as a part of the
Rampart division. He is a man of his own breed who follows his own code of justice disregarding
the solid line that stands between right and wrong. Brown is prone to using violence and
intimidation to maintain his own idea that he is the unnoticed, underappreciated vigilante for the
public. Although he has a hero complex, he does not seem to form intimate emotional
connections, even though he was married to two women (both of which are sisters) and has a
daughter by each woman. Neither of the women seemed to feel any emotional connection to
Brown seeing as they all live together for the sake of the children, regardless of the obvious fact
that his children do not seem to have a strong bond with him either. Years earlier Brown was
involved in the death of a suspected serial rapist, which put the policedepartment under stress as
well as earned him the nickname Date Rape Dave . To further the spotlight on the LAPD and
Officer Brown, a video was aired on the local television stations of Brown unnecessarily beating an
individual who crashed into the back of his police vehicle. An assistant DA pressures and urges
Brown to retire to try and prevent the police department from undergoing more fire and speculation
from the public. The actions of Brown thrusts a tear in the relationship between the

Halifax Explosion Essay
On the morning of December 6, 1917, a tragic disaster prevailed itself in the city of Halifax,
Nova Scotia. During WW1, the cause of this tragedy was the collision of two ships; the
Norwegian vessel SS Imo and the Belgian steamer, the Mont Blanc which occurred in front of
the Halifax port. Halifax played a crucial role during the war because it was deemed the docking
station where soldiers and supplies were sent overseas. Essentially, The Halifax Explosion was
the largest blast in Canadian history, which in turn caused rigorous turmoil throughout the
nation; despite such devastation, alleviation teams came to help seatone Halifax. To being with,
the Mont Blanc was a general cargo and munitions ship which was owned by Cie Generale
Transatlantique. The crew of the Mont Blanc was a relief ship leading them to hold many
dangerous explosives. She carried 200 tonnes of TNT, 2300 tonnes of picric acid, 61 tonnes of
gun cotton and 35 tonnes of benzyl, which was stored in barrels on the top deck. The explosives
the Mont Blanc carried had enough power to annihilate an entire city. In order to keep the secrecy

she must remain a maid for the rest of her life. But one day, she has an encounter with a man that
changes her life forever. After being acquainted with the Chairman and his geisha, she comes to
a realization that maybe she could succeed as a geisha. She states: I d never imaged myself
envying a geisha. I d been brought to Kyoto for the purpose of becoming one, of course; but up
until now I d have run away in an instant if I could have. Now I understand the thing I d

was hardly a purpose in life. But to be a geisha... I could see it now a stepping stone to something
else. (Golden 114) This is the time that Chiyo finally accepts her fate. She is determined to become
a geisha so that she may be worthy enough of spending time with the Chairman. She envies the

Herbert Hoover s Stock Market Crash
The 1929 Stock Market Crash We d like to thank you, Herbert Hoover/ For really showing us the
way/ You dirty rat, you Bureaucrat, you/ Made us what we are today (www.stlyrics.com). These
lyrics from the musical Annie place the blame for the 1929 Stock Market Crash solely on the then
former president Herbert Hoover. The truth of the matter is that placing the blame for the Stock
MarketCrash on Mr. Hoover is very unfair. Herbert Hoover was only one of many causes of the
Stock Market Crash. It is easy to try to place the blame for one of the most destructive events in
the history of the American economy on one person, but the real causes lie in the rampant
speculation, the lack of regulation of the stock market, and the questionable ethics of many of
the companies and brokers that were involved in the market. Although the 1929 Stock Market
Crash is generally blamed on a few scapegoats, it was actually caused by a multitude of factors,
which makes finding a scapegoat impossible. While there may be some arguments among
historians, speculation is obviously one of the major causes of the Crash. Speculation (In the
context of the stock market) is the buying of stocks with the purpose of profiting not from the
dividends that the stock pays, but by the fluctuations in the price (Axon 31). Speculation is often
looked down upon by the market as a profession, as it is seen as a form of gambling with possible
serious repercussions. The secret is that speculation is actually

Asses the Extent to Which the Ideal of Equality Is Shared...
Assess the extent to which the ideal of equality is shared by all Australians
The idea of mateship and the trendy notion of a fair go for all emphasises the strength of Australian
support for the value of equality of opportunity, the ideal goal of all Australians having equal
opportunity to achieve success. Notions of Egalitarianism are what Australia strives to accomplish
within its society, through the implementing and practicing of legislations such as Anti
Discrimination Act (1997), Sex Discrimination Act (1954) and Racial Discrimination Act (1975)
which were established in order to conclude unfair treatment based on people s looks, beliefs or

Only recently, the Australian Government introduced reforms to de facto relationships. This meant
that same sex couples are entitled to the same benefits and subject to the same obligations as
opposite sex couples (Property Relationships Act 1984 NSW). The legislation of Same Sex
Relationships (Equal Treatment in Commonwealth Laws General Law Reform) Act 2008 removed
discriminatory treatment of same sex couples. These acts included laws about tax, superannuation,
Medicare, workers compensations, employment entitlements and family law. Homosexuals are
discriminated against in terms of marriage, donating blood and are also victims to abuse due to
their status. A study conducted by the Victorian Gay and Lesbian RightsLobby revealed that 84%
of participants aged between 14 and 21 had been treated unfairly because of their sexuality and
almost half had suffered verbal or physical abuse. With these inequalities present, it is difficult to
achieve equality and fairness around this group. Although Australia proposes the ideal of
egalitarianism, it is hard to justify whether it is present or not. The ideal goal and desire which
Australia values within its diverse hybrid society is that Australia is a lucky country , priding itself
of mateship and equal opportunity which establishes Australia s nation identity. However with

sacred, and absolutely cannot be arranged by others, cannot be forced, cannot be bought , he
wants the youth to be like that of the west who have free will and don t suffer from lack of free
will. Mao Zedong brings up how the west marriage isn t terrible like China, If this had taken
place in Western society, there would have been no system of go betweens to force them

that marriage system and lack of free will is one of the reasons China was overlooked in the
Treaty of Versailles. Mao Zedong believes that women being oppressed in the Chinese Culture is
one reason Miss Zhao ended her own life. Women in China have to show obedience to their
husband and father leaving them with no free will. In public areas, Mao states, not a woman

segregated, that women are not allowed a place in society . When women marry poor they are to

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this paper is to tell the reader how children are most influenced psychologically by
war and that the psychological effects are more severe than those of physical, emotional, and social
influences. Researches that were found in this projects includes: book, journal, websites,
professional member of the APA, et al. Through further reading on the research, it has come to the
conclusion that children face more psychological effects than others and that it can lead to post
traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other symptoms and disorders such as depression or anxiety.
Research has also found that children can experience symptoms of these disorders by being
directly or indirectly influenced by war.
INTRODUCTION Fear, Hostility, Bloodshed, Battle. These are some of the few words that
come to mind when people hear the word war . People say that war is a mean to better the world
or to protect the lives of others, when in reality it is just another way to torment the lives of other.
Everyone is a victim in times of war, but the group that suffers from it the most are children. Many
believe that children are more affected socially, physically, and emotionally by war rather than
suffering psychologically through Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and other disorders.
Children rely on empathy and attention from their

Portrayal Of Women In Media Literacy
LITERATURE REVIEW
The well known adage which states that If a woman is educated, the whole family gets educated ,
is very appropriate for Media Literacy. Poverty, gender discrepancies, illiteracy and disconnectivity
have left women all over the world helpless when it comes to getting information. Sadly,
historically across the globe such discrepancies are not confined to a specific culture, region,
country or status. But one thing that has been observed is that this is more obvious in the rural and
backward areas (Johnson. N,2013). It is essential that women be harnessed to use technology and
thereby included in the big picture of media literacy. Having technology and not being able to use
it, is as good as not having it. Developing media skills is equally essential. When women citizens
become critical consumers of information, then they would most definitely contribute to public
discourse effectively. Another reason is that in developing media skills, women citizens can protect
themselves and others from harmful content pushed mainly by new information and
communication technologies.
Portrayal of Women in Media
How women are portrayed or represented in media is also important. Media can play a significant
role in sensitizing the society about gender issues. But, before that, the media itself needs to be
sensitized in covering women issues. The distribution of power between the two sexes both
physical and economic is unequal, leading to discrimination against women.

drivers are unsupervised and interact directly with clientele, it is of paramount importance that
drivers display professional attitudes and exemplary customer service. To aid better attitude and
exemplary job performance, it is recommended that a philosophy of autonomy and free will is
incorporated into the job narrative for drivers and dispatch. Studies show that when employees
leave that there is an element of free will in their work, they perform better and demonstrate better
workplace behavior (Stillman, 2010). Specifically, research has concluded that belief in free will
facilitates control behavior and buffers against impulsive action, which, in turn, translates to better
job performance (Stillman, 2010, p. 48). Therefore, by incorporating a philosophy of autonomy into
employee expectations and job analysis, Landslide Limousines will increase the positive

Pros And Cons Of The Automobile Industry
The automobile industry is one of the most prosperous industries in the United States. For years, it
had a big impact on the American economy. But with the recession of 2007 2008, consumer
spending decreased and new car sales plunged (Davis, 2012). Big automobile firms like General
Motors and Chrysler were on the verge of bankruptcy (Davis, 2012). Luckily, the American
government intervened to rescue these firms through bailout money (Davis, 2012).
In 2010, the automobile industry in the United States employed more than 1.7 million people and

In conclusion, the automobile industry in the United States is a thriving industry. It would need to
move to more eco friendly options in the future to help tackle technology and changes.

The Five Stages Of Listening
There are five stages of listening, receiving, understanding, remembering, evaluating, and
responding. The five stages overlap. In receiving, you need to focus your attention, maintain your
role and avoid assuming that you understand. In understanding, it is important that you see the
speaker s messages from their point of view. It is also helpful to rephrase their message to be clear
and also ask questions to clarify or confirm that you understand their message. The third stage is
remembering, you need to focus on the main idea, organize what you hear, combine what you knew
previously and repeat important information to yourself such as names and information. Next is
evaluating, you should wait until you fully understand what the speaker... Show more content on

Hahn s founding of nuclear fission had created a big change to the world both during and after the
time he lives. The tremendous implications of this discovery have led to study on possible
military developments. Fission products are produced in nuclear weapon explosions, with the
amount depending on the type of weapon. The largest source of fission products is from nuclear
reactor. Some fission products are also used in industrial inventions and innovations. For

Cassirer, Nietzsche and NiccolГІ Machiavelli s The Prince
When the word Renaissance is mentioned, an image of love for antiquity learning and fine arts
usually springs to one s mind. Yet this perception, however legitimate it may be in many areas of
Renaissance human achievements, shatters in the face of NiccolГІ Machiavelli s masterpiece The
Prince. Unlike his contemporary Baldassare Castiglione who exemplified subtlety, Machiavelli was
ruthlessly practical, nonchalantly callous, and admirably seamless in his logics about the bloody
art of political power.
By all accounts The Prince, is a handbook on the acquisition and maintenance of political power.
Neither can it be argued any otherwise, like Ernest Cassirer has acknowledged in ... Show more

(p164, New Theory of the State ) The keen observer that was Machiavelli merely organized and
publicized the thoughts that once were only whispered amongst the political elites.
However, while The Prince can hardly be convicted of being a product of malice, what the
readers cannot forget is that Machiavelli based his Political Ruler 101 on his fundamental and
unshakable personal philosophical conviction that men are inherently self serving. Cassirer
recognizes Machiavelli for his cynical side: we shall never understand [man] as long as we are
suffering from the illusion of his original goodness (p163, New Theory of the State ). Much like
Thomas More who had the fictional More and Raphael Hythloday two halves of his same
philosophical self arguing about the practicality of an ideal society in Utopia, Ernest Cassirer
attempted to draw a distinction between Machiavelli the idealist who cherished dreams of a
Republic and Machiavelli the pragmatist who was necessarily pessimistic about the natures of
human and politics alike. The liberal Machiavelli ventured that the aim of the common people is
more honest than that of the nobles (p28); while the cynical Machiavelli claimed that any man
who tries to be good all the time is bound to come to ruin among the great number who are not
good. (p42)
The darker Machiavelli s views are echoed in Fredrich Nietzsche s philosophy. In his Morals as
Fossilized Violence , Nietzsche charged that humans at

Renewable Energy In Canada
About education defines energy as the ability to do work (Helmenstine, A. 2016) which conveys
that it can be used to produce electricity, cooling, heating and many more for our homes, office, and
indeed for our environment. Although, it have undoubtedly became an important part of our life,
making our task easier to achieve; it still has a lot of negative impacts whether it be on the
environment, the health of humans, or the animals. The most common type of energy that is being
used today is fossil fuels. For many years, Aboriginal communities in Northern Canada have relied
on technologies that use fossil fuels (Issues Related to Energy Changes, 2016). Many of the

An important role of them is to generate energy from natural resources, for instance solar thermal.
It is a solar water heater that uses the power of the sun to heat water thus reducing the amount of
gas or electricity required. In fact, according to Education Scotland, solar power plants in Spain
have generated 3 gigawatts of power which represents 2.8% of Spain s energy needs (Solar
Renewable Energy, 2016). There are many renewable energy technologies that can prevent acid
rain, urban smog, pollution and the burning of coal. Canada has improve on its uses of fossil fuel,
the uses of renewable energy grew from 2% to 11% (Healing, 2016). Therefore, if using renewable
energy sources will give us the luxurious of being able to have electricity, heat our homes, transport,
and protect the environment, then why not use it. In conclusion, using alternative energy
technologies like solar power, we can have the luxurious to provide for everything from human
needs to protecting the environment than why wait before it is too late. Fossil fuel not only harms
the environment but also the current and future generations. Whereas, sources like solar power can
save us from burning tons of coal, releasing harmful chemicals like carbon dioxide into the
atmosphere, and prevent any kind of pollution. To sum up, large oil or energy source companies

Nikita Khrushchev s Impact On The Soviet Union
Ottepel (the thaw) refers to the period after the death of Stalin, when Nikita Khrushchev loosened
control in the Soviet. Causing unprecedented social, cultural, and economic transformations in the
Soviet Union, the thaw attempted to initiate policies of de Stalinization. It was a chain of
unprecedented steps to free people from fear and dictatorship. Khrushchev s determination to de
Stalinize the country led to unexpected consequences as both the political and cultural thaws were
ended with the removal of Khrushchev in 1964. These political and cultural ideals helped liberate
and change the public consciousness of several generations of people in the Soviet Union.
Additionally, Khrushchev s efforts to change the Soviet society and move away from its past
served as models for Gorbachev s perestroika and glasnost during his tenure.
Glasnost, also known as openness , was an ideal instituted by Mikhail Gorbachev in 1985.

A Vessel of Power
Open on a small, hot, loud, and crowded room; emphasis on the loud. The lights are low aside
from a glowing stage. Two gangly men are exuding energy and life off the stage and onto the
crowd. The mass of people at their feet are responding tenfold, dedicated fans who know every
word, every beat. They sing (or scream) along, I m trying, I m trying to sleep. But I can t, but I
can t when you all have guns for hands. The room is filled with unusual pairs: old and young, black
and white, poor and rich. Despite their differences, they are at home with each other, bound by their
shared interest in music and life. The song continues, and hundreds of hands shaped like guns fill
the small space between the heads and the ceiling. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The language of an effective song inspires deeper thinking, puts a thought in a new perspective,
helps cement prior knowledge, opens the eyes of the audience. These lyrics aid in that ah ha
moment when people see the world in a new light, or they may serve as reassurance, helping the
listener feel understood and less alone. Lyrics can, and should be powerful.
The lyrics from Vessel exemplify this power. Every song on the album has at least a few
sentences that make listeners stop in their tracks. In some songs, like Migraine or Car Radio,
every line does that. Car Radio expands on the idea that Sometimes quiet is violent. It explores
the dark places human minds may go if given the opportunity. Migraine speaks on the complexity
of life, especially elaborating on the loneliness that accompanies not feeling understood and how
that loneliness causes depression while encouraging listeners to hope. Knowing there are others
out there listening to this song, thinking the same thoughts, even if they are strangers, alleviates
that lonely feeling. Migraine also urges listeners to keep fighting, to never give up on their life
goals or on life itself. The only miss on this criteria from the album comes from, ironically, their
most popular song, House of Gold. The song is a simple ballad to the writer s mother promising to
take care of her: sweet, but not exactly thought provoking. Despite this, Vessel definitely exceeds the

The Use Of Literary Devices In A Separate Peace By John...
Literary devices are tools and techniques of language that authors use to send a message to the
readers. In A Separate Peace John Knowles uses, extended metaphor, foreshadowing, imagery and
many other literary devices that give more depths, emotions to the characters, plot and theme in the
book. The devices are used by authors to keep the reader more engaged in the novel. A great use of
literary devices brings richness, clarity, insight and understanding of the text. Foreshadowing is
used to warn or indicate an event in the future, extended metaphor is used to compare the
difference between two things which continues throughout a series of sentences . Verbal irony is a

This approach to irony can help the readers to gain more insight about each of the character s
personalities. In A Separate Peace Gene knew that summer was officially over when Finny fell
from the tree. That proved that the rules at Devon were there for a reason, If you broke the rules,
then they broke you (66). The meaning of the verbal irony is that with every action you take
there are consequences. External conflict is an effective way to build suspense in the novel
which keeps the reader turning pages. An external conflict is found is A Separate Peace that Gene
encounters, he gets into a brief fight with Cliff Quackenbush after returning from his break and
visiting his injured friend, Finny. Gene shows up late at the crew house and Cliff chides him
about his tardiness and makes condescending comments, I hit him hard across the face... I tried to
throw him off, he lunged at the same time, and we catapulted into the water (79). Gene most likely
losses his temper with Quakenbush because of his inner struggle with guilt. In fact, Quackenbush
is the opposite of Finny, and as Gene had to deal with the crew leader s attitude and comments, it
reminds Gene even more of Finny s absence. Gene is also showing some resilience just like Finny

The Law Side Of A Human Resource Department Essay
Now, to wrap up these two acts/laws that were important to the basis of the law side of a Human
Resource Department which were both established before 1991. To provide a food for thought
here are a few things to consider, which is that our current president, Barack Obama, not only
encourages but also stands by; equal pay, which is an act that was established in 1963, yet
women in similar jobs as men still only earn seventy cents to every dollar earned by a man.
President Obama is encouraging companies to take an equal pay pledge and has created tools
that will lead to more transparency in companies compensation practices. According to an article
written in The Huffington Post He has used the bully pulpit his office brings including several
State of the Union addresses to educate the country about the harm caused by gender and race
based discrimination, bringing these issues out of the shadows and into the national debate (Ness,
2016). It is clear President Obama has done a lot to help women in the workplace; not only
women but employees everywhere who are very thankful. Having said that, it is up to the employer
s and it s Human Recourse Department to continue to uphold and implement these acts in the
workplace even after President Obama is no longer in office. Intro to Ethics Fair Treatment

Hostile Environment is essentially sexual harassment in which a hostile work environment is
created where an employee is subject to unwelcome verbal or physical bullying and sexual

and granted the authorization to use deadly force, while being tasked with carrying out orders from

Compare And Contrast Tsunami And Tsunami
Tsunamis are devastating natural disasters which have huge impacts on population. They are series
of fast travelling ocean waves of extremely long length and occurs in coastal areas. The word
Tsunami comes from two Japanese words meaning harbour wave .
Tsunami waves are extremely rapid ocean waves. Although Tsunamis are commonly known as
tidal waves, they are actually unrelated to tidal activities. Tsunamis are more common around the
Pacific Ocean because of earthquakes and volcanic eruption in the ring of fire. Each year on
average, two tsunamis occur around the world. In many ways, Tsunamis are similar to regular
waves as they aren t just moving water, they are energy moving through water. The difference is
how this energy is formed. Normal ocean waves come from the wind. On the other hand, Tsunamis
are caused by energy originating underwater from earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides or
meteorite crashes. These underwater activities release massive amounts of energy into the surface
which then displaces water, raising it above the average sea level. The waves try escaping, but
gravity pulls it back down and makes the energy spread out horizontally. This is when the Tsunami
starts heading to the shore. Once a tsunami wave is born, there s no stopping it since the energy
generated is massive. When one set of tsunami wave reaches the shoreline, the others catch up
due to the compressed energy. These series of waves are called Tsunami wave trains . It is stated
that tsunamis sound like standing near a moving freight train. They can travel approximately
700 km/h, faster than a flying jet plane. The waves reach up to about 30 m on average. Although
this is very high, there can be waves at a much higher level. They are called Mega Tsunamis .
Mega Tsunamis can reach the height of more than 250 m and are usually caused by landslides or
large volcanic eruptions. When Tsunamis start to reach the shore, they slow down in speed but
increase in height rapidly. Tsunamis are deadly so it is crucial to watch out for different signals.
There are tsunami warning systems attached to the buoys in the sea that transmits data and work as
a warning system. There are a few other warnings the ocean sends just before the

United Nations Peacekeeping Operations Before and After...
How did the historical facts change Peacekeeping operations before and after the cold war? History
In order to understand the concept behind peacekeeping we have to first look at the history of
this UN term and how it got established. The initial kick off year was 1948 (un.org) when the
Security Council deployed troops to the Middle East in order to observe the region. It was the
outcome of the creation of the state Israel and the rest of the land piece was given and left over to
the Palestinian Arabs. The Arab society and the Arab Nation leaders did not accept this division
which caused the conflict. At first the UN sent only observers and peaceful troops to the region ...

Two main characters play a big role in this conflict. One was the leader of the soviet union
Khrushchev who said that he wants to launch and shower the west with nuclear weapons. (cbc.ca)
After this comment the Council met and tried to find a solution for the problem when the second
character came into the scene Lester B. Pearson who later won a Nobel Prize for Peace. He came
up with the idea to deploy troops into the conflict area. His words were: A United Nationsforce
large enough to keep those borders at peace while a political settlement is being worked out .
(cbc.ca) With this idea of conflict resolution he opened the world to the term peacekeeping
operations which were from that moment onwards led by united forces. Canada, the home country
of Pearson, was present in every single peacekeeping operation conducted by the UN. Continuing
onwards from this point in history all the Peace operations during the cold war were a lot of
controversy and hate was dominating the Security Council which was a big problem for the
represented countries. After the first armed Peace keeping mission was successfully implemented
in the Suez Canal it seemed like that all nations and countries wanted to participate in the next one

Commodity Fetishism In Harry Potter By Turner-Vorbeck
The fundamental implication at work here is that their needs be nothing aesthetically valuable or
unique about that upon which an imposed phenomena is generated. Is it something special about
the Harry Potter books that has caused such a sensation or is the sensation artificially manufactured
and simply centered around them? An understanding of commodity fetishism supports the latter
position. If the Harry Potterbooks were, indeed, worthy of such widespread adulation, then the
support for them would have naturally risen up from the readers rather than being pushed down
upon them by mass media marketing (Turner Vorbeck, 8)
I noticed that here Turner Vorbeck is assuming who her audience is by the language that she is
using. To me, the words and phrases that she uses indicate that she assumes that academics are
the only ones who are going to be reading her essay. Her language is not inherently difficult to
understand, it s not something I could envision seeing in a newspaper or magazine where
millions of everyday people would read it. I also noted that in this particular passage Turner
Vorbeck uses a rhetorical question, the question being Is it something special about the Harry
Potter books that has caused a sensation or is the sensation artificially manufactured and simply
centered around them? (Turner Vorbeck, 8). While she knows we as the readers will not have an
answer to that question, she uses this to set up her next claim: that the Harry Potter books are not

Formal And Acceptance, Bid, Advertising And Public Offer...
Offer and acceptance There are six elements of an enforceable contract and we will discuss one
of them which is offer and acceptance. As we learned in the class offer and acceptance defined
as a proposal made by one party to another party that designates a disposition to enter into a
contract and a designation made by the offeree that he or she concurs to be bound by the terms of
the offer . This research, will discuss the requirement for a valid offer and acceptance, bid,
advertising and public offer and termination of an offer. Requirements for a valid offer The first
requirement is definite and certain which mean the offer must specify all the terms of the contract
without leaving ambiguous parts in it because if one of the competent parties misses an important
part of the contract there will be later disagreement. The second requirement is offer must be
communicated to the offeree, an offeror has a several ways to make the offeree know the contract it
may include oral communication, written communication, and also implied communication. For
example, Ahmed entered the juices store when he frequently purchased fresh mango juice. He
takes the bottle of the juice and showed it to the owner who was busy with other customers at the
time the owner nodded her head and smile Ahmed went out from the store .By the owner action, he

Designing A Contractor Management System For A Site Expansion
Design Deficiencies
The following report answers questions on design deficiencies. It will describe three design
disasters and examine the causes of the disaster and the impact they had on future designs. It will
then discuss a design and layout case study and the setting up of a contractor management system
for a site expansion.
Tacoma Bridge Collapse
Brief Description of the Disaster The Tacoma Narrows Bridge(aka Galloping Gertie ) was opened
to traffic on July 1, 1940 and was built to link Tacoma to the Gig Harbour. The Tacoma Bridge
was built with a light design which made it very sensitive to high winds. It lacked the ability to
resist the winds but rather swayed and vibrated with the wind direction (Britton, n.d.). Due the
harmonic phenomena, the swaying of the bridge worsened (Britton, n.d.). Four months after the
opening of the bridge on November 7, 1940, there was a 70 kilimeter per hour wind storm around
the bridge area. The wind caused the bridge to sway and vibrate turbulently from side to side, until
it eventually tore the bridge apart (Britton, n.d.).
Cause of the Disaster The cause of the incident was as result of the structure of the bridge which
could not resist the wind. Rather than resist the wind directional flow, it let the wind pass through it
(Britton, n.d.). As a result, the combined force of the winds and the internal stress in the bridge
structure was far too great for what the bridge could withstand, leading to its self destruction
(Britton,

Women s Destruction In Native American Myth
Myth a traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of people or explaining some
natural or social phenomenon, and typically involving supernatural beings or events. Motif a
distinctive feature or dominant idea in an artistic or literary composition. Destruction the action or
process of causing so much damage to something that it no longer exists or cannot be repaired.
Women since the beginning of time have been blamed and ridiculed for every single thing they do.
But it seems that nobody really has wondered why this is the way it is. Why is it that women are

The most important duties for a city dwelling woman were to bear children preferably male and
to run the household. In the myth Pandora s box, Pandora was created as a punishment to the
mankind. Zeus wanted to punish people because Prometheus stole the fire to give it to mankind.
Her gifts were beautifully evil, according to Hesiod. Hephaestus created her from clay, shaping
her perfectly, Aphrodite gave her femininity and Athena taught her crafts. Hermes was ordered
by Zeus to teach her to be deceitful, stubborn and curious. Pandora was given a box or a jar,
called pithos in Greek. Gods told her that the box contained special gifts from them but she was
not allowed to open the box ever. Then Hermes took her to Epimetheus, brother of Prometheus,
to be his wife. Prometheus had advised Epimetheus not to accept anything from the Gods, but he
saw Pandora and was astonished by her beauty, thus he accepted her right away. Pandora was
trying to tame her curiosity, but at the end, she could not hold herself anymore; she opened the
box and all the illnesses and hardships that gods had hidden in the box started coming out.
Pandora was scared because she saw all the evil spirits coming out and tried to close the box as fast

Proteins Of Bovine Red Blood Cell
Protein Composition in Red Blood Cells in Humans using Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis
Name: Emma Claypole
Date: Wednesday March 16, 2016
Lab Group: W08, Wednesday morning
2
Abstract
The proteins of Bovine red blood cell (RBC) membranes were analyzed using polyacrylamide gel
electrophoresis. After analyzing Bovine RBC they were then compared to human RBC
counterpart. Following finding the log of each molecular weight of each band, band one showed
the highest molecular weight. All five bands viewed were from humans. There are typically 7
bands visible however, in our case only five were visible due to implications within the gel sample.
Introduction
Proteins are important elements in cellular membranes and give the membranes many of their
characteristics. In red blood cells, the meshwork of proteins in and around the membrane gives it
strength and flexibility, allowing a cell to squeeze through small capillaries without bursting. Other
proteins play roles in transporting material in and out of the cell (Lab Manual, Cell Biology).
Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE), with all of its different modifications is probably the
most widely utilized procedure in contemporary biochemistry and molecular biology (Mordacq and
Ellington (1994)). In this experiment, we will attempt to determine the molecular weights of the
major proteins in the plasma membranes of bovine red blood cells (RBCs). The predictions made
are if our protein has similar weights as proteins

Film Analysis Of The Movie Renaissance Man
The film Renaissance Man is directed by Penny Marshall. Renaissance Man was first taken
place in the state of Michigan in the city Detroit where Bill Rago s businessman dream job fails.

because they came from poor backgrounds. But, Bill s knowledge of his favorite Shakespeare s
play Hamlet helps the Double D s a lot and they learn how to comprehend. Even though, Bill
Rago is conceited and does not care or take anything serious at the beginning of the movie Bill
also, listens to what people says even though it does not seem like it he is also, very brilliant
when he puts his mind and heart into his work and deep down he is very caring, which leads to
the Double D s being successful and learning how to comprehend. Bill Rago is very conceited
and full of himself at the beginning of the movie. Bill loses his businessman advertisement dream
job because of his conceitedness. Bill owes people a lot of money, he also is late on some of his
bills. Also, Bill s daughter just wants him to believe in

Types of Family Structure
Understanding Family The type of family structure I grew up in was very traditional and
structured. The family was intact. Mom stayed home and dad went to work in order to make
money to pay the bills. He was always the breadwinner, and mom was a stay at home mom who
took care of the children and the house instead of working outside the home. Both parents were
open minded, warm, and loving, but they were also authoritative and serious about taking care of
the children, the house, and each other. Overall, it was a very effective way to raise a family, and is
being passed along to future generations of my family in order to preserve tradition and show
how things can work out very nicely for people who are interested in keeping to some of the
older ways of raising a family. Both parents do not always have to work for there to be enough
money to survive (Mattox, 1990). It is possible for the mother to stay home, and if she has a lot
of children it might actually be less expensive than paying for daycare (Forbes, 2005). If mom
works but her entire paycheck goes for childcare expenses she has not gained anything. She has
only lost time with her children (Forbes, 2005). While there are not as many moms who stay home
today, there is nothing wrong with mom staying home and dad working. My parents were always
happy with that arrangement and did not see the need to make changes. They were open minded
enough to have made changes, though, if they had both wanted to or if there was

  • 3. Protein Steroid Management Of Patients With A Normal... Pituitary Surgery Perioperative Steroid Management in Patients with a Normal Hypothalamic Pituitary Axis INTRODUCTION Surgery on the pituitary gland and around the sellar region is of special interest to the neurosurgeon. The approach to the gland has evolved over the past 50 years and so has the role of steroids in the perioperative management of these patients. Being one of the organs that play a key role in the hormonal balance of an individual, the neurosurgeon should be particularly careful that all steps must be taken to optimise the hormonal status and also ensure there is no disruption in that balance postoperatively. For more than half a decade the meticulous administration of steroid perioperatively has become common place. Today, however, the old philosophies are being challenged and new philosophies pioneered creating a paradigm shift in the way we manage patient requiring an operation around the sellar region, in particular pituitary surgery. The Birds The Birds, the movie was directed by Alfred Hitchcock and was based on the short story The Birds written by Daphne du Murrier. If you would have read the book and then watched the movie, you would see that very few things are the same. In both the short story and the movie flocks of gulls, robins, crows, and sparrows join each other. This is really weird because different species of birds never work together. He is a man of his own breed who follows his own code of justice disregarding the solid line that stands between right and wrong. Brown is prone to using violence and intimidation to maintain his own idea that he is the unnoticed, underappreciated vigilante for the public. To further the spotlight on the LAPD and Officer Brown, a video was aired on the local television stations of Brown unnecessarily beating an individual who crashed into the back of his police vehicle. The truth of the matter is that placing the blame for the Stock MarketCrash on Mr. Hoover is very unfair. Herbert Hoover was only one of many causes of the Stock Market Crash. It is easy to try to place the blame for one of the most destructive events in the history of the American economy on one person, but the real causes lie in the rampant speculation, the lack of regulation of the stock market, and the questionable ethics of many of the companies and brokers that were involved in the market. Although the 1929 Stock Market Crash is generally blamed on a few scapegoats, it was actually caused by a multitude of factors, which makes finding a scapegoat impossible. • 15. Portrayal Of Women In Media Literacy LITERATURE REVIEW The well known adage which states that If a woman is educated, the whole family gets educated , is very appropriate for Media Literacy. Poverty, gender discrepancies, illiteracy and disconnectivity have left women all over the world helpless when it comes to getting information. Sadly, historically across the globe such discrepancies are not confined to a specific culture, region, country or status. But one thing that has been observed is that this is more obvious in the rural and backward areas (Johnson. N,2013). It is essential that women be harnessed to use technology and thereby included in the big picture of media literacy. Having technology and not being able to use it, is as good as not having it. Developing media skills is equally essential. When women citizens become critical consumers of information, then they would most definitely contribute to public discourse effectively. Another reason is that in developing media skills, women citizens can protect themselves and others from harmful content pushed mainly by new information and communication technologies. Portrayal of Women in Media How women are portrayed or represented in media is also important. Media can play a significant role in sensitizing the society about gender issues. But, before that, the media itself needs to be sensitized in covering women issues. The distribution of power between the two sexes both physical and economic is unequal, leading to discrimination against women. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Nikita Khrushchev s Impact On The Soviet Union Ottepel (the thaw) refers to the period after the death of Stalin, when Nikita Khrushchev loosened control in the Soviet. Causing unprecedented social, cultural, and economic transformations in the Soviet Union, the thaw attempted to initiate policies of de Stalinization. It was a chain of unprecedented steps to free people from fear and dictatorship. Khrushchev s determination to de Stalinize the country led to unexpected consequences as both the political and cultural thaws were ended with the removal of Khrushchev in 1964. These political and cultural ideals helped liberate and change the public consciousness of several generations of people in the Soviet Union. Additionally, Khrushchev s efforts to change the Soviet society and move away from its past served as models for Gorbachev s perestroika and glasnost during his tenure. Two gangly men are exuding energy and life off the stage and onto the crowd. The mass of people at their feet are responding tenfold, dedicated fans who know every word, every beat. They sing (or scream) along, I m trying, I m trying to sleep. But I can t, but I can t when you all have guns for hands. The room is filled with unusual pairs: old and young, black and white, poor and rich. Despite their differences, they are at home with each other, bound by their shared interest in music and life. These lyrics aid in that ah ha moment when people see the world in a new light, or they may serve as reassurance, helping the listener feel understood and less alone. Lyrics can, and should be powerful. The lyrics from Vessel exemplify this power. Every song on the album has at least a few sentences that make listeners stop in their tracks. In some songs, like Migraine or Car Radio, every line does that. Car Radio expands on the idea that Sometimes quiet is violent. It explores the dark places human minds may go if given the opportunity. Migraine speaks on the complexity of life, especially elaborating on the loneliness that accompanies not feeling understood and how that loneliness causes depression while encouraging listeners to hope. Knowing there are others out there listening to this song, thinking the same thoughts, even if they are strangers, alleviates that lonely feeling. Migraine also urges listeners to keep fighting, to never give up on their life goals or on life itself. The only miss on this criteria from the album comes from, ironically, their most popular song, House of Gold. In A Separate Peace John Knowles uses, extended metaphor, foreshadowing, imagery and many other literary devices that give more depths, emotions to the characters, plot and theme in the book. The devices are used by authors to keep the reader more engaged in the novel. A great use of literary devices brings richness, clarity, insight and understanding of the text. In A Separate Peace Gene knew that summer was officially over when Finny fell from the tree. That proved that the rules at Devon were there for a reason, If you broke the rules, then they broke you (66). The meaning of the verbal irony is that with every action you take there are consequences. External conflict is an effective way to build suspense in the novel which keeps the reader turning pages. An external conflict is found is A Separate Peace that Gene encounters, he gets into a brief fight with Cliff Quackenbush after returning from his break and visiting his injured friend, Finny. Gene shows up late at the crew house and Cliff chides him about his tardiness and makes condescending comments, I hit him hard across the face... I tried to throw him off, he lunged at the same time, and we catapulted into the water (79). Gene most likely losses his temper with Quakenbush because of his inner struggle with guilt. The Law Side Of A Human Resource Department Essay Now, to wrap up these two acts/laws that were important to the basis of the law side of a Human Resource Department which were both established before 1991. To provide a food for thought here are a few things to consider, which is that our current president, Barack Obama, not only encourages but also stands by; equal pay, which is an act that was established in 1963, yet women in similar jobs as men still only earn seventy cents to every dollar earned by a man. President Obama is encouraging companies to take an equal pay pledge and has created tools that will lead to more transparency in companies compensation practices. According to an article written in The Huffington Post He has used the bully pulpit his office brings including several State of the Union addresses to educate the country about the harm caused by gender and race based discrimination, bringing these issues out of the shadows and into the national debate (Ness, 2016). It is clear President Obama has done a lot to help women in the workplace; not only women but employees everywhere who are very thankful. Having said that, it is up to the employer s and it s Human Recourse Department to continue to uphold and implement these acts in the workplace even after President Obama is no longer in office. • 34. Compare And Contrast Tsunami And Tsunami Tsunamis are devastating natural disasters which have huge impacts on population. They are series of fast travelling ocean waves of extremely long length and occurs in coastal areas. The word Tsunami comes from two Japanese words meaning harbour wave . Tsunami waves are extremely rapid ocean waves. Although Tsunamis are commonly known as tidal waves, they are actually unrelated to tidal activities. Tsunamis are more common around the Pacific Ocean because of earthquakes and volcanic eruption in the ring of fire. Each year on average, two tsunamis occur around the world. In many ways, Tsunamis are similar to regular waves as they aren t just moving water, they are energy moving through water. The difference is how this energy is formed. Normal ocean waves come from the wind. On the other hand, Tsunamis are caused by energy originating underwater from earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides or meteorite crashes. These underwater activities release massive amounts of energy into the surface which then displaces water, raising it above the average sea level. The waves try escaping, but gravity pulls it back down and makes the energy spread out horizontally. This is when the Tsunami starts heading to the shore. Once a tsunami wave is born, there s no stopping it since the energy generated is massive. When one set of tsunami wave reaches the shoreline, the others catch up due to the compressed energy. These series of waves are called Tsunami wave trains . It is stated that tsunamis sound like standing near a moving freight train. They can travel approximately 700 km/h, faster than a flying jet plane. The waves reach up to about 30 m on average. Although this is very high, there can be waves at a much higher level. They are called Mega Tsunamis . Mega Tsunamis can reach the height of more than 250 m and are usually caused by landslides or large volcanic eruptions. When Tsunamis start to reach the shore, they slow down in speed but increase in height rapidly. Tsunamis are deadly so it is crucial to watch out for different signals. There are tsunami warning systems attached to the buoys in the sea that transmits data and work as a warning system. There are a few other warnings the ocean sends just before the ... History In order to understand the concept behind peacekeeping we have to first look at the history of this UN term and how it got established. The initial kick off year was 1948 (un.org) when the Security Council deployed troops to the Middle East in order to observe the region. It was the outcome of the creation of the state Israel and the rest of the land piece was given and left over to the Palestinian Arabs. One was the leader of the soviet union Khrushchev who said that he wants to launch and shower the west with nuclear weapons. (cbc.ca) After this comment the Council met and tried to find a solution for the problem when the second character came into the scene Lester B. Pearson who later won a Nobel Prize for Peace. He came up with the idea to deploy troops into the conflict area. His words were: A United Nationsforce large enough to keep those borders at peace while a political settlement is being worked out . (cbc.ca) With this idea of conflict resolution he opened the world to the term peacekeeping operations which were from that moment onwards led by united forces. Canada, the home country of Pearson, was present in every single peacekeeping operation conducted by the UN. Continuing onwards from this point in history all the Peace operations during the cold war were a lot of controversy and hate was dominating the Security Council which was a big problem for the represented countries. After the first armed Peace keeping mission was successfully implemented in the Suez Canal it seemed like that all nations and countries wanted to participate in the next one as they gained respect. After 1956 and the Suez crisis cooled down the Congo crisis arose in 1960 which was the first large scale mission which included around 20.000 soldiers. • 36. Commodity Fetishism In Harry Potter By Turner-Vorbeck The fundamental implication at work here is that their needs be nothing aesthetically valuable or unique about that upon which an imposed phenomena is generated. Is it something special about the Harry Potter books that has caused such a sensation or is the sensation artificially manufactured and simply centered around them? An understanding of commodity fetishism supports the latter position. If the Harry Potterbooks were, indeed, worthy of such widespread adulation, then the support for them would have naturally risen up from the readers rather than being pushed down upon them by mass media marketing (Turner Vorbeck, 8) I noticed that here Turner Vorbeck is assuming who her audience is by the language that she is using. To me, the words and phrases that she uses indicate that she assumes that academics are the only ones who are going to be reading her essay. Her language is not inherently difficult to understand, it s not something I could envision seeing in a newspaper or magazine where millions of everyday people would read it. I also noted that in this particular passage Turner Vorbeck uses a rhetorical question, the question being Is it something special about the Harry Potter books that has caused a sensation or is the sensation artificially manufactured and simply centered around them? (Turner Vorbeck, 8). While she knows we as the readers will not have an answer to that question, she uses this to set up her next claim: that the Harry Potter books are not good ... Offer and acceptance There are six elements of an enforceable contract and we will discuss one of them which is offer and acceptance. As we learned in the class offer and acceptance defined as a proposal made by one party to another party that designates a disposition to enter into a contract and a designation made by the offeree that he or she concurs to be bound by the terms of the offer . This research, will discuss the requirement for a valid offer and acceptance, bid, advertising and public offer and termination of an offer. Requirements for a valid offer The first requirement is definite and certain which mean the offer must specify all the terms of the contract without leaving ambiguous parts in it because if one of the competent parties misses an important part of the contract there will be later disagreement. The second requirement is offer must be communicated to the offeree, an offeror has a several ways to make the offeree know the contract it may include oral communication, written communication, and also implied communication. It will describe three design disasters and examine the causes of the disaster and the impact they had on future designs. It will then discuss a design and layout case study and the setting up of a contractor management system for a site expansion. Tacoma Bridge Collapse Brief Description of the Disaster The Tacoma Narrows Bridge(aka Galloping Gertie ) was opened to traffic on July 1, 1940 and was built to link Tacoma to the Gig Harbour. The Tacoma Bridge was built with a light design which made it very sensitive to high winds. It lacked the ability to resist the winds but rather swayed and vibrated with the wind direction (Britton, n.d.). Due the harmonic phenomena, the swaying of the bridge worsened (Britton, n.d.). Four months after the opening of the bridge on November 7, 1940, there was a 70 kilimeter per hour wind storm around the bridge area. The wind caused the bridge to sway and vibrate turbulently from side to side, until it eventually tore the bridge apart (Britton, n.d.). Cause of the Disaster The cause of the incident was as result of the structure of the bridge which could not resist the wind. Rather than resist the wind directional flow, it let the wind pass through it (Britton, n.d.). As a result, the combined force of the winds and the internal stress in the bridge structure was far too great for what the bridge could withstand, leading to its self destruction (Britton, ... Proteins Of Bovine Red Blood Cell Protein Composition in Red Blood Cells in Humans using Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis Name: Emma Claypole Date: Wednesday March 16, 2016 Lab Group: W08, Wednesday morning 2 Abstract The proteins of Bovine red blood cell (RBC) membranes were analyzed using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. After analyzing Bovine RBC they were then compared to human RBC counterpart. Following finding the log of each molecular weight of each band, band one showed the highest molecular weight. All five bands viewed were from humans. There are typically 7 bands visible however, in our case only five were visible due to implications within the gel sample. Introduction Proteins are important elements in cellular membranes and give the membranes many of their characteristics. In red blood cells, the meshwork of proteins in and around the membrane gives it strength and flexibility, allowing a cell to squeeze through small capillaries without bursting. Other proteins play roles in transporting material in and out of the cell (Lab Manual, Cell Biology). Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE), with all of its different modifications is probably the most widely utilized procedure in contemporary biochemistry and molecular biology (Mordacq and Ellington (1994)). Both parents were open minded, warm, and loving, but they were also authoritative and serious about taking care of the children, the house, and each other. Overall, it was a very effective way to raise a family, and is being passed along to future generations of my family in order to preserve tradition and show how things can work out very nicely for people who are interested in keeping to some of the older ways of raising a family. Both parents do not always have to work for there to be enough money to survive (Mattox, 1990).
