Narrative Essay About Running Record
I am exhausted. I have worked with a group of teachers today who hate using running records. I
know what my kids can and can not do , they exclaimed. Why does the district have us doing all of
this silliness? , they continued. As soon as we begin the running record process; mindsets begin to
change. I sit on one end of the table and the classroom teacher sits on the other side. Our model
students placed in between us. District administrators join us.
The teacher begins the running record protocol as the other educators observe the process. Our star
student waits patiently for his turn at being the center of attention. The teacher places the sample
story in front of the student. A running record form is neatly placed in front of the teacher.

Essay about Salvation by Langston Hughes
Salvation by Langston Hughes
Salvation , by Langston Hughes is part of an autobiographical work written in 1940. The author
narrates a story centering on a revival gathering that happened in his childhood. During the days
leading up to the event, Hughes aunt tells him repeatedly that he will be saved , stressing that he will
see a light and Jesus will come into his life. He attends the meeting but when Jesus fails to appear,
he is forced by peer pressure to lie and go up and be saved . Hughes uses his story to illustrate how
easy it is for children to misinterpret adults and subsequently become disillusioned.
Adults sometimes forget that children communicate on a much more literal level than they do; their
conversation is often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As time passed the congregation became more and more animated, wailing for Hughes to come up
and be saved. Hughes became more and more impatient and extremely agitated. At the same time
he must have been very curious as to why all the others were going up to the altar.
During childhood we begin to learn the meaning of integrity. Having patiently awaited Jesus?
appearance for what must have seemed an interminable amount of time, the pressure on Hughes to
get up and go to the altar must have been ponderous. Finally, when Jesus failed to make an
appearance that evening Hughes had a choice of continuing to wait or rising and satisfying the
expectations of the congregation. In making his decision to approach the altar, Hughes is fearful,
as most children are when disobeying the ?rules?. Hughes? reticence in coming forward probably
reflects his type of up bringing, and he watches his friend to see what punishment God will mete
out and bases his decision on the fact that nothing appears to happen. In embracing his friend
Westley?s deception, in being saved without seeing Jesus, and because of his own up bringing,
Hughes had to acknowledge his own dishonesty.
Children trust the words of adults and despite the misunderstanding associated with the words his
aunt used, Hughes believed her unquestionably. Later that evening when his aunt heard Hughes
crying in bed, she assumed it is because he had been moved by his experience at church in receiving

Comparison Of Mexico And Brazil Essay
Brazil and Mexico are both the giants of their geographic realms (de Blij and Muller 219,254).
Mexico constitutes an entire geographic region of Middle America (200). The country of Brazil is
also considered a single region in South America (239). Both of these regions have very large
populations in comparison to the other regionsof their realms. Mexico s current population of 102
million people has more than doubled in size since 1970 (219). Brazil s estimated population is
currently near 167 million people (254). The populationsof both regions are becoming increasingly
more urban in character. At least seventy four percent of Mexico s population resides in cities or
towns (220). Similarly in Brazil, eighty percent of the population... Show more content on

Brazil lacked the large work force provided by the greater Amerindian population of Mexico. The
Amerindians of Mexico were already familiar with working for native overlords, making the
transition to working under a Spanish overlord a relatively smooth process (Suchlicki 31). To
compensate for the lack of an indigenous work force, the Portuguese began to bring African slaves
into Brazil as early as 1433. Out of the total population of the Brazilian colony in 1585 numbering
some 57,000 people, 14,000 were African slaves (Burns 49). Although the Spanish who colonized
Mexico were by no means innocent of enslaving Africans, the large numbers of Amerindians
provided the bulk of the work force on Mexican plantations (Suchlicki 31).
These historical differences in the regions of Brazil and Mexico are still evident in their
populations of today. The Amerindian influence is strong in Mexico. While only ten percent of the
population is full Amerindian (de Blij and Muller 220), the cultural influence remains greater than
in Brazil. Less than one percent of the population is full Amerindian in Brazil (Microsoft Encarta).
The population of Mexico is largely mestizo, people with mixed European and Amerindian
ancestries (de Blij and Muller 220). The population of Brazil is much more diverse; it is more
heavily influenced by European immigrations. The large numbers of slaves brought into Brazil
from Africa have maintained their

Comparing Black Elk Speaks and The Lone Ranger and Tonto FistFight in Heaven
Traditionally, Native American Literature has been an oral genre. Although Native American
Literature was the first American literature created, it has been the last to be recognized and, to
some extent, is still waiting for full recognition (www.usc.edu). With the Indian being forced to
assimilate, their literature was forced to take on a written form. Although the traditional way of
storytelling has changed, Native American Literature has survived. In it s written form, it is being
shared with a larger population. Black Elk Speaks (Neihardt 1932) and The Lone Ranger and Tonto

In the story The Trial of Thomas Builds the Fire, Thomas is put on trial for unnamed crimes. In his
testimony, he assumes several personae, including the voice of one of 800 ponies captured and
slaughtered by the U.S. Cavalry. He is also Qualchan and Wild Coyote, telling stories of murder,
extermination, and dispossession (Whitson, 132). This shows that the Indian still holds on to the
hurt and loss they have suffered. They cannot and will not forget what their ancestors went through
to survive.
Another area the two books share is humor. Humor is needed in order to cope with loss and
move forward. Although we see more humor in The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in
Heaven, Black Elk Speaks has some humorous stories. For example, I found the story of High
Horse s Courting very humorous. High Horse wants to take a young Indian maiden for his wife.
He goes to her father and offers him two horses for the girl. The old man waves him off. He goes
back and offers four horses. Still, the old man is not impressed. High Horse wants his girl so bad
that he goes out and steals about a hundred horses. High Horse proved himself and got the girl. It
was not the horses her father wanted, but he wanted a son who was a real man and

The opening of Rick Steve s tour is quite different in the sense that while both start in a dramatic
style and exaggeration in the opening sentence. the Louvre Museum (2) Rick Steves P55 L1 is
dramatic as the reciting the name and a pause to build tension and excitement is similar to the
opening of On Paris in the sense that it starts off with a one word sentence, which in this case was
Paris . Another similarity is that the audiences are most likely the same in the sense that it is written

The Importance Of Art In Art
In the rather limited amount of years I ve been on this Earth, I have found myself drawn to the
world of creativity. I kept it in my pocket constantly, always knowing that I d need creative
insight in this world to solve difficult problems. I always had art as an outlet for many things,
and soon I became addicted to colors, shades, and designs. It s very important to me, and I hope
to go further with it. To me, it is vexing when others hold an obvious distaste for trying anything
new or creative. I don t hope to change these individual s minds, as that would be impossible, but
rather, I hope to educate them on why having a creative, or artistic sense the new sixth sense if
you will, is vital to being a part of society. Being creative, or artistic, is important, because it
allows me to break away from the stubborn rules society has forced upon us. When I draw, I have
no boundaries other than what I give myself. I don t have to restrain what I draw, as no one else
will see it unless I want them to. It s important to have this break from the real world because
without it, the world seems very bleak and downright sorrowful. Artistic values are a necessity
to me, because without them, I wouldn t have as many opportunities to better the world around
me. Art provides many career paths, such as comic books, or even advertising. Every art
community can have a huge impact on people s daily lives, without them even realizing it. Take
for instance, the billboard you drive by every day to work, or the comic strips you read on your
Sunday paper. Though seemingly insignificant in your eyes, they are so important in the way you
make decisions. When advertisements on TV are shown, no one really thinks about the artistic
aspects the creators use to influence decisions. A prime example of this, that everyone knows
purely by the now recognizable song, is Sarah McLachlan s ASPCA commercial seen constantly,
with the same set up. But what everyone might not know, is that it took creative insight to pair the
sad puppy images, with the depressing song. The artists knew that these things would guide you to
feel sympathetic, and maybe even adopt a puppy. The world would be very different if there were
no artists to create these. It

Teams Are An Integral Part Of Most Business Situations
In all employment situations, there will be circumstances where an employee will find themselves
on a team with a specific problem to solve or goal to reach. Teams are an integral part of most
business situations. Leadership within the respective organization often creates teams. The way
that the leadershipinteracts with the teams can affect how cohesive the team is and if they reach
their goals. These two groups can cause a business to succeed or fail.
Teams
Utilizing teamwork has been a key to the success of our military for many years. The most
effective of these is the cross functional team. This is a team comprised of, employees from about
the same hierarchical level, but from different work areas, who come together to accomplish a task.
(Robbins Judge, 2009) One of these teams I was a part of was involved in ensuring a large multi
agency training event occurred without any problems. This event involved the Active Army, Army
Reserves, Army National Guard, Active Air Force, Air Force National Guard, Marine Corps, local
fire departments, local law enforcement agencies, and the Departments of Emergency Management
from multiple states. It had national military and civilian leaders that came to watch the outcome.
This extremely high stress situation was accomplished through teamwork and planning. The event
was checking the response of the agencies to a natural disaster situation. The meetings that we had
were to ensure that everything was provided for

Target Advertising Essay
If you expect to exceed your sales goals, you can t rely solely on the traffic you receive from your
offline advertising. Offline advertising is still effective, but in the digital age, it s no longer enough.
Consumers have a wealth of tools and information at their fingertips. That means you have to find
new ways to grab their attention before they use those tools to make their way to your competition.
The best way to do just that in the digital age is by generating engagements. However, before you
can do that you have to cut through all the advertising clutter that inundates buyers.
You can begin by finding unique ways to promote your vehicles and services. There are several

Air Arms Fire Was Hit By Enemy Fire
As we were ending a meeting with the local elders, my platoon was hit by enemy fire. This was
the Konar River Valley. Only one road traveled north from our Combat Outpost (COP) towards
the main FOB. On the east side were cliffs that would send you plummeting down towards the
Konar River. The other side of the road varied between sharp cliffs to rolling hills that all
inevitably jutted upward to the mountainous landscape adjacent to us. We were afforded Mine
Resistant Armor Protected vehicles (MRAPs) that protected us from most of the harm during our
transit to the various towns and city centers along the river. We were beginning to load back into
the trucks to begin our move back to the COP. That s when the shots rang out. Both... Show more

back. Regardless of the nature of the injury, we would treat our ANA counterparts as we would

vehicles with ammunition and cleaning them back out from the prior engagement, we got a call
from our Company Commander. He wanted us to head back out immediately to conduct another
mission in the same area. He wanted us to move up the mountainside to a village just above a
valley where we were receiving the enemy fire from. He wanted us to engage the local elders

them the advantage of concentrating on ideas. The student leans how the order of patterns in letters
represent vowel sounds and other spelling patterns. Students should have both spelling and
vocabulary words. Spelling tests are a great way to assess students. Teacher can encourage students
to use spelling strategies when spelling unfamiliar words. Teachers should add 10 15 new
vocabulary words a week. Students can use dictionaries and word studies to develop a deeper
understanding of new words. Student study homophones, homonyms, and homographs in this
stage. The teacher should also use sophisticated language during interactions. Sequence and Pacing

Triumph of Good in Captain Corelli s Mandolin Essay
Triumph of Good in Captain Corelli s Mandolin
Despite a backdrop of war, many characters in Captain Corelli s Mandolin are essentially good.
This goodness in many characters overcomes the difficulties within relationships and the difficulties
posed by war. De BerniГЁres shows the triumphant nature of this goodness through his characters
as they interact and develop relationships with one another. The island of Cephallonia has been able
to survive through a history full of invasions. Its population has triumphed and shows itself to be
basically good. Although at one point they ridicule Father Arsenios when Velisarios humiliates him

Close to Pelagia s heart, he is kind towards Psipsina and Lemoni. If Psipsina sat on a piece of the
captain s music, he would go away and fetch another sheet rather than disturb her. Not only is this
an example of Corelli s basic kind nature, but also of his ability to become part of the family in
Cephallonia and relax into the Greek lifestyle.
Corelli is also able to relate to all ages as he demonstrates through his kindness towards Lemoni.
He plays with the child and is untiring in his attentions as she drags him out to see any piece of
rusty metal that might be another Turkish mine. Despite being a captain of the enemy he is
concerned for all the children of the island.
The captain s only apparently vicious actions and reprimands occur towards the soldiers. He
explains that this is because he is compassionate towards the victims of the soldiers torments.
Corelli only punishes soldiers in relatively extreme ways because he is so angry that they can
ignore the fundamental levels of civility and goodness. He is able to continue to show this kind
of reaction as an example as he ascends in Pelagia s view as Mandras descends into a militant who
will harm others for no reason.
Another element of Corelli s goodness is that allows himself to love although he has fallen in love
with a Greek girl. He is unable to be angry with Pelagia, even though in her confused state about

Pros And Cons Of The Gilded Age
Looking at the Bigger Picture In the late 18th to the early 19th century, some people were
desperate to make money fast. Populations were growing so rapidly, and people struggled to make
enough living for their families. In conjunction, the United States tried to transition into a more
modern and efficient world. This resulted in new ideas and inventions, in hopes to make living
easier in a changing world. This period of time was known as the Gilded Age. Nineteenth century
entrepreneurs are captains of industry based on their ability to boost the economy, the standard of
living increased, and the lasting impression they made on America.
Looking at entrepreneurs as robber barons is somewhat credible because of businessmen s
tendency to claw their way to the top, despite hurting others along the way. However, on the
opposite side of the spectrum, the jobs provided by these entrepreneurs ended up helping the
American economy. Business owners were responsible for, the American economy [to grow and

small nation, but due to mainly business, America was able to surpass even larger nations. Other

The Hoovers In John Ginsberg s Little Miss Sunshine
A person s determination for self fulfillment is not always a personal desire; in fact, the values
associated with personal fulfillment is a by product of society and its culture. In Little Miss
Sunshine, the Hoovers who are fairly dysfunctional, lower middle class family offer their aid to
support their relative Frank Ginsberg, a suicidal homosexual and former Marcel Proust scholar.
Despite the family having a lack of shared values in the beginning, the Hoovers unexpectedly take
a road trip from New Mexico to California in order to fulfill Olivia s, their daughter, desire to
participate in the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant. Throughout the Hoover s trip to California,
minor events precipitate into major dilemmas and personal setbacks for each character. Each

Application, And Assessment Of Current And Projected...
This course focused on the understanding, application, and assessment of current and projected
styles of curriculum.
Proposition 3: Teachers motivate, manage, and monitor student learning.
Indicator 3b: Teachers manage the learning environment by engaging students and organizing
instruction.
Indicator 3c: Teachers use multiple methods of for monitoring and measuring student understanding
and make informed decisions about instruction.
After examining the Understanding by Design framework by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe, I
have learned how to develop a unit by working backwards. The development of a unit is multi
layered in its focus on curriculum, instruction, and assessment. In planning I need to first assess
what the big ideas are that I want my students to learn and why they are important. In our study of
Mesopotamia, we look at how our world began with the first civilization and the achievements that
led to advances throughout history. The big ideas framed as understandings that I want my students
to know are that the locations of civilizations and city states in relation to specific landforms affect
development and technology achievements can benefit society in a variety of areas. Then I look at
what essential questions are raised and what I want students to know and be able to do. The
framework looks to deepen student understanding and transfer that understanding of knowledge and
skill into a performance task and other evidence of formative and summative

Essay on Rewriting History in Henry IV
Rewriting History in Henry IV
The master of historiography is, perhaps, Shakespeare as evidenced by his History Plays.
Whereas most writers merely borrow from history to fuel their creative fires, Shakespeare goes
so far as to rewrite history. The First Part of Henry the Fourth follows history fairly closely, and
Shakespeare draws this history primarily from Raphael Holinshed s Chronicle of England,
Scotland, and Ireland and from Samuel Daniel s verse epic The Civil Wars(Abrams 823).
The play opens shortly after Henry Bolingbroke has usurped the throne from Richard II, becoming
the fourth King Henry, and changing the royal lineage from the House of Plantagenet to the House
of Lancaster. In the opening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the most part, Shakespeare did indeed fabricate Falstaff, Poins, and the whole Tavern Group,
yet historical evidence does support some sort of provincial getaway. McFarlane records that in
1412 the younger Henry remained dissatisfied [with his father] and shortly afterwards withdrew
once more into the provinces, where he was soon again at his old tricks (110). Shakespeare
originally named the character of Falstaff after the Protestant martyr John Oldcastle. Shakespeare
eventually bowed to the objections of Oldcastle s descendants, renaming the character (Abrams
823).
At the Battle of Shrewsbury, Shakespeare describes how Hal kills Hotspur, eulogizes him
(5.4.78 102), and then concedes the victory of the kill to Falstaff (5.4.138 50). History records
that Hal himself suffered an arrow shot to the face (Rowse 44) and that no one knows for
certain who killed Hotspur (Jacob 52 3). History further records that, as for the eulogy, it was the
king who shed tears over Hotspur s slain figure, not the young prince (Rowse 45). Despite
Hotspur being three years older than Hal s father (Hotspur died at age thirty nine) (Rowse 44),
Shakespeare paints the portrait of Hotspur and Hal as contemporaries, following poet Daniel s lead
(Drabble 475). Rowse does note, however, that Shakespeare did capture the essence in Hotspur of
something not grown up about this fighting man, who

United States Voting System
(a) The political cartoon depicts Ralph Nader, a third party candidate who ran in the 2000 election,
addressing America s throw away mentality. Meanwhile, a woman in the background is ironically
casting her vote into a trash can labeled Green Party Votes. Since the Unites States has a two party
system, the vast majority of our country votes for major party candidates. Therefore, the point of
view being expressed about minor parties is that votingfor a third party is throwing away a vote.
For example, when Ralph Nader ran in the 2000 election, he had nowhere near the number of votes
needed to even compete with the major party candidates. So, he ultimately took votes away from
the major party candidates, which could have possibly changed the outcome of that presidential
election.
(b) Two rules of the United States electoral system that act as obstacles for minor party candidates

Because they have an unlikely chance of winning a presidential election, minor parties can take
chances and promote an idea to a larger degree than major parties would. Therefore, they can
introduce different ideas or issues that may not be mirrored by the platforms of the two major
parties. An example of this is when The Socialist Party introduced the notion of a 40 hour work
week in regards to child labor laws in the early 1900s, which led to the Fair Labor Standards Act
of 1938. They can also shift national attention to particular issues by pushing major parties to
include underrepresented concerns or groups. In other words, they often push major parties to
adapt their policies to include third party stances. So, when one of the two major parties win, third
party voters may still get what they want if issues that fit many peoples ideologies are

Families/ Groups
Columns of elements are called families or groups. Elements in the family have similar that are not
identical properties. For example, Lithium (LI) Sodium (NA), Potassium (K), and some other
members of group s family are soft with white shiny metals. The elements in the family have the
same amount of numbers of outer electrons.
Each horizontal row of the elements is called a period. The elements in the period are not like in
properties. In fact, the properties change greatly across even given row (periodicity). The first
element in the period is always an extremely solid that is active. The last element in the period is
always an inactive gas. Each new period will represent the next shell fall of electrons which will
fill the period.

Hydrogen rests at the summit of group yet it is not a representative of that family. Hydrogen is

Purpose Of Selecting A Program
The purpose of selecting this program is to deepen my studies in sustainability in detailed.
Nowadays, sustainability is a topic which research is still maturing, and designs are relatively
new. The intent of this study emphasises in ruralisation of current urban cities by creating an
environment that would allow the residents to benefit from its geographical and urban function
stressing the creation of one system. Cities in the US and around the world have developed
significantly that much of the land has transformed into Metro areas. In addition to 3 million
people or greater living in these cities, people have exhausted their options and had no alternative
but to rely on high rise architecture. Many architects and landscape architects, focus their careers
trying to create sustainable cities but are still limited by the maximum space they can utilise.
Others emphasise the incorporation of biophilic mediums to solve the problem, then again, these
are very restricted to the site. As land in some countries are finite and are reaching their
maximum capacities, this will potentially become a problem that must be solved. As innovative
developments in these cities cease, buildings are stacked, rooms miniaturised, and even expand to
restricting areas to accommodate as many people as possible. Families of four or more members
settle in places where room sizes parallel those of an individual living quarters in low density areas.
These areas create an urban sprawl development that

Asian Athlete Stereotypes
In US sports, Asian or Asian American athletes are almost nonexistent, particularly in basketball,
football, and hockey. When they do appear, these athletes may be devalued, dismissed, and/or
simply go unnoticed and unconsidered. In a sports world dominated by Black and White, Asian
athletes are being denied roles due to their perceived abilities. According to The Jeremy Lin Effect:
Being an Asian Sport Psychology Consultant in a Black and White World , Alexander Brian Yu,

Because individuals in sports who make the roster decisions have such high power they tend to
overlook, under respect, or devalue others because of those persons races and/or ethnicities.
These are subtle forms of racism that may not be known by anyone as a conscious action, but are
created by negative stereotypes. This presents itself in sports especially because of how big of a
discrepancy there is between the number of Asians and the amount of Whites and Blacks in
professional sports in the United States. I can agree with the point that stereotypes are decreasing
the opportunities for Asians in sports. Whether you want to deny it or not, Asians are not viewed
as the primary choice for any athletic event in the United States, and that is shown especially in
the NBA where there is only one Asian player on a roster, Jeremy Lin. Although I do want to point
out that the discrepancy there is that in the United States White and Black races make up a much
larger part of the population than Asians do; therefore, there is a statistically smaller chance for an
Asian in the United States to have the talent to play professional sports than a White or

The Use of Home Mechanical Ventilation to Manage Chronic...
Home mechanical ventilation (HMV) has been used as long term ventilation for over 70 years to
manage chronic ventilatory failure. In the United States, the first introduce of mechanical
ventilation was by the use of the iron lung which used with polio victims (Tobin, 2006). Iron lung
was the only way available that time to ventilate Poliomyelitis patients and injured army soldiers
(Goldberg, 2002).In 1950s, the use of intermittent positive pressure ventilation with mouth piece

Long Term Mechanical Ventilation
The concept of long term mechanical ventilation has two clinical aspects: Mandatory; which is
use during true life support and elective; which is use to manage patients with chronic ventilator
failure and sleep apnea. In mandatory base, invasive approach is the most common (Tobin,
2006). However, home mechanical ventilation (HMV) can be delivered by either invasive or
noninvasive route of ventilation. In some centers, if the need for HMV use exceeds 16 20 hours
per day, the change to invasive mechanical ventilation will be considered. In general, the use of
non invasive ventilation (NIV) is more preferred than the use of invasive route of ventilation (M.
Laub, Berg, Midgren, 2006). Noninvasive technology is easy to be learned and to be used by the
patients and the family and it needs less professional presence on the care site, these problems
could be solved now a day with the implementation of telehealth care system which supports and
monitors patients and families at home (Goldberg, 2002).

Examples Of Shareholder Value Analysis
The Shareholder Value Analysis (SVA) was created in 1986 by Dr. Alfred Rappaport and LEK
/Alcar Consulting Group. Dr. Rappaport presented the idea of Shareholder Value Analysis (SVA)
in his book Creating Shareholder Value in 1986. It is based on the Discounted Cash Flow Model.
It has gained publicity and it s now an established performance measurement tool. However, it is
not as widely used as the Economic Value Added method (EVA). The basis of Shareholder Value
Analysis (SVA) is probably almost the same as Economic Value Added (EVA) (www.5paisa.com
/scho/ch09.html,www.lek.com)
The principle behind Shareholder Value Analysis (SVA) is to discount estimated future cash flows
in order to calculate present value and hence to achieve continuous calculation of the value of the
firm. Measurement of the current ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to calculate the shareholder value the values of marketable security along with other
investment have to be added together but the value of debt has to be subtracted from the valuation
of the business. Free cash flow gives an idea about the cash flows from the operation of a business
for a particular period under consideration. However, this free cash flow will not take into account,
financing related cash flows which include cash flows from issues of shares or issue of debt,
dividend and interest payment etc (www.cimaglobal.com, 2004).
Shareholder Value Analysis (SVA) can be defined as the difference between wealth created for the
shareholder for a particular period when compared to wealth created for the shareholder at the end
of the previous period. Therefore, the difference in the wealth created in the shareholders between
two periods gives an idea about the true economic wealth that is created for the shareholder as well

Developmental Disabilities Research Paper
Developmental Disabilities
Developmental disabilities include several types of conditions due to impairment in physical,
learning, language, or behavior areas. These conditions usually begin during the developmental
period, may impact daily functioning, and most of the time last throughout a person s lifetime.
Most developmental disabilities begin before a baby is born, but can also happen after birth due to
injury, infection, or other risk factors. It is very important that the mother takes care of herself
during her pregnancy to prevent or reduce the chances for her baby developing a disability. All the
different types of developmental disabilities will be explained and discussed throughout the
research paper.
As previously stated most developmental disabilities are caused by a mix of factors. These factors
include genetics, parental health and behaviors such as smoking and drinking during pregnancy,
complications during birth, or infections the mother might have during the pregnancy or the baby
might have very early in life. For some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay On Muscle Growth
How do Muscles Grow? It would seem in the 21st Century there would be a clear answer to this
question. Although there is an enormous amount of research on the subject. The answer is not so
clear cut. Stem cell research has shed a great deal of light on what can effect positive growth in
muscle tissue. (15) The whole complete process on how skeletal muscletissue responds to
increasing loads is not known.
The amazing process of skeletal muscle cell hypotrophy is a multi level consideration, which opens
the potential to unlock the key to anti aging and longevity. (15) Skeletal muscle cell or fiber

mass is known as atrophy.

With aerobic exercise the cardiac muscle improves its ability to push more blood volume out of the
heart chambers. Skeletal muscle on the other hand become more efficient at transmitting force
through the tendons, ligaments and joints. (13) The two main functions of skeletal muscle fibers
are to produce contraction that moves a joint resulting in locomotion of the human form and to
provide for stability and posture within the body.
Each skeletal muscle within the human body must generate a different force from a unique level
of tension in order to accomplish this remarkable feat. How muscles grow plays a dominant role
within the balance of this system. Each skeletal muscle is able to adapt to variable loads by
increasing the size and the amount of contractile proteins within the muscle fiber.
The Physiological Factors that Effect How Muscles Grow
In discussing skeletal muscle cell physiology it is necessary to introduce the role and interaction
of satellite cells, as well as provide an overview of the immune response and growth factor
proteins. In addition, to develop a more complete picture it is necessary to discuss cortisol, growth
hormone and testosterone. Each of these factors will help to expand our understanding of how
muscles grow.
Satellite cells are not found in cardiac (heart) muscle tissue. Satellite cells are only activated when
skeletal muscle cells (fibers) are damaged. (6) Their

These separate forms of the condition come with distinct traits that vary from one to the next.
Dilated cardiomyopathy, The most common form, this occurs when the muscle fibers of one or
both pumping chambers are weak and unable to contract normally ( Understand Pediatric 1). Which
means that the heart beats abnormally due to lack of blood flow. Often with DCM the heart is weak
and fails because it cannot sufficiently pump blood throughout the body ( Understanding Pediatric
1). The article on Understanding Pediatric Cardiomyopathy states that hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
is the second most common form. HCM has a few characteristics that can be mistaken for dilated
cardiomyopathy. Thick and stiff muscles may stop the heart from contracting properly, which may
narrow the passageways for blood to move out of the heart ( Understanding Pediatric 1). So, the
muscles within the heart thicken to try and help blood flow. In an advanced form of hypertrophic
cardiomyopathy, there is a chance that the muscles may thin to try to help the poor pumping action
( Understanding Pediatric 1). When HCM tries to help the body it, in itself, can cause failure. A

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Report
The name of the disease that I have selected to write this disease paper about is acute respiratory
distress syndrome. Acute respiratory distress syndrome according to our text book Respiratory
Care Principles and Practice by Dean Hess states that acute respiratory distress syndrome is
characterized by the abrupt onset of respiratory distress; associated with severe hypoxemia and
diffuse pulmonary opacities on chest radio graph that are not caused by congestive heart failure
or volume over load; Pao2 200 MMHG. (Hess, 1287). Acute respiratory distress syndrome is
respiratory insufficiency marked by progressive hypoxemia due to severe inflammatory damage
causing abnormal permeability of the alveolocapillary membrane. The alveoli fill with fluid, which
interferes with gas exchange. ETIOLOGY according to Taber s medical dictionary, acute respiratory
distress syndrome can typically be a result of or from trauma to the lungs for example in situations
like near drowning, aspiration of gastric acids, and severe lung infection or systemic disorder.
Shock, septicemia, disseminated intravascular coagulation, cardiopulmonary bypass or reaction to
blood transfusions. Widespread damage to the alveolocapillary membranes is initiated through the
aggregation and activity of neutrophils and macrophages and the activation of complement.

The Doping Of Semiconductor By Rare Earth Metal Nanoparticle
The doping of semiconductor by rare earth metal nanoparticle is an effective way for increasing
photocatalytic activity. Zinc oxide and Lanthanum doped Zinc oxide nanoparticles were
synthesized by modifying the gel combustion method. It was found that La can greatly enhance the
cytotoxicity and photocatalytic activity of ZnO nanoparticles towards various cell lines and
paracetamol drug. These nanoparticles were characterized by various spectroscopic and other
techniques which clearly revealed the presence of lanthanumions. The absorption edge shifts
towards the visible region after doping with La ions. This shift shows that the doping of La ions is
favorable for absorbing the visible light. The comparative photocatalytic and cytotoxicity activity
revealed that La doped ZnO nanoparticles remarkably enhanced activities as compared to the ZnO
nanoparticles. The outcome of these studies offers valuable for planning La doped ZnO
nanoparticles having cytotoxicity and photocatalytic activities helpful for the formulation of
anticancer product and wastewater remediation.

How Did The Silk Road Affect Long Distance Trade
The Silk Road:
The Silk Road was a road used for long distance trade between countries in central Asia. As the
cities grew and flourished, long distance travel was used to share customs with other places, and

them to China, so that they could adopt them and use them for their own use, and also for trade.

Comparing The Soldier And Dulce Et Decorum Est
In The Soldier and Dulce et Decorum est both poets treat their subject differently. Both of the
poems express the authors perception of war; Owen s being about its bitter reality and brutality and
Brooke s about the glorification of dying for your country. The poets express their sentiments on the
subject matter in terms of language, tone, rhyme, rhythm and structure. Alliteration is used in both
poems to establish rhythm and to reinforce the tone. The rhyme scheme used by both authors is

The eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD was a pyroclastic event discussed in greater detail over
the course of this essay.
Mount Vesuvius is located on the southern coast of Italy, 1,281 metres above the Bay of Naples on
the plain of Campania between the Apennine Mountains and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Mount Vesuviusis
part of the Romana volcanic belt which covers about 450km from Mount Amatia, 130km from
north west Rome and 110km from East Naples. The Romana volcanic belt is made up of two
parallel volcanic scars. Mount Vesuvius is on the Western arc. This zone is highly fractured which
allows magma to rise up into the magma chamber beneath Mount Vesuvius. This chamber is
thought to be approximately 5km below the volcano and almost 2km high with a diameter of
around 1km. The volcano is situated where two faults in the Earth s crust converge. (De Boer and
Sanders, 2002)
Development of Mount Vesuvius
Mount Vesuvius developed inside the caldera of an older volcano. This volcano was known as
Monte Somma. Monte Somma became active around 400,000 years ago. Only the northern side
of Monte Somma is left, creating a wall like ridge around the northern edge of Mount Vesuvius.
This feature can be observed today at the site of Mount Vesuvius. The development of Vesuvius
produced a volcanic complex consisting of the two volcanoes. (De Boer and Sanders, 2002)
Suggested Causes of the 79 AD Eruption
Mount Vesuvius is located on top of a fault where the lithosphere is being

What is the New Testament? Is there one New Testament Message? F. F. Bruce addresses these
questions in his book, The Message of the New Testament. He answers the first question quickly in
the prologue stating, To Christians, it is the second and shorter division of their sacred scriptures,
God s Word written (11). Bruce dedicates this work to answering the... Show more content on

All of Paul s epistles speak to God s grace, but in these pastoral letters, Bruce views the main
contribution to be the church as a firm foundation on which God stands, a church not merely as an
institution for the dispensing of the means of grace, (44) but a church as a community instructed,
practiced, organized and administered as it grows as a community of ordinary men and women:
who have the saving grace of Christ in common and await Jesus return. In chapter five of his book,
Bruce turns to Luke s writings in the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the apostles where Luke
declares Christianity as a faith for the whole world, not just the Jews who pressured the Roman
government to execute Jesus. The Gospel of Luke, itself is the gospel to the underprivileged. In
defending the faith and Jesus place in it, Luke presents accounts of Stephen and Paul as a part of
his history with Stephen s account launching the Gentile mission (53) and Paul underscoring this
mission as the major theological theme of Luke when he voices near the end of his history in Acts
28:28 Let it be known to you then that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will
listen. In fact, though some Romans found it difficult to accept the lordship of Jesus because he
was convicted and executed on a charge of sedition against Rome, Luke begins with an emphasis of
the Gentile mission by recounting Simeon of

Eliot s Influences On Literature
Frederick Douglass and T.S. Eliot s Influences On Literature The nineteenth and twentieth
century were pivotal times in the world of literature. Many new elements of writing and style
were evolving and authors all over the world were finding ways to present what they felt most
passionate about. Some writers opened their readers up to newer ideas by the means of, as Ezra
Pound once stated, making it new. Two writers in particular who did a fantastic job of this were
Frederick Douglass and T.S. Eliot. Frederick Douglass s most popular work is his autobiography,
The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. In this story, Douglass makes romanticism new.
On the contrast, T.S. Elliot is widely known for his poem, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, in
which he makes new of imagery. While Frederick Douglass and T.S. Eliot come from completely
different backgrounds and write with different styles, they share a few commonalities as well as
both being influences on literary society. Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in Talbot
County, Maryland around the supposed year of 1818. Like many other slaves, his exact date of
birth remains unknown. Douglass was an abolitionist for slavery as well as a supporter for women
s rights. Due to his works and accomplishments, it is obvious that Douglass was a major contributor
to the literary tradition of American Romanticism. After escaping slavery, Frederick Douglass wrote
his most famous autobiography, The Narrative of the Life of

FINAL PROJECT: The Chronicles of Narnia
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is the first book in the
Chronicles of Narnia series written by CS Lewis. The book series was such a great success that
in 2008, the first book was turned into a film. What many people may not realize is that CS
Lewis wrote the book series with a specific goal in mind: to showcase the word of God to different
parts of the world through an artistic lens.
This paper will focus on the theological nature of CS Lewis book based film, The Chronicles of
Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

Lastly, the four children (Lucy, Edmund, Peter and Suzan) are human beings. They represent four
different kinds of people who have different encounters with God. For Peter, he is the skeptical
type of Christian. One who is doubtful by how God can use him to help build God s kingdom, yet
at times he forgets that it is only Christ who can defeat evil and not by his strength alone. Edmund
is the type of Christian who has sinned and fallen short many times along the road before choosing
to love and follow Christ. While Suzan is the type of Christian who has consistently doubted
whether or not Christ, even really exists before fully trusting God with the things that don t seem to
make sense. Lastly, Lucy represents the Christians who just love, follow and dedicate their lives to
Christ without hesitation and without doubt. Lucy s childlikeness showcases how Christians
should love and trust Christ with our lives.
Since the four children can be seen as symbolisms of human beings, their relationship with Aslan
shows a lot about the grace, mercy and overall character of God. One of the main examples
where this is seen is the grace that Aslan showed to Edmund who was a traitor. Despite Edmunds
choice to prioritize Turkish delight over his family and his right as one of the king of Narnia,
Aslan still accepted Edmund into his army and not only that Edmund still inherited the kingdom of
Narnia not by his own works but by Aslan s

Water Filtration Systems And Its Effect On The Environment
With the rising popularity of bottled water, which at that time was a billion dollar business, the
sales of Clorox s company Brita water filtration systems began to decrease. Instead of being
defeated by this, Clorox saw an opportunity to reposition its Brita brand as a green product to
replace plastic bottled water, which was causing landfills to become clogged. By using Brita water
filtration systems instead of bottled water, consumers would prevent millions of empty bottles each
year from being dumped into landfills and Clorox saw this as an opportunity to revive the fast dying
Brita brand. By conducting a successful marketing campaign, which promoted the green attributes
of its water filtration system, educating customer about bottle waste and its affects on the
environment, and encouraging them to switch to the Brita brand, sales of Brita water filtration
system began to rise. To get consumers excited about the product and involved in the bottle saving
process, the company created a website called FilterForGood which allowed consumers to pledge
that they would reduce waste by switching to Brita. It also totaled the amount of bottles saved so
that consumers could see how they were saving the environment and encourage them keep on using
the Brita water filtration system.
As Brita s filter cartridges also had to be replaced every few months, a recycling solution had to be
developed. To dispose of these filters, the company then formed a partnership with Preserve

New needs and tensions will arise in each area of life initiating one to seek new ways of adapting
to these new found stressors. In return this forces them to form different kinds of intimate
relationships. This maturation helps forms one s personality (Kowalski, amp; Westen, 2002).
Relationships formed during each stage of life serve as a prototype for interactions in later stages.
For this reason, there exists a continuum of relationships formed throughout a lifetime that shape
and mold specific personality traits. Sigmund Freud, Erik Erikson, Jean Piaget, and Lawrence
Kohlberg, describe development as a series of stages. A stage is a period in development in which
people exhibit typical behavior patterns and establish particular capacities (Kowalski, amp; Westen,
2002). The various stage theories share three assumptions: First people pass through stages in a
specific order, with each stage building on capacities developed in the previous stage, second stages
most related to one s age, third development is discontinuous, with qualitatively different capacities
emerging in each stage (Kowalski, amp; Westen, 2002). Heredity VS. Environment, otherwise
known as the nature vs. nurture debate. Nature relates to the relative importance of an individual s

Common Sense Explanations And The Explanations Of C....
In this essay I will be exploring the differences between common sense explanations and the
explanations of C. Wright Mills theory of The Sociological Imagination. Common sense is
based on people s personal experiences and their opinions, very often constructed from social
norms and generalised views. Whereas, the Sociological Imagination thought up by sociologist C.
Wright Mills (1959) is based on the ideas of thinking critically and skeptically, in order to think
sociologically. He wrote that in order to do this, we have to understand and grasp the link between
current society and history, personal troubles and public issues. There are three main parts to
Sociological Imagination: social structure, biography and history. In this essay I will set forth the
ways in which each of these approaches would explain the topic of sexuality. I consider sexuality to
be an umbrella term for various features, including sexual orientation, sexual activity, masculinity
/femininity and gender roles. Each of which will be looked at in this essay in order to explore the
topic of sexuality in relation to common sense and the Sociological Imagination.
Sexual orientation is commonly viewed as the term to describe an individual s attraction for others;
who they want to have sex with. This sexual attraction is what s commonly considered to be the
representative of their sexuality. The common sense approach to sexual orientation is well educated
on heterosexuality and the LGBT community. LGBT

Affirmitive Action Essay
Affirmative Action is the name given to programs that try to correct past and ongoing
discriminations against women, racial minorities, and others in the work force and in education.
The principal goal of Affirmative Action is to create more diversity and equal opportunities in jobs
or schools that used to be all or mostly male, white, or both. Affirmative Actionprograms have been
in place only a little over thirty years. Affirmative action works.
There are thousands of examples of situations where people of color, and white women who were
previously excluded from jobs or educational opportunities, or were denied opportunities once
admitted, have gained access through affirmative action. When these policies received executive

Another growing concern is white male candidates are being discriminated against, or losing out
because of affirmative action programs.
If we were to look at the breakdown of various white collar professions or if we look at the
overall average income levels of white men we should immediately notice that people of color
are still significantly under represented and underpaid in every category. People of color don t
make up the proportions of these jobs even remotely equal to their percentage of the population.
They don t earn wages comparable to white men. White men are tremendously over represented in
almost any category of work that is highly rewarded except for professional athletics. According to
a 1995 government report, white males make up only 29 percent of the workforce, but hold 95
percent of senior management positions (Sklar 115). Until there is both equal opportunity and fair
distribution of education, training and advancement to all Americans, affirmative action for people
of color is necessary to counter the hundreds of years of affirmative action that have been directed
at white males.
Affirmative action is not a cure all. It will not eliminate racial discrimination, nor will it eliminate
competition for scarce resources. Affirmative action programs can only

Reasons For Getting A Soundproof Door Installed Essay
Title: Reasons to Get a Soundproof Door Installed
Description It is always very important for people to consider the costs involved in getting a
soundproof door installed within the house.
Noise pollution is something that affects each and every individual living in the modern society. In
this modern world, every individual thinks of relaxing in his or her home without the exterior world
disturbing his quiet and peace. It is also quite fun and enjoyment to get the ability of cranking up
the electric guitar or the cinema system in the house without disturbing the neighbors. Making sure
that the sound insulation in your house is of decent standard can help you in ensuring the fact
that your home serves as that perfect place for relaxing. There are a lot of people who are of the
view that they need to spend a huge amount of money on this special feature. However, these
people are unaware of the fact that there are some inexpensive methods that can also be used. For
example, making use of a soundproof door can always work towards making the home a
comfortable and relaxing place.
Reasons for Getting a Soundproof Door
The main reasons why you should think of proper sound insulation in your house are as follows:
Music: People always think of blasting their favorite tunes while relaxing in their houses. But this
would have the irate neighbors hammering on their doors.
Games Consoles: The noise of children and kids cranking up the television while playing different

Analysis Of The Book Crossing The Wire
Hispanics, mostly Mexicans, are not being treated equally because of their different culture and
lifestyle and people need to treat them fairly and enforce laws against discrimination. In the book,
Crossing the Wire, Hobbs displays what a Mexican has to go through when they are crossing the
border to the United Statesfor a good cause. Hispanics have been discriminated ever since the
Mexicans gained independence in 1821 from Spain. In recent years African Americans have
been receiving the most attention in America because of so much racial discrimination, but they
are not the only big race being discriminated. Mexicans are getting just as much hate. This
problem is going to continue because the Mexican population in the United States is rapidly
growing. Humans need to figure out a solution to stop this hatred, so all races can unite with
each other. If we unite we can try to agree with each other on things and make the earth a better
place to live. Ever since the 1900s, there has been a large number of Mexicans immigrating
illegally and legally into the United States. During this time, Mexicans mostly lived in the
southwestern part of America, where most schools in the area were segregated, job opportunities
were limited, public facilities were limited to Mexican Americans and housing was in poor quality.
For example, in California, public swimming pools were open only one day a week for Mexican
Americans (Daniels). In 1993 the National School Boards Association found

An Organization s Performance Management Plan Essay
Introduction
According to Caldwell (2002, pp 8), performance management is defined as a proactive partnership
between employees and management that helps employees perform at their best and alight their
contributions with the goals, values and initiatives of the organisation .
High performing organisations are created through individual accountability for both the
achievement of an organisation s results and its cultural foundation. Culture in its simplest terms is
how we do things around here . And while culture change needs to be led from the top, it is
everyone in the organisation s responsibility. The success balances on all employees being
accountable for achieving the organisation s goals, living the organisation s values and
demonstrating the right personal behaviour.
Factors involved in performance management
An organisation s performance management plan must identify the contributions each employee
makes in achieving the organisation s goals and objectives. Performance management is a continual
process that requires the engagement and participation of all involved. This is the process to create
a work environment where employees can perform their duties to the best of their abilities.
To be constituted as effective performance management, the following must be evident:
Employees must have a clear job description
A fair and equitable process and promote open lines of communication between the employee and
the employee s manager
Build employees

  • 2. Narrative Essay About Running Record I am exhausted. I have worked with a group of teachers today who hate using running records. I know what my kids can and can not do , they exclaimed. Why does the district have us doing all of this silliness? , they continued. As soon as we begin the running record process; mindsets begin to change. I sit on one end of the table and the classroom teacher sits on the other side. Our model students placed in between us. District administrators join us. The teacher begins the running record protocol as the other educators observe the process. Our star student waits patiently for his turn at being the center of attention. The teacher places the sample story in front of the student. A running record form is neatly placed in front of the teacher. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay about Salvation by Langston Hughes Salvation by Langston Hughes Salvation , by Langston Hughes is part of an autobiographical work written in 1940. The author narrates a story centering on a revival gathering that happened in his childhood. During the days leading up to the event, Hughes aunt tells him repeatedly that he will be saved , stressing that he will see a light and Jesus will come into his life. He attends the meeting but when Jesus fails to appear, he is forced by peer pressure to lie and go up and be saved . Hughes uses his story to illustrate how easy it is for children to misinterpret adults and subsequently become disillusioned. Adults sometimes forget that children communicate on a much more literal level than they do; their conversation is often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As time passed the congregation became more and more animated, wailing for Hughes to come up and be saved. Hughes became more and more impatient and extremely agitated. At the same time he must have been very curious as to why all the others were going up to the altar. During childhood we begin to learn the meaning of integrity. Having patiently awaited Jesus? appearance for what must have seemed an interminable amount of time, the pressure on Hughes to get up and go to the altar must have been ponderous. Finally, when Jesus failed to make an appearance that evening Hughes had a choice of continuing to wait or rising and satisfying the expectations of the congregation. In making his decision to approach the altar, Hughes is fearful, as most children are when disobeying the ?rules?. Hughes? reticence in coming forward probably reflects his type of up bringing, and he watches his friend to see what punishment God will mete out and bases his decision on the fact that nothing appears to happen. In embracing his friend Westley?s deception, in being saved without seeing Jesus, and because of his own up bringing, Hughes had to acknowledge his own dishonesty. Children trust the words of adults and despite the misunderstanding associated with the words his aunt used, Hughes believed her unquestionably. Later that evening when his aunt heard Hughes crying in bed, she assumed it is because he had been moved by his experience at church in receiving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Comparison Of Mexico And Brazil Essay Brazil and Mexico are both the giants of their geographic realms (de Blij and Muller 219,254). Mexico constitutes an entire geographic region of Middle America (200). The country of Brazil is also considered a single region in South America (239). Both of these regions have very large populations in comparison to the other regionsof their realms. Mexico s current population of 102 million people has more than doubled in size since 1970 (219). Brazil s estimated population is currently near 167 million people (254). The populationsof both regions are becoming increasingly more urban in character. At least seventy four percent of Mexico s population resides in cities or towns (220). Similarly in Brazil, eighty percent of the population... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brazil lacked the large work force provided by the greater Amerindian population of Mexico. The Amerindians of Mexico were already familiar with working for native overlords, making the transition to working under a Spanish overlord a relatively smooth process (Suchlicki 31). To compensate for the lack of an indigenous work force, the Portuguese began to bring African slaves into Brazil as early as 1433. Out of the total population of the Brazilian colony in 1585 numbering some 57,000 people, 14,000 were African slaves (Burns 49). Although the Spanish who colonized Mexico were by no means innocent of enslaving Africans, the large numbers of Amerindians provided the bulk of the work force on Mexican plantations (Suchlicki 31). These historical differences in the regions of Brazil and Mexico are still evident in their populations of today. The Amerindian influence is strong in Mexico. While only ten percent of the population is full Amerindian (de Blij and Muller 220), the cultural influence remains greater than in Brazil. Less than one percent of the population is full Amerindian in Brazil (Microsoft Encarta). The population of Mexico is largely mestizo, people with mixed European and Amerindian ancestries (de Blij and Muller 220). The population of Brazil is much more diverse; it is more heavily influenced by European immigrations. The large numbers of slaves brought into Brazil from Africa have maintained their ... • 5. Comparing Black Elk Speaks and The Lone Ranger and Tonto... Comparing Black Elk Speaks and The Lone Ranger and Tonto FistFight in Heaven Traditionally, Native American Literature has been an oral genre. Although Native American Literature was the first American literature created, it has been the last to be recognized and, to some extent, is still waiting for full recognition (www.usc.edu). With the Indian being forced to assimilate, their literature was forced to take on a written form. Although the traditional way of storytelling has changed, Native American Literature has survived. In it s written form, it is being shared with a larger population. Black Elk Speaks (Neihardt 1932) and The Lone Ranger and Tonto FistFight in Heaven (Alexie 1993) are two Native American works of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the story The Trial of Thomas Builds the Fire, Thomas is put on trial for unnamed crimes. In his testimony, he assumes several personae, including the voice of one of 800 ponies captured and slaughtered by the U.S. Cavalry. He is also Qualchan and Wild Coyote, telling stories of murder, extermination, and dispossession (Whitson, 132). This shows that the Indian still holds on to the hurt and loss they have suffered. They cannot and will not forget what their ancestors went through to survive. Another area the two books share is humor. Humor is needed in order to cope with loss and move forward. Although we see more humor in The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, Black Elk Speaks has some humorous stories. For example, I found the story of High Horse s Courting very humorous. High Horse wants to take a young Indian maiden for his wife. He goes to her father and offers him two horses for the girl. The old man waves him off. He goes back and offers four horses. Still, the old man is not impressed. High Horse wants his girl so bad that he goes out and steals about a hundred horses. High Horse proved himself and got the girl. It was not the horses her father wanted, but he wanted a son who was a real man and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Importance Of Art In Art In the rather limited amount of years I ve been on this Earth, I have found myself drawn to the world of creativity. I kept it in my pocket constantly, always knowing that I d need creative insight in this world to solve difficult problems. I always had art as an outlet for many things, and soon I became addicted to colors, shades, and designs. It s very important to me, and I hope to go further with it. To me, it is vexing when others hold an obvious distaste for trying anything new or creative. I don t hope to change these individual s minds, as that would be impossible, but rather, I hope to educate them on why having a creative, or artistic sense the new sixth sense if you will, is vital to being a part of society. Being creative, or artistic, is important, because it allows me to break away from the stubborn rules society has forced upon us. When I draw, I have no boundaries other than what I give myself. I don t have to restrain what I draw, as no one else will see it unless I want them to. It s important to have this break from the real world because without it, the world seems very bleak and downright sorrowful. Artistic values are a necessity to me, because without them, I wouldn t have as many opportunities to better the world around me. Art provides many career paths, such as comic books, or even advertising. Every art community can have a huge impact on people s daily lives, without them even realizing it. Take for instance, the billboard you drive by every day to work, or the comic strips you read on your Sunday paper. Though seemingly insignificant in your eyes, they are so important in the way you make decisions. When advertisements on TV are shown, no one really thinks about the artistic aspects the creators use to influence decisions. A prime example of this, that everyone knows purely by the now recognizable song, is Sarah McLachlan s ASPCA commercial seen constantly, with the same set up. But what everyone might not know, is that it took creative insight to pair the sad puppy images, with the depressing song. The artists knew that these things would guide you to feel sympathetic, and maybe even adopt a puppy. The world would be very different if there were no artists to create these. It ... Teams Are An Integral Part Of Most Business Situations In all employment situations, there will be circumstances where an employee will find themselves on a team with a specific problem to solve or goal to reach. Teams are an integral part of most business situations. Leadership within the respective organization often creates teams. The way that the leadershipinteracts with the teams can affect how cohesive the team is and if they reach their goals. These two groups can cause a business to succeed or fail. Teams Utilizing teamwork has been a key to the success of our military for many years. The most effective of these is the cross functional team. This is a team comprised of, employees from about the same hierarchical level, but from different work areas, who come together to accomplish a task. (Robbins Judge, 2009) One of these teams I was a part of was involved in ensuring a large multi agency training event occurred without any problems. This event involved the Active Army, Army Reserves, Army National Guard, Active Air Force, Air Force National Guard, Marine Corps, local fire departments, local law enforcement agencies, and the Departments of Emergency Management from multiple states. It had national military and civilian leaders that came to watch the outcome. This extremely high stress situation was accomplished through teamwork and planning. The event was checking the response of the agencies to a natural disaster situation. The meetings that we had were to ensure that everything was provided for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Our Kandak worked well with us for this reason. As we were refitting our vehicles with ammunition and cleaning them back out from the prior engagement, we got a call from our Company Commander. He wanted us to head back out immediately to conduct another mission in the same area. He wanted us to move up the mountainside to a village just above a valley where we were receiving the enemy fire from. This goodness in many characters overcomes the difficulties within relationships and the difficulties posed by war. De BerniГЁres shows the triumphant nature of this goodness through his characters as they interact and develop relationships with one another. The island of Cephallonia has been able to survive through a history full of invasions. Its population has triumphed and shows itself to be basically good. If Psipsina sat on a piece of the captain s music, he would go away and fetch another sheet rather than disturb her. Not only is this an example of Corelli s basic kind nature, but also of his ability to become part of the family in Cephallonia and relax into the Greek lifestyle. Corelli is also able to relate to all ages as he demonstrates through his kindness towards Lemoni. He plays with the child and is untiring in his attentions as she drags him out to see any piece of rusty metal that might be another Turkish mine. Despite being a captain of the enemy he is concerned for all the children of the island. The captain s only apparently vicious actions and reprimands occur towards the soldiers. He explains that this is because he is compassionate towards the victims of the soldiers torments. Corelli only punishes soldiers in relatively extreme ways because he is so angry that they can ignore the fundamental levels of civility and goodness. He is able to continue to show this kind of reaction as an example as he ascends in Pelagia s view as Mandras descends into a militant who will harm others for no reason. Another element of Corelli s goodness is that allows himself to love although he has fallen in love with a Greek girl. Populations were growing so rapidly, and people struggled to make enough living for their families. In conjunction, the United States tried to transition into a more modern and efficient world. This resulted in new ideas and inventions, in hopes to make living easier in a changing world. This period of time was known as the Gilded Age. Nineteenth century entrepreneurs are captains of industry based on their ability to boost the economy, the standard of living increased, and the lasting impression they made on America. Looking at entrepreneurs as robber barons is somewhat credible because of businessmen s tendency to claw their way to the top, despite hurting others along the way. However, on the opposite side of the spectrum, the jobs provided by these entrepreneurs ended up helping the American economy. Business owners were responsible for, the American economy [to grow and grow]. By 1914, the small nation once seen as a playground for European empires had now surpassed them all (The Gilded Age). The Hoovers In John Ginsberg s Little Miss Sunshine A person s determination for self fulfillment is not always a personal desire; in fact, the values associated with personal fulfillment is a by product of society and its culture. In Little Miss Sunshine, the Hoovers who are fairly dysfunctional, lower middle class family offer their aid to support their relative Frank Ginsberg, a suicidal homosexual and former Marcel Proust scholar. Despite the family having a lack of shared values in the beginning, the Hoovers unexpectedly take a road trip from New Mexico to California in order to fulfill Olivia s, their daughter, desire to participate in the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant. Throughout the Hoover s trip to California, minor events precipitate into major dilemmas and personal setbacks for each character. Each personal problem, however, reveals how American culture influences people, especially the Hoovers, to assimilate its values. Furthermore, some of these values,... The development of a unit is multi layered in its focus on curriculum, instruction, and assessment. In planning I need to first assess what the big ideas are that I want my students to learn and why they are important. In our study of Mesopotamia, we look at how our world began with the first civilization and the achievements that led to advances throughout history. The big ideas framed as understandings that I want my students to know are that the locations of civilizations and city states in relation to specific landforms affect development and technology achievements can benefit society in a variety of areas. Whereas most writers merely borrow from history to fuel their creative fires, Shakespeare goes so far as to rewrite history. The First Part of Henry the Fourth follows history fairly closely, and Shakespeare draws this history primarily from Raphael Holinshed s Chronicle of England, Scotland, and Ireland and from Samuel Daniel s verse epic The Civil Wars(Abrams 823). The play opens shortly after Henry Bolingbroke has usurped the throne from Richard II, becoming the fourth King Henry, and changing the royal lineage from the House of Plantagenet to the House of Lancaster. In the opening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the most part, Shakespeare did indeed fabricate Falstaff, Poins, and the whole Tavern Group, yet historical evidence does support some sort of provincial getaway. McFarlane records that in 1412 the younger Henry remained dissatisfied [with his father] and shortly afterwards withdrew once more into the provinces, where he was soon again at his old tricks (110). Shakespeare originally named the character of Falstaff after the Protestant martyr John Oldcastle. Shakespeare eventually bowed to the objections of Oldcastle s descendants, renaming the character (Abrams 823). At the Battle of Shrewsbury, Shakespeare describes how Hal kills Hotspur, eulogizes him (5.4.78 102), and then concedes the victory of the kill to Falstaff (5.4.138 50). History records that Hal himself suffered an arrow shot to the face (Rowse 44) and that no one knows for certain who killed Hotspur (Jacob 52 3). History further records that, as for the eulogy, it was the king who shed tears over Hotspur s slain figure, not the young prince (Rowse 45). Despite Hotspur being three years older than Hal s father (Hotspur died at age thirty nine) (Rowse 44), Shakespeare paints the portrait of Hotspur and Hal as contemporaries, following poet Daniel s lead (Drabble 475). Rowse does note, however, that Shakespeare did capture the essence in Hotspur of something not grown up about this fighting man, who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since the Unites States has a two party system, the vast majority of our country votes for major party candidates. Nowadays, sustainability is a topic which research is still maturing, and designs are relatively new. The intent of this study emphasises in ruralisation of current urban cities by creating an environment that would allow the residents to benefit from its geographical and urban function stressing the creation of one system. Cities in the US and around the world have developed significantly that much of the land has transformed into Metro areas. In addition to 3 million people or greater living in these cities, people have exhausted their options and had no alternative but to rely on high rise architecture. Many architects and landscape architects, focus their careers trying to create sustainable cities but are still limited by the maximum space they can utilise. Others emphasise the incorporation of biophilic mediums to solve the problem, then again, these are very restricted to the site. As land in some countries are finite and are reaching their maximum capacities, this will potentially become a problem that must be solved. As innovative developments in these cities cease, buildings are stacked, rooms miniaturised, and even expand to restricting areas to accommodate as many people as possible. As the cities grew and flourished, long distance travel was used to share customs with other places, and trade goods. While traveling, General Zhang discovered new plants and trees, and then introduced them to China, so that they could adopt them and use them for their own use, and also for trade. Both of the poems express the authors perception of war; Owen s being about its bitter reality and brutality and Brooke s about the glorification of dying for your country. The poets express their sentiments on the subject matter in terms of language, tone, rhyme, rhythm and structure. Alliteration is used in both poems to establish rhythm and to reinforce the tone. The rhyme scheme used by both authors is similar. This helps to emphatically set the rhythm and sets the foundation for the nature of the tone. Both titles are misleading. The poem was targeted mainly at the government and tabloid pro war poets, who were unmindful of the outrageous situation in which the young soldiers were being sent. • 40. The Eruption Of Mount Vesuvius Introduction The eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD was a pyroclastic event discussed in greater detail over the course of this essay. Mount Vesuvius is located on the southern coast of Italy, 1,281 metres above the Bay of Naples on the plain of Campania between the Apennine Mountains and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Mount Vesuviusis part of the Romana volcanic belt which covers about 450km from Mount Amatia, 130km from north west Rome and 110km from East Naples. The Romana volcanic belt is made up of two parallel volcanic scars. Mount Vesuvius is on the Western arc. This zone is highly fractured which allows magma to rise up into the magma chamber beneath Mount Vesuvius. This chamber is thought to be approximately 5km below the volcano and almost 2km high with a diameter of around 1km. The volcano is situated where two faults in the Earth s crust converge. (De Boer and Sanders, 2002) Development of Mount Vesuvius Mount Vesuvius developed inside the caldera of an older volcano. This volcano was known as Monte Somma. Monte Somma became active around 400,000 years ago. Only the northern side of Monte Somma is left, creating a wall like ridge around the northern edge of Mount Vesuvius. This feature can be observed today at the site of Mount Vesuvius. The development of Vesuvius produced a volcanic complex consisting of the two volcanoes. Many new elements of writing and style were evolving and authors all over the world were finding ways to present what they felt most passionate about. Some writers opened their readers up to newer ideas by the means of, as Ezra Pound once stated, making it new. Two writers in particular who did a fantastic job of this were Frederick Douglass and T.S. Eliot. Frederick Douglass s most popular work is his autobiography, The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. In this story, Douglass makes romanticism new. On the contrast, T.S. Elliot is widely known for his poem, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, in which he makes new of imagery. While Frederick Douglass and T.S. Eliot come from completely different backgrounds and write with different styles, they share a few commonalities as well as both being influences on literary society. Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in Talbot County, Maryland around the supposed year of 1818. Like many other slaves, his exact date of birth remains unknown. Douglass was an abolitionist for slavery as well as a supporter for women s rights. Due to his works and accomplishments, it is obvious that Douglass was a major contributor to the literary tradition of American Romanticism. Lastly, the four children (Lucy, Edmund, Peter and Suzan) are human beings. They represent four different kinds of people who have different encounters with God. For Peter, he is the skeptical type of Christian. One who is doubtful by how God can use him to help build God s kingdom, yet at times he forgets that it is only Christ who can defeat evil and not by his strength alone. Edmund is the type of Christian who has sinned and fallen short many times along the road before choosing to love and follow Christ. While Suzan is the type of Christian who has consistently doubted whether or not Christ, even really exists before fully trusting God with the things that don t seem to make sense. Lastly, Lucy represents the Christians who just love, follow and dedicate their lives to Christ without hesitation and without doubt. Lucy s childlikeness showcases how Christians should love and trust Christ with our lives. One of the main examples where this is seen is the grace that Aslan showed to Edmund who was a traitor. Instead of being defeated by this, Clorox saw an opportunity to reposition its Brita brand as a green product to replace plastic bottled water, which was causing landfills to become clogged. Whereas, the Sociological Imagination thought up by sociologist C. Wright Mills (1959) is based on the ideas of thinking critically and skeptically, in order to think sociologically. He wrote that in order to do this, we have to understand and grasp the link between current society and history, personal troubles and public issues. There are three main parts to Sociological Imagination: social structure, biography and history. In this essay I will set forth the ways in which each of these approaches would explain the topic of sexuality. I consider sexuality to be an umbrella term for various features, including sexual orientation, sexual activity, masculinity /femininity and gender roles. Each of which will be looked at in this essay in order to explore the topic of sexuality in relation to common sense and the Sociological Imagination. People of color don t make up the proportions of these jobs even remotely equal to their percentage of the population. They don t earn wages comparable to white men.
