Example Of Corporate Social Responsibility
We must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the
military industrial complex (Eisenhower). This was Eisenhower s warning against the military
industrial complex in his farewell address as president. Even so, our military and government have
gotten out of control with the amount of money the goes to defense spending every year. This is
precisely why our government needs to adopt some form of corporate social responsibility to, at some
level, be able to regulate themselves. There are just too many examples of wasteful spending
spawning from bad policies and dependency to ignore the source of the problem any longer. The U.S.
defense budget is out of control, crucial to our economy, and too ... Show more content on

That s how Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the ninth largest city in Wisconsin, got their hands on a military
grade armored personnel carrier (Boyd). Why is our defense spending debate only about arming
soldiers? Why doesn t it includes the food chain of contractors selling arms to the military, who
eBayed them to law enforcement? Or what about the way defense spending helps determine whether
you have a job.
Lots of parts of defense spending are domestic spending. Defense spending creates American
manufacturing jobs. Going back to the tanks from before, there is one set of workers at one factory in
Lima, Ohio who can make those tanks and they are the only people who can. If they get laid off we
lose are tank building infrastructure and we give an American town the rust belt treatment. And there
is a similar situation with the Bradly Fighting Vehicle manufactured in York, Pennsylvania and only
York, Pennsylvania. What happens in Lima and York happens all over the country every time America
gives itself defense jobs. The biggest example being the F 35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter.
The Air Force pitched the F 35 to Congress as something the defense company Lockheed Martin
would build. Lockheed promised Congress that the F 35 would create 125,000 American jobs across
46 states (Lockheed Martin). So permission to build it zipped through Congress because projects that
boost 96% of the U.S. economy tend to do well in a Senate vote. The F 35 will also be the

Holocaust And The Moving Image
Holocaust and the Moving Image: representations in film and television since 1933, is a collection of
essays that grew out of the 2001, Holocaust, Genocide, and the Moving Image: Film and Television
Representations Since 1933 symposium held at the Imperial War Museum in London. The conference,
was designed to address the historic, social, educational, and psychological relationships bound to the

Lean Production Is A Benefit For Selling Products
Lean Production In short, lean production is essentially about receiving more from less. The point of
this idea is to lessen the amount of assets or quantity, so the main focus can be utilized as a benefit for
selling products and furthering assistance to customers. All while in sync, it is about making the
association of the business or supply chain more productive, vaulable and more importantly effective.
Lean production can be characterized from various perspectives, however the most mainstream is the
elimination of all waste and continuous improvement of productivity. (Arnold, Chapman, 2012, p.340)
Waste means something besides the base measure of hardware, parts, space, material, creation time
and laborers time which make it completely important to increase the value of the item. Lean
production is built on various effective ideas such as continuous improvement, organizing the
business, and just in time production, which makes lean production so effective in supply chains. Lean
production includes wiping out what might be wasteful and hence utilizing less energy, supplys,
capacity and time. In return, this lessens costs and helps companies, such as supply chains, excel in
business. The three basic values of supply chains are simplicity, consistency and responsibility. Lean
production ties in quite well with these qualities. For instance, supply chain stores are basic in outline
and all stores are fundamentally the same which makes them consistent, which is

Emerging Therapies For Sickle Cell Anemia
Emerging therapies for sickle cell anemia
Cesi Salmeron
Suny Rockland Community College
Abstract
Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an inherited disorder that produces sickle or crescent shape red blood
cells. Thus, the mutated erythrocytes result in an inadequate supply of oxygen being transported
throughout the body. Research shows that among those affected the most with the sickle cell gene are
African Americans. In recent years, we have seen a decrease in mortality and morbidity rates as a
result of new approaches to treating the disease. The more we understand the pathophysiology of
sickle cell anemia, the more we learn about developing therapies for genetic disorders such as SCA. In
this paper, we will briefly discuss what sickle cell anemia is and possible treatments for people with
sickle cell anemia such as gene therapy and new drugs.
What is sickle cell anemia?
Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder. This missense mutation is
characterized by mutant beta globin subunits that tend to stick together (Cummings, 2014). As a result,
abnormally shaped red blood cells are produced by this disorder. The erythrocytes are sickle or
crescent shaped. Sickling occurs under hypoxic conditions, in which there is insufficient supply of
oxygen delivered throughout the body (Sun Xia, 2013). In order to inherit this monogenic disease, one
copy of the sickle globin gene from each parent must be passed on to the offspring (Ashley Koch,

Turing Red Flag By Toby Walsh
Toby Walsh addresses a number of concerns that many will overlook when it comes to technological
advancements such as Artificial Intelligence (AI). I am sure there will be many who will be too
fascinated by an AI inhibiting human behavior to worry about the consequences. As some may argue,
we re just not at that point yet for many to care. However, as we get closer I do believe that the Turing
Red Flag would benefit society as whole but not for all the reasons Walsh discusses. First, I agree that
self driven vehicles should clearly be identifiable to human drivers. It could serve for a number of
purposes, similar to how student drivers are identifiable on the road. For instance, seeing a student
driver may influence other drivers to be more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It makes sense considering how we currently do not have anything in place to safeguard us from
issues that may arise in the future. I feel like it s a step in the right direction but it depends on how
deep the law wants to go in regulating the use of AI. The basic concept of the law seems fine, though.
For example, going back to autonomous cars and how they should be identifiable to human drivers, it
should be something subtle like what Walsh said, a distinct license plate. It definitely should not have
a flashing green light placed on top of the vehicle. Imagine a world of self driving cars all with
flashing green lights. It s not only intrusive but it s also very distracting. If we had AI blatantly
impersonating a celebrity, such as commentating the World Cup as Messi, we wouldn t it periodically
inform us that he s a bot because as mentioned earlier, it would take away from the experience. It
might create a new social norm where humans will themselves pretend to be AI and who knows what
issues (if any) that will bring. In addition to requiring AI to properly introduce themselves, it should
also indicate that it s collecting data. Thus, the basic concepts of the Turing Red Flag law should be
sustainable while carrying numerous benefits and minimal

Klhl3 Gene Essay
The KLHL3 gene (Kelch like family member 3) creates a protein that works in conjunction with
proteasomes to degrade unwanted proteins via an ubiquitin proteasome system. KLHL3 is mainly
expressed in the cerebellum and the distal collecting tubule in the kidneys (3). is Though expressed in
the KLHL3 protein has a N terminal BTB domain, a C terminal that has Ketch like repeats, and a
BACK domain, forming a conformation that is a bladed beta propeller structure (1). The protein
produced by this gene is part of a complex (E3 ubiquitin ligase), which functions to indicate damaged
and additional proteins by labelling these with ubiquitin, which is the tag later recognized by
proteasomes for breakdown (4). This labelling is possible with the ... Show more content on

Mutations for KLHL3 that cause disease all involve missense mutations, resulting in a different amino
acid, again noting the inability to interact with substrates (7). One mutation, for example, resulted in a
cytosine to thymine nucleotide change at codon 410, changing from a serine to a leucine amino acid.
This change in polarity, moving from a polar to nonpolar amino acid, disrupts regular formation of the
E3 complex, not allowing for ubiquitin attachment. These missense mutations often inhibit the ability
of the KLHL3 protein to form the E3 ubiquitin ligase complex, and so this prevents the normal
function of identifying extraneous and damaged proteins, resulting in an excess of WNK4, due to no
protein degradation as a result of the inability to tag these excess proteins. This inability to form the
complex in some mutations is a result of the cluster of serine residues that were affected by the
mutation, building up on the propeller domains, disrupting interactions with substrate and/or altering
protein structure, though it is more common to see one or the other (6). This leads to high blood
pressure, due to no control over WNK4 concentrations in the blood. It was commented on that the
majority of mutations affected the ability of the KLHL3 to associate with the rest of the complex,
therefore unable to

The blame of over charging is due to his own mistakes for he picks off beam movies repeatedly to

Extrinsic Allergic Alveolitis ( Hp ) Is An Inflammatory...
Abstract Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP), also known as extrinsic allergic alveolitis, is an
inflammatory lung disease caused by repeated inhalation of antigens in the sensitized population, and
presents with allergic inflammation in the alveoli and bronchioles. It is traditionally classified into
acute, subacute and chronic forms, but the criteria for such classification are often unclear. Immune
complexes and lymphocytes mediate the inflammatory process of HP, which leads to high cell count
in bronchoalveolar lavage. The risk factors of HP are not completely clear, but both genes and
environment are probably involved in the initiation of HP. Removal of antigens is the best way to
prevent and manage HP. Finally two common forms of occupational HP, metalworking fluid induced
HP and hot tub lung, are reviewed. Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) is an inflammatory lung disease
that is sometimes called extrinsic allergic alveolitis. Considering the disease also affects bronchioles,
however, the name of HP seems more accurate and universally accepted (Quirce et al., 2016). HP, of
which farmer s lung was the earliest discovered, is induced by repeated inhalation of antigens in the
sensitized population, and presents with allergic inflammation in the alveoli and bronchioles (Chmelik
et al., 1974; Johansson et al., 2001). However, this kind of allergic response is NOT IgE mediated as
in the case of many allergic diseases. It should be borne in mind as the discussion of HP

A Discussion On Ethics And Law Essay
Enron, a Discussion on Ethics and Law
Leadership s Role in Ethical Dilemma
As documented in a promotional video for Enron, Kenneth Lay states: Enron is a company that deals
with everyone with absolute integrity. We play by all the rules. . . We want people to leave a
transaction with Enron thinking they have been dealt with in the highest possible way, as far as
integrity and truthfulness and really doing our business right. (Enron Vision and Values, 1998, 3:32)
Whereas this message was intended to affirm corporate mindset, Lay s business leadership and
conflict resolution promoted the contrary. In 1985, Kenneth Lay founded Enron Corporation to satisfy
his personal ambition and insight in the deregulation of energy markets. As many entrepreneurs do,
Lay placed a focus on the success and future of his business on the financial performance and growth
rate. Although short term success can be gained by focusing solely on the bottom line, long term
success can only occur by first meeting the requirements of the law and maintaining integrity through
ethical decision making. As you will see, Lay s leadership focus on the priority of enhancing the
bottom line actually trumped his ability to promote ethical and legal decision making for his
organization. This conflict was the root of the problem that promoted individuals in the organization to
make unethical and unlawful decisions on a business level as well as personal level.

Essay on The Voyage Of Christopher Columbus
American History I Christopher Columbus Voyage to North America Spanish exploration first began
with a series of revolutions. First, the Commercial Revolution generated economic stability. Second,
the Intellectual Revolution generated interest in the Earth s composition and the pursuit of exploration.
Europe then called for a political revolution to end the disorganized and disorderly rule of its
government. This revolution returned order and stability to the government and renewed interest in
exploration to search for national wealth. The last of these revolutions was the religious revolution
(note Columbus voyage occurred before this revolution). As more people broke away from the

It was on this voyage that he learned how to sail, manage a boat, estimate distances, and other
elements of seamanship (29) 1. In 1476, Columbus found his way to Portugal after his ship was
burned during the wars between the Mediterranean states. Columbus arrived shortly after the death of
Prince Henry the Navigator who had set up his headquarters in Cape St. Vincent in addition to a
school for maritime discovery. In 1477, Columbus set out as a sailor on a trade ship towards Ireland
and Iceland. The next year, a Lisbon merchant sent Columbus out on a sugar trade between Madeira
and Genoa. This was an indication that Columbus was rising in the world (30) 1. Columbus then
ventured into the chart making business with his brother, Bartholomew. He developed into a skilled
mapmaker became acquainted with the latest news about the world and its geography (30) 1. After
the death of his wife, Columbus became very interested in the Portuguese trading post in a gold
mining area on the Gulf of Guinea (Ghana) on the west coast of Africa. Columbus further developed
his skills as a seaman by observing his Portuguese shipmates that taught him how to handle a ship in
heavy winds, what kinds of stores to take on a long voyage, and how to trade with primitive people
(31) 1. Upon his return to Lisbon, Columbus was ready to explore the unknown Atlantic to obtain the
wealth of the Indies. Certainly the idea of sailing west to reach the

New Public Management Model For The Nonprofit Agency,...
New Public Management and the Role of Nonprofit Organizations: Cultivating the Public Sector
The purpose of this paper is to apply the new public management model to the nonprofit agency,
Hands Across the World. First, an overview of the new public management model is provided.
Second, a brief description of the nonprofit organization, Hands Across the World is provided. Third,
the new public management model is applied to Hands Across the World.
New Public Management Today the new public management (NPM) model is the leading worldview
in the public sector. The political climate and ideology during the 1970s and 1980s served as an
impetus to migrate away from the old public administration approach and implement new policies and
procedures that would be of better service to the public interest and collective good as well as restore
trust and value in the bureaucratic process. Thus, during the mid 1990s, the new public management
worldview was realized to apply common practices used in the private sector to the public sector. The
goal of this approach was to achieve the same level of efficiency found in the private sector and
remove some of the redundancy, lack of transparency, and lack of accountability in bureaucratic
government to better serve the public interest. David Osborne and Ted Gaebler s Reinventing
Government (1992) served as a catalytic novel in the progression of implementing private practices in
the public sector. Under the NPM framework public administrators

Metaphors In American Childhood
We could have ran through every backyard in North America until we got to Panama (Dillard 48).
This is just one of Dillard s many metaphors throughout the novel that portrays a deep awareness of
space and time. Through metaphors Dillard captures a true depth in the novel that regular sentences
can not obtain. Normal sentences might pull a reader in, however metaphors can truly captivate the
reader to imagine all new possibilities. Dillard shows through metaphors of sight, time, and
understanding that as you grow older your awareness of time and space deepens in understanding.
Sight is one of the few senses that a young child is able to use freely. A young child can have an
outlook that looks completely different than what an adult has. In An American Childhood, Dillard
explores her Pittsburgh and sees many things including, which she describes as, a black phalanx (34).
This metaphor is explicit because a phalanx is meant for a mass of people, not a few nuns that are
walking down the street. Phalanx describes these nuns well because it is a word Dillard attributes to
something she sees as unknown and mystifying. The mystifying nuns represent one of the first real
things that Dillard sees in Pittsburgh that frightens her. Dillard uses this metaphor as a sign of fear
when amongst the nuns, but the reader can see through her word choice that the awareness she has of
the world is pretty open. Dillard is able to see nuns in her travels and think deeply about her thoughts.

Obesity And The United State Of America
Obesity in United State of America. One can imagine how obesity is taking over the world s
population, so rapidly and it is obvious that the United States of America has high rates of Obesity.
Obesity, also known as overweight, is a serious epidemic disease that can cause harm to the systems of
the body including the heart. Obesity is the biggest threat to the United State of America s population
and something urgent has to be done, otherwise our future generation is at stake. the parent of U.S

depression in the victims. If something is not done fast to alter this misfortune, there is a high
percentage that our future generation is at stake. Moreover, Obesity is a vital root of many life
threatening diseases, like diabetes type 2, high blood pressure and even strokes. Most people who are
obese are often associated with type 2 diabetes because obesity can cause resistance to insulin that
produces the hormone to regulate sugar in the blood. Malnutrition motivates obesity whereby

Sea Stars
I understand why you may think sea stars are not important, however they are a keystone species and
essential in their environment. If you are not sure what a keystone species is, it is a species that has a
key role in sustaining the life of other organisms in an economic system (Ferrer, 2015). Many species
of the rocky intertidal communities depend upon the sea star. Sea stars feed on sea urchins, which
control the population. Without sea stars all other organisms would vanish except for mussels (Phelan,
2010). A sea stars role as a keystone species is maintaining an ecosystem by eating species that

organisms in an environment. It is crucial to make sure these species are surviving and thriving. The
loss of such an important character affects all the organisms in that environment. If we begin to loose
biodiversity our planet will slowly deteriorate. More species means more growth and life on Earth. It
also enables us with resources to recover more efficiently from natural disasters (Why is Biodiversity
Important?). Each species relies on the next as a source of survival. The removal of a keystone species

Vertigo Film Techniques Essay
Hitchcock makes use of a number of techniques in Vertigo and brings them together to make a film
that is considered to be one of his greatest masterpieces. Through the use of colour, lighting, camera
movement, dialogue and characterisation, Hitchcock produces a film that fascinates and intrigues us.
One of the key techniques, which Hitchcock makes, use of in Vertigo is the different use of colour. He
chooses certain colours due to their symbolic connotations and then uses them to contrast different
characters. He frequently uses green and red, for example when Scottie meets Madeleine for the first
time, the restaurant is decorated in red with the visitors wearing mainly dark clothing. Green is
quickly established as Madeleine s colour as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lighting used by Hitchcock also serves to portray Madeleine as a fantasy woman, using the
lighting to highlight her face. As Madeleine passes by Scottie in the restaurant she is bathed in a soft
light which makes her all the more noticeable against the backdrop of a dimly lit restaurant.
Furthermore, as she passes by him, she is shown in a full body shot in the center of the frame, which
Hitchcock uses to create an overwhelming sense of romance. Here, Madeleine is the desired object
clearly separated from her mundane surroundings. The viewer is aggressively confronted with
Madeleine s image and this allows us to be swept up in the romantic fantasy along with Scottie. The
lighting used in this scene actively draws the viewer to her features and ensures that all attention is on
her. The audience are enticed and seduced by her and this stretches to Scottie as well as we can see
that he is drawn to her and has to make an effort to be covert.
The scene begins with the camera moving towards a door made of radiant red glass. The camera then
moves to from Scottie s position at the bar. Scottie does not see Madeleine directly therefore the
camera does not directly occupy his point of view. Madeleine appears and pauses. She appears
through a doorway, which may suggest that there is something in her past that will reemerge. As she
exits, the mirror images signal give us a clue to what we will eventually discover that there are two

The Negative Effects Of Music In Education
Each year there is that one student ; the kid with the headphones, the kid who never appears to be
listening, when you (the teacher) go to ask them to take the headphones out, they tell you that the
music helps them. This is the student who panics at the word test, and struggles to pay attention when
they do not have their headphones in, they have a hard time with other kids. As a teacher it s your job
to make sure all students follow the rules, and focus in the classroom. You may not be trying to make
it hard for them, you are just trying to make sure they learn. Many may feel that students can not learn
or comprehend when they have a headphone on, however research shows that students who listen to
music have better behaviour, less stress, and higher grade scores. For some people music is a
distraction, it is more like an added stress, and it doesn t help. Many teachers included have the
mindset that music does not help, and when there is little information supporting music in classrooms,
their point is understandable. For instance, according to Susan Hallam and John Price, historically
there have been many claims regarding the beneficial effects of music on behavior and development,
but there has been little empirical work to verify them . If only a few studies have been conducted,
how do we know the accuracy of the tests, or if they were modified to show a specific result? During

Monuments Essay
Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope. His full length portrait is carved into the Stone of
Hope as the stone itself is emerging from two boulders known as the Mountain of Despair. These
powerful words were derived from the side of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial that was
created to represent his soul rousing I Have A Dream speech. The memorialization of MLK and this
event s significance and impact on history was exquisitely executed, in my opinion. If you had to take
the responsibility of memorializing someone or a noteworthy event, how would you go about doing
so? Creating a monument takes time, hard work, and good reasoning. There are many factors to ...

Another example of a muddled purpose lies within The Maine Lobsterman. Maine is known for its
fishermen, so H. Elroy Johnson, a resident of Maine who trapped lobsters for a living, was chosen to
be memorialized. As his statue was moved from place to place its purpose was lost because he truly
represented his home state of Maine only. When developing a monument, its purpose is at the root of
its success and should be timeless and/or clear to those who will view it in the general public.
Secondly, placement is a key factor in creating a monument of someone or an event. As described in
Source E, placement could offend the surrounding population. In this source, the Holocaust Museum
is located in The Mall in Washington, DC and it offended both Jewish and non Jewish communities.
This is primarily due to the fact that a museum dedicated to the memory of the Holocaust would be
built in the United States, who did little to stop the Holocaust from occurring, or... ...open our shores

to have it there seemed to be a sign of disrespect to many. On the other hand, supporters believed,
such as George Will, a political columnist, that, No other nation has a broader, graver responsibility in

Life Leading Up to Siddhartha Gautama s Awakening Essay
Life Leading Up to Siddhartha Gautama s Awakening It is thought by many that the Buddha,
Siddhartha Gautama, was born having this title and did not have to endure any hardships throughout
his life. Despite these thoughts, Siddhartha Gautama was not born the Buddha, but had to find his own
way to achieve enlightenment and become the Buddha. Before and after Siddhartha s birth, Siddhartha
s mother and father knew that their son was special and had two paths in life that could lead
Siddhartha into being a great king or a Buddha, a remover in the world of the veil of ignorance. In an
attempt to steer Siddhartha s life to the path of the great king, his father, King Suddhodana Gautama,

child was able to walk and talk immediately. A lotus flower blossomed under the infant s feet at each
step, and then the child announced that this would be his last lifetime (37). King Suddhodana
Gautama, the infant s father, summoned Asita, a Brahmin of dignified mien, to see the child. While
holding the infant, Asita began to weep and sighed deeply; this caused King Suddhodana distress, so
King Suddhodana asked Asita, Why has the sight of my son caused you grief and pain? Asita, as in
Paul Carus s writes, answers King Suddhodana s question thoroughly: The King, like the moon when
full should feel great joy, for he has acquired a wondrously noble son. I do not worship Brahma, but I
worship this child; and the gods in the temples will descend from their places of honor to adore him.
Banish all anxiety and doubt; the omens manifested indicate that the child now born will bring
deliverance to the whole world. The wheel of empire will come to him. He will either be a king of
kings to govern all the lands of Earth, or eh will become a Buddha. He is born for the sake of
everything that lives. His pure teaching will be like the shore that receives the shipwrecks. His power

Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Four Wheel Steering System
2.1 Vehicle Dynamic Expressions
2.1.1 Ackerman Steering Mechanism
Ackerman system was developed by a German Engineer named Lankensperger in 1817. Rudolf
Ackerman was the lawyer who secured the patent, hence the name Ackerman. In Ackerman system the
inner wheel turns more than the outer wheel to effectively steer the vehicle without any slip. With
perfect Ackermann steering, at any angle of steering, the center point of all the circles traced by all
four wheels should be a common point. Modern cars do not use complete Ackermann steering because
it ignores the important dynamic and compliant effects.

Rear wheel steering was also tried and developed but due to the tendency of the vehicle to move
sideways from rear lead to its failure. Four wheel steering on the other hand is still under
development. From 1987 when Honda developed first four wheel steering, it was accepted and widely
used but due to skeptical tendency and behavior of customers it was not widely accepted, despite of
being a great steering system. From 2010, BMW, Porsche and Honda are developing this steering
system purely for getting better handling with the premium cars they offer, this has yet again
reinvented interest in four wheel steering in automobile makers.
2.3 Theory and Facts about Four Wheel Steering System
This section will discuss about the choices we made in developing this steering system and the theory
behind it, for selecting a specific system or mechanism. It will also help reader to get a better
understanding of why a system was selected or made. As the name suggest two vs four, we can have
an idea that the traction provided by four wheels will always be greater than the traction provided by
two wheels during giving direction to car.
The whole idea was to improve, enhance safety and comfort with developing this four wheel steering

Co workers also noticed that
Arthurs was becoming increasingly forgetful. He was often unable to remember stock numbers, colour
codes, product lines, packaging modes, and other information essential for serving clients efficiently
and completing orders accurately. These problems were subtle in 1987, but became quite pronounced
and embarrassing over the next three years.
In May 1989, Arthurs and Jackson had a conflict relating to the purchase of a new company car.
According to Jackson, Arthurs presented him with a quotation for a car, which, in Jackson s view,
included $2,500 in unnecessary options. Jackson informed
Arthurs of his concerns and instructed him to find a car worth $13,000 instead of
$16,000. Jackson then left town on business and when he returned was distressed to find that Arthurs
had made his proposed car purchase with almost all of the unnecessary options. Jackson issued the
cheque to pay for the car, but also included a note to Arthurs saying that he had lost confidence in the
sales representative. It was about this time that
Jackson contemplated firing Arthurs, but decided instead to be a nice guy and overlook the matter.
At the end of 1989, Jackson decided to reassign the North Vancouver independent accounts from
Arthurs to another Western Agencies salesperson because the existing accounts had shown minimal
growth and no new accounts were being added.

Leadership Theories Of The Great Man Theory
Leaders are born not mad, I don t fully agree with this statement. I believe that a leader can be born
with leadership traits but will then have to develop these traits and other characteristics and decision
making techniques to become an effective leader. I will justify this by explaining the four main
categories of leadership theories
➢ Great Man Theory
➢ Trait Theory
➢ Behavioral Theory
➢ Contingency theory
Situational theory
Path goal theory
Participation theory model
There are many different leadership theories; these leadership theories can be places into four main
categories:
1. Great Man Theories this theory assumes that leadership can be inherited, that they are born not
taught. The Great Man theory reveals great leaders as heroic, mythic and certain to rise to leadership
when needed. A leader is born with the required core characteristics of a great leader including
confidence, intelligence and social skills. The term Great Man theory was used because at the time
leadership was thought to be a primarily male quality.
2. Trait Theories theories that consider personal qualities and characteristics that differentiate leaders
from non leaders (Robbins, Millett, Maree Boyle Tim Judge, Organisational Behaviour). Personal
traits that are common among successful leaders are:
Drive: having high energy, display initiative and are tenacious
Self confidence: trusting themselves and have confidence in their abilities
Creativity: are creative and original

Methodology
Extraneous Variables
It is very important for the researcher to control the extraneous variable that could affect the study
results. The extraneous variables that would affect the results in this study include, the catheter
material, the catheter care, and the method of obtaining the urine sample. To control the catheter
material, this study will be using the antimicrobial and antiseptic impregnated catheters instead of the
standard catheters as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 2009
guidelines because they are effective in reducing the risk of CAUTIs. To control the catheter care, the
study will follow the CDC guidelines for routine catheter care by ensuring that all the indwelling
urinary catheters (IUC) maintain a sealed drainage system, and an unobstructed urine flow. In
addition, the nursing staff will be cleansing the meatal area daily with warm soapy water instead of
antiseptics, while maintaining the standard precautions including hand hygiene and wearing of gloves
while performing peri urethral care. To control the procedure for obtaining urine sample, the study
will use the CDC recommendation for collecting the urine sample aseptically, by aspirating the urine
from the sampling port with a sterile syringe after thoroughly cleansing the port with an antiseptic
wipe (Gould et al., n.d.).

Necessary Causes Of War
Permissive causes of war are those features of the international system which, while not actively
promoting war, nevertheless allow it to happen (Baylis et al 2002, p. 71). The lack of ungoverned
international system some believe is the root that causes war. There are reasonable arguments for both.
It has also been found useful to distinguish between necessary and sufficient causes of war. A
necessary condition is one that must be present for it to occur if that condition is not present then there
will be no breakout of war. The existence of arms is a necessary condition of war because without
weapons no war can be fought. It is also necessary for humans to be in organized groups states, tribes,
ethnic groups, nations, or mechanisms for preventing it such as an effective world government.
A sufficient cause of war is one that, if present, guarantees the occurrence of war. A is a sufficient
cause of B if B always occurs whenever A exists (Baylis et al 2002, p. 27). For example, if two states
hate each other and cannot tolerate co existence then that is a sufficient cause of war between them.
Cause of war can be sufficient without being necessary and vice versa.
Category of necessary and sufficient do not cover all the possible causes of war. There are
unpredictable causes of war that do not fall into these two categories such as a desire of a statesman to
annex territory belonging to neighboring states. As the theory of the war varies among the leaders,

Essay on Violence and the Media
Violence and the Media
Television programming today can be a powerful influence in developing value systems and shaping
behavior (Bee, 1998: 261 262). Unfortunately, much of today s television programming is violent. For
instance, the level of violence during Saturday morning cartoons is higher than the level of violence
during prime time. There are about six to eight violent acts per hour during prime time, versus twenty
to thirty violent acts per hour on Saturday morning cartoons ( Killing Screens, 1994). Also, well
before children finish their grade school, they will witness up to 8,000 murders and 100,000 violent
acts on television (Levine, 1995: 143).
Moreover, children spend more time learning about life through media than in ... Show more content

For example, because young children do not understand the line between fantasy and reality, one may
find children crawling down storm drains looking for them [Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles] (Minow
LaMay, 1995: 33). This example clearly represents that children do not understand that their favorite
characters are only made up characters and that they do not exist in reality. However, many children
may act upon their favorite movie or film character in such way, that they will try to imitate them.
Young children instinctively imitate actions, or rather model human behavior by observation without
always possessing the intellect or maturity to determine if such actions are appropriate. For example,
in Bandura s modeling studies children expressed more aggressive behavior toward the blow up doll
called Bobo, when they observed an adult model verbally and physically attack the doll in real life, on
film, or in a cartoon (Westen, 1996: 206). Therefore, due to the televisions programs role model
capacity to promote real world violence, there is a deep concern that watching violent programs on
television will cause children to become more aggressive. As a result of viewing violent programs on
television, children may become more aggressive toward other children, use violence and
aggressiveness in their play, and use violence to solve their

The Effects Of Nextgen On Nas Delays At Major Airports
The Effects of NextGen on NAS Delays at Major Airports The national aviation system is under
increasing demand for more and more flights as air passenger numbers continue to rise. The Federal
Aviation Administration (FAA) Aerospace Forecast Fiscal Years 2015 2035 report estimates an annual
growth of 2.0 percent per year from 2016 2035. This will equate to an average of 1.14 billion
passengers flying within the U.S. per year by the end of year 2035 (n.d., p. 47). As the number of
aircraft flying increase to accommodate passenger demand, the number of aircraft delays and risk to
flight safety are also likely to increase. The current air traffic control (ATC) infrastructure evolved
from the World War II era and wasn t designed to handle the predicted air traffic loads of the 21st
century (Hopkin, Wise Garland, 2010). In order to update the ATC system to increase its capacity, the
FAA, along with other select governing bodies have started implementing NextGen. At an estimated
cost of $18 billion through the year 2018, the NextGen system uses emerging technology and is
constantly facing challenges (United States Federal Aviation Administration, 2010). These challenges
delay the benefits received through the use of NextGen which add to the ongoing NAS delays and risk
the safety of future flights in the oversaturated airways. Although some delays are being experienced
in NextGen prorams, 30 major airports now have NextGen capabilities (NextGen Airports, 2016). The

Sociological Analysis Of The Titanic Essay
Sociological analysis of the Titanic When researching movies for my paper, I decided that the Titanic
was the perfect option. Being that the movie was based on the true event of the RMS Titanic sinking, I
knew I could also find a lot of research during the time of the Titanic to help strengthen my paper. The
movie Titanic took place in the early 1900 s, a time rich in sociological issues. Their way of life was a
lot different than ours today. Some major sociological concepts that were shown several times in the
movie were, social stratification, gender inequality and sexism, inequality of income, and
discrimination. During this time period people faced huge gaps in wealth, gender, class, and race.
Gaps between the rich and poor were extreme. The wealthy were rich and the poor were in poverty.
The middle class was not a common standing within society: you were either upper or lower class. It
was very difficult to rise above the lower class standing, and easier to fall below the upper class line
(Prezi web). Men dominated in almost all social standings; voting, ownership of land, professions,
wealth, etc. Women were still viewed as property and in most ways, treated as such. The gap between
the upper and lower class caused discrimination amongst them. Lower class was treated poorly by the
upper class and seen as less worthy. In my paper I plan to include all of these sociological issues, and
clearly connect them within the movie, Titanic. The movie Titanic was a drama,

Greek Weapons
Throughout the Middle Ages, the creation and the types of weapons, as well as the techniques of using
them, were all different and were suited for a knight s own needs. Since every knight had unique
characteristics and fighting styles, blacksmiths had to cast weapons that met their specifications.
Additionally, the knights needed to be capable of using a plethora of weapons since each had a
specific purpose for different scenarios such as using projectile weapons for ranged combat. In order
to best serve their king, they had to use their weapons skillfully and effectively. To achieve this, the
knights had to know multiple weapon techniques and fighting styles to help them outsmart or
outmaneuver their opponents. Since the knights job was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An aspect that made the creation of a weapon complex were the different physical properties of a
weapon such as the shape of the blade, weight, length, and handle design, which all varied depending
on the characteristics of the owner. For example, a weak male knight was recommended to carry a
lighter sword, so that he would be able to swing his weapon with ease. If the weak knight carried an
extremely heavy sword, the sword would be more difficult to swing, which then causes the knight s
skill in swordsmanship to diminish. Because of this, blacksmiths needed to be knowledgeable of how
each weapon functioned in relation to its physical characteristics. The first step in creating a weapon
was to find iron ores, which was the main resource used to craft many weapons. Miners had to search
for iron ores in the ground and also extract the iron from them. This process was already quite time
consuming and required a lot of difficult work. The crafting of the actual weapon was even more
arduous since blacksmiths had to hammer and weld together thin strips of iron and steel of varying
hardnesses to form the core of the blade. The production of an average steel sword often took around a
week for a decent blacksmith. However, if they were working on a weapon specifically for their king,
it took around six months to ensure perfect

The Name Of The Rose
The book, The Name of The Rose, transpires in a medieval abbey located between Pomposa and
Conques, around 1327, in which strange events befall on the monks which appear to mysteriously
correlate to the Book of Revelation (Loc 111). The author of the book, Umberto Eco, employs
medieval theology to portray philosophical ideas, such as the postmodern concept which theorizes that
all text relates to one another. Through the application of architectural imagery, the illustrative
characteristics of animals, the application of numerology, latin quotation and erroneous interpretation
of scripture, Eco composed a masterpiece that loosely parallels events and language located within the
Book of Revelation. Utilizing the circumstances of the period, the author hints at the harmful nature of
futuristic exegesis of biblical narrative, especially with a focus on the apocalyptic text of the Book of
Revelation. Apocalyptic literature, often ornamented with intricate visions, symbolism and
numerology, is a classification of cataclysmic Jewish writings which incorporate impressions of
heaven along with revelations. Through the depiction of the conflagration of the abbey, elegant
symbolism and extravagant visions within, The Name of the Rose exhibits idiosyncrasies of the
apocalyptic genre. The Book of Revelation, which contains a profuse amount of homogenous
attributes to The Name of the Rose, is also suitable to the apocalyptic labelling. Due to the vastness of
allusions between the two

  • 3. Example Of Corporate Social Responsibility We must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex (Eisenhower). This was Eisenhower s warning against the military industrial complex in his farewell address as president. Even so, our military and government have gotten out of control with the amount of money the goes to defense spending every year. This is precisely why our government needs to adopt some form of corporate social responsibility to, at some level, be able to regulate themselves. There are just too many examples of wasteful spending spawning from bad policies and dependency to ignore the source of the problem any longer. The U.S. defense budget is out of control, crucial to our economy, and too ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That s how Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the ninth largest city in Wisconsin, got their hands on a military grade armored personnel carrier (Boyd). Why is our defense spending debate only about arming soldiers? Why doesn t it includes the food chain of contractors selling arms to the military, who eBayed them to law enforcement? Or what about the way defense spending helps determine whether you have a job. Lots of parts of defense spending are domestic spending. Defense spending creates American manufacturing jobs. Going back to the tanks from before, there is one set of workers at one factory in Lima, Ohio who can make those tanks and they are the only people who can. If they get laid off we lose are tank building infrastructure and we give an American town the rust belt treatment. And there is a similar situation with the Bradly Fighting Vehicle manufactured in York, Pennsylvania and only York, Pennsylvania. What happens in Lima and York happens all over the country every time America gives itself defense jobs. The biggest example being the F 35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter. The Air Force pitched the F 35 to Congress as something the defense company Lockheed Martin would build. Lockheed promised Congress that the F 35 would create 125,000 American jobs across 46 states (Lockheed Martin). So permission to build it zipped through Congress because projects that boost 96% of the U.S. economy tend to do well in a Senate vote. The F 35 will also be the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Lean Production Is A Benefit For Selling Products Lean Production In short, lean production is essentially about receiving more from less. The point of this idea is to lessen the amount of assets or quantity, so the main focus can be utilized as a benefit for selling products and furthering assistance to customers. All while in sync, it is about making the association of the business or supply chain more productive, vaulable and more importantly effective. Lean production can be characterized from various perspectives, however the most mainstream is the elimination of all waste and continuous improvement of productivity. (Arnold, Chapman, 2012, p.340) Waste means something besides the base measure of hardware, parts, space, material, creation time and laborers time which make it completely important to increase the value of the item. Lean production is built on various effective ideas such as continuous improvement, organizing the business, and just in time production, which makes lean production so effective in supply chains. Lean production includes wiping out what might be wasteful and hence utilizing less energy, supplys, capacity and time. In return, this lessens costs and helps companies, such as supply chains, excel in business. The three basic values of supply chains are simplicity, consistency and responsibility. Lean production ties in quite well with these qualities. For instance, supply chain stores are basic in outline and all stores are fundamentally the same which makes them consistent, which is ... • 6. Emerging Therapies For Sickle Cell Anemia Emerging therapies for sickle cell anemia Cesi Salmeron Suny Rockland Community College Abstract Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an inherited disorder that produces sickle or crescent shape red blood cells. Thus, the mutated erythrocytes result in an inadequate supply of oxygen being transported throughout the body. Research shows that among those affected the most with the sickle cell gene are African Americans. In recent years, we have seen a decrease in mortality and morbidity rates as a result of new approaches to treating the disease. The more we understand the pathophysiology of sickle cell anemia, the more we learn about developing therapies for genetic disorders such as SCA. In this paper, we will briefly discuss what sickle cell anemia is and possible treatments for people with sickle cell anemia such as gene therapy and new drugs. What is sickle cell anemia? Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder. This missense mutation is characterized by mutant beta globin subunits that tend to stick together (Cummings, 2014). As a result, abnormally shaped red blood cells are produced by this disorder. The erythrocytes are sickle or crescent shaped. Sickling occurs under hypoxic conditions, in which there is insufficient supply of oxygen delivered throughout the body (Sun Xia, 2013). In order to inherit this monogenic disease, one copy of the sickle globin gene from each parent must be passed on to the offspring (Ashley Koch, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Turing Red Flag By Toby Walsh Toby Walsh addresses a number of concerns that many will overlook when it comes to technological advancements such as Artificial Intelligence (AI). I am sure there will be many who will be too fascinated by an AI inhibiting human behavior to worry about the consequences. As some may argue, we re just not at that point yet for many to care. However, as we get closer I do believe that the Turing Red Flag would benefit society as whole but not for all the reasons Walsh discusses. First, I agree that self driven vehicles should clearly be identifiable to human drivers. It could serve for a number of purposes, similar to how student drivers are identifiable on the road. For instance, seeing a student driver may influence other drivers to be more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It makes sense considering how we currently do not have anything in place to safeguard us from issues that may arise in the future. I feel like it s a step in the right direction but it depends on how deep the law wants to go in regulating the use of AI. The basic concept of the law seems fine, though. For example, going back to autonomous cars and how they should be identifiable to human drivers, it should be something subtle like what Walsh said, a distinct license plate. It definitely should not have a flashing green light placed on top of the vehicle. Imagine a world of self driving cars all with flashing green lights. It s not only intrusive but it s also very distracting. If we had AI blatantly impersonating a celebrity, such as commentating the World Cup as Messi, we wouldn t it periodically inform us that he s a bot because as mentioned earlier, it would take away from the experience. It might create a new social norm where humans will themselves pretend to be AI and who knows what issues (if any) that will bring. In addition to requiring AI to properly introduce themselves, it should also indicate that it s collecting data. Thus, the basic concepts of the Turing Red Flag law should be sustainable while carrying numerous benefits and minimal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Klhl3 Gene Essay The KLHL3 gene (Kelch like family member 3) creates a protein that works in conjunction with proteasomes to degrade unwanted proteins via an ubiquitin proteasome system. KLHL3 is mainly expressed in the cerebellum and the distal collecting tubule in the kidneys (3). is Though expressed in the KLHL3 protein has a N terminal BTB domain, a C terminal that has Ketch like repeats, and a BACK domain, forming a conformation that is a bladed beta propeller structure (1). The protein produced by this gene is part of a complex (E3 ubiquitin ligase), which functions to indicate damaged and additional proteins by labelling these with ubiquitin, which is the tag later recognized by proteasomes for breakdown (4). This labelling is possible with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mutations for KLHL3 that cause disease all involve missense mutations, resulting in a different amino acid, again noting the inability to interact with substrates (7). One mutation, for example, resulted in a cytosine to thymine nucleotide change at codon 410, changing from a serine to a leucine amino acid. This change in polarity, moving from a polar to nonpolar amino acid, disrupts regular formation of the E3 complex, not allowing for ubiquitin attachment. These missense mutations often inhibit the ability of the KLHL3 protein to form the E3 ubiquitin ligase complex, and so this prevents the normal function of identifying extraneous and damaged proteins, resulting in an excess of WNK4, due to no protein degradation as a result of the inability to tag these excess proteins. This inability to form the complex in some mutations is a result of the cluster of serine residues that were affected by the mutation, building up on the propeller domains, disrupting interactions with substrate and/or altering protein structure, though it is more common to see one or the other (6). This leads to high blood pressure, due to no control over WNK4 concentrations in the blood. It was commented on that the majority of mutations affected the ability of the KLHL3 to associate with the rest of the complex, therefore unable to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Extrinsic Allergic Alveolitis ( Hp ) Is An Inflammatory... Abstract Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP), also known as extrinsic allergic alveolitis, is an inflammatory lung disease caused by repeated inhalation of antigens in the sensitized population, and presents with allergic inflammation in the alveoli and bronchioles. It is traditionally classified into acute, subacute and chronic forms, but the criteria for such classification are often unclear. Immune complexes and lymphocytes mediate the inflammatory process of HP, which leads to high cell count in bronchoalveolar lavage. The risk factors of HP are not completely clear, but both genes and environment are probably involved in the initiation of HP. Removal of antigens is the best way to prevent and manage HP. Finally two common forms of occupational HP, metalworking fluid induced HP and hot tub lung, are reviewed. Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) is an inflammatory lung disease that is sometimes called extrinsic allergic alveolitis. Considering the disease also affects bronchioles, however, the name of HP seems more accurate and universally accepted (Quirce et al., 2016). HP, of which farmer s lung was the earliest discovered, is induced by repeated inhalation of antigens in the sensitized population, and presents with allergic inflammation in the alveoli and bronchioles (Chmelik et al., 1974; Johansson et al., 2001). However, this kind of allergic response is NOT IgE mediated as in the case of many allergic diseases. It should be borne in mind as the discussion of HP ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. A Discussion On Ethics And Law Essay Enron, a Discussion on Ethics and Law Leadership s Role in Ethical Dilemma As documented in a promotional video for Enron, Kenneth Lay states: Enron is a company that deals with everyone with absolute integrity. We play by all the rules. . . We want people to leave a transaction with Enron thinking they have been dealt with in the highest possible way, as far as integrity and truthfulness and really doing our business right. (Enron Vision and Values, 1998, 3:32) Whereas this message was intended to affirm corporate mindset, Lay s business leadership and conflict resolution promoted the contrary. In 1985, Kenneth Lay founded Enron Corporation to satisfy his personal ambition and insight in the deregulation of energy markets. As many entrepreneurs do, Lay placed a focus on the success and future of his business on the financial performance and growth rate. Although short term success can be gained by focusing solely on the bottom line, long term success can only occur by first meeting the requirements of the law and maintaining integrity through ethical decision making. As you will see, Lay s leadership focus on the priority of enhancing the bottom line actually trumped his ability to promote ethical and legal decision making for his organization. This conflict was the root of the problem that promoted individuals in the organization to make unethical and unlawful decisions on a business level as well as personal level. First, an overview of the new public management model is provided. Second, a brief description of the nonprofit organization, Hands Across the World is provided. Third, the new public management model is applied to Hands Across the World. New Public Management Today the new public management (NPM) model is the leading worldview in the public sector. The political climate and ideology during the 1970s and 1980s served as an impetus to migrate away from the old public administration approach and implement new policies and procedures that would be of better service to the public interest and collective good as well as restore trust and value in the bureaucratic process. Thus, during the mid 1990s, the new public management worldview was realized to apply common practices used in the private sector to the public sector. The goal of this approach was to achieve the same level of efficiency found in the private sector and remove some of the redundancy, lack of transparency, and lack of accountability in bureaucratic government to better serve the public interest. David Osborne and Ted Gaebler s Reinventing Government (1992) served as a catalytic novel in the progression of implementing private practices in the public sector. • 15. Metaphors In American Childhood We could have ran through every backyard in North America until we got to Panama (Dillard 48). This is just one of Dillard s many metaphors throughout the novel that portrays a deep awareness of space and time. Through metaphors Dillard captures a true depth in the novel that regular sentences can not obtain. Normal sentences might pull a reader in, however metaphors can truly captivate the reader to imagine all new possibilities. Dillard shows through metaphors of sight, time, and understanding that as you grow older your awareness of time and space deepens in understanding. Sight is one of the few senses that a young child is able to use freely. A young child can have an outlook that looks completely different than what an adult has. In An American Childhood, Dillard explores her Pittsburgh and sees many things including, which she describes as, a black phalanx (34). This metaphor is explicit because a phalanx is meant for a mass of people, not a few nuns that are walking down the street. Phalanx describes these nuns well because it is a word Dillard attributes to something she sees as unknown and mystifying. The mystifying nuns represent one of the first real things that Dillard sees in Pittsburgh that frightens her. Dillard uses this metaphor as a sign of fear when amongst the nuns, but the reader can see through her word choice that the awareness she has of the world is pretty open. Dillard is able to see nuns in her travels and think deeply about her thoughts. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through the use of colour, lighting, camera movement, dialogue and characterisation, Hitchcock produces a film that fascinates and intrigues us. One of the key techniques, which Hitchcock makes, use of in Vertigo is the different use of colour. He chooses certain colours due to their symbolic connotations and then uses them to contrast different characters. He frequently uses green and red, for example when Scottie meets Madeleine for the first time, the restaurant is decorated in red with the visitors wearing mainly dark clothing. The lighting used by Hitchcock also serves to portray Madeleine as a fantasy woman, using the lighting to highlight her face. As Madeleine passes by Scottie in the restaurant she is bathed in a soft light which makes her all the more noticeable against the backdrop of a dimly lit restaurant. Furthermore, as she passes by him, she is shown in a full body shot in the center of the frame, which Hitchcock uses to create an overwhelming sense of romance. Here, Madeleine is the desired object clearly separated from her mundane surroundings. The viewer is aggressively confronted with Madeleine s image and this allows us to be swept up in the romantic fantasy along with Scottie. The lighting used in this scene actively draws the viewer to her features and ensures that all attention is on her. The audience are enticed and seduced by her and this stretches to Scottie as well as we can see that he is drawn to her and has to make an effort to be covert. The scene begins with the camera moving towards a door made of radiant red glass. The camera then moves to from Scottie s position at the bar. • 32. Necessary Causes Of War Permissive causes of war are those features of the international system which, while not actively promoting war, nevertheless allow it to happen (Baylis et al 2002, p. 71). The lack of ungoverned international system some believe is the root that causes war. There are reasonable arguments for both. It has also been found useful to distinguish between necessary and sufficient causes of war. A necessary condition is one that must be present for it to occur if that condition is not present then there will be no breakout of war. The existence of arms is a necessary condition of war because without weapons no war can be fought. It is also necessary for humans to be in organized groups states, tribes, ethnic groups, nations, or mechanisms for preventing it such as an effective world government. A sufficient cause of war is one that, if present, guarantees the occurrence of war. A is a sufficient cause of B if B always occurs whenever A exists (Baylis et al 2002, p. 27). For example, if two states hate each other and cannot tolerate co existence then that is a sufficient cause of war between them. Cause of war can be sufficient without being necessary and vice versa. Category of necessary and sufficient do not cover all the possible causes of war. There are unpredictable causes of war that do not fall into these two categories such as a desire of a statesman to annex territory belonging to neighboring states. • 33. Essay on Violence and the Media Violence and the Media Television programming today can be a powerful influence in developing value systems and shaping behavior (Bee, 1998: 261 262). Unfortunately, much of today s television programming is violent. For instance, the level of violence during Saturday morning cartoons is higher than the level of violence during prime time. There are about six to eight violent acts per hour during prime time, versus twenty to thirty violent acts per hour on Saturday morning cartoons ( Killing Screens, 1994). Also, well before children finish their grade school, they will witness up to 8,000 murders and 100,000 violent acts on television (Levine, 1995: 143). Moreover, children spend more time learning about life through media than in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, because young children do not understand the line between fantasy and reality, one may find children crawling down storm drains looking for them [Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles] (Minow LaMay, 1995: 33). This example clearly represents that children do not understand that their favorite characters are only made up characters and that they do not exist in reality. However, many children may act upon their favorite movie or film character in such way, that they will try to imitate them. Young children instinctively imitate actions, or rather model human behavior by observation without always possessing the intellect or maturity to determine if such actions are appropriate. For example, in Bandura s modeling studies children expressed more aggressive behavior toward the blow up doll called Bobo, when they observed an adult model verbally and physically attack the doll in real life, on film, or in a cartoon (Westen, 1996: 206). Therefore, due to the televisions programs role model capacity to promote real world violence, there is a deep concern that watching violent programs on television will cause children to become more aggressive. As a result of viewing violent programs on television, children may become more aggressive toward other children, use violence and aggressiveness in their play, and use violence to solve their ... • 34. The Effects Of Nextgen On Nas Delays At Major Airports The Effects of NextGen on NAS Delays at Major Airports The national aviation system is under increasing demand for more and more flights as air passenger numbers continue to rise. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Aerospace Forecast Fiscal Years 2015 2035 report estimates an annual growth of 2.0 percent per year from 2016 2035. This will equate to an average of 1.14 billion passengers flying within the U.S. per year by the end of year 2035 (n.d., p. 47). As the number of aircraft flying increase to accommodate passenger demand, the number of aircraft delays and risk to flight safety are also likely to increase. The current air traffic control (ATC) infrastructure evolved from the World War II era and wasn t designed to handle the predicted air traffic loads of the 21st century (Hopkin, Wise Garland, 2010). In order to update the ATC system to increase its capacity, the FAA, along with other select governing bodies have started implementing NextGen. At an estimated cost of $18 billion through the year 2018, the NextGen system uses emerging technology and is constantly facing challenges (United States Federal Aviation Administration, 2010). These challenges delay the benefits received through the use of NextGen which add to the ongoing NAS delays and risk the safety of future flights in the oversaturated airways. Although some delays are being experienced in NextGen prorams, 30 major airports now have NextGen capabilities (NextGen Airports, 2016). The cost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Sociological Analysis Of The Titanic Essay Sociological analysis of the Titanic When researching movies for my paper, I decided that the Titanic was the perfect option. Being that the movie was based on the true event of the RMS Titanic sinking, I knew I could also find a lot of research during the time of the Titanic to help strengthen my paper. The movie Titanic took place in the early 1900 s, a time rich in sociological issues. Their way of life was a lot different than ours today. Some major sociological concepts that were shown several times in the movie were, social stratification, gender inequality and sexism, inequality of income, and discrimination. During this time period people faced huge gaps in wealth, gender, class, and race. Gaps between the rich and poor were extreme. The wealthy were rich and the poor were in poverty. The middle class was not a common standing within society: you were either upper or lower class. It was very difficult to rise above the lower class standing, and easier to fall below the upper class line (Prezi web). Men dominated in almost all social standings; voting, ownership of land, professions, wealth, etc. Women were still viewed as property and in most ways, treated as such. The gap between the upper and lower class caused discrimination amongst them. Lower class was treated poorly by the upper class and seen as less worthy. In my paper I plan to include all of these sociological issues, and clearly connect them within the movie, Titanic. The movie Titanic was a drama, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The latest revised estimate of actual litre volume for 1999 was thus used. Rather than trying to get too sophisticated on the first attempt at budgeting, Mr. Peterson had decided just to go with 1999 s estimated volume as 2000 s goal or forecast. He felt that there was plenty of time in later years to refine the system by bringing in more formal sales forecasting techniques and concepts. Since every knight had unique characteristics and fighting styles, blacksmiths had to cast weapons that met their specifications. Additionally, the knights needed to be capable of using a plethora of weapons since each had a specific purpose for different scenarios such as using projectile weapons for ranged combat. In order to best serve their king, they had to use their weapons skillfully and effectively. To achieve this, the knights had to know multiple weapon techniques and fighting styles to help them outsmart or outmaneuver their opponents. Since the knights job was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An aspect that made the creation of a weapon complex were the different physical properties of a weapon such as the shape of the blade, weight, length, and handle design, which all varied depending on the characteristics of the owner. For example, a weak male knight was recommended to carry a lighter sword, so that he would be able to swing his weapon with ease. If the weak knight carried an extremely heavy sword, the sword would be more difficult to swing, which then causes the knight s skill in swordsmanship to diminish. Because of this, blacksmiths needed to be knowledgeable of how each weapon functioned in relation to its physical characteristics. The first step in creating a weapon was to find iron ores, which was the main resource used to craft many weapons. Miners had to search for iron ores in the ground and also extract the iron from them. This process was already quite time consuming and required a lot of difficult work. The crafting of the actual weapon was even more arduous since blacksmiths had to hammer and weld together thin strips of iron and steel of varying hardnesses to form the core of the blade. The production of an average steel sword often took around a week for a decent blacksmith. However, if they were working on a weapon specifically for their king, it took around six months to ensure perfect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Name Of The Rose The book, The Name of The Rose, transpires in a medieval abbey located between Pomposa and Conques, around 1327, in which strange events befall on the monks which appear to mysteriously correlate to the Book of Revelation (Loc 111). The author of the book, Umberto Eco, employs medieval theology to portray philosophical ideas, such as the postmodern concept which theorizes that all text relates to one another. Through the application of architectural imagery, the illustrative characteristics of animals, the application of numerology, latin quotation and erroneous interpretation of scripture, Eco composed a masterpiece that loosely parallels events and language located within the Book of Revelation. Utilizing the circumstances of the period, the author hints at the harmful nature of futuristic exegesis of biblical narrative, especially with a focus on the apocalyptic text of the Book of Revelation. Apocalyptic literature, often ornamented with intricate visions, symbolism and numerology, is a classification of cataclysmic Jewish writings which incorporate impressions of heaven along with revelations. Through the depiction of the conflagration of the abbey, elegant symbolism and extravagant visions within, The Name of the Rose exhibits idiosyncrasies of the apocalyptic genre. The Book of Revelation, which contains a profuse amount of homogenous attributes to The Name of the Rose, is also suitable to the apocalyptic labelling.
