Argumentative Essay On Abortion
Writing an argumentative essay on the topic of abortion can be a challenging and sensitive task.
This particular subject evokes strong emotions and beliefs on both sides of the debate, making it
crucial for the writer to navigate carefully through the intricacies of the issue. Crafting a well-
reasoned and persuasive argument requires thorough research, a deep understanding of the
various perspectives, and the ability to present a balanced view.
One difficulty lies in the vast amount of information available, ranging from medical and ethical
considerations to legal and societal implications. Sorting through these diverse viewpoints and
selecting relevant evidence to support your stance can be time-consuming. Additionally,
maintaining objectivity and avoiding personal biases is essential to present a fair and compelling
argument.
Addressing counterarguments is another challenge. Acknowledging opposing views and
effectively countering them requires a nuanced approach. Striking a balance between empathy
for differing opinions and staying true to your thesis is crucial to building a strong and
convincing case.
Furthermore, the sensitivity of the topic adds an extra layer of complexity. Writers must be
mindful of the emotional impact their words may have on readers, ensuring that their arguments
are respectful and considerate. Balancing emotional appeal with logical reasoning is a delicate
task, requiring careful choice of language and tone.
In conclusion, writing an argumentative essay on abortion demands a thorough understanding of
the subject, extensive research, and the ability to navigate through emotionally charged content.
It is essential to present a well-rounded argument while acknowledging opposing views and
maintaining a respectful tone. Despite the challenges, a well-crafted essay on this topic can
contribute to a meaningful and informed discussion. If you find yourself struggling with such

Watching And Waiting Short Story Essay
When receding into the memories of childhood, many think of the famous Disney
movies that have captured audience s imaginations for decades. Many of these
films contain deeper hidden meanings in an attempt to teach young viewers a life
lesson. These life lessons can be compared to pieces of literature such as the short
story, Watching and Waiting . Examples such as The Little Mermaid, Monsters Inc,
Lilo and Stitch contain the messages of not taking things for granted, jumping to
conclusions, and family is not defined by blood, but by love. Life is a wonderful
gift, which should never be taken for granted. This is not the case for the short story,
Watching and Waiting , and famous Disney film The Little Mermaid , as they both

He believes that because of their age difference she would be disloyal to him
however, this turns out to be false, and would eventually lead to him being shot.
The film, Monsters Inc can also be compared to the short story, because Mike and
Sully are initially terrified of Boo, which is shown in the first scene where they
meet Boo. They are terrified of the young, human, girl at first, but eventually grew
to like her and become friends with the young girl. Jumping to conclusions can be
extremely dangerous as it leads to Thomas getting shot, and Mike and Sully almost
miss out on a new friend. Family is the strongest bond there is in the world. Family
is not bound by blood but bound by the love people share with each other. In
Watching and Waiting , the Hillard family is being torn apart by the lack of love
and communication. Quote. Mrs. Hillard feels as if she is no longer a part of
Thomas s family because, Mr.Hillard has been too busy keeping her away from the
rest of civilization to give her the love and attention she needs. Similar to the family
in Watching and Waiting the family in Lilo and Stitch are also bound by something
stronger than blood. Lilo finds a new member of her family in the strangest being. A
small blue alien named Stitch burrows his way into her life, and even though they
were not born into family, their bond is just as strong. In both the film and the text,
family is shown to be a very important driving force. In the film, Lilo and
Comparing The Alien And Forgotten Planet By Doug
Delanty
From the moment they are born, children are wondering about their world. Parents
often enjoy watching their children grow up and reflect upon what they discovered
and what they have yet to discover. In The Alien , Greg Delanty is describing
expecting parents questions while awaiting a child. Similarly, in Forgotten Planet ,
Doug Dorph describes children s imaginationand compares it to adulthood. The
parents in these poems are able to rely upon space or visualize it as to having an
important role in the life of a child. Both The Alien by Greg Delanty and Forgotten
Planet by Doug Dorph use a motif of space as parents search to understand children;
however, the parentfigures in the poems view space in different ways.
In The Alien , Delanty explains the anxious feeling that parents have before having a
baby and uses the motif of space to try to explain how parents try to answer some of
the questions they have. As the experience of having a child is new to these parents,
they use a metaphor to compare their child to an alien and a martian (Delanty 9, 11).
This demonstrates that they are anxious because they neither know how the child
will behave nor how to cooperate with the new child. They also have other questions
about their coming child, expressed when Delanty writes, we re anxious/ to make

Cochlear Implant Essay
Introduction: Robotics and biomechanics have been around since 600 BC. They
have impacted people lives significantly in good and bad ways. Hearing aids have
been around since 100 A.D and have helped many people be able to hear much
clearer for a long period of time. Another fantastic thing that has been invented are
cochlear implants that have been around a lot less than hearing aids as they have
only been around since October of 1982. I chose to design a new device that replaces
an existing human body part as if that part had been lost. I am designing a device
similar to a cochlear implant, however it would be a small piece behind your earso
that it can go unnoticed in daily life. I chose this design as I know someone in my
life with a hearing problem. They get teased when they mishear something and often
say the wrong thing. If a person get a real cochlear implant some of them think that
people would look at them differently. Cochlear implants are different to normal
hearing aid because the cochlear implant allow people that are deaf the hear.... Show

The first cochlear implant was in October 1982, Melbourne man Graham Carrick.
The implant was implanted into his cochlear and then was switched on and in 15
minutes later her could hear for the first time in 17 years. Since that day 200,000
people have had that same experience, that is why I wanted to do a cochlear
implant. My upgraded cochlear implant it the same as the normal one it is just less
visitable, so the people that are wearing feel more comfortable. This project grew out
of the Professor Clarks research at the University of Melbourne during the 1970s,
when he became the head of the University s Department of
Treasury and Liberals Social Poilicies
Many senior officials at the Treasury regarded the rising defence estimates and the
Liberals social policies as dangerous because they required a constantly rising level
of expenditure. It soon became clear, however, that such approach was not
appropriate. The outcome of the war became fully dependent on state action and not
merely on the economy. It was of a crucial importance for the Cabinet to step in,
allocate manpower, and organize the industry so as to avoid an inefficient use of
resources (capital and people). Hence, Lloyd George stepped in and decided to
initiate Reconstruction by restructuring the Cabinet and introducing various
Committees, Ministries, and Commissions which were to assume extended powers
and responsibilities within the private sphere of civil activities. It was, however,
unclear whether this change in faith would pertain over the post war period as well.
Furthermore, the aftermath of the war was not a pleasant sight for any politician
taking office at the time. The situation awaiting Lloyd George, who had already
been assuming the role of a Prime Minister during the war, had been even more
damaging partially due to his party s increasingly severe internal struggles which
began with the social reforms of 1906. Even before the climax of the war, it became
apparent that the Liberal Party was most likely unable to restore its significance or
even secure its survival in the post war government. Liberals led by Lloyd George
became increasingly

The competition is doing well. They currently have holiday promotions on
Christmas and Labor Day. They offer a discounted rate if you are part of a group
of 7 or more. They are larger than us and operate in several states. Their marketing
plans are lacking impact in that they mainly focus on billboard advertising and word

We will be using an interactive agency that will specialize in developing a strong
strategic web site. They will integrate banner ads, streaming video, instant
messaging. We feel like we need an outside agency to assist in this because our web
site will be an important and integral part of our integrated marketing plan. We will
also use a direct response agency to do target market research so that we can reach
the desired demographic.
Chapter 4: 1) Describe the consumer decision process.
Our consumer may seek our service or our service may seek the consumer. What I
mean is that some people are interested and will actively search for a place to jump
from. They will look at the few other places around the Atlanta area, ask around a
little bit, and then decide. Other people will hear people describe their experiences,
see their video tape, and then seek us out. Some may not have a decision at all if they
are given a jump as a gift. Factors that will motivate the decision are a) a search for
excitement/adrenalin b) Fear of heights (to overcome) c) given as a gift and don t
want to decline d) A large group of friends are going (peer pressure) e) fulfilling a
predetermined destiny. I will skydive before I die etc.

Stereotypes In Poussey Washington s Orange Is The New
Black
Poussey Washington was one of the central characters in Orange is the New Black
until her tragic death in season four of the series. The portrayal of her character in the
series is particularly interesting when looking at her identity through an intersectional
lens. Poussey is an African American, openly gay woman. This recognized identity
evidences that, overall, Orange is the New Blackis one of the more diverse and
progressive shows currently being produced considering there aren t many popular
shows with a principal black lesbian character. Poussey is arguably an audience
favorite considering the immense backlash received when her character was
murdered in the series. Disregarding the fact that she is in jail, her character goes
against stereotypes of the way black women are oftentimes portrayed in media. In
John Cones Patterns of Bias in Hollywood he states, Of course, Hollywood has a
long history of portraying African Americans in a negative or stereotypical manner,
pre dating World War II (232). Still the lingering effects of these biases still remain in
countless Hollywood productions by portraying black women as angry, uneducated,
loud, vindictive, petty, victims of domestic abuse, lacking father figures and endless
other negative stereotypes. However, Poussey Washington diverges from these
stereotypes.
Poussey is shown as intelligent. She works in the library of the penitentiary with
her head always in a book. She is clearly educated as she is show speaking

ways to help oceans get cleaner. A good idea to help the ocean could be making a

This seems strange because the surface waters in the South Pacific are definitely
warmer. However, because the ratio of land to sea area is greater in the North
Pacific, the cumulative amount of cold deep water is less. In other words, the
average temperature of waters in the North Pacific is warmer because there are more
coastal areas. Also, the deep currents coming up from Antarctica into the South
Pacific bring intensely cold waters with them. By contrast, most of the cold outflow
from the Arctic Ocean enters the Atlantic Ocean via a strong current known as the

Leo The Lion
Leo the Lion is a horoscope animal and famous constellation. The word Leo means
lion in Latin. But not everyone sees a lion in those stars. The Incas of Peru see a
puma and the Chinese see a horse. But to the Greeks it was a lion. To locate Leo,
look for a backward question mark and a triangle. The question mark is called the
sickle or scythe and is the front of Leo. The dot of the question mark is the star
Regulus. First find the Big Dipper in the constellation Ursa Major (The Great
Bear). It will lead to Regulus. Find the two stars near the handle of the Big Dipper.
Make a straight line through the Bear s paws. The line should hit the first star in Leo
s shoulder. Keep going and the line will hit Regulus. This star is 100 times brighter
How Travel Is Good For The Soul
I have always believed that travel is good for the soul. It can make your mind and
body stronger through new experiences and adventures. Since my father lives in
Germany and my mom lives here in Wilmington, I have been able to visit Europe
frequently to visit my family living in Germany. My father s side of the familymeets

have been fortunate enough to meet interesting people and see amazing sights; hear
different stories and live in what seem to be other worlds. Over the past few years I
have traveled to Germany and Spain quite frequently, and spent some time in
Switzerland and France. Traveling is something I love to do, but it is also necessary

The term Blood is thicker than water really makes sense here. It is a common
misconception and misunderstanding that blood means family and water is
friendship, but it is actually reversed. The blood of the covenant (bonds with other
people) is thicker than the water of the womb (family members). Yes, it took a
village. Since I am only sixteen, there is still tons of growing up to do and plenty
of room for error and mistakes. At least we have a good support system! So in
recent years since I am older, I have made an effort to spend lots of time with my
dad and that side of family since we have been separated by the Atlantic Ocean. At
the end of May this summer, I flew to Germany to see my dad. We spent time
together and after a week, went to Mallorca. In Mallorca you see lots of different
people and cultures come together on an extremely old island that has an amazing
history, since the Vikings and the Moors have lived there among many other
groups. You can see their influence on architecture when you see many old
buildings and churches, which is exactly what we did biking through Palma and
Cala Ratjada. Walking through shopping areas and on Bodega La Rambla in
Palma, you frequently walk past Gypsy beggars. They are usually stationed after
every block or so. I have had a few interesting encounters with Gypsies, beginning in
2010 on a trip to Lanzarote. A New Years Eve party had been organized, and a group
of gypsy musicians performed
The Learning Theories Of English Language Education
This qualitative study is designed to answer the following primary question: What are
the learning theories of English language education that are used in the Palestinian
Refugee Camps in Jordan and Israel? This question will branch into the following
three secondary questions:
1 What are the sociocultural and socio economic, gender, literacy, political conflict,
religion, race, political stability, religion, sexual identity aspects and their influence in
English language education in an extra ordinary and a challenging learning
environment?
2 What are the strategies used to deal with refugee students limited English language
literacy with relevance to previous leanings and prior experiences that influence their
current English language acquisition?
3 What is the contextual and relational nature of the students identity in the refugees
schools?
My interest in this study stems from my bilingual, political and social background.
My birth and rowing up in Jerusalem in the seventies of the last century made me
aware of certain historical wars that led the Palestinians to flee from their homeland in
Palestine in 1948 and 1967, Lebanon in 1970 and Syria in 2011 enhanced my

this topic is relevant to my ESL teaching background and being an instructor who
taught English as a second language in the Mediterranean and Arabian Gulf countries
between 1985 2011.

No variable п¬Ѓts a normal distribution perfectly, since a normal distribution is a
theoretical distribution. However, a normal distribution can be used to describe
many variables, because the deviations from a normal distribution are very small.
This concept will be explained further in Section 6 1.
When the data values are evenly distributed about the mean, a distribution is said
to be a symmetric distribution. (A normal distribution is symmetric.) Figure 6 2(a)
shows a symmetric distribution. When the majority of the data values fall to the
left or right of the mean, the distribution is said to be skewed. When the majority
of the data values fall to the right of the mean, the distribution is said to be a
negatively or left skewed distribution. The mean is to the left of the median, and
the mean and the median are to the left of the mode. See Figure 6 2(b). When the
majority of the data values fall to the left of the mean, a distribution is said to be a
positively or right skewed distribution. The mean falls to the right of the median, and
both the mean and the median fall to the right of the mode. See Figure 6 2(c).

Parliamentary Protests Of The United States
The threat presented by extra parliamentary protest in the years 1815 20 was
plagued by weak and divided leadership which limited it from driving results that
met its full potential. However, there were also other factors that served to
undermine progress such as the actions of the government in repressing dissenters
and the low level of available logistical resources .
Evan tells us in Source 3 that the movement lacked coherent leadership. His view
supports the argument for the threat being undermined by the weakness of having
too many orators captivated by the sound of their own voices of whom not enough
bridged the gap between rhetoric and reality. Being unable to convey the actions
people would be required to take for change within their messages reduced the
movement almost to a talking shop of radical leaders, carried away without realistic
planning . We can see the fruits of their failed labours in the way the government had
little difficulty in handling any protests and this repeated derailing meant there was
rarely a leadership united enough to effectively inspire confidence. On the other hand,
Thompson deems radicalism to have assumed more conscious, organised and
sophisticated forms , going so far as to call it a heroic age , which somewhat refutes
the criticisms of inadequacy in the power of the speeches made. Indeed, the reality
that in addition to Norwich and Sheffield: Nottingham, Coventry and Bolton were
also assessed by the authorities as being
Joseph Mccarthy In The Red Scare
While both of the figures were in power, it was vital that they had a way to stop
any opposition that challenged them. When Joseph Mccarthy controlled the people
of the United States, it was essential that he had a plan for ways to cut down any
opposition. If someone opposed him, he could then accuse them of supporting
communism. Therefore, many people were afraid to accuse McCarthy of lying.
There were also other examples of punishment for communism throughout the Red
Scare. The Rosenbergs were a couple in New York with two kids. They may have
appeared innocent, but they were actually unmistakably supporters of communism
(Reeves Rosenberg ). Ethel Greenglass was born in New York City, 1915 ( Ethel ).

While McCarthy was famous, many people trusted and believed him. There were
also those who opposed him. While most people who challenged him were
targeted, there was one who succeeded. This man was Edward R. Murrow. He was
a famous American TV and radio broadcaster. He gained his popularity during his
broadcasts from the Battle of Britain. He was also a well trusted figure in America.
From 1951 1957 he had a TV show called See It Now (Sanders). It was widely
viewed and credible. The show was a groundbreaking one because for the first time
videographers would film it on the scene of the event (Sanders). In its most famous
episode, Murrow attacked McCarthy. He criticized the senator s inconsistency and
false accusations (Carey). He pointed out mistakes in many of McCarthy s speeches.
Cold War Museum writer Rachel Carey wrote, Murrow helped ease some fears of
spies in the U.S. living among the public and made sure innocent citizens received
justice (Carey). Citizens of the United States also stopped trusting McCarthy. He was
exposed as a corrupt and fake figure in politics. Another event that exposed him was
the Army McCarthy hearings in April through June of 1954. This was a series of
nationally televised hearings following McCarthy s accusing the army of being
involved in subversive activities. This event further revealed his lying. Finally, in
1954, the United States Senate adopts a resolution reprimanding McCarthy for his
hunt against people who had not done anything wrong (Carey). McCarthy died on

Response Paper One
A. Both Philosophers believe that inequality exists in the world and that it comes out
of the imperfection of humans. How some people work harder, whether it be from
natural skill or from the innate desire to work hard and prosper. Either way inequality
come out of the ability of some people being able to do a task and others unable to do
that task. Unlike Locke Rousseau believes that inequality stems from people having
different talents or jobs. He believes that the pretty, strong, talented, and intelligent
surpass their peers and that this is the beginnings of inequality. Rousseau believes that
their should be limits on resources. That people should only have what they truly
need. Locke saids more that the right to private property ... Show more content on

I would like to agree yet also disagree with Rousseau when he saids that civilized
meant ruined mankind. Rousseau stated, With the poet, it is gold and silver, but
with the philosopher it is iron and corn, which have civilized men, and ruined
mankind. Accordingly both one and the other were unknown to the savages of
America, who for that very reason have always continued savages... (Rousseau 23
24). In this quote the reader can see the mention of ruined mankind The reason I
disagree is because without the strives to better man kind we would not be as smart
and would not have as much technology and constant improvement in the world. But
on the other hand I can understand why Rousseau saids that man kind was ruined.
That is because when the Europeans came to the Americas they did not understand
the Native Americans way of life and that is why they were considered savages. But
in the end I believe Rousseau is defending the Native American life style because
they had less, but lived in harmony and lived happily in their own way. This is still a
mentality that adds to inequality. The fact that we do not understand does not mean

Physical Therapy And Traditional Physical Therapists
Physical therapy was invented in the 1920 s during the polio epidemic ( Physical,
2014). Therefore allowing physical therapists are needed all over. They help people
with their injuries and helps them cope with any pain they may have. Pediatric
physical therapy and tradition physical therapy only differ in the age that they work
with. Pediatric physical therapists work with children under the age of eighteen,
while tradition physical therapists work with people over the age of eighteen. Some
factors that are considered when looking into the pediatric physical therapycareer are,
the reasons someone needs pediatric physical therapy, the education that is needed,
the salary they receive their job outlook, skills that s needed to be a successful
physical therapist, and qualifications needed for the different job settings. As long
as a person is under the age of 21 they qualify for pediatric physical therapy, over
the age they then move into traditional physical therapy. Children at different ages
require different types of pediatric physical therapy ( N/IICU, 2012). Newborns
require physical therapy to help them breath on their own, or help the baby learn
to calm down whenever they receive a pacifier ( N/IICU, 2012). Children need
physical therapy for, cerebral palsy, chronic pain, brain injuries, muscle weakness,
or bone breaks ( Pediatric, 2014). Pediatric physical therapy is often used in order to
indicate develop motor skills ( Pediatric, 2014). Pediatric physical
The Life and Works of Margaret Atwood
An Examination the Life and Works of Margaret Atwood Born on November 18,
1939, Margaret Eleanor Atwood was raised by Carl Edmund and Margaret
Dorothy Atwood ( Atwood, Margaret 1939 . Concise Major 21st Century Writers).
Born in Ottawa and raised in Toronto she spent the larger part of her youth in
Canada ( Atwood, Margaret (1939 ). Gothic Literature: A Gale Critical
Companion). As a young child she was raised in an intellectually stimulating
environment and was encouraged to pursue a life in which education is highly
valued ( Atwood, Margaret. British, Irish, and Commonwealth Poets). Her
childhood played a pivotal role in her future life, including her works, beliefs, and
goals. Raised by an entomologist, her fondness of nature most was likely extended
to her from her father through means of family trips to the isolated safe havens of
Quebec and Ontario. These locations were the subject of her father s study and
research ( Atwood, Margaret. British, Irish, and Commonwealth Poets). From the
year 1957 to 1961 she worked on her undergraduate degree in English at Victoria
college at the University of Toronto. Whilst studying there, Atwood became
influenced by Canadian poet Jay MacPherson and by Northrop Frye. They
encouraged Atwood to write poetry in her early writing career and pointed her toward
using biblical and mythological symbols and archetype, which are still prevalent in
her writing ( Atwood, Margaret. British, Irish, and Commonwealth Poets). During

The Between Russia And Brandenburg Prussia
L Г©tat, c est moi. I am the state, as quoted by Louis XIV. This is a great example of
the meaning of absolutism. The kingdoms of France, Russia and Brandenburg
Prussia are ample evidence to prove that absolutism worked and was a commonality
compared to constitutionalism. This issue then falls to whether the differences or the
similarities of these kingdoms are more important in European and World History.
The following will provide an argument to support that the similarities of the
kingdoms should be more heavily stressed.
France was set up for absolute monarchy by King Henry IV. Henry s ambitions
neutralized the clash between Catholics and Protestants, in the Edict of Nantes.
Before Henry s assassination, he had created a financial surplus in the kingdom.
Next in line for the throne was Louis XIII, Henry s son, but he was too young to
rule, so Cardinal Richelieu had control over the kingdom. He limited the political
privileges of the Huguenots and involved France in the Thirty Years War, and by
doing this he affirmed the royal power and engaged France more in European affairs.
After Richelieu s death, Louis XIII died and, his son, Louis XIV, who was five years
old, inherited the throne. When Louis turned 23 he stepped forward to claim the
throne, believing that God had given him the position of King of France. The Sun
King, as Louis was called, surrounded himself with the nobles to keep them from
governing their districts as effectively and thus empowering himself.

Reflection Paper On Court Hearing
This reflection paper is over my fifth week at my practicum site. This week I was in
the office on Monday and Tuesday. This week I was able to attend a court hearing
and I wrote up my visitation log from the visit that happened last week.
There are a lot of things that has to happen when the Department of Children and
Family Services (DCFS) take protective custody (PC) of a child. After DCFS has
taken PC over a child or children they have to have court within 2 days. The court
date is considered the first court hearing. The perpetrator is encouraged to come and
they have been appointed and attorney. The attorney will be there to represent their
client at this first initial court hearing.
The first court hearing consists of many different things. The first thing that happen
is the investigator is called to the stand and asked questions about what happened
during the investigation that were significant enough to take PC. This is a precaution
step to make sure the kids were removed for a legitimate reason. At this point the
judge can sign off on the order of PC or return the kids home to the perpetrator. The
investigator explained this process to me prior to going into the courtroom and she
said the judge never sends the kids back home. The perpetrator can be called to the
stand but most of the time they are not. The next thing that is put in place is a
permanency order for the child. The permanency order is put in place for temporary
housing. The last thing that is filed
Amethyst Theory
There are theories in the world that claim everything is connected. Many people often
back up this theory as being true, All is connected... No one thing can change by
itself. Some how everything has an effect on something else or is related to
something else. Even five completely different things can be related. Things such as
Amethyst, Himalayan Saltlamps, Tijuana, Jennifer Aniston, and Peace can all be
related in some way. A theory on how they are all somehow related should be easy to
do with the right research.

Himalayan Salt lamps help a lot when it comes to allergies and other illnesses.
They help enhance health and well being. These lamps put out negative ions and
neutralizes the air around you which eradicates pollution and other negative things

foothills of the Himalayan Mountains. They have been preserved for millions of
years. The lamp sizes and shapes can vary. It could be a sphere, pyramid, and bowl.
The sizes can be small, medium, large, and very large ( Facts about a Himalayan Salt
Lamp ). Himalayan salt lamps overall bring peace into your life.
(Conclusion): The easily done theories on how these are related is celebrities visit
Tijuana to get jewelry with Amethyst or to purchase Himalayan salt lamps. Jennifer
Aniston happens to be one of those celebrities to visit there for that reason. Any
theory claiming that everything has to do with each other is true. Anything and
everything is connected if you just look at it the right way. All of the things stated in

are plenty of other things that could be put together to make a theory about as

Preeclampsia
Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication characterized by the development of
hypertension and proteinuria in the second half of pregnancy. There is currently no
definitive cause, however, it is thought to result from disturbed development of the
placenta, leading to endothelial dysfunction and systemic inflammation.
Syncytiotrophoblast extracellular vesicles (STBEVs) are produced when the
syncytial placental surface is shed into the maternal circulation. We hypothesized that
this would cause vascular endothelial cell dysfunction via activation of the multi
ligand lectin like oxidized low density lipoprotein scavenger receptor (LOX 1). This
could then initiate a cascade of events. One of the effects of LOX 1 activation is the
production of reactive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
14 The main ligand for the LOX 1 receptor is oxidized low density lipoproteins (ox
LDLs), however, it is also able to bind bacteria, activated platelets, and apoptotic
cells. 14 Ox LDLs accumulate in plaques present on the walls of vascular tissue
and have been thought to disturb endothelial and vascular function via LOX 1
activation. 15 Activation of the LOX 1 receptor is known to upregulate NADPH
oxidase subunits, leading to the subsequent production of reactive oxygen species
(ROS).16 18 These ROS, specifically superoxide (O2 ), produced from activation of
LOX 1 continue to cause damage particularly in energy producing organelles like
the mitochondria.19 Damage to the mitochondria can cause endothelial
dysfunction, which leads to degradation via apoptosis and autophagy, as well as
thrombosis and smooth muscle cell proliferation.20 Interestingly, the LOX 1
receptor has been suggested to play a role in PE. Research by Zhang et al. (2015)
and Sankaralingam et al. (2008) has demonstrated that LOX 1 expression is
significantly increased both in the placenta, as well as the vasculature in PE patients.
The exact mechanism is unclear; however, oxidative stress (possibly resulting from
the circulating factors released during PE) has been shown to increase LOX 1
expression on
The Lie About College Diversity Summary
In The New York Times, the article The Lie About College Diversity. by Frank
Bruni discusses his theory on college diversity. Bruni explains that colleges are
trying to enhance their campus. The college fails to get these diverse groups to go
outside their comfort zone and intermingle. There are places where these groups can
go to feel comfortable like housing environments, groups, fraternities, and clubs.
However, they fail to go outside these groups. The colleges should help make it
possible for these different diverse groups to interact, socialize, and drive cohesion.
This will help collegestudents integrate better into real world diverse environments.
Even if the colleges are achieving their goals to get a diverse student body to the
campuses, they fail to get those groups to interact. In the article The Lie About
College Diversity, Bruni s interpretation on diversity explains that common college
diversity programs are categorizing students together with similar backgrounds. Only
a number of programs accept students to interact with fellow diversity students with
different cultures, backgrounds or ethnic groups. These programs do not motivate
students to reach out and share their thoughts with other groups because they could
get rejected. By learning other points of view and having diversity in the learning
environment, it also helps individuals communicate better. It also opens minds to
ideas and concepts they might not have considered and provide them with

Exodus begins the story of God s revelation to his people Israel through Moses,
who leads them out of Egypt (Exodus 1 18) to Mount Sinai. There the people
accept the covenant with God, agreeing to be his people and abide by his holy Law,
in return for his agreeing to be their God, and protect and defend them from their
enemies, and provide for and prosper them . Moses receives the Torah from God, and
teaches His laws and Covenant (Exodus 19 24) to the people of Israel. It also talks
about the first violation of the covenant when the Golden Calf was constructed
(Exodus 32 34). Exodus includes the instructions on building the Tabernacle and
concludes with its actual construction (Exodus 25 31; 35 40).
Leviticus begins with instructions to the Israelites on how to use the Tabernacle,
which they had just built (Leviticus 1 10). This is followed by rules of clean and
unclean (Leviticus 11 15), which includes the laws of slaughter and animals
permissible to eat (see also: Kashrut), the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16), and
various moral and ritual laws sometimes called the Holiness Code (Leviticus 17 26).
Leviticus 26 provides a detailed list of rewards for following God s commandments

Are Humans Inherently Good Or Evil
Are humans inherently good or evil? Wilfred Owen thesis on human nature, in his
poem Dulce Et Decorum Est , is about that humans inhere of the brutality of war
which compose them naturally wicked. In other words, through the author s
experiences during the war, he demonstrates the savagery of war. For instance, in
his second stanza, he develops a background of a tough war, using words as GAS!
Gas! Quick, Boys! referring to a brutal war situation. Wilfred Owen s views relate to
Thomas Hobbes views, because they have the same perspective of humannature,
nevertheless, Hobbes felt that the natural condition of man was similar to being as a
monster. Also, they determine, if you have borne with evilness, you will always be
evil. Wilfred Owen resembles Hobbes because they have the same idea over human
nature; we are related to animals, we have not control over ourselves, such as a beast.

Likewise, they both believe that we are such as animals. For instance, in Hobbes
Leviathan, paragraph six and seven, it demonstrates how men cannot be happy
mutually interacting with other people. Some abuse their great power putting in fear
of others. Other people use that power to disrespect others, creating fear among them.
Hobbes then believes that men have exactly three reasons why start fights. One is to
contend with another one, the other is the lack of respect for each other and certainly
is the lack of understanding with

A Wondering Ideal in Walden Essay
Henry David Thoreau writes of his experiences in his two year experiment of self
reliance on Walden Pond near Concord, Massachusetts. It is my opinion that Thoreau
thought of himself as better than the average person and to an extent better than the
person reading his very work. The allusions and ideals expressed in this work wreak
of a smug and better than though context. The purpose of this experiment was to
enact the philosophies and ideals of self reliance and simplicity. His ideaof simplicity
is strewn throughout this work, ranting through a seemingly indecipherable mixture
of allusions, metaphors, and actual ideas. One that I think is really very important is
the concept of modern improvements (Thoreau 95). During a... Show more content on

Although I do not agree, his reasoning behind it is quite simple. The distance that a
train travels is thirty miles and its fare for this distance is ninety cents, almost a
days wage (96). He says that he can ultimately arrive quicker on foot, than a person
riding this train. He can walk this distance with no cost or debts involved but to ride
this train a person must first work to earn this ninety cents and then take the train,
which then in turn, will sum to be more time consuming than simply walking this
distance. This example is one of many that further reinforce this idea of self reliance
and simplicity.
The chapter titled Where I lived, and What I lived for talks about his search for a
plot of land suitable for his intended purpose, among other things. In my opinion,
his ideas wander through metaphors and references that may have been suited for
different readers with a different knowledge base. In the second page of this
chapter, his whole idea of simplicity is brought up again. He says that, a man is rich
in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone (126). In my
estimation, he simply means that a man is rich, not in terms of tangible wealth, but
in knowledge and self control by what he stand to live without. Thoreau tells us that
his home was located by the shore of a small pond, about a mile and a half south of

Ratification Of Slavery
What is slavery? Slavery is defined as having to sell, your hard labor for very little
and or for others it was restricted freedom. slavery has been going around for many
years. For the most part it began based color. The people back then thought that the
lighter the skin color was the more superior people would see you as. In the other
hand, the darker the skin color was, people were seen as worse than animals, as if
they weren t even humans. For the most part slaverywent away when England made it

I do agree additionally that slavery was justified in the 19th century for the reason that
without the united states having slaves in the 19th century our history would be
different and we wouldn t be here today. In addition, I also feel that citizens back
then didn t know any better. In those times America was growing like a child and it
was innocent, it did not know any better. America had to create mistake so they
could be able to learn from them and to comprehend why not to recreate those
mistakes again. Because we had slavery, Americans had many important events to
follow the abolishment of slavery. Because of slavery the cotton gin was invented,
which needed more slaves to operate the machines. This machine was so popular in
many states, owners needed more plantations and slaves. The machine was also what
started the industrial revolution, and later the civil war, ultimately ending slavery.
With this said the reader can have an idea why the writer believes that slavery was

Fairey used an image he did not own for his personal artwork. This leads to the

For instance: When we are first introduced to Jim in his current age, he is sailing
skillfully over land, with a non diegetic electric guitar playing in the wake of his sail
to accentuate his skillful movements. The guitar leads into a full blown heroic
sounding orchestral piece, halted by a cutscene where we see Jim being essentially
arrested for trespassing. This pairs the electric guitar with Jim further establishing his
rebellious nature, the opposite of what we would expect with the exposition of Jim s
character being a kind, curious, and slightly impatient child. Whenever an electric
guitar is heard after this scene, it is because Jim is doing something reclass but
substantial. The next time we learn about Jim and his background it is to the backing
soundtrack of a song written by The Goo Goo Dolls, an American rock band. With
multiple themes consistently at play, if not for the intervening of spectacularly

A Summary Of Rhetorical Techniques Used In Advertising

Jack Kevorkian and Euthanasia
Euthanasia The thin line between life and death has become an ethical issue many
health care providers and the government have long tried to ignore. The
understanding that life begins at birth, and ends when the heartbeat and breathing
have ceased has long been deemed factual. Medical technologies have changed this
with respirators, artificial defibrillators, and transplants (Macionis, 2009). Thus
medical and legal experts in the United States define death as an irreversible state
involving no response to stimulation, no movement or breathing, no reflexes, and no
indication of brain activity (Macionis, 2009, p. 436). The process of deciding when a

English Should Not Be Universally Spoken
It is known that culture and language is constantly changing. The influences that
can alter a a culture can be naturally blended or forced through invasion. America
was once a nation that was of purely Native descent. Due to famine, mass genocide
from the English colonizers, diseases, and lack of resources, the once prosperous
Native people are almost extinct. I wish to preserve all cultures in their country of
origin, that is what makes a culture thrive and live on through the ages and history
books. This is why I believe with great conviction that English should not be
universally spoken. Firstly, I believe that cultures should be preserved not altered or

Reflective Writing Style
Analyzing one s work is incredible important in order to explore one s style of
writing and to discover certain factors that influence it. When analyzing the work
done throughout this semester, I came to the conclusion that important aspects of my
writing include how my identity and style of writing changes based on my audience,
the different ways I build my ethos and my use of logos, and the importance of
kairos in order to persuade the reader.
Throughout my writing, my identity and my style of language changes based on
the audience I m targeting and the purpose of the assignment. This said, as a writer
I determined who my target audience is for an specific work and then proceeded to
build my argument. In addition, the purpose of the assignment greatly influences my
style of language and my identity. In regards to my tone, I engage my audience in a
way that will invite them to feel receptive to my message. Similarly, my voice
projected an appropriate kind of authority and agency in respect to my audience. As a
result, my identity as a writer would change in order to effectively communicate with
different audiences, as seen in the character, Metamorph, on issue 3 of the textbook,
Understanding Rhetoric 2nd Edition. Different identities were developed based on
the purpose and the intended audience of various work. For example, Project 1
required a rhetorical analysis and synthesis of three sources. My audiences for
Project 1 were the authors of the three sources analyzed.

exactly what oil companies are banking on: out of sight, out of mind (Hart, 24).
Petroleum is a naturally occurring oil found under deep layers of rock ( oil
drilling ). Oil drilling is when a pipe penetrates through these several layers of rock
in order to reach the petroleum oil underneath. This oil can then be purified or
turned into gasoline for energy use. Offshore oil drilling, like its name describes,
is specifically oil drilling on the ocean floor, away from a shore line. Offshore oil
drilling provides one of the most consumed American energy resources, but also
provides a risk to the environment (Crawford et al. 2 7). The United State s... Show

economy, and because it is an easy and efficient source of energy. First, supporters
of continuing offshore oil drilling argue that it creates thousands of jobs, and that
if offshore drilling were to end, the revenue it creates would also come to an end.
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, creation of a gas to liquids industry
resulting in thousands of new domestic jobs and potentially billions of dollars in
new investments (Crawford et al. 20). Offshore oil drilling incorporates a wide
variety of employees ranging from business management teams to the workers on
the rig. If offshore oil drilling were to come to a stop, thousands of people would
lose their jobs, and raise the unemployment rate in America. Furthermore, the profit
and revenue offshore oil drilling creates would come to an end. For example, tax
returns, income to land and mineral owners, and access to domestic resources
would all stop. (Crawford et al. 69). With so much dependence on the revenue
offshore oil drilling brings in, a stop to the offshore drilling would leave citizens,
dependent on these resources and incomes, left to look for new jobs and new
sources of income. Secondly, the opposition makes the argument that offshore oil
drilling is a crucial part of the U.S. economy, and many Americans are dependent on
the oil and gas generated from it. To start,
Pursuing Love In A Midsummer Night s Dream
A Midsummer Night s Dream supports the idea that pursuing love can take over the
person s action. In the play there were four characters in a love triangle, where the
actions that seemed irrational were presented out of them. The character who best
represents the idea that love can blind people to their actions is Helena. She seemed
very desperate for him in the play by chasing him around. Helena showed that, loveis
blind when she told a secret to Demetrius, when she chased him around and by the
way she speaks to him.
A Midsummer Night s Dream, Helena is a rich young lady who is in love with a
young man named Demetrius. She loves him more than anything and all that matters
to her is his love. Although Helena loves Demetrius, he loves someone
Mary Queen Of Scots Research Paper
With three failed kingdoms and three failed marriages, Mary, Queen of Scots not
only wanted to be the Queen of Scots, but as well as the Queen of England. To have
control of her life. With all the knowledge that Mary possessed, Queen Elizabeth felt
threatened and had Mary arrested for treason, because of her not so welcomed
religious views.
Back in the 16th century, there was a lot of controversy between the Catholics and
Protestants. It wasn t until 1570 where Catholicism was defined. Mary, being
Catholic, was not accepted in the protestant country she moved to, France. In 1561,
Mary, Queen of Scots, angered the all of the Protestant Reformation. The Protestant
Kirk, which had been established in defiance of royal authority, became subjected to
the Catholic monarch. For most ministers, Mary was a great threat to the Protestants.
Mary was involved, but not entirely, with religion. (BBC News, Mary, Queen of
Scots, 1) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Knowing this, Mary quickly went along with their plan. She never saw her cousin
as a queen. She believed she was a joke to the England throne. Mary s mind was set
on how she fit the part far greater than the current queen. The relationship between
the two have never been good, so this only fueled even more tension. After the death
of her husband, Francis, Mary returned to Scotland, since she was not welcomed in
France. With her return, Mary was gravely disappointed in the Scotland; she
compared her native land to France. (MARY, QUEEN OF SCOTS,
Benefits Of Retirement Planning For Retirement
Retirement planning is essential for the future well being of retirees. Gaining
knowledge and perspective on the process will be beneficial. A lack of preparedness
may stem from the overwhelming amount of variables affecting and contributing to
retirement planning. The following literature reviews provide awareness on planning
for retirement. In an article by Burke Goldman (2015), three strategies are presented to
adopt and implement proven features and solutions. First, automatic plan features
promote enrollment and escalation to produce better outcomes. Behavioral
economics contributes to the effectiveness. Examples includes hyperbolic
discounting, heavily discounting the importance of futurebenefits in favor of
immediate action, and loss aversion, motivated by avoiding loss than achieving gains.
The second strategy involves instituting the 4 M s, milestones, measurement,
monitoring and management. In order to reach the goal retirement age and income, the
future retiree needs to recognize how much is required to save each year. The funding
goals are measured to determine if the individual needs to change course or pick up
the pace. Monitoring and management occur throughout the process. Third,
connecting the dots attempts to overcome the challenges associated with account
balances and future income. For a secure retirement, understanding options promotes
the ability to achieve better outcomes. To assist in achieving retirement goals,

Community: Riverdale Riverdale is an upscale community in the Northwestern
corner of the Bronx bordered by the Hudson River, Broadway, the Bronx

Because of the temporary nature of construction work, it is safe to assume that it
would not disturb the entire community. Economically, Riverdale seems to be an
affluent community. The assets to the neighborhood would be the private schools,
colleges, banks and various religious centers. As for liabilities, none was present on
our tour of the neighborhood. There aren t much large chain stores like K Mart or
Old Navy in Riverdale and the only ones we saw were CVS and Eckerd. There aren
t any fast food chain restaurants like McDonalds, Burger King, White Castle, etc.
The shopping area is composed of ice cream parlors, art galleries, wine stores, pet
shops, flower shops, Korean stores for your Caribbean products, jewelry stores,
pizza shops, pharmacies, gift shops, etc. We saw just 2 laundromats in the area. It
can be assumed that residents here do their own laundry at their homes. We also
saw a few dry cleaners on the main road. For recreation, Riverdale residents don t
have much of a variety of activities. Nearby Riverdale is Van Courtlandt Park.
Located here is a Riverdale Equestrian Centre where people can go horseback
riding. There are parks in the area such as Spuyten Duyvil Playground and Riverdale
Playground but in general, there are no recreational centers. Similar to recreational
centers, there wasn t a large number of clubs or associations. The only thing that
would count as a club was a fitness center for women. The dominant religion

Subject: Progress Report on Purchasing New Toaster for a Restaurant Purpose The
preliminary objective of this report is to inform about the progress of the research on
the purchase of a new toaster for the restaurant. Summary I have browsed the market
of the toasters and compared three models. Moreover, I have determined the toasters
evaluation criteria, based on the restaurant s needs and requirements. According to the
defined criteria of evaluation, I have assessed the chosen three models of toasters and
checked their suitability for the restaurant s needs. Currently, I continue to work over
the research and comparison of the toaster models. The preliminary defined budget
does not call for any changes or additions. Introduction On October 16, I achieved the
approval to conduct the research on the purchase of a new toaster for the restaurant. A

Then, I will discuss the future work, which includes the reflections on Task 4.
Completed Work Task 1: Identify 3 potential models of toasters. I have looked for
the different models of toasters on the specialized websites and on line stores to be
able to compare their characteristics and properties. Currently, I suppose that the
choice should be made between the following three models, which are Hatco TPT
208 4 Slice Commercial Toaster, Hatco TPT 120 4 Toaster and Hatco TPT 240 4
Slice Commercial Toaster. Task 2: Establish toasters evaluation criteria, based on the
restaurant s needs and demands. I have limited the research to three models,
considering the allowed budget and price of toasters. Thus, the purchase of any of
those three chosen models will not exceed the defined budget. Furthermore, I have
determined the evaluation criteria, which assist in assessing the toasters suitability
for the restaurant s needs. The evaluation criteria are listed

Organizational Resilience Essay
Background
Modern day organizations have to constantly change to meet the demands of
customers. Workers have to change with the organizations to be able to perform new
functions and complete new sophisticated tasks.
Not only the type of the work employees are required to do changes, place, method,
and environment of the work is also subject to transformation. With high turnover
being common characteristic among modern organizations, people have to work in
teams each time composed of different people.
Mallak (1998) noticed that employees working in the sales and supplies department
are even greater exposed to external changes as they have to work with many
different people.

Being resilient means being able to act adequately in demanding situations, avoid
unwanted developments during the course of working day, and make the most of
opportunities in spite of all the turmoil associated with the organizational change.
Organizations have to design and implement effective programs of resilience to ensure
their own survival (Mallak, 1998). Resilient organizations are the organizations that
maintain their profitability even when going through major transformation. This is
due to the fact that its employees do not need much time to adapt to new realities or
to recover from stress associated with the change.
Defining Resilience
Resilience translates from Latin as to leap back and can be defined as the ability to
recover from or easily adjust to misfortune or change (Russell Consulting, Inc., 2007).
Lee (2008) writes that resilience refers to a person s capacity to handle difficulties,
demands, and high pressure without becoming stressed.
Lee divides the notion of resilience into four separate facets :
1.The ability to not sweat the small stuff Resilient workers maintain their good cheer
despite all the small frustrations accompanying the employees through their working
day (Lee, 2008).
2.Ability to perform under high pressure Resilient workers cannot be overwhelmed
by minor difficulties at work place, neither pressure exercised upon them can

Comparison Of Blake s Songs Of Innocence And Songs Of...
When regarding the different options I had in comparing two of the works we
have already read this semester, my mind automatically went to William Blake s
Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience. Blake s examination of the duality of
a single subject s nature lends itself perfectly to a close reading such as this. When
looking at the different options available to me in Blake s volumes, Holy
Thursday (both the Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience versions)
demonstrated this duality clearly. The subject in Holy Thursday stays the same,
however, the nature of the subject is drastically different in each poem. In both
Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience, the poem titled Holy Thursday
occurs on Holy Thursday. This was a special service at St. Paul s Cathedral in
London, which was held on the first Thursday in May. The tradition started in 1782,
and this special service was held for the poorest children in London. These children
would be brought to the church by their parish officers, serving approximately six
thousand children. Both poems focus on this procession of children to the cathedral,
describing the state of the children and the varying attitudes towards the event itself.
These varying attitudes are what divides these poems that are so similar in content
to two drastically different creations. In Songs of Innocence, Holy Thursday opens
with a picture of a bright, cheery, and exciting event. Blake chooses crisp and clear
language to describe the

Out of Control On May 9, 1960, the Food and Drug Administration announced that
it would approve the first pill, Enovid, used to control conception in women. For
the first time in human history, women finally had control over their reproductive
system. A woman could delay getting pregnant to finish school or to start a career.
These simple pills lead to a woman s revolution in the home and in the workforce.
This pill also came with a backlash from conservative groups, who felt that only
God should control whether a woman became pregnant or not. More than fifty years
later, the debate over the pills rages on. States, like Texas, have been actively
working to limit woman s access to birth control by defunding Planned Parenthood,
an organization that provides birth control to the poor. If America wants to see the
true outcome of limiting the choices to women, we only have to look at countries that
actively banned or limited access to birth control. When women are not allowed to

Locus Of Control Research Paper
Locus of Control A person determines his/her expectancies from many different
factors. Luck, fate, hard work and determination are all common influences in a
person s expectancy. In 1954 a psychologist named Julian Rotter began his study on
expectancy. Expectancy is, as defined in Psychology and Life: The extent to which
people believe their behaviors in particular situations will bring about rewards
(Gerrig 370). By 1966 Rotter had designed the locus of control. The locus of control
is a questionnaire containing 13 questions that measures how a person views the
causing factors of a reward/achievement, as an internal influence or an external
influence. Therefore, the test results are based on an internal external scale. For

Women s Reproductive Rights 1800s
Women across the U.S. were fighting for reproductive rights. The fight was intense
due to women not being able to do decisions for themselves. Since the beginning of
civilization, women were expected to produce children from marriage to
menopause, in a constant battle to birth more children than died in utero, in infancy,
or of childhood disease. The birth and mortality rates were so high that women had
to have a stop to it. American white women were considered to be the ones having
the most children. In 1800 American women were bearing an average of 7.04
children; 5.21 in 1860; and 3.56 in 1900. During this time the rates were so high

given a post test to see their growth from the pre test.(50)
Results
The scores revealed a couple different things. First the pre test scores were
compared to ensure that both classes started at the same level. (50). The pre tests
were compared by each of the three sections: multiple choice, labeling and overall
scores.(50) Group one or the control group s starting score for labeling was 2.96

had a 7.82 and the app group had a 8.27. (50) The scores are not significantly
different from each other; therefore, it shows that the two groups started at an equal
level.
Next, all three sections of the post test for the app users was compared to their pre
test scores. (50) In the labeling section, the post test score was 5.84 which means it
increased significantly from the before score of 3.73. (50) The multiple choice
section also had a significant increase from 4.52 to a 5.64.(50) Because both
sections had a significant increase, so did the overall score. It went from 8.27 to

Search For Identity In Surfacing, By Margaret Atwood
In this situation the question of an authentic Canadian voice has troubled many
Canadian writers. At the same time the regional consciousness in Canada began to
give rise to a national consciousness which further broadened into an international or
universal consciousness. This awakened conscience led to the writers showing a
preoccupation with quest themes, search for identityand selfdefinition which turned
out to be search for inner space. This phenomenon appears in the fiction of Margaret
Atwood.
Conversely, in the canon of postcolonial writers, Atwood is a troublesome figure.

The major theme of the novel Search for identity , like national identity, identity of
selfhood and identity of womanhood, for the protagonist has become difficult
because of her role as a victim of colonial forces. She has been colonized by men in
the patriarchal society in which she grew up. Initially, the narrator of the story
returns to the undeveloped island that she grew up on to search for her missing
father in that process she unmasks the inconsistencies in both her personal life and
her patriarchal society. The unnamed narrator of Surfacing comes back to her home
in Northern Quebec after a gap of nine years in search of her father, who is reported
missing mysteriously. The protagonist is working as a commercial artist. The reason
for the deliberate separation from her parents is that the narrator was in love with her
teacher, who exploited her innocence. Against her wishes, he got the pregnancy
terminated. Unable to cope with this painful reality she gave her parents a different
version. She wrote a postcard and informed them that she was married, had a child

  • 2. Watching And Waiting Short Story Essay When receding into the memories of childhood, many think of the famous Disney movies that have captured audience s imaginations for decades. Many of these films contain deeper hidden meanings in an attempt to teach young viewers a life lesson. These life lessons can be compared to pieces of literature such as the short story, Watching and Waiting . Examples such as The Little Mermaid, Monsters Inc, Lilo and Stitch contain the messages of not taking things for granted, jumping to conclusions, and family is not defined by blood, but by love. Life is a wonderful gift, which should never be taken for granted. This is not the case for the short story, Watching and Waiting , and famous Disney film The Little Mermaid , as they both take items... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He believes that because of their age difference she would be disloyal to him however, this turns out to be false, and would eventually lead to him being shot. The film, Monsters Inc can also be compared to the short story, because Mike and Sully are initially terrified of Boo, which is shown in the first scene where they meet Boo. They are terrified of the young, human, girl at first, but eventually grew to like her and become friends with the young girl. Jumping to conclusions can be extremely dangerous as it leads to Thomas getting shot, and Mike and Sully almost miss out on a new friend. Family is the strongest bond there is in the world. Family is not bound by blood but bound by the love people share with each other. In Watching and Waiting , the Hillard family is being torn apart by the lack of love and communication. Quote. Mrs. Hillard feels as if she is no longer a part of Thomas s family because, Mr.Hillard has been too busy keeping her away from the rest of civilization to give her the love and attention she needs. Similar to the family in Watching and Waiting the family in Lilo and Stitch are also bound by something stronger than blood. Lilo finds a new member of her family in the strangest being. A small blue alien named Stitch burrows his way into her life, and even though they were not born into family, their bond is just as strong. In both the film and the text, family is shown to be a very important driving force. In the film, Lilo and
  • 3. Comparing The Alien And Forgotten Planet By Doug Delanty From the moment they are born, children are wondering about their world. Parents often enjoy watching their children grow up and reflect upon what they discovered and what they have yet to discover. In The Alien , Greg Delanty is describing expecting parents questions while awaiting a child. Similarly, in Forgotten Planet , Doug Dorph describes children s imaginationand compares it to adulthood. The parents in these poems are able to rely upon space or visualize it as to having an important role in the life of a child. Both The Alien by Greg Delanty and Forgotten Planet by Doug Dorph use a motif of space as parents search to understand children; however, the parentfigures in the poems view space in different ways. In The Alien , Delanty explains the anxious feeling that parents have before having a baby and uses the motif of space to try to explain how parents try to answer some of the questions they have. As the experience of having a child is new to these parents, they use a metaphor to compare their child to an alien and a martian (Delanty 9, 11). This demonstrates that they are anxious because they neither know how the child will behave nor how to cooperate with the new child. They also have other questions about their coming child, expressed when Delanty writes, we re anxious/ to make contact, to ask divers questions/ about the heavendom you hail from, to discuss/ the whole shebang of the beginning end,/ the pre big bang untime before you forget the why
  • 4. Cochlear Implant Essay Introduction: Robotics and biomechanics have been around since 600 BC. They have impacted people lives significantly in good and bad ways. Hearing aids have been around since 100 A.D and have helped many people be able to hear much clearer for a long period of time. Another fantastic thing that has been invented are cochlear implants that have been around a lot less than hearing aids as they have only been around since October of 1982. I chose to design a new device that replaces an existing human body part as if that part had been lost. I am designing a device similar to a cochlear implant, however it would be a small piece behind your earso that it can go unnoticed in daily life. I chose this design as I know someone in my life with a hearing problem. They get teased when they mishear something and often say the wrong thing. If a person get a real cochlear implant some of them think that people would look at them differently. Cochlear implants are different to normal hearing aid because the cochlear implant allow people that are deaf the hear.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first cochlear implant was in October 1982, Melbourne man Graham Carrick. The implant was implanted into his cochlear and then was switched on and in 15 minutes later her could hear for the first time in 17 years. Since that day 200,000 people have had that same experience, that is why I wanted to do a cochlear implant. My upgraded cochlear implant it the same as the normal one it is just less visitable, so the people that are wearing feel more comfortable. This project grew out of the Professor Clarks research at the University of Melbourne during the 1970s, when he became the head of the University s Department of
  • 5. Treasury and Liberals Social Poilicies Many senior officials at the Treasury regarded the rising defence estimates and the Liberals social policies as dangerous because they required a constantly rising level of expenditure. It soon became clear, however, that such approach was not appropriate. The outcome of the war became fully dependent on state action and not merely on the economy. It was of a crucial importance for the Cabinet to step in, allocate manpower, and organize the industry so as to avoid an inefficient use of resources (capital and people). Hence, Lloyd George stepped in and decided to initiate Reconstruction by restructuring the Cabinet and introducing various Committees, Ministries, and Commissions which were to assume extended powers and responsibilities within the private sphere of civil activities. It was, however, unclear whether this change in faith would pertain over the post war period as well. Furthermore, the aftermath of the war was not a pleasant sight for any politician taking office at the time. The situation awaiting Lloyd George, who had already been assuming the role of a Prime Minister during the war, had been even more damaging partially due to his party s increasingly severe internal struggles which began with the social reforms of 1906. Even before the climax of the war, it became apparent that the Liberal Party was most likely unable to restore its significance or even secure its survival in the post war government. Liberals led by Lloyd George became increasingly

  • 8. Stereotypes In Poussey Washington s Orange Is The New Black Poussey Washington was one of the central characters in Orange is the New Black until her tragic death in season four of the series. The portrayal of her character in the series is particularly interesting when looking at her identity through an intersectional lens. Poussey is an African American, openly gay woman. This recognized identity evidences that, overall, Orange is the New Blackis one of the more diverse and progressive shows currently being produced considering there aren t many popular shows with a principal black lesbian character. Poussey is arguably an audience favorite considering the immense backlash received when her character was murdered in the series. Disregarding the fact that she is in jail, her character goes against stereotypes of the way black women are oftentimes portrayed in media. In John Cones Patterns of Bias in Hollywood he states, Of course, Hollywood has a long history of portraying African Americans in a negative or stereotypical manner, pre dating World War II (232). Still the lingering effects of these biases still remain in countless Hollywood productions by portraying black women as angry, uneducated, loud, vindictive, petty, victims of domestic abuse, lacking father figures and endless other negative stereotypes. However, Poussey Washington diverges from these stereotypes. Poussey is shown as intelligent. She works in the library of the penitentiary with her head always in a book. She is clearly educated as she is show speaking

Since I am only sixteen, there is still tons of growing up to do and plenty of room for error and mistakes. At least we have a good support system! The Learning Theories Of English Language Education This qualitative study is designed to answer the following primary question: What are the learning theories of English language education that are used in the Palestinian Refugee Camps in Jordan and Israel? This question will branch into the following three secondary questions: 1 What are the sociocultural and socio economic, gender, literacy, political conflict, religion, race, political stability, religion, sexual identity aspects and their influence in English language education in an extra ordinary and a challenging learning environment? 2 What are the strategies used to deal with refugee students limited English language literacy with relevance to previous leanings and prior experiences that influence their current English language acquisition? 3 What is the contextual and relational nature of the students identity in the refugees schools? However, a normal distribution can be used to describe many variables, because the deviations from a normal distribution are very small. This concept will be explained further in Section 6 1. When the data values are evenly distributed about the mean, a distribution is said to be a symmetric distribution. (A normal distribution is symmetric.) Figure 6 2(a) shows a symmetric distribution. When the majority of the data values fall to the left or right of the mean, the distribution is said to be skewed. When the majority of the data values fall to the right of the mean, the distribution is said to be a negatively or left skewed distribution. The mean is to the left of the median, and the mean and the median are to the left of the mode. See Figure 6 2(b). Parliamentary Protests Of The United States The threat presented by extra parliamentary protest in the years 1815 20 was plagued by weak and divided leadership which limited it from driving results that met its full potential. However, there were also other factors that served to undermine progress such as the actions of the government in repressing dissenters and the low level of available logistical resources . Evan tells us in Source 3 that the movement lacked coherent leadership. His view supports the argument for the threat being undermined by the weakness of having too many orators captivated by the sound of their own voices of whom not enough bridged the gap between rhetoric and reality. Being unable to convey the actions people would be required to take for change within their messages reduced the movement almost to a talking shop of radical leaders, carried away without realistic planning . We can see the fruits of their failed labours in the way the government had little difficulty in handling any protests and this repeated derailing meant there was rarely a leadership united enough to effectively inspire confidence. On the other hand, Thompson deems radicalism to have assumed more conscious, organised and sophisticated forms , going so far as to call it a heroic age , which somewhat refutes the criticisms of inadequacy in the power of the speeches made. Indeed, the reality that in addition to Norwich and Sheffield: Nottingham, Coventry and Bolton were also assessed by the authorities as being

Raised by an entomologist, her fondness of nature most was likely extended to her from her father through means of family trips to the isolated safe havens of Quebec and Ontario. These locations were the subject of her father s study and research ( Atwood, Margaret. British, Irish, and Commonwealth Poets). From the year 1957 to 1961 she worked on her undergraduate degree in English at Victoria college at the University of Toronto. The kingdoms of France, Russia and Brandenburg Prussia are ample evidence to prove that absolutism worked and was a commonality compared to constitutionalism. This issue then falls to whether the differences or the similarities of these kingdoms are more important in European and World History. The following will provide an argument to support that the similarities of the kingdoms should be more heavily stressed. France was set up for absolute monarchy by King Henry IV. Henry s ambitions neutralized the clash between Catholics and Protestants, in the Edict of Nantes. Before Henry s assassination, he had created a financial surplus in the kingdom. Next in line for the throne was Louis XIII, Henry s son, but he was too young to rule, so Cardinal Richelieu had control over the kingdom. He limited the political privileges of the Huguenots and involved France in the Thirty Years War, and by doing this he affirmed the royal power and engaged France more in European affairs. After Richelieu s death, Louis XIII died and, his son, Louis XIV, who was five years old, inherited the throne. When Louis turned 23 he stepped forward to claim the throne, believing that God had given him the position of King of France. The Sun King, as Louis was called, surrounded himself with the nobles to keep them from governing their districts as effectively and thus empowering himself.

Bruni explains that colleges are trying to enhance their campus. The college fails to get these diverse groups to go outside their comfort zone and intermingle. There are places where these groups can go to feel comfortable like housing environments, groups, fraternities, and clubs. However, they fail to go outside these groups. The colleges should help make it possible for these different diverse groups to interact, socialize, and drive cohesion. This will help collegestudents integrate better into real world diverse environments. Even if the colleges are achieving their goals to get a diverse student body to the campuses, they fail to get those groups to interact. In the article The Lie About College Diversity, Bruni s interpretation on diversity explains that common college diversity programs are categorizing students together with similar backgrounds. Only a number of programs accept students to interact with fellow diversity students with different cultures, backgrounds or ethnic groups. These programs do not motivate students to reach out and share their thoughts with other groups because they could get rejected. By learning other points of view and having diversity in the learning environment, it also helps individuals communicate better. The Great Gatsby is a novel that, superficially, seems like the tragic story of infatuation and misunderstanding. However, set in 1920s America, it can be read in a number of different ways. This post war period was a time of economic boom and rapid change in technological advances led to fashionable, more affluent and carefree lives. Alcohol was banned as a direct response to hedonism of the time but ironically it encouraged corruption and a black market. The speed of change and modernity was both exciting and overwhelming. • 31. A Wondering Ideal in Walden Essay Henry David Thoreau writes of his experiences in his two year experiment of self reliance on Walden Pond near Concord, Massachusetts. It is my opinion that Thoreau thought of himself as better than the average person and to an extent better than the person reading his very work. The allusions and ideals expressed in this work wreak of a smug and better than though context. The purpose of this experiment was to enact the philosophies and ideals of self reliance and simplicity. His ideaof simplicity is strewn throughout this work, ranting through a seemingly indecipherable mixture of allusions, metaphors, and actual ideas. Although I do not agree, his reasoning behind it is quite simple. The distance that a train travels is thirty miles and its fare for this distance is ninety cents, almost a days wage (96). He says that he can ultimately arrive quicker on foot, than a person riding this train. He can walk this distance with no cost or debts involved but to ride this train a person must first work to earn this ninety cents and then take the train, which then in turn, will sum to be more time consuming than simply walking this distance. This example is one of many that further reinforce this idea of self reliance and simplicity. The chapter titled Where I lived, and What I lived for talks about his search for a plot of land suitable for his intended purpose, among other things. In my opinion, his ideas wander through metaphors and references that may have been suited for different readers with a different knowledge base. In the second page of this chapter, his whole idea of simplicity is brought up again. He says that, a man is rich in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone (126). In my estimation, he simply means that a man is rich, not in terms of tangible wealth, but in knowledge and self control by what he stand to live without. Thoreau tells us that his home was located by the shore of a small pond, about a mile and a half south of the village of Concord

This pairs the electric guitar with Jim further establishing his rebellious nature, the opposite of what we would expect with the exposition of Jim s character being a kind, curious, and slightly impatient child. Whenever an electric guitar is heard after this scene, it is because Jim is doing something reclass but substantial. How To Write An Out Of Control Argumentative Essay Tabitha Parker English Research Argument Essay December 6, 2016 Out of Control On May 9, 1960, the Food and Drug Administration announced that it would approve the first pill, Enovid, used to control conception in women. For the first time in human history, women finally had control over their reproductive system. A woman could delay getting pregnant to finish school or to start a career.
