Song Of Solomon Short Story
The sun had long since receded pasted the hills and the moon, tried as it might, could not poke through
the thick storm clouds. But that did not stop these men from congregating, not the powerful winds, the
beating rain, nor the sky splitting lightening. Their cathedral was calling to them, the old run down
barn in the middle of an abandoned field. From the barn just under the drumming rain, you could hear
the stomping of feet. Just under the howling winds, an orchestra of screams, choruses of curses ring.
And just under the crashing of thunder, the sounds of bone meeting flesh beats. The pit sits in the barn,
the pit is where the shouts, cries and curses are being flung, and the pit is where the champ mud
covered, stands toe to toe with another would be challenger. Men of all ages encircle the pit; the older
ones pointing out differences in the strengths and weaknesses of the fighters. While the young bost

Ap Euro Chapter 9 Questions And Answers
Part I Questions
1.) The three calamities in Chapter 9 are the Hundred Years War, the Black Death, and the Great
Schism. The Hundred Years War, from 1337 to 1453, began when the English king Edward III
believed he was the true heir to the French throne. In addition, England owned territories in France,
which the French disliked. Furthermore, England and France both wanted possession of Flanders, a
French fief dependent on England. At first the English had the upper hand and even had a English king
on the French throne, courtesy of the Treaty of Troyes. However, the tides turned when Joan of Arc
was able to retrieve Orléans and rose French spirits to win a series of victories. The bubonic plague,

Lollards: Lollards were members of a religious movement and followed the writings of John Wycliffe.

many were either of nobility or lower clergy and the poor.
Conciliar Theory: The Conciliar Theory was the idea of making a church where a council could

the church well and united.
Black Death: The Black Death, also known as bubonic plague, was introduced to Europe overseas by

The Medicinal Properties Of Aloe Vera
Introduction
Aloe vera is one of the endemic plants found in southern Iran and had been utilized in Persian
medicine practices for over 2,500 years (Avijgan, 2016). Aloe vera has also played an important role
in clinical research (Marharjan and Nampoothiri, 2015). It is a succulent, cactus like plant which
belongs to the Aloe cease family which contains more than 400 Aloe vera species (Vangipuram et al.,
2016). Aloe barbadensis Miller (Asphodelaceae) and Aloe aborescens are the more extensively known
species to use for cosmetic, medicinal, and pharmaceutical purposes (Grindlay and Reynolds, 1986).
Aloe vera consists of 75 different ingredients: enzymes, minerals, sugars, sterols, amino acids, and
salicylic acid, just to name a few (Gottlieb, 1980). The leaves of Aloe vera contain 0.0013% protein
and 99.5% water (Reynolds and Dweck, 1999). These features have made Aloe vera known for its
medicinal assets which lead to its use in pharmacological actions like antibacterial, antifungal, anti
inflammatory, antioxidant, antitumor, and immune boosting (Nair, 2016). Studies have also shown anti
microbial potential against Streptococcus pyrogenes, Streptococcus faecalis, and other infectious
diseases caused by bacteria (Heggers et al., 1979). Therefore, it has been used traditionally as
nutritional drinks, vitamins, moisturizers, healing agent in cosmetics, diabetic patients, sun burn,
wounds and digestive tract disorders with no adverse effects (Yagi, 2002; and Im, 2010). With the

A New Methodology For Fingerprints
A New Methodology for Fingerprints The article I chose to research for my final capstone project was
an article that was published by the Forensic Science International and was written by Helio Barros
and Valter Stefani. The title of this article is A New Methodology for the Visualization of Latent
Fingermarks on the Sticky Side of Adhesive Tapes Using Novel Fluorescent Dyes . A little bit of
abstract about what the paper and the experiments are about is that there are three novel fluorescent
dyes that were tested in numerous experiments for the detection of latent fingerprints. These dyes were
tested on different types of adhesive tapes that varied in color. These dyes that were used are highly
selective to fingerprints, do not need any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A method that is used today for the visualization of latent fingerprints is a process of applying a dye
called Crystal Violet. Crystal Violet reacts with the fatty acids and lipids in your sweat and as a result
it produces a purple color. Although this process is used in the forensic science field today, it has its
limitations. The intense purple color of the dye sometimes results in the entire tape being stained and
as a result the entire fingerprint is ruined and can t be analyzed. The people in this article wanted to
find a better solution for the visualization of latent fingerprints that performed better than the methods
that we currently use today. This is where the introduction of the new dyes comes into the article. The
fluorescent dyes that are reported in this article can overcome the limitations that we currently have
with Crystal Violet and other commercial dyes. The Fluorescent dyes that were used in the study in the
article are named HB 7, HB 9, and HB 11. All of these dyes were synthesized and purified in a
laboratory and are currently patent pending. All the dyes used in this experiment are water soluble and
fluorescent in the blue green region when exposed to ultra violet light at 365nm. Alongside the dyes
that were used in this study, four different types of adhesive tapes were also used ranging from
different colors. Tape ID A that was used was Scotch Tape that was

How Does Liesel Use Irony In The Book Thief
When one thinks of a thief, they think of sneaky men in black masks trying to steal a precious jewel.
However, in The Book Thief the thief is in fact not a man in a black mask but a girl. The definition of
a thief is someone who steals items of important value resulting in negative consequences for the
victim. Instead, in the novel, when the main character, Liesel, steals books, they have a positive effect
on the people that she stole it from and even the people she comes in contact with. This is why it is
ironic that the title of the novel is The Book Thief , because Liesel in a way isn t really a thief.
Throughout the book there are multiple signs that point to the fact that even though Liesel steals
several books, she ameliorates the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Liesel from now on starts stealing books; but is she really stealing them? Throughout the book, Death
says that Liesel is stealing these books, but when examined closely, it seems as if some of the books
she stole weren t really stolen, but rather given to her in an indirect way. During Liesel s first days as a
Hubermann, she gets to meet Ilsa Hermann, the cold and distant wife of the mayor, who at this point
in the book, appears to be another lazy privileged client of Rosa Hubermann, the hardworking,
underprivileged service provider. However, as the book progresses the importance of Ilsa Hermann
increases because of something she possesses. Books. Ilsa Hermann has a lot of them, so much that it
attracted one girl. Liesel Hubermann. The skinny and orphaned girl who has an obsession for these
bundles filled with words, that speak to her in different ways. Some of these words are evocative;
other words are didactic, teaching Liesel many lessons on how to cope with life. To Liesel, books are
as valuable as a diamond is to a thief. For example, when Liesel and Ilsa meet for the second time, Ilsa
invites Liesel into her mausoleum of a house. What Liesel saw next would have impressed any
bibliophile: rows and rows, stacks and stacks full of one thing. Books. Like a child entering his first
candy store, was Liesel when she entered her first library. Going through her head was probably this

The reason for Trade promotions is to help organizations distinguish between products, expand
product exposure and expansion of the item purchase amount.
Push money is an additional commission paid to empower the stocking and offering of a product, in
my opinion, this has become the most popular sales promotion. At our organization, we received
incentives from several of our partner companies. Our fry shortening for instance, once we are done

How Did David Walker Impact On African American Literature
Throughout time we see African American literature go through it rigorous period of troubled times. It
was not often that African American poets or writers came together to share their identical thoughts.
But, this may have come from some being born in different time periods, or it may have come from
the location that many had to reside in to not be persecuted or damned from society. Although these
writers may have never co existed amongst one another, their writings shared the same ideas. America
needed to offer freedom and equality for blacks across the country, and to be given anything of less
standard was deemed unacceptable.
The Antebellum period of American literature included slave narrators such as Douglass, Brown, and
Jacobs, who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Role Of Gender And Gender Inequality In Ancient Greece
From ancient times the woman was perceived and acknowledged as inferior to men. The female
element in ancient Greece was a significant part of the procreation and a form of entertainment. For
example, the hierarchical character of Aristotle has played an significant role in reducing the women s
value and role in society. The intended purpose of the female gender was to be a keeper, to clean and
cook while the male was the provider with less emotions. However, this socially structured vision is
strongly based on gendered appearance without questioning the confines of the self expansion and
individuality.
Performing gender has been habitually implemented on daily basis perhaps until the first feminist
movement in the 1800s which lead society to question gender inequality and androcentrism.
Furthermore, identity has been ingrained in the royal family through performed gender and iteration of
act serves to perpetually reproduce. But is gender only a narrative which fortify expectations and
stereotypes of what means to be a male or female?
The princess of Wales, Diana Spencer is a quintessential example of the blending genders in modern
society and brought a new life to the Monarchy.
She has made a significant change in our perception and her character contained every attribute that a
role model should exhibit.
Coming from an aristocratic family with initially a country girl like style, her identity transformed into
a sophisticated, honoured princess and beloved mother. With grace and style, Diana changed the 19th
century anachronism of the British Monarchy to the attainable modern institution that it is today. She
was a representation of a supremely regal woman who stood by her husband s side hence,
independently continued to establish her identity alone after their divorce.
On daily basis, she had numerous roles and activities starting from a loving mother, inspiration to the
world, organizer of charities and many other royal duties. The Princess of Wales was not a puppet of
the Royal family, she had a determined personality to make a change for a better world. Her
compassion and hope played a core role in illustrating her social and political eminence.
In a way, she used the press to shape her own image

All Time Bulls. Every basketball fan on social media has shared their thoughts on this matchup of All

each other via Instagram. All Time Bulls Team that ll consist of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen
taking on a Lakers team that s stacked with nothing but Hall of Famers, is an intriguing discussion but
is it really a huge debate? If the two teams were to meet in let s say a seven game series, would it even

I mean you ll have Magic, who is a pass first point guard, dishing out to the likes of Kobe, Shaq, West,
and Kareem on top of keeping defenders on their heels. Bulls would have to really figure out how to
slow that down and I don t think Rose is the guy to really do that. I do believe the Bulls have an
advantage at the Small Forward and Shooting Guard position. Yes Laker fans I would have to give the
edge to Pippen over Jerry West seeing Scottie was a lot more athletic and was pretty good defensive
player, while Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are about equal. They re very identical when you look
at them on film but I give the slightest of slight edge to Jordan on this one. The huge disadvantage
comes in the post where you have Kareem and Shaq for the Lakers and Horace Grant and Dennis
Rodman for the Bulls. Now offensively realistically the Lakers would have an issue because A: Both
Kareem and Shaq are centers and B: Both will clog up likely clog up the post, but even with that
Kareem and Shaq too much for Grant and Rodman. Rodman would do whatever to grab rebounds and
was a pretty good defensive player while Grant was a solid starter on some pretty good teams but
when you re talking Kareem and Shaq, that s a tall task for the two offensively and defensively. The
bench is also a huge advantage for the Lakers where it s

The Winding Stair And Other Poems
As Professor Pethica points out, the volume The Winding Stair and Other Poems is extraordinary
because its textual history is particularly elaborate, even by Yeats s standards. Although I would love
to explore the relationship between different editions, as we did when we talked about different
editions of Wilde Swans at Coole, the task is too huge to be tackled sufficiently in this paper. In order
to preclude any ambiguity, I would like to clarify that whenever I use the title The Winding Stair and
Other Poems in this paper, unless otherwise specified, I am referring to the last edition published in
1933. Since the early stage of Yeats s career, the poet has been concerned with mortality. The poet
seems to suggest that art is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Losing all touch with the finer consciousness of the age it would be, not only irresponsible, but anemic
(Foster, 441). In the poem Three movements, the poet observes that Shakespearean fish swam the sea,
far away from land; / Romantic fish swam in nets coming to the hand; / What are all those fish that lie
gasping on the strand? (Finneran, 240) Yeats is neither detached Shakespearean fish, nor credulous
Romantic fish; he is the fish that lie gasping on the strand, and the volume The Winding Stair and
Other Poems is his struggle with the crisis of his age, both the age of the poet (nearly 70 at the time)
and the age of the world (1930s). We have talked a lot about Yeats s dialectical effort to transcend
mortality and achieve immortality in his poetry. Such effort to transcend mortality presupposes the
dichotomy between life and death. Indeed, in previous volumes, may concepts are contingent upon a
symmetrically opposing idea: the symbol of the Mask presupposes the dichotomy between self and
anti self, and many of Yeats s poems feature the dichotomy between female and male. However, in the
volume The Winding Stair and Other Poems, Yeats points out a simple yet fundamental fact, that these
dichotomies are all human constructs. In the poem Vacillation, the speaker solemnly observes that
Between extremities / Man runs his course (Finneran, 250). The most important dichotomy that Yeats
inspects in this volume is the one between life and death. The poet points

Netflix Case Essay
Case 6 Netflix s Business Model and Strategy in Renting Movies and TV Episodes
1. How strong are the competitive forces in the movie rental marketplace? Do a five force analysis to

Currently the competitive forces in the movie rental marketplace are not very strong. There are not
very many players seeking to gain share in the market. The only competitors that come to mind when
thinking of the movie rental marketplace are Netflix, Blockbuster and Red box. The evolution of
technology has allowed many people to stream movies from online at no charge, for most and without

Although there is not much competition in this market, consumers always have alternate methods of
receiving the same services and more than likely the same quality of services elsewhere. Whether it is
choosing to stream videos online, watching them via Pay per View or On Demand it is truly a buyer s
market considering the services rendered aren t considered necessities.
V. Barriers to Entry
It appears that Netflix has control over the vast majority of the movie rental business. Consumers are
renting less than they used to and the convenience that Netflix incorporates into its service, such as
online streaming and mail orders eliminates other competitors from considering entering the movie
rental business.
2. What forces are driving changes in the movie rental industry? Are the combined impacts of these
driving forces likely to be favorable or unfavorable in term of their effects on competitive intensity
and future industry profitability?
The forces driving change in the movie rental industry are as follows:
the economy
cheaper and more convenient alternatives such as cable/ satellite providers offering recordings via
DVR, cell phones, tablets and other electronic devices
Vast changes in technology.
The forces that are driving change are more than likely going to be unfavorable to the movie rental
industry considering the convenience and included perks of choosing them. I ve had experience in the

Anti-Imperialism And American Identity
The concept of American identity is different for everyone. Though the definition differs from person
to person it is based on the same idea of nationalism. In the late 1890s, every American was proud of
what their nation had accomplished thus far, but after the Spanish American War, the opinions of
supporters and non supporters showed a clear difference in their meaning of their American identity.
Supporters, also known as imperialists, used beliefs such as the New Manifest Destiny, Darwinism,
the Monroe Doctrine, and racial supremacy to support their wanting to archive islands and territories
around the word. Non supporters, also known as anti imperialists, used documents such as the
Declaration of Constitution and the Constitution to express their feelings of disapproval.
Consequently, in 1899, anti imperialist Senator George Hoar presented a speech explaining that
acquiring land would be immoral and dishonorable. He claimed under the Declaration of
Independence you cannot govern a foreign territory, a foreign people, another people than your own.
Hoar also included his belief that, You have no right at the cannon s mouth to impose on an unwilling
people your Declaration of Independence and your Constitution and your notions of freedom and
notions of what is good. Charles Eliot Norton in a letter to Charles Waldstein expressed his anti
imperialist beliefs in a letter. Norton, unlike many anti imperialists, respected the fact that other people
supported imperialism. He

The Qualities Of Brando s Acting
Both authors examined the qualities of Brando s acting that made his acting memorable. Neves
investigated Brando s acting style in the 1954 film On The Waterfront. Neves delved into how Brando
s method acting approach strengthened his role and focused on the psychological complexity Brando
gave to the character. Whereas Krasner wrote about Brando s role in the 1951 film A Streetcar Named
Desire and explored specific details in his acting technique, such as his usage of mumbling and his
rebellious wardrobe choices. Neves points proved to be the strongest, with his extremely in depth
analysis and use of psychology to explain Brando s character s actions. In the future, historians could
analyze how Brando s acting improved and became more memorable as he became older. Altogether,
there were many reasons for Brando s memorability, as shown by Neves arguments that the method
style enhanced his acting, and as shown in Krasner s arguments that precise details in his acting made
him memorable, and further information on his memorability could be gained by studying how his
acting became better over time.
Neves addressed the question of Brando s memorability by examining his acting in the 1954 movie
On The Waterfront. Neves uses hearings by Elia Kazan (director of On the Waterfront) by the House
Committee of Un American Activities as a primary source. This source was useful because it allowed
Neves to gain information on the film s background, in the director s own words.

aspects that can be thought of as a successful comedy when compared to the standards of today s
society. The play incorporates some of the very same devices that are used in modern comedies today,
such as topsy turvy romance, foolery, and mistaken identities. Twelfth Night also involves many

In Twelfth Night, the fools are the ones that control the comedy and humor in the play. They assist in

Twelfth Night, Feste, Maria and Sir Toby are the fools that make the comedy work in many senses.
They create the confusion through humor and it all works out in the end to make William Shakespeare
s Twelfth Night a comical play of his time and today. In Twelfth Night, the clown and the fools are the
ones who combine humor and wit to make the comedy work, just like in many comical plays in today

truth is unwinding to build up this comedy. Another aspect of the play that can easily relate to modern
audiences is, William Shakespeare s use of mistaken identities and true life experiences especially
mourning for the loss of family and love obsessions, are among the main focuses of the play. Many

Comparing The Handmaid s Tale And The Blind Assassin
Margaret Atwood uses allusions and symbolism to convey the idea that society strips women of their
full potential in order to justify their oppression. This can be seen in her novels through the constraints
placed on the main female characters. In The Handmaid s Tale Atwood depicts a dystopian society
which appears to be an extreme version of the oppression present in today s society; whereas, in The
Blind Assassin Atwood analyzes oppression through a more realistic lens.
Atwood begins the novel, The Handmaid s Tale with three epigraphs. The first alludes to Genesis 30:1
3, which states: And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and
said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die. And Jacob s anger ... Show more content on

Atwood wrote the novel from multiple viewpoints and sources to [make] the story a suspenseful read,
and [to build] the question of what constitutes truth into the novel s framework. (Hope, Joan). By
questioning what constitutes truth, Atwood is highlighting how sexual victims and women are often
questioned, even though they have nothing to gain from telling the truth, and the men defying them
have everything to lose. Women are stripped of not only their potential, but of their accountability, to
justify the continuation of their oppression. If no one sides with them, their exploitation will continue

Similarites Between the Theories of Max Weber and Karl Marx
Max Weber and Karl Marx have often been regarded as influential theorists who both analyzed in how
the society is constructed in relationship to its economic conditions, more specifically on the division
of labour. Both the labour and economics create a force on how societies are shaped and because of
that Weber and Marx each developed a unique theory on how individuals react and how societies are
formed. Many individuals say that, Marx and Weber both analyzed similar ideas however, they both
had two very different perspective on it. The disparity between the two theorists was not about the
idea that division does not exist, but rather how society acknowledged and reacted to the division.
Max Weber s theory is that capitalist system is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It does not matter whether these two categories become effective in the competitive struggles of the
consumers or of the producers (p.274). The property owners are usually considered to be part of the
upper class, has privileged access to sources and have control over the market, whereas, individuals
who fall under lack of property are of the lower middle classes who provide work in the labour market
and it is mandatory that they follow societal rules by the ruling class. Weber did not strongly believe
that class led to the uniformity in social action. (Social Action)
Weber did not perceive class and status to be defined as one, he argued that status groups meant
communities. Status meant that any of the chances that were provided to an individual was determined
by status honor, this was the linkage to the type of life style an individual lived in. (Provide a
quotation on status honor). ** include the caste system**
Max Weber s main purpose of the theory goes on to explaining that, Class, Status, Party are what
make up the structure of our society. Political power is often based on class and status whereas parties
are perceived to be constructed by power. Weber argues that modern society was not only dominated
by the owners of capital but also by those with political power.
Furthermore, Karl Marx s theory of Manifesto of the Communist Party argues about social

An Overview On The Investment Services Industry
Industry Information and Overview:
The investment services industry is one of the fastest paced and rapidly evolving sectors of the
economy. The industry is highly dependent on the state of the economy and is highly cyclical. In 2000
when established firms in the industry began to tap the potential of the Internet, trading volumes
crashed in what is now termed the Dot Com bubble. In 2002 when it seemed that innovative
technology and telecommunications companies would continuously improve business productivity,
the technology and telecom sectors crashed. More recently, just when the industry thought it figured
out how to rig the mortgage market to secure record profits with little to no risk, the entire mortgage
market crashed and created a liquidity crisis and a recession that would be later described as the Great
Recession. Investment services firms have learned time and time again that they still must contend
with an inevitable cycle of boom and bust.
The primary functions of an Investment Bank:
Raising Capital and Security Underwriting: One function of an Investment Bank is to package and
issue securities for sale to clients, companies or the general public. An investment bank would for
example facilitate the sale of shares of a previously private company that would like to go public and

Similarities Between Catcher In The Rye And The Bell Jar
Independent Essay
Alienation is common throughout society in regard to adolescent youth and young adults. Many
factors cause one to become alienated by their society and peers, including one s sexuality and often
times appearance. Novels such as The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger and The Bell Jar, by Sylvia
Plath, focus on the theme of alienation when considering their main characters, who readers are often
able to relate to upon reading their stories. The novels, The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger and
The Bell Jar, by Sylvia Plath both convey a theme of alienation through the sexuality, confinement and
pressures in society encountered by the protagonists.
To begin, sexuality is a cause of alienation felt by the protagonists of ... Show more content on

In The Catcher in the Rye, Holden has issues growing up. Holden declares that all adults are boring
and phony , and he believes he will evidently be trapped upon growing up, he believes that he is holed
in, trapped by the games of phoniness that society requires its citizens to play (Engel 93). Holden s
single ambition in life is to become a catcher in the rye, and preserve the innocence of children. This
ambition is seen as a child like fantasy which causes Holden to be looked down upon throughout his
society. Wanting to protect the innocence of children can also be a symbol of Holden trying to
preserve his own innocence, and be young again. In addition, Holden only engages in relationships
with children, who are the only people he does not alienate himself from. Holden s lack of judgment
towards children is evident in the quotation, the kid was swell ... he was making out like he was
walking a very straight line, the way kids do, and the whole time he kept singing and humming ... it
made him feel better. It made me feel not so depressed anymore. (Salinger 115). Holden also has a
single, very strong relationship with his younger sister Phoebe which portrays his strong bonds he
feels towards children. In comparison to Holden, in the Novel The Bell Jar, Esther also faces certain
pressures that accompany being a young adult. Firstly, Esther is

Identity In Invisible Man
In the book, Invisible Man, by Ralph Ellison, the story is told by a narrator, who struggles to
understand his own identity. This is an indefatigable effort, despite he is a black man living in a racist
American society. To understand his true identity, the narrator finds himself passing through a series of
obstacles from being awarded a scholarship, being a member of The Brotherhood, or a member of
Society in general. In each instance human nature sanctions a different idea of how blacks should
behave in society. As the protagonist attempts to understand himself through the expectations and
values imposed on him, in each case, he finds that his prescribed role limits his complexity, and forces
him to play a synthetic and delusive part. One instance that truly articulates this is the protagonist
attendance at the black college. At the college in which the main protagonist attends, the ideology is
simply to seek economic improvement, but at the same time not exclaiming for equal rights. Also the

World War I Dbq Essay
Despite being one of the largest and most detrimental wars in Europe s history, World War I was
started by the action of one single person. In June of 1914, the Archduke of Austria Hungary was
assassinated by a Serbian assassin while visiting Serbia. After this, there was tension when Serbia
refused to Austria Hungary apologize for the killing of their Archduke. This continued to escalate until
Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia. Following this, war broke out between countries all around
Europe, leading to World War I. Although, the war would not have grown as large as it did if it weren t
for a few factors that allowed the spark of the assassination of the Archduke of Austria Hungary
Hungary to ignite an entire fire. Many countries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If it weren t for these, the war would not have gotten as substantial as it did. Document A shows that in
1914, the Triple Entente was made up of France, the United Kingdom, and Russia, while Germany,
Austria Hungary Hungary, and Italy made up the Triple Alliance. After Austria Hungary declared war
on Serbia, Russia declared war on Austria Hungary as they were not allies. This led to Germany (ally
of Austria Hungary), to declare war on Russia. This pattern continued until war had broke out
throughout Europe. Allies of countries continued to join the war, causing it to become as big as it did.
Document B shows a cartoon by an (unbiased) American just a week after World War I officially
started. It shows the various alliances that have formed and were pointing at the same countries, as if
blaming them. This demonstrates that alliances were a huge part of the war because they were the
reason that so many countries and therefore people were involved with the war. In conclusion, if it

War I, and would not be as significant as it became in

Definition Of Clinical Governance And Accountability
Introduction:
Within this assignment, the definition of clinical governance and accountability will be explored and
discussed using a literature search. A case example will be used and briefly discuss the accountability
of the nurse and other health professionals of professional standards, local polices and law.
Confidentiality has been maintained within the use of the case example.
A literature search was carried out for clinical governance using the British Nursing Index (BNI).
Results originated from 9,616 when Clinical Governance was inputted. Results reduced significantly
when definition of clinical governance was inputted to 1,278 into the BNI titles were read, before
articles were chosen for abstracts to be read. After abstracts were read, if appropriate the full articles
were read (see appendices 1). Clinical governance was first introduced by the World Health
Organisation (WHO) (Som, 2009) . Som, (2004) definition of clinical governance focuses on
Managing systems to improve outcomes of health care service delivery, the WHO (1998) definition
also focuses on improving health care services but additionally focuses on professional performance,
resource allocation risk management and patient satisfaction. Department of Health (DoH) (1998) has
described clinical governance as a framework which focuses on accountability of health care services
to improve services. Scally and Donaldson (1998) used the same definition in 1998. A contemporary

The Horror Story Of Slender Man
Coming into the 21st century, we have come up with a new way to shed light upon one of our scariest
nightmares. The new boogeyman that has swept across the nation and the world is called, Slenderman.
He is an unusually tall and slender man dressed in a nice suit. He doesn t seem scary at first until you
see his, well, lack of a face. Even then, he doesn t seem that scary until you hear the stories.
Slenderman stalks and psychologically torments his victims (who are usually children) for long
periods of time until he takes his victim in his long tentacles, which grow from his shoulder blades,
and he drags them to another dimension where he consumes them ( Slender Man The Wiki). These
tales are just scary stories to strike a new fear into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For young, immature minds the evidence can be compelling; YouTube documentaries have been
created (Slender Suits by fxscreamer), many forums and websites have pictures of Slenderman
(creepypasta, SomethingAwful, Tumblr etc.), and stories written by non proffessional sources from
several other websites. For those who look further into it, evidence disproving all of this is easily
found. If someone were to look up the true origin of Slenderman, it is clearly stated that it is a fictional
character created for a photo contest. After the attempted murder of the Wisconsin girl, Something
Awful even created an article (as blunt and unfeeling as it may be) telling people where Slenderman
originates from and pleading with people to not be stupid and kill in Slenderman s name (Parsons).
Using the baloney detection kit (or any form of common sense for that matter), any evidence that
Slenderman is real, is unsubstantial, as it is. Photographs, stories and videos are all dismissible due to
how easily they can be manipulated into fallacies. The substantial evidence for the existence of a

Systems Theory Of Systems Thinking Essay
Systems Thinking in Organizations
Systems thinking described human thinking in a spiritual activity of the brain, that is, brainwork,
following the concept of being as the spiritual alive body. It asserts that thinking means the processing
of information that is essential for the management of the human body life (Broks, 2016). This paper
discusses systems theory of systems thinking as applied to organizations today, in particular to
learning institutions versus those of traditional organizations, and their functionalities. Research has
taught us that companies are compelling, hierarchically structured entities. Such dynamism lives in the
emergence of significant events at every organizational level (Caldwell, (2012).
Characteristics of Systems Thinking.
According to Davis, Powell, Dent and Wharff (2015), the features of discovery, action, and framing
are the characteristics of systems thinking that promote organizations success. These three features
analyze the organizations leadership processes between the linkages and interactions of the whole
systems. For example, the three characteristics view the complete organization with its environment
and incorporate the discovery component to explores and guarantee boundaries that include all

Film Differences And Cultural Differences
Some people delude themselves that having freedom means to disregard the human rights of other
people. Everyone has the rights to express one s idea, belief, and thoughts, but there is an invisible
limit to the expressions. When the expressions hurt other people emotionally or physically, one needs
to recognize that the action has to be fixed. This process usually happens as people grow up learning
how to socially behave in the communities. However, the human rights of some people are still being
violated in the public. One of the biggest stages of it is in the mainstream media including the
Hollywood. Hollywood is one of the most impactful media sources that produces global film works.
People live together and no one can live on their own in this society, and for this reason, everyone
should know that individuals have the responsibility of keeping the rights of others. With heavier
respect to be in such positions, Hollywood writers and directors have a social responsibility to avoid
stereotyping ethnic characters for three reasons: to respect the individual cultural differences, due to
the large impact of the media, and for the opportunity to obtain further creativity. At first, Hollywood
writers and directors should have a social responsibility to avoid ethnic characters to respect the
individual cultural differences simply as a human being. People fight for the rights of genders, races,
and positions still to this day, but they do not recognize that certain groups of

Analysis Of The Article What Should The U.s. Do About...
The article What should the U.S. do about ISIS? Show Sunnis we care by Charles Lister is about what
Charles Lister thinks the United States should do to combat ISIS. It has a prescriptive issue and a
conclusion. A prescriptive issue is a question about how the world should be. A conclusion is an
answer to the question asked by the issue that the author wants the reader to accept. Some significant
ambiguity is also present in Lister s article. Significant ambiguity is a word or statement that is
unclear, and the word s meaning affects the reader s ability to accept the conclusion. I will prove that I
have found the correct issue and conclusion and some significant ambiguity using text from Lister s
article. The issue in the article What should the U.S. do about ISIS? Show Sunnis we care by Charles
Lister is How should the United States respond to ISIS. Proof of this issue can be found in Lister s
writing. In the first paragraph he states that the United States cannot defeat ISIS militarily. The U.S.
must help improve the sociopolitical issues in the Middle East. These two statements answer the issue
I put forth. The second and third paragraphs discuss how ISIS has not only attracted foreigners to fight
in its jihad; it has also befriended the oppressed Sunni Muslims. The Sunnis, consequently, are
allowing ISIS to work freely in their territory. Paragraph three asks the question are the Sunnis still
loyal to their country, or are they only loyal to their religion

Because the virus is new, the human population has little to no immunity against it. The virus spreads
quickly from person to person worldwide. The United States is not currently experiencing a flu
pandemic. If a pandemic occurs, the federal government will work to identify the cause and create a
vaccine. Flu.gov will provide updates on the steps the federal government is taking to address the

The Apocalypse of William S. Burroughs Naked Lunch
The roaring of lions, the howling of wolves, the raging of the stormy sea, and the destructive sword,
are portions of eternity too great for the eye of man. (William Blake, The Marriage of Heaven and
Hell, p. 7)
In 1980, William S. Burroughs delivered a speech at the Planet Earth Conference at the Institute of
Ecotechnics in Aix en Provence titled The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse .1 In this speech,
Burroughs, following religious tradition, says that the four horsemen of the apocalypse are Famine,

But he was never considered to be an apocalyptist before this speech. As I shall argue in this paper, in
Naked Lunch (1959), Burroughs serves us a naked apocalypse that is not simply cataclysmic and
frightening but eternal, parodic, and comic.
In 1988, Burroughs was asked to write the introduction to a Keith Haring exhibition catalogue,
Apocalypse.2 In it, Burroughs is more specific about his conception of the apocalypse:
Consider an apocalyptic statement: Nothing is true, everything is permitted Hassan i Sabbath. Not to
be interpreted as an invitation to all manner of unrestrained and destructive behavior; that would be a
minor episode, which would run its course. Everything is permitted because nothing is true. It is all
make believe, illusion, dream.... ART. When art leaves the frame and the written world leaves the page
not merely the physical frame and page, but the frames and pages of assigned categories a basic
disruption of reality occurs: the literal realization of art... Success will write APOCALYPSE across the
sky. (Burroughs and Haring, p. 1)
If nothing is true then there can be no prohibition and no law and everything is permitted, and
permitted in the form of creative art because only that can disrupt reality. The effect of Burroughs
experiments with writing is to demystify literature as an institution and to make it available for
creative work. Anybody can make cut ups , he

The Economic Significance Of Pacific Island Tuna
This paper discusses the economic significance of tuna fishing, and related industries to island nations
in the Southwest Pacific, including the Cook Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati,
Marshall, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papa New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and
Vanuatu. Due to the limited number of exploitable resources available to these island nations, tuna is
an essential renewable resource, and, represents a multi billion dollar a year global industry for these
communities. The Pacific Islands contribute a third of the world s annual tuna supply, providing direct
and indirect employment (roughly 7 percent of national employment), as well as being a valuable
source of government revenue. The main topics covered in this discussion paper are: global
significance of Pacific Island tuna, the value of tuna to the region, employment, exports and benefits,
and fishery related industries.
Global Significance:
In recent years, the annual global supply of tuna (albacore, bigeye, skipjack, and yellowfin) has
averaged roughly 3.6 million metric tons (Joseph, 2000), with the Pacific Islands contributing 1million
metric tons, nearly a third of global supply. Additionally, the Pacific Island nations supply 60 percent
of canned tuna, and 30 percent of tuna bound for the Japanese sashimi market. In comparison to the
other three major tuna fishing areas in the Eastern Pacific, West Africa, and the Western Indian Ocean,

When I was in elementary and middle school I would use pencil grips because I did a lot of writing.
My hand would start to cramp up and hurt and the pencil grip would help ease the pain. I also used
other items such as a pocket dictionary, a calculator, and wide spaced lined paper. Growing up I used
these items in the classroom and while I was at home. The teacher would require us to use these items
when she was teaching a lesson. It was interesting to learn that the windows program has an
accessibility option. I believe that the computer is one of the best assistive technologies because there
are so many things that you can do on the computer. There are websites that the students can use as
well as programs designed especially for them. One point that I got out of Ms. Busby s lecture is that
teachers need to use all of their resources. There are so many items and ways to use those items that
teachers can use to help their students excel in the classroom. I know that this video is rather old, but
one question I have for the guest speaker is what are some assistive technology that teachers are using

Alka Seltzer Lab Report
Alka Seltzer is a medical drug used for pain relief and used for relieving indigestion. For example, if
you have a stomachache or some indigestion problems, Alka Seltzer may help neutralize the stomach
acidity. Not only that, Alka Seltzer is also used for cleaning household items, such as vases or jewelry.
Alka Seltzer contains citric acid and sodium bicarbonate, which makes it dissolve and release carbon
dioxide gas when dropped in water. In this experiment, my lab partner, Rebecca, and I are trying to
find a way to make Alka Seltzer dissolve faster in water. Rebecca and I both decide that if we increase
the temperature of the water or make the water hotter, then the Alka Seltzer will dissolve faster
because I know when salt and sugar dissolve in hot water, they dissolve faster. I predict that this same
result would apply to this experiment.
For our lab, we have six beakers of water. Three of the beakers contain high temperature water that
range from 46 ℃ to 55 ℃, while the other three beakers contain room temperature water that range
from 22 ℃ to 23 ℃. Then, we take six different colored Alka Seltzer tablets, and place them into the
beakers one at a time. We record the length of time it takes for each Alka Seltzer to dissolve ... Show

what was going to become an integral part of International Society International Organisations in the
form as we see them today. With the help of the theory of liberalism, the purpose of this paper is to
better understand how International Organisations encouraged international peace and amity. I aim to
explain how globalization has made the theory of realism almost redundant, how a liberal theoretical
approach is more significant and using this approach to understand why this view made and continues
to make International Organisations critical to peace and how they have helped in the past. The paper
will focus on the United Nations and Amnesty International as key organisations.
The definitions of keywords that will appear repeatedly in this paper and are critical for understanding
the central idea of the paper. Firstly, an International Organisation is a form of institution that refers to
a formal system of rules and objectives, a rationalized administrative instrument (Selznick 1957: 8)
and which has a formal technical and material organisation (Duverger 1972:

Ponca Indian Tribe Research Paper
I chose to research the Ponca Indian Tribe because they started out in the midwest, and currently still
live in Nebraska. The 4 elements I have elected to write about are the social organizations, their
customs and traditions, language, and the forms of government involved with the Ponca Indian Tribe.
The Ponca tribe started out in Minnesota, and in the early 1700 s they were relocated to western banks
of the Missouri River into present day Nebraska. They settled along the Ponca Creek in Knox County
Nebraska located in the northeastern part of the state. The Ponca tribe had a rough road to finally
settling in Nebraska, and Oklahoma. They were moved out by the Sioux Indians in the early 1700 s,
and faced many hardships. In 1879 the government kicked off the Ponca Indians on their land, and the
US government granted them land in the late 1900 s. The tribe s leader was Chief Standing Bear. He
was an inspiration to the Indian people. He began the trial of chief standing bear when he filed a
lawsuit against the US ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the traditions is the Ponca cemetery. The cemetery was established in 1880, and many people
from the tribe are still buried there The top of the hill marks where the first repatriation first took place
of their ancestors where they were in museums before they were buried prior to 1880. Their tribal
museum is another piece of history that belongs to the Ponca Indians. The museum has history
archives, a tribal library, community learning center, and culture department offices. In 1994 the
Ponca held their first ever Pow Wow after the tribes federal reinstatement in 1990. Traditionally, their
Pow Wow s are a celebration for fall harvests, successful hunts, all births, deaths, weddings of tribal
members over the last year, and a gathering place for other tribes, friends, and relatives to meet and
celebrate. Dancing is one of the main traditions the Ponca Indian people

Essay on Environmental Economics and Government Policy
Economists often talk about letting the economy work through the mechanism of the free market
versus government control and regulation. Some believe that if the market is allowed to do its thing
unprohibited and without government interference, then resources will be allocated efficiently,
equilibrium will be found, and so on... However, this is not always possible. Of course, government
control is not perfect either. Thus, it would seem that at times the market may be more appropriate
than the government; other times the government may be needed because the market is not able to
function properly; and other times a combination of the two working in unison may provide the best
and most effective and efficient answers.

Property rights that would lead to efficient allocations have four main characteristics: universality,
exclusivity, transferability, and enforceability. Universality is when all resources are privately owned
and the entitlements are specified. Exclusivity refers to the fact that all benefits and costs due to
owning and using the resource should be directed solely at the owner. Transferability refers to the fact
that all property rights should be transferable from one owner to another in voluntary exchange. And
finally, enforceability simply means that all property rights should be secure from involuntary seizure
by others. With all of these in place, one would certainly use a resource efficiently because a decline in
the value of the resource would represent a personal loss. Furthermore, individuals will only buy as
much of something so that the marginal cost is equal to the marginal benefit that they receive from
purchasing it. And thus, with these defined property rights in place the market indeed would prevail.
Environmental problems are one important class of circumstances in which the market economic
system is not always efficient. This occurs most especially because of the presence of externalities,
and the fact that the agents making the decisions do not bear

Global Climate Change Is The Future Of The Entire Generation
Global climate change transcends the future of the entire generation. Yunjing Wang mentions that the
world is expecting warming that could be dangerous throughout the century (Wang et al., 2015). Not
only effecting species of animals but also determining the presence of human existence. New diseases
prevail on a daily basis specifically vector borne. These vector borne illnesses adapt to climate change
due to temperature fluctuations, constant precipitation, and population adjustments. Although diseases
such as Malaria and Zika are being researched on a daily basis, preventative measures for diseases
caused by climate change are being acted upon by many organizations. If a steady climate can arise in
the near future, virulence of many climate related diseases will eventually decline. The dynamics of
climate influence virulence due to unstable temperatures. The effects on the quality of life creates
vulnerability to those that surround these virulent environments. It is referenced that extreme
outbreaks occur after major disturbances to the population (McMichael, 2015). These climatic events
tend to trigger microbes, pathogens, and hosts to start infecting the nearest populous whether it be
animal or human. As McMichael mentions, microbes have the capacity that is stronger willed than any
biotechnological application and can reproduce a stable metabolism and maintain a relationship in the
most severe disturbance (2015). McMichael, also states that human driven climate

Gay Marriage Should be Banned
1. Introduction
Gay marriage has been in hot debate for a while now. What once was shunned in almost every culture
and society is now creeping into our laws and customs as normal and even acceptable due to the
increase of radicals found in Anglo Saxon societies such as the US and UK. Fueled by the recent
revolutions of women and interracial groups, homosexuals (a group less than 1 percent of the world s
population), have finally taken a stand. Marriage has been a union of opposite sexes for nearly 5000
years and now has come into such scrutiny that it has taken on the attention of the Supreme Court. On
April 28th, 2015, the Supreme Court began the case of Obergefell v. Hodge, the dispute which would
settle the legalization of gay marriage in the entire US. From such a case, the question arises: Should
gay marriage be legalized in the United States? After analyzing the points on both sides of the feud, I
came to the clear conclusion that the answer was no, gay marriage should become and continue to be
illegal in the United States.
2. Why Should we Ban Gay Marriage?
II.A.
Marriage was originally intended as the union of two people of opposite gender in order to create a
procreation flesh. The problem with this is that a gay marriage, or union of two males or two females,
would produce an entirely sterile couple who could not produce children with each other. Although
seemingly harmless, this

  • 2. Song Of Solomon Short Story The sun had long since receded pasted the hills and the moon, tried as it might, could not poke through the thick storm clouds. But that did not stop these men from congregating, not the powerful winds, the beating rain, nor the sky splitting lightening. Their cathedral was calling to them, the old run down barn in the middle of an abandoned field. From the barn just under the drumming rain, you could hear the stomping of feet. Just under the howling winds, an orchestra of screams, choruses of curses ring. And just under the crashing of thunder, the sounds of bone meeting flesh beats. The pit sits in the barn, the pit is where the shouts, cries and curses are being flung, and the pit is where the champ mud covered, stands toe to toe with another would be challenger. Men of all ages encircle the pit; the older ones pointing out differences in the strengths and weaknesses of the fighters. The Hundred Years War, from 1337 to 1453, began when the English king Edward III believed he was the true heir to the French throne. In addition, England owned territories in France, which the French disliked. Furthermore, England and France both wanted possession of Flanders, a French fief dependent on England. At first the English had the upper hand and even had a English king on the French throne, courtesy of the Treaty of Troyes. Crystal Violet reacts with the fatty acids and lipids in your sweat and as a result it produces a purple color. Although this process is used in the forensic science field today, it has its limitations. The intense purple color of the dye sometimes results in the entire tape being stained and as a result the entire fingerprint is ruined and can t be analyzed. The people in this article wanted to find a better solution for the visualization of latent fingerprints that performed better than the methods that we currently use today. • 10. The Role Of Gender And Gender Inequality In Ancient Greece From ancient times the woman was perceived and acknowledged as inferior to men. The female element in ancient Greece was a significant part of the procreation and a form of entertainment. For example, the hierarchical character of Aristotle has played an significant role in reducing the women s value and role in society. The intended purpose of the female gender was to be a keeper, to clean and cook while the male was the provider with less emotions. However, this socially structured vision is strongly based on gendered appearance without questioning the confines of the self expansion and individuality. Performing gender has been habitually implemented on daily basis perhaps until the first feminist movement in the 1800s which lead society to question gender inequality and androcentrism. Furthermore, identity has been ingrained in the royal family through performed gender and iteration of act serves to perpetually reproduce. But is gender only a narrative which fortify expectations and stereotypes of what means to be a male or female? The princess of Wales, Diana Spencer is a quintessential example of the blending genders in modern society and brought a new life to the Monarchy. She has made a significant change in our perception and her character contained every attribute that a role model should exhibit. Coming from an aristocratic family with initially a country girl like style, her identity transformed into a sophisticated, honoured princess and beloved mother. With grace and style, Diana changed the 19th century anachronism of the British Monarchy to the attainable modern institution that it is today. She was a representation of a supremely regal woman who stood by her husband s side hence, independently continued to establish her identity alone after their divorce. On daily basis, she had numerous roles and activities starting from a loving mother, inspiration to the world, organizer of charities and many other royal duties. The Princess of Wales was not a puppet of the Royal family, she had a determined personality to make a change for a better world. Her compassion and hope played a core role in illustrating her social and political eminence. In a way, she used the press to shape her own image ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I do believe the Bulls have an advantage at the Small Forward and Shooting Guard position. Yes Laker fans I would have to give the edge to Pippen over Jerry West seeing Scottie was a lot more athletic and was pretty good defensive player, while Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are about equal. They re very identical when you look at them on film but I give the slightest of slight edge to Jordan on this one. The huge disadvantage comes in the post where you have Kareem and Shaq for the Lakers and Horace Grant and Dennis Rodman for the Bulls. Now offensively realistically the Lakers would have an issue because A: Both Kareem and Shaq are centers and B: Both will clog up likely clog up the post, but even with that Kareem and Shaq too much for Grant and Rodman. The Winding Stair And Other Poems As Professor Pethica points out, the volume The Winding Stair and Other Poems is extraordinary because its textual history is particularly elaborate, even by Yeats s standards. Although I would love to explore the relationship between different editions, as we did when we talked about different editions of Wilde Swans at Coole, the task is too huge to be tackled sufficiently in this paper. In order to preclude any ambiguity, I would like to clarify that whenever I use the title The Winding Stair and Other Poems in this paper, unless otherwise specified, I am referring to the last edition published in 1933. In the poem Three movements, the poet observes that Shakespearean fish swam the sea, far away from land; / Romantic fish swam in nets coming to the hand; / What are all those fish that lie gasping on the strand? (Finneran, 240) Yeats is neither detached Shakespearean fish, nor credulous Romantic fish; he is the fish that lie gasping on the strand, and the volume The Winding Stair and Other Poems is his struggle with the crisis of his age, both the age of the poet (nearly 70 at the time) and the age of the world (1930s). We have talked a lot about Yeats s dialectical effort to transcend mortality and achieve immortality in his poetry. Such effort to transcend mortality presupposes the dichotomy between life and death. Indeed, in previous volumes, may concepts are contingent upon a symmetrically opposing idea: the symbol of the Mask presupposes the dichotomy between self and anti self, and many of Yeats s poems feature the dichotomy between female and male. However, in the volume The Winding Stair and Other Poems, Yeats points out a simple yet fundamental fact, that these dichotomies are all human constructs. In the poem Vacillation, the speaker solemnly observes that Between extremities / Man runs his course (Finneran, 250). • 14. Anti-Imperialism And American Identity The concept of American identity is different for everyone. Though the definition differs from person to person it is based on the same idea of nationalism. In the late 1890s, every American was proud of what their nation had accomplished thus far, but after the Spanish American War, the opinions of supporters and non supporters showed a clear difference in their meaning of their American identity. Supporters, also known as imperialists, used beliefs such as the New Manifest Destiny, Darwinism, the Monroe Doctrine, and racial supremacy to support their wanting to archive islands and territories around the word. Non supporters, also known as anti imperialists, used documents such as the Declaration of Constitution and the Constitution to express their feelings of disapproval. Consequently, in 1899, anti imperialist Senator George Hoar presented a speech explaining that acquiring land would be immoral and dishonorable. He claimed under the Declaration of Independence you cannot govern a foreign territory, a foreign people, another people than your own. Hoar also included his belief that, You have no right at the cannon s mouth to impose on an unwilling people your Declaration of Independence and your Constitution and your notions of freedom and notions of what is good. Many individuals say that, Marx and Weber both analyzed similar ideas however, they both had two very different perspective on it. The industry is highly dependent on the state of the economy and is highly cyclical. In 2000 when established firms in the industry began to tap the potential of the Internet, trading volumes crashed in what is now termed the Dot Com bubble. In 2002 when it seemed that innovative technology and telecommunications companies would continuously improve business productivity, the technology and telecom sectors crashed. More recently, just when the industry thought it figured out how to rig the mortgage market to secure record profits with little to no risk, the entire mortgage market crashed and created a liquidity crisis and a recession that would be later described as the Great Recession. Holden declares that all adults are boring and phony , and he believes he will evidently be trapped upon growing up, he believes that he is holed in, trapped by the games of phoniness that society requires its citizens to play (Engel 93). Holden s single ambition in life is to become a catcher in the rye, and preserve the innocence of children. This ambition is seen as a child like fantasy which causes Holden to be looked down upon throughout his society. Wanting to protect the innocence of children can also be a symbol of Holden trying to preserve his own innocence, and be young again. In addition, Holden only engages in relationships with children, who are the only people he does not alienate himself from. Holden s lack of judgment towards children is evident in the quotation, the kid was swell ... he was making out like he was walking a very straight line, the way kids do, and the whole time he kept singing and humming ... it made him feel better. It made me feel not so depressed anymore. (Salinger 115). Holden also has a single, very strong relationship with his younger sister Phoebe which portrays his strong bonds he feels towards children. In each instance human nature sanctions a different idea of how blacks should behave in society. • 44. Essay on Environmental Economics and Government Policy Economists often talk about letting the economy work through the mechanism of the free market versus government control and regulation. Some believe that if the market is allowed to do its thing unprohibited and without government interference, then resources will be allocated efficiently, equilibrium will be found, and so on... However, this is not always possible. Of course, government control is not perfect either. Thus, it would seem that at times the market may be more appropriate than the government; other times the government may be needed because the market is not able to function properly; and other times a combination of the two working in unison may provide the best and most effective and efficient answers. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Property rights that would lead to efficient allocations have four main characteristics: universality, exclusivity, transferability, and enforceability. Universality is when all resources are privately owned and the entitlements are specified. Exclusivity refers to the fact that all benefits and costs due to owning and using the resource should be directed solely at the owner. Transferability refers to the fact that all property rights should be transferable from one owner to another in voluntary exchange. And finally, enforceability simply means that all property rights should be secure from involuntary seizure by others. With all of these in place, one would certainly use a resource efficiently because a decline in the value of the resource would represent a personal loss. Furthermore, individuals will only buy as much of something so that the marginal cost is equal to the marginal benefit that they receive from purchasing it. And thus, with these defined property rights in place the market indeed would prevail. Environmental problems are one important class of circumstances in which the market economic system is not always efficient. This occurs most especially because of the presence of externalities, and the fact that the agents making the decisions do not bear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Global Climate Change Is The Future Of The Entire Generation Global climate change transcends the future of the entire generation. Yunjing Wang mentions that the world is expecting warming that could be dangerous throughout the century (Wang et al., 2015). Not only effecting species of animals but also determining the presence of human existence. New diseases prevail on a daily basis specifically vector borne. These vector borne illnesses adapt to climate change due to temperature fluctuations, constant precipitation, and population adjustments. Although diseases such as Malaria and Zika are being researched on a daily basis, preventative measures for diseases caused by climate change are being acted upon by many organizations. If a steady climate can arise in the near future, virulence of many climate related diseases will eventually decline. The dynamics of climate influence virulence due to unstable temperatures. The effects on the quality of life creates vulnerability to those that surround these virulent environments. It is referenced that extreme outbreaks occur after major disturbances to the population (McMichael, 2015). These climatic events tend to trigger microbes, pathogens, and hosts to start infecting the nearest populous whether it be animal or human. As McMichael mentions, microbes have the capacity that is stronger willed than any biotechnological application and can reproduce a stable metabolism and maintain a relationship in the most severe disturbance (2015). McMichael, also states that human driven climate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Gay Marriage Should Be Banned Israel McIntosh Professor Endara 5/6/15 Phil 5 Gay Marriage Should be Banned 1. Introduction Gay marriage has been in hot debate for a while now. What once was shunned in almost every culture and society is now creeping into our laws and customs as normal and even acceptable due to the increase of radicals found in Anglo Saxon societies such as the US and UK. Fueled by the recent revolutions of women and interracial groups, homosexuals (a group less than 1 percent of the world s population), have finally taken a stand. Marriage has been a union of opposite sexes for nearly 5000 years and now has come into such scrutiny that it has taken on the attention of the Supreme Court. On April 28th, 2015, the Supreme Court began the case of Obergefell v. Hodge, the dispute which would settle the legalization of gay marriage in the entire US. From such a case, the question arises: Should gay marriage be legalized in the United States? After analyzing the points on both sides of the feud, I came to the clear conclusion that the answer was no, gay marriage should become and continue to be illegal in the United States. 2. Why Should we Ban Gay Marriage? II.A. Marriage was originally intended as the union of two people of opposite gender in order to create a procreation flesh. The problem with this is that a gay marriage, or union of two males or two females, would produce an entirely sterile couple who could not produce children with each other. Although seemingly harmless, this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
