Essay On The Iron Age
The Iron Age According to Toler (2012), now, in the twelfth century BCE, humans enter a new era of
history, shaped by the first alphabet, the new idea of democracy, and a new metal that gives the era its
Iron Age. Smelting iron will allow ordinary men to plow more fields, make new tools, and take arms
against the military elite of mighty empires . (p. 49). The Iron Age paved the way for mankind; the
transformation of landscapes, transformation in the way mankind thought, it aided in forging new
connections, warfare and various discoveries and advances that came over time.

iron and bronze the invention of the crossbow helped to transform the Chinese warfare, which also

Video Gameplay Of Video Games
Video Gaming has played a major factor for video gamers worldwide, this brings the expertise of
video game developers to develop the next generation of video games. Video gamers(?) in Japan and
the United States share the enjoyment in playing video games. What is the history behind video
games? What are the prices of video games in Japanese? What are the prices of video games in the
United States? How are American and Japanese video games are different? There are similarities and
differences in both cultures in video games. The history behind video games all started with theis
console, invented was a rectangular brown cube with two attached controllers, and its name was
Brown Box . Ralph H. Baer was the inventor of this console, which it was released in 1967. He made
it to where it can be connected to any ordinary television set. They were six games for this console
including: Ping Pong, tennis, handball, volleyball, chase games and a light gun game. In 1975, Atari
marketed the PONG arcade machine. In the same year Magnavox released Odyssey 100 and 200.
Nintendo released its first console in Japan in 1977. In the 1980 s video games became very popular.
Many people became bored of the PONG like games and wanted something new. They made games
such as Pac man (1980), Mario Bros (1983), The Legend of Zelda (1986), Final Fantasy (1987),
Golden Axe (1988), etc. The video game industry soon shifted to making cartridge video games

Paradoxes of Power in Sociological Insight by Randall Collins
Paradoxes of Power in Sociological Insight by Randall Collins It may be said that the institution of
power has always been a prevalent force in our society. It is a large part of what holds society
together; without it civilized society as we know it would not exist. The functions of power range
from keeping crime at bay to the more commonplace aspects such as allowing patrons to be served in
a restaurant. The notion of power is almost invisible until further analyzed; it is something that we
perceive as being simple and therefore take for granted. Yet there are so many intricacies in regard to
power that still remain to be seen. In Chapter Three of Sociological Insight by Randall Collins, the
author ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet some forms of power are certainly more effective than others. The key to realizing power most
effectively lies in the acknowledgement of occasional concession and knowing when to giv(e) in on
something less important (74). For instance, once again consider the example of a mother and child.
Assume that the child wants to go over to a friend s house to play, but he has promised his mother that
he would do his chores that afternoon. The child begs his mother to let him go and play, assuring her
that he will do his chores immediately upon arriving home. The mother concedes, and the child is
happy. If we are to analyze this situation in terms of gains and losses, the mother has gained points
with her son and has essentially suffered no loss the chores will still be done, only a few hours later.
Throughout the entire scenario, the mother s power is evident, both explicit and implicitly; the son
does not forget that his mother has the ultimate say in what he does, and in letting her son go she has
not only made him happy but is also asserting her power as a parent. In sum, the mother has most
effectively realized her power by knowing when to sacrifice something that is of lesser importance
while gaining more long term benefits. Another way that power may be asserted is by the influences
of certain situations, namely

Health Benefits And The Business Aspects Of The Beloved...
Coffee
My topic of choice is coffee. I personally drink a large amount of it everyday. I spent a lot of time
trying to figure out what I wanted my topic to be. Coffee is something I enjoy everyday and am
curiosity about. At one time I wanted to open my own coffee shop. That dream is dead, but I still
enjoy the beverage, often in a hip, public place surrounded by friends. I believe this topic will keep me
focused and interested and enlighten me on current arguments and facts. I am interested in the health
benefits and the business aspects of the beloved brew. I had an intention at one time of pursuing
nutrition as a degree, so health information intrigues me. Currently, I am considering business as a
degree plan. Researching the business aspect may help prepare me for that future and give me a
glimpse at what business entails. On a humorous note, I know I will need large doses of caffeine to
make it through my college career, so I would like to know my limits.
I have read many times over the last few years that coffee is good for you. Others tell me often that it
is not, to which I tell them it is, based on material I have read, but not researched. I do not recall much
material stating that it is bad, but I know it is out there. Part of my research paper will be in pursuit of
finding the facts about the health benefits and harms of the brew. From my limited reading in the past,
I have learned that it naturally contains antioxidants that fight free radicals in your body,

My Favorite Sport Essay
If you can imagine one thing and one thing only that can change a way a person feels, how they think,
and how they live, what would that thing be? For me I really couldn t answer that question, as a little
kid who s only thought was to have fun, all I cared about was playing video games and watching
cartoons. One day, my cousins came over to my house asking if they could watch something on the
TV, I said sure, so they turned on the TV and put on a documentary. At first I was disinterested and
wanted to go back to my usual habits, but I stayed and watched, I realized that the documentary
contained the answer to my question and that answer was sports. Out of all the sports, basketball
became my guidance, it spoke to me in a way where it wasn t just an interest, but a window of
discovering who I am, what I love, and what I want to become. In that window of time I would watch
every basketball game and practice my skills as a player. Watching NBA players give their hearts out
to the game of basketball brought me joy as well as the confidence and determination to play and
improve my skills to be just like them. My favorite player was Kobe Bryant because he would play
every game at the highest level he could play at and he had a killer work ethic that a person would
only dream of having. I would set an alarm at 10 a.m. to wake up and start practicing because all I
wanted was to be the best at something that means so much to me.
When I turned 10, my parents signed me up for a

Perks Of Being A Wallflower Psychological Analysis
Abstract Perks of Being a Wallflower is a film about a 15 year old teenager boy, Charlie, who deals
with his first love, flashbacks of his Aunt and his own mental illness. Psychological background of
Charlie gives shape to his current behavior. Actors made the film realistic. When Charlie had mental
breakdown, Logan Lerman embraced its character wholeheartedly. However, the film is messy as the
directors put together many psychological problems in one scene making it difficult to figure out the
psychological patterns. It would have been better if the writers organized some of the scenes more
carefully. On the other hand, the film is still the best among other psychological films based on
teenagers. Introduction The purpose of the report is to arrive at some hypothesis about the main
character Charlie, his behavior, personality and capabilities after doing some psychological research as
the film was mainly based on him. Our major aim of this report is to understand how theories and
concepts are applied to the main character Charlie in the film. The film focuses on the problems and
diseases that teenagers face and they are unaware of it. For example, Charlie was suffering from

Cellulosic Ethanol Cons
It s not easy being green. This jeremiad of Kermit the Frog rings all too common in today s energy
production crisis. Now more than ever the US needs its energy to be derived from natural, renewable
resources. As George W Bush, an oil supporter, even stated, America is addicted to oil (Ratliff, 2012).
It s now become evident to those in authoritative roles in the American government that oil will not be
able to sustain our nation unceasingly. Attempts at funding alternative energy sources have included
exploration of various types of ethanol sugar, corn and cellulose. Out of these three, the most
promising is the possibility of ethanol derived from cellulose. Cellulosic ethanol is a source of energy
from fibrous plant material that may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The composition may pose a problem, but the components are also valuable in that they are natural,
renewable resources. Using natural resources instead of oil would lower the US s dependence on
foreign oil. By lowering our oil intake from other countries, the US can reduce military spending that
is directed at maintaining oil supplies, and instead spend this money on other costs for internal
matters. In addition, most infrastructure is already formed to adapt to this ethanol. Most cars on the
road in the US are Fuel Flex capable, so it would pose no needed change. Also, around the country
there are about 2000 E85 spots available at gas stations. Overall, its energy output is 2 to 36 times the
energy required to produce it. With more energy output, there is less fuel needed to be created (using
less resources) and consumers will be able to pay less at the pump and instead use it for other
expenses. Most notable, is the fact that using ethanol reduces 85 94% of emissions compared to oil.
Reducing emissions will in turn lower the greenhouse effect, and lessen global warming effects
(GreenTheFuture). In general, this matter is low costing or free. Municipal solid waste, which can be
used, can even be subsidized to take, since normally it would have to be paid for for its disposal in a
landfill. By using non edible fuel crops and municipal solid waste, consumer prices for groceries will
not be driven upward, unlike corn, which uses farmland that otherwise would have been used for food
production. Thus, corn drives up the price of food (Christian, Jan. 5, 2015). While opponents argue
that it would require vast farming operations, meaning clearcutting in some cases, acquisition of

Canterbury Tales Character Analysis
The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer is a collection of stories referring to a group of pilgrims on
a journey to the Canterbury Cathedral. Geoffrey Chaucer, the author was born in the year of 1343 in
the beautiful city of London, and later died on October 25th in 1400. Geoffrey began his adulthood
fighting for england in the Hundred Years War. After the war he pursued his passion in writing and
English literature, beginning known as the Father of English . His favorite style was Vernacular
Literature. He is also the first poet to be buried in Westminster Abbey s Poets Corner.
Throughout the Pardoner s Tale he preaches about greed, drinking, blasphemy, and gambling but in
the Pardoner s Prologue he admits to committing these sins himself. In the Tale itself the pardoner also
condemns to people who drink and says, Witness the Bible, which is most express/That lust is bred of
wine and drunkenness . Each character s tale is started with an introduction to the characters story,
followed by their story, and then an epilogue, which wraps the story up... The characters tell the other
characters the theme they will be addressing, and then the conclusion they can draw from that theme,
Morality is a major theme present in these tales. The characters are introduced in a descending order
of morality, where they are also split into three classes: the clergy, the nobility, and the peasants and
commoners. The reason Chaucer uses social commentary when describing the characters in the
prologue is for example the knights are supposed to be chivalrous and noble, but instead the chaucer
describes his knights as such. The reason 29 men are on there way to the Canterbury Cathedral is to
visit the Shrine of St. Thomas Becket. During their voyage they all share multiple stories, a bright idea
is brought up to make a wager saying they will give a prize to the person who tells the best story.
Geoffrey Chaucer, reexamines those who play a more stereotypical role in the book than others and
help re create a new role for them to be twisted into society with. Chaucer discusses different
stereotypes and separates his characters from the social norm by giving them highly ironic and/or
unusual characteristics. Specifically, in the

There are many views and oppinions on the upcoming plan to require all future U.S. high school
graduates to spend one year in service to their country before college. Congress is supporting and
pushing towards this decision. Many others, however, strongly disagree with this mandatory civil
service year after high school. This high school, and many others in the area, also believe that this
would be counterintuitive to have countless graduates leave their field of study, have to take away
time from religious trips, and it would make serving in the the military less exceptional. Leaving
schooling for a year, would greatly impact ones memory of the importants information that they
gained in high school. Many students throughout the United States

Belly Flop Research Paper
Our results show that doing a belly flop would cause the most harm to a person who is diving into a
pool of water. This is based off of the greater speed that a person belly flops into the water (8.3 m/s2),
which is more than both head first diving (7.73 m/s2) and rotating into the water (7.34 m/s2). Also, the
amount of force that the water exerts on the body while doing a belly flop (1079 N) is greater than the
amount of force the water exerts on the body while head first diving (1004.95 N) and rotating into the

Analysis of The Wasteland by T.S. Eliot Essay
Analysis of The Wasteland by T.S. Eliot
Q5 Much of what Eliot writes about is harsh and bleak, but he writes about it in a way that is often
beautiful . Comment fully on both parts of this assertion.
Most first time readers of Eliot s work would, probably, agree that his poems read as bleak and
depressing. They would also say that many of his poems portray society as having a terminal illness,
but when we look deeper you can see that amid the anguish not all is lost and there is hope to be found
among the ruins. The Wasteland , is an amalgamation of fragmented images that are disturbing and,
yet, at times beautifully poetic. The juxtaposition of the ugly landscape and the lyricism with which it
is conveyed lend the poem an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This reinforces Eliot s claim that, Genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood . The
theme s that run throughout The Wasteland , such as sterility, isolation and death, are applicable to
both the landscapes and the characters. When drawn together, it is these themes that give the poem
structure and strength, and the use of myth mingled with historic, anthropological, religious and
metaphysical images reinforce its universal quality.
In part one The Burial of the dead , Eliot opens with a scene of isolation and desolation. April is the
cruellest month #8230; which is an inversion of what spring represents, this being new life and hope.
It is seen here as cruel because, for Marie, it stirs memories, which are no longer there and have led
nowhere. He follows this image of isolation with an image of togetherness, Winter kept us warm,
covering Earth in forgetful snow #8230; She recalls being free in the mountains, but freedom involves
taking risks and she hesitates and goes south in the winter . Marie s memories portray the shallowness
of the aristocracy and in many ways we are reminded of the ladies in Prufrock who come and go
talking of Michael Angelo . There talking leads nowhere and so by implication their lives are
meaningless and dead, as dead as the wasteland.
The next stanza shifts to images of the dead land with clutching branches and roots. We can see from

Chinoiserie s Influence On American Architecture
Chinoiserie arose as a movement in response to the strict restraints of the Baroque style. More
broadly, this public reaction is characterized as the Rococo style, which Louis introduced in his court
in France around 1750. The Rococo style played with the imagination; whimsy, asymmetry and high
contrast in both scale and color exemplify the art and architecture of the style. Chinoiserie grew out of
the Rococo style as European became fascinated with the Far East, specifically intrigued by Chinese
ceramics. The blue and white luster glaze pottery depicting imaginative accounts of Chinese life
became incredibly popular in the late 18th century. And, while Chinoiserie s influence on architecture
was present at Versailles as early as 1670, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ecology Lab Report
Ecology is the study of interaction between living organisms and nonliving environmental factors. The
objective of the study is to determine the forest ecology of the Manor House by calculating the
density, size, and diversity of the woodlot (Biology 214 Laboratory Handout). Diversity is the degree
of the variability among the living organisms. It is important to study diversity because a larger
variability of within a community will promote the productivity of an ecosystem. In addition, the
knowledge of the number of individual organisms present in a population is important to ecologists.
Many methods exist to quantify the numbers of individual organisms in a specific area. It is important
to chose a measuring method that is most practical for the sampling area. The point quarter technique,
developed by Cottan and Curtis, is widely used to estimate the area covered by an organism based on
random samplings on specific areas. The sample area is chosen at random along a transect, relying on
the random distribution of organisms in the area. From the random point, the area is divided into four
quadrants and the point to plant distance is measured. From this measurement, species density,
diversity and importance value can be calculated. Khan and his colleagues (2016) investigated the

the characteristics of the woodlot, I observed that the forest was not densely populated and the

deeper into the forest, 50 feet, would show more diversity than the transects at 25 feet because the
forest centralizes deeper into the forest and is less disturbed, which results in a wider diversity of the

Michael Jordan Perseverance
Michael Jordan is known for his abilities on the basketball court. In the 90 s, Jordan helped the

talent didn t come naturally to him. In fact, during his junior year of high school, he was cut from the

This usually manifests itself in the creation of an invisible person that they engage in an active
relationship with. While many parents are confused about how to approach and relate to their child
and their child s imaginary companion they should be assured that the process is quite normal.
Imaginary companions are not a sign of mental illness but a normal healthy part of a child s
development (Taylor, 1999). Historical View of Imaginary Companions Early research on imaginary
companions was deficit focused in nature Some of the earliest research around the beginning of the
1900 s viewed it as a sign of a psychological disorder (Vostrovsky, ... Show more content on

In fact studies have shown that children with imaginary companions have be more socially orientated
than not (Gleason, Jarudi Cheek, 2003). Imaginary companions may serve a variety of functions but
the particular function they fulfill for each child depends on the wishes and needs of the one who
creates them (Hart Zellars, 2006). How did imaginary friends get created? Starting from infancy
children start with sensorimotor play which consists of only motor activity (Ungerer, Zelazo, Kearsley,
O Leary, 1981). A young child that likes to shake a rattle to hear the sound is engaging in sensorimotor
play. Infants also engage in imitation. Imitation is the replication of the activities of another when they
can see the activity being done (Frahsek, Mack, Mack, Pfalz Blezinger Knopf, 2010). The child and
the type of play they engage in will grows more complex as the child s development advances (Piaget,
1962). As the child grows a little older and starts into the preoperational stage they start engaging in
symbolic play. One of the key evidence of being able to engage in symbolic play is by imitating the
actions they see others doing after they cannot observe them being done (Fein, 1981). Imitating past
behavior of others uses representational skills and is called deferred imitation (Vasta,

Changes In The Endocrine System
The endocrine system is made up of organs and tissues that produce hormones. Hormones are natural
chemicals produced in one place, secreted into the bloodstream and then used by other organs and
target systems. Hormones control the target organs. Some organic systems have their own internal
control systems in place of the hormones or together with them.
As we get older, natural changes occur in the way in which body systems are controlled. Some target
tissues become less sensitive to the hormone that controls them. The amount of hormones produced
can also change. The blood levels of some hormones increase, those of others decrease and those of
some others remain unchanged. Hormones also break down (metabolize) more slowly. Many of the
organs that produce hormones are controlled by other hormones. ... Show more content on

This region produces hormones that control other structures in the endocrine system. The amount of
these regulatory hormones remains almost the same, but the response from the endocrine organs can
change as we get older. The pituitary gland is also located in the brain. This gland reaches its
maximum size when people reach middle age and then gradually becomes smaller.
The thyroid gland is located in the neck. This gland produces the hormones that help control the
metabolism. With age, said gland can become protruding (nodular). The metabolism decreases with
time, beginning around 20 years of age. Because thyroid hormones are produced and broken down
(metabolized) at the same rate, tests of thyroid function are usually still normal. In some people
thyroid hormone levels may rise, leading to an increased risk of dying from cardiovascular disease.
The parathyroid are four small glands located around the thyroid. Parathyroid hormone affects calcium
and phosphate levels, which affect bone strength. The levels of parathyroid hormones rise with age,
which can contribute to

American Policy In Graham Greene s The Quiet American
Through its critical depiction of American policy in the conflict between the Viet Minh and Southern
Vietnam, Graham Greene s The Quiet American suggests that journalist Thomas Fowler s perspective
of foreign non intervention in Vietnamese affairs is justified because Fowler understands the
discomfort and struggles Vietnamese citizens face first hand while his rival, Alden Pyle, refuses to
allow his experiences change his firm beliefs in democracy. Pyle, an American working with the
Economic Aid Mission, is an ardent believer in the virtue and necessary action of the American
foreign policy. Despite formulating his own opinions based on author York Harding and having no
experience in Southern Asia, Pyle was absorbed already in the dilemmas of Democracy and the

As he perceives the individuals and nations only as they conform to his, and York Harding s, belief,
Pyle is blinded to American policy effects on Vietnamese citizens, seeing how the dilemmas of
Democracy , taking away certain rights to maintain order, justifies these harmful political
ramifications to the Vietnamese. Greene allegorically depicts Pyle as America and its ideology
containment is a responsibility Americans have for the rest of the world. As he did not spend any time
amidst the problems and grounds in Vietnam, Pyle is narrow minded and naive because he fails to
comprehend how America s actions are colonialist and to acknowledge that the solution should come
from within Vietnamese civilians own society rather than foreign countries. While Fowler and Pyle
discuss contrasting Western perspectives on foreign intervention in a watchtower in Vietnam, Fowler
explains how [the Vietnamese] want enough rice. They don t want to be shot at. They don t want our

Behn s Infatuation Between Amer-Indians And Oroonoko
Although Aphra Behn s infatuation with both the Amer Indians of Suriname and Oroonoko may lead
one to believe that she is somewhat different from the general European population, her descriptions
of said peoples reveal her true emotions as those of the general European populace. As such, she
projects the beliefs at the time, making her an indicator of widely held attitudes towards the
justification of enslavement, or the lack thereof, and the perception of foreign peoples. Understanding
Europeans attitudes during the 1600 s, when Oroonoko; or, The Royal Slave was published, allows
one to greater comprehend European slave owners religious motivations for enslavement. Behn tries

They are described as being, ...modest and bashful, very shy and nice of being touch d (Behn 39) and
that, ...there is not to be seen an indecent Action, or Glance... (Behn 39). These conservative qualities,
qualities not typically found in heathens, give them a pseudo Christian appeal, thereby justifying their
lack of enslavement. Behn goes so far as to compare them to, ...our first Parents before the Fall...
(Behn 39) and even compares their aprons to what, ...Adam and Eve did [with] the Fig leaves... (Behn

well, and of governing as wisely, had as great a Soul, as politick Maxims, and was as sensible of
power, as any prince... (Behn 44). These instances characterize the Amer Indians and Oroonoko as
nearly Christian. They also provide justification for the Amer Indians lack of enslavement. Through
both their Christian values and the direct allusions to Christianity, Behn justifies their freedom based
on them being too innocent, modest, and nearly Christian to enslave. In other words, they are too
human. She implies that subjecting the Amer Indians to such horrors would be a tragedy, whereas the

Some other questions that I am going to answer that support my main problem are whether or not the
type has anything to do with how late a bill get paid.
Analysis and Methods
Based on the data the dependant (response) variable is the days overdue which is represented in Figure
E as Y. The independent (predictor) variable is the bill amount and the type of bill which are
represented by X in Figure. In analyzing all the data I was able to conclude that we did not need the

Duty Day Limits
Different rules apply for Part 121, Part 135, and Part 91 federal regulations when it comes to pilot
duty day limits. Part 121 refers to air carriers such as regional and major airlines. Part 135 refers to
commuter and on demand operations such as corporate and government flights. Part 91 refers to
general aviation such as small aircraft and weekend flyers. Should flight time and rest time
requirements be different between these parts? Part 121 is the most stringent when it comes to pilot
flight hours and rest time. Pilots are limited to 1,000 hours per calendar year, 100 hours per calendar
month, and 30 hours per seven consecutive days. Pilot required rest intervals are nine hours of rest for
flights less than eight hours, 10 hours of rest for flights more than eight hours but less than nine hours,
and 11 hours of rest for flights more than 9 hours. Part 135 is less stringent than Part 121 when it

Manifestation of Communism
Marx, K. F. Engels Bourgeois and proletarians
Tom Considine
Marx, K. F. Engels (1972 [1848], p.1) said The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of
class struggles. (Marx, K. F. Engels 1972 [1848], p.1) This is the opening text from Marx and it is the
theme of the rest of the chapter. Marx writes of the oppression of the proletarians and how the
capitalist bourgeoisie have commodified them. He describes his disapproval for the capitalists stating
that there is revolt from the proletariats due to the exploitation that was taking place, this would be the
same for any capitalist society. Throughout the text there is the overriding idea that society would
benefit with equality and public ownership (socialism). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marx is trying to convey that capitalism is a poor way for a society to operate however i can see that
this method would be more efficient and competitive, thus increasing the productivity of the economy.
Marx s idea is that property should be publicly owned, individuals should cooperate, production is
social and everything is shared equally. Marx, K. F. Engels (1972 [1848], p.42) said Of all the classes
that stand face to face with the Bourgeois today, the proletariat alone is a really revolutionary class
(Marx, K. F. Engels 1972 [1848], p.42). Marx believes this is because the laborers where the
individuals who created socialism because they wanted to fight for their rights and become equal.
They succeeded because they were the majority and therefore had a power over the Bourgeois because
with the labour there would be no capitalism. The first reason I disagree with socialism is because
price signals become distorted or absent, the market price for goods and services cannot be rationally
allocated if the individuals aren t earning income in a free market. If all individuals receive an equal
income and everything is shared then what is the incentive to work harder? If there is no incentive to
earn a higher wage then individuals may be less motivated. Decreased motivation means that there
will be a decrease in efficiency and thus a decrease in production, therefore the economy will suffer.
The last argument against socialism is that it the advancement of

how the discrimination they faced during the Holocaust came about. It is very clear to me know that it
came from a deep seeding of hatred that started long before World War 2. Reading Kabbalah Hasidism
really showed me the effect Judaism has had on the rest on the world. How their traditions have turned
into the traditions of other countries. It is interesting to see in the reading A Hasidic Tish how much
they still today come back to tradition. In modern Christianity, traditions have been changed to match
today s culture. I think it is very interesting to see religious groups like ultra orthodox Jews still
maintain the traditions exactly they way they did when they first arrived in the United States. The
Diaspora Community is almost hard for me to comprehend just due to the fact that I couldn t imagine
being an exile from a town because of my religion. The Jewish people, time and time again, have been
punished for believing and practicing the way they do. I find it empowering the strength that Jewish
leaders must have to keep their people s faith alive. Bar or bat mitzvah is probably the most known
tradition of the Jewish faith. I see it talked about all the time on popular media outlets and before
reading this passage I had a pretty good understanding that it was when a

New Fathers Should Have A Paid Parental Leave Law Essay
New fathers are showing more interest in the day to day activities of their children. They are wanting
to be more than just breadwinners; they want to be more attached to their children. As was pointed out
earlier, 86 percent of fathers said they would take paternity leave if it paid 70% of their income. For a
lot men in the Citation survey, the expected income reduction did not dissuade them from taking
parental leave to be with their newborn and wife.
My own survey showed me that the majority of respondents, and perhaps of the population, is
unaware that there is currently no paid parental leave law in the country. This came as a surprise since
only one of them did not have kids. Expectant father Philip Holt said that he was also unaware of the
lack of a paid parental leave law in the country. However, when asked if they think the country should
have a paid parental leave law, most replied yes ( Parental Leave Awareness , n. pag.).
Perhaps these survey results also coincide with the assertion by some researchers that nurturing and
caretaking is not just an inborn characteristic but an acquired one. The result of this Citation survey
points us to the strong possibility of re defining gender roles. But gender redefining aside, in order for
a parental leave law to promote the medical, societal, and economic benefits it entails, it needs to be
practical for everybody to take.
The results of my own survey further gave merit to my proposal for a paid parental leave law. The

Descriptive Essay About Snow White
Snow White. Casper. Why do these characters sound familiar to me? Well, these have been the
nicknames I have acquired through the years. I describe myself as bright white. I never realized how
white I was until people felt the dire need to tell me. As a young child, I never really thought it was a
super colossal deal either. But as we age, we learn new things that perhaps we did not recognize
before. People say that some things in life, you just never forget. This indeed is very true. Words can
scar. Several summers ago I was at a friend s house playing volleyball with a few people. Does it
bother you that you are so white? asked a girl who I did not even know. I dropped the ball and stared
at her with a blank expression. All that was running through my mind was, Does it bother you that you
are so obnoxious?
But of course this thought was not vocalized. I simply kept playing volleyball. But soon after I
established questions. Does it bother me? Should it bother me? I went home that day and glared at
myself in the mirror. Then it struck me, I was whiter than most people were. This one stranger s
comment made me question myself. I began to over analyze and as time passed by my self esteem
plummeted. I thought that maybe if I had been born with sun kissed skin, my family and friends would
not judge me. Then, I began wearing makeup to not look as sickly as people made me out to be. I
developed a sudden yearning to go down to the shore all the time to try to get some type of color.
But then one day, I studied my mom s face. Her smooth, glowing, and porcelain skin made me
wonder. I was curious as how a woman at her age could look ten years younger. My mom shared the
specific ingredient to maintaining beautiful skin. She explained that staying out of the sun was the key
to wrinkle free skin as an adult. Hundreds of thoughts ran through my mind. She also stated that as a
teenager, she experienced all the same reactions. In fact, one crude person asked if she had lived in a
bomb shelter, meaning that it looked as if she never saw the sun. The irony of it all was that these
people with the so called society accepted complexions who told me to lay in the sun, actually had
imperfections on their skin from

Similarities Between Canada And The United States
The neighboring countries of the United States of America and Canada are similar and different in
many ways, but they also have their differences. For instance Canada has designated sports for certain
seasons when the U.S. has designated time frames for their sports, which span multiple seasons, but
both countries play some of the same sports. The national anthems are very different, but also similar
in the fact that they both declare the peoples love for their country. The flags may have different
designs, but they both strongly represent their country. When you think about it, Canada and the U.S.
have a lot more in common then you would think. To start, both Canada and the U.S. love their sports.

Comparing Luke s Gospel And Matthew
The Gospel Writer
The story of Jesus heals a Roman officer s servant was written in he book of Luke and Matthew. The
only Gentile Christian writer of the New Testament was Luke. Gospel of Luke is the third of the four
Gospels of the New Testament, which tells the story of Jesus. Luke did not live during Jesus life, but
he investigated his life very carefully. Matthew s gospel was written just after Luke s in 90 A.D.
Matthew s Gospel was written in Greek because many parts of the Gospel are the same as Mark s,
which was also written in Greek. Both Matthew and Luke used Mark as a source. Matthew s Gospel
was most likely written in either Palestine or Syria. Matthew s Gospel was likely written for Christians

social groups such as the Pharisees as it is mostly based around the Jesus, the Centurion and his
servant. Jesus reveals his surprise as he describes the Servant as a very faithful man and that he has
never seen anyone like this before. The centurion initiates action by calling for Jewish Elders to find
Jesus and tell him that his servant needs his help. Through the story Jesus interacts with all the
characters, the Centurion, the servant and the Jewish Elders. The Servant interacts with everyone
except the Elders. While the Centurion is like Jesus, he interacts with everyone. Words that the writer
uses to get his message across are, they came to Jesus and begged him earnestly, This man really
deserves your help . This gives the view that Jesus is a very important man and is the one people look
to. The point of the text is to post a view and image of who Jesus is and how capable he is with

The body referring to Antigone?s brother, this determination was to go against the law established by
Creon. When a particular law is poorly established, someone is bound to defy it. Namely, Antigone
was bound to break this law and disobey its authority. Credibility is also shown in ?from
Crito?; the prisoner who taught philosophy. Plato was imprisoned because he taught philosophy to
people and he is credible for not doing wrong. In King?s ?Letter from Birmingham Jail?, it is credible
because it is known that Martin Luther King Jr. is a very credible person in the civil rights movement.
Credibility strikes to be an important part of this claim.
The logical part of the rhetorical appeals refers mainly to the specific facts as evidence. From ?Letter
from Birmingham? a good logical claim, made by Martin Luther King Jr., supports and explains how
his race was treated as inferior and being persecuted. He utilizes examples of how racial injustice
became a huge problem. Antigone also provided facts for claims of civil disobedience and of how she
was opposed to the law of leaving her brother left without a proper burial. The quotation ?After those
terrible threats of yours, kings, we brushed the dust away from the body.? This quotation refers and
explains how Antigone had originally buried the body and the guard had uncovered it. There isn?t
much logical appeal in the work ?from Crito?.

generation combined with the fact that large quantities of people gather their information from these
social media sites, it is imperative that the issue of fake news is addressed. The social media platform
is the ideal breeding grounds for fake news since information can be spread with the click of a button
with little to no fact checking. The reader must remember that fake news exists solely to provoke a
response and if the material seems outlandish or impractical, then it probably is. One way to address
the growing problem is to question what we read. We should get in the habit of comparing the
information provided to other sources to see if the facts line up. Also, Melissa Zimdars offers solid
advice by assessing the domain. Information from washigntonpost.com.co, NBCnews.com.co.
ABCnews.com.co, UnderGroundNewsReport.com, nationalreport.net, and many others are fake news.
Lastly, becoming aware with the more common fake news sites is another way to combat spreading of
fake news. By doing so, one can start reporting the fake news to the social media administrator and
blocking further information from those sites. If we can all make an effort to question the sources and
information we read then we can take the

Malcolm Baldrige Award
Introduction
The Malcolm Baldrige Award was created by congress in 1987 and signed by President Reagan to
recognize U.S organizations in healthcare, education, business, and nonprofit organizations for
performance excellence. During this time companies were striving to be the best, trying to top one
another in price, business, and quantity. Congress saw this increase and they wanted to set a standard
for the companies and award the ones that go above and beyond for their customers not only in quality
but also in customer service. The reason for this was many American companies did not know about
quality, nor implemented quality into their products. The award was named after Malcolm Baldrige
who was the 26th Secretary of Commerce. He was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Symbiotic Relationship Lab Report
Parasitic or Mutual Symbiotic Relationship?
Author: Natasha Patel. Lab Partner: Ariana Crolene. Mira Costa College 3333 Manchester Ave
Cardiff, CA 92007.
Abstract:
Our experiment is designed to show the symbiotic relationship between the mycorrhizal fungus and
spinach plant. We constructed a 2X2 table of live molasses and controlled groups. Our hypothesis is
that the live molasses with mycorrhizae group will extend the plants root bodies and increase the total
surface area of the plant. That being said, the fungus and the plant will have a symbiotic mutual
relationship towards each other. Our predictions came out to be false. The controlled groups had a
higher average in shoot length and wet mass, which indicates that the plant and fungus have a parasitic
relationship towards each other.
Introduction: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mycorrhizae benefited from the sugars but the plant did not benefit from the mycorrhizae, which
caused them to not extend their root bodies. The controlled groups had higher averages than the lived
averages. Also, the class averages were similar to our data as well. For future experiments, the plants
with mycorrhizae should be given more molasses, which will allow us to detect if the plant and fungus
have a symbiotic relationship or not. There have been many studies that provide mycorrhizae aiding
plants for nutrients, proper growth, and survival. However, there are experiments that will show
outliers and proving that not all studies are correct, which basically demonstrates the field of biology.
In biology, we constantly perform numerous experiments to validate our hypothesis. But, there are
exceptions when our hypothesis comes out to be false, which always gives us room to modify our
errors. Thus, biology is a never ending field and is constantly growing for new findings in

The Importance Of Plants In Human Life
Plants are important life forms belonging to the taxonomic kingdom Plantae and are classified further
by the hierarchical system to group similar plants together. Taxonomy is described as the method by
which scientists, conservationists, and naturalists classify and organize the vast diversity of living
things on this planet in an effort to understand the evolutionary relationships between them
(Fenneman, 2017). How a plant is classified can be a clue to the uses for that plant in regards to
human life. Historically, plants have played a vast role in the everyday lives of humans. Indigenous
peoples have used over a thousand different plants for food, medicine, materials, and in cultural rituals
and mythology (Szczawinski and Turner, 1978 80). People mainly consumed root vegetables and
green vegetables. Fruits, nuts, seeds, berries, and mushrooms were also traditionally used as a source
of food. Plants also contributed in the development of many different medicines throughout history.
Plant parts were often combined with herbs to create cures for many ailments. Herbal medicines were
sometimes associated with ritual and in many cultures herbal curing and ritual curing were often
performed together (Szczawinski and Turner, 1978 80). Plants have played a very important role in
helping to preserve the human race, from building our homes to supplying us with the most essential
gas we breathe.
Besides supplying humans with the oxygen necessary for respiration,

The areas of investigation were focused to the west of Douglass battery, chosen based on an 1804
watercolour painting by Edward Walsh (see figure 1). In the painting, three buildings are observed in
the background, which prompted the survey of the suspected area. A grid was set up in the area with
flags being placed at an interval of five meters. These intervals were test pitted down to the subsoil
and the contents screened through mesh. The test pits, which revealed building material, were used to
co ordinate three different areas that would be excavated. Units were placed within each of these three
spaces, laid in a way to maximize the area that would be covered. Areas one and three were supervised
by teaching assistants Katie Anderson and Duncan Williams, while area two was under the supervision
of Dr. John Trigs. All soil that was removed was screened through wire mesh and artifacts were placed
in plastics bags with the provenience labeled on the front. The season lasted six weeks, beginning
from May 11th, to June 5th 2015. At the end of the season, all units were backfilled with soil, with
plastics sheets being placed in specific units to protect features.

Essay about Seal Hunting in Atlantic Canada
The annual hunt of harp seals (Pagophilus groenlandicus) in Atlantic Canada is contested at the start
of nearly every season, with celebrities, politicians, and the public actively weighing in on the matter.
Within all of the dialogue and debate, there can be a lot of bias and misrepresentation of facts
advocating for or against the seal hunt. Thus, the true sustainable aspects of the industry are drowned
out and lost due to the sheer amount of controversy surrounding the issue. Sustainability entails
meeting the needs of today without sacrificing the needs of the future ( Sustainable Development 1).

Contemporary dishes like seal flipper pie have also contributed to the cultural identity of
Newfoundland society. As a result of these strong cultural ties, commercial and subsistence sealing
continues to exist through legal policy by demand from both government and society. The policies that
govern seal hunting are based on a sustained yield principle that does not compromise the harvest for
future generations, and are thus in accordance with sustainable aspects of resource development.
Economic benefits gained from the seal hunt include an increase in trading relationships for Canada
and the stimulation of the provincial economy of Newfoundland and Labrador. As reported by the
Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the total landed value of the seal harvest for 2006 was $34.3
million dollars ( Market 1). This figure represents a historic high, when market prices per pelt were
favourable. Regardless, the money brought in from seal hunting is said to have a trickle down effect
on other sectors of the economy ( Market 1). Canada has historically been the leading exporter of seal
products in the global marketplace, and had exported over $70 million in product between 2005 and
2011 ( Market 1) Nationally, the seal hunt has enabled Canada to forge new trading relationships in
the international community, as evidenced by a 2011 deal between Canada and China. The

Essay about PCI Compliance
What is PCI Compliance?
PCI Compliance is maintaining adherence to the PCI DSS standard that was developed by major
credit card companies as a guideline to help prevent credit card fraud ( PCI DSS ). Credit card fraud
has taken the spotlight in the past several years due to the massive growth of e commerce and online
transaction processing. With the proliferation of e businesses, it has become easier than ever to
commit fraud over the internet.

In September of 2006 the PCI Data Security Standard was updated to version 1.1 which is currently in
use today. The PCI Security Council works to promote the broad industry adoption of this standard,
and also generates tools to assist companies in complying with these standards. Some of the tools are
guidelines, scanning requirements, and even a self assessment questionnaire.
Before the PCI Security Council and Data Security Standard existed, each of the five credit card
issuers had their own internal extensive compliance policies. But vendors or merchants who wanted to
process more than one type of credit card would have to comply with requirements defined by each
card issuer. By coming together under the umbrella of the PCI Security Council these major brands
were able to codify their corporate standards into a public standard, and place pressure on
organizations that process credit transactions to protect cardholder data against fraud and theft.
The founding organizations not only developed this standard, but also incorporated these standards
into their own data security compliance programs. All five organizations share equally in governing
the council; have equal input regarding issues; and all the organizations share responsibility for
maintaining the PCI Data Security Standard.

A Good Man Is Hard To Find Grandmother Character Analysis
The grandmother who was not named in the Story A Good Man is Hard to Find, by Flannery O
Connor, had a larger than life personality and she likes to pass judgement on to others. This character
lived with her son Bailey, her daughter in law and her two grandchildren in the state of Georgia. The
grandmother is the main character in this story, she is smart, ladylike, judgmental, and the whole story
revolves around her.
My favorite character in the story is the grandmother. She brings out the characteristics of an old
southern woman. The first thing that grabbed my attention about this character is when she marked
down the mileage on the car. This shows her smartness and attentiveness. It is a unique trait and she
thinks ahead of everyone. The grandmother wrote this down because she thought it would be

Her persuasive power is weak at first when she told the family to cancel the trip to Florida and instead

plantation she visited when she was young and colored it into a beautiful place until the children
bought into to her idea. The back road they took led them into the hands of The Misfit and their

Essay On The Iron Age The Iron Age According to Toler (2012), now, in the twelfth century BCE, humans enter a new era of history, shaped by the first alphabet, the new idea of democracy, and a new metal that gives the era its Iron Age. Smelting iron will allow ordinary men to plow more fields, make new tools, and take arms against the military elite of mighty empires . (p. 49). The Iron Age paved the way for mankind; the transformation of landscapes, transformation in the way mankind thought, it aided in forging new connections, warfare and various discoveries and advances that came over time. What are the prices of video games in the United States? How are American and Japanese video games are different? There are similarities and differences in both cultures in video games. The history behind video games all started with theis console, invented was a rectangular brown cube with two attached controllers, and its name was Brown Box . Ralph H. Baer was the inventor of this console, which it was released in 1967. He made it to where it can be connected to any ordinary television set. • 4. Paradoxes of Power in Sociological Insight by Randall Collins Paradoxes of Power in Sociological Insight by Randall Collins It may be said that the institution of power has always been a prevalent force in our society. It is a large part of what holds society together; without it civilized society as we know it would not exist. The functions of power range from keeping crime at bay to the more commonplace aspects such as allowing patrons to be served in a restaurant. The notion of power is almost invisible until further analyzed; it is something that we perceive as being simple and therefore take for granted. Yet there are so many intricacies in regard to power that still remain to be seen. In Chapter Three of Sociological Insight by Randall Collins, the author ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet some forms of power are certainly more effective than others. The key to realizing power most effectively lies in the acknowledgement of occasional concession and knowing when to giv(e) in on something less important (74). For instance, once again consider the example of a mother and child. Assume that the child wants to go over to a friend s house to play, but he has promised his mother that he would do his chores that afternoon. The child begs his mother to let him go and play, assuring her that he will do his chores immediately upon arriving home. The mother concedes, and the child is happy. If we are to analyze this situation in terms of gains and losses, the mother has gained points with her son and has essentially suffered no loss the chores will still be done, only a few hours later. Throughout the entire scenario, the mother s power is evident, both explicit and implicitly; the son does not forget that his mother has the ultimate say in what he does, and in letting her son go she has not only made him happy but is also asserting her power as a parent. In sum, the mother has most effectively realized her power by knowing when to sacrifice something that is of lesser importance while gaining more long term benefits. Another way that power may be asserted is by the influences of certain situations, namely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Health Benefits And The Business Aspects Of The Beloved... Coffee My topic of choice is coffee. I personally drink a large amount of it everyday. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what I wanted my topic to be. Coffee is something I enjoy everyday and am curiosity about. At one time I wanted to open my own coffee shop. That dream is dead, but I still enjoy the beverage, often in a hip, public place surrounded by friends. I believe this topic will keep me focused and interested and enlighten me on current arguments and facts. I am interested in the health benefits and the business aspects of the beloved brew. I had an intention at one time of pursuing nutrition as a degree, so health information intrigues me. Currently, I am considering business as a degree plan. Researching the business aspect may help prepare me for that future and give me a glimpse at what business entails. On a humorous note, I know I will need large doses of caffeine to make it through my college career, so I would like to know my limits. I have read many times over the last few years that coffee is good for you. Others tell me often that it is not, to which I tell them it is, based on material I have read, but not researched. I do not recall much material stating that it is bad, but I know it is out there. Part of my research paper will be in pursuit of finding the facts about the health benefits and harms of the brew. From my limited reading in the past, I have learned that it naturally contains antioxidants that fight free radicals in your body, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. My Favorite Sport Essay If you can imagine one thing and one thing only that can change a way a person feels, how they think, and how they live, what would that thing be? For me I really couldn t answer that question, as a little kid who s only thought was to have fun, all I cared about was playing video games and watching cartoons. One day, my cousins came over to my house asking if they could watch something on the TV, I said sure, so they turned on the TV and put on a documentary. At first I was disinterested and wanted to go back to my usual habits, but I stayed and watched, I realized that the documentary contained the answer to my question and that answer was sports. Out of all the sports, basketball became my guidance, it spoke to me in a way where it wasn t just an interest, but a window of discovering who I am, what I love, and what I want to become. In that window of time I would watch every basketball game and practice my skills as a player. Watching NBA players give their hearts out to the game of basketball brought me joy as well as the confidence and determination to play and improve my skills to be just like them. My favorite player was Kobe Bryant because he would play every game at the highest level he could play at and he had a killer work ethic that a person would only dream of having. I would set an alarm at 10 a.m. to wake up and start practicing because all I wanted was to be the best at something that means so much to me. When I turned 10, my parents signed me up for a ... • 7. Perks Of Being A Wallflower Psychological Analysis Abstract Perks of Being a Wallflower is a film about a 15 year old teenager boy, Charlie, who deals with his first love, flashbacks of his Aunt and his own mental illness. Psychological background of Charlie gives shape to his current behavior. Actors made the film realistic. When Charlie had mental breakdown, Logan Lerman embraced its character wholeheartedly. However, the film is messy as the directors put together many psychological problems in one scene making it difficult to figure out the psychological patterns. It would have been better if the writers organized some of the scenes more carefully. On the other hand, the film is still the best among other psychological films based on teenagers. Introduction The purpose of the report is to arrive at some hypothesis about the main character Charlie, his behavior, personality and capabilities after doing some psychological research as the film was mainly based on him. Our major aim of this report is to understand how theories and concepts are applied to the main character Charlie in the film. The film focuses on the problems and diseases that teenagers face and they are unaware of it. For example, Charlie was suffering from mental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. Cellulosic Ethanol Cons It s not easy being green. This jeremiad of Kermit the Frog rings all too common in today s energy production crisis. Now more than ever the US needs its energy to be derived from natural, renewable resources. As George W Bush, an oil supporter, even stated, America is addicted to oil (Ratliff, 2012). It s now become evident to those in authoritative roles in the American government that oil will not be able to sustain our nation unceasingly. Attempts at funding alternative energy sources have included exploration of various types of ethanol sugar, corn and cellulose. Out of these three, the most promising is the possibility of ethanol derived from cellulose. Cellulosic ethanol is a source of energy from fibrous plant material that may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The composition may pose a problem, but the components are also valuable in that they are natural, renewable resources. Using natural resources instead of oil would lower the US s dependence on foreign oil. By lowering our oil intake from other countries, the US can reduce military spending that is directed at maintaining oil supplies, and instead spend this money on other costs for internal matters. In addition, most infrastructure is already formed to adapt to this ethanol. Most cars on the road in the US are Fuel Flex capable, so it would pose no needed change. Also, around the country there are about 2000 E85 spots available at gas stations. Overall, its energy output is 2 to 36 times the energy required to produce it. With more energy output, there is less fuel needed to be created (using less resources) and consumers will be able to pay less at the pump and instead use it for other expenses. Most notable, is the fact that using ethanol reduces 85 94% of emissions compared to oil. Reducing emissions will in turn lower the greenhouse effect, and lessen global warming effects (GreenTheFuture). In general, this matter is low costing or free. Municipal solid waste, which can be used, can even be subsidized to take, since normally it would have to be paid for for its disposal in a landfill. By using non edible fuel crops and municipal solid waste, consumer prices for groceries will not be driven upward, unlike corn, which uses farmland that otherwise would have been used for food production. Thus, corn drives up the price of food (Christian, Jan. 5, 2015). While opponents argue that it would require vast farming operations, meaning clearcutting in some cases, acquisition of ... • 9. Canterbury Tales Character Analysis The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer is a collection of stories referring to a group of pilgrims on a journey to the Canterbury Cathedral. Geoffrey Chaucer, the author was born in the year of 1343 in the beautiful city of London, and later died on October 25th in 1400. Geoffrey began his adulthood fighting for england in the Hundred Years War. After the war he pursued his passion in writing and English literature, beginning known as the Father of English . His favorite style was Vernacular Literature. He is also the first poet to be buried in Westminster Abbey s Poets Corner. Throughout the Pardoner s Tale he preaches about greed, drinking, blasphemy, and gambling but in the Pardoner s Prologue he admits to committing these sins himself. In the Tale itself the pardoner also condemns to people who drink and says, Witness the Bible, which is most express/That lust is bred of wine and drunkenness . Each character s tale is started with an introduction to the characters story, followed by their story, and then an epilogue, which wraps the story up... The characters tell the other characters the theme they will be addressing, and then the conclusion they can draw from that theme, Morality is a major theme present in these tales. The characters are introduced in a descending order of morality, where they are also split into three classes: the clergy, the nobility, and the peasants and commoners. The reason Chaucer uses social commentary when describing the characters in the prologue is for example the knights are supposed to be chivalrous and noble, but instead the chaucer describes his knights as such. The reason 29 men are on there way to the Canterbury Cathedral is to visit the Shrine of St. Thomas Becket. During their voyage they all share multiple stories, a bright idea is brought up to make a wager saying they will give a prize to the person who tells the best story. Geoffrey Chaucer, reexamines those who play a more stereotypical role in the book than others and help re create a new role for them to be twisted into society with. Chaucer discusses different stereotypes and separates his characters from the social norm by giving them highly ironic and/or unusual characteristics. Specifically, in the ... Mandatory Civil Service Year There are many views and oppinions on the upcoming plan to require all future U.S. high school graduates to spend one year in service to their country before college. Congress is supporting and pushing towards this decision. Many others, however, strongly disagree with this mandatory civil service year after high school. This high school, and many others in the area, also believe that this would be counterintuitive to have countless graduates leave their field of study, have to take away time from religious trips, and it would make serving in the the military less exceptional. This is based off of the greater speed that a person belly flops into the water (8.3 m/s2), which is more than both head first diving (7.73 m/s2) and rotating into the water (7.34 m/s2). Also, the amount of force that the water exerts on the body while doing a belly flop (1079 N) is greater than the amount of force the water exerts on the body while head first diving (1004.95 N) and rotating into the water (954.2 N). • 16. Analysis of The Wasteland by T.S. Eliot Essay Analysis of The Wasteland by T.S. Eliot Q5 Much of what Eliot writes about is harsh and bleak, but he writes about it in a way that is often beautiful . Comment fully on both parts of this assertion. Most first time readers of Eliot s work would, probably, agree that his poems read as bleak and depressing. They would also say that many of his poems portray society as having a terminal illness, but when we look deeper you can see that amid the anguish not all is lost and there is hope to be found among the ruins. The Wasteland , is an amalgamation of fragmented images that are disturbing and, yet, at times beautifully poetic. This reinforces Eliot s claim that, Genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood . The theme s that run throughout The Wasteland , such as sterility, isolation and death, are applicable to both the landscapes and the characters. When drawn together, it is these themes that give the poem structure and strength, and the use of myth mingled with historic, anthropological, religious and metaphysical images reinforce its universal quality. In part one The Burial of the dead , Eliot opens with a scene of isolation and desolation. April is the cruellest month #8230; which is an inversion of what spring represents, this being new life and hope. It is seen here as cruel because, for Marie, it stirs memories, which are no longer there and have led nowhere. He follows this image of isolation with an image of togetherness, Winter kept us warm, covering Earth in forgetful snow #8230; She recalls being free in the mountains, but freedom involves taking risks and she hesitates and goes south in the winter . Marie s memories portray the shallowness of the aristocracy and in many ways we are reminded of the ladies in Prufrock who come and go talking of Michael Angelo . There talking leads nowhere and so by implication their lives are meaningless and dead, as dead as the wasteland. The next stanza shifts to images of the dead land with clutching branches and roots. • 17. Chinoiserie s Influence On American Architecture Chinoiserie arose as a movement in response to the strict restraints of the Baroque style. More broadly, this public reaction is characterized as the Rococo style, which Louis introduced in his court in France around 1750. The Rococo style played with the imagination; whimsy, asymmetry and high contrast in both scale and color exemplify the art and architecture of the style. Chinoiserie grew out of the Rococo style as European became fascinated with the Far East, specifically intrigued by Chinese ceramics. The blue and white luster glaze pottery depicting imaginative accounts of Chinese life became incredibly popular in the late 18th century. • 18. Ecology Lab Report Ecology is the study of interaction between living organisms and nonliving environmental factors. The objective of the study is to determine the forest ecology of the Manor House by calculating the density, size, and diversity of the woodlot (Biology 214 Laboratory Handout). Diversity is the degree of the variability among the living organisms. It is important to study diversity because a larger variability of within a community will promote the productivity of an ecosystem. In addition, the knowledge of the number of individual organisms present in a population is important to ecologists. Many methods exist to quantify the numbers of individual organisms in a specific area. It is important to chose a measuring method that is most practical for the sampling area. The point quarter technique, developed by Cottan and Curtis, is widely used to estimate the area covered by an organism based on random samplings on specific areas. The sample area is chosen at random along a transect, relying on the random distribution of organisms in the area. From the random point, the area is divided into four quadrants and the point to plant distance is measured. From this measurement, species density, diversity and importance value can be calculated. • 21. Imaginary Companions In Child Development Essay Introduction Many children experience a common phenomenon known as the imaginary companion. This usually manifests itself in the creation of an invisible person that they engage in an active relationship with. While many parents are confused about how to approach and relate to their child and their child s imaginary companion they should be assured that the process is quite normal. Imaginary companions are not a sign of mental illness but a normal healthy part of a child s development (Taylor, 1999). Historical View of Imaginary Companions Early research on imaginary companions was deficit focused in nature Some of the earliest research around the beginning of the 1900 s viewed it as a sign of a psychological disorder (Vostrovsky, ... Imaginary companions may serve a variety of functions but the particular function they fulfill for each child depends on the wishes and needs of the one who creates them (Hart Zellars, 2006). How did imaginary friends get created? Starting from infancy children start with sensorimotor play which consists of only motor activity (Ungerer, Zelazo, Kearsley, O Leary, 1981). A young child that likes to shake a rattle to hear the sound is engaging in sensorimotor play. Infants also engage in imitation. Imitation is the replication of the activities of another when they can see the activity being done (Frahsek, Mack, Mack, Pfalz Blezinger Knopf, 2010). The child and the type of play they engage in will grows more complex as the child s development advances (Piaget, 1962). As the child grows a little older and starts into the preoperational stage they start engaging in symbolic play. One of the key evidence of being able to engage in symbolic play is by imitating the actions they see others doing after they cannot observe them being done (Fein, 1981). Imitating past behavior of others uses representational skills and is called deferred imitation (Vasta, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hormones are natural chemicals produced in one place, secreted into the bloodstream and then used by other organs and target systems. Hormones control the target organs. Some organic systems have their own internal control systems in place of the hormones or together with them. As we get older, natural changes occur in the way in which body systems are controlled. Some target tissues become less sensitive to the hormone that controls them. The amount of hormones produced can also change. The blood levels of some hormones increase, those of others decrease and those of some others remain unchanged. Hormones also break down (metabolize) more slowly. But as we age, we learn new things that perhaps we did not recognize before. People say that some things in life, you just never forget. This indeed is very true. Words can scar. Several summers ago I was at a friend s house playing volleyball with a few people. Does it bother you that you are so white? asked a girl who I did not even know. I simply kept playing volleyball. But soon after I established questions. Does it bother me? Should it bother me? I went home that day and glared at myself in the mirror. Then it struck me, I was whiter than most people were. This one stranger s comment made me question myself. I began to over analyze and as time passed by my self esteem plummeted. I thought that maybe if I had been born with sun kissed skin, my family and friends would not judge me. Then, I began wearing makeup to not look as sickly as people made me out to be. I developed a sudden yearning to go down to the shore all the time to try to get some type of color. But then one day, I studied my mom s face. Her smooth, glowing, and porcelain skin made me wonder. From ?Letter from Birmingham? a good logical claim, made by Martin Luther King Jr., supports and explains how his race was treated as inferior and being persecuted. He utilizes examples of how racial injustice became a huge problem. Antigone also provided facts for claims of civil disobedience and of how she was opposed to the law of leaving her brother left without a proper burial. Abstract: Our experiment is designed to show the symbiotic relationship between the mycorrhizal fungus and spinach plant. We constructed a 2X2 table of live molasses and controlled groups. Our hypothesis is that the live molasses with mycorrhizae group will extend the plants root bodies and increase the total surface area of the plant. That being said, the fungus and the plant will have a symbiotic mutual relationship towards each other. Our predictions came out to be false. The controlled groups had a higher average in shoot length and wet mass, which indicates that the plant and fungus have a parasitic relationship towards each other. Introduction: ... The controlled groups had higher averages than the lived averages. Also, the class averages were similar to our data as well. For future experiments, the plants with mycorrhizae should be given more molasses, which will allow us to detect if the plant and fungus have a symbiotic relationship or not. There have been many studies that provide mycorrhizae aiding plants for nutrients, proper growth, and survival. The Importance Of Plants In Human Life Plants are important life forms belonging to the taxonomic kingdom Plantae and are classified further by the hierarchical system to group similar plants together. Taxonomy is described as the method by which scientists, conservationists, and naturalists classify and organize the vast diversity of living things on this planet in an effort to understand the evolutionary relationships between them (Fenneman, 2017). How a plant is classified can be a clue to the uses for that plant in regards to human life. Historically, plants have played a vast role in the everyday lives of humans. Indigenous peoples have used over a thousand different plants for food, medicine, materials, and in cultural rituals and mythology (Szczawinski and Turner, 1978 80). People mainly consumed root vegetables and green vegetables. Fruits, nuts, seeds, berries, and mushrooms were also traditionally used as a source of food. Plants also contributed in the development of many different medicines throughout history. Plant parts were often combined with herbs to create cures for many ailments. Herbal medicines were sometimes associated with ritual and in many cultures herbal curing and ritual curing were often performed together (Szczawinski and Turner, 1978 80).
