Key Success Point Of Nirvana And Alice In Chains
Angst Anguish, key success points of Nirvana and Alice in Chains
Abstract In this essay we will focus on major key success points of two bands that took over the
world with their music and changed the perception of mainstream music. We re talking about
Nirvana and Alice in Chains, two bands that came from same town, year and music genre and yet
are completely different in their own respective ways. We re also going to shed a spotlight on
both band s frontmens: Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley, both considered to be the genius song
writers. We re going to compare their song writing through their most famous songs as well as
their vocal and instrument skills. I choose to do this topic because I ve always considered them a
major turn point ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think the major reason why Nirvana achieved a worldwide fame rather than just on America soil
like Alice in Chains lies in album Nevermind that Nirvana put out in 1991. That album was easy to
listen without losing any of its core Grunge values that could appeal to anyone. Alice in Chains as
I mentioned previously drew more inspiration from metal therefore their albums were usually
much darker and heavier to listen to which from a global point of view captured less listeners.
Nevermind was just genre defying as it sold over 10 million copies in America alone and won
the triple platinum. Nevermind is a good mix of slow, gloomy and mellow songs combined with
fast paced guitar riffs ending in strangling guitar solos that Kurt loved so much. Usage of soft
loud dynamics and heavy dose of insidious hooks is what makes this album shine. The last song
on this album is particularly interesting because it emphasizes that Cobain was making music
clearly for creative expression rather than more trivial reason like making money or building
fame. You can come to that conclusion by analyzing the song Something in the Way . It has a
very dark and haunting feel to it. Simple melancholic guitar plucks with a following soft bass line
combined with not surprisingly depressing lyrics and a cello on a top of that makes a song that
perfectly reflects despair,

Big Boy History
The Big Boy, a machine of immense size and power. It is among one of the most well known
locomotive classes ever built. The size of 85 feet (132 feet including tender.) the Big Boys (4 8
8 4) were behemoths, capable of pulling a massive amount of freight. So large was the Big Boys
that they were almost twice the size of a modern diesel electric engine. The Big Boys, however,
were practically two locomotives, joined together. This was called an articulated engine, meaning
it had two separate groupings of driver wheels, each set with its own piston. The engines were
often described as Mallet type articulated locomotives, however, a true Mallet has compound

The morning started out with a routine tour of duty, hauling 62 freight cars and a caboose. Little
did the crew know that down the mainline another event was unfolding. A track gang and a
foreman traveled by motorcar to pick up some switch ties. When the group arrived at Red
Desert, they were approached by a sheep herder, who needed assistance getting his sheep across
the tracks. The foreman assigned two men to flag each direction of track. He also ordered that
switch of each side of the passing track to be opened. (That means that the switch is in a middle
position, not thrown to either side, which will always lead to derailment.) This would cause the
signals to indicate a stop signal. As one of the men opened up the siding switch, he saw 4005
roaring down the track, the workman tried to close the switch before the engine could pass... it
was too late. The engineer applied the emergency brake, however, at the time 4005 was going
about 50 MPH (80 KPH). The engine, tender, and first 18 cars turned on its side, The massive and
near full tender smashed into the cab of 4005, destroying it completely. Although the engineer and
brakeman were killed instantly, the front brakeman survived the wreck and gave an account as to
what happened. The switch, they threw it right in front of us, they didn t give us a chance. I felt

The Risk Factors of Osteoarthritis Essay
OA has a complex pathology, with numerous environmental and genetic risk factors. Generally,
OA is thought to be caused by a complex interaction between environmental and genetic factors
(Valdes et al., 2009). A variety of epidemiological studies have demonstrated that genetic
susceptibility is a key regulator of OA aetiology (Peach et al., 2005). Genetic variations may
influence several OA risk factors, including obesity, skeletal shape, bone mass and synovitis
(Valdes et al., 2011a). Furthermore, it has been shown that generalized OA phenotype, sensitivity
to pain and disease progression may be also determined by genetic susceptibility (Valdes et al.,
2010a; van Meurs et al., 2009; Kerkhof et al., 2010).
In the 1940s familial clustering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
OA is generally recognized as a complex multi factor disease that has mostly small and modest
effect susceptibility loci (Reynard et al., 2012). Over the past decade efforts have been focused on
the search for loci that predispose to OA. The following approaches most often have been attempts
to provide insight into the complexity of OA genetics: genetic linkage studies (LA), genome wide
association studies (GWAS) and candidate gene studies.
LA exploits the fact that genes have a tendency to be inherited together because they are located
close to each other. After identification of a linkage, all genes in the linked region need to be
identified and in this manner candidate genes of interest for a disease can be established. LA has
been successful in localizing chromosomal regions containing highly penetrant genetic variants.
However, in a common disease, such as OA, the success of LA is very limited for a number of
reasons, including the low power of identification of genes with modest effects and the large impact
of environmental influences (Risch et al., 1996).
After the completion of the Human Genome Sequencing project, which provided the opportunity to
systematically search across the genome and to test large numbers of common genetic variants for
association with disease, GWAS have been successfully applied to the study of many complex
diseases. GWAS make it possible to examine the associations of thousands of

Social Classes In America Essay
The United States is often seen by many as a country of equal opportunity. A place where social
classes do not exist. Unfortunately, thoughts such as these are wrong because the US is far
from being the only country to escape this exception. When observed closely there are signs that
each person manifests that distinctively show what social class they belong to. Although
money is the most common marker of class, education along with health related topics such as
heart disease and eating habits are strong inicators of class. Throughout time one of the most
obvious class markers has been education and it still remains so. People who belong to the
higher classes view education as a higher priority and have more access to the best school in the
country. When stuck in lower classes people must attend schools where books, computers, and
education are not found at the same level. An article in the Atantic Times mentions that Kids
who belong to lower social classes fell behind children in the upper classes by about a year or so.
Today, that gap is close to four years. For those in the upper class their kids are placed in an
abundance of classes from an early age such as foreign language, art, and many sports. Children
who are in lower classes have no way of getting a head start when compared to children in higher
classes Sarah Garland also mentions how When children have plenty of time to build social skills
and bigger vocabularies in short term reduce their chances of

Horticulture Personal Statement
My interest in participating as a horticulture intern at The Polly Hill Arboretum is interwoven in
my desire to acquire hands on experience with plant material and expand my knowledge on what it
takes to manage and maintain an Arboretum. Polly Hill s devotion to education, plant conservation,

Landscape Architecture major at SUNY Collegeof Environmental Science and Forestry. The
practice of horticulture is fundamental in sustaining beautiful landscapes and I wish to develop that
notion through landscape maintenance and greenhouse/nursery management.

Life Of Pi Religion
Life of Pi is a fantasy adventure novel written by Yann Martel and published in 2001. The book
was adapted into a film in 2012 by director Ang Lee and David Magee. Life of Pi s protagonist is
an Indian boy named Piscine Molitor, or Pi. During the course of the novel, he explores issues of
spirituality and practicality at the early age of sixteen. The story was split into three sections. The
first section introduces the main character/narrator as an adult living in Canada. He reflects on his
life and describes his childhood in India. His father owned a zoo in Pondicherry, a small district in
southern India. The zoo led Pi to be quite comfortable around animals and to understand how they

Richard Owen, A Prominent Biologist
Richard Owen, a prominent biologist, however, suggested that the tracks found on Devon belong to
a badger that had been distorted by freeze thaw action16. Additionally, the biologist also pointed at
the possibility of the tracks belonging to rats, raccoons and swans that inhabited the Devon area at
the time of the appearance of the tracks. Owen argued that the small animals moved on haystacks
and wall constantly, thereby leaving a trail of tracks. However, this explanationis hard to believe and
is not supported by evidence. As a matter of fact, small animals like rats, raccoons and swans would
not like foot like prints on the surface of the snow. Rather, it would be expected that the tracks will
be continuous and not take any definite pattern since small animals like rats tend to move
haphazardly. Additionally, the animals being nominated here can all fit in four inch drainpipe,
effectively disapproving the argument that they must have caused the tracks that appeared on the
haystacks and wall in Devon.
Another suggestion that the majority have agreed upon is the suggestion that the tracks must have
been left by a Devonport Dockyard experimental balloon that was released by mistake and travelled
across Devon area following its mooring shackles17. However, this explanation is further from the
truth, considering how a balloon would naturally behave from the scientific point of view. As much
as the movement of the balloon would explain the shape of the prints, it is

The Pros And Cons Of HR Programs
1. Do such programs promote the use of alcohol or illicit drugs, or just limit the harm forced
upon society through the abuse of these chemicals? Depending on a person s point of view and
moral values there exists an argument for both sides of HR programs. On one hand, proponents
against HR programs may state that by promoting the means the ends will ultimately be met.
Allowing such programs to exist could be viewed as advocating for the very thing they are
attempting to eliminate from society. And they may very well be correct with their assumption:
Perhaps abstinence is the best policy. On the other hand, while proponents for HR programs seem
to have conceded defeat against some of the perils of society and accept the fact that substance
use and abuse, as well as other demoralizing acts are inevitable, this does not mean they have
given up hope of someday eliminating the problems altogether . The choice for HR programs may
appear to be a rationalization of sorts; accepting the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

continuation of HR programs. Lewis (2014) states, Progress means not just changing, but
changing for the better (p. 5). If HR programs assist people in minimizing their drug use or better
yet, completely eradicating it from their lives, or if HIV contractions can be minimized by the
employing of a needle exchange program, and if pregnancies can also be minimized due to a
condom distribution program, then I would have to say that this sounds like not just change, but a
change for the better. Turning a blind eye or expecting complete abstinence from both sex and
drugs users seems to be an unrealistic perspective to take which is why I am a proponent of the HR

What Makes Good People Do Bad Thing Analysis
Good vs. Evil is often seen by many people as the foundation to many conflicts. Many also often
assume that one side of a conflict is right and good, and the other wrong and evil. Good and evil
go hand in hand. Depending on the environment, good people can get caught up in some very bad
things. Good people do bad things because of desperation, religion, and peer pressure.
In the article What Makes Good People Do Bad Things by Melissa Dittmann it briefly explains the
Stanford Prison Experiment. Students took the role of being either a guard or prisoner. During the
experiment the guards began to abuse their power and take advantage of the prisoners. Many of the
prisoners had emotional breakdowns. This experiment showed that any human being can quickly
submit to evil in the right environment. What pushes good people to their limit to do evil choices?
With the right environment even the holiest people who got to church every Sunday, pay their
tithes, don t steal, and treat others the way they want to be treated can do evil things.
Being desperate is a cause of making good people commit evil choices. Being desperate can leave
you feeling tired and hopeless. Desperation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

individuals to stay focused and work hard towards achieving their goals. These are all good points,

Most pests are adapted for either outdoor or indoor living. However, when searching for a mate, an
easy meal, a secure place for depositing their eggs or a nurturing environment, outdoor pests will
sometimes find their way inside your home or business. Sometimes, these pests are temporary and
quickly return to the wild, but at other times, they find themselves too content to leave. Pest control
professionals refer to these types of pests as occasional invaders. In Florida, you might find yourself
contending with the following occasional invaders.
Earwigs
Earwigs are small; adults usually have a body length of about 0.5 inch. Their legs are light brown,

When agitated or threatened, they can emit a very foul smelling spray. Palmetto bugs prefer warm,
humid climates, so when they wander indoors, they typically shelter in unused or infrequently
used areas; you may find them in utility rooms or around water heaters. Outdoors, they tend to
make their homes in the holes of trees, under piles of leaves or beneath boards. In color, they are
dark brown with black hues, but if they have molted recently, they may appear reddish brown.
Other Occasional Invaders
There are several different types of ants that may invade your home or business, but in Florida, the
most common types are carpenter ants, red imported fire ants, pharaoh ants and pavement ants.
Because different types of ants require different treatments, it is always best to consult a reputable,
experience pest control company if ants invade.
A few types of spiders prefer to make their permanent homes inside human structures, but outdoor
spiders sometimes come inside to look for a mate or when food is in short supply. In Florida, the
most common outdoor spiders that may occasionally invade are jumping spiders, wolf spiders
and black widows; there have been a few isolated instances of brown recluse spiders reported. Of
these four types, only the black widow and the brown recluse pose any health

The Politics of Highly Radioactive Waste Disposal Essay
The Politics of Highly Radioactive Waste Disposal
Nuclear waste disposal is a political problem, not a technical problem.1
Dr. Edward Teller
Highly radioactive waste disposal has become one of the most controversial aspects of nuclear
technology. As the amount of spent nuclear fuel from commercial nuclear reactors and high level
radioactive waste from defense related processing plants has continued to mount, the issue has
become increasingly contentious and politicized.2 The politicization of this issue is especially
evident in the site selection process of a permanent national repository for the disposal of highly
radioactive waste.
Paradoxically, as the need for action has become more acute, the conflict generated by ... Show

The following year, after environmental impact assessments were conducted by DOE, the list was
narrowed to five potential locations (Richton Dome, Mississippi; Yucca Mountain, Nevada; Deaf
Smith County, Texas; Davis Canyon, Utah; and, Hanford, Washington).5 Finally, in 1986, DOE
narrowed the field to three sites: Yucca Mountain, Nevada; Deaf Smith County, Texas; and Hanford,
Washington. The fact that each of these locations had a prior involvement with nuclear technology
probably contributed to their selection since DOE likely concluded that any opposition to
establishing a radioactive waste repository would be muted.6 The site selection process in the East
was even more difficult. As Michael Kraft, Professor of Environmental Studies, points out:
Controversies similar to those in the West emerged during the second siting process in the East.
In January 1986, DOE announced that 12 locations in seven states in the upper Midwest and East
had been selected from its original list of 235 potential sites in seventeen states. Once again DOE
defended its choices in terms of the official siting guidelines....That process led to a proposal to
study further the final sites in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Maine, New Hampshire, Virginia, Georgia,
and North Carolina....Intense public opposition and fears of political repercussions in an election

Christian Church Intellect
When I read that I was supposed to detail the role of the intellect in a Christian life well lived, I
interpreted that to mean the responsibilities of the intellect in the Christian community and beyond.
Throughout the Christian faith, various members of the church attempt to use their differing gifts
to help others surrounding them. I firmly believe that intellects have received the spiritual gifts of
Leadership, Teaching, and Serving, as described in Romans 12:6 8. Using these gifts, intellects hold
an important role throughout both the Christian church, and the secular community alike. The first
question I needed to answer for myself to better approach this essay was what, in fact, an
intellectual could be defined as. I do not necessarily... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Leadership, which is defined as the action of leading a group of people or an organization, works
hand in hand with both gifts of Teaching and Serving, as a similar mindset must be used with each
gift to most effectively utilize it. Through these endowments, intellects should strive to use their
depth of understanding of scripture and Biblical teachings to share these lessons with others, lead
others in understanding the lessons by leading by example, and relate these lessons in a way that
those outside of the faith could disclose in their own lives. Teaching those in the faith to better
understand scriptures and commandments is crucial to an intellect using their spiritual
responsibilities to better themselves and the church. Although individuals may not always feel like
direct leadership may be their strength, they may exhibit leadership in other forms, such as
advising those more gifted to physically lead. Serving others can be seen through the practice of
the other two spiritual gifts as by fulfilling their duty as an intellect, an individual is assisting others

Charles W. Chestnutt s The Marrow of Tradition
Clearly, one can expect differing critical views of a novel; from the
author s perspective we see one view, from a publisher s another, and from
the reviewer s yet another. This is especially true of Charles W.
Chesnutt s The Marrow of Tradition. If one observes both the contemporary
reviews of the novel and letters exchanged between Chesnutt and his
friends and publisher, Houghton, Mifflin, and Co., one will see the
disparity in opinions regarding the work. Chesnutt himself felt the work

Reflecting upon the title of this essay, The American People Are Too
Sensible to Waste Their Time Upon Such Silly Rot, taken from the review of
The Marrow of Tradition by Katherine Glover, it is interesting to note
that the novel did receive a certain amount of public success. Chesnutt
revealed the popularity of the novel to daughter Ethel in October of its
publication year (prior to the reviews cited here). The line from Glover s
review is obviously a mean spirited attack by a racist reviewer, and is
ultimately ironic in that it did not accurately depict the sentiments of
the reading public. And in a series of letters to Booker T. Washington
Chesnutt expresses his belief that the novel has helped him to arrive as
a popular novelist. He also notes the probable popularity of the novel in
a letter to his publisher in November 1901.
All of the reviews presented here, and Chesnutt s own letters, bring to
light the sometimes apparent gap between what is achieved in the realm of
quality and what is achieved in purpose. Clearly, with few exceptions,
The Marrow of Tradition was perceived as a purpose novel, one which

Oftentimes, it takes something more powerful than us, something that floats on a higher cloud to
humble our senses and show us just how small and insignificant we really are to the vast realm
beyond what is Earth. In this rare case, all the authority begins within a single compact toy brick.
Legos: ancient little colorful pieces of plastic that have been around for over eight decades. Even
though they have been present, unchanged, and accessible for so long, below the surface of simple
construction, they hold the ability to prepare one for the real world.
Unlike the idealistic Barbie and her party going, way too perfectly fitted image of what all little
girls hope life turns out to be, legos are genuinely realistic. In the mindset of a lego builder, there
are several different phases. There is hopefulness, anticipation, excitement, frustration, and just

The Myth Of Sisyphus
With everything going on with the upcoming presidential election, the political community has

Both of these topics have a lot to do with manipulation and deception. With politics especially,
people today have a lot of opinions on the dynamics of that community. They both deal with
continuous repetition and constantly giving your all to make accomplish a task. What is interesting

Bags come in boxes that manufacturers use for shipping via small package delivery to a
fragmented base of retail customers. But shoes ship to retailers in bulk packaging rather than
individual boxes ( (Laseter, Rabinovich, Huang, 2006)). So when companies like eBags use drop
ship order process, there is an additional shipping cost to the manufacturer to repackage shoes and
ship shoes to the customer. Shoes have a short product life cycle and also suffer a high return rate.
Some customers order more than one pair with an idea to return the pair that does not fit. Thus
shoes carry a much higher cost to serve and selling them online requires a different business model.
A comparison of a potential acquisition candidate for eBags in footwear, Shodeni, shows that the
SKU count is very high for shoes compared to luggage or bags and eBags should be extremely
efficient if it has to handle that high SKU. eBags should add call centers to handle calls from
customers in addition to support through the website. They should continue with the strategy of
having manufacturers send the shipment directly to the customer.
European Expansion:
The European market was considered to be just as highly fragmented as the US Market and
luggage retailers mainly consisted of small, family owned stores with many limitations. These

School Worksheets
It was a warm September day, when I just had jumped off the bus outside of McDole Elementary.
All the little kids got off the bus first so the older kids didn t trample us. Everyone on the bus
was excited for school. All the teachers were outside the school holding up signs by the doors
waiting for their class. I was trying to find the blue sign because that was the color of my bus tag.
When I finally found my teacher she took us inside to class. We started the day by sitting in a
circle in the middle of the room and introducing our selfs. Then we found our seats and put our
backpacks, and lunches away. She then announced we should start following a map around the
classroom with a partner or alone. Following the map activity... Show more content on

figuring out what the word problem is the hard part. Then in class we changed seats because it was
the end of the month and every month she wanted us to switch seats. I ended up sitting right
next to Jordan, we had a lot of fun siting by each other. Finally we started hanging out at recess. It
was funny because I knew the people she hung out with from girl scouts. Jordan and I became great

Voice In The Woman Warrior
In Maxine Hong Kingston s novel, The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood Among Ghosts,
one of the central themes of the novel is voice. In the novel Kingston through voice is able to
break away from the silence that she is bound by culture and it set to discover a voice for herself.
Through this novel Kingston is able to give a voice to disadvantaged females who are voiceless by
empowering them to find their own personal voice and self identities. The theme of voice is
prevalent throughout the novel and is exemplified as a cultural and emotional struggle as Kingston

Throughout the book, To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout demonstrates maturity in a number of

the novel, Boo Radley is addressed. Rumors have floated around, referring to Boo as a

The Practicality Of Network Security
Introduction: As a concept, the practicality of Network Security includes using activities designed
to protect a user s network. Specifically, the core aim for this security is to protect the usability,
reliability, integrity, and safety of data on that network. In Network Securitythere are numerous
applications and software programs that are used by individuals which perform their own roles in
securing network data. The most common and possibly the most essential application used to
protect network data is known as a firewall. A firewall is a program that is designed to act as a
barrier between an external network and the users. It is fundamentally designed to stop hackers,

Looking toward the future with the exponential evolution in technology, it is key to gather a
more in depth and analytical study of the methodologies involved in firewall systems.Observing
the current direction of firewall development can provide an idea of the improvements that can
be made to keep up with an ever expanding technological society; especially as more and more
people are being exposed, uneducated, to the dangers of the internet. Aim: By taking a look at
the average household or business building, it is realised that a common aspect of their basic
structure is the physical security mechanisms in place. These are in place to protect the privacy
and integrity of what the owner possesses within. In terms of a network, this concept of
preventing unauthorised access of one s property is just as valid. However, in the situation of a
network, a firewall is used as this prevention security system. The idea is simple; a user may have
stored, on their network, a certain amount of private data that is personal to them or their business.
Thus, a firewall is put in place in order to prevent anything or anyone that does not have
authorisation from accessing any of this data. If an unknown and potentially dangerous individual
were to try to get into a building complex, the physical security appliances would react and prevent
this from happening. A firewall works the same way; however it deals with potentially harmful
packets entering the network. These packets are

While we all would agree that racism is immoral and has no place in a modern society, that was
not the case in the U.S. in the 1940s. At the time African Americans were treated as second class
citizens, it was made near impossible for them to vote, and they were discriminated in many
ways including in education, socially and in employment. It was a time in which segregation
and racism perforated the laws and society, a time in which African Americans were separate but

The stance that is taken in the court to criminalize Jefferson is detrimental because they make
Jefferson lose his dignity as a man. Jefferson is compared to something that is seen as a rodent,
and taking such a stance makes Jefferson lose all the hope that he has. When the defense
referred to Jefferson as a boy and not a man, jefferson was being talked down by the side that was
supposed to be his own. This a Man? No, not I. I would all it a boy and a fool (Gaines 7).
Jefferson is being talked to like a boy, a fool. It is implied that he is inexperienced and he didn t

defense compares Jefferson to a hog, he is saying that Jefferson is just as insignificant. It s
dehumanizing in that Jefferson is made out to be an insignificant low life. Jefferson s defence is
getting a point across, but it s not the right one because I don t want them to kill no hog, she said.

Overpopulation And Overconsumption
Overpopulation has been correlated to some of the most overwhelming problems in the world
today. Population growth has been increasing dramatically for if humans have existed, but as of
more recently have been increasing more dramatically. Many theorists such as Thomas Malthus and
the Cornucopians made attempts to try to better understand the trend of overpopulation. Both had
very different views towards if populationgrowth was a negative or positive effect on consumption.
The true question to both is whether overpopulation or overconsumption is a bigger factor that
leads to the environmental problems that are present today. While it could be said, population is
growing at an exponential rate, overconsumption is the true problem of what is leading to resource
scarcity. Both problems can be assessed more accurately using real world market based and
governance approaches. Many theories have been connected to how scarcity is related to either
overpopulation or overconsumption. One of the main arguments for overpopulation and
overconsumption was created by Thomas Malthus. Malthus stated that population grew
exponentially and food sources were linearly growing by nature (Robins et al. 2014). By this
accord, consumption would deteriorate the supply of food since the rates are so much more for
population growth. While the argument seems sound mathematically, Malthus fails to incorporate
the political or economic attributes contributing to consumption. Malthus also failed to

Online Classroom Vs. Traditional Brick And Mortar Classroom
The first distinction between learning in an online classroom versus that of a traditional brick
and mortar classroom is that of time. Students log into their virtual classroom at times of their
choosing to learn and complete assignments. The virtual campus that we use has click functions
that are set up like a regular classroom. These functions mimic interactions between course
facilitators and students in traditional settings. V camp has an announcements section like a
bulletin board on a campus. We receive short notices from the facilitator such as reminders,
updates to schedules or other need to know information that doesn t require an email campaign
from the faculty. The attend section allows you watch your professor or facilitator deliver the
lesson in lecture format. This, in particular, will remind traditional learning students of sitting in
a classroom. One thing that is good about a recorded lecture is you can immediately replay a
section that you failed to understand and gain the knowledge that you require which may have
been missed in a regular classroom setting. The profiles section allows you meet your classmates
and see if any live near you to see if you can study together. The discuss section of the program
lets you carry on open dialogue with your classmates. Each student is required to answer the same
question regarding a section of the course in a certain format and reply to two other classmate s
posts. This requirement allows for a dialogue between

Similarities Between Emma And Homa

who she then manipulate to get what she wants. We see this even in the pharmacist HomaГЇs who

to be like nobility. The difference between these two is that Emma as a woman must reach this

This we can see in Charles s mother, she controls his life and live their own dreams through him,
something that probably even Emma would do if she had a son. The thought of giving birth to a
male creature was like a revenge for all her disappointed expectations and a hope for the future
(p.91). In this powerful quote we see her disappointment at being a woman in the bourgeoisie
because of the lack of freedom. The woman is pinioned and lives by man. Emma becomes a mother
from turning because of this. She baptized her daughter by a woman she met at the marquis prom
and this suggests Emma fixation of the nobility.
An important aspect of Flaubert s criticism is that Emma and HomaГЇs are similar in that they both
want to be like the nobility and both like art, Emma plays the piano, read poetry, and like to write,
HomaГЇs writing a book, but they still contrasts with each other strong. The author argues then that

Examples Of Pathos In Medea
Euripides s Medea is a Greek tragedy set in fifth century BC Athens that depicts the plotting of
Medea s revenge, who herself was wronged and betrayed by her husband. Like other tragedies, we
can see that emotions are at the heart of Medea. These emotions are resonant and altruistic such
that we feel for other people who have no direct connection with us nor belong in the same world.
This ability to evoke the outgoing emotion in the audience opposed to an introverted self
absorption view is characteristic of Greek tragedy. Similarly, Euripideshandles the complexity of
his characters, supplying an element of pathos to his audience in the process. From the cries of
Medea lamenting on the injustice suffered by her, to her dilemma over the... Show more content on

An essential point to note is that like Medea, Jason cannot be labeled as a typical villain with
only evil thoughts. It is revealed that his desire to marry the princess was nothing about the
princess . Instead, it was to protect (Medea) and to father some royal sons , ultimately for
security . Just like Medea, Jason is too a victim of the forces of human nature and society shown
through his desire to climb the social ladder through marriage. He was not a heartless villain but
instead, he still cares for Medea and his sons. Hence, this makes the final scene when Jason arrives
after his sons infanticide even more striking in its pathos. It is interesting to note at this point,
Euripides employs deus ex machina to save Medea from the consequence of her crimes through
the escape in Helios s dragon chariot. Jason is hence left on stage alone and appears to be
completely defeated emphasised by the image of a triumphant Medea in the chariot. He is left
childless and his bride gone along with his dreams of power. Euripides hence effectively builds up
to this scene through the application of the deus ex machina and the handling of Jason s character.
Ultimately, this evokes strong pathos as his lone figure left on stage leaves a lasting impression on

The Discovery Of Pearl Harbor
Connor Baird
Pearl Harbor
Introduction
Pearl Harbor is a very important event in history because it affected the whole world by bringing
the United States into WWII, and also changed the way the United States viewed their enemies. On
December 7, 1941 one of the worst attacks ever on the United States occurred. More than 3,000
people lost their lives or were injured that morning, and the attack propelled us into war against the
Axis Powers. Through the terrible misjudgement of numerous U.S. military personnel, the Japanese
were able to carry out this terrible attack, which crippled the United States Pacific Fleet in the
Naval base Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
History
On December 7, 1941, one of the biggest disasters in United States history occurred. Truthfully, this
was and is, A date which will live in infamy. (Costello), but for the trickery used by the Government
and Franklin D. Roosevelt. To him this was a game of strategy and self defense. Roosevelt
sacrificed over 2400 American naval soldiers lives, thanks to his power as Commander in Chief
of the Armed Forces. By over looking the facts of an attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor, he
was able to control both the political and economic systems of the United States. Most of
American life before the Pearl Harbor bombing believed in the idea of not participating in political
or economic relations with other countries. The only way United States countrymen would stand up
and fight in what was know as then as Europe s War.

Scott Parker can utilize Adam s equity theory to persuade Mrs. Abravanel to support the merger.
The equity theory in essence is when individuals seek to maintain equity based on the inputs
they produce and the outcomes they receive from their inputs as compared to others perceived
inputs and outcomes. A balance between inputs and outputs is strived for because it leads to
fairness and improved relations. Mrs. Abravanel s opposition to the merger could be because of
a perceived unfairness based on the efforts her husband put into to bringing the Utah Symphony
up to world class stature. Mrs. Abravanel sees the symphony as the dominant party in the merger.
This is apparent by Mrs. Abravanel s statement, Maurice would never take second billing to

alleviate some of the financial stress the symphony is facing and increase the success and

Massachusetts Department of Correction (MA DOC) defines a recidivist as any criminally
sentenced inmate released to the street from MA DOC jurisdiction who is re incarcerated in a
Massachusetts state, county or a federal facility for a new criminal sentence. (mass.gov). In FY
2014 it costs about $53,040.87 to house an inmate in Massachusetts and with an average of 10,000
inmates incarcerated or in pre release programs that s an astonishing $530,408,700 (a little over 1/2
billion dollars) of taxpayer dollars funding incarcerationin Massachusetts. Also,... Show more

These movements can be classified as a reform movement. Reform movements pursue changes that
will implement the existing value scheme more adequately. Reform because the pro prison reform
initiatives aim at allocating funding from prisons and jails to education, rehabilitation, and job
skill programs that actually save the society billions of dollars a year and educate felons so they
are most likely not to reoffend. Most of the recidivists are of African American or Hispanic
ethnic background and between the ages of 17 25 and lack education and or skills needed to
meet our labor force. With the cost of an average inmate at $53,000 in MA versus the $20,000
average cost of participating in rehab programs aimed at deterring criminally aimed lives. The
clash over resources and values is what struck this growing social change for recidivism. Resources
being monetary factor in incarceration and the value of prison. We incarcerate and place people
in the same environment we are trying to release them from and they have no institutional
programs aimed at solving this issue of recidivism. The value as pointed out by the federal
government is the notions that if the government doesn t start hiring felons or ex cons how do
they suppose that others will take on the same practice. No one left behind is the model of the
USA and is the main reason that we cant outcast our felons. President Obama issued an executive
order to combat this social problem demanding that all federal agencies are prohibited of asking
for ones criminal record before the offer of employment. Only when a job is offered, is the time
when a felon is supposed to disclose such information. This will lead us into a new era of reducing
recidivism as a society and lower crime rate in urban areas of the States. It is the role of the
government to lead such initiatives so that other local and state governments take head and

Leasing vs Purchasing
Report on Leasing vs. Purchasing The benefits of leasing Computer equipment vs. purchasing
Summary
The company needs to upgrade its computer equipment. There are two upgrade paths to consider.
In this proposal, we demonstrate how equipment leases take advantage of the benefits of reduced
depreciation and taxation, easy scalability, reduction of IT staff usage, reduced energy costs, and
reduction of capital spending. The company can free up money overall and maintain better control
of the IT budget by leasing. The cost of equipment is spread out over a 3 year period by leasing.
There are no disposal fees because the leasing company will be responsible for the equipment
leased. By replacing the current sever setup ( the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

financing in some cases up to 100% of the acquisition cost when bank credit is scarce. And turnkey
leasing programs roll the acquisition, maintenance, upgrading and reselling of equipment into one
package. [ (Couretas, 1997) ]

The proposal is to lease the IT equipment using one of the companies in the illustration fig 3. We
have spoken to the customer account representatives of the leasing companies. They are all very
eager to schedule a consultation meeting with upper management and the IT department heads. [
(Leasing can help manage changing technology, 1997) ]
Computer technology evolves rapidly. There is a distinct advancement year to year. Computers
handle more processing power, use less energy, and depreciate like rocks falling off Pike s Peak.
Leasing helps prevent obsolescence. It offers an opportunity to upgrade equipment for a fraction of
the cost of purchasing. With better equipment, the company stays ahead of the IT curve and
improves on productivity from all departments that utilize the in house private network. IT
equipment has an expected useful life of five to eight years.

Gung-Ho Movie
Executive Summary Gung Ho was a comedy movie released by Parliament Pictures in 1986. The
title of the movie is actually a Chinese expression for work together . The main story portrayed the
takeover of an American automobile plant by a Japanese automobile manufacture Assan Motors
Company. As the Japanese executives began to work with their American colleagues, its successful
experience and advanced business concepts and ethics are brought to the United States. In the
meanwhile, the cross cultural conflicts and misunderstandings also occurred because of the clash of
different cultures, values, and work attitudes between Japanese executives and American executives
and workers. However, at the end of the movie, the workers and management... Show more content

Before the softball game between Assan s Japanese employees and American employees,
Japanese employees demonstrate their affective relationship among in group members from the
their interaction during the warm up exercise before the softball game; in contrast, an out group
member is a person with whom there is no recognized relationship, often a stranger . The
divergent relationships between Japanese supervisors and American workers as well as Hunt
can be a perfect demonstration of in group and out group memberships. Power Distance United
States is ranking as the small power distance or individualism for the reason that every American
worker is being treated equally in despite of different positions. Western countries would like to
see how each individual participate in the job and disregard of the hierarchy. In contrast, Japanese
organizations tend to have large power distance as there is a large dissimilar treatment in different
level of positions. Managers are always showing their power and apply their authorities to their
employees. As showed in the movie, Japanese executives such as Kazuhiro frequently use
autocratic style to make decisions that he considers to be right. In addition, when Kazuhiro
received phone call from his boss, he was very modest and obedient during the

Essay On My Fieldwork Experience At Jefferson Elementary...
Introduction
Receiving an early childhood degree utilizes nearly one hundred and twenty hours of college
education. While I have attended many college classes, none have taught me quite like my
fieldwork experience did. No book or lecture could fully prepare me for situations in the classroom.
Jefferson elementary displayed positive insight to an elementary classroom, such as different
teaching styles, personalities, administration and learning disabilities. I learned that fieldwork is
more than just getting the hours to pass college classes; Jefferson Elementary gave me direct
interaction with teachers and students. Observing an active class taught, challenged and exposed
me to valuable situations.
Jefferson Elementary School
I received the opportunity to observe at Jefferson Elementary School. The school is located in
Jefferson, Georgia and educates children from pre kindergarten to second grade. Jefferson
Elementary School strives to supply the children with the best education and learning environment
possible. The school consists of mainly Caucasian students. 628 students, or 76.9% of the student
population at Jefferson Elementary School identify as Caucasian, making up the largest segment of
the student body. (Jefferson Elementary School in Jefferson, Georgia) I volunteered from 8:00 AM
to 12:30 PM in a first grade environment. I invested just over forty hours in the classroom this fall,
spending a majority of my Tuesdays and Thursdays at Jefferson Elementary. During

  • 2. Key Success Point Of Nirvana And Alice In Chains Angst Anguish, key success points of Nirvana and Alice in Chains Abstract In this essay we will focus on major key success points of two bands that took over the world with their music and changed the perception of mainstream music. We re talking about Nirvana and Alice in Chains, two bands that came from same town, year and music genre and yet are completely different in their own respective ways. We re also going to shed a spotlight on both band s frontmens: Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley, both considered to be the genius song writers. We re going to compare their song writing through their most famous songs as well as their vocal and instrument skills. I choose to do this topic because I ve always considered them a major turn point ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think the major reason why Nirvana achieved a worldwide fame rather than just on America soil like Alice in Chains lies in album Nevermind that Nirvana put out in 1991. That album was easy to listen without losing any of its core Grunge values that could appeal to anyone. Alice in Chains as I mentioned previously drew more inspiration from metal therefore their albums were usually much darker and heavier to listen to which from a global point of view captured less listeners. Nevermind was just genre defying as it sold over 10 million copies in America alone and won the triple platinum. Nevermind is a good mix of slow, gloomy and mellow songs combined with fast paced guitar riffs ending in strangling guitar solos that Kurt loved so much. Usage of soft loud dynamics and heavy dose of insidious hooks is what makes this album shine. The last song on this album is particularly interesting because it emphasizes that Cobain was making music clearly for creative expression rather than more trivial reason like making money or building fame. You can come to that conclusion by analyzing the song Something in the Way . It has a very dark and haunting feel to it. Simple melancholic guitar plucks with a following soft bass line combined with not surprisingly depressing lyrics and a cello on a top of that makes a song that perfectly reflects despair, ... So large was the Big Boys that they were almost twice the size of a modern diesel electric engine. The Big Boys, however, were practically two locomotives, joined together. This was called an articulated engine, meaning it had two separate groupings of driver wheels, each set with its own piston. The engines were often described as Mallet type articulated locomotives, however, a true Mallet has compound expansion, the steam was used to power the locomotive in multiple ways, while the Big... Little did the crew know that down the mainline another event was unfolding. A track gang and a foreman traveled by motorcar to pick up some switch ties. When the group arrived at Red Desert, they were approached by a sheep herder, who needed assistance getting his sheep across the tracks. The foreman assigned two men to flag each direction of track. He also ordered that switch of each side of the passing track to be opened. (That means that the switch is in a middle position, not thrown to either side, which will always lead to derailment.) This would cause the signals to indicate a stop signal. As one of the men opened up the siding switch, he saw 4005 roaring down the track, the workman tried to close the switch before the engine could pass... it was too late. Generally, OA is thought to be caused by a complex interaction between environmental and genetic factors (Valdes et al., 2009). A variety of epidemiological studies have demonstrated that genetic susceptibility is a key regulator of OA aetiology (Peach et al., 2005). Genetic variations may influence several OA risk factors, including obesity, skeletal shape, bone mass and synovitis (Valdes et al., 2011a). Furthermore, it has been shown that generalized OA phenotype, sensitivity to pain and disease progression may be also determined by genetic susceptibility (Valdes et al., 2010a; van Meurs et al., 2009; Kerkhof et al., 2010). OA is generally recognized as a complex multi factor disease that has mostly small and modest effect susceptibility loci (Reynard et al., 2012). Over the past decade efforts have been focused on the search for loci that predispose to OA. The following approaches most often have been attempts to provide insight into the complexity of OA genetics: genetic linkage studies (LA), genome wide association studies (GWAS) and candidate gene studies. LA exploits the fact that genes have a tendency to be inherited together because they are located close to each other. After identification of a linkage, all genes in the linked region need to be identified and in this manner candidate genes of interest for a disease can be established. LA has been successful in localizing chromosomal regions containing highly penetrant genetic variants. However, in a common disease, such as OA, the success of LA is very limited for a number of reasons, including the low power of identification of genes with modest effects and the large impact of environmental influences (Risch et al., 1996). After the completion of the Human Genome Sequencing project, which provided the opportunity to systematically search across the genome and to test large numbers of common genetic variants for association with disease, GWAS have been successfully applied to the study of many complex diseases. GWAS make it possible to examine the associations of thousands of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unfortunately, thoughts such as these are wrong because the US is far from being the only country to escape this exception. When observed closely there are signs that each person manifests that distinctively show what social class they belong to. Although money is the most common marker of class, education along with health related topics such as heart disease and eating habits are strong inicators of class. Throughout time one of the most obvious class markers has been education and it still remains so. People who belong to the higher classes view education as a higher priority and have more access to the best school in the country. When stuck in lower classes people must attend schools where books, computers, and education are not found at the same level. An article in the Atantic Times mentions that Kids who belong to lower social classes fell behind children in the upper classes by about a year or so. Today, that gap is close to four years. For those in the upper class their kids are placed in an abundance of classes from an early age such as foreign language, art, and many sports. • 11. Richard Owen, A Prominent Biologist Richard Owen, a prominent biologist, however, suggested that the tracks found on Devon belong to a badger that had been distorted by freeze thaw action16. Additionally, the biologist also pointed at the possibility of the tracks belonging to rats, raccoons and swans that inhabited the Devon area at the time of the appearance of the tracks. Owen argued that the small animals moved on haystacks and wall constantly, thereby leaving a trail of tracks. However, this explanationis hard to believe and is not supported by evidence. As a matter of fact, small animals like rats, raccoons and swans would not like foot like prints on the surface of the snow. Rather, it would be expected that the tracks will be continuous and not take any definite pattern since small animals like rats tend to move haphazardly. Additionally, the animals being nominated here can all fit in four inch drainpipe, effectively disapproving the argument that they must have caused the tracks that appeared on the haystacks and wall in Devon. Another suggestion that the majority have agreed upon is the suggestion that the tracks must have been left by a Devonport Dockyard experimental balloon that was released by mistake and travelled across Devon area following its mooring shackles17. However, this explanation is further from the truth, considering how a balloon would naturally behave from the scientific point of view. As much as the movement of the balloon would explain the shape of the prints, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Depending on a person s point of view and moral values there exists an argument for both sides of HR programs. On one hand, proponents against HR programs may state that by promoting the means the ends will ultimately be met. Allowing such programs to exist could be viewed as advocating for the very thing they are attempting to eliminate from society. And they may very well be correct with their assumption: Perhaps abstinence is the best policy. On the other hand, while proponents for HR programs seem to have conceded defeat against some of the perils of society and accept the fact that substance use and abuse, as well as other demoralizing acts are inevitable, this does not mean they have given up hope of someday eliminating the problems altogether . Many also often assume that one side of a conflict is right and good, and the other wrong and evil. Good and evil go hand in hand. Depending on the environment, good people can get caught up in some very bad things. Good people do bad things because of desperation, religion, and peer pressure. In the article What Makes Good People Do Bad Things by Melissa Dittmann it briefly explains the Stanford Prison Experiment. Students took the role of being either a guard or prisoner. During the experiment the guards began to abuse their power and take advantage of the prisoners. Many of the prisoners had emotional breakdowns. This experiment showed that any human being can quickly submit to evil in the right environment. What pushes good people to their limit to do evil choices? With the right environment even the holiest people who got to church every Sunday, pay their tithes, don t steal, and treat others the way they want to be treated can do evil things. The fact that each of these locations had a prior involvement with nuclear technology probably contributed to their selection since DOE likely concluded that any opposition to establishing a radioactive waste repository would be muted.6 The site selection process in the East was even more difficult. Shoes have a short product life cycle and also suffer a high return rate. Some customers order more than one pair with an idea to return the pair that does not fit. • 25. The Practicality Of Network Security Introduction: As a concept, the practicality of Network Security includes using activities designed to protect a user s network. Specifically, the core aim for this security is to protect the usability, reliability, integrity, and safety of data on that network. In Network Securitythere are numerous applications and software programs that are used by individuals which perform their own roles in securing network data. The most common and possibly the most essential application used to protect network data is known as a firewall. A firewall is a program that is designed to act as a barrier between an external network and the users. Looking toward the future with the exponential evolution in technology, it is key to gather a more in depth and analytical study of the methodologies involved in firewall systems.Observing the current direction of firewall development can provide an idea of the improvements that can be made to keep up with an ever expanding technological society; especially as more and more people are being exposed, uneducated, to the dangers of the internet. Aim: By taking a look at the average household or business building, it is realised that a common aspect of their basic structure is the physical security mechanisms in place. These are in place to protect the privacy and integrity of what the owner possesses within. In terms of a network, this concept of preventing unauthorised access of one s property is just as valid. However, in the situation of a network, a firewall is used as this prevention security system. The idea is simple; a user may have stored, on their network, a certain amount of private data that is personal to them or their business. Thus, a firewall is put in place in order to prevent anything or anyone that does not have authorisation from accessing any of this data. If an unknown and potentially dangerous individual were to try to get into a building complex, the physical security appliances would react and prevent this from happening. A firewall works the same way; however it deals with potentially harmful packets entering the network. These packets are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Population growth has been increasing dramatically for if humans have existed, but as of more recently have been increasing more dramatically. Many theorists such as Thomas Malthus and the Cornucopians made attempts to try to better understand the trend of overpopulation. Both had very different views towards if populationgrowth was a negative or positive effect on consumption. The true question to both is whether overpopulation or overconsumption is a bigger factor that leads to the environmental problems that are present today. While it could be said, population is growing at an exponential rate, overconsumption is the true problem of what is leading to resource scarcity. Both problems can be assessed more accurately using real world market based and governance approaches. Many theories have been connected to how scarcity is related to either overpopulation or overconsumption. One of the main arguments for overpopulation and overconsumption was created by Thomas Malthus. Malthus stated that population grew exponentially and food sources were linearly growing by nature (Robins et al. 2014). By this accord, consumption would deteriorate the supply of food since the rates are so much more for population growth. While the argument seems sound mathematically, Malthus fails to incorporate the political or economic attributes contributing to consumption. Malthus also failed to ... Just like Medea, Jason is too a victim of the forces of human nature and society shown through his desire to climb the social ladder through marriage. Jason is hence left on stage alone and appears to be completely defeated emphasised by the image of a triumphant Medea in the chariot. He is left childless and his bride gone along with his dreams of power.
