College Students and Depression

College Students and Depression
College Students and Depression
College students face many adversities as they transcend their collegiate careers. Depression is a
major factor that haunts students since the first day they walk into their first lecture. It is extremely
alarming that in 2009, the American College Health Association found that 9.2 percent of college
students at all types of institutions reported being diagnosed with depression, and 9.4 percent with
anxiety (Fogg. B14 B15). However, most researchers believe that this statistical percentage is
much higher. What exactly is depression? Depression in terms of psychology is, a sign of
psychiatric disorder or a component of various psychoses, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Also, the Stafford loans are not enough to support a person during college. The paper work and
terminology in acquiring these loans is also tremendously difficult and puts a strain on the student
who has to do this every year. It is extremely stressful on knowing whether or not you are going to
be able to attend college next semester and can plague the student through the rest of their
collegiate experience. For example Amy began to notice depression setting in because of her
student loans. It was probably during sophomore year when I got a notice from FAFSA that my
financial aid did not go through. I had no money, and I needed to live at campus. It was stressful,
but I got it worked out after a couple of weeks, but it was pretty much down hill from there. The
stress just kept piling up with all the schoolwork, plus I missed my family. The only thing that
made me feel ever the slightest bit better was partying and drinking and going home for weekend.
(Collins). This shows that debt can be the instigating force that pushes toward other depression
inducing factors such as alcohol. As more and more students enroll in college and seek money, the
higher the risk for depression. The affect of depression on college students is extremely harmful in
the progression of education. The factors of depression can contribute to the progression of
depression well past the collegiate years. The one aspect that has the greatest effect of prolonging

Enemy Within, Enemy Without By Anna Magnani
Enemy Within, Enemy Without
Anna Magnani stars as a resourceful working class Roman mother trying to overcome her
unfortunate past to give a better life to her children, even as outside threats threaten everything
she has worked so hard to build. This vague framework could easily describe both Roberto
Rossellini s neorealist war drama Rome, Open City and Pier Paolo Pasolini s irreverent rebuke
Mamma Roma. Rome, Open City concerns itself with the devastation the Italian people faced at
the hands of their German occupiers and their collaborators, the titular city and its inhabitants
crumbling away in both body and spirit over the course of a cruel winter. In their city s darkest
hour, average citizens rise up to become heroes and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first place, it has the wind blown look of a film shot from actualities, with the camera
providentially on the scene. The stringent necessity for economy compelled the producers to make
a film that has all the appearance and flavor of a straight documentary.
Crudely shot on discarded US Signal Corps film whenever Rosellini could throw together the
money to pay for further filming, the film s bleak visuals become a character in and of themselves,
bracingly authentic despite their complete absence of polish. Much like the characters themselves,
the film is quite admirable despite being unrefined and without the proper resources to express itself.
By the time Pier Paolo Pasolini wrote the script for Mamma Roma in 1962, Rome had undergone
quite the dramatic makeover. Reaping the benefits from American investment and the creation of
the European Common Market, Italians saw their standard living rise to never before seen heights.

Analysis Of Martin Luther King And Malcolm X
In his inaugural address on August 9th, 1974, President Gerald Ford assured the nation our long
national nightmare is over. He may have spoken too soon. The early 1970s were a bleak time for
black America. So much hope had died with the assassination of Martin Luther King and Malcolm
X in the late 60 s. There were revolts in urban communities across the United States and brutal
encounters with the police (McTernan). Much has been written about the state of the nation in the
70 s but something extraordinary came out of the fire, music. The music of New York City amid
this time is a transformational and essential foundation for the birth of new music. The funky,
groove beats of jazz and the seductive, energetic sound of salsa erupted in... Show more content on

After about two years at Lincoln, Scott Heron took a year off from an unconventional college
career to write the novels The Vulture and The Nigger Factory, inspired by some of the anger
and resentment Gil felt about Lincoln and the tumult reverberating on other campuses (Baram).
He received esteemed recognition for the publication of The Vulture but he still enjoyed poetry
and performing. By the start of the decade, he realized that he could combine his charged
messages with poetry to funk beats to create a new sound. From this revelation, many of his
poems transformed into lyrics for songs that he composed with Brian. But thanks in large part to
the success of his first book of poetry, Small Talk at 125th and Lenox, Scott Heron was introduced
to producer Bob Thiele, who had worked with legendary jazz artists from Louis Armstrong to John
Coltrane. Thiele encouraged Scott Heron to perform his poetry, and for his debut release, Small
Talk at 125th and Lenox, recorded him reciting over an ensemble of percussionists. Most influential
on the album was The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, an aggressive polemic against the major
media and white America s ignorance of increasingly deteriorating conditions in the inner cities
(Bush). Based on the dichotomy between the commercials on television and the marches in the
streets not being televised, Scott Heron wrote a poem that would now be the

Why is Geothermal Energy Beneficial?

Why is Geothermal Energy Beneficial?
Volcanoes are wondrous formations on the earth. Humans are fascinated by them but are often
very cautious about volcanoes. They see them as explosive, lava spewing mountains often causing
natural disasters. These are just some of the effects of a volcano but plus side to it is that its
energy can be harnessed. Energy that can be used from a volcano is Geothermal Energy. It is a
clean, renewable energy which uses the steam produced from vents and hot springs near
volcanoes. In this paper I am going to prove why Geothermal Energy is good for the environment
and the society. Firstly I am going to discuss what geothermal energy is. Secondly, I will discuss
the benefits of geothermal energy to the environment. Thirdly I am going to show how geothermal
energy is beneficial to the society around its source. Lastly I will compare geothermal energy to
other energy sources and show why geothermal energy is the way to go.
What is Geothermal Energy?
The earth stores thermal energy within itself, this energy is then projected to the surface of the
earth. This is then released through vents that are close to volcanic systems or other tectonically
active areas. These could be steam vents, mud pots and hot springs. The temperatures used to reach
up to 100 degrees centigrade. This is the most conventional

Examples Of Inequality In Education
Inequality In Education
Education for all is such an important statement, but in many countries it goes without value to one
specific gender because they have a specific stereotype which they have to follow, and that shouldn
t stand. Everyone has the rights to learn and receive an education, and by receiving a better
education it can also help our beautiful earth in many ways.
Global
Our world has mostly learn to accept equality in education, but in some places they still haven t
got the memo! A long time ago, there was a huge discrimination in religion (Muslim) between the
gender cause it was thought that the girls job was to stay at home and take care of the kids and

For example every single child should be enrolled in school for at least 16 years of their life cause
for those 16 years ,they will have the basic knowledge s on how to survive life and to not be
forced into anything without them knowing they can actually fight for their own opinion and
rights and this should be a universal law. Another solution is that organizations could volunteer
qualified individuals to teach girls around the world and they could alternate so the volunteer
wouldn t be only helping one specific place they would be helping the world. Donation by money
is also very important because by that way the money that was received could be used to build
schools and give a better life for these kids.
Inequality in education is a very big problem because if you had to put yourself in that little girl
s shoe whose being forced into an arranged marriage and having babies at the age of 10 and
being forced to be at home all the time without the slightest knowledge that you could fight for
yourself . Education plays a very big role in everyone s life and everyone should be given this
opportunity and possible make a difference in this world because the smallest change could make a
huge difference and that s what our world needs right now,

Physics Of Bowling

The Physics of Bowling Bowling is a fun filled pastime with a lot more to it than what meets the
eye. Some of the concepts involved are energy, momentum, forces, velocity, acceleration, and
center of mass. The ultimate goal of a bowler is to knock down as many pins as he can. To
successfully do this, a bowler needs to first consider the trajectory in which his ball travels down
the lane. Energy is a system s ability to do work. (Elert) The unit for energy is joules. Some other
characteristics of energy are that it takes numerous forms and that it is a scalar quantity.(Elert) The
two types of energy are kinetic energy and potential energy. Kinetic energy refers to an object s
motion. This differs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The greater angle optimizes the number of pins that the ball will knock down. The way that the
bowler controls this is in the manner in which he grasps the ball. It is dependent on the position
that the bowler places his fingers and thumb. Rotational velocity is the main feature. The
importance of rotational velocity is from the precession it provides the ball with. Precession is the
change in direction of the bowling balls spin vector... over time (Physics Of Bowling.) Increasing
precession leads to the domino effect. That is increasing amount of friction on the ball, so the
hook that the ball strikes the pins is also greater. By default there is a greater angle for the bowling

A Look into Some Causes, Effects, and Possible Solutions of Deforestation in the Global
Environment
I.Introduction With society s demand and need for the earth s resources, deforestation has long
been a prevalent environmental issue at hand and has picked up significant momentum more
recently. Deforestation occurs around the world, however, according to GRID Arendal, it is most
prevalent in areas with tropical rainforests such as Brazil, Indonesia, Thailand, the Democratic
Republic of Congo and other parts of Africa, and parts of Eastern Europe (Szalay 1). For a
number of reasons, trees are being cleared at massive levels resulting in poor quality land and
have created negative effects and impacts on the global environment. Since deforestation is caused
by both human and natural factors such as wildfires and overgrazing, it is difficult to completely
pinpoint one cause ( Deforestation 1). However, researching and looking at which causes are most
impactful can help deduce possible solutions to help prevent unnecessary and excessive tree
clearing. It is important to look into solutions to help prevent deforestation because it is negatively
impacting the world s environment and making it difficult for certain animals, such as birds, and
even humans to maintain their standard of living and their quality of life. And so, in an attempt to
delve a bit deeper with regards to deforestation, this paper will

Wizard Of Oz Movie Vs Book
There s no place like home (The Wizard): one of the most memorable dialogues of The Wizard
of Oz, directed by Victor Fleming. This quote is the basis of various themes of the film.
However, this movie is but one interpretation of the original work, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
by Frank Baum. The two pieces are similar and have the same general story lines, but the themes
the two were trying to depict are not as similar as one might think. At first glance, Baum s book
might be portraying the same message as the movie, but analysis of the other books in the Oz book
series is required to truly understand Baum s theories. Though Fleming s The Wizard of Ozand
Baum s The Wonderful Wizard of Ozare similar in terms of plot, Baum and Fleming... Show more

Baum, Jonathan Swift was also a satirical and progressive writer. His essay A Modest Proposal,
one of the most acclaimed pieces in satirical writing, discusses ridiculous, unrealistic solutions to
help improve economic conditions of Ireland. A concept analyzed in Swift s essay similar to
concepts in the Oz books series is Swift s anger [...] aimed at all social classes in Ireland
(Ferguson, Oliver). Being part of a class system limits people to a certain lifestyle, creating
prejudices. Swift is against the idea of restricting people to one way of living. Because the Irish
obey to the system implemented by the British, little to no action was made against the horrid
economic conditions of Ireland at the time Swift published his essay. Swift gave many
suggestions to relieve social and economic turmoil of Ireland, but none of his suggestions were
considered. The wealthy put in power by the British were prospering while the rest of the island
was in chaos. His essay not only criticizes the wealthy, but also the citizens that were conforming
to the terrible economic conditions. Swift believes the people could have done more to help their
nation if they were dauntless enough to make a difference. Baum portrayed similar themes in his
Oz books. Baum and Swift were men ahead of their time that encouraged progression and new
experiences. Baum would definitely be one to disagree with a social class system that forces a
single purpose of living onto a group of people.

Of Justice In William Shakespearer, Hamlet, And Thomas...
William Shakespeare s King Lear, Hamlet, and Thomas Hardy s Mayor of Casterbridge each
examine both the search for and the effects of justice. King Lear is a case study of a failed
monarch and his remorse for not having been a better king. Hamlet tasks a teenage boy with
avenging his father s death, prompting questions about morality and righteousness. The Mayor of
Casterbridgeis a man s attempts to reconcile his shortcomings with what he feels is right.
Tragically, in each of these works the search for justice, or the character s flawed understanding of
it, is ultimately unsuccessful, resulting in injustice towards others. King Learis defined by the
figurehead monarch s quest for what he sees as justice for himself. After Goneril and Regan
betray him by refusing to house his nights, King Lear calls upon the heavens avenge him and
punish his daughters with a storm. O heavens, he implores, If you do love old men, if your
sweet sway Show obedience, if you yourselves are old, Make it your cause. Send down, and take
my part (2.4.217 220). These lines, uttered in the raw emotion of a man who feels wronged by
those he loves, are representative of Lear s temper and distress when things don t go his way.
His daughters perceived insult to him spurs a helpless call for justice from the gods, a justice
Lear no longer can carry out because he has divested himself of power. Lear s inability to
forcefully delve justice This hearkens back to his overhasty reaction towards Cordelia

Max Lowenstein was Jewish but Marie Steinberg was from Estonia, as a result their son Henry
was half Jewish but their daughter who was from not born from Marie s marriage with Max was
not Jewish. Nevertheless, the family still received tremendous persecution. His father was a
doctor and his mother an artist. But both were very artistic, as Henry Lowenstein mentions in

their home; the place was decorated with art, his parents always went to the theater, and his
mother would take him to different museums in Berlin. They were also a family who practiced

buy and resell tickets drives up the price for the buyers, who had less chance of purchasing it
competing with the software at the original price. Aristotle would have also been supportive of this
act, who believe retail trade and money making are unnatural ways of attaining wealth. Moreover,
John Ruskin would make similar decision, due to his concern with the way we obtain wealth, and
inequality in the economy. However, Andrew Carnegie would have thought... Show more content on

Thus, in this case, the consumers are getting poorer in response to the ticket scalpers earning a
profit. In his article, he wrote about two examples about events that happens in life, and ways of
pursuing money that can leads to inequality. Also arguing that inequality of wealth distribution
will leads to less accumulative production, because those who are wealthier will choose not to
work not because they are incapable, but they have the ability to fulfill their needs by paying the
others. In this case, the consumers who purchase the tickets are working hard to be able to pay for
them at a much higher price, while the ticket scalpers are earning a huge profit, which will lead
them to work less, therefore, the community will have a lower total output.
Some will also argue against Better Online Ticket Sales Act, claiming that its benefits to the
economy outweighs the negative effects. Andrew Carnegie, one of the most wealthy man in U.S.
history, takes a different standpoint than Aristotle and Ruskin. Carnegie believe the distribution of
wealth is important in an economy, and the wealthier are more capable of handling money. The
way of obtaining wealth is not so important as compared to the way of spending it, Carnegie
believe the rich have the responsibility of improving the society, and they should allow their wealth
to flow back into the society. He then would argue the ticket scalpers are

The University Of Southern California
The University of Southern California promotes five pillars for all of its students to embody:
faithful, scholarly, skillful, courageous, and ambitious. Of these five traits, a student s possession
of courage will take him or her on the greatest path to success. USC relates the trait courageous to
itself by proclaiming that students are bold when faced with opportunities to contribute to USC s
continuous efforts to build a greater university for generations to come ( Five Traits of a Trojan ).
While this is true, this boldness is not necessarily shown immediately or developed overnight. In
addition, it is true that USC being courageous will benefit USC for generations to come.

How does this definition tie the people in this array to courage? What do they all have in
common? Each of these figures was a strong, successful leader. It is not a coincidence that this
definition of courage coincides with great leadership. There are many other examples and
definitions of courage, such as the other definition offered by Oxford: strength in the face of
pain or grief (Oxford). Here, we have a broader definition of courage that is less inclusive to
negative examples. Yet, this definition also embodies great leadership. Any leader of a minority
group that has overcome obstacles to achieve their goals fits into this definition, such as the
previously mentioned Nelson Mandela. Mandela protested against racism in the South African
government and helped to destroy South Africa s apartheid system ( Nelson Mandela ).
Mandela contributed to the good life, embodied by life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness by
offering victims of discrimination opportunities to seek greater liberty and happiness. All
inspiring, influential leaders have contributed to the good life for people facing injustice. Not all
leaders, however, have made the good life their goal. Leaders like Hitler and Bin Laden made it
impossible for millions of individuals to live the good life, so how is courage the most necessary
trait for living the good life? These individuals were courageous but left

The Army Of The United States
The movement from a drafted to an all volunteer force has proven to provide the Army of the
United States with some of its most impressive Soldiers. Whether Soldiers desire to join the
military for the pay, job security or answering the call to serve their country, these desires have
become increasingly obsolete in today s Army because of budget cuts. The Army will begin to lose
quality Soldiers due to continued pay cuts to militarypay, basic allowance for housing and changes
to retirement plans. On March 2014, presented to Congress was a 495.6 billion dollar budget for
the Department of Defense (DOD). This newly presented budget is a 400 million dollar cut from
the previous fiscal year (FY) (October 1, 2014). This budget will create a smaller; yet, agile force
that can still rapidly support the United Statesof America at any time. The budget will stand for
continued advancements in protection and applied research to help ensure future competitive
advantages for the United States of America. With that said, where would the 400 million dollar
DOD budget cuts be made? According to the United States Department of Defense Budget
Request of Fiscal Year 2015 (DOD BR15) (2014), in order to continue to build a readily available
force to support the country s needs, budget cuts are needed and will be made at the expense of
the Soldiers. Military Soldiers and families are set to suffer additional pay decreases due to the

led to her having her baby prematurely and going simple. Mrs. Dempster has greatly impacted

books and become a famous author, based on Saint hood. Dunstan s fascination with saints

as bringing his brother, Willie, back to life after he was nearly dead due to a very bad flu. Mrs.
Dempster s second miracle was saving the life of a tramp which caused him to turn his life
around after their encounter. Finally, her third miracle was her face appearing on the statue of a

Of Captain Misson And His Crew By Daniel Defoe Summary
Daniel Defoe has been acknowledged as the author of A General History Of The Pyrates ,
published in 1728, throughout the centuries of the early modern period. Being pursued as Captain
Charles Johnson, the author seemingly imitates a false characterization in order to portray a
different perspective to the commentary on the life of Of Captain Misson and His Crew . Defoe
introduced this volume of fiction, among many chapters, seeking the inequality and insincerity of
the english society attributing to the commission of piracy throughout the population. He
familiarizes his passages in mostly, different narratives as he describes a quite peculiar and
distinctive acknowledgement implied to the proper intentions of a well known captain pirate. On

Defoe introduces a particularly new statement according to the law of piracy during the 18th

throughout the book regarding the idealization of the colony known as Libertalia. The government
on Misson s ship followed with Libertalia s territory, was mostly known to the crew as the pirate

Reducing The Risk Of Ventilator Acquired Pneumonia
Reducing the Risk of Ventilator Acquired Pneumonia through Head of Bed Elevation The
American Thoracic Society (1996) defines ventilator acquired pneumonia or VAP as the specified
type of nosocomial pneumonia that occurs after the first 48 hours of initiating mechanical
ventilation. One of the major causes of mortality among infections acquired at the hospital is VAP.
Once a patient develops VAP he/she will have to spend to longer amount of time in the ICU (Rello
et al.,1996). VAP initiating bacteria are often categorized into two groups: those that cause early
onset VAP (usually with 4 days of mechanical ventilation) and those that cause late onset VAP
(usually after 4 days of mechanical ventilation) (Craven and Steger, 1996; George et... Show more

The various factors that increase a patient s susceptibility to VAP are discussed by Cook et
al.(1998). Background of study It has been found that the chances of developing nosocomial
pneumonia is reduced by situating seriously ill ventilated patients in a semi recumbent position.
The goal of this experiment is to compare and contrast between the effects of the present standard
degree of bed head elevation (i.e. 25 В°) and 45В° elevation on the occurrence of VAP. The
incidence of VAP can be prevented/reduced in the hospitals by taking nursing measures.
Elevation of head of bed is one among them. Nurses should maintain the angle of 45 degree of
bed head elevation all times to reduce the risk of aspiration. The flat position increases the risk of
aspiration. The main purpose of this study is to understand whether or not increasing the standard
degree of bed head elevation will help minimize the occurrence of VAP. Methods of study The
method adopted was quantitative in nature, using a randomized controlled trial. In order to achieve
this, 71 adult patients were assessed for eligibility and among this 59 met the given criteria. They
were randomly categorized into treatment groups consisting of 29 patients and a control group
consisting of 27 patients. The randomization was done by the same nurse who recruited the patients

Divine Justice In Dante s 5th Canto
Canto 5
In the 5th canto Dante enters the second circle of Hell. Here, Dante places the unchaste lovers. This
shows that Dante was heavily influenced by the puritanical extremism of the Medieval Catholic
Church. The Medieval Catholic Church demonized the feeling of love. It considered the feeling
sexual attraction as something impure, which is why all church bishops had to be virgin. Dante
uses his own character s emotions to show an important philosophical problem about the
immorality of extramarital love that the real Dante Alighieri probably thought about.
This canto is important as it shows a philosophical clash of human emotions with the concept of
Divine Justice. Here we can see that Dante presents himself as someone who is saddened by the
fact that the lovers must suffer so much. Dante Alighieri himself was famous for his love of
Beatrice, a woman he never married. So it is understandable why Dante would pity them, share
their pain and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Melebolge is the 8th circle of hell. It contains corrupt and hypocritical people. In the 29th canto
Dante finds himself surrounded by damned souls who are guilty of simony. Among them is Pope
Nicholas III who mistakes Dante for Pope Boniface VII, signaling that Boniface VII will soon
arrive there as well.
This canto is interesting to historians as this gives us a unique perspective into the political
climate of Florence and the medieval world at that time. Dante grew up as a Florentine Guelf.
He was a politician in the city of Florence. He served as a member of Florentine Signoria. His
political party was the Bianchi faction of Florentine Guelfs. They wanted more liberty for
Florence and less power for the Pope. They were overthrown by the Neri faction of the Guelfs and
the papal politicians. After that Dante was exiled out of Florence by the Neris. This is why it is
obvious that Dante would put Boniface VIII in

Comparing The Soldier by Rupert Brooke and Dulce Et...
Comparing The Soldier by Rupert Brooke and Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen
World War I, probably the most horrible of modern wars, inspired some of the most beautiful and
powerful poetry of the 20th century. Two very good examples are The Soldier by Rupert Brooke
and Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen, both were written before and during the this war.
Rupert Brooke was a well educated English man who lived the enthusiasm of the whole country
when the war started. He wrote this and many other poems with the illusion of a very short war
with a happy ending. He joined the army and went to war. However, he didn t have the chance to

Brooke poem tell us about the good things of dying and even sounds perfect to died in a war and
Owen portrays the image of grotesque death in the field during the war. This difference is mainly
due to what poets experience. It is probable that if Brooke had experience war his poems could
have change of point of view.
The structure and the language both poems have very little similarities and many differences. One
similarity is the consistency of their rhyme scheme. Both poems have a regular rhyme scheme, this
is because… The language Owen s use in the poem is very informal and colloquial. For
example when he wrote Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots / of disappointment shells that
drop behind . The poem doesn t have a formal stanza laid out, the first stanza has eight verse and
the third only two verses. By not using ceremonial words and not having formal stanza laid out,
Owen try to point us again that the war is not elegant or has formal structure. Brooke poem is quite
different, he is language and the structure of the poem is very formal. This suggests that his way of
thinking of war is very formal and by some means without suffering.
Dulce et Decorum Est is full of similes and metaphors, For example, Bent double like old beggars,
under sacks/ knock kneed, coughing like hags or his hanging face, like devil s sick of sin the

How Did The Enlightenment Impact On American Society

our self . Mead heavily focused on social problems and social reform in his research, his most

Anti Federalists Vs. Federalists
Anti Federalists vs. Federalists (Paper #1)
The Federalists and the Anti Federalists played an indispensable part in the establishment of the
American Constitution. Federalists were supporters of the constitution, while Anti federalist were
against the ratification of the Constitution. Federalists believed in the idea of a larger
heterogeneous republic whereas anti federalists wanted a small homogenous republic. Famous
federalists like James Madison, John Jay and Alexander Hamilton are responsible for giving us
paramount pieces of historic documents in the form of the Federalist papers . The Federalist papers
were 85 documents urging the ratification of the US Constitution. Anti federalist side included
people like Samuel Adams, George Mason and Patrick Henry, and they believed the Articles of
Confederation should be altered rather than completely changed in the form of the Constitution.
Concurring with the Federalist side, it is imperative to see that the Federalists argument was more
viable, due to the fact that larger republics and checks and balances are useful tools in controlling a
democracy. We can t compare ourselves to the way Sparta and Athens operated. Our country would
thrive more under a stronger national government rather than a stronger state government. The anti
federalists were against the proposed Constitution and wanted the power to be invested in local and

One theory that contributed to hypertension amongst this culture group is stressors, especially
when it came to acculturation, which is an adaptation of a new environment in every aspect that
includes social, cultural, psychological and even political changes (Ursua et al., 2013). Another
contribution to hypertension within this culture is lack of knowledge, specifically when it comes to
diet (Serafica Angosta, 2016). Many recipes in the Filipino culture contain high sodium. Therefore,
in addition to consuming Filipino dishes, American diet, when not taken into consideration, can
exacerbate the high consumption of sodium and saturated fat which leads to hypertension as well.
A nursing intervention to help improve this health need within the Filipino American population is
helping identify stressors and ways to reduce them. As Ursua et al. found that stress is a factor of
hypertension, especially amongst Filipino Americans and their experience with migrating to the
United States to provide for their family back in the Philippines (2014). A nurse can help identify
with the patient the stressors and discover a realistic plan or coping mechanism to overcome them.
Another intervention is patient education such as teaching what is considered hypertension, how to

Caddy is a mother to Benjamin; she knows exactly how to relax and calm Benjy while their

Poster For Thor Is Extremely Detailed And Eye Catching
The movie poster for Thor is extraordinarily detailed and eye catching. This poster uses a
different combination of colors. The main colors are dull shades of blue and gray, but
throughout the middle of the poster, a beam of light is created by a hue of colors like red, white,
and gold. The first element of the poster that catches the viewer s eye is the couple standing
directly in the middle of the action with very serious facial expressions, looking off to the right
of the poster. This image is clear as the viewer will see every detail on the woman and man. The

Chapter 25 the Grapes of Wrath
THE SPRING IS BEAUTIFUL in California. Valleys in which the fruit blossoms are fragrant
pink and white waters in a shallow sea. Then the first tendrils of the grapes swelling from the old
gnarled vines, cascade down to cover the trunks. The full green hills are round and soft as breasts.
And on the level vegetable lands are the mile long rows of pale green lettuce and the spindly little
cauliflowers, the gray green unearthly artichoke plants.
And then the leaves break out on the trees, and the petals drop from the fruit trees and carpet the
earth with pink and white. The centers of the blossoms swell and grow and color: cherries and
apples, peaches and pears, figs which close the flower in the fruit. All California ... Show more

The meat turns dark and the crop shrivels on the ground.
And the pears grow yellow and soft. Five dollars a ton. Five dollars for forty fiftypound boxes;
trees pruned and sprayed, orchards cultivated pick the fruit, put it in boxes, load the trucks, deliver
the fruit to the cannery forty boxes for five dollars. We can t do it. And the yellow fruit falls
heavily to the ground and splashes on the ground.
The yellowjackets dig into the soft meat, and there is a smell of ferment and rot.
Then the grapes we can t make good wine. People can t buy good wine. Rip the grapes from the
vines, good grapes, rotten grapes, wasp stung grapes. Press stems, press dirt and rot.
But there s mildew and formic acid in the vats.
Add sulphur and tannic acid.
The smell from the ferment is not the rich odor of wine, but the smell of decay and chemicals. Oh,
well. It has alcohol in it, anyway. They can get drunk.
The little farmers watched debt creep up on them like the tide. They sprayed the trees and sold no
crop, they pruned and grafted and could not pick the crop. And the men of knowledge have
worked, have considered, and the fruit is rotting on the ground, and the decaying mash in the wine
vat is poisoning the air. And taste the wine no grapeflavor at all, just sulphur and tannic acid and
alcohol.

Golden Retrievers
You feel the slobbery licks on you hands, you see the little fluff balls rolling around on the
ground. As you feel the silky softness of the little dogs beside you, and enjoy the feeling of energy
buzz around you, you re thinking about taking on home. Most dogs love to be around humans, they
are so energetic and cute. To get the dogyou want, you might need to know a little more about
them, for example, their sizes, breed, and the type of job they want, or need, to do.
All dogs have different sizes. Dogs can be big, small, tall, or fat. The size of the dog can be useful,
but but still remember that you need to take care of them. If you have a big dog he could be a bit
more rough than a small dog. A tall dog could be useful if you wanted him to be able to scare off
predators if you were camping. A small dog could be useful as a lap dog to anyone if they needed
to calm down. All dogs are useful in some way no matter their size.
Dogs come in many different types of breeds, and each breed usually determines what they do.
For example, a German Shepard is usually trained to do police work, like chasing robbers, or
sniffing out bombs. Golden Retrievers can be trained to be special service dogs, such as calming
people, or being trusted to guide blind people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that are protectors or guardians usually bark at anything that is unusual to them. Hunting dogs

Infertility And The Fertility Related Issues
For couples unable to conceive naturally who decide that adoption is not an option for them at this
time or alternatively for their particular situation, the first step in the process to treat infertility is
attempting to diagnosis the source of the infertility. In order to do this, both partners undergo a
series of preliminary diagnostic tests and procedures to determine if either the male or female have
any of the fertilityrelated issues. Infertility by definition is not being able to conceive after one
year of trying with unprotected sex. Trying to conceive not only affects the women but also the
man can have some type of issues that can affect the couple ability to become pregnant.
Infertility has become a growing issues for couples. According to CDC About 6% of married
women 15 44 years of age in the United States are unable to get pregnant after one year of
unprotected sex (infertility). Also, about 12% of women 15 44 years of age in the United States
have difficulty getting pregnant or carrying a pregnancyto term, regardless of marital status called
impaired fecundity. (http://www.cdc.gov/reproductivehealth/infertility)

To increase public confidence in the financial planning, many banks and insurance companies
require their staff to take the CFP examination. As for China, Chinese government has opened the
financial market over the years which lead to the changes of the Chinese circumstance frequently.
So financial planners in China are required to receive related education to enhance the public
confident on financial planning. Taking the example of China taxation system, there were several
changes in tax incentive for foreign business and individual income tax. Financial planners in China
should aware these changes and modify their tax planning quickly for their clients.
Interpersonal skills are essential to financial planners. Because they have to collect the data from
their clients to make recommendations to their clients. When collecting data from their clients,
financial planners should show their integrity and competence to convince the clients. It can be
better to set the financial goal for their clients.
Chinese people would not disclose their private information to the stranger easily. It hampers
financial planners to help their clients to pursue their financial goals. Financial planners who serve

The Trajan s Column Out Of Stone
There were many different types of sculptures that were used in the past and it is still used today.
Some of these types include marble, stone, and bronze sculptures. Many ancient civilizations built
famous monuments, buildings, and temples out of those three materials and some of them still
stand today. The first sculpturetype is marble. Marble is limestone turned to a metamorphic rock by
applying heat, compression, and pressure. The Roman Empireand Classical and Hellenistic Greece

sculptures were made of copper, zinc, and tin. It is a metal first discovered from bronze tools

The country called the Kingdom of the Netherlands, or more often simply the Netherlands, is an
intriguing place. Common images associated with this country include decorative wooden shoes,

colorful tulips. A land of diverse and varied history, the Netherlandshas overcome intriguing
struggles in many centuries, impacting the world despite its diminutive size. Among the smaller

The mouths of three major European rivers converge in the Netherlands: the Rhine, Maas (or
Meuse), and Schelde. The heritage of the Netherlands is equally interesting. Though the country
celebrates unique traditions, such as St. Nicholas Day a holiday based on the life of a generous
bishop the earliest recorded history comes from the time of the Roman Empire. The Romans built
forts and warred successfully against the natives of the region, known as Batavians. Later, the
Batavians rebelled. Though they ultimately lost, they gained a tax exempt status within the Empire.
The Dutch proudly consider the perky Batavians to be their founding fathers. Like the rest of
Europe, the region became a feudalistic society during the Holy Roman Empire. Pope Urban II s
encouragement in the late eleventh century led drew the Dutch into the crusades. Later, the
powerful Hapsburg family (1477 1515) entangled the country in religious wars and unsuccessful
struggles for emancipation from the Holy Roman Empire. Caught up in the aftermath of the
Reformation, the country even came under control of the Roman Catholic Philip II of Spain
(husband of Bloody Mary of England). A predominantly Protestant region as a result of the
Reformation, the country resisted Phillip and the illegitimate sister he had

  • 2. College Students and Depression Electronic Research Assignment College Students and Depression College Students and Depression College students face many adversities as they transcend their collegiate careers. Depression is a major factor that haunts students since the first day they walk into their first lecture. It is extremely alarming that in 2009, the American College Health Association found that 9.2 percent of college students at all types of institutions reported being diagnosed with depression, and 9.4 percent with anxiety (Fogg. B14 B15). However, most researchers believe that this statistical percentage is much higher. What exactly is depression? Depression in terms of psychology is, a sign of psychiatric disorder or a component of various psychoses, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, the Stafford loans are not enough to support a person during college. The paper work and terminology in acquiring these loans is also tremendously difficult and puts a strain on the student who has to do this every year. It is extremely stressful on knowing whether or not you are going to be able to attend college next semester and can plague the student through the rest of their collegiate experience. For example Amy began to notice depression setting in because of her student loans. It was probably during sophomore year when I got a notice from FAFSA that my financial aid did not go through. I had no money, and I needed to live at campus. It was stressful, but I got it worked out after a couple of weeks, but it was pretty much down hill from there. The stress just kept piling up with all the schoolwork, plus I missed my family. The only thing that made me feel ever the slightest bit better was partying and drinking and going home for weekend. (Collins). This shows that debt can be the instigating force that pushes toward other depression inducing factors such as alcohol. As more and more students enroll in college and seek money, the higher the risk for depression. The affect of depression on college students is extremely harmful in the progression of education. The factors of depression can contribute to the progression of depression well past the collegiate years. The one aspect that has the greatest effect of prolonging ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Enemy Within, Enemy Without By Anna Magnani Enemy Within, Enemy Without Anna Magnani stars as a resourceful working class Roman mother trying to overcome her unfortunate past to give a better life to her children, even as outside threats threaten everything she has worked so hard to build. This vague framework could easily describe both Roberto Rossellini s neorealist war drama Rome, Open City and Pier Paolo Pasolini s irreverent rebuke Mamma Roma. Rome, Open City concerns itself with the devastation the Italian people faced at the hands of their German occupiers and their collaborators, the titular city and its inhabitants crumbling away in both body and spirit over the course of a cruel winter. In their city s darkest hour, average citizens rise up to become heroes and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the first place, it has the wind blown look of a film shot from actualities, with the camera providentially on the scene. The stringent necessity for economy compelled the producers to make a film that has all the appearance and flavor of a straight documentary. Crudely shot on discarded US Signal Corps film whenever Rosellini could throw together the money to pay for further filming, the film s bleak visuals become a character in and of themselves, bracingly authentic despite their complete absence of polish. Much like the characters themselves, the film is quite admirable despite being unrefined and without the proper resources to express itself. By the time Pier Paolo Pasolini wrote the script for Mamma Roma in 1962, Rome had undergone quite the dramatic makeover. Reaping the benefits from American investment and the creation of the European Common Market, Italians saw their standard living rise to never before seen heights. As John F. Kennedy extolled while addressing a dinner held in his honor by then President of Italy Antonio Segni, A nation once literally in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Martin Luther King And Malcolm X In his inaugural address on August 9th, 1974, President Gerald Ford assured the nation our long national nightmare is over. He may have spoken too soon. The early 1970s were a bleak time for black America. So much hope had died with the assassination of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X in the late 60 s. There were revolts in urban communities across the United States and brutal encounters with the police (McTernan). Much has been written about the state of the nation in the 70 s but something extraordinary came out of the fire, music. The music of New York City amid this time is a transformational and essential foundation for the birth of new music. The funky, groove beats of jazz and the seductive, energetic sound of salsa erupted in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After about two years at Lincoln, Scott Heron took a year off from an unconventional college career to write the novels The Vulture and The Nigger Factory, inspired by some of the anger and resentment Gil felt about Lincoln and the tumult reverberating on other campuses (Baram). He received esteemed recognition for the publication of The Vulture but he still enjoyed poetry and performing. By the start of the decade, he realized that he could combine his charged messages with poetry to funk beats to create a new sound. From this revelation, many of his poems transformed into lyrics for songs that he composed with Brian. But thanks in large part to the success of his first book of poetry, Small Talk at 125th and Lenox, Scott Heron was introduced to producer Bob Thiele, who had worked with legendary jazz artists from Louis Armstrong to John Coltrane. Thiele encouraged Scott Heron to perform his poetry, and for his debut release, Small Talk at 125th and Lenox, recorded him reciting over an ensemble of percussionists. Most influential on the album was The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, an aggressive polemic against the major media and white America s ignorance of increasingly deteriorating conditions in the inner cities (Bush). Based on the dichotomy between the commercials on television and the marches in the streets not being televised, Scott Heron wrote a poem that would now be the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Why Geothermal Energy Is Good For The Environment And The... Why is Geothermal Energy Beneficial? Com 217: Science Writing and Presentation Purdue University November 3, 2014 Why is Geothermal Energy Beneficial? Volcanoes are wondrous formations on the earth. Humans are fascinated by them but are often very cautious about volcanoes. They see them as explosive, lava spewing mountains often causing natural disasters. These are just some of the effects of a volcano but plus side to it is that its energy can be harnessed. Energy that can be used from a volcano is Geothermal Energy. It is a clean, renewable energy which uses the steam produced from vents and hot springs near volcanoes. In this paper I am going to prove why Geothermal Energy is good for the environment and the society. Firstly I am going to discuss what geothermal energy is. Secondly, I will discuss the benefits of geothermal energy to the environment. Thirdly I am going to show how geothermal energy is beneficial to the society around its source. Lastly I will compare geothermal energy to other energy sources and show why geothermal energy is the way to go. What is Geothermal Energy? The earth stores thermal energy within itself, this energy is then projected to the surface of the earth. This is then released through vents that are close to volcanic systems or other tectonically active areas. These could be steam vents, mud pots and hot springs. The temperatures used to reach up to 100 degrees centigrade. This is the most conventional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples Of Inequality In Education Inequality In Education Education for all is such an important statement, but in many countries it goes without value to one specific gender because they have a specific stereotype which they have to follow, and that shouldn t stand. Everyone has the rights to learn and receive an education, and by receiving a better education it can also help our beautiful earth in many ways. Global Our world has mostly learn to accept equality in education, but in some places they still haven t got the memo! For example every single child should be enrolled in school for at least 16 years of their life cause for those 16 years ,they will have the basic knowledge s on how to survive life and to not be forced into anything without them knowing they can actually fight for their own opinion and rights and this should be a universal law. Another solution is that organizations could volunteer qualified individuals to teach girls around the world and they could alternate so the volunteer wouldn t be only helping one specific place they would be helping the world. Donation by money is also very important because by that way the money that was received could be used to build schools and give a better life for these kids. Inequality in education is a very big problem because if you had to put yourself in that little girl s shoe whose being forced into an arranged marriage and having babies at the age of 10 and being forced to be at home all the time without the slightest knowledge that you could fight for yourself . Education plays a very big role in everyone s life and everyone should be given this opportunity and possible make a difference in this world because the smallest change could make a huge difference and that s what our world needs right now, ... Some of the concepts involved are energy, momentum, forces, velocity, acceleration, and center of mass. The ultimate goal of a bowler is to knock down as many pins as he can. To successfully do this, a bowler needs to first consider the trajectory in which his ball travels down the lane. Energy is a system s ability to do work. (Elert) The unit for energy is joules. Some other characteristics of energy are that it takes numerous forms and that it is a scalar quantity.(Elert) The two types of energy are kinetic energy and potential energy. Precession is the change in direction of the bowling balls spin vector... over time (Physics Of Bowling.) Increasing precession leads to the domino effect. Ameera Jafrey Professor Syvates ENST 150 September 22, 2014 A Look into Some Causes, Effects, and Possible Solutions of Deforestation in the Global Environment I.Introduction With society s demand and need for the earth s resources, deforestation has long been a prevalent environmental issue at hand and has picked up significant momentum more recently. Deforestation occurs around the world, however, according to GRID Arendal, it is most prevalent in areas with tropical rainforests such as Brazil, Indonesia, Thailand, the Democratic Republic of Congo and other parts of Africa, and parts of Eastern Europe (Szalay 1). For a number of reasons, trees are being cleared at massive levels resulting in poor quality land and have created negative effects and impacts on the global environment. Since deforestation is caused by both human and natural factors such as wildfires and overgrazing, it is difficult to completely pinpoint one cause ( Deforestation 1). However, researching and looking at which causes are most impactful can help deduce possible solutions to help prevent unnecessary and excessive tree clearing. It is important to look into solutions to help prevent deforestation because it is negatively impacting the world s environment and making it difficult for certain animals, such as birds, and even humans to maintain their standard of living and their quality of life. And so, in an attempt to delve a bit deeper with regards to deforestation, this paper will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This quote is the basis of various themes of the film. However, this movie is but one interpretation of the original work, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Frank Baum. The two pieces are similar and have the same general story lines, but the themes the two were trying to depict are not as similar as one might think. At first glance, Baum s book might be portraying the same message as the movie, but analysis of the other books in the Oz book series is required to truly understand Baum s theories. Baum, Jonathan Swift was also a satirical and progressive writer. His essay A Modest Proposal, one of the most acclaimed pieces in satirical writing, discusses ridiculous, unrealistic solutions to help improve economic conditions of Ireland. A concept analyzed in Swift s essay similar to concepts in the Oz books series is Swift s anger [...] aimed at all social classes in Ireland (Ferguson, Oliver). Being part of a class system limits people to a certain lifestyle, creating prejudices. Swift is against the idea of restricting people to one way of living. Because the Irish obey to the system implemented by the British, little to no action was made against the horrid economic conditions of Ireland at the time Swift published his essay. Swift gave many suggestions to relieve social and economic turmoil of Ireland, but none of his suggestions were considered. The wealthy put in power by the British were prospering while the rest of the island was in chaos. His essay not only criticizes the wealthy, but also the citizens that were conforming to the terrible economic conditions. Swift believes the people could have done more to help their nation if they were dauntless enough to make a difference. Baum portrayed similar themes in his Oz books. Baum and Swift were men ahead of their time that encouraged progression and new experiences. Baum would definitely be one to disagree with a social class system that forces a single purpose of living onto a group of people. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Of Justice In William Shakespearer, Hamlet, And Thomas... William Shakespeare s King Lear, Hamlet, and Thomas Hardy s Mayor of Casterbridge each examine both the search for and the effects of justice. King Lear is a case study of a failed monarch and his remorse for not having been a better king. Hamlet tasks a teenage boy with avenging his father s death, prompting questions about morality and righteousness. The Mayor of Casterbridgeis a man s attempts to reconcile his shortcomings with what he feels is right. Tragically, in each of these works the search for justice, or the character s flawed understanding of it, is ultimately unsuccessful, resulting in injustice towards others. King Learis defined by the figurehead monarch s quest for what he sees as justice for himself. After Goneril and Regan betray him by refusing to house his nights, King Lear calls upon the heavens avenge him and punish his daughters with a storm. O heavens, he implores, If you do love old men, if your sweet sway Show obedience, if you yourselves are old, Make it your cause. Send down, and take my part (2.4.217 220). These lines, uttered in the raw emotion of a man who feels wronged by those he loves, are representative of Lear s temper and distress when things don t go his way. One of the major causes of mortality among infections acquired at the hospital is VAP. Once a patient develops VAP he/she will have to spend to longer amount of time in the ICU (Rello et al.,1996). Background of study It has been found that the chances of developing nosocomial pneumonia is reduced by situating seriously ill ventilated patients in a semi recumbent position. The goal of this experiment is to compare and contrast between the effects of the present standard degree of bed head elevation (i.e. 25 В°) and 45В° elevation on the occurrence of VAP. The incidence of VAP can be prevented/reduced in the hospitals by taking nursing measures. Elevation of head of bed is one among them. Nurses should maintain the angle of 45 degree of bed head elevation all times to reduce the risk of aspiration. The flat position increases the risk of aspiration. The main purpose of this study is to understand whether or not increasing the standard degree of bed head elevation will help minimize the occurrence of VAP. Methods of study The method adopted was quantitative in nature, using a randomized controlled trial. In order to achieve this, 71 adult patients were assessed for eligibility and among this 59 met the given criteria. They were randomly categorized into treatment groups consisting of 29 patients and a control group consisting of 27 patients.
