Letter To Zeitoun
As a student of Mills High School, I am writing you this letter in hopes that you will consider my
position on the continued authorization of Zeitoun being read at Mills. In the best interest of the
student body of Mills, I firmly believe that Zeitoun should continue as summer reading due to the
numerous positive effects it can have on students.
Despite the now verified illegal actions of the main character, Abdulrahman Zeitoun, after the book s
publication, Zeitoun still serves its original purpose of illustrating discrimination towards Muslims in
order to educate Americans of the prevalence of Islamophobia in a post 9/11 society. Zeitoun, as a
Syrian American, and his wife Kathy, a converted Muslim, have both endured the negative
consequences of Islamophobia. However, days after Hurricane Katrina, Zeitoun s heroic actions such
as navigating the flood waters in order to rescue others, were disregarded when he and his friends
were arrested on the fictitious charge of looting and the assumption of a connection to radical Islamic
groups due to the common stereotype of all Muslims being radicals. This ... Show more content on

Upon discovering the indictment of Zeitoun, students, like I have, begin to develop caution in reading
text that only shows one point of view. Instead of aimlessly reading bodies of text, students learn to
question the integrity of the piece and keep an open mind by having to consider another point of view
or other factors that may affect the writing. Additionally, Eggers employs many rhetorical strategies to
accomplish his purpose, thus allowing students to further practice analyzing and understanding the use
rhetorical strategies in achieving a purpose. These skills can then be put into use through rhetorical
analysis or argumentative essays, such as in the AP English Language and Composition test or the

Why Is Kpop Popular
Korean Pop (K Pop) Lately, it seems that South Korea is making a mark of its own in the world,
besides the fact that South Korea has a booming tech industry. The fact is that South Korea is making
a name for itself due to the successful music industry. Since the fact that K pop has spread to many
different countries many Koreans are calling this the Korean Wave (Choi 1). So, what exactly is
Korean pop or K pop for short is that recently it has become a global craze, appealing to teens all
around the world despite the language barriers. The reason for K pop s popularity is the fact that it has
been noted to be due to individual talent. Although it s hard to say that since it seems of late that many
artists are being widely manufactured by many Korean music companies. Unlike America or even the
UK being a singer is a very tough business in Korea. Many teenagers line up to various companies and
try and audition and even if they are able to enter the company many of these students have to find
time to go to school and train their vocal, and dance skills. Not only that but many companies make it
a requirement for these trainees to learn another language whether it be Chinese, or Japanese and
sometimes English. Another reason to K pop s popularity is the fact we are in the digital age so many
of these K pop companies post their group s music video on YouTube which has helped immensely to
attract so many audiences around the world. Then there s Twitter, and Instagram for

The Tourism Industry In Queensland
1.0 Introduction
Tourism is a key player in the development of any nation because of the revenue that the industry
accrues as well as the exchange of social and political ideologies between the tourists and the
populace. As such, tourism in the Queensland has been a major player in the economic, social and
political development of the nation (Schaffer 2010). The tourism industry has set up measures to meet
the increasing and sophisticated needs of tourists in all tourism sectors through identification of niche
markets then developed best tourism products for such markets (Hayes 2010). This paper therefore
identifies a tourism sector in the Queensland hospitality industry and explores the market coverage,
challenges and solutions that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This group handles over half a million tourists per year with 20 per cent of them being sport tourists.
The AOT branch that deals with sports tourists in Queensland is located in Brisbane, the capital of
Queensland. AOT has its own accommodation resorts in many sport resorts that are fully equipped
with all tours products and services. However, the increasing number of sports tourists in Queensland
has been a challenge to AOT in trying to service all of them. This increase in market segment has
strained the management of the tours company leading to outsourcing some of the services such as
accommodation and travel agents.
3.2 Australia Online Tour Operator
This is another inbound tour operator in both Australia and neighboring New Zealand. This tour
operator has a firm value for quality and customer satisfaction which has placed it in a very
competitive position in the tourism industry. It has vibrant network of travel agents and
accommodation hotels throughout the two countries that pursues its purpose of customer satisfaction.
Australia online has been receiving a lot of cricket and skiing tourists from different areas in the world
through its wide range of accommodation for all budgets in different parts of Queensland that include
lodges, hotels, island resorts, guest houses, apartments and farm stays. Like many other sport tourism
operators, Australian online has an increasing number of visitors every year which puts pressure on

Essay On Caravaggesque
Artemisia Gentileschi and her art are finally receiving deserved scholarly attention. While much
remains to be written about her, a great deal has been done to clarify her oeuvre since Roberto Longhi
s pioneering efforts in 1916. Some of the underlying assumptions that guided Longhi in his evaluation
of Artemisia Gentileschi and his attempt to set forth an oeuvre for her still dominate our thinking
about her art. Primary among them is Artemisia s role as a caravaggesca, that is, her place as a
follower of Caravaggio. In fact, initial viewing and evaluations of her work were done in the context
of Caravaggio: before 1991, her work was seen almost exclusively in exhibitions devoted to assessing
Caravaggio s influence and in surveys of his followers.
Caravaggio was a revolutionary artist who used nature as the primary model in his paintings by
recording the imperfections of the physical world and its inhabitants. Caravaggio s influence is
credited with luring other artists to follow him in his use of darkened grounds and the substitution of
the commonplace for more nobly conceived figures in idealized settings. The term caravaggesque,
however, encompasses a range of qualities, including the recreation of tactile surfaces, the use of
focused light sources that penetrate darkened interiors to bring isolated figures and objects into raised
relief, the practice of designing and then painting compositions directly onto the canvas without
preparatory drawings, and the

Weary Blues By Langston Hughes
Poetry is a form of literature that is expressive and can sometimes communicate a message more
effectively than prose. It can be filled with literary elements and vivid language that can help poets
relay their message to the readers. What is fascinating about poetry, is that each poem can relate to a
person in multiple ways. In the poems Harlem and Weary Blues Langston Hughes uses language that
effectively communicates the overall themes of both poems and relates to the African American
experience at the time. The literary elements used in Harlem help Langston Hughes effectively
communicate the overall theme of dreams and its relation to the African American experience. The
poem Harlem is about a deferred dream and what happens to ... Show more content on

The poem Weary Blues is about a black man singing the blues and how he uses the music to portray
his life. The usage of similes, metaphors, and personification enhance the poem and allows for Hughes
message to effectively be conveyed. In line 10 Hughes writes, He made the poor piano moan with
melody. The usage of personification in this line gives the piano human characteristics and readers can
understand that the music the African American is playing is melancholy. The dramatic personification
clearly sets the mood of the poem. Line 10 is a metaphor as well, describing the piano as a poor piano
which helps create an image for the reader. From the poem and its expressive language, readers find
out that the man is singing the blues, which is known to be a sad and depressing genre. Throughout the
poem, the black man is singing about his life and how it s filled with loneliness, troubles, and
unhappiness. This was probably a common feeling throughout many African Americans at the time
due to social restrictions and their suppressed lives. In line 35 Hughes writes, He slept like a rock or a
man that s dead. The powerful simile here ends the poem in an effective way. He slept like a rock
shows that the man s sleep was so deep and or man that s dead shows that it was as if he weren t even
alive. In line 30 the man sings,

Tim Tebow Religious Beliefs
Tim Tebow, Colin Kaepernick, and Kurt Warner are popular outspoken athletes who express their
personal beliefs on the field. Some fans love these athletes expressing their beliefs on the field, but
some of their outspoken beliefs are a distraction. Their expression of beliefs have led to more athletes
making their personal beliefs known, but not every athlete s personal belief on the field are about
religion. The outspoken beliefs of athletes should be banned from professional sports if sports fans
believe it is such a problem, but when they do that they should discourage athletes from having any
sort of tattoo on them. Professional athletes sharing their personal and religious beliefs on the field,
should not be outlawed by sports coaches to express themselves with their personal belief that include
religious tattoos on the field, because professional athletes sharing their personal and religious beliefs
on the field distract fans from the game. One of these popular athletes is Tim Tebow, acknowledged by
many as the greatest player in the history of college football. Tebow went onto play in the National
Football League for the Denver Broncos and New York Jets and his popularity provided a platform
that he used became expression for his faith. After being traded by the Denver Broncos in 2012, his
number fifteen has become the league s highest selling jersey. After the Denver Broncos traded Tebow
to the New York Jets in early 2012, Tebow continued to be featured in

Ludwig Van Beethoven
When I was young I always heard the name, Ludwig van Beethoven. As I started my journey as a
musician, I was introduced to learning about composers. A composer is a person who writes music,
especially as a profession. One of the names that always stood out to me was Ludwig van Beethoven,
maybe because of the movie Beethoven from my childhood.
Throughout some point in Beethoven s lifetime, he became one of Europe s greatest classical
composers. Only Mozart and Bach have similar phenomenal reputations first Bach, then Mozart, and
then the renownedly known Beethoven.
Ludwig van Beethoven was born on December 16, 1770 (as his birth record is missing) in Bonn,
Germany. Despite growing up in a troubled home caused by his alcoholic father, Beethoven inherited

Brilliant Beethoven wanted to be someone known, as he found ways to incorporate emotion into his
work. His newly found techniques and the amount of love he had for music was what other fellow
composers lacked. Breaking the rules of western music, Beethoven was able to connect the Classical
era to the Romantic. As a result of his musical style, he made a bridge between the two eras mentioned
above. Not only did Ludwig begin composing in the Classical era, which brought music to its highest
expressive level, expanding in formal, structural, harmonic terms the musical style created by
composers such as Mozart and Haydn Works throughout the middle periods were more forward
looking, which brought emotion in the play of music, hence the beginning of the Romantic era. This
then inspired other composers to follow or take ideas from his footsteps. Near the end of his
composing, Beethoven was nearly deaf. Yet, he managed to create pieces characterized by harmonic
and formal structures. Despite, causing a ripple in the Romantic era, Beethoven still followed the
fundamental formal paradigms that made classical music

Racial Alienation InDistrict 9, Directed By Neill Blomkamp
District 9, a science fiction film directed by Neill Blomkamp, was released in 2009 based on the
events that took place in South Africa from 1948 to 1994 also known as Apartheid. The movie was
filmed entirely in South Africa and is about an alien spaceship that stalled above Johannesburg twenty
years before the movie takes place. On the spaceship is helpless and starving aliens, also known as
prawns due to their love of scavenging and their physical appearance. The word prawn actually comes
from the parktown prawn , which is a cricket down in South Africa that is considered a pest. The
aliens were hauled together in an area known as District 9 . The film is presented in a found footage
format by featuring some fictional footage along with some real interviews and news footage.
Blomkamp uses several themes in this movie, like racial segregation, alienation, and xenophobia.
These three themes are applied throughout the movie to give a direct correlation between District 9
and the events that took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 1960 to 1983.
Between the years of 1960 and 1983, 3.5 million nonwhite South Africans were removed from their
homes and forced into segregated neighbourhoods, one of the largest mass removals in modern
history. Specifically in 1966, sixty thousand nonwhite South Africans were taken out of an area known
as District 6 , where nonwhites were the majority population, and relocated to the Cape Flats Area.
This area was known as the dumping

Comparing Enuma Elish And The Serpent In Genesis
The world is filled with billions of people and we have created myths to describe the creation of the
universe and these human beings that live there. The myth Enuma Elish depicts the creation of our
world and of humans, and Creation in Genesis describes how we became a part of this planet. Now
with the billions of people on this planet there are people that lie, cheat, steal, and trick; at some point
in our lives we are going to come across a person that does one or all of those things. Just as people do
those things to us, gods in these myths did these things to each other. The one that stands out the most
in that list is tricking; these people and the god Ea in Enuma Elish and the Serpent in Genesis are
clever and full of wisdom in finding ways to deceive others. As defined in the class, Tricksters tend to
be amoral, that is, they operate under their own moral code. Simply meaning, they see what they want
and make up their own rules to benefit them along the way. In both Enuma Elish and Genesis, these
tricksters transform the world around them and are themselves transformed. Both of these works ...

It is not stated exactly in the novel why he tricked Eve into eating the fruit but it does says, Now that

was happening around them, but were kicked out of the garden not being able to eat another piece of
fruit from the gardens. One tree that stands out the most is the Tree of Life which would grant them
immortality. From reading the novel the reader can assume that the Serpent did this so no human
could obtain immortality, thus limiting the amount of gods and ultimately assist in the creating of the
human beings and the pains that they would go through such as childbirth and harvesting

Isis of Egypt The Egyptian Goddess Isis, whom is the Goddess of Health, Marriage, and Wisdom, has
been widely worshipped amongst many religions throughout history seeing as her influence was able
to spread outside Egypt as Isis s influence spread also to the Greco Roman world as well. The contrast
of her worship in the Egyptian world and the Greco Roman world is particularly fascinating as her
worship had evolved over the course of time. In each of these time periods, as her worship continued
temples were built in her name in Egypt and in Greece. The origins of Isis aren t entirely known,
however the first evidence of Isis was found in the fifth dynasty in the sun temple of Niuserre. Even
though this is the first evidence of Isis, some like Maria Muenster makes the case that Isis was the
oldest of the gods, and that she came before the Old Kingdom of Egypt, There, in the beginning was
Isis. Oldest of the old, she was the goddess from whom all Becoming arose. And later continues to
say, In all her great and wonderful works she was a wiser magician and more excellent than any other
god. This all remains to be speculation however, since her claims are based on a lack of archaeological
evidence. Isis s elusive origins remains a common topic in Ancient Egypt history. Isis s name means
throne, and as she is depicted in the Ancient Egyptian culture, her headdress is a throne. Isis was a
representation of

Essay on Running Record Analysis
Every day teachers are required to make decisions before, during and after teaching. Some of these
decisions will seem small and insignificant and others will have far reaching consequences. All of the
assessment undertaken and subsequent decisions made can potentially enhance teaching and influence
student learning outcomes for the better (Brady amp; Kennedy, 2009). There are numerous things to
be assessed and various methods for assessing. One example of this is the assessment of reading. A
Running Record is one method of assessing a child s reading (Hill, 2012). The running record allows
the teacher to note a child s reading behaviour as he or she reads from a chosen text. It examines both

In this instance it seems to contribute to James being able to read almost the entire text correctly. By
the time James reaches the fifth line of the text he seems to have worked out he can predict the
language of the text using his memory for the text and meaning information he ascertains from the
illustrations (Hill, 2012).
At line 16 James makes an error reading The little bear instead of The teddy bear . Given the repetitive
and predictable nature of the preceding text it may be concluded that James is using meaning cues
from the illustrations to work out the sentence will be about a bear coupled with what he already
knows about the text; that little was used in all previous sentences to describe each object. James has
worked out that this text uses both images and print to convey meaning (Holliday, 2008).
James appears to be using limited cross checking behaviours. Self correction behaviour is nil, at least
in this instance. Evidence shows he is using mostly meaning and visual cues and not drawing on
structural cues. As a result of not utilising all the sources of information afforded by the text his
understanding and comprehension of the text is quite limited and there is no evidence he has really
connected with the text. In recent years there has been much research on reading

The Effect Of Scaffolds On Bone Tissue Engineering
Development of scaffolds plays a vital role in bone tissue engineering in order to repair, regenerate
tissues by mimicking of natural bone extracellular matrixes. Considering that bone is a composite of
minerals and proteins, it is preferred to develop a composite that mimics natural bone. The ideal
nanocomposite materials should have biocompatibility, suitable mechanical and antimicrobial
properties, nontoxicity and surface functionality to favor cell proliferation.1,2
Many organic inorganic materials have been developed to mimic natural bone which is composed of
inorganic hydroxyapatite (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) and organic collagen fibrils. Among these, chitosan
(CTS) and hydroxyapatite (HAP) has been selected extensively due to their excellent biocompatibility
with human body.3 CTS is a natural bidegradable polysaccharide, served as the best bioactive
biomaterials in bone grafting and well known for their excellent biocompatibility with the human
body environment. CTS composed of glucosamine and N acetylglucosamine units, linked in β (1 4)
manner, obtained from chitin by partial or complete deacetylation. It is flexible in nature and has a
resistance upon heating. CTS is excellent biomaterial due to its biocompatibility, biodegradability, non
toxicity and non immunogenicity.4,5 HAP has attracted much attention as a biomaterial because its
chemical composition is identical to that of human bone. HAP is a highly biocompatible, biostable and

Cultural Aspects Of Cultural Identity

of person you are and the way you see others. it plays a big role in life and there are lots of aspects
such as religion, language, racial identity, values and gender. Those aspects define your cultural
identity.
One of the cultural aspects that I will talk about has impacted my life the most which is my religion
and that religion is christianity. When I was one month old my parents took me to church for the first

The first tier is the green backdrop with the title of the film and the mains stars. Then the sequence
moves to the second tier while still showing the credits the stars of the film it fades into the Manhattan
building, setting the scene as well as giving us a sense of where we are. Then finally it fades into the
busy streets of people hustling and bustling through the streets. This sets the scene for the viewer and
gives the viewer an idea of what to expect throughout the movie. The music used in North by
Northwest is used to incite tension within a shot a clear example of this is during the Mount Rushmore
chase where Kendal and Thornhill were running away from VanDamm and his men. The consistent

A Doll s House By Henrik Ibsen
Realism is a theatrical movement during the 19th century, illustrating a story without artificial and
supernatural elements, in other words, a realism play would show things that happen in our everyday
life, much like naturalism. We can distinguish realism from other theatrical movements by the facts
that its characters are believable to be the everyday type, the costumes are authentic to the time period
being illustrated, the setting is based in only one location that is as close to our everyday life as
possible, and because the story happens within 24 hours and only has one story line.
There are many similarities between realism and naturalism. Some of those similarities are that both
genres illustrate events that could happen in real ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although it was not until the mid 1900 that modern realism really emerged. By the 1950s, the box set
with three walls was introduced and popularized. The box set is a way to stage something so that it
creates the illusion of an interior room on the stage.
An important name during the modern realism movement is Henrik Ibsen. Ibsen is now considered the
founder of modern realism. Ibsen owes his title to his most famous play A Doll s House featuring the
the taboo and deep seeded unrest in women of the time (1). In other words, Ibsen illustrated the
everyday lives of his middle class audience.
In doing so, Ibsen was soon followed by the Russians Chekhov and Gorky. Both writers were
founders of the socialist realism, which is a style with the purpose of spreading the goals of socialism
and communism. Chekhov and Gorky wrote about the boredom of the uneventful lives of the middle
class, and later on they would portray the poorest classes as a suffering and working class. Gorky
wrote The Lower Depths , which illustrated the working class and their living conditions. On the other
hand, Chekhov wrote Three Sisters or even The Lady With the Dog , which portrayed the life of the
middle class. All of those plays are now considered masterpieces of the socialist realism

Characteristics Of The English Language Learners
1. There are many types of diversity. List two types and explain how those affect students reading
abilities.
Linguistic diversity is when a student s first language is not the language of instruction at school.
According to Garcia, American Standard English is seen as a vital tool for success in the United States
which affects reading abilities of English language learners. Since the implantation of No Child Left
Behind and Common Core, English language learners have to a second language and complex
academic materials. Teacher have to understand the English language learners face unique challenges
when learning to read and have limited background and vocabulary restrictions.
Cultural diversity is the situation that results when a student s home, family, socioeconomic group,
culture, and society differ from the predominant culture of the school. It is closely related to linguistic
diversity. The student s language is related to culture. When the language that the students uses at
home is different at school, it affects the child ability to communicate which affects the student s
reading ability.
2. There are four instructional approaches that schools use to transform the curriculum in order to
make accommodations for students who are culturally diverse. List and explain two approaches.
The transformative approach is when teachers provide opportunities for students to read about
concepts and events. It is more social, and students read and discuss cultural

Cosmopolitanism Essay
The ideal society for many of us is a place in which mutual respect exists for all. A place where
despite our different perspective and beliefs we can come together and coexist in peace. This ideology
is called cosmopolitanism. The idea of a cosmopolitan society has been around for thousands of years,
it has created controversial arguments on whether its principles could benefit our community by
helping us achieve a deeper level of understanding towards one another. Throughout the world, there
are disputes because of our different perspectives and values. What if we could mitigate conflicts by
integrating cosmopolitanism into our daily lives? In Appiah s text, Making Conversation, he
contributes fundamental ideas that could help society achieve and understand the notion of
cosmopolitanism. Many cultures hold beliefs contrary to ours. In many cases, these practices can be
taboo to us but acceptable to others. Cosmopolitanism is the solution to our conflicts that stem from a
disparate set of views of how things should occur. Applying the notion of cosmopolitanism can aid us
in our quest to understand and respect others, take into account our differences, and remain open
minded to the diverse ways of living life.
In, Making Conversations, Appiah explains that in the past, our population was much smaller than
what it is today. The immense strain on methods of communication hindered our ability to further
interact with others. However, this is no longer the case in our

The Gladiator Of The Roman Empire

Roman Gladiators
The Romans liked watching other people die; their gladiator games were there live entertainment. It is
believed that the first gladiators were slaves who were made to fight to the death at the funeral of a
famous aristocrat, Junius Brutus Pera, in 264 BC. The fight between the two was arranged in his
honor. Gradually the gladiator games became separated from funeral ceremonies and were staged by
the wealthy as a means of displaying their power and influence among the people in the local
community. The wealthy and elite classes could promote themselves by sponsoring the games, and
paying to put the show on. The term Gladiator comes from the term gladius after the Roman sword.
The gladiators were mostly prosecuted criminals, imprisoned soldiers and slaves. These people would
be forced to fight other prisoners, sometimes until their death in the case that it was decided for him to
die, usually by the spectators. Rarely gladiators would be free, men would sometimes volunteer to be a
gladiator and take on the status of a slave to reap the benefits of fame that came along with the title,
the fans and money .But the most likely reason why people volunteered was the down payment that a
volunteer received upon taking the gladiator oath. When this oath was taken it meant that the owner
the now gladiator had total control over the gladiator s life, making him lowered the status of a slave.
Gladiators were known for

Donald Gaskin s Serial Killers
Donald Gaskin may be one of America s most notorious serial killers, possibly killing over fifty men,
women, and children, but the courts only convicted him of eight murders. One might say how could
he get away with so many murders? The answer is multifarious, and as Fox and Levin dictated in
Extreme Killing It is difficult to gauge the full extent of serial homicides. Because of complexities in
linking murders committed by the same perpetrator but at different times and even places, no precise
estimate of a serial killer is even possible (Fox Levin, 2005). Forensic psychologists attempt to catch
serial killers by profiling them based on the crime scene and the killer s childhood, yet Gaskins was
not a typical serial killer because his motives to kill altered from profit to sadistic thrills. Customers
often paid him to kill their cheating spouse, enemy, or even parent, making it a full time profession for
Gaskins, but he often killed for the sadistic thrills and power due to his terrible childhood. Gaskins
childhood was far from perfect. He was born out of wedlock and never knew his biological father. He
grew up in a small three bedroom shack in Florence County, South Carolina. His mother rarely
supervised him, and at the age of one, he drank a bottle of kerosene, causing him to have convulsions
until the age of three. His mother married multiple men, and each of the men would randomly beat
Gaskins, sometimes till he was unconscious. The brain damage he experienced as

What Is Radical Reconstruction Radical
Radical Reconstruction was seen as radical. This was because of how big of an extent people apart of
Radical Reconstruction were trying to transform the South. Congress passed the Reconstruction Acts
of 1867 68, the Second Reconstruction Act, and these acts were seen as controlling since the North
almost had utter control of policy making within Congress. However, Radical Reconstruction was also
seen as not radical. This was due to people apart of Radical Reconstruction as seen to be trying to
institute order in the South. People started to view Radical Reconstruction this way after the Memphis
and New Orleans Riots of 1866. Radical Reconstruction was radical due to the North taking advantage
of their power and making an attempt in completely changing the South. One act congress established
in order to change the South was the Reconstruction Acts of 1867 68. This act enforced military
government and rule within the South excluding Tennessee. This demanded universal manhood
suffrage. There were 10 abiding states and these states were separated into 5 military districts. About

youth should not be put under the illusion that winning is as easy as one, two, three. Based on her
information, receiving an achievement should be earned instead of given. She stresses the fact that
constant praise and awards for possible effortless doings will result in a mindset that believes that
putting effort into something will not matter in the end because of the expected praise. With that being
said, she believes that constant awarding will lead to underachievement and poor problem solving
skills. I do agree with what Merryman is

Why The American Diet Is The Key Factor Of Weight Loss
A somber fact that exists in American society is that thousands of Americans search for the unreal
dream of becoming thin. Every day someone is on a new diet, whether it d be your neighbors, friends,
or even your relatives. Dieters acquire many disguises such as the bandwagoner , and the promise
maker . Some Americans want to lose weight quickly and conveniently; therefore, a trendy diet
attracts the bandwagoner. The new, inexpensive fees at the gym might attract the promise maker, who
typically promises to go to the gym an ample amount of times each week. Although several of the
different dieters are successful, the majority of the bandwagoners and promise makers don t succeed.
Even though there are several different ways to lose weight, according to the ACE (American Council
on Exercise), Diet is the main key factor of weight loss .
With the idea of weight loss being significant in American society, companies have taken full
advantage by creating supplements that vow to help with reducing body fat. Hydroxycut, a company
that advertises their dietary supplements, use creative slogans that lure their friends, the bandwagoners
to their hotline. Slogans such as: You ve never looked better in black! jumble with people s emotions
in a positive way, making them more prone to buying these products. Hydroxycut s main focus is the
production of caffeine capsules; these capsules stimulate appetite while giving a boost of energy.

assignments, I am fully confident with my ability to have a paper that flows. Another thing that I
struggled with was organization. Although I still have a lot of improvement to make, I think this
aspect of my writing has improved. One of the things that helped me immensely was creating an

Simone De Beauvoir Female Circumcision
Female Genital Cutting and Western Influence Female Genital Mutilation is practiced in parts of
Africa, Asia, and the Middle East as a way for girls to be inducted into womanhood. This medical
procedure is extremely controversial for it goes against many westernized feminist ideologies. Though
seemingly hurtful and damaging towards the women in these cultures, there are still large amounts of
girls who willingly chose to have this done to them. This conflict of opinions of what is right and what
is wrong to do to women s genitalia has been contested for a long time, and the answer to this question
has not been solved. For one, the answer of what is moral in this situation is different and divided
among all different cultures and societies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Feminists such as Simone de Beauvoir who states in The Second Sex, that women are considered the
other to men. De Beauvoir notices how men have been constituted as the positive and neutral in many
societies, which leaves women to be the subordinate nothing. She states, She is simply what man
decrees; thus she is called the sex , by which is meant that she appears essentially to the male as a
sexual being (De Beauvoir 3). This is how many feminists view female circumcision, which entails
three different types of surgeries. The first, clitoridectomy, is the cutting off of the clitoris; excision is
the removal of both the clitoris and the inner labia; while infibulation, is the removal of both the inner
and outer labia usually along with the clitoris (www.who.int). It is clear that some form of sexual
repression and patriarchy is opposed upon women when they chose to undergo anyone of these types
of procedures. However, with the idea that this is done to women to suppress their sexual desires, then
why are so millions of women still choosing to have it done to them? It is clear that the tradition may
impose itself upon them, but they still have a chose of whether or not to have their vaginas
reconstructed. The idea is that many women in such cultures that have the option of having this
surgery done to them do not see it as oppressive; instead they see it as empowering. What we might
find to be oppressive in nature may have a completely different meaning to a culture different then
ours. This is what I wish to emphasize, that though it may be difficult to separate ourselves from our
opinions, we do not give a chance to allow these women who undergo these surgeries to express

This requirement might deter new entrants.
2. Low product differentiation and economies of scale: There isn t much product differentiation at play
in the retail industry as there are well known manufacturers whose products are offered for sale, which
leaves price to compete on. Current well established retailers with thousands of stores enjoy the
economies of scale to control their cost that a new entrant might not be able to replicate after
immediately entering the industry.
3. Switching Cost: If there is anything that can go in favor of a new entrant is switching cost of the
buyer. Only loyalty buyers typically have these days is to value. If a new entrant can offer better value,
buyers can switch to the new entrant with no switching cost. Better value can only come from
sacrificing profits which might deter new entrants as a low profit margin does not promises long term
growth.
Force 2 Bargaining Power of Buyers (customers):
Companies in the retail industry operate in a high price elasticity environment as there is not much
product differentiation to leverage. Buyers face almost no switching cost if they chose a substitute
offering better value. On the contrary, large and diverse population making small purchases works in
favor of the industry. No one individual or a small group has the power to significantly impact the
industry, but overall buyers enjoy have a high bargaining power in the industry.

Analysis of Friedrich Nietzsche´s Book 5 of The Gay...
Friedrich Nietzsche s own skepticism symbolized the secular changes in contemporary Western
civilization, in which he details mankind s break away from faith into a new rule of chaos. In Book 5
of The Gay Science, Nietzsche establishes that God is dead , meaning that modern Europe has
abandoned religion in favor of rationality and science (Nietzsche 279). From this death, the birth of a
new infinite blossoms in which the world is open to an unlimited amount of interpretations that do not
rely on the solid foundations of faith in religion or science. However, in contrast to the other
philosophers of his age such as Immanuel Kant and Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Nietzsche
deviates from the omniscient determinism of history towards a ... Show more content on

Despite such claims, Nietzsche criticizes this mistaken idea that the knowledge of the universe can be
comprehended by any method; he argues that not even the most scrupulously conscientious analysis
and self examination of the intellect cannot successfully interpret the progressive history of the world
as the human intellect cannot avoid seeing itself in [only] its perspectives (Nietzsche 336). To
Nietzsche, Kant and Hegel s attempts to find truth in history is faulty because faith is just now found
in science and reasoning rather than religion. What Kant and Hegel fail to realize is that the human
race s separation from this faith gave rise to our new infinite , in which the world has become infinite
for [humanity] all over again, inasmuch as we cannot reject the possibility that it may include infinite
interpretations (Nietzsche 336). Thus the new infinite is self consciously made by the individual
members of humanity itself, as we can now independently interpret the world ourselves as we see fit.
Nietzsche declares that even if some of these interpretations may include too much devilry, stupidity
and foolishness , it does not matter because it does not rely on faith (Nietzsche 336). The new infinite
that arises is ours, in which the abundance of perspectives is too overwhelming for any scholar to give
meaning to such chaos. There is no logical reason how such disorder should

The Descent into a Digital Culture
The Descent into a Digital Culture In this century our culture is changing rapidly. Just in the last 30
years alone our scientific understanding, technological achievements, and fragmentation of values has
transformed faster than in the previous 100 years alone. With our express style culture change, one has
to wonder what will be said about our culture another hundred years in the future. What is the one
thing that has defined us as who we are? A section on our slow ascent into socialism may be in order,
or maybe a chapter on our obsession with going green. However, I would suggest that the first chapter

This has led to a culture in which one does not wait for something, but expects to receive whatever
they desire instantly. This did not just translate into knowledge or things we needed. The average
person in the U.S today no longer waits to save up the needed funds to buy a new flat screen or other
new widget. Instead they finance it or put it on credit. Like their digital life on the internet they expect
it instantly. Our Descent into a Digital Culture of instant gratification has become part of who we are.
How can our digital culture be explained without our sudden need to cease communication with
others. That is unless it involves a smartphone or a twitter page. The previous generations of the
United States use to socialize at social events and would even go out and visit people that they wanted
to talk to. Sometimes they would actually put their thoughts down a piece of dried would pulp and
mail it. The digital culture that ours has become carries out these tasks in a rather different fashion. In
modern times social events can be defined as a group chat on Facebook. As far as visiting other human
beings, who needs to when there is twitter. Writing letters has become a very archaic form of
communication replaced by email. In our present culture most believe that the entire social stimulus
that one requires can be found on Facebook or Snap chat. This new found lack of human contact,
caused by the digital culture, has caused

The Impact Of Dutch Colonization On Indonesia
Introduction:
The indigenous groups of Indonesia went to brutal extents in attempts to successfully fight for rights
and recognition from results of Dutch colonisation. The Dutch colonised Indonesia in 1677,
completely taking over the government. Significant figures involved; the different islands of
Indonesia, the Dutch East India Company, and the battles Indonesia went to in order to gain back their
independence. Long term impacts of the Dutch colonisation upon Indonesia improved and modernised
the lives of Indonesian people but as a result of traumatic and gruesome mistreatment of the
indigenous culture.
Pre colonization:
Before Western European influences had power over Southeast Asia, what is known as Indonesia used
to be an archipelago which consisted of individual islands and plantations ruled by different empires.

  • 2. Letter To Zeitoun As a student of Mills High School, I am writing you this letter in hopes that you will consider my position on the continued authorization of Zeitoun being read at Mills. In the best interest of the student body of Mills, I firmly believe that Zeitoun should continue as summer reading due to the numerous positive effects it can have on students. Despite the now verified illegal actions of the main character, Abdulrahman Zeitoun, after the book s publication, Zeitoun still serves its original purpose of illustrating discrimination towards Muslims in order to educate Americans of the prevalence of Islamophobia in a post 9/11 society. Zeitoun, as a Syrian American, and his wife Kathy, a converted Muslim, have both endured the negative consequences of Islamophobia. However, days after Hurricane Katrina, Zeitoun s heroic actions such as navigating the flood waters in order to rescue others, were disregarded when he and his friends were arrested on the fictitious charge of looting and the assumption of a connection to radical Islamic groups due to the common stereotype of all Muslims being radicals. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Upon discovering the indictment of Zeitoun, students, like I have, begin to develop caution in reading text that only shows one point of view. Instead of aimlessly reading bodies of text, students learn to question the integrity of the piece and keep an open mind by having to consider another point of view or other factors that may affect the writing. Additionally, Eggers employs many rhetorical strategies to accomplish his purpose, thus allowing students to further practice analyzing and understanding the use rhetorical strategies in achieving a purpose. These skills can then be put into use through rhetorical analysis or argumentative essays, such as in the AP English Language and Composition test or the SAT ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Why Is Kpop Popular Korean Pop (K Pop) Lately, it seems that South Korea is making a mark of its own in the world, besides the fact that South Korea has a booming tech industry. The fact is that South Korea is making a name for itself due to the successful music industry. Since the fact that K pop has spread to many different countries many Koreans are calling this the Korean Wave (Choi 1). So, what exactly is Korean pop or K pop for short is that recently it has become a global craze, appealing to teens all around the world despite the language barriers. The reason for K pop s popularity is the fact that it has been noted to be due to individual talent. Although it s hard to say that since it seems of late that many artists are being widely manufactured by many Korean music companies. Unlike America or even the UK being a singer is a very tough business in Korea. Many teenagers line up to various companies and try and audition and even if they are able to enter the company many of these students have to find time to go to school and train their vocal, and dance skills. Not only that but many companies make it a requirement for these trainees to learn another language whether it be Chinese, or Japanese and sometimes English. Another reason to K pop s popularity is the fact we are in the digital age so many of these K pop companies post their group s music video on YouTube which has helped immensely to attract so many audiences around the world. This group handles over half a million tourists per year with 20 per cent of them being sport tourists. The AOT branch that deals with sports tourists in Queensland is located in Brisbane, the capital of Queensland. • 5. Essay On Caravaggesque Artemisia Gentileschi and her art are finally receiving deserved scholarly attention. While much remains to be written about her, a great deal has been done to clarify her oeuvre since Roberto Longhi s pioneering efforts in 1916. Some of the underlying assumptions that guided Longhi in his evaluation of Artemisia Gentileschi and his attempt to set forth an oeuvre for her still dominate our thinking about her art. Primary among them is Artemisia s role as a caravaggesca, that is, her place as a follower of Caravaggio. In fact, initial viewing and evaluations of her work were done in the context of Caravaggio: before 1991, her work was seen almost exclusively in exhibitions devoted to assessing Caravaggio s influence and in surveys of his followers. Caravaggio was a revolutionary artist who used nature as the primary model in his paintings by recording the imperfections of the physical world and its inhabitants. Caravaggio s influence is credited with luring other artists to follow him in his use of darkened grounds and the substitution of the commonplace for more nobly conceived figures in idealized settings. The term caravaggesque, however, encompasses a range of qualities, including the recreation of tactile surfaces, the use of focused light sources that penetrate darkened interiors to bring isolated figures and objects into raised relief, the practice of designing and then painting compositions directly onto the canvas without preparatory drawings, and the ... • 6. Weary Blues By Langston Hughes Poetry is a form of literature that is expressive and can sometimes communicate a message more effectively than prose. It can be filled with literary elements and vivid language that can help poets relay their message to the readers. What is fascinating about poetry, is that each poem can relate to a person in multiple ways. In the poems Harlem and Weary Blues Langston Hughes uses language that effectively communicates the overall themes of both poems and relates to the African American experience at the time. The literary elements used in Harlem help Langston Hughes effectively communicate the overall theme of dreams and its relation to the African American experience. The poem Harlem is about a deferred dream and what happens to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poem Weary Blues is about a black man singing the blues and how he uses the music to portray his life. The usage of similes, metaphors, and personification enhance the poem and allows for Hughes message to effectively be conveyed. In line 10 Hughes writes, He made the poor piano moan with melody. The usage of personification in this line gives the piano human characteristics and readers can understand that the music the African American is playing is melancholy. The dramatic personification clearly sets the mood of the poem. Line 10 is a metaphor as well, describing the piano as a poor piano which helps create an image for the reader. From the poem and its expressive language, readers find out that the man is singing the blues, which is known to be a sad and depressing genre. Throughout the poem, the black man is singing about his life and how it s filled with loneliness, troubles, and unhappiness. This was probably a common feeling throughout many African Americans at the time due to social restrictions and their suppressed lives. In line 35 Hughes writes, He slept like a rock or a man that s dead. The powerful simile here ends the poem in an effective way. He slept like a rock shows that the man s sleep was so deep and or man that s dead shows that it was as if he weren t even alive. In line 30 the man sings, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some fans love these athletes expressing their beliefs on the field, but some of their outspoken beliefs are a distraction. Their expression of beliefs have led to more athletes making their personal beliefs known, but not every athlete s personal belief on the field are about religion. Racial Alienation InDistrict 9, Directed By Neill Blomkamp District 9, a science fiction film directed by Neill Blomkamp, was released in 2009 based on the events that took place in South Africa from 1948 to 1994 also known as Apartheid. The movie was filmed entirely in South Africa and is about an alien spaceship that stalled above Johannesburg twenty years before the movie takes place. Comparing Enuma Elish And The Serpent In Genesis The world is filled with billions of people and we have created myths to describe the creation of the universe and these human beings that live there. The myth Enuma Elish depicts the creation of our world and of humans, and Creation in Genesis describes how we became a part of this planet. Now with the billions of people on this planet there are people that lie, cheat, steal, and trick; at some point in our lives we are going to come across a person that does one or all of those things. Just as people do those things to us, gods in these myths did these things to each other. The one that stands out the most in that list is tricking; these people and the god Ea in Enuma Elish and the Serpent in Genesis are clever and full of wisdom in finding ways to deceive others. As defined in the class, Tricksters tend to be amoral, that is, they operate under their own moral code. The contrast of her worship in the Egyptian world and the Greco Roman world is particularly fascinating as her worship had evolved over the course of time. In each of these time periods, as her worship continued temples were built in her name in Egypt and in Greece. The origins of Isis aren t entirely known, however the first evidence of Isis was found in the fifth dynasty in the sun temple of Niuserre. Even though this is the first evidence of Isis, some like Maria Muenster makes the case that Isis was the oldest of the gods, and that she came before the Old Kingdom of Egypt, There, in the beginning was Isis. Oldest of the old, she was the goddess from whom all Becoming arose. And later continues to say, In all her great and wonderful works she was a wiser magician and more excellent than any other god. This all remains to be speculation however, since her claims are based on a lack of archaeological evidence. Isis s elusive origins remains a common topic in Ancient Egypt history. All of the assessment undertaken and subsequent decisions made can potentially enhance teaching and influence student learning outcomes for the better (Brady amp; Kennedy, 2009). There are numerous things to be assessed and various methods for assessing. One example of this is the assessment of reading. Losing Is Good For You, By Ashely Merryman Loss Leads to Victory In the article Losing is Good for You , Ashely Merryman claims that children should not be given awards for something not worth an award such as participation. She states that our youth should not be put under the illusion that winning is as easy as one, two, three. Based on her information, receiving an achievement should be earned instead of given. She stresses the fact that constant praise and awards for possible effortless doings will result in a mindset that believes that putting effort into something will not matter in the end because of the expected praise. With that being said, she believes that constant awarding will lead to underachievement and poor problem solving skills. I do agree with what Merryman is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Every day someone is on a new diet, whether it d be your neighbors, friends, or even your relatives. Dieters acquire many disguises such as the bandwagoner , and the promise maker . Some Americans want to lose weight quickly and conveniently; therefore, a trendy diet attracts the bandwagoner. The new, inexpensive fees at the gym might attract the promise maker, who typically promises to go to the gym an ample amount of times each week. Although several of the different dieters are successful, the majority of the bandwagoners and promise makers don t succeed. Even though there are several different ways to lose weight, according to the ACE (American Council on Exercise), Diet is the main key factor of weight loss . When I first started this course, I was struggling with a lot of writing mechanisms. One of the things was transition. I was just writing without thinking of how to connect my thoughts. After completing numerous writing assignments, I am fully confident with my ability to have a paper that flows. Another thing that I struggled with was organization. Although I still have a lot of improvement to make, I think this aspect of my writing has improved. One of the things that helped me immensely was creating an outline before writing my paper. Another aspect of my writing that also improved has to do with run on sentences. I see a lot of changes in my writing and writing run on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Simone De Beauvoir Female Circumcision Female Genital Cutting and Western Influence Female Genital Mutilation is practiced in parts of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East as a way for girls to be inducted into womanhood. This medical procedure is extremely controversial for it goes against many westernized feminist ideologies. Though seemingly hurtful and damaging towards the women in these cultures, there are still large amounts of girls who willingly chose to have this done to them. This conflict of opinions of what is right and what is wrong to do to women s genitalia has been contested for a long time, and the answer to this question has not been solved. For one, the answer of what is moral in this situation is different and divided among all different cultures and societies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Feminists such as Simone de Beauvoir who states in The Second Sex, that women are considered the other to men. De Beauvoir notices how men have been constituted as the positive and neutral in many societies, which leaves women to be the subordinate nothing. She states, She is simply what man decrees; thus she is called the sex , by which is meant that she appears essentially to the male as a sexual being (De Beauvoir 3). This is how many feminists view female circumcision, which entails three different types of surgeries. The first, clitoridectomy, is the cutting off of the clitoris; excision is the removal of both the clitoris and the inner labia; while infibulation, is the removal of both the inner and outer labia usually along with the clitoris (www.who.int). It is clear that some form of sexual repression and patriarchy is opposed upon women when they chose to undergo anyone of these types of procedures. However, with the idea that this is done to women to suppress their sexual desires, then why are so millions of women still choosing to have it done to them? It is clear that the tradition may impose itself upon them, but they still have a chose of whether or not to have their vaginas reconstructed. The idea is that many women in such cultures that have the option of having this surgery done to them do not see it as oppressive; instead they see it as empowering. What we might find to be oppressive in nature may have a completely different meaning to a culture different then ours. This is what I wish to emphasize, that though it may be difficult to separate ourselves from our opinions, we do not give a chance to allow these women who undergo these surgeries to express ... Switching Cost: If there is anything that can go in favor of a new entrant is switching cost of the buyer. Only loyalty buyers typically have these days is to value. • 35. Analysis of Friedrich Nietzsche´s Book 5 of The Gay... Friedrich Nietzsche s own skepticism symbolized the secular changes in contemporary Western civilization, in which he details mankind s break away from faith into a new rule of chaos. In Book 5 of The Gay Science, Nietzsche establishes that God is dead , meaning that modern Europe has abandoned religion in favor of rationality and science (Nietzsche 279). From this death, the birth of a new infinite blossoms in which the world is open to an unlimited amount of interpretations that do not rely on the solid foundations of faith in religion or science. However, in contrast to the other philosophers of his age such as Immanuel Kant and Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Nietzsche deviates from the omniscient determinism of history towards a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite such claims, Nietzsche criticizes this mistaken idea that the knowledge of the universe can be comprehended by any method; he argues that not even the most scrupulously conscientious analysis and self examination of the intellect cannot successfully interpret the progressive history of the world as the human intellect cannot avoid seeing itself in [only] its perspectives (Nietzsche 336). To Nietzsche, Kant and Hegel s attempts to find truth in history is faulty because faith is just now found in science and reasoning rather than religion. What Kant and Hegel fail to realize is that the human race s separation from this faith gave rise to our new infinite , in which the world has become infinite for [humanity] all over again, inasmuch as we cannot reject the possibility that it may include infinite interpretations (Nietzsche 336). Thus the new infinite is self consciously made by the individual members of humanity itself, as we can now independently interpret the world ourselves as we see fit. Nietzsche declares that even if some of these interpretations may include too much devilry, stupidity and foolishness , it does not matter because it does not rely on faith (Nietzsche 336). The new infinite that arises is ours, in which the abundance of perspectives is too overwhelming for any scholar to give meaning to such chaos. There is no logical reason how such disorder should ...
