The Man He Killed Poem Analysis
Poetry is used to describe more than it is used to define. Poetry expresses feeling and emotions more
than just a detailed story. Poetry can be used to go deeper into someone s personal thoughts and
emotions. In Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? by William Shakespeare, The Whipping by
Robert Hayden, and The Man He Killed by Thomas Hardy are great examples of how inner emotions
can be revealed through poetry. The three selections also give examples of how they follow good
poetry. In Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? , Shakespeare is utterly honest about the person he
is referring to. By comparing someone to a summer s day, he includes the dislikes of a summer s day
just as much as he compares the likes. I liked how he was honest about the comparison to a summer s
day. When most people think of a summer s day, they think about the beautiful weather every day.
What most people don t think about is about the scorching hot temperatures that makes it unbearable
to even step outside. This poem is qualifies as a GOOD poem because it provides purpose. The
purpose it to distinguish the quality of a person s outlook with the ... Show more content on

The Whipping is one of those unhappy poems. This poems exalts many emotions and detail in such an
attractive manner. Being that I was well disciplined growing up, I can relate to this poem. The details
used to describe the scene are great examples of a good poem. Because Hayden used visual image to
describe the scene, it is easier to understand. The visual image of this poem puts the readers in the
shoes of the mother, the boy, and the person witnessing the whipping. Hayden used words such as
pursues and corners to explain the vigorousness of the whipping. Because he used phrases to describe
the emotion of each character, it pulled me closer to the poem. The overall visual image used in this
poem shows great emotion and visual background needed to be a great

Essay On Boo Radley
During the prejudiced and racially charged era of the 1930 s, attorney Atticus Finch from Maycomb,
Alabama finds himself defending an innocent black man falsely charged with rape. Meanwhile, his
son, Jem, and daughter, Scout, along with their friend, Dill, find themselves captivated by the rumors
plaguing their neighbor, the mysterious and elusive Arthur Boo Radley. It is an undisputed fact Scout,
Jem, and Dill persistently plague the Radleys with their childish antics. Some people feel the children
should not pursue the Radleys, while others believe the children should pursue the Radleys. The
children should pursue the Radleys for three reasons: Boo Radley saves the helpless children, events
serve as important lessons, and the children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A consistent theme throughout the book is that perspective is everything. Atticus Finch even tells them
this by saying, you never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view .
. . until you climb into his skin and walk around in it. As Scout is walking Boo Radley back to his
home after the attack, it dawns on her that Boo is not a monster, but simply a man with no desire to
interact with the outside world. She realizes that as she went about her everyday life fooling around on
the Radley property, walking to school, and playing games, Boo was observing all of this from his
own perspective. The events also teach the children innocence is not to be destroyed as Atticus
illustrates when he tells Scout and Jem it is a sin to kill a mockingbird, because they do nothing but
make pretty music for everyone to enjoy. Out of fear of tarnishing his own reputation, Bob Ewell
forces his daughter to falsely accuse a black man of raping her. The man was innocent, yet the jury
convicts him as guilty and sentences him to execution. As if that were not enough, Bob Ewell tries to
kill Scout and Jem, two innocent kids, merely because their father defended the innocent black man in
court. Boo s innocence becomes evident to Scout the moment the identity of their rescuer is revealed
as Boo, himself. She finally identifies Boo Radley as the mockingbird he always

Social Impact Of The American Revolution And The Haitian...
The Atlantic revolution, while not nearly as impactful as the industrial revolution, was still a major
event that effected the world. The Atlantic revolution greatest impact was felt culturally, socially, and
politically. The American revolution and the Haitian revolution had the biggest impact out of all the
Atlantic revolutions according to Laurent Dubois. His claim is further supported by ushistory.org. In
the article, it claims that the American revolution started a trans Atlantic Age of Revolution. Laurent
Dubois speaks more about the American revolution and the second most impactful revolution, the
Haitian revolution, in his article. Both of these revolutions make up the Atlantic revolution. However,

Now, they had to be seen as equal to the people who were never slaves. Finally, the abolishment of
slavery had a political impact because there was a new shift in power. Politically, slavery was legal at
first and people supported it. However, now that it s not legal, it called for a new leader who no longer
supports it. Haiti s independent is also proof of the political impact as it created a new country with its
political system separate from the French. According to DuBois s article, the American revolution did
not have a social impact because While the American Revolution represented a profound challenge to
imperial structures, it did not cause a true social revolution in North America, where colonial elites
became the new national elite. And despite the offers of freedom put forth by the British to enslaved
people who would fight for them, which many slaves took up, and the initiation of emancipation in
many northern states, slavery ultimately survived that revolution and even expanded and thrived in its
wake. He also said that the American revolution influenced the French revolution by ...putting forth
powerful new political ideologies and through the debts contracted by the French king in his support

Nitrogen, Carbon and Phosphorus Cycles Essay
Nitrogen, Carbon and Phosphorus Cycles
The carbon cycle deals with the interaction of carbon between living organisms and the nonliving
environment. This cycle is a process through which all carbon rotates. The main result of the carbon
cycle is to serve as a great natural recycler of carbon atoms.
The cycle works in a very basic way. First, carbon is taken from carbon dioxide found in the air. Plants
take in carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Plants absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and
use it, combined with water they get from the soil, to make substances they need for growth. The
carbon is then mixed with water. Carbon dioxide is then formed into sugar (glucose). The process of
photosynthesis incorporates the carbon atoms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carbon dioxide is very important in the atmosphere, however only in moderation. For centuries
humans have been burning coal, oil, and fossil fuels therefore releasing tons of carbon into the air. The
problem with this is that this can cause a problem known as global warming. This is a major climate
problem, which has series results on people and the environment. The result on people can be very
deadly. Too much carbon in the air can cause cancer.
The nitrogen cycle is extremely important. This is because of the importance of nitrogen itself.
Nitrogen is a basic element of life. It also makes up 78 percent of the Earth s atmosphere. It forms an
essential part of amino acids (which make up proteins) and DNA. Nitrogen is essential for all living
cells. The nitrogen cycle consists of 5 steps. First the basic element nitrogen in converted to ammonia.
This process is called nitrogen fixation. This process is done by nitrogen fixing bacteria. Then the
ammonia gets converted to nitrate. This process, called nitrification, is done by soil bacteria.
Assimilation is the third step. Here the ammonia and the nitrate are absorbed by plants.
Ammonification converts the nitrogen into ammonia. This process is done by ammonifying bacteria.
The final step is denitrification. Here the nitrate is converted back to nitrogen. Denitrifying bacteria
aid in this process.
Like all other elements, nitrogen is very important in life but in moderation. We sometimes cause an
overload

How Is God (Allah) Described In These Passages
1) How is God (Allah) described in these passages? What Muslim religious practices do they reveal?
These passages from the Qur an described Allah as an indivisible merciful God who guides Muslims.
Allah was described as the compassionate Lord of the Worlds, who is the king of the day of
judgement. These few statements revealed that the monolithic religion of Islam believes there is only
one true God that rules over everything, not multiple. Another practice that is revealed, was their
belief that God will guide Muslims in their daily lives, so that, they would reach Allah in heaven.
Other Islamic practices that were revealed through the Qur an: believing in the unseen, steadfast in
prayer, and giving alms to the poor.
2) What is the fate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those who were unbelievers, God set a seal upon their hearts and ears, and dimmed their vision,
leading to grievous woeful life. God took their sick hearts and makes them sicker, punishing them for
their disbelief. This did appear to be contradictory, as Muslims and the Qur an heavily emphasized
God s compassion and mercy. In this case, God was not showing mercy to the disbelievers,
contradicting the Qur an s initial statements about their belief of who God was.
3) What does this selection say about religious violence? What about nonreligious violence?
The Qur an stated that God does not love aggressors. The Qur an stated that you should fight for the
sake of God against those that fight against you, but only if they attack first. Upon being attacked, you
should slay them where you find them and drive them out of the places from where they drove you;
fight against them until God s religion reigns supreme. For nonreligious violence, the Qur an stated
mankind has the right to guard himself against evil, but only if the means are just; one should not
devour one s property by unjust means or be the first to attack.
4) How does the Qur an describe Jews and Christians? How does this selection criticize their beliefs?
How is Islam connected to Judaism and

Essay On Carbogenic Nanoparticles
THE AIMS OF THE RESEARCH
Carbogenic nanoparticles or as loosely named in literature C dots ,CDs, CQDs is a new rising star in
the class of photo luminescent materials that were reported to be non toxic and biocompatible. In
terms of shape and internal structure they are largely considered to be quasi spherical Nano entities
with diameter ranging from 3 30 nm. Their elemental content, C dots characteristically contains a
large amount of carbon (at least 44.50%), along with Hydrogen and Oxygen, in addition to
heteroatoms such as Sulphur , Nitrogen, etc might also be present with varying quantity depending
upon the synthetic approach and precursors used in their synthesis conditions.
As mentioned their structural and morphological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A growing number research and literatures focuses on this exciting topic, however the technology
involved needed further enhancement and investigations in terms of quantum yield, biocompatibility
and surface functionalization. In principle, surface passivation is a very effective technique to improve
intensity and t same applies to Quantum yield. (Figure 2)
Main target of the this research :
Synthesize and characterize the structure and morphology of C dots from a variety of molecular
precursors following pyrolytic treatments and surface passivation strategies
The evaluation of the quantum yield of the C dots as a function of their different chemical
composition
Assessing the effects of surface passivation to the photoluminescent intensity.
Assessment of the competence of C dots modification as a bioimaging agent. This will be done in
collaboration with researchers in Pharmacy.
Further application such as solar cells sensitizers might be followed.

Summary Of Electromyography
Tennis elbow occurs when the wrist extensor tendon becomes inflamed as a result of overuse or
repetitive trauma. A common treatment method is the prescription of a counterforce brace. Our
research interest lies in determining the effectiveness of such a brace. With overuse and repetitive
trauma playing such a huge role in the onset of this injury, it is therefore logical to examine the effect
of the brace on muscular endurance and it s ability to delay the onset of fatigue.
A review of relevant publications was completed to determine what findings have already been
established. Electromyography (EMG) has been used throughout multiple studies, which is useful to
quantify electrical activity within the muscle. We know that an increase in electrical ... Show more

These compensations could skew the EMG by increasing noise, indicating activity of synergistic
muscles. These compensatory movements will not be as apparent in healthy subjects, making the
analysis of the brace more true to ECRB alone. We strive to provide continuity between all subjects
with regard to elbow angle, muscle isolation when using EMG, and brace application technique: such
as tension, and duration of the brace application, so as to reduce chance of the brace coming loose
throughout the course of the experiment. This study is needed because it will provide a well controlled
experiment with use of a healthy population and their subjective exertion, in order to provide a greater
understanding of the counterforce brace and it s effect on muscular endurance.
Previous research provided recommendations to increase both the quality and validity of the research,
but also the overall understanding of the topic. Wadsworth, Nielsen, Burns, Krull, and
Thompson (1989) along with Shamsoddini, Hollisaz, Hafezi, and Amanellahi (2010), agree that

Analysis Of The Harvest By Amy Hempel
In the short story The Harvest by Amy Hempel, an unnamed narrator is in a horrible car accident,
where her leg is permanently disfigured. The story takes place after the accident, when the narrator is
attempting to process the life changing event that s just happened to her. The story is broken up into
two parts,in the first part she describes the accident and the aftermath the accident, the hospital, the
recovery. But she opens the second half of the story by admitting that not everything we just read is
factual. The struggle she is having throughout the story is to cope with and understand her accident,
but her emotional distress inhibits that. The narrator conveys her instability and vulnerability that the
accident caused in through the ways she decides to alter the details of her story. Although she goes
through the process of reflecting on why she does this, she doesn t come out the other side feeling less
confused about why her accident happened to her, or any less unstable and vulnerable. Throughout the
story she struggles to figure out which details are important to convey the emotional distress she feels.
The narrator opens the story by saying The year I began to say Vahz instead of Vase, a man I barely
knew nearly accidentally killed me . In this quote she is comparing the mundane and trivial, to a
tragedy very few people face. This demonstrates that she is unstable because she doesn t know where
the severity of her situation lies. Her use of the words ... barely knew nearly accidentally... so close
together shows that she s hesitant to move on from the mundane, and accept the fact that she was
almost killed. As she struggles to understand what happened to her, she over and under exaggerates to
get her truth across. After describing the accident she says The five days they didn t know if they
could save my leg or not I stretched to ten . She exaggerates and changes the details of what happened
to her because she wants to cope with the trauma she s experienced by garnering the sympathy that
comes with the higher number. because it happened to her she has to exaggerate the anguish she felt
because even though five days is a very long time to be uncertain about a leg staying attached but

Mission Statement On Community And Community Service In...
I hope you are doing well. As one of the members of the youth, I would like to address a concern of
mine involving the youth group. Our church s mission statement is experience, equip, and severe. As a
whole, I feel that the youth group is lacking in the area of service. Not only is community service
important to our church, I also believe it is crucial to have our youth involved in community outreach
to promote emotional and spiritual growth. I believe our youth should participate in more community
outreach because it will counter selfish tendencies, allow the youth to feel helpful, and promote our
church s presence in our community.
Let s face the fact, in general, the youth today are very selfish and narcissistic. It s all about having the
coolest clothes, the newest iPhone, or how many likes and retweets they can get. It sometimes seems
as if caring for others has completely disappeared from their thought process. They have very much
embraced the selfie lifestyle. Along with selfishness and narcissism, the youth also seem to have
become somewhat ungrateful. Although some may say that this is how typical teenagers act, I think
over the past few years it has become more and more prevalent. Despite that fact, is it not our job as a
youth group to try to work against the negative stereotypes and better ourselves. To overcome and rise
above the low expectations we typically have. This is why I believe creating and promoting
community outreach opportunities is so important.

Texas Got It Right, Sam And Andrew Wyly
In Texas Got It Right, Sam and Andrew Wyly explore why more businesses and citizens are migrating
to the state of Texas. Throughout the book, the authors highlighted many historical figures that were
forward thinking and, with their influence and position, made Texas a friendly, livable state and the
number one place to move in the country. This paper will review Sam and Andrew Wyly s explanation
of why individuals and businesses relocated to Texas, which, in turn, made Texas an economic
powerhouse and a leader in renewable energy.
Sam and Andrew Wyly begin their book by looking back into the history of Texas and how it was
established (Wyly Wyly, 2012, p. 14). They briefly looked into the colorful leaders that migrated to

The laws or regulations they create today can severely influence their full time career or business
bottom line. Conversely, a lawmaker in California might be concerned with keeping their job and, in
turn, will make legal and regulatory decisions based on their ability to be reelected. Unfortunately, a
law or regulation made under this influence will help the few while hurting the many.
Texas is a true melting pot and it is the differing cultures that make Texas great. Although there are
many native Texans born each day, there are just as many that migrate across the country to make
Texas their home (Wyly Wyly, 2012, p. 29). In the beginning, Texas was settled by Scots Irish,
Germans, Czech, Poles, and Italians. However, the greatest influence on the identity of Texas was
shaped by the Hispanic culture when they left Mexico behind to make Texas their home (Wyly Wyly,
2012, p. 15). This cross cultural influence in Texas creates an open atmosphere, a friendly
environment, and a sense of pride that others want to be a part of and that tradition continues today
with immigrants arriving from the Middle East, Southeast Asia as well as other parts of the world
(Wyly Wyly, 2012, p. 15).
Even though an argument can be made that other parts of the country are just a diverse as Texas, there
is no comparison to the helping culture associated with this state. When a tragedy occurs in our
country or around the world, Texans are the first to

Human Geography Chapter Summaries
Chapter one in the book, Human Geography, gives a timeline of the changes that have occurred since
the creation of planet Earth. The author, John Rennie Short, explained how truly powerful the earth
itself is. It has the ability to wipe out humanity. We often blame nature when natural disasters happen,
but perhaps the human race may have something to do with the cause of environmental hazards like
volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, and earthquakes.
Short went into depth when talking about the nine main plates of the Earth. The movement of these
plates have caused land to separate and changed the location of continents. A great example of the
power that these plates hold is when the Indo Australian plate and the Eurasian plate came together.

Legionella Pneumophila Experiment
Within in cells, there are many functions, systems, and structures. One such system is the
endomembrane system containing the endoplasmic reticulum, golgi apparatus, lysosomes, and
endosomes. The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) plays a significant role in protein and lipid synthesis and
membrane production. Once synthesized, proteins travel through the cell and the various membranes
to reach their final destination. But how? Vesicles transport everything through vesicular
transportation. However, sometimes the vesicles, which are relaying the information between
organelles within the cells, are intercepted by large molecules such as phagosomes. One type of
bacteria, Legionella pneumophila, which utilizes phagosomes for reproductive purposes, was
examined by Kagan and Roy (2002) in their experiment. They questioned how the bacteria spread
within the cell, why it could create a new organelle, and under what conditions this organelle would be
created. They hypothesized that Legionella pneumophila containing phagosomes (LCP) have 2 phases
of maturation and this maturation allows for the replication of LCP infected cells within an organism.

How To Play A Clarinet
Learning a musical instrument can be a worthwhile and fulfilling experience. It has a host benefits,
including increasing various academic skills, improving confidence, aiding with stress relief,
sharpening concentration, added social benefits, and it can also change lives. A great instrument to
learn is the B♭ clarinet. It is easy to learn, yet difficult to master. One of the most basic skills to be able
to play the clarinet includes assembling it.
The first thing to do when assembling a clarinet is to grease the corks. This is done with cork grease
(commonly sold in a tube or pot) and is done so that the different pieces of the instrument are able to
slide together with ease. To grease the corks found on the ends of the various joints, ... Show more

This is a short, cylindrical joint with no keys or rings. The barrel is to be connected to the top tenon
joint. The last piece is the mouthpiece. The mouthpiece is the small joint with a rectangular hole; it is
located at the top of the instrument. The reed fits onto the mouthpiece, in front of the opening facing
the player. The thick, blunt end of the reed should aim towards the ground, while the thinner, curved
side should be on top. It should not hang over the top of the mouthpiece, nor sit too low. The reed
must be moist prior to playing, and it is held in place by the ligature. The ligature is the circular
attachment with fastening screws, and is made with leather or metal. Fit the ligature over the reed and
mouthpiece, and tighten the fastening screws; it should be snug, neither too tight nor too loose. Now
the clarinet can be tuned. Clarinets are typically tuned to a concert B♭ and the pitch is adjusted by
pushing in, or pulling out the barrel. If the clarinet is sharp (pitch is too high), pull out the barrel
slightly to lower the pitch. If the clarinet is flat (pitch is too low) push in the barrel; if it is already
pushed in all of the way, make sure all other joints are completely connected with no gaps. Now the
clarinet is ready to

Emily Grierson Illness
William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily In William Faulkner s, A Rose for Emily, Miss Emily Grierson
lives a tragic secluded life, isolate from the world, in her house. However, upon further inspection, it
appears that she has a psychological disorder which affects her relationships with her family and the
community preventing her from making a true, healthy connection with the outside world. Her illness
is present in all aspects of communication within the community and even within herself. It is
perpetuated by the refusal of the community to talk about it and the help she receives from authorities
to cloak the symptoms altogether.

Yang compares Emily s life to another protagonist in Faulkner s story. According to Yang, The truth is
that she poisons Homer secretly and resolutely as she protects her dignity and reputation, and at the
same time she confines her lover in her room from everlasting to everlasting, although it is only a dead
body that lies in bed (Yang, 2013). From this passage Yang implies Emily knows what she is she
doing. She resulted to violence because Homer took her dignity. Pingping s argument is that Emily is
conscious is her behavior. She is aware of the reasons she bought the arsenic, used it on Homer, and
then isolated herself from the town so as not to be caught in a crime of murder. There is no way to

New School Year Essay
I can only hope for the best or most likely, the worst. The beginning of a new school year is a hard one
, also very very difficult.Friends and people reuniting ,then you got the people you really hate the
most. For me,I really don t like the boys at my school, but some I can make a good friendship
with, then there s him. Andrew Grant, your average bad kid,he is one that no one ever forgets. He had at
least punched 7 high school kids in the face and sent 1 to the hospital. He is the one that I hate the
most out of our school,my mortal enemy. The only reason why he s staying here at Arrowood High

Broadcasting Corporation s Decision On Broadcast Jerry...
Introduction What I intend to write about
In this report, I will be assessing the British Broadcasting Corporation s decision to broadcast Jerry
Springer: The Opera back on 8th January 2005. In order to judge the decision, I will be looking at the
reasons why the BBC made the decision to air it in 2005. I will be comparing the number of people
who complained to the BBC to the total amount of people who watched the broadcast using viewing
figures and charts. In addition, I will also look at the viewpoints of the Christian Voice Campaign who
argued against the opera. Finally, I will also be using my knowledge of Utilitarianism and Kantianism
while referencing the viewing figures and the BBC s general duty to the public to establish my ...

BBC s arguments for their decision on televising Jerry Springer: The Opera
According to figures from BBC News, over 1.7 million people tuned in to watch the opera. The report
continues to state that there were 317 phone calls made to the BBC since the transmission and a mass
of them were very supportive. [3] However, there was an overall high figure of 63,000 complaints
about the opera and it became the most criticised television programme ever. [4] (Inglis, Media Ethics.
2014 pers. comm., 8th December) Despite the number of complaints, the BBC defended their decision
on broadcasting the opera through a corporation spokesman. The spokesman said that the BBC
conformed to their choice of televising the contentious opera and that it endures to be shown to
congested audiences in London s theatres. [5] This statement shows that there were people interested
in the opera by the time the BBC broadcasted it. The spokesman continues by saying that the
corporation were proud to see that a broad range of crowds were able to witness a vital modern
musical work. [6] (Created with Microsoft Works Spreadsheet.) BBC News. 2005. Springer opera

Rosalind Franklin Essay
Rosalind Franklin
As hard as is it is today for women to succeed in the sciences, one must give kudos to those that came
before us. These are the women that paved the way for today s generation of women scientists. One
such woman is Rosalind Elsie Franklin, a chemist who had a great impact on the modern day field of
genetics.
Rosalind was the second of five children. She was born on July 25, 1920 in London. The Franklin s
were an upper class family who lived a life of luxury. Rosalind never even had to go to school she
would have been provided for from her family s wealth. As a child, she never felt like she was
understood. She hated pretend games and did not play with dolls. Rosalind had to find the facts behind

Her Research at BCURA focused on how coal could be used most efficiently. Based on this research,
she earned a Ph.D. from Cambridge in 1945 (McGrayne, 1993). To better understand the complex
crystals in coal, Rosalind started using x ray crystallography. She became an expert at using this
technology.
In 1947, Rosalind moved to France. These years were the happiest of her life. She traveled Europe
extensively and had fun with friends. While she was in the prime of her life and could have been
married with a family, she chose not to. Rosalind loved children and would not have someone else
raise them. This commitment was not enough to make her give up her true love science.
Rosalind headed back home to England in 1950. A physicist, John Randall of King s College, invited
Rosalind into his research group. He told her that her sole project would be to investigate the structure
of certain biological fibres, meaning DNA. This is where a man named Maurice Wilkins first entered
the picture. He was also a research associate in this group and played a controversial role later in
Rosalind s life (McGrayne, 1993).
While at King s, Rosalind discovered much about DNA. Working with her graduate student, Raymond
Gosling, she took the X ray photographs that would eventually lead to the helix theory of DNA. But
she also made other key discoveries. First, she determined that DNA was found in two distinct forms,
the wet and dry forms. Gosling had photographed the dry

Analysis Of Classical Hollywood Cinema
The release of Gordon Hollingshead and Alan Crosland s The Jazz Singer in 1927 marked the new age
of synchronised sound in cinema. The feature film was a huge success at the box office and it ushered
in the era David Bordwell describes as Classical Hollywood Cinema ; Bordwell and two other film
theorists (Janet Staiger and Kristin Thompson) conducted a formalist analysis of 100 randomly
selected Hollywood films from the years 1917 to 1960 in order to fully define this movement. Their
results yielded that most Hollywood made films during that era were centred on, or followed, specific
blueprints that formed the finished product. Through this analysis of Hollywood films the theorists

When a camera angle depicting the action is cut to a differing angle the action is immediately picked
up where the previous shot left off showing one continuous action using many different camera angles
(Giannetti, 2011) .
In Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring when Gandalf arrives in the shire the action follows
his horse drawn cart, camera angles are switched to follow the movement of the cart but the editing is
done so that it is silent and almost inconspicuous. The latter technique used to maintain temporal
continuity is diegetic sound, a device referring to a sound that has been viewed within the story world.
It can include off screen sounds but it always takes place in the narrative domain. Whenever Legolas
draws his bow and loosens an arrow we hear a zip for the sound of the arrow leaving the bow and a
thump when it meets its target, this is an example of diegetic sound in Lord of the Rings: The
Fellowship of the Ring.
Most commonly questioned temporal shots are smoothed together using continuous diegetic sound
creating a logical linear timeframe that is an auditory reminder for the audience. Other related
techniques, such as the flashback and montage, are also commonly utilized in continuity editing
within Classical Hollywood cinema. A flashback is the jump in the story from a point in the present to
a point in the past; an internal analepsis is a flashback

Peter s Influence On Russian Culture
Peter the Great ushered in a new era for Russian leadership rather than focusing on the grabs for
power characterized by the False Dmitry period, and rather than focusing on the cleansing
characterized by Ivan the Terrible, Peter sought to move Russia beyond these power struggles into an
era where Russia would be revered as a modern global power, on par with Western European powers
of the time. To achieve this goal, Peter turned to Europe to study their advancements especially in the
areas of engineering and governance. As Dr. Pesenson explained in class, Peter embarked on what he
called the Great Embassy , wherein he, along with other young male members of the court, took a tour
of Europe to learn about their traditions and customs. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Urban life changed significantly under Peter s reign the banning of beards and the required wearing of
Western dress allowed for the image of Russian culture to change and this proved to be an apt
metaphor for all of Peter s reforms: they only superficially advanced Russian culture. Just as
Petersburg and Moscow built great buildings in the style of the Dutch and Italian, just as Petersburg
and Moscow saw the adoption of French as a common language, just as Petersburg and Moscow were
introduced to opera and painting of the European style; the peasantry s life remained the same.
Without access to education, they could not take advantage of the court s cultural exchanges; without
freedom from serfdom, the Table of Ranks was utterly useless to the very class that would benefit
most from it. Peter started Russia on a promising but ultimately less than fruitful path: even though
they grew to look more and more like Europe, the vast majority of Russians, the peasantry, saw no real
reform, no real change, and so Peter s goal to become more like Europe fell flat due to this lack of
empowerment of the lower classes that would spread throughout Western Europe for the entire 18th

Blood In Macbeth
Blood, whether it be the color, smell, or importance is vital to life itself. However, almost exceeding
the importance of physical blood is the imagery of blood found throughout William Shakespeare s,
Macbeth. The continual presence of blood in Shakespeare s, Macbeth is constantly reminding the
audience how significant the consequences of the characters actions are. The imagery of blood in
Shakespeare s, Macbeth represents the guilt felt by Macbeth and Lady Macbeth due to their brutal
actions, thus developing the theme the corrupting power of unchecked ambition . As their guilt grows,
so does the importance of the blood imagery and how it haunts both characters, staining their soul.
It s not until after the murder of King Duncan that Macbeth s guilt begins to manifest. This is
expressed through Macbeth s obsession with King Duncan s blood staining his hands when Macbeth
states:
With all great Neptune s ocean wash this blood Clean from my hand? No, this my hand will rather The
multitudinous seas incarnadine, Making the green one red (II ii, 28).
An ocean represents purity and life, Macbeth expresses how even an entire ocean could not wash his
hands clean from the foul deed he had committed. In turn, the ocean would turn into blood.
Shakespeare uses blood to symbolize Macbeth s guilt and horror over his crimes. Shakespeare also
uses blood to symbolize Macbeth s acceptance

Analysis Of How To Avoid Being Enslaved By Jennifer Kong
Everyday we are surrounded by consumerism; through billboards, commercials, magazines, and ads in
newspapers. It has been engrained in our subconscious mind to consistently consume. Of course the
conscious mind also plays a huge part in what it is we truly desire. All in all, Americans simply want
to spend money. It is this cycle of supply and demand that drives the American commerce system. To
consume means to use things up by either eating, wearing, or simply using them to satisfy one s
desires and needs. The problem in America is that our consumption turns into overuse and our desires
outweigh our supply. This in turn becomes an epidemic. Consuming for our basic needs is inevitable
but selfish motives turn a natural need into a disaster. Many different authors around the world give

I Was A Friend On Facebook Essay
When I added you as a friend on Facebook, I was criticized and advised we had nothing in common.
Yet, none of that mattered to me as I was always down for another friend. We began hanging at the

also wasn t a good thing that I had other friends that were tearing me down. This all began over stupid
shit... Hoodies, seriously? You re my friend and it doesn t matter to me how many hoodies you have.

we each got tested. I was really busy with school so Logan went first. He got his results back and

The Scandinavian Banking Crisis of 1990 Focus Sweden
This essay was done by William Segrave, and Muhidul Hussain only.
The majority of banking crises in last 30 years have been caused be deregulation of the banking
industry followed by rapid unstable credit expansion leading to a unsustainable asset pricing bubbles.
Scandinavian Banking Crisis was not exception. When the bubble bursts, the effects can ripple
through the entire economy, and can cause massive disruption and loss in confidence.
By 1985 Sweden was experiencing higher inflation rates that many other similar countries, caused by
high interest rates and volatile currency. Due to high inflation and a real after tax interest rates were
low or even negative. It is only following the banking crash that Swedish households faced positive
borrowing costs for the first time in 30 years. The Swedish economy managed to have negative
interest rates for so long due to the banking regulations, which were soon the be lifted.
Sweden had a regulated banking sector. Banks, insurance companies, and other institutions were
subjected to lending ceilings, and placement requirements (liquidity ratios) required them to invest in
bonds issued by the government and by mortgage institutions. Large budget deficits and an ambitious
programme for residential investment led to a situation where banks were required to hold more than
50 per cent of their assets in such bonds, typically with long maturities and with interest rates being

Fat taxes have been experimented with in numerous European countries. There are many benefits such
as boosting economic growth, improving health and elongating life expectancy. On the contrary if a

higher prices cause local consumers to begin to purchase their unhealthy products in different states or

Energy drink producers have changed their recipe, playing a cat and mouse game with the government
and their new tax regulations. There is much opposition and debate over this, and difficult economic
times have created unrest with the residents. Still, the tax with all of this negative feedback has
survived, unlike the experiment performed in Denmark. Denmark implanted a fat tax on food products
containing more than 2.3% saturated fat. After only being in place for one year, Denmark repealed the
fat tax and got rid of an impending tax on sugar in 2012. The tax was causing the loss of jobs due to
the increased cost of doing business . Consumers began buying food products in Sweden and
Germany. Many younger adults who would frequently purchase bags of chips after school simply
began buying different brands of potato chips that merely just changed the types of ingredients to meet
the governments fat tax demands. While the tax did bring in $216 million for the government, the
higher price of meat, dairy and butter proved to be too much for the Hungarian economy to handle.
With the loss of consumers in Denmark, business owners were not able to sustain consistent sales to

of the greatest works of art of the twentieth century. It was said that the poem has influenced many
common day artists such as Kanye West, Queen Latifah, and Lupe Fiasco. Gil Scott Heron was born
in Chicago on April 1st, 1949 in Chicago Illinois. As a child, he was raised in Tennessee by his
Grandmother. Later on, he moved to New York then attending Lincoln University for college. He was
also addicted to cocaine and some other drugs. Many people thought of him as a junkie and someone
who was slowly killing himself. Gil became upset due to the fact that his poem, The Revolution will
not be televised became the most popular song out of his album ... Show more content on

Next there was a reference made is from the quote The revolution will not go better with Coke. I think
this relates to the poem as all Americans drank Coke at the time, so why are they all not treated fairly?
I think both of these references relate to not being treated fairly like all humans should be. These
impacted African Americans negatively throughout time. Another reference that I thought was really
important to the poem is the revolution will not be brought to you by the Schaefer Award Theatre and
will not star Natalie Woods... This is saying that common people will be creating the revolution and
celebrities will not be helping with it. This probably made African Americans feel more motivated to
gain more support for there cause to be treated fair throughout the country. Next there was a reference
made at the end of the poem The revolution will put you in the driver s seat. This is a very strong line
of the poem, it is saying that we the common people are in charge of creating and bring attention to
this movement. This impacted people positively and gave them the power to speak their voice and to

Modern Er El Paso High School
A revival, a rebirth, a renaissance of art that belongs in the past but seems to endure because of its
outstanding and unrivaled beauty. To revive a great nations architecture in the modern era goes to
show just how much of an impact an ancient empire had on humanity that extends almost two
thousand years in the past. El Paso High school is a great example of Corinthian Style architecture that
was predominant by the Roman Empire in the years of the Pax Romana. The building is a masterpiece
that displays two ancient Roman styles of architecture, on its East Façade and the other in the
Southeast Wing. These two entrances give more than what the eye can see; they display a spirituality
with the essence of the structure and what it embodies as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Looking back at the main building lies the main east façade with its beautiful porch leading up to the
main structure. The size and exquisite decor is what takes the mind of the city view and into the past
of a revival architecture. Constructed by Henry C. Trost from Trost Trost Architects Engineers, this
building serves as a revival evoking memories from Greece and Rome. The façade itself consists of
six shafts or columns which indicate the ionic part of the Corinthian style structure. The Corinthian
style capitals are a piece of work; they take the viewer back in time. The Corinthian leaves and
beautifully carved flowers are clearly visible as if time had no effect on the buff terra cotta. The detail
is acute and precise, to the extent that beautiful is a dull word to describe the vision. The bases of the
columns are like a perfect structure that hold a grand shaft that leads to beauty on top. Furthermore,
each column is big, no, in fact they are huge, they are elegant in their design and seem to fit one
another as they stand side by side. Above the six columns lies the architrave. The architrave is a small
part of the structure but fine to the last detail, it is astonishing the level of perfection that was achieved
down to the last inch of this structure. Above all this is a

  • 2. The Man He Killed Poem Analysis Poetry is used to describe more than it is used to define. Poetry expresses feeling and emotions more than just a detailed story. Poetry can be used to go deeper into someone s personal thoughts and emotions. In Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? by William Shakespeare, The Whipping by Robert Hayden, and The Man He Killed by Thomas Hardy are great examples of how inner emotions can be revealed through poetry. The three selections also give examples of how they follow good poetry. In Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? , Shakespeare is utterly honest about the person he is referring to. By comparing someone to a summer s day, he includes the dislikes of a summer s day just as much as he compares the likes. I liked how he was honest about the comparison to a summer s day. When most people think of a summer s day, they think about the beautiful weather every day. What most people don t think about is about the scorching hot temperatures that makes it unbearable to even step outside. This poem is qualifies as a GOOD poem because it provides purpose. The purpose it to distinguish the quality of a person s outlook with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Whipping is one of those unhappy poems. This poems exalts many emotions and detail in such an attractive manner. Being that I was well disciplined growing up, I can relate to this poem. The details used to describe the scene are great examples of a good poem. Because Hayden used visual image to describe the scene, it is easier to understand. The visual image of this poem puts the readers in the shoes of the mother, the boy, and the person witnessing the whipping. Hayden used words such as pursues and corners to explain the vigorousness of the whipping. Because he used phrases to describe the emotion of each character, it pulled me closer to the poem. The overall visual image used in this poem shows great emotion and visual background needed to be a great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay On Boo Radley During the prejudiced and racially charged era of the 1930 s, attorney Atticus Finch from Maycomb, Alabama finds himself defending an innocent black man falsely charged with rape. Meanwhile, his son, Jem, and daughter, Scout, along with their friend, Dill, find themselves captivated by the rumors plaguing their neighbor, the mysterious and elusive Arthur Boo Radley. It is an undisputed fact Scout, Jem, and Dill persistently plague the Radleys with their childish antics. Some people feel the children should not pursue the Radleys, while others believe the children should pursue the Radleys. The children should pursue the Radleys for three reasons: Boo Radley saves the helpless children, events serve as important lessons, and the children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A consistent theme throughout the book is that perspective is everything. Atticus Finch even tells them this by saying, you never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view . . . until you climb into his skin and walk around in it. As Scout is walking Boo Radley back to his home after the attack, it dawns on her that Boo is not a monster, but simply a man with no desire to interact with the outside world. She realizes that as she went about her everyday life fooling around on the Radley property, walking to school, and playing games, Boo was observing all of this from his own perspective. The events also teach the children innocence is not to be destroyed as Atticus illustrates when he tells Scout and Jem it is a sin to kill a mockingbird, because they do nothing but make pretty music for everyone to enjoy. Out of fear of tarnishing his own reputation, Bob Ewell forces his daughter to falsely accuse a black man of raping her. The man was innocent, yet the jury convicts him as guilty and sentences him to execution. As if that were not enough, Bob Ewell tries to kill Scout and Jem, two innocent kids, merely because their father defended the innocent black man in court. Boo s innocence becomes evident to Scout the moment the identity of their rescuer is revealed as Boo, himself. She finally identifies Boo Radley as the mockingbird he always ... • 4. Social Impact Of The American Revolution And The Haitian... The Atlantic revolution, while not nearly as impactful as the industrial revolution, was still a major event that effected the world. The Atlantic revolution greatest impact was felt culturally, socially, and politically. The American revolution and the Haitian revolution had the biggest impact out of all the Atlantic revolutions according to Laurent Dubois. His claim is further supported by ushistory.org. • 5. Nitrogen, Carbon and Phosphorus Cycles Essay Nitrogen, Carbon and Phosphorus Cycles The carbon cycle deals with the interaction of carbon between living organisms and the nonliving environment. This cycle is a process through which all carbon rotates. The main result of the carbon cycle is to serve as a great natural recycler of carbon atoms. The cycle works in a very basic way. First, carbon is taken from carbon dioxide found in the air. Plants take in carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Plants absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and use it, combined with water they get from the soil, to make substances they need for growth. The carbon is then mixed with water. Carbon dioxide is then formed into sugar (glucose). The process of photosynthesis incorporates the carbon atoms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Carbon dioxide is very important in the atmosphere, however only in moderation. For centuries humans have been burning coal, oil, and fossil fuels therefore releasing tons of carbon into the air. The problem with this is that this can cause a problem known as global warming. This is a major climate problem, which has series results on people and the environment. The result on people can be very deadly. Too much carbon in the air can cause cancer. The nitrogen cycle is extremely important. This is because of the importance of nitrogen itself. Nitrogen is a basic element of life. It also makes up 78 percent of the Earth s atmosphere. It forms an essential part of amino acids (which make up proteins) and DNA. Nitrogen is essential for all living cells. The nitrogen cycle consists of 5 steps. First the basic element nitrogen in converted to ammonia. This process is called nitrogen fixation. This process is done by nitrogen fixing bacteria. Then the ammonia gets converted to nitrate. Denitrifying bacteria aid in this process. Like all other elements, nitrogen is very important in life but in moderation. A common treatment method is the prescription of a counterforce brace. Our research interest lies in determining the effectiveness of such a brace. With overuse and repetitive trauma playing such a huge role in the onset of this injury, it is therefore logical to examine the effect of the brace on muscular endurance and it s ability to delay the onset of fatigue. The story takes place after the accident, when the narrator is attempting to process the life changing event that s just happened to her. The story is broken up into two parts,in the first part she describes the accident and the aftermath the accident, the hospital, the recovery. But she opens the second half of the story by admitting that not everything we just read is factual. The struggle she is having throughout the story is to cope with and understand her accident, but her emotional distress inhibits that. The narrator conveys her instability and vulnerability that the accident caused in through the ways she decides to alter the details of her story. Although she goes through the process of reflecting on why she does this, she doesn t come out the other side feeling less confused about why her accident happened to her, or any less unstable and vulnerable. Throughout the story she struggles to figure out which details are important to convey the emotional distress she feels. The narrator opens the story by saying The year I began to say Vahz instead of Vase, a man I barely knew nearly accidentally killed me . In this quote she is comparing the mundane and trivial, to a tragedy very few people face. This demonstrates that she is unstable because she doesn t know where the severity of her situation lies. Her use of the words ... barely knew nearly accidentally... so close together shows that she s hesitant to move on from the mundane, and accept the fact that she was almost killed. As she struggles to understand what happened to her, she over and under exaggerates to get her truth across. After describing the accident she says The five days they didn t know if they could save my leg or not I stretched to ten . She exaggerates and changes the details of what happened to her because she wants to cope with the trauma she s experienced by garnering the sympathy that comes with the higher number. because it happened to her she has to exaggerate the anguish she felt because even though five days is a very long time to be uncertain about a leg staying attached but when ... Our church s mission statement is experience, equip, and severe. As a whole, I feel that the youth group is lacking in the area of service. Not only is community service important to our church, I also believe it is crucial to have our youth involved in community outreach to promote emotional and spiritual growth. I believe our youth should participate in more community outreach because it will counter selfish tendencies, allow the youth to feel helpful, and promote our church s presence in our community. Let s face the fact, in general, the youth today are very selfish and narcissistic. It s all about having the coolest clothes, the newest iPhone, or how many likes and retweets they can get. It sometimes seems as if caring for others has completely disappeared from their thought process. They have very much embraced the selfie lifestyle. Along with selfishness and narcissism, the youth also seem to have become somewhat ungrateful. Although some may say that this is how typical teenagers act, I think over the past few years it has become more and more prevalent. One such system is the endomembrane system containing the endoplasmic reticulum, golgi apparatus, lysosomes, and endosomes. Once synthesized, proteins travel through the cell and the various membranes to reach their final destination. But how? Vesicles transport everything through vesicular transportation. However, sometimes the vesicles, which are relaying the information between organelles within the cells, are intercepted by large molecules such as phagosomes. One type of bacteria, Legionella pneumophila, which utilizes phagosomes for reproductive purposes, was examined by Kagan and Roy (2002) in their experiment. They questioned how the bacteria spread within the cell, why it could create a new organelle, and under what conditions this organelle would be created. Rosalind was the second of five children. She was born on July 25, 1920 in London. The Franklin s were an upper class family who lived a life of luxury. These years were the happiest of her life. She traveled Europe extensively and had fun with friends. While she was in the prime of her life and could have been married with a family, she chose not to. Rosalind loved children and would not have someone else raise them. This commitment was not enough to make her give up her true love science. Rosalind headed back home to England in 1950. A physicist, John Randall of King s College, invited Rosalind into his research group. He told her that her sole project would be to investigate the structure of certain biological fibres, meaning DNA. This is where a man named Maurice Wilkins first entered the picture. He was also a research associate in this group and played a controversial role later in Rosalind s life (McGrayne, 1993). While at King s, Rosalind discovered much about DNA. Working with her graduate student, Raymond Gosling, she took the X ray photographs that would eventually lead to the helix theory of DNA. But she also made other key discoveries. The feature film was a huge success at the box office and it ushered in the era David Bordwell describes as Classical Hollywood Cinema ; Bordwell and two other film theorists (Janet Staiger and Kristin Thompson) conducted a formalist analysis of 100 randomly selected Hollywood films from the years 1917 to 1960 in order to fully define this movement. Their results yielded that most Hollywood made films during that era were centred on, or followed, specific blueprints that formed the finished product. When a camera angle depicting the action is cut to a differing angle the action is immediately picked up where the previous shot left off showing one continuous action using many different camera angles (Giannetti, 2011) . In Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring when Gandalf arrives in the shire the action follows his horse drawn cart, camera angles are switched to follow the movement of the cart but the editing is done so that it is silent and almost inconspicuous. The latter technique used to maintain temporal continuity is diegetic sound, a device referring to a sound that has been viewed within the story world. It can include off screen sounds but it always takes place in the narrative domain. Whenever Legolas draws his bow and loosens an arrow we hear a zip for the sound of the arrow leaving the bow and a thump when it meets its target, this is an example of diegetic sound in Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Most commonly questioned temporal shots are smoothed together using continuous diegetic sound creating a logical linear timeframe that is an auditory reminder for the audience. Other related techniques, such as the flashback and montage, are also commonly utilized in continuity editing within Classical Hollywood cinema. Peter s Influence On Russian Culture Peter the Great ushered in a new era for Russian leadership rather than focusing on the grabs for power characterized by the False Dmitry period, and rather than focusing on the cleansing characterized by Ivan the Terrible, Peter sought to move Russia beyond these power struggles into an era where Russia would be revered as a modern global power, on par with Western European powers of the time. To achieve this goal, Peter turned to Europe to study their advancements especially in the areas of engineering and governance. Urban life changed significantly under Peter s reign the banning of beards and the required wearing of Western dress allowed for the image of Russian culture to change and this proved to be an apt metaphor for all of Peter s reforms: they only superficially advanced Russian culture. Just as Petersburg and Moscow built great buildings in the style of the Dutch and Italian, just as Petersburg and Moscow saw the adoption of French as a common language, just as Petersburg and Moscow were introduced to opera and painting of the European style; the peasantry s life remained the same. Without access to education, they could not take advantage of the court s cultural exchanges; without freedom from serfdom, the Table of Ranks was utterly useless to the very class that would benefit most from it. Peter started Russia on a promising but ultimately less than fruitful path: even though they grew to look more and more like Europe, the vast majority of Russians, the peasantry, saw no real reform, no real change, and so Peter s goal to become more like Europe fell flat due to this lack of empowerment of the lower classes that would spread throughout Western Europe for the entire 18th ... However, almost exceeding the importance of physical blood is the imagery of blood found throughout William Shakespeare s, Macbeth. The continual presence of blood in Shakespeare s, Macbeth is constantly reminding the audience how significant the consequences of the characters actions are. The imagery of blood in Shakespeare s, Macbeth represents the guilt felt by Macbeth and Lady Macbeth due to their brutal actions, thus developing the theme the corrupting power of unchecked ambition . As their guilt grows, so does the importance of the blood imagery and how it haunts both characters, staining their soul. It s not until after the murder of King Duncan that Macbeth s guilt begins to manifest. This is expressed through Macbeth s obsession with King Duncan s blood staining his hands when Macbeth states: With all great Neptune s ocean wash this blood Clean from my hand? No, this my hand will rather The multitudinous seas incarnadine, Making the green one red (II ii, 28).
