Francis Drake Essay
The year was 1575, Queen Elizabeth I summoned a seasoned mariner by the name of Francis Drake
for a meeting that was deeply shrouded in secrecy. Details regarding this meeting were kept from the
public eye for many years, until well after the death of Francis Drake. This rendezvous was so secret,
the Queen specifically ordered Drake to keep this secret from even one of her most trusted advisor,
Lord Treasurer Burghley. The Queen commanded that no one involved discuss the specifics with
anyone on pain of death. Bawlf, the author of The Secret Voyage of Sir Francis Drake, provides an in
depth account of what happened on that mysterious voyage as well as the precedent events and the
aftermath. The 400 page book recounts the life and death ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author tells the story in such a way to resemble a captain s logbook on a seafaring vessel. Each
new section begins in italics, which makes the reader believe that they are reading Drake s personal
log. As a person reads this book, they are made to feel like they are reviewing a captain s log of their
journey. Bawlf includes excerpts from letters the players involved. Letters from Drake, his
crewmembers, the Queen, and even his prisoners are included to paint a complete picture of Drake s
voyage. For a journey that was supposed to be so secret, people sure had a lot to write. Letters from
the most obscure individuals are included. One such letter is one from Magistrate Gaspar de Vargis,
which was sent by courier to another town, Oaxaca, in effort to warn them of a corsair who was
raiding coastal towns. That corsair, of course, was Francis Drake. The varied nature of the origins of
the letters that the author includes serves to reinforce the idea that Bawlf went to great lengths to
research his topic and to make sure that both sides were represented. The first part of the book covers
Drake s early maritime career as he served under Captain John Hawkins. They spent most of their time
raiding Spanish settlements in the Caribean Sea while trading slaves from Africa to local towns. They
acted under the protection of Elizabeth I, with Letters of Marque, which legitimatized their activities,
making them privateers as opposed to pirates.

An Analytical Comparison Of Men s And Women s Literature
An Analytical Comparison of Men s and Women s Literature in Enlightenment Era Britain
Suppression of thought and action has always been a method for one people to govern over another.
When we think of suppression we typically think of slavery; the physical governance of one group
over another. However, throughout history, other forms of suppression have dominated cultures, such
as that of inequality. An example of this in today s world would be the job market for women. Though
it has undoubtedly improved through the years, a man with equal credentials to that of a woman tends
to obtain a job much more easily. This is a form of suppression through inequality by men upon
women. If a woman cannot obtain a high paying job equal or better to that of a man, she may need to
be dependent on a man for financial means. Britain women during the beginning years of the
Enlightenment period experienced suppression of their education. Literature of the 17th and 18th
centuries in Britain was characterized by raillery of both men towards women and, increasingly,
women towards men fighting the educational suppression and inequality that would lead to modern
feminism. Like all major movements, such as the civil rights movement of the 1960s, Feminism had
its birth somewhere. Feminism began with women authors such as Mary Astell, Margaret Cavendish,
Aphra Behn, and Mary Leapor (Sherman 2125). For one to understand why this movement began, one
must understand the cultural context of the time

The Fifth Discipline by Peter Senge Essay
Indeed, not all external knowledge may be easily used and transformed into new artefacts. If external
knowledge is easily accessible, transformable into new artefacts and exposed to many actors (such as
customers and suppliers), then innovative entry may take place (Winter, 1984). On the contrary, if
advanced integration capabilities are necessary (Cohen and Levinthal, 1989), the industry may be
concentrated and formed of large established firms. Third, the domain relates to the degree of
accessibility of knowledge (Malerba and Orsenigo,
2000), i.e. opportunities of gaining knowledge that are external to firms. Knowledge that is accessible
may be internal or external to the sector. In both cases, greater accessibility of knowledge ... Show

Bason stresses that when it comes to their development efforts, public sector organisation seem to
spend 80 per cent of their energies on understanding the past and (at best) managing the present, and
perhaps only 20 per cent of their efforts on systematically exploring future directions for better
policies and services (p. 19).
Therefore, the best way for somebody s development is adequate, timely and inspiring feedback.
Alternatively, an important influence is to give somebody also a new and more ambitious task, which
requires more effort and external knowledge accruing. And finally, a classical and formal schooling,
carefully planned and executed, is also important.
As seen, the key component of a high performance organisation is a dynamic learning mode. A
learning organisation places a premium on innovation, risk taking, training, the right tools,
communication, and measurement (Hale, 1996). Senge (1990b: 7) quoted W. Edwards Deming s belief
that we have been systematically destroying the very attributes needed by a high performance
organisation: People are born with intrinsic motivation, self esteem, dignity, curiosity to learn, joy in
learning. The forces of destruction begin with toddlers a price for the best Halloween costume, grades
in school, gold stars, and on up through the university.
On the job, people, teams, divisions are ranked reward for one at the top, punishing at the bottom.

Reflection In My Life
Over the course of this semester me and our group success have participated in a variety of activities
coordinated by the Counselor Mrs. Warren which touch on topics oriented around college, careers, and
ourselves as people. These activities taught us life skills that we can apply in our life. For example,
some of the activities included learning to do or determine our SMART goals, long term goals,
skills/strengths, values and making decisions based on them, pathways to our potential
career/education. Therefore, what we learned as a group with Mrs. Warren was how to apply those life
skills taught in everyday life, How we would reach point A to point B, and learn more about ourselves
as people.
Throughout my life I have always felt like I knew myself, but until recently I have never, truly known
myself. These traits are one of my utmost important values to me in the sense that they are what I do
my best to live by them. My five main values are creativity, compassion, empathy, love, and wisdom. I
value creativity since through that I am able to express myself. Compassion is important to me being
that I cannot be a bystander and forsake the people suffering or the guilt would eat me alive, knowing
I could have done something to help. Most of my life I have empathized with people, putting myself
in their shoes and feeling their emotions, so that Is why empathy is one of my core values in view of

St. Vincent And The Grenadines Vs Guinea Essay
Case 2 5 St. Vincent and the Grenadines vs Guinea Facts: On November the 13th 1997, a St. Vincent s
and Grenadine agent filed a case against Guinea concerning the release of Marine Vessel Saiga as well
as its crew. The vessel had been taken into custody by the concerned authorities after being suspected
to be used for smuggling purposes. During its seizure, the vessel was in the process of refueling both
fishing vessels as well as normal vessels that were operating off the coast of Guinea. During the time
of its arrest, the vessel was drifting within the Exclusive Economic Zone of Sierra Leone.St. Vincent
and Guinea happen to be state parties of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the sea thus
making the tribunal to have a jurisdiction in this particular case. Procedure: Issues 1. Was the Saiga in
breach of violating customs laws while in the restricted economic zone of Guinea by refueling other
vessels in these waters? 2. Is Guinea in infringement of the UN rule, Article 292 for failing to not be in
line with the timely discharge of the vessel and crew upon getting the agreed bond? Holding: No Rule:
During its seizure by the concerned authorities, the vessel was not in any violation of the existing laws
that could link it to smuggling. The vessel was acting as a fishing fuel under the known facts that it
was only refueling other vessels in the sea area. Concurring opinion The International Tribunal for the
Law of the Sea made a decision in this case that

Does the Constitution protect against Tyranny?
After the American Revolution colonist faced the dilemma of an .
When delegates met in 1787 they aimed to create a new constitution for a stronger central
government. The delegates deemed the older Articles of Confederation weak because there was no

In document B and C, separation of powers of the three branches, legislative, judicial, and executive,
ensures that not one power is greater than the other. However, as a form of checks and balances, the
branches should not be separated to the point of having no constitutional control over each other.
Madison stated Liberty requires that the three great departments of power should be separate and
distinct. (Federalist paper #51) but ..they may be a check on the other (Federalist paper #51) meaning
that the three branches have separate powers, but are able to have constitutional control on each other.
For example, Legislative branch can approve the presidential nomination, override a president s veto,
and impeach the president from the executive branch while the senate confirms the president s
nominations for the judges and remove them from the office from the judicial branch . While, the
executive branch can veto the congressional legislation from the legislative branch and nominate
judges for the judicial branch. The judicial branch can declare presidential acts unconstitutional in the
executive branch and declare laws unconstitutional to the legislative branch. (Document C). Framer
guarded against tyranny through separation of powers but still being able to check on each other and
having constitutional control on each other. The branches should be separate and distinct as if they
were together, it would be given too much absolute power to one group. Checks and balances
illustrates how the constitution guarded against tyranny because the three branches have fair
opportunity to stop the other branches from committing an unconstitutional act. Additionally to how
checks and balances the constitution from tyranny, The Great Compromise does the

Shopping Is A Popular Pastime For Americans
Shopping is a popular pastime for Americans; it is a way to relieve stress, bond with friends, and keep
up with new trends. Shopping can be a method of therapy for those who need to lift their spirits;
however, with low self control it can become an impulse shopping addiction Impulse shopping is the
act of purchasing goods without prior planning as a result of sudden desire. It can be an addiction
because hedonic products bought impulsively induce an exciting rush, which turns into a cycle to
recreate the pleasure. Of course, not all people become impulse shoppers, there are different types of
shoppers, with varying emotions, psychological conditions and genders. What all shoppers have in
common is that they are all targeted by consumer culture, businesses want them to buy their products
and they know how to do it. Businesses constantly expose people to advertising in every form such as
TV, Internet, magazines, and in public communities. Marketing strategies are developed, achieved
through studies on shoppers, to entice customers to impulse shop. New technology such as TV and
Internet shopping makes impulse shopping accessible right at our fingertips. It s easy to impulse shop
due to the constant reminder of shopping and how it can improve our mood. Customers that are
emotional stressed are likely to impulse shop due to lack of self restraint. Businesses know that people
want instant gratification and take advantage of customer s emotional state. Ultimately, because

The Role Of Vegetarianism In George Orwell s Animal Farm
All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others, says George Orwell in his famous
novel, Animal Farm. Although this quote was used in a completely different circumstance in Orwell s
novel, it still applies when talking about the ethics of vegetarianism/veganism; do the animals that are
killed while making vegan/vegetarian food not matter as much as those who are killed to make meat?
Many people who choose not to eat meat believe that they are superior because having a meat free diet
means that they are protesting animal cruelty. However, this is untrue for many reasons; firstly
because many animals are killed in the process of making meat free food, and secondly because many
animals that will become food are not treated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He states, In the same way that we can probably recognize animal suffering when we see it, animal
happiness is unmistakable, too, and here I was seeing it in abundance. This makes it clear that not all
animals suffer on farms, so protesting meat eating really isn t protesting animal abuse. I too have also
spent some time on a farm, and the suffering of animals that 30% of people say is their primary reason
for not eating meat (Humane Research Council) was not clear to me. Exemplary farms such as these
show that eating meat is not an unethical act. The logical faults in the ideas of veganism and
vegetarianism make it clear that eating meat is ethical. For many reasons, eating meat is not the cruel
animal killing act that many make it out to be. Animals are killed even when making vegetarian/vegan
food, and many farms that do not make meat free food treat their animals with kindness, not cruelty.
Eating other life so that we can survive has always been an essential part of human life, and always

Gestalt Concepts Of Self Regulation And Intrinsic...
According to Laura Perls, Gestalt is experiential and experimental. (Perls, 1992,51). Gestalt Model
focuses on reverent hospitality. The Gestalt therapy concept of growth encompasses the ability of the
organism to co create a place where organismic needs and the resources for life converge to provide a
place of human habitation. By invoking a place of habitation and rehabilitation, Gestalt therapy offers
more than mere cure and focuses on complete healing. Rehabilitation pertains to a place of belonging
and a place to inhabit that represents home to each of us. This process of journeying and dwelling is
essential. It focuses on the transpersonal and spiritual interiority of the person. Gestalt therapy started
when Perls, Hefferline, and Goodman published Gestalt Therapy: Excitement and Growth in the
Human Personality in 1951 (Levine, 2010). Gestalt Model considers the interrelation between
personal and social factors as well as cultural and individual aspects. I think that we need to enlarge
the concepts of organismic self regulation and intrinsic evaluation. This method helps people to
become more aware of both their connection and interrelation with broader systems and its intrinsic
power to help transform them.
The one corner stone I chose: The Power of Awareness It was believed that contact/change moves
through eight stages: the emergence of need; the attempt to play out the need; the mobilization of the
internal struggle; statement of theme incorporating the need

Appropriate Critical Thinking Skills
Having employees with excellent critical thinking skills are the most important trait that one looks for.
There are often times when working for a company that hasty decisions have to be made. Often times
they are made so quickly that proper critical thinking of the situation is not done. This can lead to an
employee having to go back on their decision and try to fix and correct mistakes that were made. So
mistakes can often be an easy fix others can require more time. As an employer I look for employees
that have quick critical thinking skills but, also have the ability to think smart when making critical
thinking choices. I want my employees to have as less mistakes as possible which make my company
run better. The better the employees are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

times you are faced with challenging situations that require smart and quick decisions to be made. I

in my career and other aspects of life. I want to be an employee that can offer a lot to the company that

Guatemala Indigenous Women
Guatemala s Congress is coming under fire for racism and discrimination , specifically against
indigenous women. This issue has not been plaguing Guatemala alone, it is an issue that has been
prominent since the beginning of time. Indigenous women are not only discriminated against for their
gender, but they are also being discriminated against for being indigenous. Women in Guatemala
represent more than half the 15.8 million. After the signing of the Peace Accords in 1996, several
mechanisms specifically for women were created. Laws were issued for women s comprehensive

What multiplied disadvantage is, is that men and women divided simply can t exist, and in society,
inclusion really matters. We see the tentacles of multiplied disadvantage in the nexus between
ethnicity and gender. Acts of violence inflicted on indigenous women follow on from such intersecting
prejudices. Research and empirical evidence show that successful prevention and response to violence
against women and girls are more sustainable if they form part of comprehensive and multisectoral
interventions. Attracting representation must be accompanied by investments in research and data
collection relevant monitoring and evaluation, respect for indigenous peoples rights to self
determination, the maintenance of their cultures, lands, territories and resources, the full
operationalization of free, prior and informed consent; and access to formal and informal systems of
justice in line with the United Nations. The Office for the Defense of Indigenous Women (DEMI) was

Gallup s Argument Analysis
Most religious zealots have no doubt about who created and the source of the origin of the universe.
The same is true of the existence of the omnipotent, omniscience and omnipresent God. Although God
may not be seen or heard or touched, however; by faith, we believe of his majestic existence. His
existence as God cannot be measured in terms of Gallup surveys or scientific proofs to show
otherwise but religious thinkers according to James and Stuart Rachels have offered numerous thesis
for the for the existence of God, starting with the argument from design, with its subtitles such as the
wonders of nature; the best explanation arguments and the same evidenced argument (Rachels). In
either of the cases, the conclusions drawn were similar in the sense that the universe was created by an
intelligent designer. Foremost among the arguments is the argument from design which postulates God
s existence based on the nature of the world around us, (Rachels). It means that the wonders of nature
around us are so beautiful they must have been created by an intelligent designer. It was William
Paley, an Anglican priest and teacher at Cambridge University who crystallized it. To further affirm
his belief in the intelligent designer, Paley introduced the the best ... Show more content on

Deborah Tannen Essay
We are all the same. People always said. But is this really the case? For people, are we really all the
same between men and women? Do men and women really linve in same worlds? When people say
same , it s about the way we communicate, about our lifestyle and emotions.
Deborah Tannen, 1990, strongly believes that men and women have different ways of communicating.
Tannen believes that the best way to describe communication between the genders is in a cross
cultural format. She called this, Genderlect theory of Deborah Tannen. This theory mostly focuses on
how the two genders, male and female, are made of different things and how both genders has
contrasting styles, in terms of the way they communicate. According to Griffin, E. (2009), there ...

Effects Of Opening The Catering Business
Findings In order to understand the effects of opening the catering business, I looked at variable and
absorption costing to figure out which method would be better suited for internal and external
reporting in the past and future. In addition, I delved deeper to understand the cost breakdown of the
new products which helped form a capital budget that will help us determine the validity of opening
the catering business.
Inventory Effect on Net Income For November, there was an ending inventory of 500 units which led
to an operating income of $72,357.03 under absorption costing and a $65,679.68 under variable
costing . Due to ending inventory absorbing the fixed overhead cost under absorption costing as
opposed to being directly expensed under variable costing, there was a smaller per unit fixed overhead
expense under abortion which leads to a higher operating income under absorption costing. However,
when the ending inventory decreases as seen in December, operating income was greater under
variable costing than absorption costing . This is due to the additional expense of fixed overhead under
absorption costing because the beginning inventory in December had prior month s overhead costs.
Under variable costing, the ending inventory did not absorb fixed cost, so this allowed the fixed
overhead expense to be lower causing operating income to be higher.

Huella Hong Kong can go even further and offer a combination of both offers above.
The problem with this solution is that existing travel agencies are already making huge profits and
controlling most of the market. They won t be easily persuaded to help a potentially big competitor
enter their market. The reason for that is that it s obvious that Huella Hong Kong would go solo as
soon as they get enough recognition in the market. If this happens, it s going to be hard for the
traditional travel agencies to compete against them. The second alternative is for Huella Hong Kong to
open its own offices in Hong Kong following a Click and mortar model. That will make them appear
as any traditional travel agency. Through that, they will be able to attract customers more easily. After
acquiring a customer base, they can start educating people more and more about online booking and
then inform them about Huella Hong Kong s website and how that it is in fact more convenient for
customers to use the website than to come to the physical office. Then, they can phase out the
traditional physical offices gradually until they go back to the original model completely.
The problem with that is that this solution will require new business models in order to facilitate the
opening of the physical spots. Also, at a certain point of time they will have to get rid of all the

The Importance Of Choosing A University Or College
It is important to choose a university or college as early as possible because you will have a idea
where you want to go to be prepared after high school. It is important to know what you want to do
and what you want to do after high school as early to save the stress and have a mind set on what to
do. The steps to choosing a university or college is fairly simple you just have to consider your
options. There are 10 best steps to take but I have chosen the best 4 steps. One of the steps that I
thought was one of the best was according to Katy Hopskins Rank your priorities: List of Pros and
Con , you must consider the pros and cons of the university/college and decide your priorities. The
following step is Compare Financial Aid Packages which is to look at the different packages to make
it much more affordable and have to owe less after college and won t be stuck in debt. The third step is
Delve Into The Department and that is to look at what the college is great at and if that school excels
in what you re majoring or what you want to do if possible. The final step is Don t Procrastinate and
this step is self explanatory but this step is to dont procrastinate and dont wait until the last second to
do everything. Decide what you want to do because you won t be able to think as clear as if you had
thought about it a year ago and given you time to think about your options so its important to give
yourself time to think and do things.

There are numerous themes expressed in Francis Ford Coppola s The Godfather. Through the use of
cinematography and mise en scene, one of the most dominant themes expressed throughout the film is
power. Though, only possessed by few, power is an important aspect of progress and growth in this
film. Specifically, the development of power demonstrated through Al Pacino s character: Michael
Corleone; transforming himself into the succeeding Don after his father. The fight for power, as shown
in the in the baptism scene and the Italian restaurant scene in the film, exemplify the idea of getting rid
of the competition and fighting for the power to control.

Michael s face shows that he is unfocused and not really hearing what Sollozzo is saying. One thing to
notice is the blocking in this scene; that although we know there are other characters in the restaurant,
they seem to blend into the background and creates the feeling that the only people there are Michael,
Sollozzo, and the Police chief. Even though we see the waiter walking around; we never see his face
until after the shooting. After, there is a long shot and a high angle long shot of the entire restaurant
again. Before Michael heads to the bathroom, there are a 180 degree reverse shot rule taking place as
Michael starts to speak English. When Michael asks for permission to use the bathroom you can see
the irritation in Sollozzo s face. The scene then cuts between the table where the Police chief and
Sollozzo are, and Michael in the bathroom. This is done to increase the audience s suspense, because
we know what s about to happen. As Michael walks out of the bathroom the train noise starts up and
gets louder when Sollozzo continues to speak. By the look on Michael s face and his eye movements,
he is contemplating about what he s about to do and deafened and a little annoyed by the train noise;
disconnected from all that Sollozzo is saying. Right before he shoots, there is a close up on his face.
Then a few medium shots of the shootings and ending the scene with a long shot of the restaurant as
Michael rushes out, dropping the murder weapon and, finally a Long shot of the two dead

Charles Kenny s Getting Better And Nina Munk s Profile
PS 330 Comparative Review
Introduction
Charles Kenny s Getting Better and Nina Munk s profile of Jeffrey Sachs in The Idealist represents
two distinct perspectives on how best to promote development and the challenges associated with
implementing such transformative visions. Jeffery Sachs takes a very straight forward approach to
problem of how to eradicate poverty. He claimed that in order to eradicate poverty all we need to do is
increase the monetary aid these underdeveloped countries. While Charles Kenny takes a more holistic
approach. He claims we should focus less income to determine development and focus more on
human development factors in order to gradually promote development. After reading both of these
books, I believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initially a five year project with the goal of proving Sachs s systematic, scientific approach to ending
poverty could be used on a grand scale in which case, millions upon millions of rural Africans would
be rescued from the poverty trap and lifted to the first rung on the ladder of development (38). His
assumption was that if it can achieve positive results in one village it would possible replicate in other
places as well. Yet, what he failed to understand was that poverty is not systematic. It is not organized
and the problems that causes poverty is not the same everywhere.
Another problem with his model was that it only looked at the problems that were on the surface, for
example in the millennium villages handbook entire chapter had been devoted to improving
agriculture yields, boosting school enrollment, and promoting gender equality. But nothing in the
handbook told the agents how to reduce crime (49). While model did have solution to basic problems
that were behind the cause of poverty, it did not take into deeper problems that could be preventing the
eradication of poverty. There were also cultural and religious beliefs and social conventions that
interrupted the project. When Ahmed, one of the agents of the Millennium Villages Project tried to
encourage the people of Dertu to cut grass in order to turn it into hay, he was met with opposition god
had brought us this grass, one man objected. it is not ours to cut (53). These people were hard to

How Are Johannes Kepler Alike
Isaac Newton and Johannes Kepler are extremely influential to contemporary science. They are
responsible for countless scientific breakthroughs and discoveries, making them immensely relevant
today. Many of the simple tasks of everyday life rely on a basis of knowledge brought about by these
two men. Although they worked in the same general subject fields, they lived completely different
lives and made completely different discoveries. Newton was able to learn from the ideas of Kepler
and use that information to make his own breakthroughs. These two men have their similarities and
differences but worked towards a common goal of furthering scientific understanding of the world.

laws of motion are also taught in physics classes. If it weren t for these laws, there would not be any

building large structures to making vehicles safer is made easier. Still used in modern calculations, the
newton is the main unit for the measurement of force. Named after Isaac Newton, this unit proves just
how influential he was to physics and understanding forces. If it weren t for Isaac Newton,
astronomers may not have such advanced telescopes. According to telescopenerd.com, Sir Isaac
Newton didn t use his telescope to find any new things in the universe but he did use it to radically
transform how we view the world we live in and the universe as a whole. His reflecting telescope was
the foundation of what later became highly advanced telescopes like the Hubble telescope. Almost
every aspect of the modern word can be related to Newton and Kepler. It is irrefutable that Newton

I Was A Long Term Venture
Have you ever felt there must be something more? Something past simply existing? Searching for who
I am has been a long term venture. I was not merely that girl who would get uneasy every morning
when walking to school or the girl who would get sweaty hands when getting nervous. I was definitely
something more, something that I did not see. All I would see were imperfections and flaws. For the
past years, I have felt as I am meant to do more. This simple thought overrides my mind and emotions.
As I plunge into the everyday chaos of nature, I have realized that life is a test, in fact a very difficult

The hot, humid air made me uneasy. In those moments of tension you told me that life has two ways
and no more, you either fail or succeed. In a punitive tone you said, black or white, there is no gray
area in life and that is the harsh reality. A harsh reality that I am scared of. But you always said to me,
Don t let fear consume you. My shyness and anxiety got in the way from joining what I aspired to do,
join wrestling. Beginning of junior year, as I was walking towards the 8100 building, I was
contemplating the fact that I was going to start walking all the way across campus and go up a lot of
stairs. It was a hot morning and I was late to class when in the morning announcements they
announced off season practice for wrestling. I was excited because that meant soon I would attend the
wresting tournaments again. Whenever I had free time afterschool, my day consisted of sitting in the
bleachers with a Dr. pepper and chips, watching the art of the moves.
As I got home, I told you how excited I was because wrestling season was right around the corner. I

American Tea History
While tea dates back almost 5000 years to ancient China, there is a tale that about tea was created. An
Emperor (and herbalist) who was sick, sitting under a tree waiting for his servant to boil water. As the
water boiled leaves from the tree had fallen into it, and the Emperor decided to drink it anyway.
Out of all the countries to be introduced to tea, the United Kingdom was one of the last nations to be
familiarized to it. By the mid 1600s, Americans were already drinking tea. Tea was being brought
back from the Portuguese who were living in the East as traders and missionaries. But it was not the
Portuguese who were the first to transport; it was actually the Dutch. Which soon had established teas
as its popular drink.
Not too long after, tea soon became a common house hold object in England. From offices to
nurseries, middle class and upper class families alike used tea for At Home events. I was able to be

Income Statement An income statement is a financial statement that measures a company s financial
performance over a specific accounting period. Financial performance is assessed by giving a
summary of how the business incurs its revenues and expenses through both operating and non
operating activities. The purpose of the income statement is to show managers and investors whether
the company made or lost money during the period being reported. From the income statement we can
do a ratio analysis of the company. Below are ratios relevant to Coca Cola.
Ratio Analysis
The price to earnings share ratio is a valuation ratio of a company s current share price compared to its
per share earnings. For example, if a company is currently trading at $43 a share and earnings over the
last 12 months were $1.95 per share, the P/E ratio for the stock would be 22.05 ($43/$1.95).
(Investopedia, 2011)
The P/E ratio for Coca Cola is 12.39. (Yahoo Finance, 2011) This ratio indicates that the company s
stock price is currently trading at 12 and a third of its current earnings. Considering the relative

The Social Of A Social Institution
Connect structure to your social issue/topic:
1.) What social institutions are connected to your social issue/topic?
My topic is gender roles in society the social institutions which influence to the stigmatization of
gender are:
Family: Throughout history women and men have been stigmatized into categories based on their
biological sex. Parents from day one address their child based on their physical characteristics of
either a male or female. Family has a great influence because they teach their children at a young age
how to properly act, if the child choses to behave not accordance with their gender role they are
quickly corrected because acting out of your gender role is wrong.
Religion: this social institution can play a role in influencing gender norms because some religions
believe that there are specific duties and roles for each gender. For example in an Islamic religion it is
believed that women are to fulfill their duties as a wife and mother while the father is to be able to
protect and financially support the family. In Christianity women are seen as unfit to be in the high
roles of religion like being a priest.
Culture: In all cultures women have a set role in which they are to follow within their society. Here in
the United States women are working for better gender equality and more people are coming out about
who they are in the inside regardless of what gender norms they are breaking. For my third country I
picked Afghanistan, in this country women are

Chinese Rejection Movement
From the 1850s, political agitation and financial weights at home provoked many Chinese settlers to
move toward the western areas of the United States looking for transitory work. Many took low paid

administration ventures. The 1890 decennial census reports a Chinese conceived inhabitant populace
surpassing 100,000; records demonstrate that almost 300,000 Chinese workers entered the United
States in the vicinity of 1850 and 1889, however antiquarians evaluate that the same number of as half
at last came back to China. This influx of Chinese movement was joined by developing hostility to
Chinese Migrants causing ethnic segregation, in the U.S. Congress passed the Chinese Rejection Act
in 1882 which restricted Chinese work relocation to the United States and banned Chinese inhabitants
from getting U.S. citizenship. In spite of the fact that the law was canceled in 1943, minimal Chinese

Battle Of The American Revolution
The Battle of Yorktown was one of the most significant battles of the American Revolution. Not only
was it a major battle that helped end the war but also showed the power of the Continental Army s
field artillery. The battle was a major turning point in establishing the freedom of the United States of
America and was the last major battle of the war. The Continental and French forces moved to
Yorktown on 28 September 1781, however the first shot was not fired until 9 October of 1781. It was
roughly ten days of continuous artillery fire that helped demoralize the British forces, leading to their
surrender on 19 October 1781.
The lead up to the Battle of Yorktown started when Lieutenant General Lord William Cornwallis led
his army to Yorktown to try and establish a deep sea port for British use. His two year campaign
through the south fighting against the likes of General Nathanael Greene and General George
Washington took its toll on his forces. He marched his army of 7,000 troops to the harbor town of
Yorktown located next to the York River in Virginia. His original mission was to receive
reinforcements and supplies, however upon his arrival, General Sir Henry Clinton, the commander in
chief for the British forces, ordered General Cornwallis to secure the harbor and prepare for extraction
by the Royal Navy. General George Washington of the American Forces, who was encamped at Dobbs
Ferry, heard about Cornwallis heading to Yorktown while he was assaulting the town

Teenage Girls
As a matter of fact, teenage girls are not the only ones who fall victim to the ideal of beauty. Teenage
boys are going through very similar situations. Media and advertisements set their standards for men
to be tall, muscular, board upper body, v line and have beards etc. Neither males nor females live
without having standards set up for them by society and media. Widely held perceptions of beauty and
perfection can have a deep and lasting cultural impact on both women and men. Some impact is that
these standards will continue to exist in our future culture and both genders will never feel
comfortable in their own skin/body. Both men and women would continue to judge themselves and
their beauty. Magazines and advertisements usually have images of men without their shirts in order to
show off their muscles and to attract customers. This makes members of society expect to see a six
pack,v line and pectorals when a male takes off their shirt. This gives teenage boys fear to take off
their shirt when going to the beach or smaller situations like going inside a pool because they are
scared to be criticized for not being muscular. Magazines display images of these fake models for both
men and women which creates intimidation. Study of mass media magazines discovered that women s
magazines had 10.5 times more advertisements and articles promoting weight loss than men s
magazines did (as cited in Guillen Barr.1944). The ideal of beauty targets women more than men. In

Benefits Costs is a very important topic that is trending today throughout the world. Health Care
benefits costs are a systematic approach to estimating the strengths and weaknesses of alternatives that

to determine options that provide the best approach for the adoption and practice in terms of benefits
in labor, time and cost savings (Cost Benefit Analysis). Some companies compromise help with
medical costs. This depends on the company s policy. Either the employees can compensate a fee to
disregard the health care plan, while the company may choose to pay for the whole bulk of the best.
Also, the company may pay for everything. Employers often provide employees with sort of group
medical insurance, with the level of coverage depending on the status of the employee (Cost Benefit

Drugs And The Treatment Of Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome Essay
Has anyone ever known an alcoholic? Perhaps someone you love such as a spouse, a family member,

this disorder. In the article Baclofen in the Treatment of Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome: A

medication to aide in the side effects of AWS. Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) is a debilitating disease
that should be treated using the medications Baclofen or Diazepam because research has shown that
both medications significantly reduce anxiety, tremors, shakes, and agitation which are symptoms of
alcohol withdrawal symptoms (AWS) (baclofen.org, 2006). AUD is a pattern of uncontrollable alcohol
consumption. It causes a person s life to be preoccupied with alcohol, and if not consumed, it causes
AWS. It can range from mild to severe, but a mild case can escalate and lead to serious problems. It is
important to treat even a mild case as early as possible (mayoclinic.org, 2015).

(Time.com) Al Gore plans to maintain the existing Social Security by subsidizing it. This would take it
from its current position as general taxation. Gore is trying to preserve its basic guarantees, pay down
our debt and all of that makes it possible and easier to meet the other challenges set forth by Al gore
and the Democratic party.
Another big economic issue in the presidential race is tax reform. Gore is prepared with several,
thought to be successful, plans for tax cuts and reforms should he be elected. The Clinton
administration had successful disciplined and prudent economic policies which Gore states he would
like to continue (Al Gore on Tax Reform). In reserve, Gore would like to set aside $300 billion in
instance that the rosy projections do not materialize. Gore promises to make up to $10,000 in college
tuition tax deductions in order to increase enrollment (Al Gore on Tax Reform).
Most of Gore s campaign focuses on family itself. He proposes lowering taxes for families with

class families the lowest they have been in over 50 years. By helping families pay for college through
the College Opportunity Tax Cut, long term care needs will also be met. This initiative, for the first

Anterior Cruciate Ligamentous Injury Analysis

The most common ligamentous injury to the knee is injury to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)
(Teske 2010), and it is the second most common injury in the lower extremity. It has become so
common of an injury that 1 in 3000 individuals in the United States will be affected with an ACL tear

people 15 30 years of age (Teske 2010). It is also more common in females than males (Fayad 2003,
Teske 2010, Bowerman 2006). This is due to increased joint laxity in post pubescent females
compared to post pubescent males (Bowerman 2006) and differences in muscle activation. Males tend

If a knee is hit from the outside, especially while the foot is planted, it will be forced into genu valgus.
This puts several structures at risk, namely the ACL, MCL and joint capsule. These structures
specifically prevent valgus forces and are expected to be damaged when subjected to excessive genu
valgus. The nature of the force can also damage the bones because valgus will cause the lateral
condyles of the femur and tibia to be compressed while the medial condyles will be distracted. This
can result in bruising of the bone or damage to articular cartilage of the compressed side. In addition,
the menisci can be involved depending on the direction of the force, especially if rotation occurs. The
lateral meniscus can be damaged without rotation if it is compressed between the condyles or with
rotation by getting torqued between the condyles. The medial meniscus is at a lesser risk of being
damaged due to compression because the medial condyles are being distracted from one another.
However, because it has attachments to both the ACL and MCL, if one or both of those are damaged,
the medial meniscus is at risk. Therefore, a 20 year old male rugby player who was side tackled may

Analysis Of The Story Red Convertible The Two Brothers
In the short story Red Convertible the two brothers, as close as they are, you really never know how
someone is or feels or acts unless you truly know what they ve been through or if you are them and
have gone through what they ve been through. The brother have always been close they re whole life
but the split really changes one. Lyman and Henry really have a true connection with each other. The
car they bought together without really thinking twice about it and they shared it really just shows us
that the brothers have a stronger bond then most because they were both broke they spent every dollar
they had on the car, both of them. Another example in the story that shows us the bond they have is
when they pick up Susie the hitchhiker and they ask her where to? And she says Alaska. The two
brothers almost immediately say lets go, no second questions and in the new car they just got. They
are both in sync with each other. The trip is really important to the relationship of Lyman and Henry
because they get there and they stay for a little bit where the unpredictable growth of plants is just
crazy and the cold weather but they bond through it and Susie s family puts up a tent in the backyard
for them. Just in the matter of how they both are just friendly buys them a ticket to stay with Susie s

The Role Of Serfs In Medieval Times
The medieval time period survived on a system that provided order and good military, this system was
called Feudalism. Serfs had a major role in the medieval time period, they were the ones, along with
the freemen, who did the hard work in the manor, not only for themselves to survive on, but for the
whole manor, the lord, and the king. Feudalism was a type of government, it was created not for
fairness, but for organization. Without serfs, the feudal system would deteriorate, therefore, there
needed to be a specific role for labor, or no drudgery would ever be done. Feudalism brought many
things to everyone in this time period, some people got more freedom than others, some worked
harder than others, everyone had a role, they may be treated differently for the role, but they all matter.
Serfs played a major role in a medieval manor. Serfs did most of the work in this time period. In the
beginning of the 1100 s, serfs were used for farming and they were able to farm more land, because
there was an increase in improved farming tools (Cels 8). 90% of the population of serfs, participated
in farming, the other 10% would produce goods or perform other types of labor (Hunt 18). If you were
a serf, you had many requirements and expectations. Serfs had to work ... Show more content on

The feudal system would simply not survive off of the work from the freemen, there needed to be
serfs, people to be bound to the land, to work for simple pay, to provide for the manor. The feudal
government, was a way of life, it kept order to a medieval manor, but it also had an absence of
fairness. Serfs were the lowest class in the feudal system, they were bound to the land, and couldn t do
anything about it. The Middle Ages, was a time of order, people in classes, from king, to serfs, who
were bound to the land, where they were then forced to work, providing for the manor, and those

Characteristics Of Secret Societies In The 18th Century
In the eighteenth century, Europe had the largest number of Secret Societies. There were three trends
that Secret Societies got something good out of: The Enlightenment (a philosophical movement
(Locke, Montesquieu and Voltaire) advocating human reasoning over obedience while strengthening
the reasons for Scientific thinking), Enlightened Despotism (where society of every rank and status
felt their values were threatened by the state. Freemasonry therefore seemed very appealing as it
taught ways of conveying ancient wisdom and virtue), and The growth against the reasoning of
Rationalism and Enlightenment as well as the fascination for nature s secrets which brings about a
mystical, magical and even occult exaltation.
As secret societies is the topic at hand, i d like to start by speaking about secret societies before
continuing with the classification of secret societies for the purpose of developing the discussion.
Secrecy is defined as an exclusion of reciprocal knowledge by members of associations and the
concealment is premeditated. As having full knowledge of any information is trusting, the complete
absence means distrust. It is very natural for us to understand that what is forbidden is permitted and
for what is not permitted is forbidden. Secrecy is one of the greatest accomplishments of humanity as
the purposeful concealment and aggression against the other party is most effective with negative and
positive outcomes. There will always be a small ratio of

Essay on Theoretical Positions of Jung, Adler, and Freud
Theoretical Position Paper Tatiana Rodriguez, Melissa Rodriguez, Christy Potter, Enes Velovic,
Celene Richards, and David De Mers PSY/310 January 30, 2012 Kelle Daniels * *
Early Psychological Theory While science worked diligently to quantify and validate early
structuralist perspectives in psychology, early functionalists were hard at work developing theories
that were more qualitative in nature. Although not directly associated with the functionalism
movement, Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, Alfred Adler, and William James were clearly most ... Show

According to Adler, this initial state of inadequacy people obtain is the result of factors, such as
neglect in their childhood, that significantly influence and shape how a child perceives him or herself
as well as the choices he or she makes. Therefore, only through assisting people in identifying the
factors that led them to the distorted view of themselves can change, healing, growth, and the
development of a new, healthy self image occur. Playing a major role in child development, among
numerous other areas, Adler s beliefs and theories became widely accepted within the world of
psychology therefore significantly influencing modern day psychology. William James William James
was an American philosopher whose work in psychology in the nineteenth century recognized science
as a crucial element in the improvement of social and philosophical doctrines (Allen, 1967). His blend
of psychology and philosophy refined his concept of pragmatism. This pragmatic approach grasped
the meaning of the ideas and truth of his beliefs in an approach that influenced the lives of individuals
as opposed to the abstract sense of ideas (Hothersall, 1995). His research also outlined the
understanding of consciousness and the self, a proactive position and perception of truth, and a

  • 2. Francis Drake Essay The year was 1575, Queen Elizabeth I summoned a seasoned mariner by the name of Francis Drake for a meeting that was deeply shrouded in secrecy. Details regarding this meeting were kept from the public eye for many years, until well after the death of Francis Drake. This rendezvous was so secret, the Queen specifically ordered Drake to keep this secret from even one of her most trusted advisor, Lord Treasurer Burghley. The Queen commanded that no one involved discuss the specifics with anyone on pain of death. Bawlf, the author of The Secret Voyage of Sir Francis Drake, provides an in depth account of what happened on that mysterious voyage as well as the precedent events and the aftermath. Each new section begins in italics, which makes the reader believe that they are reading Drake s personal log. As a person reads this book, they are made to feel like they are reviewing a captain s log of their journey. Bawlf includes excerpts from letters the players involved. Letters from Drake, his crewmembers, the Queen, and even his prisoners are included to paint a complete picture of Drake s voyage. For a journey that was supposed to be so secret, people sure had a lot to write. Letters from the most obscure individuals are included. One such letter is one from Magistrate Gaspar de Vargis, which was sent by courier to another town, Oaxaca, in effort to warn them of a corsair who was raiding coastal towns. That corsair, of course, was Francis Drake. The varied nature of the origins of the letters that the author includes serves to reinforce the idea that Bawlf went to great lengths to research his topic and to make sure that both sides were represented. The first part of the book covers Drake s early maritime career as he served under Captain John Hawkins. They spent most of their time raiding Spanish settlements in the Caribean Sea while trading slaves from Africa to local towns. They acted under the protection of Elizabeth I, with Letters of Marque, which legitimatized their activities, making them privateers as opposed to pirates. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. An Analytical Comparison Of Men s And Women s Literature An Analytical Comparison of Men s and Women s Literature in Enlightenment Era Britain Suppression of thought and action has always been a method for one people to govern over another. When we think of suppression we typically think of slavery; the physical governance of one group over another. However, throughout history, other forms of suppression have dominated cultures, such as that of inequality. An example of this in today s world would be the job market for women. Though it has undoubtedly improved through the years, a man with equal credentials to that of a woman tends to obtain a job much more easily. This is a form of suppression through inequality by men upon women. If a woman cannot obtain a high paying job equal or better to that of a man, she may need to be dependent on a man for financial means. Britain women during the beginning years of the Enlightenment period experienced suppression of their education. Literature of the 17th and 18th centuries in Britain was characterized by raillery of both men towards women and, increasingly, women towards men fighting the educational suppression and inequality that would lead to modern feminism. Like all major movements, such as the civil rights movement of the 1960s, Feminism had its birth somewhere. Feminism began with women authors such as Mary Astell, Margaret Cavendish, Aphra Behn, and Mary Leapor (Sherman 2125). For one to understand why this movement began, one must understand the cultural context of the time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Fifth Discipline by Peter Senge Essay Indeed, not all external knowledge may be easily used and transformed into new artefacts. If external knowledge is easily accessible, transformable into new artefacts and exposed to many actors (such as customers and suppliers), then innovative entry may take place (Winter, 1984). On the contrary, if advanced integration capabilities are necessary (Cohen and Levinthal, 1989), the industry may be concentrated and formed of large established firms. Third, the domain relates to the degree of accessibility of knowledge (Malerba and Orsenigo, 2000), i.e. opportunities of gaining knowledge that are external to firms. Knowledge that is accessible may be internal or external to the sector. In both cases, greater accessibility of knowledge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the best way for somebody s development is adequate, timely and inspiring feedback. Alternatively, an important influence is to give somebody also a new and more ambitious task, which requires more effort and external knowledge accruing. And finally, a classical and formal schooling, carefully planned and executed, is also important. As seen, the key component of a high performance organisation is a dynamic learning mode. A learning organisation places a premium on innovation, risk taking, training, the right tools, communication, and measurement (Hale, 1996). Senge (1990b: 7) quoted W. Edwards Deming s belief that we have been systematically destroying the very attributes needed by a high performance organisation: People are born with intrinsic motivation, self esteem, dignity, curiosity to learn, joy in learning. The forces of destruction begin with toddlers a price for the best Halloween costume, grades in school, gold stars, and on up through the university. • 5. Reflection In My Life Over the course of this semester me and our group success have participated in a variety of activities coordinated by the Counselor Mrs. Warren which touch on topics oriented around college, careers, and ourselves as people. These activities taught us life skills that we can apply in our life. For example, some of the activities included learning to do or determine our SMART goals, long term goals, skills/strengths, values and making decisions based on them, pathways to our potential career/education. Therefore, what we learned as a group with Mrs. Warren was how to apply those life skills taught in everyday life, How we would reach point A to point B, and learn more about ourselves as people. Throughout my life I have always felt like I knew myself, but until recently I have never, truly known myself. These traits are one of my utmost important values to me in the sense that they are what I do my best to live by them. My five main values are creativity, compassion, empathy, love, and wisdom. I value creativity since through that I am able to express myself. Compassion is important to me being that I cannot be a bystander and forsake the people suffering or the guilt would eat me alive, knowing I could have done something to help. Is Guinea in infringement of the UN rule, Article 292 for failing to not be in line with the timely discharge of the vessel and crew upon getting the agreed bond? Shopping can be a method of therapy for those who need to lift their spirits; however, with low self control it can become an impulse shopping addiction Impulse shopping is the act of purchasing goods without prior planning as a result of sudden desire. It can be an addiction because hedonic products bought impulsively induce an exciting rush, which turns into a cycle to recreate the pleasure. Of course, not all people become impulse shoppers, there are different types of shoppers, with varying emotions, psychological conditions and genders. What all shoppers have in common is that they are all targeted by consumer culture, businesses want them to buy their products and they know how to do it. Businesses constantly expose people to advertising in every form such as TV, Internet, magazines, and in public communities. Marketing strategies are developed, achieved through studies on shoppers, to entice customers to impulse shop. New technology such as TV and Internet shopping makes impulse shopping accessible right at our fingertips. Although this quote was used in a completely different circumstance in Orwell s novel, it still applies when talking about the ethics of vegetarianism/veganism; do the animals that are killed while making vegan/vegetarian food not matter as much as those who are killed to make meat? Many people who choose not to eat meat believe that they are superior because having a meat free diet means that they are protesting animal cruelty. Exemplary farms such as these show that eating meat is not an unethical act. The logical faults in the ideas of veganism and vegetarianism make it clear that eating meat is ethical. For many reasons, eating meat is not the cruel animal killing act that many make it out to be. • 10. Gestalt Concepts Of Self Regulation And Intrinsic... According to Laura Perls, Gestalt is experiential and experimental. (Perls, 1992,51). Gestalt Model focuses on reverent hospitality. The Gestalt therapy concept of growth encompasses the ability of the organism to co create a place where organismic needs and the resources for life converge to provide a place of human habitation. By invoking a place of habitation and rehabilitation, Gestalt therapy offers more than mere cure and focuses on complete healing. Rehabilitation pertains to a place of belonging and a place to inhabit that represents home to each of us. This process of journeying and dwelling is essential. It focuses on the transpersonal and spiritual interiority of the person. Gestalt therapy started when Perls, Hefferline, and Goodman published Gestalt Therapy: Excitement and Growth in the Human Personality in 1951 (Levine, 2010). Gestalt Model considers the interrelation between personal and social factors as well as cultural and individual aspects. I think that we need to enlarge the concepts of organismic self regulation and intrinsic evaluation. This method helps people to become more aware of both their connection and interrelation with broader systems and its intrinsic power to help transform them. In addition, I delved deeper to understand the cost breakdown of the new products which helped form a capital budget that will help us determine the validity of opening the catering business. Inventory Effect on Net Income For November, there was an ending inventory of 500 units which led to an operating income of $72,357.03 under absorption costing and a $65,679.68 under variable costing . Due to ending inventory absorbing the fixed overhead cost under absorption costing as opposed to being directly expensed under variable costing, there was a smaller per unit fixed overhead expense under abortion which leads to a higher operating income under absorption costing. However, when the ending inventory decreases as seen in December, operating income was greater under variable costing than absorption costing . This is due to the additional expense of fixed overhead under absorption costing because the beginning inventory in December had prior month s overhead costs. Under variable costing, the ending inventory did not absorb fixed cost, so this allowed the fixed overhead expense to be lower causing operating income to be higher. Jeffery Sachs takes a very straight forward approach to problem of how to eradicate poverty. He claimed that in order to eradicate poverty all we need to do is increase the monetary aid these underdeveloped countries. While Charles Kenny takes a more holistic approach. He claims we should focus less income to determine development and focus more on human development factors in order to gradually promote development. After reading both of these books, I believe ... Initially a five year project with the goal of proving Sachs s systematic, scientific approach to ending poverty could be used on a grand scale in which case, millions upon millions of rural Africans would be rescued from the poverty trap and lifted to the first rung on the ladder of development (38). His assumption was that if it can achieve positive results in one village it would possible replicate in other places as well. Yet, what he failed to understand was that poverty is not systematic. It is not organized and the problems that causes poverty is not the same everywhere. Another problem with his model was that it only looked at the problems that were on the surface, for example in the millennium villages handbook entire chapter had been devoted to improving agriculture yields, boosting school enrollment, and promoting gender equality. But nothing in the handbook told the agents how to reduce crime (49). While model did have solution to basic problems that were behind the cause of poverty, it did not take into deeper problems that could be preventing the eradication of poverty. There were also cultural and religious beliefs and social conventions that interrupted the project. When Ahmed, one of the agents of the Millennium Villages Project tried to encourage the people of Dertu to cut grass in order to turn it into hay, he was met with opposition god had brought us this grass, one man objected. it is not ours to cut (53). My topic is gender roles in society the social institutions which influence to the stigmatization of gender are: Family: Throughout history women and men have been stigmatized into categories based on their biological sex. Parents from day one address their child based on their physical characteristics of either a male or female. Family has a great influence because they teach their children at a young age how to properly act, if the child choses to behave not accordance with their gender role they are quickly corrected because acting out of your gender role is wrong. Religion: this social institution can play a role in influencing gender norms because some religions believe that there are specific duties and roles for each gender. For example in an Islamic religion it is believed that women are to fulfill their duties as a wife and mother while the father is to be able to protect and financially support the family. In Christianity women are seen as unfit to be in the high roles of religion like being a priest. Culture: In all cultures women have a set role in which they are to follow within their society. These structures specifically prevent valgus forces and are expected to be damaged when subjected to excessive genu valgus. The nature of the force can also damage the bones because valgus will cause the lateral condyles of the femur and tibia to be compressed while the medial condyles will be distracted. This can result in bruising of the bone or damage to articular cartilage of the compressed side. In addition, the menisci can be involved depending on the direction of the force, especially if rotation occurs. The lateral meniscus can be damaged without rotation if it is compressed between the condyles or with rotation by getting torqued between the condyles. The medial meniscus is at a lesser risk of being damaged due to compression because the medial condyles are being distracted from one another.
