Comparing Conrad s Heart Of Darkness And Francis Ford Coppola
Narrative figures Marlow and Willard in Joseph Conrad s Novella Heart of Darkness and
Francis Ford Coppola s film Apocalypse Now (1979) both play specific roles in presenting their
composers ideas. Marlow in Heart of Darkness is characterized as philosophic, skeptic that is
intrigued by the ideals Kurtz displays. Willard on the other hand is figure who is suffering his own
loss of identity the further he becomes aware of the atrocities that war and human nature possesses.
Both composers, even though they have varying contextual eras portray similar ideals, including
the hypocrisy of Imperialism, the capacity for savagery and evil inherent in all humans as well as
the emergence of corruption within all of humanity the further we are exposed... Show more content

In Heart of Darkness, Conrad uses Marlow to represent this idea in depth during the ending of his
text to where Kurtz is dying and his intended is distressed. Through the use of listing of work
tools which act as metaphor of his struggles I lived in and infernal mess of rust, fillings, nuts ...
things I abominate, because I don t get on with them , demonstrates how Marlow has been
touched by the darkness the further he was exposed to it. Conrad additionally represents this idea
when Marlow lies to Kurtz intended during their confrontation. I seemed to hear the whispered
cry the horror! The horror! the repetition here showcases how Kurtz s corruption is within him
even before he meets his fiancГ©. To continue the irony displayed in the line the last word he
pronounced was your name illustrates Conrad s idea that we are all touched by corruption and
darkness even if we seem to completely innocent soul. Contrast to Marlow, Coppola uses the
narrative figure of Willard to showcases how corruption can touch you but you can still escape its
presence. During the final sequence in Apocalypse now, through the mise en scene of dead bodies,
fog and rain we see Willard via a low angle shot rising from the depths of water (corruption)
getting ready to kill Kurtz. Even though all of humanity is capable of corruption through
darkness we are still are able to overcome its effect. Coppola emphasizes this thought the
chiaroscuro displayed on half of Willards face as he attempts to make a decision to join the
corruption laid down by Kurtz. Through a dissolve of rain representing the symbol of cleansing
and the absence of natural sound, Coppola is showing again this ability of humanity to overcome
corruption even if we are touched by

Yankee Ingenuity Character Analysis
How is one with Yankee Ingenuity escapes from being a prisoner of war living and surviving on
the enemy s land? In Herman Melville s Israel Potter, the protagonist represents Yankee Ingenuity
because he always manages to escape from adversity. Melville exemplifies this throughout the novel
on how the main character, Israel, faces and deals with adversity.
Israel Potter joins the American forces and goes to war with the British, where he is captured and
then escapes, which he lives as a prisoner of war in the enemy land. In the start of the book,
Israel was battling at Bunker Hill and was badly wounded. Fortunately, he was able to escape
and recover from the wounds. After recovering, he rejoined and boarded an American ship. Later
at sea, the ship was captured by the enemy s British ship and Israel was captured and taken into
prison and was brought to England. He thought of many tactics until he came up with a tactic that
will work to escape from the British ship. With careful planning, he patiently waited until he heard
the drunken soldiers fall into a deep sleep and finally finds his chance to escape. Then he manages

He boards an enemy ship and he was being interrogated. Some of the questions that the lieutenant
asked Israel are where the ship had stopped, what he had been doing on the boat, and if he knew
any of the names of the people on the ship. Luckily, he knew a lot of things about the British
because of his adventure in England and he pretends to be British under a different name. He uses
his knowledge and finds his way to answer and lie to the lieutenant without getting himself caught
in a lie. Israel shows Yankee Ingenuity because he uses his intelligence, knowledge, and creativity
to disguise his Yankee identity by pretending to be a British under a different name and pretending
to be on the ship the whole

The Reign Of The Holy Roman Empire
On Christmas day of 800 A.D., Pope Leo III crowned Charlemagne the Holy Roman Emperor. This
pivotal, but not necessarily wanted, moment in the history of the Catholic Church set up a
precedent for very strong relations between the Holy Roman Emperor and the papacy. During the
eleventh century, with the Holy Roman Emperor ruled by Henry IV, relations with the papacy
came to a front over several disagreement between Henry IV and PopeGregory VII. Their
arguments mainly focused on the power that each institution should hold. Gregory felt that the
papacy should play a larger political role in the western church and that lay investiture was
against the will of God. Henry was conservative and did not want Rome intruding any more on
his rule of the Holy Roman Emperor and accused Gregory of being a usurper and a fraud. In the
midst of this argument, Gregory released various decrees, known as the Dictatus Papae, which
greatly increased the power of the Papacy while reducing that of the Holy Roman Empire. The mere
fact that Gregory felt the need to issue these decrees, in combination with the harsh reaction of
Henry IV and the Bishops of Germany, prove that the papacy did not have effective authority over
the Western church and institution.
The imposition of the Gregorian reforms alone and the Pope s defense of them show how the
papacy was not an institution of great authority in the Western church and lacked command among
its constituents. The Gregorian reforms were not, as the

Toxic Mold Research Paper
Whom to Sue When It Comes to Toxic Mold Exposure Toxic mold is one thing that you should
never take lightly. Even though there are thousands of mold breeds, and though most of them
are harmless, the few that are toxic are seriously dangerous. Not only can toxic mold hurt you,
your family and cause heavy expenses in medical bills, but the cost to remove mold from your
house is extensive as well. Since mold in a building is not your fault, you should not have to pay
the removal cost, or possibly even that of the medical expenses. So whom you have to sue to get
it covered? To find out, you need to ask yourself some questions: Where Were You When the
Mold Affected You? First of all, you have to determine where the mold occurred, so that you can
deduce where the blame lies. You have to consider your regular routine, and the conditions in said
places that may have facilitated exposure to harmful breeds of mold. Here are a few examples of
places where mold may have occurred, along with some of the probable guilty parties: в¦Ѓ... Show

The Effect Of Income Levels On The Investment Choices...
4.3 Results for Objective #2 Whether RRSP is better for high income earners
Based on our data collected, we have compiled tables and graphs in order to visually represent our
selected data and to test our hypothesis. Since our main objective of this research paper is to
determine the effect of income levels on the investment choices between RRSP and TFSA, the
sample from investors with both and neither plans were excluded when testing the hypothesis in
order to isolate the variables that we wanted to test. Therefore only 79 participants would be
considered when examining whether RRSP is better for high income investors. The investment
options of these 79 participants were shown as Illustration 4.3.1 as below. ... Show more content on

After removing those sample we were left with 79 participants who either chose TFSA or RRSP
for their retirement savings. For this test we used a significant level of 5%. With the degree of
freedom of 77 and a 5% significance level we arrived at a t value of 1.990 and 1.990. Since our
calculated t critical value of 1.019 does not fall into the rejection region of 1.990 and 1.990 we
have concluded that we do not reject the null hypothesis, shown as Illustration 4.3.6 as below.
Chapter 5 Major Findings and Discussion
The purpose of the survey was to determine whether there is a relationship between investors
income level and their investment options of RRSP and TFSA. Our literature review suggested that
investors with higher income would be more favourable when choosing RRSP rather than TFSA.
The null hypothesis was structured assuming there is no relationship between the income level and
the investment choices between RRSP and TFSA. Based on the t test we conducted using SPSS,
we do not reject the null hypothesis (H0), which suggests that with a significance level of 5% we
cannot conclude that the investors that chose RRSP had a higher income than the investors who
chose TFSA. Therefore, the test result turned out to be different from what we have concluded from
the literature review.
As we discussed based on the secondary research,

Examples Of Evil In Macbeth
The definition of evil is profound immorality, wickedness, and depravity, especially when
regarded as a supernatural force. The readers see these qualities in the main character, Macbeth.
This play, written by William Shakespeare, starts off by portraying Macbeth as a hero who helped
to win the battle for Scotland; this is the first impression of Macbeth. Macbeth is not the only
character that readers see profound immorality in; evilis seen in the people around Macbeth as he
makes his journey to the throne.
First, evil is shown in Macbeth when he expresses that he is willing to do anything to obtain
complete power. After the war is won, Macbeth is told by the witches that he will be promoted
to Thane of Cawdor, and even has the opportunity to be king of Scotland. Macbeth is indeed
promoted to Thane of Cawdor and immediately gets anxious to be king, and right now. Macbeth
is willing to kill the current King Duncan to earn his throne. This evil deed is the first time we
see wickedness in Macbeth. Macbeth says, Stars hide your fires! Let not see my black and deep
desires (I. iv. 52 53). Macbeth is now admitting to his own evil thoughts. Macbeth s killing streak is
not over and he will not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second time readers see evil in Macbeth, is when Lady Macbeth tells her husband that he is
not a real man when he is questioning if killing the king is what he needs to do. Yet do I fear thy
nature; It is too full o th milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way: thou wouldst be great,
Art not without ambition, but without the illness should attend it (I. v. 2 7). Lady Macbeth is now
as greedy as her husband for the power. She is the one who convinces him to kill his first victim.
As the show goes on, her less strength and confidence about their reign seems to hinder. Lady
Macbeth ends up committing suicide because she cannot handle the guilt of all the dispare she and
her husband have placed on

The Lord Of The Rings
Darkness extended over all of Middle Earth like a veil during the time of war. New laws were
enforced and the citizens freedom was taken away. Frodo s magic ring represents the
unsustainability of the environment, and the characters of Middle Earth. In The Lord of the Rings,
Tolkien uses the magic ring to reflect the politics of sustainability, by drawing from his own life
experiences. Two philosophers, Scruton and Hart write their recipes for sustainability. Scruton
believes that finding the right balance between beauty and piety can result in a love of place and
sustainability. Hart writes about anarcho monarchism and states that finding the balance between
anarchy, monarchism, and dictatorship, can lead to a sustainable culture. In... Show more content on

Once the magic ring was destroyed, the dark spell was lifted, the battlefield action ceased, and the
war was over. War is unstable, both for people physically and mentally, and for the environment.
Once a war is started, environmental sustainability is not a big priority. Destroying the enemy is the
purpose of war, but even when we use precise weapons, additional damage also occurs. This
unintentional damage can destroy ecosystems, and disregards the importance of protecting
recourses. To be sustainable, humans must stop destroying the natural systems. (Cairns, 2)
Frodo s magic ring symbolizes unsustainability. The ring caused war and brought out the greed
for power in individuals. Obtaining an object such as the ring causes isolation of the carrier, and
the feelings of desire and temptation are overwhelming (Carpenter, 431). Anarcho monarchists
believe societies should have a person to represent the culture of the community as a whole. Their
job does not include possessing more authority than others; the representative would have no
power. Other members of the community would owe the representative nothing. David Hart
related this idea of a powerless ruler, to the king piece in a game of chess. The king is the most
useless piece on the board, which occupies its square simply to prevent any other piece from doing
so, but which is somehow still the whole game . The second principle of the Earth Charter
addressed the importance of caring for the community with

Analysis Of This Land Is Your Land, By Woody Guthrie
This land is your land is one of the most famous song ever made. It was written and performed by
Woody Guthrie in 1940. It has become a very iconic American song that is learned in school and
performed by many famous artists. What is not known is, the true meaning of the song and
what Woody Guthrie message he was trying to portray in his song. To most Americans they
think of the song as a patriotic song , or the song that almost became our national anthem, but
there is a deeper meaning to the patriotic lyrics we all know. Guthrie wrote the song as a protest
song to protest the working class should have same rights as the rich, and america s lack of
empathy for those in poverty, and there should be more done for those struggling in the working
class and poverty. He believes America would thrive under a communist regime, where everyone
is equal and make the same amount of money no matter how hard they work or how much they
produce. All business and lands would be owned by the government and not the people as well. In
other words, it s about how America should follow a communist regime cause to Guthrie, things
were not going well under a democracy. The song is not about communism, rather tell about all the
struggles for those in poverty and the working class and a communist way can solve it. It can be
viewed from a non communists point of view but Guthrie intentions for the song was to support
communism so everyone is equal. Woody Guthriewas born in Oklahoma in 1912.

Organizational and Corporation Management
Organizational management has become more and more important to the corporation management.
Meanwhile, the leadership is an important part of organizational management, which can influence
to its quality of management. In this essay, we will discuss which behaviour and awareness that a
business leader to own, and the snare that they should to avoid in China.
We will discuss some behaviour we expect of business leaders can have. Leaders are those who
hope that the relationship between the leaders and those who choose to follow. How to become a
successful leader will dependent to build good human relationships and that is the use of those
workers ability (Kouzes, J. M. Posner, B. Z., 2003).
We can find five good behaviours that is becoming a successful business leader. Firstly, leaders
need inspire a shared vision, which means leaders need talk to others your personal values and
listening others expect to shared values. Alan Keith said, leaders need open their heart and talk to
other workers him personal values and really think, of course, leaders must know other workers
expect to do successfully. Secondly, challenge the process is a necessary ability for business leaders
(Kouzes, J. M. Posner, B. Z., 2003). Leaders need to understand clearly, innovation and change are
involved in the experiment, and failure risk, and they also pay attention to their constituents to
challenging situations, the ability to control and become completely determined to change. Thirdly,

How Does Zoot Suit Show Discrimination
Informative Essay Zoot Suit Racism runs rampant around the world and many people judge
others by their looks and ethnicity. This can be seen many times in the play, Zoot Suit by Luis
Valdez. Zoot Suit is a play about Henry Reyna and his street gang being accused and put on a
mass trial for a murder that they didn t commit and being found guilty for it. In the play, Henry
Reyna and his gang are discriminated by U.S. Navy sailors and the judge from their trial even
though they were supposed to uphold justice and order. In the real world this can be seen with
President Trump and his discrimination towards other races such as mexicans and middle
easterners. Discrimination occurs in both the real world and in the play from the people who are
suppose to uphold justice. An example of racism from the people who are suppose to uphold

Arguments Against Native American Mascots
Many people look at the Washington Redskins logo and see it just the same as any of the other
NFL teams logos. So, why take the time and money to change their brand for the very few
amount of people that think it s little offensive? In the past couple of years, a lot of people see
many pro and college sports teams differently because of their mascot or logo. Native Americans,
whose culture diminished ever since Europeans stepped onto the shores of the East, are used as
branding for all levels and divisions of athletics teams. A lot of people argue for both sides of the
conflict, with one side reasoning that the logos look racist and disrespect Native American culture,
and the other side reasoning that they honor Indians and there is not even an issue. However, a ton
of people fighting for the Indian mascot s removal do not know how Native Americans themselves
truly feel about them. Also, the general public probably does not know either that many schools
actually work with specific tribes to make sure that they respect their culture. The United States
should not ban Native American mascots because most Native Americans don t get insulted from
sports teams logos and many teams work with tribes to make sure that they don t disparage Indian
customs and traditions. A major key that people do not take into consideration when discussing the
conflict of Indian mascots is the direct opinions from Native Americans. National polls taken prove
Native Americans do not mind team logos

Lymphoma is cancer that occurs when cells of the immune system, called lymphocytes, a type of
white blood cell, grow and multiply uncontrollably (Lymphoma.org). Lymphocytes are in the lymph

Cancerous lymphocytes can travel to many parts of the body, including the lymph nodes, spleen,

The Most Remarkable Discovery Of Modern Cosmology
The Beginning of Time

In this lecture, I would like to discuss whether time itself has a beginning, and whether it will have
an end. All the evidence seems to indicate, that the universe has not existed forever, but that it had
a beginning, about 15 billion years ago. This is probably the most remarkable discovery of
modern cosmology. Yet it is now taken for granted. We are not yet certain whether the universe
will have an end. When I gave a lecture in Japan, I was asked not to mention the possible re
collapse of the universe, because it might affect the stock market. However, I can re assure
anyone who is nervous about their investments that it is a bit early to sell: even if the universe
does come to an end, it won t be for at least twenty billion years. By that time, maybe the GATT
trade agreement will have come into effect.
The time scale of the universe is very long compared to that for human life. It was therefore not
surprising that until recently, the universe was thought to be essentially static, and unchanging in
time. On the other hand, it must have been obvious, that society is evolving

Scrooge Symbolism
Based on what I read Scrooge is a grumpy person with no feeling for the people around him.
Dickens doesn t like this and says it is a big no no is his world. Scrooge spends money on only
what he needs to get by. He doesn t get why Christmas is such a big deal, even though everyone
else is celebrating it with cheer. In fact, he hates the Christmascheer and expresses his feelings. He
despises poor people and say that they should go to jail. He does not have any joy, but he s not
depressed. Scrooge almost wants to damage people s day and does it often. The text says he is a
hard worker as it states he was a tight fisted hand at the grind stone, Scrooge! A squeezing,
wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous, old sinner! He can also really stand the
elements, the cold., the hot, the rain, the snow, the... anything. Not only can he withstand the
elements, but based on the information from the text I inferred that he is the elements, resilient and
unforgiving.
The text explicitly states that the Spirit is the Ghost of Christmas Past (Scrooge s past), even the
spirit quotes I am the Ghost of Christmas Past in it conversation with Scrooge. First they went to
Scrooge s depressed and disheartened childhood. Immediately after seeing himself, he sobs with
bad memories. Scrooge says I wish ... but it s too late now , the spirit asks his what is the matter ,
Scrooge says, Nothing. There was a boy singing a Christmas Carol at my door last night. I should
like to have given him something that s all . This is Scrooge s first time thinking about doing
something favorable, after thinking about his childhood.
Then they go to another one of Scrooge s Christmas breaks spent at school, but in this instance,
his little sister comes to bring him home, she said that their dad finally let little Ebenezer come
home for good. Lastly Scrooge remembers the time he had partied one Christmas and for a few
bucks they made the whole neighborhood of kids happy. Scrooge s fiancee says that he cares too
much about money and not her so she breaks up with him. The ghost then disappears through the
floor. Scrooge wakes up and go to the other room to find lots food. He finds The Ghost of

The Effect Of Color On Your Thinking, Choice, Memory,...
Color psychology is the study of the effect of color on human behavior and perception. We are
influenced with all sorts of colors around us. When we see red color, we get a feeling of avoidance,
blue gives us a soothing and warm feeling and yellow makes you feel lively and joyful. Why it is
that sometimes our moods define what kind of colors we like and also the colorof the clothes we
wear. Black color stands for smart professional etiquette and gray gives you a very dull appearance.
All throughout the years, studies have been conducted to analyze the psychological impact of color
on your thinking, choice, memory, learning and cognitive recognition.
Today, companies are investing huge amounts to hire color consultants who advise them on how to
go about and which colors to use for their branding purposes. Coca cola is associated with red color
and Cadbury is associated with purple. Associating with a color proves to be beneficial for the
company as it gives them a different identity. The efficient use of colors can affect the mood of
consumers in a positive or negative way. Colors play a huge role in forming attitude and hence
managers understand the importance of colors in marketing. Rods detect light that is necessary
for colors to exist. Light affects the perception of colors. Whether it is the color of walls in a
restaurant or retail stores or merely the color of packaging on a product, it is usually electrical
lighting that allows colors to be seen. Colors have been

Compare And Contrast Their Eyes Were Watching God

Professor Lena Ampadu
English 233001
11 May 2015 The Disappointment of Their Eyes Were Watching God This essay will explain
why the movie Their Eyes Were Watching God differed from the book itself from which it was
made. In the book version of Their Eyes Were Watching God the idea of fellowship is portrayed
profusely, but the movie has a different viewpoint. The movie over sexualized the book to make it
seem more appealing to the people, but it makes the movie seem poor of quality. One of the most
important things the movie forgets to present is the coming of age of Janie. By not representing
the characters and the scenes precisely the movie lacks being worthy of such a good book. The
movie is fantastic, the acting is magnificent, and the creator has very good parallels, but the most
important problem is that the movie doesn t illustrate the sense of community that Zora Neal
Hurston represents intensely in her book Their Eyes Were Watching God
. This now becomes a
problem because the book is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would be an irony to say that the authors took creative freedom over the story to make it
sellable. Janie is a good looking African American with good hair and good looks. Hurston then
describes Janie in the male perspective as having Firm Buttocks like she had grape fruits in her
hip pockets; the great rope of black hair swinging to her waist and unraveling in the wind like a
plume; then her pugnacious breasts trying to bore hole in her shirt (Hurston 2). Hurston
describes Janie this way to give light to Janie, even though Janie s looks isn t what s the most
important. The movie inappropriately focuses on the sexuality of Janie. Using Halle Berry as
the actress was a good choice because she s beautiful and she s a great actor. The only problem is
that they over sexualized the plot and used Halle Berry s looks to make the movie seem more

Essay on Parkinson’s Disease and Action of Drugs on Movement
Parkinson s Disease and Action of Drugs on Movement
Introduction:
Parkinson s disease is a neurological disorder that seriously impairs motor function, with people
afflicted with this condition exhibiting akinesia, muscle rigidity and having a tremor at rest. It is
accepted that the loss of motor function is brought upon by the progressive degeneration of
nigrostriatal dopamine neurons, which leads to a corresponding loss of dopamine in the caudate
/putamen part of the basal ganglia, which is accepted as the main receiving area in motor circuits.
Information coming to it from the cortex and thalamus is processed and channeled to the pallidum
and to the substantia nigra reticular. There are two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aside from functioning as a neurotransmitter, dopamine is also the precursor to noradrenaline in all
central and peripheral noradrenergic neurons. Dopamine is made from the precursor Tyrosine
which is converted to DOPA by the enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase, and DOPA is then converted to
dopamine by the enzyme dopa decarboxylase. This enzyme has a much higher activity in
comparison to tyrosine hydroxylase so under normal conditions there is little or no endogenous
DOPA found in most cells.
The first line of treatment for a patient is to replenish their dopamine stores, which have
diminished due to loss of dopaminergic neurones. As dopamine cannot cross the blood brain
barrier it is of no use to simply administer dopamine, instead its precursor L DOPA is given. This
is able to cross the blood brain barrier upon which it is then converted to dopamine by aromatic
amino acid decarboxylase. However L DOPA can also be converted to dopamine in the periphery,
which can cause unwanted effects and so to prevent this a decarboxylase inhibitor is given. Not
only does this reduce adverse effects but also lowers the effective dose.
Dopamine is rapidly taken up into storage vesicles by an energy dependent transporter mediated
process, achieving high local concentrations within the storage vesicles by complexing with

Advantages Of Being A Male Cheerleader

make my decision.
Arkansas University is in Fayetteville Arkansas, and has many opportunities for me. Throughout
my grade school years at Waldron High School, I have been a cheerleader. As well as being a
competitive cheerleader through Statik Fusion and won nationals. With the experience I have
gained through the school system I am able to take what I learned and apply my knowledge to the

able to learn how to write music, also known as music notation. They also do what is called

and electric hook ups. In the music program they also have what is called music performance.
Examples of music performance would be, concerts, live speaking, live shows included also would
be any type of choir and band. (U of A admissions)
Although cheer and my education are very important, i want to be able to have a good student
life. Even tho I say a good student life I do not mean good parties, and crazy people. What I
mean by that statement? I want a collage that will provide good student teacher relationships, in
addition good study to homework ratio. Even though I will study to make sure I get good
grades, I want free time. Time out of the classroom and with friends. The reason I think U of A is a
good fit for me would be due to the fact that Fay Town is a good place to eat and find things to

The Presidential Selection Of 1860
The presidential selection of 1860 set the stage for the American Civil war. By 1860, the nation
had been at odds mostly up to that point regarding questions of states rights and slavery in the
territories. Southerners were livid over the preparation by an abolitionist, John Brown, to establish a
slave uprising at Harper Ferry, Virginia. This event garnered headlines all over the nation in
newspapers and magazines. On the other hand, the Northern Republic seemed equally infuriated by
the Supreme Court verdict in the case of Dred Scott v. Stanford, which affirmed free soil
unconstitutional. The Northern Democrats, however, struggled to convince the Americans that
their guidelines of popular sovereignty still made sense. Enter the presidential election of 1860,
which brought these tribulations to a clash with dramatic cost. The Democratic Party divided into
three groups along their provincial lines, with each person vying for control of the party and each
holding dissimilar ideas about how to deal with servitude in the West. Their candidates consisted of
John C. Breckinride, John Bell, and Stephen A. Douglas; their efforts would be rubbish, however,
as Abraham Lincoln would be triumphant for the Republican Party. Lincoln stood on the grounds
that the West should be completely liberated of slavery entirely; which apparently was sufficient as
he won the election with less than forty percent of the popular vote. On a side note about the
election, fifty nine percent of the

The Pros And Cons Of Wildlife Management
Wildlife management is one of the many branches within Natural Resource Management. This
branch specifically dedicates its time and resources to doing exactly what it sounds like managing
wildlife and the habitat they live in. However, they do this through not directly manipulating the
organisms and habitats, but through the regulations of humans and their activities. It is easier to
help animals by controlling human activity than it is to control the animal s activity. That is why
the true focus of wildlife management lies in managing people, not the animals.
There are numerous ways that humans affect wildlife, both in positive and negative ways. Humans
act as a predator to populations where natural predators have a small population or have been
extirpated from an area. They can remove aggressive or sick animals from a population. Some of
the more negative impacts of humans can be over harvesting a population to the point of an
endangered status or driving them to extinction. When settlers began to expand westward, many
saw economic opportunity. Whether it was trapping beavers for their fur, killing bison for hides,
or trapping songbirds for their feathers, people were tearing populations apart just to make money.
It seemed as if America was plentiful and had an infinite amount of resources. However, that was
not the case. Due to people s carelessness, many species that once roamed the land and skies are
now extinct. Back then, there were no hunting regulations for humans and no legal protection for
the animals. One such animals that has suffered from this was the Carolina parakeet (Conuropsis
carolinensis). This species was a beautiful yellow and orange headed, green bodied parakeet that
inhabited the Eastern United States. It was hunted for a number of things, including destroying
farmers crops and having a high demand in the feather trade due to their vibrant colors. Both of
these factors in combination with the destruction of the bird s habitat led to their population decline
and extinction in the 1920 s. (Cornell Lab of Ornithology).
A great majority of the extinctions that have occurred throughout history can have the causes traced
back to human activity. People realized that extensive and

Anti Corruption Watchdog Transparency International Ranks...
Corruption is a treacherous plague that has a wide range of volatile effects on societies; it
undermines democracy and the rule of law, which leads to violations of human rights, distortion of
markets, and it erodes the quality of life allowing for organized crime, terrorism, and other threats to
human security. Corruptionis universal, as it is found in all countries, yet it does the most damage to
the developing world. Corruption hurts the poor disproportionately by diverting funds intended for
development, undermining a government s ability to provide basic services, feeding inequality and
injustice and discouraging foreign aid and investment. Corruption is rampant in India, as it has taken
a prevalent role of Indian politics and bureaucracy. Corruption in India has been one of the most
interesting and discussed problems in modern political history. Anti corruption watchdog

2.General Motors pension fund obligations and health care obligations appear to threaten the
future of the company. Majority of General Motors U.S. employees are members of the United
Auto Worker (UAW) Union, which ensures health insurance for its members by entering into
contractual agreements with employers. The United Auto Workers officers and GM s senior
managers decided decades ago to agree to high pension and health benefits in exchange for reduced
increases in wages. Health care benefits are tax free income for workers. Even retired workers are
covered. It seemed like a low risk deal for GM. Nobody thought about the price effects on health
care of Medicare. The health care market (15% of the U.S. GDP), like all markets, is a giant
auction. If bidders get their hands on more money, they will bid up prices. All over America,
workers are bidding health care prices. So are retirees. General Motors is therefore required to incur

Virginia Woolf
The impact of now and here The beginning of the twentieth century witnessed a major change in the
understanding of the world and, with no doubt, in creating a new relationship with reality and
whatever this provided to every human being. This change has influenced many artists and writers,
including Virginia Woolf
, who eventually became one of the most important modernists of the
twentieth century. In their book entitled Modernism 1890 1930, Bradbury and McFarlane define
modernism as an art of a rapidly modernizing world, a world of rapid industrial development,
advanced technology, urbanization, secularization and mass forms of social life but also the art of a

This kind of writing mirrors verbally what many experimental visual artists were doing in terms of
painting at the tum of the twentieth century. Woolf s step in this direction in literature shows the
influence of Roger Fry, particularly the Post Impressionist Exhibition and other influential artists
that Woolf came into contact with through Bloomsbury and mutual acquaintances. These artists
inspired Woolf to use elements of both post impressionism and cubism verbally to make her
stories like paintings that move, clear and distinct but always shifting. She incorporates both the
emotional elements of post impressionism and the fragmented methods of cubism to create her
own representation of life. Mrs Dalloway allows us to enter a world where we can see clearly
how time and space interview. Through her character s eyes, we can feel and see everything they
see, we get to understand a world not only through our perspective, but from various points of view.

Thinking As A Nurse
Being a nurse is a profession. With each profession, there is a certain amount of knowledge that
needs to be applied to be able to carry out the necessary tasks. In the nursing field, as students we
are required to learn the human anatomy, pathophysiology, and pharmacology to apply it to
practice. Prior to reading Thinking as a Nurse, I had already developed a notion of what it meant to
think like a nurse. Thinking like a nurse in my own terms, means to know how the body functions,
general concepts, and lab values to ensure the safety of my patients. Thinking as a nurse involves
patience, planning ahead for negative outcomes, and being able to adapt well to changes. I feel as
though in the nursing field, there are constantly changes in a patients... Show more content on

In the book it discusses that being a nurse does not only require a skill set, but to analyze
situations. I believe it is important to always analyze situations, but having skills that you are
able to perform is crucial in nursing. Without knowing how to perform certain tasks precisely,
you are placing your patient at risk for harm. For example, skills such sterile dressing, changing
wounds, and inserting a catheter are all very important. Without the knowledge and ability to do
those skills effectively, it puts the patients at harm. While I do understand what the author is
trying to say, I still believe technical skills are not a distraction. Putting information together is
also very important, but I believe making sure your skills are performable is very critical. Also, I
disagree that memorization is not needed in nursing. The nursing field requires memorization and
also applying the information. But, if you can t remember a pathophysiology, how are you able to
apply it to a patient? You must first memorize how the body functions, and then how it can have
abnormalities. This is advantage to my patients, because it gives me a baseline. Once I understood
what body function is not functioning correctly, I am then able to review the labs necessary. I do
agree with the concept that the nurse has to think like a nurse. This is important because if you are
oblivious to patient safety then you are increasing the chance of harm happening to patients. It is
also important to be thoughtful of our position, in the relationship of patient and nurse. We are
obligated by law to carry out our responsibilities effectively. Being mindful reduces the likelihood of
medication errors, and also reduces the chance of infection. Additionally, I do agree that nursing
requires teamwork. It is important to have teamwork, because without it you may not know pertinent

Outline
Hypothesis
My belief was that the hot water would make the crystals grow quicker versus warm or cold
water temperature. But I did believe the warm would make them grow to, but the cold water
would be to cold for the crystals to grow
Thesis
The purpose of this experiment was to determine which temperature (hot, cold or room temperature)
affects the growth of crystals the most.
What are crystals?
Crystals are a piece of a solid substance with a natural shape or form with arranged plane faces. A
crystal is a group of molecules or atoms. Each of the crystals have a different shape. Like a sugar
crystal have an oblong, slanted end; and salt crystals have a cubic shape. Some substance will make
more than one form of crystals.

growing human rights movement and awareness among individuals, many countries still continue
to violate the human rightsof their citizens. There could be many reasons for this trend, but there are
certain factors that could indicate why some countries have higher levels of human rights violations

866). Their rationality is based on the fact that democracy empowers the masses that are able to use
this power to fight back and prevent their government from abusing their human rights.
Democracy also makes it easier for citizens to report instances of state repression to the
international community, thus forcing abusive leaders to either stop the abuses or to renounce
their power (Poe Tate, 1994, p. 855 866). In a semi democratic country like Russia, this
empowerment of the masses has less strength to significantly prevent state repression, and
sometimes the ability to shed light on abuses is difficult since mass media is practically
controlled by the abusive government. Similarly, Davenport (1995) argues that democratic
governments are less likely to use repression when dealing with mass demonstrations because
their nature is to allow expressions of freedom by the citizenry, which they are aware always
comes with a level of domestic disorder. This awareness decreases the use of violence against the
citizens (p. 690 691). Since Russia is a semi democratic state, government respect and awareness of
citizens freedom in not yet well developed, so the government continues to react violently and to
use repression when dealing with mass demonstrations, as it was the nature of the pre existing
socialist government.

Lorde s Writing Style
With the alternative music scene mainly dominated by guitar wielding male artists who bear
similar sounds and tunes, it is beyond refreshing to hear the unique melodies and mysterious
tones of Ella Yelich O Connor. The New Zealand native singer songwriter, who is more recently
known as Lorde has been compared to nineties alternative bands such as Mazzy Star and
Portishead (Lipshutz, Jason). According to a Clash Music article, Lorde s songs do not rely on
open letters, open legs, or twerking. Her moments of sharp satire and sentimental brevity are what
s helping her stand out among her pop competitors like Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift (Zadeh,
Jason). Worried less about the emotional baggage of a prosperous music career, Lorde would rather

Lorde s first performance in the United States was a headline show at Le Poisson Rouge in New
York City on August 6, 2013. The captivating tune intrigued radio listeners from around the
world, becoming the first song by a female solo artist to steal the number one spot on Nielsen
BDS based Alternative Chart since Tracy Bonham s Mother, Mother in 1996, five months
before Lorde was even born (Billboard Magazine). Royals went on to accomplish much more
than just that. The single took home Best Song of 2013 by MTV News. The hit song was also
nominated for four GRAMMY Awards in 2013, winning two: Song of the Year and Best Pop
Solo Performance (Grammy.com) Who would have guessed that the biggest breakout star of
2013 would be a disarmingly regular teenager and would set the mark for the longest lead female
reign in a twenty five year history of the Billboard Alternative Music Chart (Trust, Gary)?Despite
the release of Lorde s initial album in 2013, the singer songwriter has been fairly busy since then
creating an astonishing soundtrack for The Hunger Games movie in 2014. As for what comes
next, Lorde and Little are hard at work on a second album. Previously, Little stated that Lorde is to

Football In Friday Night Lights By Buzz Bissinger
In the famous book Friday Night Lights by Buzz Bissinger he details a story of a place called
Odessa texas and its extreme love for football. Throughout the book he details the 1988 season of
the Permian High School panthers football season and the events it brings about. However,
although football is a great pastime it kills kids lives in Odessa Texasleaving them confused and
unprepared by too much community involvement, unrealistic expectations, and excessive dreams.
In high school we try to live it up and get as much in as we can experience. For Odessa high school
football is everything and what thrills the town and they love friday night football. Although it is
great the boys are always doing something involved with football and being successful in the ...

Constantly the boys are instilled with the dreams that they are gonna be big in college and then
possibly the NFL. Realistically this is very untrue as in Permian s fifty five year football history,
only six players have tried for or made the pro leagues telling us that football is not a good
career. The boys envision themselves playing for some of the biggest colleges in the nation,
however for many they want even have the grades to stay in college academically. Charlie
Billingsley found out that life in college was a whole lot different ...you were a whole lot more
expendable in college...there was always a bunch of guys ready to replace you in a second
(Bissinger 63).Furthermore the boys once in college will finally realize that they are disposable.
No more are they the once stars that they were in Odessa but players needed to get wins and a good

Women s Roles In Canada During World War I
From the beginning of Canadian history, women have assumed a great amount of responsibility in
the participation in defense of their homes and communities (Chenier). Before WWI, the majority
of women outside the working class did not work due to the natural assumption as the motherly
figure and caretaker of the family. As Canada entered the war, the men of the households embarked
for the front while the women were forced to undertake numerous responsibilities. Women were
required to substitute for the role of men in their communities by engaging in employment typically
associated with the opposite sex and supporting them from afar while managing their family and
home. Thus the circumstances of Canada during WWI have immensely shaped the gender... Show

Suffrage movements had been gaining strength since the turn of the century (Anderson). The
movements was hampered by the years of war as women believed that the focus of supporting
their family and economy should be maintained. Afterwards, when the war ended, the gaps left by
men then filled by women were returned to men. Women were expected to reinstate the role of
housewife. Such women who worked during the war on the home front began to campaign for
equal rights, such as the right to work the same occupations as men and receive equal pay as well
as the right to vote. Some women in the war were even content with their duties because they had
more rights, and the freedom to make their own decisions (Sungrab, Tenzin. Women s Rights
During ). A Women s War Conference was called by the federal government in 1918 to discuss the
continuing role of women, taking the opportunity to raise a number of political issues, including

The World s First Short Message Service
On December 3, 1992, the world s first short message service, or SMS, was sent. Neil Papworth, a
22 year old communications engineer from the United Kingdom sent the simple message Merry
Christmas, to a friend via PC (Gayomali, 2012). Like almost all new technologies, the initial
reception of the SMSwas slow. In 1995, two years after Nokia released the first ever texting
phone, the average American user sent just 0.4 texts per month (Gayomali and Erickson, 2012).
Almost 22 years later, six billion SMS messages are sent every day in the United States (Kelly,
2012). Text messagingis one of the most widely used data applications in the world, as 81% of
cellphone users have texting as an option on their phones (Erickson, 2012). As its popularity has
continued to grow at an exponential rate, it more frequently raises the question of whether or not
the act of text messaging has ruined the art of conversation. Texting has many advantages. For one,
the recipient of a text does not have to be present to receive a message. Currently, the majority of
text messages are sent to individuals for personal reasons (Faulkner, 2012). Though it is not face to
face communication, texting is used as a one to one method of communication between friends,
particularly teenagers (Faulkner, 2012). Long distance relationships, friendships and various other
connections have become possible due to the fact that people can communicate on a constant basis
despite being apart. Texting has

Mussolini Rise to Power
Mussolini
Benito Mussolini appears to stride through 20th century Italian history like a buffoon, a fascist
dictator whose ludicrous posing was dwarfed by the incalculably more sinister nature of Adolf
Hitler s Nazi regime.
Young socialist
Mussolini was born in 1883. As a young man, he was a rousing orator, a tireless journalist and a
socialist. In 1912, after years of hack journalism and self promotion, he was appointed editor of the
Socialist Party newspaper Avanti!, preaching left wing revolution.
But, when the First World War broke out, and Mussolini called for Italyto ally itself with France, he
was expelled from the party, whose policy was neutrality. When Italy joined the war, Mussolini
fought in the army, then after peace in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was no systematic discrimination against Jews; and political opponents were imprisoned or
exiled to remote regions of Italy rather than thrown into concentration camps.
Fatal attraction
In 1933, Hitler came to power in Germany. Although Mussolini was the senior Fascist, he soon
recognised Hitler as the dominant figure on the European stage. Reversing his earlier policies, and
despite the fact that he had once had a Jewish mistress, Mussolini introduced anti Semitic
legislation.
In 1935, Mussolini tried to demonstrate Italy s power by invading Abyssinia (now Ethiopia). The
following year, Italy joined Germany in providing military support to General Franco s
Nationalists in the Spanish Civil War, while Hitler supported Mussolini s fantasies about a new
Italian empire. In 1940, Italy entered the Second World War on Germany s side.
Mismanaged, ill equipped and worn down by years of fighting in Abyssinia and Spain, Italian
forces were routed in Greece and got bogged down in North Africa. In the spring of 1943, they
were driven out of Africa; on 10 July, Allied forces landed in Sicily. Soon after, Mussolini was
deposed by the Fascist Grand Council and the king. In September, Italy signed an armistice with the
Allies, and Mussolini was arrested and held in a remote hotel in the Apennines.
But Hitler couldn t let Italy fall without a fight: the Germans invaded the country, Mussolini was

  • 2. Comparing Conrad s Heart Of Darkness And Francis Ford Coppola Narrative figures Marlow and Willard in Joseph Conrad s Novella Heart of Darkness and Francis Ford Coppola s film Apocalypse Now (1979) both play specific roles in presenting their composers ideas. Marlow in Heart of Darkness is characterized as philosophic, skeptic that is intrigued by the ideals Kurtz displays. Willard on the other hand is figure who is suffering his own loss of identity the further he becomes aware of the atrocities that war and human nature possesses. Both composers, even though they have varying contextual eras portray similar ideals, including the hypocrisy of Imperialism, the capacity for savagery and evil inherent in all humans as well as the emergence of corruption within all of humanity the further we are exposed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Heart of Darkness, Conrad uses Marlow to represent this idea in depth during the ending of his text to where Kurtz is dying and his intended is distressed. Through the use of listing of work tools which act as metaphor of his struggles I lived in and infernal mess of rust, fillings, nuts ... things I abominate, because I don t get on with them , demonstrates how Marlow has been touched by the darkness the further he was exposed to it. Conrad additionally represents this idea when Marlow lies to Kurtz intended during their confrontation. I seemed to hear the whispered cry the horror! The horror! the repetition here showcases how Kurtz s corruption is within him even before he meets his fiancГ©. To continue the irony displayed in the line the last word he pronounced was your name illustrates Conrad s idea that we are all touched by corruption and darkness even if we seem to completely innocent soul. Contrast to Marlow, Coppola uses the narrative figure of Willard to showcases how corruption can touch you but you can still escape its presence. During the final sequence in Apocalypse now, through the mise en scene of dead bodies, fog and rain we see Willard via a low angle shot rising from the depths of water (corruption) getting ready to kill Kurtz. Even though all of humanity is capable of corruption through darkness we are still are able to overcome its effect. Coppola emphasizes this thought the chiaroscuro displayed on half of Willards face as he attempts to make a decision to join the corruption laid down by Kurtz. Through a dissolve of rain representing the symbol of cleansing and the absence of natural sound, Coppola is showing again this ability of humanity to overcome corruption even if we are touched by ... • 6. The Reign Of The Holy Roman Empire On Christmas day of 800 A.D., Pope Leo III crowned Charlemagne the Holy Roman Emperor. This pivotal, but not necessarily wanted, moment in the history of the Catholic Church set up a precedent for very strong relations between the Holy Roman Emperor and the papacy. During the eleventh century, with the Holy Roman Emperor ruled by Henry IV, relations with the papacy came to a front over several disagreement between Henry IV and PopeGregory VII. Their arguments mainly focused on the power that each institution should hold. Gregory felt that the papacy should play a larger political role in the western church and that lay investiture was against the will of God. Henry was conservative and did not want Rome intruding any more on his rule of the Holy Roman Emperor and accused Gregory of being a usurper and a fraud. In the midst of this argument, Gregory released various decrees, known as the Dictatus Papae, which greatly increased the power of the Papacy while reducing that of the Holy Roman Empire. The mere fact that Gregory felt the need to issue these decrees, in combination with the harsh reaction of Henry IV and the Bishops of Germany, prove that the papacy did not have effective authority over the Western church and institution. The imposition of the Gregorian reforms alone and the Pope s defense of them show how the papacy was not an institution of great authority in the Western church and lacked command among its constituents. The Gregorian reforms were not, as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Effect Of Income Levels On The Investment Choices... 4.3 Results for Objective #2 Whether RRSP is better for high income earners Based on our data collected, we have compiled tables and graphs in order to visually represent our selected data and to test our hypothesis. Since our main objective of this research paper is to determine the effect of income levels on the investment choices between RRSP and TFSA, the sample from investors with both and neither plans were excluded when testing the hypothesis in order to isolate the variables that we wanted to test. Therefore only 79 participants would be considered when examining whether RRSP is better for high income investors. The investment options of these 79 participants were shown as Illustration 4.3.1 as below. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After removing those sample we were left with 79 participants who either chose TFSA or RRSP for their retirement savings. For this test we used a significant level of 5%. With the degree of freedom of 77 and a 5% significance level we arrived at a t value of 1.990 and 1.990. Since our calculated t critical value of 1.019 does not fall into the rejection region of 1.990 and 1.990 we have concluded that we do not reject the null hypothesis, shown as Illustration 4.3.6 as below. Chapter 5 Major Findings and Discussion The purpose of the survey was to determine whether there is a relationship between investors income level and their investment options of RRSP and TFSA. Our literature review suggested that investors with higher income would be more favourable when choosing RRSP rather than TFSA. The null hypothesis was structured assuming there is no relationship between the income level and the investment choices between RRSP and TFSA. Based on the t test we conducted using SPSS, we do not reject the null hypothesis (H0), which suggests that with a significance level of 5% we cannot conclude that the investors that chose RRSP had a higher income than the investors who chose TFSA. Therefore, the test result turned out to be different from what we have concluded from the literature review. As we discussed based on the secondary research, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Examples Of Evil In Macbeth The definition of evil is profound immorality, wickedness, and depravity, especially when regarded as a supernatural force. The readers see these qualities in the main character, Macbeth. This play, written by William Shakespeare, starts off by portraying Macbeth as a hero who helped to win the battle for Scotland; this is the first impression of Macbeth. Macbeth is not the only character that readers see profound immorality in; evilis seen in the people around Macbeth as he makes his journey to the throne. First, evil is shown in Macbeth when he expresses that he is willing to do anything to obtain complete power. After the war is won, Macbeth is told by the witches that he will be promoted to Thane of Cawdor, and even has the opportunity to be king of Scotland. Macbeth is indeed promoted to Thane of Cawdor and immediately gets anxious to be king, and right now. Macbeth is willing to kill the current King Duncan to earn his throne. This evil deed is the first time we see wickedness in Macbeth. Macbeth says, Stars hide your fires! Let not see my black and deep desires (I. iv. 52 53). • 12. The Lord Of The Rings Darkness extended over all of Middle Earth like a veil during the time of war. New laws were enforced and the citizens freedom was taken away. Frodo s magic ring represents the unsustainability of the environment, and the characters of Middle Earth. In The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien uses the magic ring to reflect the politics of sustainability, by drawing from his own life experiences. Two philosophers, Scruton and Hart write their recipes for sustainability. Scruton believes that finding the right balance between beauty and piety can result in a love of place and sustainability. Hart writes about anarcho monarchism and states that finding the balance between anarchy, monarchism, and dictatorship, can lead to a sustainable culture. In... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the magic ring was destroyed, the dark spell was lifted, the battlefield action ceased, and the war was over. War is unstable, both for people physically and mentally, and for the environment. Once a war is started, environmental sustainability is not a big priority. Destroying the enemy is the purpose of war, but even when we use precise weapons, additional damage also occurs. This unintentional damage can destroy ecosystems, and disregards the importance of protecting recourses. To be sustainable, humans must stop destroying the natural systems. (Cairns, 2) Frodo s magic ring symbolizes unsustainability. The ring caused war and brought out the greed for power in individuals. Obtaining an object such as the ring causes isolation of the carrier, and the feelings of desire and temptation are overwhelming (Carpenter, 431). Anarcho monarchists believe societies should have a person to represent the culture of the community as a whole. Their job does not include possessing more authority than others; the representative would have no power. Other members of the community would owe the representative nothing. David Hart related this idea of a powerless ruler, to the king piece in a game of chess. • 13. Analysis Of This Land Is Your Land, By Woody Guthrie This land is your land is one of the most famous song ever made. It was written and performed by Woody Guthrie in 1940. It has become a very iconic American song that is learned in school and performed by many famous artists. What is not known is, the true meaning of the song and what Woody Guthrie message he was trying to portray in his song. To most Americans they think of the song as a patriotic song , or the song that almost became our national anthem, but there is a deeper meaning to the patriotic lyrics we all know. Guthrie wrote the song as a protest song to protest the working class should have same rights as the rich, and america s lack of empathy for those in poverty, and there should be more done for those struggling in the working class and poverty. He believes America would thrive under a communist regime, where everyone is equal and make the same amount of money no matter how hard they work or how much they produce. All business and lands would be owned by the government and not the people as well. In other words, it s about how America should follow a communist regime cause to Guthrie, things were not going well under a democracy. The song is not about communism, rather tell about all the struggles for those in poverty and the working class and a communist way can solve it. It can be viewed from a non communists point of view but Guthrie intentions for the song was to support communism so everyone is equal. Woody Guthriewas born in Oklahoma in 1912. ... So, why take the time and money to change their brand for the very few amount of people that think it s little offensive? In the past couple of years, a lot of people see many pro and college sports teams differently because of their mascot or logo. Native Americans, whose culture diminished ever since Europeans stepped onto the shores of the East, are used as branding for all levels and divisions of athletics teams. A lot of people argue for both sides of the conflict, with one side reasoning that the logos look racist and disrespect Native American culture, and the other side reasoning that they honor Indians and there is not even an issue. However, a ton of people fighting for the Indian mascot s removal do not know how Native Americans themselves truly feel about them. Also, the general public probably does not know either that many schools actually work with specific tribes to make sure that they respect their culture. The United States should not ban Native American mascots because most Native Americans don t get insulted from sports teams logos and many teams work with tribes to make sure that they don t disparage Indian customs and traditions. A major key that people do not take into consideration when discussing the conflict of Indian mascots is the direct opinions from Native Americans. Note that there may be incorrect spellings, punctuation and/or grammar in this document. This is to allow correct pronunciation and timing by a speech synthesiser. Picture In this lecture, I would like to discuss whether time itself has a beginning, and whether it will have an end. All the evidence seems to indicate, that the universe has not existed forever, but that it had a beginning, about 15 billion years ago. This is probably the most remarkable discovery of modern cosmology. Yet it is now taken for granted. We are not yet certain whether the universe will have an end. When I gave a lecture in Japan, I was asked not to mention the possible re collapse of the universe, because it might affect the stock market. However, I can re assure anyone who is nervous about their investments that it is a bit early to sell: even if the universe does come to an end, it won t be for at least twenty billion years. By that time, maybe the GATT trade agreement will have come into effect. The time scale of the universe is very long compared to that for human life. It was therefore not surprising that until recently, the universe was thought to be essentially static, and unchanging in time. Aside from functioning as a neurotransmitter, dopamine is also the precursor to noradrenaline in all central and peripheral noradrenergic neurons. Dopamine is made from the precursor Tyrosine which is converted to DOPA by the enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase, and DOPA is then converted to dopamine by the enzyme dopa decarboxylase. This enzyme has a much higher activity in comparison to tyrosine hydroxylase so under normal conditions there is little or no endogenous DOPA found in most cells. The first line of treatment for a patient is to replenish their dopamine stores, which have diminished due to loss of dopaminergic neurones. As dopamine cannot cross the blood brain barrier it is of no use to simply administer dopamine, instead its precursor L DOPA is given. This is able to cross the blood brain barrier upon which it is then converted to dopamine by aromatic amino acid decarboxylase. However L DOPA can also be converted to dopamine in the periphery, which can cause unwanted effects and so to prevent this a decarboxylase inhibitor is given. Not only does this reduce adverse effects but also lowers the effective dose. Dopamine is rapidly taken up into storage vesicles by an energy dependent transporter mediated process, achieving high local concentrations within the storage vesicles by complexing with ... By 1860, the nation had been at odds mostly up to that point regarding questions of states rights and slavery in the territories. Southerners were livid over the preparation by an abolitionist, John Brown, to establish a slave uprising at Harper Ferry, Virginia. This event garnered headlines all over the nation in newspapers and magazines. On the other hand, the Northern Republic seemed equally infuriated by the Supreme Court verdict in the case of Dred Scott v. Stanford, which affirmed free soil unconstitutional. The Northern Democrats, however, struggled to convince the Americans that their guidelines of popular sovereignty still made sense. Enter the presidential election of 1860, which brought these tribulations to a clash with dramatic cost. The Democratic Party divided into three groups along their provincial lines, with each person vying for control of the party and each holding dissimilar ideas about how to deal with servitude in the West. Their candidates consisted of John C. Breckinride, John Bell, and Stephen A. Douglas; their efforts would be rubbish, however, as Abraham Lincoln would be triumphant for the Republican Party. • 36. The Pros And Cons Of Wildlife Management Wildlife management is one of the many branches within Natural Resource Management. This branch specifically dedicates its time and resources to doing exactly what it sounds like managing wildlife and the habitat they live in. However, they do this through not directly manipulating the organisms and habitats, but through the regulations of humans and their activities. It is easier to help animals by controlling human activity than it is to control the animal s activity. That is why the true focus of wildlife management lies in managing people, not the animals. There are numerous ways that humans affect wildlife, both in positive and negative ways. Humans act as a predator to populations where natural predators have a small population or have been extirpated from an area. They can remove aggressive or sick animals from a population. Some of the more negative impacts of humans can be over harvesting a population to the point of an endangered status or driving them to extinction. When settlers began to expand westward, many saw economic opportunity. Whether it was trapping beavers for their fur, killing bison for hides, or trapping songbirds for their feathers, people were tearing populations apart just to make money. It seemed as if America was plentiful and had an infinite amount of resources. However, that was not the case. Due to people s carelessness, many species that once roamed the land and skies are now extinct. Back then, there were no hunting regulations for humans and no legal protection for the animals. One such animals that has suffered from this was the Carolina parakeet (Conuropsis carolinensis). This species was a beautiful yellow and orange headed, green bodied parakeet that inhabited the Eastern United States. It was hunted for a number of things, including destroying farmers crops and having a high demand in the feather trade due to their vibrant colors. Both of these factors in combination with the destruction of the bird s habitat led to their population decline and extinction in the 1920 s. (Cornell Lab of Ornithology). A great majority of the extinctions that have occurred throughout history can have the causes traced back to human activity. People realized that extensive and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Corruption is a treacherous plague that has a wide range of volatile effects on societies; it undermines democracy and the rule of law, which leads to violations of human rights, distortion of markets, and it erodes the quality of life allowing for organized crime, terrorism, and other threats to human security. Corruptionis universal, as it is found in all countries, yet it does the most damage to the developing world. Corruption hurts the poor disproportionately by diverting funds intended for development, undermining a government s ability to provide basic services, feeding inequality and injustice and discouraging foreign aid and investment. Corruption is rampant in India, as it has taken a prevalent role of Indian politics and bureaucracy. Majority of General Motors U.S. employees are members of the United Auto Worker (UAW) Union, which ensures health insurance for its members by entering into contractual agreements with employers. The United Auto Workers officers and GM s senior managers decided decades ago to agree to high pension and health benefits in exchange for reduced increases in wages. Health care benefits are tax free income for workers. Even retired workers are covered. It seemed like a low risk deal for GM. Nobody thought about the price effects on health care of Medicare. The health care market (15% of the U.S. GDP), like all markets, is a giant auction. If bidders get their hands on more money, they will bid up prices. All over America, workers are bidding health care prices. So are retirees. General Motors is therefore required to incur heavy expenditure on health insurance for its U.S. employees. This change has influenced many artists and writers, including Virginia Woolf , who eventually became one of the most important modernists of the twentieth century. Woolf s step in this direction in literature shows the influence of Roger Fry, particularly the Post Impressionist Exhibition and other influential artists that Woolf came into contact with through Bloomsbury and mutual acquaintances. These artists inspired Woolf to use elements of both post impressionism and cubism verbally to make her stories like paintings that move, clear and distinct but always shifting. She incorporates both the emotional elements of post impressionism and the fragmented methods of cubism to create her own representation of life. Mrs Dalloway allows us to enter a world where we can see clearly how time and space interview. • 42. Thinking As A Nurse Being a nurse is a profession. With each profession, there is a certain amount of knowledge that needs to be applied to be able to carry out the necessary tasks. In the nursing field, as students we are required to learn the human anatomy, pathophysiology, and pharmacology to apply it to practice. Prior to reading Thinking as a Nurse, I had already developed a notion of what it meant to think like a nurse. Thinking like a nurse in my own terms, means to know how the body functions, general concepts, and lab values to ensure the safety of my patients. Thinking as a nurse involves patience, planning ahead for negative outcomes, and being able to adapt well to changes. I feel as though in the nursing field, there are constantly changes in a patients... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the book it discusses that being a nurse does not only require a skill set, but to analyze situations. I believe it is important to always analyze situations, but having skills that you are able to perform is crucial in nursing. Without knowing how to perform certain tasks precisely, you are placing your patient at risk for harm. For example, skills such sterile dressing, changing wounds, and inserting a catheter are all very important. Without the knowledge and ability to do those skills effectively, it puts the patients at harm. While I do understand what the author is trying to say, I still believe technical skills are not a distraction. Putting information together is also very important, but I believe making sure your skills are performable is very critical. Also, I disagree that memorization is not needed in nursing. The nursing field requires memorization and also applying the information. But, if you can t remember a pathophysiology, how are you able to apply it to a patient? You must first memorize how the body functions, and then how it can have abnormalities. This is advantage to my patients, because it gives me a baseline. Once I understood what body function is not functioning correctly, I am then able to review the labs necessary. I do agree with the concept that the nurse has to think like a nurse. This is important because if you are oblivious to patient safety then you are increasing the chance of harm happening to patients. It is also important to be thoughtful of our position, in the relationship of patient and nurse. We are obligated by law to carry out our responsibilities effectively. Being mindful reduces the likelihood of medication errors, and also reduces the chance of infection. Additionally, I do agree that nursing requires teamwork. Their rationality is based on the fact that democracy empowers the masses that are able to use this power to fight back and prevent their government from abusing their human rights. Democracy also makes it easier for citizens to report instances of state repression to the international community, thus forcing abusive leaders to either stop the abuses or to renounce their power (Poe Tate, 1994, p. 855 866). In a semi democratic country like Russia, this empowerment of the masses has less strength to significantly prevent state repression, and sometimes the ability to shed light on abuses is difficult since mass media is practically controlled by the abusive government. Similarly, Davenport (1995) argues that democratic governments are less likely to use repression when dealing with mass demonstrations because their nature is to allow expressions of freedom by the citizenry, which they are aware always comes with a level of domestic disorder. This awareness decreases the use of violence against the citizens (p. 690 691). As Canada entered the war, the men of the households embarked for the front while the women were forced to undertake numerous responsibilities.
