Antisocial Persoanlity Disorder
Individuals with Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) are characterized as being deceitful,
egocentric, and having little regard for rules or the feelings of others (Duggan, 2009). Individuals with
ASPD have been found to be unable to correctly interpret emotional situations; they also experience
negative feelings more often than positive feelings. They are also more likely to experience anger than
fear, which can trigger violent behavior. Individuals with ASPD have a tendency to employ defense
mechanisms that can lead to charm and narcissism (Gawda, 2013). The combination of lack of
emotional insight with these psychopathic qualities can create a dangerous individual. It also makes
psychologists ambivalent about treating these individuals and it can make the treatment process for
even the most dedicated psychologist very challenging. As such, many of these individuals run into
trouble with law enforcement. Half of the population diagnosed with ASPD have arrest records and
half of all male inmates could be diagnosed with ASPD (Duggan, 2009). Duggan determined that 1
6% of the general male population can be diagnosed with ASPD and co morbidity with substance use
is high. He also determined that ASPD is a disorder that is not commonly studied properly; recent
reviews of studies performed on ASPD populations could only identify five experiments that met the
Cochrane criteria for an acceptable randomized controlled trial. Duggan examined whether or not

CHAPTER ONE
1.1 INTRODUCTION
1.0.1 Background of the study
To achieve rapid economic development, many countries resort to various activities to exploit natural
resources. One of such activities is mining which is an important economic activity with the potential
of contributing to the socio economic development of an area.
Although in South Africa, it is on a downward trend from its peak some decades ago (from 21%
contribution to GDP in 1970 to just 6% in 2011), the mining

John Locke s The Tragedy Of The Commons
Common pool resources denotes natural resources used by many individuals in common, such as
fisheries, groundwater basins, and irrigation systems. Such resources have long been subject to
overexploitation and misuse by individuals acting in their own best interests.
The state of our environment and the environmental problems that have evolved are considerably
different today to when John Locke wrote his influential essay Two treatises on Government (1680
1690). Humans are the freest, least genetically constrained species found. According to Locke s
natural right theory, the state of nature is the original condition of human beings in regard to any
common authority. Men were born free and equal: free to do what they wished without being required

With this Locke is of the opinion that properties do not have much value as a divine ordainment rather
he is of the view that labour adds the deserving value to the property which is regarded as the principle
of the first appropriation. The way we think about environmental concerns or when we deal with the
question of the common use of resources, the phrase The Tragedy of the Common s almost inevitably
props up. Our thinking is heavily influenced by Garrett Hardin s pivotal 1968 essay with the same
name The Tragedy of the Commons . In his essay, Hardin described the fate of a common pasture,
unowned and available to all. The tragedy of the commons lies in the anticipation that a resource will
be overused when it is part of a commons. As Hardin explained, in such a situation it is in each herder
s self interest to maximize his use of the commons at the expense of the community at large. Each
herder captures all of the benefit from adding one more animal to his herd. Yet the costs of
overgrazing the pasture are distributed among every user of the pasture. And when all of the herders
respond to these incentives, the pasture is overgrazed hence the tragedy. The tragedy is that people don
t look at the bigger picture; the over use of

Ecuador Research Paper
Ecuador is a small country on the Pacific coast of South America. It is bisected laterally by the
equator, and longitudinally by the Andes. The Andes divide the country s mainland into three distinct
regions, the coast to the west, the mountains, and the rainforest to the east. It is the Andes that this
paper is focused on, giving special attention to the mountain Cotopaxi.
The Andes run along the western side of South America, starting in Venezuela and continuing through
Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina, all the way to the southern tip of Chile. In Ecuador,
they are bound by the Pacific to the west, and the Amazon Basin to the east. They began to form in the

162), and the second highest peak in Ecuador. It is locates in the Northern Volcanic Zone of the Andes,
less than a degree south of the equator. It is almost perfectly conical, rising to a height of 5,897 meters
above sea level, and is covered with glaciers from about 4,500 meters up to the summit. The glaciers
cover a total area of 21 km2, as of 2004. At the summit, the crater is about 800 meters across, and
extends to a depth of 334 meters (Aguilera et al, 2004, p. 162). The primary rivers it drains water into
are the Rio Cutuchi to the south, the Rio Pita to the north, and the Rio Tamboto to the east (Aguilera et
al, 2004, p. 163). It is along these rivers than many towns are located. Along the Rio Cutuchi, the city
of Latacunga is a mere 43 km away from the volcano; while Sangolquí is located to the north, in the
Valle de los Chillos, about 40 km downstream along the Rio Pita from Cotopaxi (Aguilera et al, 2004,
p. 163). The capital of Ecuador, Quito, lies only about 50 km away to the northwest (Aguilera et al,
2004, p. 162).
The glaciers that give Cotopaxi its stunning appearance are one of the factors that make Cotopaxi so
dangerous. When the volcano has an eruption, the hot material issued from the crater melts portions of
the glaciers on the summit, inevitably triggering lahars. Cotopaxi is known for having syn eruptive
lahars. According to Aguilera et al, (2004),

False Facts About False Beliefs
Question 1: When something cannot be confirmed or is false, and is considered to be negative proof,
this is called The Socratic Method. False beliefs can be eliminated using this particular method. The
form of an argument is based on the purpose of a proposed hypothesis, then to see if the expected
implications materialize. If the hypothesis does not appear to materialize, it is considered wrong.
Therefore, if the hypothesis were true, the expected implications would not have followed.
A quote from Socrates states: If I could only find a man wiser than myself then I might go to the god
with a refutation in my hand. Socrates found that he was more knowledgeable then these men and
never did he presume to be more knowledgeable than he was. He recognized that he was more
knowledgeable but realized the point when he did not know something. The hypothesis would be for
him to find someone more knowledgeable than himself and when this did not materialize, the
hypothesis would have to be discarded.
Throughout various Socratic works, this theme is re occurring. As oppose to just satisfying ones
immediate desires, one must be virtuous. According to the will of the gods, life, which is well lived,
prosperous and long, is not necessarily a good life.
Simply he using this concept towards his prosecution manifests the Socratic Method into Plato s
dialogue, the Euthyphro. He used this concept towards ethical matters. It was first suggested
throughout the Euthyphro that

Interval Training
One of the fastest ways to lose body fat and get a ripped body is by incorporating interval training into
your workout routine. Interval training involves periods of high intensity effort followed by recovery
periods of less intense physical activity. The benefits of such training include: 1. You will be able to
achieve more in each individual workout. The amount of high intensity work you can do in a session
increases, as you get a chance to recover in between. 2. You will increase the amount of calories you
burn. Interval training uses mainly carbohydrate rather than fat for energy, but because of its higher
intensity level it burns more calories overall. 3. You challenge both your aerobic and anaerobic energy
systems. This provides your

Sostratus Lighthouse
The most outstanding was the creation of Sostratus from Cnidus (III century BC) a sea lighthouse on
the island of Pharos near Alexandria, which was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World (it
has not survived to our time). It is a three tier tower 120 m high: its base was square, the middle tier
had the shape of an octagon, and the upper tier was a round structure with statues that adorned it. At
the top of the lighthouse, equipped with metal mirrors, the fire was constantly maintained. The
lighthouse served as both an observation post and a fortress. The nature of the planning of Hellenistic
cities was distinguished by strict order. The straightforwardness of the sometimes wide streets, from

In order to protect the Hellenistic cities not only had powerful fortifications, but were sometimes
divided into quarters, with their own defensive walls. Sometimes for the safety of the rural population
cities were filled with an additional many kilometer ring of fortress walls. The acropolis was usually
located on the hills, providing the possibility of defense, as in Priene. The building materials were
used basically the same as in the classical era marble, limestone, wood, raw bricks, burned brick was
used more often. It is important to note that the engineering and construction essence of the structure
began to push aside the architectural and artistic image of the monument. The integrity and organic
content of the classical works were gradually lost, but the monuments began to influence more
emotionally and powerfully on greater number of people. Mostly, the order system was preserved, in
which, however, there was a tendency to mix different orders and their elements. The architecture of

Children In Colombia
We all know that children are the future of this world. Because of this, we have to put serious attention
into how we educate them and how we treat them. Many countries have programs that help children
with education and free meals at school so that children can focus exclusively on their studies.
However, such was not the case for Colombian children during the past 5 years. Many Colombian
children died during this time due to problems with malnutrition.
According to humanium.org In 2011 about 45% of the population of Colombia live in poverty. The
most affect victims of this situation are children. Many children end up living on the street homeless

Being About Our Father s Business
Being About Our Father s Business Jennifer Butler PT Summer 2014 Dean Lee August 16, 2014
When looking at the three dimensions of worship, our first instinct is to put them in order of priority
for ourselves. This is what I did. I remember a pastor saying once in a sermon that if your relationship
with God is right, then you, your relationships, and your service/ministries will fall in line. I truly
believe that. So, I believe that the most important of the three is Upward Worship. Our main purpose
in life is to give God all of our praises and all of our honor. It s not about me. It s about living in God
and for God. Colossians 1:16 says For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created
through him and for him. This means that we should be about our Father and not about ourselves. This
doesn t mean that on Sunday, we spend a couple of hours in church, it means that in everything we
think, say, or do we do to glorify and honor God. Some examples of Upward Worship would be
prayer, praise and thanksgiving, listen to his word in study and meditation. It is when we dedicate
ourselves to His will and His edification that we have the security of knowing that this upward form is
fulfilling. The Inward dimension of worship refers to our relationships with others. We are called to
serve, and serve with humility. When we are serving

Video Game Music Essay
The History of Video Game Music
In America, video game music is seen as one of the lowest forms of entertainment and its composers
are obscure and unknown to most of those who play the games, while in Japan, it is a major
component of their popular culture, and composers such as Koji
Kondo are treated like famed celebrities. Game music is still not widely considered an art form, and
yet the compositions have become as complex and sophisticated as arrangements for film and
television.
In 1958, engineer William Higginbotham at the National Laboratory made the very first video game
called Tennis for Two. In 1963, MIT student Steve Russell programmed the game Spacewar. In 1972,
Magnavox released the very first home ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

5200 home console2, the Pokey chip used four separate channels which controlled the pitch, volume,
and distortion values of each, allowing a four piece virtual band to perform for the first time. In 1983
the advent of MIDI
(Musical Instrument Digital Interface) allowed for composers to use up to 128 different timbres with
16 separate tracks, all without taking up precious memory space. Composer
Bobby Prince of the Id software company employed midi files in the popular Commander
Keen series. (Episodes four through six) The only problem with MIDI is that the quality of the music
varies with different sound cards. 2
In 1985, Nintendo released their first console, the Nintendo Entertainment
System. (NES). Although manufacturing was discontinued in 1995, Nintendo experienced enormous
popularity; 50 million consoles and 350 million games were sold. 2 Nintendo was talented at offering
difficult challenges for one s hand eye coordination, providing quality soundtracks, fast game play,
and a fun and exciting plotline that makes you want to play the game again and again. 2 An example
of such music is Battletoads. It s all about some toads that like to get into fights, and there are two

How Did The American Revolution Change The Nation
Change in the Nation The American Revolution transformed the colonies in numerous ways. The
Revolution caused a decline in paid domestic services. Wage workers became indentured servants and
were able to perform their required labor. Servants and apprentices were able to escape from their
masters. By 1800, indentured servitude had vanished from the nation. The Revolution was able to
create a separation between slavery and freedom. John Adams wished that every individual of society
could obtain land so the nation could avoid unequal or fixed social classes. Americans believed in
equal opportunity. Jefferson assumed if the nation was lacking economic resources it also lacked
freedom. He preferred a limited state. He passed laws that prohibited

Essay On Social Classes In The Roman Empire
Research paper essay
Citizens in the Roman Empire separated from the wealth, house, and classes they are in. This kind of
social structure was continued in a Rome empire for a long time especially for the slavery. Roman
social structure affects the world today because there are still slaves and social classes. They are not
exactly the same, but it replaces other kinds of social structure. This kind of social structure is kept
continuing today. By comparing social classes in Rome such as patrician, plebeian, and slaves to the
social classes today which are capitalist, middle class, and slavery, people are still held by the social
structure today.

The Art of Quoting
Chapter 3 in They Say/ I Say is all about quoting. Graff and Birkenstein, not only explain to readers

The authors insist that, in order to successfully compose an effective argument, the writer needs to

creditability, while at the same time makes sure your writing remains fair and accurate.

In the book Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison and the play Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller the two
writers use various symbols to develop the American Literature Theme of The Journey. Two important
symbols Ellison uses in Invisible Man are dreams and the narrator s briefcase. Two important symbols
in Death of a Salesman are diamonds and the car. Ellison and Miller use these symbols to take their
characters through their life s journey, whether physical or metaphorical. The portentous dream the
narrator has in the beginning of Invisible Man foreshadows his whole journey throughout the book. In

new identity on it that was given to him by the Brotherhood, Clifton s doll, the anonymous letter from

What if Army bombers could take off an aircraft carrier? Low tried his idea on Admiral King. King
thought the idea had potential so he sent it on to Captain Donald Duncan to turn his plan into fact.
This he did, and the Tokyo Raid became fact instead of fiction.
The first step in the plan was finding a leader. General Arnold requested Lieutenant Colonel James
Dolittle as the man to select the plane and the men for the mission. Dolittle accepted the challenge
without hesitation. Arnold let him know in no uncertain terms that he was to be a planner not a pilot.
As Doolittle went to work on the project, he saw a lot of problems. First of all, carrier landings were
impossible for twin engine bombers. Next, the total air trip was eleven hundred miles. The closest
landing area would be in Russia, but Joseph Stalin would not let them land there because he didn t
want to be invaded by Japan since he already had his hands full with the Germans. Fortunately, China
said it was all right to land there but they said it reluctantly. With these considerations and others,
Doolittle determined that the chances of the mission succeeding was fifty fifty. Despite the odds, the
decision was made to begin the project.
As the first step, despite Arnold, Doolittle wrote himself into the plan as a pathfinder. Doolittle s job
during the attack would be to light up Tokyo with incendiary

Here at Virgin Atlantic, we identify and meet customer needs through customer survey questionnaires/
comment cards and customer forums/focus groups.
When the survey questionnaires or comment cards have been read by a member for our staff, usually
the customer service manager, they then analyse all of the comments to find areas of improvement in
order to meet customer needs.
For example, if a number of customers have complained about staff not knowing obvious information
i.e. directions around the airport, prices of products or check in times, that would tell us that our staff
are unequipped to help our customers.
From this, we will then need to realise and work our a way to get more information into our staff in
order to meet the needs of our customers more efficiently.
This can be done in many ways, however the most ideal one for this situation would be to hold regular
morning/afternoon meetings to keep staff updated with information.
When we exceed customer expectations, we like to go that extra mile by giving out customers more in
depth information. An example of this would be when a customer asks simply the time of their flight,
we like to make sure that our staff will fully inform our customers of their flight time, boarding time,
gate number and if there will be any delays.

complications that extend beyond the financial facet. Snowpiercer, a South Korean movie directed by
Joon ho Bong, demonstrates an exaggerated division of social class within a futuristic world
characterized by a post environmental melt down. This division amongst the passengers of a train,
which carries the only remaining life on Earth, shows the extreme circumstances that can follow a
divided community. Many of these issues are widespread and ... Show more content on

These living conditions can be paralleled to modern day society. For example, there are those who live
in run down houses within the inner city as well as those living in mansions alongside rivers and lakes.
This distribution of wealth, while sometimes seemingly fair, is fundamentally wrong and aids in
further separating the mentalities of those on opposite sides of the financial spectrum. One key
difference between the tail end and front passengers is the diet that has carried them through eighteen
years on the train. While passengers in the back have been forced to survive off protein bars made
from ground up crickets, the front end passengers have feasted on foods that are thought to be extinct.
In one scene of the movie, Curtis, a strong willed leader who remembers life before the freeze, throws
a gelatin bar to one of the upper class prisoners insisting that she experience one of the many
hardships that he has had to persevere through.
This act of retaliation is meant to give the front cart prisoner the insight to see the difference between
surviving and living. This drastic separation of lifestyle leads to social issues that can polarize nations,
allowing for every man to fend only for himself.
Throughout several scenes of Snowpiercer, it is apparent that white supremacy influences the leaders
decisions and sense of urgency. The issue

Stakeholder for Staples
Introduction Stakeholders are individuals and constituencies that contribute, either voluntarily or
involuntarily, to its wealth creating capacity and activities, and who are therefore its potential
beneficiaries and/or risk bearers1. There are several different types of stakeholders associated with a
corporation, and those stakeholders can have different views and opinions on what corporation s goals
should be and how they should be running. I have interviewed three different stakeholders of Staples
Inc., an employee, a customer and a stock holder, to find their relationship between them and the firm.
Then, I will use this information to suggest how the firm should proceed and continue to have a better
and more beneficial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another question was whether or not they thought that the Staples Soul program was a good idea or
not. Again the customer and the employee had agreed that it was a good idea, but it was not important
to them. In fact Ms. Lam had stated that I don t really mind. Although I think that they should work on
their customer relations a little more. Mr. Esteves, the stockholder, found this program important due
to the fact that since it was instituted the stocks of Staples Inc. have been going up. Although all three
agree it is not a bad idea, Ms. Lam and Mr. Forgione do not find this type of program important to
them at all. The fact that they do not find this program of no importance is because it has absolutely no
affect on the customer or the employee stakeholders. The benefits of this program do not directly
impact a majority of its employees or its customers. It appears that the relationship between Staples
and its employee and customer stakeholders is a straight give take relationship, through the
perspective of the stakeholders. Ms. Lam, in answering about what type of relationship she had with
Staples said, I need supplies, they need money. They take my money, I take their supplies. While Mr.
Forgione stated, The only thing Staples has done for me is provide me with a paycheck every week
and some benefits. Next, I asked all three stakeholders to order which

Frederick Research
March 16, 2014 English 104 Frederick Douglass Article Analysis
In the reading by Frederick Douglass, Learning to Read, he talks about how he learned how to read.
He grew up in Maryland and he talks about how his mistress, his slave owners wife, taught him the
alphabet and how to read. Eventually she stopped, due to him being a slave he wasn t suppose to know
how to read, and Douglass had to continue to learn how to read by himself. One thing Frederick
Douglass could have done was to put some details about his family. He never mentioned his mom,
dad, siblings or if he had any. If he did it would have interesting to know what they did or felt about
him learning to read and write. It would have also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How did he get away with gathering the books and finding the time to copy the words? Douglass
could have used some details in describing the scene when he was able to find the time to do such
things and how often was he able to do these things? These are just some thoughts that aroused in my
head while reading this article. The overall article was well written but if Frederick Douglass would
have incorporated some details about his family, like their whereabouts and their feeling or if they
were being taught how to read as well, would have made the article a little more interesting. Also if
Frederick Douglass would have added more details to his story in certain areas would have made the
article fuller and gave the readers a more vivid picture of how he was being taught how to read and
when he found the time to sneak books and copy the words to learn how to write. These are just a
couple things that could have made the article easier to read and understand because when someone is
writing a paper the author needs to make sure that the audience can understand what the message is
clearly and be able to create an image of what is being said.

Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address Summary
In Abraham Lincoln s second inaugural address, he begins voicing that there is no need for him to
have such an extended address just as he did the first time. Before his four years in office, there was
that necessary detail of what he felt must be pursued, but now he feels as though there is still yet to be
pursued as he had wished before. The public knows as much as himself when it comes to the
progression of the military, and he believes is satisfactory with entailing of high hopes for the future.
He proceeds to express that he had made his first address with the anxious view of civil war.
Americans wanted to avoid the war as much as possible but while his address was on saving the union
without conflict there were those who were planning to destroy it. Both political party s views
disapproved war, but one party would risk a nation to avoid war whereas the other party would not. ...

Neither party expected the war to be as it is but God says, Woe unto the world because of offenses; for
it must needs be that offenses come, but woe to that man by whom the offense cometh. And if slavery
is an offense of the world, then civil war is an offense that should have been wooed by both the North
and the South and it is an offense that originated from the offense of slavery. Yes, Americans shall
hope and pray for the war to pass by speedily, but if it does not and it prolongs until we can bear it no
longer than so be it. God is righteous, just, and his judgments are

Evil Dead Reflection
One Friday, September 29, 2017, I visited the City Theatre (inside Hockeytown Café) to watch Evil
Dead: The Musical written by George Reinblatt and presented by Olympia Entertainment and Sweat
Equity Studio. When I first arrived, I was greeted by the Usher who gave me a program. In the
Program, there is a bolded section with the name and title of those that made the production possible.
The director for this play was Jamie Warron, and the music director was Timothy Martuch. In the
second and third page of the program is a section called Who s Who , which serves the purpose giving
a brief description of the crew involved and their titles. In class we looked at some of the job duties for
those involved in a play, and this can relate to that description of each job and individual. Evil Dead is
about four college students who go on a trip for spring break to an abandoned cabin in the woods.
There they find a book that helps them release some sort of evil spirit. Each of them start to get
attacked by this evil spirit and killing one by one. In the performance that I witnessed, the story was
told in a comedic way compared to the Evil Dead film, which is more of a scarier and serious form of
the story. To me, the play seemed to have two themes, perseverance and good versus evil.
Perseverance to survive from the evil being who wanted to kill all of them. One of the characters cut
his arm off in order to not allow the evil spirit to take control over him. To me, the purpose of the

Reconstruction Failed For African Americans
Reconstruction failed for African Americans. By the 1890 s all optimism that came as a result of the
Constitutional rights guaranteed to them by the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments was gone. Their
reality, particularly for those in the South, was one of lynchings, Jim Crowe laws, and voting
restrictions. They faced discrimination, segregation, limited educational opportunities, and a tenant
farming system that only slightly differed from slavery. In the early twentieth century, visionaries such
as Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. DuBois, and Marcus Garvey recognized the urgent need for change.
These great leaders were in agreement that action was required to uplift the African American race.
However, their philosophies on how to approach it were vastly different. Born a slave on a Virginia
farm, Booker Taliaferro Washington (1856 1915) rose to become one of the most influential African
American intellectuals of the late 19th century. He was nine years old when the Civil War ended. He
worked hard as a young child and at 16, he left home to attend Hampton Institute. One of the few
black high schools in the South, it focused on industrial and agricultural training while maintaining an
extremely structured curriculum that stressed discipline and high moral character. Washington thrived
in that environment. He eventually went on to head a new school in Tuskegee, Alabama. The
Tuskegee Institute was devoted to the training of black teachers, farmers, and skilled workers. Under

A Disconnect From Ideologies Opposite From Ones Own
Mario Serna
Intro
A disconnect from ideologies opposite from ones own, appears to be the obvious and simple response.
Opposite architectural theoretical ideas such as solid vs void, ideas vs talent, program vs paradigm,
object vs context, literal vs phenomenal transparency, amongst others are discussed and analyzed in
many of Colin Rowe s writings. Rowe, a British born, architectural historian, critic, theoretician,
teacher and a major intellectual influence on world architecture and urbanism believes in a synthesis
rather than neglecting either of the ideas (Wikipedia) . An architect who seems to embody this
principle of synthesizing ideas is Rem Koolhaus/OMA. His project, Seoul National University

Circulation and Program
The educational components (auditorium and lecture hall) are placed on the sloping surface enhancing
its purpose (seating), the exhibition space, placed on the top flat slab, is given greater flexibility, and
the library, located centrically in its design, becomes a connector of programs. The connection
(circulation) of these programs start to arise as two different circulation loops are conceived, exterior
loop (purple) and interior loop (yellow) (figure 3). The exterior loop starts from the path connection
(road) and spirals up through all the programs. The interior loop, placed inside the main tower and
library, serves a more direct route trough the building. Ingeniously through its combine sloped and flat
slab, the programs have the ability to permeate one another. The exhibition lingers into the auditorium
and lecture hall or vice versa when required by its changes in occupation , obtaining easy and smooth
transitions.
Structure
Most of the building is cantilevered, creating structural challenges. The resolution included a
structural concrete core (yellow) and steel slabs reinforced with steel diagonals, that add to its visual
distinction (Figure 4). The steel structure is revealed through the addition of semi opaque glass in

Gender Deviance In Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong
Does deviating from one s gender norms inevitably doom one down a spiral of moral corruption? Tim
O Brien, author of Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong and Ernest Hemingway, author of The Short
Happy Life of Francis Macomber , certainly seem to hold this view, as evident by the fates of the
major female characters in their respective works. The deviance of the major female characters in both
works appears to corrupt not only themselves, but also pollute their partners, causing them to suffer
injury or harm as a result. The degree of injury ranges from negligible, like Fossie s demotion and
broken heart, to fatal, like the bullet that rips through Macomber s skull. It begs the question, are these
stories meant to serve as cautionary tales for their female readers, or possibly for their husbands, so
they may recognize gender deviance and stop it in its tracks before their wives transform into Margot
Macomber or Mary Anne Bell? This essay will analyze what such characters say about pervading
views of women, both in society and in literature.
At the end of Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong , Mark Fossie gazes upon his previously demure and
sweet girlfriend as a demon, surrounded by carnage, a necklace of shriveled human tongues around
her neck as she stands barefoot in the hootch of the Green Berets. The male reader is meant to resonate
with Mark s horror and be terrified of Mary Anne s feral transformation. The pure, sweet, socially
conforming to be wife has been corrupted by

  • 2. Antisocial Persoanlity Disorder Individuals with Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) are characterized as being deceitful, egocentric, and having little regard for rules or the feelings of others (Duggan, 2009). Individuals with ASPD have been found to be unable to correctly interpret emotional situations; they also experience negative feelings more often than positive feelings. They are also more likely to experience anger than fear, which can trigger violent behavior. Individuals with ASPD have a tendency to employ defense mechanisms that can lead to charm and narcissism (Gawda, 2013). The combination of lack of emotional insight with these psychopathic qualities can create a dangerous individual. It also makes psychologists ambivalent about treating these individuals and it can make the treatment process for even the most dedicated psychologist very challenging. As such, many of these individuals run into trouble with law enforcement. Half of the population diagnosed with ASPD have arrest records and half of all male inmates could be diagnosed with ASPD (Duggan, 2009). Duggan determined that 1 6% of the general male population can be diagnosed with ASPD and co morbidity with substance use is high. He also determined that ASPD is a disorder that is not commonly studied properly; recent reviews of studies performed on ASPD populations could only identify five experiments that met the Cochrane criteria for an acceptable randomized controlled trial. Duggan examined whether or not preventive measures ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

CHAPTER ONE 1.1 INTRODUCTION 1.0.1 Background of the study To achieve rapid economic development, many countries resort to various activities to exploit natural resources. One of such activities is mining which is an important economic activity with the potential of contributing to the socio economic development of an area. Although in South Africa, it is on a downward trend from its peak some decades ago (from 21% contribution to GDP in 1970 to just 6% in 2011), the mining ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. John Locke s The Tragedy Of The Commons Common pool resources denotes natural resources used by many individuals in common, such as fisheries, groundwater basins, and irrigation systems. Such resources have long been subject to overexploitation and misuse by individuals acting in their own best interests. The state of our environment and the environmental problems that have evolved are considerably different today to when John Locke wrote his influential essay Two treatises on Government (1680 1690). Humans are the freest, least genetically constrained species found. According to Locke s natural right theory, the state of nature is the original condition of human beings in regard to any common authority. Men were born free and equal: free to do what they wished without being required ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this Locke is of the opinion that properties do not have much value as a divine ordainment rather he is of the view that labour adds the deserving value to the property which is regarded as the principle of the first appropriation. The way we think about environmental concerns or when we deal with the question of the common use of resources, the phrase The Tragedy of the Common s almost inevitably props up. Our thinking is heavily influenced by Garrett Hardin s pivotal 1968 essay with the same name The Tragedy of the Commons . In his essay, Hardin described the fate of a common pasture, unowned and available to all. The tragedy of the commons lies in the anticipation that a resource will be overused when it is part of a commons. As Hardin explained, in such a situation it is in each herder s self interest to maximize his use of the commons at the expense of the community at large. Each herder captures all of the benefit from adding one more animal to his herd. Yet the costs of overgrazing the pasture are distributed among every user of the pasture. And when all of the herders respond to these incentives, the pasture is overgrazed hence the tragedy. The tragedy is that people don t look at the bigger picture; the over use of ... • 5. Ecuador Research Paper Ecuador is a small country on the Pacific coast of South America. It is bisected laterally by the equator, and longitudinally by the Andes. The Andes divide the country s mainland into three distinct regions, the coast to the west, the mountains, and the rainforest to the east. It is the Andes that this paper is focused on, giving special attention to the mountain Cotopaxi. The Andes run along the western side of South America, starting in Venezuela and continuing through Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina, all the way to the southern tip of Chile. In Ecuador, they are bound by the Pacific to the west, and the Amazon Basin to the east. They began to form in the Cretaceous Period, although it was not until the about fifteen ... It is almost perfectly conical, rising to a height of 5,897 meters above sea level, and is covered with glaciers from about 4,500 meters up to the summit. The glaciers cover a total area of 21 km2, as of 2004. At the summit, the crater is about 800 meters across, and extends to a depth of 334 meters (Aguilera et al, 2004, p. 162). The primary rivers it drains water into are the Rio Cutuchi to the south, the Rio Pita to the north, and the Rio Tamboto to the east (Aguilera et al, 2004, p. 163). It is along these rivers than many towns are located. Along the Rio Cutuchi, the city of Latacunga is a mere 43 km away from the volcano; while Sangolquí is located to the north, in the Valle de los Chillos, about 40 km downstream along the Rio Pita from Cotopaxi (Aguilera et al, 2004, p. 163). The capital of Ecuador, Quito, lies only about 50 km away to the northwest (Aguilera et al, 2004, p. 162). The glaciers that give Cotopaxi its stunning appearance are one of the factors that make Cotopaxi so dangerous. When the volcano has an eruption, the hot material issued from the crater melts portions of the glaciers on the summit, inevitably triggering lahars. Cotopaxi is known for having syn eruptive lahars. • 6. False Facts About False Beliefs Question 1: When something cannot be confirmed or is false, and is considered to be negative proof, this is called The Socratic Method. False beliefs can be eliminated using this particular method. The form of an argument is based on the purpose of a proposed hypothesis, then to see if the expected implications materialize. If the hypothesis does not appear to materialize, it is considered wrong. Therefore, if the hypothesis were true, the expected implications would not have followed. A quote from Socrates states: If I could only find a man wiser than myself then I might go to the god with a refutation in my hand. Socrates found that he was more knowledgeable then these men and never did he presume to be more knowledgeable than he was. He recognized that he was more knowledgeable but realized the point when he did not know something. The hypothesis would be for him to find someone more knowledgeable than himself and when this did not materialize, the hypothesis would have to be discarded. Throughout various Socratic works, this theme is re occurring. As oppose to just satisfying ones immediate desires, one must be virtuous. According to the will of the gods, life, which is well lived, prosperous and long, is not necessarily a good life. Simply he using this concept towards his prosecution manifests the Socratic Method into Plato s dialogue, the Euthyphro. He used this concept towards ethical matters. It was first suggested throughout the Euthyphro that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a three tier tower 120 m high: its base was square, the middle tier had the shape of an octagon, and the upper tier was a round structure with statues that adorned it. At the top of the lighthouse, equipped with metal mirrors, the fire was constantly maintained. The lighthouse served as both an observation post and a fortress. • 11. Being About Our Father s Business Being About Our Father s Business Jennifer Butler PT Summer 2014 Dean Lee August 16, 2014 When looking at the three dimensions of worship, our first instinct is to put them in order of priority for ourselves. This is what I did. I remember a pastor saying once in a sermon that if your relationship with God is right, then you, your relationships, and your service/ministries will fall in line. I truly believe that. So, I believe that the most important of the three is Upward Worship. Our main purpose in life is to give God all of our praises and all of our honor. It s not about me. It s about living in God and for God. Colossians 1:16 says For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. This means that we should be about our Father and not about ourselves. This doesn t mean that on Sunday, we spend a couple of hours in church, it means that in everything we think, say, or do we do to glorify and honor God. Some examples of Upward Worship would be prayer, praise and thanksgiving, listen to his word in study and meditation. It is when we dedicate ourselves to His will and His edification that we have the security of knowing that this upward form is fulfilling. The Inward dimension of worship refers to our relationships with others. We are called to serve, and serve with humility. When we are serving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Video Game Music Essay The History of Video Game Music In America, video game music is seen as one of the lowest forms of entertainment and its composers are obscure and unknown to most of those who play the games, while in Japan, it is a major component of their popular culture, and composers such as Koji Kondo are treated like famed celebrities. Game music is still not widely considered an art form, and yet the compositions have become as complex and sophisticated as arrangements for film and television. In 1958, engineer William Higginbotham at the National Laboratory made the very first video game called Tennis for Two. In 1963, MIT student Steve Russell programmed the game Spacewar. In 1983 the advent of MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) allowed for composers to use up to 128 different timbres with 16 separate tracks, all without taking up precious memory space. Composer Bobby Prince of the Id software company employed midi files in the popular Commander Keen series. (Episodes four through six) The only problem with MIDI is that the quality of the music varies with different sound cards. 2 In 1985, Nintendo released their first console, the Nintendo Entertainment System. This kind of social structure was continued in a Rome empire for a long time especially for the slavery. Roman social structure affects the world today because there are still slaves and social classes. They are not exactly the same, but it replaces other kinds of social structure. This kind of social structure is kept continuing today. By comparing social classes in Rome such as patrician, plebeian, and slaves to the social classes today which are capitalist, middle class, and slavery, people are still held by the social structure today. Graff and Birkenstein, not only explain to readers the correct and incorrect way to quote a text, but also why it s important to use quotes the right way. The authors insist that, in order to successfully compose an effective argument, the writer needs to incorporate what others have previously said into their own text. By doing so, it enhances your creditability, while at the same time makes sure your writing remains fair and accurate. In the book Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison and the play Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller the two writers use various symbols to develop the American Literature Theme of The Journey. In both cases, these wars are broken down into two basic elements, the battles that are fought and the individuals who fight them. The elements conflict, courage, fear, cowardice, heroism, victory, and defeat make up the exploits of war we record in our history books. This paper will deal with war, more specifically, a special exploit within one of the most significant wars ever experienced. World War II involved millions of fighting men around the world. What if Army bombers could take off an aircraft carrier? Low tried his idea on Admiral King. King thought the idea had potential so he sent it on to Captain Donald Duncan to turn his plan into fact. This he did, and the Tokyo Raid became fact instead of fiction. The first step in the plan was finding a leader. General Arnold requested Lieutenant Colonel James Dolittle as the man to select the plane and the men for the mission. Dolittle accepted the challenge without hesitation. Arnold let him know in no uncertain terms that he was to be a planner not a pilot. As Doolittle went to work on the project, he saw a lot of problems. First of all, carrier landings were impossible for twin engine bombers. Next, the total air trip was eleven hundred miles. The closest landing area would be in Russia, but Joseph Stalin would not let them land there because he didn t want to be invaded by Japan since he already had his hands full with the Germans. Fortunately, China said it was all right to land there but they said it reluctantly. With these considerations and others, Doolittle determined that the chances of the mission succeeding was fifty fifty. Despite the odds, the decision was made to begin the project. As the first step, despite Arnold, Doolittle wrote himself into the plan as a pathfinder. Doolittle s job during the attack would be to light up Tokyo with incendiary ... Here at Virgin Atlantic, we identify and meet customer needs through customer survey questionnaires/ comment cards and customer forums/focus groups. When the survey questionnaires or comment cards have been read by a member for our staff, usually the customer service manager, they then analyse all of the comments to find areas of improvement in order to meet customer needs. For example, if a number of customers have complained about staff not knowing obvious information i.e. directions around the airport, prices of products or check in times, that would tell us that our staff are unequipped to help our customers. From this, we will then need to realise and work our a way to get more information into our staff in order to meet the needs of our customers more efficiently. This can be done in many ways, however the most ideal one for this situation would be to hold regular morning/afternoon meetings to keep staff updated with information. When we exceed customer expectations, we like to go that extra mile by giving out customers more in depth information. An example of this would be when a customer asks simply the time of their flight, we like to make sure that our staff will fully inform our customers of their flight time, boarding time, gate number and if there will be any delays. The, A South Korean Film Directed By Joon Ho Bong While the world is debatably the most prosperous it has ever been; due to the high number of people who are able to enjoy the many prosperities, most of the population can be viewed as the lower class. This unfortunate fact stems from the unequal distribution of wealth and furthermore, leads to complications that extend beyond the financial facet. Snowpiercer, a South Korean movie directed by Joon ho Bong, demonstrates an exaggerated division of social class within a futuristic world characterized by a post environmental melt down. This division amongst the passengers of a train, which carries the only remaining life on Earth, shows the extreme circumstances that can follow a divided community. Many of these issues are widespread and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These living conditions can be paralleled to modern day society. For example, there are those who live in run down houses within the inner city as well as those living in mansions alongside rivers and lakes. This distribution of wealth, while sometimes seemingly fair, is fundamentally wrong and aids in further separating the mentalities of those on opposite sides of the financial spectrum. One key difference between the tail end and front passengers is the diet that has carried them through eighteen years on the train. While passengers in the back have been forced to survive off protein bars made from ground up crickets, the front end passengers have feasted on foods that are thought to be extinct. In one scene of the movie, Curtis, a strong willed leader who remembers life before the freeze, throws a gelatin bar to one of the upper class prisoners insisting that she experience one of the many hardships that he has had to persevere through. This act of retaliation is meant to give the front cart prisoner the insight to see the difference between surviving and living. This drastic separation of lifestyle leads to social issues that can polarize nations, allowing for every man to fend only for himself. Mr. Esteves, the stockholder, found this program important due to the fact that since it was instituted the stocks of Staples Inc. have been going up. The overall article was well written but if Frederick Douglass would have incorporated some details about his family, like their whereabouts and their feeling or if they were being taught how to read as well, would have made the article a little more interesting. Also if Frederick Douglass would have added more details to his story in certain areas would have made the article fuller and gave the readers a more vivid picture of how he was being taught how to read and when he found the time to sneak books and copy the words to learn how to write. These are just a couple things that could have made the article easier to read and understand because when someone is writing a paper the author needs to make sure that the audience can understand what the message is clearly and be able to create an image of what is being said. Evil Dead Reflection One Friday, September 29, 2017, I visited the City Theatre (inside Hockeytown Café) to watch Evil Dead: The Musical written by George Reinblatt and presented by Olympia Entertainment and Sweat Equity Studio. When I first arrived, I was greeted by the Usher who gave me a program. In the Program, there is a bolded section with the name and title of those that made the production possible. The director for this play was Jamie Warron, and the music director was Timothy Martuch. In the second and third page of the program is a section called Who s Who , which serves the purpose giving a brief description of the crew involved and their titles. In class we looked at some of the job duties for those involved in a play, and this can relate to that description of each job and individual. Evil Dead is about four college students who go on a trip for spring break to an abandoned cabin in the woods. There they find a book that helps them release some sort of evil spirit. Each of them start to get attacked by this evil spirit and killing one by one. In the performance that I witnessed, the story was told in a comedic way compared to the Evil Dead film, which is more of a scarier and serious form of the story. To me, the play seemed to have two themes, perseverance and good versus evil. Perseverance to survive from the evil being who wanted to kill all of them. One of the characters cut his arm off in order to not allow the evil spirit to take control over him. To me, the purpose of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By the 1890 s all optimism that came as a result of the Constitutional rights guaranteed to them by the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments was gone. Their reality, particularly for those in the South, was one of lynchings, Jim Crowe laws, and voting restrictions. They faced discrimination, segregation, limited educational opportunities, and a tenant farming system that only slightly differed from slavery. In the early twentieth century, visionaries such as Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. DuBois, and Marcus Garvey recognized the urgent need for change. These great leaders were in agreement that action was required to uplift the African American race. However, their philosophies on how to approach it were vastly different. Born a slave on a Virginia farm, Booker Taliaferro Washington (1856 1915) rose to become one of the most influential African American intellectuals of the late 19th century. He was nine years old when the Civil War ended. He worked hard as a young child and at 16, he left home to attend Hampton Institute. One of the few black high schools in the South, it focused on industrial and agricultural training while maintaining an extremely structured curriculum that stressed discipline and high moral character. Washington thrived in that environment. He eventually went on to head a new school in Tuskegee, Alabama. • 32. Gender Deviance In Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong Does deviating from one s gender norms inevitably doom one down a spiral of moral corruption? Tim O Brien, author of Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong and Ernest Hemingway, author of The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber , certainly seem to hold this view, as evident by the fates of the major female characters in their respective works. The deviance of the major female characters in both works appears to corrupt not only themselves, but also pollute their partners, causing them to suffer injury or harm as a result. The degree of injury ranges from negligible, like Fossie s demotion and broken heart, to fatal, like the bullet that rips through Macomber s skull. It begs the question, are these stories meant to serve as cautionary tales for their female readers, or possibly for their husbands, so they may recognize gender deviance and stop it in its tracks before their wives transform into Margot Macomber or Mary Anne Bell? This essay will analyze what such characters say about pervading views of women, both in society and in literature. At the end of Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong , Mark Fossie gazes upon his previously demure and sweet girlfriend as a demon, surrounded by carnage, a necklace of shriveled human tongues around her neck as she stands barefoot in the hootch of the Green Berets.
