Prohibition And Its Effects On The United States
When personal choice is withdrawn from individuals and prohibition is implemented to control natural human
behavior, the hypocrisy that many preach the United States as being a free society and a nation of tolerance seems to
deteriorate when politicians see any opportunity to capitalize on the masses without regard. Yet even after alcohol
prohibition and fighting an endless war on drugs, history still repeats itself over and over again while the taxpayer is
left with the bill. Responsible and recreational drug users feed the black market without any other option due to
prohibition. And with an unlimited and unregulated supply from cartels to satisfy the consumer, there is no question
why Al Capone came to light at the end of alcohol ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even today, manslaughter may give you less time behind bars than being convicted in the drug trade. And with
Congress in 1986 implementing a five year minimum for anyone found with an equivalent of a few sugar packets
worth of crack cocaine (Pupovac), there was little to no remorse for any drug use at the time including marijuana.
Additionally when looking at the case of Alva Mae Granny Groves in 1994, a 72 year old woman who was convicted
of conspiring to trade crack cocaine for food stamps. The punishment was nothing short of harsh. She had no prior
criminal background yet was sentenced to 24 years due to the sentencing system at that time. She wrote the following
in a letter before she died while incarcerated; The only money I received came from SSI (Supplementary Security
Income) and what money I could earn selling eggs from my laying hens (I had about 100 chickens), I also cleaned
houses when I was able, and sold candy bars and soft drinks to the kids coming from school in the afternoons. She
also requested a pardon at the end of her life in order to die closer to her family, but due to the unethical laws at the
time she was denied (Pupovac). Next when looking at other sentencing systems around the world, the United States
is ranked the highest in marijuana arrests exponentially. In 2014 alone, there were over 700,000 marijuana related
arrests in the United States yet

The Shining By Stephen King
The Shining, a novel written by Stephen King followed by a film directed by Stanley Kubrick in 1980 is a
horror/thriller narrative filled with many mysteries of its own. Initially, The Shining portrays itself as an average The
house is haunted but no one believes me story. However, as the plot progresses we learn that there is much more that
goes into the big picture. At its core, the narrative is about isolation, psychological problems, alcoholism, and the
suspense of an impending doom.
Jack, played by Jack Nicholson, is an average middle class man who takes on an opportunity to become an off season
caretaker at a large, isolated resort known as the Overlook Hotel. Along with him he brings his wife, Wendy and his
five year old son, Danny, to spend the winter alone at the Hotel. Regardless of his wife s cold feet about relocating to
such an isolated area during a violent season, Jack, being the decision maker of the family, sticks to his guns. As a
struggling writer, Jack believes this job to be the perfect opportunity to take to his writing in a peaceful, serene
setting where seemingly nothing can get in his way.
We quickly learn that the Overlook Hotel, as large and luxurious as it is, is not as comforting, relaxing, or even as
welcoming as we are initially led to believe. In fact, it almost immediately exudes negative energy, with a violent and
savage undertone from the very beginning when the family moves in. Most affected by this, is the son of the family,

was a worldwide disease that is thought to have originated from america, the spanish flu has always been about but
the second wave was spread by European soldiers and was much more deadly and vicious infecting the world

Emergency Contraceptive Pills ( Ecps )
Emergency Contraceptive Pills (ECPs) is a widely controversial debate between medical officials, teachers, parents,
and teens. Most parents do not want to think about their teenage daughters engaging in sexual activities; yet, at some
point, it is more than likely going to happen. The CDC reports showed in 2013 there were over 270,000 babies born
to adolescents between the ages of 15 19 years old (1). This figure may seem high but has declined over the last two
decades and reduced by 10% during 2012 to 2013 (1). There are several methods of birth control to inhibit pregnancy
and the spread of sexual transmitted infections (STI.) One form that aids in preventing pregnancy is commonly
known as the morning after plan or Plan B. For females over the age of 15, the FDA has approved teens to buy the
pills without a doctor s prescription (1). Purchases can be made at various local pharmacy stores. The pills are taken
immediately after having unprotected sex, or after a woman believes, she may become pregnant from sexual
intercourse. Dr. Abell express the hormones progestin and estrogen are the same hormones used in birth control pills
(341). The pills work by either obstructing or delaying the natural pregnancy process, but is not an abortion because a
woman is not yet pregnant. If a woman takes the pill and she is already pregnant there has been no evidence to prove
the fertilized egg will be harmed (Abell 341). To have the most effect the pills should be taken within

Nanocrystalline Materials Essay
Introduction To explain nanocrystalline materials, it should have been explained that nano concept at first.
Nanostructures are relatively new and interesting subject to investigate, they are in a scale which is between 0 100
nanometers (1 nanometer, nm is equal to 10 9 meter). There are some types of nanostructured materials such as
lamellar (1 dimensional), filamentary (2 dimensional) and crystallites (3 dimensional). If grains of the material are
made up of crystals, then nanocrystalline materials term is what they are called. In this case, nanocrystalline
materials have grains which are the size of 100 nm typically. An example of nanocrystalline material of SnO2 is
imaged with STM as seen in Fig. 1 [1] and SEM image of nanocrystalline diamond thin films as seen in Fig. 2. [2]
Fig. 1. STM image of nanocrystalline SnO2 [1] Fig. 2. SEM image of nanocrystalline diamond thin films. [2] In
nanocrystalline materials there are numerous superior properties which actually are very useful and promising about
future works and applications. The reason for the superior properties is that nanocrystalline materials have very high
number of atoms at their grain boundaries which are in nanometer scale. Some of the properties that can be enhanced
and increased by making nanocrystalline materials rather than the coarse grained materials are higher strength, higher
hardness, increased diffusivity, increased mechanical properties and so on [3]. This is why people have studied in

Macromolecules Research Paper
There are four major classes of macromolecules. They are lipids, carbohydrates, proteins, and nucleic acids. There
are many similarities between these macromolecules, and they all play a very important role in biology. However,
there are also many differences, especially between lipids and the other three groups.
First of all, there are five main types of lipids. They are fats, waxes, oils, phospholipids, and steroids. Lipids are
hydrophobic, meaning they repel water and are nonpolar. The function of lipids is to store energy and it also helps
with keeping the structure of the cell walls. Generally a lipid has a glycerol with three fatty acids attached to it. This
is known as a triglyceride. Phospholipids are a little different in that they only have two fatty acids and these fatty

All macromolecules except lipids are long chains made up of smaller building blocks. For example, carbohydrates
are polysaccharides which are just a bunch of monosaccharides.Proteins are made up of amino acids and DNA and
RNA are made up of nucleotides. Another difference is that lipids are not soluble in water. Carbohydrates are all
soluble in water, as well a nucleic acids. Some proteins are and some proteins aren t soluble in water. The function of
a lipid also differs from that of a protein or nucleic acid. There are many functions to a protein depending on what
type of protein it is. Enzymatic proteins help to accelerate functions in the body such as digestion. Transport proteins
help move things across the cell membrane. There are many other important functions of proteins too. The function
of nucleic acids is to store information. Lipids function is to store energy which is the same as carbohydrates, but
lipids release more energy. Lipids release 9 kcal/g. but carbohydrates only release 4 kcal/g. Lipids also have a role in
cellular signaling and the structure of a cell which carbohydrates do

Kurt Cobain s Influence On The Music Industry
Kurt Donald Cobain was born on February 20th, 1967 and died on April 5th, 1994. In his lifetime, he gave a voice to
many young people who didn t think they had one, contributed most to the popularization of the Grunge genre, and
had a lasting impact on the music industry. Known as the spokesman for a broken generation , he was looked up to
by many young people around the world. It was him that sparked the wave of many underground, local or well
known grunge bands all across America and Europe that goes on until today. As for the music industry; Kurt Cobain
basically made alternative rock into a sub genre that had its own niche which made Billboard recognize it as what
brings independent music together.
Kurt Cobain was most known for his social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was without a doubt their most successful album and what brought the experimentation and untraditional loud
noise making to the masses. It was only as successful as it was because it was perceived to be unique and it was
perceived to be its own brand of catchy. Hard rock today still relies a good deal on drawing crude sonic inspiration
from Nirvana s dynamic and emotionally volatile output (Ramirez, 2014, par 5). However, it was their debut album
Bleach that established the loud random noises as their trademark. After it was released, many garage bands began to
do so much as noises of screeching pickups on their instruments to knocking over amplifiers at their live sets. Kurt
Cobain s success had been a breakthrough for bands in Portland, Chapel Hill, Omaha, and countless other places that
had been off the radar of the industry. (Cross, 2014, p.22). The energy still fuelled concert acts such as moshing and
crowd surfing, but it also served as a different kind of outlet for personal frustration. This is the one aspect that isn t
given enough stature: How Nirvana and co. helped reclaim the inclusiveness of music. Going to a show and being
yourself, or realising you could start a band without having to wear a bandana and bike shorts, or dress in the wildest
hair metal way possible in order to shock people, Nirvana conferred a real sense of belonging (Levin, 2014, par

Argumentative Essay On Killer Bees
Scientists and Beekeepers Can Make Killer Bees Less Aggressive
People discovered honey since an ancient time and considering it as liquid gold. There are many kinds of bees that
produce honey, and it differs from place to place. One remarkable species is African honeybee which well known for
its ability to produce more honey than other species and survive in hot climate (Anne, 2006). Evans and Butler(2010)
have acknowledged that some species of honey bees are known as Killer bees or Africanized bees, which are
currently living in some parts of South America and North America, and they started to move northward in the
United States. One reason for naming them Africanized bees is that they were introduced in Brazil and hybridized
with European bees. On the other hand, Killer bees got their name because they are much more defensive than the
other species, they will attack any living creature that is around them and is consider as a threat for them, sometimes
to death (Hodges, 1996).
According to Horn(2006), the Brazilian government tends to focus on beekeeping business since it is a low cost
business, and it does not require a land to work on. The suitable species were African bees because they produce
more honey than their cousin European bees do, and they can live in tropical weather (Hodges, 1996). However, with

Community, Identity, and Stability Essay
Community, Identity, Stability But I don t want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want
freedom, I want goodness, I want sin (Huxley 215). In Brave New World people lives were different and they had
different believes they were not allowed to feel emotion because as the Director said emotions are unstable. They
were conditioned to think the way their world is formed is perfect, but actually it isn t. Emotions could be unstable,
but is better to feel them instead of being an inhumane person that doesn t feel anything. People have to paid a price
that they didn t choose and that is unjust for them because they have to take what is giving to them. In the World
State people seems to be happy with what the have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Flowers are seen as beautiful and represent nature as the same as love when you give them to someone special. is
unjust to lack someone to feel appreciation to natural things and lack them from education. Another important fact is
that people in the World State doesn t have values as now we do. The concept of family doesn t exist, they consider
this word as obscene as the same as father and mother . In our world family is the most important aspect for most
people and we demonstrate love and support to them all the time. Marriage was another value that people doesn t had
and they seem it as horrible, for example when John propose Lenina to married him she said, what horrible idea!
(174). This shows how the idea of getting married with somebody was seen as something really bad, which for us is
beautiful. Also, people were not allowed to feel emotions, because emotions are seen as a risk of loosing stability in
their community. If they feel some kind of emotions they have to take soma to forget them. Is like if somebody have
to take drugs all the time in order to be happy. In my opinion I prefer to feel emotions even if no all of them are good,
instead of being like an object that doesn t feel anything. The price that people paid in order to have a stable
community is very high and it doesn t worth it. Values are

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus ( Hiv )
The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is an immune system disorder that can be contracted through sexual
activity as well as other types of contact. (Healthy Living, pg. 79) If left untreated this virus can turn into AIDS
(Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome). AIDS is the final stage of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).
(aids.gov) AIDS is an incurable progressive disease that causes gradual destruction of CD4 T cells by the human
immunodeficiency virus (HIV). (Diseases, pg. 431) A healthy adult has a CD4 T cell count of 1,000 or more but a
person suffering from HIV could have a count lower than 200. CD4 T cells are crucial to the immune system;
without them the immune system would not have the ability to fight off infections. One of the disquieting facts about
AIDS is that the infected person may be asymptomatic for years. If the infected person does begin to experience
signs and symptoms, their initial complaints are usually fever, rigors, arthralgia (joint pain), myalgia (muscle pain),
maculopapular rash, urticaria (hives), abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. (Diseases, pg. 432) Fatigue, anorexia, weight
loss, night sweats, mental deterioration, persistent cough, visual disturbances, intestinal inflammation, thick, white
crust covering the inside of the mouth, sores in the mouth, anus, or nose, and sometimes dyspnea are among
symptoms that often come along with AIDS. (Understanding and Caring for Human Diseases, pg. 346 350) Although

According to the UN, Rohingya Muslims are one of the most persecuted minorities in the world. Due to
clashes/conflicts between militant Muslims and Buddhists and poor economic conditions within Burma, many have
fled the country, especially Rohingya Muslims primarily situated/centred around the conflict zones. Neighboring
Thailand acts as an idealized sanctuary for the displaced refugees, though in reality even further abuse and
exploitation occurs over the border due to the incompatibility of these stateless individuals with strict immigration

As labor recruiters and brokers, middlemen provide the supply in response to the profitable demand for the human
trafficking industry through illegal channels involving government corruption, contributing to the exploitation of
migrants. In 1993, human rights group Asia Watch reported the involvement of Thai officials in the sex trade and
their treatment of Burmese girls in Thailand. After raiding the brothel in which 148 underage Burmese girls were
housed, they were rescued then arrested as illegal immigrants even though the girls claimed to have been forced or
tricked into practicing sex. Subsequently, they were deported back to Burma, where those who tested HIV positive
were claimed to have been shot, although this has yet to be substantiated been cases in which women have been
injected with cyanide for being HIV positive. In February 2014, Thai authorities have been caught, in February 2014
deporting 1,300 Rohingya Muslims from Thailand, an action which met with concern by humanitarian agencies to
the condition of the Muslims in their home country. These cases illustrate the involvement of the government with
the traffickers responsible for the continued repression and marginalization of Burmese prostitutes in Thailand.

My High School Job Application
Throughout the last four years of my high school career, I spent most of my time trying and experiencing new
opportunities. I love to keep myself busy, and I did so by being actively involved in numerous organizations.
Freshman year and still currently, I have been active in Track and Field. Freshman year I received a medal and made
varsity. By the end of that year I earned a varsity letter in Track and Field. The following year (sophomore), I had the
opportunity to work at my local hospital (Rhode Island Hospital). My job title was a patient transporter, which
required me to transport patients to and from their rooms and test sites throughout the hospital. Also, transferring
specimen was a regular task throughout the day. I genuinely appreciate the opportunity to work and witness all of the
different health fields in the hospital. This job opportunity is so important to my life because it helped me determine
that I like working and helping people, but I do not like seeing them sick and gory.
During my Junior year of high school, I became more active within my community. I joined the NAACP (National
Association for the Advancement of Colored People). I spent at least four hours a week, giving my time to the
NAACP, making and giving sandwiches to people in need, cleaning vacant lots, building a bed, and much more.

The last author may not actively involve in the research, but has contributed in more fundamental and important

This computer technology is useless without data from the physical world.
Today, computational biology has thrived forward to a new level where biologists do experiments totally in the
virtual world and take them into account and make them usable for further study or for drawing a conclusion about a
subject. For example, in real world, biologists, or more precisely evolutionary biologists, can t predict evolution and
are unable to go back to the time or to repeat the same path that has led to today s world. Through computer
simulation or program, biologists can have a look through the evolutionary pathway that had been followed long time
ago and made today s world.
One of the theory of adaptation is exaptation. Survival of the fittest determined the adaptation and thus evolution of
new species. Some evolutionary innovations may originate non adaptively as exaptation, or pre adaptations, which
are by product of other adaptive traits (Barve and Wagner, 2013). It has been known that birds got their feathers for
flight from dinosaurs, and some proteins change into lens because of their ability to refract light. In a nutshell,
exaptation is the result of adaptation from traits that were evolved for something different at first, which later causes
innovative changes and give adaptation for a different trait.
Barve and Wagener used novel computational methods in their research. They randomly sample different metabolic
pathways that can sustain life in any given carbon

Write A Letter To President Hooverville
Dear: President Hoover; As a concerned citizen, I am writing this letter to inform you that we as, Americans hold you
accountable for the terrible living conditions we are currently enduring. During these hard economic times there are
many Americans who can no longer support their families and provide for them. We no longer can afford to live in
our homes and apartments and throughout the nation you will find many of us live in communities filled with tin
shacks which we call Hooverville s. This all started only eight months into your presidency when the stock market
crashed on October 24th 1929. From this point on the country was no longer the same as our economy crashed and
you sat back and put in minimal effort to help the people. You publicly claimed to support local aid to jumpstart the
job market again, but have limited federal spending so it never truly does end up being beneficial to the public. You
believe that the government giving welfare to people money in a time of need will only make us weaker, and you

A Consensus On International Climate Change Policy
One of the greatest threats to humankind present in the 21st century is climate change. Human behavior, especially
since industrial revolution led over 600 thousand tons of carbon to be emitted into the atmosphere from fossil fuels
which thus enhanced greenhouse affects, and alters the natural cycle of global warming and cooling. The
consequence of such alteration has devastating effects globally as drastic temperature increases experienced in the
recent years are causing widespread damages . Effects of climate change not only helps deteriorate the biome as
quarter of all species could be pushed to extinction by 2050 , but also poses a large threat to living conditions and
challenges existing patterns of energy use and security Given that climate change is one of the most pressing issues
experienced in the modern era there has been little progress in the United Nations (UN) led climate negotiations . The
reason as to why states cannot come to a consensus on international climate change policy is because states reside in
an anarchic international system in which states are by nature: conflictual, self interested and focused on attaining
relative gain as shown through neo realist theory. In ability for states to negotiate a climate change action plan will be
shown through states pursuit of relative gains in the Kyoto Protocol, the role of economic growth in terms of relative
gains, and climate change lag/ state s personal agendas, which have led to numerous

The History of Mexico
Before the Spanish Mexico was occupied by a large number of Indian groups with very different social and economic
systems. In general the tribes in the north were relatively small groups of hunters and gatherers who roamed large
areas of sparsely vegetated deserts and dry lands. These people are often called the Chichimecs, though they were a
mixture of several cultural groups who spoke different languages. In the rest of the country the natives were
agriculturists, which helped to support the more dense populations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the Spanish came to central Mexico, the Aztecs controlled most of the central part of Mexico through a state
payment system that got taxes and stopped them from being able to act independently from conquered tribal groups.
The Aztecs moved into the central part of Mexico from the north and accomplished a tribal story by establishing a
city where an eagle with a snake in its beak rested on a cactus. This became the national symbol for Mexico and was
put on the country s flag and seal. The Aztecs started the city of Tenochtitlan in about the early 1300s, and then it
became the capital of their empire. The Tlaxcalans in the east, the Tarascans on the west, and the Chichimecs in the
north were outside the Aztec Empire and they would sometimes have wars with them. The nation s name comes from
the Aztecs war god, Mexitli.

External Stakeholders And Financial Information
For my final paper, the topic that I have chosen is how external stakeholders use financial information to make
decisions in a company. One thing that I have noticed is that you cannot tell if a company is at its best or its worse.
Loan companies, banks and are eager to see where companies match up against other competitors. These companies
take the most risk by investing money into units that are not started, maintained, or organized by themselves. Many
factors can come into play when stakeholders are looking to make a decision on where to place their money. Those
factors may include items that are being sold or produced, the message the company has to offer, etc. More
importantly, stakeholders use financial information to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are people and companies that may have an interest in what goes on with known businesses or companies.
Stakeholder s main interests are profit growth and dividends because their goal is to get a return on the money they
invested. Investors are stakeholders that buy shares in a company. (Baskerville, May 2011). Their primary interest in
knowing that the company is doing well so that they can put their money into the company for a greater return.
Lenders are external stakeholders who lend money to that enterprise on either a short or a long term basis usually
charging a fee or interest to make some money in return. Lenders are regularly composed of banks or other types of
financial institutions. Suppliers are also interested in how a company is doing because they want to make sure that

Speech On Blood Donation
The Gift of Life You re always somebody s type. Maybe not in the sense of finding love, but at least in donating
blood. When individuals are asked why they donate blood, their response is simple, it is heartwarming as well as a
rewarding feeling. Individuals can donate at blood drives and hospitals.Donors can either walk in or schedule an
appointment. Donating blood is not easy for some people, especially if it is the first time, they may not know what to
expect and they may be nervous. It is phlebotomist or employee at the blood donation center job to make the person
feel welcome and help them overcome any fears they may have.We need as many donors as we can get to try and
reach our number for how many pints of blood are required. Although we have blood banks like Bonfils; which is
one of many locations Colorado has for a bigger supply of blood to help us out in case of an emergency. We simply
would not have enough blood for the affected victims because we are short on blood donations; supply and demand
for donation are too high; diagnoses and transportation of blood would take too long.
As we begin, although we are thousands of pints short on blood, we would not be able to help large number of
victims in a big emergency, through more blood donations. If we were in need of lots of blood we would have lots of
donors lining up outside blood donor locations to help the cause. For example, the Las Vegas shooting massacre.

Maslow s Hierarchy Of Human Needs In Cast Away
In the movie Castaway, Chuck Nolan not only survives the island with nothing for four years, but he also
demonstrates Maslow s Hierarchy of Human Needs while he is there. This movie explains Physiological, Safety, love
belonging, esteem, and self actualization being made all on one island. Chuck Nolan was the main character and he
drifted away 500 miles on an island. The main thing he was missing on the island was the love of his life, kelly. The
first stage he showed was Physiological. This is because it is all the basic needs you must have such as food, water,
and shelter. Nolan uses this throughout his time on the island. He finds tree branches and makes fishing rod to catch
his food. Chuck also uses the raft he had from the plane to get to this island, as a bed and his shelter for when the
storms would come. When he he was walking around in the water, he came across a cave, where he then used it as
his other home for more warmth and more safety. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he went exploring on the island, he used the dress from the Fedex plane, to wrap around his feet as shoes, so
he did not hurt his feet. For safety, Chuck also used the life boat when the plane crashed so he did not have to float in
the ocean with nothing. Nolan used the cave for safety as well, when the storms came since it was much sturdier than
the plastic raft above his head. The third stage he showed was Love and Belonging. This stage was shown a lot. The
picture he carried everywhere of kelly showed this because he loved her a lot, and she was his purpose to keep trying,
so he could see her again. I also saw this when he made friends with Wilson, the volleyball. He never wanted to be
alone, treated him like he was a human and made sure he was okay when he left the island. Another love and
belonging I noticed was when he saw the captains dead body wash up on shore, he ran up to him, carried him to land,
and made him a funeral showing his love for a

Doctor-Patient Relationship Essay
More than just a diagnosis
To listen to personal stories of what it is like to be unwell is an incredible way for medical students and doctors to
learn about illness and gain firsthand insight into Whole person care . Earlier this year, I got the opportunity as part of
our ELM3 Healthcare in the Community (HIC) group to meet and learn about a member of the community with a
traumatic brain injury and her interactions with healthcare professionals and personal journey towards recovery. An
open discussion allowed us to learn about her narrative, which provided many examples of the distinction between
disease and illness and the importance of a patient centered approach to healthcare.
This opportunity is one of many the Otago School of Medicine and its HIC programme have organised to build a
foundation and develop into becoming a well rounded and patient focused doctor. It has allowed me to learn a vast
amount about myself and certainly has expanded my views on the importance of patient centered healthcare. This
essay is a reflective piece where I will expand on the story of Miss X and some specific learning experiences that
have helped me appreciate the integrated approach to the healing process of medicine as well as the importance of
the doctor patient relationship.
Approximately twelve years ago, at the age of twenty one, Miss X was involved in a motor vehicle accident resulting
in a traumatic brain injury and leaving her in a coma for nine and a half weeks. Upon

change to the four day compressed work week. Most participants either spent extra time on class preparation, running
errands, grading, recruitment, meetings, etc. Approximately 35% of the staff from Canino School of Engineering
Technology felt there was no break in classes and it was difficult to find time for office hours. Approximately 49% of
staff from the School of business and Liberal Arts and the School of Science, Health, and Criminal Justice felt there
was not time for committee meetings. About 55% of overall participants felt there was no change in the ability to get
work done. Approximately 56% of the participants felt the student academic performances were not impacted. An
overall 53% were satisfied with the four day compressed work week. Participants whom felt the four day compressed
work week was easier gave reasons of more efficient use of time during the week with Fridays being a day to get
other needed activities done or having an extra day off. Participants whom felt it was harder gave reasons of more

Skara Brae- A Stone Age Village
Skara Brae is a Neolithic (stone age) village located on the Orkney Islands, found north of Scotland (see image 1).
Using radiocarbon dating, it has been discovered that Skara Brae was one of the earliest farming villages in Britain
having been inhabited over 5000 years ago. It was due to isolation and minimal changes to the landscape that a
village that was created between 3100 and 2500 BC is one of the best preserved villages in northern Europe today.
Due to Skara Brae being prehistoric, and therefore, writing had not yet been developed, any evidence found on the
site is archaeological. This includes any physical remains or artifacts that help reveals anything about the settlement.

from animals would have been used for blankets. However, due to the lack of evidence, this theory remains
unsupported. Although evidence was found that, The inhabitants seem to have taken bones to bed with them to gnaw
for supper and the broken remains of such repasts are found on the beds floors (Childe, 1931). It was also suggested
that the bed was a personal place that was used to hide valuable as artifacts such as beads and paint pots were found.
Additionally, the inhabitants might have had a separate women s and men s sleeping area as decorative beads were
found only in a selected area of beds.
Another furnishings found include a dresser in each house (see image 2). It was positioned directly across from the
door (an unhinged block of stone) and, like everything else, was made from stone. Due to the two horizontal slabs of
stone, it was deduced that it was a dresser used to store and display any personal possessions. Also found in each hut

Stay At Home Mom Vs Working Mom Summary
Dr. Phil is the author of the article titled Stay at Home Moms vs. Working Moms on the Dr. Phil website. The idea of
women becoming an active member of the workforce has been quite an issue for a long time. Before proper child
care in the past, there was even a study conducted on children with working moms to determine the negative impacts
mothers in the workforce had on their children, and they concluded with quite a bit of data. However, this article
mentions a new recent study in which they determined that maternal employment has no detrimental impacts on
children. The author s perspective is obviously in favour of women having the right to work outside of the home and

People may say that an early relationship must be developed between children and their parents for proper
development, but in the article Dr. Phil argues, children who are in quality day care have increases in cognitive skills,
intellect, social skills and social comfort (Mcgraw 2003). I agree with what he says since child care services allow
children to interact with other children around their age, allowing them to develop good social skills. Since in the
present day, we have good quality child care services, it s safe to assume that working moms could lead to the greater
good. Next, since the dominant male already plays the role of a provider in the family, sharing this role with the
woman in the family will lower the burden of family responsibilities on both the husband and the wife. Having two
members of the family work will not only benefit the economy, it will also stabilize the family financially and it will
allow the children to spend more time with their father which they wouldn t have if the father was working all day.
Since working mothers leads to such a great benefit financially and economically, I agree with the author on his

Essay On Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone is the worlds first national park. It was origanally home to Native Americans who lived in the
Yellowstone area for at least 11,000 years. The U.S. Army was first commissioned to oversee the park just after its

Should Seventeen Year Olds Be Allowed To Vote
People might suggest that let sixteen and seventeen years olds citizens should vote just so that the teens can go in the
habit of voting at an early age and of to show them how the voting system actually works. Teenagers don t even have
the responsibility to clean up for themselves and are being peer pressured by their so called friends to do something
dangerous. That doesn t sound like people that can handle the idea of being able to change the world for the best or

People think that by lowering the voting age that they would have seen a bit more of a higher number of people that

A comparison of the averaged weather station datasets versus the historic individual weather station datasets was
made for both precipitation and Eto. The averaged monthly dataset preserved seasonality for both precipitation and
Eto as illustrated in the figures. Notably, for the months of February, March, and April, the average monthly
precipitation volume was lower than the actual weather station historic data. This occurred for two reasons: 1) the
disparity in the number of observations between the two weather station datasets and the average resulting in the
largest number of observations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

When people hear the name Roswell, they do not think of a desert town known for livestock, cotton, petroleum, and

The myth about Hephaestus had many connections which relate to real life and society. The connection I made while

Hephaestus because he looked ugly and deformed without knowing his personality. This took place during the
Unusual Birth part of the hero cycle. Hera had seen how her son looked deformed so she threw him into the sea
where a Sea God caught him and took care of him. In real life many people judge each other by how they look
without actually getting to know them. Hephaestus was just born and Hera had no idea about his talents in

Charles Darwin and Human Evolution in Intelligence Essay
The great and famous Charles Darwin is still remembered today after almost 2 centuries had passed. He was one of
the most significant scientists to change how we view this world. Life, as we know it, was changed by Charles
Darwin. But I don t believe that looking at the present will help in any way so I will take back to the past. It is a fact
that throughout history people have always believed in some sort of god. Some religions were weak and have come
and gone, where others have come and stayed. Many historic wars were fought for a god. So I believe it is safe to say

An example of an analogous structure would be the wings on butterflies, bats, and birds. The human appendix is
another example. It is no longer used in the human body but it is still there. However this is because we evolved so
much that we no longer need to use an appendix to survive. Another important example would be the development of
an eye in both mollusks and vertebrates. This example of analogous structures is especially useful because one of
most common claims made by religious creationists is that something as complex as an eye couldn t possibly have
evolved naturally they insist that the only possible explanation is a supernatural designer (which is always their god).
However if you see the eye of a hawk and the eye of a human they greatly differ. This shows that the eye of the hawk
has evolved more due to its environment and its hunting characteristics. On the other hand, the human eye is rarely
used to find something a small as a rat from a thousand feet away. The fact that the eye in different species are
analogous structures proves that the eye could evolve naturally, but also that it in fact evolved several times,
independently, and in different ways every time. The same is true of other analogous structures as well, and this is
because certain functions (like being able to see) are just so useful that it s certain they will evolve eventually. No

Human Intelligence Can Be Increased Due At Exercise
The beginning and an end. The start and the finish. Once something begins, it will eventually come to an end. But,
that true, does everything in the universe actually end? Numbers; a start with no finish. Numbers, something so
simple, yet so complex. An infinite creation of the human mind subdued by our unmeasurable human intelligence.
This is all capable due to the human brain. The brain is the most complex and unique organ in the human body. Some
even considerable it a muscle. Similar to muscles, your brain can be trained and worked for better functionality. But,
did you that there s a direct connection between exercising and increased intelligence in humans? In this paper I will

opposite side, using research that hypothetically disproves the idea that human intelligence can be gained through

argument and taking advantage of my critical thinking skills to validate my claim. Lastly, I will be concluding and

Eukaryotic Vs. Eukaryotic Cells
Eukaryotes and prokaryotes
There are only two types of cell in the world, these are eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. They are both similar and
different in many ways, for example prokaryotes are only a few micrometres in size whereas eukaryotes are between
5 100 micrometres and nearly 10,000 times the volume of that of a prokaryote. A chemical similarity between the
two is that they both either contain or use proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids to store or create energy.
Both eukaryotes and prokaryotes are able to be divided into further subcategories, eukaryotes can be either animal or
plant cells, and prokaryotes can be classified based on the composition of their cell wall, for example bacteria. In this
essay I will also go on to talk about why prokaryotic cells still exist in the microscopic world even though eukaryotes
are so much more advanced.
Eukaryotic cells
Eukaryotic cells make up many different living organisms, all animals and plants are made up of these cells. They
have a much more complex structure and can thus carry out many more complicated functions than prokaryotic cells
can. They are usually around 5 100μm in size which allows them to contain many organelles, which for cells with
specific functions, such as plant leaf cells, they are able to contain many more chloroplasts. They divide via mitosis

The culture of the people of Isreal is Jewish and they are minorities who were living in a strange land since their
deportation 100 years earlier from Judah. The culture of the Jews some say is steeped in Judaism which is their
religious belief but the traditional explanation, and the one given in the Torah, is that the Jews are a nation, which in
Hebrew is goy , which means a group of people with common history . (Jewfaq/judism.htm)
The book of Esther was written to the people of Isreal to demonstrate God s sovereignty and his loving care for his
people. The book shares the circumstances that were essential to the survival of God s people in Persia.
These circumstances were not the result of chance but of God s grand design; God is in fact sovereign over every
area of life. The message that God wanted to convey to this people (Isreal) was that even though they were faced
with great hardships and though they were living in a hostile environment that was full of hatred, he was still
concerned and cared about their lives and was still in control. (Life Application Study Bible, 1988)

How Does Margaret Atwood Use Feminism In The Penelopiad
Feminism Margaret Atwood is known for her literary works that characterizes her as a strong feminist. One of her
books is The Penelopiad. Atwood allows the voiceless Odysseus s wife, Penelope, to reveal her side of the story as
well as the twelve maids who were hung to be weaved in through poetic injections. As Penelope speaks to the 21st
century readers, she is giving readers an insight into the patriarchal society during the time period. Margaret Atwood
s creativity, imagination, and her views of feminism allow Penelope to speak in first person about her own
experience. Atwood effectively incorporates the twelve maids to show double standards of gender roles. She explores
the concept of words using colloquial language in The Penelopiad as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She reveals feminism through the use of double standards in gender roles and in different culture settings, colloquial
language to show readers Penelope s side of the story branched off of the Odyssey, and the application of different
genres in the chorus line showing relationships from the genre to the concept of the maids chorus lines. The use of
double standards serves a purpose in Atwood s book because it shows readers the difference in Penelope s time
period to the 21st century and the gender roles, for an example Odysseus and Penelope. The double standards of the
twelve maids execution reveal that it was common for men to rape women during that time period. As for the double
standards in relevance to Odysseus and Penelope, Odysseus was involved with many women but expected Penelope
to remain faithful. The analysis of double standards found in this book shows Margaret Atwood s feminist view. In
The Penelopiad, Margaret Atwood explores the concept of words using colloquial language in which Penelope is
given the voice to narrate her own story. She allows Penelope to speak of her oppressed life as a woman during her
time period and what happened while Odysseus was away through her perspective. By the effective use of colloquial
language, readers understand Penelope as if she is conversing to the 21st century readers. Atwood also links the
different kinds of genre to the concept of the maids

Nathan In The Poisonwood Bible
9) Share your thoughts on why the author never has Nathan Price narrate directly. Everything you know about
Nathan must be derived from what others said about him. Consider why Kingsolver chose to omit Nathan s narration.
Nathan Price is not given a voice in The Poisonwood Bible because the story does not revolve around him personally.
The story revolves around his wife and four daughters, who are heavily affected by all of his decisions and actions.
Nathan indeed is the center of all the tragedy and hardship that the girls endure, but Nathan does not suffer his own
consequences, until his ultimate demise at the hand of the Congolese. Also, I believe Kingsolver wanted a precise
image of Nathan in the reader s mind whenever he was found throughout the story. She wanted to depict him as
abhorrent and repulsive, so the readers despise him even more. Nathan is the center of pain for the Price family. First,
he forces them to leave their luxurious home in Bethlehem, Georgia, and move all the way to the Congo, isolated
from their modern society. All four of the children are deprived from a proper education, and the entire family is
restricted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every time Nathan was present in the story I was immediately displeased and wanted him gone. His vulgar
comments and actions anger the reader so much, and Kingsolver wanted that image to stay. She wanted the readers to
hate him so they can sympathize with Orleanna and her daughters. If she included his narrations in the book, the
reader could possibly see his soft side, and his anger. His frustration has to have a root somewhere (his horrific
experience in the war), and with the exposure of his own thoughts and feelings, the reader would be able to witness
them and have a new opinion of him. For the purpose of The Poisonwood Bible though, Nathan had to remain the
antagonist and stay the bad

Intercultural Interview Essay
For the intercultural interview, I decided to interview my friend Medelyn, a 19 year old female of Honduran and
Mexican descent. During the interview, I focused on her Honduran culture, as she was born in Honduras, I asked her
a multitude of various questions ranging from formalities in her culture to gender roles to classism in her culture..
The interview lasted about twenty minutes, I asked her about fifteen questions, and after she answered each question
there would be a small discussion about her answer. When interviewing Medelyn, it was important to rid myself of
any ethnocentrism, assumed cultural similarity or differences, stereotyping, and anything that could create a bias and
compromise the interview. I started of the interview ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stating that There is a lot of inequality and everyone has a place in society. Subsequently, I followed with a question
inquiring whether Honduras was more of a masculine or feminine society. Masculine societies tend to focus on
competition, strength and dominance, contrarily, feminine societies have a tendency to concentrate on being caring
and supportive. Medelyn described Honduras as a place where relationships tended to be more caring, traditional and
supportive. My next question was about individualism and whether or not Honduras was more of an individualist or
collectivist society. Individualist cultures, as stated in Chapter 3, Value personal rights and responsibilities, privacy,
voicing one s opinion, freedom, innovation and self expression. , while collectivities cultures value community,
collaboration, shared interests, harmony, the public good, and avoiding embarrassment. Medelyn described Honduras
as A place where being loyal to the community is valued and there is shared blame and responsibilities. , which
would mean Honduras is more of a collectivist society, given the description of community being valued rather than
individuals, meaning that people care for the welfare of the society. Context was the subject of my next question,
figuring out whether Honduras was a low or high context society was what I inquired from Medelyn. A lot of
communication is done by hand signals, body movements,

Why dialogue is needed in organization
Introduction
Why dialogue is needed in organization?
Dialogue is different from any other tool of the techniques it is method for problem formulation and problem solving
technologies. Dialogue is essential for understanding culture and sub culture, for that instance organizational learning
will probably depend upon such cultural understanding. Because of the high revolution seen in the technology and
technological advancement its essential for an organization to accept the path of dialogue. There are many subunits
had been formed in organization because of knowledge based information, geographies, market, product, and
technology. So this subunits transform their subcultures. So organization have to require some mental models. And

But decisive dialogues can not be duplicated. These factors constitute an organization s most enduring competitive
advantage, and they are heavily dependent on the character of dialogue that a leader exhibits and thereby influences
throughout the organization. (ram charan 2001).
Dialogue is not just a path of productive conversation but it also implies reflectiveness or positive response. It is not
just improving the effectiveness of business and proving objectives but its create the relation between two parties eg.
Stakeholder and owner, manager and worker, owner and manager etc. in dialogue each person is participating, is
partaking the whole meaning of the group and also taking part in it. ( david bohm 1996,p. xiii)
When one time dialogue is in act than its possible to short the gap between two groups and cultures. Groups are
interested for making fairness results in their given task through good conversation and by giving their different
thoughts. Dialogue encourages their participants to cut their stereotypes . (daniel yankelovich 1999)
Dialogue explore the self organizing theory in which individual have to act in a team for accomplish such objectives
in way of culture. when individual being together they have specific ideas for making such communication. Dialogue

My First Cooperative Education Placement
During my first cooperative education placement, I worked at Grantham, Mayo, Van Otterloo Co. (GMO), a global
investment management firm that has its global corporate headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts. GMO provides a
broad range of investment products, including equity and fixed income strategies across global developed and
emerging markets, as well as absolute return strategies with a value orientation. Their clients are primarily large
institutional investors, and as of December 31, 2014, they had $116 billion in assets under management. During my
time there, I was employed in the Fund Reconciliation Team within the Investment Controls Group. My team s
responsibilities mainly consisted of reconciling investment funds on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis with
custodian bank values. Though the attire was business casual, the office environment was considered quite
conservative, and professionalism is certainly a required trait in the office. Over the course of my internship, I
encountered many issues and challenges in the organization that left me discouraged, unmotivated, and unsatisfied.
Through an analysis of the lack of emotional intelligence, motivation, as well as weakness in job design, it is evident
that there are aspects of the workplace that need to be addressed. My role as an Investment Control Analyst Intern
primarily comprised of responsibility for the reconciliation of 13 quantitative equity separately managed funds. Each

My Experience With Real Estate And The Mortgage Crisis
My experience with real estate and the mortgage meltdown is very personal. The beginning of the crisis happened
around 2007 when I was in the 8th grade. Eighth grade was the year that my middle school offered a trip to students
to go to Washington D.C. and New York City. As a history buff and all around lover of traveling to new places, I was
excited to be able to go on this trip. No one in my family had ever been that far across the United States and I was
determined to be the first one. Not only was I offered the opportunity to travel, something that I did not often do, but
also the chance to visit two places full of history and wonder.
My prospect of going on the trip of lifetime was halted by the real estate and mortgage crisis. This was because my
father is a construction worker.
My father works for a construction company that builds frames. How I describe this to others is: he creates the
skeleton for houses and without him, houses cannot become homes. When the housing market crisis happened, my
father s company lost customers and jobs. No one needed framers anymore. No one was buying houses because no
one could afford them and some were being foreclosed on. The company lost business and had to layoff employees
because the world was in economic turmoil. My Dad stopped receiving bonuses that would pay for our Christmas
presents, our family trips, and would be home more often because there just wasn t any work.
This was a depressing time for my entire family but we

Coal Seam Gas
Coal seam gas (CSG) is mostly composed of methane and is typically attached to coal underground. This gas is
released when pressure on the coal seam is reduced by removing water from the seams (Queensland Government,
2014 ). In order to obtain the gas, wells are drilled into the coal seams, bringing water from the coal seams to the
surface. This process reduces pressure and allows the gas to be released (Queensland Government, 2014 ). CSG is an
important energy resource in Queensland and production of this gas takes up an ever increasing proportion of
Queensland gas use. Almost every farmer in Queensland depends at times on underground water. The effect of CSG
extraction using underground fracturing on underground water is not clear. Basic sets of impacts that are broadly well
understood are that aquifer levels will sink dramatically and will depressurise. It also risks groundwater
contamination and the salt that is present in the water of coal seams will be brought to the surface as well, in a
quantity of about 1.8 million tonnes of salt per year (ABC, 2010). There are several types of water contamination that
are possible. One is through the injection of chemicals through the fracking processes, which will go underground
and can travel to nearby water systems that are in use (Gasfield Free Northern Rivers, 2014). Another is through
chemicals that naturally exist in coal seams being taken out of the coal seams and exposed to other the various water
systems nearby. Some of

1. INTRODUCTION
An individual has many personal email accounts and hence he needs to remember their passwords. Remembering all
the credit card numbers is a heavy duty [6]. ELockBox can encrypt one s file containing all the ID s, passwords etc.
and store it on the server instead of storing it on the phone itself. For Encrypting and Decrypting the file AES
algorithm is used. AES algorithm can be implemented with 128, 192 and 256 bits[1]. AES algorithm is efficient to
protect classified information which is on SECRET level. For TOP SECRET 192 and 256 bit key AES is
recommended. AES algorithm is the main part in the eLockBox. The passwords required for authentication of a
person and file is stored on the server rather than in one s phone. In the authentication process, a person is required to
prove his identity using Login ID s or draw patter (CAPTCHA) or both for better security. After successfully entering
into eLockBox a person can encrypt his file and then upload it on the server. A person is required to remember the
secret key that is generated automatically while the process of encryption. This key

  • 2. Prohibition And Its Effects On The United States When personal choice is withdrawn from individuals and prohibition is implemented to control natural human behavior, the hypocrisy that many preach the United States as being a free society and a nation of tolerance seems to deteriorate when politicians see any opportunity to capitalize on the masses without regard. Yet even after alcohol prohibition and fighting an endless war on drugs, history still repeats itself over and over again while the taxpayer is left with the bill. Responsible and recreational drug users feed the black market without any other option due to prohibition. And with an unlimited and unregulated supply from cartels to satisfy the consumer, there is no question why Al Capone came to light at the end of alcohol ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even today, manslaughter may give you less time behind bars than being convicted in the drug trade. And with Congress in 1986 implementing a five year minimum for anyone found with an equivalent of a few sugar packets worth of crack cocaine (Pupovac), there was little to no remorse for any drug use at the time including marijuana. Additionally when looking at the case of Alva Mae Granny Groves in 1994, a 72 year old woman who was convicted of conspiring to trade crack cocaine for food stamps. The punishment was nothing short of harsh. She had no prior criminal background yet was sentenced to 24 years due to the sentencing system at that time. She wrote the following in a letter before she died while incarcerated; The only money I received came from SSI (Supplementary Security Income) and what money I could earn selling eggs from my laying hens (I had about 100 chickens), I also cleaned houses when I was able, and sold candy bars and soft drinks to the kids coming from school in the afternoons. She also requested a pardon at the end of her life in order to die closer to her family, but due to the unethical laws at the time she was denied (Pupovac). Next when looking at other sentencing systems around the world, the United States is ranked the highest in marijuana arrests exponentially. In 2014 alone, there were over 700,000 marijuana related arrests in the United States yet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Shining By Stephen King The Shining, a novel written by Stephen King followed by a film directed by Stanley Kubrick in 1980 is a horror/thriller narrative filled with many mysteries of its own. Initially, The Shining portrays itself as an average The house is haunted but no one believes me story. However, as the plot progresses we learn that there is much more that goes into the big picture. At its core, the narrative is about isolation, psychological problems, alcoholism, and the suspense of an impending doom. Jack, played by Jack Nicholson, is an average middle class man who takes on an opportunity to become an off season caretaker at a large, isolated resort known as the Overlook Hotel. Along with him he brings his wife, Wendy and his five year old son, Danny, to spend the winter alone at the Hotel. Regardless of his wife s cold feet about relocating to such an isolated area during a violent season, Jack, being the decision maker of the family, sticks to his guns. As a struggling writer, Jack believes this job to be the perfect opportunity to take to his writing in a peaceful, serene setting where seemingly nothing can get in his way. We quickly learn that the Overlook Hotel, as large and luxurious as it is, is not as comforting, relaxing, or even as welcoming as we are initially led to believe. In fact, it almost immediately exudes negative energy, with a violent and savage undertone from the very beginning when the family moves in. Most affected by this, is the son of the family, Danny, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Emergency Contraceptive Pills ( Ecps ) Emergency Contraceptive Pills (ECPs) is a widely controversial debate between medical officials, teachers, parents, and teens. Most parents do not want to think about their teenage daughters engaging in sexual activities; yet, at some point, it is more than likely going to happen. The CDC reports showed in 2013 there were over 270,000 babies born to adolescents between the ages of 15 19 years old (1). This figure may seem high but has declined over the last two decades and reduced by 10% during 2012 to 2013 (1). There are several methods of birth control to inhibit pregnancy and the spread of sexual transmitted infections (STI.) One form that aids in preventing pregnancy is commonly known as the morning after plan or Plan B. For females over the age of 15, the FDA has approved teens to buy the pills without a doctor s prescription (1). Purchases can be made at various local pharmacy stores. The pills are taken immediately after having unprotected sex, or after a woman believes, she may become pregnant from sexual intercourse. Dr. Abell express the hormones progestin and estrogen are the same hormones used in birth control pills (341). The pills work by either obstructing or delaying the natural pregnancy process, but is not an abortion because a woman is not yet pregnant. If a woman takes the pill and she is already pregnant there has been no evidence to prove the fertilized egg will be harmed (Abell 341). To have the most effect the pills should be taken within ... • 6. Nanocrystalline Materials Essay Introduction To explain nanocrystalline materials, it should have been explained that nano concept at first. Nanostructures are relatively new and interesting subject to investigate, they are in a scale which is between 0 100 nanometers (1 nanometer, nm is equal to 10 9 meter). There are some types of nanostructured materials such as lamellar (1 dimensional), filamentary (2 dimensional) and crystallites (3 dimensional). If grains of the material are made up of crystals, then nanocrystalline materials term is what they are called. In this case, nanocrystalline materials have grains which are the size of 100 nm typically. An example of nanocrystalline material of SnO2 is imaged with STM as seen in Fig. 1 [1] and SEM image of nanocrystalline diamond thin films as seen in Fig. 2. [2] Fig. 1. STM image of nanocrystalline SnO2 [1] Fig. 2. SEM image of nanocrystalline diamond thin films. [2] In nanocrystalline materials there are numerous superior properties which actually are very useful and promising about future works and applications. The reason for the superior properties is that nanocrystalline materials have very high number of atoms at their grain boundaries which are in nanometer scale. Some of the properties that can be enhanced and increased by making nanocrystalline materials rather than the coarse grained materials are higher strength, higher hardness, increased diffusivity, increased mechanical properties and so on [3]. This is why people have studied in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Macromolecules Research Paper There are four major classes of macromolecules. They are lipids, carbohydrates, proteins, and nucleic acids. There are many similarities between these macromolecules, and they all play a very important role in biology. However, there are also many differences, especially between lipids and the other three groups. First of all, there are five main types of lipids. They are fats, waxes, oils, phospholipids, and steroids. Lipids are hydrophobic, meaning they repel water and are nonpolar. The function of lipids is to store energy and it also helps with keeping the structure of the cell walls. Generally a lipid has a glycerol with three fatty acids attached to it. This is known as a triglyceride. Phospholipids are a little different in that they only have two fatty acids and these fatty acids ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All macromolecules except lipids are long chains made up of smaller building blocks. For example, carbohydrates are polysaccharides which are just a bunch of monosaccharides.Proteins are made up of amino acids and DNA and RNA are made up of nucleotides. Another difference is that lipids are not soluble in water. Carbohydrates are all soluble in water, as well a nucleic acids. Some proteins are and some proteins aren t soluble in water. The function of a lipid also differs from that of a protein or nucleic acid. There are many functions to a protein depending on what type of protein it is. Enzymatic proteins help to accelerate functions in the body such as digestion. Transport proteins help move things across the cell membrane. There are many other important functions of proteins too. The function of nucleic acids is to store information. Lipids function is to store energy which is the same as carbohydrates, but lipids release more energy. Lipids release 9 kcal/g. but carbohydrates only release 4 kcal/g. Lipids also have a role in cellular signaling and the structure of a cell which carbohydrates do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Kurt Cobain s Influence On The Music Industry Kurt Donald Cobain was born on February 20th, 1967 and died on April 5th, 1994. In his lifetime, he gave a voice to many young people who didn t think they had one, contributed most to the popularization of the Grunge genre, and had a lasting impact on the music industry. Known as the spokesman for a broken generation , he was looked up to by many young people around the world. It was him that sparked the wave of many underground, local or well known grunge bands all across America and Europe that goes on until today. As for the music industry; Kurt Cobain basically made alternative rock into a sub genre that had its own niche which made Billboard recognize it as what brings independent music together. Kurt Cobain was most known for his social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was without a doubt their most successful album and what brought the experimentation and untraditional loud noise making to the masses. It was only as successful as it was because it was perceived to be unique and it was perceived to be its own brand of catchy. Hard rock today still relies a good deal on drawing crude sonic inspiration from Nirvana s dynamic and emotionally volatile output (Ramirez, 2014, par 5). However, it was their debut album Bleach that established the loud random noises as their trademark. After it was released, many garage bands began to do so much as noises of screeching pickups on their instruments to knocking over amplifiers at their live sets. Kurt Cobain s success had been a breakthrough for bands in Portland, Chapel Hill, Omaha, and countless other places that had been off the radar of the industry. (Cross, 2014, p.22). The energy still fuelled concert acts such as moshing and crowd surfing, but it also served as a different kind of outlet for personal frustration. This is the one aspect that isn t given enough stature: How Nirvana and co. helped reclaim the inclusiveness of music. Going to a show and being yourself, or realising you could start a band without having to wear a bandana and bike shorts, or dress in the wildest hair metal way possible in order to shock people, Nirvana conferred a real sense of belonging (Levin, 2014, par ... • 9. Argumentative Essay On Killer Bees Scientists and Beekeepers Can Make Killer Bees Less Aggressive People discovered honey since an ancient time and considering it as liquid gold. There are many kinds of bees that produce honey, and it differs from place to place. One remarkable species is African honeybee which well known for its ability to produce more honey than other species and survive in hot climate (Anne, 2006). Evans and Butler(2010) have acknowledged that some species of honey bees are known as Killer bees or Africanized bees, which are currently living in some parts of South America and North America, and they started to move northward in the United States. One reason for naming them Africanized bees is that they were introduced in Brazil and hybridized with European bees. On the other hand, Killer bees got their name because they are much more defensive than the other species, they will attack any living creature that is around them and is consider as a threat for them, sometimes to death (Hodges, 1996). According to Horn(2006), the Brazilian government tends to focus on beekeeping business since it is a low cost business, and it does not require a land to work on. The suitable species were African bees because they produce more honey than their cousin European bees do, and they can live in tropical weather (Hodges, 1996). I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness, I want sin (Huxley 215). In Brave New World people lives were different and they had different believes they were not allowed to feel emotion because as the Director said emotions are unstable. They were conditioned to think the way their world is formed is perfect, but actually it isn t. Emotions could be unstable, but is better to feel them instead of being an inhumane person that doesn t feel anything. Flowers are seen as beautiful and represent nature as the same as love when you give them to someone special. is unjust to lack someone to feel appreciation to natural things and lack them from education. Another important fact is that people in the World State doesn t have values as now we do. The concept of family doesn t exist, they consider this word as obscene as the same as father and mother . In our world family is the most important aspect for most people and we demonstrate love and support to them all the time. Marriage was another value that people doesn t had and they seem it as horrible, for example when John propose Lenina to married him she said, what horrible idea! (174). This shows how the idea of getting married with somebody was seen as something really bad, which for us is beautiful. Also, people were not allowed to feel emotions, because emotions are seen as a risk of loosing stability in their community. If they feel some kind of emotions they have to take soma to forget them. Is like if somebody have to take drugs all the time in order to be happy. (Healthy Living, pg. 79) If left untreated this virus can turn into AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome). AIDS is the final stage of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). (aids.gov) AIDS is an incurable progressive disease that causes gradual destruction of CD4 T cells by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). (Diseases, pg. 431) A healthy adult has a CD4 T cell count of 1,000 or more but a person suffering from HIV could have a count lower than 200. CD4 T cells are crucial to the immune system; without them the immune system would not have the ability to fight off infections. One of the disquieting facts about AIDS is that the infected person may be asymptomatic for years. If the infected person does begin to experience signs and symptoms, their initial complaints are usually fever, rigors, arthralgia (joint pain), myalgia (muscle pain), maculopapular rash, urticaria (hives), abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. (Diseases, pg. 432) Fatigue, anorexia, weight loss, night sweats, mental deterioration, persistent cough, visual disturbances, intestinal inflammation, thick, white crust covering the inside of the mouth, sores in the mouth, anus, or nose, and sometimes dyspnea are among symptoms that often come along with AIDS. Due to clashes/conflicts between militant Muslims and Buddhists and poor economic conditions within Burma, many have fled the country, especially Rohingya Muslims primarily situated/centred around the conflict zones. Neighboring Thailand acts as an idealized sanctuary for the displaced refugees, though in reality even further abuse and exploitation occurs over the border due to the incompatibility of these stateless individuals with strict immigration and border policies. After raiding the brothel in which 148 underage Burmese girls were housed, they were rescued then arrested as illegal immigrants even though the girls claimed to have been forced or tricked into practicing sex. Freshman year I received a medal and made varsity. By the end of that year I earned a varsity letter in Track and Field. The following year (sophomore), I had the opportunity to work at my local hospital (Rhode Island Hospital). My job title was a patient transporter, which required me to transport patients to and from their rooms and test sites throughout the hospital. Also, transferring specimen was a regular task throughout the day. I genuinely appreciate the opportunity to work and witness all of the different health fields in the hospital. This job opportunity is so important to my life because it helped me determine that I like working and helping people, but I do not like seeing them sick and gory. During my Junior year of high school, I became more active within my community. I joined the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). Today, computational biology has thrived forward to a new level where biologists do experiments totally in the virtual world and take them into account and make them usable for further study or for drawing a conclusion about a subject. For example, in real world, biologists, or more precisely evolutionary biologists, can t predict evolution and are unable to go back to the time or to repeat the same path that has led to today s world. Through computer simulation or program, biologists can have a look through the evolutionary pathway that had been followed long time ago and made today s world. One of the theory of adaptation is exaptation. Survival of the fittest determined the adaptation and thus evolution of new species. Some evolutionary innovations may originate non adaptively as exaptation, or pre adaptations, which are by product of other adaptive traits (Barve and Wagner, 2013). It has been known that birds got their feathers for flight from dinosaurs, and some proteins change into lens because of their ability to refract light. In a nutshell, exaptation is the result of adaptation from traits that were evolved for something different at first, which later causes innovative changes and give adaptation for a different trait. Write A Letter To President Hooverville Dear: President Hoover; As a concerned citizen, I am writing this letter to inform you that we as, Americans hold you accountable for the terrible living conditions we are currently enduring. During these hard economic times there are many Americans who can no longer support their families and provide for them. We no longer can afford to live in our homes and apartments and throughout the nation you will find many of us live in communities filled with tin shacks which we call Hooverville s. This all started only eight months into your presidency when the stock market crashed on October 24th 1929. From this point on the country was no longer the same as our economy crashed and you sat back and put in minimal effort to help the people. You publicly claimed to support local aid to jumpstart the job market again, but have limited federal spending so it never truly does end up being beneficial to the public. You believe that the government giving welfare to people money in a time of need will only make us weaker, and you want us to fight through a deteriorating economy and rise when there is ... Levitt and Dubner make the book interesting by making wild comparisons. Then, they justify these comparisons with hard evidence and it is quite amazing. Levitt and Dubner s casual attitude is seen in almost every part of the book. For example, take this quote: The problem with crack dealing is the same as in every other glamour profession: a lot of people are competing for a very few prizes (Levitt and Dubner, pg. 103). • 17. A Consensus On International Climate Change Policy One of the greatest threats to humankind present in the 21st century is climate change. Human behavior, especially since industrial revolution led over 600 thousand tons of carbon to be emitted into the atmosphere from fossil fuels which thus enhanced greenhouse affects, and alters the natural cycle of global warming and cooling. The consequence of such alteration has devastating effects globally as drastic temperature increases experienced in the recent years are causing widespread damages . Effects of climate change not only helps deteriorate the biome as quarter of all species could be pushed to extinction by 2050 , but also poses a large threat to living conditions and challenges existing patterns of energy use and security Given that climate change is one of the most pressing issues experienced in the modern era there has been little progress in the United Nations (UN) led climate negotiations . The reason as to why states cannot come to a consensus on international climate change policy is because states reside in an anarchic international system in which states are by nature: conflictual, self interested and focused on attaining relative gain as shown through neo realist theory. In ability for states to negotiate a climate change action plan will be shown through states pursuit of relative gains in the Kyoto Protocol, the role of economic growth in terms of relative gains, and climate change lag/ state s personal agendas, which have led to numerous ... The main thing he was missing on the island was the love of his life, kelly. The first stage he showed was Physiological. This is because it is all the basic needs you must have such as food, water, and shelter. Nolan uses this throughout his time on the island. He finds tree branches and makes fishing rod to catch his food. Chuck also uses the raft he had from the plane to get to this island, as a bed and his shelter for when the storms would come. Doctor-Patient Relationship Essay More than just a diagnosis To listen to personal stories of what it is like to be unwell is an incredible way for medical students and doctors to learn about illness and gain firsthand insight into Whole person care . Earlier this year, I got the opportunity as part of our ELM3 Healthcare in the Community (HIC) group to meet and learn about a member of the community with a traumatic brain injury and her interactions with healthcare professionals and personal journey towards recovery. An open discussion allowed us to learn about her narrative, which provided many examples of the distinction between disease and illness and the importance of a patient centered approach to healthcare. This opportunity is one of many the Otago School of Medicine and its HIC programme have organised to build a foundation and develop into becoming a well rounded and patient focused doctor. It has allowed me to learn a vast amount about myself and certainly has expanded my views on the importance of patient centered healthcare. • 37. Charles Darwin and Human Evolution in Intelligence Essay The great and famous Charles Darwin is still remembered today after almost 2 centuries had passed. He was one of the most significant scientists to change how we view this world. Life, as we know it, was changed by Charles Darwin. But I don t believe that looking at the present will help in any way so I will take back to the past. It is a fact that throughout history people have always believed in some sort of god. Some religions were weak and have come and gone, where others have come and stayed. Many historic wars were fought for a god. So I believe it is safe to say that religion was the most important thing in life for everyday people. Then comes the renaissance, a time of successful new art, science and new ideas. It is no longer used in the human body but it is still there. However this is because we evolved so much that we no longer need to use an appendix to survive. Another important example would be the development of an eye in both mollusks and vertebrates. This example of analogous structures is especially useful because one of most common claims made by religious creationists is that something as complex as an eye couldn t possibly have evolved naturally they insist that the only possible explanation is a supernatural designer (which is always their god). However if you see the eye of a hawk and the eye of a human they greatly differ. This shows that the eye of the hawk has evolved more due to its environment and its hunting characteristics. On the other hand, the human eye is rarely used to find something a small as a rat from a thousand feet away. The fact that the eye in different species are analogous structures proves that the eye could evolve naturally, but also that it in fact evolved several times, independently, and in different ways every time. The same is true of other analogous structures as well, and this is because certain functions (like being able to see) are just so useful that it s certain they will evolve eventually. But, that true, does everything in the universe actually end? Numbers; a start with no finish. Numbers, something so simple, yet so complex. An infinite creation of the human mind subdued by our unmeasurable human intelligence. This is all capable due to the human brain. The brain is the most complex and unique organ in the human body. Some even considerable it a muscle. Similar to muscles, your brain can be trained and worked for better functionality. But, did you that there s a direct connection between exercising and increased intelligence in humans? In this paper I will be backing up my statement that human intelligence can be increased due to exercise. I will also give a view on the opposite side, using research that hypothetically disproves the idea that human intelligence can be gained through exercise. Then, I will be evaluating my claim, backing up my point by applying reason, utilizing the four tests of an argument and taking advantage of my critical thinking skills to validate my claim. Lastly, I will be concluding and synthesizing my argument. According to a couple studies exercise and intelligence have no connection. Some even suggest that exercise has negative effects on human intelligence. The first study was done by Kaycee M. However, through out our countries history, money has been able to influence elections. Therefore, it is important that the government install a limit on how much one can contribute to a campaign. Because of this, congress has worked vary hard to limit the amount of money that one is able to contribute during a federal election. • 40. Eukaryotic Vs. Eukaryotic Cells Eukaryotes and prokaryotes There are only two types of cell in the world, these are eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. They are both similar and different in many ways, for example prokaryotes are only a few micrometres in size whereas eukaryotes are between 5 100 micrometres and nearly 10,000 times the volume of that of a prokaryote. A chemical similarity between the two is that they both either contain or use proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids to store or create energy. Both eukaryotes and prokaryotes are able to be divided into further subcategories, eukaryotes can be either animal or plant cells, and prokaryotes can be classified based on the composition of their cell wall, for example bacteria. In this essay I will also go on to talk about why prokaryotic cells still exist in the microscopic world even though eukaryotes are so much more advanced. Eukaryotic cells Eukaryotic cells make up many different living organisms, all animals and plants are made up of these cells. They have a much more complex structure and can thus carry out many more complicated functions than prokaryotic cells can. They are usually around 5 100μm in size which allows them to contain many organelles, which for cells with specific functions, such as plant leaf cells, they are able to contain many more chloroplasts. They divide via mitosis or meiosis, where mitosis produces two new identical nuclei, and meiosis is when the cells split to produce two new cells with half the number of ... She reveals feminism through the use of double standards in gender roles and in different culture settings, colloquial language to show readers Penelope s side of the story branched off of the Odyssey, and the application of different genres in the chorus line showing relationships from the genre to the concept of the maids chorus lines. The use of double standards serves a purpose in Atwood s book because it shows readers the difference in Penelope s time period to the 21st century and the gender roles, for an example Odysseus and Penelope. The double standards of the twelve maids execution reveal that it was common for men to rape women during that time period. As for the double standards in relevance to Odysseus and Penelope, Odysseus was involved with many women but expected Penelope to remain faithful. The analysis of double standards found in this book shows Margaret Atwood s feminist view. In The Penelopiad, Margaret Atwood explores the concept of words using colloquial language in which Penelope is given the voice to narrate her own story. She allows Penelope to speak of her oppressed life as a woman during her time period and what happened while Odysseus was away through her perspective. • 43. Nathan In The Poisonwood Bible 9) Share your thoughts on why the author never has Nathan Price narrate directly. Everything you know about Nathan must be derived from what others said about him. Consider why Kingsolver chose to omit Nathan s narration. Nathan Price is not given a voice in The Poisonwood Bible because the story does not revolve around him personally. The story revolves around his wife and four daughters, who are heavily affected by all of his decisions and actions. Nathan indeed is the center of all the tragedy and hardship that the girls endure, but Nathan does not suffer his own consequences, until his ultimate demise at the hand of the Congolese. Also, I believe Kingsolver wanted a precise image of Nathan in the reader s mind whenever he was found throughout the story. She wanted to depict him as abhorrent and repulsive, so the readers despise him even more. Nathan is the center of pain for the Price family. His frustration has to have a root somewhere (his horrific experience in the war), and with the exposure of his own thoughts and feelings, the reader would be able to witness them and have a new opinion of him. Individualist cultures, as stated in Chapter 3, Value personal rights and responsibilities, privacy, voicing one s opinion, freedom, innovation and self expression. , while collectivities cultures value community, collaboration, shared interests, harmony, the public good, and avoiding embarrassment. The beginning of the crisis happened around 2007 when I was in the 8th grade. Eighth grade was the year that my middle school offered a trip to students to go to Washington D.C. and New York City. As a history buff and all around lover of traveling to new places, I was excited to be able to go on this trip. No one in my family had ever been that far across the United States and I was determined to be the first one. Not only was I offered the opportunity to travel, something that I did not often do, but also the chance to visit two places full of history and wonder. My prospect of going on the trip of lifetime was halted by the real estate and mortgage crisis. This was because my father is a construction worker. My father works for a construction company that builds frames. How I describe this to others is: he creates the skeleton for houses and without him, houses cannot become homes. When the housing market crisis happened, my father s company lost customers and jobs. No one needed framers anymore. No one was buying houses because no one could afford them and some were being foreclosed on. The company lost business and had to layoff employees because the world was in economic turmoil. • 48. Coal Seam Gas Coal seam gas (CSG) is mostly composed of methane and is typically attached to coal underground. This gas is released when pressure on the coal seam is reduced by removing water from the seams (Queensland Government, 2014 ). In order to obtain the gas, wells are drilled into the coal seams, bringing water from the coal seams to the surface. This process reduces pressure and allows the gas to be released (Queensland Government, 2014 ). CSG is an important energy resource in Queensland and production of this gas takes up an ever increasing proportion of Queensland gas use. Almost every farmer in Queensland depends at times on underground water. The effect of CSG extraction using underground fracturing on underground water is not clear. Basic sets of impacts that are broadly well understood are that aquifer levels will sink dramatically and will depressurise. It also risks groundwater contamination and the salt that is present in the water of coal seams will be brought to the surface as well, in a quantity of about 1.8 million tonnes of salt per year (ABC, 2010). There are several types of water contamination that are possible. One is through the injection of chemicals through the fracking processes, which will go underground and can travel to nearby water systems that are in use (Gasfield Free Northern Rivers, 2014). Another is through chemicals that naturally exist in coal seams being taken out of the coal seams and exposed to other the various water systems nearby. Some of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
