Midlife Behavior Essay examples
From the life course perspective, midlife behavior has both antecedents and consequences.
Earlier life experiences can serve either as risk factors or as protective factors for the health and
well being during this stage of development. According to the study Journey from Childhood to
Midlife completed by Werner and Ruth Smith in 2001, by middle adulthood, most people have
noted a balancing in their lives and improvement in overall quality of their lives. The period of
early adulthood had provided positive turning points such as community college, marriage to a
stable partner or military service. A contributing factor is relationships that provided emotional
support as well. The presence of a nurturing caregiver from infancy, as well as... Show more content

The two other theorists, Jung and Levinson held similar views. Karl Jung and Daniel Levinson
theorized that middle adulthood was time for balancing a person s life much like Erikson.
However, Jung sees as a time for discovery and reclaiming parts of the self that was repressed in
the search for conformity in the first half of life. On the other hand, Daniel Levinson sees the life
course more as a sequence of eras each with his own biopsychosocial character with major changes
from one to the next. Levinson sees adulthood as fluctuating periods of relative stability and periods
of transition. He viewed the developmental stage as balancing four opposing aspects of identity and
to understand the life, and more importantly, the personality theory, developed by Carl Jung, it is
important to note the time span in which he lived. Jung s insight shows the human need for a
relationship. All three theorists felt relationships had an impact on human development and thus
relationships in middle adulthood deserve further examination.
Relationships play significant roles throughout the life course and this is especially true in middle
adulthood. The relationships are the most diverse and many of them mature and evolve through the
stages of development while others just begin to emerge. This is seen in infancy with the most
significant relationship being their caregiver and in middle childhood it moves beyond

Essay On Evernote
Introduction For many years, it has been a dream of many people that there will be way to
integrate various communication platforms in a single system where files can be shared. Many
long for that day where people can have a way to interactively share documents saved in their
computer or in the computers of others efficiently. However with the advent of gadgets such as
tablets, smartphones and other similar devices, this dream is slowly becoming a reality. The
emergence of many applications which focuses in increasing productivity in an internet age society
now dominates the market. From basic files sharing possibilities to complete and real time
interaction between electronic devices, these kinds of applications are continually improving...

Evernote was first introduced to the internet world in June, 2008. The impressive application
came into reality due to the efforts of its founder, Stephan Pachikov. He was the main proponent
and chief architect of the Evernote service, which is now the favorite application of millions of
people worldwide. From the introduction of this application the middle of 2008, until July of 2011
more than 11 million are regular users of its services. Because of the potential of this amazing
application, huge allocations of funds are poured into improving and developing its features.
Funding for Evernote development reached over $225 million. This

The Dark Avengers
Heroes come in all shapes and sizes; tall, dark, handsome, ugly, astute, or mentally handicapped,
and Shane is no exception. He rode into their lives with temperance and vigor, and left a legacy
behind. How does one deal with a shady business man who is hell bent on wanted and willful
destruction of freedom? Brute force has always been the heroes approach. Shane rode into a small
town in Wyoming and met a family, who with all their respect needed a hero. Both of the stories
that I will tell, including Shane s and the story of Tombstone had their similarities, and also had
their differences. What is it about the dark clothed eerie figures that instill so much fear in the
hearts of vigilantes? Perhaps it is their silence that speaks such... Show more content on

Another obstacle lay ahead as Fletcher would not have this stranger ruin his plans of
domination. Up on the balcony behind Shane he took a shot. Missing his target, Shane returned
fire in a glorious finish to what was a choice long awaited in his mind. I expect that finishes it,
Schaefer (141) he uttered, and it did. I will now describe Wyatt Berry Stapp Earp; a lawman,
hunter, gambler, saloon keeper, miner, and boxing referee. Wyatt s appearance was always
professional. He would wear pressed black suits and pants, with a vest, and underneath the suit,
a white dress shirt was visible. On his head, a top hat was occasionally seen. When he was
younger, around twenty years of age, facial hair was a constant for Earp. It started as a small
moustache, and grew into a wavy horizontal pattern that remained fixed upon his face. His eyes
were dark and he seemed to wear a scowl, any man that strolled by him could not help but notice
his intense aura. Many people thought of him as the county sheriff; however he preferred the city
marshal title. His attitude toward crime involved taking no chances, and he became known for
cracking the long barrel of his Colt over the heads of offenders, a good solution to avoid a fatality,
and for delivering the perpetrator into prison. Wyatt loved to disturb the peace when a member of
the town became disorderly. The movie Tombstone portrays his character well as a courtesy starved
lawman who wants nothing but respect, and honesty from the

American Born Chinese in ABC by Gene Yang Essay
People always seem to be changing themselves because they want the approval of others and are
worried what others think of them. They aren t happy about who they are, maybe its looks, or
maybe its race that they are concerned about, either way people try to change who they are. In
ABC, the author Yang reveals many common stereotypes about chinese peopleand the struggle they
might have in fitting in. Chin kee one of the main characters is very stereotypical and impacts
Danny and Jin s life greatly. Jin Wang the main character faces some problems fitting in because of
his race and the stereotypes associated with it and changes himself in order to fit in.

Jin Wang is embarrassed to even be apart of his family by the way he acts and how he represents
their culture. He now can see how hard it is to fit in.
Jin Wang was born in America but is also Chinese. He faces some difficulties with racism and
stereotypes as he grows up. He just moved to a new school from San Francisco. The teacher
introduces him to the class and says, Class, I d like us all to give a warm Mayflower Elementary
welcome to your new friend and Classmate Jin Wang...He and his family recently moved to our
neighborhood all the way from China! (30). Jin has this look on his face of annoyance. Like, did
she actually say this. She is too ignorant to ask so she just assumed that since he is Chinese, that
he must be from China. He was born in America. This just shows how ignorant people are about
other cultures. It makes it even harder to fit in if people don t even care where you re from and
just make assumptions. Jin now experiences this first hand. He tries so hard to fit in and be
normal. He goes as far as changing his hair to match the guys hair that Amelia likes. When he isn
t noticed as much he wants to become someone else, someone who will fit in. He wakes up in the
morning a new person, as he has transformed into someone he is not, he thinks to himself, A new

Developing A Philosophy For Discussions
As I approached the end of this course, I read the PPCC Online Campus article Developing a
Philosophy for Discussions. Immediately, this was a perfect reference to help describe that one
overarching topic that encompasses all that I gleaned from this course. That one topic is
organization. The structure of this course, and the discussions in each module, and how each built
upon skills and topics learned, allowed me to understand a great online tool to have, organization.
In the article, Developing a Philosophy for Discussion, (PPCC Online Campus article) the author

Finally, developing an excellent round of questions that promote and further discussions and
critical thinking. With these new tools, I can ensure a successful online course to offer in the
spring 2015 session, and I can immediately apply these tools to my fall 2014 classroom sessions
for greater student learning and success. I d like to begin with rubrics, and the rubrics I currently
use compared to some of the examples gleaned from my peers in the discussion boards. All of
my assignments have an attached grading sheet. This outlines where points are divided among
specific items such as following direction, mastery of a skill or technique, creativity (photo
project) or content (essay) and presentation. Students know what is expected, however,
sometimes I think that certain categories such as content, can be subjective and ambiguos.
Having said that, I read several of the peer rubrics provided and found wonderful examples for
ways to make that grading more specific, and less open to argument from the student. For
example, the Grading Rubric for PHI 111 Research Paper, provided by Carolyn Brown in Module
5/Discussion 1, has a good breakdown of the content section of a research paper into categories

Definition Of Exponential Distributions
A resulting straight line through the graph of H(t) would suggest that an exponential distribution
would be the favoured choice for these data, while a straight line through the graph of log
H(t)would suggest a weibull distribution for the data. Figure~ref{HazCumHaz}, for patients who
filled in a Home Care or both a Home Care and a Contact Assessment, does not support either
distributions. Part results for outputs from the exponential and weibull distributions for these data
are shown in Appendix~ref{AppendixB}. These results confirm the evidence from
Figure~ref{HazCumHaz} and show that neither distributions fit the data well. Therefore, formal

Further, stepwise regression is also known to pick smaller models than desired~footnote{http:/
/www.biostat.jhsph.edu/~iruczins/teaching/jf/ch10.pdf}. The criteria used in the step wise
variable selection process for this study was the Akaike information criterion (AIC). AIC
estimates the quality of each model, relative to each of the other models by estimating the
information lost when a model is used to represent the data. In doing so, it deals with the trade
off between the goodness of fit of the model and the number of parameters used. When using the
AIC criterion, the model with the least is the preferred model. After using the AIC selection
process, any insignificant variables which were selected by step wise regression were manually
removed from the model. There was also a need to consider the practicality of the model. Some
highly significant variables resulted in coefficients that were very small for any practical use. For
instance, if a variable resulted in a coefficient of $0.04$ then this coefficient would be $0.04
times$ the baseline hazard. This would consequently increase mortality by a factor of $e^{0.04}$
days; which is $~1.04 times$ baseline number of days. The resulting increase is very insignificant
and could be ignored. Table~ref{LowCoeffs} consists of 63 variables that were removed from

Museum Szymborska Analysis
Time is a permanent fixture in our world. It is with us the moment we take our first breath and
when we close our eyes for the last time. We use it to arrange events, change our appearance to
look as if time has had no effect on us, and attach it to special moments in our lives . Szymborska
explores our relationship with time, and our aspiration to rebel against it, in her works Museum
(30), Landscape (70 71), and The People On The Bridge (218 219) found in Poems New and
Collected (Szymborska, 1998) by portraying time as an antagonist, showing how humans fight time,
as well as their attempts to achieve immortality through detritus objects and art. In both poems,

/ They have their own ways of expressing protest. (3) A museum is a place where works of art
and various objects of cultural and historical significance are collected and displayed to help
give a better understanding of the past. The poem Museum (30) speaks of various objects and
their relationship to humans, and how they have outlived their human counterparts. The crown
has outlasted the head. / The hand has lost out to the glove. / The right shoe has defeated the
foot. (16) Although we ultimately accept that humans cannot defeat time, we can use these
items as a means of achieving immortality. Szymborska offers a different perspective on how we
try to influence and organize these detritus items through rhyme. Ire (5) and hour (6), celebrate,
(11) and date (12) are all an emotion or a reference to time. These contrasts highlights the fact
that time is out of our control. The specific references to numbers, a way we place emphasis on
the significance of objects through time, are arbitrary. There are some three hundred years (3)
or the ellipsis and line break emphasises the fact that Eight (11) is irrelevant, this human attempt
at order is proven futile. Szymborska acknowledges that humans know we cannot physically
preserve ourselves, we can t defeat time, so instead humans have preserved themselves through
different objects, from plates, wedding rings, fans, swords, and lutes. In Museum, Szymborska
defamiliarizes how we perceive the objects found in a museum, instead describe a place that
preserves a collection of detritus items. The People On the Bridge (218 219) is an allusion to a
painting drawn by Hiroshige Utagawa with the same name. He has successfully preserved his
memory, described as a rebel; time has tripped and fallen down. (30) He has

Relational Data Models Versus No Sql Data Model
Relational Data Model Versus No SQL Data Model
Rutu Patel
CSIT 555 Database Systems
Midterm Research Paper
[1] INTRODUCTION:
The term database can be defined as the collection of systematic, well ordered and structured data
that can be easily and efficiently handled, retrieved and upgraded on a periodic basis depending on
its requirements. The structure and organization of any database is based upon its respective
database model.
A unique database model is implemented by each database depending upon the logical structure of
the data that is being handled by that database. There are numerous distinct database models out in
the market at present that allow the application developers to effectively manage the data. The most
widely welcomed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fundamental theory of logical relations among the grouped data is incorporated in the
relational database model. This method offers numerous advantages such as keeping the structured
data in an organized and logically related manner, ease of data handling in case of related data or
information, simplicity of data management and many more. In general, it can be stated that those
database systems that assimilate the technique of relational SQL data model can execute in a
productive and precise method.
[3] THE NO SQL DATABASE SYSTEM AND KEY VALUE STORE DATA MODEL:
The term No SQL is considered in a much wider vision which means Not Only SQL . This can
be elaborated in the sense that the concept of No SQL does not consider the complete
elimination of SQL language, rather it focuses on supporting other SQL like queries. The No
SQL Database basically follows a model free approach. The leading advantage of implementing
the No SQL database is eliminating all the restrictions of the rigorously followed structured model
in the relational database system. In No SQL approach, there are many flexibilities of choosing
eligible data structure according to the information or data that has to be handled. Some of the
widely followed data models of the No SQL database are key value stores, column family stores,
document database, graph database, etc. The fundamental concept behind the development of the
key value store data model is to create a data model that

Paramedics working in the prehospital environment have traditionally used the gold standard
practice of spinal immobilization for any patient with sufficient mechanism of injury or general
presentation to suspect a spinal cord injury. These spinal cord precautions, until recently, have been

likely due to the fact that initial presentation of the high cervical injury and the potential for rapid

Female Characters In Beowulf Essay
I find myself disagreeing with the above statement. It is clear to me that within the epic poem
Beowulf , the narrative is mostly dominated by poems male characters. Beowulf, Grendel,
Hrothgar all have major roles in the poems narrative, the poem is written from the male perspective
and its central themes of bravery, violence and heroism are associated with the male characters.
This would lead one to agree with the above statement, that the roles of the femalecharacters in
beowulf are minor and easily forgotten due to the fact that they are mostly in the background, but
upon closer inspection it has become clear to me that the female characters of Beowulf play a very
important role in contributing to the poem s narrative.

Laramie, Wyoming, 21 year old college student Matthew Shepard was brutally beaten by two
men and tied to a fence, left for dead. Matthew s murderers set out only to rob him, but ended up
beating him so severely that he never regained consciousness before he died. Why did this happen
in the first place? Simply because Matthew was gay. Matthew s death became a national symbol of
violence against homosexuals, prompting prayer vigils and calls for state and federally supported
hatecrime laws.
Today, America prides itself on being a tolerant country. Through laws and legislation, including
affirmative action, anti hate crime laws, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is true that some of the first cases of HIV and AIDS in America were found in gay males.
However, once the disease was more widely researched, it was discovered that people other than
gays could become infected with the virus, including children, women, and recipients of blood
transfusions. Promiscuity among homosexuals is no more common than among straight people (
Sexual Behaviors Text 2 ). While having multiple partners and sharing needles through drug use are
common causes of AIDS, these things are not exclusive to the gay community.
Many people also believe in a so called Gay Agenda. Among other things, gays are supposedly
trying to convert heterosexuals, especially young children, to the other side. Homosexuals are
allegedly attempting to spread their disease throughout America. The idea that homosexuals recruit
children is based falsely on the idea that a person s sexual orientation is a choice, not a natural state.
Children cannot be turned gay merely by contact with a member of the gay community ( About the
Religious Right ). According to the American Psychological Association, research suggests that the
homosexual orientation is in place very early in the life cycle, possibly even before birth. It is
found in about ten percent of the population, a figure which is surprisingly constant across cultures,
irrespective of the different moral values

1984 Commentary .
George Orwell s 1984, is a novel about the life of Winston Smith living in a totalitarianism state
where Big Brother has control, power and dominates the lives of citizens. There are many
significant paragraphs which stand out in the book however I extracted the passage on pages 127,
128 from Folly, Folly, his heart..... to ...the absence of a telescreen because it has great literary
insight and significant elements of symbolism behind it.(This is where Winston heard the prole
women singing for the first time.) The first line starts of with Folly, Folly which is a repetition of
the word twice. The word folly basically means the trait of acting stupidly or rashly. This depicts the
protagonist s emotions towards his opponent which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the next paragraph, is the description of how Winston spotted the prole woman singing. The
window symbolizes a closure for freedom on the outside world. So basically, the women sings to
the outside world as a call for freedom. The motif sun, used twice in the sentence, The June Sun
was still high in the sky, and in sun filled court represents how far light is at reach for the women
and citizens of the country. The sun is a motif which represents light, brightness and hope which
brings happiness, however it is out of reach therefore they still yet to live in the dark. The
descriptions of the women, a monstrous women, solid as a Normal pillar, with brawny red
forearms is visual image of how women and people living in the state are unattractive as there
isn t time to polish themselves and are only dutiful and filling their responsibilities for the Party.
The prole woman is also seen as a reproductive virility as she is pegging out a series of square
white things which Winston recognized as babies diapers . The diapers represent the prole
women giving birth to the future generation. The prole women s children are a symbol for hope
as Winston hopes that there will be change in the future with hope that the proles will eventually
come to realization and rebel against and overthrow the party. The lyrics of her song foreshadows
the future as it says, it was only a hopeless fancy, it passed like and ipril dye which

Literary Works about Success
In a world full of success gurus and books about success, it becomes ever so more important to
describe the one quality that ultimately leads to success. This plague conquered the human
minds and pushed us, till we came up with the ideas to sell success guiding books and making
money which leads to successfulness. In the story, the house, in which Paul s family lives in, is
personified to be standing for more money: And so the house came to be haunted by the
unspoken phrase: There must be more money! There must be more money! The children could
hear it all the time though nobody said it aloud. (151) . This is a symbolic element because it
shows how much greed that house held, and how greed was driven by an addiction to money in
each member of that house. There is never enough money for Paul s mother and the house is
caught the bug of that overwhelming need. It is this insatiable need for money that leads to
consequences in the end as we read in the story and lead to Paul s death. But Paul s death is just a
small fraction of what is going on in the real world. Wars in the name of success were fought and
driven humans to kill each other. A simple example is Napoleon; he conquered in the name of
success. In other words, this communicates the theme of how money corrupts humanity. In the short
story, The Rocking Horse Winner, there is a little boy who competed for his mother s love, and his
mother brought her son to his death with her confusing vocabulary.

Objectivity And Religion
The literatures on values in philosophy on observation and theory have to do with the distinction
between the observable and unobservable. Objectivity comes in degrees. Claims, methods and
results can be more or less objective, and, other things being equal. Using the term objective to
describe something often carries a special rhetorical force with it. The admiration of science
among the general public and the authority science enjoys in public life stems to a large extent
from the view that science is objective or at least more objective than other modes of inquiry.
Understanding scientific objectivity is therefore central to understanding the nature of science and
the role it plays in society. How can we maintain the view that objectivity... Show more content on

Contextual values are moral, personal, social, political and cultural values such as pleasure, justice
and equality, conservation of the natural environment and diversity. The most notorious cases of
improper uses of such values involve travesties of scientific reasoning, where the intrusion of
contextual values led to an intolerant and oppressive scientific agenda with devastating epistemic
and social consequences. In the Third Reich, a large part of contemporary physics, such as the
theory of relativity, was condemned because its inventors were Jewish; in the Soviet Union,
biologist Nikolai Vavilov was sentenced to death (and died in prison) because his theories of genetic
inheritance did not match Marxist Leninist ideology. Both states tried to foster a science that was
motivated by political convictions (Lenard s Deutsche Physik in Nazi Germany, Lysenko s anti
genetic theory of inheritance in the Soviet Union), leading to disastrous epistemic and institutional

Choice Theory Vs Trait Theory Criminology Essay
Theories are a significant part of developing a body of knowledge within an academic discipline.
Within the domain of criminology, many theories have provided a foundation to stimulate the
growth of this area of study. The beginning of criminology began with individual level theories;
they focus on the perpetrator s individualistic features to answer the question of why crimeoccurs.
Two major theories that divide the individual level theories are choice theoryand trait theory. Both
contain various principles within their unit. Choice theory involves classical criminologywhile trait
theory relates to biological, psychological, and sociological determinism. These theories use
different approaches to explain why individuals commit crime. Before legal policies and penal
codes were developed, crime and punishment could be described as barbaric. The accused were
treated unfairly, cruel and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The majority of the crimes during this time were gruesomely reprimanded, and many times,
individuals had no knowledge that certain acts were illegal. Judges obtained far more discretion
than should have been allowed. Criminal acts were suggested to be caused by supernatural
happenings like Satan and demonic possessions. The first step away from such harsh system and
irrational crime provoking causes was with the development of classical criminology. In 1764, a
man soon to be named the father of modern criminology, Cesare Beccaria developed a criminal
justice system proposal which focused on aiding the people instead of the crown (Adler et al.,
2007). The views of crime and punishment drastically changed into the idea that crime should be
punishable to the extent of the crime committed. Classical criminology revolves around the idea
that individuals

Coal Mining In West Virginia Essay
Before 1890 in West Virginia, you would not be able to see any signs of coal mining. However,
after 1890 coal mining surged due to new legislative representatives favoring the use of land in an
industrial sense. Coal mining was now dominating the southern region of West Virginia. In the
beginning, coal miningdid not seem to have many effects on the people or land; but, eventually
people became very aware of the negative consequences that came from coalmining. People are
now aware that coal miningin West Virginia was almost entirely detrimental to the environment
as well as the community. Throughout West Virginia, everyone agreed there was a large amount
of air pollution from coal mines. These air pollutants were so bad in the 1990s that the Clean Air
Act was enacted. However, this act had unforeseen consequences of its own. Coal companies
began to need much more readily available coal. So, they mined coal that was closer to the
surface by using mountaintop removal. This resulted in a decrease in jobs for miners because this
was a much easier and efficient way of removing coal. The many jobs that were originally created
by coal mining were now being cut. Now numerous people in West Virginia were left unemployed.

The Tipping Point By Malcolm Gladwell
Many phenomena exist within the world; whether it be the butterfly effect, the small world theory,
or even the laws of gravity, these entities shape reality. In the book The Tipping Point, Malcolm
Gladwell analyzes an effect he coins the tipping point . The tipping point essentially is the point at
which small, seemingly insignificant changes become significant enough to cause a large and often
times important change . Throughout the text of this novel, Gladwell explores this notion more in
depth; he utilizes real world examples such as the re emergence of Hush Puppies, a popular
footwear item, and dissects the epidemic of the syphilis outbreak in Baltimore, Maryland in order to
achieve this purpose. The underlying principles in The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His ability to make relationships and acquire information made him the best person to take the role
as initial adopter. The qualities of Paul Revere allowed him to initialize a complete cascade in his
network of early American settlers during his Midnight Ride . The final connection between The
Tipping Point and diffusion in relation to the Law of the Few deals with the importance of weak
ties. Weak ties allow for information to be relayed across clusters of a network. Without the
appearance of weak ties, diffusion would be rather difficult to accomplish. The prime example
of an individual who possessed many weak ties goes by the name Roger Horchow. In The
Tipping Point, Horchow is a master at creating relationships and bonds in areas of life in which
he had no real expertise. Horchow had social connections in the arts, technology, agriculture,
architecture, business, law, health care, and any other occupational field . Horchow and his social
connections were edges in which information could be passed along seamlessly from one cluster
to another, making the possibility of a complete cascade much more probable regarding diffusion.
Besides the Law of the Few, Gladwell attributes the occurrence of a tipping point and its relation to
diffusion with the Law of Stickiness as well.
The Law of Stickiness bases much of its philosophy upon the notion that there are certain factors

Kant And Kant s Universal Law Essay
Does Kant successfully establish that one must never under any circumstances or for any purpose
tell a lie?
In this essay, I will argue that Immanuel Kant fails to successfully establish lying as morally
impermissible because the claim that lying is morally impermissible goes against common sense.
Kant defines his Universal Law to demonstrate the necessary action one must take in order to act
in a way that is morally permissible and uses it in support of his belief that one s motive is the sole
determinant of the moral worth of his actions. He uses the Universal Law Theorem to determine
whether it should be morally permissible to lie in any occasion, and consistently reaches the
conclusion that is it not (Kant Paton, 2005). However, let us consider an example situation: An
elderly woman is awoken during the night to pounding on the door from a handful of children
claiming to have just escaped the captivity of a pedophile in the neighbourhood. She immediately
takes the children into her home, promising to keep them safe for the night. Before she has the
chance to contact the authorities and their parents, she hears the sounds of a man raging outside,
screaming about lost children. The woman answers the door calmly, claiming to have just been
awoken and scolds the younger man for being so rowdy, sternly telling him she has not seen any
children and encouraging him to return home before she contacts the authorities.

An Description Of An Exact Dissipation Model For Arbitrary
Referee Report: Manuscript ID# OL: 280139
PAPER DESCRIPTION
In the paper titled An exact dissipation model for arbitrary photonic Fock state transport in
waveguide QED systems , Chen et al. have presented a dissipation model to study the Fock and
coherent state transport through waveguide QED (wQED) systems. As the main novelty of their
work, they have modelled the environment as a 3D scattering channel (described in a real space
picture similar to the waveguide modelling) and it has been shown that a reduced Hamiltonian can
be obtained for arbitrary photon number Fock state which can describe the photonic transport with
a restricted eigenstate. To illustrate, one , two , N photon and coherent state examples are
presented. Finally, two simple geometries of the scattering channel are considered namely the
uniform medium and a slab waveguide. Authors have also very briefly pointed out the applicability
of their model in cavity QED.
COMMENTS AND DECISION
Overall the paper has interesting findings and is systematically presented. In particular, the
modelling of the environment as a non excitable 3D scattering channel, is the key attraction in this
work. Moreover, the authors have made claims which seems not to be exaggerated. However, there
are some points in this work which can be ambiguous to the interested reader. Therefore, I can
recommend publication of this paper in the Optics Letters, provided the authors performs the
following revisions:

Comparing Marvelettes And Beatles Versions
There are different versions of Please Mr. Postman . Listening to Marvelettes and Beatles versions,
I fall in love with song. There are some differences between these two versions. First of all, the
lyrics are different. Reading the background information, I know that the Marvelettes version
features a womanwho hopes the postman to bring a letter from her boyfriend to her, since her
boyfriend is away from her and at war. Reading the lyrics for just a card, or just a letter, saying he
s returning home to me , I can see a woman staring at outside of the house with tears in her eyes,
missing his man so much. On the contrary, Beatles version describe an opposite scene. They change
boy to girl , and he to she . With these changes, Beatles version describes a man looking forward to
hearing from his girlfriend. Second, the instrumentations in these two versions have some
differences. Even though both versions have some instrumentations in common, Marvelettes
version uses the piano and percussion. These two elements are not applied to Beatles version.
Beatles have two guitars, lead guitar and rhythm guitar. Also, instead of using drums only, Beatles
also uses cowbell. Another major difference on instrumentation is that Beatles applies handclapping
at the beginning and at the end of the song, while Marvelettes do not use such element.

That the watch was designed for a particular purpose: To tell the time
That the parts of the watch work together for its purpose and they fit
That the parts of the watch are ordered in such a way that it will allow the watch to function
If the watch and its parts that make it function are arranged differently then it will not work and
hence it will not achieve its purpose.

much as it has focused on energy (Maini, 2014). With all things considered, China virtually has
monopoly over Burmas offshore gas fields. Its economic and political engagement in Burma is
greater than any other country in the world beyond comparison.
Tribal Rights Approximately 33% of Burma s population consists of tribal groups. The population
ranges from the Wa and Kachins in the North, to the Chins in the Northwest, to the Rohingya
Muslims with ties ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Contrary to popular belief, the tribes are weary of Burma becoming a democracy too soon. Suu Kyi
is little more than a symbol of the wrong issue democracy first! Ethnic rights and the balance of
ethnic power are preconditions for democracy (Kaplan, 2011). The granddaughter of famous
military general Aung San, Aung San Suu Kyi, has led Burma s National League of Democracy.
India has a strong relationship with Suu Kyi, as India supported Burma s democracy leader
prior to changing its policy to engagement with the regime. Suu Kyi studied in India, won the
Nehru Award for International Peace in 1982, and her family has strong ties to Jawaharlal
Nehru (Myint U, 2011). Although Suu Kyi and the tribes are against the same military, their
visions for the order are different by which a transition to a civilian government must to occur.
The major concern of the tribes is their rights through a federation that grants them self rule. Suu
Kyi specifically desires elections, with less regard for the distinctive approach that will be
necessary in order to satisfy the tribes. India and Suu Kyi have distanced from each other,
creating an opportunity for India to advocate for the tribes. The tribes may very well look to India
as a model to follow given India s own form of

The Rise Of The Pentecostalism Movement
In this paper I will be discussing the rise of the Pentecostalism movement and briefly how it has
changed the world through its rapid outspreading around the world. Most do not know the great
impact that this movement had on the world. I hope to introduce this movement in this paper and
why it is important to Church History.
Roots of Pentecostalism Pentecostalism has its roots in Wesleyan notions of conversion and the
higher life advocates. Both of these brought out a belief in a second experience that happened after
salvation. They, John Wesley and John Fletcher, called this baptism in the Holy Spirit
. It also has its
origins in the evangelical faith healing movement that was lead by Charles C. Cullis. This
movement focused on healing and the physical well being through miraculous acts. Another was
the early church of Corinth and the Day of Pentecost. The Great Awakening was also apart of the
beginning of this movement through its heartfelt salvation through Jesus Christ. The baptism of the
Holy Ghost streamed out of England through John Wesley s thoughts on entire sanctification.
Another group, Calvinist, who emphasized on a total transformation in their life after conversion.
Through all these influences and divine healing led people to believe that this experience after
conversion that was said to happen was through baptism of the Holy Ghost. Mainly rooted in the
Fourfold Gospel. Another reason this movement took root was because it embodied all the

Essay about Mobey Dick
Herman Melville s Moby Dick is a book which can be read as a general metaphor for the battle
between the evil powers of the Devil versus the divine powers of God and Jesus, both try to obtain
the souls of mankind in order to assist in each other s destruction. In this metaphor, the Devil is
shown through the person of Captain Ahab, God becomes nature, Jesus is seen as the White Whale,
and the representation of mankind is the crew. The voyage of the Pequod, therefore, is a
representation of a similar voyage of mankind on earth, until the death of Jesus, during the whole
thing the influences of these three supernatural forces are connected. Thus, the basis of this idea is

quot;The hand of fate had snatched all their souls, and by the stirring perils of the previous day;
the rack of the past night s suspense; the fixed, unfearing, blind, reckless way in which their wild
craft went plunging towards its flying mark; by all these things, their hearts were bowled along.
The wind that made great bellied sails, and rushed the vessel on by arms invisible as irresistible;
this seemed the symbol of that unseen agency which so enslaved them to the race, quot; (p.606)
Relating to the metaphor, this passage can be viewed as giving the possibility of God as
symbolized through the medium of nature in Moby Dick. The quot;wind , thought about in this
sense, is an quot;unseen agency quot; of the motivation of God, which leads men s souls to the
right paths. However, it is not a representational term found just in Melville s book. This
quot;wind quot; appears as an indication of God in the opening lines of the book of Genesis, and
can also represented when God breathes life into man. Another similarity between the Biblical
representation of God and this passage is shown through the thought of arms. Just as God acts in the
Bible by stretching out his right arm and commanding good or

The Pros And Cons Of Wild Horse Roundups
Imagine you are on a mountain and you turn around a notice a herd of wild horses grazing
happily, then all of a sudden you hear a low buzz in the distance. You notice that the wild horses
become agitated and start to descend into the valley of the mountain closely being followed by a
helicopter. You see the horses forced into holding pens and being separated from their bands
wondering why this is happening. Now try to imagine a word without the wild horses. Many
people consider wild horses to be a symbol of the west, and consider these wild horseroundups to be
unnecessary and cruel, while other people believe that wild horse roundups are necessary to
keep the condition of their natural landscape at its best quality. People argue that there are pros
and cons to wild horse roundups. Some pros that people state are that reduces the population of
wild horses, and that it improves the condition of the land that the wild horses graze on, while
other people argue that roundups kill many horses, horses are forced to separate from their herds
or bands as they are sometimes referred to as, and these roundups take horses out of their natural
habitats, and put into government holding facilities where there are more wild horses being held
captive than there are left in the wild. Now the question is are wild horse roundups truly the best
for control of the wild horse population and control of the environment, or is there... Show more

Wild horses were brought to the US by Spanish explorers and because they had no natural predators
their population expanded at an exponential amount. Roundups used to be done by men on
horseback, but now they are done with helicopters, men on horseback, and trucks. Roundups now
happen every few months and they have attracted the attention of news crews and many other
people who are against the wild horse

  • 2. Midlife Behavior Essay examples From the life course perspective, midlife behavior has both antecedents and consequences. Earlier life experiences can serve either as risk factors or as protective factors for the health and well being during this stage of development. According to the study Journey from Childhood to Midlife completed by Werner and Ruth Smith in 2001, by middle adulthood, most people have noted a balancing in their lives and improvement in overall quality of their lives. The period of early adulthood had provided positive turning points such as community college, marriage to a stable partner or military service. A contributing factor is relationships that provided emotional support as well. The presence of a nurturing caregiver from infancy, as well as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The two other theorists, Jung and Levinson held similar views. Karl Jung and Daniel Levinson theorized that middle adulthood was time for balancing a person s life much like Erikson. However, Jung sees as a time for discovery and reclaiming parts of the self that was repressed in the search for conformity in the first half of life. On the other hand, Daniel Levinson sees the life course more as a sequence of eras each with his own biopsychosocial character with major changes from one to the next. Levinson sees adulthood as fluctuating periods of relative stability and periods of transition. He viewed the developmental stage as balancing four opposing aspects of identity and to understand the life, and more importantly, the personality theory, developed by Carl Jung, it is important to note the time span in which he lived. Jung s insight shows the human need for a relationship. All three theorists felt relationships had an impact on human development and thus relationships in middle adulthood deserve further examination. Relationships play significant roles throughout the life course and this is especially true in middle adulthood. The relationships are the most diverse and many of them mature and evolve through the stages of development while others just begin to emerge. This is seen in infancy with the most significant relationship being their caregiver and in middle childhood it moves beyond ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He would wear pressed black suits and pants, with a vest, and underneath the suit, a white dress shirt was visible. On his head, a top hat was occasionally seen. When he was younger, around twenty years of age, facial hair was a constant for Earp. It started as a small moustache, and grew into a wavy horizontal pattern that remained fixed upon his face. His eyes were dark and he seemed to wear a scowl, any man that strolled by him could not help but notice his intense aura. Many people thought of him as the county sheriff; however he preferred the city marshal title. His attitude toward crime involved taking no chances, and he became known for cracking the long barrel of his Colt over the heads of offenders, a good solution to avoid a fatality, and for delivering the perpetrator into prison. Further, stepwise regression is also known to pick smaller models than desired~footnote{http:/ /www.biostat.jhsph.edu/~iruczins/teaching/jf/ch10.pdf}. The criteria used in the step wise variable selection process for this study was the Akaike information criterion (AIC). AIC estimates the quality of each model, relative to each of the other models by estimating the information lost when a model is used to represent the data. In doing so, it deals with the trade off between the goodness of fit of the model and the number of parameters used. When using the AIC criterion, the model with the least is the preferred model. After using the AIC selection process, any insignificant variables which were selected by step wise regression were manually removed from the model. There was also a need to consider the practicality of the model. Some highly significant variables resulted in coefficients that were very small for any practical use. For instance, if a variable resulted in a coefficient of $0.04$ then this coefficient would be $0.04 times$ the baseline hazard. This would consequently increase mortality by a factor of $e^{0.04}$ days; which is $~1.04 times$ baseline number of days. The resulting increase is very insignificant and could be ignored. We use it to arrange events, change our appearance to look as if time has had no effect on us, and attach it to special moments in our lives . Szymborska explores our relationship with time, and our aspiration to rebel against it, in her works Museum (30), Landscape (70 71), and The People On The Bridge (218 219) found in Poems New and Collected (Szymborska, 1998) by portraying time as an antagonist, showing how humans fight time, as well as their attempts to achieve immortality through detritus objects and art. (3) A museum is a place where works of art and various objects of cultural and historical significance are collected and displayed to help give a better understanding of the past. The poem Museum (30) speaks of various objects and their relationship to humans, and how they have outlived their human counterparts. The crown has outlasted the head. / The hand has lost out to the glove. / The right shoe has defeated the foot. (16) Although we ultimately accept that humans cannot defeat time, we can use these items as a means of achieving immortality. Szymborska offers a different perspective on how we try to influence and organize these detritus items through rhyme. Ire (5) and hour (6), celebrate, (11) and date (12) are all an emotion or a reference to time. These contrasts highlights the fact that time is out of our control. The specific references to numbers, a way we place emphasis on the significance of objects through time, are arbitrary. There are some three hundred years (3) or the ellipsis and line break emphasises the fact that Eight (11) is irrelevant, this human attempt at order is proven futile. Szymborska acknowledges that humans know we cannot physically preserve ourselves, we can t defeat time, so instead humans have preserved themselves through different objects, from plates, wedding rings, fans, swords, and lutes. In Museum, Szymborska defamiliarizes how we perceive the objects found in a museum, instead describe a place that preserves a collection of detritus items. • 24. Literary Works about Success In a world full of success gurus and books about success, it becomes ever so more important to describe the one quality that ultimately leads to success. This plague conquered the human minds and pushed us, till we came up with the ideas to sell success guiding books and making money which leads to successfulness. In the story, the house, in which Paul s family lives in, is personified to be standing for more money: And so the house came to be haunted by the unspoken phrase: There must be more money! There must be more money! The children could hear it all the time though nobody said it aloud. (151) . This is a symbolic element because it shows how much greed that house held, and how greed was driven by an addiction to money in each member of that house. There is never enough money for Paul s mother and the house is caught the bug of that overwhelming need. It is this insatiable need for money that leads to consequences in the end as we read in the story and lead to Paul s death. But Paul s death is just a small fraction of what is going on in the real world. Wars in the name of success were fought and driven humans to kill each other. A simple example is Napoleon; he conquered in the name of success. In other words, this communicates the theme of how money corrupts humanity. In the short story, The Rocking Horse Winner, there is a little boy who competed for his mother s love, and his mother brought her son to his death with her confusing vocabulary. ... Objectivity comes in degrees. Claims, methods and results can be more or less objective, and, other things being equal. The admiration of science among the general public and the authority science enjoys in public life stems to a large extent from the view that science is objective or at least more objective than other modes of inquiry. Within the domain of criminology, many theories have provided a foundation to stimulate the growth of this area of study. The beginning of criminology began with individual level theories; they focus on the perpetrator s individualistic features to answer the question of why crimeoccurs. Two major theories that divide the individual level theories are choice theoryand trait theory. Both contain various principles within their unit. Choice theory involves classical criminologywhile trait theory relates to biological, psychological, and sociological determinism. These theories use different approaches to explain why individuals commit crime. Before legal policies and penal codes were developed, crime and punishment could be described as barbaric. The first step away from such harsh system and irrational crime provoking causes was with the development of classical criminology. In 1764, a man soon to be named the father of modern criminology, Cesare Beccaria developed a criminal justice system proposal which focused on aiding the people instead of the crown (Adler et al., 2007). In the beginning, coal miningdid not seem to have many effects on the people or land; but, eventually people became very aware of the negative consequences that came from coalmining. People are now aware that coal miningin West Virginia was almost entirely detrimental to the environment as well as the community. Throughout West Virginia, everyone agreed there was a large amount of air pollution from coal mines. These air pollutants were so bad in the 1990s that the Clean Air Act was enacted. However, this act had unforeseen consequences of its own. Coal companies began to need much more readily available coal. So, they mined coal that was closer to the surface by using mountaintop removal. This resulted in a decrease in jobs for miners because this was a much easier and efficient way of removing coal. The Tipping Point By Malcolm Gladwell Many phenomena exist within the world; whether it be the butterfly effect, the small world theory, or even the laws of gravity, these entities shape reality. In the book The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell analyzes an effect he coins the tipping point . The tipping point essentially is the point at which small, seemingly insignificant changes become significant enough to cause a large and often times important change . Throughout the text of this novel, Gladwell explores this notion more in depth; he utilizes real world examples such as the re emergence of Hush Puppies, a popular footwear item, and dissects the epidemic of the syphilis outbreak in Baltimore, Maryland in order to achieve this purpose. The underlying principles in The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His ability to make relationships and acquire information made him the best person to take the role as initial adopter. The qualities of Paul Revere allowed him to initialize a complete cascade in his network of early American settlers during his Midnight Ride . The final connection between The Tipping Point and diffusion in relation to the Law of the Few deals with the importance of weak ties. Weak ties allow for information to be relayed across clusters of a network. Without the appearance of weak ties, diffusion would be rather difficult to accomplish. The prime example of an individual who possessed many weak ties goes by the name Roger Horchow. In The Tipping Point, Horchow is a master at creating relationships and bonds in areas of life in which he had no real expertise. Horchow had social connections in the arts, technology, agriculture, architecture, business, law, health care, and any other occupational field . Horchow and his social connections were edges in which information could be passed along seamlessly from one cluster to another, making the possibility of a complete cascade much more probable regarding diffusion. Besides the Law of the Few, Gladwell attributes the occurrence of a tipping point and its relation to diffusion with the Law of Stickiness as well. • 30. Kant And Kant s Universal Law Essay Does Kant successfully establish that one must never under any circumstances or for any purpose tell a lie? In this essay, I will argue that Immanuel Kant fails to successfully establish lying as morally impermissible because the claim that lying is morally impermissible goes against common sense. Kant defines his Universal Law to demonstrate the necessary action one must take in order to act in a way that is morally permissible and uses it in support of his belief that one s motive is the sole determinant of the moral worth of his actions. He uses the Universal Law Theorem to determine whether it should be morally permissible to lie in any occasion, and consistently reaches the conclusion that is it not (Kant Paton, 2005). However, let us consider an example situation: An elderly woman is awoken during the night to pounding on the door from a handful of children claiming to have just escaped the captivity of a pedophile in the neighbourhood. She immediately takes the children into her home, promising to keep them safe for the night. Before she has the chance to contact the authorities and their parents, she hears the sounds of a man raging outside, screaming about lost children. The woman answers the door calmly, claiming to have just been awoken and scolds the younger man for being so rowdy, sternly telling him she has not seen any children and encouraging him to return home before she contacts the authorities. An Description Of An Exact Dissipation Model For Arbitrary Referee Report: Manuscript ID# OL: 280139 PAPER DESCRIPTION In the paper titled An exact dissipation model for arbitrary photonic Fock state transport in waveguide QED systems , Chen et al. have presented a dissipation model to study the Fock and coherent state transport through waveguide QED (wQED) systems. As the main novelty of their work, they have modelled the environment as a 3D scattering channel (described in a real space picture similar to the waveguide modelling) and it has been shown that a reduced Hamiltonian can be obtained for arbitrary photon number Fock state which can describe the photonic transport with a restricted eigenstate. To illustrate, one , two , N photon and coherent state examples are presented. Finally, two simple geometries of the scattering channel are considered namely the uniform medium and a slab waveguide. Authors have also very briefly pointed out the applicability of their model in cavity QED. COMMENTS AND DECISION Overall the paper has interesting findings and is systematically presented. In particular, the modelling of the environment as a non excitable 3D scattering channel, is the key attraction in this work. Moreover, the authors have made claims which seems not to be exaggerated. However, there are some points in this work which can be ambiguous to the interested reader. Therefore, I can recommend publication of this paper in the Optics Letters, provided the authors performs the following revisions: QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are some differences between these two versions. First of all, the lyrics are different. Reading the background information, I know that the Marvelettes version features a womanwho hopes the postman to bring a letter from her boyfriend to her, since her boyfriend is away from her and at war. Reading the lyrics for just a card, or just a letter, saying he s returning home to me , I can see a woman staring at outside of the house with tears in her eyes, missing his man so much. On the contrary, Beatles version describe an opposite scene. They change boy to girl , and he to she . With these changes, Beatles version describes a man looking forward to hearing from his girlfriend. Second, the instrumentations in these two versions have some differences. Even though both versions have some instrumentations in common, Marvelettes version uses the piano and percussion. These two elements are not applied to Beatles version. Beatles have two guitars, lead guitar and rhythm guitar. Also, instead of using drums only, Beatles also uses cowbell. Another major difference on instrumentation is that Beatles applies handclapping at the beginning and at the end of the song, while Marvelettes do not use such element. ... The Rise Of The Pentecostalism Movement In this paper I will be discussing the rise of the Pentecostalism movement and briefly how it has changed the world through its rapid outspreading around the world. Most do not know the great impact that this movement had on the world. I hope to introduce this movement in this paper and why it is important to Church History. Roots of Pentecostalism Pentecostalism has its roots in Wesleyan notions of conversion and the higher life advocates. Both of these brought out a belief in a second experience that happened after salvation. They, John Wesley and John Fletcher, called this baptism in the Holy Spirit . It also has its origins in the evangelical faith healing movement that was lead by Charles C. Cullis. This movement focused on healing and the physical well being through miraculous acts. Another was the early church of Corinth and the Day of Pentecost. The Great Awakening was also apart of the beginning of this movement through its heartfelt salvation through Jesus Christ. The baptism of the Holy Ghost streamed out of England through John Wesley s thoughts on entire sanctification. Another group, Calvinist, who emphasized on a total transformation in their life after conversion. Through all these influences and divine healing led people to believe that this experience after conversion that was said to happen was through baptism of the Holy Ghost. In this metaphor, the Devil is shown through the person of Captain Ahab, God becomes nature, Jesus is seen as the White Whale, and the representation of mankind is the crew.
