Case Analysis Of Cloud Networking
Today, large corporations have employees in several locations around the world. It is imperative each
employee can access and update important information to provide the most up to date data to the rest
of the organization. Cloud hosting provides a path to ensure open communication channels for an
organization to adequately operate on the global scale. Crowd hosting allows the use of more than one
server to reduce downtimes in the case of a mechanical malfunction. An organization can sign a
services agreement with a cloud hosting vendor to secure access to the technology. As with any
purchase, business leaders must ensure the chosen vendor is the best option for the organization. For
the purposes of this decision, I have chosen to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
HostGator provides an alternative hosting opportunity for prospective organizations.
Founded in 2002, HostGator has been in the hosting industry for a long time. The company has
consistently grown since its humble beginnings, and now has offices in several countries around the
world in order to continually expand their customer base. Aimed primarily at the semi technical user,
Host Gator s flexibility is their strong suit (Frankel, 2017, para 3). This distinction allows more tech
savvy businesses to pick and choose desired features to ensure the final product is pleasing. HostGator
has near limitless options and control, however, they require a little more knowledge than beginner
focused web hosts (Frankel, 2017, para 4). HostGator has developed an outstanding reputation in the
hosting community for its performance. The company offers reliable services at competitive prices by
affording organizations the flexibility to choose the services needed instead of simply offering rigid
packages. HostGator boasts an extremely advanced datacenter to ensure redundancy in their server
network to prevent downtime. They have incorporated a level of redundancy that prevents single point
of failure in order to deliver services as advertised. While HostGator has a great reputation of
performance, it must perform well in key performance indicators (KPI) identified by prospective
clients to turn them into customers.

Essay on The Life Of The Dali Lama
The Dalai Lama s biography
His Holiness the 14th the Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso, is the head of state and spiritual leader of the
Tibetan people. He was born Lhamo Dhondrub on 6 July 1935, in a small village called Taktser in
northeastern Tibet. Born to a peasant family, His Holiness was recognized at the age of two, in
accordance with Tibetan tradition, as the reincarnation of his predecessor the 13th Dalai Lama, and
thus an incarnation Avalokitesvara, the Buddha of Compassion.
The Dalai Lamas are the manifestations of the Bodhisattva (Buddha) of Compassion, who chose to
reincarnate to serve the people. Lhamo Dhondrub was, as Dalai Lama, renamed Jetsun Jamphel

Some 80,000 Tibetan refugees followed His Holiness into exile. Today, there are more than 120,000

the seat of the Tibetan Government in exile.
In the early years of exile, His Holiness appealed to the United Nations on the question of Tibet,
resulting in three resolutions adopted by the General Assembly in 1959, 1961, and 1965, calling on
China to respect the human rights of Tibetans and their desire for self determination. With the newly
constituted Tibetan Government in exile, His Holiness saw that his immediate and urgent task was to
save the both the Tibetan exiles and their culture alike. Tibetan refugees were rehabilitated in
agricultural settlements. Economic development was promoted and the creation of a Tibetan
educational system was established to raise refugee children with full knowledge of their language,
history, religion and culture. The Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts was established in 1959, while
the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies became a university for Tibetans in India. Over 200
monasteries have been re established to preserve the vast corpus of Tibetan Buddhist teachings, the
essence of the Tibetan way of life.
In 1963, His Holiness promulgated a democratic constitution, based on Buddhist principles and the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a model for a future free Tibet.

Research Paper On Pronghorn
Once an upon a time, there were a group of cute creature living in the in Wyoming, called jackalope.
They are not simple animals of earth because they have magic, which make them different from the
surrounding. Oh you may ask how great is their magic? Well, it just can protect their safety for living

normal habit. However, if they touch the body of the pronghorn accidentally, they will come out in
one s true color without control with a pair of deer antlers on their heads. Fortunately, since the
carefulness of the jackalope, the chance for them to meet the pronghorn is quiet rare. For a very long

Doping Testing And Doping Tests
Doping dates back to ancient Greek where athletes took special diets to make themselves stronger. In
the 19th Century, substances such as caffeine, alcohol and cocaine were used to enhance performance
among long distance athletes. In 1904, for example, Thomas Hicks won the marathon by taking raw
eggs, doses of brandy administered during the race and injections of strychnine. By the year 1920s,
people realized that restrictions had to be created regarding the use of drugs in sports. In 1928, IAAF
was the first sports federation to ban doping fir the use of stimulating substances. In 1930, the problem
became worse because of the introduction of synthetic hormones, and the IAAF lacked the proper
equipment to detect doping of such kinds. By 1960, doping was a big issue because of the death of an
athlete Knud Jensen during the Olympics games in Mexico. An autopsy revealed the presence of
amphetamine a performance enhancement drug.
In 1966, FIFA and Cycling were the first sports to introduce doping tests in their world
championships. The International Olympics Committee followed suit the following year, and it tested
athletes in the 1968 Olympic Games. By the year 1999, the IOC convened the first World Conference
on Doping in Sports, which lead to the formation of the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) on
November of the same year. By 200, the fight against the use of EPO was ongoing and tests were
undertaken during the Sydney Olympics. Currently, more research is undertaken

Different Situations Where Skills By Social Workers Are...
This essay will be discussing two different situations where skills by social workers are needed when
working with groups. I will define the term group and will be reflecting on my own experiences of
working within groups and what I have observed in regards to individuals, behaviours and group
dynamics. My examples are drawn from two particular situations where I have been involved, which
include a multi professional meeting and residential home for children with disabilities. I will be
drawing on knowledge from K216 materials and other sources.
A definition of group according to the Oxford Dictionary of Social Work and Social Care (2013) is a
number of individuals with a shared sense of identity and/or who are bound together by interaction
with each other . Groups may be categorised into sub groups such as: social group, interest group,
family group or task group. People may be members of these different groups; however, their choice
of membership may be unavoidable, voluntary or limited. For example, attending school is
compulsory for young people and therefore the school group is regarded as a formal group . Whereas
they are at liberty to choose their friendship group within the school, therefore this is considered an
informal group (Adams, 1993, p.309 ).
The first group situation I will discuss is a multi professional meeting. The meeting was one I
observed which gave me the opportunity to identify group challenges and skills. The meeting was an

Michael Henchard Critical Lens Essay
The quote Proud people breed sad sorrows for themselves said by Emily Brontë describes Michael
Henchard in the book The Mayor of Casterbridge written by Thomas Hardy. Throughout Henchard s
life he makes mistake after mistake, only to blame others for his wrongdoing; but ends up only
causing more harm to himself. In the beginning of this story, he starts out as a young, immature
husband who s abusive and always drunk, but after one detrimental night, his life s turned upside
down. He moves to, and later becomes mayor of, the small town of Casterbridge where he spends
years trying to forget about his past, until his past shows up disguised as his wife and daughter he sold
to a stranger 20 years prior. Michael Henchard s pride has caused him ... Show more content on

Lucetta falls ill and dies, and now Farfrae and Elizabeth Jane are planning on getting married. Even
though Farfrae s now Henchard s enemy, he s willing to overlook his own emotions first, and put his
daughter s first. Henchard leaves town of their wedding day, but once Elizabeth Jane hears that he has
left, she immediately goes looking for him and finds him at a friends house, near death. Henchard
passes and his daughter takes his will, only to read that Elizabeth Jane Farfrae be not told of my death,
or made to grieve. (242) Hardy s use of diction here is important because Henchard says Elizabeth
Jane Farfrae which implies that he has learned to put his past rivalry with Farfrae aside and accept
their love. He also feels that he has caused enough pain in her life that she does not deserve any more.
He s somewhat guilty for all the things he has put her through. The will continues to say that no man
remembers me. and Hardy s use of tone signifies that Henchard s not doing this for pity, he s true in
his words (242). This is a huge change in Henchard s character because, previously, all he wanted was
to be accepted and thought highly of by everyone, and now he asks that no one remembers him. After
reading her father s will, Elizabeth Jane comes to the realization that he has truly had a change of heart
and that the man who wrote them [the words on the will] meant what he said. (243). Elizabeth Jane s
tone in this sentence suggest that she forgives him for all the pain he has caused her, and she s willing
to move forward. Through Henchard s acceptance of her marriage, he s truly a different person,
because before, he would have only thought of how the situation applied to him but now he s finally
thinking of other people. Henchard s cognizance allowed him to realize that his pride was doing
nothing but hurting his relationships with

Water Privatization Essay
Water is just as important as air, it is a basic need for life, ever since the beginning when one is
searching for life, water is the first thing to look for, without water there is no life. Everyone deserves
to have access to water.
Yet 1/8th of the worlds population doesn t have access to safe and clean drinking water. Most of these
people are from the developing parts of the world, this translates into 884 million people without safe
and clean drinking water, thats equivalent to the size of north and south America. Over the course of
the year 1.5 million people die each year from water related causes. Poor countries have been told that

However, when the company took over their local wells and informal pumps as well as the system
infrastructure, many consumers were priced out of the market, unable to pay the increased water rates,
which in some case had doubled. To further develop this, the world bank forced Cochabamba and El
Alto s water to be privatised because they said if they didn t, they will cut off Bolivia s water
development loans completely. This explains that once water services are privatised, very little can be
done to ensure that the company will work in the best interest of the
community. Furthermore, if a community is dissatisfied with the performance of the company,
buying back the water rights is a very difficult and costly proposition. Again the prime directive of the
water companies is to minimise profits, not to protect consumers
Water privatisation can also have good affects on the developing parts of the world. This is because in
developing countries their public water facilities and infrastructures are not up to date, damaged
and/or not working properly. By privatising water in these underdeveloped regions, this will ensure
that their water facilities are running adequately because people are paying for it. It will also create
revenue through taxes for the government.
However, around 40% of people in the developing world are living in poverty, they are unable to
afford basic necessities as it is, by

The Five Stages Of Industrialization In The United States
It is extremely fascinating how cities evolved over time. Especially here in the United States since a
great hand full have been industrialized and as a result, some cities became very popular. The
industrial revolution gave cities the opportunities to expand in manufactures. Thus, factories began to
be developed and as a result, it provided civilians with job opportunities. As the years progressed,
cities expanded in two different methods. One method in how it expanded was by the Concentric Zone
Theory. According to Burgess, cities that in this zone expand outward in form of rings. Burgess states
that the closest zones to the origin are zone that is made up of labor workers and immigrants. In
contrast to zone located furthest from the origin. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Walt Rostow established The Stages of Economic Growth that cities go through to get to modernity.
Rostow states that all societies will eventually be industrialized in just five stages (Fong 2016). The
first stage of modernization begins with the traditional society. In addition to the cities in Mexico,
there are small villages that are near and far from the city. Some of these villages still practice the first
stages of modernity through agricultural. Subsequently, as villages began to grow, they expand their
development of goods through the pre conditions to the take off stages. In this stage, goods will be
manufacture out of raw material then traded for other goods. When a city is large enough it goes
through innovation. The city acquires entertainment, several transportation methods, hospitality
services etc. these types of characteristics attract tourist. (CITE DR. FONG?) Mexico city has this
characteristic; sources of entertainment, transportation methods and hospitality services. This is what
is known as the drive to maturity stage. This is the stage that that attracts tourist due to its modernity.
Lastly, a city reaches the final stage of high mass consumption. Mexico city has reached this stage
because there is any form of consumption located throughout the city. Whether it is automotive,
electronics etc, it gives civilians the opportunity to be high consumers. (CITY DR

The Success of Judaism Essay
Judaism has survived throughout history by being flexible and by admitting foreign influences into its
practice. Its success in the 21st century depends on its ability to continue doing this in response to the
pressures of modernity.
Judaism has endured the challenges imposed upon it, by its ability to preserve deep rooted traditions
of the past. It is through maintaining customs from preceding times that defines the foundations of
modern day Jewish practice, be it through observance, prayer or habit. In combination to this, its
capacity to be versatile and incorporate outside influence has served to maintain its popularity as a
major world faith. In order to continue its future religious success, Judaism must persist upholding the

It is through the participation of such traditions that identifies Jewish practice.
Judaism has continued to exist through the desire to maintain tradition through historical descent. As
Jacob Neusner states, the Judaic religious tradition is shaped by the historical life of the Jewish people
therefore indicating how elements of Jewish historical significance have acted in forming and
strengthening an attachment to the faith. This is evident when referring to various periods such as the
destruction of the second Temple and the Holocaust. The destruction of the Temple led Jews to
consolidate their beliefs through the emergence of Rabbinic Judaism and the tragedy of the Holocaust
has stood for and continues to stand for an attachment to the faith. Poll after poll of American Jews in
the 1990s found that the Holocaust surpassed Israel, Judaism, or any other factor as the basis of the
Jewish Identity. Such moments of historical significance represent an increased strength of faith in
times of adversity.
In combination to the preservation of tradition to explain the survival of the faith, it is also evident that
its continuing presence is determined through its ability to subject itself to change through time. This
is evident through the emergence of various strands of Judaism that emerged after Jews were
emancipated in Europe. As revealed through the surfacing of Reform Judaism with its popularity, in
nineteenth century Germany, the religion has survived through

Reverse Discrimination In The United States
Lately the United States media has been focused on the unfair treatment many people receive based on
their skin tone, whether it is the recent police brutality against African Americans or the focuses the
2018 presidential election has put on illegal immigration. Unfortunately the media has avidly avoided
any subject that may be considered reverse discrimination also known as reverse racism. Reverse
discrimination is a phenomenon in which members of majority groups receive unfair treatment in
attempt to remedy earlier discrimination against minorities. Many people believe that reverse
discrimination is becoming more prevalent part of modern society, by creating equal opportunity s this
issue can be easily reduced.
Reverse discrimination has become a joke with in many minority communities, approximately seven
in ten black (74%) and Hispanic Americans (70%) do not believe discrimination against whites is as
big of a problem as discrimination against other groups (Public Religion Research Institute 38). This

Dudley Vs Stephens
1. Dudley and Stephens should be tried for murder. For one, the country they were tried in stated in
law that Any person who deliberately takes the life of another is guilty of murder. In addition, the
killing was indeed intentional. According to Dudley and Stephen, they as well as the now deceased
Brooks, drew lots to determine who would be killed and then eaten. Brooks who was at the time the
weakest drew and lost. However, Brooks then took back the notion of the loser being eaten and
refused to oblige. Dudley and Stephen on the other hand didn t care and eat him anywhere. This is

with the killing of their shipmate Brooks when he begged for his life to be spared! You can t deny this

years or life in prison. The murder of Brooks was no accident because it was premeditated. Despite the
malnutrition as a factor Brooks was still sane and refused to be eaten but the other two ignored this
without a second thought. By convicting Dudley and Stephen it will show that the law of the country
is absolute. It will also decrease the chances of someone appealing because They were mentally ill
during the time of the killing.
4. In this case law and morality are intertwined. The law says that it is wrong to kill someone but
morals dictate that their was no other way unless the murder happened. One may argue that Dudley
and Stephen were not in the wrong or vice versa. In my eyes though the pair was in the wrong. They
killed and eat someone who wanted to live despite his I ll state. Now, if Brooks had lost and sacrificed
his body as a meal then that would be a different story. It still would be a murder but all three
members agreed to it. This scenario did not occur and so the pair of Dudley and Stephen are morally
wrong for committing

Quotes From Touching Spirit Bear
In the novel Touching Spirit Bear, by Ben Mikaelsen, a boy named Cole Matthews has a big problem.
After several crimes, Cole gets in trouble and ends up in jail. Since he does not want to face a lot of
jail time, he decides to join Circle Justice. Circle Justice requires Cole to want to change. However,
Cole Matthews instead avoids responsibility and accuses someone else for everything that happens to
him. His responses are pernicious to himself, and he needs to learn to have the courage to honestly
examine his behaviors. Throughout Chapters 1 10, there are several examples of Cole blaming others
for things he did. First of all, in Chapter 2, pages 22 23, there are several pieces of evidence that show
how Cole reacts to his circumstances. The text says, Somebody would pay for this after Cole must

know what I did was wrong, and I want Peter to know I m sorry for everything. Later, the text says it
wasn t like he had meant to hurt anyone. Besides, this wouldn t have happened if Peter had kept his
mouth shut. This reveals that Cole does not take accountability for his actions, and instead blames
Peter for getting in trouble after Cole robbed a hardware store. This is harming Cole because it is
slowing down his healing process. By blaming his fate on others, he grows deeper and deeper into the

This poem was written by American poet, Emily Dickinson, who was born in the 1800. This was the
period where art was based on emotion; the Romantic Period . She was also born in the Victorian Era,
where women had to be shackled to their pedestals and most had to be married by age eighteen. They
were not allowed to vote, or earn money. This information should help the reader better understand the
poem. When writing the poem My Life had stood a Loaded Gun Dickinson thought of what format to
use to express her emotions; Quatrain (four verses). This format is used to express deep emotions at

The Problem Of Community College Students
I, like many new LaGuardia students, would walk around campus with my head down in
disappointment with myself. Every time somebody asked where I went to school I would cringe and
respond softly LaGuardia Community College and would get a response like oh that s good as if to
spare my feelings. Unfortunately, LaGuardia like many other community colleges nationwide have a
negative connotation associated with them because they are the institutions that accept those students
that did not make it to other private or public universities. Or those students that were hit the hardest
with life. It would be wrong to not point out the socioeconomic disparity of those who attend schools
like LaGuardia where 61.8% of students who live with their families have a family income of under
$25,000 a year. I fall under this demographic and am also an underrepresented minority as a Latino of
Colombian background. This is the story of how I let my curiosity lead me to success and how I let go
of the misconception that community college students were unable to achieve.
When I enrolled in LaGuardia I was 2 years removed from high school and had no clear academic
direction. I signed up for one of the first semester cluster courses that were centered around a topic
that I found genuinely interesting called Globalization: You and The World. That was my first great
decision because I was met with an abundance of great professors and peers. The cluster course

From Their Earliest Beginnings, Railroads Have Played An
From their earliest beginnings, railroads have played an extremely vital role in shaping America; its
society, its culture, and its destiny. Taking inspiration from the first railroads of Britain, American
businessmen soon channeled the vast majority of their wealth and efforts into promoting the
development of railways in the United States. And with its truly immense territory, growing
population, and trailblazing spirit, America soon embraced the idea of a railroad that would connect
the Pacific to the Atlantic which would allow for a greater flow of goods from east to west, shorter
travel times, and a goal towards its manifest destiny.

Whitney, a Chinese goods merchant who was obsessed with the transcontinental railroad thanked
Congress for eliminating infernal ocean commutes. However, on May 15, after hundreds of thousand
of dollars in patchwork, regular passenger service was opened for business. Travelers could make the
trip between San Francisco and New York in a week. The coasts were connected; and the world as
Americans knew it had grown gradually smaller. The transformation achieved in intercontinental trade
was substantial. Within ten years of its completion, the railroad shipped $50 million worth of goods
coast to coast every year. Just as it opened the markets of the west coast and Asia to the east, it brought
products of eastern industry to the growing populace beyond the Mississippi. The railroad ensured a
production boom, after the railroad was completed, people had better access to mineral resources and
more pay ores like gold, silver, and platinum were discovered as a result. Mining towns sprang up in
many areas, populating areas that have never been settled. This essentially made the transcontinental

too did it promote evolution of the nation s public discourse and intellectual life. Americans could

The Dream Of The Rood
The Dream of the Rood is by an unknown, Anglo Saxon, author. This ancient poem is about Jesus
being crucified through the cross point of view. Although this poem is about Jesus death, it does not
exactly match up with what the Bible has depicted in the Gospels of the New Testament. There is a
culture clash between the Anglo Saxon culture and beliefs and what the Bible thinks of Jesus during
his crucifixion. In this poem the author expresses Christ as strong, heroic, and bold, but the Bible
states that he was humble, passive, and weak. Contrary to what the Bible says, The Dream of the Rood
proclaims that Christ felt no pain, the cross did. These are only a few examples of the differences
between the Bible s take on this story versus the unknown author. This piece of literature is so highly
regarded, even today, because of the culture clash it displays. The story of the crucifixion of Jesus
Christ had only been written down in the Bible. To see this story being transformed into how a newer
culture interpreted the story had never been heard of up until this point in history. This shows how
time and different cultures can change stories and belief systems. ... Show more content on

Immanuel Kant And Karl Marx
In an effort to understand progress and its goal in humanity, philosophers Immanuel Kant and Karl
Marx each present their theories with Kant believing progress is made through the reform brought on
by antagonism and social instability in humanity which will ultimately lead to perpetual peace, while
Marx argues progress comes in the form of a worker s revolution and the adoption of true communism
that will lead to utopia. These German thinkers seek to define the guiding the force beneath humanity
s constant state of evolution to understand where it is headed and advise towards a goal they find ideal
for humanity.
Through an analysis of human characteristics, Immanuel Kant concludes progress is driven by
humanity s innate behavior of contempt for one another, which he refers to as antagonism. In Kant s
essay On Universal History , his fourth thesis states, The means employed by Nature to bring about
the development of all the capacities of men is their antagonism in society, so far as this is, in the end,
the cause of a lawful order among men. By this, Kant means that man finds himself in mutual
opposition with his peers, but this opposition, as deemed by nature, is the force driving mankind s

The Dark Knight Analysis
The Dark Knight is a superhero movie and is part of a sequel. It comes second after Batman Begins. It
is a fantastic movie directed by Christopher Nolan. The main Theme of this movie is Faith. The plot
and Characters develop this theme in a few ways. When the film opens up we have a bank robbery
scene in the city of gotham and we encounter the joker, our antagonist. Because of this we see a chain
of crimes happening around the city and the people of Gotham turn their faith toward the Batman.
This is the basic plot of the film where the protagonists are trying to restore people s faith back into
the city and the police force. The characters develop this theme by carrying out the plot of the film and
helping restore faith back into the city. The visual design plays a big role in developing the film s
theme. A majority of the time the films color is dark and the colors palate that is used is to the darker
side. The setting of this movie is determiner of character because it takes place in a setting that
Batman doesn t have too much control over and he is working to protect that and survive in that place.
We also see a setting for sheer visual impact at times such as when we see a deep focus camera shot of
the entire city and see how much chaos is going on and what the protagonists are trying to do to
restore faith back into the city. The functions of the setting in this film also have symbolic significance
to the theme and it impacts it very much. We mostly see this in the

Analysis Of Cushing s Syndrome ( Cs )
Cushing s syndrome (CS) is a condition whereby there is an excessive amount of glucocorticoids
circulating in the human body1. There are two categories of CS, the most common type is exogenous,
which is caused by supraphysiological amounts of glucocorticoids from an external source1. The
second type is the endogenous CS and is caused by the endogenous over secretion of glucocorticoids
by the adrenal glands2. The incidence of any form of CS has been reported to affect between 2 3
million population per year3, with a higher incidence in women over men4 5. CS is uncommon in
children but if it does occur, it commonly presents with growth retardation and weight gain after
puberty5. When an individual suffers from CS it causes a continuous ... Show more content on

As shown in Table 1 Cushing s Disease is the most common cause of CS. This disease most
commonly develops due to an ACTH producing pituitary tumor9. The increase in ACTH production
leads to an increased ACTH concentration in plasma causing bilateral adrenocortical hyperplasia and
hypersecretion of cortisol from the adrenal cortex. Due to the feedback mechanism as shown in Figure
1 a chronic increase in cortisol leads to the suppression of CRH and ACTH secretion.
The second major corticotropin dependent cause of CS is called ectopic corticotropin syndrome (Table
I) and is caused most commonly from a pulmonary carcinoma however can be from other tumors and
carcinomas such as bronchial carcinoma. These carcinomas produce ACTH in an abnormal place, this
increase in plasma ACTH causes bilateral adrenocortical hyperplasia and increased cortisol secretion,
and once again high cortisol levels lead to a suppression of the HPA feedback loop9. This cause
creates a more rapid and severe increased cortisol state.
The third and final corticotropin dependent cause is similar to the above mechanism however is
simply due to an increased secretion of CRH instead, this can be from any nonhypothalamic tumor
secreting CRH. This mechanism therefor stimulates hyperplasia of

The Hazards of Space Travel for the Human Body
In the year 2042, aerospace engineers continue to struggle with the challenge of a manned mission to
mars. Biomedical complications disrupt any advancements in the effort, as astronaut safety is
considered the most fundamental aspect of a successful mission. In order to study the effects of
weightlessness and radiation in a deep space environment, NASA launches a government funded
space station into high earth orbit. The astronaut s medical health is studied over a six month period,
as their bodies adapt to the low gravity environment and radiation becomes a crucial concern.

As an organism in a hostile environment, precautions must be made.
An astronaut must maintain peak physical health to ideally preform and adapt to a space environment.
In order to minimize the extent of medical concerns, strict medical standards are established to
guarantee the correct crew for the mission. Designed by surgeons and experts in aerospace medicine,
the regulations mirrored those of the U.S Air force. Extensive consideration is taken in the categories
of blood pressure, radiation exposure, hearing, dental health, and precise body composition. Annual
medical certification examinations are conducted by flight medicine physicians. These exams insure
that the crew is not only fit for space flight, but also for training. Crew members are given a
supporting exam at launch, as well as two days after landing (Risin). The information found in these
last minute exams is used to analyze the effects of space travel on the astronauts.
Only 7 missions in American history included biomedical objectives as a goal amongst each
operations highest priorities. As of May 1961 to May 1963, Project Mercury was conducted to assess
the ability for man to survive in an environment outside of earth. The endeavor completed four orbital
missions and two sub orbital flights, the longest of which lasted 34 hours. Although the returning

The Issue Of Muslim Women
One of the biggest anomalies among current events today is the topic of Muslim women. Islamic
women have been in the shadows for years, hidden by their spouses, therefore resulting in the reason
why so many of them have been the subject of abuse. The devastating incident that led to many deaths
on September 11th of 2001, could possibly be the most recent event that has sparked interest with the
Muslim population (Daba Buzoianu et.al 148). Even then, however, Americans were more concerned
for their own safety rather than the safety of Muslim women. In the past, these women have had a
history of abuse as a result of their disobedience and unfaithfulness to their religion. For example, in
Pakistan, ...men, soldiers, and civilians have used rape as a strategy of terrorism against Pakistan s
women, particularly those who dare to transgress existing social hierarchies or who belong to
stigmatized social groups (Sharlach 95). Two of the most recent victims of authoritative Muslims that
have managed to get their stories heard have been Mukhtaran Mai and Malala Yousafzai. Mai was
raped as a result of her brother s crimes and Yousafzai was shot by the Taliban as a result of merely
wanting an education (Afzal Khan 153). Although it seems that free will is an option for these women,
few are brave enough to let their own opinions on issues concerning their lives surpass the demands of
their religious leaders, who can possibly even be considered their masters. Women of this culture are

The Death Of Ivan Ilyich
Societal Pressure in The Death of Ivan Ilyich According to C.Joybell C, The unhappiest people in this
world are those who care the most about what other people think (Goodreads). I can see this in my life
and also in Leo Tolstoy s The Death of Ivan Ilyich. The main character Ivan Ilyich is dying from and
unknown disease and while suffering finds himself reflecting on his life choices. Ivan consistently
questions himself in the text, such as in his statement What if my life has all been wrong? (775). He
struggles with the idea that his life might have been a waste and that he really did not get to live. Ivan
has always made decisions based off of society s rules and not his own. In fact, he directly quotes this
in the text, It occurred to him that his scarcely perceptible attempts to struggle against what was
considered good by the most highly placed people, those scarcely noticeable impulses which he had
immediately suppressed, might have been the real thing, and all the rest false (776). Ivan Ilyich was
never a man who thought for himself or let alone went off impulse. He always thought about what
people around him would do or think about his decisions. Tolstoy s shows in this novel what can
happen when you live life by your own rules and what can happen when you live by societies rules
such as Ivan Ilyich. He shows that both choices come with major consequences. In this story Ivan
Ilyich had two brothers one older and one younger. The older

The two speeches that were discussed in Germany about the berlin wall are similar but also different

Robert Kintner replaced Weaver as NBC president in 1955 his strategies were intended to move NBC
out of its growth phase and into a new phase of maturation, stabilization and profitability. His four
fold strategy included a switch from live programs to telefilm (which made syndication and
exportation possible), meat and potatoes scheduling ( nothing extravagant, just regular series meant to
promote habitual viewing), licensing of outside suppliers to decrease costs and their inherent risks,
and using news as a bridge to primetime in order to promote audience flow. Based on each president s
very different programming strategies, it is easy to decipher which programs belong in which
programming strategy category. For example, Today (1952 ), fits under Weaver s strategy because it
was part of his in house THT programming strategy which employed daily format, along with Home
and The Tonight Show, so advertisers could buy set segments at lower costs, as well as encouraged
viewing in every major block of the day and appealing to a wide range of audiences and encourage

1.3 FACTORS OF PRODUCTION
Production process is an end to end activity which means that there is a relational pedagogy between
input and output. Factors of production also known as productive inputs are the resources employed to
produce goods and services, thus it constitutes the input part of the production process. Factors of
production involve in the production process and improves the working of the process but do not form
the ultimate part of the product. Factors of production can be broadly classified as: 1. Land 2. Labour
3. Capital 4. Entrepreneurship
1.3.1 Land
In economics, land includes all natural resources which are free gift of nature. Thus, by land
economists do not mean only agricultural soil, but also other natural resources such as minerals, water,
climate and forests. Payment for use of land per period is called Rent.
Land as factor of production implies the ground used to built and start the production moreover it
serves as a pool of various minerals and valuable natural resources which facilitates the human
mankind. Land is a fixed factor of production and thus it is not possible to increase. Land helps to
facilitate the production only if the efficient workforce is used to generate the maximum output out of
the limited resource. This means optimum utilisation of resources.
1.3.2 Labour
Labour represents all physical and mental abilities which people can make available for production of

Theme Of Accident In Grendel
There are many explanations about why the world and everything function the way they do. People
come up with different answers because of their different beliefs. However, for a period of time,
fatalism was widely accepted, and it began to enter the realm of literature. In the novel Grendel, John
Gardner employs the motifs accident, mechanism, and time to demonstrate that fate controls all
creatures destiny.
John Gardner explicitly conveys the motif accident to indicate that fate controls all creatures destiny.
In the last chapter of Grendel, the major difference between Beowulf and Grendel appears at where
Grendel totally attribute his failure in battle to accident (169). Grendel thinks that Beowulf is just a
human, and he can beat Beowulf or at least flee away. But Grendel still loses in the battle due to an
accident that he slips on a puddle of blood. Grendel expresses his word to Beowulf or fate with a sense
of irony. He could get away from this situation, but an accident happened and it brings everything
back to the predestined path which predicts that Grendel will lose and die. Accident is a thing that is
not planed or out of expectation which is supposed to lead Grendel out of the control of fate, but it
ironically traps Grendel in the story. Further, John Gardner mention accident in Grendel s last few
words which says that Poor Grendel s had an accident, (so) may you all (174). These words to the
animal and also to the readers can be either taken as a curse or

Ethical Difficulty Between Diversity And Extrinsic Values
Inherently, there exists an ethical difficulty in appraising an intrinsic value, for these values are often
abstract and intangible. Typical extrinsic appraisals often look at condition or rarity to determine a
value, however, intrinsic values can be priceless. Although some intrinsic values such as happiness or
love are qualitative, the value of diversity is purely quantitative. It is fundamental to understand how
the value of diversity clearly increases positively, where greater diversity is always equated with a
greater intrinsic value.
When applied to ecosystems, the level of species diversity is most frequently measured as an indicator
of the ecosystem value. For example, a desert may only contain tens of species, yet a sub tropical

The Importance Of Culture On The Culture Of Nepal
Pre interation
Nepal is known to be a multi religious country with religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Muslim,
Christianity and other religions found there. However, 80 percent of the population of Nepal practices
Hinduism. Which leads me to believe that the Hinduism has to have a great impact on the culture of
Nepal. Hinduism is a male dominated religion and women often play a secondary role. There are
many restrictive conditions that a Nepali Hindu woman has to live by. However, there is
overwhelming respect for women because they considered gifts from the gods and aspects of pure
energy. Hindus believe in the idea of karma and rebirth, the idea that each is reincarnated so that the
soul can be purified.

Upon getting this assignment I immediately thought of doing it on Nepal s culture. I had been
intrigued each time my co worker, Aastha, would share her stories about her home. I presumed this

between Nepali and Haitian culture in the sense that both could be viewed as having stricter values
than the western culture that most of us is familiar with. But more importantly the way that religion is
embedded within the culture is the most comparable. I believe that s where the similarities ended and
the differences began. Upon asking Aastha if she would be interested in being interviewed she
immediately began to plan what we could discussed. She almost took over

Running head: BODY ART AND ORNAMENTATION
Body Art and Ornamentation in Different Cultures
Introduction to Cultural Anthropology ANT101
July 28, 2013
There is no culture in which people do not, or did not paint, pierce, tattoo, reshape, or simply adorn
their bodies (Schildkrout, 2001). Throughout history, body art and ornamentation has become a
worldwide phenomenon and has played a key role in our lives, yet there is a social stigma which we
cannot seem to rid ourselves of. It is most commonly misunderstood and misinterpreted which can be
attributed to the fact that the symbolism and significance of the body art and/or ornamentation doesn t
always translate the same among the cultures. Although Western culture views body art ... Show more

Looking from another culture s perspective, the various forms of African body art and ornamentation
are seen as being weird, out of the ordinary, and we don t understand the importance they hold within
these African cultures. On the other hand, there are other cultures such as the Japanese, who instead of
outwardly portraying their body art and ornamentation will instead conceal it so it won t be visible at
all. The first signs of body art and ornamentation which appear in the Japanese culture were first noted
as originating all the way back to AD 297 (Rapp, 2010). Back then, tattoos would signify which
occupational group certain men belonged to and men, both young and old, would get tattoos all over
their bodies including their faces. Men would even go as far as getting full body tattoos which could
be found on laborers, firemen, and gangsters (Hopkins Tanne, 2000). The Chinese considered all
Japanese tattoos an act of barbarism and was perceived as being extremely negative. The body art and
ornamentation that exists and has existed within the Japanese culture spreads beyond just tattooing
and there are a few other methods that they used.
First, many married Japanese women or courtesan in the 10th through 19th centuries would apply a
paste to their teeth which would blacken them (Schildkrout, 2001). This was considered as being

`` Mexicans Begin Jogging `` And Small Town With One Road
Authors write what they know. A well written piece is based on experience and what is familiar to the
author. This is certainly the case for Gary Soto, a Mexican American poet. Soto has written many
poems and continues to do so today. Soto s poems discuss personal themes from his life like
experiencing racism and navigating stereotypes. These are themes that are evident in two of Soto s
poems, Mexicans Begin Jogging and Small Town with one Road. Both poems have a deep connection
to his life. Soto, a Mexican American man, grew up with a lot of negative experiences. His youth is
expressed in his poems where he shares past struggles in hopes of ending racism.
Gary Soto was born on the 12th of April, in 1952. He grew up in Fresno, California right across the
street from a pickle factory. Unfortunately for Soto, his parents were Mexican American laborers, and
his father was killed in an industrial accident when Soto was five (Biography in Context). This
tragedy, in combination with the fact that his parents were immigrants, greatly affected his childhood
and made it more difficult than it should have been. Soto struggled in school and had difficulty
applying himself to his studies. Despite his poor grades, it did not take too long for Gary Soto s
writing skills to become evident. As he grew older and attended high school, Soto was awarded the
Academy of American Poets Award along with the Discovery Nation Award. In fact, he won an award

It is imperative each employee can access and update important information to provide the most up to date data to the rest of the organization. Cloud hosting provides a path to ensure open communication channels for an organization to adequately operate on the global scale. Crowd hosting allows the use of more than one server to reduce downtimes in the case of a mechanical malfunction. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... HostGator provides an alternative hosting opportunity for prospective organizations. Founded in 2002, HostGator has been in the hosting industry for a long time. The company has consistently grown since its humble beginnings, and now has offices in several countries around the world in order to continually expand their customer base. Aimed primarily at the semi technical user, Host Gator s flexibility is their strong suit (Frankel, 2017, para 3). This distinction allows more tech savvy businesses to pick and choose desired features to ensure the final product is pleasing. HostGator has near limitless options and control, however, they require a little more knowledge than beginner focused web hosts (Frankel, 2017, para 4). HostGator has developed an outstanding reputation in the hosting community for its performance. The company offers reliable services at competitive prices by affording organizations the flexibility to choose the services needed instead of simply offering rigid packages. HostGator boasts an extremely advanced datacenter to ensure redundancy in their server network to prevent downtime. • 3. Essay on The Life Of The Dali Lama The Dalai Lama s biography His Holiness the 14th the Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso, is the head of state and spiritual leader of the Tibetan people. He was born Lhamo Dhondrub on 6 July 1935, in a small village called Taktser in northeastern Tibet. Born to a peasant family, His Holiness was recognized at the age of two, in accordance with Tibetan tradition, as the reincarnation of his predecessor the 13th Dalai Lama, and thus an incarnation Avalokitesvara, the Buddha of Compassion. The Dalai Lamas are the manifestations of the Bodhisattva (Buddha) of Compassion, who chose to reincarnate to serve the people. Some 80,000 Tibetan refugees followed His Holiness into exile. Today, there are more than 120,000 Tibetan in exile. Since 1960, he has resided in Dharamsala, India, known as quot;Little Lhasa, quot; the seat of the Tibetan Government in exile. In the early years of exile, His Holiness appealed to the United Nations on the question of Tibet, resulting in three resolutions adopted by the General Assembly in 1959, 1961, and 1965, calling on China to respect the human rights of Tibetans and their desire for self determination. With the newly constituted Tibetan Government in exile, His Holiness saw that his immediate and urgent task was to save the both the Tibetan exiles and their culture alike. Tibetan refugees were rehabilitated in agricultural settlements. Economic development was promoted and the creation of a Tibetan educational system was established to raise refugee children with full knowledge of their language, history, religion and culture. The Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts was established in 1959, while the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies became a university for Tibetans in India. Over 200 monasteries have been re established to preserve the vast corpus of Tibetan Buddhist teachings, the essence of the Tibetan way of life. In 1963, His Holiness promulgated a democratic constitution, based on Buddhist principles and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a model for a future free Tibet. ... • 5. Doping Testing And Doping Tests Doping dates back to ancient Greek where athletes took special diets to make themselves stronger. In the 19th Century, substances such as caffeine, alcohol and cocaine were used to enhance performance among long distance athletes. In 1904, for example, Thomas Hicks won the marathon by taking raw eggs, doses of brandy administered during the race and injections of strychnine. By the year 1920s, people realized that restrictions had to be created regarding the use of drugs in sports. In 1928, IAAF was the first sports federation to ban doping fir the use of stimulating substances. In 1930, the problem became worse because of the introduction of synthetic hormones, and the IAAF lacked the proper equipment to detect doping of such kinds. By 1960, doping was a big issue because of the death of an athlete Knud Jensen during the Olympics games in Mexico. An autopsy revealed the presence of amphetamine a performance enhancement drug. In 1966, FIFA and Cycling were the first sports to introduce doping tests in their world championships. The International Olympics Committee followed suit the following year, and it tested athletes in the 1968 Olympic Games. By the year 1999, the IOC convened the first World Conference on Doping in Sports, which lead to the formation of the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) on November of the same year. By 200, the fight against the use of EPO was ongoing and tests were undertaken during the Sydney Olympics. Currently, more research is undertaken ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will define the term group and will be reflecting on my own experiences of working within groups and what I have observed in regards to individuals, behaviours and group dynamics. My examples are drawn from two particular situations where I have been involved, which include a multi professional meeting and residential home for children with disabilities. I will be drawing on knowledge from K216 materials and other sources. A definition of group according to the Oxford Dictionary of Social Work and Social Care (2013) is a number of individuals with a shared sense of identity and/or who are bound together by interaction with each other . Groups may be categorised into sub groups such as: social group, interest group, family group or task group. People may be members of these different groups; however, their choice of membership may be unavoidable, voluntary or limited. For example, attending school is compulsory for young people and therefore the school group is regarded as a formal group . Whereas they are at liberty to choose their friendship group within the school, therefore this is considered an informal group (Adams, 1993, p.309 ). The first group situation I will discuss is a multi professional meeting. The meeting was one I observed which gave me the opportunity to identify group challenges and skills. The meeting was an Adoption ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Henchard passes and his daughter takes his will, only to read that Elizabeth Jane Farfrae be not told of my death, or made to grieve. (242) Hardy s use of diction here is important because Henchard says Elizabeth Jane Farfrae which implies that he has learned to put his past rivalry with Farfrae aside and accept their love. He also feels that he has caused enough pain in her life that she does not deserve any more. He s somewhat guilty for all the things he has put her through. The will continues to say that no man remembers me. and Hardy s use of tone signifies that Henchard s not doing this for pity, he s true in his words (242). This is a huge change in Henchard s character because, previously, all he wanted was to be accepted and thought highly of by everyone, and now he asks that no one remembers him. After reading her father s will, Elizabeth Jane comes to the realization that he has truly had a change of heart and that the man who wrote them [the words on the will] meant what he said. (243). Elizabeth Jane s tone in this sentence suggest that she forgives him for all the pain he has caused her, and she s willing to move forward. Through Henchard s acceptance of her marriage, he s truly a different person, because before, he would have only thought of how the situation applied to him but now he s finally thinking of other people. Water Privatization Essay Water is just as important as air, it is a basic need for life, ever since the beginning when one is searching for life, water is the first thing to look for, without water there is no life. Everyone deserves to have access to water. Yet 1/8th of the worlds population doesn t have access to safe and clean drinking water. Most of these people are from the developing parts of the world, this translates into 884 million people without safe and clean drinking water, thats equivalent to the size of north and south America. However, when the company took over their local wells and informal pumps as well as the system infrastructure, many consumers were priced out of the market, unable to pay the increased water rates, which in some case had doubled. To further develop this, the world bank forced Cochabamba and El Alto s water to be privatised because they said if they didn t, they will cut off Bolivia s water development loans completely. This explains that once water services are privatised, very little can be done to ensure that the company will work in the best interest of the community. Furthermore, if a community is dissatisfied with the performance of the company, buying back the water rights is a very difficult and costly proposition. Again the prime directive of the water companies is to minimise profits, not to protect consumers Water privatisation can also have good affects on the developing parts of the world. This is because in developing countries their public water facilities and infrastructures are not up to date, damaged and/or not working properly. By privatising water in these underdeveloped regions, this will ensure that their water facilities are running adequately because people are paying for it. It will also create revenue through taxes for the government. However, around 40% of people in the developing world are living in poverty, they are unable to afford basic necessities as it is, by ... This is evident when referring to various periods such as the destruction of the second Temple and the Holocaust. The destruction of the Temple led Jews to consolidate their beliefs through the emergence of Rabbinic Judaism and the tragedy of the Holocaust has stood for and continues to stand for an attachment to the faith. Poll after poll of American Jews in the 1990s found that the Holocaust surpassed Israel, Judaism, or any other factor as the basis of the Jewish Identity. Such moments of historical significance represent an increased strength of faith in times of adversity. In combination to the preservation of tradition to explain the survival of the faith, it is also evident that its continuing presence is determined through its ability to subject itself to change through time. Although this poem is about Jesus death, it does not exactly match up with what the Bible has depicted in the Gospels of the New Testament. There is a culture clash between the Anglo Saxon culture and beliefs and what the Bible thinks of Jesus during his crucifixion. Immanuel Kant And Karl Marx In an effort to understand progress and its goal in humanity, philosophers Immanuel Kant and Karl Marx each present their theories with Kant believing progress is made through the reform brought on by antagonism and social instability in humanity which will ultimately lead to perpetual peace, while Marx argues progress comes in the form of a worker s revolution and the adoption of true communism that will lead to utopia. These German thinkers seek to define the guiding the force beneath humanity s constant state of evolution to understand where it is headed and advise towards a goal they find ideal for humanity. Through an analysis of human characteristics, Immanuel Kant concludes progress is driven by humanity s innate behavior of contempt for one another, which he refers to as antagonism. In Kant s essay On Universal History , his fourth thesis states, The means employed by Nature to bring about the development of all the capacities of men is their antagonism in society, so far as this is, in the end, the cause of a lawful order among men. By this, Kant means that man finds himself in mutual opposition with his peers, but this opposition, as deemed by nature, is the force driving mankind s development. The main character Ivan Ilyich is dying from and unknown disease and while suffering finds himself reflecting on his life choices. Ivan consistently questions himself in the text, such as in his statement What if my life has all been wrong? (775). He struggles with the idea that his life might have been a waste and that he really did not get to live. Ivan has always made decisions based off of society s rules and not his own. In fact, he directly quotes this in the text, It occurred to him that his scarcely perceptible attempts to struggle against what was considered good by the most highly placed people, those scarcely noticeable impulses which he had immediately suppressed, might have been the real thing, and all the rest false (776). Ivan Ilyich was never a man who thought for himself or let alone went off impulse. He always thought about what people around him would do or think about his decisions. Tolstoy s shows in this novel what can happen when you live life by your own rules and what can happen when you live by societies rules such as Ivan Ilyich. He shows that both choices come with major consequences. In this story Ivan Ilyich had two brothers one older and one younger. The older ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Kennedy s speech focuses on how he has never heard of a wall being put up to keep the people of Germany a divided continent. He also states that his people in his country take pride in being able to meet the people of West Berlin. To add on he also says I know of no town, no city, that has been besieged for 18 years that still lives with the vitality and the force, and the hope and the determination of the city of West Berlin . With that statement it lets people know that berlin is a strong and determined country. John demands freedom and in one of the lines from his speech he says Freedom is indivisible, and ... Robert Kintner replaced Weaver as NBC president in 1955 his strategies were intended to move NBC out of its growth phase and into a new phase of maturation, stabilization and profitability. His four fold strategy included a switch from live programs to telefilm (which made syndication and exportation possible), meat and potatoes scheduling ( nothing extravagant, just regular series meant to promote habitual viewing), licensing of outside suppliers to decrease costs and their inherent risks, and using news as a bridge to primetime in order to promote audience flow. Based on each president s very different programming strategies, it is easy to decipher which programs belong in which programming strategy category. For example, Today (1952 ), fits under Weaver s strategy because it was part of his in house THT programming strategy which employed daily format, along with Home and The Tonight Show, so advertisers could buy set segments at lower costs, as well as encouraged viewing in every major block of the day and appealing to a wide range of audiences and encourage stations with empty morning or night schedule to affiliate with NBC. Factors of production also known as productive inputs are the resources employed to produce goods and services, thus it constitutes the input part of the production process. Factors of production involve in the production process and improves the working of the process but do not form the ultimate part of the product. Factors of production can be broadly classified as: 1. Land 2. Labour 3. Capital 4. Entrepreneurship 1.3.1 Land In economics, land includes all natural resources which are free gift of nature. Thus, by land economists do not mean only agricultural soil, but also other natural resources such as minerals, water, climate and forests. Payment for use of land per period is called Rent. Land as factor of production implies the ground used to built and start the production moreover it serves as a pool of various minerals and valuable natural resources which facilitates the human mankind. Land is a fixed factor of production and thus it is not possible to increase. • 34. Theme Of Accident In Grendel There are many explanations about why the world and everything function the way they do. People come up with different answers because of their different beliefs. However, for a period of time, fatalism was widely accepted, and it began to enter the realm of literature. In the novel Grendel, John Gardner employs the motifs accident, mechanism, and time to demonstrate that fate controls all creatures destiny. John Gardner explicitly conveys the motif accident to indicate that fate controls all creatures destiny. In the last chapter of Grendel, the major difference between Beowulf and Grendel appears at where Grendel totally attribute his failure in battle to accident (169). Grendel thinks that Beowulf is just a human, and he can beat Beowulf or at least flee away. But Grendel still loses in the battle due to an accident that he slips on a puddle of blood. Grendel expresses his word to Beowulf or fate with a sense of irony. He could get away from this situation, but an accident happened and it brings everything back to the predestined path which predicts that Grendel will lose and die. Accident is a thing that is not planed or out of expectation which is supposed to lead Grendel out of the control of fate, but it ironically traps Grendel in the story. Further, John Gardner mention accident in Grendel s last few words which says that Poor Grendel s had an accident, (so) may you all (174). These words to the animal and also to the readers can be either taken as a curse or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Ethical Difficulty Between Diversity And Extrinsic Values Inherently, there exists an ethical difficulty in appraising an intrinsic value, for these values are often abstract and intangible. Typical extrinsic appraisals often look at condition or rarity to determine a value, however, intrinsic values can be priceless. Although some intrinsic values such as happiness or love are qualitative, the value of diversity is purely quantitative. It is fundamental to understand how the value of diversity clearly increases positively, where greater diversity is always equated with a greater intrinsic value. When applied to ecosystems, the level of species diversity is most frequently measured as an indicator of the ecosystem value. For example, a desert may only contain tens of species, yet a sub tropical cloud ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They would try to get him out of his house to see if the rumors were true. They were even frightened to walk past his yard. The Importance Of Culture On The Culture Of Nepal Pre interation Nepal is known to be a multi religious country with religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Muslim, Christianity and other religions found there. However, 80 percent of the population of Nepal practices Hinduism. Which leads me to believe that the Hinduism has to have a great impact on the culture of Nepal. Hinduism is a male dominated religion and women often play a secondary role. There are many restrictive conditions that a Nepali Hindu woman has to live by. However, there is overwhelming respect for women because they considered gifts from the gods and aspects of pure energy. Hindus believe in the idea of karma and rebirth, the idea that each is reincarnated so that the soul can be purified. Orientation Upon getting this assignment I immediately thought of doing it on Nepal s culture. I had been intrigued each time my co worker, Aastha, would share her stories about her home. I presumed this would be the perfect opportunity to learn more their practices. I believe they are some similarities between Nepali and Haitian culture in the sense that both could be viewed as having stricter values than the western culture that most of us is familiar with. But more importantly the way that religion is embedded within the culture is the most comparable. I believe that s where the similarities ended and the differences began. Body Art and Ornamentation Essays Running head: BODY ART AND ORNAMENTATION Body Art and Ornamentation in Different Cultures Introduction to Cultural Anthropology ANT101 July 28, 2013 There is no culture in which people do not, or did not paint, pierce, tattoo, reshape, or simply adorn their bodies (Schildkrout, 2001). Throughout history, body art and ornamentation has become a worldwide phenomenon and has played a key role in our lives, yet there is a social stigma which we cannot seem to rid ourselves of. It is most commonly misunderstood and misinterpreted which can be attributed to the fact that the symbolism and significance of the body art and/or ornamentation doesn t always translate the same among the cultures. Looking from another culture s perspective, the various forms of African body art and ornamentation are seen as being weird, out of the ordinary, and we don t understand the importance they hold within these African cultures. On the other hand, there are other cultures such as the Japanese, who instead of outwardly portraying their body art and ornamentation will instead conceal it so it won t be visible at all. The first signs of body art and ornamentation which appear in the Japanese culture were first noted as originating all the way back to AD 297 (Rapp, 2010). Back then, tattoos would signify which occupational group certain men belonged to and men, both young and old, would get tattoos all over their bodies including their faces. Men would even go as far as getting full body tattoos which could be found on laborers, firemen, and gangsters (Hopkins Tanne, 2000). The Chinese considered all Japanese tattoos an act of barbarism and was perceived as being extremely negative. The body art and ornamentation that exists and has existed within the Japanese culture spreads beyond just tattooing and there are a few other methods that they used. First, many married Japanese women or courtesan in the 10th through 19th centuries would apply a paste to their teeth which would blacken them (Schildkrout, 2001). This is certainly the case for Gary Soto, a Mexican American poet. Soto has written many poems and continues to do so today. Soto s poems discuss personal themes from his life like experiencing racism and navigating stereotypes. These are themes that are evident in two of Soto s poems, Mexicans Begin Jogging and Small Town with one Road. Both poems have a deep connection to his life. Soto, a Mexican American man, grew up with a lot of negative experiences. His youth is expressed in his poems where he shares past struggles in hopes of ending racism. Gary Soto was born on the 12th of April, in 1952. He grew up in Fresno, California right across the street from a pickle factory. Unfortunately for Soto, his parents were Mexican American laborers, and his father was killed in an industrial accident when Soto was five (Biography in Context). This tragedy, in combination with the fact that his parents were immigrants, greatly affected his childhood and made it more difficult than it should have been. Soto struggled in school and had difficulty applying himself to his studies. Despite his poor grades, it did not take too long for Gary Soto s writing skills to become evident. My only dislike thus far is that her detailed and figurative writing style can cause confusion at times, for example when she switches from character to character or includes various names every other paragraph. I find myself at times having to read certain lines again so I can actually understand what is going on or who is speaking.
