RIVER
• Samuel Langhorne Clemens -Hannibal,
Missouri.
• The Adventures of Tom
Sawyer (1876), Life on the
Mississippi (1883) and The Adventures
of Hucleberry Finn (1884).
• The Mississippi River is a very powerful
river, it is considered the fourth longest
river in the world and in terms of discharge
volume it is the largest in North America
and the eighth largest in the world.

To Huckleberry “- "Eu sentia que estava livre e
satisfeito. Nós não tínhamos que nos preocupar com
nada no mundo - era o mundo para nós e não
pedíamos mais." (Capítulo 12)”

"Eu tinha que decidir entre duas coisas: eu
podia trair Jim e voltar para casa ou eu podia
continuar com ele - eu estava começando a
gostar dele." (Capítulo 16)

7. FREEDOM
• The idea of freedom chased by Huck and
Jim is what depicts the most of USA, and
it is one of the main topics about the
American Dream.
• Thus, precisely in this point, that the irony
can be seen in the river as a symbol of
freedom. Just like USA and it's revolutions
speaks about freedom and do not includes
black people in this freedom, the river also
represents freedom, but it's a dangerous
place and where Jim and Huck are
approached by King and Duke, leading
to more problems and a sort of lost of
freedom.

8. HERACLITUS
• Heraclitus of Ephesus was a pre-Socratic philosopher
considered the "Father of Dialectics".
• In the philosophical vulgate, Heraclitus is the thinker of
"everything flows", synthesizing the idea of a world in
perpetual motion.
• The central ideas of Heraclitus' philosophy are the unity of
opposites and the concept of change. He also saw harmony and
justice in strife. He viewed the world as constantly in flux,
always "becoming" but never "being". He expressed this in
sayings like "Everything flows" (Greek: πάντα ρει, panta rei)
and "No man ever steps in the same river twice".
Nenhum homem pode banhar-se duas vezes no mesmo
rio… pois na segunda vez o rio já não é o mesmo, nem tão
pouco o homem!… Heráclito de Éfeso.
