Germination Lab
Title: The Effects of Freezing on Germination Rate
Introduction:
The purpose of this experiment was to discover which species out of three seeds would have the
germination rate be the most negatively affected after being frozen for several days. Seed banks
store frozen seeds which implied that freezing seeds doesn t cause any major damage to the
seeds. However, some species of seeds would probably be more resistant to being frozen than
others. Seeds are native to and are grown in many different types of environments some of which
are much warmer and colder than others so there seemed to be a possibility that plants from colder
environments would produce seeds less susceptible to damage from low temperatures.
Experimental Question: How does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were also procedural problems including imprecise measurement of the water at the
beginning of the setup, inconsistent seed placement on the paper towels and irregular times at
which the seeds were observed and watered. Also, the seeds were placed very close together
which resulted in roots growing over into other paper towels and the faster spread of mold. This
mold, which began growing on some of the seeds within a few days, was a major factor. Because
the mold began to spread to other seeds and because none of the seeds sprouted after mold had
grown, the moldy seeds probably should have been removed. There were also a couple breaks in
the pattern of observing and watering the seeds

King Richard Essay
King Richard
My report is on Richard I, byname Richard the Lion Hearted. He was born September 8, 1157 in
Oxford, England. He died on April 6, 1199 in Chalus, England. His knightly manner and his
prowess in the Third Crusade(1189 92) made him a popular king in his own time, as well as the
hero of countless romantic legends. He has been viewed less kindly by more recent historians and
scholars.
Richard was the third son of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine, and he was given the duchy of
Aquitaine, his mother s inheritance, at the age of 11 and was enthroned as duke at Poitiers in
1172. Richard possessed precocious political and military ability, he won fame for his knightly
prowess, and quickly learned how to control the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Richard found the Sicilians hostile, and took Messina by storm(October 4). To prevent the
German Emperor Henry VI from ruling their country, the Sicilians had elected the native,
Tancred of Lecce, who had imprisoned the late king s wife, Joan of England(Richard s sister), and
denied her possession of her dower. By the Treaty of Messina, Richard obtained for Joan her release
and her dower, acknowledged Tancred as king of
Sicily, declared Arthur of Brittany(Richard s nephew)to be his own heir, and provided for Arthur
to marry Tancred s daughter. This treaty infuriated the Germans, who were also taking part in the
Third Crusade, and it incited Richard s brother, John, to treachery and rebellion. Richard joined the
other crusaders at Acre on June 8, 1191, conquered Cyprus on his way there. While at Limassol in
Cyprus, Richard married(May 12)Berengaria of Navarre.
Acre fell in July 1191, and on September 7, Richard s brilliant victory at Arsuf put the crusaders
in possession of Joppa. Twice Richard led his forces to within o few miles of Jerusalem. But the
recapture of the city, which constituted the chief aim of the Third Crusade, eluded him. There were
fierce quarrels among the French, German, and English contingents. Richard insulted Leopold V,
duke of Austria, by tearing down his banner and quarreled with Philip Augustus, who returned to
France after the fall of Acre. Richard s candidate for the crown of

The Theme Of Racism In Down At The Cross By James Baldwin
The environment surrounding an individual determines reactions and character. Down at the
Cross from The Fire Next Time is James Baldwin s memoir pertaining to his life experiences
with racism. The author presents an original writing strategy which uses examples and details to
reach the main goal of helping the reader discover the main points of the story. The rhetorical
style for the second half of the novel furthermore aids Baldwin in his overall purpose of informing
Blacks in the 1960 s of how White people, who are incapable of accepting and loving themselves,
create a racist environment, which African Americans, despite fear and risk, can conquer with love
and strategy. Upon my reflection on the writing, I was pleasantly surprised to find Baldwin has a
perspective unlike any other theorist, because he has convinced me to believe with him how the
end of racismcan be found in the root cause of the issue.
Because Caucasian people are uncomfortable and unconfident with themselves, they consistently
persecute and destroy people of African descent. When James Baldwin says some argue Whites
must accept Blacks, he counteracts this using procatalepsis suggesting, White people in this
country will have quite enough to do in learning how to accept and love themselves and each
other, and when they have achieved this which will not be tomorrow and may very well be never
the Negro problem will no longer exist (Baldwin 22). The author has brought to my attention how
self pity,

Comparison Of The Inflow Wind Velocity Fluctuations On The...
In this section, LES via vortex method was utilized to investigate the inflow wind velocity
fluctuations on the pressure distribution over the roof surface of TTU full scale building. In total,
the results of three CFD LES cases are presented in this section as follows:
(1) CFD LES at location 7 (TI=25%, TLS=10m);
(2) CFD LES at location 7 (TI=30%, TLS=15m);
(3) CFD LES at location 3 (TI=25%, TLS=10m).
The results of mean and peak pressure distribution over the roof surface for each cases are
compared with full scale field measurements and wind tunnel data within the next sub sections
accordingly.

According to the Figure 15 and Figure 16, the results show that the roof peak pressure contours of
a full scale building simulated by the developed CFD LES model 1 at location 7 with input
parameters of TI=25%, and TLS=10m are very similar to the TTU full scale field measurements.
This is again another proof that if an accurate turbulence closure, like LES, and appropriate inlet
velocity fluctuations (for instance using vortex method with tuned input parameters) are
implemented in CFD, the numerical model can be utilized for appropriate estimation of peak and
standard deviation of pressure distributions on low rise buildings within the numerical model. In
addition, in all three CFD LES models, high negative pressure values (suction effects) were
observed near the corner and edges of the windward side of the roof similar to the TTU field data
which are the spots on the roof that separation bubbles start developing in a fluctuating manner.
Identifying the extend of these regions will help to design appropriate mitigation features for
surpassing the high suctions at corner and edges on the roof. Figure 15 (c) and Figure 16 (c) show
that reproducing peak pressures in wind tunnel is, however, a big challenge due to its limitation to
correctly reproduce important flow characteristics and inherent scale issue with

Compare Contrast Operant Classical Conditioning
Learning is any relatively permanent change in behaviour due to experience (Grivas et al, 1999:
318). Conditioning is the acquisition of specific patterns of behaviour in the presence of well define
stimuli (Termpapers, 2003: 01). Learning is the unconscious association between two stimuli which
brings about stimulus substitution: Classical Conditioning, CC, Pavlov and the encoding of
consequences: Operant Conditioning, OC, Skinner (Grivas et al. 1999: 346 349). This essay will
compare and contrast the two learning theories, focusing on the main similarities and differences
that exist.
CC (otherwise known as respondent or Pavlovian conditioning (Weiten, 2001: 222 Copper et al,
1987: 19) was first described by Pavlov in 1899 after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However they differ in that CC is an unconscious association between two stimuli and OC is a
conscious process of learning (Temper, 2003: 01).
In both types of conditioning, extinction occurs however they slightly vary in the process (Grivas
et al, 1999: 374). In CC, extinction refers to the gradual weakening or disappearance of the CR
resulting from the continuos presentation of the CS alone (Grivas at al, 1999: 329). In OC
however, the discontinuation of any reinforcement that had once maintained a given behaviour
is referred to as extinction (Baldwin, 1998: 57). When reinforcement is withdrawn from the
learning process, the frequency or rate of response decreases (Baldwin, 1998: 57). In CC,
extinction takes place over a period of time when the UCS is withdrawn (Grivas et al, 1999:
363). Extinction within OC also occurs over time, but following the termination of reinforcement.
(Grivas et al, 1999: 363) Another similarity that is present between the two learning theories is
spontaneous recovery Extinction in both CC and OC can be interrupted by Spontaneous
recovery (Grivas e al, 1999: 374). In CC, spontaneous recovery is the reappearance of a
conditioned response when the CS is presented, following a rest period (i.e. when the CS is not
presented) after the conditioned response appears to have been extinguished. (Grivas, 1999: 330).
Similar to CC, extinction is not permanent in OC. After a period of time in which a stimulus is
presented with no following

American Conservatism Essay
American Conservatism
Beginning with Nixon and continuing with Reagan after the radical changes of American culture
in the sixties and seventies, Americans would begin to shift towards more conservative ideas
unsure of the rapid radical change. In the 1994 mid term elections, the American people would
elect a congress of mostly conservatives for the first time in nearly 50 years. At the core of this
success would be the Contract with America. A set of promises and goals devised by conservative
congressional representative Newt Gingrich. In 2000 the Republicans (modern conservative party)
would retain the Congress and capture the White House. Conservatism has been a leading political
ideology since the inception of the United States to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Historian Russell Kirk believes there are six basic tenets of all conservatism. To begin
conservatives believe in a transcendent order or body of natural law, which rules society as well
as conscience. Political problems at their roots are religious and or moral problems (9). The ideal
that religion and morality can have influence over political and social problems is widely seen in
the United States. The Republicans are often the choice of people with conservative Christian
ideology.
Another important tenet of conservatism is a respect for the proliferating variety of human
existence, as opposed to the uniformity aims of most radical systems. Conviction that civilized
society requires orders and classes (Kirk 9). This is reflected in American conservatism belief that
economic leveling in inherently wrong. In the belief that economic leveling is wrong, conservatives
also believe strongly in protecting the rights of private property owners.
In addition, conservatives have a recognition that changes may not be salutary reform. Belief that
custom and convention are checks on radical change that could be harmful to society (Kirk 8).
These tenets are seen in American conservatism. In the fact that American conservative parties have
always been opposed to radical reform, such was the case when Franklin D. Roosevelt proposed
and enacted sweeping government intervention in his New Deal legislation.
In order to better understand conservatism one must consider

Separating Peace Character By Character A Separate Peace is a novel based around a group of
high school boys in a private college preparatory school named Devon. Most of Devon s students
want, have, or search for peace throughout their time at school. Upon return from summer break,
each character searches for and discovers their peace. The words separate and peace represent a
variety of ideas in Knowles novel, especially for Gene, Phineas, and Leper. I believe author John
Knowles chose this title to imply individuals may possess their own unique peace. Each character
in A Separate Peace naturally had their own peace and each chose either to embrace their inner
peace or to fight against it. The character Leper was a quiet, odd man... Show more content on

That would be Gene s odd peace appearing to have the need of being top dog and having no
rivalries, and being rid of anyone he could even have an inkling of jealousy against. In the text
he says, ... I couldn t help envying him (Finny) that a little, which was perfectly normal. There
was no harm in envying even your best friend a little. This quote was when Finny did not get in
trouble at the Master s Tea for dressing against school code because he talked his way out of it.
This was when the rivalry between Gene and what he believed was Finny, but was really only
one sided (Finny had no thoughts pertaining to this) started. This is a very rare peace. I hardly
ever see where someone finds peace by envying and wanting major personal competition with
their close friends. The full picture of Gene s peace included being top dog, doing the best in
school, aiming for valedictorian, and having no opposition from anyone else. Most inward
peace hinges on upbeat feelings, but Gene s character is different. His self peace came only after he
had gotten rid of the one person he was jealous of and was completely rid of any anger or hatred. It
is stated in the novel, My fury was gone, I felt it gone, dried up at the source, withered and
lifeless. Phineas had absorbed it and taken it with him, and I was rid of it

After a successful landing for the crew, the men held to each other s elbows, suddenly unable to
breathe, it seemed. Their faces grew pale. (Bradbury 33). The men were filled with fear as to
what they saw: Mars looked exactly like the old town on Earth they all grew up in. This
portrayal of setting develops the fear of the unknown because it is the exact opposite of what
Mars was believed to look like. Bradbury goes on to set this expedition in context
chronologically with the previous two mission. Some of the men believed that Captain

how they had landed in an Earthly town, but Captain Black pointed out the York expedition was

and William and his men, as well as York, landed on the opposite side of Mars. (34). The men
were looking for a justification as to why Mars was so Earthlike, but Bradbury brilliantly counters
all points through explicitly detailing the setting as one that could not overlap with the present.
This exudes fear of the unknown as there is no given solution as to what lies ahead of Captain

1.18 M M s Lab
Purpose: To practice direct and indirect measurement
Introduction: Do you think you could measure the average thickness of a sample of M Ms without
directly measuring selected M Ms? The answer is yes, and in this activity you will make direct and
indirect measurements of the thickness of M Ms. You will compare the results and evaluate the
reliability of each method of measurement. Be sure to view the tutorial on the proper use of the
vernier caliper. Please re visit the information on when to cite sources.
Since a graduated cylinder is usually used for liquid measurement, students think they need to put
water in the cylinder. This is nottrue for this activity. The graduated cylinder will be kept cleanand
dryfor this activity. It is also important to remember that in the metric system, one mL is the same
volume as one cubic centimeter (1 ml = 1 cm3).
Materials: none
Pictures will be provided of the experiment. Materials used in obtaining the pictures are a bag of
regular (NOT peanut) M Ms (about 8 oz), plastic vernier caliper, and 100 ml plastic graduated
cylinder.
Procedure:
Start with a clean and dry 100 ml plastic graduated cylinder. Add M Ms until the graduated
cylinder is about 3/4 full. Gently tap the graduated cylinder to settle the M Ms. Read the volume
of M Ms in cm3 and record the value in Data Table 1.

Mindfulness Meditation and The Reduction of Anxiety
Mindfulness Meditation and The Reduction of Anxiety
Mindfulness meditation is a form of meditation that has been prevalent for thousands of years, and
is only becoming increasingly more popular. Over the past decade, neuroscientists like myself have
become increasingly interested in studying how meditation affects the brain and body. The number
of studies conducted per year in this new field of contemplative science is rising exponentially, with
more than 200 studies published last year alone, (Hasenkamp). It s a form of meditation in which a
person builds a practice of awareness, intentionally focuses their attention on the present moment,
and accepts whatever the present moment brings, without any judgment.

The majority of study participants reported decreases in anxiety. Researchers found that meditation
reduced anxiety ratings by as much as 39 percent. (Beck and Davis)
The direct effect that focusing the mind on the present moment has on reducing anxiety and its
symptoms are largely important. The idea of not controlling one s thoughts, but redirecting them to
the present moment is a fairly hard concept for most people to fully understand. Redirecting one s
thoughts to the present moment distracts the mind from any worry some or anxiety inducing
thoughts or feelings, without giving attention to them. The redirection of thoughts essentially keeps
the mind occupied, which means the mind has less time to spend worrying or cultivating anxiety
inducing scenarios in one s mind.
In relation to the redirection of thoughts being effective in reducing anxiety, it also has been proven
to reduce physical symptoms of anxiety or discomfort. By reverting attention away from pre
existing physical discomforts, these same discomforts are given time to subside, which they
typically do immensely, solely because it isn t the focus of one s attention. Some experts believe
that mindfulness works, in part, by helping people to accept their experiences including painful
emotions rather than react to them with aversion and

Karen Armstrong
The book, In the Beginning, by Karen Armstrong follows the first book of the Bible, Genesis. It
unfolds some very well known stories in Genesis. Armstrong goes through each of the stories of
Genesis and interprets what each story is about and how we can relate it to our own lives. The
book of Genesis can be difficult to understand and it holds many mysteries within it, but with the
help of Karen Armstrong, we are able to understand the stories of Genesis and what they mean.
This is the story of the Bible s first book, raw and unchurched. Karen introduces us one by one to
the characters and their stories, making no effort to turn them into saints, for they are nothing like
the impossibly and depressingly flawless characters we met in Sunday School. Throughout, the
authors of Genesis remind us that we can expect no clear cut answers. We wrestle with the text,
measuring its inconsistent doctrines and contradictory lessons, as we struggle to grasp the character
of God. How can God be omnipotent, but powerless to control his creation? How can God be
benevolent but a killer; wise but arbitrary; just but partial and unfair; omniscient but ignorant of
human yearning?

wide acceptance in liberal circles. I also don t accept the conservative notion that Moses wrote

Possible Causes Of Jealousy In Relationship
Possible causes of jealousy and its effects on a relationship
One of the most authentic causes of jealousy is unhealthy comparisons. By human nature people
are often comparing things and one another.
Insecurity There is no greater source of jealousy in a relationship than insecurity, which is a
result of inferiority complex or lack of self confidence or having low self esteem. An insecure
person believes that he or she is not good enough; they assume that everyone else is better than
they are and are therefore easily intimidated by other people s success, happiness, brilliance,
possession or class. Insecurity which can arise as a result of peer pressure or unbalanced societal
expectations or judgment causes people to become vulnerable to ... Show more content on

Jealousy is a sign that something is seriously wrong about your relationship. And most often it is
not about your partner but rather about you. Do you have trust issues? Do you have a low self

will do more damage than good to your relationship.
Nobody wants a jealous lover. Jealousy will simply sap the energy and beauty out of your

Onboarding Research Paper
Effective Onboarding Orientation and onboarding are crucial when training and developing new
employees. Both are gateways into high work performance, a closer work environment, and
encourages employee retention. Orientation is the process of familiarizing new employees with the
organization, their jobs, and their work units. It influences the employee s attitude about their role,
responsibilities, job related tasks, and explains the organization s rules. Onboarding is the process
of socializing the new employees to help integrate them into the organization. New hires are at a
higher rate of quitting, the usage of onboarding is what many companies today have neglected.
According to Sujan Patel, the author of: How to Create an Effective Onboarding... Show more

Patel explains the first mistake is lack of structure. By that he means onboarding is not a one size
fits all process. It differs business to business, so he suggests to learn from mistakes and adapt the
onboarding program through trial and error. This can be done by taking notes and adjusting
accordingly. Drafts of what was done and how it went should be kept documented so they can be
changed and/or referenced to. Another mistake Patel points out is the lack of focus on culture.
Company culture is just as important as paperwork and job responsibilities. On the job success
comes from the interaction between employees and the building of their relationships within the
company s culture. Placing the newcomer with other employees that fit their personality is highly
recommended. The employee will feel more comfortable and other employees will be more
accepting. Socialization among the employees increase productivity, because the employees are
happier and healthier relationship wise. This creates overall more motivation in the workplace.
Another practice companies that use onboarding fall into, is having too high expectations. When
employing a new employee, employers tend to get much too eager and stressed on hurrying up the
acclimation process during onboarding. rushing this process can shortcut the training and overload
the newcomer with too much responsibility without the knowhow on where to start or who to go
to. This can lead to overly stressed employees, poor work quality, and a low retention rate. It is
best to match the quality of work the employer expects with the amount of training that will be
given to the employee. If an employee is not keeping up with production the employer will be able
to monitor that and deal with it

What is beyond your control?
The descendants of Ham migrated for the most part to northeast Africa, especially Egypt, the
eastern Mediterranean region, and southern Arabia. Eventually, they formed the eastern and
southern people of Mesopotamia. The descendants of Canaan settled in the area that the LORD later
promised to give to the descendants of Shem.187

Ethiopia are interchangeable in the Bible. They intermarried with Semitic tribes living in the same
region, so there is some repetition of the names in other lines. The second son is Mizraim; this is

first scientists to develop the birth order theory. It is not so much the fact that people are first
born, middle child, baby of the family or an only child; but more so of that fact that parents alter
their parenting method and deal with their children differently. With a few exceptions, each birth
order position has key personality traits, social and job tendencies and pros and cons for being in
that certain birth order position. Our first birth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The younger the child is when the parents adopt him the more likely the child will fall into its
place in the birth order. But, if the child is older when they are adopted they are more likely to
possess the personality traits of where they fall in the birth order pyramid of their biological
family. Some people believe friends influence personality traits and some people believe that
siblings influence personality traits. Many factors play into a child s personality development.
Parents, siblings and friends all are key factors. Not everyone will fall into the expected
personality traits of their birth order. Parents can avoid their children being categorized into each
category by how they parent and by not comparing their children to each other. The size of a
family affects how accurate the birth order theory is. The bigger the family the less chance the
kids have of being a certain birth order. The smaller the family the bigger chance the children have
as being a certain birth order. Also bigger families mean that the parents attention and money are

You don t want to be in the fight or flight response at bed time. This natural circadian rhythm makes
sense and it matches our lifestyles. Did Mother Nature know best?
But why you ask. Why are cortisol levels highest in the morning? For at least two major reasons.
One. Too get you up out of bed and ready to take on the day. Two. Working together with the
hormone glucagon cortisol raises blood sugar levels to power up your muscles and your brain!
Remember you have been fasting overnight and blood sugar levels will be low. The brain
demands the body do this and keep blood sugar levels stabilized.
Cortisol and fat accumulation
A little piece of data you need to know to lose fat. Cortisol breaks down muscle to release amino
acids (the building blocks of muscle) which are then used to make glucose, which is energy for the
brain! Think about this, where do you burn fat? In your muscles right. If you catabolise the very
tissue that burns fat you will lose your ability to burn fat and you metabolism will drop making it
more difficult to burn fat. Oh yes, you will be more tired with low energy. Cortisol also promotes
belly fat accumulation!
Further, cortisol contributes to elevated insulin with is the blood sugar balancing hormone.
Elevated insulin has two effects on fat. One it promotes fat storage. Two it inhibits fat mobilization
and utilization by muscles. Elevated insulin makes you store fat which you can t burn! YUCK!
So why is breakfast so

Tobacco Hornworm Lab Report
Introduction:
The purpose of this assignment is to observe the stages of a Tobacco Hornworm. We are then
supposed to document them and describe not only their life cycle, but also any physical or
behavioral changes we saw. The Tobacco Hornworms scientific name is Manduca sexta. It belongs
to the order Lepidoptera and the family Sphingidae. The normal habitat for Tobacco Hornworms
is normally along the Gulf coast, which provides plenty of sunlight and a warm climate. They
feed on most commonly tobacco or tomato plants. As adults they imbibe nectar from flowers and
other plants. In our case the Tobacco Hornworm was living in a vile, feeding on the food provided.
I placed the Hornworm by the kitchen window to provide light. Tobacco Hornworms are seen ...

Considering this the Hornworm was kept under artificial light throughout the night and by a
window through the day. The temperature was around 60 62 degrees Fahrenheit, which is
typically too cold for the Hornworm. With that in consideration, we assumed the hornworm may
possibly take more time to transition instars. The food source for the Tobacco Hornworm was
what was provided which was a mixture of water, agar, and wheat germ. The Tobacco Hornworm
was kept in the kitchen and was usually observed during the afternoon and evening. Pictures
were taken whenever a physical change was noted. Normally an observation would be around 3
4 minutes and would be written down with a date. A lot of research was done to see if the
Hornworm was transitioning into a new instar and what they were supposed to look like. It was
usually very noticeable when the Hornworm had transitioned to a new instar because of the
difference in size, appearance, or the presence of shed exuvium. If I was ever unsure, a lot of
available resources were online and also posted onto Blackboard. A picture was taken at every
transitional stage.

Analysis Of Herbert Hoover s The Great Gatsby
This script presents as a historical, character driven drama that explores an interesting part of
Herbert Hoover s life as a secretary and mining scout in Australia. The tone is consistently dramatic
with a nice element of wit and humor. The era, culture, and time period feel authentic and
believable. The historical information feels well researched.
Hoover s goal to become rich and marry the woman of his dreams is well established and drives
Hoover s actions.
Will the story has the potential to be a compelling drama, the script would benefit from more
development, especially in the area of structure, pace, and tension.
First, the opening begins when Hoover is handing over his Presidency and then flashbacks back in
time. This is a workable structure, although the opening scene doesn t immediately grab the
attention of the audience. It s heavy with dialogue and doesn t highlight the emotion of Hoover.
The first act is driven by Hoover s quest for a job so that he can marry the woman he loves. The
first act is a bit repetitive in dialogue, as his friends repeatedly counsel him about meeting with
Lou s father and what to do and say. Hoover also tends to repeat his goal several times about
getting rich and marrying Lou (page 17 and page 20 are examples).
The second act is driven by Hoover s job in Australia. The concern about the second act is that there
s very little compelling tension to sustain the overall plot. The story requires stronger pivotal plot

International Trade Policy Of Russia
Abstract In this paper, the author attempt to shed light on the introduction the international trade
policy of Russia. For this purpose, the author studied the international trade pattern of Russia
through the analysis of geography, historical and economical factors. The previous studies analyzed
the international tradepolicies of Russia on the basis of their domestic factors. But, the significance
of this study rests upon the fact that it endeavors to explore the international relationship with other
countries from the economical and political angles. For this analysis, the basic structures of this
paper are as follows. First, we stated flatly the overall trade pattern and trade structure of Russia
based on the financial transactional data. Second, the commodity structure was found to have a
significant effect on the international trade policy of Russia, so I introduced some important
components of trade policy which already been taken by Russia. Third, the involvement in regional
trade activity was revealed to have a greater influence on the trade policy, so I presented the
agreements Russia reached with other countries and emphasize the relationship and disputes with
United States. The results of this study suggest the international trade policy of Russia from the
perspective of relationship with other countries that should have been considered important.

The Aviation Industry Has Had On The Environment
Introduction The civil aviation sector over the past hundred years has transformed into one of
the most vital forms of transport in society today. This is due to a vast range of improvements
and innovations. One major enhancement in an aircraft is its fuel efficiency; this was obtained
through years of in depth research, engine development, avionics and its aerodynamics. The
effect that the aviation industry has had on the environment has been relatively small but due to
the increase in demands the emissions released by these aircrafts will increase as a result of this.
The primary emissions released are carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and unburned
hydrocarbons have all contributed to the deterioration of local air quality and eventually lead to
an increase in greenhouse gases. The purpose of this assignment is to highlight the advancements
in the aircraft industry over the past hundred years as well as state the key innovations which led
to the overall goal airliner the Boeing 247 . The 247 flew using the design of a twin engine
bomber with retractable landing gear built initially for the military. Even though it only
accommodated 10 passengers and had a cruising speed of 155 miles an hour, this was a turning
point in history as it was the first aircraft to be introduced into civil aviation. Another example was
the introduction of military aviation. World War II was the main cause of fighter jets. By the end of
the war aircraft manufacturers were producing 48,000

Gender Roles In Frederick Douglass
The endeavor to escape slavery was an idea that pondered in the minds of slaves. While slavery
influenced both genders emotionally, physically, and educationally, ultimately only the male
gender was able to comprehend what it would be like to be able to flee slavery. Men took charge
and became independent being able to leave slavery, whereas the women were more dependent as
wives and mothers, which caused them to not be able to getaway. Douglass and Jacobs works
proved this to be true as the reader sees their experiences as a slave fluctuate based on their gender.
Through Douglass encounters as a slave we see how important it is for a male to participate in
physical labor and then through Jacobs story, one is able to see how women were used mostly
by their masters sexually. Once Abolition started everyone thought it would better the lives of
men and women, but boy were they mistaken. In Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl and
Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, the authors vary in the way that the men are able to
escape slavery easier than woman because of the expectations of gender roles during the time
and that is what shaped these two works. Throughout Douglass narrative of his life, he is able to
have this image that one day he will no longer be controlled by a master and no longer be a slave
and is something Linda in Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, cannot ever see because her family
is restricting her from this idea. Douglass has no parents or

Surely You Re Joking Mr. FeynmanВ… Essay
It is hard not to enjoy this author. Richard Feynman is an extremely curious character with a lot
of time on his hands. He obviously loved to explore the science world as an art. He won the
Nobel Prize in 1965 for physics and was one of the greatest physicists of all time. Within the few
chapters and pages that I have read, Richard Feynmanwas definitely a man with a huge sense of
adventure and a very high intelligence. In the first chapter that I read (Testing Bloodhounds), I
thought that it was very interesting. I never knew that we, as humans, could smell and observe
things just like dogs. To my understanding we can tell just about anything from smelling and
looking at something that has just been touched. I thought it was cool... Show more content on

Feynman had a good excuse for picking locks though. Going through filing cabinets may not have
been legal, but Feynman did it. Today, if we were to pick a lockin a Dr. s office, we would
definitely get in trouble, it seemed like Feynman hardly ever got into trouble. He was probably
so well respected that no one really cared if he broke into cabinets or houses for that matter. The
Third chapter that I read was, Certainly Mr. Big! It was a chapter of excitement to say the least!
I think that Feynman was trying to figure out all of the games that people played with money
and life. This chapter was not really my favorite. It had a lot of information and it was just
weird. The way that he explained the situation with the high roller from Texas was kind of
confusing and boring. Oh well, I guess you cannot always enjoy every single chapter in every
single book that you read. The one thing that I did find out in this chapter, is that Richard
Feynman likes women. That along with learning not to be a gentleman is what I learned most. I
thought it was different to hear that he did not want to be a gentleman, but then when he
explained it further with the Texas high roller I got what he was saying. It was definitely a packed
chapter with lots of information in it. The fourth chapter I read was, Is electricity Fire? I liked how
he brought God into science in this chapter. It is often hard to relate

meeting the companies social responsibility goals will be established. Based on the evaluation a
revision or revamp of the program if necessary will be initiated. The ethics program needs to be

The View Of Citizen Journalism

In the future, everyone will be a news reporter.

Coinciding with the growth of the internet, citizen journalism has generated popularity over the
years and is no longer considered niche. Modernly armed with smartphones and social media
outlets, the general public are often able to record and publish material long before a journalist has

A more complex and positive definition of citizen journalism by Courtney C. Radsch, suggests
public journalism is an activist form of newsgathering that could be an alternative to mainstream
media. Citizen journalism is reporting that functions outside mainstream media institutions, often as
a response to shortcoming in the professional journalistic field, that uses similar journalistic
practices but is driven by different objectives and ideals and relies on alternative sources of
legitimacy than traditional or mainstream journalism. (Jljtan005.blogspot.co.uk, 2014) In the view
of Radsch then, citizen journalists, without the constraints of working for a commercially driven
outlet, are able to make up for shortcomings present in traditional media and are able to offer news
that previously wouldn t have existed.
The growing online communities of citizen journalists might make the medium seem like a
modern phenomenon however as suggested by Heidi Cohen (2011) in her article, How Social
Media Helps Old Media, the concept of citizen journalism can be traced back to the 13th century
when town criers or bellmen made public announcements of news. In a medieval Britain, a large
percentage of the population could neither read nor write and so were informed of goings on by a
town crier. This free supply of trusted information provided Britain s general population with it s

to a state of being humbled or reduced to lowliness or submission. The Latin root of humiliation is
humus , which means earth or dirt translating to reduce to dirt ; representing ones rank in society.
No one should have to experience the awful feeling of being humiliated, but it has been happening
for centuries, and it continues to happen in our society to this very day. Humiliation promotes
negative psychological thinking; it is used for punishment, to some it defines their status, and it
could prompt a terrible situation if intertwined with anger. A friend told me once that she is a firm

Importance Of Canadian Literature
Studying Literature in Grade 12
In this essay, I will prove that graduating students in Ontario should only study Canadian literature
in a Grade 12 English course. While good writers exist in all cultures, Ontario students should only
study Canadian writers. Becoming more familiar with our literature. Three reasons for this are; the
need to focus on our own Canadian culture despite being surrounded by other cultures: the need to
promote and establish our own writers, and the need to encourage younger Canadian authors.
I believe that students in Ontario taking English should only study Canadian literature because we
are completely swamped by the American culture around us. I think that this is a Canadian
tradition because we have always been a branch plant of another country starting with England and
France meaning that our own culture has never had the chance to develop since we have always
been under the thumb of a more powerful foreign culture. So, for years, a student in Ontario would
study Shakespeare and other British writers, today they may also study American authors such as
Hemingway. But many schools limit a student s exposure to the Canadian novel to ISP reading
lists. In this sense, Canada is an attic in which we have stored American and British literature
without considering our own. 1 No wonder a Canadian student has problems appreciating their
culture.
Often what Canadian literature is studied is very old. This includes works such as Margaret

Behaviorism contends that desired behavior from people is...
Behaviorism contends that desired behavior from people is formed by the actions and reactions of
other people rather than an individual s own free will. This means that by carefully and deliberately
shaping desirable behavior, morality and information is learned by individual, so important causes
of, and motivations for behavior lie outside, rather than within an individual. Therefore for
behaviorists, all learningis observable and measurable. Learning occurs in a behaviorist classroom

Feedback and response, which are inherent in behaviorism, can also be achieved because the online

that will be used in online learning.
Cognitivism or the cognitive learning theories came about in response to behaviorism. They
thought that overt behavior is not the only basis to explain learning. Instead, cognitive theorists
believe that learning is also an internal mental process. There are two assumptions about
cognitivism and these are: the memory is an active, organized processor of information and that
prior knowledge is an important part of learning.
The teacher in the cognitive approach builds intelligence and cognitive development because for
the cognitivist, the individual learner and his/her active processes are of utmost importance. The
information processing model and the multi store model of memory were both borne out of the
theories of cognitive learning. In the classroom, educators can utilize this into an instructional
model called phases of learning. Developed by Gagne, this model parallels

There are three goals for changing sports, the conservative goal, reformist goal and the radical goal.
The conservative goal is growth, the idea that sports should constantly be strengthened and
expanded in their current forms. The reformist goal is improvement, the idea that foundations of
sport should be restored, maintained with participation opportunities should arise. Lastly the
radical goal is transformation, the idea that sports must be reorganized or replaced to create a
new meaning and/or purpose. My preference of these three goals is first the reformist goal, then
radical goal, and lastly the conservative goal. I like to think of these three goals as such
(reformist goal + conservative goal= radical goal). I chose the reformist goal first because i feel
like when it comes to organized sports, each participant should have equal opportunity. The
reformist goal will take away the access of cheating, deviance and drug use which will put
everyone on the same playing field and the same chance to prove themselves. It will also clean
the image of organized sports being biased. Next, i chose the conservative goal because it will
feed off of the reformist goal. Once you change the status of the sport, you will have to give it
room to grow, hence the conservative goal. By doing this you will increase the resources

Analysis Of Fools Horse And Fools Crow
In the Pikuni society, honor can be described as a form of social currency. Men and women of the
Pikuni tribes were known by their honor, it they were given names based on their glories in battle,
and they were brought up with a furious devotion to their tribe. In a way, the entire relationship
between Fools Crow and Fast Horsereflected the role of honor in Pikuni Culture. Throughout the
story, Fools Crow showed time after time his devotion to the Lone Eaters. Whether it was on the
horse raid, the war party, or his spiritual quests, he proved that his main focus was on the
amelioration of his tribe. However, Fast Horse, on the other hand, proved right from the start
that he did not care about the tribe s interest he was only focused on his personal glory.
Moreover, he wanted honor and glory to simply be given to him, instead of earning it through
selfless action. Ultimately, Fast Horse gave up on the Loner Eaters in search or an easier path
to glory, and was shunned by his people. The contrast in the transformations of Fools Crow and
Fast Horse is the best example of the value of honor in Pikuni society. Rides at the door, Fools
Crow s father, shows us another example of honor in the story. He is not a chief, yet the Pikunis
put great value his input. Much like Fools Crow, when he was a young man, he stole horses and
fought amongst his fellow Pikuni in battle against their enemy even as an older man he bravely
went into battle to defend the honor of Yellow Kidney.

Psychoanalytic And Psychodynamic Theory Of Personality
Psychoanalytic/ Psychodynamic: The psychodynamic perspective focuses on the role of the
unconscious mind in the development of personality. Freud believed that the personality
develops in a series of five stages that develop the three divisions of personality. In the oral stage,
the fixation is in the mouth, and would be the cause of his introverted nature; likewise, in the
anal stage, Roberto would discover his reserved nature, while the phallic stage, he would further
refine his reserved nature as a sense of humility in his actions, also defining his mild mannered
portion of his personality. In the latency stage, his social skills would refined and he would
become introverted. Freud would think that Roberto s mild mannered, reserved, and invertedness
is caused by intense suppressing of the id by the ego, having Roberto adopt the personality that he
does; however, Karen Horney would classify Roberto s personality in respect to her theory of
neurotic personalities personalities typified by maladaptive ways of dealing with relationships with
moving away from people by withdrawing from personal relationships. Behaviorism: The
behaviorist perspective of personality focuses on the effect of the environment on behavior. Based
on the theories of Skinner and Pavlov, Roberto has his personality because of his past experiences
in a social environment. B.F. Skinner would relate operant conditioning to Roberto s personality.

Cultural Potluck Day Of My Life
It was about a year or two ago, I was giving my closet a much needed makeover, when I came
across a dusty brown box shoved far, far in the back. Intrigued, I hauled the heavy box onto my
dresser and took a peek inside coming across a collection of tired faded photos of my family.
I ve always found that looking through my family albums gave me sense of nostalgic pleasure.
Photos gave me a way to immerse myself into my favourite moments in life. The different
milestones I had met, the celebrations of people I loved both past and present, and the places I had
seen were all documented and gave me proof that they had actually occurred. But on that particular
night, Diwali, the festival of lights, where instead of celebrating with my family, I sat ... Show more

In other words, the fourth grade cultural potluck day. Well it wasn t really a dignity massacre per
se, more of a dignity murder (double homicide). But I digress, potluck day (more like potunluck
day if you ask me) was pretty much torturous when you lived in very WASPy community. But I
was not aware of that until my mother found me and my friend Soyeon in tears after the event.
The day before, me and Soyeon had worked tirelessly with our mothers to create the BEST
samosa and kimchi noodle dishes that the seasoning deprived kids of class 208 had ever tasted.
And what did we get for our valiant and benevolent efforts? A sad uneaten tray of Samosas and a
yellow tupperware box filled with kimchi noodles. I still don t understand what could possibly
compel someone to scoff at a samosa while drooling over a jelly sandwich. I remember crying to
my mother that night about the pure

Rene Descartes Second Meditation Essay
RenГ© Descartes, a rationalist philosopher finds uncertainty in almost everything, including his
senses, memory, body and the physical world. Everything besides the fact he himself is a res
cogitans (thinking thing). He puts forth this idea in his second meditation of his most famous
works, Meditations On First Philosophy, published in 1641. This analytic style of writing opens by
considering any belief that was the slightest bit doubtful, as false. Descartes felt the need for this
hyperbolic doubt in order to reach an impartial truth. He then takes you through the thoughtprocess
that led him to the one thing that lies beyond all doubt. He finds certainty in the statement Cogito,
ergo sum or I think, therefore I am. FOOTNOTE The first Meditation in Descartes Meditations On
First Philosophy, is based on doubting almost everything he once believed as true. When
Descartes found that beliefs he had were false, he realized all of his beliefs could be threatened.
He embraced scepticism and refused to accept anything that it is possible to... Show more content

FOOTNOTE Descartes started his thought process with making an effort of defining himself.
He tried using words such as man or rational animal. The problem with using these terms are you
then have to go on to define what man and rational mean. FOOTNOTE In the first meditation,
Descartes casts his soul, its capability and his body into doubt. Descartes wonders if this means
he simply does not exist? Although for him to convince himself that his beliefs are false, he must
exist. Even if he is being deceived by a demon or God, he must exist in order to be deceived at all.
There must be an I that can doubt, and be

Langston Hughes and Jesse B. Simple
Lansgton Hughes and Jesse B. Semple
In the early 1940s an African American writer by the name of Langston Hughes, who flourished
during the Harlem Renaissance in New York, had established a character in his short story writings
named Jesse B. Semple. Through these short stories he used this character to represent the black
man of his times. However the question remains, is Jesse B. Semple an accurate representation of
the black man of 1940s? This question can best be answered by looking at the conditions of society
during that time period, what the mind set of the black man in that era and comparing it to the
representation that Hughes created with Jesse B. Semple. Langston Hughes was born on February
1st, 1902 in Joplin, Missouri. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His characteristics were that he had little formal education, but he had a lot of common sense
and could see the truth in many situations. In many ways Langston Hughes used Semple and his
stories to project the voice of all the black men of that time. Semple touched on issues such as
racism, interracial marriages and any other important issues that showed what it meant to be
black during that period. Hughes took every issue that he felt was necessary in the accurate
representation of the Negro man, and projected through the life of Semple. Hughes also took the
name Semple and often called him, Simple to emphasize how simple his life seemed at a
glance, but in fact it was not simple at all. The events Jesse B. Semple went through in his
stories and his opinions and views of what was going on in the world showed a certain irony that
the society of that time had for them. With the stories of Jesse B. Semple and his, simple life, he
felt he had captured the mindset of every black man of the 1940s, because he felt most black men
in 1940s were bound to the same characteristics which Semple had.
Now fully understanding the life and inspirations of Langston Hughes, the society and mind set of
the black man in the 1940s, and the representation that Jesse B. Semple held for the black men of
that time, we can answer the question: Is Jesse B. Semple an accurate representation of the black
man of the 1940s? When

Cell Phones Are Ordinary Today
Cell phones are ordinary today. Very nearly everybody has one. My grandma conveys an iPhone
and my dad a man who once swore he d never convey a telephone with him anyplace slaps a
Samsung Galaxy S III with an OtterBox case on his hip each morning. It wasn t generally so. I
was the main individual at my secondary school educators and organization included with a cell
phone. To start with, I had the Moto Q, then the BlackBerry Pearl 8130, trailed by the Curve
8330. Furthermore, that is the place my story started, in 2006, taking lesson notes (read: playing
Brick Breaker and Asteroids) on an incredible QWERTY console about a large portion of the
palm s extent of my hand. Trust it or not, cell phone history backtracks over 10 years before that.
Things were ... intriguing in those days. In the first place, what is a cell phone? Turns out, the
real definition, regardless of the source, is very ambiguous. Merriam Webster compactly calls a
cell phone a PDA that incorporates extra programming capacities (as email or an Internet
program). Oxford Dictionaries, then again, gets somewhat more exact by saying a cell phone has
the capacity perform a hefty portion of the elements of a PC, commonly having a moderately
expansive screen and a working framework equipped for running universally useful applications. In
any case, there is an almost negligible difference between what is and isn t a cell phone nowadays,
regardless of the fact that the purported moronic or

The Themes Of Sexuality In The Odd Couple By Neil Simon
Sexuality is very difficult to write about, and only the greatest can tackle this class without making
the subject cliche. Neil Simon spent the majority of his life composing plays and making himself
as one of America s greatest authors. With his lifelong commitment to writing came the
establishment of many different themes throughout his works. In The Odd Couple, Simon uses
the bonds between the characters and subtext to display the difficulties of sexuality as well as the
progression made through change. Felix and Oscar, the main characters of The Odd Couple, have
long been thought to be homosexual by readers and critics, yet many are not sure about this idea.
The main reason to believe that the two are gay is that Oscar Madison is a self assured slob, Felix
Ungar a sexually inhibited, obsessively neat neurotic (Teachout). Of course, with this belief that the
two may have a more than platonic relationship comes the skepticism of others. The show itself was
set during a time where many were not openly homosexual, and the two men were once married.
This fact dissuades many from believing the idea that the characters are closeted gay men. Although
many do disagree with the fact that there is queer subtext in the show, it is rather evident if looked
at through the perspective of the men being homosexual. Although there are many skepticisms
about the characters sexuality, it can be shown through the words they say and what they mean that
the men have deeper feelings. A

Facebook Password Is Fair Game Summary
Picture yourself in an office being interviewed for the position of a middle school teacher. The
discussion is headed towards the right direction until suddenly the employer asks for your
facebook password. In complete shock you ask them to repeat themselves with come again? ,
but you ve heard right. Once again, the employer casually requests your facebook password.
What do you do? Do you give it up or is this a ridiculous question? Alfred Edmond Jr. writes in
his written piece, Why Asking for a Job Applicant s Facebook Password Is Fair Game, how he
believes that asking for a social media password is not pushing it too far. Although he admits this is
coming from the business owner point of view. In the position of a future employee, being... Show

Depending on the position, most jobs won t go through all this work to acknowledge that the
person they re about to hire is not a complete psycho. Even Alfred changes his point of view on
things while thinking like the employee instead of the boss. The writer admits that if not handing
over your password costs you the job he d take a second thought at how bad he desires to work
there and how happy he would be working there. Edmond admits, I would have to want the job
pretty badly . If the head executives truly want you there, they ll look over you not giving up your

A Social Group
In life, we all play different roles. I am a daughter, niece, friend, student, employee and artist. The
definition of a social group is two or more people who interact on a regular basis in routine ways
and who share a common sense of membership and identity. A social group example would be
classmates in one section of a class and an example of an aggregate would be New Yorkers
riding the subway together. An aggregate is not a group but a collection of people who briefly
share the same physical space but do not see themselves as belonging together. Over the
summer, I auditioned to be part of a theatre company and was asked to join. The name of the
company is called Complete Theatre Company and they do shows and have acting classes three
days a week. I was recently part of their improvisation show Call My Dog . The people in the
class range from ages eighteen to seventy five, normally in the Friday class, they are about 15
people that come, but it depends on the day. It differs week to week. A normal acting class is
formatted by doing physical and vocal warm ups, having a keynote speaker where we talk about
different aspects about the business of acting and then Annie goes around the room and asks us
if we have a scene or a monologue to work on and if we do, we work on them and the class gives
positive feedback. We are a primary group because we are small in number, we interact personally
(we know about each other s personal life) and we show genuine interest and support

Classroom Observation And Discussion
On Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at approximately 11:35AM 2 male students approached me in the
HAAS cafeteria and said Mrs. Mary Grace MCGUIRE, HAAS Nurse, needed me outside her
office area. When I spoke with Mrs. MCGUIRE she stated there was a verbal argument between
2 female students while eating their lunch in the flex area adjacent to her office. The 2 females
were identified as Chantal GUERRERO and Amanda CASTRO, both 11th grade students. I
interviewed CASTRO and she admitted there was a verbal argument between her and
GUERRERO and it was about a boy CASTRO was recently dating. CASTRO told me,
GUERRERO was texting her boyfriend and when she found out about the text she posted a status
on FB indirectly geared toward GUERRERO and she confronted

  • 2. Germination Lab Title: The Effects of Freezing on Germination Rate Introduction: The purpose of this experiment was to discover which species out of three seeds would have the germination rate be the most negatively affected after being frozen for several days. Seed banks store frozen seeds which implied that freezing seeds doesn t cause any major damage to the seeds. However, some species of seeds would probably be more resistant to being frozen than others. Seeds are native to and are grown in many different types of environments some of which are much warmer and colder than others so there seemed to be a possibility that plants from colder environments would produce seeds less susceptible to damage from low temperatures. Experimental Question: How does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were also procedural problems including imprecise measurement of the water at the beginning of the setup, inconsistent seed placement on the paper towels and irregular times at which the seeds were observed and watered. Also, the seeds were placed very close together which resulted in roots growing over into other paper towels and the faster spread of mold. This mold, which began growing on some of the seeds within a few days, was a major factor. Because the mold began to spread to other seeds and because none of the seeds sprouted after mold had grown, the moldy seeds probably should have been removed. There were also a couple breaks in the pattern of observing and watering the seeds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. King Richard Essay King Richard My report is on Richard I, byname Richard the Lion Hearted. He was born September 8, 1157 in Oxford, England. He died on April 6, 1199 in Chalus, England. His knightly manner and his prowess in the Third Crusade(1189 92) made him a popular king in his own time, as well as the hero of countless romantic legends. He has been viewed less kindly by more recent historians and scholars. Richard was the third son of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine, and he was given the duchy of Aquitaine, his mother s inheritance, at the age of 11 and was enthroned as duke at Poitiers in 1172. Richard possessed precocious political and military ability, he won fame for his knightly prowess, and quickly learned how to control the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Richard found the Sicilians hostile, and took Messina by storm(October 4). To prevent the German Emperor Henry VI from ruling their country, the Sicilians had elected the native, Tancred of Lecce, who had imprisoned the late king s wife, Joan of England(Richard s sister), and denied her possession of her dower. By the Treaty of Messina, Richard obtained for Joan her release and her dower, acknowledged Tancred as king of Sicily, declared Arthur of Brittany(Richard s nephew)to be his own heir, and provided for Arthur to marry Tancred s daughter. This treaty infuriated the Germans, who were also taking part in the Third Crusade, and it incited Richard s brother, John, to treachery and rebellion. Richard joined the other crusaders at Acre on June 8, 1191, conquered Cyprus on his way there. While at Limassol in Cyprus, Richard married(May 12)Berengaria of Navarre. Acre fell in July 1191, and on September 7, Richard s brilliant victory at Arsuf put the crusaders in possession of Joppa. Twice Richard led his forces to within o few miles of Jerusalem. But the recapture of the city, which constituted the chief aim of the Third Crusade, eluded him. There were fierce quarrels among the French, German, and English contingents. Richard insulted Leopold V, duke of Austria, by tearing down his banner and quarreled with Philip Augustus, who returned to France after the fall of Acre. Richard s candidate for the crown of ... • 4. The Theme Of Racism In Down At The Cross By James Baldwin The environment surrounding an individual determines reactions and character. Down at the Cross from The Fire Next Time is James Baldwin s memoir pertaining to his life experiences with racism. The author presents an original writing strategy which uses examples and details to reach the main goal of helping the reader discover the main points of the story. The rhetorical style for the second half of the novel furthermore aids Baldwin in his overall purpose of informing Blacks in the 1960 s of how White people, who are incapable of accepting and loving themselves, create a racist environment, which African Americans, despite fear and risk, can conquer with love and strategy. Upon my reflection on the writing, I was pleasantly surprised to find Baldwin has a perspective unlike any other theorist, because he has convinced me to believe with him how the end of racismcan be found in the root cause of the issue. Because Caucasian people are uncomfortable and unconfident with themselves, they consistently persecute and destroy people of African descent. When James Baldwin says some argue Whites must accept Blacks, he counteracts this using procatalepsis suggesting, White people in this country will have quite enough to do in learning how to accept and love themselves and each other, and when they have achieved this which will not be tomorrow and may very well be never the Negro problem will no longer exist (Baldwin 22). The author has brought to my attention how self pity, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this section, LES via vortex method was utilized to investigate the inflow wind velocity fluctuations on the pressure distribution over the roof surface of TTU full scale building. In total, the results of three CFD LES cases are presented in this section as follows: (1) CFD LES at location 7 (TI=25%, TLS=10m); (2) CFD LES at location 7 (TI=30%, TLS=15m); (3) CFD LES at location 3 (TI=25%, TLS=10m). According to the Figure 15 and Figure 16, the results show that the roof peak pressure contours of a full scale building simulated by the developed CFD LES model 1 at location 7 with input parameters of TI=25%, and TLS=10m are very similar to the TTU full scale field measurements. This is again another proof that if an accurate turbulence closure, like LES, and appropriate inlet velocity fluctuations (for instance using vortex method with tuned input parameters) are implemented in CFD, the numerical model can be utilized for appropriate estimation of peak and standard deviation of pressure distributions on low rise buildings within the numerical model. In addition, in all three CFD LES models, high negative pressure values (suction effects) were observed near the corner and edges of the windward side of the roof similar to the TTU field data which are the spots on the roof that separation bubbles start developing in a fluctuating manner. Identifying the extend of these regions will help to design appropriate mitigation features for surpassing the high suctions at corner and edges on the roof. Figure 15 (c) and Figure 16 (c) show that reproducing peak pressures in wind tunnel is, however, a big challenge due to its limitation to correctly reproduce important flow characteristics and inherent scale issue with ... • 7. Compare Contrast Operant Classical Conditioning Learning is any relatively permanent change in behaviour due to experience (Grivas et al, 1999: 318). Conditioning is the acquisition of specific patterns of behaviour in the presence of well define stimuli (Termpapers, 2003: 01). Learning is the unconscious association between two stimuli which brings about stimulus substitution: Classical Conditioning, CC, Pavlov and the encoding of consequences: Operant Conditioning, OC, Skinner (Grivas et al. 1999: 346 349). This essay will compare and contrast the two learning theories, focusing on the main similarities and differences that exist. In both types of conditioning, extinction occurs however they slightly vary in the process (Grivas et al, 1999: 374). In CC, extinction refers to the gradual weakening or disappearance of the CR resulting from the continuos presentation of the CS alone (Grivas at al, 1999: 329). In OC however, the discontinuation of any reinforcement that had once maintained a given behaviour is referred to as extinction (Baldwin, 1998: 57). When reinforcement is withdrawn from the learning process, the frequency or rate of response decreases (Baldwin, 1998: 57). In CC, extinction takes place over a period of time when the UCS is withdrawn (Grivas et al, 1999: 363). Extinction within OC also occurs over time, but following the termination of reinforcement. (Grivas et al, 1999: 363) Another similarity that is present between the two learning theories is spontaneous recovery Extinction in both CC and OC can be interrupted by Spontaneous recovery (Grivas e al, 1999: 374). In CC, spontaneous recovery is the reappearance of a conditioned response when the CS is presented, following a rest period (i.e. when the CS is not presented) after the conditioned response appears to have been extinguished. (Grivas, 1999: 330). Similar to CC, extinction is not permanent in OC. After a period of time in which a stimulus is presented with no following ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the core of this success would be the Contract with America. A set of promises and goals devised by conservative congressional representative Newt Gingrich. Historian Russell Kirk believes there are six basic tenets of all conservatism. To begin conservatives believe in a transcendent order or body of natural law, which rules society as well as conscience. Political problems at their roots are religious and or moral problems (9). The ideal that religion and morality can have influence over political and social problems is widely seen in the United States. The Republicans are often the choice of people with conservative Christian ideology. Another important tenet of conservatism is a respect for the proliferating variety of human existence, as opposed to the uniformity aims of most radical systems. Conviction that civilized society requires orders and classes (Kirk 9). This is reflected in American conservatism belief that economic leveling in inherently wrong. In the belief that economic leveling is wrong, conservatives also believe strongly in protecting the rights of private property owners. In addition, conservatives have a recognition that changes may not be salutary reform. Belief that custom and convention are checks on radical change that could be harmful to society (Kirk 8). These tenets are seen in American conservatism. In the fact that American conservative parties have always been opposed to radical reform, such was the case when Franklin D. Roosevelt proposed and enacted sweeping government intervention in his New Deal legislation. In order to better understand conservatism one must consider ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The words separate and peace represent a variety of ideas in Knowles novel, especially for Gene, Phineas, and Leper. This quote was when Finny did not get in trouble at the Master s Tea for dressing against school code because he talked his way out of it. This was when the rivalry between Gene and what he believed was Finny, but was really only one sided (Finny had no thoughts pertaining to this) started. This is a very rare peace. I hardly ever see where someone finds peace by envying and wanting major personal competition with their close friends. The full picture of Gene s peace included being top dog, doing the best in school, aiming for valedictorian, and having no opposition from anyone else. Most inward peace hinges on upbeat feelings, but Gene s character is different. His self peace came only after he had gotten rid of the one person he was jealous of and was completely rid of any anger or hatred. This portrayal of setting develops the fear of the unknown because it is the exact opposite of what Mars was believed to look like. (Beck and Davis) The direct effect that focusing the mind on the present moment has on reducing anxiety and its symptoms are largely important. The idea of not controlling one s thoughts, but redirecting them to the present moment is a fairly hard concept for most people to fully understand. Redirecting one s thoughts to the present moment distracts the mind from any worry some or anxiety inducing thoughts or feelings, without giving attention to them. The redirection of thoughts essentially keeps the mind occupied, which means the mind has less time to spend worrying or cultivating anxiety inducing scenarios in one s mind. In relation to the redirection of thoughts being effective in reducing anxiety, it also has been proven to reduce physical symptoms of anxiety or discomfort. By reverting attention away from pre existing physical discomforts, these same discomforts are given time to subside, which they typically do immensely, solely because it isn t the focus of one s attention. Armstrong goes through each of the stories of Genesis and interprets what each story is about and how we can relate it to our own lives. The book of Genesis can be difficult to understand and it holds many mysteries within it, but with the help of Karen Armstrong, we are able to understand the stories of Genesis and what they mean. This is the story of the Bible s first book, raw and unchurched. Karen introduces us one by one to the characters and their stories, making no effort to turn them into saints, for they are nothing like the impossibly and depressingly flawless characters we met in Sunday School. Throughout, the authors of Genesis remind us that we can expect no clear cut answers. We wrestle with the text, measuring its inconsistent doctrines and contradictory lessons, as we struggle to grasp the character of God. How can God be omnipotent, but powerless to control his creation? How can God be benevolent but a killer; wise but arbitrary; just but partial and unfair; omniscient but ignorant of human yearning? • 16. Onboarding Research Paper Effective Onboarding Orientation and onboarding are crucial when training and developing new employees. Both are gateways into high work performance, a closer work environment, and encourages employee retention. Orientation is the process of familiarizing new employees with the organization, their jobs, and their work units. It influences the employee s attitude about their role, responsibilities, job related tasks, and explains the organization s rules. Onboarding is the process of socializing the new employees to help integrate them into the organization. New hires are at a higher rate of quitting, the usage of onboarding is what many companies today have neglected. According to Sujan Patel, the author of: How to Create an Effective Onboarding... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Patel explains the first mistake is lack of structure. By that he means onboarding is not a one size fits all process. It differs business to business, so he suggests to learn from mistakes and adapt the onboarding program through trial and error. This can be done by taking notes and adjusting accordingly. Drafts of what was done and how it went should be kept documented so they can be changed and/or referenced to. Another mistake Patel points out is the lack of focus on culture. Company culture is just as important as paperwork and job responsibilities. On the job success comes from the interaction between employees and the building of their relationships within the company s culture. Placing the newcomer with other employees that fit their personality is highly recommended. The employee will feel more comfortable and other employees will be more accepting. Socialization among the employees increase productivity, because the employees are happier and healthier relationship wise. This creates overall more motivation in the workplace. Another practice companies that use onboarding fall into, is having too high expectations. When employing a new employee, employers tend to get much too eager and stressed on hurrying up the acclimation process during onboarding. rushing this process can shortcut the training and overload the newcomer with too much responsibility without the knowhow on where to start or who to go to. This can lead to overly stressed employees, poor work quality, and a low retention rate. It is best to match the quality of work the employer expects with the amount of training that will be given to the employee. If an employee is not keeping up with production the employer will be able to monitor that and deal with it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. The Line Of Ham The Line of Ham 10: 6 20 DIG: What was significant about the descendants of Ham in relation to the Jewish people? Who was the key person to come through the line of Ham? Why was he so important? REFLECT: Is there a part of your life that identifies with the line of Ham? Do you have a friend, family member or relative that seems like he or she came from the line of Ham? What can you do? What is beyond your control? The descendants of Ham migrated for the most part to northeast Africa, especially Egypt, the eastern Mediterranean region, and southern Arabia. Eventually, they formed the eastern and southern people of Mesopotamia. The descendants of Canaan settled in the area that the LORD later promised to give to the descendants of Shem.187 The four sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put and Canaan (10:6). The sons enumerated all became heads of clans whose land was promised to Abraham. The first son is Cush; the Cushites settled in the land of the upper Nile south of Egypt in Nubia and Ethiopia. Therefore, Cush and Ethiopia are interchangeable in the Bible. They intermarried with Semitic tribes living in the same region, so there is some repetition of the names in other lines. Everyone experiences the journey of a hero, which is the common template of a timeline/plot in which a hero is transformed after a battle of self discovery. The fiction novel also brings light to the many abstract themes/motifs the book has to offer. For example, omens are one of the main concepts that are revealed throughout the journey. Working together with the hormone glucagon cortisol raises blood sugar levels to power up your muscles and your brain! Remember you have been fasting overnight and blood sugar levels will be low. The brain demands the body do this and keep blood sugar levels stabilized. Cortisol and fat accumulation A little piece of data you need to know to lose fat. Analysis Of Herbert Hoover s The Great Gatsby This script presents as a historical, character driven drama that explores an interesting part of Herbert Hoover s life as a secretary and mining scout in Australia. The tone is consistently dramatic with a nice element of wit and humor. The era, culture, and time period feel authentic and believable. The historical information feels well researched. Hoover s goal to become rich and marry the woman of his dreams is well established and drives Hoover s actions. Will the story has the potential to be a compelling drama, the script would benefit from more development, especially in the area of structure, pace, and tension. First, the opening begins when Hoover is handing over his Presidency and then flashbacks back in time. This is a workable structure, although the opening scene doesn t immediately grab the attention of the audience. It s heavy with dialogue and doesn t highlight the emotion of Hoover. The first act is driven by Hoover s quest for a job so that he can marry the woman he loves. The first act is a bit repetitive in dialogue, as his friends repeatedly counsel him about meeting with Lou s father and what to do and say. Hoover also tends to repeat his goal several times about getting rich and marrying Lou (page 17 and page 20 are examples). The second act is driven by Hoover s job in Australia. This is due to a vast range of improvements and innovations. One major enhancement in an aircraft is its fuel efficiency; this was obtained through years of in depth research, engine development, avionics and its aerodynamics. The effect that the aviation industry has had on the environment has been relatively small but due to the increase in demands the emissions released by these aircrafts will increase as a result of this. • 25. Gender Roles In Frederick Douglass The endeavor to escape slavery was an idea that pondered in the minds of slaves. While slavery influenced both genders emotionally, physically, and educationally, ultimately only the male gender was able to comprehend what it would be like to be able to flee slavery. Men took charge and became independent being able to leave slavery, whereas the women were more dependent as wives and mothers, which caused them to not be able to getaway. Douglass and Jacobs works proved this to be true as the reader sees their experiences as a slave fluctuate based on their gender. Through Douglass encounters as a slave we see how important it is for a male to participate in physical labor and then through Jacobs story, one is able to see how women were used mostly by their masters sexually. Once Abolition started everyone thought it would better the lives of men and women, but boy were they mistaken. In Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl and Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, the authors vary in the way that the men are able to escape slavery easier than woman because of the expectations of gender roles during the time and that is what shaped these two works. Importance Of Canadian Literature Studying Literature in Grade 12 In this essay, I will prove that graduating students in Ontario should only study Canadian literature in a Grade 12 English course. While good writers exist in all cultures, Ontario students should only study Canadian writers. Becoming more familiar with our literature. Three reasons for this are; the need to focus on our own Canadian culture despite being surrounded by other cultures: the need to promote and establish our own writers, and the need to encourage younger Canadian authors. I believe that students in Ontario taking English should only study Canadian literature because we are completely swamped by the American culture around us. I think that this is a Canadian tradition because we have always been a branch plant of another country starting with England and France meaning that our own culture has never had the chance to develop since we have always been under the thumb of a more powerful foreign culture. So, for years, a student in Ontario would study Shakespeare and other British writers, today they may also study American authors such as Hemingway. But many schools limit a student s exposure to the Canadian novel to ISP reading lists. Men and women of the Pikuni tribes were known by their honor, it they were given names based on their glories in battle, and they were brought up with a furious devotion to their tribe. In a way, the entire relationship between Fools Crow and Fast Horsereflected the role of honor in Pikuni Culture. Throughout the story, Fools Crow showed time after time his devotion to the Lone Eaters. Whether it was on the horse raid, the war party, or his spiritual quests, he proved that his main focus was on the amelioration of his tribe. However, Fast Horse, on the other hand, proved right from the start that he did not care about the tribe s interest he was only focused on his personal glory. Moreover, he wanted honor and glory to simply be given to him, instead of earning it through selfless action. Ultimately, Fast Horse gave up on the Loner Eaters in search or an easier path to glory, and was shunned by his people. The contrast in the transformations of Fools Crow and Fast Horse is the best example of the value of honor in Pikuni society. Rides at the door, Fools Crow s father, shows us another example of honor in the story. He is not a chief, yet the Pikunis put great value his input. Much like Fools Crow, when he was a young man, he stole horses and fought amongst his fellow Pikuni in battle against their enemy even as an older man he bravely went into battle to defend the honor of Yellow Kidney. ... The incident that takes place in the morning room. In my opinion, the movie is more enjoyable because of the events is more clear and it allows viewer to understand. • 40. Psychoanalytic And Psychodynamic Theory Of Personality Psychoanalytic/ Psychodynamic: The psychodynamic perspective focuses on the role of the unconscious mind in the development of personality. Freud believed that the personality develops in a series of five stages that develop the three divisions of personality. In the oral stage, the fixation is in the mouth, and would be the cause of his introverted nature; likewise, in the anal stage, Roberto would discover his reserved nature, while the phallic stage, he would further refine his reserved nature as a sense of humility in his actions, also defining his mild mannered portion of his personality. In the latency stage, his social skills would refined and he would become introverted. Freud would think that Roberto s mild mannered, reserved, and invertedness is caused by intense suppressing of the id by the ego, having Roberto adopt the personality that he does; however, Karen Horney would classify Roberto s personality in respect to her theory of neurotic personalities personalities typified by maladaptive ways of dealing with relationships with moving away from people by withdrawing from personal relationships. Behaviorism: The behaviorist perspective of personality focuses on the effect of the environment on behavior. Based on the theories of Skinner and Pavlov, Roberto has his personality because of his past experiences in a social environment. B.F. • 41. Cultural Potluck Day Of My Life It was about a year or two ago, I was giving my closet a much needed makeover, when I came across a dusty brown box shoved far, far in the back. Intrigued, I hauled the heavy box onto my dresser and took a peek inside coming across a collection of tired faded photos of my family. I ve always found that looking through my family albums gave me sense of nostalgic pleasure. Photos gave me a way to immerse myself into my favourite moments in life. The different milestones I had met, the celebrations of people I loved both past and present, and the places I had seen were all documented and gave me proof that they had actually occurred. But I digress, potluck day (more like potunluck day if you ask me) was pretty much torturous when you lived in very WASPy community. But I was not aware of that until my mother found me and my friend Soyeon in tears after the event. The day before, me and Soyeon had worked tirelessly with our mothers to create the BEST samosa and kimchi noodle dishes that the seasoning deprived kids of class 208 had ever tasted. And what did we get for our valiant and benevolent efforts? A sad uneaten tray of Samosas and a yellow tupperware box filled with kimchi noodles. I still don t understand what could possibly compel someone to scoff at a samosa while drooling over a jelly sandwich. I remember crying to my mother that night about the pure ... • 42. Rene Descartes Second Meditation Essay RenГ© Descartes, a rationalist philosopher finds uncertainty in almost everything, including his senses, memory, body and the physical world. Everything besides the fact he himself is a res cogitans (thinking thing). He puts forth this idea in his second meditation of his most famous works, Meditations On First Philosophy, published in 1641. This analytic style of writing opens by considering any belief that was the slightest bit doubtful, as false. Descartes felt the need for this hyperbolic doubt in order to reach an impartial truth. He then takes you through the thoughtprocess that led him to the one thing that lies beyond all doubt. He finds certainty in the statement Cogito, ergo sum or I think, therefore I am. FOOTNOTE The first Meditation in Descartes Meditations On First Philosophy, is based on doubting almost everything he once believed as true. When Descartes found that beliefs he had were false, he realized all of his beliefs could be threatened. He embraced scepticism and refused to accept anything that it is possible to... The problem with using these terms are you then have to go on to define what man and rational mean. FOOTNOTE In the first meditation, Descartes casts his soul, its capability and his body into doubt. Descartes wonders if this means he simply does not exist? Although for him to convince himself that his beliefs are false, he must exist. • 43. Langston Hughes and Jesse B. Simple Lansgton Hughes and Jesse B. Semple In the early 1940s an African American writer by the name of Langston Hughes, who flourished during the Harlem Renaissance in New York, had established a character in his short story writings named Jesse B. Semple. Through these short stories he used this character to represent the black man of his times. However the question remains, is Jesse B. Semple an accurate representation of the black man of 1940s? This question can best be answered by looking at the conditions of society during that time period, what the mind set of the black man in that era and comparing it to the representation that Hughes created with Jesse B. Semple. Langston Hughes was born on February 1st, 1902 in Joplin, Missouri. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His characteristics were that he had little formal education, but he had a lot of common sense and could see the truth in many situations. In many ways Langston Hughes used Semple and his stories to project the voice of all the black men of that time. Semple touched on issues such as racism, interracial marriages and any other important issues that showed what it meant to be black during that period. Hughes took every issue that he felt was necessary in the accurate representation of the Negro man, and projected through the life of Semple. Hughes also took the name Semple and often called him, Simple to emphasize how simple his life seemed at a glance, but in fact it was not simple at all. The events Jesse B. Semple went through in his stories and his opinions and views of what was going on in the world showed a certain irony that the society of that time had for them. With the stories of Jesse B. Semple and his, simple life, he felt he had captured the mindset of every black man of the 1940s, because he felt most black men in 1940s were bound to the same characteristics which Semple had. Now fully understanding the life and inspirations of Langston Hughes, the society and mind set of the black man in the 1940s, and the representation that Jesse B. Semple held for the black men of that time, we can answer the question: Is Jesse B. Semple an accurate representation of the black man of the 1940s? When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Cell Phones Are Ordinary Today Cell phones are ordinary today. Very nearly everybody has one. My grandma conveys an iPhone and my dad a man who once swore he d never convey a telephone with him anyplace slaps a Samsung Galaxy S III with an OtterBox case on his hip each morning. It wasn t generally so. I was the main individual at my secondary school educators and organization included with a cell phone. To start with, I had the Moto Q, then the BlackBerry Pearl 8130, trailed by the Curve 8330. Furthermore, that is the place my story started, in 2006, taking lesson notes (read: playing Brick Breaker and Asteroids) on an incredible QWERTY console about a large portion of the palm s extent of my hand. Trust it or not, cell phone history backtracks over 10 years before that. Things were ... intriguing in those days. In the first place, what is a cell phone? Turns out, the real definition, regardless of the source, is very ambiguous. Merriam Webster compactly calls a cell phone a PDA that incorporates extra programming capacities (as email or an Internet program). Oxford Dictionaries, then again, gets somewhat more exact by saying a cell phone has the capacity perform a hefty portion of the elements of a PC, commonly having a moderately expansive screen and a working framework equipped for running universally useful applications. In any case, there is an almost negligible difference between what is and isn t a cell phone nowadays, regardless of the fact that the purported moronic or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Themes Of Sexuality In The Odd Couple By Neil Simon Sexuality is very difficult to write about, and only the greatest can tackle this class without making the subject cliche. Neil Simon spent the majority of his life composing plays and making himself as one of America s greatest authors. With his lifelong commitment to writing came the establishment of many different themes throughout his works. In The Odd Couple, Simon uses the bonds between the characters and subtext to display the difficulties of sexuality as well as the progression made through change. Felix and Oscar, the main characters of The Odd Couple, have long been thought to be homosexual by readers and critics, yet many are not sure about this idea. The main reason to believe that the two are gay is that Oscar Madison is a self assured slob, Felix Ungar a sexually inhibited, obsessively neat neurotic (Teachout). Of course, with this belief that the two may have a more than platonic relationship comes the skepticism of others. The show itself was set during a time where many were not openly homosexual, and the two men were once married. This fact dissuades many from believing the idea that the characters are closeted gay men. Although many do disagree with the fact that there is queer subtext in the show, it is rather evident if looked at through the perspective of the men being homosexual. Although there are many skepticisms about the characters sexuality, it can be shown through the words they say and what they mean that the men have deeper feelings. A ... • 47. A Social Group In life, we all play different roles. I am a daughter, niece, friend, student, employee and artist. The definition of a social group is two or more people who interact on a regular basis in routine ways and who share a common sense of membership and identity. A social group example would be classmates in one section of a class and an example of an aggregate would be New Yorkers riding the subway together. An aggregate is not a group but a collection of people who briefly share the same physical space but do not see themselves as belonging together. Over the summer, I auditioned to be part of a theatre company and was asked to join. The name of the company is called Complete Theatre Company and they do shows and have acting classes three days a week. I was recently part of their improvisation show Call My Dog . The people in the class range from ages eighteen to seventy five, normally in the Friday class, they are about 15 people that come, but it depends on the day. It differs week to week. A normal acting class is formatted by doing physical and vocal warm ups, having a keynote speaker where we talk about different aspects about the business of acting and then Annie goes around the room and asks us if we have a scene or a monologue to work on and if we do, we work on them and the class gives positive feedback. We are a primary group because we are small in number, we interact personally (we know about each other s personal life) and we show genuine interest and support ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
