Essay on The Symbolism of the Piano in The Piano
The Symbolism of the Piano in The Piano
The piano has been inextricably linked with the roles and expectations of women in British
society since its advent in the mid 1700s to the late 1800s when rising standards of living made
it more accessible to middle class society. Pianos were regarded as secure icons of social distinction
1 and a wife was viewed similarly as a possession of privatization, success and respectability. 2
Pianos were instrumental in both reinforcing gender roles and as delineators of class distinction
thus perpetuating the class system. 3
While concentrating primarily on Ada, this essay will discuss the symbolism of the piano in The
Piano expressed through the relationship with each of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The piano is in fact an extension of herself and this connection is emphasised by the fact that the
longest gaze in the film is given not to a man looking on a woman but to a woman gazing on a
supposedly inanimate object. This gaze emphasises the isolation that she herself feels at this
moment.
Literature is strewn with references to pianos 6 and its feminine characteristics make it an
obvious symbol of the vulnerability and treatment of women. It assumes a feminine role in The
Piano. Men of both cultures treat it roughly: Maori manhandle it through the bush, and thump
unmusically on it when it is moved to Stewart s house; Stewart keeps time coarsely on its frame
as Flora plays for him. Baines acquaintances too, clearly regard it as unmanly to learn to play the
piano. The physicality of the piano and its connection to Ada s body is emphasised on many
occasions by both Ada and Baines: by Baines who bargains parts of Ada s piano in return for
parts of her body he is given permission to touch and see and who, in Ada s absence, strips naked
to delicately and lovingly dust the piano; by Ada writing on the A key Ada loves George ; and
when barricaded into the house by Stewart and cannot see Baines in person, she removes a key
(G) from the piano and inscribes on it Dear George, you have my heart. Ada McGrath. .
Ada communicates in three ways: through Flora by

The Pros And Cons Of Conscription
Conscription was a very controversial issue considering the outcomes of this law. It would force
men to provide overseas military service unwillingly. Non compulsory recruitment was neglecting
to keep up troop numbers and as an imperialist Prime Minister Sir Robert Borden believed that the
war was the only way for Canadato be seen as more than a colony.
Many French Canadians, farmers, pacifists and union heads opposed the conscription bill, but
Prime Minister Borden was determined to establish a forced conscription system. He pushed
through the Conscription Act on July 11th, 1917.
The Wartime Elections Act and the Military Voters Act impacted the upcoming election on the

The underlying basis for the inclusion of foundation subjects within early years and primary

Stories such as When Grandma Was Young (Humphrey, 2000), Elmer and Grandpa Eldo (Mckee,
2001) and My Granny is a Pirate (Mcdermid and Robins, 2012) can invoke interest with early years
children and inspire them to become inquisitive about the past. It has been suggested that time
means nothing to young children. However learning to ask and answer questions through story
reading will enhance their concept history. Therefore continuing to do so through the Early
Learning Goals will prepare children, entering at primary level, to appreciate the importance of
history (Lunn and Bishop, 2004).
It is important to remember to children do not stop learning history when they finish their time at
primary school. Maintained secondary schools follow the NC which maintains that all children will
continue to learn history by means of the KS3 History Programmes of Study (2013). Therefore it is
important to prepare children for more challenging and precise history learning. New topics shall be
introduced so it is important children have the skills to identify significant events, make
connections, draw contrasts, and analyse trends (p.72). It is, furthermore, defined that pupils will
pursue historically valid enquiries including some they have framed themselves (p.72). This

Essay on The Struggle Towards a Democratic Nation
The Struggle Towards a Democratic Nation Education Position Paper
The Struggle Towards a Democratic Nation Imperialism of one sort or another has been occurring
for centuries around the world. In the U.S. a specific form of imperialism is in full effect but is less
noticeable than the normative physical imperialism. Linguistic imperialism occurs when a
dominant group imposes their language on another, and within the United States this imperialism
has been occurring through English. English is the language set up by the American society to be
the dominant official language. America is supposed to be the melting pot of different languages and
cultures but there is a specific connection between English speakers and dominance over ... Show

This soon led the white population .... to justify the exclusion from full participation in their
sanctioned community those who were not like them, whether because of religious, national, or
racial differences (Babb 58). Early writers like William Bradford used words like savage and
brutish to describe the Native Americans (Babb 61). In calling them savage and brutish he
exudes the sentiment that the people he is writing this for (white colonials) are non savage and
non brutish. Another example is Cotton Mather s The Negro Christianized. In this book he
argues that while it is very important for slaves to be baptized it is equally important to maintain
social order by baptizing them into subservience (Babb 65). The Life and Captivity of Mrs. Mary
Rowlandson is an example of the captivity narrative, which was also a very influential genre. In
telling how she was captured by Native Americans she never recognizes them as human beings only
describes them as savages, heathen and hell hounds . These literary examples are among many that
create a hierarchy privileging the white English speaking people, and they set the stage for
linguistic imperialism in the United States.

How to Lose an Account

determining the customer s satisfaction that led to the loss of the customer? Was the problem
simply a lack of satisfaction with the product? Using concepts from the chapter, describe how the
customer s value equation was influenced by the experiences both before the call and during the call.
Companies in all industries and of all sizes understand that customers are perhaps their most
valuable assets. Improving the overall customer experience is vital for continued success and
survival, and always has been.
In the words of many industry professionals, losing a customer is the absolute worst thing that

In order to have a successful long term relationship the most important thing is to have mutual
trust. Because without trust ( partners can trust and depend on each other, resolve problems as
they arise and settle differences between them when it necessary) unhappy customers will not
stay loyal to the company and will go out to our competitors. According to J. Tanner trust is a
belief by one party that the other party will fulfill its obligations in a relationship (p.362). When
we earned the trust of the other party, our relationship is strong and we do not need to constantly
monitor each other s actions because both believe that other parties will act in a way that is best
for both parties. But trust only is not enough, which is why it is a combination of five factors:
dependability, competence, customer orientation, honesty and likability. As we can see, Tony did
not possess the honesty factor. When Sharon Collins raise the problems about the copiers, Tony
was also aware of the problem but hadn t processed the request to replace the copiers yet and he
was told to say that the company was reviewing the problem and the problem would be solved in
one way or another. The problem occurs when Sharon called the service director to explain the
problem, Tony hemmed and hawed and avoided answering the question, and as a result he was
being dishonest. Honesty is both truthfulness and sincerity and honesty is related to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Computer Essay

What is computer? Does everyone know what computer is? What is its function? Computer is the
most probably used technology in our generation which is 21st century. But does anyone know
what are computer and its function in our society? According to Margaret Rouse (2005), she said
that a computer is a device that accepts information (in the form of digitalized data) and
manipulates it for some result based on a program or sequence of instructions on how the data is
to be processed. Complex computers also include the means for storing data (including the
program, which is also a form of data) for some necessary duration. A program may be invariable

Every technology has a good and bad effect on us like computers, but first let me start on its
advantages. The advantages of computers are, it perform different tasks quickly and easily, it
also saves time and effort and reduces the overall cost to complete a particular task, can be used
for business purposes, it enhances communication and availability of information, it is an
inexpensive system, and It increases cost efficiency. Second are its disadvantages, computer
increases the unemployed people of the country since different tasks are performed automatically
by using computers. It reduces the need of people and increases unemployment in society.
Wastage of time and energy because many people use computers without positive purpose, they
play games and chat for a long period of time. It causes wastage of time and energy. Computer

This quote talks about Princess Edlyn and her struggle that she has with her parents. Since
Edlyn was born first she is the first in line for the throne. When she becomes queen she will
make history as being the first queen of Illea. Before she was born there used to be a caste
system where you were born you were given a certain occupation and everyone born after that
had to follow in the same footsteps. The people of Illea could only work certain jobs or marry
certain people according to whatever rank they were even. Edlyns father was born a 1 since he
was royal and the system goes down to 8. Since Edlyn s father Maxon became king he removed
the caste system and all of the people seem to be happy about this choice. 20 years late though,

Brown V Board Of Education
Landmark Supreme Court Cases пЃ¬Brown v Board of Education (1954) пѓ The Background: In
the 1950 s, schools were separated by race. Linda Brown and her sister had to walk down a
dangerous railroad switchyard to get to the bus stop to their all black elementary school. There was
an all white school closer to the Brown s house, and the Brown family believed that segregated
schools violated the Constitution. пѓ The Constitutional Issue: This issue violated the Equal
Protection Clause of the Fourteenth amendment because segregated schools for people of race are
unconstitutional and unequal. пѓ The Outcome: The Supreme Court states that segregated schools
could never be equal to each other. The Court decided that laws requiring separate schools
violated the Fourteenth Amendment. This decision supports that all people are equal. As a
student, I am affected because people of different race are welcome to go to school where I go to

The Goals And Philosophy Of Art
Goals and Philosophy:
Visual Merchandisers have many employment options available in many different sectors. I
believe that displays are all encompassing. It is the little details that culminate a theme or feel
that makes customers want to shop at a particular store and have a certain type of experience
depending on who they are. It is all about making an environment whether a store, a party, a
home, etc. as inviting and welcoming as possible. I strongly believe that there is so much
inspiration out there that can be used to create compelling store displays that provoke consumers
to shop and help maximize a store s profits. This is an interesting field where not only are artistic
skills necessary, but also the ability to merchandise the sales floor and make every visual aspect of
a store experience enjoyable.
My art is inspired by popular culture, the work of other artists in similar fields, and the work of
surrealist artists. The prospect of being able to have a job that comprises of creativity and a
unique perspective motivates me to pursue a career in art and design. I want to be able to have a
job that I feel is rewarding and where each day is somewhat different from the next which is
possible with visual merchandising because retail is always changing visually to keep up with trends
and seasons.
In the short term I hope to get a visual merchandising internship or job where I can get more
experience and use my skills that I have learned, in the retail environment. In

Clinton V. Trump s Presidential Election
Clinton V. Trump This year s presidential election has been riddled with controversy and drama.
The two presidential nominees, Hillary Clinton, and Donald Trump, each have questionable
acts. As voting time approaches and the debates come to an end many individuals must decide
who is fit to run the country. By considering their backgrounds, verifying the validity of their
policies, and brining into consideration their performance in the debates, a suitable president
should be found. Born in Chicago, Hillary Clinton grew up in a middle class family living in the
suburbs of Illinois. Clinton first attended Wellesley College, then continued her education at
Yale. In 1972 Hillary Clinton was one of 27 women in her graduating class, with a degree in Law
she moved to Arkansas. While in Arkansas she became a member of the Arkansas University
faculty, teaching law. After becoming first lady in 1992, Clinton spent her time fighting for
children and women s rights, working with CHIP to provide affordable healthcare. In 2000
Clinton served as the first female senator of New York. (Everything You need to Know About

prediction, the originally predict accommodations was 91,000 visitors, including 10,000
temporary seats. The stadium dominated 258,000 square meters of space and was constructed
with 36 km of unwrapped steel, weighting about 45,000tonnes. The surface of the National
stadium was designed by covering a colossal saddle shaped elliptic steel, with a hanging roof. The

The objective of the stadium can be considered as two levels including national level and project
level. For the national level, the stadium is designed for a landmark building by mixture of
Chinese art and traditional cultures. This is also to increase the recognition and awareness of 2008
Beijing Olympic. For the project level, the construction needs to meet all technical requirements
and all athletes demands. (Ke, 2014, p. 90 91). Also, the objective of such a project should be

Analysis Of The Poem The Fountain
Tommy in the Fountain is a character faced with the dilemma of mortality in the physical realm and
can not accept the grim, inevitable death that faces all of humankind. In the world of The fountain,
there are three planes of existence which correlate to the past, present, and future/consciousness.
Darren Aronofsky intertwines these three times periods creating a nonlinear perspective of time, but
it is in line with the general plot of the movie. Aronofsky wants the viewer to link the time periods
together where the past is the story depicted in the book, and the futurecan be seen as his
consciousness. A character that stays apparent in these settings is Izzi. Izzi guides the main
character to accept the grim fate of death and to reach a state of knowledge which will potentially
enlighten him. She helps Tommy understand the meaning of death by bringing the immediacy and
expectancy, and forcing Tommy to finish it, referring to the book and his understanding of death.
Completing the book results in the journey that Tommy takes to enlightenment, the acceptance.
The relationship between these characters really create the whole importance of realizing death is
ultimately an act of creation. Present day Tommy is faced with a cancer stricken Izzi where she is
enlightened during her death and immortalized . Izzi is also depicted as the tree of life in Tommy
s consciousness and Queen Elizabeth of Spain. The Tree of Life is a symbol of immortality, with
Izzi dying in the

Explain Why Juveniles Should Be Tried As Adults
Juveniles should be tried as adults because they only serve a few years in prison, they deserve a

adults because they only serve a few years in prison for doing harsh things. Manuel Sanchez and
John Duncan committed a bloody murder by shooting a man several times in the chest, and John

the easier it is to get guns and drugs, the easier it will be for people for under the age of eighteen to
commit a serious crime. Also, it states in the article that kids are committing crimes and not caring
as much because they know that they are under the age of eighteen and they know that they will
not get as in much trouble as they would if they were tried as adults. But, if they were tried as
adults the crime rate of kids under the age of eighteen would decrease in a huge way. That is

The Real World During Quantum-Mechanical Experiments
We ve already discussed some of the experimental phenomena that inspire competing interpretations
or theories of what s going on in the real world during quantum mechanical experiments. (In brief:
Observing microscopic particles seems to either: cause them to randomly take one result or the
other; create a branching world for every possible outcome; or require hidden variables and allow
for faster than light, nonlocal communication. Particles seem not to take one path, not the other, not
both, and not neither, and even act as if they know when we re observing them.)
In this final installment of a three article series, we ll look in very broad strokes at some of the
philosophical implications of these views of quantum mechanics.
I. Logic
Standard logic is two valued. That just means that each sentence in the logic is true or false, not
both, and not neither. My cat s breath smells like cat food is either true or false; it can t both smell
that way and not smell that way at the same time to the same person, and surely it either does or it
doesn t. But as we ve seen, some interpretations of quantum mechanics might suggest adding in a
new value.1 Perhaps Copenhagen style interpretations indicate that we should have a value of
neither a truth value gap and Copenhagen and many worlds interpretations indicate that we should
have a value of both: a truth value glut. 2 As it happens, there are independent philosophical
reasons to explore three or four valued logics (and

The Shawshank Redemption And American Psycho
Psychology by definition is the scientific study of the human mind and its functions, especially
those affecting behavior in a given context. Every brain is biologically and chemically different,
and how these chemicals react in your brain and body can have an effect on the person s
characteristics. The two movies that I chose to watch were The Shawshank Redemptionand
American Psycho. In The Shawshank Redemption there is a clear case of a mentally healthy
character and in American Psycho there is a very definitive sign of a character with a mental
disorder. In The Shawshank Redemption, Andy Dufresne is portrayed by Tim Robbinsand in
American Psycho, Patrick Bateman is played by Christian Bale. The Shawshank Redemption came
out in 1994 and has been named one of the best movies to be produced. Shawshank provides a
display of a mentally healthy character, Andy Dufresne, who was convicted for murdercharges on
his wife and her lover. Andy is sentenced to two consecutive life sentences, so needless to say he
will be spending a long time in prison. Before Andy was convicted, he was a hot shot banker
who made a surplus of money but people also claim he fell out of love with his wife. Not
showing his wife enough attention led her to have an affair and then allegedly Andy found out and
murdered the both of them. The only problem with Andy being sentenced to prison for the murder
is the fact that he did not actually do it and he was falsely convicted for a crime he did

I thought someone could get syphilis by contacting a surface that an infected person touched.
Syphilis is almost always transmitted by unprotected vaginal, oral, anal sexual activity, or from
mother to newborn during delivery. It is usually transmitted when open lesions on an infected
person come into contact with the mucous membranes or skin abrasions of the partner s body
during sexual activity. It may also be contracted by touching an infectious chancre. In the primary
stage of syphilis, a hard, round, ulcer like lesion appears at the site of infection two to four weeks
after contact. A few months later, the secondary stage begins. A skin rash develops that darken after
a while and burst, oozing a discharge. The spirochetes continue to multiply and burro into the

the department table. Now, it leads to transitive dependencies as department name was
determined by department id and did not depend on the primary key. Hence to bring the table to
3NF I made a separate department table and added a junction table to link product and
department. (3) The employee table had a start and end date. This did not cater to the face that
multiple employs could have the same start and end date and also an employee could resign and
join again. Also, the salary could change depending on his tenure. To address this and get the
table to 1NF, I made a separate entity for employee tenure making employee id as the foreign
key linking the employee table. (4) The order table had a primary key order id and columns for
state and tax. The tax was dependent on non key column state and hence the table violated 3NF.
Hence I separated the state and tax columns in a separate column and linked it to the orders table.
(5) The order table initially was designed to include billing. With the provision of a bill to be
cleared in multiple transactions the billing could have multiple values and hence was made a
separate entity to bring it to 1NF. The new billing table also has various columns for billing date,

A Research On Technology Management
Technology Management It is the innovation in the working environment permits organizations to
grow rapidly and effectively. Business innovation, for example, video conferencing, interpersonal
organizations and virtual office innovation has evacuated work environment limits that
beforehand constrained business development. With business innovation, organizations can
focus on a more extensive client base and develop to larger amounts. Office innovation spares
times by accelerating the work process. Computerized documenting frameworks spare space,
paper and printing costs. The utilization of computerised systems like robots permit remedies to
be made in a flash. Assets like electronic records and access to data innovation are accessible with
the snap of a catch. (Scott, n.d.) Haigh s have all the computerised facilities to run a business
including taking orders online. Now there is the introduction of a new technology named Baxter
the robot. A cooperative robot designed to work securely alongside people, will make his debut at
Haigh s Adelaide factory just after the chocolatier s busy Easter period and is advertised to
revolutionise Australia s manufacturing industry. Baxter was created by Adelaide born Rodney

value point, Baxter offers six central contrasts that recognize it from customary mechanical robots:

Guilty In William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Good afternoon and thank you for making some time to read this latter. After a long day of
arguments, theories, and Ideas, all jurors (Including me) came to the conclusion the boy was
innocent. It was a complicated case, everyone voted for guilty at the beginning, but in the end not
guilty was the final verdict. I will show evidence to support the not guilty verdict. Everyone made
the right decision by setting the boy free. A big point we discussed was we couldn t just say the
boy was guilty right after court was over; we had to discuss and analyze the evidence. But a big
factor was the background story of the boy. I said, Look, this kid s been kicked around all of his
life. You know, born in a slum. Mother dead since he was nine. He lived for a year and a half in an
orphanage when his father was serving a jail term for forgery. That s not a very happy beginning.
He s a wild, angry kid, and that s all he s ever been. And you know why, because he s been hit on
the head by somebody once a day, every day. He s had a pretty miserable... Show more content on

Most of the jurors believed the old man testimony, but for me something wasn`t right, so expressed
my thought with everyone in the room. I said, I think this is what happened: the old man had
heard the fight between the boy and his father a few hours earlier. Then, while lying in bed, he
heard a body hit the floor in the boy s apartment, and he heard the woman scream from across the
street. He got up, he tried to get to the door, heard someone racing down the stairs and
*assumed* it was the boy. Later we proved the old man was lying about seeing the boy running
out the building, and we also proved the woman was lying about her seeing the boy kill his father
while the train was going by. Most of us strongly believed they were proven wrong, but there was

Japan Yen
The Rise (and Fall) of the Japanese Yen

University of New Haven
Abstract
This Case study provides an insight to the fluctuations experienced in the currency of Japan, Yen
from the late 1990 s to recent years. Japan follows the floating currency monetary policy due to
which there is no measures taken on to control the fluctuations. Japan experienced magnificent
growth through the 60 s, 70 s, and 80 s leading into the 90 s beginning. In the late 1990 s, Japan s
economy marked its growth significantly slower, which had then come to be known as the lost
decade due to Japanese Asset Price bubble that collapsed. Eventually the nation faced major issues

For the following issues the Bank of Japan (BoJ) responded by embarking on Quantitative Easing
(QE) in the early 2000 s which did little to quell the deflation and Yen Strength that had plagued the
nation entirely.
The major problem for the export heavy nation became the strength of the Yen. When the exporters
saw a more expensive Yen, they faced more difficulty to compete with domestic manufacturers in
other nations. Also, due to extremely low rates of interest in Japan, it experienced massive
outflows of capital from retirees and investors looking for yield in other economies such as United
States, Europe and Australia.
Subsequently, the Japanese economy maintained a long lasting recovery beginning in early 2002.
However, the path has not always been smooth, given two soft patches (temporary softening in the
market) and weakness in some parts of the economy.
Japan commenced on a multi pronged approach by June 2012 in an urge to end the multi decade
slide that was seen in growth numbers for its economy. This approach was initiated by Shinzo Abe
during his campaign for Prime Minister, once installed as the political leader of Japan s economy

Deer Population
Deer population is the population of deer in a specific area, it can either be in a state, country, or
just a certain area. It is important to know about the deer population in Iowa, because it helps the
state see how many deer there are and how much have produced in a certain year. It also help the
DNR predict how much deerthere will be in a specific time (citation). Also it helps the DNR see
how many hunters there are in specific place, some hunters are called poachers because they kill
animals without permission or they do it illegally. If you (3rd person) kill more deer then you
should then the deer population will definitely go down because if you kill more than you can
produce it doesn t give the deer a chance to come back up to repopulate.

Examples Of Lead Progression Programs
Lead Progression Programs: The Powerful Payoff
Leave No Money on the Table
In the ongoing pursuit of new qualified leads and sales ready prospects, marketing and sales teams
often push other considerations aside. As a result, many companies pipelines are already full of
leads that warrant attention but that do not get it. Instead, we focus on only the lowest hanging fruit.
This tendency to go for the fast score persists even though businesses know very well that most
leads take time to pay off. So exactly why are so many attention worthy leads not getting any love?
Often, leads are missing a key characteristic that would usually spur us into action. Maybe their

Zero represents the top, where sales accepts a marketing generated lead. Five represents the bottom
of the funnel, or close of that lead. SiriusDecisions also identifies three acceleration zones within
the funnel, where lead progression can have its greatest impact. They are:
Rapid Entry Acceleration (stages 0 to 1):
Creation of high propensity leads that get to Stage One status more quickly.
Intra Pipeline Acceleration (stages 1 through 4):
Programs and enablement developed to move stalled deals between the pipeline s early and middle
stages.
Last Mile Acceleration (stages 4 and 5):
Programs and enablement developed to push late stage deals across the finish line.
The market research firm Aberdeen Group offers another take on acceleration: The PACE model.
This refers to Pressures, Actions, Capabilities, and Enablers and is used to segment companies into
three distinct performance classes based on infrastructures that deliver quantifiable superiority, or
demonstrate its absence. The ability to accelerate leads, and the importance placed on it, is
embedded in the PACE equation.
Maximizing the return on your lead generation investment, therefore, requires accelerating the
progression of the qualified customers already in your pipeline in order to convert them.

Birth of the Republic Essay
In the readings by Edmund S. Morgan the problems of the colonists are summed up and able to
be understood by everyone who picks up the book. It lists in detail what went on to provoke and
then what went on to fix issues in question. Sugar and stamps is about taxing the colonies because
England just finished the Seven Years War and needed to do something to generate some funds.
The thought of doing this was talked about for a few years and a man by the name of Sir Robert
Walpole, who was liked and hated at the same, said he was not near brave enough to try to
accomplish this feat. So a man named George Greenville took the first steps necessary to get this

The Americans have dealt with England for years now and they now know the difference
between legislation and taxation. England was still not happy with the colonists so they sent over
troops. Now the red coats occupied the streets and they were everywhere. The Americans got sick
and tired of the troops always around that they started provoking the soldiers by throwing
snowballs and other such things to make the soldiers mad. Then shots are fired and three people
from Boston are killed and others wounded. No one knows how it started. When a monopoly
started with the East India Tea Company the colonists were angry and they took the tea and threw it
into the harbor. When this happened Parliament passed several laws with the first being the closing
of the port. The colonists did not want to surrender their property so got together and in 1774 the
first Continental Congress met in Philadelphia.
Morgan tells the stories of the past in the book and gets you interested in how things started in the

How To Build Acropolis In Greek Art
All around the world, Greek styles in architecture and art have been imitated; the most influential of
these were Doric, Ionic and Corinthian rhythm. Greek style dates back to the Neolithic Age,
beginning in 10,200 BC. Throughout the thousands of years since then, Greek temples and
structures have been destroyed, repaired, and reconstructed. The Plaka District, the oldest section in
Athens, is home to traditional restaurants, shops, and cafes, and, with mainly pedestrian streets, it
is easy to travel through the whole place. Plaka s main street is known to be the most ancient street

The structure hosted festivals and historically significant events during Athens power. Rising 490
feet in the air, the Acropolis covers approximately 7 acres and has four main buildings: the
Propylaia, the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, and the Temple of AthenaNike.
In 447 BCE, construction began under the guidance of Pericles of Athens. To build the Parthenon,
the best architects and sculptors were hired, among which was Phidias, who created the statue of
Zeus at Olympia. Phidias produced the statue of Athena made out of gold and ivory, which resided
in Acropolis until it was destroyed.
During the Roman Emperor Hadrian s rule, the Acropolis was expanded. Then, after Constantine

Once the Roman empire and the Byzantine Empire fell to the Turks, the Acropolis was turned into

In many cases lawyers have said wrong meaning in the court for something that the client had
not even done, resulting in false accusation which could possibly put an innocent person away
for nothing, this is why it is essential that lawyers prepare the way that they do. As a lawyer it is
your job to prove adequate abilities towards your case and most of all your client. Seeking
justice in the conclusion should be the attorneys goal even if the client presumes to be guilty. As
a student with a passion for the study of law, I have no fear in being the first to say that justice is

The Pros And Cons Of Print Journalism
As previously mentioned, graphic journalism is not the only medium which uses both text and
image in order to communicate and convey information print journalism also incorporates visual
language into the work, because according to the research people are more likely to read a story
accompanied by a photograph (Wolf Grotta 1985, in Nyberg 2006: 100), but actually does it in a
completely different way. While the news photograph is ancillary to the text (Nyberg 2006: 100)
and plays a supportive accompanying role, in comics journalismillustrations and text are integrated
and equivalent, working together to compose a narrative and create a coherent whole, but
remaining distinct from each other. Moreover, a photograph usually stands alone seeming to
capture the whole story in a single moment (Williams 2005: 55), and though has the capacity to

He had no regular work either, simply doing odd jobs for others. The author states that the
wandering peasants degree was humble. Due to peasants were oppressed by bourgeoisie, they
led to a miserable life in that time. However, he was arrogant and conceit. Ah Q had a very high
opinion of himself. He looked down on all the inhabitants of Weichuang, thinking even the two
young scholars not worth a smile, though most young scholars were likely to pass the official
examinations. Furthermore, the book portrayed the personality and behavior of Ah Q. winning
a psychological victory was obvious character for Ah Q. For instance, Ah Q, this is not a son
beating his father, it is a man beating a beast. Let s hear you say it: A man bearing a beast!
Though this method, Ah Q can decrease the external pressure, but the result is that he escapes
from reality. In that era, Ah Q s character and his winner a psychological victory have a broad
representation, not only the behaviors of Ah Q are ridiculers, but also reflect the national character.
In sum, there are lots of people the same as Ah Q, who are ignorant, idle and complaining. These
people are pathetic and sad.
Secondly, after the opium wars, China became semi colony in the world. Internal and external

Anne Freadman s Presentation
Lesson plan (Fifteen Dogs Presentation) My presentation will focus on the uptake of the novel,
via Twitter. I will use Anne Freadman s chapter titled Uptake to specifically looked at how the
novel is being taken up by Twitter, and turned into a promotional device. My line of research
follows the question: How do different twitter users, use the platform to uptake the novel, and turn
it into a form of promotion? I will start my presentation by looking at the scholarship behind my
presentation, focusing on Freadman s example of the Ryan death penalty case. I will look at the
following quote, the function of this formal repetition is two fold: it marks the boundary, and it
carries translates material from one side of it to the other (Freadman 44). I will discuss... Show more

Using hash tags, like #fifteendogs, makes someone visible and/or their products visible, to the
preexisting public of book on twitter. The first example I discuss is concerned with one of the
Wheat Sheaf bar s tweets. The tweet focuses on the idea that the bar s name is mentioned in the
novel, and Apollo and Hermes drink there. The tweet is a clear display of promotion, as it tries
to incite the Fifteen Dogs Twitter public to come to come to the bar. The second example I will
discuss is a little more abstract. It looks at the self promotion of a freelance entertainment writer,
named Renee Gold. Gold also uses the Fifteen Dog hash tag, but she is not part of the Fifteen
Dogs twitter public. I will discuss why Gold s tweet can be considered a form of self promotion.
I will address the idea that, Gold s Twitter feed centres around a different genre, of celebrities and
fashion. I will also explain that, this is the only time she has ever tweeted about the novel, and she
makes this tweet directly after Alexis wins the Giller Prize. It becomes evident that she is trying to
tap this large public, while the book is

Analysis Of Street Light By Giacomo Balla
I chose to travel to the Museum of Modern Art for this assignment. Once I was there, I wasn t
sure which artwork I wanted to focus my analysis on. At first I was overwhelmed by the sheer
enormity of the museum (I have never been), but after a little while I gained my bearings and
began to explore for 20th century art. After viewing many of the paintings that we discussed in
depth in class and many that we did not, I decided to write my analysis on Street Light, by
Giacomo Balla. I chose this paintingbecause the colors and aspects of it intrigue me. I am also
familiar with it, which can help aid me in my analysis. I was extremely interested when we
discussed Futurismin class, and I was happy that I could find something in the Museum of Modern
Artthat had to do with that particular movement, especially a painting that we touched upon. The
painting itself was much larger than I anticipated in person, and stood taller than me the way it
was mounted on the wall. The colors were more vibrant than any picture online could convey, and
I found that I had to restrain myself from physically touching the lines of color that symbolized the
street lamps light. Up close, I was able to notice the finer details of the work. The lines seemed a
little messier and more hastily painted than I had originally thought, however, this added to the
movement of the piece overall. I found myself wishing that the lines of color pushed to the
boundaries of the painting rather than ending before

The market has shown a decline in Starbucks stock. When our company followed your
Stocks trend, we noted a drop about $15 a share. This is a value you have been above
Since 2004. Also, looking at Starbucks SEC filings, we can see that its comparable store
sales have decreased significantly in US markets since 2004. This has prompted WillandSteph
to evaluate Starbucks current strategies in addition to the retail coffee market as a whole. To
evaluate the problem, one of the biggest questions to consider is to what extent is the designer
coffee market just a fad. In other words, will the allure of gourmet Starbucks coffee be
maintained or will more appealing options threaten the success of Starbucks primary product?
If the designer coffee market is indeed a fad industry, we need to evaluate Starbucks possible
options to avoid further decline. The overarching question that we should answer is how
Starbucks can stay profitable in the future. A good place to start involves evaluating the current
market for coffee; from this point, we can gather information about market performance and
determine the extent to which designer coffee appeals to current consumers. Through market
analysis, we can investigate whether or not the demand for gourmet coffee is wavering. We will
evaluate whether coffee companies in general are having trouble maintaining profitability or if it

To his Coy Mistress and To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time
Carpe diem is a Latin term used in literature, the use of this term presses readers to seize the
moment. In the chosen poems, the authors mainly try to pursue women, by letting them know that
they have true physical beauty and should take advantage of their good looks while it lasts. The
word carpe diem impacts both poems, To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time by Robert Herrick,
and To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell. In Herrick s poem, To the Virgins, to Make Much of
Time, he describes carpe diem by citing the shortness of life and by trying to persuade young
women to marry and enjoy their youth at its advantage before death. In the poem To His Coy
Mistress , Marvell explains more traits of carpe diem by persuading a certain woman in being
his wife. To persuade her he used examples of time and age fading her beauty and how it will
leave her with nothing once they re gone. Both poems compare to each other by persuading to
seize moments before old age and beauty disappears.
Herrick s To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time fits the meaning of carpe diem by encouraging the
beauty of youth and life itself. His calm and moralizing approach from the personal environment ...

His summary of the sun describes being a virgin to life and marriage. His words consist of
characteristics that he propose should be treasured, protected, and useful. Herrick s poem
encourages the carpe diem style of other English poets as well and brought it to a better extent.
For instance, Andrew Marvell s English poetry of, To His Coy Mistress , sets aside more of a
moral consideration of carpe diem. He portrays a personal situation addressing to one woman he
desires and tries to persuade her into loving him. His tone suggests her temperament to make love,
despite of her own

Ultrasounds sometimes are used to detect and treat soft tissue injuries
Most ultrasounds are done using a transducer on the surface of the skin. Sometimes, however,
doctors and technicians can get a better diagnostic image by inserting a special transducer into one
of the body s natural openings
An abdominal ultrasound is a useful way of examining internal organs. Because ultrasound images
are captured in real time, they can show movement of internal tissues and organs and enable
physicians to see blood flow. This can help to diagnose a variety of conditions and to assess
damage caused by illness.
If you are having your liver, gallbladder, spleen, and pancreas checked, you may need to eat a fat
free meal on the evening before the test. Then you may need to avoid eating for 8 to 12 hours
before the test.
For a test of the kidneys, you may be asked to drink 4 to 6 glasses of liquid about an hour before
the test. This is to fill your bladder. You may need to avoid eating for 8 to 12 hours before the test

Pros And Cons Of Tariffs
Pros and Cons of Tariffs
Principles of Macroeconomics
Columbia Southern University
BBA 2401
Angelo Jones
Managing the how goods and services enter or leave this country (import/export) is an important
process that allows for us to control the economic status of our nation. Sometimes imposing tariffs
on the goods imported balances our labor cost, resources and government supported industry. A
tariff by definition is a tax or duty to be paid on a particular class of imports or exports.
Economic policy of nations and states, tariffs are tools used to control the flow of goods, services
and resources being brought into the country. The overall purpose is to create security for the
domestic industry from the imported product. These products can sometimes be less expensive to
purchase than the goods being manufactured in the local economy. (McEachern, 2015) The
government does this either stimulate or deflate trade with other countries. (Fontinelle, 2012)
There are quite a few forms of tariffs that the government may apply based on the condition of
the country s economic welfare. The pros and cons of these forms of tariffs will be reviewed.
Discussion on how these tariffs positively or negatively affects the economic stance of the
country will be displayed. Tariffs such as the ad valorem, the taxing a percentage of the value of
an item and the specific tariff or tax which is a set amount based on weight or sum of items.
(McEachern, 2015)

No Tolerance For A Lack Of Maternity Leave
Zero Tolerance For A Lack Of Maternity Leave Whenever we hear a story on the news of a
woman or her family struggling because they re being refused maternity leave it breaks our
hearts. These women, expecting mothers, have to carry or have carried a child for roughly 9
months. Most if not all have done so by being on their feet all day and have only had the required
minimum for breaks. Is it then wrong to ask for maternity leave? Should pregnant women not be
allowed some work accommodations? Well, contrary to popular belief, maternity leave is more
than just a time for a woman s gestation period or relaxation. In a country with a population of
more than 308 million women I think maternity should be a right. So, then who is to blame for
the lack of maternity leave? The answer: male bosses. It s thanks to these bosses that once
women are mothers, they have to go back to work as soon as possible. All these new mothers are
told by their male bosses that they are expected back as soon as they can. These men allow little
to no maternity leave for women in the work force. And I think we can all agree that this is a
serious issue for our nation. There must be a solution to this detrimental illness afflicting our
country. Which is why I have proposed a solution that will benefit not only women but our whole
nation. If male bosses are forced to wear maternity belts they will feel sympathetic to the struggles
of pregnant women. They in turn will be motivated to give paid maternity

T-Shirts In The Global Economy
Every morning, many women begin planning their outfits even before they stroll out of bed. .
Will it be a red or pink top, casual or dressy, jeans or sweatpants? These are just few of the
countless decisions to be made that morning. Do they ever stop for a second to reflect on how
these clothes were even made? Throughout our recorded history, businesses in many production
based industries faced challenges to meet their supply and demand needs. In the book The
Travels of a T shirt in The Global Economy, the author Pietra Rivoli does a great job with
bringing her readers along with her on her little journey that evolved after her single purchase of a
T shirt from a local Walgreens. Upon purchasing the T shirt she wanted to dig deeper and see
where did it all began. Due to her devoted soul she began traveling the world from West Texas to
China and even all the way to Africa. This one product was the motive behind her understanding of
the entire international trading system and globalization debate that now thousands of individuals
are benefiting from. We have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Reinsches owned a 1,000 acre land where every year 500,000 pounds of cotton lint were
successfully planted. This 500,000 pounds of cotton produced roughly 1.3 million T shirts
(Rivoli, 2005). It is of no doubt that the success of their business was due to their passion and
dedication. Nelson said he had only missed four cotton harvests and all of them were during his
service in the World War II (Rivoli, 2005). For them, there was no such thing as the good old
days because they continue to remain positive and agree that every day brings a lesson with it,
and so they learn. After this brief introduction of the couple, Rivoli jumps right into the big
question, how is it for the last 200 years the U.S has been able to stay embedded as the number one
leader in cotton

  • 3. Essay on The Symbolism of the Piano in The Piano The Symbolism of the Piano in The Piano The piano has been inextricably linked with the roles and expectations of women in British society since its advent in the mid 1700s to the late 1800s when rising standards of living made it more accessible to middle class society. Pianos were regarded as secure icons of social distinction 1 and a wife was viewed similarly as a possession of privatization, success and respectability. 2 Pianos were instrumental in both reinforcing gender roles and as delineators of class distinction thus perpetuating the class system. 3 While concentrating primarily on Ada, this essay will discuss the symbolism of the piano in The Piano expressed through the relationship with each of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The piano is in fact an extension of herself and this connection is emphasised by the fact that the longest gaze in the film is given not to a man looking on a woman but to a woman gazing on a supposedly inanimate object. This gaze emphasises the isolation that she herself feels at this moment. Literature is strewn with references to pianos 6 and its feminine characteristics make it an obvious symbol of the vulnerability and treatment of women. It assumes a feminine role in The Piano. Men of both cultures treat it roughly: Maori manhandle it through the bush, and thump unmusically on it when it is moved to Stewart s house; Stewart keeps time coarsely on its frame as Flora plays for him. Baines acquaintances too, clearly regard it as unmanly to learn to play the piano. The physicality of the piano and its connection to Ada s body is emphasised on many occasions by both Ada and Baines: by Baines who bargains parts of Ada s piano in return for parts of her body he is given permission to touch and see and who, in Ada s absence, strips naked to delicately and lovingly dust the piano; by Ada writing on the A key Ada loves George ; and when barricaded into the house by Stewart and cannot see Baines in person, she removes a key (G) from the piano and inscribes on it Dear George, you have my heart. The underlying basis for the inclusion of foundation subjects within early years and primary education might not be immediately apparent, particularly for first year students studying towards qualified teacher status. This essay will, therefore, unfold the reasons for this inclusion whilst including specific reference to the enclosure of history teaching. The National Curriculum (NC), introduced in 1988 and currently undergoing revision, consists of the core subjects: English, mathematics and science; compulsory at all key stages, and the foundation subjects: art, design technology (DT), geography, history, information and communication technology (ICT), modern foreign languages (MFL), music, personal, social and health education(PSHE)... Stories such as When Grandma Was Young (Humphrey, 2000), Elmer and Grandpa Eldo (Mckee, 2001) and My Granny is a Pirate (Mcdermid and Robins, 2012) can invoke interest with early years children and inspire them to become inquisitive about the past. It has been suggested that time means nothing to young children. However learning to ask and answer questions through story reading will enhance their concept history. Therefore continuing to do so through the Early Learning Goals will prepare children, entering at primary level, to appreciate the importance of history (Lunn and Bishop, 2004). It is important to remember to children do not stop learning history when they finish their time at primary school. Maintained secondary schools follow the NC which maintains that all children will continue to learn history by means of the KS3 History Programmes of Study (2013). Therefore it is important to prepare children for more challenging and precise history learning. New topics shall be introduced so it is important children have the skills to identify significant events, make connections, draw contrasts, and analyse trends (p.72). It is, furthermore, defined that pupils will pursue historically valid enquiries including some they have framed themselves (p.72). Essay on The Struggle Towards a Democratic Nation The Struggle Towards a Democratic Nation Education Position Paper The Struggle Towards a Democratic Nation Imperialism of one sort or another has been occurring for centuries around the world. In the U.S. a specific form of imperialism is in full effect but is less noticeable than the normative physical imperialism. Linguistic imperialism occurs when a dominant group imposes their language on another, and within the United States this imperialism has been occurring through English. Early writers like William Bradford used words like savage and brutish to describe the Native Americans (Babb 61). In calling them savage and brutish he exudes the sentiment that the people he is writing this for (white colonials) are non savage and non brutish. Another example is Cotton Mather s The Negro Christianized. In this book he argues that while it is very important for slaves to be baptized it is equally important to maintain social order by baptizing them into subservience (Babb 65). The Life and Captivity of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson is an example of the captivity narrative, which was also a very influential genre. In telling how she was captured by Native Americans she never recognizes them as human beings only describes them as savages, heathen and hell hounds . These literary examples are among many that create a hierarchy privileging the white English speaking people, and they set the stage for linguistic imperialism in the United States. Companies in all industries and of all sizes understand that customers are perhaps their most valuable assets. In order to have a successful long term relationship the most important thing is to have mutual trust. Because without trust ( partners can trust and depend on each other, resolve problems as they arise and settle differences between them when it necessary) unhappy customers will not stay loyal to the company and will go out to our competitors. According to J. Tanner trust is a belief by one party that the other party will fulfill its obligations in a relationship (p.362). When we earned the trust of the other party, our relationship is strong and we do not need to constantly monitor each other s actions because both believe that other parties will act in a way that is best for both parties. But trust only is not enough, which is why it is a combination of five factors: dependability, competence, customer orientation, honesty and likability. As we can see, Tony did not possess the honesty factor. It is the little details that culminate a theme or feel that makes customers want to shop at a particular store and have a certain type of experience depending on who they are. It is all about making an environment whether a store, a party, a home, etc. as inviting and welcoming as possible. I strongly believe that there is so much inspiration out there that can be used to create compelling store displays that provoke consumers to shop and help maximize a store s profits. This is an interesting field where not only are artistic skills necessary, but also the ability to merchandise the sales floor and make every visual aspect of a store experience enjoyable. My art is inspired by popular culture, the work of other artists in similar fields, and the work of surrealist artists. The prospect of being able to have a job that comprises of creativity and a unique perspective motivates me to pursue a career in art and design. • 15. Analysis Of The Poem The Fountain Tommy in the Fountain is a character faced with the dilemma of mortality in the physical realm and can not accept the grim, inevitable death that faces all of humankind. In the world of The fountain, there are three planes of existence which correlate to the past, present, and future/consciousness. Darren Aronofsky intertwines these three times periods creating a nonlinear perspective of time, but it is in line with the general plot of the movie. Aronofsky wants the viewer to link the time periods together where the past is the story depicted in the book, and the futurecan be seen as his consciousness. A character that stays apparent in these settings is Izzi. Izzi guides the main character to accept the grim fate of death and to reach a state of knowledge which will potentially enlighten him. She helps Tommy understand the meaning of death by bringing the immediacy and expectancy, and forcing Tommy to finish it, referring to the book and his understanding of death. Completing the book results in the journey that Tommy takes to enlightenment, the acceptance. The relationship between these characters really create the whole importance of realizing death is ultimately an act of creation. Present day Tommy is faced with a cancer stricken Izzi where she is enlightened during her death and immortalized . Izzi is also depicted as the tree of life in Tommy s consciousness and Queen Elizabeth of Spain. The Tree of Life is a symbol of immortality, with Izzi dying in the ... Particles seem not to take one path, not the other, not both, and not neither, and even act as if they know when we re observing them.) In this final installment of a three article series, we ll look in very broad strokes at some of the philosophical implications of these views of quantum mechanics. I. Logic Standard logic is two valued. That just means that each sentence in the logic is true or false, not both, and not neither. My cat s breath smells like cat food is either true or false; it can t both smell that way and not smell that way at the same time to the same person, and surely it either does or it doesn t. But as we ve seen, some interpretations of quantum mechanics might suggest adding in a new value.1 Perhaps Copenhagen style interpretations indicate that we should have a value of neither a truth value gap and Copenhagen and many worlds interpretations indicate that we should have a value of both: a truth value glut. 2 As it happens, there are independent philosophical reasons to explore three or four valued logics (and ... • 19. The Shawshank Redemption And American Psycho Psychology by definition is the scientific study of the human mind and its functions, especially those affecting behavior in a given context. Every brain is biologically and chemically different, and how these chemicals react in your brain and body can have an effect on the person s characteristics. The two movies that I chose to watch were The Shawshank Redemptionand American Psycho. In The Shawshank Redemption there is a clear case of a mentally healthy character and in American Psycho there is a very definitive sign of a character with a mental disorder. In The Shawshank Redemption, Andy Dufresne is portrayed by Tim Robbinsand in American Psycho, Patrick Bateman is played by Christian Bale. The Shawshank Redemption came out in 1994 and has been named one of the best movies to be produced. Shawshank provides a display of a mentally healthy character, Andy Dufresne, who was convicted for murdercharges on his wife and her lover. Andy is sentenced to two consecutive life sentences, so needless to say he will be spending a long time in prison. Before Andy was convicted, he was a hot shot banker who made a surplus of money but people also claim he fell out of love with his wife. Not showing his wife enough attention led her to have an affair and then allegedly Andy found out and murdered the both of them. The only problem with Andy being sentenced to prison for the murder is the fact that he did not actually do it and he was falsely convicted for a crime he did ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I never heard of the term pederasty, so I was unaware of the difference. Ancient Greek pederasts were adult males, usually socially prominent, who have an erotic attraction to adolescent boys. These men would take on an adolescent male pupil as a lover. Many pederasts were bisexual because many were married while in homosexual relationships with adolescent boys. These sexual relationships with adolescent boys would not interfere with the boy s future heterosexual social role. What was really interesting to learn was pedophilia in Ancient Greece was illegal. It helps to overcome the update problems. There are various forms of normalization namely 1NF, 2NF, 3NF, 4NF and 5NF. Another type of normalization is BCNF. 1NF ensures that there are no multi valued attributes in any table. 2NF is used to eliminate any partial dependencies and ensure that all non key columns depend on the entire primary key. I have used an auto incremental system assigned key to serve as a primary key for all the tables. Hence the primary key can be modified if it is entered incorrectly or needs to be changed. In the department table, department id being the primary key needs to be unique, but a department could have more than one product. Hence I gave a system assigned primary key to the department table. Now, it leads to transitive dependencies as department name was determined by department id and did not depend on the primary key. Hence to bring the table to 3NF I made a separate department table and added a junction table to link product and department. (3) The employee table had a start and end date. This did not cater to the face that multiple employs could have the same start and end date and also an employee could resign and join again. Also, the salary could change depending on his tenure. To address this and get the table to 1NF, I made a separate entity for employee tenure making employee id as the foreign key linking the employee table. (4) The order table had a primary key order id and columns for state and tax. The tax was dependent on non key column state and hence the table violated 3NF. Hence I separated the state and tax columns in a separate column and linked it to the orders table. (5) The order table initially was designed to include billing. With the provision of a bill to be cleared in multiple transactions the billing could have multiple values and hence was made a separate entity to bring it to 1NF. It was a complicated case, everyone voted for guilty at the beginning, but in the end not guilty was the final verdict. I will show evidence to support the not guilty verdict. Everyone made the right decision by setting the boy free. A big point we discussed was we couldn t just say the boy was guilty right after court was over; we had to discuss and analyze the evidence. But a big factor was the background story of the boy. I said, Look, this kid s been kicked around all of his life. You know, born in a slum. Mother dead since he was nine. He lived for a year and a half in an orphanage when his father was serving a jail term for forgery. That s not a very happy beginning. He s a wild, angry kid, and that s all he s ever been. • 39. The Pros And Cons Of Print Journalism As previously mentioned, graphic journalism is not the only medium which uses both text and image in order to communicate and convey information print journalism also incorporates visual language into the work, because according to the research people are more likely to read a story accompanied by a photograph (Wolf Grotta 1985, in Nyberg 2006: 100), but actually does it in a completely different way. While the news photograph is ancillary to the text (Nyberg 2006: 100) and plays a supportive accompanying role, in comics journalismillustrations and text are integrated and equivalent, working together to compose a narrative and create a coherent whole, but remaining distinct from each other. Moreover, a photograph usually stands alone seeming to capture the whole story in a single moment (Williams 2005: 55), and though has the capacity to draw attention and cause a viewer s reaction, it cannot by itself provide an interpretation or create a narrative coherence, requiring captions and descriptions to be... The tweet is a clear display of promotion, as it tries to incite the Fifteen Dogs Twitter public to come to come to the bar. The second example I will discuss is a little more abstract. It looks at the self promotion of a freelance entertainment writer, named Renee Gold. Gold also uses the Fifteen Dog hash tag, but she is not part of the Fifteen Dogs twitter public. • 42. Analysis Of Street Light By Giacomo Balla I chose to travel to the Museum of Modern Art for this assignment. Once I was there, I wasn t sure which artwork I wanted to focus my analysis on. At first I was overwhelmed by the sheer enormity of the museum (I have never been), but after a little while I gained my bearings and began to explore for 20th century art. After viewing many of the paintings that we discussed in depth in class and many that we did not, I decided to write my analysis on Street Light, by Giacomo Balla. I chose this paintingbecause the colors and aspects of it intrigue me. I am also familiar with it, which can help aid me in my analysis. I was extremely interested when we discussed Futurismin class, and I was happy that I could find something in the Museum of Modern Artthat had to do with that particular movement, especially a painting that we touched upon. The painting itself was much larger than I anticipated in person, and stood taller than me the way it was mounted on the wall. The colors were more vibrant than any picture online could convey, and I found that I had to restrain myself from physically touching the lines of color that symbolized the street lamps light. Up close, I was able to notice the finer details of the work. The lines seemed a little messier and more hastily painted than I had originally thought, however, this added to the movement of the piece overall. I found myself wishing that the lines of color pushed to the boundaries of the painting rather than ending before ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To his Coy Mistress and To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time Carpe diem is a Latin term used in literature, the use of this term presses readers to seize the moment. In the chosen poems, the authors mainly try to pursue women, by letting them know that they have true physical beauty and should take advantage of their good looks while it lasts. The word carpe diem impacts both poems, To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time by Robert Herrick, and To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell. In Herrick s poem, To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time, he describes carpe diem by citing the shortness of life and by trying to persuade young women to marry and enjoy their youth at its advantage before death. In the poem To His Coy Mistress , Marvell explains more traits of carpe diem by persuading a certain woman in being his wife. To persuade her he used examples of time and age fading her beauty and how it will leave her with nothing once they re gone. Both poems compare to each other by persuading to seize moments before old age and beauty disappears. Pros And Cons Of Tariffs Pros and Cons of Tariffs Principles of Macroeconomics Columbia Southern University BBA 2401 Angelo Jones Managing the how goods and services enter or leave this country (import/export) is an important process that allows for us to control the economic status of our nation. Sometimes imposing tariffs on the goods imported balances our labor cost, resources and government supported industry. A tariff by definition is a tax or duty to be paid on a particular class of imports or exports. Economic policy of nations and states, tariffs are tools used to control the flow of goods, services and resources being brought into the country. The overall purpose is to create security for the domestic industry from the imported product. These products can sometimes be less expensive to purchase than the goods being manufactured in the local economy. • 48. No Tolerance For A Lack Of Maternity Leave Zero Tolerance For A Lack Of Maternity Leave Whenever we hear a story on the news of a woman or her family struggling because they re being refused maternity leave it breaks our hearts. These women, expecting mothers, have to carry or have carried a child for roughly 9 months. Most if not all have done so by being on their feet all day and have only had the required minimum for breaks. Is it then wrong to ask for maternity leave? Should pregnant women not be allowed some work accommodations? Well, contrary to popular belief, maternity leave is more than just a time for a woman s gestation period or relaxation. In a country with a population of more than 308 million women I think maternity should be a right. So, then who is to blame for the lack of maternity leave? The answer: male bosses. It s thanks to these bosses that once women are mothers, they have to go back to work as soon as possible. All these new mothers are told by their male bosses that they are expected back as soon as they can. These men allow little to no maternity leave for women in the work force. And I think we can all agree that this is a serious issue for our nation. There must be a solution to this detrimental illness afflicting our country. Which is why I have proposed a solution that will benefit not only women but our whole nation. If male bosses are forced to wear maternity belts they will feel sympathetic to the struggles of pregnant women. They in turn will be motivated to give paid maternity ...
