Informative Essay About Swimming
Stop, right now, think of the last time you went swimming, think of how many
times you ve gone swimming, how high is that number? It s engraved into our
lives, not only is it a fun way to relax, but swimming is a survival skill needed for
many species to use in their lives. Swimming is part of nature, almost every living
species has a natural instinct of how to swim right from birth, but humans don t, why
do you think that is? Over the years, swimmingfrom a competition stand point has
advanced and changed along with technology. My goal is to learn about: the
regulations of competition swimming (rules and strokes), the technological advances
that are pushing athletes to go beyond old records, and what is happening with
swimming in your neighborhood.
Now, have you ever noticed that countless records are being broken and broken
again? Some have called into question the technological advances and if they are
helping or hurting our sports. A few years ago FINA noticed records being broken in

In The Time Of Butterflies Summary
Edwidge Danticat s The Farming of Bones and Julia Alvarez s In the Time of
Butterflies We have all heard the saying, it s a man s world . It appears that our
world is governed according to a man s perspective and thoughts as to how the
world should be run, and women gracefully bow down to this perspective and
internalize those male supremacist notions of patriarchal dominance. Even with this
seemingly innate belief that men have, it is still apparent at times that there is
another view that is often glossed over and ignored in the pursuit of extreme power
and superiority. In Edwidge Danticat s The Farming of Bones and Julia Alvarez s In
the Time of Butterflies, we are able to dissect society through the eyes of women
who have had... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even in The Farming of Bones, we see that Amabelle s being seems to depend on
the opinions and actions of Sebastien. She shows this devotion to a man when she
says Yesterday Juana called me a nonbeliever because I don t normally pray to the
saints, I said. She asked me if I believed in anything, and all I could think to say
was Sebastien (Danticat 65). In other words, the way that her life is going is the
result of her belief in Sebastien and how he sees and treats her. While both texts give
the view of women within each of these societies, the two texts are still infused with
patriarchal thoughts and emotions. For instance, Amabelle s story does give an
accurate account of the destruction in the sense that she gives us an actual account of
the tragedies even in the story of one of the companions on her trip to Haiti being shot
down right behind her (Danticat 201). Her account though focuses so much on
Sebastien and his decisions that the text can almost be seen as an extension of
Sebastien s thoughts only the thoughts are coming through the body of a woman. In
the same token, the Mirabell sisters are consequentially important parts of the fight
against injustice, but their fights become more focused on themselves than on their
societies as a whole. Also, their rebellion decreases when their husbands are
imprisoned and they are left alone. At
Recovery From A Mental Health
The term Recovery carries many differing definitions both in the Medical and Mental
Health domains. In medical terms, recovery is the act of regaining or returning to a
normal or health state, being cured or experiencing no current symptoms (Mental
Health Foundation UK, 2015).
Recovery from a mental health problem can be understood either as an outcome or
as a process. Also known as clinical recovery an outcome is present depends on
whether the symptoms/problems are present or absent (SerafГn Lemos GirГЎldez
2015). Usually involving a reduction or absence of symptoms and a significant
improvement in occupational and social functioning, an outcome does not change
from person to person. On the other hand, individuals who go through a process in
order to live a joyful and fulfilling life, experience personal recovery. (SerafГn Lemos
GirГЎldez 2015). This form of recovery involves learning to become self managing
of one s illness, whether recurring symptoms are at that point in time present and
working towards a self caring, independent and fulfilling life. The definition of a
satisfying like varies from one individual to the next. This is why each consumer s
recovery journey is personal and tailored to fit their goals and beliefs (SerafГn Lemos
GirГЎldez 2015).
According to the United Kingdom s Mental Health foundation (2015) the concept of
recovery is about the individual staying in control of their life despite experiencing a
mental health problem. The aim of the
Modern Culture And Culture Of The Ancient Greek Theater
Ancient Greek Theater Greece is the protГ©gГ© of theatre and in turn stands as the
basis of Western theatrical tradition; as a large part of the broader culture of
theatricality and performance. In classical Greece included festivals, religious rituals,
politics, law, athletics and gymnastics, music, poetry, weddings, funerals, and
symposiums. In the original culture of the Greek theatre they stressed the
importance of the twelve Olympian gods, advanced technology, theatrical stage,
first actor, and rise of different genres. Due to these ideals and stresses, Greek style
theatre is still prevalent today; we are very privileged to see the growth theater had
since it first started out and to see that the old ways still persist today. Back in the
Classical period, 500 to 200 B.C., theatre served solely and mostly dealt with honoring
their Dodekatheon (twelve gods) rather than entertaining the crowd and provoking
thought for future analysis. Arguably the theatre was the most important part of the
Athenian religious and social culture where everyone who worked extremely hard
throughout the year would look forward to the month that was dedicated to one of
their most venerated gods, Dionysus. Imagine living in 400 B.C. or around there, and
celebrating life for an entire month during the summer without having any obligations
towards yourself, or anyone around you. Literally this is the pursuit of happiness in
people my age, working extremely hard, during the cold and tough

Jean-Baptiste Oudry
The artist that I will be focusing on is Jean Baptiste Oudry, a French artist who
focused mainly on painting animals. He was born in Paris, France on March 17,
1686 and died on April 30, 1755 in Beauvais, France. He was a French Rococo
painter and specialized in painting animals. Oudry first studied portrait paintingwith
Nicolas de LargilliГЁre. And later met Jean Baptiste MassГ©. Through MassГ©, he
made many connections and one that made his reputation, Louis XV. Oudry created
Louis XV hunting a deer in the Forest of Saint Germain for the king and was later
asked to produce more paintings for the king. Oudry started out painting only
portraits but later moved to paintings of fruits, animals, as well as religious subjects.
Oudry mainly painted but he also engraved. He was a Rococo painter which was a

In this painting, there are two dogs Misse, the white dog and Luttine, the black

outside environment and their names are under each dog. Oudry uses elements of
art such as texture and shape. The dog s fur are depicted by soft lines used by
Oudry. He also uses shape to show objects and represent what they are. For
example, in this painting, we can see that the pillar behind these two dogs are
made up of a cube and a cylinder on top to show that it is a pillar. Oudry also uses
principles of art such as proportion and emphasis. Here, we can see that both dogs
are about the same size to show than either of them are the weak or stronger one. He
also uses emphasis on the dogs to show that this painting only focuses on the dogs
and the background objects are not as emphasized because of their size or positioning

A Brief Study of How Rastafarianism and Puritanism Compares to Christianity

This essay is a brief compare and contrast of three types of religions: Christianity,
Rastafarianism or Rastas , and the Puritanism. If you study the meaning of the word
religion in Latin it is translated as religion which means to be bound to, or to be
tied to. In the Concise Oxford Dictionary religion means the belief in a superhuman
controlling power especially in a personal God or gods entitled to obedience and
worship . In 2 Timothy 2:15 it states that we are to study to show ourselves approved.

Essay On Prions
Deactivation of Prions in the Healthcare Setting Prions are infectious agents
composed entirely of a protein material which is transmissible to other prion
proteins leading to disease in a manner that is epidemiologically comparable to the
spread of viral infection. Prions composed of the prion protein are believed to be the
cause of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies among other diseases. All known
priondiseases are untreatable and fatal.
. Prions, however, are infectious by their effect on normal versions of the protein.
Sterilizing prions, therefore, requires the denaturation of the protein to a state in
which the molecule is no longer able to induce the abnormal folding of normal
proteins. In general, prions are quite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The three most stringent sterilization methods for heat resistant instruments described

instruments, such as gold plated instruments. Before instruments are immersed in
sodium hypochlorite, the instrument manufacturer should be consulted about the
instrument s tolerance of exposure to sodium hypochlorite. Instruments should be
decontaminated by a combination of the chemical and recommended autoclaving
methods before subjecting them to cleaning in a washer cycle and routine sterilization.

The Role Of Death In Erich Maria Remarque s All Quiet
On...
In All Quiet On The Western Front, Erich Maria Remarque expresses how the human
nature of the Iron Youth alters because of WW1 after witnessing horrendous acts
during the struggle between life and death. The human nature of Paul Baumer
changes dramatically as he must conform his life to that of a cold, harsh, unforgiving
German soldier. Every event that occurs when the novel begins to unravel as each
man has a mess tin full for the evening, to the moment where Remarque shifts to
show fighting the oversized, disgusting rats in order to get a crust off an old
sandwich exemplifies the war. As human natureprogresses from joy to compassion to
guilt, the soldiers learn a new definition of surviving as they experience deathafter

Once Paul has made his way back to the western front, havoc begins to unleash like
never before, because his human nature is a murderer picking GГ©rard Duval as
the victim as fear takes over Paul s life. Duval is a vulnerable enemy that
blindlessly jumps towards his death as if he were a lamb up for slaughter. The idea
that Duval blindly jumps to his death as if he were up for slaughter like a lamb that
represents all young soldiers where their human nature, fear, controls life as they
know it. Paul s human nature has lead him to the killing of printer, GГ©rard Duval
because the time on leave changes him between the unnecessary praising and the
deterioration of his beloved potato maker s illness. Instantly Paul is flooded with
regret because he has killed the printer, GГ©rard Duval [and] must be a printer, I
think confusedly, be a printer, printer (107) in order to correct the death of him in
a moral sense. The war has made Paul lifeless and just another soldier that belongs
to the Iron Youth. The war has affected human nature as Remarque varies it from
guilt, sorrow, joy and to go as far as no feelings as he becomes desensitized before
seeing his mom that makes him realize the guilt that lives with him that leads to the
act he committed against Duval as if it has no effect. The idea of the Iron Youth is
coined to show that soldier are unstoppable but emotional the most affected because
the death of friends, Kemmerich does not emotionally bother him with the exception
of sorrow. Fear runs through the veins of soldiers that fiercely fight for their country
because everything and everyone is unpredictable especially when one is across
enemy lines. After bullet and bullet are fired , Burning I wait for our attack. My

Lincoln-Douglas Debate Essay examples
Every single moment that takes place in history arguably leaves an effect that lasts
much longer than just the initial outcome. The Lincoln Douglas Debates are by far
one of the truest examples of this happening. The seven debates between Abraham
Lincoln and Stephen Douglas that took place in 1858 had extreme importance in
Illinois that created effects that decided the presidential election of 1860.
The Lincoln Douglas debates were a series of several debates that took place all
over the state of Illinois. In these debates, two men argued in order to express their
beliefs and standpoints on certain issues, primarily slavery, in an attempt to be elected
into a seat in the U.S. Senate. The two men that participated in these debates were ...

Abraham Lincoln began as a lawyer born in Kentucky who gained attention to himself
through having contrasting beliefs to Douglas over the topic of slavery. Through the
Lincoln Douglas debates, Lincoln morphed into a candidate prepared to become an
unforgettable president (History).
On June 16, 1858 made the statement a house divided against itself cannot stand, in
a speech about slavery, deeply contrasting with Douglas s views and speaking about
the conspiracy of the democratic plot to get slavery legalized in every state. This
conspiracy, of course, was being partly conspired by Stephen Douglas. Three weeks
later, Stephen Douglas refuted these claims while also calling Abraham Lincoln a
dangerous abolitionist (Looking for Lincoln). Being an abolitionist at the time held a
very negative connotation because abolitionists were often irrational extremists
(Morel 4). The following evening, in the exact same place as Douglas had spoken,
Lincoln spoke once more.
The Lincoln Douglas debates all began due to the fact that Douglas had been
travelling all over the state of Illinois making speeches in order to increase the
likelihood of his chance to be reelected into the U.S. Senate. More often than not, less
than a week later, sometimes the very same night, the annoying Republican
candidate, Lincoln would follow suit and speak to the same group of
Advantages Of Maglev Train
Maglev train denotes the train is lifted above its tracts by electromagnetic force.
With the maglev technology developing rapidly, maglev train has been widely
applied nowadays like Japan HTTS series and German TR series. This essay will
examine the key technologies of maglev train from both the dominated systems and
the main characteristics of high and low speed maglev trains perspectives. There are
three main systems: suspension system, guidance and brake system and traction
system. As the most crucial yet challenging one, suspension system is established to
achieve train s levitation. According to Long, He and Xue(2011), there are two
types of suspension system: EMS system and EDS system. The former one appears
to be more widely used recently. As for EMS system, as an abbreviation standing for
electromagnetic suspension, it achieves train s levitation by using the force of
attraction between the permanent magnet mounted on board and the railway track(
Long, He and Xue, 2011). In addition, feedback control loops are necessary and
crucial in this system. According to Earnshaw s law, which states that a permanent
magnet can never stay static in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be explained by the magnetic principle that the same poles repel, different
poles attract. As with the process, based on the force decomposition principle, the
inverted U shaped magnetically rail and magnet produce the repulsive
electromagnetic force with an inclined angle, which can be decomposed into the
guiding force along the lateral component and the suspension force along the vertical
component. In addition, Liu, Long and Li(2015) illustrated that current adjustment in
suspension magnet is adopted to keep suspension in a certain

Feminist Criticism In Aunt Jennifer s Tigers By Adrienne
Rich
For the poem Aunt Jennifer s Tigers by Adrienne Rich, I choose the feminist
approach for several reasons. The first reason is that the poem shows how many
women were prevented of achieving more than just a good wife (which is not bad
if the woman wants so). For example, the speaker says, The massive weight of
Uncle s wedding band/ Sits heavily upon Aunt Jennifer s hand (7 8). This show how
she is restrained in this marriagewhich is a load in her life. The next reason is the
marriage is not how it appears to be on many circumstance. For instance, the speaker
notes, When Aunt is dead, her terrified hands will lie (9). The idea of beautiful hands
is a sign that a man or womandoes need to work under extreme conditions, and thus,
that person has a good life; however, the lie is that that person does not have that
good life that others might perceive. The last reason is that the tigers in the poem
play an important role because they are a symbolism of how women should be. In
the line 3 and 12, the raconteur states They do not fear the men beneath the tree
and Will go on prancing, proud and unafraid . It shows the idea that women should
not be fear of men and they are also as capable as men to do whatever they propose
to do. The question I hope to answer is why the author wrote the poem, and what was
her purpose in doing so (what she wanted to change).
The first reason is that Adrienne Rich not only knew and realized the predicament
of many others woman but she suffered herself. For example, the speaker notes,
When Aunt is dead, her terrified hands will lie (9). The hands are given human
attributes which is known as personification, but hand cannot be terrified or lie;
nevertheless, this line implies that something was not good in Jennifer s life, and
she had to support all the pain by herself. In addition, the narrator states, The
massive weight of Uncle s wedding band/ Sits heavily upon Aunt Jennifer s hand (7
8). A wedding band is not heavy per se, but this line implies that she felt trapped on
a promise that she could not escape from and a very destructive environment.
Moreover, Cassandra Langer in her article says, Her 1951 poem Aunt Jennifer s
Tigers traces the beginning of her feelings

Natural Wonderss On Natural Wonders In The Medieval
Century
Wonders during the medieval era played a vast or minuscule role in engineering.
Although people during this time sought to learn and implemented the wonders
found by travel writers others were not so open to this new idea. Which also means
that the definition of wonder differed for the courts and the monasteries. Travel
writers such as Marco Polo who reported Kublai Khan s famous levitating cups
helped raise the discipline of engineeringby helping others built artificial wonders
with this information (93). But also during this time with this new information a new
distinction between artisanship and engineering was brought up.Overall medieval
topographical and travel literature on natural wonders shaped and raised the
discipline of engineering by giving definition and growth to many European courts.
During the medieval era, courts were influenced by romance literature to further
improve their military. The romances of Eneas and the Roman of de Troie
described the wonders of art and ancient courtly engineering. For example in
Eneas, Carthage was depicted with walls made of marble and adamant painted a
hundred colors and topped with three rows of magnets to incapacitate armed
attackers (89). The three rows of magnets, one of the many wonders described by
travel writer during this time, was used as a military tactic to disable armed
attackers from proceeding with their attack. In the tombs of Camilia, a similar tactic
was used with magnets moreover a magic mirror was
Class World Religion
Taking the class world religions has benefited my understanding of many different
religions. Not only did it enhance my knowledge on all religions, but gave me a
deeper understanding on my own beliefs. My ideas on the different religions have
expanded and given me a new perspective. World religions have opened my view
up to different ideas and have shown me the similarities and differences between the
difference religions. I found that I actually believe in different aspects of all the
religions and not just one solid idea. When I was younger, I grew up in a christian
household. I went to a private christian school and learned about Jesusand the beliefs
involved in christianity. I thought I was always a strong christian. Now, after taking
world religions I believe in different aspects of all the religions. I still believe in
most christianity aspects, but I also believe in some ideas from Buddhism,
Hinduism, and Islam. I believe in one Godand one God only. I believe in Jesus and
that he was the son of God. I believe that Jesus came to this Earth to take away our
sins and save us from eternity in hell. Most of Jesus teachings in the bible I also
believe in. I believe and hope that when I die I will go to heaven for eternity.

Humanism In The Renaissance Art
Final Exam
1.In general, humanism is considered as a focus on the actions of human beings.
(Sayre 66). This focus came to light after the Middle Ages, where art only centered
around God and religion. The Renaissance period marked a shift from a Christian
centered view to a humanistic emphasis that was expressed in the paintings, music,
and sculptures. Renaissance artists were also able to redefine humanism through the
recovery, study, and spread of the art and literature of Greece and Rome, and the
application of their principles to education, politics, social life, and the arts in general.
(Sayre 205). A paintingthat really exemplifies the significance of humanism to the
Renaissance period is the School of Athens by Raphael. Raphael created this piece as
way of demonstrating the worth of human beings in the midst of their scholarly
pursuits. He highlights the recovery of Greek and Roman art and literature through
the numerous references and symbols relating to past scholars and gods. Through the
use of one point perspective, the art piece immediately points the attention of the
audience to the two figures of Aristotle and Socrates. By putting Aristotle and
Socrates in the center, Raphael emphasizes the central theme of humanism through
putting humans themselves in the middle. These philosophers also demonstrate how
education and pursuit of knowledge became a beacon of the human worth. Another
recognizable illustration of humanism is the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da

Abstract perceivers, however, take in information through analysis, observation, and

2.Active and reflective processors Active processors make sense of an experience by
immediately using the new information. Reflective processors make sense of an
experience by reflecting on and thinking about it.
Schooling generally focuses on active and reflective processors however concrete
and abstract perceivers are becoming more and more catered for.
Learning styles theories impact education through the curriculum, instruction and
assessment. The curriculum must place emphasis on intuition, feeling, sensing, and
imagination, in addition to the traditional skills of analysis, reason, and sequential
problem solving. In the instruction, teachers should design their instruction methods
to connect with all four learning styles, using various combinations of experience,
reflection, conceptualization, and experimentation. Finally, in assessment teachers
should employ a variety of assessment techniques, focusing on the development of
whole brain capacity and each of the different learning styles

Swine Pathogens
North Carolina is the country s second largest hog producer housing over 10
million swine (Edwards and Ladd, 2000). Due to the density of swine in such a
small region, 15.5 million tons of manure is produced on a yearly basis. This manure
is stored in lagoon pits that are man made for this purpose. 1 Once stored in these
lagoons, the manure is then sprayed onto fields for disposal; these fields contain
agricultural crops or turf (USGAO, 2008). Since the ground is permeable, runoff and
percolation occur in these fields and in the lagoons, as they are only lined with clay.
The waste in these lagoon pits contain insecticides, antimicrobial agents, pathogens,

The odor invades homes and some days mist will hit cars and homes (Wing S,
2002). As previously noted, the waste contains pathogens and antibiotic resistant
bacteria. As this spray is impacting residents homes it is reaching public water
sources. The mist contains hydrogen sulfide and ammonia which cause irritation of
the eyes and respiratory system (Wilson SM, Serre ML, 2007). Research indicates
these spray fields cause mental stress, decreased quality of life, and raised blood
pressure on nearby residents. NC s swine CAFOs are densely bunched in low income
communities with predominantly black residents. This region experiences poor
quality of life, high unemployment rates, subpar healthcare, and a minimal level of
education (Calhoun SD, et al, 2000). The residents in this region do not obtain the
political power to oppose the impact of swine CAFOs. Therefore, employment and
schools or any educational institution thereof are not present within vicinity.
Regardless of any reason, this is environmental injustice impacting minority
populations. This population lacks the political power to push back, therefore; they
have to bear the health, socio economic, and environmental impacts of the CAFOs
without any allocation of the economic benefits from the industry (Edwards B, Ladd
AE, 2001). It seems that this industry chooses to build CAFOs in areas with minimal

The Evolution Of Political Philosophy And Political Science
As centuries have passed, political thought has undergone constant development and
together with its development are changes. These changes had a tremendous effect in
the discipline. Political philosophy continued to progress which affected both
political theory and political science. It seems that with the progression of political
philosophy, there was a growing need for the the discipline to become more
scientific. They wanted it to be based on facts, to become value free and to be
precise. Political philosophystarted veering away from the classics. Despite the
continuous need to be scientific, there were still groups which remained inclined to
the classics and believed that the traditions and values are essential in studying the
discipline. These conflicting views concerning the traditionalists and the
behavioralists caused the gap between political philosophy and political scienceand
eventually the two separated. So it seems that as political philosophy progress,
political science branched outside the academe and political theory, as it grew larger
became more and more alienated. In order to explain why political science drifted
apart from political philosophy, one must go back to the history of political
philosophy. It is important to understand what was the state of political philosophy

Death Valley National Park was Very Different in the Past...
When one thinks of Death Valley National Park in California, the first image that
comes to mind is usually an endless desert of dry, cracked terrain or rippling sand
with little wildlife or vegetation. While that is what you ll find in most of Death
Valley today, it wasn t always so. During the Holocene Eon and the Pleistocene ice
ages, Death Valleyhad its fair share of streams and rivers, many of which originated
from the nearby mountains. In fact, the driest area of Death Valley today was once
an island! During that time, glaciers had formed in the Sierra Nevada Mountains
and water from the rivers cascaded into the area now known as Shoreline Butte,
forming Lake Manly; a lake that was estimate to be almost 600 feet deep! The

The ripples on the sand dunes form when the sand starts to pile up high enough to
cause a slope on the wind blowing side of the dune. Once the sand piles up past the
angle of repose, approximately 30 degrees, the extra weight causes it to become
unstable. The sand particles making up this extra weight then slips down the other
side of the slope.
At the center of Death Valley National Parkis Furnace Creek. Unlike much of Death
Valley, a wide variety of desert plants and animals call this oasis home and visitors
can enjoy all the amenities at the Furnace Creek Inn and Resort complex;
including its lush green golf course and refreshing swimming pool. There are a
few other areas of the park that are just as jaw dropping; the Saline Valley Marsh in
the West, the Cottonball Marsh in the central part of the park and Saratoga Springs
and Valley Springs, to the south. So why is there such a drastic difference between
these rare habitats within Death Valley National Park and the others? The answer
is simple ... the accessibility of water. These areas either have large ponds, some
measuring six acres or more, or are fed by several of the parks natural springs.
Saratoga Springs in particular is home to some very rare species not found anywhere
else in the world including the Saratoga Springs Pupfish, the Amargosa Spring Snail

Poverty Of Progress, And The House Of Spirits
After decades of fighting for their independence, the newly formed countries of the
New World were now free to do as they pleased. The problem was, no one truly
knew what to expect. This essay uses the books The Poverty of Progress by E.
Bradford Burns and The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende, to analyze Latin
American during its national period. The post independence nineteenth and twentieth
centuries are crucial to understanding the core of Latin America, and how it came to
be what it is today. Latin American during this period was filled with transcendental
changes as well as various continuous patterns regarding political, economic, cultural,

In The Poverty of Progress Burns talks about the one dimensional view of the
nineteenth century (Burns, 35) people had during the 1980 s. This is because all
the historians from the national period came from the same background; they
were all white, elite males. Out of sixty three historians, there was only one female.
This clearly shows that females were not given the same opportunities as males
with respect to education, regardless what social class they belonged to. In Allende
s The House of Spirits, critical changes regarding the women s role are apparent
through Clara s, Blanca s, and Alba s actions throughout the novel. Each member
of the del Valle family plays a more significant role in society as a woman. Clara
defied the stereotypical role of a wife by being absent most of the time in her
house, and not paying close attention to her husband. Blanca, Clara s daughter,
opposed it by running away with her lover, Pedro Tercero. And last but not least,
Alba, was the first female in her family to enroll in a university. Another example of
a woman s role changing in society is Transito Soto. The young prostitute who
began working in a brothel close to Las Tres Marias, was now running a profitable
hotel in the city. Transito Soto had become remarkably good

Visayan descent. Duterte was among the longest serving mayors in the Philippines
and has been the mayor of Davao City for 7 terms that sums up to more than 22

Rodrigo Duterte deserves to be the next president of the Philippines because he has
strict implementation of laws. He has made Davao City as one of the safest country in
the world. Duterte, through Executive Order No. 24, ordered all shopping malls

When figuring out the costs for revenues you need to figure out how much the
network will earn from all the scans done throughout the five year period. When
configuring revenue associated with scans you need to look for total payments which
are nineteen thousand and six hundred and ninety then multiple total payments by
fifty weeks. This equals out to nine hundred and eighty four thousand and five
hundred annually, then multiple the annual revenue by five years. The total scan
revenue for five years comes out to four million and nine hundred and twenty two
thousand and five hundred dollars. The next amount added to the revenues for the
physician s network is the amount the MRI machine can be salvaged for which are
seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars. The next equation to configure is the total
revenue costs. How you configure the total revenue costs is by adding the total scan
revenues and the salvage costs, which equals out to five million and six hundred and
seventy two thousand and five hundred dollars. The final equation is to figure out the
net revenues of the MRI machine and that is to take the total revenues and subtract
the total expenses for five years. The total revenue is five million and six hundred and
seventy two thousand and five hundred and you then subtract the total expenses,
which is

Zora Neale Hurston s short story Sweat takes place in the 1920s in a small African
American community in southern Florida. The story takes a look at a woman
dominated by her husband, a common issue for many wives in the south during
this time. Delia Jones, the protagonist in the story, is a hard working woman who
has bought her own home and supported her husband for fifteen years by taking in
the laundry of white folks from the next town over. Delia s husband Sykes does not
value her or the work she does to support the both of them. Sykes has abused his wife
for fifteen years and takes no shame in parading around his fat mistress for all to see.

Depending on who is speaking at the time, the tone of Sweat seems either one of
anger and frustration, one of hope and determination, or one of sadness and
despair. When Sykes speaks the tone is angry and evil because almost everything
that comes out of his mouth is negative. In comparison, When Delia speaks the
tone rings more of peace, hope, and determination. When the narrator chimes in the
tone seems sad because he/she informs the reader of the upsetting truths about
Delia s marriage and the many hardships she has had to face throughout the story.
Delia represents the good in the story. She remains calm, level headed, and
spiritually in tune despite her husband s determination to make her miserable. Once
a right pretty li l trick, Delia is now worn and dried out like sugar cane that s been
chewed to no end ( Sweat 43). However her soul remains strong as she turns to her
spirituality for comfort and hope. She has smarts although uneducated and the fact
that she built her own house and now supports her and her husband by washing
white people s clothes demonstrates her strength and determination. Delia is a
dynamic character as shown early in the story with this quote: She seized the iron
skillet from the stove and struck a defensive pose, which act surprised him greatly,
coming from her. Sykes dumbfounded reaction to Delia s defensive action allows the
reader to assume that this
Ronald Reagan s Positive Influences
There were many influential individuals that shaped the world around what people
do today in everyday life. In the 20th century, influential people either changed the
way we lived today for the good or for the bad. One major political influential figure
was Ronald Reagan. He has been credited with ending the cold war, which abolished
many of the political and military tensions between the Eastern and Western Blocs.
He called the former USSR government wicked and demanded for the Berlin Wall,
that separated east and West Germany, to be torn down. I believe Ronald Reagan, a
former double termed president of the United States and actor, changed society for
the better for his choices in politics and what he had done with the military and cold
war. His actions shaped the world then and continue to do so now. His philosophy
still dominates politics today as he is often quoted and referenced by current
prominent leaders especially regarding fiscal policies.
Ronald Reagan created a Strategic Defense Initiative that was intended to defend the
United States from any nuclear weapon missile threat from other countries. This was
proposed mainly to protect the U.S. from its extent threat, which was the Soviet Union
at the time. Reagan wrote down in his diary addressing his Evil Empire Speech, I
did the bulk of the speech on why our arms build up was necessary and then finished
with a call to the Science community to join me in research starting now to develop a
defensive weapon that
The Cold War During World War II
The Cold War was a major event in the U.S. and Soviet Union s history. The main
reason that these two countries entered into the Cold War after World War II was
power. The USSR and United States had two very different perspectives on power
coming out of World War II. This disagreement ultimately caused the Cold War
.
Russia s perspective after World War II was influenced by Joseph Stalin. Stalin, the
leader of the USSR at the time, was a merciless dictator. His main concern was
maintaining power and assuring the Soviet Union s influence worldwide. During
WWII, the Soviet Union lost more than just lives. In addition to the deaths of 20
million citizens, they lost a large amount of their agricultural and industrial resources.
Stalin wanted those who were responsible for this mass destruction to pay and rebuild
the Soviet economy.
The United States had a very different perspective than the Soviet Union. During
WWII, the U.S. experienced far less casualties than the USSR at only 400,000
deaths. It also managed to avoid gunfire on the U.S. mainland. These factors
influenced the U.S. perspective after the war. Harry S. Truman was a major
influence on the U.S. perspective after World War II as well. He came into the office
with very little experience internationally and believed that the U.S. needed to have
overseas opportunities in order to have a flourishing economy. To ensure this
economic prosperity, the United States had to work well with countries that had few

Edmund promised the Witch that he d bring his siblings, and he d get more Turkish

Spanish had great expectations of Florida despite of the obstacles they had to face,

In Parramore v. Parramore, 61 Fla. 701, 703 (1911), the Supreme Courtof Florida

If they outgrow us that means the Hebrew will out number the Egyptians so
therefore if the Hebrews wanted to take over they will be able to because they

that all Hebrew baby boys are to be put to death at birth.

Type II Supernovae
Type II supernova results from the rapid collapse and explosion of a massive star.
For a star to explode as a type II supernova it must be several times more massive
than the sun. it is estimated that their mass must be at least 8 times greater than that
of the sun, but no more than 40 50 times the suns mass.
Stars generate energy via nuclear fusion of elements. Stars of the magnitude great
enough to become type II supernovae possess the mass needed to fuse elements that
have an atomic mass greater than hydrogen and helium. The energy generated by
these fusion reactions is large enough that it is able to counter the force of gravity
and prevent the star from collapsing, maintaining stellar equilibrium. The helium

be perceived as unsure or as a leader who doesn t have answers. Debra Burrell says,
Men tend to be quicker at making decisions, compared to women. Male managers
are also more adept at forming what management psychologist Ken Siegel calls
navigational relationships, or temporary teams set up to achieve short term goals.
Men also tend to be decisive, logical, aggressive, and often more independent than
woman. As men and woman work more closely together, they are learning from one
another and picking up characteristics from one another; thus improving the quality
of working relationships and becoming more productive. Age With the fact that
today s workplace has individuals that vary in age; most employees can be placed
into one of 4 categories: Mature, Baby Boomer, Generation X ers and Millenials.
The members of each group, based on age, are generally easy to identify; however
definitely have different characteristics. The
The Film Halloween, By Michael Myers
Michael Myers is A Monster to The American Society
As you grow older your views on what you fear change. As a child, I developed a
fear of little things such as ghosts, the dark, etc. Once I grow into an adult I
developed a of things observed on a daily. Americans between the age group of
children and adolescents introduce themselves to bigger fears by watching
movies that replayed on the already experienced fears. For example: Freddy
Krueger, Jason, Vampires, Werewolves, etc. Many people in society watch these
horror movies, and movie goers assume that directors based the movies on serial
killers, who become glorified for the crimes committed and made into huge stars
that we love. In the film Halloween, a little boy name Michael Myers kills his sister
at the age of six. Twenty years later, Michael return s to his home town Haddonfield,
Illinois to kill a group of teenagers that appear around his deceased sister age.
Halloween identifies as one of those gruesome films that you question, because he
was a six year old when he first killed. To society Michael exemplifies monster
qualities because at that age, how can someone so young stab his sister or anyone to
death. Michael Myers poses as a Monster in America, he demonstrates traits of the
devil in him and express his hate by killing his family, by existing in a dysfunctional
family.
Michael watches his sister over sexualize herself, which leads him to kill his sister.
During the 1970 s movies concentrated on
The Rise Of D-Day During WWII
D Day was a long and difficult battle. Many things happened during it that were
good and bad. Here is what happened on D Day during WWII.
The Americans started to prepare D Day during WWII in December 1941. In 1942
the Americans and the British were planning to have an Allied invasion. In November
1943, Adolf Hitler put a man by the name Erwin Rommel in charge of defense
operations in France s Northern coast when he learned about an invasion that would
be there. In January 1944, General Dwight Eisenhower became the commander of
something called, Operation Overlord , which was a plan that was believed to be
certain success. Not long after that, Allies tricked the Germans into believing certain
locations were good places for invasions.
Secure Under Roman Rule, Sadducees were Influential in...
The Sadducees were a very influential group in Judaism, many being priests
(Wenham and Walton 40). There was no worry to the Sadducees of losing their
position because it was secure under Roman rule (Wenham and Walton 41). Their
beliefs were different from the Pharisees in that they did not practice oral traditions,
that is verbally telling the stories of the Scriptures. Even though they accepted the
Old Testament scriptures, they only practiced the beliefs that were in the Pentateuch,
which is the first five books from the Old Testament (Murphy 239; Wenham and
Walton 42). Another underlying belief the Sadducees had was their disbelief in
resurrection as well as they did not believe in fate (Evans 100; Wenham and Walton
42). Furthermore,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, they had the belief that God would only redeem the Essenes. This is
shown in writings of the Dead Sea Scrolls where it says Through an upright and
humble attitude his sin may be covered, and by humbling himself before all God s
laws his flesh can be made clean. Only thus can he really receive the purifying
waters and be purged by the cleansing flow (Evans 250 251). The Essenes saw that
they were the only Jews who were acting upon the purity laws rightly, and therefore
were the only people whom God would redeem. In part of their law they state, only
the pure may enter to take a place in the congregation of the men of reputation
(Evans 243). Prayer was very important to the Essenes (Evans 239). This is shown
through the many different types of prayers practiced such as Festival, Mealtime,
and Morning Prayers (Evans 239 241). Furthermore, songs of worship to God were
also very important to them.
During Jesus s time on earth, many people were expectant of a messiah who would
be human, despite what the Old Testament said about the messiah being divine.
(Evans 308). Though this is not to say that some people did expect a divine
messiah, because many did, leading some to worship and divinize their rulers
(Evans 309 311). Furthermore, when people knew he was the Messiah, Jesus told
them not to tell anyone, as they had to find out for themselves (Mark 8:2 30;
Thomson). This is because he wanted them to realize this on their own. In Mark 8,

A New Single Of John Legend
Introduction:
Pentatonix recently released a new single of John Legend s Imagine on their
YouTube page and with their incredible grace left a message for the viewers like
never before. During the video, each member holds up a white piece of cardboard
with a label to describe themselves, LGBTQ+, American, Black, Christian, Jewish,
then would hand it over to the next person with that label that also describes them
but they would then flip the cardboard over to reveal a new word. The chain
continues showing that one person may be American and Jewish, but someone else
is American and Black. Then to complete their message at the end of the song each
member holds up a piece of cardboard together spelling out Human. The group

RESPECT each other. Our nation (and world) feels more divisive than ever, and we
believed it was important to take advantage of our ability to showcase that diversity
IS harmony. We hope you enjoy our cover of John Lennon s timeless classic Imagine

This video is meant to unite the world and add support to the fight against
discrimination, yes, everyone is different and unique, but their point is that despite all
the differences everyone is still human and that is what unites us as the human race.
Argument 1:
The world we live in today is extremely diverse and with such diversity, stereotypes
arise in order to organize people into groups, these stereotypes as argued by many
commenters are meaningless. As mentioned in the video we are all human and the
labels people identify themselves with are transparent and the human aspect is what
counts. This idea that divine or social matters are not of utmost importance relays
back to the ideals of humanism, an idea, stating.
Humanism is a democratic and ethical life stance that affirms that human beings have
the right and responsibility to give meaning and shape to their own lives. Humanism
stands for the building of a more humane society
The Achievements Of Theodore Roosevelt
One of the most important people in American history is Theodore Roosevelt. He is
considered to be one of the most efficient and successful presidents to ever hold
office. The achievements that he accomplished during his life will most likely never
be equaled. He went from being a husband and father to being a soldier to becoming
president of the United States. Along with contributing to his time period, his legacy
continued and went on to influence other great presidents. Roosevelt also helped
society in general and pushed it in the right direction by always doing what he
thought was right.
Early Life
Theodore Roosevelt was born in New York City on October 27, 1858. His family
owned, a successful plate glass import business (Bio.com, 2012, p. 2) that did well
enough for his father to be a philanthropist. Theodore was not able to have a typical
childhood because he suffered from many illnesses and asthma. His father pushed
him into sports, thinking it would make him healthier and help him get rid of his
sicknesses. He started to practice rigorous physical activities such as boxing and
weightlifting and they ended up helping with his asthma.
Education
Roosevelt s parents and other tutors were the ones that taught him when he was
young because he was homeschooled. He excelled in history, geography, and
biology but was not as good in other subjects such as math. Theodore entered
Harvard on September 27, 1876 . While attending college, his father passed away

Consequentialism
Introduction:
For this Unit 2 assignment I have chosen the the ethical type Consequentialism. This
is defined as Consequentialism: An action is morally right if the consequences of that
action are more favorable than unfavorable. (ref 1)
After looking at the definition of the ethical type of Consequentialism, I would like
to give a short example in my own words what I understand Consequentialism is.
Consequentialism is the ethical reasoning that would apply to a situation where the
needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Or what is less evil or bad in any
particular situation ? You would make that choice based on the ethical type
Consequentialism. So in my life I believe that I have had to make ethical decisions
based on this ethical type. Whether it be at work at home with the family or with
friends. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I want to give you a real life example that happened to me 30 years ago when I was
living and working in Germany. Now we had a group of guys that would love to go
to the disco on Saturday nights in Germany. Now I lived in Germany and could drive
but it was always a German guy that drove and DID NOT drink. One day they asked
me to be the driver, I happily agreed and off we went. At the disco I DRANK !
because in the USA the crime or punishment to drink and drive was not as severe as
it was in Germany ! But not only that it was for a German ethically NOT acceptable
to drink and drive where as in The USA it was not considered as critical or it did
not become an ethical issue. So I drank.. Now after the disco closed and we went to
the car the Germans had noticed that I was drunk and DID not get into the car ! Wow
talk about great ethics and ethics of the Consequentialism type. It was ETHICALLY
impossible for them to get in the car. Instead they considered me a idiot and we had
to walk 10 miles back to town ! 30 years ago NO one
Being A Black Woman Essay

slavery to end in 1865. In the absence of rights or freedom, my ancestors were put

for equality. Although we are free the fight has still remain. As a black women raised

IV. Question 2 Compare and contrast Milton s Raphael with Pope s Ariel in as
many respects as you can. John Milton and Alexander Pope both write of
supporting characters that are sent to protect the main character in their stories.
Both Ariel and Raphael have many similar qualities that make them a character
that is used to bring warning to the protagonist and to foreshadow to readers what
the outcome of the story will be. Ariel is a sylph, or a magical being that was a
coquette in his life before. Although this is distinctly different than Raphael s
identity as one of God s angels, they share several qualities. Both are described as
being very friendly and gentle. Ariel warns Belinda through a dream in attempt to
protect her from the stealing of a lock of her hair. Raphael is sent to Eden to
become friends with Adam and to warn him of the sin that is lying in wait for
them. Both of these guardians are seeking protection for the human and desire for
them to be kept from evil. They also try to relate to the humans. Ariel understands
Belinda s vanity and pride in her appearance because he once was a coquette as
well. He even assists in her thorough morning routine. Raphael is also able to relate
to Adam through the discussion of love. Adam asks him about angel s love lives
and Raphael is able to understand Adam s struggle to not idolize his love for Eve.
Angels seem to have many qualities that are similar to Adam and Eve s, which
makes it very easy for Raphael to

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Over The Hedge
The author of Animating Revolt and Revolting Animation, Judith Halberstam, uses
rhetorical strategies to speak to her point that animated movies can be used to
reach a wide ranging audience to convey deep underlying messages in a way that is
entertaining for all. The author points out how Pixar movies brings non traditional
characters to life and faces them against real life struggles but does so in a happy
ending manor that captivates audiences. This is accomplished by the author
introducing a plot line from a Pixar movie that illustrates a struggle or classic battle
and then describes the characters that are in the struggle and how they live through
it. The author then describes an actual real life struggle and relates it back to the
animated movie. Judith Halberstam points out that the movie Chicken Run illustrates
how aggressive industrial businesses maximize profits above anything else or
businesses that have a partnership between owners and workers to maximize profits.

In this case, this movie shows simple folk who are invaded by modern society.
When the creatures awake from their hibernation they discover that while they were
sleeping, a soulless suburban development stole their woodland space and the
humans have erected a huge partition, a hedge, to fence them out (Halberstam 10).
For the creatures who lived in the woods that were taken over by the humans, the
simple life is replaced by fast moving, wasteful and irresponsible people. These
animals had to adapt to the changes in their new environment, food choices, new
creatures, and relationships with those creatures. They had to work to outgrow their
title of vermin given to them by the humans by proving that this was their territory
and they were not going to let it be taken away from

Visual Arts Project Analysis
I m highly interested in proposing ways to create an artistic program for
underprivileged youth. After coming across young children from low income during
my media project in Romania, it has inspired me to implement a program to engage
youth with the arts. Some students are often gifted with the opportunity to pursue
their artistic expression; I want to help children who don t have the same equity to
enjoy visual arts educationin their spare time. In addition, from my previous
experience with arts in high school, I want to provide a program that gives the same
opportunities of artistic expression and leadership skills for young students in
marginalized communities in the Greater Toronto Area.

schools with grades 7 or 8 report having a specialist visual arts teacher. . . (Gill 5).
In this report, it listed several ways in which the arts education is lacking among
elementary and high schools in Ontario. The benefits for my proposed arts
program is it will help expand the access for arts education outside of school in
Ontario. My program can do this by providing visual arts classes that will teach
children how to paint, draw, and sketch while relieving stress among participants. My
program will be able to reach out to students passionate for the arts that don t have the

Mule Killers
Progress Does Not Always Lead to a Better Life
Life, in the primitive sense of the word, means moving through time towards
inevitable death. Progression, by definition, means development towards a destination
or more advanced state. Life in the emotional aspect explores love, and with love
there will always be shortcomings and complexities. Progression, life, destruction, and
love are themes in the short story Mule Killers by Lydia Peelle. The short story is a
story within a story, and it is first person narration from the point of view of a son
retelling the story of his father and his grandfather. The story thereby tells the stories
of three different generations of men. The setting is in Nashville Tennessee, the time
period is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the son tells the story he reveals that to develop is not necessarily a good
thing, three weeks after the last load of mules is taken, one of the tractors
overturns on a hill down by the river and nearly kills one of the hands (3). As soon
as the town drove all the mules out and replaced them with tractors it backfired a
helper was almost killed. The son then goes on to say it is not an unexpected
tragedy (3), alluding that the father and grandfather did not really want to progress
but had to, and foresaw bad things to occur. This quote can also be a parallel to the
family as the son was an acciden, , one that could have been predicted since there is
no love in the family. The grandfather drives the help to the hospital and on his way
home there was a car crash, upon seeing his son (the father) he says: Son, you re
gonna see a future I can t even stretch my mind around. Not any of it. I can t even
begin to imagine (4). The grandfather is scared of the future and doubtful of the
progress that is happening, right after the father tells him he is going to have a child,
another tragedy that day. Both accidents demonstrate to them that progress is not
always bettering the state of ones life; the mule killers almost killed someone, and,
similarly, starting a new generation in the family was a mistake.
In that both the grandfather and the father hope to progress in their lives, to be part of
industrialization and to gain control of

It s engraved into our lives, not only is it a fun way to relax, but swimming is a survival skill needed for many species to use in their lives. Swimming is part of nature, almost every living species has a natural instinct of how to swim right from birth, but humans don t, why do you think that is? Over the years, swimmingfrom a competition stand point has advanced and changed along with technology. It appears that our world is governed according to a man s perspective and thoughts as to how the world should be run, and women gracefully bow down to this perspective and internalize those male supremacist notions of patriarchal dominance. Even with this seemingly innate belief that men have, it is still apparent at times that there is another view that is often glossed over and ignored in the pursuit of extreme power and superiority. In Edwidge Danticat s The Farming of Bones and Julia Alvarez s In the Time of Butterflies, we are able to dissect society through the eyes of women who have had... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even in The Farming of Bones, we see that Amabelle s being seems to depend on the opinions and actions of Sebastien. She shows this devotion to a man when she says Yesterday Juana called me a nonbeliever because I don t normally pray to the saints, I said. She asked me if I believed in anything, and all I could think to say was Sebastien (Danticat 65). In other words, the way that her life is going is the result of her belief in Sebastien and how he sees and treats her. While both texts give the view of women within each of these societies, the two texts are still infused with patriarchal thoughts and emotions. For instance, Amabelle s story does give an accurate account of the destruction in the sense that she gives us an actual account of the tragedies even in the story of one of the companions on her trip to Haiti being shot down right behind her (Danticat 201). Her account though focuses so much on Sebastien and his decisions that the text can almost be seen as an extension of Sebastien s thoughts only the thoughts are coming through the body of a woman. In the same token, the Mirabell sisters are consequentially important parts of the fight against injustice, but their fights become more focused on themselves than on their societies as a whole. Also, their rebellion decreases when their husbands are imprisoned and they are left alone. At
  • 5. Recovery From A Mental Health The term Recovery carries many differing definitions both in the Medical and Mental Health domains. In medical terms, recovery is the act of regaining or returning to a normal or health state, being cured or experiencing no current symptoms (Mental Health Foundation UK, 2015). Recovery from a mental health problem can be understood either as an outcome or as a process. Also known as clinical recovery an outcome is present depends on whether the symptoms/problems are present or absent (SerafГn Lemos GirГЎldez 2015). Usually involving a reduction or absence of symptoms and a significant improvement in occupational and social functioning, an outcome does not change from person to person. On the other hand, individuals who go through a process in order to live a joyful and fulfilling life, experience personal recovery. (SerafГn Lemos GirГЎldez 2015). This form of recovery involves learning to become self managing of one s illness, whether recurring symptoms are at that point in time present and working towards a self caring, independent and fulfilling life. The definition of a satisfying like varies from one individual to the next. This is why each consumer s recovery journey is personal and tailored to fit their goals and beliefs (SerafГn Lemos GirГЎldez 2015). According to the United Kingdom s Mental Health foundation (2015) the concept of recovery is about the individual staying in control of their life despite experiencing a mental health problem. The aim of the

Modern Culture And Culture Of The Ancient Greek Theater Ancient Greek Theater Greece is the protГ©gГ© of theatre and in turn stands as the basis of Western theatrical tradition; as a large part of the broader culture of theatricality and performance. In classical Greece included festivals, religious rituals, politics, law, athletics and gymnastics, music, poetry, weddings, funerals, and symposiums. In the original culture of the Greek theatre they stressed the importance of the twelve Olympian gods, advanced technology, theatrical stage, first actor, and rise of different genres. Due to these ideals and stresses, Greek style theatre is still prevalent today; we are very privileged to see the growth theater had since it first started out and to see that the old ways still persist today. Back in the Classical period, 500 to 200 B.C., theatre served solely and mostly dealt with honoring their Dodekatheon (twelve gods) rather than entertaining the crowd and provoking thought for future analysis. Arguably the theatre was the most important part of the Athenian religious and social culture where everyone who worked extremely hard throughout the year would look forward to the month that was dedicated to one of their most venerated gods, Dionysus. Imagine living in 400 B.C. or around there, and celebrating life for an entire month during the summer without having any obligations towards yourself, or anyone around you. The human nature of Paul Baumer changes dramatically as he must conform his life to that of a cold, harsh, unforgiving German soldier. Every event that occurs when the novel begins to unravel as each man has a mess tin full for the evening, to the moment where Remarque shifts to show fighting the oversized, disgusting rats in order to get a crust off an old sandwich exemplifies the war. The idea that Duval blindly jumps to his death as if he were up for slaughter like a lamb that represents all young soldiers where their human nature, fear, controls life as they know it. Paul s human nature has lead him to the killing of printer, GГ©rard Duval because the time on leave changes him between the unnecessary praising and the deterioration of his beloved potato maker s illness. The war has affected human nature as Remarque varies it from guilt, sorrow, joy and to go as far as no feelings as he becomes desensitized before seeing his mom that makes him realize the guilt that lives with him that leads to the act he committed against Duval as if it has no effect. The idea of the Iron Youth is coined to show that soldier are unstoppable but emotional the most affected because the death of friends, Kemmerich does not emotionally bother him with the exception of sorrow. The Lincoln Douglas Debates are by far one of the truest examples of this happening. The seven debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas that took place in 1858 had extreme importance in Illinois that created effects that decided the presidential election of 1860. The Lincoln Douglas debates were a series of several debates that took place all over the state of Illinois. This conspiracy, of course, was being partly conspired by Stephen Douglas. Three weeks later, Stephen Douglas refuted these claims while also calling Abraham Lincoln a dangerous abolitionist (Looking for Lincoln). Being an abolitionist at the time held a very negative connotation because abolitionists were often irrational extremists (Morel 4). The following evening, in the exact same place as Douglas had spoken, Lincoln spoke once more. The first reason is that the poem shows how many women were prevented of achieving more than just a good wife (which is not bad if the woman wants so). For example, the speaker says, The massive weight of Uncle s wedding band/ Sits heavily upon Aunt Jennifer s hand (7 8). This show how she is restrained in this marriagewhich is a load in her life. The next reason is the marriage is not how it appears to be on many circumstance. For instance, the speaker notes, When Aunt is dead, her terrified hands will lie (9). The idea of beautiful hands is a sign that a man or womandoes need to work under extreme conditions, and thus, that person has a good life; however, the lie is that that person does not have that good life that others might perceive. The last reason is that the tigers in the poem play an important role because they are a symbolism of how women should be. In the line 3 and 12, the raconteur states They do not fear the men beneath the tree and Will go on prancing, proud and unafraid . It shows the idea that women should not be fear of men and they are also as capable as men to do whatever they propose to do. The question I hope to answer is why the author wrote the poem, and what was her purpose in doing so (what she wanted to change). The first reason is that Adrienne Rich not only knew and realized the predicament of many others woman but she suffered herself. For example, the speaker notes, When Aunt is dead, her terrified hands will lie (9). The hands are given human attributes which is known as personification, but hand cannot be terrified or lie; nevertheless, this line implies that something was not good in Jennifer s life, and she had to support all the pain by herself. In addition, the narrator states, The massive weight of Uncle s wedding band/ Sits heavily upon Aunt Jennifer s hand (7 8). A wedding band is not heavy per se, but this line implies that she felt trapped on a promise that she could not escape from and a very destructive environment. Moreover, Cassandra Langer in her article says, Her 1951 poem Aunt Jennifer s Tigers traces the beginning of her feelings

  • 17. Natural Wonderss On Natural Wonders In The Medieval Century Wonders during the medieval era played a vast or minuscule role in engineering. Although people during this time sought to learn and implemented the wonders found by travel writers others were not so open to this new idea. Which also means that the definition of wonder differed for the courts and the monasteries. Travel writers such as Marco Polo who reported Kublai Khan s famous levitating cups helped raise the discipline of engineeringby helping others built artificial wonders with this information (93). But also during this time with this new information a new distinction between artisanship and engineering was brought up.Overall medieval topographical and travel literature on natural wonders shaped and raised the discipline of engineering by giving definition and growth to many European courts. During the medieval era, courts were influenced by romance literature to further improve their military. The romances of Eneas and the Roman of de Troie described the wonders of art and ancient courtly engineering. For example in Eneas, Carthage was depicted with walls made of marble and adamant painted a hundred colors and topped with three rows of magnets to incapacitate armed attackers (89). The three rows of magnets, one of the many wonders described by travel writer during this time, was used as a military tactic to disable armed attackers from proceeding with their attack. In the tombs of Camilia, a similar tactic was used with magnets moreover a magic mirror was

  • 20. Humanism In The Renaissance Art Final Exam 1.In general, humanism is considered as a focus on the actions of human beings. (Sayre 66). This focus came to light after the Middle Ages, where art only centered around God and religion. The Renaissance period marked a shift from a Christian centered view to a humanistic emphasis that was expressed in the paintings, music, and sculptures. Renaissance artists were also able to redefine humanism through the recovery, study, and spread of the art and literature of Greece and Rome, and the application of their principles to education, politics, social life, and the arts in general. (Sayre 205). A paintingthat really exemplifies the significance of humanism to the Renaissance period is the School of Athens by Raphael. Raphael created this piece as way of demonstrating the worth of human beings in the midst of their scholarly pursuits. He highlights the recovery of Greek and Roman art and literature through the numerous references and symbols relating to past scholars and gods. Through the use of one point perspective, the art piece immediately points the attention of the audience to the two figures of Aristotle and Socrates. By putting Aristotle and Socrates in the center, Raphael emphasizes the central theme of humanism through putting humans themselves in the middle. These philosophers also demonstrate how education and pursuit of knowledge became a beacon of the human worth. Another recognizable illustration of humanism is the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da

These changes had a tremendous effect in the discipline. Political philosophy continued to progress which affected both political theory and political science. It seems that with the progression of political philosophy, there was a growing need for the the discipline to become more scientific. They wanted it to be based on facts, to become value free and to be precise. Political philosophystarted veering away from the classics. Despite the continuous need to be scientific, there were still groups which remained inclined to the classics and believed that the traditions and values are essential in studying the discipline. These conflicting views concerning the traditionalists and the behavioralists caused the gap between political philosophy and political scienceand eventually the two separated. So it seems that as political philosophy progress, political science branched outside the academe and political theory, as it grew larger became more and more alienated. In The Poverty of Progress Burns talks about the one dimensional view of the nineteenth century (Burns, 35) people had during the 1980 s. This is because all the historians from the national period came from the same background; they were all white, elite males. Out of sixty three historians, there was only one female. This clearly shows that females were not given the same opportunities as males with respect to education, regardless what social class they belonged to. In Allende s The House of Spirits, critical changes regarding the women s role are apparent through Clara s, Blanca s, and Alba s actions throughout the novel. Each member of the del Valle family plays a more significant role in society as a woman. Clara defied the stereotypical role of a wife by being absent most of the time in her house, and not paying close attention to her husband. Blanca, Clara s daughter, opposed it by running away with her lover, Pedro Tercero. And last but not least, Alba, was the first female in her family to enroll in a university. Another example of a woman s role changing in society is Transito Soto. The young prostitute who began working in a brothel close to Las Tres Marias, was now running a profitable hotel in the city. • 34. The Cold War During World War II The Cold War was a major event in the U.S. and Soviet Union s history. The main reason that these two countries entered into the Cold War after World War II was power. The USSR and United States had two very different perspectives on power coming out of World War II. This disagreement ultimately caused the Cold War . Russia s perspective after World War II was influenced by Joseph Stalin. Stalin, the leader of the USSR at the time, was a merciless dictator. His main concern was maintaining power and assuring the Soviet Union s influence worldwide. During WWII, the Soviet Union lost more than just lives. In addition to the deaths of 20 million citizens, they lost a large amount of their agricultural and industrial resources. Stalin wanted those who were responsible for this mass destruction to pay and rebuild the Soviet economy. The United States had a very different perspective than the Soviet Union. During WWII, the U.S. experienced far less casualties than the USSR at only 400,000 deaths. It also managed to avoid gunfire on the U.S. mainland. These factors influenced the U.S. perspective after the war. Harry S. Truman was a major influence on the U.S. perspective after World War II as well. He came into the office with very little experience internationally and believed that the U.S. needed to have overseas opportunities in order to have a flourishing economy. To ensure this economic prosperity, the United States had to work well with countries that had few trading

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Historically speaking, women truly have not been a part of the workforce for very long yet they often bring new and refreshing ideas and approaches. Debra Burrell, the regional training director of the Mars Venus Institute in New York says, Women managers tend to have more of a desire to build than a desire to win. Women are more willing to explore, compromise, and to solicit other people s opinions. By contrast, men often think if they ask other people for advice, they ll be perceived as unsure or as a leader who doesn t have answers. Debra Burrell says, Men tend to be quicker at making decisions, compared to women. Male managers are also more adept at forming what management psychologist Ken Siegel calls navigational relationships, or temporary teams set up to achieve short term goals. Men also tend to be decisive, logical, aggressive, and often more independent than woman. As men and woman work more closely together, they are learning from one another and picking up characteristics from one another; thus improving the quality of working relationships and becoming more productive. Age With the fact that today s workplace has individuals that vary in age; most employees can be placed into one of 4 categories: Mature, Baby Boomer, Generation X ers and Millenials. As a child, I developed a fear of little things such as ghosts, the dark, etc. Once I grow into an adult I developed a of things observed on a daily. Americans between the age group of children and adolescents introduce themselves to bigger fears by watching movies that replayed on the already experienced fears. For example: Freddy Krueger, Jason, Vampires, Werewolves, etc. Many people in society watch these horror movies, and movie goers assume that directors based the movies on serial killers, who become glorified for the crimes committed and made into huge stars that we love. In the film Halloween, a little boy name Michael Myers kills his sister at the age of six. Twenty years later, Michael return s to his home town Haddonfield, Illinois to kill a group of teenagers that appear around his deceased sister age. Halloween identifies as one of those gruesome films that you question, because he was a six year old when he first killed. There was no worry to the Sadducees of losing their position because it was secure under Roman rule (Wenham and Walton 41). Their beliefs were different from the Pharisees in that they did not practice oral traditions, that is verbally telling the stories of the Scriptures. Even though they accepted the Old Testament scriptures, they only practiced the beliefs that were in the Pentateuch, which is the first five books from the Old Testament (Murphy 239; Wenham and Walton 42). Another underlying belief the Sadducees had was their disbelief in resurrection as well as they did not believe in fate (Evans 100; Wenham and Walton 42). Furthermore,... This is shown in writings of the Dead Sea Scrolls where it says Through an upright and humble attitude his sin may be covered, and by humbling himself before all God s laws his flesh can be made clean. Only thus can he really receive the purifying waters and be purged by the cleansing flow (Evans 250 251). The Essenes saw that they were the only Jews who were acting upon the purity laws rightly, and therefore were the only people whom God would redeem. In part of their law they state, only the pure may enter to take a place in the congregation of the men of reputation (Evans 243). Prayer was very important to the Essenes (Evans 239). This is shown through the many different types of prayers practiced such as Festival, Mealtime, and Morning Prayers (Evans 239 241). Furthermore, songs of worship to God were also very important to them. During Jesus s time on earth, many people were expectant of a messiah who would be human, despite what the Old Testament said about the messiah being divine. (Evans 308). Though this is not to say that some people did expect a divine messiah, because many did, leading some to worship and divinize their rulers (Evans 309 311). This is because he wanted them to realize this on their own. In Mark 8, right after

John Milton and Alexander Pope both write of supporting characters that are sent to protect the main character in their stories. Both Ariel and Raphael have many similar qualities that make them a character that is used to bring warning to the protagonist and to foreshadow to readers what the outcome of the story will be. Ariel is a sylph, or a magical being that was a coquette in his life before. Although this is distinctly different than Raphael s identity as one of God s angels, they share several qualities. Both are described as being very friendly and gentle. Ariel warns Belinda through a dream in attempt to protect her from the stealing of a lock of her hair. Raphael is sent to Eden to become friends with Adam and to warn him of the sin that is lying in wait for them. Both of these guardians are seeking protection for the human and desire for them to be kept from evil. They also try to relate to the humans. Ariel understands Belinda s vanity and pride in her appearance because he once was a coquette as well. He even assists in her thorough morning routine. Raphael is also able to relate to Adam through the discussion of love. Adam asks him about angel s love lives and Raphael is able to understand Adam s struggle to not idolize his love for Eve. Angels seem to have many qualities that are similar to Adam and Eve s, which makes it very easy for Raphael to

The author points out how Pixar movies brings non traditional characters to life and faces them against real life struggles but does so in a happy ending manor that captivates audiences. This is accomplished by the author introducing a plot line from a Pixar movie that illustrates a struggle or classic battle and then describes the characters that are in the struggle and how they live through it. Progression, life, destruction, and love are themes in the short story Mule Killers by Lydia Peelle. When the son tells the story he reveals that to develop is not necessarily a good thing, three weeks after the last load of mules is taken, one of the tractors overturns on a hill down by the river and nearly kills one of the hands (3). As soon as the town drove all the mules out and replaced them with tractors it backfired a helper was almost killed. The son then goes on to say it is not an unexpected tragedy (3), alluding that the father and grandfather did not really want to progress but had to, and foresaw bad things to occur. This quote can also be a parallel to the family as the son was an acciden, , one that could have been predicted since there is no love in the family. The grandfather drives the help to the hospital and on his way home there was a car crash, upon seeing his son (the father) he says: Son, you re gonna see a future I can t even stretch my mind around. Not any of it. I can t even begin to imagine (4). The grandfather is scared of the future and doubtful of the progress that is happening, right after the father tells him he is going to have a child, another tragedy that day. Both accidents demonstrate to them that progress is not always bettering the state of ones life; the mule killers almost killed someone, and, similarly, starting a new generation in the family was a mistake. In that both the grandfather and the father hope to progress in their lives, to be part of industrialization and to gain control of
