Sphere Of Influence Analysis
The Sphere of Influence is located in Rossland, BC, a strong biking community in
the West Kootenay. The sphere was made in 2014 and was first installed in April
2015 by the community local Arts and Culture Council. It is created using old
collected bike wheels, spokes, and gears. The wheels are pieced together to form a
complete bubble, towering as high as the buildings surrounding it. Each piece of the
sculpture is moulded together and has rusted over time. None of the wheels are bent,
but instead fit together, matching the rims to make a sphere. It stands connected to a
rusted metal semi sphere cage that is bolted to a cement platform. There are all
different sorts of bike wheels that make up this sculpture, some are colourful and from

The sculpture has a rustic quality, and draws one s eye to it because of its large
scale. The art brings a purpose and beautifies a long time empty property between
two local businesses. It resides next to a sidewalk outside of the local bike shop,
brewery, and Laundromat. Next to the Sphere of Influence is a sign picketed that
states Art is for admiring, mountains are for climbing, which mean please do not
climb on the sculpture. This is significant because when I stood admiring the statue
a little boy ran up and started hanging off the wheels and poking his head into the
centre of the sphere. Because the artist used bike wheels as the main medium the
Sphere of Influence may influence one to enjoy biking. Arco Bears by John
Mckinnon is a sculpture of two black identical bears. One bear is placed aloft the
other balancing on its pals paws while the bear on the bottom balances on its back
with his head off reaching. The bears are located in Rossland, BC in the West
Kootenays. They make an echoing sound when knocked on meaning that they are
hollow. John Mckinnon uses welded steel and bronze to create Arco Bears . They
both have round bellies, like they ve eaten all of the neighbors
Parental Involvement And Academic Achievement
Parental Involvement and Academic Achievement:
When does a child become affected by the lack of parental involvement in their
lives? Some people may say when the child is older, and can fully understand what
s happening. Some even say that children know and feel the effect of the lack of
parental involvement when they are as young as Kindergarteners. There are even
some people who say that children will never feel the effects of the lack of parental
involvement. I disagree with each statement listed above. A child becomes affected
by parental involvement as soon as the child is conceived. Think about it, it is the
mother s decision on whether or not to take the right precautions and steps to ensure a
healthy pregnancy. If the mother is not looking out for the best interest of their
unborn child, the child can have long term effects. Even after birth a child is
affected by the decision of their parents. Whether or not a child is loved or
neglected plays a major role in proper development. A child will begin to either feel
comfortable or become withdrawn when they are put in circumstances as such.
Parental involvement is one of the most important things in a child s development. It
will help the child in all areas of development. What does parental involvement do?
According to the article Defining Parental Involvement: Perception of School
Administrators, parental involvement boosts a child s perceived level of competence
and autonomy, offers a sense of security and
The Pax Roman An Unprecedented Time Of History
For Rome the Pax Romana was an unprecedented time in history. For once there
was relative peace in the empire, for the rich at least. While there was peace from
enemy invaders there was internal conflict where the poor were being brutalized by
the government and the rich, making Rome a hotbed for political activity. Jesus
Christ did not set out to create a new religion, or to even challenge Roman authority
but that is what he did and for that he was executed. Jesus execution inadvertently
created the branch of religion we know as Christianitywhich would be Rome s
greatest internal threat. At the time of Jesus birth Rome was going through a time of
great peace called the Pax Romana , or Roman Peace. This Pax Romana,... Show

This could explain why a man, Jesus, was feared when he started to challenge the
status quot. Jesus did not set out to create a new religion, he set out to fix what he
saw wrong with Judaism at the time. Jesus moved his teachings from Herod s land,
who was a puppet of Rome, to Pontius Pilate s lands, who was a direct Roman ruler,
around the time of the Jewish holiday Passover. Religion and politics often
intertwined under Rome which made Passover a very politically and religiously
charged event; Jesus of Nazareth arrives to this event preaching of a coming
Kingdom of God which was the equivalent of shouting fire in a crowded room
(Video Part I). At this point, to most people, Jesus sounds like an Essen, one who
preached of a coming apocalypse, and the crowd is understandably getting antsy. In
addition to the preaching Jesus did, he also stormed into the Temple and overturned
vendor s tables, driving them out from the house of worship. Seeing that religion and
politics were so closely intertwined, Pontius Pilate saw this as an attack aimed
towards the Roman Empire, which was treason. Judaism was not an official state
religion of Rome at the time so the Romans tolerated the Jews, they didn t necessarily

Evaluation Of The Performance Appraisal
Performance appraisals are used in business today as a means of providing critical
feedback to employees on their performance in the workplace. In a global
environment, particular care needs to be exercised to ensure the message delivered
and received by employees is sensitive to the cultural differences between the
parties. This document will be discussing a situation where unintended
consequences arose during a performance appraisal. The document will provide for
a synopsis of the case study, background information, and some of the strengths and
weaknesses of the performance appraisal. A review of if the situation could have
been avoided and should the supervisor have anticipated the employee reaction will
also be discussed. Finally, a review of culturesensitivity in performance evaluations
will be analyzed and to determine if the interaction style between the parties was the
reason for the ultimate outcome.

Rennalls received an updated performance evaluation and provide what he felt was
critical feedback to Rennalls. This feedback had aspects that were both positive and

What started out as a trip to a Columbus tattoo parlor by a couple of football players
has created all sorts of mayhem for star quarterback Terrelle Pryor and Ohio State.
Pryor and four teammates were suspended Thursday by the NCAA for the first five
games of next season for selling championship rings, jerseys and awards. They also
received improper benefits from up to two years ago from the tattoo parlor and its

Children s Miracle Networks By Marie Osmond, John...
In 1983, Osmond Studios in Utah aired a Telethon resulting in $4.8 million raised
for 22 children s hospitals. This fundraiser led to the formation of the Children s
Miracle Networks by Marie Osmond, John Schneider, Joe Lake and Mick Shannon
(About Us, 2016). CMN s partnership with corporations, celebrities and individuals
displays positive public relations and tactics by which other non profits can model.
General Background
Children s Miracle Network, headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, was formed in
1983 by Marie Osmond, John Schneider, Mick Shannon and Joe Lake as what started
out as a Telethon. The company then quickly expanded into a major non profit
organization. Throughout the late 20th century, CMN employed multiple fundraising
tactics and acquired various corporate and celebrity sponsors (About Us, 2016).
Since 1983, CMN has raised over $5 billion to aid over 170 children s hospitals,
support research, help families financially and generate awareness (Financials,
2016). CMN governance consist of President and CEO John Lauck, a 17 member
board, and 155 paid staff members (Charity Report Children s Miracle Network,
2016). In 2014, employment costs totaled $16,882,159 (Audit, 2014). As defined in
CMN s 2014 audit, partnering hospitals (170 hospitals as of 2016) must pay a
membership fee and license in order to participate in fundraising and awareness
campaigns. Funds raised become unrestricted, however the hospital becomes CMN s
sole licensee.

The Underdog Man Quotes
Should a boy be considered a man because of his age?
In the novel, The Underdog by Markus Zusak, Cameron Wolfe explores
adolescence through the events and people in his life during one winter. The
question, Should a boy be considered a man because of his age? is a difficult one;
one that does not have a straightforward answer and is not clearly answered in the
novel. White Australian society deems that a boy is a man at the age of eighteen. In
other cultures, manhood is recognised after a boy completes a ritual. Manhood is a
lot of things; the least of which has to do with age. When a person is respectful,
responsible and aware of the needs of others, we can say that a boy can be considered
a man.
T: Respect is a value that is learned and earned and is important in order to become
a good man. E: We see in our media too many times, people who have lost respect
and shown disrespect. These people are often portrayed as role models or people
who are in significant positions. When we are confronted with these images, we
can be discouraged from our own journey to being respectful adults. E: Cameron is
aware of how disrespectful he has been to women when he looks at the Christmas
catalogue. He is angry that he could be so weak ... Show more content on

E: What might seem fun, or a good idea, or a way to pass the time, can keep males
in a state of perpetual boyhood. E: Ruben only saw the funny side of stealing a
give way sign, but his younger brother, began to see how dangerous this act could
be. Cameron even dreamt about the consequence of stealing the sign. Who is the
one moving from boyhood to manhood? Ruben the older brother who is supposed
to be leading by example, or Cameron who starts to the see the serious consequences
of his actions? L: Awareness of others in our journey to manhood develops our sense
of caring for others which become essential for men to look after their families and

We will try to overview the most commonly used options, giving priority to the
products that have been approved by FDA (Food and Drug Administration).
One of the best known and popular drugs is minoxidil. This was the first drug to be
approved by FDA for fighting hair loss and has been clinically proven to help stop
the thinning of hair and help them grow back by enlarging the hair follicle. Both
men and women can use it (usual concentration is 5% for men and 2% for women).
Minoxidil is designed for long term use and it takes about 3 months to see the results.
Here is our comparison of the four most popular minoxidil products:
All four products contains 5% minoxidil, yet they differ in manufacturer, application
method, price and additional ingredients.
Rogaine was the first product to contain minoxidil. Having the most experience,
manufacturers of Rogaine were the first to start producing their product in a foam
form too. Currently, all other three products, except Lipogaine, come both in liquid
and foam forms. Of course, liquid or foam is a matter of preference, although some
people report that foam causes less head skin irritation. Lipogaine has a big
advantage over competitors, as it includes nutrients (biotin, niacin, vitamins B6 and
B12) and herbal DHT blockers (azetinol, saw palmetto extract, linolenic acid, etc.) as
additional ingredients. Equate and Kirkland are generic
Compare And Contrast A Rose For Emily And Everyday Use
In both short stories, A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner and Everyday Use by
Alice Walker, two characters can be described as similar. These characters are very
similar in two very different ways. Each character seems to want, and yearn for
something that is not theirs. They both feel that they need something, so they
become very bitter and vengeful. In A Rose for Emily , Emily, the main character,
wanted a man in her life. After her father died many years ago, she felt the need for
a man in her life, and along came Homer Barron. Homer Barron was not your
typical man, it was stated that he liked men, which at the time was not an indicator
of him being homosexul but rather meant that he liked being out with the boys
and enjoyed his time away. Therefore Emily could not have him like she wanted. In
Everyday Use , Dee desperately wanted Mama s quilt. The quilt was going to be
inherited by Maggie instead of Dee. Dee, most of the time, neglected to give the
mother the attention that she deserved. She was not a big family person, you could
say. While Dee is very accomplished and very bright, she lacked on her interpersonal

In A Rose for Emily Emily had already had a tough life, with her father dying,
causing her to be very emotional. When She found a man, she latched on, and
never let him go. She killed him so he could be with her forever. The view of
Emily as a monument would have been destroyed. Emily might have become the
object of continued gossip. (West 74). In Everyday Use , Dee was also quite
vengeful, but with her words rather than her actions. Some of Dee s words were very
hurtful to the family. After the quilts were promised to Maggie, Dee was furious.
Although Maggie is intimidated enough to surrender the beloved quilts to Dee, the
mother feels the sudden surge of rebellion. (Ross 732). Both characters were very
mean and bitter, therefore they did not initially get what they

The Importance Of Medieval Life And Society In The...
The middle ages were a time of despair and darkness that was scattered across the
world. Events such as the Black Plague and the Crusades played a major part in
how European society began to form. Both the Kingdom of Heaven and The
Seventh Seal give viewers an insight into medieval life and society. Kingdom of
Heaven, starring Orlando Bloom, is about a young man who quickly rises to the
top of society and then defends Jerusalem against Muslim invaders. Balian, a
simple blacksmith, is greeted by his estranged father, a Lord in the countryside. In
an effort to erase the sins of his wife and himself, Balian agrees to voyage to the
Holy Land with his father, Lord Godfrey. The journey is bombarded with dangers
and in a skirmish, Godfrey is badly wounded. At a stop in the road, Godfrey dies
from his injuries right after making Balian his successor. The former bastard is now
a Lord whose father was highly respected in the middle east. Balian, now named the
Baron of Ibelin. At this new position, Balian attempts to create the best conditions
for his people, providing sources of water for families and children. He is well
respected by the people, but his good nature conflicts with the other Lords and rulers
in Jerusalem. Guy de Lusignan and his ally Raynald of Chatillon continue to defy the
current king and Balians ideals when they attack innocent Muslim caravans and order
assaults on innocent Muslims. The Muslims eventually pursue Jerusalem and siege

Introduction
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of South Africa faces many challenges
regarding its operational logistical capabilities. These challenges become even more
apparent during the national, provincial and municipal elections. Being able to
maintain a neutral stance in its behaviour and ensure that employees adhere to the
strict IEC guidelines, is an uphill battle in a country that is mired with corruption
scandals and other nefarious behaviour even within the top echelons of the
government. Who is to say whether party loyalty , financial incentives or political
pressure will have an adverse effect on the vote count ? Truly, the weight of heavy
expectations are placed upon the IEC to have an incorruptible and fair judgment
when carrying out its duties during the election.
There are more issues to contend with other than dishonesty during ballot tallies. The
logistical functions of the IEC can become an even more serious issue; how will
the ballots be collected, how are they tallied, where do we keep them and are the
systems the IEC have in place capable to accurately and reliably perform the
operations? The modern age has presented the IEC with many technical solutions to
solve old problems. Computer systems can be used to scan ID s and fingers to
increase speed and decrease fraud. RFID s

year and using the reading strategies that I have learned more and more making it
easier to read a higher level book and expanding my range of books into a higher

which tells me that I enjoy to read and when I read I get lost in the book.My
average amount of time to read a day is 30 with my brother. The required amount is
20 minutes, so I usually exeed the expectation every day.I think in the future, I will
be hopefully exceeding the expectation of that grade level to.I will do this by
incresing the amount of time I read each year till I ecxeed the expected amount of
the required time.I plan to start this at the end of this school year. I will start off
with a small amount then in maybe a couple of years I will be past the expectation

Essay on Breast Implants
Breast Implants
One of the first uses of silicone in a medical implant came in the form of lifesaving
tubes implanted into young children to funnel excess fluid from the brain into the
chest cavity, where the fluid could be safely metabolized and excreted. Since these
quot;shunts quot; were first used, in the late 1950s, silicone in various forms has come
to be an important part of many implants. quot;It is used in tracheotomy tubes, in
artificial lenses for the eye, in artificial heart valves and in facial implants for birth

Since this case received little attention women from all walks of life still continued to

In 1982 the quot;FDA proposed to classify silicone breast implants into a
Class III category that would require manufacturers to prove their safety in order to

It wasn t until 1990 that heavy media exposure began to unveil the possible links
between silicone breast implants and various types of toxic disorders. Connie Chung

For better or worse, we live in a society that puts great emphasis on appearance. This

The Social Significance And The Effect Of Malls
When hearing the word mall the most common examples that will come to people
s mind are York dale, Scarborough Town Center or Vaughan Mills. They picture
these huge supercenters mini well known stores such as Garage, Le Chateau, H
M, Best Buy even Wal Mart, etc. These places will be filled with large amounts of
people shopping. Food courts with a huge line up and a mini kiosks asking people
if you want to try a free sample. The way people view malls are different depending
on their point of view. I hope by the end of this report to show the social
significance and the effect the malls has on us. Describing the Object: Malls can
vary from small regional malls (they contain a cluster of retail stores) and to
megamalls offering a combination of shopping and carnival like diversions to the
festival malls specializing in recreational shopping to the intensely fortified ghetto
malls observed by Mike Davis and even too neighborhood malls (the purpose to is
to serve consumers within a radius of two miles) (source 2). According to BLANK
2 all malls would love to think that they are distinct and can offer something new to
consumers yet they all tend to share common features in terms of aesthetics,
architecture, and design. BLANK 2 states the reason for this is that a high
percentage of malls are planned and built by a few transnational architectural and
design firms (source 2). HE/SHE 2 refers to this as the appropriation of local symbols
within the space of the mall since
The Current English Law On Rape
Williams: Now let us consider the current English law on rape. You would argue that
in order for the defendant to commit an offense, he must have intentionally penetrated
the vagina, anus or mouth of the victim without consent to the penetration? English
Citizen: Yes, I would also argue that the defendant must not have reasonably believed
that the victim consented for the defendant to commit an offense. Williams:
Interesting. How would you judge whether a defendant held this reasonable belief?
English Citizen: I would consider the statute on rape in the Sexual Offences Act 2003
that states, Whether a belief is reasonable is to be determined having regard to all the
circumstances, including any steps A has taken to ascertain whether B consents.
Williams: Would you mind explicitly stating the evidential presumptions regarding
consent? English Citizen: Yes, I can. For an offense to be applied, it must prove that
the defendant did the relevant act, and that any of the circumstance specified in
subsection (2) existed, as well as that the defendant knew that those circumstances
existed. In subsection (2), evidential presumptions might arise if the defendant used
violence or fear, as well as if the victim was asleep, unlawfully detained, administered
a substance that caused them to be subject to the rape or if the victim possessed a
physical disability. Furthermore, sufficient evidence must be presented to raise an
issue as to whether the

Resistance, the new Rebel Alliance, now faces a new threat, the First Order. In the
hopes of defeating this threat, they look to Luke Skywalker, who s whereabouts are
unknown. Rey, the capable and independent protagonist, rescues a BB 8 unit and
discovers it holds the missing piece of the map that leads to Luke. Together, along
with Finn, Han Solo, and Chewbacca, they must find a way to deliver the piece of
the map to The Resistance and stop the First Order s plans of annihilation.
When someone thinks about the qualities of a hero, the few that always come to
mind are strength, an acting leader, and a protector of the innocent; all of which are
qualities thought of as being predominantly male. These qualities are further
exemplified in Luke Skywalker, the young Jedi Knight of episodes IV through VI,
all of which were made about forty years ago. A young farmer who was strong with
the force, Luke went on to become one of the strongest Jedi ... Show more content on

In doing so, it displays the way our society has progressed to view women as
physically capable as men. The importance of this idea cannot be overstated. The
Force Awakens was a highly anticipated movie with a fan base that stretched around
the world. Adults and children all know of Star Wars, and to depict the hero of the
newest episode as a female sends strong messages to everyone. Little girls look up
to Rey and feel inspired by her actions. Little boys who see a female as the hero
will view her as their equal and respect her. The countries who still view women as
lesser beings will see Rey s strength and independence. While it may not urge them to
act, it should certainly give them something to consider about the way they view their

Pantofola D Oro Essay
History
Pantofola d Oro is a company based in Italy that manufactures soccer boots, leisure
footwear, as well as clothing. The company began in a small family workshop in
Ascoli Piceno industrial district, Italy in the year 1886. At the time, it was just a
cobbler s shop, which was founded by Emidio Lazzarini when he worked as a
shoemaker; as he put into practice the teachings given to him by not only his father
but also his grandfather. However, the company had not begun producing
handcrafted elite soccer boots until the 1950s when Emidio took over the business,
which was run by his father. After the day s work was done, Emilio would devote

The Americans seem to be more familiar with brands like Nike, Reebok, Adidas,
among others. This will make it a bit difficult to penetrate the market as much as
those other big footwear producing companies have.
Furthermore, Pantofola d Oro s products cannot be found in U.S stores despite
their presence all over Europe. For the few who already recognize the brand and
want to purchase it, they can only get it from the pro direct soccer website.
However, very few people in the U.S. know about this and as a result, Pantofola d
Oro does not take up any significant size of the U.S. soccer footwear market share.
Due to the high quality and incorporation of NFC technology in Pantofola d Oro s
products, they cost more than those of competitors. They are also set to be placed in
the big departmental stores only, such as Nordstrom and Barneys. This may reduce
their potential to be recognized and thus bought by many people.
International Operations
The company has already developed presence in Italy and Europe. It is also planning
to scale up to Germany, the United States and Northern Europe with the assistance of

Loss Of Stars Essay
On Earth, scientists estimate that there are over
7,500,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (seven quintillion, five hundred quadrillion)
grains of sand. It is believed that for each grain of sand on Earth, there are over
10,000 stars in outer space. A star is a luminous ball of plasma held together by its
own gravity. However, every starhas the same general chemical composition.
Despite the seemingly endless amount of stars in the sky, we can not yet see them
all, which plays a huge factor in the amount of stars we are able to observe. Each
day, light from distant stars is reaching Earth from stars that are millions of light
years away from the Earth. The constant arrival of new stars into the observable

Mainstreaming Of National Australia Bank
Mainstreaming of National Australia Bank: The most widely used the perspective of
cultural change and can reflect very tangible and visible across the organization
(Schultz, 1994). There must be a consensus across the organization and that can be
reflected through different media organizations such as performance targets and
metrics, formal and informal rules, business strategies and management practices
governing the stories.
Differentiation Perspective: Culture is considered as an amalgam of different cultures
combined or picked up that bind within the limits of the organization as a whole
(Martin, 2002). Since it is more focused on the contradictions at the core of the
culture that gives the organization the opportunity to correct these inconsistencies
best culture background. If inconsistencies are identified various cultural initiators
can be identified within the organization, both internally and externally. Ambiguity
Perspective: This perspective does not follow the opinion of integration and
differentiation of cultural perspective, it suggests that the relationship between
cultural manifestations do not have adequate clarity but lack clarity (Martin, 2002).
Individuals in an organization may have views and shared values with each other,
but in certain views or values may be different. It is seen as the most realistic
perspective on culture, allowing employees to bring forth the issues with which they
do not agree with their line managers (Frost et al., 1991). Once

He says of Jewish proselyte baptism, It appears that the import of this practice was
both purifactory Gentiles were generally considered to be ritually unclean and in
need of purification and initiatory. Also, proselyte baptism conveyed the notion of
a conversion to a new kind of life, which involved the proselyte s acceptance of the
yoke of the Torah. Hence, the initiation represented a commitment, as well as
bestowing certain benefits. (12) This lines up with the thesis of the book and
supports a need for the historical recovery and significance of the believer s
baptism as this serves as a foreshadow of what would be implied through baptism
after confession of salvation in the believer. Chapter one also covers the gospels of
the cannon and shows that the majority of the referenced materials regarding
baptism were about the role and baptism of John the Baptist. It further shows how
John s baptism was a way of preparing the people to accept and receive Jesus Christ
through repentance. This chapter also covered the baptism works of the disciples
and the coming baptism promised by Christ regarding the baptism through fire found
in the book of Acts. No evidence was provided in any of these instances that would
support or validate infant baptism, which agrees with and confirms the author s
thesis. Instead, this chapter shows how baptism worked in the role of
Rape And Sexual Assault Rates
Not too surprisingly, Richardson and Shields found that sexual assault rates are 3.1 to
4.4 times higher at the most permissive colleges and universities than their more
restrictive counterparts . The strict enforcing of alcohol bans can reduce sexual
assault incidents. Socially regulated environments such as those found in religious
schools do in fact keep the incidents of rapeand sexual assault down. However
Richardson and Shields points out that this is not because these schools effectively
condemned rape, but rather the restricted environment keeps students in check.
However, effectively enforcing alcohol bans as well as bans on overnight guest stays
between males and females reduce rape and sexual assault rates only modestly . The
two researchers stressed that educating students on the links between alcohol and
sexual abuse. Coupling well enforced alcohol and overnight guest bans with effective
education, security and counselling can dramatically bring down the numbers and
incidence of rape and sexual assaults on campus.
With strict enforcement of the rules, there should also be compassionate counseling
for victims. The DOJ report set up to 80 percent of campus rapes goes unreported.
In addition, the DOJ states that victims of rape on college campuses may not report
the incident because many of them who consumed alcohol would be in violation of
alcohol bans and policies. The use of alcohol also causes victims to be unsure
whether an actual rape happened or was
Power As A General Political Science
Power in politics is a central concept, yet a contested one for a multitude of reasons.
Chief among them is its contested nature and disagreement among political scientists
over the concept itself as well as its operationalization. I refrain from further
exploring the literature on power as a general political scienceconcept and focus on its
aspects related to negotiation. From an international relationsperspective, realists for
example, emphasize on the materialistic aspect of power; military, economy and other
measurable and quantifiable sources of power (Donnelly 24). Hans Morgenthau, a
classical realist, defines power as men s control over the minds and actions of
other men , he further states that a political power is the mutual relations of control
among the holders of public authority and between the latter and the people at large
(32). This definition, to a degree, resonates with power in negotiation since it
focuses on one s ability to influence the perception and action of others. This notion
of power is relevant to negotiation in that either sides of a negotiation attempt to
influence the decision making of the other side(s). Keohane Nye s definition of
power is closer to Morgenthau. He defines power as the ability of an actor to get
others to do something they otherwise would not do (10). Roger Fisher defines
power in terms of negotiation as the ability to persuade someone to do something
(182). These definitions do not emphasis on the outcome aspect of

Tragedy and the Common Man Questions
1. Why is the common man as apt a subject for tragedy in its highest sense as kings
were ?
Tragedy once belonged to the kings and the high bred class, because tragedy centers
on the awareness of disparity between self image and the perception the world has of
you. In archaic times, only kings could retain this sense of nobility. But now nobility
belongs to every man. Revolutions provide proof enough, that the common man
maintains a sense of indignation in the face of having their dignity stolen, and so the
common man can experience tragedy as much as the kings can.

... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
5. What shakes us, the viewers as we watch or read a tragedy?
Tragedy shakes the audience by tapping into their own private fears. An undeniable
connection drawn by empathy links every audience member to the plight of the
character, because the itch of indignation is universal among all humanity. As long
as someone has a sense of self, they have a sense of dignity. The character in a
tragedy has been wronged by some flaw , and there is a fear of never correcting that
wrong. Every audience member experiences that fear, and so is shaken by the tragedy.
Tragedy shakes the audience
6. Given Miller s earlier definition of tragedy, what is illuminated by the tragic figure
s destruction? What comments does Miller make about the condition of life and the
wrong ? How does he mean each of these terms?
The tragic figure is destroyed by the suppression of his own creative instinct. The
wrong is lack of freedom inflicted on a character, and there can be no dignity
without freedom to express your own individual self. Destruction enlightens the
reader to what the suppression is, what robs the character of their freedom. In a
certain sense, tragedy is heroism for the sacrifice it makes for personal knowledge.
7. How does the tragic figure, especially if he is a common man, gain size ?

The Importance Of The Nile On The North Africa
The Nile is the longest river in the world. It flows from three branches: The Blue
Nile, the White Nile and the Atbara. The Nile was the lifeline of Egypt. It shaped the
nation s economy, determined its political structure and culture. While the
surrounding deserts and oceans provided security to Egypt, the Nileprovided Egypt
with prosperity. The aim of this paper would be dedicated to showing the
Importance of the Nile in the rise of successful states in North Africa. A first part
will be dedicated to showing the impact of the Nile on the agricultural domain. A
second part will discuss the impact of the Nile when it comes to economic field. A
third and last part will be dedicated to showing how this factors and obviously the
Nile have contributed into the rise of successful states in North Africa.
On a historical note, The Nile River flooded on a regular basis each year,
depositing rich sediments on the plains. The annual inundation of the Nile has made
the narrow strip of land down the lower Nile very fertile. Therefore, crops were
planted in the fertile soil, which led Egypt to be an agricultural nation producing a
variety of fruits, vegetables and many other agricultural goods.
The basic needs for life are water and food. The Nile could provide security and
sufficiency of food and water for the population and civilizations around the Nile.
Indeed, the Nile represented an important source of food. Major crops such as wheat,
barley, flax, papyrus, fruit and vegetables

The Effect of Temperature on the Permeability of Beetroot Membrane
Analysis
The graph shows the colorimeter readings increase as the temperature increases, they
increase by the most at higher temperatures. This is shown by a smooth curve.
This means that the beetroot samples release more dye at higher temperatures. This is
because higher temperatures cause the membrane structure to break down.
The membrane structure:
Membranes have two layers of molecules called phospolipids to make up their
structure. Phospholipis consist of a glycerol molecule plus two molecules of fatty
and a phosphate group, this looks like a head with two legs, their head is attracted to

Intrinsic proteins occur across the whole width if the protein allowing the intake of
substances into the cell. Extrinsic proteins occur only in the outer or inner
phospholipid bi layer, but not through both. These proteins are usually receptors.
Intrinsic channel proteins allow water soluble molecules to pass through it by
forming a tiny gap in itself, this is large enough for the substances.
Intrinsic carrier proteins carry water soluble molecules through the membrane, this
method is called Г‚ Active TransportГ‚
Extrinsic proteins recognise and bind on specific molecules, eg. hormones.
Membranes can also be embedded in the inner membrane
The reason why the membrane structure breaks down at higher temperatures is
because the proteins are not very stable and break down with heat, called denaturing.
An enzyme denatures because the heat changes the shape of the active site o the
substrate can not fit into it. Enzymes are always denaturing, but at higher
temperatures this occurs more rapidly. But at higher temperatures there are more
collisions between the substrate and the active site so this would increase the
reactivity, so a good balance must be found. The optimum temperatureis about

Effects Of The Renaissance Garden Design
Palazzo Piccolomini, Pienza, Tuscany
Abstract
14th century marks one of the biggest shifts in European history, a shift in thought,
literature, arts, culture and society, leading to a change in the way of life. The
Renaissance played a major role in modelling people s thoughts and beliefs in
Europe and the effects of it were far reaching. This period changed how people
enjoyed and perceived beauty. People were being drawn back to the classical
school of thinking. They kept trying to improve and improvise on the legacy left
behind by the Greeks and Romans. There was a need to get away from the shambles
of God and the Church and move towards an eclectic society where everyone was
thinking and questioning things.
This change in people s lifestyles led them to perceive and design buildings and
their adjoining gardens differently. Garden design changed drastically from the
medieval periods; from being introverted and fortified they later became more open
with a strong sense of geometry, on a central axis. [1] The renaissancegardens were
inspired by classical ideas of order and beauty. The gardens were structured and

Geometry was seen as a divine cosmic order. The Renaissance man spent a lot of
time trying to find geometric patterns in nature which later got transferred to
architecture and landscape. The garden is placed on a higher ground hence it opens
out on to the valley in such a way that it facilitates an endless view of the natural
setting of the area. The axis is selected so that the view is directed towards the
natural slope and the visitor is drawn towards the endless horizon littered with
sloping mountains and valleys. This linear perspective also acted as a physical and
visual link between the garden and the landscape, hence dissolving any boundaries

American Security Research Paper
American security has always been changing, but after the September 11, 2001
attacks, American security has never been the same. A brief explanation of what
happened is that 19 terrorists hijacked 4 planes, 2 of them hit the south and north
world trade centers and both towers collapsed killing about 2000 Americans, 1 of
the planes crashed in the pentagon killing 125 people, and in the last plane the
passengers tried to overthrow the hijackers, but the plane crashed and 40 people were

Message Of The Princess Bride
What s the film s message
I thought the overall message that The Princess Bride portrayed was that true love
always finds a way.I say this because know matter what obstacle occurred, Westly
and Buttercup eventually found each other again. Some evidence that proves this is
when Buttercup told the king that Westly would come for her.Another message that
this movie portrayed was to never judge a book by its cover. This message is very
implied because all the events that take place are very sporadic and what you think
might happen does not occur, it might even be the complete opposite such as what
happens after Wesley s death in the beginning.
Plot
The first main event was when Westly and Buttercup fall in love on the farm and

terrible things associated with fraternities. Many fraternities have a reputation for
turning college students into drunks, treating women vulgarly, enacting violent
hazing against other fraternity members and disrupting the true reason why students

Men taking advantage of women is considered a social norm. Also, When
fraternity members admitted to doing things that by law are considered rape they
did not believe that they were rapist. They insist that if a girl is intoxicated then
they are still able to consent to sex. Granted not all Greeks are this way. Many
fraternity members treat women respectfully and contribute greatly to bettering the
college experience. The problem is too many offenders do exist and they have
ruined the once credible reputation of fraternities everywhere. Furthermore,
fraternities are infamous for their requirement to pledge in order to join the
brotherhood. Although the specific acts inflicted on pledges is known only by
members of fraternity, it is commonly known that hazing is part of the initiation.
The pledges have to complete a series of humiliating and sometime dangerous
rituals in order to join. They could be forced to consume excessive amount of
alcohols and drugs, or be physically beaten or be publicly humiliated. Little known
fact, white fraternities generally use alcohol for hazing while black fraternities result
to physical violence. In a survey conducted by Dr. Susan Lipkins 31% of Fraternity

humiliation. Also, many of the Greek Leaders agree that
Erika Riemann’s Oral Testimony on Life in East
Germany...
Erika Riemann s oral testimony on life in East Germany during the Cold War
Erika Riemann was a teenager living in East Germany at the end of World War II.
Her oral testimony describes her experiences as a political prisoner during the cold
war. She was arrested in 1945 for drawing a bow on a portrait of Stalin that hung in
her school classroom. At the time of her arrest she was only 14 years old.
After World War II Germanywas left devastated and in ruins. There had been
massive destruction of the country s infrastructure (Bessel 2011), it lacked political
structure and economic activity had plummeted. There was a scarcity of food, fuel
and housing and Germany was in no condition to clothe or feed its population (O

The arrests were indiscriminate, to the point where an internal review by the soviet
authorities showed that 35,000 people had been wrongfully arrested (Kitchen 2012).
Most of these people were released in 1948; however, there were thousands who
were handed over to German authorities in 1949 to complete their sentences.
Approximately 150,000 Germans were interned between 1945 and 1950, and the
death rates in these camps have been estimated to be around 35 40 percent (Bruce
2003, p.6).
Riemann served 8 years and 16 days of her 10 year sentence as a political prisoner.
Following her arrest, she spent time in a castle dungeon at Ludwiglust for
questioning. She was forced to confess to crimes she did not commit, including
being part of the Nazi resistance movement. She was then taken to Bautzen a prison
near Dresden, living conditions were awful, and inmates were locked in cages, the
quarters were full of bugs and there were no toilets. She then moved to another prison
fortress, Torgau where many women were raped. From there she was moved to the
former Nazi concentration camp at Sachenhaun just outside of Berlin, which was run
by the German police. She says that at first she had been very happy to be
committed to the Germans, as she and other inmates believed that their cases would
be reviewed, and they would be released, however, she says that what we had to
endure under the Germans was worse than everything we had

How To The Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum
I went to the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum for my art experience
project. I was impressed with the amount of statues I was able to see in one place.
A majority of them seem to have been created and donated by the Fredericks family
themselves. As I said before the amount of statues in this little space is impressive,
however my first impression is the feelingof claustrophobia.
The statues are packed in fairly tight and the space overall doesn t seem to be well
utilized. The room it was in did however provide an ample amount of natural light
from the large windowed wall to the north. This coupled with the recessed lighting
did a good job of lighting the statues facing the northern wall. Unfortunately
though, some of the statues are facing the southern wall and lose a little detail to
not being as well lit from only the recessed lighting. The contrast between well lit
and dimly lit does lend to contrast in light and shadow for the statues facing the east
and west walls. The contours of these statues are much more defined because of the
line of contrast so they seem to draw me in the most. I also get this cold feeling,
even though the floors are more of a warm/neutral color. I believe this is due to the
lack of a large amount of the statues not being colored at all. The few that are
colored are just antiqued bronze so they are mostly that powder blue/green color.
The lack of color though, I feel, is intended to make a point.
It seems as though the artist meant for

The Similarities Between The Movie Tsotsi And Boston s
Decency is a word which is used often and means different things to different
people. Although people have different opinions about what decency really is, they
are all alike. In the movie Tsotsi, Boston s, Fela s, Tsotsi s, and the dictionary s
definitions of decency are all different but at the same time, are connected to one
another. Some of the definitions are more complex than the others, but all of them
are related to each other, directly or indirectly. In the movie, Tsotsi, Boston states that
he thinks decency means Respect man. For yourself. Boston believes that a decent
person should have reverence for themselves, even though he doesn t. Boston also
thinks that decency is having respect for others. When the big man was killed on the
train during a robbery by his own... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Tsotsi does not express his opinion of decency verbally or in written form
like the other sources, it can be seen in his actions and reactions. Tsotsi makes a
decent living by having a home, a gang, and a bit of money, therefore living up to
Fela s opinion of decency and agreeing with Fela s viewpoint. Tsotsi shows respect
for himself by not drinking, smoking, and gambling, and by taking care of himself,
and shows respect for others by trying to pay off Miriam, trying to get money to
help Boston, running away when his father beats the dog, returning the baby, and
treating Morris as an equal. These actions are also considered honorable behavior.
Since Tsotsi has respect for himself and for others in his actions, his opinion of
decency is like Boston s. His definition of decency is also like Fela s as he takes
care of himself and makes a decent living. The dictionary s definition of decency
only partly agrees with Tsotsi, as Tsotsi is not correct, but has respect for himself and
for others, and is modest. Tsotsi s definition is a mixture of all the definitions, and is

Embryology Research Paper
Embryology, according to yourdictionary.com, is the branch of biology and medicine
that studies embryos and how they develop. By studying embryology medical
professionals will learn the causes of birth defects. They will have a better
understanding on how the human body reproduces and the process it goes through to
produce other individuals. Embryologyhas not been fully discovered and analyzed.
There could be much more scientists could find. They might just be scratching the
surface on a much deeper concept. Embryology has 3 periods. Tese periods are
called the germinal period, the embryonic period, and the fetal period. These periods
last 9 months in all for humans. These periods are what the embryogoes through to
grow into a strong and healthy child. Birth defects can occur in any of these three
periods. Although embryology has a vast world of information that has yet to been
discovered, these three periods help explain the majority.
The first period is the germinal period. According to study.com, the germinal period
is when the mother s egg is fertilized by the father s sperm. As the sperm and the

the fetal period. Embryo development is very important for the continuation of the

Title: Mitosis and Meiosis
Exercise 1: Mitosis in Animal and Plant Cells
Questions:
A.) What is the purpose of mitosis?
The purpose of mitosis is to create or produce more cells for a living organism.
Mitosis occurs when genetic substance in the nucleus divides or separates in order
to create more cells. Cytokinesis normally occurs next and the single cell develops
into two separate cells. This same process continues to occur over and over creating
more cells for an organism replacing old or dead cells.
B.) What other term is commonly used in place of mitosis ?

Exercise 2: Meiosis in Animals
Questions:
A. Which organ, the ovary or the testes, contained the greater number of gametes?
The organ that contained the greater number of gamets is the testes.
B. What may be a reason for this?
The eggs in the ovary are much larger than the sperm in the testes and it takes
numerous sperm trying to get to the egg before one actually does fertilize the egg
and most of the sperm die trying.
Observations:
Ovary:

Exercise 3: Simulating Meiosis
Questions:
A. What does mitosis accomplish?
The process of mitosis accomplishes replacing old or dying cells in an organism by
replicating the DNA and cell division.
B. When and where does mitosis occur?
Mitosis occurs in eukaryotic cells during the interphase of cell division.
C. What does meiosis accomplish? Meiosis has two consecutive cell divisions that
produce a total of four genetically different daughter cells.
D. When and where does meiosis occur?
Meiosis occurs in the ovaries and testes or reproduction organs during interphase.
E. How do these two processes differ?
Mitosis creates identical cells to replace old or dying cell tissue while Meiosis occurs
in the sexual reproduction organs and creates genetically different cells.
F. How do Prophase in Mitosis and Prophase I in Meiosis differ?
In mitosis chromosomes create two sister
The Calling Of St. Matthew
The calling of St. Matthew by Bernardo Strozzi is a master piece on display in the
Worcester Art Museum. This art work is inspired by a work done by Michelangelo
Mersi Da Caravaggio completed in 1599 1600 on a commission by the Contrarelli
chapel, San Luigi Dei Francesi in Rome. In this writing I will discuss the subject

artist uses these different elements to tell the story in painting.
The painting is meant to depict the story from the bible, found in the gospel of
Matthew (Matthew 9:9) Jesus Saw a man named Matthew at his seat in the custom,
said to him, Follow me , and Matthew rose and Followed him. In the painting strozzi

Evolution of organisms shows the development of structure...
Grouping of organisms according to the similar anatomy helps to understand their
evolution and how those organisms have being developed over millions of years.
Similarly, structures of organisms have developed over years to function better to
survive on the earth. Even though some organisms are unicellular, while some are
multicelliular, both types of organisms have got particular structure to function that
helps to fulfill their needs. Thus, structure and function of the organisms, including
humans, portray the incredible creations of the nature (Campbell et al. 2008).

Even though every class has some common attributes such as segmented vertebrae,
specialization of the structure occurs in each class according to their function and the
surviving environment. As such, organisms in class reptilian have got distinctive
features that of aves, chondrichthyes, mamalia, and so on (Campbell et al. 2008).
The class reptilia is mostly terrestrial organisms. Class reptilian is included snakes,
lizards known as Gecko, crocodiles, and so on. The amniotic egg is the most
significant feature of reptilian. The amniotic egg is an essential stage of the life cycle
of reptilian that helps them to complete their life cycle without water. The body
structure of reptilians is specialized to survive in terrestrial environment.
Consequently, many reptilians have got four limbs for locomotion. Locomotion is
essential for reptilians to live in terrestrial environments (Campbell et al. 2008).
Furthermore, the organisms that are categorized into the class reptilian, have

Alan Greenspan
Alan Greenspan Alan Greenspan, the chairman of the Federal Reserve, has always
fascinated the financial community. Whatever he says can make or break the
markets. He is a highly educated economist with many years of experience. People
seek for his advice and obey his judgments. His proclamations are repeated and
expounded upon. Greenspan is loved, feared, and never ever questioned. As a
result of being a strong chairman of the Fed, he has made a difference the U.S.
economy through his way of dealing with inflation. Also, the presidency no longer
counterbalances or even criticizes the Fed. First of all, we will consider his
background. Alan Greenspan was born on March 6, 1926, in New York City. He

economy. Economist Allen Sinai said, The Greenspan Fed is the all time
champion in American history (Church par. 1). In 1996 and 1997 he didn t do
much of anything to the interest rates. From February 1996 to December 1997,
the Fed made only one change in interest rates: a quarter point increase in March of
1997. He resisted pressure from inside and outside the Fed to slow down the
economy. Instead of being overly concerned about inflation, he seemed to have
accepted the idea that deep changes in the economy have made sustained growth
possible without pushing prices up. (Church par. 2) Because of Alan Greenspan,
the Fed has learned to be more patient. It allows the economy to grow faster than
expected without putting on the brakes by raising interest rates. However,
Greenspan always stays on guard. He is a renowned numbers cruncher who keeps
tabs on the most obscure corners of the economy. Robin Leight Pemberton said that
he was likely to back up his predictions by citing such obscure data as vacuum
cleaner sales in Iowa (Church Par 3). Greenspan is reaping the praise of the financial
community. There is a widely held sense that he has masterminded the nation s
prosperity. As many people are becoming stockholders, they regard him as a living
Richard Attenborough Research Paper
The religious beliefs if film icon and Gandhi director Sir Richard Attenborough
Legendary British film actor Sir Richard Attenborough passed away on August 24
at the age of 90. The performer, producer, and director starred in dozens of films,
and is most well known for his roles in Jurassic Park, The Great Escape, Flight of
the Phoenix, Miracle on 34th Street, and A Bridge too Far. Attenborough also
produced and directed many movies himself, his most acclaimed work being the
1982 biopic Gandhi for which he personally won two Academy Awards.
The critically acclaimed Gandhi was Attenborough s passion project. The film
featured British actor Ben Kingsley now famous, but little known at the time in the
titular role, and Attenborough both produced and directed the biography. Although
he won two Academy Awards, the film itself won eight. Criticized by historians for
contributing to myth making, the film was nonetheless a critical and financial
success, earning 20 times its $22 million budget. The project finally got off of the
ground after 20 years of Attenborough attempting to secure funding. By selling off
his possessions and spending so much money I couldn t pay the gas bill, he was

because I would be arrogantly stupid not to, but having to adhere to custom and
conviction in terms of practice I find destructive rather than constructive. It seems to
me that organised, formal religions have done a fair amount of damage in terms of

Love and Guilt in Sophie s Choice and in Sound and Fury
Essay
William Styron, who wrote Sophie s Choice, sought out other novels to appreciate
an author s thematic and stylistic choices. One of the novels which Styron admired
was Sound and Fury, by William Faulkner. Styron embraced some of Faulkner s
approach to writing and this can be seen by juxtaposing both Sophie s Choice and
Sound and Fury. Loveand guilt are major topics which both novels share. These
emotions are felt by humans everyday, but having too much of both of these
elements can prove to be negative for the wellbeing of mankind. Sophie, the main
character in Sophie s Choice, must embrace the loss of her family her parents,
husband, and children due to the Nazi party in Germany. In the final chapters of the
novel, one of Sophie s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stingo was unable to help Sophie, though, so he expresses guilt because of the
inability to prevent Sophie from ending her life. In Faulkner s novel, guilt is
represented in a similar way. Quentin Compson grew up admiring his older sister
Caddy. One way he showed his fondness for Caddy is by telling their father that he
had committed incest with her and had impregnated her. He did this to conceal the
truth about Caddy; that she became pregnant from her secret lover. Although his
efforts were great, Quentin could not convince their family about him fathering his
sister s child. Caddy was sent off, leaving her newly born daughter at the Compson
house. Quentin lived with the guilt of what happened with Caddy through his
adulthood. His life abruptly ended when he decided to commit suicide, just as
Sophie had done. Included in the final thought process of Quentin Compson, he
mentions, you cannot bear to think that someday it will no longer hurt you like this
now were getting at it you seem to regard it merely as an experience that will
whiten tour hair overnight (Faulkner, 107). This proves how Quentin loved and was
deeply upset by what had happened to his sister, and he could not bear to live with
those emotions anymore so he made the decision to end his life. In both novels, guilt
has gotten to the best of both Sophie and Quentin. This exposes the

Firstly, understanding the intricacies of the APA style format itself requires thorough research and familiarity with its guidelines. • 2. Sphere Of Influence Analysis The Sphere of Influence is located in Rossland, BC, a strong biking community in the West Kootenay. The sphere was made in 2014 and was first installed in April 2015 by the community local Arts and Culture Council. It is created using old collected bike wheels, spokes, and gears. The wheels are pieced together to form a complete bubble, towering as high as the buildings surrounding it. Each piece of the sculpture is moulded together and has rusted over time. None of the wheels are bent, but instead fit together, matching the rims to make a sphere. It stands connected to a rusted metal semi sphere cage that is bolted to a cement platform. There are all different sorts of bike wheels that make up this sculpture, some are colourful and from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sculpture has a rustic quality, and draws one s eye to it because of its large scale. The art brings a purpose and beautifies a long time empty property between two local businesses. It resides next to a sidewalk outside of the local bike shop, brewery, and Laundromat. Next to the Sphere of Influence is a sign picketed that states Art is for admiring, mountains are for climbing, which mean please do not climb on the sculpture. This is significant because when I stood admiring the statue a little boy ran up and started hanging off the wheels and poking his head into the centre of the sphere. Because the artist used bike wheels as the main medium the Sphere of Influence may influence one to enjoy biking. Arco Bears by John Mckinnon is a sculpture of two black identical bears. One bear is placed aloft the other balancing on its pals paws while the bear on the bottom balances on its back with his head off reaching. The bears are located in Rossland, BC in the West Kootenays. They make an echoing sound when knocked on meaning that they are hollow. John Mckinnon uses welded steel and bronze to create Arco Bears . They both have round bellies, like they ve eaten all of the neighbors
  • 3. Parental Involvement And Academic Achievement Parental Involvement and Academic Achievement: When does a child become affected by the lack of parental involvement in their lives? Some people may say when the child is older, and can fully understand what s happening. Some even say that children know and feel the effect of the lack of parental involvement when they are as young as Kindergarteners. There are even some people who say that children will never feel the effects of the lack of parental involvement. I disagree with each statement listed above. A child becomes affected by parental involvement as soon as the child is conceived. Think about it, it is the mother s decision on whether or not to take the right precautions and steps to ensure a healthy pregnancy. If the mother is not looking out for the best interest of their unborn child, the child can have long term effects. Even after birth a child is affected by the decision of their parents. Whether or not a child is loved or neglected plays a major role in proper development. A child will begin to either feel comfortable or become withdrawn when they are put in circumstances as such. Parental involvement is one of the most important things in a child s development. It will help the child in all areas of development. What does parental involvement do? According to the article Defining Parental Involvement: Perception of School Administrators, parental involvement boosts a child s perceived level of competence and autonomy, offers a sense of security and
  • 4. The Pax Roman An Unprecedented Time Of History For Rome the Pax Romana was an unprecedented time in history. For once there was relative peace in the empire, for the rich at least. While there was peace from enemy invaders there was internal conflict where the poor were being brutalized by the government and the rich, making Rome a hotbed for political activity. Jesus Christ did not set out to create a new religion, or to even challenge Roman authority but that is what he did and for that he was executed. Jesus execution inadvertently created the branch of religion we know as Christianitywhich would be Rome s greatest internal threat. At the time of Jesus birth Rome was going through a time of great peace called the Pax Romana , or Roman Peace. This Pax Romana,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This could explain why a man, Jesus, was feared when he started to challenge the status quot. Jesus did not set out to create a new religion, he set out to fix what he saw wrong with Judaism at the time. Jesus moved his teachings from Herod s land, who was a puppet of Rome, to Pontius Pilate s lands, who was a direct Roman ruler, around the time of the Jewish holiday Passover. Religion and politics often intertwined under Rome which made Passover a very politically and religiously charged event; Jesus of Nazareth arrives to this event preaching of a coming Kingdom of God which was the equivalent of shouting fire in a crowded room (Video Part I). At this point, to most people, Jesus sounds like an Essen, one who preached of a coming apocalypse, and the crowd is understandably getting antsy. In addition to the preaching Jesus did, he also stormed into the Temple and overturned vendor s tables, driving them out from the house of worship. Seeing that religion and politics were so closely intertwined, Pontius Pilate saw this as an attack aimed towards the Roman Empire, which was treason. In the novel, The Underdog by Markus Zusak, Cameron Wolfe explores adolescence through the events and people in his life during one winter. The question, Should a boy be considered a man because of his age? is a difficult one; one that does not have a straightforward answer and is not clearly answered in the novel. White Australian society deems that a boy is a man at the age of eighteen. In other cultures, manhood is recognised after a boy completes a ritual. Manhood is a lot of things; the least of which has to do with age. When a person is respectful, responsible and aware of the needs of others, we can say that a boy can be considered a man. T: Respect is a value that is learned and earned and is important in order to become a good man. E: We see in our media too many times, people who have lost respect and shown disrespect. These people are often portrayed as role models or people who are in significant positions. These characters are very similar in two very different ways. Each character seems to want, and yearn for something that is not theirs. Individuals in an organization may have views and shared values with each other, but in certain views or values may be different. It is seen as the most realistic perspective on culture, allowing employees to bring forth the issues with which they do not agree with their line managers (Frost et al., 1991). Once

Also, proselyte baptism conveyed the notion of a conversion to a new kind of life, which involved the proselyte s acceptance of the yoke of the Torah. Hence, the initiation represented a commitment, as well as bestowing certain benefits. (12) This lines up with the thesis of the book and supports a need for the historical recovery and significance of the believer s baptism as this serves as a foreshadow of what would be implied through baptism after confession of salvation in the believer. Chapter one also covers the gospels of the cannon and shows that the majority of the referenced materials regarding baptism were about the role and baptism of John the Baptist. It further shows how John s baptism was a way of preparing the people to accept and receive Jesus Christ through repentance. This chapter also covered the baptism works of the disciples and the coming baptism promised by Christ regarding the baptism through fire found in the book of Acts. No evidence was provided in any of these instances that would support or validate infant baptism, which agrees with and confirms the author s thesis. Rape And Sexual Assault Rates Not too surprisingly, Richardson and Shields found that sexual assault rates are 3.1 to 4.4 times higher at the most permissive colleges and universities than their more restrictive counterparts . The strict enforcing of alcohol bans can reduce sexual assault incidents. Socially regulated environments such as those found in religious schools do in fact keep the incidents of rapeand sexual assault down. However Richardson and Shields points out that this is not because these schools effectively condemned rape, but rather the restricted environment keeps students in check. However, effectively enforcing alcohol bans as well as bans on overnight guest stays between males and females reduce rape and sexual assault rates only modestly . The two researchers stressed that educating students on the links between alcohol and sexual abuse. Coupling well enforced alcohol and overnight guest bans with effective education, security and counselling can dramatically bring down the numbers and incidence of rape and sexual assaults on campus. With strict enforcement of the rules, there should also be compassionate counseling for victims. The DOJ report set up to 80 percent of campus rapes goes unreported. In addition, the DOJ states that victims of rape on college campuses may not report the incident because many of them who consumed alcohol would be in violation of alcohol bans and policies. The use of alcohol also causes victims to be unsure whether an actual rape happened or was

Chief among them is its contested nature and disagreement among political scientists over the concept itself as well as its operationalization. I refrain from further exploring the literature on power as a general political scienceconcept and focus on its aspects related to negotiation. From an international relationsperspective, realists for example, emphasize on the materialistic aspect of power; military, economy and other measurable and quantifiable sources of power (Donnelly 24). Hans Morgenthau, a classical realist, defines power as men s control over the minds and actions of other men , he further states that a political power is the mutual relations of control among the holders of public authority and between the latter and the people at large (32). This definition, to a degree, resonates with power in negotiation since it focuses on one s ability to influence the perception and action of others. This notion of power is relevant to negotiation in that either sides of a negotiation attempt to influence the decision making of the other side(s). Keohane Nye s definition of power is closer to Morgenthau. He defines power as the ability of an actor to get others to do something they otherwise would not do (10). Roger Fisher defines power in terms of negotiation as the ability to persuade someone to do something (182). These definitions do not emphasis on the outcome aspect of

Why is the common man as apt a subject for tragedy in its highest sense as kings were ? Tragedy once belonged to the kings and the high bred class, because tragedy centers on the awareness of disparity between self image and the perception the world has of you. In archaic times, only kings could retain this sense of nobility. But now nobility belongs to every man. Revolutions provide proof enough, that the common man maintains a sense of indignation in the face of having their dignity stolen, and so the common man can experience tragedy as much as the kings can. 2. Effects Of The Renaissance Garden Design Palazzo Piccolomini, Pienza, Tuscany Abstract 14th century marks one of the biggest shifts in European history, a shift in thought, literature, arts, culture and society, leading to a change in the way of life. The Renaissance played a major role in modelling people s thoughts and beliefs in Europe and the effects of it were far reaching. This period changed how people enjoyed and perceived beauty. People were being drawn back to the classical school of thinking. They kept trying to improve and improvise on the legacy left behind by the Greeks and Romans. There was a need to get away from the shambles of God and the Church and move towards an eclectic society where everyone was thinking and questioning things. This change in people s lifestyles led them to perceive and design buildings and their adjoining gardens differently. Garden design changed drastically from the medieval periods; from being introverted and fortified they later became more open with a strong sense of geometry, on a central axis. Although people have different opinions about what decency really is, they are all alike. In the movie Tsotsi, Boston s, Fela s, Tsotsi s, and the dictionary s definitions of decency are all different but at the same time, are connected to one another. Some of the definitions are more complex than the others, but all of them are related to each other, directly or indirectly. In the movie, Tsotsi, Boston states that he thinks decency means Respect man. For yourself. Boston believes that a decent person should have reverence for themselves, even though he doesn t. While Tsotsi does not express his opinion of decency verbally or in written form like the other sources, it can be seen in his actions and reactions. Tsotsi makes a decent living by having a home, a gang, and a bit of money, therefore living up to Fela s opinion of decency and agreeing with Fela s viewpoint. Tsotsi shows respect for himself by not drinking, smoking, and gambling, and by taking care of himself, and shows respect for others by trying to pay off Miriam, trying to get money to help Boston, running away when his father beats the dog, returning the baby, and treating Morris as an equal. These actions are also considered honorable behavior. Since Tsotsi has respect for himself and for others in his actions, his opinion of decency is like Boston s. His definition of decency is also like Fela s as he takes care of himself and makes a decent living. The dictionary s definition of decency only partly agrees with Tsotsi, as Tsotsi is not correct, but has respect for himself and for others, and is modest. Tsotsi s definition is a mixture of all the definitions, and is the most

By studying embryology medical professionals will learn the causes of birth defects. They will have a better understanding on how the human body reproduces and the process it goes through to produce other individuals. Embryologyhas not been fully discovered and analyzed. There could be much more scientists could find. They might just be scratching the surface on a much deeper concept. Embryology has 3 periods. Tese periods are called the germinal period, the embryonic period, and the fetal period. These periods last 9 months in all for humans. These periods are what the embryogoes through to grow into a strong and healthy child. Birth defects can occur in any of these three periods. Although embryology has a vast world of information that has yet to been discovered, these three periods help explain the majority. The first period is the germinal period. What is the purpose of mitosis? The purpose of mitosis is to create or produce more cells for a living organism. Mitosis occurs when genetic substance in the nucleus divides or separates in order to create more cells. Cytokinesis normally occurs next and the single cell develops into two separate cells. This same process continues to occur over and over creating more cells for an organism replacing old or dead cells. B.) What other term is commonly used in place of mitosis ? Grouping of organisms according to the similar anatomy helps to understand their evolution and how those organisms have being developed over millions of years. Similarly, structures of organisms have developed over years to function better to survive on the earth. Even though some organisms are unicellular, while some are multicelliular, both types of organisms have got particular structure to function that helps to fulfill their needs. Thus, structure and function of the organisms, including humans, portray the incredible creations of the nature (Campbell et al. 2008). Class reptilian is included snakes, lizards known as Gecko, crocodiles, and so on. The amniotic egg is the most significant feature of reptilian. The amniotic egg is an essential stage of the life cycle of reptilian that helps them to complete their life cycle without water. The body structure of reptilians is specialized to survive in terrestrial environment. Consequently, many reptilians have got four limbs for locomotion. Locomotion is essential for reptilians to live in terrestrial environments (Campbell et al. 2008). He resisted pressure from inside and outside the Fed to slow down the economy. Instead of being overly concerned about inflation, he seemed to have accepted the idea that deep changes in the economy have made sustained growth possible without pushing prices up. (Church par. 2) Because of Alan Greenspan, the Fed has learned to be more patient. It allows the economy to grow faster than expected without putting on the brakes by raising interest rates. However, Greenspan always stays on guard. He is a renowned numbers cruncher who keeps tabs on the most obscure corners of the economy. Robin Leight Pemberton said that he was likely to back up his predictions by citing such obscure data as vacuum cleaner sales in Iowa (Church Par 3). Richard Attenborough Research Paper The religious beliefs if film icon and Gandhi director Sir Richard Attenborough Legendary British film actor Sir Richard Attenborough passed away on August 24 at the age of 90. The performer, producer, and director starred in dozens of films, and is most well known for his roles in Jurassic Park, The Great Escape, Flight of the Phoenix, Miracle on 34th Street, and A Bridge too Far. Attenborough also produced and directed many movies himself, his most acclaimed work being the 1982 biopic Gandhi for which he personally won two Academy Awards. The critically acclaimed Gandhi was Attenborough s passion project. The film featured British actor Ben Kingsley now famous, but little known at the time in the titular role, and Attenborough both produced and directed the biography. Although he won two Academy Awards, the film itself won eight. Criticized by historians for contributing to myth making, the film was nonetheless a critical and financial success, earning 20 times its $22 million budget. The project finally got off of the ground after 20 years of Attenborough attempting to secure funding. I will go on trying because I would be arrogantly stupid not to, but having to adhere to custom and conviction in terms of practice I find destructive rather than constructive. It seems to me that organised, formal religions have done a fair amount of damage in terms of our chances of living without

One of the novels which Styron admired was Sound and Fury, by William Faulkner. Styron embraced some of Faulkner s approach to writing and this can be seen by juxtaposing both Sophie s Choice and Sound and Fury. Loveand guilt are major topics which both novels share. These emotions are felt by humans everyday, but having too much of both of these elements can prove to be negative for the wellbeing of mankind. Stingo was unable to help Sophie, though, so he expresses guilt because of the inability to prevent Sophie from ending her life. In Faulkner s novel, guilt is represented in a similar way. Quentin Compson grew up admiring his older sister Caddy. One way he showed his fondness for Caddy is by telling their father that he had committed incest with her and had impregnated her. He did this to conceal the truth about Caddy; that she became pregnant from her secret lover. Although his efforts were great, Quentin could not convince their family about him fathering his sister s child. Caddy was sent off, leaving her newly born daughter at the Compson house. Quentin lived with the guilt of what happened with Caddy through his adulthood. His life abruptly ended when he decided to commit suicide, just as Sophie had done. Included in the final thought process of Quentin Compson, he mentions, you cannot bear to think that someday it will no longer hurt you like this now were getting at it you seem to regard it merely as an experience that will whiten tour hair overnight (Faulkner, 107). This proves how Quentin loved and was deeply upset by what had happened to his sister, and he could not bear to live with those emotions anymore so he made the decision to end his life. In both novels, guilt has gotten to the best of both Sophie and Quentin. This exposes the
