The Role of African American Women in the Civil Rights...
The African American Civil Rights Movement was a series of protests in the United States South from
approximately 1955 through 1968. The overall goal of the Civil Rights Movement was to achieve
racial equality before the law. Protest tactics were, overall, acts of civil disobedience. Rarely were they
ever intended to be violent. From sit ins to boycotts to marches, the activists involved in the Civil
Rights Movement were vigilant and dedicated to the cause without being aggressive. While African
American men seemed to be the leaders in this epic movement, African American women played a
huge role behind the scenes and in the protests. When discussing the American Civil Rights
Movement, the names that seem to come up are those of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, unlike many protest leaders, Clark s most influential work was done behind the scenes.
Septima Poinsette Clark was an educator first and foremost. She got a job teaching as soon as she
graduated from high school and taught children during the day and illiterate adults at night. She first
got involved in political activism when she began campaigning for equal salaries for teachers
regardless of their race. She also joined the National Association for the Advancement of Colored
People (NAACP), which eventually cost Clark her job. Because she was unable to find work, she was
forced to move to Monteagle, Tennessee where she worked as a teacher at Highlander Folk School.
This is where Septima Clark would make her mark on history. She began by teaching literacy cources
where she would teach uneducated adults simple things like how to fill out a voter registration card or
a driver s license forms. Clark saw a need for this type of education and realized that this was the key
to the advancement of the African American people.
It was through these ideas that Septima Clark eventually developed the idea for Citizenship Schools .
These were schools that taught adults how to read and eventually gain citizenship through education.
The citizenship schools are what Septima Clark is most famous for, and for good reason. They not
only increased literacy and education, they

Optimism Critical Thinking Essay
The relationship of optimism with psychological well being is a well researched topic. Maintaining an
optimistic view on life has been shown to reduce depression. The literature on optimism also provides
information on ways to measure optimism and distinguishes between the different theoretical
constructs used to define optimism. Throughout this review, these topics, as well as other important
issues related to optimism will be discussed in great detail. It is hoped that by reading this review, the
reader will become appreciative of the powerful benefits of maintaining a positive outlook on life.
Optimism is defined as the belief that upcoming occurrences will have positive results. Optimism has
been connected to numerous facets of mental health in adults (Lai, 1995; Schweizer, Beck Seyffer,
Schneider, 1999). The study of optimism derives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those that will be covered in this overview consist of quality of life, coping styles, unhappiness, and
faith in a fair world. Prior investigation has established that a perceived quality of life is swayed by an
individual s level of optimism. Other aspects, such as coping styles and social connections have been
positively correlated with a high quality of life. This is a very subjective phrase and has been
demarcated in many ways. One meaning states that quality of life is centered on the personal
assessment of one s possessions and contentment with these possessions (Harju Bolen, 1998).
Harju and Bolen (1998) investigated the influence of optimism on quality of life of university
undergraduates by evaluating three sets of optimists (low, moderate, and high) The subjects, 204

which assesses numerous coping methods, and a quality of life assessment created by the scientists

able to make decisions on experiences that they themselves could not understand. This really raised a
lot of questions to me about who is in power and how big of a problem it is the those in power are not
more diverse. We have struggled in society and have imprisoned so many behind stone walls of
racism, sexism, and homophobia (Rudacille 140).
It also raised awareness that the very same acts done by heterosexual couples were acceptable, and not
punishable in the confines of the home, but that gays were not even safe in private. After the decision
in Lawrence v Texas made by the U.S. Supreme Court, it was understood that the gay community had
a chance to move forward into the light even more, and that their fight for freedom would not
disappear. By declaring that it is unconstitutional to make arrests against gays in the home, it also
declared that homosexuals should have the same rights as everyone else. It made it more acceptable
and brought homosexuality into the light to where it was okay to talk about and dispute. Not only was
it just an invasion of liberty, as the Court thought , but also the case enforced a bad law, a Homosexual
Status Law, which made being gay a crime.
In writing this paper, I went back to the very beginning of our discussions, and looked at my very first
discussion post on the Stonewall Uprising. I realized, that while we did do a lot of court case focused
work, that I still learned a lot even outside of these cases. I wanted to post both my

a lesser work load to continue to be healthy (Keller 2017). The next study that was concerned with
how a pitcher returned to the game was analyzed from numerous different pitchers from 2008 2013.

parents helped them to a path of harmony and self control. This brought King Yao s attention to Shun.

He argued that the population growth was faster than the rate of food production and thus it would

Overpopulation is an objectionable condition which the number of human population expands faster

A physical, biological or chemical alteration to the air in the atmosphere can be termed as pollution. It
occurs when any harmful gases, dust, smoke enters into the atmosphere and makes it difficult for
plants, animals and humans to survive. Since the creation of the Clean Water and Clean Air Acts,
significant improvements have been made to the overall water and air quality. Despite efforts,
pollution remains a major threat to our general health and well being and the problem still persists at
harmful levels. America s Troubled Waters, a report by US Public Interest Research Groups (U.S.
PIRG), cites the following statistics regarding the state of America s waterways: Approximately 39%
of rivers, 46% of lakes, and 51% of estuaries are still too polluted for safe fishing or swimming.
Furthermore, pollution has caused nearly 20,000 beach closings in 2004, the highest level in 15 years.
The EPA s Wadeable Streams Assessment finds that 42% of all U.S. stream miles are in poor
condition. More than half of those found in the eastern portion of the U.S. and 40% of those in the
central region are considered to be in poor condition. Even though water pollution has spread, there
are many solutions to this problem. Responsible practicing of Fertilizer and Pesticides use, filter
runoff, capture and dispose of floating pollution in waterway are some measures which can be taken in
order to prevent water pollution. Fertilizers and

Essay On Women s Rights In American Time
The Rights of Women in Shakespearian Time Verses Rights of Women Currently
Since Shakespearian time to the present, there has been a dramatic change in the expectations of what
women are supposed to do. In many different ways, women have started to be expected to do quite a
bit more. In terms of family management and overall authority within the family, as well with
expectations of what they are allowed to do outside the house. Since Shakespeare s time there has
been quite a few things concerning women s rights that have happened, in fact several hundred years
have passed, and a lot has changed in the world. For example, as it currently stands in the United
States of America, it is possible for a woman to become leader of our country, and several others
countries as well. Whereas in Shakespeare s time, Most countries were lead by a king, and the thought
of a woman being in charge of anything other than cooking and cleaning was laughable. The only
exception to this was in rare cases, the daughters and or wife of a noble or person of royalty, who
would sometimes be taught how to help manage the lands of the noble in order to help whomever the
daughter might marry. There are a few more examples of this in the upcoming paragraph.
In Shakespeare s time women weren t expected or even allowed to do much, they were little more than

For example they may receive as much of an education as any man. They are allowed to do anything a

of Labor s website women made up forty seven percent of the nation s workforce as of 2010. As that
statistic shows, women now make up nearly half of the workforce in America. That appears to be and
is a significant jump in the amount of women

Muslims should not be judged by their race, or what their past race members have done. Also, many

My Family Cultural Analysis
My family mainly originates from the U.K, predominantly Ireland. Both sets of my Grandparents are

the U.K which consist of Ireland, Scotland, and England. I myself like to think of myself as Irish
because, well, let s be honest, the Irish are pretty cool. This fondness of Ireland helped me determine
what images to use to represent my heritage and culture, these images consist of the Irish flag,
Shepard s Pie, an acoustic guitar, an electric guitar, and a rainy forest. I choose these images because I
thought they portrayed how I perceive my culture and heritage, beginning with the guitars. My Mother
s side of the family holds a lot of musicians who played stringed instruments such as the fiddle, banjo,

Arctic National Wildlife Refuge Research Paper
The ANWR or Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is a refuge specially designed for wilderness purposes.
This refuge is located in the northeast corner of Alaska, and is home to a rich diversity of over 250
species of wildlife. For a better description, this refuge has been named spiritual, recreational,
historical, and cultural. However, not all would agree that the arctic refuge is a rather safe place.
In 1966, many Alaska Natives protested due to the ANWR being threatened by dirty oil and gas
development. Since then, many laws and acts have been passed and signed so that the ANWR would
be kept safe. For example, in 1960 President Eisenhower established the Arctic National Wildlife
Range to preserve wilderness, wildlife, and recreation. Also in 1980, President Carter signed the
Alaska Interest Lands Conservation Act. This act expanded the Arctic Refuge s size, along with

Richard Nixon s Pardon Rhetorical Analysis Essay
President Gerald Ford s Pardon of Richard Nixon Former President of the United States, Gerald R.
Ford gave a speech pardoning his predecessor, former President Richard Nixon, of all offenses against
the United States that he may have committed during his presidency. The announcement was made
live on September 8, 1974. The speech was written to persuade the country to agree with the
pardoning of Nixon and forgive him for the crimes he had committed against his country. Ford states
that Theirs (Nixon s Family) is an American tragedy in which we all have played a part. It could go on

President of The United States, and that he should be respected and possibly even forgiven; because
he was once in charge of the country and was once trusted by the entire country. Gerald Ford uses the
logic of his reasons, and the effectiveness of its supporting evidence to convey why it is so important

President Ford also brings forward the idea that, if the process of fair trial

The Captivity Of Orcas Within Institutions Like Seaworld...
I. Overview of the Issue The topic at hand is the captivity of orcas in institutions like SeaWorld. This
issue has been popularized recently because of the documentary, Blackfish, which sets out to build
opposition to whale captivity. Orca captivity involves many stakeholders, including trainers, business
executives, park visitors, and, of course, the orcas themselves. The ethics and dangers behind orca
captivity are what make this topic controversial, especially in light of trainer deaths, specifically that
of Dawn Brancheau, which is addressed in Blackfish and various other sources on the issue. These
scandals also prompted the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to begin a legal
battle with SeaWorld over orca captivity, a case that might change this institution permanently. Due to
these current events, as well as the basic nature of the issue which involves a mesmerizing animal and
its proposed right to freedom, the topic of orca captivity is one that captivates and demands debate. II.
Specific Guiding Question I decided to research the question Should orcas be kept in captivity?
Researching orca captivity in depth interested me, personally, because I consider myself a lover of

A License Program Can Reduces Car Crash Rates
Teenagers Driving Studies have shown that the Graduated License Program can reduces car crash
rates by 40%. The GDL is available in all 50 states. Since the decrease of teenage accidents have been
declining some states are making the GDL a law in the state.
Car crashes are the number one death of teenagers, a lot of these deaths are by the use of technology
and not buckling up. To begin, the National safety council reports that 28% of vehicle crashes , are
caused by the use of technology (Klass Roney 5). Many accidents are caused by teens looking at their
phones and the use of social media behind the wheel. If more stricter laws are set on phones in cars
that percentage should fall. In general, the use of phones today by people is just about everyone and
people should be more smart and not be using their phones while driving not just for their safety but
others. Furthermore, the amount of teens that die in car accidents is Four times the amount of drivers
twentyfive to sixtynine (Klass Roney 3). Younger drivers do not buckle up as many other older and
experienced drivers. The more young drivers that are taught what the real impacts of not wearing a
seatbelt can cause they would probably be more wise. Generally speaking, some young teen drivers do
not see the seatbelt as being important, when really it is the most important thing in the car. Better

The Similarities Between Mars And Mars
Mars, the red planet, and fourth planet from the sun. What is Mars really like, is it cold or hot, wet or
dry? Can humans live on Mars, and if so how? For decades scientists have been studying Mars, they
have been using rovers and from there they collected data, samples, and took pictures. These rovers
study Mars atmosphere, temperatures, weather, if it has water, and a lot more. With all of the data the
scientists have gathered we know that Mars atmosphere is a lot different than our, yet still has
similarities.
Even though Earth and Mars are in the same solar system and orbit the same sun, Mars atmosphere
and the planet itself is a lot different from Earth. Mars is 142 million miles away from the sun, with a
year being 687 days long. It is about half of Earth s size, and is one tenth of Earth s mass. Mars
atmosphere is carbon based, containing 95.3% carbon dioxide, and also it only has .3% water vapor
(Source for %). The average temperature on Mars is 81 degrees Fahrenheit which is approximately 62
degrees Celsius (NASA). Mars atmosphere is also very thin, so it does not allow liquid water to exist
at the surface for long (Newsela). Also Mars has a lot less gravity, Earth has 62.5% more gravity than
Mars does (NASA). Mars environment would not be very hospitable for human life.
Earth also differs a lot from Mars, Earth is 78.1% nitrogen, and 20.9% oxygen, and isn t carbon based
(Source for %). While Mars only is only .3% water vapor, Earth is 1 4%

Themes Of Second Isaiah
Second Isaiah is enclosed within the Book of Isaiah as one of the compositions during the exile.
Consequently, it is comprehended as one the first of the Latter Prophets in the Hebrew Bible and the
first of the Major Prophets in the Christian Old Testament. Furthermore, the writings predominantly
consist of an anonymous prophet who more than likely lived with the Hebrew exiles during the period
of Babylonian captivity. In order to obtain a permissible amount of understanding of the superscription
Second Isaiah, it is imperative to understand the historical background and context.. Ergo, with this
knowledge we can best fathom and appreciate the meaning, emotions, and perspective of the target
audience and the major themes of this collection of writings. The second Book of Isaiah has major
themes of restoration prophecies of a return, social justice. and the advent of the concept of
monotheism. Additionally, it encompases and functions as guidance for the exiles as they face harsh
living conditions and a lack of hope. Lastly, it is also significant to discuss the correspondence of
Second Isaiah with Genesis, the first book of the Old Testament. Firstly, to best understand the
meaning and subject matter of Second Isaiah it is essential as readers we grasp the historical
background and context of its writings. Second Isaiah is a collection of writings on the unknown
prophet a couple generations into the exile. The exile of the South Kingdom happened in two phases

In a 6 point scale, the TE rated the project s outcome effectiveness as Satisfactory . The TE only
briefly summarized the project results at the EOP (End of Project) without comparing them with
expected outcomes. In the same scale, this TER will rate the project s outcome as Moderately
Satisfactory based on the evidence presented by the Final PIR (PIR 2014), which shows that some
progress has been made for reaching all of the project targets, but majority of targets were not
achieved 100%. A comparison of the project s achievements against the targets of its indicators is
presented below: (PIR 2014, p.4 53)
The project s Immediate Objectives are:
(i) To conserve the biodiversity of endemic ruminant livestock and improve their productivity (AfDB)
(ii) To establish effective models for community based management of endemic ruminant livestock
and its habitats at project sites, and strengthen production, market, and policy environment in support
of theses breeds (GEF)
There are 7 indicators under the project immediate objectives. By the EOP all of the indicators partly
reached or were on the track for fully reaching their targets.
Indicator 1 was the levels of household food security as measured by a household dietary diversity
score (HDDS). The target was at least 20% increase by project end from baseline levels. The target
was 50% achieved. According to statistics available by the EOP: the level for Gambia declined around
30%; the level for Mali increased 24.3%; the

The Glass Door
A gentle beam of evening sunlight beamed through the windows, making large rectangles on the white
tiled floor of the toy shop. A few last customers were inside, hurrying to select a toy to take home,
while others were checking out and leaving the shop, causing the bell at the top of the glass door to
jingle lightly. Renee stood at the checkout counter, smiling at all the little children as they clung to
their parents or hugged their new toys. The day I started this, I was so nervous. I could just barely get
my hands to stop shaking at the thought of doing this all by myself. She thought. She had been 19 at
the time, the idea of business being her definition of what she considered a simple life. She wanted to

but her thought was cut short as she saw the perpetrator. There was a little girl standing by the garbage
can just next to her shop, crouched down by the spilled contents. The light from the streetlamp shone
off of the girl s short and shockingly white hair. What scared Renee the most was that this little girl
was only wearing a white t shirt and baggy jean shorts, no shoes, no socks, no gloves. At this point,
she looked quite cold. It wasn t the best temperature out there. Fall was coming, and for a child that
looked no older than six, it meant a night or two with possibly frozen toes. Renee hurriedly unlocked
her door and pushed outside, ignoring the cold. She rushed over to the girl. Excuse me, sweetheart, are
you lost? She asked. She could see her breath fog out in front of her. The little girl turned to look at
her rather abruptly, the look on her face being that of a dog that was just discovered in the fridge. Her
tiny hands scrunched up into nervous fists at her sides and the sudden movement made her hair cover
her left eye. Can you tell me your name? Renee said quietly. She didn t get a

Barracks At The Security Police School At Lackland
It was a short drive over to the parking lot outside of building 7518. The two story khaki colored
building resembled the barracks at the Security Police School at Lackland. The building itself
provided a sense of familiarity, which helped ease some of my anxiety and uncertainty. Sgt. Billingsly
escorted me into the Dorm Managers office where I presented my military orders to Staff Sargent
Kingsley, the manager in charge of maintaining order in the barracks. He was also charged with
ensuring that the rules were followed with regards to maintenance and visitors. He had dark brown
hair, and by the looks of him, he spent hours in the gym lifting. He offered a friendly welcome and

I had lots of questions and of course, my curiosity had been sparked since my talk with Gene. I got
dressed and headed to the snack bar to find Billingsly. There was a classic 1970 s jukebox along the
right wall and a pool table in the middle of the room. Aside from Billingsly, who was talking to
someone, the place appeared deserted. Billingsly introduced me to an Airman Tom Simpson from
Huntington, West Virginia. Airman Simpson was about twenty and was shorter than me with a little
more bulk. Despite the common misconception that the men of West Virginia were isolated rough and
rugged mountain boys, Simpson was charismatic and outgoing. Billingsly also introduced me to the
snack bar attendant and told her it is my first day on the island. She greeted me with a warm smile and
welcomed me to the PI. Billingsly and Simpson work together on day flight so Billingsly asked
Simpson if he wanted to go on my base tour followed by a downtown excursion. Simpson perked up
as soon as he heard downtown and almost knocked us down heading for the door. As we left the
barracks parking lot, I was overwhelmed by the sheer size and lack of perimeter fence to keep
unauthorized personnel from entering the base. That explained the considerable need for the 3rd
Security Police Group. Billingsly explained that the perimeter of the base totaled approximately 27
miles, but only about 10 miles of the perimeter fence line was still intact. Over the years, it collapsed

The Allegory Of Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
A Reflection Summary for Young Goodman Brown By Nathaniel Hawthorne Nathaniel Hawthorne,
used many literary concepts in his work, Young Goodman Brown. The concepts he demonstrates help
the reader gain a more detailed meaning of the messages he was trying to convey. There are many
possible meanings and outlooks on the techniques he uses in this story. In Young Goodman Brown ,
Hawthorne used the time of day as an allegory throughout the course of the text to symbolize how
Goodman Brown progressively gave into the Devil s temptation. The use of the allegory, allows the
meaning of the setting to develop throughout the entire course of the text, creating a deeper meaning
rather than it being abruptly introduced. For example, when Hawthorne stated, ...the felled trunks and

The use of prose fiction is effective because throughout the course of the story the day gets later,
causing the story and environment to get darker symbolizing how Brown loses his spirituality by
listening to the devil s arguments and staying in the forest. In addition to the author s use of allegory,
Hawthorne also uses Young Goodman Brown s wife, Faith, as a symbol to represent his spirituality
throughout his journey through the forest. The author uses this literary concept because he wants to
show how devoted Brown was to his faith, by comparing it to the relationship between man and wife.
This prose fiction concept relates to allegory because both involve the deeper meaning behind the

A Study On The Classroom
Alina was observed during the morning in her third grade class. At the start of the observation, Alina
appeared focused and engaged as she worked independently on a math assignment. After a few
minutes, Mrs. Hippchen, Alina s third grade teacher, reviewed the math answers to the class. As Mrs.
Hippchen reviewed the answers and called upon students to provide answers, Alina appeared focused
as she listened and wrote on her math worksheet. She occasionally looked over at a peer s paper
during the activity. When Mrs. Hippchen asked the students to raise their hands if they obtained the
correct answer to a question, Alina raised her hand. At one point, Alina was called upon to solve a
math problem. She incorrectly answered the question, however, with her teacher s feedback, she was
able to correct her answer.
Mrs. Hippchen then instructed the class to clear their desks to start a new math activity. Alina followed
her teacher s direction. As Mrs. Hippchen reviewed a math homework assignment to the class, Alina

Startle Response Psychology
Specifically, patients who experience FTLD have shown emotional changes that are consistent with
self relevant processing. However, individuals with FTLD still exhibit primitive aspects of an
emotional response (i.e. the startle response), which is commonly followed by embarrassment. As
indicated by prior research, embarrassment is a self conscious response that is dependent on specific
regions in the frontal cortex. Due to these findings Sturm et al. (2006), hypothesized that the startle
response would remain intact with patients with FTLD, but the self conscious emotional aspect will
not be present. Researchers gathered 30 patients with FTLD and 23 cognitively normal patients as a
control for the startle response stimulus. The measures ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The population observed consisted of 27 patients with behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia
(byFTD) and 33 healthy older adults who acted as the control group. Comparable to FTLD patients,
people with byFTD experience disruptions in self conscious emotion that has targeted neural regions
crucial in emotional functioning. Once again researchers sought to investigate the neural correlates of
self conscious emotional reactivity by using the same physiological reactivity measurements with
additional add ons (i.e. respiration depth, and finger temperature). As for the emotional behavior
measurement, investigators videotaped the participant s behavior. Specifically, participants were asked
to engage in a karaoke task, which they later had to watch as a measure for embarrassment. The non
self conscious emotional reactivity was measured through asking the participants to view a sad video
clip. Prior to the experiment, participants were required to partake in a clinical evaluation which
included: structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), a clinical interview, neurological
examination, an assessment of dementia severity, and a neuropsychological evaluation. Using

The Conventions of the Soap Opera Genre with Reference to at Least Two Programmes
The soap opera genre originated in America in the 1930s as a radio programme. It was targeted at
housewives who tuned in while doing their household chores. Soaps included many domestic issues to
keep the audience interested. The name soaps came from advertising slots between programmes. As
the soaps were aimed at housewives, the adverts mainly consisted of products of a domestic nature.

Continuity is an important factor whilst examining the conventions of the soap opera genre. One
aspect of continuity is the theme tunes played at the start and the end of the programme. At the
beginning of all soaps there is a main theme tune. In Eastenders the programme begins with the drum
roll. It is loud and easily recognisable. As this is playing, a large birds eye view of London is shown. It
gradually zooms in onto Albert Square as the soap begins. This sets the scene effectively as the
audience instantly know where the soap is set. It also makes it seem more realistic as it is set in a real
location as opposed to the setting being in a studio.
In Coronation Street the theme tune is a violin melody. This also has easily distinguishable shots of
Weatherfield shown as it is played. The theme tune is distinctive and one that the audience will
recognise when they switch on to watch the soap. Theme tunes help to create habits for viewers who
hear them and sit down to watch the soap. They set the scene allowing the viewer to become more
quickly absorbed into the action.
Another aspect of continuity is the reliance upon the cliff hanger scene at the end of an episode. A
cliffhanger is when the audience are left in suspense after an event that is not concluded within the
episode, ensuring they will watch next time. Often soaps finish with a

The Epidemic Of Polio During The Egyptian Era
From the late Egyptian era to the early 1900 s, humans were perplexed about why people were
suddenly getting paralyzed without warning. It wasn t until research skills and technology
accessibility improved that scientists were able to grasp the idea that it was all caused by the
Poliomyelitis virus. Polio began ravaging through the world in the twentieth century, crippling
children, and, even after the discovery of numerous vaccines, is still relentless enough that it infects
children today. Poliomyelitis, also called infantile paralysis (Swanson 1), is a virus that has been
around for over 3,000 years, but had troubled scientists right up until the early 1900s when they had
the resources to fully research it. This virus is part of the enterovirus division, meaning it attacks
through oral ingestion and gains access to the body along the gastrointestinal tract (the tract that leads
from the mouth to the anus). From the G.I. tract, it then enters the blood, through which it travels to
and attacks the nervous system. Once the virus fully destroys a neuron, the neuron then cannot
regenerate and therefore ends the connection between the other neurons around it. This left the
infected hosts with twisted limbs, extreme muscle pain and spasms, and, in extremely severe cases, the
inability to perform vital life functions. Polio can be classified into three different types, depending on
which part of the nervous system it decides to attack. Spinal Poliomyelitis was the most

candida infection and should be the number one thing to quit, which could be quite challenging for
majority who suffer from yeast infections. I have mentioned this in other parts of this book as well.
Patients with candida have to give away their love for chocolates and candies, and discontinue with

Problems of yeast infections in children
When the yeast syndrome is not correctly and timely detected in candida infected kid by a medical
practitioner (who does not comprehend or well informed about candida), he/she may misinterpret the
case as the kid patient is over active and has low level of learning capacity. A well known pediatric,
Dr.William Crook, the author of The Yeast Syndrome observed that his young patients recovered
notably as soon as their overgrown yeast is treated and they resume back to a healthy and playful life.
It is a sorry state of affairs that most of the child specialist doctors do not have enough knowledge and
expertise to diagnose child intestinal dybiosis to treat the illness properly, as Dr.Crook did.
Candida affected children suffer from numerous allergic disorders that may have impact on many
other areas as well.

pervaded, whether it be adventurous astronauts on a trip to the moon or the maiden voyage of a (then)
futuristic airship. Then, come the German avant garde, the expressionist masterpiece Metropolis
proved that the science fiction film could go beyond the trivial and occupy a place of legitimate
artistic worth. Metropolis also marks the first feature length film to feature a robot though the word is
never used. Instead, Maria is a Maschinenmensch, a machine human, a being capable of labor and
beauty, even of sexual enticement, but devoid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She has breasts, sex appeal, she dances, she winks her smoky eye. Other robots in film, like the
Terminator, portray what are perceived as definitively masculine characteristics. Roy Schwartzman, in
writing for Studies in Popular Culture, calls this trend of sexualizing what should be sex less robots
engenderneering. (75) In reality, robots, defined as machines that operate autonomously, have no need
for sexual characteristics. Real robots have no gender characteristics because, as of now, unlike in
film, the robot s existence is limited to strictly industrial and scientific applications. Should robots hit
the mainstream and enter our homes as maids or nannies (à la Rosie in The Jetsons), their designs may
incorporate more markedly human qualities. In order for consumers to feel more comfortable around
their new robot friends, they may give them names and choose to gender the personality that is
programmed into them. (Schwartzman 83) Maria in Metropolis has no need for gender; she is only a
simulated she and, within her mechanical core, lacks desire, spirit, empathy, love, malice, etc. Maria
tells us that in the 1920s, robots were still being seen as mechanical humans that require a personality
and gender identity, despite robots in reality having nothing at all with their human creators. But the
more autonomous machines become, the greater the need for talking about them in anthropological
terms. Jump forward 40 years in film history to 1968 to look at another film featuring artificial
intelligence. 2001: A Space Odyssey, after all, is about evolution. Filmmaker Stanley Kubrick and
famous science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke wrote the screenplay to 2001 jointly (as well as the
novelization) with human evolution in mind and, naturally, artifical intelligence comes into

Vitamin C Scurvy
C. Scurvy
Scurvy is less likely differential diagnosis that may be associated with the signs and symptoms of this
patient. Scurvy is associated with a state of dietary deficiency of vitamin C. Although it is uncommon,
it still occurs and can affect children who have chronic dietary vitamin C deficiency. Vitamin C is
relevant for the triple helix formation of collagen; a vitamin C deficiency results in impaired collagen
synthesis, which typically typical manifest by poor wound healing that is noted in collagen tissues and
in organs such as skin, cartilage, dentine, osteoid, and capillary blood vessels (McCance Huether,
2014). Pathologic changes in affected children are associated with bone changes during periods of
rapid bone growth. The bony ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The disorder is a syndrome that is found in newborns and children that consisted of osteoporosis with
fractures and skeletal deformities (Mccance Huether, 2014). Its classification is based on both
inheritance and clinical findings. In the most severe form of this disorder, the child is usually stillborn
or dies soon after birth, but some may survive into childhood. In its more severe forms the signs and
symptoms are evident at birth because fractures and deformity have occurred in utero. The less severe
forms may be evident until the child starts to walk. Clinical manifestations of this disease are
osteoporosis and increased rate of fractures, possible bony deformation, triangular faces, possible
vascular weakness, possible blue sclera, and poor dentition (McCance Huether, 2014). The main errors
in this disease is due to the synthesis of collagen, a triple helix that contains two matching alpha
chains and one beta chain. Collagen is mostly present in bone, cartilage, eye tissue, skin, and the
vascular system. The severity of this disorder phenotype along the related anomalies are primarily
dependent on the severity of the genetic anomaly and the part of the triple helix that is affected
(Greeley, et al., 2013). Moreover,

File Sharing And The Internet Piracy
In recent years, internet piracy or file sharing of copyrighted material has gained much popularity. It is
a topic that has incessantly sparked debate and has even received global attention. Although on the
surface the act of file sharing may seem harmless, it is far from it. Each year, film and record
production companies as well as software and video game development companies suffer from
billions of dollars in lost profits. This loss comes as a direct result of internet piracy. Many agree that
file sharing is unethical and consider it to be no different than downright theft. On the other hand,
there are those that support file sharing and claim that their actions are easily justified and ethical. This
essay will provide a brief overview and history of file sharing, will consider the arguments of each
side, and will offer my personal observations and stance on the issue.
File sharing, put simply, is the process of making available and distributing files via the internet. Many
freely developed applications have been made available that simplify this process, providing the
ability to easily search for, download, and upload any piece of digital content imaginable. These
applications are commonly referred to as P2P or peer to peer applications as they allow individuals
(peers) to directly connect with other peers to share files. By themselves, such applications are useless;
a central network must be available that allows each peer to see one another. These

Terry Teachout s Taking Sinatra Seriously
Surprisingly, despite his mentality of seeing himself as the next great singer, Frank had some trouble
singing at first. In his article, Taking Sinatra Seriously , Terry Teachout stated that Sinatra s voice
tended to sound a bit awkward, unaware, and uncomfortable in faster paced songs; it would take
around a decade for him to reach full vocal development (55). As a result, his friend Hank Sanicola
prompted Frank to take singing lessons. One of Sinatra s instructors was former Metropolitan Opera
singer, John Quinlan. Quinlan had him do vocal exercises as well as pronunciation work: attempting
to eliminate his Hoboken accent from songs. Fortunately, these lessons did work to Frank s overall
advantage; he felt much more confident with his singing, despite his old friends mocking him for
sounding so proper (Kaplan 53). Furthermore, while working early in his career with band leader and
skilled trombone player Tommy Dorsey, Frank attempted to pick up more skills from this master of
breath control. I used to watch Tommy s back, his jacket, to see when he would breathe , Sinatra later
admitted (Kaplan 105). Naturally, Frank worked to improve his lung capacity: he did so apparently by
swimming in pools for hours, holding his breath underwater ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

At that point, I m trying to understand the point of view of the person behind the words. I want to
understand his emotions. Then I start speaking, not singing, the words so I can get the right

adjust the way I ve been practicing the arrangement. I m looking to fit the emotion behind the song
that I ve come up with to the music. Then it all comes together. You sing the song. If the take is good,
you re done (Kaplan 108). This was the genius that Sinatra possessed even in the lowest part of his
career, even during recording sessions for records that would barely sell at the

Gilgamesh Conflict Analysis
In the beginning of Chapter 3 of the epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh is faced with a difficult decision:
should he reject the goddess of love and war, Ishtar s romantic advances? It may appear that
Gilgamesh should have accepted Ishtar s offer of marriage, as the rejection led to the death hundreds
of innocent citizens of Uruk. On the surface, the epic could easily mislead the reader to believe this is
the case, but without further analysis, the reader may miss the epic s major character flaws that would
have made a relationship between Gilgamesh and Ishtar catastrophic. Through studying the behavioral
tendencies each character possesses, this misunderstanding can be addressed. Through this study, it
becomes clear that Gilgamesh s pride and Ishtar s sharp temper prove that a relationship between them
should not happen because this combination of traits tend to escalate each other to extreme levels of
conflict. In order to prove this claim, the paper will be structured to follow the order of the plot. I will
be focusing on Gilgamesh s harsh rejection to Ishtar, and how it begins to undermine any chance of a
healthy relationship between them. Then, I will be analyzing Ishtar s reaction to the insults, and then I
will be studying Gilgamesh s celebration to his victory over Ishtar. For each component, I will be
studying how Gilgamesh s pride and Ishtar s temper escalate their conflict.
Gilgamesh and Ishtar would make a poor couple because Gilgamesh s pride and Ishtar s short

Parents are not stupid they know the difference between Spanking and abusing (Saunders 28).
Spanking is absolutely not child abuse. Spanking is a Type of corporal punishment. Corporal
Punishment is inflicting pain to a child whether its whipping, spanking, pinching, flicking, smacking,

Effects Of Social Media In The 21st Century
Social Media in the Twenty First Century The first social media site that was actively used, Myspace,
was created in 2003. In the upcoming years after this, numerous social media sites were created, such
as, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The effects of social media on people have been researched for
several years. Two authors, Shirley Lee and Eva Wiseman, have similar and different views on social
media. Using their views and persuasive methods, they wrote an article on the outcomes of social
media. The conclusion of social media, from both authors, is that it can be useful in everyday life,
damaging to teens mental health, and cause lingering effects. Social media can be very useful in
everyday lives. In Lee s view, she used her Facebook application to send gifts to her friends she didn t
get to see often in person. She insists that Facebook is a cool app for sending gifts and I have 50
ongoing conversations on the app (Lee 4). Facebook can help you keep in touch with distant family, or
friends, by posting pictures or status. Similarly, Wiseman states that young girls use it to stay
connected. The author, Wiseman, generalized that they post pictures, and status updates often
throughout a day. However, Wiseman s opposing view on using social media everyday is that it can
put pressure on teenagers because they feel as if they have to keep posting to stay pertinent. For
example, a 13 year old that was interviewed said, It s like I m a brand..to stay relevant you have

Berkeley Admissions Essay
The election night of 2000 was a pivotal moment in my life. I stayed up all night on November 7th,
2000, not because I was enthralled with watching Florida flip flop between Gore and Bush, but
because I had an IV in my arm which made it impossible to be comfortable. Earlier that evening, I was
diagnosed with Type One Diabetes, a disease affecting 1 of 800 people in America. This was an
especially crucial time in my life, considering I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis an autoimmune
disease that attacks the GI track in 1 of 1400 Americans the June before, and I had my Bar Mitzvah in
September. According to the Jewish religion, I had become an adult, and as such, I had decided to
greet my new medical challenges with gusto, attempting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I found the latter to be the most satisfying, as many kids, especially the older ones, were curious about
the effects, but hesitant to ask an adult about the repercussions. The most challenging thing to me was
the number of parents who seemed to simply give up. I saw a large amount of inaction; which in the
case of diabetes is simply unacceptable. I enjoyed educating and motivating these kids to make
beneficial lifestyle changes, so that good health rather than disease can help to define their futures, as
well as my own.
While I started my volunteer educational program, another man was well ensconced in his own. Al
Gore took up a cause that many people seemed to be ignoring, our environment. The issues of climate
change and general environmentalism are very important to me. I see similarities between the
challenges of managing a clean environment for our globe and the challenges of managing good
health to me. Through concerted efforts to make routine changes we have the capacity to live more
ecologically friendly, and often healthier lives. I have seen that with just a few adjustments, I can
control my diabetes to the point where most people do not even know I have it. Likewise, I believe
that if we commit to making fundamental changes in the way we go about our lives, we can easily
remedy several environmental issues we face today. By going to Berkeley Law School and focusing
on Environmental Law, I can apply my own life s lessons

Pilots Are No Easy Task Of Being Self Centered Or Having A...
A lot of airplane pilots get the title of being self centered or having a big ego because they are
misunderstood. Pilots are often thought to have big egos because they can operate a very difficult
powered flying vehicles and that they are above everyone else because they are believed to be smarter
than everyone else. Of course flying a plane is no easy task but just because a certain man or woman is
capable of flying these fixed winged vehicles does not mean they think they are above the rest of
ordinary people. Pilots are a group people would not think twice about and are even unheard of when
it comes to stereotypes. Pilots need to be better understood because it is not fair to anyone to be
assumed as something when you are not that. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maybe rewind to the fifties and that would not be a stereotype but rather the truth. To be honest your
airplane pilots today range all over the place from white suburban family men who are caring to our
troops right in our backyard protecting us to small farm owners who fly their crop dusters to retired
people who are just travelling the world looking for a good time. These are all caring people but let us
start with your average airliner pilots. The normal airliner pilot is probably the one that gets the most
hate, or misunderstood, because arrogant people give them that bad reputation. Often this particular
pilot is misunderstood because they are away from their families and have a very high divorce rate.
Due to the the divorce rate statistic they are often believed to be cheaters , or unloyal to their spouse.
These pilots are often like robots or machines who do the same old same old but do contradict the said
personality of a robot because they are also very caring people. These pilots have taken on the
responsibility of being responsible of hundreds of people s lives all at once. It is their responsibility to
escort those people from point A to point B safely and at the same time make sure these people have a

  • 2. The Role of African American Women in the Civil Rights... The African American Civil Rights Movement was a series of protests in the United States South from approximately 1955 through 1968. The overall goal of the Civil Rights Movement was to achieve racial equality before the law. Protest tactics were, overall, acts of civil disobedience. Rarely were they ever intended to be violent. From sit ins to boycotts to marches, the activists involved in the Civil Rights Movement were vigilant and dedicated to the cause without being aggressive. While African American men seemed to be the leaders in this epic movement, African American women played a huge role behind the scenes and in the protests. When discussing the American Civil Rights Movement, the names that seem to come up are those of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, unlike many protest leaders, Clark s most influential work was done behind the scenes. Septima Poinsette Clark was an educator first and foremost. She got a job teaching as soon as she graduated from high school and taught children during the day and illiterate adults at night. She first got involved in political activism when she began campaigning for equal salaries for teachers regardless of their race. She also joined the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), which eventually cost Clark her job. Because she was unable to find work, she was forced to move to Monteagle, Tennessee where she worked as a teacher at Highlander Folk School. This is where Septima Clark would make her mark on history. She began by teaching literacy cources where she would teach uneducated adults simple things like how to fill out a voter registration card or a driver s license forms. Clark saw a need for this type of education and realized that this was the key to the advancement of the African American people. It was through these ideas that Septima Clark eventually developed the idea for Citizenship Schools . These were schools that taught adults how to read and eventually gain citizenship through education. The citizenship schools are what Septima Clark is most famous for, and for good reason. They not only increased literacy and education, they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Optimism Critical Thinking Essay The relationship of optimism with psychological well being is a well researched topic. Maintaining an optimistic view on life has been shown to reduce depression. The literature on optimism also provides information on ways to measure optimism and distinguishes between the different theoretical constructs used to define optimism. Throughout this review, these topics, as well as other important issues related to optimism will be discussed in great detail. It is hoped that by reading this review, the reader will become appreciative of the powerful benefits of maintaining a positive outlook on life. Optimism is defined as the belief that upcoming occurrences will have positive results. Optimism has been connected to numerous facets of mental health in adults (Lai, 1995; Schweizer, Beck Seyffer, Schneider, 1999). The study of optimism derives ... Prior investigation has established that a perceived quality of life is swayed by an individual s level of optimism. Other aspects, such as coping styles and social connections have been positively correlated with a high quality of life. This is a very subjective phrase and has been demarcated in many ways. One meaning states that quality of life is centered on the personal assessment of one s possessions and contentment with these possessions (Harju Bolen, 1998). Harju and Bolen (1998) investigated the influence of optimism on quality of life of university undergraduates by evaluating three sets of optimists (low, moderate, and high) The subjects, 204 pupils carried out the following measures: the Life Orientation Test Revised (LOT R), the Brief Cope, which assesses numerous coping methods, and a quality of life assessment created by the scientists that was established on previous ... This really raised a lot of questions to me about who is in power and how big of a problem it is the those in power are not more diverse. We have struggled in society and have imprisoned so many behind stone walls of racism, sexism, and homophobia (Rudacille 140). It also raised awareness that the very same acts done by heterosexual couples were acceptable, and not punishable in the confines of the home, but that gays were not even safe in private. After the decision in Lawrence v Texas made by the U.S. Supreme Court, it was understood that the gay community had a chance to move forward into the light even more, and that their fight for freedom would not disappear. By declaring that it is unconstitutional to make arrests against gays in the home, it also declared that homosexuals should have the same rights as everyone else. It made it more acceptable and brought homosexuality into the light to where it was okay to talk about and dispute. Not only was it just an invasion of liberty, as the Court thought , but also the case enforced a bad law, a Homosexual Status Law, which made being gay a crime. In writing this paper, I went back to the very beginning of our discussions, and looked at my very first discussion post on the Stonewall Uprising. Essay On Women s Rights In American Time The Rights of Women in Shakespearian Time Verses Rights of Women Currently Since Shakespearian time to the present, there has been a dramatic change in the expectations of what women are supposed to do. In many different ways, women have started to be expected to do quite a bit more. In terms of family management and overall authority within the family, as well with expectations of what they are allowed to do outside the house. Since Shakespeare s time there has been quite a few things concerning women s rights that have happened, in fact several hundred years have passed, and a lot has changed in the world. For example, as it currently stands in the United States of America, it is possible for a woman to become leader of our country, and several others countries as well. Whereas in Shakespeare s time, Most countries were lead by a king, and the thought of a woman being in charge of anything other than cooking and cleaning was laughable. The only exception to this was in rare cases, the daughters and or wife of a noble or person of royalty, who would sometimes be taught how to help manage the lands of the noble in order to help whomever the daughter might marry. The critical breeding grounds for migratory birds would be severely impacted and the same for others. The simple action of even having humans at this location could destroy a whole species. • 16. Richard Nixon s Pardon Rhetorical Analysis Essay President Gerald Ford s Pardon of Richard Nixon Former President of the United States, Gerald R. Ford gave a speech pardoning his predecessor, former President Richard Nixon, of all offenses against the United States that he may have committed during his presidency. The announcement was made live on September 8, 1974. The speech was written to persuade the country to agree with the pardoning of Nixon and forgive him for the crimes he had committed against his country. Ford states that Theirs (Nixon s Family) is an American tragedy in which we all have played a part. It could go on and on and on, or someone must write the end to it. I have concluded that only I can do that, and if I can, I must. President Ford argued that the pardoning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By referring to Richard Nixon as former President it brings attention to the fact that Nixon was once a President of The United States, and that he should be respected and possibly even forgiven; because he was once in charge of the country and was once trusted by the entire country. Gerald Ford uses the logic of his reasons, and the effectiveness of its supporting evidence to convey why it is so important that he pardons Nixon now, rather than let the Supreme Court deal with the matter. He announces, ...many months and perhaps more years will have to pass before Richard Nixon could obtain a fair trial by jury in any jurisdiction of the United States under governing decisions of the Supreme Court. He uses the Supreme Court, the highest of all courts, to support his claim that pardoning Nixon was the best decision; and he does this by affirming that the Supreme Court would take too long and if they couldn t make a decision, no other court in the United States would be able to make a decision. Making it palpable that he is the best option and nothing else would suffice. Later in the speech President Ford also brings forward the idea that, if the process of fair trial ... • 17. The Captivity Of Orcas Within Institutions Like Seaworld... I. Overview of the Issue The topic at hand is the captivity of orcas in institutions like SeaWorld. This issue has been popularized recently because of the documentary, Blackfish, which sets out to build opposition to whale captivity. Orca captivity involves many stakeholders, including trainers, business executives, park visitors, and, of course, the orcas themselves. The ethics and dangers behind orca captivity are what make this topic controversial, especially in light of trainer deaths, specifically that of Dawn Brancheau, which is addressed in Blackfish and various other sources on the issue. These scandals also prompted the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to begin a legal battle with SeaWorld over orca captivity, a case that might change this institution permanently. Due to these current events, as well as the basic nature of the issue which involves a mesmerizing animal and its proposed right to freedom, the topic of orca captivity is one that captivates and demands debate. II. Specific Guiding Question I decided to research the question Should orcas be kept in captivity? Researching orca captivity in depth interested me, personally, because I consider myself a lover of animals and, being spurred by watching the previously mentioned documentary, I came to question whether orcas should be in captivity, at all. Ultimately, the case against orca captivity far outweighed the institution s benefits, prompting me to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The GDL is available in all 50 states. Since the decrease of teenage accidents have been declining some states are making the GDL a law in the state. Car crashes are the number one death of teenagers, a lot of these deaths are by the use of technology and not buckling up. To begin, the National safety council reports that 28% of vehicle crashes , are caused by the use of technology (Klass Roney 5). Many accidents are caused by teens looking at their phones and the use of social media behind the wheel. If more stricter laws are set on phones in cars that percentage should fall. In general, the use of phones today by people is just about everyone and people should be more smart and not be using their phones while driving not just for their safety but others. Furthermore, the amount of teens that die in car accidents is Four times the amount of drivers twentyfive to sixtynine (Klass Roney 3). Younger drivers do not buckle up as many other older and experienced drivers. The more young drivers that are taught what the real impacts of not wearing a seatbelt can cause they would probably be more wise. Generally speaking, some young teen drivers do not see the seatbelt as being important, when really it is the most important thing in the car. For decades scientists have been studying Mars, they have been using rovers and from there they collected data, samples, and took pictures. These rovers study Mars atmosphere, temperatures, weather, if it has water, and a lot more. With all of the data the scientists have gathered we know that Mars atmosphere is a lot different than our, yet still has similarities. Even though Earth and Mars are in the same solar system and orbit the same sun, Mars atmosphere and the planet itself is a lot different from Earth. Mars is 142 million miles away from the sun, with a year being 687 days long. It is about half of Earth s size, and is one tenth of Earth s mass. However, individuals with FTLD still exhibit primitive aspects of an emotional response (i.e. the startle response), which is commonly followed by embarrassment. One aspect of continuity is the theme tunes played at the start and the end of the programme. At the beginning of all soaps there is a main theme tune. In Eastenders the programme begins with the drum roll. It is loud and easily recognisable. As this is playing, a large birds eye view of London is shown. It gradually zooms in onto Albert Square as the soap begins. This sets the scene effectively as the audience instantly know where the soap is set. It also makes it seem more realistic as it is set in a real location as opposed to the setting being in a studio. In Coronation Street the theme tune is a violin melody. This also has easily distinguishable shots of Weatherfield shown as it is played. The theme tune is distinctive and one that the audience will recognise when they switch on to watch the soap. Theme tunes help to create habits for viewers who hear them and sit down to watch the soap. They set the scene allowing the viewer to become more quickly absorbed into the action. Another aspect of continuity is the reliance upon the cliff hanger scene at the end of an episode. It wasn t until research skills and technology accessibility improved that scientists were able to grasp the idea that it was all caused by the Poliomyelitis virus. Polio began ravaging through the world in the twentieth century, crippling children, and, even after the discovery of numerous vaccines, is still relentless enough that it infects children today. Poliomyelitis, also called infantile paralysis (Swanson 1), is a virus that has been around for over 3,000 years, but had troubled scientists right up until the early 1900s when they had the resources to fully research it. This virus is part of the enterovirus division, meaning it attacks through oral ingestion and gains access to the body along the gastrointestinal tract (the tract that leads from the mouth to the anus). From the G.I. tract, it then enters the blood, through which it travels to and attacks the nervous system. Once the virus fully destroys a neuron, the neuron then cannot regenerate and therefore ends the connection between the other neurons around it. This left the infected hosts with twisted limbs, extreme muscle pain and spasms, and, in extremely severe cases, the inability to perform vital life functions. • 39. Examples Of Sexism In Metropolis Science fiction s presence in film is nearly as old as film itself. With humble beginnings, film pioneers such as the French George Méliès set the genre in motion. At first, simple pastiches to Jules Verne pervaded, whether it be adventurous astronauts on a trip to the moon or the maiden voyage of a (then) futuristic airship. Then, come the German avant garde, the expressionist masterpiece Metropolis proved that the science fiction film could go beyond the trivial and occupy a place of legitimate artistic worth. Metropolis also marks the first feature length film to feature a robot though the word is never used. She has breasts, sex appeal, she dances, she winks her smoky eye. Other robots in film, like the Terminator, portray what are perceived as definitively masculine characteristics. Roy Schwartzman, in writing for Studies in Popular Culture, calls this trend of sexualizing what should be sex less robots engenderneering. (75) In reality, robots, defined as machines that operate autonomously, have no need for sexual characteristics. Real robots have no gender characteristics because, as of now, unlike in film, the robot s existence is limited to strictly industrial and scientific applications. Should robots hit the mainstream and enter our homes as maids or nannies (à la Rosie in The Jetsons), their designs may incorporate more markedly human qualities. In order for consumers to feel more comfortable around their new robot friends, they may give them names and choose to gender the personality that is programmed into them. (Schwartzman 83) Maria in Metropolis has no need for gender; she is only a simulated she and, within her mechanical core, lacks desire, spirit, empathy, love, malice, etc. Maria tells us that in the 1920s, robots were still being seen as mechanical humans that require a personality and gender identity, despite robots in reality having nothing at all with their human creators. But the more autonomous machines become, the greater the need for talking about them in anthropological terms. Scurvy is associated with a state of dietary deficiency of vitamin C. Although it is uncommon, it still occurs and can affect children who have chronic dietary vitamin C deficiency. Vitamin C is relevant for the triple helix formation of collagen; a vitamin C deficiency results in impaired collagen synthesis, which typically typical manifest by poor wound healing that is noted in collagen tissues and in organs such as skin, cartilage, dentine, osteoid, and capillary blood vessels (McCance Huether, 2014). The disorder is a syndrome that is found in newborns and children that consisted of osteoporosis with fractures and skeletal deformities (Mccance Huether, 2014). Its classification is based on both inheritance and clinical findings. In the most severe form of this disorder, the child is usually stillborn or dies soon after birth, but some may survive into childhood. In its more severe forms the signs and symptoms are evident at birth because fractures and deformity have occurred in utero. The less severe forms may be evident until the child starts to walk. Clinical manifestations of this disease are osteoporosis and increased rate of fractures, possible bony deformation, triangular faces, possible vascular weakness, possible blue sclera, and poor dentition (McCance Huether, 2014). The main errors in this disease is due to the synthesis of collagen, a triple helix that contains two matching alpha chains and one beta chain. Collagen is mostly present in bone, cartilage, eye tissue, skin, and the vascular system. The severity of this disorder phenotype along the related anomalies are primarily dependent on the severity of the genetic anomaly and the part of the triple helix that is affected (Greeley, et al., 2013). • 41. File Sharing And The Internet Piracy In recent years, internet piracy or file sharing of copyrighted material has gained much popularity. It is a topic that has incessantly sparked debate and has even received global attention. Although on the surface the act of file sharing may seem harmless, it is far from it. Each year, film and record production companies as well as software and video game development companies suffer from billions of dollars in lost profits. This loss comes as a direct result of internet piracy. Many agree that file sharing is unethical and consider it to be no different than downright theft. On the other hand, there are those that support file sharing and claim that their actions are easily justified and ethical. This essay will provide a brief overview and history of file sharing, will consider the arguments of each side, and will offer my personal observations and stance on the issue. File sharing, put simply, is the process of making available and distributing files via the internet. Many freely developed applications have been made available that simplify this process, providing the ability to easily search for, download, and upload any piece of digital content imaginable. These applications are commonly referred to as P2P or peer to peer applications as they allow individuals (peers) to directly connect with other peers to share files. By themselves, such applications are useless; a central network must be available that allows each peer to see one another. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Terry Teachout s Taking Sinatra Seriously Surprisingly, despite his mentality of seeing himself as the next great singer, Frank had some trouble singing at first. In his article, Taking Sinatra Seriously , Terry Teachout stated that Sinatra s voice tended to sound a bit awkward, unaware, and uncomfortable in faster paced songs; it would take around a decade for him to reach full vocal development (55). As a result, his friend Hank Sanicola prompted Frank to take singing lessons. One of Sinatra s instructors was former Metropolitan Opera singer, John Quinlan. Quinlan had him do vocal exercises as well as pronunciation work: attempting to eliminate his Hoboken accent from songs. Fortunately, these lessons did work to Frank s overall advantage; he felt much more confident with his singing, despite his old friends mocking him for sounding so proper (Kaplan 53). Furthermore, while working early in his career with band leader and skilled trombone player Tommy Dorsey, Frank attempted to pick up more skills from this master of breath control. I used to watch Tommy s back, his jacket, to see when he would breathe , Sinatra later admitted (Kaplan 105). • 43. Gilgamesh Conflict Analysis In the beginning of Chapter 3 of the epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh is faced with a difficult decision: should he reject the goddess of love and war, Ishtar s romantic advances? It may appear that Gilgamesh should have accepted Ishtar s offer of marriage, as the rejection led to the death hundreds of innocent citizens of Uruk. On the surface, the epic could easily mislead the reader to believe this is the case, but without further analysis, the reader may miss the epic s major character flaws that would have made a relationship between Gilgamesh and Ishtar catastrophic. Through studying the behavioral tendencies each character possesses, this misunderstanding can be addressed. Through this study, it becomes clear that Gilgamesh s pride and Ishtar s sharp temper prove that a relationship between them should not happen because this combination of traits tend to escalate each other to extreme levels of conflict. In order to prove this claim, the paper will be structured to follow the order of the plot. I will be focusing on Gilgamesh s harsh rejection to Ishtar, and how it begins to undermine any chance of a healthy relationship between them. Then, I will be analyzing Ishtar s reaction to the insults, and then I will be studying Gilgamesh s celebration to his victory over Ishtar. In the upcoming years after this, numerous social media sites were created, such as, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The effects of social media on people have been researched for several years. Two authors, Shirley Lee and Eva Wiseman, have similar and different views on social media. Using their views and persuasive methods, they wrote an article on the outcomes of social media. The conclusion of social media, from both authors, is that it can be useful in everyday life, damaging to teens mental health, and cause lingering effects. Social media can be very useful in everyday lives. In Lee s view, she used her Facebook application to send gifts to her friends she didn t get to see often in person. She insists that Facebook is a cool app for sending gifts and I have 50 ongoing conversations on the app (Lee 4). Facebook can help you keep in touch with distant family, or friends, by posting pictures or status. Similarly, Wiseman states that young girls use it to stay connected. The author, Wiseman, generalized that they post pictures, and status updates often throughout a day. However, Wiseman s opposing view on using social media everyday is that it can put pressure on teenagers because they feel as if they have to keep posting to stay pertinent. I stayed up all night on November 7th, 2000, not because I was enthralled with watching Florida flip flop between Gore and Bush, but because I had an IV in my arm which made it impossible to be comfortable. Earlier that evening, I was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes, a disease affecting 1 of 800 people in America. This was an especially crucial time in my life, considering I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis an autoimmune disease that attacks the GI track in 1 of 1400 Americans the June before, and I had my Bar Mitzvah in September. I enjoyed educating and motivating these kids to make beneficial lifestyle changes, so that good health rather than disease can help to define their futures, as well as my own. While I started my volunteer educational program, another man was well ensconced in his own. Al Gore took up a cause that many people seemed to be ignoring, our environment. Pilots are often thought to have big egos because they can operate a very difficult powered flying vehicles and that they are above everyone else because they are believed to be smarter than everyone else. Of course flying a plane is no easy task but just because a certain man or woman is capable of flying these fixed winged vehicles does not mean they think they are above the rest of ordinary people.
