Modernity and Enlightenment in The Persian Letters by...
Modernity and Enlightenment in The Persian Letters by Charles Montesquieu The Persian Letters
(1721), a fictional piece by Charles Montesquieu, is representative of the Enlightenment, both
supporting and showing conflict with its ideas. The initial perception of European people, in
particular the French, is of a busy people with goals and ambition whose focus is progress; in this
way they are able to gain knowledge a core foundation to Enlightenment. One particular section of
the Persian Letters states that the revolt against the authorities was lead by women, who through
reason, saw the inequity of their treatment and formed a voice. In Montesquieu s story, their
decision to change tradition... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The thought was that human kind was emerging from an age of darkness into Enlightenment .
This idea was focused around the advancement of scientific knowledge, the development of
respect for humanity and above all, reason. People of this time believed that knowledge had to be
earned and that through experience and observation, guided by reason, progress was inevitable.
The idea of Enlightenment filtered its way into society and was became institutionalized. During
this period, European traditions also came under the microscope and were challenged by many
scholars and philosophers. Economical, social and political attitudes were studied and began to
move away from negativity. People then focused on the positives of life and human nature. The
monarch and general hierarchy of society was questioned and related back to natural intentions for
mankind. Frenchmen felt enslaved by their current authorities and tried to overthrow them through
the improvement of literacy, anonymous tracts and social exploration. As the focus of
Enlightenment was on the natural law and order of the world, religious beliefs and especially
Christian theology were a central topic. People of this age were trying to simplify common day
human laws back to nature as it provided the basic metaphor for how mankind should live. In

Comparing The Masque Of The Red Death And Games At Twilight
In The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allen Poe, a plague comes over Prince Prospero s
kingdom. He then throws a ball to avoid the red death, but in the end, the death enters the ball and
kills everyone. In Games at Twilight by Anita Desai, children play a game, which Ravi is
determined to win. He hides in a shed full of forgotten objects, when he decides to stay there, he
becomes forgotten too. The Masque of the Red Deathand Games at Twilight have dissimilar
symbols and themes. The Masque of the Red Death and Games at Twilight have different
symbols. A symbol in The Masque of the Red Death is the clock, which represents the time left
in the people s lives. In Games at Twilight a symbol is the shed, it represents forgotten
possessions. When Ravi decided to stay in the shed, the other children forgot about him. The
shed was filled with forgotten objects, By now he could see enough in the dark to make out the
large solid shapes of old wardrobes, broken buckets and bedsteads piled on top of each other
around him (144). Every time the clock rang, it became close to their death. The symbols in these

Analgesic Pain Management
MANAGEMENT OF ACUTE PAIN
The choice of the pain management strategies depends on different factors including the site and
the nature of the surgery, type and intensity of pain, co morbidities and the ongoing clinical
condition of the patient.
As described earlier, whilst satisfactory pain relief is essential for the recovery of the critically ill
patients, care should be exercised to ensure that the analgesic techniques do not deteriorate the
condition (e.g. hypotension with epidural, respiratory depression with opioids, renal impairment
with Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs [NSAIDs]).
The management options can grossly be categorised to:
1.Analgesic medications (Paracetamol, NSAIDs, Opioids etc.)
2.Regional analgesic techniques (Local Anaesthetics +/ Opioids)
Commonly, a combination of medications / local anaesthetic techniques is employed for safe and
effect pain relief. The World Health Organisation analgesic ladder was introduced to improve cancer
pain control. The concept is extrapolated to other pain conditions as well as the intensity of the pain
increases, the complexity of the interventions also increase.
1.Step 1: Simple analgesics (Paracetamol +/ NSAIDs)
2.Step 2: Weak Opioids (such as Codeine) +/ Simple analgesics
3.Step 3: Stronger Opioids (such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
where nerves are injured), conventional analgesics may not provide satisfactory relief. The issue is
further compounded if the patient has past history of chronic pain. Regional analgesic techniques
(discussed below) can help. When traditional interventions fail, co analgesics such as
anticonvulsants (e.g. gabapentin), antidepressants (e.g. amitriptyline) or Ketamine (5 10 mg per
hour intravenous infusion) may be used. It is prudent to seek help from the hospital acute pain
team prior to embarking on less conventional approaches to manage

The Effect Of Color On Testing Results
The Effect of Color on Testing Results Introduction Our experiment focused on testing scores.
We wanted to see whether the color of ink that was used on a test would affect a student s
performance on that test. We chose to conduct this experiment in the Sterling C. Evans Library to
get a wide variety of students to take the tests since it is the largest and most central library on
campus. We felt that this way the best way to attempt to limit the other variables that could affect
our results. Our hypothesis was that red ink would cause that student to do more poorly on the test
than the student would have done on a test with black ink. Our theory was that red ink would
remind students of wrong answers on previous assignments and create a feeling of stress and
anxiety. We attempted to answer this question by giving students of various genders, majors, and
ages a test of medium difficulty in red and black ink and analyzing the data to find out if their
scores correlated with the ink color. In order to determine whether there was a correlation between
ink colors and test scores, we measured the students number of wrong answers on the test, time
taken on the test, stress level, age, classification, gender, GPA, and college. We chose these
measures because they yielded numerical values that could be statistically assessed, and they
account for any other variables that might play into the correlation. We measured our results using
descriptive statistics, using numbers to

Essay On Juicing
The FDA daily recommended servings of fruits and vegetables is 2 to 4 daily. How many
upstanding citizens actually get that on a daily basis? Does a hamburger s tomato and lettuce
count? How about the salsa on a burrito? What actually counts as a serving? From personal
experience, the reality of our daily intake does not come close to 2 servings let alone 4.What if a
person s daily nutritional needs could be acquired with a glass of juice. Juicing is often regarded
as a fad diet, made famous by Dr. Oz and the Kardashians. When, in actuality, juicing is a holistic
way of curing ailments, detoxifying the body, as well as an easy means of getting the daily amount
of necessary vitamins to remain healthy. To begin with, juicing is a holistic way of curing ailments.

Not to mention raw juices are easily processed by the body compared to synthetic vitamins and
can prevent chronic disease more effectively when put up against supplements. Plus, juicing is an
easier and faster alternative to eating regular, whole fruits. Texture and taste can be off putting so,
if juiced, the taste can be masked by other fruits or veggies. To be concise, juicing is just as
healthy, if not healthier, than eating regular fruits and vegetables. It is a way of life that not only is
beneficial to your health but also to the well being of your mind. Through Dr. Max Gerson s
findings, it disproves the notion juicing is just a fad diet. Juicing has the ability to heal, detoxify
and deliver ample amounts of vitamins and nutrients needed in just one glass. So next time,

A Research On Climate Change
Research on Climate Change
1.Weather and Climate are two completely different earth behaviors. Weather is an occurrence
that happens to the atmosphere over a short period of time. For example in Indiana it may be
really warm one day, but the next day it could snow. Climate is an occurrence to the atmosphere
that happens over a long period of time. For example it has been show that over long periods of
time the earth seems to be warming more and more each year.
2.According to my research, many scientists believe that the earth s atmosphere is warming. Some
scientists attest the growing problem of global warming to the amount of greenhouse gases and
carbon dioxide that human beings emit into the earth a year (Begley). According to a new report by
the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change the earth s atmosphere, oceans, and lands are
experiencing a warming trend (Weatherwise). Many scientists agree that the earth s atmosphere is
indeed warming, however the cause of why it happening tends to be where many disagree.
3.Many scientists attribute the warming of the atmosphere to human activity. In the late 19th
century, some scientists discovered that temperatures began to rise, as a result of humans rise of
emissions of greenhouse gases (Marshall). A recent study conducted shows, that the rate at which
the earth is warming, is faster than anytime in the last 11,300 years, because of the CO2 emissions
are growing rapidly each year (Marshall). Scientists are worried that

The Importance Of Endangered Species
Many species are becoming extinct due to environmental issues, pollution, and change in habitats.
When an animal becomes extinct, it means the last of their kind has died many of these beautiful
and ravishing animals that reside in the world may never be seen again. The endangered species
that are still living do not have much of a future if something is not done about it. Humans are not
the only ones on the planet and as the human population goes up another species has been wiped
out of existence humans can fix what they started. Endangered animals is a topic that is overlooked
and needs to be addressed it needs humans full attention because they are the ones that can truly
make a change.
Animals that are endangered will be categorized on a sort of chart to see how much of their
species still lives. Endangered animals acquire many levels of extinction: near threatened,
vulnerable, endangered, critically endangered, and extinct in the wild ( nat geo ). The
requirements for an animal to be endangered and on the Red List is decided by the Conservation
of Nature where a huge portion of its population has been wiped out (Bove). The list consists of
animals like grizzly bears, bald eagles, and gray wolves. The IUCN predicts that body size and
geographic range size are important predictors of extinction risk. The endangered animals on the list
still have hope of getting off that list and repopulate their species they just need the help from
humans also.

Analysis of the Film Good Will Hunting Essay
Good Will Hunting is the graceful tale of a young gentleman s struggle to find out where he
belongs in the world, by first finding out who he himself is. In this film, Matt Damon takes on
the role of a disturbed genius that has a keen understanding of the deepness of human character.
The film is a voyage through the mind of Will Hunting as he is required to undergo
psychotherapy as an alternative to serving jail time. With the assistance of a psychologist, played
by Robin Williams, Will learns about himself and recognizes his individual worth in the world by
comprehending what is most important to him in his own life. This motion picture serves as a
source of superb example for film technique. Gus Van Sants directing ability joined with... Show

He is not wearing any masks because he feels protected in these situations. In the times where
Will is in a position where he is hiding inside himself, or he doesn t have that sense of security,
Van Sant does a very obvious color change to more colder hues, such as blue and white. This use
of color builds a feeling of manipulation and unease, being distant and unfriendly. One such
example is Will s first encounter with Sean, the psychologist. He is staring at a work of art that
is suspended on the window and as he is looking at it, he is examining its artistic worth and Sean
s life (Van Sant Bender, 1997). The nearer he gets to the image, the more frigid the light gets until
the conclusion of the monologue when he is directly facing it and the sunlight produces an
impression that is quite comparable to an overexposed photograph, which causes Will to look
especially bizarre, and terrifying. In this big moment, there is an entire change in mood within one
shot. The frigidness of the shot forms a sense of reckoning and the viewer can identify with how
Will lashes out when he is in circumstances he doesn t feel comfortable with. Furthermore, Vant
Sant makes statements which are just as strong through his use of camera angles and shots.
Together with the film s cinematographer, Jean Yves Escoffier, he creates a mise en scene which is
striking and powerful

Life Tables Of Gambusia Holbrooki
Discussion
In population Ecology, life history tables are very important, often times one is not able to
follow throughout the life history of a species of animal, let alone a series of animals. Life tables
allow scientists to be able to make predictions about not only a species population, but also how
well an organism in that species may survive. Life history tables allow others to be able to
understand more about the life of a certain animal. Whether that animal has a high mortality rate at
an early stage in life or whether an animal has a high mortality rate at a later stage in life, are
numbers that can be depicted within a life table. Gambusia Holbrooki was chosen for this life table
because it was readily available at Hennington ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

over to Hennington Pond on the Modesto Maidique Campus (MMC) of Florida International
University (FIU) in order to proceed with the sampling. After a quick survey of the surrounding,
the group was able to identify an optimal location to capture the mosquitofish. Multiple captures
were conducted with a large net in. As each round of captures were conducted, the fish were then
taken from the net and measured with a ruler in order to find out how big the fish was, in
millimeters. Any fish that measured less than 9mm would not be counted as one of the fifty fish
needed for the sampling. After 50 measurements of fish, the field portion of the experiment was
concluded. Materials were then returned to their proper location and the research was continued. To
find the age of the fish, the following formula was used:
Age = 8*(Standard Length) 68
The age class, sample/age class, number/age class, survival rate, offspring/individual, and age
weighted fecundity of each fish was then recorded using the functions provided on the table, which

Pros And Cons Of Human Biological Race
The question of whether human biological race exists has been a long debated, controversial topic
within the field of anthropology. There have been a number of obstacles that have prevented proper
research into this particular topic. For example, because of the potential social ramifications that
seem to accompany study into human biological variation, there has been hesitancy among
researchers in publishing material that could be interpreted as validation of racist ideologies.
Besides social considerations, another significant factor that has inhibited thorough research into
the topic is biotechnology, which has only recently become readily available and cost efficient.
Lastly, the mere definition of raceitself has caused difficulties in... Show more content on

This is not to say that genetic variation among populations is meaningless or insignificant, but it
does indicate that ideas surrounding biological race should be rethought as new information
presents itself. Because human variation cannot be neatly categorized into definite boundaries, the
question then becomes how should genetic difference be interpreted, if at all. In recent years,
researchers have begun to replace the word race with terms like clines or ecotypes. Unlike the
term race, which implies strict boundaries, clines is a character gradient that is continuous when
looked at through scopes like latitude or altitude (Pigliucci Kaplan, 2003). This definition is
preferred as it attributes a fluidity to genetic variation and can distribute individuals into a variety
of clines depending on the genetic trait being measured. In addition to clines, ecotypes have also
begun to gain popularity in contemporary human genetic research as well. Ecotypes can be defined
simply as local populations adapted to particular environments (Pigliucci Kaplan, 2003). The
concept of ecotypes aligns more so with traditional concepts of race, but with a few notable
exceptions. First, ecotypes allow for far more categorizations of human populations than the
traditional concept of race does. Furthermore, ecotypes take into consideration the genetic

will be controlled. The shrew turns out to be a woman called Katherina. I think he reason
Shakespeare has a women as the shrew is to prove that controlling women didn t get very far. It
was a male dominated world. Whilst reading the play we come to learn that the shrew is a lady

She has a sharp tongue and is not afraid to use it along with violence. She even goes as far as
hitting a lute over the lute teacher s head, in act 2 scene 1. However, after she marries Petruchio,
all of this changes. The fact that Katherina is the eldest gives her a sense of authority and so
when Petruchio arrives on the scene, in act 2, she finds it hard to get used to his domineering
behaviour. Also whilst he is trying to woo her he tries to use his male dominance to frighten her
by telling her he will cuff her but when she doesn t seem afraid he tries again to sweet talk in his
own arrogant kind of way. Petruchio makes known his power as a master in act 4 when he both
physically and verbally abuses his servants. He calls them insulting names like whoreson and
tells them they are flap ear d if they don t do what he says as quickly as he wants it done. During
his speech at the end of act 4 scene 1, Petruchio comes across as a very egotistical man who will
assert his maleness to get what he wants. He enjoys having power over everything he possibly
can, including his new bride. By the end of act 4 scene 1 he has already developed a master plan in
which he likes Katherina to be a wild hawk. He says that he will use the same method to tame her.

I Had Known George For As Long As I Could Remember
I had known George for as long as I could remember. Our families were good friends, our mothers
liked to gossip over stale biscuits and diluted tea and our fathers liked to go fishing during the
summer months and hunting in the winter months. We d always spend holidays together too. My
parents would host the Fourth of July barbecue and Thanksgiving and his parents would host

the times he threw mud at me when we were six or the time he pushed me through the ice when
we were ten or the time he locked me out of the house during a thunderstorm when we were fifteen,
it wasn t until he left that we fell in love.
George had been drafted in the war when we were 18, and while he was gone he wrote me
letters. Through the letters I saw a different side of George and I fell in love with him. He was
poetic and kind. We wrote letters back and forth for the entire two years he was gone and started
dating not long after he returned. And not long after we started dating, we were engaged to be
married. George had insisted we get married as soon as possible, we had known each other since
we were in diapers, why wait any longer? I had been so blinded with the new love, I had agreed. I
can t begin to explain how happy our mothers were when we announced our relationship, or how
elated they were when we announced our engagement. The wedding wasn t anything too

Four Factors That Affect The Overall Cost Of Cremation
There is a common held belief that cremation services are more affordable than funerals.
Cremation is often referred to as the low cost burial option. However, before you choose this
option for yourself, make sure you are aware of all the factors that can affect the cost of your
cremation. Here are the top four factors that affect the overall cost of cremation.
Factor #1: Transportation
After you pass away, your remains are going to need to be transported to the funeral home that
will take care of your cremation. Your remains will have to be transported from where ever you are
to the funeral home that you choose. If you are trying to plan your funeral and burial out in
advance, you are going to need to look into the cost of transportation for bodies.
These costs can vary, but generally the biggest factor that affects the price of transportation is how
far your body needs to travel. If you plan on having a local ... Show more content on

There are many different rules and choices that will affect the cost of storing your body.
To start with, most states require that bodies be storied a certain number of days before they are
cremated. These types of rules are in place to ensure that if there is an suspicion around your death,
an autopsy can be performed and the cause of your death can be found.
Next, if you have any medical devices inside of your body, such as a pacemaker, these medical
devices will need to be removed from your body before it can be cremated.
Finally, personal factors can affect your storage costs. If you want to haVe your body available for
viewing at your funeral, your body will need to be stored until your funeral and a casket will need
to be purchased or rented for the viewing. Even if you don t want a viewing at your funeral, you

However, Wal Mart maintained at a high inventory level which means that most of its funds are tie
to the inventory. So a high inventory turnover ratio of Wal Mart would be a good sign although it
has a low quick ratio.
In a word, these current ratio and quick ratio are all to test the liquidity of the companies which
refers to whether there are able to pay off debts and meet short term obligations (p118). Both
ratios of Wal Mart were lower than the Target Corp and the industry level, which means that the
ability to pay off debts and meet short term obligations of Wal Mart is not as well as Target Corp.

The Debt to Equity ratio of Wal Mart was relatively stable by comparing with the Debt to Equity

Suspense In The Movie Jaws
In April of 1975, Saigon, the South Vietnamese capital, fell. This triggered the end of the Vietnam
War, the only real defeat in American military history. Two months later, the movie Jaws was
released, and it was a smash hit, the first real blockbuster in the history of American cinema. The
success of the filmis of course related to the fact that it was based on a popular book, built
suspense like few if any previous films had done, and of course was marketed and released on an
unprecedented scale that led to a new trend among films. However, there are reasons that this film
was so successful in its time. In the wake of seeing the United Statesfail to stop the Communist
beast it had been fighting for over twenty years, Americans were looking... Show more content on

If this concept is carried out to its fruition, it would imply that in the context of history, the
government was trying to ignore a real threat to carry on the normal way of life and sustain a
sense of peace. In reality, the war is generally perceived as being the opposite: the government was
imagining the threat of Communism starting its spread in Vietnam and in the process taking over
the world, and in the process it must be stopped by military force, which means thousands of our
own people would die. The fact that the mayor denies the existence of the shark for so much of the
film that makes the connection to the Vietnam War hard to make. However, even though it doesn t
strictly fit with the allegory, thematically, the film still takes many cues from what happened in the

Gram Negative Streptobacillus Lab Report
Pseduo Aeruginosa
This bacteria is a gram negative, staphylobacillus (rod shaped) organism and arranged in a
clustered/colonial formation It is in my picture you can see that the bacteria all over is stained
pink meaning that the bacteria is gram negative because of the counterstain. It also has the shape
of a rod meaning that it is in fact bacillus. It was easy for me to find this bacteria and put it under
oil immersion to get a clearer picture. While checking google it is clear to me that my results come
out the way it should have. Meaning I successfully stained this slide without having any setbacks.

It is a little harder to tell the shape on this one because I didn t get a clearer picture under oil
immersion. But it is easy to see that this is stained pink, therefore it is gram negative. When
looking closer I think I can see some rod shaped ones mixed into the cocci shaped ones. I can see
that the cocci are arranged in a linked formation. While searching on the internet I can see that it is
usually gram negative streptobacilli. It could be the fact that I didn t get a clear enough picture or
my culture I sampled was too thick.
Unknowns
While looking at my two unknowns under the microspore and comparing them it was clear to me
that these two are not pure cultures. To my understanding a pure culture is comes from one single
parent cell. As you can see from my results one of my unknown s is Gram positive and one is
Gram negative, leading me to draw the conclusion that the unknowns are not pure cultures. I am
surprised that these were not pure cultures because these were taken from the same source using

My College and Career Choices Essay
What do you want to be when you grow up? Is one of the many questions that are asked by
teachers and adults. Through the research and development of this paper, I feel that I am finally
prepared to answer that question. College has always been in my plans but which college? Well, I
have it narrowed down to three excellent and well known colleges. OhioUniversity of Athens, The
Ohio State University of Columbus and Miami Universityare the colleges that I feel would
foremost prepare me to become an athletic trainer. My first collegechoice is Ohio University of
Athens; I think that Ohio University is a prominent university. Also, I like the rural location of the
college. This college provides the classes I need to pursue my career in... Show more content on

The Ohio State University (OSU) is my second college choice. Being a Buckeye has been a
dream of mine since I knew what college was, but with the research I have done, I do not like the
size or location of the college, however OSU does offer a really good athletic training program
and that s what interests me most about the college. College is not cheap or easy but it is
doable. Tuition for OSU is $11,285 per semester (collegecalc.org). With a larger college there is
going to be a larger enrollment number. According to (osu.edu) there is an average of 50,000
students enrolled at OSU. Having a large variety of choices in majors is convenient. A total of
175 majors are offered at OSU (osu.edu).The recommended ACT score ranges from 26 30
(osu.edu). Scholarships and financial aid are both offered at OSU. The scholarships offered at
OSU are various types of merit scholarships awarded to those students who qualify
(osu.edu).Financial aid at OSU is like other universities ,they have grants loans and work study(
osu.edu).Like Ohio University , OSU offers extracurricular known as intramural sports and many
other programs. Although it is not my first choice if I get the chance I would become a Buckeye.
Last but certainly not least, Miami University of Oxford, Ohio would be my third choice. Miami

Social stereotypes and Happiness
The Pursuit of Happyness

Social stereotypes and happiness
The story of the movie The Pursuit of Happyness directed by Gabriele Muccino portrays a family
who struggles with finding enough money to pay taxes and afford living expenses. The movie
takes a place in San Francisco during the 80s. The two main characters are the father Chris
Gardner and his son Christopher, Will Smith and Jaden Smith respectively. Gardner tries to support
his family. But every time he attempts to make things better, they always end up worse. Gardner in
the story wonders on how to be happy? He earns his money by selling the bone density ... Show

In another perspective, fatherhood for Gardner is like a job for him. Because he loses his wife,
he needs to provide joy, fun and help for his son Christopher which is not an easy job to do.
Those fathers, who spend more time with their children, have a better life than others who spend
most of their time working and gaining money. However, being a father as a single parent like
Chris gives him the enthusiasm to do his best and replace his wife s role to have a better life
with his son. Yet, this decreases the happiness that Gardner possesses. According to Scott
Coltrane, a sociologist at the University of California, points out that Father s style of parenting
has changed too. Fathers are beginning to look more like mothers (qtd. in Cullen and
Grossman). Before Linda leaves the family, she works double shifts to make more money to
afford the living expenses and to help her husband. So Chris is the one who takes more care of
their son than the mother, Linda. Gardner seems to be happier being close to his son. There are
many scenes in the movie that show how Gardner and Christopher are happy of being together.
Nonetheless, there is only one scene that Christopher not even misses his mother; instead he asks
did mom leave because of me? (The Pursuit of Happyness). This indicates that Gardner does a great
job of being a single parent that makes his son, not remembering his mother. For fathers, home

Why Do We Wear A Mask
I hope you guys are ready for a good start. Awesome! As you can clearly see, I am wearing a
mask, hiding my true face and feelings from the society. Who knows what pain and misery I am
going through in my life at the moment! However, who, after all, has not worn a mask on
occasion to conceal their frustration and disappointment? One particular group in our society who
were forced to wear a mask to conceal with true feelings about their situation, was African
Americans during the fight for civil rights. Although we can really not understand exactly what
these individuals went through, obviously we can relate to the concept of wearing a mask in that
we all have a façade that we wear in our daily life. Paul Laurance Dunbar, the son of a slave, has
written many poems to talk about white... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Black Americans were forced to wear masks to avoid showing their true feelings. Living behind
a mask is nothing but a disguise a disguise of hurtful truths that hid behind faces of African
Americans and that is not the way to live. As communicated through the people, African
Americans wore masks that grin and smile but behind all those grins and smiles, hearts are torn
and souls miserably tortured. Furthermore, the speaker tells us that wearer of the mask wants
freedom from the people who are full of guile and force them to wear mask just to lie. They need
to become free from all this mistreatment and discrimination. They want to have the same rights
and equality as the rest of the people in this world. It is important to note that when you
specifically know Dunbar s background, you are able to make this specific meaning about the
plight of African Americans, however this poem also has a universal nature. As we have already
established, we all wear masks at one time or another and so the feelings communicated by the
speaker of this poem resonate with

Sleep And Slow Wave Sleep Essay
improves procedural memory, i.e. skills and procedures [1,2] as well as declarative memory [3].
REM and slow wave sleep
(SWS) have been implicated in memory consolidation [3 5].
Lack of REM sleep is associated with poor recall of visual location [6]. Decline in declarative
memory consolidation is correlated with a decline in slow wave sleep [7]. Spencer et al. observed
similar initial procedural learning in older and younger adults; however, the older adults
performance did not improve following sleep, suggesting that sleep dependent memory
consolidation decreases with age [8]. This may reflect the disturbed sleep and disrupted SWS in
the elderly [3,8,9]. Slow wave sleep increases until shortly before puberty and then shows a
prominent drop across adolescence, decreasing by more than
60% between ages 10 and 20 years [10]. It is critical to understand the cognitive effects of normal
sleep in order to understand the consequences of disrupted sleep. This is important since the
majority of adolescents do not obtain the recommended amount of sleep and that disrupted sleep is
a key symptom in most adolescent psychiatric and developmental disorders [11].
Backhaus et al. studied twenty seven children with an average age of 10.1 years (range of nine to
twelve), on a learned word pairs list, employing a within subject design and two post learning
assessments. They found that declarative memory was significantly increased immediately after an
interval of sleep, as well as with

The Effects Of Gun Violence And Mass Shootings
Introduction As mass shootings have occurred in the United States the focus on mental illness
is held in account for multiple school shootings. Mentzl MacLeish (2014) share the diagnoses of
a gunman involved in the Sandy Hook elementary school in Newton, Connecticut, in December
of 2012. Adam Lanza, was diagnosed by media as having schizophrenia which he suffered from
and was not treated for. Lanza s crime which he committed was a mass murder of 20 children
and 6 adults with a semiautomatic weapon. It is reported on how mental illness had played in a
role with the incident such as this. Mentzl MacLeish (2014) share the links of gun violence and
mental illness are comparative in the aftermath of mass shootings due to psychiatric histories of

The Negative Effects Of Special Education In Schools
In the last 15 years, arts education programs have been under constant threat. Some blame this on
the No Child Left Behind law, passed in 2001, that placed focus on core subjects such as math or
language. Others point to the steady education budget cuts by each state. Whatever the cause,
cutting arts educationclasses affects every student but special educationstudents are the ones most
impacted. While it is well known that cutting these programs can have negative effects; some of
which are lower test scores, lower attendance rates, and higher disciplinary rates. What is less
known is the many ways the artsplay an important role in special education. Weather its intergrated
as part of classroom curriculum or taught separately it builds confidence, helps integrate them with
typically developing peers, enhances communication, and builds problem solving skills. All of this
in an environment that is the only place (in school) where uniqueness and individuality are
celebrated (Andrus 10).
The No Child Left Behind Act was intended to create equitable educational opportunities for all
students, and close achievement gaps among different groups of students (Spohn 3). Under this act,
schools would receive federal funding if their students tested proficient in math and reading. Their
test scores must also show adequate yearly progress. With such importance being placed on the
often standardized test, some districts are extending instruction time for tested subjects. To make

Lolo Loarlo Analysis
Sexuality plays a significant role in the novel. Be it Oscars inability to have sex, Yunior, the
narrators, constant search for a woman, the sexual abuse that Lola is victim of as a child or the
constant sexualization of Beli as a teen. In these cases, when analyzed, the reader can see that
the treatment or, mistreatment of these cases, is often transgenerational. Starting with Lola, the
sexual abuse she experienced was at a very young age, and when she tells her mother about it,
she is told that she must never speak of it again. This shame that comes with sexual abuse is
often repressed by families and victims alike. Lola refers to repressed memory as within a year I
couldn t have told you what that neighbor looked like, or even his name (Diaz 56). The way that
Lola was sexualized at such an early age, is the same way the she was sexualized on the streets of
Santo Domingo as a teen. Yet, Beli does not recognize these similarities. Often, young victims often
feel a sense of blame because of the shame that is felt by their families. The sexualizationof young
girl is not seen a major problem, that is because woman in the novelare disposable. It does not
matter if it the dominate Raffaele Trujillo, or the weak Oscar Wao, they all see women as the next
conquest, not matter how it is romanticized.
Beli is sadly seen as mostly a sex object. She never experienced true love. In fact, even many of the
descriptions in the novel explain men either trying or wanting to hit on her.

Interprofessional Care
Collaboration, within interprofessional teams, is fundamental in a maternity setting. The
framework of interprofessional care provides an avenue for women and their families, potentially
with complex needs, to receive holistic and individualised care (D Amour et al., 2009; The Royal
College of Midwives (RCM), 2014). RCM (2014) suggests that the responsibility of managing the
interprofessional relationships between specialist health care professionals, such as neonatologists,
belongs with the midwife. The reason for this is that the role of the midwife embodies the care of
women throughout their pregnancy, in order to create a level of continuity, in addition to
facilitating the client s primary care through the use of guidance and plans created... Show more

The incident occurred during an elective caesarean section, for a woman with type one diabetes
mellitus. Research has shown that maternal diabetes mellitus incurs an increased risk of neonatal
hypoglycaemia (Robson et al., 2014). In response to these findings, a neonatologist is required to be
present at the delivery of the fetus (Local Trust, 2015). Upon arrival of the neonatologist, a
thorough handover of the client s information, including past medical history, as well as neonatal
risk factors, was performed by the student. Following delivery, the infant was placed on the
resuscitaire and the initial neonatal assessment was completed by the neonatologist, as per Local
Trust policy (2016). The results of the assessment were satisfactory and no neonatal abnormalities
were identified; the neonatologist made the clinical decision to discharge the infant from the
neonatologists care. Within the subsequent ten minutes the infant s muscle tone and respiratory rate
reduced which prompted the student to transfer the infant back to the resuscitaire and raise the
alarm with the midwife, her mentor. The midwife proceeded to instruct the student to request a
neonatal emergency crash call broadcast. Once the neonatologist team arrived, they requested a
handover and glanced at the student, who at which point became flustered and unable to share the
necessary information, provoking the mentoring midwife to resume control of the situation. The
midwife was able to share the relevant information and subsequently aided the diagnosis of neonatal
hypoglycaemia. This was quickly treated and the infant was intubated and stabilised prior to being
transferred for further treatment and observation in the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU).
Subsequently, the student suffered a reduced level of

The Necessary And Proper Clause And Its Effect On History
The Necessary and Proper Clause and Its Effect on History The Constitution was written in order
to replace the Articles of Confederation and create a centralized government. Times continue to
change, and therefore laws must be altered such to keep up with those changes. This was the
sole purpose of the amending process of the Constitution. The purpose of the very first
amendment was to allow Congress the authority to get involved with state powers that was not
allowed at first. This article, Article 1, has been very controversial and confusing at times. It has
been a part of our judicial system in judgment of laws and their necessity and still affects us
today. Article I, Section 8 states The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties,

States. Overall, to make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into execution
the foreign powers, and all other powers vested by this Constitution in the government of the United

Training Is An Accurate Program For All Different People
FITT, SAID, and SPORT are all training regimens to provide an accurate program for all different
people, whether they are fit or unfit. All these programs show different qualities on what should be
expected, but the specific principles of exercise are progression, regularity, overload, variety,
recovery, balance, and specificity. (PowerPoint) According to the Physical Activity Guidelines you
are to do 150 minutes of moderate exerciseand 75 minutes of vigorous activity a week and 2 or
more days of strength training that works the 7 major musclegroups. Most people have different
reasons they work out, in the video some expressed doing it for their weight and health while
others said it brings them joy and peace of mind (Physical Activity Guidelines). This is important to
these training programs because not everyone is the same; therefore you need to base a program on
the individual.
The FITT principal describes how to safely apply principles of overload and progression and
stands for frequency, intensity, time, and the type of exercise (FITT Principle). These principles
are important, you need to have progression when you are in a program to be able to see benefits.
An example would be lifting 5 lbs. for a long time; you eventually need to either increase the
frequency, time, or intensity to start to progress. With progression also comes overload. Progression
of overload needs to be consistent and tailored to each client with the starting point of the training

Analysis Of Pope Francis Encyclical Laudato Si And...
Pollution, industrialism, and increasingly high levels of carbon dioxide emissions transform the
climate of the earth at a rapid pace. With increasing global temperatures and rising levels, and
myriad other effects, the future of the planet is cause for concern. Despite many willing voices and
hands, it can sometimes be confusing as to what one can do to help. However, Pope Francis
encyclical Laudato Si and Ellen Davis Scripture, Cultureand Agriculture, along with the writings of
other agriculturalists and voices of environmental advocates around the globe, provide insight into
this dilemma. Ellen Davis speaks to an idea of re membering : working toward re establishing a

Taking these into account, the voices of many communities will be included. If humans attempted
to solve the issues at hand within their bubble of technology, many details would be forgotten, and
different peoples would be left behind, and perhaps left worse off than before. This completely
neglects the concept of looking after those less fortunate and promoting the common good that is
essential to Pope Francis concept of integral ecology. Coinciding with this is the importance of
incorporating humanism into how we build cities and other societal structures, as we must consider
the setting, relationships, and preservation of culture while promoting sustainability and lessening
pollution. Attention to the common good, which is based on human dignity and living toward full
achievement by working together as a society, calls for care and concern for one another as well as
promoting peace and justice. By attending to the common good, we can attend to the plights of the
poor and prepare and nurture God s gift of creation for future generations, while answering his call
of caring for one another. Consequently, it is not only an issue of ethics, but also one of theology.
Moreover, voices that are not solely scientific must be listened to concerning matters of
environmental justice and protection. Re membering depends on the writings of many that may be
neglected or discounted: farmers, poets, geographic historians,

Relationship Between Rita Hayworth And Shawshank Redemption
In Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, the author Stephen King helps us understand
the characters through the development of the relationship between Andy and Red. Red first
glanced at the mysterious man who walked through the prison gates of Shawshank and saw a
man that didn t seem to belong on the inside of the prison walls. Andy had a certain way about
him, and Red was slightly intrigued the first moment they got in touch with each other in the
exercise yard of summer 1948 when Andy asked Red for a rock hammer. Andy didn t waste time
being social, I understand that you re a man who knows how to get things , he said. They
exchanged a few words and then Andy asked if he could get him a rock hammer. Red was quite
baffled from this request and asked what it was and why he would want it. A rock hammer
looks like a miniature pick axe, I want it because I like rocks Andy said. This shows us that Andy
is quite different and nerdy because he takes interest in little things that are part of our world
which wouldn t mean much to others in prison. They bent down and Andy started talking about
the different kind of rocks in the prison yard when Red mentions Sunday expeditions in the
exercise yard? Which he thought was a silly idea, however seeing that little piece of quartz gave
Reds heart a funny tweak. Red has been in prison for a very long time and Andy s odd knowledge
of rocks and associating the outside world struck Red a bit as no one in prison would really think

Introduction
Microsoft s business
As the most widely recognized company in the world, Microsoft dominated the home computer
operating system market with MS DOS and Microsoft Windows, a graphical extension for MS
DOS in 1980s.The company was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen and went public on March
13th, 1986 with the price of $25.75 per share. Since going public, the company s performance kept
being outstanding. Microsoft not only had a high level growth of revenue and operating income,
but also achieved this growth in really short period. The net income of Microsoft always grew

The first milestone is when the technological feasibility, whether the software can be produced to
meet its design specification, is established, and the second milestone is when the software product
is available for general release to customers. All developmental costs incurred should be expensed
before meeting the first milestone, capitalized between the first milestone and the second, and
amortized when second milestone is reached.
Microsoft argues that the time between the two milestones is usually too short for the company to
capitalize on any significant amount of costs, therefore Microsoft s policy is to expense all
research and development costs as they incur regardless of whether the milestones are reached or
not. As a result, Microsoft has relatively consistent annual expenses during its software
development process compared to companies that capitalize on costs after technological feasibility
is established. After the development process is finished, Microsoft s software will start to generate
revenue but will not appear on the company s balance sheet because no costs were capitalized.
To illustrate the impact of Microsoft s cost capitalization policy, consider a specific software that
takes three years to develop, its technological feasibility is established at the end of year two, and
the developed software will be on the market for two years. The following tables are created with
arbitrary values to compare two cases where

Birth Order Essay
Birth Order Families are the first system to which one belongs. Each person has his or her own
specific niche in the family. The order in which each child was born influences that niche,
therefore influencing who that person becomes (Collins). Whether one was born first, middle,
or last in reference to siblings can decide mannerisms that a person has, how far he or she goes in
life, and how he or she interacts with other people. An oldest is defined as the first born in a
family, first born of a certain gender, or a person whose closest sibling in age of the same gender
is five or more years older than him or her. They tend to be organized, responsible, scholarly, and
perfectionists (Lemain). Oldest children become this way because they receive... Show more content

Canada Citizenship Guide Essay
The official history Which guide does a better job explaining wars in Canada to an immigrant?
Canada is one of many countries that offer a citizenship to its immigrants. It is very important for
an immigrant to know about the laws, history, rights etc when they are becoming a citizen of a
country. Canadian government under the leadership of Stephen Harper issued a citizenship guide
for the immigrants called Discover Canada. And there s another guide that was issued by the ARP
Press written and compiled by many historians. While Discover Canada is the official guide for
citizenship but many consider People s Citizenship guide to be better than the official version.

The total people involved, important military leaders etc. Not exactly an immigrant would be
interested in the fact, it can be searched in the internet. What it could have rather talked about
was any sort of involvement of the immigrants at that time. In fact citizenship guide succeeded as
they talk very less about the world wars too. There s no mention of how many soldiers
participated in the wars and how many casualties were there. The only thing it actually mentions
is the how the Canadian government treated the immigrants in case a war broke out. In World
War I they violated the people s rights. The Germans and Austro Hungarian Canadians were held
in internment camps and the plight of Japanese Canadians in the Second World War was pitiful.
Even the birthright didn t help them as they were deported from their own country. They were
placed in internment and forced labour camps and their lands and things were sold kind of same
as it was done to the first nations people. They were sent back to a country that they had never
seen before and they never returned back to Canada which is sad.
In my opinion, people s citizenship guide did a great job by not depicting the cruelty of war in
Canada. It just informs about the citizens about the important things that they need to know about
the war. I know I have completely favoured the citizenship guide but I guess logically immigrants
don t really need to know about the wars that much. If they are curious enough there are many

Medical Experiments During The Third Reich
Have you ever heard of the Nazi Party led by Adolf Hitler, the Holocaust, or even the medical
experiments of the SS? Well, get ready to learn about it. Adolf Hitler was an anticommunist that
fought for Germany in WWI. He was the leader of the Nazi s. The Holocaust was a genocide in
which Adolf Hitler s Nazi Germanyand its collaborators killed about six million Jews. The medical
experiments of the SS were experiments performed by doctors on prisoners. During World War II, a
number of German physicians conducted painful and often deadly experiments on thousands of
concentration camp prisoners without their consent. Unethical medical experimentation carried out
during the Third Reich may be divided into three categories. The three categories consisted of
experiments aimed at facilitating the survival of Axis military personnel. The second category of
experimentation aimed at developing and testing pharmaceuticals and treatment methods for
injuries and illnesses which German military and occupation personnel encountered in the field.
While the third category of medical experimentation sought to advance the racial and ideological
tenets of the Nazi worldview (https://www.ushmm.org). Doctors have always been thought of as
the saviors of mankind, the healers, and caretakers of our utter existence. Even ancient
civilizations revered the medicine men as having special power to protect life. The trust of a
physician is sacred. This is why the practice of medicine by the

Classroom Inequality In Schools
Inequality is a constant issue in our world today in social and job settings. Many people across
the world have very strong feelings about inequality and it is becoming an important issue. What
some people do not realize is that inequality has entered schools. In all schools there are different
teaching and class levels, and many students are not getting an equal opportunity in order to be
successful in the future. In some cases, this is due to money problems; but in other cases it might
just be the schooland how it is run. Understandably, schools can not guide every student towards
success; however all students around the world are not given equal classroom opportunities in order
to be successful in their future.
Classroom opportunities are different all around the world and schools differ in the level of the
classes that are taught. Obviously, the schools in the United States do not get all the same
classes as schools in Europe. There are some schools in the world that do not let students take
the type of classes that is in the appropriate level or subject for their future. Fremont High, a
school in California, is one of these schools. One student was required to take a sewing class
when she wanted to take an AP class. (Kozol). AP classes and sewing or hairdressing classes do
not even come close to comparing level wise. Obviously, this student is being held back because
her school pushed her to take a class that is not equal to the level she could have been in. Not

How To Solve The Problems In Chelsea
Space, there is not enough of it in Chelsea, Alabama. Chelsea has many historical and old
buildings but some need to be torn down, or destroyed. Chelsea needs to keep some that hold

at conflict between tearing down the buildings or preserving the buildings. If Chelsea tears down

will cost some yes but it is worth it in the end. Chelsea needs to tear down buildings that are no

The problem in Chelsea is, Chelsea doesn t have enough space because the city has many historical

Interview With A Research Coordinator Essay
Analysis of an Interview with a Research Coordinator
Summary
This interview aims to help students understand the role of the research coordinator (RC) and
what it is like for that person to bring a large scale research project from conception to
completion. The interview participant has worked as a RC for many years and has a strong
background in statistics. According to the participant, an essential qualification for a RC is a solid
understanding of statistical concepts and analyses, and the ability to build on that knowledge and
apply it to statistical computer programs. This foundational knowledge is needed because a project
can involve a significant amount of analysis and coding from data. The participant s current research
project is a large scale project involving the implementation of public health policy for BC and
Ontario. This research is dynamic and challenging and always evolving, which requires the RC to
be flexible and adaptable. For many of the team members, this project is not a primary job;
therefore, it is important for the RC to find the balance between project deadlines and allowing
people to have personal time. Despite being the lead for this project, the participant shares decision
making with a variety of people and government agencies in both provinces, which brings various
levels of bureaucratic challenges, including gaining access to data. This and other logistical
constraints can make analyzing data and producing papers time consuming.

The Negative Effects of the Fashion Industry on Eating Disorders
While it s fashion week in London, the size zero models start to prepare for the big show by
purging to be as thin as possible. Most models starve themselves in order to achieve the waif ,
stick thin figure; it becomes so addictive, almost like second nature that it further leads to serious
eating disorders. From recent studies, today s model weighs about 23% less than the normal
woman. Clearly, most models do not depict the average woman. Men and women all over the world
follow the influences that the fashion industry provides. They believe that the fashion industry
depicts on what society should be acknowledged as, picture perfect thin. ... Show more content on

A large contributing factor to this problem is that many people in the fashion world encourage the
use of overly thin models in editorials and fashion shows. For example, as Kathryn Shattuck, What s
On Today: [The Arts/Cultural Desk], mentions that Kelly Cutrone, world renowned fashion
publicist, encourages, Clothes look better on thin people. The fabric hangs better (1). The fashion
industry s emphasis on being thin and its use of extremely underweight models in unacceptable.
Many people would agree that the fashion industry plays the majority role in eating disorders, but
Lisa Hilton, British Voguewriter, disagrees. Hilton argues, Its objective is selling clothes, and the
consensus remains that in order to achieve this, models need to be thin . . . Fashion is about
fantasy, about impossibility, about, dare we say it, art. Most women can t tell the difference (1).
Hilton condescendingly continues to refute the criticisms that models are too thin and the fashion
industry encourages eating disorders.
More recently, Sports Illustrated model, Kate Upton whom is a size 4, is now considered a plus
size model and deemed to be too curvy . In the United States the normal sized woman is between
the size of 6 and 10. Most of us do not understand why some put themselves through so much
anguish to satisfy these body image complexes. Back in the 1950 s, models were

The Importance Of Organising A Local Live Music Event
Four piece indie rock band The Reveurs reached out to promoters to assemble a live music event
celebrating the release of new single, Control. The process of organising a local live music event
involved various procedures, personnel, strategies and considerations. This document clarifies the
preparation of the launch, supported by industry resources and the development of accordance.
The project was conceived seven weeks prior to the event by headlining band, The Reveurs. Band
members had a preconceived idea of what they expected from the event. Due to the nature of the
event, it was most appropriate to book a promoter who would manage all elements rather than
paying a sizable fee to an event managementcompany. The promoter was expected to examine and
determine all of the clients requirements through briefing. Asking too few questions or not listening
adequately to a client s answers can compromise the success of the event you plan (Entrepreneur
Press, 2010, p.28). Arguably, the interaction between the client and the promoter is the most vital
due to the communication between the two parties being the starting point of the project. Various
factors were of greater importance such as the purpose and date of the event, whilst other factors
were subject to compromise. Any event serves to gather a crowd with a common interest and in the
case of a musical experience, the musicians serve to entertain an audience. With regard to The
Reveurs single launch, the primary

  • 2. Modernity and Enlightenment in The Persian Letters by... Modernity and Enlightenment in The Persian Letters by Charles Montesquieu The Persian Letters (1721), a fictional piece by Charles Montesquieu, is representative of the Enlightenment, both supporting and showing conflict with its ideas. The initial perception of European people, in particular the French, is of a busy people with goals and ambition whose focus is progress; in this way they are able to gain knowledge a core foundation to Enlightenment. One particular section of the Persian Letters states that the revolt against the authorities was lead by women, who through reason, saw the inequity of their treatment and formed a voice. In Montesquieu s story, their decision to change tradition... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The thought was that human kind was emerging from an age of darkness into Enlightenment . This idea was focused around the advancement of scientific knowledge, the development of respect for humanity and above all, reason. People of this time believed that knowledge had to be earned and that through experience and observation, guided by reason, progress was inevitable. The idea of Enlightenment filtered its way into society and was became institutionalized. During this period, European traditions also came under the microscope and were challenged by many scholars and philosophers. Economical, social and political attitudes were studied and began to move away from negativity. People then focused on the positives of life and human nature. The monarch and general hierarchy of society was questioned and related back to natural intentions for mankind. Frenchmen felt enslaved by their current authorities and tried to overthrow them through the improvement of literacy, anonymous tracts and social exploration. As the focus of Enlightenment was on the natural law and order of the world, religious beliefs and especially Christian theology were a central topic. People of this age were trying to simplify common day human laws back to nature as it provided the basic metaphor for how mankind should live. • 4. Analgesic Pain Management MANAGEMENT OF ACUTE PAIN The choice of the pain management strategies depends on different factors including the site and the nature of the surgery, type and intensity of pain, co morbidities and the ongoing clinical condition of the patient. As described earlier, whilst satisfactory pain relief is essential for the recovery of the critically ill patients, care should be exercised to ensure that the analgesic techniques do not deteriorate the condition (e.g. hypotension with epidural, respiratory depression with opioids, renal impairment with Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs [NSAIDs]). The management options can grossly be categorised to: 1.Analgesic medications (Paracetamol, NSAIDs, Opioids etc.) 2.Regional analgesic techniques (Local Anaesthetics +/ Opioids) Commonly, a combination of medications / local anaesthetic techniques is employed for safe and effect pain relief. The World Health Organisation analgesic ladder was introduced to improve cancer pain control. The concept is extrapolated to other pain conditions as well as the intensity of the pain increases, the complexity of the interventions also increase. 1.Step 1: Simple analgesics (Paracetamol +/ NSAIDs) 2.Step 2: Weak Opioids (such as Codeine) +/ Simple analgesics 3.Step 3: Stronger Opioids (such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... where nerves are injured), conventional analgesics may not provide satisfactory relief. The issue is further compounded if the patient has past history of chronic pain. Regional analgesic techniques (discussed below) can help. When traditional interventions fail, co analgesics such as anticonvulsants (e.g. gabapentin), antidepressants (e.g. amitriptyline) or Ketamine (5 10 mg per hour intravenous infusion) may be used. It is prudent to seek help from the hospital acute pain team prior to embarking on less conventional approaches to manage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Effect Of Color On Testing Results The Effect of Color on Testing Results Introduction Our experiment focused on testing scores. We wanted to see whether the color of ink that was used on a test would affect a student s performance on that test. We chose to conduct this experiment in the Sterling C. Evans Library to get a wide variety of students to take the tests since it is the largest and most central library on campus. We felt that this way the best way to attempt to limit the other variables that could affect our results. Our hypothesis was that red ink would cause that student to do more poorly on the test than the student would have done on a test with black ink. Our theory was that red ink would remind students of wrong answers on previous assignments and create a feeling of stress and anxiety. We attempted to answer this question by giving students of various genders, majors, and ages a test of medium difficulty in red and black ink and analyzing the data to find out if their scores correlated with the ink color. In order to determine whether there was a correlation between ink colors and test scores, we measured the students number of wrong answers on the test, time taken on the test, stress level, age, classification, gender, GPA, and college. We chose these measures because they yielded numerical values that could be statistically assessed, and they account for any other variables that might play into the correlation. We measured our results using descriptive statistics, using numbers to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay On Juicing The FDA daily recommended servings of fruits and vegetables is 2 to 4 daily. How many upstanding citizens actually get that on a daily basis? Does a hamburger s tomato and lettuce count? How about the salsa on a burrito? What actually counts as a serving? From personal experience, the reality of our daily intake does not come close to 2 servings let alone 4.What if a person s daily nutritional needs could be acquired with a glass of juice. Juicing is often regarded as a fad diet, made famous by Dr. Oz and the Kardashians. When, in actuality, juicing is a holistic way of curing ailments, detoxifying the body, as well as an easy means of getting the daily amount of necessary vitamins to remain healthy. Not to mention raw juices are easily processed by the body compared to synthetic vitamins and can prevent chronic disease more effectively when put up against supplements. Plus, juicing is an easier and faster alternative to eating regular, whole fruits. Texture and taste can be off putting so, if juiced, the taste can be masked by other fruits or veggies. To be concise, juicing is just as healthy, if not healthier, than eating regular fruits and vegetables. It is a way of life that not only is beneficial to your health but also to the well being of your mind. Through Dr. Max Gerson s findings, it disproves the notion juicing is just a fad diet. Juicing has the ability to heal, detoxify and deliver ample amounts of vitamins and nutrients needed in just one glass. • 7. A Research On Climate Change Research on Climate Change 1.Weather and Climate are two completely different earth behaviors. Weather is an occurrence that happens to the atmosphere over a short period of time. For example in Indiana it may be really warm one day, but the next day it could snow. Climate is an occurrence to the atmosphere that happens over a long period of time. For example it has been show that over long periods of time the earth seems to be warming more and more each year. 2.According to my research, many scientists believe that the earth s atmosphere is warming. Some scientists attest the growing problem of global warming to the amount of greenhouse gases and carbon dioxide that human beings emit into the earth a year (Begley). According to a new report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change the earth s atmosphere, oceans, and lands are experiencing a warming trend (Weatherwise). Many scientists agree that the earth s atmosphere is indeed warming, however the cause of why it happening tends to be where many disagree. 3.Many scientists attribute the warming of the atmosphere to human activity. In the late 19th century, some scientists discovered that temperatures began to rise, as a result of humans rise of emissions of greenhouse gases (Marshall). A recent study conducted shows, that the rate at which the earth is warming, is faster than anytime in the last 11,300 years, because of the CO2 emissions are growing rapidly each year (Marshall). • 8. The Importance Of Endangered Species Many species are becoming extinct due to environmental issues, pollution, and change in habitats. When an animal becomes extinct, it means the last of their kind has died many of these beautiful and ravishing animals that reside in the world may never be seen again. The endangered species that are still living do not have much of a future if something is not done about it. Humans are not the only ones on the planet and as the human population goes up another species has been wiped out of existence humans can fix what they started. Endangered animals is a topic that is overlooked and needs to be addressed it needs humans full attention because they are the ones that can truly make a change. Animals that are endangered will be categorized on a sort of chart to see how much of their species still lives. Endangered animals acquire many levels of extinction: near threatened, vulnerable, endangered, critically endangered, and extinct in the wild ( nat geo ). The requirements for an animal to be endangered and on the Red List is decided by the Conservation of Nature where a huge portion of its population has been wiped out (Bove). The list consists of animals like grizzly bears, bald eagles, and gray wolves. The IUCN predicts that body size and geographic range size are important predictors of extinction risk. The endangered animals on the list still have hope of getting off that list and repopulate their species they just need the help from humans also. There are many causes that ... • 9. Analysis of the Film Good Will Hunting Essay Good Will Hunting is the graceful tale of a young gentleman s struggle to find out where he belongs in the world, by first finding out who he himself is. In this film, Matt Damon takes on the role of a disturbed genius that has a keen understanding of the deepness of human character. The film is a voyage through the mind of Will Hunting as he is required to undergo psychotherapy as an alternative to serving jail time. With the assistance of a psychologist, played by Robin Williams, Will learns about himself and recognizes his individual worth in the world by comprehending what is most important to him in his own life. He is not wearing any masks because he feels protected in these situations. In the times where Will is in a position where he is hiding inside himself, or he doesn t have that sense of security, Van Sant does a very obvious color change to more colder hues, such as blue and white. This use of color builds a feeling of manipulation and unease, being distant and unfriendly. One such example is Will s first encounter with Sean, the psychologist. He is staring at a work of art that is suspended on the window and as he is looking at it, he is examining its artistic worth and Sean s life (Van Sant Bender, 1997). The nearer he gets to the image, the more frigid the light gets until the conclusion of the monologue when he is directly facing it and the sunlight produces an impression that is quite comparable to an overexposed photograph, which causes Will to look especially bizarre, and terrifying. In this big moment, there is an entire change in mood within one shot. The frigidness of the shot forms a sense of reckoning and the viewer can identify with how Will lashes out when he is in circumstances he doesn t feel comfortable with. Furthermore, Vant Sant makes statements which are just as strong through his use of camera angles and shots. Together with the film s cinematographer, Jean Yves Escoffier, he creates a mise en scene which is striking and powerful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Life Tables Of Gambusia Holbrooki Discussion In population Ecology, life history tables are very important, often times one is not able to follow throughout the life history of a species of animal, let alone a series of animals. Life tables allow scientists to be able to make predictions about not only a species population, but also how well an organism in that species may survive. Life history tables allow others to be able to understand more about the life of a certain animal. Whether that animal has a high mortality rate at an early stage in life or whether an animal has a high mortality rate at a later stage in life, are numbers that can be depicted within a life table. After a quick survey of the surrounding, the group was able to identify an optimal location to capture the mosquitofish. Multiple captures were conducted with a large net in. As each round of captures were conducted, the fish were then taken from the net and measured with a ruler in order to find out how big the fish was, in millimeters. Any fish that measured less than 9mm would not be counted as one of the fifty fish needed for the sampling. After 50 measurements of fish, the field portion of the experiment was concluded. Materials were then returned to their proper location and the research was continued. To find the age of the fish, the following formula was used: Age = 8*(Standard Length) 68 The age class, sample/age class, number/age class, survival rate, offspring/individual, and age weighted fecundity of each fish was then recorded using the functions provided on the table, which the data was put into a table. • 11. Pros And Cons Of Human Biological Race The question of whether human biological race exists has been a long debated, controversial topic within the field of anthropology. There have been a number of obstacles that have prevented proper research into this particular topic. For example, because of the potential social ramifications that seem to accompany study into human biological variation, there has been hesitancy among researchers in publishing material that could be interpreted as validation of racist ideologies. Besides social considerations, another significant factor that has inhibited thorough research into the topic is biotechnology, which has only recently become readily available and cost efficient. Lastly, the mere definition of raceitself has caused difficulties in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is not to say that genetic variation among populations is meaningless or insignificant, but it does indicate that ideas surrounding biological race should be rethought as new information presents itself. Because human variation cannot be neatly categorized into definite boundaries, the question then becomes how should genetic difference be interpreted, if at all. In recent years, researchers have begun to replace the word race with terms like clines or ecotypes. Unlike the term race, which implies strict boundaries, clines is a character gradient that is continuous when looked at through scopes like latitude or altitude (Pigliucci Kaplan, 2003). This definition is preferred as it attributes a fluidity to genetic variation and can distribute individuals into a variety of clines depending on the genetic trait being measured. In addition to clines, ecotypes have also begun to gain popularity in contemporary human genetic research as well. Ecotypes can be defined simply as local populations adapted to particular environments (Pigliucci Kaplan, 2003). The concept of ecotypes aligns more so with traditional concepts of race, but with a few notable exceptions. First, ecotypes allow for far more categorizations of human populations than the traditional concept of race does. Furthermore, ecotypes take into consideration the genetic ... Shakespeare s Presentation of Power in the The Taming of the Shrew Power is defined as the ability to act or control, and it is evident from the title that a shrew is going to be tamed, i.e. it will be controlled. The shrew turns out to be a woman called Katherina. I think he reason Shakespeare has a women as the shrew is to prove that controlling women didn t get very far. It was a male dominated world. Whilst reading the play we come to learn that the shrew is a lady called Katherina, it is her rebellious and wild ways that get her this nickname. Also whilst he is trying to woo her he tries to use his male dominance to frighten her by telling her he will cuff her but when she doesn t seem afraid he tries again to sweet talk in his own arrogant kind of way. Petruchio makes known his power as a master in act 4 when he both physically and verbally abuses his servants. He calls them insulting names like whoreson and tells them they are flap ear d if they don t do what he says as quickly as he wants it done. During his speech at the end of act 4 scene 1, Petruchio comes across as a very egotistical man who will assert his maleness to get what he wants. He enjoys having power over everything he possibly can, including his new bride. By the end of act 4 scene 1 he has already developed a master plan in which he likes Katherina to be a wild hawk. • 13. I Had Known George For As Long As I Could Remember I had known George for as long as I could remember. Our families were good friends, our mothers liked to gossip over stale biscuits and diluted tea and our fathers liked to go fishing during the summer months and hunting in the winter months. We d always spend holidays together too. My parents would host the Fourth of July barbecue and Thanksgiving and his parents would host Christmas and Easter dinner. Every time our families got together, George would be there. From the times he threw mud at me when we were six or the time he pushed me through the ice when we were ten or the time he locked me out of the house during a thunderstorm when we were fifteen, it wasn t until he left that we fell in love. George had been drafted in the war when we were 18, and while he was gone he wrote me letters. Through the letters I saw a different side of George and I fell in love with him. He was poetic and kind. We wrote letters back and forth for the entire two years he was gone and started dating not long after he returned. And not long after we started dating, we were engaged to be married. George had insisted we get married as soon as possible, we had known each other since we were in diapers, why wait any longer? I had been so blinded with the new love, I had agreed. I can t begin to explain how happy our mothers were when we announced our relationship, or how elated they were when we announced our engagement. The wedding wasn t anything too extravagant. The movie takes a place in San Francisco during the 80s. The two main characters are the father Chris Gardner and his son Christopher, Will Smith and Jaden Smith respectively. Gardner tries to support his family. But every time he attempts to make things better, they always end up worse. Gardner in the story wonders on how to be happy? He earns his money by selling the bone density ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In another perspective, fatherhood for Gardner is like a job for him. Because he loses his wife, he needs to provide joy, fun and help for his son Christopher which is not an easy job to do. Those fathers, who spend more time with their children, have a better life than others who spend most of their time working and gaining money. However, being a father as a single parent like Chris gives him the enthusiasm to do his best and replace his wife s role to have a better life with his son. Yet, this decreases the happiness that Gardner possesses. According to Scott Coltrane, a sociologist at the University of California, points out that Father s style of parenting has changed too. Fathers are beginning to look more like mothers (qtd. in Cullen and Grossman). Before Linda leaves the family, she works double shifts to make more money to afford the living expenses and to help her husband. So Chris is the one who takes more care of their son than the mother, Linda. Gardner seems to be happier being close to his son. There are many scenes in the movie that show how Gardner and Christopher are happy of being together. Nonetheless, there is only one scene that Christopher not even misses his mother; instead he asks did mom leave because of me? (The Pursuit of Happyness). This indicates that Gardner does a great job of being a single parent that makes his son, not remembering his mother. For fathers, home ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Sleep And Slow Wave Sleep Essay improves procedural memory, i.e. skills and procedures [1,2] as well as declarative memory [3]. REM and slow wave sleep (SWS) have been implicated in memory consolidation [3 5]. Lack of REM sleep is associated with poor recall of visual location [6]. Decline in declarative memory consolidation is correlated with a decline in slow wave sleep [7]. Spencer et al. observed similar initial procedural learning in older and younger adults; however, the older adults performance did not improve following sleep, suggesting that sleep dependent memory consolidation decreases with age [8]. This may reflect the disturbed sleep and disrupted SWS in the elderly [3,8,9]. Slow wave sleep increases until shortly before puberty and then shows a prominent drop across adolescence, decreasing by more than 60% between ages 10 and 20 years [10]. It is critical to understand the cognitive effects of normal sleep in order to understand the consequences of disrupted sleep. This is important since the majority of adolescents do not obtain the recommended amount of sleep and that disrupted sleep is a key symptom in most adolescent psychiatric and developmental disorders [11]. Backhaus et al. studied twenty seven children with an average age of 10.1 years (range of nine to twelve), on a learned word pairs list, employing a within subject design and two post learning assessments. They found that declarative memory was significantly increased immediately after an interval of sleep, as well as with delayed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some blame this on the No Child Left Behind law, passed in 2001, that placed focus on core subjects such as math or language. Others point to the steady education budget cuts by each state. Whatever the cause, cutting arts educationclasses affects every student but special educationstudents are the ones most impacted. While it is well known that cutting these programs can have negative effects; some of which are lower test scores, lower attendance rates, and higher disciplinary rates. What is less known is the many ways the artsplay an important role in special education. All of this in an environment that is the only place (in school) where uniqueness and individuality are celebrated (Andrus 10). The No Child Left Behind Act was intended to create equitable educational opportunities for all students, and close achievement gaps among different groups of students (Spohn 3). The way that Lola was sexualized at such an early age, is the same way the she was sexualized on the streets of Santo Domingo as a teen. Yet, Beli does not recognize these similarities. Often, young victims often feel a sense of blame because of the shame that is felt by their families. The sexualizationof young girl is not seen a major problem, that is because woman in the novelare disposable. It does not matter if it the dominate Raffaele Trujillo, or the weak Oscar Wao, they all see women as the next conquest, not matter how it is romanticized. Beli is sadly seen as mostly a sex object. • 35. Interprofessional Care Collaboration, within interprofessional teams, is fundamental in a maternity setting. The framework of interprofessional care provides an avenue for women and their families, potentially with complex needs, to receive holistic and individualised care (D Amour et al., 2009; The Royal College of Midwives (RCM), 2014). RCM (2014) suggests that the responsibility of managing the interprofessional relationships between specialist health care professionals, such as neonatologists, belongs with the midwife. The reason for this is that the role of the midwife embodies the care of women throughout their pregnancy, in order to create a level of continuity, in addition to facilitating the client s primary care through the use of guidance and plans created... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The incident occurred during an elective caesarean section, for a woman with type one diabetes mellitus. Research has shown that maternal diabetes mellitus incurs an increased risk of neonatal hypoglycaemia (Robson et al., 2014). In response to these findings, a neonatologist is required to be present at the delivery of the fetus (Local Trust, 2015). Upon arrival of the neonatologist, a thorough handover of the client s information, including past medical history, as well as neonatal risk factors, was performed by the student. Following delivery, the infant was placed on the resuscitaire and the initial neonatal assessment was completed by the neonatologist, as per Local Trust policy (2016). The results of the assessment were satisfactory and no neonatal abnormalities were identified; the neonatologist made the clinical decision to discharge the infant from the neonatologists care. Within the subsequent ten minutes the infant s muscle tone and respiratory rate reduced which prompted the student to transfer the infant back to the resuscitaire and raise the alarm with the midwife, her mentor. The midwife proceeded to instruct the student to request a neonatal emergency crash call broadcast. Once the neonatologist team arrived, they requested a handover and glanced at the student, who at which point became flustered and unable to share the necessary information, provoking the mentoring midwife to resume control of the situation. The midwife was able to share the relevant information and subsequently aided the diagnosis of neonatal hypoglycaemia. This was quickly treated and the infant was intubated and stabilised prior to being transferred for further treatment and observation in the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU). Subsequently, the student suffered a reduced level of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Coinciding with this is the importance of incorporating humanism into how we build cities and other societal structures, as we must consider the setting, relationships, and preservation of culture while promoting sustainability and lessening pollution. Relationship Between Rita Hayworth And Shawshank Redemption In Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, the author Stephen King helps us understand the characters through the development of the relationship between Andy and Red. Red first glanced at the mysterious man who walked through the prison gates of Shawshank and saw a man that didn t seem to belong on the inside of the prison walls. Andy had a certain way about him, and Red was slightly intrigued the first moment they got in touch with each other in the exercise yard of summer 1948 when Andy asked Red for a rock hammer. Andy didn t waste time being social, I understand that you re a man who knows how to get things , he said. They exchanged a few words and then Andy asked if he could get him a rock hammer. Red was quite baffled from this request and asked what it was and why he would want it. A rock hammer looks like a miniature pick axe, I want it because I like rocks Andy said. This shows us that Andy is quite different and nerdy because he takes interest in little things that are part of our world which wouldn t mean much to others in prison. They bent down and Andy started talking about the different kind of rocks in the prison yard when Red mentions Sunday expeditions in the exercise yard? Which he thought was a silly idea, however seeing that little piece of quartz gave Reds heart a funny tweak. All developmental costs incurred should be expensed before meeting the first milestone, capitalized between the first milestone and the second, and amortized when second milestone is reached. Microsoft argues that the time between the two milestones is usually too short for the company to capitalize on any significant amount of costs, therefore Microsoft s policy is to expense all research and development costs as they incur regardless of whether the milestones are reached or not. As a result, Microsoft has relatively consistent annual expenses during its software development process compared to companies that capitalize on costs after technological feasibility is established. There s no mention of how many soldiers participated in the wars and how many casualties were there. The only thing it actually mentions is the how the Canadian government treated the immigrants in case a war broke out. In World War I they violated the people s rights. The Germans and Austro Hungarian Canadians were held in internment camps and the plight of Japanese Canadians in the Second World War was pitiful.
