California Craftsman Bungalow
The architecture of a time period may reflect more than just our personal style. The California
craftsman bungalow style house was named this because of its introduction to the United States in
California and abundance in California in the 1900s to the 1930s. Craftsman refers to the style of
house; whereas, bungalow references the features of the houseand overall use of the house. The
bungalow originated in India where it was as an alternative to tent living among English colonial
traders and officers. The houses were built from materials that were easily accessible on the site of
construction. California Bungalows are characterized by their built in cabinetry, large fireplaces,
dormers, deep eaves, covered front porches with, double hung... Show more content on

For example, the San Francisco Call wrote an article in about a widow named Bertha Bossel
who built a bungalow house in Berkley with the help of her son. She had been left a widow a
few years prior to her construction of the bungalow, and the only thing she had to support her
and her son was the cottage that she and her husband had built before his death. She picked up
many skills during the construction of the first cottage, and planned to build the bungalow
without outside aid. The author wrote about how Bertha built the house heedless of what the
neighbors may say. This indicates that Bertha did not pay attention to what her neighbors or the
public thought of her actions, implying that she did not care what they said about her actions
because she continued to construct the house. The description of her independent attitude is
progressive for that time period, empowering women because Bertha took on a traditionally
masculine roles and completed them as if it was in her nature. However the language the author
used to describe her and her actions in the article were patronizing. The author first introduced
Bertha by stating, with her soft white hands Bertha Bossel, a brave little woman of Berkeley,
has begun the erection of a bungalow on a lot she owns. The act of calling her brave, suggests
that being strong was out of her character because it was not in her prescribed gender role.
Additionally, describing her with soft white hands makes her appear delicate to the reader. The
adjectives the used to describe Bertha fit into traditional gender roles as an act to balance out the
traditionally masculine tasks Bertha fulfilled. For example, the author wrote with a canvas apron
to protect her from the rough timbers, and she smiles and tolls as she does it in order to describe her

Grey s Anatomy Poetry Analysis
Grey s Anatomy is a popular drama doctor show to this day. They had a music event episode
where everyone sang and they had two songs that display the symbolic cycle. Both pieces
compliment each other because of their similarities in the symbolic cycle, birth and death. The
visual display of the songs fit together because of the setting and how the music itself develops
throughout each song. These songs were chosen to be in Grey s Anatomybecause they illustrate real
life of losing someone and being blind to someone s pain they try to hide. In How to Save a Life
and The Story the composers develop the theme of life and death.
How to Save a Life takes place when surgeons are performing surgery on their close friend and
fellow doctor. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason Torres is performing this song is because she is in a coma and essentially her spirit
is singing to herself to make own self wake up from her coma. In the beginning since she is in a
coma, it represents death as she is at the end of the symbolic cycle, death. She starts by saying So
many stories of where I ve been which shows she has experience of life and she is at the west
side where she is an adult knowing everything. As Torres is singing, she is walking through the
hospital as she gets closer to willing herself to wake up. One of the reasons was her girlfriend,
Arizona Robbins, who loves her and she has her child Sofia to fight for. Her child, Sofia,
represents life and birth as she beings her symbolic cycle. Most of this song is about being
experienced as Torres says she has climbed mountain tops and swam all across the ocean blue
and by her saying this, she is motivating herself to wake up and be strong for everyone. Also she
talks about how everyone around her is ignorant. And all of my friends who think that I m
blessed, they don t know my head is a mess. No they don t know who I really am . This quote
from the song proves her point how no one realizes how much she has been struggling in her life
and how she has had that pain of experience and depression from everyone. The song starts the
same as How to Save a Life with a calm and softer beginning. As

A Comparison of Moral Conflict in Antigone and A Doll s...
Conflict Between Individual Morals and State Laws in Antigone and A Doll s House
Mother, should I trust the government? Or should I trust myself? This dilemma is a common one
in a great deal of literature. In Antigone and A Doll s House, the main theme is the question of
whether one should be true to oneself or true to one s state or society. Should Nora (in A Doll s
House) and Antigone (in Antigone) follow the rules and do what the state and society want them to
do or should they follow their own consciences? Both plays address the conflict between individual
morals and state laws, obedience and disobedience, and understanding oneself.
Antigone shows the contrast between state law and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the state and state laws to exist there have to be the people too. The state depends on the people
and not just the ruler.
Haemon: A one man state? What sort of a state is that?
Creon: Why, does not every state belong to its ruler?
Haemon: You d be an excellent king on a desert island(Sophocles page #).
Haemon questions whether Creon s judgements are correct or not (above). For Antigone the divine
law is what should be used instead of the state law, which is defined only by what the king wants.
Therefore should Haemon and Antigone oppose the state law? The king makes up the main part
of the state, and decides whether the laws he makes are fair, and do not object to these laws
otherwise he wouldn t be king. Some may think that it is wrong that people should oppose the state
s laws, and should just follow them, but then they will never get to have their own beliefs and never
have a better understanding of themselves in the end.
In Antigone there is the state and its laws, but in A Doll s House we see more of the society, and
the laws it enforces on the individual. The society s rules prevent the characters from seeing and
expressing their true nature. When Krogstad tells Nora that the law takes no account of good
motives, she cries, Then they must be very bad laws (Ibsen page #). This causes a problem for the
main female characters, in deciding if

Cloud Technology Case Study
SMEs missing out on benefits of cloud technology
Lack of understanding of benefits or accessibility massive barrier to entry
London, Date: Having completed research in the use of cloud technology by SMEs, cloud
application dashboard provider the business insights dashboard for SMEs, 9 Spokes has concluded
that the majority of UK SMEs are missing out on the potentially huge benefits of cloud technology
due to lack of time and understanding of how these can be accessed.

It s clear that while time is a huge problem, for those SMEs who can take the time to research and
implement such solutions, the knock on benefits are potentially enormous.
Demonstrating further how SMEs struggle with the use of new technology, 9 Spokes research
shows that additional concerns re cloud based apps include compatibility (77%), expense (76 ) and
poor usability (76%) of these services.
Says Mr Estall, This is unfortunate as many of the best apps have invested heavily in providing
user friendly, light touch solutions for SMEs that are scalable and flexible in terms of what they
offer, as well as their fee structure. For example, accounting packages can start as low as ВЈ10 per
month while some marketing/ analytic solutions provided their basic services at no cost.
While many SMEs (71%) turn to advisors to help them navigate these challenges, it s clear that
easily usable, well priced apps will have an advantage when engaging with SMEs. Importantly,
over half (54%) of SME decision makers say that personal experiences influence their choice of
business software or apps. As a result, solutions that gain the most SME users are those that tend to
have some overlap with personal use Facebook, Paypal, Twitter, Google and Instagram.

Analysis Of Somaliland Announced s Secession From Somalia...
Somaliland announced its secession from Somalia in 1991 and has operated as a more or less
independent country ever since. It has its own president, parliament and constitution. It even boasts
a central bank that prints its own currency, the Somaliland shilling. The peaceful existence of its
three million mostly Muslim, but secular, residents contrasts sharply with the disorder and
instability of Somalia. The world, however, has refused to recognize Somaliland. Reluctant to
encourage other separatist movements, the West remains committed to supporting the embattled
Transitional Federal Government in Somalia, which opposes its separation.
Now let me talk about the Economy in Somaliland even though Somaliland is not totally
independent country and still share a lot with Somalia when it comes to economy. In this paper I
will concentrate four aspects that s makes Somaliland economy weak or low.
Certification
Somaliland government does not have the capacity to participate in certification schemes or to
provide authenticity documentation that would enable businesses to sell goods globally. Firms
instead have to find unconventional, and often costly, workarounds. Although sesame seeds are
grown in large quantities in Somaliland in 2012 the country was the 12th largest producer in the
world exporting them is challenge.
This means that the government of Somaliland loses money, because if the

Psychologist Jane Callaghan expresses that a positive body image doesn t rely solely on the
comparisons to other girls (Callaghan). Media images are only a tiny contributing factor
(Callaghan) to the development of eating disorders. Other forces include a genetic predisposition to
the mental illness, low self esteem, and societal pressure (Mayo Clinic Staff). Callaghan explains
that the development of eating disorders often relies on one s attempt to control these external
forces (Callaghans). Understanding that there are factors affecting ones body image other than
media exposure, Callaghan argues that attacking these external forces, such as peer pressure and
societal misogyny, could be more effective than eliminating thin girls from the fashion industry,
seeing as how medias perpetual portrayal of thin girls is not the main cause for the rising rate of

My Vision Is Turning Out At Michigan State University
My vision is turning out to be twofold because it concentrates in achieving an advanced degree
from Michigan State University. At this time, I am not sure what degree I will end up getting.
At one point it I was dead set on a law degree, but time and experience have taught me that I have
not found exactly what I am passionate about, but I do believe that I will find it with time. I do
know that I regret missing out on a traditional college experience and am now working toward
pursuing an advanced degree in the most traditional way possible. This means that I do not want
to work during the degree so that I can participate in graduate campus life and sports events.
Until recently, I never really wanted to go to college and maybe that is why I never really fell in
love a particular school and waited so long to get my undergrad. Now, I have fallen in love with
Michigan State over the years and truly want to experience everything that the school has to offer.
It is important to me to make the school my Alma matter. Additionally, the pursuit of knowledge
and achieving a post graduate degree has become incredibly important to me. It is my current
dream to become a master in a vocation that I am passionate about and that fulfills me. This is
why I have made the decision to wait on school at this time. Originally, I had wanted and hoped
that my graduate degree would lead me to my passion, but I now know and understand that for me
the right choice is to try and find my passion

Debunking the Goal Setting Theory
Debunking the Goal Setting Theory
Presented to

Andrea Smith
10/13/2014
Often times in the business world, organizations become so fixated on the goals they set, that when
they begin to go wrong, an organization will invest more into that goal instead of looking for a
different path. Oliver Burkeman s book, The Antidote: Happiness for People Who Can t Stand
Positive Thinking devotes a whole chapter to the importance or lack thereof of setting goals. In
his book, he tells a story of Chris Kayes who was on the foothills of Mt. Everest at the same time
the tragedy that took the lives of eight climbers depicted in the book, In Thin Air. Kayes observed
even through this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However on the flip side these same traits used to create a positive environment can also be used
to against the organization. We start with the letter S for specific as this commands that the goal
to be focused and attentive. Unfortunately though, this can actually cause a too narrowed focus
where employees will overlook important details of the task. With a narrowed focus, employees
become blind to everything else but their task and the often times miss a critical detail that could
potentially steer them into a new direction and a more profitable gain or prevent a fatal error from
occurring. An example in this can be seen in the automotive industry of late and the entire vehicle
recalls that have been made due to faulty engine or ignition parts that have caused human fatalities.
The automotive industry giants have a specific goal to create a top of the line vehicle fast and get
it out to the market that they continuously pass over safety issues and inspections in order to
accomplish this single goal. In keeping with the classic notion that you get what you reward (Kerr,
1975, 1995), goal setting may cause the employee to miss important aspects of their task or
performance that are not specifically outlined by the goal setting system.
Next we move on to the M for measurable and the hazards that can arise from putting a
measurable capacity on goals. Being able to measure progress is said to keep the employees on
track and provide

Essay On Irish Immigration To America
The mid late 1800 s, immigration is rampant within the United States, approximately 12,000,000
foreigners are attempting to enter the country, searching for a second chance or a fresh start ( Rise
of Industrial America, 1876 1900 ). Among the many nationalities immigrating were the Irish,
coming to the Land of The Free in an attempt to escape the famine, disease, and poverty that
lingered from the Great Potato Famine. The potential for a clean slate was so tempting that
between 1820 and 1930, as many as 4.5 million Irish came to America ( Irish Catholic Immigration

The answer can be simplified down to racism. Racism is a problem, it has always been a
problem, it will most likely always be a problem. The Irish dealt with extreme prejudice and
hatred when the arrived here, today the target of abuse are the Mexicans and Muslims. Two
peoples that merely did as everyone else did, they came to America looking for a second chance.
While yes, there is validity to the notion that terrorist attacks in the country have been caused by
Muslims, and that there are multitudes of illegal Mexican immigrants, that does not sanction
being able to discriminate against an entire population for the acts of some. To truly learn from
the heinous ways of one s predecessors, one must must go back and see what was wrong and
really make an effort to prevent it from happening again. We must go back and view the sins of
those who came before us and take heed of the lessons to learn, and be more tolerant and kind to
those around us, not judging based on race, culture, or ethnicity. We must learn to accept

Century ). Culture lends significance to human experience by selecting from and organizing it
(Rosaldo: 26). From this quote I am able to further understand how people define the term culture.
We all grow up with one or multiple cultures, but we all form them into something different. In
Rosaldo s article, he has a sectioned called Cultural Patterns and Cultural Borderlands, where he
uses dogs as an example to demonstrate how dogs are seen differently in cultures. Because the
range of human possibilities is so great, one cannot predict cultural patterns from one case to the
next, except to say that they will not match (Rosaldo: 26). Here Rosaldo is referring to two
completely different cultures, Anglo Americans and the Ilongots, but the truth is that everyone has
a different culture that will not match completely as it is seen with Barrio Boy by Ernesto Galarza
and A Place to Stand by Jimmy Santiago Baca.
In Galarza s autobiography there are many instances, especially toward the beginning of his writing,
where he writes about the culture and

Sonnet 95 Summary
In sonnet 95, the speaker depicts a paternal feeling while speaking to the addressee, where indeed
the poet reminds his audience about way appearance can be so deceiving. The young man is
relying on his good appearance to veil his sexual immorality. Being that he is handsome and
attractive, people are reluctant to disapprove his behavior. In the first quadrant, the poet employs
different stylistic devices, which include simile, as the young manis likened to a fragrant rose, and
on the other hand, he is compared to a destructive worm, but all his dark side of life is hidden under
his good looking and charming nature. What is important about this poem is the manner in which
the speakerreminds the young man about his bad behavior and draws examples that makes him feel
sorry about what he does behind his good looking nature. By the use of diction, imagery, diction,
images, metaphors and other figures of speech, such as tone of voice, allusions, syntax and
structure of the speech, the speaker warns the young man against his sexual immorality, and
reminds him that there are detrimental risks associated with his behavior if he does not change.
In the first quadrant, the speaker examines both sides of the young man s life where he looks at
the darker and better sides but most importantly demonstrating the way he misuses his good
looking ability to commit sexual crimes. However, the speaker does not condemn it openly but
appreciates his good look how sweet and lovely (1), but

Charles Waddell Chesnutt s The Wife Of His Youth
Charles Waddell Chesnutt was born in 1858 to two free born blacks with white ancestry, a
circumstance that caused him to appear more white than black. An analysis of his story The Wife
of His Youth , shows how much of an impact coming from a mixed raced family affected him.
During his time, those who were of mixed racewere called mulattos. Chesnutt s experience of
being a mulatto (which gave him the body of his work) made him question what really defined
someone s race, which he wrote about in many of his stories, like The Wife of His Youth. Having
a label for those in between white and black facilitated even more separation between people of
color and whites, because there was now a new group which did not entirely belong to either side.

During the ball that Ryder throws, the speaker states the importance this occasion held for
colored people: The occasion was long memorable among the colored people of the city; not
alone for the dresses and display, but for the high average of intelligence and culture that
distinguished the gathering as a whole (Chesnutt 1655). Having the guests consist of those who
were colored meant his confession of being married to Liza was showing other African
Americans to accept their identity and not try to be a member of white culture. This give more
importance to the scene, because Ryder is directing his confession towards the black audience
like Chesnutt was directing the story to the black community of his time. In his speech, Ryder
tells the story of him and Liza, keeping their identity a mystery; he goes on to ask if the man of
the story should acknowledge the woman after what she s done, which the audience agrees he
should. This public acceptance from the audience gives Ryder the confidence to acknowledge his
past and make it public for everyone to

The Economic And Political Environment During Early Post War
The source, spoken on the 5th June 1947, is an extract from an address given by the then
Secretary of State, George Marshall, outlining his and America s plan to provide substantial
economic aid to the European states, to help facilitate the rebuilding process in the continent. To
understand both the need and importance of Marshall s address in 1947, the economic and
political environment in early post war Europe the must be put into context. The Second World
War left the majority of European states in serious economic trouble; economies were suffering
with open and repressed inflation, disruptive food and raw material shortages , and the destruction
of industry from bombing left production stagnant, consequently leading to the collapse of trade
and widespread commodity hoarding in Europe. The political state of the continent was therefore
volatile, as Europe cooperation struggled deeply with an identity crisis and the Soviet Union
increased its sphere of influence across the East. If hunger, poverty, desperation and chaos were to
amass, the economic and political advantages of being allied with the continent would quickly
deteriorate and soon after Europe would become a serious threat to America. Therefore, Marshall
understood that European economic recovery was essential to the long term interests of the United
States and once becoming Secretary of State on 21st January 1947, he knew substantial plan of
American aid must be put in place. While Marshall gives his

Similarities Between The Glass Menagerie And A Dolls House
Realism is An attempt to reproduce faithfully the surface appearance of life, especially that of
ordinary people in everyday situations (Kennedy 2081). Realism is shown throughout the two
following plays. The Glass Menagerie is a play written by Tennessee Williams, and it was published
in the year of 1945. The play being compared is A Doll s House, written by Henrik Ibsenit was
published in the year of 1879. In A Glass Menagerie realism is shown through the fact that Tom s
familyis struggling with money. Tom can be seen as the protagonist of the story. Similarly, in A
Doll s House Nora s family was struggling with money up until this year. Nora can be seen as the
protagonist in this story. In A Doll s House the claims given about... Show more content on

(Isben 1606). Nora is not happy with where she is in the relationship. She is just being led like
cattle, but she is now leaving so she will not have to deal with it anymore. I m leaving right now
(Ibsen 1606). There are similarities and differences in these aspects between the two plays. Tom
in The Glass Menagerie is also sympathized for, but he is not the center of attention until the end
of the play. Laura and Jim are the center of attention. This is until the audience finds out Jim and
his girlfriend Betty are going to be married the second of June (Williams 1656). The tone in this
play can be seen as gloomy. Not one character in this play has found what they want in life. Tom
wants happiness, his mother wants a good man, and Laura wants a husband to love her. Tom in
The Glass Menagerie wants to better his career and life, and Nora in A Doll s house wants to
better herself and pay back the debt she owes to Krogstad. In the end they both achieve their
goal.In The Glass Menagerie Tom leaves to find a better life for himself, but he is then left with

Nonindigenous Species
The Great Lakes provide 20% of the world s fresh water source and are one of the most
profitable areas in the world. If we as a species want to benefit from the water supply we have,
The Great Lakes must be protected from threats such as invasive species, and allowed to flourish.
Although there a slough of invasive species, there are also proper methods for minimizing and
dealing with the invasive species and pollutants in the Great Lakes.
During the last two hundred years, invasive species have altered the Great Lakes ecosystem
Invasions by nonindigenous species are a leading environmental problem (Sala et al. 2000).
Intentional and unintentional introductions of nonindigenous species are therefore subject to
considerable environmental policy and regulation (Miller and Fabian 2004). . When an
environment is altered, the economy, health, and people around the area are affected Tampering
with an environment that is used for food, water, recreation and business can have great impacts.
The environmental and economic impacts of nonindigenous species has been closely studied, Alien
species are the second leading cause of extinction in the US and cost approximately $120 billion
annually. (Crowl et al. 2008). By changing our methods of shipping and transportation throughout
the Lakes, we would be able to cut back on this deficit.
One way that nonindigenous species are introduced to a new ecosystem is through transport in

logical reason to buy the product is drink Dr. Pepper TEN and you will be a manly men. The
only logical information is the number of calories and flavours in Dr. Pepper TEN. To stress that
the soda is not a diet one and still has calories, both Ten and 10 are mentioned. Pathos appeals to
the audience s emotions [1]. This commercial, as any other one, is full of pathos trying to sell

word women , which is highlighted, intensify the enthusiasm in an attempt to attack its audience

The Aspects Of The Moral Tales In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales
In the General Prologue of Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the Host instructs the pilgrims to tell
Tales of best sentence and moost solaas (GP 798). In other words, in order to win the contest, the
pilgrims must tell stories which both impart serious meaning/wisdom ( sentence ) as well as
entertainment ( solaas ). While the pilgrims all achieve these two goals to varying degrees, The
Pardoner s Tale seems at first to succeed very well in providing both moralteaching and
entertainment. However, while his tale effortlessly satisfies the solaas requirement, the Pardoner
cannot truly provide the sentence he aims for, as his lesson degrades into hypocrisy and he lacks
the respect from the other pilgrims necessary to afford his tale the impact he intends.
The Pardoner s Tale, an exemplum intended to demonstrate the phrase radix malorum est cupiditas
(greed is the root of all evil), tells of three riotoures (degenerates) who wish to find and kill Death.
(Pard 334, 463). A mysterious old mantells them that Death resides underneath a nearby tree, under
which the three men find a sack of gold instead. However the men do indeed find Death underneath
the tree, as they end up killing each other due to their own greed. This tale easily satisfies the solaas
requirement in its entertainment value. Firstly, the tale contains elements of mystery which make it
interesting. For example, the old man that points the three men to their demise is both
enigmatically old and inexplicably

Broadband
Basically, broadband is, kind of, like a catch all term that handled every kind of internet
connection that is not dial up and that is steady and constant. It was basically a way for internet
providers to differentiate between dial up, back when dial up was popular, and the newer DSL,
cable, FiOS; all kinds of, you know, newer networks that are just always on, always connected
and much faster than dial up. That s all it means. Basically, a way to describe how broad the
band is, that the data is being transferred on to your house or office. What made broadband so
amazing was, for the first time, you could use your computer and if somebody picks up the phone,
it doesn t ruin your connection. Also, you can leave your computer on all night to download files,
and the files get to your computer much faster. It also enables usages, like online gaming, or video

Reducing Costs through Production and Supply Chain Management by Vinod Lall
Executive Summary
There are numerous drivers of production and the supply chain, and there are several processes
under each driver. These processes are associated with high overheads and offer opportunities for
cost reduction. Cost reduction requires a complete knowledge and mapping of all costs, cycle
times, purchases, inventories, suppliers, customers, logistics, and other service providers
throughout the supply chain. Cost reduction in the supply chain often requires trade off analysis
amongst conflicting alternatives using the total cost approach. Successfully achieving supply chain
cost savings requires the use of cross functional teams with representation ... Show more content on

These include component commonality, component modularity, and postponement. Component
commonality: The principle of component commonality focuses on the design and use of common
components for families of products. When there are a large number of products in a supply chain,
the inventory of components will naturally be large. Component commonality calls for the use of
common components in a variety of products. This reduces costs not only by reducing inventory
cost but also through reduced material cost, reduced production cost, and reduced product
obsolescence. For example, a computer manufacturer can design common components such as
memory and disk drives and use different combinations of these components to produce different
finished products. Component modularity: The principle of component modularity recommends
that common subsystems be designed as modules to meet a broad range of feature requirements.
This reduces the number of components that must be produced, kept in materials and repair parts
inventory, and integrated into the product during the production process. This reduces procurement,
manufacturing, and inventory costs, leading to a lower supply chain cost. Manufacturers of
electronic products, for example, use the principle of modularity to design and assemble printers,
computers, and so on. Postponement: Postponement means delaying the bringing of products into
their final form until close to the point of

The Prison Within Overcoming fear
Overcoming fear introduction
There is a prison that has an inmate population in the billions. It s a prison without walls, without
barbed wire, without guards and without any physical barrier. But it is the most effective prison in
the whole world. Few escape it, but those who do find real and lasting freedom.
That prison is in our minds. It is a prison that holds back our initiative, our talent, our ability to
express ourselves and, most of all, it holds back the fulfilment of our full potential as human beings.
That prison is fear. Our lives today are controlled by fear more than we know. Fear controls the

Overcoming fear there s nothing to fear but fear itself
I m sure you have had an experience in the past when you really feared something. After doing it
how did you feel. Silly? Stupid? The feeling is often one of that wasn t so hard after all. I don t

Silence Of The Lambs Film Analysis
In the film of The Silence of the Lambs, Dr. Hannibal Lecter is a psychiatric doctor who eats the
organs of his patients and others. Clarice Starling interviewed Dr. Hannibal Lecter to help her
capture Buffalo Bill who is known for skinning young women. Film devices and techniques are
important because it helps build suspense. The film techniquesin The Silence of the Lambshelp
contribute to the element of suspense and horror. First, film devices and techniques in the scene
where Buffalo Bill tortures Catherine Martin who is in the hole of Bill s house help support the
element of suspense and horror. The first film device portrayed in this scene is the camera
angles. It used a high and low camera angles. The low camera angle faced downwards when it is
showing Catherine Martin making her seem small and weak. However, the high camera angle
shows Buffalo Bill being seen at the top of the hole in the basement as he is looking down on
Catherine Martin. This illustrates the power Buffalo Bill has over Catherine Martin as he laughs
and tortures her. Another film device that is used in this scene is the sound. At the end of the
scene, a strange music soundtrack plays in the background when Catherine Martin sees blood
marks on the wall and screams out of fear. Buffalo Bill mocks her screams and movements which
scares her even more. The third film device is the lighting. In the scene, Catherine Martin has no
light in the hole making it dark and dull which makes it spooky. As soon as Buffalo Bill lowers
the basket, the light captures Catherine s face as she sees the bloody marks of other victims who
tried to climb out the hole.Next, film devices and techniques in the scene where Clarice Starling
talks to Buffalo Bill about Fredrica Bimmel help support the element of suspense and horror. The
first film device portrayed in this scene is parallel action. At the beginning of the scene, the
camera switches from Buffalo Bill s house to where Mr. Crawford and the FBI investigators were
at. It is parallel action because it builds suspense and it makes sure the audience is aware that
Clarice Starling does not know that she is with Buffalo Bill. Another film device that is used in the
scene is a subjective shot. It shows

Mesopotamia, Egypt, And The Indus River Valley
Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the Indus River Valley were all civilizations situated near rivers. In
Mesopotamia, the Tigris and Euphrates rivers rose annually but were prone to flooding. In Egypt,
on the other hand, the Nile River had predictable flooding and was and still is the longest river in
the world. It was also easy to traverse due to southern wind patterns and northern currents. In the
Indus Valley, people lived near the Indus River, hence the name. Also, they were isolated,
surrounded by the Himalayas, just as Egypt was isolated, surrounded by deserts, mountains, seas,

In Egypt, the pharaoh served as God and king. The Sun God was the main God, leading to
discussion today over whether Egyptians technically practiced monotheism before the Hebrews.
However, King Tut later reverted back to polytheism. They had a main focus on the afterlife,
which explains why they mummified their dead. The people of the Indus Valley were
polytheistic and worshipped some female deities. Divisions in the land took place in each of
these three early civilizations. Mesopotamia was a loose confederation of walled off city states
each ruled by a king. Rivalry over land and water amongst these city states often led to violent
conflict. In fact, under the rule of the Assyrians, these walls were 5 to 7 stories high and a
hundred feet thick in some places. Egypt was not as divided as Mesopotamia and was ruled by a
pharaoh who served as God and king. The Indus Valley people were the first to use zoning, or when
certain areas are designated as residential, commercial, and for manufacturing. Unlike in the Fertile
Crescent, there was little indication of political hierarchy or centralized states. The Ziggurat, the
largest structure in many of the Mesopotamian city states, served as a temple or pyramid, while
many of the around 70 cities of the Indus Valley had citadels, or two story buildings with a bath on
top that represented a centralized authority. In contrast, the pyramids of Egypt showed job

The Modern Canadian Newspaper Industry
Pg. 1 The newspaper was invented to control and standardize information. It allowed rumours to be
separated from facts and provided hard evidence. The evolution of the newspaper caused fewer
companies to be in charge of press, resulting in biased information that lacked depth. The modern
Canadian newspaper industry is only owned by a few companies. This is caused by absent
alternative funding which influences market concentration, biased news coverage, and many other
negative effects. The news being published lacks diversity and becomes increasingly uniform.
Absent funding causes barriers to be broken between business and news, creating an industry that is
profit driven. This desire for profit creates monopolies and furthers the issue of biased media. It also
heightens competition between journalists and causes downsizing of newsrooms. Absent
alternative funding for the Canadian newspaperindustry leads to concentration of ownership and
influences news coverage to lack diversity. The lack of funding for newspaper companies causes
concentrated ownership and leads to biased news coverage. Media markets are inherently
concentrated, and to the extent that market profitability cannot accommodate sufficiently
competitive markets, absent alternative funding, the ensuing concentration levels may unavoidably
yield biased coverage. (Germano Meier 2012). When newspaper companies are lacking funding,
they may get replaced by bigger companies who have the money to stay in

Mr. Arend Lljphart Is An Author Of A Book Called Patterns...
Mr. Arend Lljphart is an author of a book called Patterns of Democracy. The book examines the
forms and performance of governments in thirty six countries. Patterns of Democracy is seventeen
chapters long. Below, there will be a critical analysis of a claim or a particular theory in the first
seven chapters on the merits of the claim or theory.
To start with, chapter one is an introduction to what is to come. It claims that two models of
governing the majoritarian model and the consensus model exist. In a majoritarian model, a
governing body will seek to satisfy a will of a bare majority or even a will of a plurality of a
governed body. Alternatively, in a consensus model, a governing body will seek to form a
consensus to fulfill the wishes of as many people as possible. Even in a democracy, it is possible for
a government to listen to the wishes of a minority while ignoring the will of the majority and
attempt to convince the majority that the minority has a point here.
Secondly, the title of the next chapter of the book is the Westminster model of democracy. As the
author noted, this is another name of the majoritarian model. It is unclear why the author felt a
need to dedicate a chapter to this. That said, he effectively gives three countries that fit this group.
Furthermore, the author listed ten characteristics of the model and how England, New Zealand, and
Barbados comply and deviate from the model as well as any qualification that needs to occur in the
group.

The Importance Of Gothic Litrature In Literature
Humans actually seek to be scared. Since 2005, the amount of money spent on Halloween has

According to the Allegre Ringos interview Dr. Ker Scare Specialist discussed that dopamine is

on the person since some people HATE the feeling of being scared or just arent interested in it.
People are sometimes fascinated with things that scare us like monsters or even death, since we
don t know what happens after we die. Rather some get scared from reading scary stories, as a
way to get scared without having to go out without to be frightened since the stories give us the

Three Types of Friends Essay examples
Through my experiences I have come to realize that there are basically three types of friends a
person can have. There are friends that I call sometimes friends, these people appear to be your
friend but only when you are face to face with them, and when you are not around them they act
more like a foe. They are often referred to as two faced or a back stabber. These types of friends
are not very reliable nor should they be trusted. Another type of friend a person can have, and the
best kind, is a true friend. A true friend is someone you know you can always trust and rely on no
matter what. The last type of friend is the acquaintance . These are the type of friends that you do
not necessarily hate, but at the same time you do... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These people are not very reliable and should not be trusted with things of a personal matter or
with things of great importance. You should confront this person and let them know how you
are feeling about the way they are treating you. Let them know how things look from your point
of view. If they are a true friend they will try to correct their ways and start acting like a real
friend would act. If they do not change their ways and they continue to take advantage of you, it
would probably be smart of you not to associate with them anymore. An acquaintance friend is
someone who you will usually encounter every so often for business needs or for some other
reason. You most likely are on good terms with these people, but they are not considered close
friends whom you would talk to about personal problems. They could be someone at the grocery
store where you shop at, the place where you work, the barber shop or salon where you get your
hair cut, or maybe the convenience store where you get gas at. They usually seem as if they are
good people and friendly. The acquaintance friend has the potential to become somewhat closer
over time if there are enough meetings between the two of you. Most friends that people say are
good friends were just an acquaintance at some point in time, but became closer as they got to
know each other better. Last,

  • 2. California Craftsman Bungalow The architecture of a time period may reflect more than just our personal style. The California craftsman bungalow style house was named this because of its introduction to the United States in California and abundance in California in the 1900s to the 1930s. Craftsman refers to the style of house; whereas, bungalow references the features of the houseand overall use of the house. The bungalow originated in India where it was as an alternative to tent living among English colonial traders and officers. The houses were built from materials that were easily accessible on the site of construction. California Bungalows are characterized by their built in cabinetry, large fireplaces, dormers, deep eaves, covered front porches with, double hung... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the San Francisco Call wrote an article in about a widow named Bertha Bossel who built a bungalow house in Berkley with the help of her son. She had been left a widow a few years prior to her construction of the bungalow, and the only thing she had to support her and her son was the cottage that she and her husband had built before his death. She picked up many skills during the construction of the first cottage, and planned to build the bungalow without outside aid. The author wrote about how Bertha built the house heedless of what the neighbors may say. This indicates that Bertha did not pay attention to what her neighbors or the public thought of her actions, implying that she did not care what they said about her actions because she continued to construct the house. The description of her independent attitude is progressive for that time period, empowering women because Bertha took on a traditionally masculine roles and completed them as if it was in her nature. However the language the author used to describe her and her actions in the article were patronizing. The author first introduced Bertha by stating, with her soft white hands Bertha Bossel, a brave little woman of Berkeley, has begun the erection of a bungalow on a lot she owns. The act of calling her brave, suggests that being strong was out of her character because it was not in her prescribed gender role. Additionally, describing her with soft white hands makes her appear delicate to the reader. The adjectives the used to describe Bertha fit into traditional gender roles as an act to balance out the traditionally masculine tasks Bertha fulfilled. For example, the author wrote with a canvas apron to protect her from the rough timbers, and she smiles and tolls as she does it in order to describe her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Grey s Anatomy Poetry Analysis Grey s Anatomy is a popular drama doctor show to this day. They had a music event episode where everyone sang and they had two songs that display the symbolic cycle. Both pieces compliment each other because of their similarities in the symbolic cycle, birth and death. The visual display of the songs fit together because of the setting and how the music itself develops throughout each song. These songs were chosen to be in Grey s Anatomybecause they illustrate real life of losing someone and being blind to someone s pain they try to hide. In How to Save a Life and The Story the composers develop the theme of life and death. How to Save a Life takes place when surgeons are performing surgery on their close friend and fellow doctor. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason Torres is performing this song is because she is in a coma and essentially her spirit is singing to herself to make own self wake up from her coma. In the beginning since she is in a coma, it represents death as she is at the end of the symbolic cycle, death. She starts by saying So many stories of where I ve been which shows she has experience of life and she is at the west side where she is an adult knowing everything. As Torres is singing, she is walking through the hospital as she gets closer to willing herself to wake up. One of the reasons was her girlfriend, Arizona Robbins, who loves her and she has her child Sofia to fight for. Her child, Sofia, represents life and birth as she beings her symbolic cycle. Most of this song is about being experienced as Torres says she has climbed mountain tops and swam all across the ocean blue and by her saying this, she is motivating herself to wake up and be strong for everyone. Also she talks about how everyone around her is ignorant. And all of my friends who think that I m blessed, they don t know my head is a mess. No they don t know who I really am . This quote from the song proves her point how no one realizes how much she has been struggling in her life and how she has had that pain of experience and depression from everyone. • 5. A Comparison of Moral Conflict in Antigone and A Doll s... Conflict Between Individual Morals and State Laws in Antigone and A Doll s House Mother, should I trust the government? Or should I trust myself? This dilemma is a common one in a great deal of literature. In Antigone and A Doll s House, the main theme is the question of whether one should be true to oneself or true to one s state or society. Should Nora (in A Doll s House) and Antigone (in Antigone) follow the rules and do what the state and society want them to do or should they follow their own consciences? Both plays address the conflict between individual morals and state laws, obedience and disobedience, and understanding oneself. Antigone shows the contrast between state law and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the state and state laws to exist there have to be the people too. The state depends on the people and not just the ruler. Haemon: A one man state? What sort of a state is that? Creon: Why, does not every state belong to its ruler? Haemon: You d be an excellent king on a desert island(Sophocles page #). Haemon questions whether Creon s judgements are correct or not (above). For Antigone the divine law is what should be used instead of the state law, which is defined only by what the king wants. Therefore should Haemon and Antigone oppose the state law? The king makes up the main part of the state, and decides whether the laws he makes are fair, and do not object to these laws otherwise he wouldn t be king. Some may think that it is wrong that people should oppose the state s laws, and should just follow them, but then they will never get to have their own beliefs and never have a better understanding of themselves in the end. In Antigone there is the state and its laws, but in A Doll s House we see more of the society, and the laws it enforces on the individual. The society s rules prevent the characters from seeing and expressing their true nature. When Krogstad tells Nora that the law takes no account of good motives, she cries, Then they must be very bad laws (Ibsen page #). We start with the letter S for specific as this commands that the goal to be focused and attentive. With a narrowed focus, employees become blind to everything else but their task and the often times miss a critical detail that could potentially steer them into a new direction and a more profitable gain or prevent a fatal error from occurring. An example in this can be seen in the automotive industry of late and the entire vehicle recalls that have been made due to faulty engine or ignition parts that have caused human fatalities. The automotive industry giants have a specific goal to create a top of the line vehicle fast and get it out to the market that they continuously pass over safety issues and inspections in order to accomplish this single goal. The Economic And Political Environment During Early Post War The source, spoken on the 5th June 1947, is an extract from an address given by the then Secretary of State, George Marshall, outlining his and America s plan to provide substantial economic aid to the European states, to help facilitate the rebuilding process in the continent. To understand both the need and importance of Marshall s address in 1947, the economic and political environment in early post war Europe the must be put into context. The Second World War left the majority of European states in serious economic trouble; economies were suffering with open and repressed inflation, disruptive food and raw material shortages , and the destruction of industry from bombing left production stagnant, consequently leading to the collapse of trade and widespread commodity hoarding in Europe. The political state of the continent was therefore volatile, as Europe cooperation struggled deeply with an identity crisis and the Soviet Union increased its sphere of influence across the East. If hunger, poverty, desperation and chaos were to amass, the economic and political advantages of being allied with the continent would quickly deteriorate and soon after Europe would become a serious threat to America. • 30. The Aspects Of The Moral Tales In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales In the General Prologue of Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the Host instructs the pilgrims to tell Tales of best sentence and moost solaas (GP 798). In other words, in order to win the contest, the pilgrims must tell stories which both impart serious meaning/wisdom ( sentence ) as well as entertainment ( solaas ). While the pilgrims all achieve these two goals to varying degrees, The Pardoner s Tale seems at first to succeed very well in providing both moralteaching and entertainment. However, while his tale effortlessly satisfies the solaas requirement, the Pardoner cannot truly provide the sentence he aims for, as his lesson degrades into hypocrisy and he lacks the respect from the other pilgrims necessary to afford his tale the impact he intends. The Pardoner s Tale, an exemplum intended to demonstrate the phrase radix malorum est cupiditas (greed is the root of all evil), tells of three riotoures (degenerates) who wish to find and kill Death. (Pard 334, 463). A mysterious old mantells them that Death resides underneath a nearby tree, under which the three men find a sack of gold instead. However the men do indeed find Death underneath the tree, as they end up killing each other due to their own greed. This tale easily satisfies the solaas requirement in its entertainment value. Firstly, the tale contains elements of mystery which make it interesting. For example, the old man that points the three men to their demise is both enigmatically old and inexplicably ... Cost reduction requires a complete knowledge and mapping of all costs, cycle times, purchases, inventories, suppliers, customers, logistics, and other service providers throughout the supply chain. These include component commonality, component modularity, and postponement. Component commonality: The principle of component commonality focuses on the design and use of common components for families of products. When there are a large number of products in a supply chain, the inventory of components will naturally be large. Component commonality calls for the use of common components in a variety of products. This reduces costs not only by reducing inventory cost but also through reduced material cost, reduced production cost, and reduced product obsolescence. For example, a computer manufacturer can design common components such as memory and disk drives and use different combinations of these components to produce different finished products. Component modularity: The principle of component modularity recommends that common subsystems be designed as modules to meet a broad range of feature requirements. This reduces the number of components that must be produced, kept in materials and repair parts inventory, and integrated into the product during the production process. This reduces procurement, manufacturing, and inventory costs, leading to a lower supply chain cost. Manufacturers of electronic products, for example, use the principle of modularity to design and assemble printers, computers, and so on. The film techniquesin The Silence of the Lambshelp contribute to the element of suspense and horror. First, film devices and techniques in the scene where Buffalo Bill tortures Catherine Martin who is in the hole of Bill s house help support the element of suspense and horror. The first film device portrayed in this scene is the camera angles. It used a high and low camera angles. The low camera angle faced downwards when it is showing Catherine Martin making her seem small and weak. However, the high camera angle shows Buffalo Bill being seen at the top of the hole in the basement as he is looking down on Catherine Martin. This illustrates the power Buffalo Bill has over Catherine Martin as he laughs and tortures her. Another film device that is used in this scene is the sound. At the end of the scene, a strange music soundtrack plays in the background when Catherine Martin sees blood marks on the wall and screams out of fear. Buffalo Bill mocks her screams and movements which scares her even more. The third film device is the lighting. In the scene, Catherine Martin has no light in the hole making it dark and dull which makes it spooky. As soon as Buffalo Bill lowers the basket, the light captures Catherine s face as she sees the bloody marks of other victims who tried to climb out the hole.Next, film devices and techniques in the scene where Clarice Starling talks to Buffalo Bill about Fredrica Bimmel help support the element of suspense and horror. However, King Tut later reverted back to polytheism. They had a main focus on the afterlife, which explains why they mummified their dead. The people of the Indus Valley were polytheistic and worshipped some female deities. Divisions in the land took place in each of these three early civilizations. Mesopotamia was a loose confederation of walled off city states each ruled by a king. Rivalry over land and water amongst these city states often led to violent conflict. In fact, under the rule of the Assyrians, these walls were 5 to 7 stories high and a hundred feet thick in some places. Egypt was not as divided as Mesopotamia and was ruled by a pharaoh who served as God and king. The Indus Valley people were the first to use zoning, or when certain areas are designated as residential, commercial, and for manufacturing. • 36. The Modern Canadian Newspaper Industry Pg. 1 The newspaper was invented to control and standardize information. It allowed rumours to be separated from facts and provided hard evidence. The evolution of the newspaper caused fewer companies to be in charge of press, resulting in biased information that lacked depth. The modern Canadian newspaper industry is only owned by a few companies. This is caused by absent alternative funding which influences market concentration, biased news coverage, and many other negative effects. The news being published lacks diversity and becomes increasingly uniform. Absent funding causes barriers to be broken between business and news, creating an industry that is profit driven. This desire for profit creates monopolies and furthers the issue of biased media. It also heightens competition between journalists and causes downsizing of newsrooms. Absent alternative funding for the Canadian newspaperindustry leads to concentration of ownership and influences news coverage to lack diversity. The lack of funding for newspaper companies causes concentrated ownership and leads to biased news coverage. Media markets are inherently concentrated, and to the extent that market profitability cannot accommodate sufficiently competitive markets, absent alternative funding, the ensuing concentration levels may unavoidably yield biased coverage. • 37. Mr. Arend Lljphart Is An Author Of A Book Called Patterns... Mr. Arend Lljphart is an author of a book called Patterns of Democracy. The book examines the forms and performance of governments in thirty six countries. Patterns of Democracy is seventeen chapters long. Below, there will be a critical analysis of a claim or a particular theory in the first seven chapters on the merits of the claim or theory. To start with, chapter one is an introduction to what is to come. It claims that two models of governing the majoritarian model and the consensus model exist. In a majoritarian model, a governing body will seek to satisfy a will of a bare majority or even a will of a plurality of a governed body. Alternatively, in a consensus model, a governing body will seek to form a consensus to fulfill the wishes of as many people as possible. Even in a democracy, it is possible for a government to listen to the wishes of a minority while ignoring the will of the majority and attempt to convince the majority that the minority has a point here. Secondly, the title of the next chapter of the book is the Westminster model of democracy. As the author noted, this is another name of the majoritarian model. It is unclear why the author felt a need to dedicate a chapter to this. That said, he effectively gives three countries that fit this group. Furthermore, the author listed ten characteristics of the model and how England, New Zealand, and Barbados comply and deviate from the model as well as any qualification that needs to occur in the group. ...
