Wildlife Biologist Career Essay
The career I chose was a wildlife biologist. Wildlife Biologists study the physical and behavioral
characteristics of wildlife, as well as human actions on animals and their ecosystem. The duties of a
wildlife biologist range anywhere from writing a report to collecting data by experimenting and
observing. For instance, a wildlife biologistmay have to collect data from observing animal
reproduction, interaction between species, and movement patterns. Other times, wildlife biologists
will spend time indoors writing papers that explain the data they collected, giving presentations, and
doing pre experiment research. Usually a wildlife biologist focuses on a specific type of species,
which can include marine mammals, insects, amphibians, reptiles,... Show more content on

The current demand for wildlife biologists isn t high, but in the future the demand will increase
due to human trends which include pollution, habitat destruction, and climate change. Although
more biologists will be needed in the future to study human impact on wildlife, the job
employment is only expected to increase by four percent (which is slower than usual) by 2024.
The term wildlife refers to birds, whales, gorillas, jaguars, rhinos, sharks, etc.. Like aforesaid, a
wildlife biologist typically specializes in one of these animal categories. However, choice may be
limited based on location. Coast states such as Florida, Texas, California, Alaska, Hawaii and
others tend to offer many jobs in marine biology. Other landlocked states may have jobs that
focus on land wildlife. Generally speaking, this career is available worldwide (including the
Galveston area), therefore it wouldn t be absolutely necessary to relocate. Beginners in the career
are likely to start off with a low position and once again, a low pay. Whenever a person has gained
experience in their position, they are likely to be promoted to a higher position with an increased

Chromatin Case Study Essay
Lessons Learned Chromatin Eric Lee January 21, 2015 Chromatin made a pivot from a pure
biotechnology company to a mixed model that combines both biotechnology and traditional
breeding pipelines. Thinking broadly (not just Chromatin), what challenges and opportunities does
making a strategic pivot present for an entrepreneurial company? The decision to pivot from a
biotechnology company to a more vertically integrated seed company was likely one of the most
important decisions in the history of Chromatin. By inserting itself into the multi billion dollar
market for sorghum, the company vastly increased its potential for profit. However, the leaders of
Chromatin certainly did not take the decision likely. As Prof. Copenhaver outlined in his January 14
lecture, a vast number of factors needed to be taken into account before transitioning into
Chromatin s current business model. In the case of scientific ventures, operating as part of a
university offers an array of benefits: they can rely on its well maintained laboratories, its legal and
bureaucratic expertise, and its established relationships with insurers, bankers, and licensing
agencies. However, in order to use these services, scientific entrepreneurs must give a portion of
their equity to the university, which can diminish the profitability and... Show more content on

Copenhaver and the leadership of Chromatin evidently felt that the company was capable of
functioning without university resources. Although the pivot presented numerous new
organizational issues, personnel changes, and procedural learning curves (essentially making
Chromatin s job much more difficult) it was in the long term interest of the company to make the
transition. Looking back, Chromatin s transition represents a successfully executed strategic pivot;
it considerably broadened the scope of the company s capabilities and redefined its target market, all
while maintaining continuity and coherence in the mission of the

Discoveries of Maria Montessori
2. What are the discoveries of Dr. Maria Montessori ?
Dr. Maria Montessori was a keen observer of children. She used her observational and experimental
proclivities from her medical background to develop, what we might today call, a Constructivist
understanding of the process of learning. She studied them scientifically. If she saw some unusual
behavior in a child, she would say, I won t believe it now, I shall if it happens again . She studied
the conditions in which the children would perform those actions.
She thought education always involved three elements: The learner, the Prepared Environment, and
the Trained Adult.
The basic areas in which she gave importance was freedom, independence, respect and
responsibility.
She believed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The inner drive to work is sufficient to reach their goal if it corresponded with the inner
developmental need. With the provision of the necessary conditions and necessary environment the
child without the instigation of an adult can reach his goal. 2. When an inner need to do something
meets with the inner urge spontaneous Interest is generated. When the inner urge or the Interest
finds a suitable working condition it leads to spontaneous Repetition. When this spontaneous
Repetition of an activity is done with interest the natural result is Concentration. Concentration is
not the end product of education, its just the beginning. Any true learning happens with
concentration. The children revealed that given the right conditions they would work with
concentration. 3. Very young children need order for their development. This order need not be
only with things in the environment but also with values, functions and other human activities. The
child needs to see human values like Say the Truth being practiced. But the adults do not practice
in the everyday life. The child gets confused and this can create a warp in his development.
Similarly any object in the environment being used for a purpose other than it is meant for creates
disturbance. (e.g. the other end of a teaspoon used as a screwdriver).Contrary instructions about
behaviour muddle his decisions how some action is allowed at some other time (for example. when

Should Video Games Be Considered Art Summary
Should Video Games Be Considered Art? Roger Ebert strongly expresses his opinion toward the
tense debate on weather video games should be considered art. He expresses his belief by
demonstrating in his article how video games could never compare to the amazing writers and
the incredible filmmakers (Ebert). Ebert envisions art being created by one person rather than a
team of people having skilled enough abilities to produce the same masterpiece. He does not see
a similarity in objectives between video games and an art piece. Ebert explains that in games there
are, Rules, points, objectives, and an outcome (Ebert). As for art, that is something he believes one
can t win. Considering one who believes video games can not be a form of art may

Analysis Of The Catcher Of The Rye
Two Worlds, Two Choices, Two Boys
In The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, Holden Caulfield struggles to leave the real world
around him which he constantly fails to fit in. He is expelled from three schools before going to
Pencey. He then leaves Pencey for New York before Christmas. After experiencing the coldness of
society in New York, He decides to hitchhike to the West alone, escaping the society and leaving his
family behind. Instead, he chooses to dream about living in the fantasy world in his mind where all
things he resists do not exist. Among those things he resists in the real world, the phoniness of
adults, the unavoidable loss of children s innocence and his unbreakable bond with his family are
the most significant ones that schedule Holden s canceled departure.
Holden is unwilling to get along with phonies at his schools. When Holden explains the reason
why he leaves Elkton Hills School to Mr. Spencer, he gives an example: For instance, they had
this headmaster, Mr. Haas, that was the phoniest bastard I ever met in my life (Salinger 17).
Holden finally drops out of Elkton Hills because of the phoniness of his headmaster even though
Holden has no direct contact with him. However, Holden s abhorrence toward phonies is so great
and evident that he cannot even stand watching a phony s action from far away. Holden originally
believes that changing to another school will reduce his interaction with phonies, but his thought is
proved wrong at Pencey. After

A Simulation Based On A Health Care Organization
This paper focuses on a simulation based on a health care organization that is having financial
problems. The simulation is based on a cardiac care hospital called Elijah Heart Center. The
paper discusses decisions that had to be made based on financial dilemmas Elijah Heart Center
is facing and how these dilemmas can be solved based on the decisions made in the simulation.
Phase I: Bridge a Working Capital Shortage The first option, I chose was to reduce agency staff.
These types of employees actually cost more money to employ because they are contracted with a
different company, so it costs more money to have them work for the company than regular
company employees. The Elijah Heart Center will find that not only will the organization save
money by not hiring contract employees but they do not have the expertise, training and
knowledge of company policies and procedures that regular employees have. The second option
that I chose was to change the skill mix. Employees who are untrained, unlicensed or have limited
expertise have to have duties that do not require special training or degrees. These employees can
concentrate of tasks that do not require much skill or training such as, feeding, bathing or
comforting the patient. This provides assistance to the licensed employees so they can better
concentrate on patient care without worrying about smaller tasks. This also benefits the heart
center by reducing the expenditure on employee salaries. This way they will

Sonnet 95 Summary
In sonnet 95, the speaker depicts a paternal feeling while speaking to the addressee, where indeed
the poet reminds his audience about way appearance can be so deceiving. The young man is
relying on his good appearance to veil his sexual immorality. Being that he is handsome and
attractive, people are reluctant to disapprove his behavior. In the first quadrant, the poet employs
different stylistic devices, which include simile, as the young manis likened to a fragrant rose, and
on the other hand, he is compared to a destructive worm, but all his dark side of life is hidden under
his good looking and charming nature. What is important about this poem is the manner in which
the speakerreminds the young man about his bad behavior and draws examples that makes him feel
sorry about what he does behind his good looking nature. By the use of diction, imagery, diction,
images, metaphors and other figures of speech, such as tone of voice, allusions, syntax and
structure of the speech, the speaker warns the young man against his sexual immorality, and
reminds him that there are detrimental risks associated with his behavior if he does not change.
In the first quadrant, the speaker examines both sides of the young man s life where he looks at
the darker and better sides but most importantly demonstrating the way he misuses his good
looking ability to commit sexual crimes. However, the speaker does not condemn it openly but
appreciates his good look how sweet and lovely (1), but

Restrictions On Law Enforcement Pros And Cons
The USA Patriot Act was signed into law on Oct. 26, 2001, citing the need for more cooperation
among all levels of security, along with broader powers for law enforcement personnel. Police and
other departments were given wider preemptive authority and encouraged to share information. The
goal: a safer America in times of international turmoil.
But as the years have passed and the terrorist attacks seem further away, people have begun to
question whether too many restrictions on law enforcement were rolled back. Recent news that
President Bush has authorized the wiretapping of some phone calls in the United States without
court orders upset many. While the government has defended these actions by saying that only
suspected terrorists were targeted,

When returning to work makes sure that it continues to play out and it would be best to not

Everyone takes that unexpected day off for mental reasons; it just cannot become a habit,
because that will be cheating the company. The boss may catch on also the coworkers, and the
person could be fired. Discuss possible explanations for the behavior using attribution theory
There can be many explanations for why an employee would call in sick to work when he or she
is not really sick. One reason could be explained through the attribution theory. The attribution
theory explains the behavior like this can be explained by attributing it to either the employee s
internal disposition or to an external situation. The employee s internal disposition could be that
the employee always seems to have a bad attitude to his or her job duties and that his or her
personality is pessimistic or lazy. The employee s external situation could be that he or she has a
manager who is constantly micro managing them, which makes them unhappy at work, or the
employee has a coworker who is their counterpart who is slacking at work. The employee may
have to work harder at the job than the other employee to get their collective tasks completed. This
may lead to the employee calling out sick because of his or her internal disposition they are just
lazy and do

United States And The Civil War
US Civil War
United States of America was formed as a result of the revolution that continued from 1776 to 1783.
After that, United States was divided into two wings/ parts that are the southern and the northern
parts. Then conflict between the two aroused because the northern and the southern societies were
totally different of each other in terms of economic structure, social class, politics and other social
matters especially slavery. The civil war, that started in 1861 and ended in 1865, was the result of
the unending conflict between the southern and the northern societies. The main issue that became
the cause of conflict was slavery and the oppression of the labor class in the southern societies of
the United States and the northern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, the southern societies comprised of best suited agricultural lands and had
complete hold on the agricultural needs of the states and also exported it to the European
countries. In this society, there was great racial discrimination. The whites were the owners of
the lands and they felt no need to establish the industrial culture because their lands were very
profitable for them. Another reason for this was that the owners did not work and had the slaves
that prepared the crop, harvested it, and supplied it to the markets. In short, slaves were
responsible for the take care of the crops and the owners treated them brutally. They tortured them
physically, emotionally, did not provide them with food and forced them to work all the time
(Boritt, 1992). They were also punished harshly for their little mistakes due to which many slaves
died as well. So there was great violation of labor rights and also human rights that triggered the
seeds of hate and rebellion. In addition to it, the northern societies also supported the elimination of
slavery.
Reasons of Inevitability of War
The US civil war was inevitable due to the three main issues that had created wide gap and extreme
stiffness between the two societies of United States. The most important of them was slavery. The
economy of the southern part of United States depended solely on the hard work

Dr. Stern Essay
In the initial portion of the film, Dr. Stern was not overly appreciated by his patients, because his
perception of himself got in the way of how others perceived him. Right at the beginning, the
movie addresses that Dr. Stern has five pairs of leather shoes, organized red ties and white dress
shirts, and reads the psychologist magazine with his morning coffee, which shows his personal
perspective a successful psychologist. So to prevent potentially losing patients, he listens, but does
not speak on how to treat them. This is shown when the final patient shown questions his inability
to help, and the length of the treatment, in which Dr. Stern states it ll work in due time.
Additionally, Dr. Stern tends to be very generic with his treatment: he repeats what his patient says,
and even asks the same questions to all of his patients, shown by the use of... Show more content on

Stern only has six more weeks to live, which leads him to being more honest with his patients, even
if it makes their views more negative towards himself. The feeling of inevitability makes Dr. Stern
have a more uncaring attitude towards his actions, leading to saying more brutal but truthful,
comments. Many patients smash his windows, and run out of the building in an initial surge of
anger, not initially realizing how important these comments are. But as the movie continues, the
film transitions to his patients accepting this new treatment from Dr. Stern, because it s changing
them for the better. This is shown when the gardener is waiting outside for a window to break, yet
surprisingly nothing occurs. Besides that, when this section of the film starts coming to a close, the
filming style slightly changes. You see Dr. Stern sitting together, in the same shot with his patient,
as he assists them to overcome their fears. This shows that Dr. Stern has partially dropped how he
wants everyone to perceive him, and is finally forming a bond with his

Cuban Culture Research Paper
Inside the Cuban Culture
When one thinks of Cuba, often a negative imagine comes to mind. This is no surprise, as most
accounts of Cuba that we hear are horrible atrocities of the government of Cuba. As with most
things in life, there is more than meets the eye with Cuba. At surface value, yes Cuba seems bad,
but that is just because of the way the Cuban government and countless political struggles that the
country has faced are portrayed. The Cuban people are actually a very proud people with a strong
culture. if you looked past the communist nature of the country, Cuba is a vibrant and colorful
place with a lot to learn about and a diverse culture to experience.

Families are very important to the Cuban community they are very close. They are so close that
they try to live close to each other. Since they are very family oriented and hard working people

could have a family they first must meet their significant other. Traditional dating for Cubans is
a thing in the past its not very common for males to ask for permission to date a girl. Instead
people are dating and being sexually active because religion isn t very important in Cuba waiting

other hand could wear a nice long sleeve dress shirt with slacks (Dating). Once a woman is
married it is her job to feed her household. Common foods eaten in Cuba are rice beans, sweet
potatoes, tortilla, and cornmeal. Most foods Cubans eat are locally grown which is very
common in Cuba because of its rich soil. Due to its rich soils tropical fruits are very easy to grow

Sociological Concepts In Sicko
Sicko, a documentary film by Michael Moore, describes the medical issue in which many people
who live in the United States have to suffer their sickness due to the high treatment costs. Many
people in the U.S. do not have health insurance because they can afford for that. However, not only
people that do not have healthinsurance but also the people who have health insurance struggle for
health care coverage when they have an illness. Moreover, compared to other countries such as
Canada, England, France and Cuba, American health care system is extreme complicated and
extremely expensive. To receive the treatment, patients in the United Stateshave to go through
multiple questions and processes, but there is no assurance that they will have the most effective

Rescission is an impressive term to describe the health care problem in the U.S. Many insurance
companies tend to looking for the reasons to cancel coverage after a person gets sick. The
difficulty is that people are overwhelmed with the long list of question and information before
registration or treatment. That small mistakes or lack information is hard to avoid will be the
reason for rescission. The film shows that insurance company have thousands of reasons to refuse
to provide coverage. The medical issues can be explained by the features of capitalism in the
United States. Capitalism is considered as an economic system based on production for profit.
While patients in Canada, England, and France receive free health care and many free services
from the government, people living in the United States has to pay a lot money for those services
from their pockets.
While doctors in England get bonus when making their patients live a healthy lifestyle to prevent

Discuss Why Hydrogen Bonding Is Essential for Life
Discuss why hydrogen bonding is essential for life
Throughout biochemistry there are many bonds without which life as it is on earth today would
not be possible. One of the most important bonds of these is the hydrogen bond, a weak chemical
bond that is present in essential biological molecules such as water and polypeptides. A hydrogen
bond is defined by Campbell and Reece as occurring when a hydrogen atom is covalently bonded to
an electronegative atom but attracted to another electronegative atom. In water molecules, there are
several key reasons why hydrogen bonds can be formed and explaining them in water a good way
to show the chemistry. Firstly, the presence of covalent bondbetween the hydrogen and the oxygen

For metabolic reactions this is very useful because it means that the enzymes can work at their
optimum temperature, often the same as 37C core temperature, and thus the metabolic reactions
within the body are very efficient. For every 10C below optimum temperature, the rate of
successive substrate enzyme collisions decreases by 2 to 3 times [Campbell and Reece, p862]. High
specific heat capacity also benefits marine environments by resisting temperature fluctuations,
which is perhaps why marine food chains are often many times longer than those of terrestrial
organisms.
The high heat capacity of water is one of several hydrogen bonding attributes that benefit the
marine environments, unsurprisingly, with the high surface tension and the small relative density
of ice also playing a large role in how aquatic organisms survive. The high surface tension of
water is perhaps best explained by relating it to close proximity of adjacent water molecules in
aqueous solution. This closeness is of course caused by the numerous hydrogen bonds (Fig. 2)
existing between the water molecules and is named cohesion, a word that can be defined as being
united as a whole.
Fig. 2 numerous hydrogen bonds
As a result of the molecules being united as a whole, the top of a body of water has a membrane
that is able to withstand a small downwards force before becoming pierced. The classic

Wgu Human Resources Task 1
Dear Mr. Smith,
Upon investigation in to the claim of constructive discharge under the Title VII Civil Rights Act of
1964 my research found this claim to be irrelevant and unjustified. A constructive discharge happens
when an employee is legally justified in claiming that he/she was forced to resign because the
employer has made working conditions intolerable.
In our situation a complaint was never filed with the company letting us know the employee was
unhappy or giving us the opportunity to respond to the situation. Therefore the company was
unaware of creating an intolerable working condition for that employee and we did not intentionally
do it. The company experienced growth so the production schedule changed for all employees. The

We would need to review and make sure that all the appropriate measures are being taken in a
timely manner if someone complains about their working environment. Specific steps and
procedures need to be followed to protect our company and our employees. In Pennsylvania State
Police v. Suders (2004) the Supreme Court found that in order to establish constructive discharge a
plaintiff must show that the environment was so intolerable that resigning was the only option.
But the court also found that the plaintiff failed to avail herself of the internal reporting
procedures as she resigned two days after mentioning harassment to an official. The case supports
our position of not guilty because the employee who is filing charges against us did not follow the
company s internal reporting procedures. This would have allowed us to meet with the employee
to see if we could come to an agreeable solution. Internal reporting procedures are there to protect
everyone involved.
My final recommendation would be to make a statement to the employee filing charges against us
to inform them know that we are aware of the Code of Federal Regulations (Guidelines on
discrimination because of religion, 2009) and that we are willing to work with the individual to
find a solution. If the employee dropped the charges and came back to work for us then there are a
number of accommodations we would suggest such as

Lydia Bennet
The Regency Era in England was an interesting period of time, ruled by elegance and etiquette
with definitive social classes. Women and men both wanted to marry rich, and this left some
young women hungry for a wealthy husband, or just a husband at all. This type of girl is
characterized in the novel Pride and Prejudiceby Jane Austen, through the character of Lydia
Bennet. She is the fifth Bennet daughter, automatically acquiring the title of the youngest Bennet
daughter. Her behavior is not tentative when it comes to interacting with men, and she is very naive
to the emotions of others. Through the use of the spoiled youngest child stock character Austen

marriage, she speaks with confidence when she says that her sisters should be jealous of her
marriage, and she wishes they have half [her] good luck in finding a husband (269). This
statement is extremely ironic, because Lydia s large ego inhibits her ability to see Wickham s
true character. She does not know how boorishly he acted towards Mr. Darcy, how much money
he lost gambling, or how hated he is in his home town. Lydia cannot make a clear minded
decision and evaluate how her elopement will affect family, let alone her own life. Pride also
gets in the way, and her childish mindset only see how eloping with Wickham will result in her
being the first Bennet daughter to marry, and in her mind, making her the best and most mature
Bennet daughter. Lydia will never understand the money and sacrifice it took for her uncle to

will never understand how miserable her life, and her family s life could have been if it weren t

The company is decentralized and each department is a responsibility center. A responsibility
center is a division of a company for which a manager has the authority to make decisions. The
main types of responsibility centers are cost centers and profit centers.
A cost center is a division of a company that is responsible for the keeping the costs as low as
possible. Cost centers contribute to a company s profitability indirectly like marketing, customer
service or research and development.
A profit center is a division of the company that is accounted for on a standalone basis for the
purpose of profit calculation. The managers of those profit centers have the decision making
authority related to product or service pricing and operating expenses. Therefore, the profit center is
responsible for making its own earnings.
The goal is to reorganize the allocation of costs so that each segment is profitable. The special
events target high rollers and should bring more money that they currently bring.
The Casino department should still be run as a profit center. Gambling is the largest source of
revenue for the hotel casino complex. The department manager controls the revenues by offering
special promotions and complimentary food, beverages and rooms in times of slow periods. The
manager is not only responsible for the profit generated but also for the costs.

Bandura s Social Learning Theory
Some of the things we overlook at times are the things that make the most sense in the world.
Something like the social learning theory was overlooked. But it has provided such great insight
as to why we do certainly in our lives. Bandura s theory has paved the way to many studies and
has open our minds to the possibility that we affect each other in a way we would not imagine. I
believe that this theory can shape a lot of people s lives. I agree with Albert Banduras social learning
theory by modeling and in this paper, I will present an argument that outlines the reasons why. I like
Bandura s social learning theory. The social learning theory states that Behavior...is learned of
other people...people who deviate from cultural norms have learned their behavior in the same
way. (Schultz Schultz, 2009, p.403 404). This theory can bring a lot of awareness to the
families who feel that their action or behaviors won t have any effect on the child. This theory
also holds a lot of substance. My cousin who is five years old is cursing and that is because of
his father who has no filter especially with the kids. He believes that they are too young and they
won t understand what he is telling them but in actuality, my cousin is modeling his behavior. I
feel if this theory is well known parents and another role model will understand how much power
they have over people. I agree with the social learning theory because I find that it holds some truth
to it. we may

Erik Von Willebrand Research Paper
Von Willebrand Disorder, abbreviated as VWD, is the most common inherited bleeding disorder.
Erik von Willebrand, a Finnish scientist, first discovered it in the 1920s. Carried on the twelfth
chromosome, von Willebrand causes excessive bleeding (National Hemophilia). Patients with
VWD form blood clots slower, resulting in prolonged bleeding. As a lifelong condition without a
cure, it can come with serious health hazards. Roughly one percent of the U.S. population, or one
out of one hundred to a thousand people, have this ailment. However, other bleeding disorders,
such as hemophilia, occur mainly in males, VWD affects both men and women equally. Despite
who it affects, the cause behind this disorder lays on the shoulders of one specific gene,... Show

The severity of symptoms does not depend on the type of VWD a patient has; although, the
intensity of signs does vary from person to person (Introduction). The most common sign of this
disease, excessive or abnormal bleeding, is often overlooked as a symptom. Abnormal bleeding
consists of: blood in urine or stool, bleeding from shaving with a razor or a comparable injury,
frequent and lengthy nosebleeds, bleeding from the gums, increased menstrual flow, and excessive
bleeding from a cut or following a tooth extraction or other dental procedures. Severe enough
bleeding can threaten a patient s life if doctors can control the blood loss. Though rare, internal
organs and joint damage can occur from serious bleeding (Facts about). Some patients may not
realize their condition until experiencing excessive bleeding after a surgical procedure or serious
trauma. Another sign, frequent and easy bruising, can come from minor bumps or injuries. These
bruises may develop small lumps under the skin. More severe symptoms include spontaneous
bleeding in both soft tissue and joints. Signs in women and men

Reflection About Globalization
Globalization is the expansion of global linkages and the organization of economic life on a
global scale. Looking back to when I was very young, globalization has impacted me in the sense
that I was learning two languages and associating myself with three different cultures. This is
because both my father and mother come from different countries and backgrounds, and my
father realized he would have greater opportunity studying in the United States being that it had
a better economy than Spain. As I grew up in Miami for the first 9 years of my life, many
cultures, traditions, and languages surrounded me. One of the main languages of Miami, and
my second language, is Spanish. I would say that if one does not know Spanish and is in Miami,
one is probably the not from there, because in Miami people will first speak to one in Spanish
and then if one looks unsure they will switch to English. Another significant group of people other
than Spanish speakers are other groups of the Caribbean Islands. Because there are people from
so many backgrounds in Miami the food is very diverse and authentic of many countries including
Cuba, Colombia, Argentina, and Jamaica. Having good friends from all of these places as a child, I
would delve into their cultureand foods and learn to accept their differences but also realize they are
not too different from our own. Although coming from different backgrounds my familydeveloped
many traditions that are not common in the United States but we shared with our friends, such as
eating the 12 grapes at midnight on new years, which is commonly a Spanish tradition.
As Miami developed and changed, my father s job changed too. My dad works as a pilot at
international airports, and he was first stationed at the Miami airport, which I would say is the
most hectic international airport I have been to. We moved to Fort Worth when they transferred
him to the DFW International Airport, in this move I realized the change in scenery and people.
Coming from a more southern and commonly polite background, people were not so
straightforward and rude as people in Miami were. Although my good friend group in Fort Worth
was very diverse, the area that I lived in mostly consisted of people from one

The USA used the Eagle as their unit, and Germany introduced the new gold mark, while Canada
adopted a dual system based on both the American Gold Eagle and the British Gold Sovereign.
Australia and New Zealand adopted the British gold standard, as did the British West Indies,
while Newfoundland was the only British Empire territory to introduce its own gold coin as a
standard. Royal Mint branches were established in Sydney, New South Wales, Melbourne,
Victoria, and Perth, Western Australia for the purposes of minting gold sovereigns from
Australia s rich gold deposits. The Gold Exchange Standard Towards the end of the 19th century
some of the remaining silver standard countries began to peg their silver coin units to the gold
standards of the United Kingdom or the USA. In 1898,British India pegged the silver rupee to
the pound sterling at a fixed rate of 1s 4d, while in 1906, the Straits Settlements adopted a gold
exchange standard against the pound sterling with the silver Straits dollar being fixed at 2s 4d.
Meanwhile at the turn of the century, the Philippines pegged the silver Peso/dollar to the US
dollar at 50 cents. A similar pegging at 50 cents occurred at around the same time with the silver
Peso of Mexico and the silver Yen of Japan. When Siam adopted a gold exchange standard in
1908, this left only China and Hong Kong on the silver standard. The gold specie standard ended in
the United Kingdom and the rest of the British Empire at the outbreak of

War The world s first global conflict, World War 1 (1914 1918), opposed the Central Powers of
Germany, Ottoman Empire, Austria and Hungary against the Allied forces of The United States,
Great Britain, Russia, France, Japan and Italy. World War 1 was significant because of the initial
appliance of modern technology into warfare; which consequently resulted in an unfathomable
amount of soldiers deaths and multinational collateral damage. Through the introduction of
multinational war, was the introduction of personal experiences and perspectives of all parties
included. Although we may never know firsthand of the emotional pressure and frame of mind of
the many individuals who endured the World War 1, we are fortunate in the amounts of historical
artifacts, including literature written during those times, to help provide the future with an
awareness and appreciation for those who sacrificed their lives for the world today. Two pieces
of literature which specifically explores the emotional impact of war is Katherine Mansfield s
symbolic work of literature The Fly: and W.B Yeats poignant elegy, An Irish Airman Foresees His
Death. Each piece of literature written during the first year of the post war era, are an impressively
intimate illustration of emotionally expressions and perspectives of the protagonists caused by the

The Underdog Plot Of Rudy
Rudy, based on the life of Daniel Ruettiger, is the quintessential underdog story. The Underdog
Plot is when the protagonist is at a disadvantage and the odds are clearly stacked against them.
The underdog is a person who is popularly expected to lose. In the case this person wins, the
outcome would be called a massive upset. Also, the Underdog Plot is a form of the rivalry plot;
in the Underdog Plot, however, the strengths aren t equally matched. This plot type is supposed to

WordPress is an open source platform. This means that the codes that have already been written
and used can be reused by developers without having to start from the beginning or modify. This
has given thousands of developers worldwide the avenue to develop themes, plugins etc, for the
WordPress platform. This saves them tremendous time since they are working on a foundation that
has already been laid. The more these developers develop WordPress themes and plugins, the more
popular the platform becomes.
2. Usability and simplicity:
WordPress developers may love WordPress development because of its Open Source nature, but
average users love WordPress because of its high user friendliness. For most other Content
Management Systems, you must, up to a good extent have basic technical knowledge to develop
and manage them. But that is not same for WordPress. It is very simplistic. You don t need any
technical knowledge neither do you need to understand programming language before you can use
it. It works on a principle of click and use, and drag and drop. Anyone can use it and use it quite
well.
Perhaps you want to add some pages to your website or change the theme or color, you don t need
to hire a developer or designer, as you may have to do with other CMS. When it comes to
WordPress, all of these can be done yourself with a simple click of a bottom. This saves precious

Freedom of Women to Be Prostitutes Essay
For centuries, women have been selling their bodies, in most cases prostitution, but it is not world s
oldest profession. Nevertheless, for as long as history states, prostitution has been around for as
long as the oldest professions in the world. Every aspect of history asserts even the slightest things
about prostitutionexisting. Prostitution has been a long term profession through out several
decades, whether it varies from being an adult star, escort, prostitute, a stripper etc... As long as
they pay their rights as a civilian of the country (taxes and such), they should be allowed to do

such ways that brothels were built in major Italian cities, which were government funded. The
Great Council of Venice even publicized prostitution to be absolutely indispensible to the world .
Over 1802, France, monitored brothels were created. The new agency monitored brothels on
whether or not laws were followed and no criminal activity took place. This was successful for
over a century. Up until 1971 Nevada legalized prostitution, even Nevada is not the most liberal

Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lebanon, the Netherlands, New

strippers. If for centuries it has been working out, there is no reason for prostitution to still be
illegal. See France in 1802, even back then monitored brothels worked out even for over a century.
With the security today and more advanced reasoning, people today are more than capable to make
things like that work. Even far back to the 18th century BCE, there was a code that honored

The way kids are raised by their parents effects their decision making and their values, beliefs

describe family relationships as being crucial in the development of the child. The article specifies
that two direct ways that kids are hurt is through family cohesion and subjective well being.
Family cohesion, in this article, is defined as the connections between family members that each
family has, while subjective well being talks about people s understanding of the life they live and
how they react to everyday situations and how all that effects their emotional and cognitive mind.
These two factors have shown to be directly correlated to children acting aggressively or
unpleasant, according to Hamama and Arazi. Children s aggression behavior includes three parts,
according to Hamama and Arazi. 1. A cognitive dimension hostility;2.an emotional dimension
anger; and 3. A behavioral dimension physical and verbal violence is how they defined aggressive
behavior. Those two factors are largely what influences children and their development, in Hamama

The Pros And Cons Of Entitlement Theory
Basically Sen (1981), founded Entitlement theory on the assumption that the system under
consideration is an economy with private ownership and exchange in form of trade, exchange
between people and production and between man and nature. However, he also accepted social
benefits as entitlement relations. The theory is useful to explain povertyeffects for different people at
household level with disaggregation of differences among the group in the population and people
even at the same household (Lenhardt, 2013). Hence, analysis using this theory implicates
resources allocation between households. Remittances being one external resources can have
effects in the final analysis using Entitlement Theory.
Ideally, there are strong linkages between poverty and environment also explicated in the
Entitlement Theory of poverty. Entitlement can be defined as collective outcome of environmental
resources package that the human capital used to produce, own and have power on that particular
resource as an individual or as a member of a given community or economic group. All have ability
to use those resources package ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It ignores cultural issues, which are similarly important with the legal system. However, entitlement
approach needs adjusting to new dynamics of contemporary analysis of poverty (Rubin, 2009).
In spite of those criticisms, the theory can be useful for analysing poverty and remittances
especially rural poverty since remittances are believed to be one of issues influencing entitlement
and ownership. Remittances can be used to buy assets. By owning assets, especially productive
assets, it increases chances for a individual or household to create wealth and it is widely agreed to
be a crucial factor in escaping and reduce chances to be trapped into poverty (Miller et. al.,

Mc Organic Acid
After exposing the sample to UV radiation the visible band is determine to be at the maximum
absorbance, as shown in Figure 1. This absorbance band at 563 nm and 579 nm corresponds to
the reaction SP в†’ MC. By monitoring the exponential decay function of MC, we are able to
construct a linear fit of the data, as shown in Figure 3, which confirms a first order decay. The
corresponding rate constants were determined from the slope of the fit, and it was found that as we
increase [SP] the rate is relatively constant. Further, this reaction was done on different solvents,
which includes acetone and cyclohexane. Following Table 2, it seems that with the addition of
cyclohexane, the rate of decay of MC is faster. This indicates that due to the non polar... Show more

With the inclusion of an organic acid, it protonates the MC to form MCH+. This compound itself
has a different absorbance band relative to MC, which was found to be around 408 nm in
acetone and 453 nm in cyclohexane. Because the reaction must follow this sequence MCH+в†’
MC в†’ SP, the corresponding rate of decay must be slower. As shown in Table 1 and 2, the
decay rate with the addition of TFA is significantly lower relative to just SP in the solution.
However, increasing acid concentration slows down the decay rate because more of MC is
being converted to MCH+. Ergo, it will have a longer process to convert all of the MCH+ back
into SP. Again, comparing the rate of decay of MCH+ at different solvents, it was determined
that the environment did not have a drastic effect on the conversion. In addition, the average of
the rate of decay was calculated for the first four samples and was found to be 0.00630 s 1 and
0.0243 s 1 for acetone and cyclohexane, respectively, which gave an error of 26.0 % and 40.3 %.
The inconsistency with these values was most likely caused by the insufficient time interval for the

The Impact of Charlemagne Upon Europe Essay
Charlemagne, or Charles the Great, reigned during a time of much turmoil and upheaval in Europe
during middle ages. Charlemagne s background and family history contributed much to his rise to
power. The triumphs of his past lineage prepared him to take on the task of governing the Frankish
Empire, and defending it from invaders. Charlemagneaccomplished much during his supremacy.
He not only brought education back into medieval Europe, but also invented an efficient way to

Charles Martel, or Charles the Hammer, considered one of the greatest to hold the title Mayor of
the Palace , succeeded the position in 732 (Abrams 186). He gained high admiration and respect
from the Frankish people for his feats against the Muslims trying to gain passage into Europe
(Abrams 186), and imparted much wisdom to an equally respected ruler, his grandson,
Charlemagne. By this time, the Franks thought of the mayors more as kings instead of stewards
considering that they had complete control over the empire and its people. Charlemagne s Father,
Pepin III, more commonly known as Pepin the Short, assumed the position of Mayor in 751 (Davis
54). During his reign, Pepin defended Rome against a barbarian tribe called the Lombards, which
strengthened the relationship between the church and the state that later would contribute to
Charlemagne s sovereignty as Holy Roman Emperor (Davis 54). Pepin died in 768, dividing the
now much larger Frankish empire between his two sons Charlemagne and Carolmen (Davis 54).
Carolmen died in 771 and left Charlemagne as the sole ruler of the Frankish empire (Davis 54). The
era when the mayors ruled the Franks up until Charlemagne s death acquired the title The
Carolingian Dynasty in Western Europe (Jenkins 123). From the passing of both his Father and
brother, Charlemagne continued into his kingship over the Frankish Empire.

Choose any episode or incident in Zen and the Art of Archery. Cite a passage or passages that
reveal an important point in the text central to our understanding of Zen. Identify clearly the issue
you are focusing on and make the case of its significance.
Eugen Herrigel spent five years studying kyudo under Master Kenzo Awa, unlocking both the skills
of archery and Zen. After nearly a year, Herrigel begins to practice loosing the arrow. Up until this
point, Herrigel had just let the arrow fly, paying no attention to the moment of release other than to

The more obstinately you try to learn how to shoot the arrow for the sake of hitting the goal, the
less you will succeed in the one and the further the other will recede. What stands in your way is
that you have a much too wilful will. You think that what you do not do yourself does not happen
(Herrigel 31).
In the quote, Master Kenzo Awa is channeling Mencius concept of original mind. Though the
master is speaking about the art of archery, his statement actually embodies the Zen principle of the
shoshin (similar to the original mind) and no thoughtness.
First, we must not forget that Herrigel is practicing one of the Six Arts, all of which require a
simultaneous embodiment of childishness and mastery. Shoshin is akin to the mind of a child.
The child recognizes its own ignorance and is more apt to learn from masters. The child,
understanding its ignorance, does not long for success when learning, but awaits more
opportunities to practice. Failure and success are both forms of practice to the child because they
are not attempting to be or create anything which can be regarded as pinnacle. Herrigel has lost
sight of the importance of failure and only looks to success he has forgotten that continuing to fail
in the pursuit of mastery spurs true enlightenment and learning. Unlike one possessing shoshin,
Herrigel neglects to realize that his repeated failures are not supposed to be a source of frustration,
but a source of character. Each failed shot is another chance to learn. Failure must lead Herrigel to
comprehend the depth of his own ignorance, or a state of shoshin, if he is to master

A battle lost or won is easily described, understood, and appreciated, but the moral growth of a
great nation requires reflection, as well as observation, to appreciate it. Frederick Douglass
When you think of slavery, you may want to consider the effects of an earthquake because that s
how powerful it was. Like many earthquakes, slavery produced various damaging ramifications
to everything around it. This included devastation to family structures and in worst cases the
loss of human life; and without doubt slavery claimed the lives of many just as Harriet Jacobs
expressed I once saw a slave girl dying after the birth of a child nearly white. In her agony she cried
out, O Lord, come and take me! Her mistress stood by, and mocked at... Show more content on

According to Frederick Douglass, it was the blood stained gate, the entrance to the hell of
slavery, through which I was about to pass. It was a most terrible spectacle. I wish I could
commit to paper the feelings with which I beheld it (p.4). Frederick Douglass and Toni Morrison
literatures examine the stigma of slavery, and the perceptions of its dangers. They illustrate what
life was like and the mental as well social impact it had on enslaved African Americans and their
life after gaining freedom. Richard Wright convinces his audience in Black Boy that he was tired of
the limitations and outcries in the South I was not leaving the South to forget the South, but so that
some day I might understand it, might come to know what its rigors had done to me, its children
(284). Alice Walker obtains her readers attention by transforming young women into their own
characters with a voice using spiritual guidance. In Native Son, Bigger has achieved is lost after
being apprehended and brought into captivity, as he transitions back into silence and passivity and
begins to recover only in his final confrontation, whereas Douglass in the same prevailing
convention, only heals after the regaining of his freedom. Through these literatures, and many
others, African Americans find multiple ways to alleviate and recover from the intensity of
undesired bondage and bigotry. In essence, Douglass born into

Business and Climate Change
В§ 1.0 Introduction
Although research on climate change is quite vague about the exact degree of warming and the
consequences for the natural environment, a wide range of impacts can be expected (Metz, 2011).
The temperature changes and the sea level rise, this has a negative impact on food production,
water availability, human health, biological environment and infrastructure in coastal areas.
Vulnerability is highest in poor countries where the changes will have a devastating effect. Metz
(2011) states that there is no escape from the conclusion that human beings are responsible. As a
consequence, the general opinion imposes responsibility for companies to put effort in ... Show

Furthermore, voluntary climate change policy will result in elevating UBS reputation (Hoffman,
2005). As stated before, a large percentage of society all over the world has concerns about global
warming. Different business units of UBS can benefit from this reputational aspect. First, private
investors who consider environmental strategies in making investments will prefer UBS Wealth
Management and Business Banking Switzerland above competitors such as Citigroup and Morgan
Stanley. Second, institutional investors as well as private clients will value UBS environmental
friendly reputation. Thirdly, UBS could broaden its scope by starting trading carbon credits. Their
reputation could help them compete with competitors such as Morgan Stanley that is active in
this are already. Besides their clients, UBS employees will be more motivated to work for a CR
company since they believe that companies should contribute to solve global warming problems.
Therefore, a green policy can increase the retention rates of skilled workers (Hoffman, 2005).
В§ 3.0 Method to implement green policy
To become carbon neutral, UBS could adjust their company activities or compensate their GHG
emission. Besides replacing business travel with videoconferencing, UBS could manage their
energy use more effectively with the aim to realize carbon neutral buildings. First, concerning their
buildings,

The Effects of Bad Parenting in As I Lay Dying by William...
How does a child feel when their parents conceive destructive values and manipulative
connotations? To any child a parent is the person that they look up to and in most cases look for
encouragement. However, some parents tend to value destruction and their own self gain more
than the life of their child. Both William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying and Toni Morrisons The Bluest
Eyedemonstrating a principle that when parents are bound to their twisted, manipulative, and even
immoral values that their children will ultimately be the ones to pay the price as they either
embrace the similar hollow values themselves or set out to fulfill their own desires through often
times self destructive means. In As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner... Show more content on

about Anse s needs. Jewel only cares about his needs and wants. Whereas, Anse only cares about
what he is going to get, not what Jewel wants. The same can be said for The Bluest Eye where it
is explained that, The lived there because they were poor and black, and they stayed there
because they believed they were ugly (36). Where the Breedloves live is considered ugly , thus
creating a destructive and negative value, which the children soon pick up on. Pecola for
example, knows that they live in a place that is considered to be ugly by her parents, so she feels
she is ugly and worthless. Parents sometimes manipulate their children to their whim, and in
doing so damage their family. Anse Bundren treated his children like farm equipment. For
example, he ignored Cash s broken leg, left Dewey Dell to deal with her pregnancy by herself,
robbed Jewel of his only treasure, and ultimately put Darl in a mental institution. His primary
goal is to get to town to find a new wife for example Kate says, Or if it aint her, he ll get another
one before contton picking (709). To me this is more damaging because Addie is not dead yet, and
they are already discussing the fact that Anse will find another one before too long. In The Bluest

From as long as I can remember I have always used the internet to do my book reports or any
other writing assignment that involved research. Anything that does involve online research it
only takes a minimum amount of time to find what you are looking for and incredibly easy to
find the answers to the questions one is looking for. Now a day s not only is it easy you have a
guide on your phone and computer such as Siri, Cortana and Bixby, to help you. All you have to
do is ask your device a question and they go through the web and find the best sites fitted to answer
the question asked or give the direct answer.
The problem with being able to easily obtain information is not knowing if it is true or not and
being able to separate opinion from fact that it has a credible resource to it, that is a disadvantage.
The reason it is a disadvantage is because when doing assignments and the directions ask for a
credible resource you don t want to put down just any resource that got looked up. The site used
needs to have an author or author s whose name can be credited for the information that was
borrowed to write the paper. If there was not an author on a web page that was used then one

How To Write An Informative Speech On Open Heart Surgery
We ve all heard of open heart surgery, but not all of us know exactly what it is, which is why I m
here to explain it. To start it off, heart surgery, according to MedlinePlus, is any surgery done on
the heart muscle, valves, arteries, or the aorta and other large arteries connected to the heart.
However, there is also open heartsurgery, which although sounds the same there are quite some
differences, for when doing open heart surgery, you re going to have to be connected to a bypass
machine during surgery, for your heart has been stopped because of it. Other than stopping your
heart, the bypass machine is able to give you the necessary oxygen that your blood needs, move
that blood throughout your whole body, and get rid of carbon dioxide.

Separating By John Updike And Alice Walker
Separating and Everyday Use are two short stories published by renowned American authors in the
mid 1970s. Although these works relate to two completely opposite topics of controversy in
American history, John Updike and Alice Walker both developed storylines that provide readers
with a keener sense of cultural understanding and include deep moral themes concerning the
magnitude of heritage and familyin one s life. Updike s Separating is a story about a couple s
struggle to inform their children of their decision to separate for the summer. Upon their oldest
daughter s return from England, the two arranged a homecoming meal; here, Richard and Joan
would have the opportunity to discuss the situation with all four children so that they might grieve
together as a family. In the presence of three of his children, Richard begins to cry; moved by
curiosity, they unearth his secret. Although the girls seem unaffected, the youngest sonfrantically
and drunkenly erupts; his father then removes him from the room and shares with him a deep,
rewarding conversation about his troubles. Later that night, the eldest son also returns. Dreadfully,
Richard retrieves him and apprises him of the situation; shocked, the son flees to his bedroom. The
parents enter the room and console their saddened son; when Richard is asked to explain the
reasoning behind the separation, he realizes he had forgotten. Walker s Everyday Use is a tale
concerning a mother and her daughter awaiting the

Dbq Middle Passage
Middle Passage Reflection Essay Triangular trade between Europe, Africa, and the Americas
spurred economic growth, increased intercontinental diversity, and was a prime example of a
globalizing world. It also spread and exacerbated the brutal and inhumane practice of slavery to
the Americas, where it took root and became a cornerstone of the American way of life for years.
The middle passage between West Africaand the West Indies was a voyage of misery, pain, and
illness for the slaves being shipped, and while their misery does not compare with that of the
enslaved, the journey was not pleasant for the white crew either. Conditions on slave ships were
miserable, and disease spread through the close quarters like wildfire. Document B starts to explain
the massive impact that disease had on ship dwellers. The document begins by simply stating the
death count on an average voyage from the first day when they buried 14 to the last when the death
count totaled 320. The document then goes on to identify and explain the causes of the high
mortality... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Document C explores how slaves were packed into the ships like animals and gives examples of
other ways African slaves were treated barbarically. Slaves were positioned to maximize potential
profit, being positioned so close as to admit of no other posture than lying on their sides . This
grossly unsuitable positioning created problems among the slaves themselves with slaves falling to
continual quarrels when they would stumble over each other trying to get to food. Due to these
atrocious conditions, many slaves decided that death would be better than continued misery and
attempted to starve themselves. When the crew saw that a slave was skipping meals and trying to
starve themselves coals of fire were put on a shovel and placed so near their lips that they scorched
and burned

The Art Of Paintings
The goal of my creative project was to create various splatter paint works that each represented a
key human emotion. I settled on just three and I chose joy, anxiousness, and depression. I bought
three 8 by 10 inches blank canvases to do my work on, paint, and an assortment of brushes. Before
I started I looked up a video on different splatter paint techniques, and I became interested in adding
some texture to my artwork, so the first paintingI worked on, representing joy, I added some
saltwater to it and actual grains of salt. I really wanted this artwork to stand out from the other
two, because of how different this emotion is. The canvas has a yellow background, because I
wanted all the bright colors I used to really pop on the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I knew this activity would be messy, but I did enjoy it and I learned that you really can t go wrong
with a splatter painting. No matter what you do, it is going to be interesting in way, because no
one has done something like it before.
I really enjoyed splatter painting, it was an enjoyable way of just showing my creativity and
letting my mind flow. I think it would be even better to do this with a friend rather than just by
yourself, and next time I will mix other paint colors to create more interesting colors. The
creation showed me that I m capable of doing at least one thing that is artistic, before I would say
that I couldn t even draw a straight line correctly. These three artworks are important to me,
because I have never created art that I am proud of, this is the first time that has ever happened. I
am satisfied with my result, I expressed everything in the way I imagines it. I m not sure that
people could just as readily recognize what emotions each canvas represents, but that doesn t bother
me, I d rather just get some type of reaction out of them than nothing.
I do consider the part of my brain that comes out with ideas to be creative, but there are times that
I can t just make my own idea, I need inspiration from many diverse sources first. I do think my
artwork shows imagination, because I

Hae Lee Murder Case Study
Introduction
Serial is a podcast about the murder of Hae Lee, a teenage girl, from Baltimore that was killed in
1999. The state of Maryland has convicted Adnan syad. He was convicted by the testament of Jay,
another student from their school. He claims that he witnessed the crime and the burial of the
body. He was also convicted because adnan s cell phone records partially match the testament the
jay claimed to have happened. Adnan still proclaims to be innocent and there is almost no other
evidence to convict him aside from Jay s story.
I personally believe that there is a third person that committed this murder. I don t think there is
enough evidence to convict adnan. I also don t believe jay is telling the truth. I think that jay
worked for somebody that killed Hae. I think there was an ulterior motive for this killing,
somebody wanted to convict adnan. I think jay plotted all of this out ... Show more content on

No mentions of hate groups were made, and no other suspects found. There is no evidence to
suggest my opinion and no reports or witnesses. Also there is some evidence that is convicting to
adnan such as the cell records. There is also the question as to why somebody else would commit
this murder. There is no known reasons as to why somebody else would do this. Basically there is
no evidence to support my opinion.
Counter the counter argument
What I have actually based my opinion on is not the presence of evidence but the lack thereof.
We know there is not enough evidence to convict Jay or adnan so the only logical answer is to
suggest a third person. Jay also obviously knows about this crime so this is why I suggest he is
there only to convict adnan. The evidence that convicted adnan is so insignificant and so shallow
that I can t believe he committed this crime. The only evidence is Jay as a witness, and because of
this I have to think that he knows who really did it.

  • 2. Wildlife Biologist Career Essay The career I chose was a wildlife biologist. Wildlife Biologists study the physical and behavioral characteristics of wildlife, as well as human actions on animals and their ecosystem. The duties of a wildlife biologist range anywhere from writing a report to collecting data by experimenting and observing. For instance, a wildlife biologistmay have to collect data from observing animal reproduction, interaction between species, and movement patterns. Other times, wildlife biologists will spend time indoors writing papers that explain the data they collected, giving presentations, and doing pre experiment research. Usually a wildlife biologist focuses on a specific type of species, which can include marine mammals, insects, amphibians, reptiles,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The current demand for wildlife biologists isn t high, but in the future the demand will increase due to human trends which include pollution, habitat destruction, and climate change. Although more biologists will be needed in the future to study human impact on wildlife, the job employment is only expected to increase by four percent (which is slower than usual) by 2024. The term wildlife refers to birds, whales, gorillas, jaguars, rhinos, sharks, etc.. Like aforesaid, a wildlife biologist typically specializes in one of these animal categories. However, choice may be limited based on location. Coast states such as Florida, Texas, California, Alaska, Hawaii and others tend to offer many jobs in marine biology. Other landlocked states may have jobs that focus on land wildlife. Generally speaking, this career is available worldwide (including the Galveston area), therefore it wouldn t be absolutely necessary to relocate. Beginners in the career are likely to start off with a low position and once again, a low pay. Whenever a person has gained experience in their position, they are likely to be promoted to a higher position with an increased ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Chromatin Case Study Essay Lessons Learned Chromatin Eric Lee January 21, 2015 Chromatin made a pivot from a pure biotechnology company to a mixed model that combines both biotechnology and traditional breeding pipelines. Thinking broadly (not just Chromatin), what challenges and opportunities does making a strategic pivot present for an entrepreneurial company? The decision to pivot from a biotechnology company to a more vertically integrated seed company was likely one of the most important decisions in the history of Chromatin. By inserting itself into the multi billion dollar market for sorghum, the company vastly increased its potential for profit. However, the leaders of Chromatin certainly did not take the decision likely. As Prof. Copenhaver outlined in his January 14 lecture, a vast number of factors needed to be taken into account before transitioning into Chromatin s current business model. In the case of scientific ventures, operating as part of a university offers an array of benefits: they can rely on its well maintained laboratories, its legal and bureaucratic expertise, and its established relationships with insurers, bankers, and licensing agencies. However, in order to use these services, scientific entrepreneurs must give a portion of their equity to the university, which can diminish the profitability and... Although the pivot presented numerous new organizational issues, personnel changes, and procedural learning curves (essentially making Chromatin s job much more difficult) it was in the long term interest of the company to make the transition. Looking back, Chromatin s transition represents a successfully executed strategic pivot; it considerably broadened the scope of the company s capabilities and redefined its target market, all while maintaining continuity and coherence in the mission of the ... • 5. Discoveries of Maria Montessori 2. What are the discoveries of Dr. Maria Montessori ? Dr. Maria Montessori was a keen observer of children. She used her observational and experimental proclivities from her medical background to develop, what we might today call, a Constructivist understanding of the process of learning. She studied them scientifically. If she saw some unusual behavior in a child, she would say, I won t believe it now, I shall if it happens again . She studied the conditions in which the children would perform those actions. She thought education always involved three elements: The learner, the Prepared Environment, and the Trained Adult. The basic areas in which she gave importance was freedom, independence, respect and responsibility. She believed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The inner drive to work is sufficient to reach their goal if it corresponded with the inner developmental need. With the provision of the necessary conditions and necessary environment the child without the instigation of an adult can reach his goal. 2. When an inner need to do something meets with the inner urge spontaneous Interest is generated. When the inner urge or the Interest finds a suitable working condition it leads to spontaneous Repetition. When this spontaneous Repetition of an activity is done with interest the natural result is Concentration. Concentration is not the end product of education, its just the beginning. Any true learning happens with concentration. The children revealed that given the right conditions they would work with concentration. 3. Very young children need order for their development. This order need not be only with things in the environment but also with values, functions and other human activities. The child needs to see human values like Say the Truth being practiced. But the adults do not practice in the everyday life. The child gets confused and this can create a warp in his development. Similarly any object in the environment being used for a purpose other than it is meant for creates disturbance. (e.g. the other end of a teaspoon used as a screwdriver).Contrary instructions about behaviour muddle his decisions how some action is allowed at some other time (for example. when a visitor is ... • 6. Should Video Games Be Considered Art Summary Should Video Games Be Considered Art? Roger Ebert strongly expresses his opinion toward the tense debate on weather video games should be considered art. He expresses his belief by demonstrating in his article how video games could never compare to the amazing writers and the incredible filmmakers (Ebert). Ebert envisions art being created by one person rather than a team of people having skilled enough abilities to produce the same masterpiece. He does not see a similarity in objectives between video games and an art piece. Ebert explains that in games there are, Rules, points, objectives, and an outcome (Ebert). As for art, that is something he believes one can t win. Considering one who believes video games can not be a form of art may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Analysis Of The Catcher Of The Rye Two Worlds, Two Choices, Two Boys In The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, Holden Caulfield struggles to leave the real world around him which he constantly fails to fit in. He is expelled from three schools before going to Pencey. He then leaves Pencey for New York before Christmas. After experiencing the coldness of society in New York, He decides to hitchhike to the West alone, escaping the society and leaving his family behind. Instead, he chooses to dream about living in the fantasy world in his mind where all things he resists do not exist. Among those things he resists in the real world, the phoniness of adults, the unavoidable loss of children s innocence and his unbreakable bond with his family are the most significant ones that schedule Holden s canceled departure. Holden is unwilling to get along with phonies at his schools. When Holden explains the reason why he leaves Elkton Hills School to Mr. Spencer, he gives an example: For instance, they had this headmaster, Mr. Haas, that was the phoniest bastard I ever met in my life (Salinger 17). Holden finally drops out of Elkton Hills because of the phoniness of his headmaster even though Holden has no direct contact with him. However, Holden s abhorrence toward phonies is so great and evident that he cannot even stand watching a phony s action from far away. Holden originally believes that changing to another school will reduce his interaction with phonies, but his thought is proved wrong at Pencey. After ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. A Simulation Based On A Health Care Organization This paper focuses on a simulation based on a health care organization that is having financial problems. The simulation is based on a cardiac care hospital called Elijah Heart Center. The paper discusses decisions that had to be made based on financial dilemmas Elijah Heart Center is facing and how these dilemmas can be solved based on the decisions made in the simulation. Phase I: Bridge a Working Capital Shortage The first option, I chose was to reduce agency staff. These types of employees actually cost more money to employ because they are contracted with a different company, so it costs more money to have them work for the company than regular company employees. The Elijah Heart Center will find that not only will the organization save money by not hiring contract employees but they do not have the expertise, training and knowledge of company policies and procedures that regular employees have. The second option that I chose was to change the skill mix. Employees who are untrained, unlicensed or have limited expertise have to have duties that do not require special training or degrees. These employees can concentrate of tasks that do not require much skill or training such as, feeding, bathing or comforting the patient. This provides assistance to the licensed employees so they can better concentrate on patient care without worrying about smaller tasks. This also benefits the heart center by reducing the expenditure on employee salaries. This way they will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Sonnet 95 Summary In sonnet 95, the speaker depicts a paternal feeling while speaking to the addressee, where indeed the poet reminds his audience about way appearance can be so deceiving. The young man is relying on his good appearance to veil his sexual immorality. Being that he is handsome and attractive, people are reluctant to disapprove his behavior. In the first quadrant, the poet employs different stylistic devices, which include simile, as the young manis likened to a fragrant rose, and on the other hand, he is compared to a destructive worm, but all his dark side of life is hidden under his good looking and charming nature. What is important about this poem is the manner in which the speakerreminds the young man about his bad behavior and draws examples that makes him feel sorry about what he does behind his good looking nature. By the use of diction, imagery, diction, images, metaphors and other figures of speech, such as tone of voice, allusions, syntax and structure of the speech, the speaker warns the young man against his sexual immorality, and reminds him that there are detrimental risks associated with his behavior if he does not change. In the first quadrant, the speaker examines both sides of the young man s life where he looks at the darker and better sides but most importantly demonstrating the way he misuses his good looking ability to commit sexual crimes. The boss may catch on also the coworkers, and the person could be fired. Discuss possible explanations for the behavior using attribution theory There can be many explanations for why an employee would call in sick to work when he or she is not really sick. One reason could be explained through the attribution theory. The attribution theory explains the behavior like this can be explained by attributing it to either the employee s internal disposition or to an external situation. The employee s internal disposition could be that the employee always seems to have a bad attitude to his or her job duties and that his or her personality is pessimistic or lazy. The employee s external situation could be that he or she has a manager who is constantly micro managing them, which makes them unhappy at work, or the employee has a coworker who is their counterpart who is slacking at work. • 12. United States And The Civil War US Civil War United States of America was formed as a result of the revolution that continued from 1776 to 1783. After that, United States was divided into two wings/ parts that are the southern and the northern parts. Then conflict between the two aroused because the northern and the southern societies were totally different of each other in terms of economic structure, social class, politics and other social matters especially slavery. The civil war, that started in 1861 and ended in 1865, was the result of the unending conflict between the southern and the northern societies. On the other hand, the southern societies comprised of best suited agricultural lands and had complete hold on the agricultural needs of the states and also exported it to the European countries. In this society, there was great racial discrimination. The whites were the owners of the lands and they felt no need to establish the industrial culture because their lands were very profitable for them. Another reason for this was that the owners did not work and had the slaves that prepared the crop, harvested it, and supplied it to the markets. In short, slaves were responsible for the take care of the crops and the owners treated them brutally. They tortured them physically, emotionally, did not provide them with food and forced them to work all the time (Boritt, 1992). They were also punished harshly for their little mistakes due to which many slaves died as well. So there was great violation of labor rights and also human rights that triggered the seeds of hate and rebellion. In addition to it, the northern societies also supported the elimination of slavery. Right at the beginning, the movie addresses that Dr. Stern has five pairs of leather shoes, organized red ties and white dress shirts, and reads the psychologist magazine with his morning coffee, which shows his personal perspective a successful psychologist. So to prevent potentially losing patients, he listens, but does not speak on how to treat them. This is shown when the final patient shown questions his inability to help, and the length of the treatment, in which Dr. Stern states it ll work in due time. Additionally, Dr. Stern tends to be very generic with his treatment: he repeats what his patient says, and even asks the same questions to all of his patients, shown by the use of... Many patients smash his windows, and run out of the building in an initial surge of anger, not initially realizing how important these comments are. But as the movie continues, the film transitions to his patients accepting this new treatment from Dr. Stern, because it s changing them for the better. This is shown when the gardener is waiting outside for a window to break, yet surprisingly nothing occurs. Besides that, when this section of the film starts coming to a close, the filming style slightly changes. Sociological Concepts In Sicko Sicko, a documentary film by Michael Moore, describes the medical issue in which many people who live in the United States have to suffer their sickness due to the high treatment costs. Many people in the U.S. do not have health insurance because they can afford for that. However, not only people that do not have healthinsurance but also the people who have health insurance struggle for health care coverage when they have an illness. Moreover, compared to other countries such as Canada, England, France and Cuba, American health care system is extreme complicated and extremely expensive. Discuss Why Hydrogen Bonding Is Essential for Life Discuss why hydrogen bonding is essential for life Throughout biochemistry there are many bonds without which life as it is on earth today would not be possible. One of the most important bonds of these is the hydrogen bond, a weak chemical bond that is present in essential biological molecules such as water and polypeptides. A hydrogen bond is defined by Campbell and Reece as occurring when a hydrogen atom is covalently bonded to an electronegative atom but attracted to another electronegative atom. In water molecules, there are several key reasons why hydrogen bonds can be formed and explaining them in water a good way to show the chemistry. Firstly, the presence of covalent bondbetween the hydrogen and the oxygen means that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For metabolic reactions this is very useful because it means that the enzymes can work at their optimum temperature, often the same as 37C core temperature, and thus the metabolic reactions within the body are very efficient. For every 10C below optimum temperature, the rate of successive substrate enzyme collisions decreases by 2 to 3 times [Campbell and Reece, p862]. High specific heat capacity also benefits marine environments by resisting temperature fluctuations, which is perhaps why marine food chains are often many times longer than those of terrestrial organisms. The high heat capacity of water is one of several hydrogen bonding attributes that benefit the marine environments, unsurprisingly, with the high surface tension and the small relative density of ice also playing a large role in how aquatic organisms survive. The high surface tension of water is perhaps best explained by relating it to close proximity of adjacent water molecules in aqueous solution. This closeness is of course caused by the numerous hydrogen bonds (Fig. 2) existing between the water molecules and is named cohesion, a word that can be defined as being united as a whole. A constructive discharge happens when an employee is legally justified in claiming that he/she was forced to resign because the employer has made working conditions intolerable. In our situation a complaint was never filed with the company letting us know the employee was unhappy or giving us the opportunity to respond to the situation. But the court also found that the plaintiff failed to avail herself of the internal reporting procedures as she resigned two days after mentioning harassment to an official. The case supports our position of not guilty because the employee who is filing charges against us did not follow the company s internal reporting procedures. The Pros And Cons Of Entitlement Theory Basically Sen (1981), founded Entitlement theory on the assumption that the system under consideration is an economy with private ownership and exchange in form of trade, exchange between people and production and between man and nature. The theory is useful to explain povertyeffects for different people at household level with disaggregation of differences among the group in the population and people even at the same household (Lenhardt, 2013). Hence, analysis using this theory implicates resources allocation between households. Remittances being one external resources can have effects in the final analysis using Entitlement Theory. As shown in Table 1 and 2, the decay rate with the addition of TFA is significantly lower relative to just SP in the solution. • 36. The Impact of Charlemagne Upon Europe Essay Charlemagne, or Charles the Great, reigned during a time of much turmoil and upheaval in Europe during middle ages. Charlemagne s background and family history contributed much to his rise to power. The triumphs of his past lineage prepared him to take on the task of governing the Frankish Empire, and defending it from invaders. Charlemagneaccomplished much during his supremacy. He not only brought education back into medieval Europe, but also invented an efficient way to govern his people. Charles Martel, or Charles the Hammer, considered one of the greatest to hold the title Mayor of the Palace , succeeded the position in 732 (Abrams 186). He gained high admiration and respect from the Frankish people for his feats against the Muslims trying to gain passage into Europe (Abrams 186), and imparted much wisdom to an equally respected ruler, his grandson, Charlemagne. By this time, the Franks thought of the mayors more as kings instead of stewards considering that they had complete control over the empire and its people. Charlemagne s Father, Pepin III, more commonly known as Pepin the Short, assumed the position of Mayor in 751 (Davis 54). During his reign, Pepin defended Rome against a barbarian tribe called the Lombards, which strengthened the relationship between the church and the state that later would contribute to Charlemagne s sovereignty as Holy Roman Emperor (Davis 54). Pepin died in 768, dividing the now much larger Frankish empire between his two sons Charlemagne and Carolmen (Davis 54). Carolmen died in 771 and left Charlemagne as the sole ruler of the Frankish empire (Davis 54). The era when the mayors ruled the Franks up until Charlemagne s death acquired the title The Carolingian Dynasty in Western Europe (Jenkins 123). From the passing of both his Father and brother, Charlemagne continued into his kingship over the Frankish Empire. Charlemagne s initiatives and conquests as king brought ... Cite a passage or passages that reveal an important point in the text central to our understanding of Zen. Identify clearly the issue you are focusing on and make the case of its significance. Eugen Herrigel spent five years studying kyudo under Master Kenzo Awa, unlocking both the skills of archery and Zen. After nearly a year, Herrigel begins to practice loosing the arrow. Up until this point, Herrigel had just let the arrow fly, paying no attention to the moment of release other than to note the peak of tension. What stands in your way is that you have a much too wilful will. You think that what you do not do yourself does not happen (Herrigel 31). In the quote, Master Kenzo Awa is channeling Mencius concept of original mind. Though the master is speaking about the art of archery, his statement actually embodies the Zen principle of the shoshin (similar to the original mind) and no thoughtness. First, we must not forget that Herrigel is practicing one of the Six Arts, all of which require a simultaneous embodiment of childishness and mastery. Shoshin is akin to the mind of a child. The child recognizes its own ignorance and is more apt to learn from masters. The child, understanding its ignorance, does not long for success when learning, but awaits more opportunities to practice. Failure and success are both forms of practice to the child because they are not attempting to be or create anything which can be regarded as pinnacle. Herrigel has lost sight of the importance of failure and only looks to success he has forgotten that continuing to fail in the pursuit of mastery spurs true enlightenment and learning. Unlike one possessing shoshin, Herrigel neglects to realize that his repeated failures are not supposed to be a source of frustration, but a source of character. Each failed shot is another chance to learn. Failure must lead Herrigel to comprehend the depth of his own ignorance, or a state of shoshin, if he is to master ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This included devastation to family structures and in worst cases the loss of human life; and without doubt slavery claimed the lives of many just as Harriet Jacobs expressed I once saw a slave girl dying after the birth of a child nearly white.
