How Does Montresor Plan To Kill Fortunato
The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as best I could; but when he ventured upon insult, I
vowed revenge. ... I must not only punish, but punish with impunity. (Poe, 233)
Some of Montresor s very first words when he is telling the story show that he wants revenge
against Fortunato. By saying, I must not only punish, but punish with impunity, it is shown that he
intends to get away with the deed he plans to commit.
It must be understood that neither by word not deed had I given Fortunato cause to doubt my
goodwill. I continued, as was my wont, to smile in his face, and he did not perceive that my smile
now was at the thought of his immolation. (Poe, 234)
By this point in the story, Montresor is clearly planning to kill Fortunato. While to Fortunato he
appears friendly and cheerful, he is secretly thinking of ways to murder his friend. Montresor does
not want Fortunato to suspect anything, as is shown in the sentence, It must be understood that
neither by word not deed had I given Fortunato cause to doubt my goodwill. ... Show more content

I had told them ... not to stir from the house. These orders were sufficient ... to ensure their

Here, Montresor is using reverse psychology in order to ensure that none of his servants would be
at his house at the time of the murder. With nobody around, there would be no eyewitnesses to
reveal the deed.

The Cause that Led to the Beginning of the Peloponnesian...
The Cause that Led to the Beginning of the Peloponnesian War
Ancient Greece during 4th Century BC was home to the city states of Sparta and Athens, who
during this time were the superpowers of the region. The Peloponnesian war between these city
states and their respective allies lasted from 431 404 BC, although conflicts between the two had
dated back further. Major fighting in the war occurred from 431 421 and ended in Athenian victory.
However, renewed conflict raged between 413 and 404 which resulted in Spartan victory.
The Peloponnesian war between Athens and Sparta evolved from a string of events which I am
going to look at to see if there was a single cause for this war.

Although Potidaea was a member of the Delian League, Athens and her allies, it had maintained the
right to receive magistrates from its mother city every year. Tired of paying tribute to Athens and
resentful of Athenian rule the citizens of Potidaea supported a revolt to expel Athenian power.
Both sides sent forces to Potidaea and once again Athenians were battling with Corinthians. Due to
aiding the people of Potidaea, Corinth faced an embargo by Athens which enraged Sparta. Any
appeals to Athens to stop the embargo were ignored, forcing the Spartans to coviene the
Peloponnesian council and lead the two cities one more step closer to war.
Thucydides wrote the growth of the power of Athens and the alarm which this inspired (in Sparta)
made war inevitable. This comment shows another element that contributed to the cause of the
Peloponnesian war.
After the Persian wars, there was a development of Athenian control when the Delian league was
formed which was an alliance of cities based around Athens. Each city contributed funds to help

Founder and leader of the Nazi party, who many describe to be the most insane and trouble
causing man in the history of the entire world. Adolf Hitler s goal was to make Germany the
strongest country in the world, which he did, along with most of Europe. His armies of over
sixteen million men were standing by his side the whole way. Although he had a large group of
followers, he also had an even larger group of people who were against him. Adolf felt that if he
did not remove all of the Jews from the face of the earth, he would have been seen as a failure, so
he tried, and he tried, and he tried. But in the end, he failed. This then led to him believing that he

Besides the fact that he conquered Moscow, the Russians did not surrender. Instead, they burned the
city before the French got there, so the shelter and supplies that Napoleon was counting on were
destroyed. So, his army had to retreat back to Germany, while being chased and hunted by the
Russians. The whole Russian campaign ended up as a complete failure. He lost almost all of his
500,000 men that he had started with. In 1810, he divorced Josephine and married the daughter of
the Austrian Emperor, Marie Louise, in a last attempt to improve relations. Upon his return to
France, the Prussians, Russians, Swedish, and the British started the War of Liberation against
him. His army was soon forced over the Rhine at the Battle of Leipzig. However, the allied
armies did not accept the plan and they demanded that the brother of Louis XVI, Louis XVIII, be
put on the throne. Napoleon was sent to rule the Island of Elba in 1813 with the British Navy
guarding the Island. But, in 1815, he returned to Paris and his old armies quickly gathered around
him, already sick of the new king. The allies were threatening to invade France again since they
heard of the return of Napoleon, so he quickly organized a new army and marched them into
Belgium to meet the British and Prussian armies. In Ligny, he defeated the Prussians and then
marched to Waterloo to meet the British under Wellington. At first, he was doing well in the battle.

A Single, Comprehensive Solution For Environmental Challenges
A single, comprehensive solution to environmental challenges does not exist. The subject matter of
the environment is interdisciplinary and entails diverse sets of strategies and solutions. Historically,
collective action solutions have focused on conventional governmental regulations or privatization.
It operates under the assumption that under the established apparatus of government and private
institutions, individuals could join cooperative efforts and contribute to the cause. Hardin argued
for the centralized administration of resources by governmental agencies or the privatization of the
commons and allow the private enterprise to manage the common as it sees fit (Hardin 1968).
Nobel prizing winning economist, Elinor Ostrom disputed such claims, asserting that governments
have large agendas and cannot consider local environmental problems and some resources such as
water and air cannot be privatized. Ostrom insists that the state or the market cannot be successful
in ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources (Ostrom 1990). According to Ostrom and her
research, an alternative approach to the problem of the commons is community mobilization, or
polycentric governance. The alternative approach is characterized by multiple cooperative
independent institutions organized and governed under a general system of rules. The citizens and
officials of the community all come together to jointly chart the priorities and management of their
local resources, while balancing

Kurt Cobain Case
The latest lawsuit regarding Kurt Cobain s death scene images has been rejected by the King
County Superior Court on Friday, July 31. The lawsuit was filed by Richard Lee, a conspiracy
theorist behind the public show Now See It Person To Person: Kurt Cobain Was Murdered, who
claims that Cobain was actually murdered by government officials. Lee filed a lawsuit against
Seattle, claiming that the city purposefully withheld important reports and photos that would
serve as evidence for his theory. Ever since 1994, Lee has been on a mission to unveil the details
regarding Cobain s death, but the Superior Court Judge Theresa Doyle rejected the lawsuit with
the explanation it was improperly served. The verdict stated that Doyle failed to deliver the
lawsuit to the mayor, city clerk or city manager, who are the proper recipients of such cases. In
addition, judge Doyle decided that Lee did not give the city enough time to respond to the public

fifth edition of DSM, however, defined trauma as extreme threatening and distressing events

such as anxiety, affliction, and worry are called disorders in the sense of mental disease and sick

Similarities Between Mary Shelley And Mary Wollstonecraft
The differences and similarities in the life of Mary Shelley and Mary Wollstonecraft in their roles
as feminist
According to Greenblatt, in early English history, women were restricted in doing so many things
that men were free to do. Women were provided with limited education and provided with a rigid
code of sexual behavior especially after marriage. During this period, (the Romantic period) women
were strictly distinguished from their male counterparts and were given strict roles such as child
bearing, household keeping and nothing more (9). According to Cervo (1988), Mary Wollstonecraft
and her daughter Shelly were two very existential women because they existed as women and
were surrounded by weak and/or dishonest men who were unsure of themselves and the meaning
and role of their sexuality in the real world (17). It is quiet surprising that Mary Shelley, daughter
of a renowned feminist Mary Wollstonecraft would write her novel from the perspective of three
men with very small attention to the female character (Davis, 1992). In the course of this essay, I
would talk about the similarities between Mary Shelley and her mother Mary Wollstonecraft and
differences that existed between them in their roles as far as women rights were concerned.
According to Greenblatt, Mary Wollstonecraft, was the second of five children and the oldest
daughter and most often she witnessed the brutality of her father towards her mother (208). I
imagine growing in that situation was never

Essay On Health Information Exchange
Introduction I will be focusing on defining a Health Information Exchange, including the aspects of
the various formats; how Health Information Exchanges developed over time, including the hurdles
that had to be overcome; and where Health Information Exchanges are heading, along with expected
hurdles and improvements. The development has been much slower than expectations, but the
future looks promising. What is HIE? Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) share patient
information between health care providers in order to improve the speed, quality, safety, and cost
of patient care. By sharing data, physicians improve their decision making, as well as reduce
readmissions, avoid medication errors, improve diagnoses, and decrease duplicate testing. Aside
from these benefits, the use of electronic data requires healthcare providers to standardize their data.
There are three forms of exchanges the direct exchange, query based exchange,... Show more

This service, once the patient is identified, searches for the existence of records within the
exchange. This form of information retrieval would be very helpful to the care of a patient, most
specifically in the case of emergency care (Morris, 2012). The Emergency Dept could begin a
query at the time of triage to build a problem list, allergy list, medication list, current physicians
and ongoing treatments. The costs associated with developing a record locator service, and the
questionable sustainability in a market lacking interoperability between the available EHRs, have
impeded the development of this form of exchange (Rudin,2014).It has been difficult for HIEs
using this format to reach their tipping point to become self sustaining. There are several
determinants driving the success of Query based HIOs the need for a broader set of clinical data,
more diverse and high volumes of data, obtaining relevant users that need the database, and
utilization rates (Morris,

Problems with the Japanese Whaling Industry
The Japanese whaling industry has thrived and flourished since its origin. The Japanese have
depended on whales such as the blue, fin, sei, and humpback whales. The issue at hand is that the
demand for whale products and byproducts is so large that the numbers of these types of whales
has declined to near extinction levels. Without any care to the harm being done, the Japanese
whalingindustry has not shown any sign of remorse towards this actions little has been done by the
international community s to put an end to the elimination of these large and peaceful creatures.
There have been small groups of anti whaling conservation. The groups have had many victories
along the way by using their non traditional methods and sometimes generating violent tension
between them and the whaling ships while in international waters.
Summary
This topic has generated research and observation in order to understand both sides of the whaling
industry in Japan. First must take a look to the history and background of the topic. The oldest
Japanese book in existence, called the Kojiki, chronicled that the Emperor Jimmu, the first
emperor of Japan, ate whale meat (History of Japanese Whaling, 2013). Due to over 1,000 years of
whaling in Japan, It has not been an easy task for the Japanese people to ease up on this addiction to
whale products. For centuries this industry has remained strong until recently attacks by
conservation groups. The international community has created the

Indian Ocean Trade Research Paper
With the years of development of trades between Silk Roads and the Indian Ocean, both went

Poor Ethnic Groups
Poor ethnic groups in the United StatesAccording to the Census Bureau one in seven people in
the United States live in poverty. Today, more than 45 million people in the United States are
living in poverty. Those 45 million people in poverty are constantly struggling with getting
nutritious food, safe shelter, and proper clothing for the weather. Throughout the United States,
there is a dilemma that certain ethnic groups are in deeper poverty than another. Here we will
look into why one ethnic group is better off than the next. The United States uses the Census
Bureau to determine which ethnic groups are in poverty. Using an economic poverty measure
calculating the minimum amount of income needed to meet the basic needs. This varies my
family size and compensation also. The four groups we will look into are African American,
Hispanic, white, and Asian doing this will determine why each group is in more poverty than
another. According to the Census Bureau, African Americans make up roughly 22% of the
poverty rate, annually making an average of $39,490 a year. This is the lowest poverty rate out of
all of the ethnic groups. Why is it that African Americans have a higher poverty rate than others?
One problem holding African American people back from having a better lifestyle are the three

Moving Day Research Paper
Moving Day How will my young children feel about it? At some point in their lives, many
families face the prospect of moving to a new home. While a move may be stressful for adults, it
can be even more traumatic for children, as they are most likely not a part of the decision to
move, and might not understand it. Many children thrive on familiarity and routine, which a move

What Are The Red Flags In The Landlady
In the story, The Landlady by Roald Dahl there are numerous red flags where a young man, Billy,
has trouble trusting his instincts. Billy is quite intrigued when he finds a Bed and Breakfast that
is inexpensive. He finds the sweet old lady to be a little off, but ignores it until he realizes what
she will do to him. In this story, Dahl shows that Billy should trust his instincts when something
seems off, otherwise something awful might end up happening to him. The first red flag happens
in the beginning of the story. Although it may not stand out as particularly important or atrocious,
when combined with other minor, almost negligible events that happen it is definitely worth
noticing. Dahl writes, Normally you ring the bell and you have at least a half minutes wait before

The evidence is that the case has talked about diversification (from educational movies to

How My Lesson Plan Incorporates Children s Stories
Administrators and teachers need to recognize that not every student will find English interesting or
applicable. Children s books address this problem by combining relatability, students interests as
well as connections to the text, and functionality, the ability for it to be used to fulfill standards.
The books offer a unique medium where everyone has an opinion or experience that connects in a
significant way to them. The relatability comes from the stories prevalence in culture. Up to this
point, however, we have failed as an institution to implement these stories as a prominent focal
point in classroom lessons. The lessonI am proposing is an attempt to fix this oversight. This paper

Yet, teachers are also using books students have no exposure to beforehand. Teachers must find a
way to get students to connect to the story, form complex ideas about the story s meaning, and
show them how to prove these ideas; A difficult task to complete with books that take weeks to
read. There is a need, therefore, to limit the quantity of tasks a teacher needs to complete to teach
students how to interpret the text. The lesson uses children s books to correct the problem by
having relatability established beforehand and, in many cases, getting students to interact with the
material in a critical way that is meaningful for them. Numerous studies have shown that using
materials that students relate to and care about increases retention and speeds up initial learning.
Connections are rarely formed, however, when students are forced to quickly and artificially
connect with books that they have not chosen because they are interested in it, but because
someone is making them read the story. Children s books get around this by offering an interesting
multi dimensional forum where students already have personal experiences from popular culture
references to the stories and their own concerns, ranging from gender roles to morality, developed
slowly over time rather than demanded immediately. Most importantly, because children s stories
were a part of students childhood and allowed them to naturally form new ideas and impressions

Bilingual Is The New Black
Bilingual is the New Black
Today we live in an increasingly globalized world. In the United States alone over 60 million
people speak a language other than English when at home (Speaking in Tongues). While most
schools require at least two year of foreign language, this is not really enough to familiarize
yourself with a language. It would not only be in the students best interest to do this, but also the
schools as it increases academic achievement. It also improves your cognitive functions and
benefits society. All of these factors led me to this conclusion: everyone should take at least four
years worth of foreign language classes. Many Americans argue that because English is quickly
becoming the global language, Americans should not have to learn other languages. They are
operating under the following pretenses: there wouldn t possibly be anyone we would want to
communicate with that does not speak English already, other countries should teach their citizens a
second language (English) so that they can communicate with us, and learning another language is
only beneficially if it directly influences us gaining more opportunities. These biases are misguided.
Learning another language will benefit you for your entire life. It will help you through school,
improve your mind permanently, and create opportunities for you and society. Don t conform to the
American stereotype. Trust me, it is worth your while to learn a foreign language. Learning a
second language begins

Number 6 Vaginal Cancer Case Study
This is a very frightening health problem. Luckily, in most cases, HPV goes away on its own
and does not cause any serious issues. But when the STD does not go away, it can cause awful
symptoms like genital warts or even cancer. There is no way of knowing which infected persons
will develop cancer or other complications. It is true though, that people with weaker immune
systems could be less likely to effectively fight the virus and will be more likely to develop
complications. Here are some possible effects.
Number Six: Vaginal Cancer
Most women infected with this STD don t go on to develop vaginal cancer, but it s possible in
some cases. HPV is present in nearly three quarters of females who have cancer of the vagina.

Morphology and Lipid Analysis of 3T3 L1 cells pre and post differentiation
Erin Kim
1
Abstract
This report will look at the morphology of 3T3 L1 cells pre and post differentiation and the
percent lipid in our adipocytes after differentiation. The analysis of cell morphology is important to
study cell behaviour such as the uptake of nutrients [1]. Three different plates of 3T3 L1 cells
were examined. 2 of the plates were grown then differentiated into adipocytes. After
differentiation, these cells were fixed with formalin then one was stained with Oil Red O. The
last plate was grown to confluency, but did not undergo differentiation before fixing with
formalin. After imaging these cells using a fluorescence microscope, the images were analyzed
with the Image J software. Image J analyzed the shape index of the cell our results showed the
adipocytes to have a shape index of 0.888В±0.030 in comparison to than the undifferentiated
fibroblasts, which had a shape index of 0.335В±0.082. The Shape index measures how round or
elongated a cell is. The closer the shape index is to 1, the rounder the cell ... Show more content on

These 3T3 L1 cells are capable of differentiating from fibroblasts into adipocytes under certain
conditions. 3T3 L1 cells are classified as Biosafety Level 1 [2]. 3T3 L1 cells divide rapidly until
they reach 100 percent confluency, which primes them to differentiate into adipocytes. The purpose
of this study was to examine 3T3 L1 cells before and after differentiation to compare their
morphology and lipid content.
1
Before staining the differentiated cells, they were fixed using formalin (cross linking) to preserve
the cell structure. By staining the cells with Oil Red O, we were able to stain the lipid within the
cell, which increases the contrast of a cell and makes it easier to visualize the lipid content within
each cell

Blockbuster Vs Netflix
After the creation of Netflix in 1997 by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph, it has overtaken our
society with the vast amount of usage. The amount of users has continued to rise with the
development of faster computers and online streaming. In the beginning of the Netflix company,
subscribers were only allowed to rent movies three at a time and have them delivered via mail to
their homes. This initial start gave Netflix a huge boost in the movie industry because before this
viewers had to go to movie rental places to rent movies. One other company that gave Netflix
competition was Blockbuster, which was founded in 1985. Much like Netflix in the starting stages,
Blockbuster allowed customers to rent movies online and have them delivered to their... Show more

Finally, by 2007 Netflix introduced online streaming, which allowed subscribers to watch
television episodes and movies instantly on their private computers. In the following years,
Netflix made it possible to watch shows via gaming systems like Wii, Xbox, and PlayStation.
After going to gaming systems, Netflix then became available on hand held devices like the
Apple iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch by 2010. (pr.netflix.com) These major changes to the
company spiked the number of subscribers that Netflix was getting. Not only can viewers watch
shows instantly, but they can watch them on the go and from anywhere. In 2011, Netflix
subscribers reached 22.9 million and have continued to increase to 69.1 million in 2015.
(statista.com) Netflix has yet to see a decrease in the number of users from year to year, but they
see a steady increase each year. The continuous growth of users can be attributed to many things.
The way Netflix stays current with all the emerging technology makes it easier for subscribers to
enjoy their shows whenever they want to. Each Netflix account can be used on a number of
different devices, which allows families to share an account. Several family members can be
watching different shows on Netflix at the same time. All of these factors make Netflix a more user

A Laboratory Report on Body Composition
This is a laboratory report on measuring body composition. The aim of the laboratory report was
to compare two different field methods skinfolds and bioimpedance analysis to measure body
composition and evaluate the most reliable doubly indirect method to measure body
composition. A number of studies such as Kitano,T have shown a strong correlation between
skinfold and bioelectrical impedance analysis and tend to have an average body fat difference
of less than 0.6. Body composition is a combination of numerous components these are: Fat
mass, fat free mass, Adipose tissue mass, Lean body mass and relative body fat. Fat mass is
defined as all the extractable lipids from adipose and other tissue. Fat free mass is all the left over
chemicals and tissues, including water, muscle, bone, connective tissue and internal organs.
Adipose tissue mass are connective tissue that work as the major storage site for fat. Lean body
mass is everything in the body apart from body fat. Lean body mass includes organs, blood, bones,
muscles and skin. Relative body fat is the ratio between fat mass and total body mass. Body
composition is measured in many ways. Anthropometry refers to human body composition
measurement. The most accurate and direct form of measuring body composition is cadaver
dissection which involves dissecting a dead human body and determining the fat percentage. In
vivo or indirect, doubly indirect methods do not measure body composition directly, however

One of many debatable topics nationwide today are the origins of sexual orientation. According to
the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, a leading sexual and reproductive health care

Similarities and Differences between Labor Organizations
Labor Organizations 1. Discuss the similarities and differences between at least three labor
organizations discussed in Chapter 3. The Knights of Labor was a standard labor union
comprised of individual workers across the nation. They were inclusive in terms, employing
both skilled workers in crafts industries as well as unskilled laborers such as coalminers.
(Rayback, 1966, p. 168). They had limited political objectives such as the eight hour workday
and the prohibition of child and convict labor. Their broader objectives were social: to improve
the image and social status of the working man. The AFL was not a labor organization, but a
federation of affiliated labor unions. (Dubofsky Foster, 2004, p. 138). The AFL was exclusive,
accepting skilled workers in crafts industries and skilled workers in industry. The AFL s goals
were economic, they provided financial and political support for affiliated labor unions in
contract negotiations with employers. (Dubofsky Foster, 2004, p. 139). The political objectives
they did pursue usually had to do with the nature of labor negotiations. The IWW was neither a
traditional labor union or a federation of labor unions, but a labor union comprised with many
members of other labor organizations. (Dubofsky Foster, 2004, p. 195). The IWW was extremely
inclusive, accepting most skilled and unskilled labor, most notably migrant farmworkers.

The Oppression Of Women In To The Odyssey And To The...
We see gender roles described in The Odyssey and To The Lighthouse that seem to share some
similar ideas; however, the women in To The Lighthouse are more opressed than the women of
The Odyssey. First, women in the Odyssey are typically submissive to men in house duties and
marriage matters, like Telemachus telling his mother to get back to her loom in Book 1 and him
deciding who his mother will marry in Book 2. Also, women are seen only by their identity of who
their father or husband is, like the ghosts of women who approach Odysseusat the gates of the

the oppression in the 1920s, saying women s silliness made being civilized

The Differences Between The And Of The Christian Realist...
The different Christian views struggle with the brokenness of human nature. The difference in
views lies in how this brokenness is interpreted. How does one balance the human being who is
born in the image and likeness of God, yet, has fallen from grace? The two distinct views will
revolve around seeking answers to this question, and what is the best way to act on these answers in
dealing with the broken human. It becomes a question of mercy and grace in this world versus a
constant searching by the human, which only ends in the presence of God. The latter reflects the
view of the Christian Realist.
The philosopher and father of the Christian Realist position, Reinhold Niebuhr, argues that
Augustine s City of God lays the foundation for the Christian realist thought. It is in this work that
Augustine presents a realistic view of humankind that was in contrast with the classical view of the
human being. The latter s view idealized human s unlimited potential because of their ability to
reason. Niebuhr argues that this difference in the viewpoints of Augustine and the classical
philosophers lies in Augustine s biblical, rather than rationalistic, conception of human selfhood
with the ancillary conception of the seat of evil being in the self (Niebuhr, Christian Realism and
Political Problems 123 124). It is from this concept that Niebuhr argues that human nature is evil as
a result of sin. This sinful nature of the human has forever shaped his movements. It drives his

Negative Images In Technicolor
Television has been used for decades to shape the human psyche. It has also played a major role
in the development of American lives, and at times we fail to notice. People are sheep. TV is

television as an escape route, a tube to pull us away from the pains of our true reality, but what
are we escaping? TV is a hypnotic box of propaganda, used to program American morals and

that our minds are being controlled on a massive scale psychologically, is because our culture has

one s life as well as the tribulations that he and others went through once liberated. Author s
Arguments Frankl believes several things, and he shares these theories with his readers. First of
all; the basic concept of Logotherapy is that if one finds a purpose or a meaning in their life they
can endure anything. He supports this many times over with specific examples. He was forced to
dig trenches in freezing cold weather without adequate clothing and shoes. The shoes might be
too tight causing pain and blisters, he may have no socks, or the shoes might have holes in them,
allowing the ice and snow to get against his skin. He states that he got through these long, painful
days by thinking about the beauty of nature or thoughts of his wife. He focused on the unlikely
fact that his wife might be alive, giving him the will to live. Other times, while at another camp
where he worked as the only doctor caring for 52 sick and dying patients, he himself was on the
brink of starvation and typhus and he did not give up. He felt that it was his duty to care for these

he seizes her wrist and pulls her (Edmundson, 51) away from Phillip that Maggie realizes that

The Film Hamlet By William Shakespeare
The film Hamlet by William Shakespeare was made by two directors in two different versions
which one was Kenneth Branagh and the other Franco Zeffirelli. By watching the four scenes of
the play of the two versions, the viewer has come up to the conclusion that Kenneth Branagh s
version best captures the essence of the play in terms of costume design, acting, directing, and
cinematography. The directing and cinematography in Act IV, Scene V the Ophelia Madness Scene
as well as the acting, costume design in Act V, Scene II the Final Scene showed that Branagh s
version of the film Hamletis the most effective.
Branagh s use of directing in Act IV, Scene V in the Ophelia Madness Scene helped best to
present the scene in a most effective way. Ophelia has gone mad due to her father s loss, people
have been suspicious and disturbed by the death as well. Laertes who is Ophelia s sister has
come back from France with a mob of commoners who they call Laertes lord and people say that
Laertes shall become king. He enters the hall with an eager ready to avenge his father s death,
Claudius the king tries to calm him down by acknowledging that Polonius is dead. The director in
Branagh s version provided a padded cell for Ophelia where it shows that she really has gone
insane and when she entered the hall, began singing about chaos, death, and unsatisfied love. The

The Was A Death Camp Built During Wwii
Treblinka was a death camp built during WWII, its purpose was for the plan called

So far there are many international human resources management models known, the most used
are: the Perlmutter Model, The Adler Ghadar Model, the Taylor Model and the Geert Hofstede
Model.
a.The Perlmutter model
In this model, Perlmutter gives 4 modalities on which multinational companies can manage their
human resources activities on an international level. Those modalities are: ethnocentrism,
polycentrism, geo centrism, and region centrism. This Model shows how every multinational
company can develop and implement human resources strategies and policies at a level of daughter
companies in a host country. Besides the Perlmutter Model is a comparative management model
since it helps to identify the differences and resemblance, advantages and disadvantages between
the four (4) approaches a company can use to manage its human resources activities at an
international level.
b.The Adler Ghadar Model
For Adler N.J and Ghadar F., when multinational companies develop their activities at an
international level they have to concentrate their effort on many aspects of organizational
development. Therefore the authors have identified four stages of development of an organization.
The first stage happens at a national level, the second stage is at international level while the third
and fourth stages are at a Multinational level and global level respectively. The table below
describes well the process: Stage 1

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Oprah Winfrey s Speech
Speech Analysis On Friday May 11th, 2018 Oprah Winfrey addressed the University of Southern
California s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism in Los Angeles. What are you
willing to stand for? was the question, she asked the captivated crowd inside the Shrine
Auditorium, she proceeded to say that it is going to follow you for the rest of your life. For much
of her politically charged and inspirational speech, she rallied the group of more than nine hundred
students graduating with degrees in journalism, public relations, and communications to fight for
the truth, to remember their principles and to always be honest. The media mogul urged the
graduates to be the truth in a world where you can t go anywhere she stated that... Show more

Winfrey also went on to say that we are all becoming hysterical, and it s getting worse. I believe
this is true because there is so much going on for humans with the media and the internet people
are becoming more hysterical, before when we didn t have all these things influencing us life was
much simpler. Ms. Winfrey encouraged her audience to pick a problem, any problem, and do
something about it. she said. Use your gifts to illuminate the darkness in the world. Oprah Winfrey
mentioned to the group of Graduates to become the new editorial gatekeepers, an ambitious
army of truth seekers who will arm themselves intelligence, with the insight and with the facts
necessary to strike down deceit. She told them that they are the ones who are going to keep the
people in the media who share false news in check. I love how she also shared stories about her
mentor, the late Maya Angelou who was a poet an academy winning author, actress and civil
right activist. Oprah Winfrey stated that when she opened The Oprah Winfrey Leadership
Academy for Girls in South Africa back in 2007 that will be her greatest legacy. She said I

and said, imitating Angelou s deep voice You have no idea what your legacy will be, You have no

The Darkling Thrush And The Force That Through The Green...
Natural instances are prominent in Hardy s The Darkling Thrush and Thomas s The Force That
Through the Green Fuse Drives the Flower . Hardy reminisces over the past while witnessing a
changing society while Thomas reminisces over the certain destruction of his youth and
vitality, even with different concerns both authors problems are due to passing time. Both
poems have a certain contrast when explaining their theme but both are aware of the idea of
death being a natural occurrence that awaits all of us. The two author s similarities are
highlighted by a look at form, tone, words, and continuous use of nature to depict theme. In The
Darkling Thrush the speaker ponders how slow death surrounds him, and how life is
diminishing with almost no reason to live in a new era full of dullness. The speaker shows
intense reflection over his thoughts and works through his ideas. When the speaker hears a
beautiful song coming from a dying bird, his dark realistic perspective of living changes as he
sees that the birds last breaths were spent singing a song. He continues to be realistic over the
topic of death and not overthink the full hearted evensong (Hardy 615), but the bird gives him a
chance to think about something more hopeful in this bleak world. The bird, a thrush which is
found in nature symbolizes the natural side of death. Even if it was passing, the bird reflected his
soul in song creating the idea of a death just being a lulling moment in a gloom lonely world;

Mersault s The Stranger
It is the beginning of the book. We know nothing of the plot that is to come, nothing of the narrator
Mersault, and nothing of his eventual demise. The Stranger could have begun with Mersault
introducing himself, or with a description of the setting, but instead it began with the following
quote: Maman died today. Or yesterday maybe, I don t know. I got a telegram from the home:
Mother deceased. Funeral tomorrow. Faithfully ours. That doesn t mean anything. Maybe it was
yesterday.
And that is how The Stranger begins, and Mersault is introduced. This line manages to summarize a
large portion of Mersault s personality in a minimal amount of words. Mersault expresses that the
telegram doesn t mean anything, which at first seems absurd since it clearly informed him of his
mother s death. What is important to realize, is that this statement is in fact true, because Mersault
is focusing on when his mother died, not the fact that she passed away. Due to Mersault s distance
from his mother, both logistically and mentally, her death means nothing to Mersault. What he
seems to be interested in, is when she died. This is evident by the fact that he opens and closes the
paragraph by questioning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Big Bang Theory False
The Big Bang theory was an explosion that happened about 13,600 million years ago at the
beginning of the Universe. This theory is the explanation on how the Universe was formed and
most scientists believe in this theory. But, multiple people believe that this theory is inaccurate or
false. Even though they believe it s false, there are various pieces of evidence that proves that this
theory is true. Since we cannot assume that we have a special place in the universethis is evidence
for a generally expanding universe. It suggests that everything is moving away from everything
else. The Big BangTheory says that this expansion started billions of years ago with an explosion

Scientists discovered that there are microwaves coming from every direction in space. Big Bang
Theory says this is energy created at the beginning of the universe, just after the Big Bang, and
that has been travelling through space ever since (BBC Stars and the origins of the Universe).
This quote states that there are microwaves going in every direction in space, and that the
microwaves are tied to one of the Big Bangs sayings. One of the sayings was that energy was
created at the beginning of the universe after the event of the explosion. So, since microwaves
were coming from space after the explosion it helps prove that the theory is correct. In addition, the
microwave radiation is also known as cosmic microwave background radiation. These radiations
that travels through all of space helps show that the cosmic microwave background radiation
supports the Big Bang theory. Lastly, After the Big Bang scientists discovered a heat signature of
3K. This had shocked scientists because in space the temperature is always at 0K, but after seeing
the heat signature of 3K it helped support the Big

The Advertisements For Gucci s Perfume And Calvin Klein
According to Miya Yamanouchi, the author of Embrace Your Sexual Self, Both men and women
experience pressure to conform to social standards of attractiveness. Men to look strong and be
tough, women to look pretty and soft. Stereotypes affect every gender in the society because
people have a prejudice on themselves and others. In Men s Men and Women s Women, written by
Steve Craig, addresses the expectations that the society places on men and women. For instance,
men must be masculine and wealthy and women must have a perfect body shape with beautiful
facial features to be considered as attractive. Nowadays, the advertisements are taking advantage of
such a social norm to lure consumers to purchase their goods. The advertisements for Gucci s
perfume and Calvin Klein s cologne are especially good examples to demonstrate such pressure and
reflect the consumers psychological behavior. The advertisements highlight genderstereotypes
through utilizing the impression of opposite sex and incorporate an underlying sense of sexism
through the designs of the backgrounds, the purpose of wearing fragrances and the reinforcements
on Women s Men and Men s Men; these advertisements contribute to the consumers perception of
their physical appearance by delivering a fraudulent image of perfection through their models.
The effects of the chosen background designs of Gucci s and Calvin Klein s advertisements

African American Superiority
When African Americans first arrived in American colonies in 1619, religion and wealth were
the determining factors of superiority. Most labor was performed by indentured servants of
European decent at this time. However as immigrant arrivals slowed and the need for labor
increased, African American slaves were shipped over and considered to be a never ending
supply of labor. Colonial law and statues began to use the word White opposed to Englishmen or
Christians to show superiority. Lower class Europeans thus obtained more rights and had access to
better job opportunities as they were replaced by the inferior African Americans. At this time
African Americans were believed to be a different species while Natives were considered to be

Theory of Mind Essay
Describe what evolutionary psychologists mean when they employ the term theory of mind . Use
examples and research studies from Book 1, Chapter 2 to show why this theory is important in
evolutionary psychology.
Evolutionary psychology is a specialist field within the spectrum of psychological enquiry, which
seeks to examine and understand some of the predominant reasoning behind the concept of why the
human species, whilst biologically similar to other species on the planet, is so very distinct in terms
of intelligence and mental progression; demonstrated by the multifaceted and complex social
structures we have created. Primary to this domain of evolutionary psychological interest is the
notion of theory of mind , which was developed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example would be the assumption that because someone is sleeping, they are tired. Counter
deception involves an individual separating the overt actions of another from what their actual
motivation for behaving in that particular way is. This could be seen in the form of reverse
psychology . Recognition of intervening variables understands how certain events and situations
can cause particular reactions and responses from others. An example of this would be a fight
situation, where the attacked party could well feel afraid, and as a result run away. The final
variation of mind reading is that of experience projection; which allows individuals to apply their
personal experiences onto other people. For example, someone who broke their leg and
experienced the pain, would be able to empathise with another individual who they saw break their
leg.
In 1988, Premack carried out a research study which would appear to support the notion of the
theory of mind . In his study, which was centred on an adult chimpanzee called Sarah; he exposed
her to videotapes of an actor with a problem, namely an inability to reach some bananas that were
placed out of reach overhead. He then proceeded to show Sarah a number of photographed
solutions to the problem, only one of which actually evidenced a successful solution to the problem,
(in this situation, it was stepping on a

Social Strain Theory And Rational Choice Theory In...
Criminology is an interdisciplinary science that gathers and analyzes data on crime and criminal
behavior. As I learned about criminology I learned that there are several theories that come
along with it. The two theories in criminology that stood out the most to me were social strain
theory and rational choice theory. These theories stood out to me because I felt like these were
two that I can truly see how the people who developed them came about. Social strain theory was
created by Robert Merton in the 1940s. Robert Merton is a very famous sociologist who
accomplished a lot throughout his career. He spent a lot of his time studying at Colombia
University. He also was the first sociologist that received a National Medal of Science Award.
Merton came up with the strain theory as an explanation as to why crimerate was so high. Rational
choice theorywas created by Ronald Clarke and Derek Cornish. Ronald Clarke was a professor who
severed as a dean at the School of Criminal Justice. He was there was longer than a decade. Clarke
also had a very successful career. An important and most noted part of his career is him being given
the highest award in criminology. The highest awards was the Stockholm Prize in Criminology.
Clarke has also written several books and help developed several things in Britain s government.
Cornish worked in the department of social science at London School of Economics. Rational
choice theory was created to explain why and how every human who commits a crime is faced
with a choice.
Theory A
Social Strain Theory is one of the many theories in criminology. According to our textbook, the
definition of social strain theory better known as strain theory is that crime is generated from the
acceptance of middle class values that emphasize financial success while certain segments of the
population are restricted from attaining monetary success by legitimate means. Essentially this
means that everybody does not have the same opportunities. It means that sometimes people do
want to achieve more but it hard for them. As you grow, one of the main things you are taught as a
child is the American Dream. The dream that tells you one day you will be successful with a
family and good job to support.

The U.s. Constitution s National Government And...
The U.S. Constitution was created to establish America s national government and fundamental
laws in order to guarantee the citizen s rights. It was signed on September 17, 1787 at the
Constitutional Convention held in Philadelphia. Before the Constitution was written, the Articles
of Confederation is what America was governed by. Under the Articles of Confederation, the nation
was weak and the states were run like they were independent countries. At the Philadelphia
Convention, delegates formulated a plan to have a stronger government by having three branches
and a system of checks and balances. This would ensure that no single branch would obtain too
much power. Many people today have different views on

This simply means that he believes that the constitution should be interpreted literally. Throughout
the course of this paper, I will explain the similarities and the differences that are presented with
each of these different views and what my opinions of these views are at the end. Stephen
Breyer s viewpoint is strictly democratic. Literalism has a tendency to undermine the
Constitution s efforts to create a framework for democratic government (510) is a quote that
explains Breyer s view very well. Breyer looks at the constitutional purposes and consequences
saying that they need to first look at what the original law was intended to do and prevent. On the
other side of that, they also want to look at the punishments that went along with each policy.
Breyer argues that any question you have about the original text can be answered by looking at
what the original law was intended for. He said this, A focus on purpose seeks to promote active
liberty by insisting on interpretations, statutory as well as constitutional, that are consistent with the
people s will (514). If you are going to resolve the problems that arise in a governmental setting,
you must have a better grasp on democratic objective. You need to understand original democracy
and why the laws were put in place, in order to understand the textual meeting of the original
constitution. He believes that the original text is not enough to go off of if you do not have an
understanding of the context

The World During World War I
The world experienced life changing inventions and events during the time of World War I, such
occurrences influenced the literature and the authors of the time. The time the war took place,
the world experienced technological advancements at an unimaginable pace. In addition to
technology, the war also changed the fashion in which society worked. Women became more
independent as more jobs were offered to them in order to aid the war cause. In addition,
countries such as England experienced extreme poverty during and after the First World War
occurred. This shaped the manner in which the people thought about their lives and their
governments. Furthermore, a significant amount of the men of England were sent to fight in
the war. The battlefront, along with to horrible health conditions, lead to an immense death
count of men in the battle field. Such changes in the world as well as society inspired several
works of art and literature at the time. Artist and writers wrote about the war and its effect on
the people. Their works reflected the perspective of civilians and soldiers alike in order to relate
to the public. Such artists include Siegfried Sassoon, Isaac Rosenberg, and William Yeats, who
wrote about the war abroad as well as in their home country, England. The works of Siegfried
Sassoon, Isaac Rosenberg, and William Yeats were affected by events, ideologies, and experiences
from the period of World War I

Red Bull s Marketing Strategy

Topic Red Bull s Marketing Strategy
Thesis How does Red Bull use events in extreme sports to make their product popular around the
world?
Rationale Red Bull is a global player and almost everyone has tried their drink before. But Red Bull
does so much more than just supplying the un energized part of society with the power to get
through the day. The Austrian company is one of the most successful ones when it comes to
marketing their brand even the people that don t enjoy sipping their cool energy drink know that
Red Bull gives you wings .
But what does one do with all the energy you get from drinking a can of Red Bull? What the
company has focused on is sponsoring events celebrating extreme sports and using this buzz as
sources for marketing.
The best example happened on October 14th, 2012, when Felix Baumgartner set a new world
record for the highest sky diving jump. He defied death by jumping from 128,000 feet and flying at
a speed of approximately 850 miles per hour all sponsored by Red Bull.
Researching about this extreme marketing stunt, I realized wanted to analyze how Red Bull uses
marketing, sponsoring and events to create buzz around their product all around the world.

  • 2. How Does Montresor Plan To Kill Fortunato The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as best I could; but when he ventured upon insult, I vowed revenge. ... I must not only punish, but punish with impunity. (Poe, 233) Some of Montresor s very first words when he is telling the story show that he wants revenge against Fortunato. By saying, I must not only punish, but punish with impunity, it is shown that he intends to get away with the deed he plans to commit. It must be understood that neither by word not deed had I given Fortunato cause to doubt my goodwill. I continued, as was my wont, to smile in his face, and he did not perceive that my smile now was at the thought of his immolation. (Poe, 234) By this point in the story, Montresor is clearly planning to kill Fortunato. While to Fortunato he appears friendly and cheerful, he is secretly thinking of ways to murder his friend. Montresor does not want Fortunato to suspect anything, as is shown in the sentence, It must be understood that neither by word not deed had I given Fortunato cause to doubt my goodwill. ... • 3. The Cause that Led to the Beginning of the Peloponnesian... The Cause that Led to the Beginning of the Peloponnesian War Ancient Greece during 4th Century BC was home to the city states of Sparta and Athens, who during this time were the superpowers of the region. The Peloponnesian war between these city states and their respective allies lasted from 431 404 BC, although conflicts between the two had dated back further. Major fighting in the war occurred from 431 421 and ended in Athenian victory. However, renewed conflict raged between 413 and 404 which resulted in Spartan victory. The Peloponnesian war between Athens and Sparta evolved from a string of events which I am going to look at to see if there was a single cause for this war. In 435 BC ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Potidaea was a member of the Delian League, Athens and her allies, it had maintained the right to receive magistrates from its mother city every year. Tired of paying tribute to Athens and resentful of Athenian rule the citizens of Potidaea supported a revolt to expel Athenian power. Both sides sent forces to Potidaea and once again Athenians were battling with Corinthians. Due to aiding the people of Potidaea, Corinth faced an embargo by Athens which enraged Sparta. Any appeals to Athens to stop the embargo were ignored, forcing the Spartans to coviene the Peloponnesian council and lead the two cities one more step closer to war. Thucydides wrote the growth of the power of Athens and the alarm which this inspired (in Sparta) made war inevitable. This comment shows another element that contributed to the cause of the Peloponnesian war. After the Persian wars, there was a development of Athenian control when the Delian league was formed which was an alliance of cities based around Athens. Each city contributed funds to help maintain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Similarities and Differences of Hilter and Napolean Founder and leader of the Nazi party, who many describe to be the most insane and trouble causing man in the history of the entire world. Adolf Hitler s goal was to make Germany the strongest country in the world, which he did, along with most of Europe. His armies of over sixteen million men were standing by his side the whole way. Although he had a large group of followers, he also had an even larger group of people who were against him. Adolf felt that if he did not remove all of the Jews from the face of the earth, he would have been seen as a failure, so he tried, and he tried, and he tried. But in the end, he failed. This then led to him believing that he was a failure, which then led to him shooting himself in the mouth.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Besides the fact that he conquered Moscow, the Russians did not surrender. Instead, they burned the city before the French got there, so the shelter and supplies that Napoleon was counting on were destroyed. So, his army had to retreat back to Germany, while being chased and hunted by the Russians. The whole Russian campaign ended up as a complete failure. He lost almost all of his 500,000 men that he had started with. In 1810, he divorced Josephine and married the daughter of the Austrian Emperor, Marie Louise, in a last attempt to improve relations. Upon his return to France, the Prussians, Russians, Swedish, and the British started the War of Liberation against him. His army was soon forced over the Rhine at the Battle of Leipzig. However, the allied armies did not accept the plan and they demanded that the brother of Louis XVI, Louis XVIII, be put on the throne. Napoleon was sent to rule the Island of Elba in 1813 with the British Navy guarding the Island. But, in 1815, he returned to Paris and his old armies quickly gathered around him, already sick of the new king. The allies were threatening to invade France again since they heard of the return of Napoleon, so he quickly organized a new army and marched them into Belgium to meet the British and Prussian armies. In Ligny, he defeated the Prussians and then marched to Waterloo to meet the British under Wellington. At first, he was doing well in the battle. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Single, Comprehensive Solution For Environmental Challenges A single, comprehensive solution to environmental challenges does not exist. The subject matter of the environment is interdisciplinary and entails diverse sets of strategies and solutions. Historically, collective action solutions have focused on conventional governmental regulations or privatization. It operates under the assumption that under the established apparatus of government and private institutions, individuals could join cooperative efforts and contribute to the cause. Hardin argued for the centralized administration of resources by governmental agencies or the privatization of the commons and allow the private enterprise to manage the common as it sees fit (Hardin 1968). Nobel prizing winning economist, Elinor Ostrom disputed such claims, asserting that governments have large agendas and cannot consider local environmental problems and some resources such as water and air cannot be privatized. Ostrom insists that the state or the market cannot be successful in ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources (Ostrom 1990). According to Ostrom and her research, an alternative approach to the problem of the commons is community mobilization, or polycentric governance. The alternative approach is characterized by multiple cooperative independent institutions organized and governed under a general system of rules. The citizens and officials of the community all come together to jointly chart the priorities and management of their local resources, while balancing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The fifth edition of DSM, however, defined trauma as extreme threatening and distressing events involving actual or threatened death, serious injury, or sexual violence. Undeniably, the concept and origin of PTSD were more distinctly shown during the First World War, but actually there are evidences present that the concept and origin of PTSD has occurred prior to the First World War. • 9. Similarities Between Mary Shelley And Mary Wollstonecraft The differences and similarities in the life of Mary Shelley and Mary Wollstonecraft in their roles as feminist According to Greenblatt, in early English history, women were restricted in doing so many things that men were free to do. Women were provided with limited education and provided with a rigid code of sexual behavior especially after marriage. During this period, (the Romantic period) women were strictly distinguished from their male counterparts and were given strict roles such as child bearing, household keeping and nothing more (9). According to Cervo (1988), Mary Wollstonecraft and her daughter Shelly were two very existential women because they existed as women and were surrounded by weak and/or dishonest men who were unsure of themselves and the meaning and role of their sexuality in the real world (17). It is quiet surprising that Mary Shelley, daughter of a renowned feminist Mary Wollstonecraft would write her novel from the perspective of three men with very small attention to the female character (Davis, 1992). In the course of this essay, I would talk about the similarities between Mary Shelley and her mother Mary Wollstonecraft and differences that existed between them in their roles as far as women rights were concerned. According to Greenblatt, Mary Wollstonecraft, was the second of five children and the oldest daughter and most often she witnessed the brutality of her father towards her mother (208). I imagine growing in that situation was never ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Essay On Health Information Exchange Introduction I will be focusing on defining a Health Information Exchange, including the aspects of the various formats; how Health Information Exchanges developed over time, including the hurdles that had to be overcome; and where Health Information Exchanges are heading, along with expected hurdles and improvements. The development has been much slower than expectations, but the future looks promising. What is HIE? Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) share patient information between health care providers in order to improve the speed, quality, safety, and cost of patient care. By sharing data, physicians improve their decision making, as well as reduce readmissions, avoid medication errors, improve diagnoses, and decrease duplicate testing. Aside from these benefits, the use of electronic data requires healthcare providers to standardize their data. There are three forms of exchanges the direct exchange, query based exchange,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This service, once the patient is identified, searches for the existence of records within the exchange. This form of information retrieval would be very helpful to the care of a patient, most specifically in the case of emergency care (Morris, 2012). The Emergency Dept could begin a query at the time of triage to build a problem list, allergy list, medication list, current physicians and ongoing treatments. The costs associated with developing a record locator service, and the questionable sustainability in a market lacking interoperability between the available EHRs, have impeded the development of this form of exchange (Rudin,2014).It has been difficult for HIEs using this format to reach their tipping point to become self sustaining. There are several determinants driving the success of Query based HIOs the need for a broader set of clinical data, more diverse and high volumes of data, obtaining relevant users that need the database, and utilization rates (Morris, ... • 11. Problems with the Japanese Whaling Industry The Japanese whaling industry has thrived and flourished since its origin. The Japanese have depended on whales such as the blue, fin, sei, and humpback whales. The issue at hand is that the demand for whale products and byproducts is so large that the numbers of these types of whales has declined to near extinction levels. Without any care to the harm being done, the Japanese whalingindustry has not shown any sign of remorse towards this actions little has been done by the international community s to put an end to the elimination of these large and peaceful creatures. There have been small groups of anti whaling conservation. The groups have had many victories along the way by using their non traditional methods and sometimes generating violent tension between them and the whaling ships while in international waters. Summary This topic has generated research and observation in order to understand both sides of the whaling industry in Japan. First must take a look to the history and background of the topic. The oldest Japanese book in existence, called the Kojiki, chronicled that the Emperor Jimmu, the first emperor of Japan, ate whale meat (History of Japanese Whaling, 2013). Due to over 1,000 years of whaling in Japan, It has not been an easy task for the Japanese people to ease up on this addiction to whale products. For centuries this industry has remained strong until recently attacks by conservation groups. The international community has created the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For the silk roads, Roman and Egyptian Jews would travel through the silk roads as they were the most common traders. Although for the Indian ocean Muslim traders had dominated the sea. The world s shipping lanes was the Indian ocean during the years 1100 1500 A.D, as Arab sailors soon were masters of the sea trade in the ocean. When northern groups had taken over parts of silk routes, sea trades were taken as they were alternate paths. This resulted in Chinese becoming masters of ship building and merchants creating new trade routes and a new credit system. When the Song dynasty came, silk roads were becoming less common in use of trade as sea trades were becoming more common as they were much cheaper and safer. • 13. Poor Ethnic Groups Poor ethnic groups in the United StatesAccording to the Census Bureau one in seven people in the United States live in poverty. Today, more than 45 million people in the United States are living in poverty. Those 45 million people in poverty are constantly struggling with getting nutritious food, safe shelter, and proper clothing for the weather. Throughout the United States, there is a dilemma that certain ethnic groups are in deeper poverty than another. Here we will look into why one ethnic group is better off than the next. The United States uses the Census Bureau to determine which ethnic groups are in poverty. Using an economic poverty measure calculating the minimum amount of income needed to meet the basic needs. This varies my family size and compensation also. The four groups we will look into are African American, Hispanic, white, and Asian doing this will determine why each group is in more poverty than another. According to the Census Bureau, African Americans make up roughly 22% of the poverty rate, annually making an average of $39,490 a year. This is the lowest poverty rate out of all of the ethnic groups. Why is it that African Americans have a higher poverty rate than others? While a move may be stressful for adults, it can be even more traumatic for children, as they are most likely not a part of the decision to move, and might not understand it. Many children thrive on familiarity and routine, which a move severely disrupts. Therefore, when considering a move, it is important to weigh the benefits against the comfort that familiar surroundings provide a child. The Knights of Labor was a standard labor union comprised of individual workers across the nation. They had limited political objectives such as the eight hour workday and the prohibition of child and convict labor. Their broader objectives were social: to improve the image and social status of the working man. The AFL was not a labor organization, but a federation of affiliated labor unions. • 30. The Differences Between The And Of The Christian Realist... The different Christian views struggle with the brokenness of human nature. The difference in views lies in how this brokenness is interpreted. How does one balance the human being who is born in the image and likeness of God, yet, has fallen from grace? The two distinct views will revolve around seeking answers to this question, and what is the best way to act on these answers in dealing with the broken human. It becomes a question of mercy and grace in this world versus a constant searching by the human, which only ends in the presence of God. The latter reflects the view of the Christian Realist. The philosopher and father of the Christian Realist position, Reinhold Niebuhr, argues that Augustine s City of God lays the foundation for the Christian realist thought. It is in this work that Augustine presents a realistic view of humankind that was in contrast with the classical view of the human being. The latter s view idealized human s unlimited potential because of their ability to reason. Niebuhr argues that this difference in the viewpoints of Augustine and the classical philosophers lies in Augustine s biblical, rather than rationalistic, conception of human selfhood with the ancillary conception of the seat of evil being in the self (Niebuhr, Christian Realism and Political Problems 123 124). His book details many examples of his theory and how it has helped many people improve their life, survive tragedies, as well as documents how it kept him alive throughout three years of physical and mental suffering while imprisoned. He also discusses how to find the meaning in one s life as well as the tribulations that he and others went through once liberated. Author s Arguments Frankl believes several things, and he shares these theories with his readers. First of all; the basic concept of Logotherapy is that if one finds a purpose or a meaning in their life they can endure anything. He supports this many times over with specific examples. He was forced to dig trenches in freezing cold weather without adequate clothing and shoes. The shoes might be too tight causing pain and blisters, he may have no socks, or the shoes might have holes in them, allowing the ice and snow to get against his skin. He states that he got through these long, painful days by thinking about the beauty of nature or thoughts of his wife. He focused on the unlikely fact that his wife might be alive, giving him the will to live. Other times, while at another camp where he worked as the only doctor caring for 52 sick and dying patients, he himself was on the brink of starvation and typhus and he did not give up. He felt that it was his duty to care for these people, keep them comfortable and give them the best that he could at the time with minimal resources. There might have ... In The Mill on the Floss, written by Helen Edmundson, Tom was the most influential person in shaping Maggie because she loved him greatly. Each time she changes herself it is triggered by Tom s actions and each version of Maggie portrays a different aspect of Tom s influences. Ultimately, Tom is the reason that Maggie changes herself this can be seen in many of their interactions. From the beginning of the play, it can be seen how much love Maggie holds for Tom. She was always completely affectionate towards, often running up to him and kissing him. This is the first time in the play where she begins to speak for herself against Tom, at least at the end of the scene. It first starts out with her a Phillip professing their love for each other then Tom interrupting and demanding Maggie choose between them (Edmundson, 49 51). It is not until he seizes her wrist and pulls her (Edmundson, 51) away from Phillip that Maggie realizes that Tom is a bad influence on her. She realizes how he has never shown her the affection and love that she always willingly gave to him. At this point, she breaks from her submissive self to stand up to Tom. Maggie becomes version that falls in between First and Second Maggie: she is more certain of herself and settled into who she is. He is the one that forces her to change into this new person with renewed views on the world. Even though this Third Maggie has distanced herself from Tom, she still feels indebted to him. She seeks him out to ask permission to see Phillip after all this time. Tom still has power over her with the promise she made years ago that she cannot break. This promise would be the easiest to break without Tom even knowing what is going on because she has distanced herself from him. In this moment, when she has the upper hand of the situation, Maggie still puts herself beneath Tom and submits to his will. She says to him, I do love you, so much. The Film Hamlet By William Shakespeare The film Hamlet by William Shakespeare was made by two directors in two different versions which one was Kenneth Branagh and the other Franco Zeffirelli. By watching the four scenes of the play of the two versions, the viewer has come up to the conclusion that Kenneth Branagh s version best captures the essence of the play in terms of costume design, acting, directing, and cinematography. The directing and cinematography in Act IV, Scene V the Ophelia Madness Scene as well as the acting, costume design in Act V, Scene II the Final Scene showed that Branagh s version of the film Hamletis the most effective. Branagh s use of directing in Act IV, Scene V in the Ophelia Madness Scene helped best to present the scene in a most effective way. Ophelia has gone mad due to her father s loss, people have been suspicious and disturbed by the death as well. Laertes who is Ophelia s sister has come back from France with a mob of commoners who they call Laertes lord and people say that Laertes shall become king. He enters the hall with an eager ready to avenge his father s death, Claudius the king tries to calm him down by acknowledging that Polonius is dead. Natural instances are prominent in Hardy s The Darkling Thrush and Thomas s The Force That Through the Green Fuse Drives the Flower . Hardy reminisces over the past while witnessing a changing society while Thomas reminisces over the certain destruction of his youth and vitality, even with different concerns both authors problems are due to passing time. Both poems have a certain contrast when explaining their theme but both are aware of the idea of death being a natural occurrence that awaits all of us. The two author s similarities are highlighted by a look at form, tone, words, and continuous use of nature to depict theme. In The Darkling Thrush the speaker ponders how slow death surrounds him, and how life is diminishing with almost no reason to live in a new era full of dullness. The speaker shows intense reflection over his thoughts and works through his ideas. When the speaker hears a beautiful song coming from a dying bird, his dark realistic perspective of living changes as he sees that the birds last breaths were spent singing a song. He continues to be realistic over the topic of death and not overthink the full hearted evensong (Hardy 615), but the bird gives him a chance to think about something more hopeful in this bleak world. Or yesterday maybe, I don t know. I got a telegram from the home: Mother deceased. Funeral tomorrow. Faithfully ours. That doesn t mean anything. Maybe it was yesterday. And that is how The Stranger begins, and Mersault is introduced. This line manages to summarize a large portion of Mersault s personality in a minimal amount of words. Mersault expresses that the telegram doesn t mean anything, which at first seems absurd since it clearly informed him of his mother s death. What is important to realize, is that this statement is in fact true, because Mersault is focusing on when his mother died, not the fact that she passed away. An example would be the assumption that because someone is sleeping, they are tired. Counter deception involves an individual separating the overt actions of another from what their actual motivation for behaving in that particular way is. This could be seen in the form of reverse psychology . Recognition of intervening variables understands how certain events and situations can cause particular reactions and responses from others. An example of this would be a fight situation, where the attacked party could well feel afraid, and as a result run away. The final variation of mind reading is that of experience projection; which allows individuals to apply their personal experiences onto other people. For example, someone who broke their leg and experienced the pain, would be able to empathise with another individual who they saw break their leg. In 1988, Premack carried out a research study which would appear to support the notion of the theory of mind . • 51. Social Strain Theory And Rational Choice Theory In... Criminology is an interdisciplinary science that gathers and analyzes data on crime and criminal behavior. As I learned about criminology I learned that there are several theories that come along with it. The two theories in criminology that stood out the most to me were social strain theory and rational choice theory. These theories stood out to me because I felt like these were two that I can truly see how the people who developed them came about. Social strain theory was created by Robert Merton in the 1940s. Robert Merton is a very famous sociologist who accomplished a lot throughout his career. He spent a lot of his time studying at Colombia University. He also was the first sociologist that received a National Medal of Science Award. Merton came up with the strain theory as an explanation as to why crimerate was so high. Rational choice theorywas created by Ronald Clarke and Derek Cornish. Ronald Clarke was a professor who severed as a dean at the School of Criminal Justice. He was there was longer than a decade. Clarke also had a very successful career. An important and most noted part of his career is him being given the highest award in criminology. The highest awards was the Stockholm Prize in Criminology. Clarke has also written several books and help developed several things in Britain s government. Cornish worked in the department of social science at London School of Economics. Rational choice theory was created to explain why and how every human who commits a crime is faced with a choice. Theory A Social Strain Theory is one of the many theories in criminology. According to our textbook, the definition of social strain theory better known as strain theory is that crime is generated from the acceptance of middle class values that emphasize financial success while certain segments of the population are restricted from attaining monetary success by legitimate means. Essentially this means that everybody does not have the same opportunities. It means that sometimes people do want to achieve more but it hard for them. Literalism has a tendency to undermine the Constitution s efforts to create a framework for democratic government (510) is a quote that explains Breyer s view very well. Breyer looks at the constitutional purposes and consequences saying that they need to first look at what the original law was intended to do and prevent. On the other side of that, they also want to look at the punishments that went along with each policy. Breyer argues that any question you have about the original text can be answered by looking at what the original law was intended for.
