Imperial Dominance In Canada
England/Britain and France were involved in many epic struggles for imperial dominance in the
colonial North America between c. 1600 and 1763. They had many ways that they had to shape early
Canada to who it is today. Without these features the shaping of Canada would be completely
different. It has shaped in ways which can be in from the fur trade and how it build up the
relationships with the indigenous people and as well as Treaty of Utrecht and Paris.
Fur Trade in Canada, formed the backbone of the object in the original settlement of that colony. The
Fur Trade represented travel, adventure, and employment for hundreds of young men (little book page

I Sailed Through The Trees And Towards Reason
I Sailed through the Trees and Towards Reason. Sent sailing in the air and over the ditch. The wheels
are out of control. I effortlessly hit five mailboxes, a sign, while being tossed back and forth through
several trees like a ball in a pinball machine. Branches whacking me in the face through my broken
windows, until finally I came to this life alternating moment, was this it? Then, right before my car hit
headfirst into its last tree and finally it came to a stop. I took a deep breathe. Then, I looked around
and realized that I was alive. I opened my door and took a staggered few steps outside the car. I yelled
for help because I couldn t seem to find all the pieces of my phone. Everything is my car was tossed
around and broken. My car looked like it had been hammered all around. There was no way I could
drive it now and the windows busted out on each side. I stood there and asked myself, how am I in
such good condition when my car is completely totaled. It s the realization that I could have died
today and I did not. Many people get killed in car accidents, after my accident, I learned how
significant it was to pay more consideration to the vehicle I had on the road and its maintenance. Now
I am more conscious of my car s necessities. Here are some things I pay more attention to now that I
have had this accident. The mistakes we tend to make as young adult drivers. These are some things to
take into account from my mistakes during my accident and to use them to make

Savior Siblings
My Sister s Keeper Movie Review: The Story Behind Savior Siblings My Sister s Keeper , based on
the story by Jodie Piccoult, is a touching movie about a girl, Kate Fitzgerald, who is diagnosed at the
age of 5 with Leukemia. The only way her parents could save her, was to conceive a daughter through
genetic engineering and in vitro fertilization. Kate was sitting on Death s doorstep until her little sister,
Anna was born. Anna was a donor for Kate, made to be a perfect match for bone marrow and
leukocytes. As the movie progresses, Kate s case of cancer gets worse and Kate s kidney is failing
miserably. Kate needs Anna s kidney and that is when the whole movie seems to come together. Anna
decides, or so everyone thinks, that she wants to be medically emancipated. Anna states that she wants
to be in control of her own body, and that she doesn t want to be poked and prodded anymore. Her
case is brought into court, and she is fighting it against her own ... Show more content on

If Anna was never conceived, through in vitro fertilization or not, Kate would have died much sooner.
My Sister s Keeper also gives an example of how being a savior sibling can be a stressful situation.
When Anna was just a newborn, she donated her bone marrow to Kate. As Anna is in the process of
getting medically emancipated, she has the thought that her sister will die because of her.
This movie made me sort of mad. There were so many issues within the movie that I didn t like, per
se. I didn t like the thought of a child being born just to take things out of them. I didn t like the
mother s role. I thought that she was very narrow minded. On the other hand, I did like the bond
between the two sisters. Even through all of the pain and suffering, there were good times to look back
to, and to look forward to. I felt bad for the son, Jesse, nobody paid him any attention. Kate and Anna
were the only things important to their

Bioengineering s The Case Against De-Extinction
Have you ever caught yourself dreaming what society would be like if humans were to coexist with
dinosaurs? Scientist are currently working hard on Bioengineering, which, Bioengineering which is
another word for de extinction. So this brings along a controversial topic whether or not to bring
extinct animals back into today s society. Some believe bringing extinct animals back into existence
would increase genetic diversity and small populations, while others believe extinct animals should
not be brought back into existence due to the dangers the future holds. Scientist should not de extinct
species because society doesn t have the environment to sustain their lives, there are also many moral
hazards to come along with Bioengineering , finally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As seen in The Case Against De Extinction: It s a Fascinating Dumb Idea the author stated right now
the biggest moral hazard on the environmental front is created by the folly of geoengineering. To
clarify the author is proving that de extinction is a huge moral hazard and people question the ethics
behind bioengineering. Society will begin to believe there is no point in protecting species because if
scientist have their DNA, then scientist can just recreate the species. Recreating the species defeated
the fact that the species originally had a problem as to why they no longer exist. As seen in Case
Against Species Revival , the author stated , why worry about endangered species? We can just simply
keep their DNA and put them back into the wild later. If society has the power to decide whether a
species lives or becomes extinct, its taking the power away from nature and giving humans way too
much, what will society do next? Recreate people that have died? If the species became extinct there
is a reason as to why the species did not survive. So why society want to bring the species back into
existence just for the same outcome to occur. Society should not bring extinct animals back into

Social Media Into Traditional Marketing And Advertising...
Abstract
Effective marketing and advertising strategy is a necessity in order to have successful saturation in the
market. There are numerous marketing strategies at the disposal of companies to use, including, but
not limited to social media. Trends in social media have grown exponentially over the past few years
and many companies nowadays are utilizing this marketing strategy to their advantage. This paper will
focus on leading edge trends in integrating social media into traditional marketing and advertising
campaigns. I will also discuss recommendations for incorporating social media into the market
segments of Mini Laps that we are targeting, as well as how I will measure the results of these
recommendations.

It is very important to choose a marketing strategy that will reach your target market. An appropriate
example of this would be if Microsoft is trying to market their Xbox One; they would not want to
advertise in Cosmopolitan magazine. It s apparent that the target market for video games and video
game consoles is probably not those women (and maybe some men) who read Cosmopolitan
magazine. A more suitable choice for Microsoft would be PC World or even Sports Illustrated.
However, it should be noted that not every product in this world is that simple to formulate a
marketing strategy for. There are quite a few marketing outlets and strategies at a company s disposal
nowadays, including magazines, social media, TV, radio, and newspapers. Up until recent, companies
made the most use of television, newspapers, and magazines. However, huge advancements and
innovations in technology have opened up new doors when it comes to a brand new marketing
strategy: social media. This has become the newest and most popular method of marketing strategy
that companies nowadays are employing to fully comprehend their target markets. Social media offers
a very large space to exploit for the purposes of market saturation and brand awareness. Most people
actively use some type of social media whether that is Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, or Instagram.

Mead Halls In Beowulf
In Beowulf, many parts of the story have realistic and true qualities, one of those qualities is the
quality of how and where they lived. In the pre medieval era, mead halls were commonplace in the
European continent, now they are a thing of the past. Mead halls were very important in ancient times.
Lords ruled from them, and enemies would to try to loot from them. Mead halls in the Anglo Saxon
culture were used for many reasons, among them, bragging rights. Mead halls conveyed a message of
power and strength that are still heard today, not by the factions and kingdoms themselves, but by the
written documents and accounts recorded by Christian monks and scholars of the past. Mead halls
were very important in ancient times. Mead halls served as homes for the more powerful nobles, their
families, and quite possibly their soldiers. Mead halls served as the government building for each
settlement, and was seen as the seat of power for the lord who possessed it. Mead halls were generally
not alone as portrayed in Beowulf, but instead surrounded by a village, for the village would generate
more food, wealth, and add to the population ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Peasants would normally sprawl out all over the countryside growing crops, but were normally
vulnerable to raids from other countries or rebels, so they exchanged part of their crops and tribute for
protection from a lord. The Lord, having gained food and currency from the villages, would stockpile
and use some of the food, and sell the rest for more currency, currency that could fund new building
projects such as an upgrade to or a new mead hall for his subjects. The lord would also have to pay his
soldiers to keep from mutinying, and to remain loyal to him, he would also feed his armies with the
food harvested from the peasants, and buy food with the tribute given to him. Mead halls were widely

The Changing Role Of Flappers In The 1920 s
The 1920s, out with the old and in with the new. The Roaring Twenties was the decade of change and
prosperity where women wanted to be acknowledged for how they looked and dressed. Young women
also became more independent. This is how the famous term of a flapper came to be. Flappers are
young women and teenagers who dressed and acted differently with controversial behavior.
Flappers brought a dramatic change to society that made women realize how they should be treated. In
the past, women had to be submissive all the time and not voice their opinions. Back in the early
centuries, women were involved in domestic violence and their husbands and boyfriends would
control how they looked and acted. After World War I, many young men who fought did not return
home. This left women to explore the world and try new things. They realized that life was too short
to do anything but have fun. (The Rise of the Flapper). The 1920s was finally the breakthrough of
change women had been waiting for for centuries. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Feminism, the advocacy of women s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality
to men, increased dramatically. They want to be treated equally as men are. Bruce Blivens, an
observer of flappers from the 1920s, stated, Women have highly resolved that they are just as good as
men, and intend to be treated so...they don t intend to be debarred from any profession or occupation
which they choose to enter (The Flapper, Feminism and Flappers). This statement means that women
want to be treated as good as men without the boundaries of gender

The Impact Of Technology In Foreign AffairsBy Alison Lurie
In today s changing world, technology has influenced most everyone. In this new age, many different
opinions and controversies have arose. Foreign Affairs, a novel by Alison Lurie, uses fictional
characters and events to create ideas, illustrated in the novel, that compel the reader to think about
common societal issues and their causes. Foreign Affairs uses characters ideas on tourism and places
emphasis on societal norms and the characters opinions of them as a catalyst to nudge the reader into
this thought about common issues in society. Virginia (Vinnie) Miner, an advanced professor at
Corinth University in the novel, illustrates societal behaviors and their impact on her. Fred Turner,
another professor at Corinth University in the novel, discusses tourism and his opinions of it with
friends in London, England. Plato s Allegory of the Cave , Comic by Scott McCloud, and Adam
Gopnik s article Stones and Bones can be used as lenses to view Foreign Affairs. When using
McCloud s lens, the emphasis on societal behaviors and tourism in Foreign Affairs, acts as a vehicle
for cogitation on the reader s part about the actual and representational and their roles in the world
today. Plato s lens, when applied to Foreign Affairs, leads the reader to consider the effects of people
living in a representational world as opposed to living in the actual world. Gopnik s lens addresses
aspects of tourism that lack the actual culture and emotion behind an event or place, leading to a

Why Is Huck Finn Wrong
Tabitha Perez 08/16/17 One of the main scenes in TAHF that came to mind after being asked which
scene I could personally relate to is when Huck Finn just can t seem to avoid moral conflicts. There
have been many times in my life when I wasn t sure of what to do in a sticky situation and that s when
I question myself most. Finn did what s best, which is following his instincts no matter what others
tell him to do or say about difficult times. In the text it states, Pap always said it warn t no harm to
borrow things if you was meaning to pay them back some time, but the widow said it warn t anything
but a soft name for stealing, and no decent body would do it. Jim said he reckoned the widow was
partly right and pap was partly right; so the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most times throughout the first few sections of the novel I felt bad for him, but than again he is a liar,
cheats, and steals to make it down the river. In the text it says, What did you say your name was,
honey? M Mary Williams. Honey, I thought you said it was Sarah when you first come in? Oh, yes m,
I did. Sarah Mary Williams. Sarah s my first name. Some calls me Sarah, some calls me Mary. Here,
not only once but twice does Huck lie to get out of a sticky situation. I feel bad for Huck Finn because
although he never did enjoy school, he was taken out at such a young age so he has barely any
educational background. His father is an abusive alcoholic that has never wanted the best for him.
Huck is a very practical, creative, yet logical young boy. Although Huck is uncertain about helping a
runaway slave down the river, he still proceeds to come to his own conclusions about important
decisions even if they contradict society s norms. His personality assists him to survive the abuse from
his father, the violence from the river con men, and outsmart the town. Huck Finn is very thoughtful,
intelligent, and rarely influenced by others. In conclusion, during the first few chapters of TAHF I feel
as though Huck Finn is a very smart boy who evaluates any decisions before handling them and will
go to any matter in order to survive

Metalloids Lab
Introduction The periodic table is composed of metals, nonmetals, and metalloids. Each of these
materials have their own properties that are used to define and identify them. Metals are commonly
solids at room temperature, malleable and ductile, they often have high tensile strength, they
commonly have a silver or grayish white luster, and they are good conductors of heat and electricity.
However, there are exceptions; mercury is a liquid at room temperature rather than solid, gold and
copper are yellow and reddish brown rather than silver, and manganese and bismuth are brittle rather
than malleable. Nonmetals as opposed to metals are not good conductors of electricity and heat, they
are gases at room temperature, and nonmetals tend to be brittle. The exemption of non metals are
carbon, phosphorus, sulfur, and selenium are nonmetals however they are solid at room temperature
rather than gaseous. Finally, metalloids have combined properties of both metals and nonmetals
however all metalloids are solid at room temperature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When a material is conductive, the conductivity probe will have a solid and visible red light. However
if it is not conductive there will be no light and if it is a semi conductor there will be a dim and
possibly flashing light. If an element reacts with acid it will create bubbles when the sample comes
into contact with the acid. Metals will be shiny in luster, malleable, conductive, and they will react
with hydrochloric acid to create hydrogen gas. Nonmetals on the other hand will be dull in luster,
brittle or not malleable, they will not conductive, and they will not react with acid. Finally, metalloids
will will have properties of both nonmetals and

Bias In History
History is the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon
Throughout time, history has been manipulated and changed by those who write it. No one person is
ever truly objective and by that respect, no historian is unbiased. Those who write history often have
been the victors of battle, or swayed to one side of a story with a bias often in their favour. With the
introduction of photography, one could assume that history could not be re written, yet since its birth,
as with history itself, photography has been manipulated, staged and edited to portray an entirely
alternate account of the events of the past. Even Documentary photography can have opinions
influencing it at times. However is it fair to say that history comes ... Show more content on

The first is that the negative itself was cut up and reassembled. He would have cut out Trotsky and
replaced the blank space with another negative from the site the original negative was taken before
light exposure. Doing this method would be tricky and would take meticulous craftsmanship, so it was
very easy to get wrong. An easier, more likely option, is that they edited the image by creating a
photogram. To do this they would have used paper or another material to block the light in the shape
of Trotsky, giving the illusion of a complete image in just one exposure. This method is a little less
delicate and can be achieved via trial and error rather easily. David King who researched about the
censorship that Stalin created in Communist Russia said that Whatever the state considered
undesirable was withdrawn from view. In Stalin s time, this was a monumental task Stalin had a view
of exactly how he wanted Russia to be ran, and in order to achieve that he thought that he had to hide
and present what he wanted the public to see rather than what actually is happening. Trotsky had
challenged his views and felt betrayed by the fact that he did not completely agree with how things
were to be ran in Russia, so removed him from images to sway the public into agreeing that Trotsky
was a traitor and should be exiled.

Narrowcasting Media Bias
In the past twenty years, the United States media has transformed from a broadcasting to a
narrowcasting media. Each method has its unique differences, with one being the amount of bias from
each source. Narrowcasting specifically, can greatly affect the media s ability to influence public
opinion. Broadcasting is media programming that focuses on many genres of television. For instance,
on a broadcasting channel, you can watch a drama, comedy, and news all in the same day. The three
broadcasting networks, known as The Big 3 , are ABC, NBC, and CBS. When these broadcasting
channels present news, they want to stay as close to the middle of the political spectrum as possible.
The goal of a broadcasting channel is to appeal to everyone and the more neutral, fact based
information released, the more views The Big 3 will get, resulting in more money. However,
narrowcasting is media programming that is focused on a particular audience. Examples of
narrowcasting networks include C SPAN, ESPN, Fox News, and CNN. ESPN stands for
Entertainment and Sports Programming Network so they specialize in sports news and cater to the
sports audience. Unlike broadcasting, narrowcasting will not try to appeal to the majority of
Americans, so it can lean left or right on political issues and interject slightly more opinions. ... Show

As stated above, narrowcasting networks appeal to one type of audience, allowing the networks to add
opinions into their reports to keep that one audience interested. For instance, CNN, also known as
Cable News Network, is known for being more liberal whereas Fox News leans more conservative.
This creates bias because if you watch CNN news today, for example, Donald Trump will be
portrayed as an evil being. However, Fox News is known for saying Trump is an outstanding, fantastic
president. Depending on the news network you watch and/or read will affect the opinion of President

At the time of Julius Caesar s assassination Octavian was planning to take a senior military role in the
Parthian expedition of 44BC. He was with the army at Apollonia, in what is now Albania and was

hearing of Caesars death he started to head back to Rome, learning on the way that he was now Caesar
s new adopted son and heir (as written in Caesars will). In his will Caesar has named Octavian as his

Augustus raised a force of 3000 men from his Father s veterans. But among the supporters of Caesar,
Octavian also had a natural opponent Mark Antony, the dictator s trusted lieutenant. Mark Antony was
not at all like Octavian. He was a lot more attractive and physically stronger. Octavian had called upon
Antony for help and support but was disappointed to find that he was jealous because Octavian had
been named heir rather than himself.
However, in the year 43BC after a period of unstableness in Rome, Octavian and Antony came to the
realisation that they needed to make a political alliance. Thus creating the Second Triumvirate, after

copyrights (original artistic and literary works of), trademarks (commercial symbols), and trade

By contrast, the constitutional basis for federal trademark law is the Commerce Clause. (Yeh, p.1,
2012).
As a result, many laws, such as the Uniform Trade Act, the Misappropriation of a Trade Secret, the
Economic Espionage Act, the Copyright Act, the Federal Patent Statute, and Lanham Act just to
mention a few, have been enacted to provide legal protection against the unauthorized use, theft, and
other violations of the rights granted by those statutes to the intellectual property owners. For instance,
the Economic Espionage Act (EEA) was enacted by congress making it a federal crime to steal
another s trade secrets for own or another s benefit. In addition, the EEA was passed to address the
ease of stealing trade secrets through computer espionage and using the internet, and to penalize those
who commit these type of crimes. Additionally, these laws allow the IP owners to recover any profits
made by the offender, recover any damages, provide severe criminal penalties, fine organizations, and
impose prison terms and injunctions to all perpetrators as a remedy.
Furthermore, intellectual property rights gives their owners or holders monopoly rights as a protective
measure for a specific period of time. For example, in 1995, congress modified the U.S. patent law to
make invention patents valid for 20 years and design patents valid for 14

Analyzing and Exploring the Global City: Sydney

Research Paper
Throughout the years, people from all over the world have migrated to Australia and the United States
of America to create better lives for themselves such as escaping religious/political persecution,
obtaining a better education, reuniting with their families, becoming exposed to more job
opportunities, and various other reasons (Singer 2). Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in America and
Sydney, New South Wales in Australia have similar immigration patterns, settlement trends, and
impacts. However, the communities of immigrants tend to not follow the same behaviors in both
cities. Immigration is vital for continuous economic and social growth. Thus, what impact does
immigration have on these two cities?
In 2011, Australia s population was 26% migrants compared to America s, which was only 13% (

The Ban Of The Tobacco
For me tobacco is one of the useful but useless products that are consumed by some class of the
human race in general. In the year 2001 the Government of India had announce an intention to lay an
embargo on the advertisement of tobacco in the media in general, in order to prevent luring the
younger generation from getting involved in this act and also to arm the government with powers to
launch an anti Tobacco Program. After the declarations made by the government there is a negative
uprising against the ban that the government want to lay on the advertisements of the tobacco in
general. Some ideal people have seen the decision taken by the government as an impossible decision
that can never come into fruition, even to the degree where some prominent media personnel like,
Suhel Seth, CEO, Equus Advertising said have to speak against the intention of the government by
saying, The ban does not have teeth. It is a typical knee jerk reaction by any Government to create

Rorschach, By Alan Moore
Merriam Webster Dictionary defines a superhero as, a fictional character who has amazing powers
(such as the ability to fly) or a very heroic person ; yet, many of the characters in Watchmen have no
supernatural power and are immoral by most precedent societal standards. Alan Moore, in the graphic
novel Watchmen (1986 1987), asserts Rorschach as an example of deontology. Moore supports his
thoughts through dialogue and illustration. The author s purpose is to juxtapose philosophical beliefs
by comparing their varied flaws through differing narrators points of view. The author takes a
condescending tone in an effort to enrage his target audience of adult males. This paper seeks to
illustrate, qualify, and challenge Moore s claim that Rorschach is a deontologist.
Moore sets an example through the character Rorschach that all men should be protectors of their
society. In Watchmen, he portrays Rorschach as a vigilante hoping to save people from the evils of
wrong doers. With the threat of nuclear attack, the world is in turmoil. Rorschach investigates the
murder of fellow Watchman, Comedian, and warns other superheroes while enlisting the help of Nite
Owl in order to find out who is behind the latest attack. After Dr. Manhattan, a god like superhero, is
forced to leave earth for Mars, Rorschach is set up and placed in jail for murder. Nite Owl, now

In The Time Of The Butterflies And Antigone
In the Time of the Butterflies Essay
The novel In the Time of the Butterflies, by Julia Alvarez and the play Antigone by Sophocles, both
include similar characters, situations, and actions that react to the idea of a dangerous growing
authority. The characters Dede from the Time of the Butterflies and Ismene from Antigone both strive
to stay out of trouble with the government; however Dede s approach is more effective as she becomes
an oracle character by the end of the novel, for she lives to tell the story of the Mirabal sisters. Dede
uses her relationship with her sisters and her own family to survive through the dangerous reign of
Trujillo. When facing a regime such as Trujillo s regime, the survivors who live to tell their story, like
Dede, are crucial to understanding and analyzing important historical moments. These survivors live
through real tragedies, so they are primary resources with personal opinions and experiences.
To begin, Dede s ability to support and stay in contact with her sisters without getting too involved
with the dangers of the government allow her to stay safe, as well as tell accurate stories from the time
of Trujillo s reign. Through all the struggles her sisters undergo, Dede still supports and cares for
them. Even after her sisters are freed from jail, Dede still finds herself in the habit of staying over the

I believe that some of the group members will leave differently than before they arrived because of
this particular program and group, The theoretical framework was somewhat dictatorship on today; I
learned that the tone that the facilitator sets for the majority of the session is how the session runs.
This is actually how I figured the sessions would be run, but to be aware that always expect the
unexpected at any time. You must also be ready to adjust to whatever it is happening at that particular
moment. This particular session appears to be more somber with quite a bit of silence and skepticism.
Why this climate I asked myself? I really don t know. I would suggest to the facilitator to have some
kind of activity that she uses as an icebreaker. This would help get the communication going between
the members. A specific skill that I have that would hinder me as an effective group leader is my
ability to shut down once I got ticked off. This skill is useful in other settings to cool down situations.
My last observation session began with the group leader introducing all members present. She also
announced to the group that this was my last time attending. This stage of the sessions was supposed
to be more intense because this was a 6 week program. The group leader was going to be more of a
facilitator during this process allowing the

Empirical Formula Lab Report
Empirical Formula and Percent Composition of Magnesium Oxide
Prediction
Magnesium oxide is an ionic compound (metal cation bonded to non metal anion); therefore, we can
determine its formula using the ionic charges of magnesium (Mg2+), and oxygen (O2 ). To comply
with the octet rule, the elements combine at a ratio of 1:1;as a result, the formula is MgO (s) . We can
theoretically predict the empirical formula, and the percent composition, through this procedure:
1) Two moles of magnesium combines with two moles of oxygen.
2Mg(s) + O2 (g) 2MgO(s)
Mg= 2 moles
O = 2 moles
2) Divide both values by the smallest value and place the results in ratio form. In this case, the ratio is
simply 1:1.
3) This ratio represents the number of magnesium ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This does not support my hypothesis, but there are possibilities why the experimental result did not
match the prediction:
There might have been unevaporated water left in the crucible, which would increase the weight of the
oxygen . For example, of the 0.06 grams of oxygen measured, 0.02 grams could have been
unevaporated water.
There might have been some unreacted magnesium. This could have happened if some magnesium
strips were covered by others, eliminating their exposure to air. Due to this, the mass of oxygen
increases since it is naturally diatomic and doubles up. For example, out of the 0.06 grams of
magnesium, 0.02 grams might not have reacted. This unreacted metal allows an oxygen (which would
have otherwise been bonded to it) to double up with itself and increase the mass of total oxygen.
Always, there could be mechanical error and human error. Since the crucible was an open system,
mass could have entered or left due to air currents, or vibrations. No matter how small, any inaccuracy
caused by these errors could have resulted in the higher measurement of oxygen recorded in this

Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five Essay
The phrase so it goes is repeated 106 times in Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five. From dead
champagne to the massacre at Dresden, every death in the book is seemingly equalized with the phrase
so it goes . The continuation of this phrase ties in with the general theme on indifference in the story.
If the Tralfamadorian view of time is correct, then everyone is continuously living every moment of
their life and dying is not the end. However, if Vonnegut believed in this idea, then he wouldn t have
felt compelled to write about the firebombing of Dresden. It is clear that both Billy Pilgrim and Kurt
Vonnegut are affected by the massacre they saw, but they have different ways of rationalizing it. Billy
finds comfort in the Tralfamadorian view of life, whereas Vonnegut disagrees, and urges the reader to
disagree too. The constant repetition of so it goes breaks the reader away from the Tralfamadorian
point of view, and allows them to come to their own conclusion that although it would be nice to
forget the bad parts of life, it is important to remember all of the past. Vonnegut helps the reader come
to this conclusion by repeating the phrase after gruesome moments, and showing how meaningless life
can be if the Tralfamadorian ideas are believed, as seen through Billy Pilgrim s bland life.. The first
use of so it goes comes in the first chapter, while Vonnegut is talking in the first person. He met a cab
driver who was a German soldier and said things were much

Essay on Treaty Of Versailles is Justified
Treaty of Versailles
World War I was ultimately ended in 1918 after the Treaty of Versailles was signed. Peace settlements
were signed on June 28, 1918 at the Hall of Mirror in Versailles, Paris. The Treaty was an agreement
among the United States, Great Britain, and France. Woodrow Wilson, George Clemenceau, and
David Lloyd, who represented the Big Three countries, collaborated in negotiating the Treaty. The
Treaty of Versailles was designed to weaken Germany and give Germany full blame for causing the
war. The Treaty implemented massive reparations to Germany which would obliterate Germany s
economy, notwithstanding the millions of dead allied soldiers. The settlement strictly limited the
German s military. Germans were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After that attempt failed Germany began to get threatened by the vast mobilization of Russia, and
declared war on Russia. France soon after gave Russia full support. When Germany demanded that
France shouldn?t get in the clash, France rejected. Then Germany declared war on France. This
showed Germany initiated the war on both countries which proves that Germany was the instigator.
Italy and Britain remained their neutrality in the war and doesn?t support neither side, nor did it want
to be apart of the war. Their neutrality didn?t last long because one again German?s war diplomacy
made the decision for Britain. These actions from Germany shows they wanted to start are provoke
war. Germany came up with a new plan called, The Schlieffen Plan. The plan let German armies
march through Belgium, and to defeat France?s army. War was then declared in Belgium on August 3.
This brought turmoil and there was no time for negotiations only time to fight. One veteran said, ?Out
of every four men who went out to the World War did not come back again.? Casualties? rates sprung
up after the attacks leaving, Russia with, 9,150,000 ,and France with 6,160,800 casualties. The French
mobilized about 8.5 million men, the British virtually 9 million, and Russians with 12 million. Other
battles were also fought to break the stalemate on the Western front. The battle of Verdun was an 11

Before installing the VPN services, however, a number of things must be taken into consideration. By
evaluating who is using the VPN, the hardware necessary to make good connections, the pros and
cons of differing connection protocols, and evaluating past security problems, setting up the VPN
services becomes a much smoother process. VPN s and Firewalls Anyone who will be accessing the
VPN services should have a firewall in place.Once a VPN connection is established, the client is
essentially able to access information behind the company s firewall, thus creating an access hole.
Therefore, insisting a client use and maintain a firewall is another layer in the security of the VPN
setup. The ease of changing the firewall rules to allow VPN connections should be addressed. Very old
firewalls, either appliance types or software types, may be difficult or impossible to configure to allow
VPN access.A small business may stay with an old firewall for many reasons, one of which might be
the fact that there has been no reason to upgrade in the past. It would be prudent to check the firewall
documentation before becoming enmeshed in the VPN process, only to have it fail for lack of access,
or creating a setup that might be considered insecure. User Considerations When setting up the VPN

Compare And Contrast Eukaryotic And Photosynthesis
When comparing photosynthesis and cellular respiration in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells you must
first understand what the two are and why they are important. Photo meaning light and synthesis
meaning making. So, photosynthesis is converting sunlight into a chemical energy source. Mostly to
obtain energy is its main purpose, but there is a formula to follow when dealing with photosynthesis.
The formula is carbon dioxide plus water with the presence of chlorophyll and sunlight reacting to
glucose giving you glucose, water, and oxygen. There are two stages of photosynthesis and they are
light dependent and the light independent meaning exactly what they sound like one is dependent on
sunlight and the other simply doesn t need sunlight. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Or receive energy. The process of occurs when plants absorb energy from the sun then that energy is
transferred to humans and animals. Photosynthesis occurs in eukaryotic cells by Chloroplast.
Chloroplast is known as plastid meaning storing materials for energy production. Chloroplasts main
job is for making amino acids and lipids needed for production. Algae is a good example of where you
can find chloroplast. When looking at chloroplast the appearance would be a green pigment known as
chlorophyll. Chlorophyll absorbs light energy for production. In plant chloroplast which are
commonly found in plant leaves have different structures each of them being important. The
membrane envelope contains lipids for protection, and keeping chloroplast closed regulates what goes
in and out of the cell. The system that converts light energy to chemical energy is through the function
thylakoid system. The fluid that is inside the membrane envelope and the outside of the thylakoid is
called the stroma. The chloroplast has mainly two steps in the process of photosynthesis in plant cells.
The first one is energy transferring known as the light dependent or light reactions. the second step is
carbon fixation reactions known as the dark reactions. The three products of energy transfer are

Malcolm Of The Malcolm X Journey
The Malcolm X Journey
Malcolm Little was born in the mid twentieth century, these were difficult times for the black youth.
As Little grew older he knew there needed to be change, he was one of the few people that was
capable of making that happen for the fellow African American and African. At a very young age
Malcolm grasped the concept that there s something not right, that there needed to be an alteration and
thus is where he started his studies. Malcolm needed to be outspoken he wanted to achieve a certain
impact on others. So he began reading into law, that was the only way for him to get some kind of
basic education. In the midst of his devotion to start a revolution, Malcolm Little s father was killed.
The rage and anger he had took over him and Malcolm became rebellious. Malcolm let go of all his
dreams that he once had and he became a troubled child and started committing felonies targeting
white people, such as armed robbery, burglary. In 1946 he was arrested, it was then and there where he
sat and the unconscious became conscious once again all because of a great influence. Malcolm Little
then changed to Malcolm X, he believed that X was his slave name that was lost. Malcolm X was

It is a preparation between two companies that have decided to share resources to undertake a specific,
mutually beneficial project. A strategic alliance is less involved and less permanent than a joint
venture, in which two companies typically pool resources to create a separate business entity. In a
strategic alliance, each company maintains its autonomy while gaining a new opportunity. A strategic
alliance could help a company develop a more effective process, expand into a new market or develop
an advantage over a competitor, among other possibilities. (http://www.investopedia.com)
Investopedia explains Strategic Alliance
For example, an oil and natural gas company might form a strategic alliance with a research laboratory
to develop more commercially viable recovery processes. A clothing retailer might form a strategic
alliance with a single clothing manufacturer to ensure consistent quality and sizing. A major website
could form a strategic alliance with an analytics company to improve its marketing efforts.

At the staff employee level there are two ways to evaluate performance. Productivity is established
within the departments and is analyzed routinely. Quality assurance (QA) is a method that is used to
monitor the quality of work being processed. Productivity and QA are done in each department and
the methods used are contingent upon the department s processes. As a manger or team lead their
performance is evaluated on the departments goals. Each department will determine and be provided
with goals for the upcoming year. These goals evaluate the performance of the department s key tasks.
For example, we have a goal of posting all cash and wires that comes in for the current month before

may be several departments or just one under their responsibility. The director is evaluated on his or

Minimum Wage and Poverty
Poverty is a significant topic that is being investigated, talked about and most importantly lived in by
millions in America. Many American citizens, specifically the children are not only living in poverty,
but they are living below the poverty line due to low minimum wage (Gidfar). A child living in
poverty can face serious problems in the future. Reducing poverty should not be charity work. As
citizens of the world it should be a social responsibility to find a way in which poverty can no longer
be a living status, especially for a developed country like America. It is one of the top countries before
Mexico with the highest rate of child poverty (Gidfar). In context, minimum wage has a large impact
on poverty within a country, as the higher the minimum wage the more disposable income families
have access to. The discussion of how the elasticity of demand of unskilled workers determines
whether or not the minimum wage should be raised to reduce child poverty is essential when
validating the relationship between the two variables (Rutkowski 7). While the analysis of William
Even and David Macpherson s study emphasizes the importance of taking employment in to account
as a variable as an indication to prevent job loss (2), through the clarification that although the United
States view child poverty as being an intractable problem (WaldFogel 3), there is evidence to support
that a raise in the disposable income of families can lead to reduction in child poverty (Dahl and

Chronic diseases have lots of negative impacts on people s quality of life.[1] These diseases not only
cause a lot of physical and mental problems for patients [2], but also costs on patient s family So their
impacts will be shown in both patient and society [3]. The treatment of kidney patients as chronic
disease is one of the most important issues for world s health [4]because this disease has high rates of
prevalence and incidence[5] and its treatment is associated with high cost and low recovery.[6] The

Franz Kafka And The Metamorphosis
Internal and External Demons: Franz Kafka and The Metamorphosis
Without knowledge of deeper symbolism, The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka appears to be
incredibly abstract and even humorous. The story is that of a man who transforms into a beetle within
one evening and who struggles to endure. Upon scrupulous analyses, several forms of parallelism are
evident within Kafka s short story, and Kafka s personal life is portrayed within The Metamorphosis in
a mild manner to those who do not appreciate deeper meaning. Kafka s antagonist in The
Metamorphosis mirrors Kafka himself. Franz Kafka battled his father and his mental well being whilst
living, and upon closer inspection of the short story, Gregor Samsa s image (physical and
psychological) reflects Kafka s demons. The writing of Franz Kafka is greatly influenced by both the
internal and the external struggles of his personal life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Was The American Revolution Inevitable Dbq
Was the American Revolution inevitable? According to John Adams in 1818, the desire for
independence was already in the hearts of Americans long before war broke out in 1775. This was
untrue for many loyalists living in the colonies in 1775. However, there was simply nothing the
mother country could do to stop her colonies from wanting to move on from its natural state of
identity in order to grow into a unique and independent country. To begin with, Richard Bland in his
1766 An Inquiry Into the Rights of the British Colonies believed that America should be independent

artisans, and laborers united in a resistance group called Sons of Liberty. By the end of the summer,
the Sons of Liberty harassed customs workers, stamp agents, and royal governors faced mob threats
and hence stamp agents resigned all over. The Act was to become effective on November 1st, 1765,
but colonial protests prevented stamped paper from being sold. In the month of October, 1765,
delegates from nine colonies met in NYC. Congress issued a Declaration of Rights and Grievances: it
stated that Parliament lacked power to impose taxes on the colonies because they were not represented
in Parliament. This was the first time in which colonies began to set aside their differences and unite

With The Old Breed Essay
With the Old Breed by E.B. Sledge, is a memoir that tells the story of training and two battles fought
on Peleliu and Okinawa during his time served in WWII in the K Company, 5th Marine regiment, 1st
Marine Division. This memoir serves as a primary source that truly displays the horrors, conditions,
and attitude that were felt by the soldiers that fought in the Pacific. This memoir examines the
hardships that were felt by the Marines. As I got further into the book, I saw the changes in his
character, integrity, and morality. I believe that the chapter titles surely represent the characteristics
and feelings involved in the book. Making a Marine, Assault into Hell, Of Mud and Maggots are just
some of chapters that provide the essence and foresight of the book. Making a Marine is a very

Marine describes the blood, sweat, and tears that these brave men go through to serve their country.
You people are recruits. You re not Marines. You may not have what it takes to be Marines. (Pg. 8)

While reading his memoir, Sledge accurately depicts how war is hell. The constant bombardment and
explosions from the mortars, grenades, and other weapons were absurdly rattling and loud that
soldiers could only hear each other by yelling. Sledge suggests that that waiting is a major part of war
, but in hell waiting is something that is not easily accomplished. I broke out in a cold sweat as the
tension mounted with the intensity of the bombardment. (Pg. 55) Sledge was amazed at how his dead
Japanese soldiers were looted from glasses to their gun. These are just some of the descriptive lines
that show the agony of war. Assault Into Hell adds meaning and grit to the terror Sledge had to go

Themes In The Farming Of Bones By Edwidge Danticat
In the Farming of Bones, Edwidge Danticat explores the 1937 massacre of Haitian immigrant workers
in the Dominican Republic. This unfortunate and destructive reality rests squarely on the shoulders of
Amabelle, who strives to find stability, love, and answers to tough questions on her quest for personal
freedom. Throughout the narrative, Danticat uses the cave, sugar cane, and rive images, in order to
deeply investigate the essence of the situation and provide us with symbolic images to enhance the
story of Amabelle and the people around her in Columbia and Haiti.
Danticat uses a few types of plants to explore the reality of Haitian field workers prior to the Massacre
of 1937. In the Farming of Bones, parsley, a readily available plant in ... Show more content on

As book ends, she is lying in the current, giving herself up to fate and the forward flow of the river,
with faith for a new life. In the water, she symbolically relives the massacre of her parent and so many
Haitian people while attempting to gain clarification on so many questions. Her slight submersion
helps her undergo some type of rebirth, The water was warm for October, warm and shallow, so
shallow that I could lie on my back in it with my shoulders only half submerged. . . . cradled by the
current, paddling like a newborn in a washbasin. (310) Danticat illustrates, once again, death. This
time, conversely, the remembrance of death allows for growth and life in Amabelle.
The death attracting river serves as the backdrop of actual and symbolic death; many people die in it,
corpses float down it, and once people cross it, their lives are never the same Crossing the river
multiple times becomes eye opening experience in itself; we see this through Amabelle attempting to
return to her previous dwelling and everything that was alive before is no longer as she knew it or in a
sense, dead. Therefore, Danticat suggests that Amabelle can never truly go back to the other side.
However, through her return to the middle of the river, she conquers the death that has plagued her

Comparing Hamlet Agamemnon And Prufrock
Hamlet, Agamemnon and Prufrock all display Hamartia; a tragic flaw, by doing things that are out of
the norm, acting out violently and/or unreasonable which in turn, hurts the ones they love. All three
characters did things that most people would think of as crazy, like killing someone, acting frantic or
getting yourself killed by evading a question. Although these things might be looked down upon or
even questioned, they have been taken place in either reality or somebodies mental world which in
turn has created these great pieces of literature. Hamlet, is flawed because he is unable to take action.
For example; when Hamlet was feeling like death would be the answer to all of the world s pain and
heartache that it is heir to , he couldn t

Melisane Alternate Ending
Melisande gave her such a wide smile that another wave of gratification spread through Morgana s
chest. She straightened her shoulders and glanced at Merlin. He was looking at her with admiration
and she hastily turned back to Melisande before he saw how pleased Morgana was by his appreciative
gaze.
I m sorry to have intruded, my lady. The young woman lifted the green silk of her mended skirt and
executed a proper curtsey.
That s all right, Melisande. Morgana gave her a cool nod. I apologize our lesson today will be
postponed. Tomorrow, I promise, I ll make you work twice as hard.
A smile lit the young woman s round face. I look forward to it, my lady.

Morgana moved toward one of the withering rose bushes. She held out a hand and whispered a spell.
The leaves spread wider and greener and the wilted flowers opened again to display vibrant red
blooms.
They re beautiful. Merlin s eyes moved over the rows of bushes and stalks in square plots. Did you do
all this? His gesture encompassed the entire tiny garden.
Yes. The spark of pride that always warmed her when she surveyed her flower garden was redoubled
at the admiration in his gaze.
He looked around again at the stiffening plants. Then he crouched down, laid one hand on a patch of
bare earth, and spoke a spell similar to the one she had used.
Her eyes widened as every rose bush burst into blooms of all colours more colours than they had
displayed at the height of summer and every other flower awakened as if each had reached its peak
season. The cornflowers were bluer than the pale sky above and the lavender s scents competed with
lilacs in all shades from white to dark purple.
She looked at him in awe and then narrowed her gaze. Is this why you could always find flowers to

Effects Of Jim Crow
The Effect of Jim Crow Laws on the American South
Soon after the Civil War, the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the Constitution abolished slavery,
granted citizenship, and provided equal protection to formerly enslaved people. However, most
southern states figured out ways to avoid these new laws and continued to deny the social and political
rights of African Americans. Laws were passed and other measures were enforced by white
southerners to produce a society separated by race. Specifically, southern legislatures passed new
segregation laws which were referred to as the Jim Crow laws. These laws were apparently created to
regulate social interactions between whites and blacks. In reality, the Jim Crow laws made life very
challenging for African Americans in the post Civil War South because these laws intended to keep
society segregated, reject the human and civil rights of African Americans, and keep blacks at the
bottom of the social hierarchy.
In the 1870s, white southerners implemented a racially segregated society across the South through
the creation of the Jim Crow laws. For instance, whites only and colored signs rapidly increased
throughout the American South as a constant reminder of the enforced racial order. These laws
affected almost every aspect of daily life, mandating segregation of schools, parks, libraries, drinking
fountains, restrooms, buses, trains, and restaurants ( Jim Crow ). Jim Crow intended to separate the
races since this system aimed

The Sociological Experiences Of High School And College...
Coming into college, one major thing I was excited for was the week of homecoming. In high school,
I always had the most spirit and this week was one of my favorites. That being said, I looked forward
to participating in the homecoming events this past fall football season. I gained from this experience
is that both high school and college homecomings are sociological events that can be compared in
many ways. The homecoming I am most familiar with is a high school homecoming. During the week,
students would practice agency meaning the freedom individuals have to choose and act (Witt, 5). If
you didn t want to participate in anything, people wouldn t force you to do it. Every day we would
have different theme to go with our overall theme for the week. By putting up posters the week before,
we used nonverbal communication, the use of gestures, facial expressions, and other visual images to
communicate (Witt, 53) to spread the word about upcoming days. By the end of the week, everyone
was ready to skip our last class and go to our infamous Pep Rally. At our Pep Rally you could see the
different subcultures, segment of society that shares a distinctive pattern of mores, folkways, and
values that differ from the pattern of the larger society (p.59) in the separation of the classes.
A norm, which is an established standard or behavior maintained by society (Witt, 55), is seen
throughout the gym with students wearing our school colors red, black, and white. Different students

Comparison Of Newsround And BBC 6 O Clock News
Comparing Newsround and BBC 6 o clock News The purpose and audience of Newsround and the
BBC 6 o clock News are both different, and therefore the format, content and language will differ as a
consequence. The purpose of Newsround is to make news interesting and accessible for its target
audience, of younger teenagers and children. On the other hand the BBC 6 o clock News has a more
general audience, consisting mainly of adults and older people, and its purpose is to present a round up
of the days events in a more formal manner, yet still on a level that is universally understood. The
format of Newsround has to appeal to its target audience of younger teenagers and children. As a

Finally, there are no desks and the presenters sit on sofas so it seems more relaxed and contemporary,
both of which make the news appear more exciting and help it to get rid of its boring, adults only
image. On the other hand, the format of the BBC 6 o clock News , especially the mode of address,
differs greatly to suit its target audience. Firstly the male presenters wear a much more formal and
mature shirt and tie in place of the more casual jeans and T shirt. Also they sit behind a desk, which
makes the set closed and less relaxed, making the news seem more serious for more mature adults.
However, there are some similarities, for example the sets of both programmes are modern but
Newsround use more playful primary colours as opposed to the BBC 6 o clock News uniform red; red
having connotations of danger or urgency and being therefore more serious . Likewise there is a male
and female presenter, mirroring the set up of the Newsround format however, the BBC 6 o clock News
presenters take it in turns to announce the headlines whereas the Newsround female presenter does
them all herself. The title sequences also differ on the surface, but are similar in many ways. For
example they both feature the world, representing worldwide news, and they both use pacey music to
suggest the news is urgent. In comparison, for the BBC 6 o clock News the BBC logo

Democracy Hinders Growth And Its Effect On Economic...
Some scholars have argued that democracy hinders growth as a result of a collective action problem,
while others argue it is the democratic institutions constraining government, and providing individual
property rights which allows for economic growth (Montesquieu, 1748; Smith, 1776; Buchanan and
Tullock, 1962; North and Thomas, 1973; North, 1981, 1990; Hall and Jones, 1999; Easterly and
Levine, 2003; Rodrik, 2007). The former approach focuses on the role of leadership in a
nondemocratic regime, specifically in how a good leader can affect the economic development in a
region. The latter approach focuses on how investor risk aversion that results from the lack of property
rights, corruption, inefficiencies, and political instability in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The notion goes back to de Tocqueville, but in modern form it has been revived by Barro s empirical
work (1996a and b). Finally, Wintrobe (1998) argues that the authoritarian elite successfully rules by
repressing some in the population while nurturing the loyalty of others. Similarly, the threat of a
rebellion by the opposition compels the dictator to share rents in Gandhi and Przeworski (2006).
The literature on rent seeking suggests a means by which alternatives to collective action can insulate
state actors from societal interests (Mares, 1993: 457). Rent creation implies rent distribution, creating
incentives for rent seeking in the domestic economy; even efficient firms will devote resources either
to capture the rents or to lobby for their elimination (Buchanan, p.35). Bates work on Africa
demonstrates that, rather than simply buying off societal opposition, state actors can distribute rents to
build supportive policy coalitions (1981). A second way for state actors to build a winning policy
coalition is to help potential supporters of state preferences overcome barriers to collective action
through their power to tax and regulate. Here, state actors can force would be free riders to contribute
to the provision of the collective good (Olson, 1965).
Olson (1993, Olson and McGuire, 1996, Olson, 2000) compares the economics of dictatorships

Reflective Essay On Infection Control In The Hospital
Academic Literacy: Reflective essay 17 Aug. 14
Gillian van Aardt 214097226
Infection Control:
In the hospital or clinical environment infection control must be exercised for the better health of the
patient and to avoid exposure to the healthcare worker. Infection is the establishment and growth of a
pathogen inside the human body. Infection control is thus the management of these infections to
prevent injury to the patient resulting in disease. In the diagnostic ultrasound department, the good use
of infection control is critical to avoiding contamination from patient to patient and to the sonographer
because of the close proximity to each other and repeated use of medical equipment. Due to the wide
use of ultrasound for diagnosis, the sonographer is exposed to a wider variety of potential infection ...

Being immune compromised, or immunosuppressed, these patients are at risk of acquiring further
infections in the hospital environment. Such hospital acquired infections are called nosocomial
infections. The greater need for medical attention of a patient, the higher the risk of acquiring a
nosocomial infection. Some pathogens which cause infection use the opportunity of an immune
compromised patient, to grow and reproduce where in normal circumstances it could not do this. In
diagnostic medical sonography, the sonographer is very close to the patient physically which provides
a gateway for infection to spread from the sonographer to the patient and vice versa. It is thus
important not to go to work sick for the patient and their own health. The hospital is home to many
pathogens due to the amount of patients suffering from infection, and because these patients are
immunosuppressed, healthcare workers need to be vigilant about controlling the spread of infection to
provide quality care to the

Child Abuse And Sexual Abuse
There are many forms of child abuse. Not only can children be physically abused, but they are also in
danger of experiencing sexual abuse. In the more recent years, child sexual abuse has come to the
attention of a larger part of society. As such, it is becoming more openly discussed. Child sexual abuse
is a growing problem, and the stories that have begun to circulate around the world work to illustrate
just how serious the problem is. Despite what society is lead to believe, the sexual abuse of a child is
the least common out of all forms of child abuse. Out of the different types of child abuse, neglect is
the most common, followed by physical abuse, and then sexual abuse comes at the bottom. Still, of all
the cases of child abuse reported to and substantiated by authorities, approximately 15% of them
concerned sexual abuse. ). It is possible that there are more cases of child sexual abuse, however, and
they simply are not being reported. Due to the number of undisclosed cases of child abuse, researchers
have conducted various prevalence studies over the years to determine the true number of sexual
abuse of children. These studies have determined that around 20% of women and 5 10% of men in
America in were sexually abused as children. A great deal of controversy surrounds the number of
male victims of child sexual abuse, due to a lack of quality studies. The problem with prevalence
studies is that they don t all share the same definition of abuse, nor do they share

Sociological Concepts Of Family, Gender, And Identity Essay
This essay discusses the way in which I understand the sociological concepts of family, gender and
race nuclear family, doing gender, and identity, in particular. Arguably, these three concepts can relate
to each individuals life, through different personal experiences. To demonstrate my argument, I
highlight relevant situations in my own life that further explain my chosen sociological concepts.
The first concept I chose to focus on is family. In particular, the idea of the nuclear family .
A nuclear family is defined as: A couple and their dependent children, regarded as a basic social unit.
My research of this concept will focus on the theories of two sociologists George Peter Murdock, and
Talcott Parsons. George Murdock s theory suggests that there are four essential functions of an ideal
family. 1. Stable satisfaction of the sex drive, 2. The biological reproduction of the next generation, 3.
Socialisation of the young, 4. Meeting its members economic needs (Thompson, 2014). According to
Murdock, these four components are what keep the structure of the basic family unit intact, and by
achieving these four functions create an ideal family model. An opposing theory is Talcott Parson s
functional fit theory. Parson suggests that as society evolves, alternative forms of family life become
more accepted. Society has progressed so much that single parents providing for their children is as
normal as a nuclear family, and there tends to be less need for extended

Negative And Negative Effects Of Marijuana
Negatives of Marijuana Marijuana is a dangerous drug and should not be legalized. Marijuana can
damage lungs, it can affect cardiovascular shape and it puts you at higher risk for heart attack or
stroke, raises blood pressure and many other harmful effects. You can also end up getting addicted to
marijuana (Watson4). It s a very dangerous drug especially if driving. There are many DUI s and
deadly accidents that are marijuana related each year (gray1). That s why marijuana is illegal in almost
every state. Nevertheless, the number of teenagers partaking in marijuana does appear to be on the
rise, at least partially due to a reduced perception of risk among teens who have been following the
various legal debates around the country around legalization of medicinal and recreational marijuana.
Noelle swan (Christian Science Monitor2). Although Marijuana is dangerous it doesn t seem to stop
any one from using it. Marijuana is the most common used drug in the United States and polls show
that Americans are in favor of marijuana (congressional digest1). It has various slang names such as;
weed, pot, grass, ganja, bud, herb, and many more. In two states recreational marijuana is legal and
twenty eight states medical marijuana and legal in two states for recreation use marijuana (Gray1).
Marijuana cultivation has been traced back up to six thousand years ago. Some strains of marijuana
are found to be up to seven times stronger than decades ago (Harvard Heart1). There is even

I effortlessly hit five mailboxes, a sign, while being tossed back and forth through several trees like a ball in a pinball machine. Branches whacking me in the face through my broken windows, until finally I came to this life alternating moment, was this it? Then, right before my car hit headfirst into its last tree and finally it came to a stop. I took a deep breathe. Then, I looked around and realized that I was alive. I opened my door and took a staggered few steps outside the car. I yelled for help because I couldn t seem to find all the pieces of my phone. Everything is my car was tossed around and broken. My car looked like it had been hammered all around. There was no way I could drive it now and the windows busted out on each side. I stood there and asked myself, how am I in such good condition when my car is completely totaled. It s the realization that I could have died today and I did not. Many people get killed in car accidents, after my accident, I learned how significant it was to pay more consideration to the vehicle I had on the road and its maintenance. Now I am more conscious of my car s necessities. Here are some things I pay more attention to now that I have had this accident. The mistakes we tend to make as young adult drivers. • 4. Savior Siblings My Sister s Keeper Movie Review: The Story Behind Savior Siblings My Sister s Keeper , based on the story by Jodie Piccoult, is a touching movie about a girl, Kate Fitzgerald, who is diagnosed at the age of 5 with Leukemia. The only way her parents could save her, was to conceive a daughter through genetic engineering and in vitro fertilization. Kate was sitting on Death s doorstep until her little sister, Anna was born. Anna was a donor for Kate, made to be a perfect match for bone marrow and leukocytes. As the movie progresses, Kate s case of cancer gets worse and Kate s kidney is failing miserably. Kate needs Anna s kidney and that is when the whole movie seems to come together. Anna decides, or so everyone thinks, that she wants to be medically emancipated. Anna states that she wants to be in control of her own body, and that she doesn t want to be poked and prodded anymore. Her case is brought into court, and she is fighting it against her own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If Anna was never conceived, through in vitro fertilization or not, Kate would have died much sooner. My Sister s Keeper also gives an example of how being a savior sibling can be a stressful situation. When Anna was just a newborn, she donated her bone marrow to Kate. As Anna is in the process of getting medically emancipated, she has the thought that her sister will die because of her. This movie made me sort of mad. There were so many issues within the movie that I didn t like, per se. I didn t like the thought of a child being born just to take things out of them. I didn t like the mother s role. I thought that she was very narrow minded. On the other hand, I did like the bond between the two sisters. Even through all of the pain and suffering, there were good times to look back to, and to look forward to. I felt bad for the son, Jesse, nobody paid him any attention. Kate and Anna were the only things important to their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scientist are currently working hard on Bioengineering, which, Bioengineering which is another word for de extinction. So this brings along a controversial topic whether or not to bring extinct animals back into today s society. Some believe bringing extinct animals back into existence would increase genetic diversity and small populations, while others believe extinct animals should not be brought back into existence due to the dangers the future holds. Scientist should not de extinct species because society doesn t have the environment to sustain their lives, there are also many moral hazards to come along with Bioengineering , finally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As seen in The Case Against De Extinction: It s a Fascinating Dumb Idea the author stated right now the biggest moral hazard on the environmental front is created by the folly of geoengineering. To clarify the author is proving that de extinction is a huge moral hazard and people question the ethics behind bioengineering. Society will begin to believe there is no point in protecting species because if scientist have their DNA, then scientist can just recreate the species. Recreating the species defeated the fact that the species originally had a problem as to why they no longer exist. As seen in Case Against Species Revival , the author stated , why worry about endangered species? We can just simply keep their DNA and put them back into the wild later. If society has the power to decide whether a species lives or becomes extinct, its taking the power away from nature and giving humans way too much, what will society do next? Recreate people that have died? If the species became extinct there is a reason as to why the species did not survive. So why society want to bring the species back into existence just for the same outcome to occur. Society should not bring extinct animals back into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Trends in social media have grown exponentially over the past few years and many companies nowadays are utilizing this marketing strategy to their advantage. Leading Edge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is very important to choose a marketing strategy that will reach your target market. An appropriate example of this would be if Microsoft is trying to market their Xbox One; they would not want to advertise in Cosmopolitan magazine. It s apparent that the target market for video games and video game consoles is probably not those women (and maybe some men) who read Cosmopolitan magazine. A more suitable choice for Microsoft would be PC World or even Sports Illustrated. However, it should be noted that not every product in this world is that simple to formulate a marketing strategy for. There are quite a few marketing outlets and strategies at a company s disposal nowadays, including magazines, social media, TV, radio, and newspapers. Up until recent, companies made the most use of television, newspapers, and magazines. However, huge advancements and innovations in technology have opened up new doors when it comes to a brand new marketing strategy: social media. This has become the newest and most popular method of marketing strategy that companies nowadays are employing to fully comprehend their target markets. • 8. The Changing Role Of Flappers In The 1920 s The 1920s, out with the old and in with the new. The Roaring Twenties was the decade of change and prosperity where women wanted to be acknowledged for how they looked and dressed. Young women also became more independent. This is how the famous term of a flapper came to be. Flappers are young women and teenagers who dressed and acted differently with controversial behavior. Flappers brought a dramatic change to society that made women realize how they should be treated. In the past, women had to be submissive all the time and not voice their opinions. Back in the early centuries, women were involved in domestic violence and their husbands and boyfriends would control how they looked and acted. After World War I, many young men who fought did not return home. This left women to explore the world and try new things. They realized that life was too short to do anything but have fun. In this new age, many different opinions and controversies have arose. Foreign Affairs, a novel by Alison Lurie, uses fictional characters and events to create ideas, illustrated in the novel, that compel the reader to think about common societal issues and their causes. Foreign Affairs uses characters ideas on tourism and places emphasis on societal norms and the characters opinions of them as a catalyst to nudge the reader into this thought about common issues in society. Virginia (Vinnie) Miner, an advanced professor at Corinth University in the novel, illustrates societal behaviors and their impact on her. Fred Turner, another professor at Corinth University in the novel, discusses tourism and his opinions of it with friends in London, England. Plato s Allegory of the Cave , Comic by Scott McCloud, and Adam Gopnik s article Stones and Bones can be used as lenses to view Foreign Affairs. When using McCloud s lens, the emphasis on societal behaviors and tourism in Foreign Affairs, acts as a vehicle for cogitation on the reader s part about the actual and representational and their roles in the world today. Plato s lens, when applied to Foreign Affairs, leads the reader to consider the effects of people living in a representational world as opposed to living in the actual world. I feel bad for Huck Finn because although he never did enjoy school, he was taken out at such a young age so he has barely any educational background. His father is an abusive alcoholic that has never wanted the best for him. Huck is a very practical, creative, yet logical young boy. Metals are commonly solids at room temperature, malleable and ductile, they often have high tensile strength, they commonly have a silver or grayish white luster, and they are good conductors of heat and electricity. However, there are exceptions; mercury is a liquid at room temperature rather than solid, gold and copper are yellow and reddish brown rather than silver, and manganese and bismuth are brittle rather than malleable. Nonmetals as opposed to metals are not good conductors of electricity and heat, they are gases at room temperature, and nonmetals tend to be brittle. No one person is ever truly objective and by that respect, no historian is unbiased. Those who write history often have been the victors of battle, or swayed to one side of a story with a bias often in their favour. With the introduction of photography, one could assume that history could not be re written, yet since its birth, as with history itself, photography has been manipulated, staged and edited to portray an entirely alternate account of the events of the past. He would have cut out Trotsky and replaced the blank space with another negative from the site the original negative was taken before light exposure. Doing this method would be tricky and would take meticulous craftsmanship, so it was very easy to get wrong. An easier, more likely option, is that they edited the image by creating a photogram. To do this they would have used paper or another material to block the light in the shape of Trotsky, giving the illusion of a complete image in just one exposure. This method is a little less delicate and can be achieved via trial and error rather easily. David King who researched about the censorship that Stalin created in Communist Russia said that Whatever the state considered undesirable was withdrawn from view. In Stalin s time, this was a monumental task Stalin had a view of exactly how he wanted Russia to be ran, and in order to achieve that he thought that he had to hide and present what he wanted the public to see rather than what actually is happening. Trotsky had challenged his views and felt betrayed by the fact that he did not completely agree with how things were to be ran in Russia, so removed him from images to sway the public into agreeing that Trotsky was a traitor and should be exiled. ... • 13. Narrowcasting Media Bias In the past twenty years, the United States media has transformed from a broadcasting to a narrowcasting media. Each method has its unique differences, with one being the amount of bias from each source. Narrowcasting specifically, can greatly affect the media s ability to influence public opinion. Broadcasting is media programming that focuses on many genres of television. For instance, on a broadcasting channel, you can watch a drama, comedy, and news all in the same day. The three broadcasting networks, known as The Big 3 , are ABC, NBC, and CBS. When these broadcasting channels present news, they want to stay as close to the middle of the political spectrum as possible. The goal of a broadcasting channel is to appeal to everyone and the more neutral, fact based information released, the more views The Big 3 will get, resulting in more money. However, narrowcasting is media programming that is focused on a particular audience. Examples of narrowcasting networks include C SPAN, ESPN, Fox News, and CNN. ESPN stands for Entertainment and Sports Programming Network so they specialize in sports news and cater to the sports audience. Unlike broadcasting, narrowcasting will not try to appeal to the majority of Americans, so it can lean left or right on political issues and interject slightly more opinions. ... But among the supporters of Caesar, Octavian also had a natural opponent Mark Antony, the dictator s trusted lieutenant. Mark Antony was not at all like Octavian. He was a lot more attractive and physically stronger. Octavian had called upon Antony for help and support but was disappointed to find that he was jealous because Octavian had been named heir rather than himself. However, in the year 43BC after a period of unstableness in Rome, Octavian and Antony came to the realisation that they needed to make a political alliance. Alan Moore, in the graphic novel Watchmen (1986 1987), asserts Rorschach as an example of deontology. Moore supports his thoughts through dialogue and illustration. The author s purpose is to juxtapose philosophical beliefs by comparing their varied flaws through differing narrators points of view. The author takes a condescending tone in an effort to enrage his target audience of adult males. This paper seeks to illustrate, qualify, and challenge Moore s claim that Rorschach is a deontologist. The characters Dede from the Time of the Butterflies and Ismene from Antigone both strive to stay out of trouble with the government; however Dede s approach is more effective as she becomes an oracle character by the end of the novel, for she lives to tell the story of the Mirabal sisters. Dede uses her relationship with her sisters and her own family to survive through the dangerous reign of Trujillo. When facing a regime such as Trujillo s regime, the survivors who live to tell their story, like Dede, are crucial to understanding and analyzing important historical moments. Empirical Formula Lab Report Empirical Formula and Percent Composition of Magnesium Oxide Prediction Magnesium oxide is an ionic compound (metal cation bonded to non metal anion); therefore, we can determine its formula using the ionic charges of magnesium (Mg2+), and oxygen (O2 ). To comply with the octet rule, the elements combine at a ratio of 1:1;as a result, the formula is MgO (s) . We can theoretically predict the empirical formula, and the percent composition, through this procedure: 1) Two moles of magnesium combines with two moles of oxygen. 2Mg(s) + O2 (g) 2MgO(s) Mg= 2 moles O = 2 moles 2) Divide both values by the smallest value and place the results in ratio form. This could have happened if some magnesium strips were covered by others, eliminating their exposure to air. Due to this, the mass of oxygen increases since it is naturally diatomic and doubles up. For example, out of the 0.06 grams of magnesium, 0.02 grams might not have reacted. This unreacted metal allows an oxygen (which would have otherwise been bonded to it) to double up with itself and increase the mass of total oxygen. From dead champagne to the massacre at Dresden, every death in the book is seemingly equalized with the phrase so it goes . The continuation of this phrase ties in with the general theme on indifference in the story. If the Tralfamadorian view of time is correct, then everyone is continuously living every moment of their life and dying is not the end. However, if Vonnegut believed in this idea, then he wouldn t have felt compelled to write about the firebombing of Dresden. It is clear that both Billy Pilgrim and Kurt Vonnegut are affected by the massacre they saw, but they have different ways of rationalizing it. Billy finds comfort in the Tralfamadorian view of life, whereas Vonnegut disagrees, and urges the reader to disagree too. The constant repetition of so it goes breaks the reader away from the Tralfamadorian point of view, and allows them to come to their own conclusion that although it would be nice to forget the bad parts of life, it is important to remember all of the past. Vonnegut helps the reader come to this conclusion by repeating the phrase after gruesome moments, and showing how meaningless life can be if the Tralfamadorian ideas are believed, as seen through Billy Pilgrim s bland life.. The first use of so it goes comes in the first chapter, while Vonnegut is talking in the first person. He met a cab driver who was a German soldier and said things were much ... Many American citizens, specifically the children are not only living in poverty, but they are living below the poverty line due to low minimum wage (Gidfar). A child living in poverty can face serious problems in the future. Reducing poverty should not be charity work. As citizens of the world it should be a social responsibility to find a way in which poverty can no longer be a living status, especially for a developed country like America. It is one of the top countries before Mexico with the highest rate of child poverty (Gidfar). In context, minimum wage has a large impact on poverty within a country, as the higher the minimum wage the more disposable income families have access to. The discussion of how the elasticity of demand of unskilled workers determines whether or not the minimum wage should be raised to reduce child poverty is essential when validating the relationship between the two variables (Rutkowski 7). The treatment of kidney patients as chronic disease is one of the most important issues for world s health [4]because this disease has high rates of prevalence and incidence[5] and its treatment is associated with high cost and low recovery.[6] The National Kidney Foundation in United States has defined chronic kidney disease as kidney failure or Glomerular filtration less than 60 ml at 1/73 square meter of body surface area for three months or later [7]. Franz Kafka And The Metamorphosis Internal and External Demons: Franz Kafka and The Metamorphosis Without knowledge of deeper symbolism, The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka appears to be incredibly abstract and even humorous. The story is that of a man who transforms into a beetle within one evening and who struggles to endure. Upon scrupulous analyses, several forms of parallelism are evident within Kafka s short story, and Kafka s personal life is portrayed within The Metamorphosis in a mild manner to those who do not appreciate deeper meaning. Kafka s antagonist in The Metamorphosis mirrors Kafka himself. According to John Adams in 1818, the desire for independence was already in the hearts of Americans long before war broke out in 1775. This was untrue for many loyalists living in the colonies in 1775. However, there was simply nothing the mother country could do to stop her colonies from wanting to move on from its natural state of identity in order to grow into a unique and independent country. To begin with, Richard Bland in his 1766 An Inquiry Into the Rights of the British Colonies believed that America should be independent as to their internal government, of the original Kingdom, but united with her, as to their external policy... By the end of the summer, the Sons of Liberty harassed customs workers, stamp agents, and royal governors faced mob threats and hence stamp agents resigned all over. The Act was to become effective on November 1st, 1765, but colonial protests prevented stamped paper from being sold. In the month of October, 1765, delegates from nine colonies met in NYC. Congress issued a Declaration of Rights and Grievances: it stated that Parliament lacked power to impose taxes on the colonies because they were not represented in Parliament. This was the first time in which colonies began to set aside their differences and unite as one. Eventually, the Act was repealed and in 1766, Parliament issued the Declaratory Act: it addressed Parliament s full right to make laws in all cases whatsoever . The Tea Act was made in 1773 and it granted the East India Company the right to sell directly to the colonies, free of taxes, this would cut colonial merchants out of the tea trade because the company would sell for less. Sledge, is a memoir that tells the story of training and two battles fought on Peleliu and Okinawa during his time served in WWII in the K Company, 5th Marine regiment, 1st Marine Division. This memoir serves as a primary source that truly displays the horrors, conditions, and attitude that were felt by the soldiers that fought in the Pacific. This memoir examines the hardships that were felt by the Marines. As I got further into the book, I saw the changes in his character, integrity, and morality. I believe that the chapter titles surely represent the characteristics and feelings involved in the book. Making a Marine, Assault into Hell, Of Mud and Maggots are just some of chapters that provide the essence and foresight of the book. Making a Marine is a very ambiguous title for a chapter. Making a Marine does not just stand for a man in uniform. Making a Marine describes the blood, sweat, and tears that these brave men go through to serve their country. You people are recruits. Effects Of Jim Crow The Effect of Jim Crow Laws on the American South Soon after the Civil War, the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the Constitution abolished slavery, granted citizenship, and provided equal protection to formerly enslaved people. However, most southern states figured out ways to avoid these new laws and continued to deny the social and political rights of African Americans. Laws were passed and other measures were enforced by white southerners to produce a society separated by race. Specifically, southern legislatures passed new segregation laws which were referred to as the Jim Crow laws. These laws were apparently created to regulate social interactions between whites and blacks. In reality, the Jim Crow laws made life very challenging for African Americans in the post Civil War South because these laws intended to keep society segregated, reject the human and civil rights of African Americans, and keep blacks at the bottom of the social hierarchy. In the 1870s, white southerners implemented a racially segregated society across the South through the creation of the Jim Crow laws. For instance, whites only and colored signs rapidly increased throughout the American South as a constant reminder of the enforced racial order. These laws affected almost every aspect of daily life, mandating segregation of schools, parks, libraries, drinking fountains, restrooms, buses, trains, and restaurants ( Jim Crow ). In high school, I always had the most spirit and this week was one of my favorites. That being said, I looked forward to participating in the homecoming events this past fall football season. I gained from this experience is that both high school and college homecomings are sociological events that can be compared in many ways. The homecoming I am most familiar with is a high school homecoming. During the week, students would practice agency meaning the freedom individuals have to choose and act (Witt, 5). If you didn t want to participate in anything, people wouldn t force you to do it. Every day we would have different theme to go with our overall theme for the week. By putting up posters the week before, we used nonverbal communication, the use of gestures, facial expressions, and other visual images to communicate (Witt, 53) to spread the word about upcoming days. By the end of the week, everyone was ready to skip our last class and go to our infamous Pep Rally. At our Pep Rally you could see the different subcultures, segment of society that shares a distinctive pattern of mores, folkways, and values that differ from the pattern of the larger society (p.59) in the separation of the classes. Some scholars have argued that democracy hinders growth as a result of a collective action problem, while others argue it is the democratic institutions constraining government, and providing individual property rights which allows for economic growth (Montesquieu, 1748; Smith, 1776; Buchanan and Tullock, 1962; North and Thomas, 1973; North, 1981, 1990; Hall and Jones, 1999; Easterly and Levine, 2003; Rodrik, 2007). Finally, Wintrobe (1998) argues that the authoritarian elite successfully rules by repressing some in the population while nurturing the loyalty of others. Similarly, the threat of a rebellion by the opposition compels the dictator to share rents in Gandhi and Przeworski (2006). The literature on rent seeking suggests a means by which alternatives to collective action can insulate state actors from societal interests (Mares, 1993: 457). Rent creation implies rent distribution, creating incentives for rent seeking in the domestic economy; even efficient firms will devote resources either to capture the rents or to lobby for their elimination (Buchanan, p.35). Bates work on Africa demonstrates that, rather than simply buying off societal opposition, state actors can distribute rents to build supportive policy coalitions (1981). A second way for state actors to build a winning policy coalition is to help potential supporters of state preferences overcome barriers to collective action through their power to tax and regulate. Here, state actors can force would be free riders to contribute to the provision of the collective good (Olson, 1965). Reflective Essay On Infection Control In The Hospital Academic Literacy: Reflective essay 17 Aug. 14 Gillian van Aardt 214097226 Infection Control: In the hospital or clinical environment infection control must be exercised for the better health of the patient and to avoid exposure to the healthcare worker. Infection is the establishment and growth of a pathogen inside the human body. Infection control is thus the management of these infections to prevent injury to the patient resulting in disease. In the diagnostic ultrasound department, the good use of infection control is critical to avoiding contamination from patient to patient and to the sonographer because of the close proximity to each other and repeated use of medical equipment. In diagnostic medical sonography, the sonographer is very close to the patient physically which provides a gateway for infection to spread from the sonographer to the patient and vice versa. Child sexual abuse is a growing problem, and the stories that have begun to circulate around the world work to illustrate just how serious the problem is. Sociological Concepts Of Family, Gender, And Identity Essay This essay discusses the way in which I understand the sociological concepts of family, gender and race nuclear family, doing gender, and identity, in particular. Arguably, these three concepts can relate to each individuals life, through different personal experiences. To demonstrate my argument, I highlight relevant situations in my own life that further explain my chosen sociological concepts. The first concept I chose to focus on is family. In particular, the idea of the nuclear family . A nuclear family is defined as: A couple and their dependent children, regarded as a basic social unit. My research of this concept will focus on the theories of two sociologists George Peter Murdock, and Talcott Parsons. George Murdock s theory suggests that there are four essential functions of an ideal family. 1. Stable satisfaction of the sex drive, 2. The biological reproduction of the next generation, 3. Socialisation of the young, 4. Meeting its members economic needs (Thompson, 2014). According to Murdock, these four components are what keep the structure of the basic family unit intact, and by achieving these four functions create an ideal family model. An opposing theory is Talcott Parson s functional fit theory. Parson suggests that as society evolves, alternative forms of family life become more accepted. Society has progressed so much that single parents providing for their children is as normal as a nuclear family, and there tends to be less need for extended ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
