Holden s Alienation In Catcher In The Rye
Holden never quite fitted in to society s tradition norms and this is obvious from his poor academic
performance, scoffing at authority and his distinct choice of clothing that is promotes his isolation
even more but what exactly is Holden alienated from? At best society, but more importantly himself
and others and since Holden does not own up to his own mistakes nor ever assess his judgment which
purely reflects himself, he remains alienated from the world. Early one we learn that Holden is failing
the majority of his classes and the closest person to being considered his friend is Holden s history
teacher: Mr. Spencer, who is only someone who feels responsible for Holden s negligence in academic
performance but this is nothing extraordinary since Holden convinces many others to feel for him. ...

Haas and his friend Stradlater for being unscrupulous while comparably, Holden isn t any different.
For instance after agreeing with Old Spencer regarding life as a game, internally Holden admitted that
this idea was idiotic and Holden had no problem divulging this to the reader and the reader might find
this insignificant but quite coincidentally, these occurrences happen whenever reality is too much for
Holden to handle. A great example of this was when Old Spencer asked Holden if his future was
significant to him, to which Holden divulges to the reader that this subject is quite depressing for him
but in order for a simple concept such as the future to be so depressing, one may infer that Holden has
gone through a series of unhealthy events in his life that have made him feel as if life is

The Difference of Warfare between World War 1 and World War 2
World War Warfare was one of the greatest examples of technological advancement and strategic
challenge, with the introduction of inventions such as the aircraft and the tank the battlefield
transformed from attrition as scene in the early years of the war to decisive by the end of the war.
Naval Warfare
World War 1
While the naval war is usually known for only little attention in histories of World War I, the Royal
Navy s blockade of Germany played a dangerous role in the War. The U.S. Navy linking with the
Royal Navy played a significant role in overcoming the German U boats in the North Atlantic. The
Germany Navy while technically effective disastrously diminished the German war effort. Germany s
building of a High Seas Fleet was one of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Afterwards the Japanese strike on Pearl Harbor, the US joined the clash. With them, they brought
potentially substantial naval resources, along the great Royal Navy. However, the war in the Pacific
relied heavily on US naval attendance which in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor had seen the US fail to
keep a number of battleships. So, naval warfare in WW2 had many innovations. The aircraft carrier
was the most noteworthy and became the most potent naval assets which the Allies gained an
increasing monopoly in. However, submarines were also deadly in Europe and the Pacific against
merchant and supply ships. The human torpedoes of the Italian Malali were possibly the most
innovative, and were also effective enough to influence the Royal Navy to research human torpedoes
themselves.
Air Warfare
World War 1
At the start of World War One bomb aiming was crude in the extreme. The pilot or co pilot if the
aircraft carried two people simply dropped a small bomb over the side of the aircraft in the general
direction of a target. If a bomb dropped anywhere near a target it was through good luck more than
anything else. By the end of the war aircraft that could be recognized as long range bombers had been
developed. Much larger than fighters, and far less maneuverable, their task was very specific to carry
to a target as many bombs as was feasible and to drop them on said target with a degree of accuracy.
The Germans had the

An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge Literary Analysis
Romanticized stories are those that show an idyllic yet unrealistic view of reality. It s the picturesque
quality of romance that draws the reader in. One example of this is in An Occurence at Owl Creek
Bridge by Ambrose Bierce. In An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge, Bierce increases the impact of the
story s ending by romantically depicting Farquhar s escape and following the romantic portrayal with
a sudden snap back to reality. An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge follows a man named Peyton
Farquhar before, during, and after his execution. The ending of the story is told to seem like Farquhar
heroically escapes the execution and makes it back to his loving wife, however, in the last paragraph it
is made clear that the romantically described escape was just what flashed before his eyes during his
death. The romantic depiction of his imagined escape is what makes the ending so powerful. It brings
the reader on a happy journey before harshly turning back to reality. ... Show more content on

An example of these powers is his newfound strength. He watched [his hands] with a new interest as
first one and then the other pounced upon the noose at his neck. They tore it away and thrust it fiercely

from his neck while underwater, which normally would be an impossible feat. Along with exceptional
strength, Farquhar also seems to gain immunity to death during his escape. When fired at after
escaping the noose, some of [the bullets] touched him on the face and hands, then fell away,
continuing their descent (2). Instead of killing him, bullets just fall away from him in a romantically
ideal manner. Portraying Farquhar as having superhuman powers is one of many romantic

Hong Kong and Its Moving Identity
Rouge, Infernal Affairs
And the Moving Identity of Hong Kong
In the book Hong Kong Cinema: Coloniser, motherland and self , the author Yingchi Chu describes
Hong Kong as [a] nation without sovereignty (98). It is because of the unique and complicating
historical experience that Hong Kong people have been going through since its early beginning. From
the early time until before 1842, Hong Kong was considered to be a territory of China. In 1842, China
officially ceded Hong Kong to the British after the First Opium War due to the rise of British s power;
and from that moment to 1997, Hong Kong had been remaining as a British s colony and experiencing
the very distinct cultural development and social changes. The year 1997 marked the ... Show more

In addition, the sense of disorientation is also displayed through the way the past story and present
story are narrated. The story of Fleur and the story of the present couple are not presented in linear
time from past to present but in the way that the past and the present are intermingled and its boundary
is blurred. Also, the story of Fleur is in the past tense but it is an unfinished story which keeps
presenting and haunting the present. The confusion projected by the merger of past and present clearly
speaks to the feeling of disorientation of Hong Kong people when facing with their dramatic future
changes. Experiencing that undesirable feelings, Hong Kong people yearn for their past as a mean of
escaping from the awful reality. Their longing to the past is expressed in the juxtaposition of 1930s
Hong Kong and 1980s Hong Kong. As mention above, the past story of Fleur and the story of present
couple, Yuan Ting and Chu, are intermingled. One of the purposes of the juxtaposition is to highlight
and emphasize the world of difference between two versions of Hong Kong. The society of Hong
Kong in 1980s is depicted through the life of the present couple who are both so occupied with their
works; they do not even have enough time for work, let alone time for pleasure and relax. The first

Allegory In A Rose For Emily
Some people love change, but others absolutely dislike it. When something big changes in one s life,
will it change who they are, or will they fight back? This short story shows how when a person grows
up relying only on one person when they leave, it will change everything about that person. In the
southern gothic story A rose for Emily by William Faulkner uses characterization, allegory, and
allusion display the idea that the toll that death can take on one s life could be drastic.
Characterization showed the true personality of Miss Emily and how her father s death shaped her.
The many issues in this short story all started at how Miss Emily was raised. She was raised to only
rely on her father, who was very protective over her. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

We can see that this story makes a lot of indirect references in the text. I want some poison, the best
that you have. I didn t care what kind. (pg. 3) Allusion is shown because it made it seem like she was
going to commit suicide. This is evidence that she most likely killed Homer Barron because he was
poorer while her dad wasn t, so she knew that he would never approve, which could ve cause her to
kill him. This created an allusion in her mind that it was acceptable for her to poison someone because
of what her dead father would think.
Characterization, allegory, and allusion all play a large role as to why Miss Emily has attachment
issues and is unable to move on from the past and look forward to the future. Though there was no
visible or literal rose, it did symbolize Miss Emily and how she started out mentally healthy and then
as all the major events took place, it shows how roses fade, along with her mental health. This story is
the perfect example to not be too not let the struggles in life overcome

Sex Versus Gender Essay
Sex Versus Gender
*No Works Cited A person is born either male or female, however according to Mead the roles of
males and females are conditioned by that person s given culture. There were two articles studied by
Group D, the first one tries to prove that men or women can be the aggressive sex, while the second
article deals on which sex talks more and why. What it comes down too is, that both articles try to
distinguish which sex is more dominant and why. Margaret Mead article, Sex and Temperament in
Three Primitive Societies, describes research done to see if cultures contribute to the shaping of a
person. The research done involves three primitive groups, the Arapesh, the Mundugumor, and the
Tchambuli. IN each of the groups ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, women strapped to ducking stools, held underwater, gagged, and silenced by cleft sticks
applied to their tongues. But as it turns out men rather than women talk more, in meetings, in mixed
groups, and in classrooms. To further back up this discovery, researchers found out that when men
talked the range lasted from 10.66 to 17.07 seconds, while when women talked it lasted from 3 to 10
seconds. Report talk and Rapport talk are two different techniques men and women use when they
communicate with each other. Report talk deals more with men and public speaking, while rapport
talk deals with women and private speaking. Report talk is used by men because they feel more
comfortable talking in public than women do. When men talk they joke around, tell stories, this is a
way for them to get attention. That s why men are more comfortable speaking in larger groups made
up of people they know less. Rapport talk is when women talk to each other on a more personal level.
Women talk mostly to other women , to gossip, to see how their day went, and just to get to know each
other. Women feel the closest when they feel at home or when their with people they feel close and
comfortable with. The reason why women find it so difficult to talk in public is, this is the way they
were conditioned. Women are looked at as being to talkative, why because when they do

The Impact of African American Sitcoms on America s Culture
Since its start, the television industry has been criticized for perpetuating myths and stereotypes about
African Americans through characterizations, story lines, and plots. The situation comedy has been the
area that has seemed to draw the most criticism, analysis, and disapproval for stereotyping. From
Sanford and Son and The Jefferson s in the 1970s to The Cosby Show (1984) and The Fresh Prince of
Bel Air in the 1990s, sitcoms featuring black casts and characters have always been controversial.
However, their significance upon our American culture cannot be disregarded. During the 1950s and
1960s, 97% of the families were Caucasian. In the first five years of the ... Show more content on

It was criticized for negative stereotyping. Louise Jefferson was like an old south Mammy , and
George, although rich, was always the butt of someone s joke, whom no one really respected.
The difference between the earlier produced Sanford and Son and The Jefferson s was that The
Jefferson s was based around a strong father figure compared to the drunken old man in Sanford and
Son who was not ever there for his children. The Jefferson s, although initially more racist like
Sanford and Son, changed with the times and became less racist. As the show went on, there were
signs of less stereotyping. Louise lost her afro and started speaking better, and George became less
racist in his attitudes. This change reflected the less strained race relations in the early 1980s.
The Cosby Show was one of the biggest hits on television. It was about an African American upper
middle class black family. The Huxtables lived in a fashionable neighborhood. The dad, Heathcliff,
was a well respected doctor, and the mom, Clair, was a successful attorney. Their only son, Theo, was
an underachiever, and the oldest daughter, Sondra, was a college student at Princeton. Their middle
daughter, Denise, tested her parents patience frequently, but they always loved her. Rudy, the baby of
the family, had a wonderful, entertaining childhood. All of the Huxtable kids were loved and steered
clear of serious trouble. They never really had to worry about money.

Traffic Congestion In Hampton Roads
Although the Hampton Roads area is one of the biggest tourist destinations on the east coast, it faces a
problem of traffic congestion. Many residents spend hours stuck in traffic around the area everyday.
There are many elements in the area that develop the inevitable traffic congestion that plague the
Hampton Roads. The main reasons of traffic congestion are heavy military presence, bridges and
tunnels, and poor methods of alternate transportation. The consequences of heavy traffic are delays in
commute, more accidents on the road, and noise and air pollution. Norfolk is home to the largest
Naval Base in the world, along with five other bases for all branches of the military. As a result, the
number of cars commuting is increased. Another factor to consider is the tunnels and bridges that are
in the geographical area. Because this area is built around the Chesapeake Bay and many other rivers,
there is no avoiding the tunnels and bridges built to commute across the area. The ... Show more

The biggest effect that residents have is long delays in getting to and from work. Due to the
expectation of heavy congestion on the roads, residents must allow more time to commute to work and
also spend more time in traffic when they are trying to get home. The average time spent in traffic is
45 minutes during rush hour. Another consequence of heavy traffic is an increase in automobile
accidents. Because drivers become frustrated or angry due to heavy traffic, drivers are more
aggressive and are more likely to cause an accident. Lastly, traffic causes noise and air pollution that
make the city less attractive place to live. Since the traffic on the interstates create a large amount of
noise, the price of homes near the interstate are reduced or become harder to attract homebuyers. Also,
the amount of pollution created from automobiles on the road, contaminated the air that sometimes
lead to heath problems over

Dorian Gray Influence
Upon meeting with Lord Henry, Dorian is almost immediately inspired by him. He is influenced by
his philosophy of hedonism, his constant preaching about living the life of earthly pleasures, and how
there is no such thing as a good influence. In the beginning, Dorian is portrayed as a pure, innocent
soul which is prone to influence, as it s implied all throughout the novel that Dorian is the monster
Lord Henry created. But this is not entirely true. A person cannot have such strong hold and influence
on another person to completely change their character from good to evil in such a short amount of
time. These qualities must be within the person to begin with, which leads us to the inference that
Dorian would have become that monster with or without Lord Henry s crafting hands. ... Show more

Global Strategy Of Hong Kong And Shanghai Bank Essay
In Depth Integrative Case 4.1: HSBC in China
1. How has HSBC adapted its global strategy to operate in China, both before and after China s WTO
accession?
China s financial industry was just another piece of the centrally planned or command economy of
China before any World Trade Organization (WTO) accession agreements were put in place.
Regulated lending practices where govern for the banks to hewed to and indeed produced a few of
China s notable thriving businesses, at the same time sustained hundreds of additional incompetent
and profitless state owned operations.
This manner transmitted state commercial banks with an extensive mass of debt that happened to be
essentially unrecoverable and swarms of non performing credits. In the year 1865, Hong Kong and
Shanghai Bank (HSBC) was established to bankroll the expanding trade between China, Europe, and
India. HSBC quickly extended their reach by opening offices worldwide with a sustained sharp center
in China as well as particular Asia Pacific territories. As the decade of 1880 approached the calendar,
the group provided maintenance of British administration accounts in the countries, China, Japan,
Penang, and Singapore. HSBC also secured state funds in Hong Kong and distributed banknotes.
Following the two World Wars, HSBC aimed to a climactic extension within takeovers and mergers to
diversify the company. In 1993, the bank relocated their headquarters from Hong Kong to London
while they proceeded with their global

Ronald Reagan Obstacles
There are many people in this world that are influential. These people fight for what they believe in,
they go after what they want, and go past obstacles that they face. An individual that shows these traits
would be the 40th president of the United States of America, Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan is
influential because of his beliefs, he fought for what he thought could be a better America, he also
went after what he wanted which was to become 40th president of the United States, he also went past
obstacles in his life one obstacle that he faced was winning his 2nd term Ronald Reagan, our 40th

of Americans in Iran swept the Republican ticket into office . This shows me that since he was swept

example is that on history.com it says The couple divorced . This shows me that since he got in a
divorce, it was a very hard time for him, but he got remarried and had 2 more kids. Finally, on
whitehouse.gov it says On January 20, 1981, Reagan took office. Only 69 days later he was shot by a

and then returned to duty happy and healthy and that is all that matters. These are some obstacles that
Ronald Reagan faced in his life. Ronald Reagan our 40th president made our country better.
In conclusion Ronald Reagan was a very influential person in our world. He did what he believed,

The Holy One of Israel in Isaiah
The Holy One of Israel This essay concerns about the meaning of the divine title The Holy One of
Israel in the Book of Isaiah. It is going to state clearly the study approach before going into the
discussion.
Approach of this essay
The book of Isaiah had been studied through different approaches of which three are quite
distinctive[1].
(1) A pre critical, or traditional, understanding, still found in some conservative scholars. They keep
the entire book of Isaiah connected to the prophet Isaiah of the eighth century B.C.E. There is nothing
intrinsically impossible as the approach is prophecy . With the rise of historical criticism , such an
approach has been commonly rejected in the interpretive world.

Israel acquires holiness by being obedient to God s commandments and faithful to His covenant (Lev
11:44; Deut 28:9)[4]. The concept of holiness permeates the life of Israel. Even the land occupied by
the people is considered holy (Zech 2:12). The capital city Jerusalem is designated as the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High (Ps 46:4).
The Holy One of Israel
The term The Holy One of Israel reflects the dialectical relation between The Holy One and Israel . It
is a relation with the Holy One with a non holy entity[5]. The Holy One requires Israel to be holy. Be
holy because I, the Lord Your God, am holy (Lev 19:2). The separate one becomes the attached one.
Their relation is bound by covenant. The challenge of the relation is Israel s unfaithfulness in
worshipping other god s. The most notable example is the imposition of Baal worship on the northern
kingdom by Ahab s marriage to Jezebel. Both the northern and the southern kingdoms suffered
captivity. Any rebellious from Israel side causes discipline from The Holy One side. Exile from Israel
causes In the midst from the other, punishment causes redemption , go astray causes teaches and leads
etc. In the Book of Isaiah, the Holy One is the Lord, God. The Lord has passion. He is angry at Israel
who rejects His laws (5:24; 31:1) but His compassion is good news more directly for the powerless
(29:19). He is the Creator of Israel (43:15), the Maker of this nation (17:7;

Blackwood Vs Holmes

Essay On The Movie Hamlet
In a shocking turn of events, by the grace of God, director and actor Kenneth Branagh made a two
hundred and forty two minute Shakespeare movie watchable. We begin with a wedding celebration
between Claudius, Hamlet s uncle, and Hamlet s mother. Hamlet s father, the King, has suddenly died
an untimely death. The colors in this scene are bright and white, the color of innocents and newborns.
Flower petals are descending from the ceiling in joy, and everyone is cheering. From there, we pan
over to a solitary figure in the hallway, Hamlet. Hamlet, clad in black, watches the kingdom rejoice at
the celebration while he is still in mourning for his late father. As a viewer, we realize here that the

Hamlet has a very convoluted plot. It begins with Hamlet seeing his father s ghost and telling Hamlet
that he was wrongfully murdered by his own brother, the new king of Denmark. His father s ghost
asks Hamlet to avenge him and take back the crown. This scene really sends Hamlet down the rabbit
hole because we know later on in the film that he has a difficult time pursuing his uncle, Claudius
(played by Derek Jacobi). The prince of Denmark goes through madness, murder, an unsure love
interest, he directs a play, conspires against friends, and finally gets revenge against his uncle, but not
without killing almost everyone in the movie. As mentioned earlier, Ophelia (played by Kate Winslet)
is a young and beautiful lady who is in love with Hamlet. However, her father and brother tell her to
stay away from Hamlet because he only sees her as an object of lust. We see more of Ophelia in this
movie then we do in the play. In the actual play, it mostly focuses on Hamlet and his madness, but in
Branagh s film version we get to see the effect Hamlet has on everyone. This includes the new king,
Claudius who is seen as a vicious and cunning serpent. Hamlet s sweet and gentle mother, the queen,
was thrown into a plague over her worry for Hamlet and his sanity. Other characters include Polonius,
Laertes, Horatio, and Fortinbras, all who contribute to Hamlet s downfall or witness

chrysogenum is proper for the CPC production, but A. chrysogenum grows slowly in comparison to
other microorganisms. The fermentation time could be reduced by fermentation engineering. The
process of conversion to 7 ACA from CPC is also important to increase the productivity of 7 ACA.
The economics of P ACA process for 7 ACA from waste carbohydrate showed the possibility of
industrialization. Then, various factors of the process, governing the efficiency of process, were

3.2. Factorial design of process and evaluation of economics
Full factorial analysis was performed to investigate the major factors concerned with the economics.
The major key factors were listed, and the values of factors were coded. The center points of coded
values were set as follows: feedstock (carbohydrates) quantity, 2,407.0 kg per batch; carbohydrates,
16.0% (w/v); CPC yield 12.7%; fermentation time, 120 h; and 7 ACA yield, 87.0%. The maximum
fermentation vessel volume was designed to be 35,000 L, accommodating all the values of variance

Theme Of Nature In Thoreau
discards the language of obedience and redemption used by the church. To Thoreau, Nature and God
are at once synonymous and interconnected: Next to us the grandest laws are continually being
executed. Next to us is not the workman we have hired, with whom we love so well to talk, but the
workman whose work we are. (175) Thoreau believes in a creator god, a living god that makes of
Nature his home. Thoreau feels Nature is a divine space: a space where man is able to feel close to his
god, a space where man is able to appreciate his god s favors and Nature is the space where man can
embrace the god within himself. Influenced by Emerson, Coleridge and Wordsworth, among others,
Thoreau thinks that nature is the source of strength, spirituality ... Show more content on

that way, but never getting on more than half a rod at a time; and then suddenly pausing with a

as a whole, as a distinct, living and essential presence rather than as an accumulation of items to which
man assigns significance. The interconnectedness of the various components of nature is illustrated in
this passage of Walden: Standing at the smooth sandy beach at

Fallen Societies from Failure of Rulers
John F. Kennedy once wrote, Efforts and courage are not enough without direction. From this I think
he s saying societies can fall if their not ruled the right way. And some of the societies seemed like
nothing could get in their way, but obviously they did because they didn t take good care of them. That
goes for a lot of other places also. Great societies fall due to social inequalities, a dysfunctional or
corrupt government, a crippled and inflating economy, and over expansion. That s why Nazi Germany,
The Civil Rights Era in America, and Ancient Rome didn t survive. A number of societies fall because
of rebellion and the people not being happy. All of the kids in my dystopian novel were upset with the
Unwinding process. They couldn t take the fear that they had to go through from the ages 13 18.
While reading you could feel the fear they went through such as, and in seconds, disobedience erupts
into a full scale revolt. Every terrible is now a terror. The guards fire, but there are simply too many
kids, and not enough tranq bullets. For every kid that goes down, there s another kid that doesn t. The
guards are quickly overwhelmed, and once they are, the mob starts storming the front gate (311). A lot
of people were forced out of their public life so that was really a con and started a rebellion. The
citizens of that society thought that this was completely unfair and they wouldn t stand for it. An
example of this was, Although many of these citizens proved to be

Analysis Of The Article Addicted To Love By Steven Johnson
The Cuddly Hormone Oxytocin
Introduction
Addicted to Love, written by Steven Johnson is an article that discusses the effect of oxytocin on the
brain. Throughout the article, Johnson examines effects of oxytocin, the study of oxytocin in rodents,
and the relationship of addiction and oxytocin. Johnson discusses the general effects oxytocin can
have on the human brain while explaining some general behaviours. He then discusses a study
conducted on oxytocin in prairie and montane voles. Lastly Johnson dissects the phrase addicted to
love and proves that this could actually be true.

She conducted her experiment by taking the prairie vole and injecting oxytocin into the brain. She
observed that the voles formed bonds quicker than usual. Then she injected a chemical into the brain
of the vole that blocks oxytocin receptors. When this chemical was injected, the voles were no longer
forming the bonds previously observed. In the 1980 s Tom Insel began a comparative study comparing
the brains of the prairie vole and their less monogamous cousin the montane vole. When studying the
brains of each rodent, he found that the brain of the faithful voles had oxytocin receptors overlapping
with dopamine receptors (coordinates many seeking/appetitive behaviours) in nucleus accumbens (the
pleasure centre of the brain). Because the oxytocin is being released in the pleasure centre of the brain,
it is suggested that this causes a feel good sensation in the brain of prairie voles. When he studied the
brain of the unfaithful voles, he found that the oxytocin receptors were found in the reward centre of
the brain versus the pleasure centre. Due to the location of oxytocin release in the brain of the montane
vole, it has no effect on their mating

Thucydides During The Peloponnesian War
This is part of a larger work, History of the Peloponnesian War, where Thucydides records his during
the Peloponnesian War from his perspective and sources he has used. The extract is set during the first
Battle of Mantinea (418 BC) during the Peloponnesian War with Sparta and her allies against Athens,
Argos, and Mantinea. What Thucydides is saying in this extract is that the Spartan King Agis knew
that the opposing army would extend their right wing out of fear to shield themselves and so he
planned to combat this by reinforcing his left wing so then they wouldn t get overwhelmed . He uses
this as part of an explanation as to how Agis left wing was put under pressure during the battle due to

This extract is set during Xerxes invasion and how he captured Athens with little resistance due to
very few people remaining after most Athenians had evacuated. Here it details why some Athenians
stayed behind instead of fleeing to Salamis with everyone else. Herodotus is the earliest known
historian but his work is not infallible. Herodotus himself mentions that he merely records what he
learns and it is not his business to decide if it is true or not . This indicates that not everything he has
written is necessarily correct and is up to discussion by readers. This can lead to both truthful accounts
and biased stories with little accuracies. Many have accused Herodotus of telling stories which J. A. S.

Summary Of Federalist Paper 10
In his Federalist Paper 10, Madison refers to the word factions numerous times. A faction is a small,
organized, dissenting group within a larger one in politics. Madison believes factions cause problems
among other different factions because they the majority always wins. If Madison were alive today, he
would see both political parties as factions. He would also view different unions and organizations as
factions. In general, Madison would see any group which shares a common interest and works
together to promote their community as a faction. Madison also explores the causes and sources of
factions in his essay. He states that the causes of a faction can be regarded to the nature of men. This is

Myasthenia Gravis in Pets and Companion Animals
Every muscle in your body is controlled by your nervous system. The brain sends signals, or impulses
down your spinal column and out through the nervous system controlling the contraction and
relaxation of every muscle in your body, from the ones that control your eyelids to the ones that you
use to walk and jump. The same is true for your pets and companion animals.

Over time, this incomplete or improper contraction of the muscles leads to weakness, prohibiting them
from exercising and being able to stand normally for extended periods of time. Additionally, the
condition can affect the muscles that regulate swallowing correctly and even the muscles that enable
your pet to breathe.
Congenital Versus Acquired Myasthenia Gravis
There are two basic forms of myasthenia gravis congenital and acquired. With the congenital form of
the disease, animals are born with too little of the receptors for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine.
This type of MG is very rare and has only been found in Smooth haired Fox terriers, Springer
Spaniels, and Jack Russell terriers. The acquired form of the disease is caused by a faulty immune
system and accounts for the overwhelming majority of cases. In acquired MG the affected animal s
immune system generates antibodies that attack the acetylcholine receptors in the animal s muscles.

Symptoms And Treatment Of Arthritis Essay
While everyone wishes to live to advanced age, it is not always that old age is enjoyable. Living to see

J. C. Penny Organizational Culture
The culture at J. C. Penny before Johnson can be described as inclusive and employee centered. The
organizational culture can perhaps be described as a hierarch culture. A hierarchy culture has an
internal focus and produces more formalized and structured work environment (Kreitner, p. 70). The
founder, James Cash Penny, managed his stores under the philosophy of providing the best customer
service at the best price. He truly believed in giving his customers the best deal possible. The company

leadership. One of the processes that I would have recommended to Johnson at the beginning of his

attention to, measure, and control. The behavior of Johnson and his new management team suggested
that they rejected learning about the existing culture at J.C. Penny and how and why things are done

Weald and Downland open air museum is the place that provides ancient buildings and lifestyle of the

civil engineers is the grid shell. The Downland grid shell was built as a workshop for the museum and
let the workmen to fix their houses or to study their own projects. Grid shell was made by timber to
form in a triple sandglass shape without column and beam. The important fact about the Downland
grid shell is it is noted to be the first twice layered lumber grid shell in the UK.(Harris et al.,
2003)This would mean that grid shell must be unique and difficult to form the shape. In this essay I

knowledges. Grid shell is the structure that has a property like a shell shape. This would mean that
grid shell must obtain only compression force and the force is allowed to pass through the arch of the
grid shell. The benefit of geometric shape of grid shell is it provides stability to the structure.
Therefore grid shell can stand itself without any supports(Paoli, 2007). In order to accomplish the grid
shell client(museum) had to consult with architecture and engineering company. After that oak lath

must not be covert. It should be clear to any normal person who inspects the property that someone is

Naval Warfare World War 1 While the naval war is usually known for only little attention in histories of World War I, the Royal Navy s blockade of Germany played a dangerous role in the War. Afterwards the Japanese strike on Pearl Harbor, the US joined the clash. With them, they brought potentially substantial naval resources, along the great Royal Navy. However, the war in the Pacific relied heavily on US naval attendance which in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor had seen the US fail to keep a number of battleships. So, naval warfare in WW2 had many innovations. The aircraft carrier was the most noteworthy and became the most potent naval assets which the Allies gained an increasing monopoly in. However, submarines were also deadly in Europe and the Pacific against merchant and supply ships. The human torpedoes of the Italian Malali were possibly the most innovative, and were also effective enough to influence the Royal Navy to research human torpedoes themselves. Air Warfare World War 1 At the start of World War One bomb aiming was crude in the extreme. The pilot or co pilot if the aircraft carried two people simply dropped a small bomb over the side of the aircraft in the general direction of a target. If a bomb dropped anywhere near a target it was through good luck more than anything else. By the end of the war aircraft that could be recognized as long range bombers had been developed. Much larger than fighters, and far less maneuverable, their task was very specific to carry to a target as many bombs as was feasible and to drop them on said target with a degree of accuracy. • 4. An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge Literary Analysis Romanticized stories are those that show an idyllic yet unrealistic view of reality. It s the picturesque quality of romance that draws the reader in. One example of this is in An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge by Ambrose Bierce. In An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge, Bierce increases the impact of the story s ending by romantically depicting Farquhar s escape and following the romantic portrayal with a sudden snap back to reality. An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge follows a man named Peyton Farquhar before, during, and after his execution. The ending of the story is told to seem like Farquhar heroically escapes the execution and makes it back to his loving wife, however, in the last paragraph it is made clear that the romantically described escape was just what flashed before his eyes during his death. The romantic depiction of his imagined escape is what makes the ending so powerful. It brings the reader on a happy journey before harshly turning back to reality. ... Also, the story of Fleur is in the past tense but it is an unfinished story which keeps presenting and haunting the present. The confusion projected by the merger of past and present clearly speaks to the feeling of disorientation of Hong Kong people when facing with their dramatic future changes. Experiencing that undesirable feelings, Hong Kong people yearn for their past as a mean of escaping from the awful reality. Many residents spend hours stuck in traffic around the area everyday. There are many elements in the area that develop the inevitable traffic congestion that plague the Hampton Roads. The main reasons of traffic congestion are heavy military presence, bridges and tunnels, and poor methods of alternate transportation. • 23. Analysis Of The Article Addicted To Love By Steven Johnson The Cuddly Hormone Oxytocin Introduction Addicted to Love, written by Steven Johnson is an article that discusses the effect of oxytocin on the brain. Throughout the article, Johnson examines effects of oxytocin, the study of oxytocin in rodents, and the relationship of addiction and oxytocin. Johnson discusses the general effects oxytocin can have on the human brain while explaining some general behaviours. He then discusses a study conducted on oxytocin in prairie and montane voles. Lastly Johnson dissects the phrase addicted to love and proves that this could actually be true. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She conducted her experiment by taking the prairie vole and injecting oxytocin into the brain. She observed that the voles formed bonds quicker than usual. Then she injected a chemical into the brain of the vole that blocks oxytocin receptors. When this chemical was injected, the voles were no longer forming the bonds previously observed. In the 1980 s Tom Insel began a comparative study comparing the brains of the prairie vole and their less monogamous cousin the montane vole. When studying the brains of each rodent, he found that the brain of the faithful voles had oxytocin receptors overlapping with dopamine receptors (coordinates many seeking/appetitive behaviours) in nucleus accumbens (the pleasure centre of the brain). Because the oxytocin is being released in the pleasure centre of the brain, it is suggested that this causes a feel good sensation in the brain of prairie voles. When he studied the brain of the unfaithful voles, he found that the oxytocin receptors were found in the reward centre of the brain versus the pleasure centre. Due to the location of oxytocin release in the brain of the montane vole, it has no effect on their mating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The extract is set during the first Battle of Mantinea (418 BC) during the Peloponnesian War with Sparta and her allies against Athens, Argos, and Mantinea. What Thucydides is saying in this extract is that the Spartan King Agis knew that the opposing army would extend their right wing out of fear to shield themselves and so he planned to combat this by reinforcing his left wing so then they wouldn t get overwhelmed . This extract is set during Xerxes invasion and how he captured Athens with little resistance due to very few people remaining after most Athenians had evacuated. Here it details why some Athenians stayed behind instead of fleeing to Salamis with everyone else. Herodotus is the earliest known historian but his work is not infallible. Herodotus himself mentions that he merely records what he learns and it is not his business to decide if it is true or not . This indicates that not everything he has written is necessarily correct and is up to discussion by readers. This can lead to both truthful accounts and biased stories with little accuracies. Many have accused Herodotus of telling stories which J. A. S. Evans mentions Cicero, saying that the oracle told to Croesus of Lydia was just invented for storytelling . However despite this there are still many truths to Herodotus work. According to Barry Strauss, the evacuation of Athens being prompted by Themistocles is backed by a stone document from ca. 300 BC which may indeed be based upon the original document passed by the Athenian assembly . Herodotus is fair when dealing with non Greeks.
