Physical And Psychological Effects Of Depressants
Drugs are substances that have physical and psychological effects on the body. Once an individual
has taken drugs multiple times they start to build a tolerance. When tolerance is built an individual
will up the dosage of the drug. Now the individual will be addicted to the drug. People are addicted
to drugs to compliment physical and psychological dependence. There are many different types of
drugs such as psychoactive drugs, stimulants, and hallucinogens. Psychoactive drugs are drugs that
affect conciseness, mood, and your thoughts. Depressants are a type of psychoactive drug. Physical
effects of Depressants are Lowered blood pressure, Poor concentration, Confusion, Fatigue,
Dizziness, Slurred speech, and Fevers. Most depressants attack... Show more content on

Some of the most common stimulants are methamphetamine, caffeine, nicotine, cocaine, and
Ecstasy. Methamphetamine is a highly addictive stimulant drug. Its physical effects include
disturbed sleep patterns, Nausea, and Bizarre, erratic, sometimes violent behavior.
Methamphetamine increases the amount of dopamine, which results in increased chemicals in the
brain. Methamphetamine is a dopamine agonist. Caffeine is a CNS stimulant. It is the world s most
consumed drug. Some physical effects include high blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, and
hyperglycemia. Caffeine binds to our brain s adenosine receptors; preventing the chemical from
binding with the receptors and making us tired. (This is what caffeine does to your brain, 2014)
Caffeine is a receptor antagonist. Nicotine is a highly addictive chemical substance present in
tobacco. Some physical effects include heart disease, stroke, and depression. The nicotine molecule
is shaped like a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. Acetylcholine and its receptors are involved
in many functions, including muscle movement, breathing, heart rate, learning, and memory. They
also cause the release of other neurotransmitters and hormones that affect your mood, appetite,
memory, and more. When nicotine gets into the brain, it attaches to acetylcholine receptors and
mimics the actions of acetylcholine. (How Does Nicotine Act in the Brain? 2015) Nicotine is an
agonist to ACH. Cocaine is a highly addictive drug synthetically derived from coca. Some physical
effects of cocaine include increased heart rate, body temperature, and increased rate of breathing.
Normally, dopamine is then recycled back into the transmitting neuron by a specialized protein
called the dopamine transporter. If cocaine is present, it attaches to the dopamine transporter and
blocks the normal recycling process, resulting in a buildup of dopamine in the synapse, which
contributes to the pleasurable effects of cocaine.

Essay on Karen Horney s The Distrust Between the Sexes
Karen Horney s The Distrust Between the Sexes
In Karen Horney s The Distrust Between the Sexes, she attempts to explain the problems in the
relationships between men and women. She writes that to understand the problem you must first
understand that problems stem from a common background. A large amount of suspiciousness is
due to people s intensity of emotions.
Early in Horney s essay, she defines passion and discusses why it is rare. People do not feel safe
putting all of their faith and trust in only one other person. Horney explains that self preservation is
part of human instinct, and people have a fear of losing themselves in their loved one.
Next, Horney explains how people often overlook their own impulses. The ... Show more content on

Next Horney explains that children undergo painful experiences of being betrayed and lied to.
They may also have to submit to taking second place to a family member. The child is helpless in
all of this and the child s only way to vent fury and anger is in the form of extravagant fantasies.
These fantasies are often brutal, criminal, and destructive in nature. The child s inability to
understand these destructive forces makes them equally fearful of adults.
Horney goes on to explain the later childhood side of relationship fears. A little girl who represses
her wish, due to a guilty conscience, would grow up projecting that wish on every male. Often she
will shy away from accepting or demanding anything from her husband. This can leads her into a
depressed state under which she will shift the responsibility of helplessness onto the man. Under the
guise of being helpless, she thus dominates her man.
In the middle of Horney s paper she gets into the traits of male psychology. She gives many
examples of how men hold women in high esteem, but writes that they have a secret distrust of
women. One of Horney s best examples would have to be the story of Adam and Eve. The story
devalues women s ability to give birth, and makes them seem to be sexual temptresses. It is the
sexually attractive female that man is afraid of. Women are considered to be deeply rooted in their
emotions. This is often men s excuse for

Why Is Leonardo Da Vinci Considered An Honorable Man
In the dictionary honor is defined as high respect or esteem. I believe that honor is doing
something that helps other people even though it may not benefit them. Leonardo da Vinci was
a very honorable man. He was honorable because his work was truly ground breaking and
helped many people but he did not receive any prestigious awards because in his time they did
not have awards for scientific discoveries. He brought us out of the dark ages and gave us a head
start on where we are today. He was the first person to ever actually start asking questions instead
of just following the crowd ( Leonardo da Vinci| Renaissance Man | Scientist ). He, even for the
day and age he was living in. had ideas for tanks, helicopters, solar power and a calculator (
Leonardo da Vinci Biography ). He possessed a great number of abilities one of which being art
but, even more impressive he was an expert in anatomy, zoology, botany, geology, optics,
aerodynamics and hydrodynamics along with a few other categories this made him very capable

of human body parts. He drew pictures of, a fetus in utero, the heart and vascular system, sex

human bodies parts on human record. He also had many theories that caused the science
community to notice him. He had ideas for flying machines 400 years before the Write brothers

The Black Bear By Ursus Americanus
The black bear, ursus americanus, roams in different places in America including Texas. Its North
America the black bears habitat ranges from Mexico all the way to Canada. In the state of Texas,
the black bear is under threatened status, it also has the same status under the United States (Texas
Parks and Wildlife Department). According to the Texas Parks Wildlife Department (2016) in the
state of Texas they are usually found in the Western area in the Trans Pecos ecoregion. The Texas
Parks and Wildlife Department (2016) has reported that there have been recent sightings of the
Louisiana Black Bearin the Eastern part of Texas, where they used to have a strong population. This
comes as surprising since the Louisiana Black Bear has an endangered status in the United States, as
well as in the state of Texas. Even though the black bear species population in Texas is not as
strong as it used to be in the past, many efforts are being done to recolonize the black bear in the
South Western region of Texas by, studying their habitat as well as their eating habits, checking
the DNA of the bears already in the area to see their genetic structures, regulating protection
policies for black bears, and educating the people on the species. There are two subspecies of
black bears in the South Western area of the state of Texas, which are the Mexican Black Bear,
ursus americanus eremicus, and the New Mexican Black Bear, ursus americanus amblyceps, both
species have been seen in the area

The Energy Supply Of India Essay
Abstract The development of a nation is also measured on the parameters like the adequacy of
electrical energy. To make a nation as the developed nation, the energy supply should have a
reach to the extreme parts too. As India is an agricultural nation and so sorts of agricultural left
outs are accessible here. Along these lines, this immense measure of agricultural wastes can be
an input resource for power production in Indian villages. Rice husk is one of the potential
agricultural wastes which can be utilized as an input source to generate electricity, conditioned
that it will be handled and processed effectively. The reason for this paper is to bring the focus
on the alternative power generation methods in the rural part. The rice husk plants are generally
small and medium scaled efficient enough to supply or to meet the basic need of a village. In
this piece, the main focus is to show the available rice husk in India, the distinctive possibilities
and the procedure with which it can be utilized to generate power. Finally, a decrease in
competition in supply by the larger plant may lead to the decrease in the cost. But various issues
related to investment as the risk of failing of plant, monopoly on the supply side of husk from
various rice mills, institutional challenges related to the distributional area. 1. Introduction Even
with the increase in the demand for electricity globally, India s peak demand of electricity is
165253 MW and we have a surplus supply.

Anesthetic Machine Research Paper
A.An anesthetic machine is to deliver an exact amount of oxygen and anesthetic inhalant to patients
undergoing general anesthesia.
B.Gas delivery system and Anesthetic circuit
a.The gas delivery system is the first part of an anesthetic machine where the oxygen travels from
the start (the gas cylinder) to the fresh gas outlet.
i.The compressed air supply is oxygen and is in gas cylinders. The anesthetic vaporizer is where it
vaporizes the anesthetic inhalant; there is a precision vaporizer or a non precision vaporizer. The
flowmeter is what delivers the exact amount of the oxygen, and the oxygen flush valve delivers a
very high pressure of 100 % oxygen. The common gas outlet is when the carrier and anesthetic

Work place safety practices always involve knowing what kinds of kinds of hazards are in the
work place. Hazards include short and long term effects of waste anesthetic gas, the storage for
compressed gas cylinders, and precautions of exposure to injectable anesthetic agents. A couple
of hazards of waste inhalant anesthetic gas would be inhaling the gases from the vaporizer, a
spill of the anesthetic liquid or the gas escaping the anesthetic machine during the time they are
under anesthesia. For handling the compressed gases properly, the use and storage of the
cylinders are critical. The cylinders need to be chained to the wall, they are required to be in an
upright position, keep away from anything that is flammable, they need to be put away from
areas in the clinic that are busy, and empty and full cylinders should be kept apart. Accidental
exposure to the injectable agents is not a good thing and the precautions are important to know.

The Metabolism Movement
The Metabolism movement is known as a modern architecture movement, which emerged from
japan. The movement had its blooming start during the World Design Congress held at Tokyo in
1960, when a group of young architects and designers, who called themselves Metabolists,
presented their radical and visionary proposals of urban and architectural schemes. Among the
schemes that were presented were the Marine city and the Towershape city by Kiyonori Kikutake.
This presentation introduced the motabolist movement to the audience. The main members of the
movement were architects Kiyonori Kikutake, Masato Otaka, Fumihiko Maki, Noriaki Kurokawa,
the architectural critic Noboru Kawazoe. And Kenzo Tange who is recognized as the mentor of
these Metabolists. The architects involved envisioned the ideal city, and planned experimental
architecture and cities that are adaptable to change they developed flexible buildings, houses that
could expand or shrink according to demand, cities that were sustainable, with buildings made of
recyclable materials. All of this visions and views were arose as a response to reconstruct japan
after the human and environmental disaster that followed the atomic bombing of Japan during the
World War II.

Grizzly Man Documentary Analysis
Grizzly Man is a more than a documentary than a film. It recorded the real life of Timothy
Treadwell who lived among wild bears in Alaska without any acting. What touched me most is his
unselfish love to wild animals. Not only to bears but also to other animals. These animals became
the most important part in his life. He smiled because of bears. He cried because of bears. He spent
13 years to live with bears without any measures to protect himself. They are bears. That can kill
and tear him into pieces! He said to his friends if he dead someday, that is the way he wanted.
However, he still choose to love them, protect them and fight for them. He loved bears with his
life and he and his girlfriend died because of those bears in the end.

Blindness In Sophocles Oedipus The King
Oedipus Rex Essay
They say that there is no real definition of what it is to see something. We have all become
accustomed to seeing things that are right in front of us that we sometimes forget what we are
truly seeing. We tend to forget about the beauty behind certain things and we forget how lucky we
are to be able to see them. On the other hand, sometimes we try to close our eyes to the things we
hate. During a scary movie or horrific event, people may cover there eyes and choose to not see the
truth and what s really in front of them. Oedipus Rex wasn t able to see the truth, and yet Teiresias,
a blind man saw it plainly. Oedipus is known for his intelligence but chooses to be ignorant and
therefore blind to the truth about himself and his past. In Oedipus the King, Sophocles uses the
blindness motif effectively by making Oedipus blind throughout the story by his refusal to see that
the prophecy has come true, while Tiresias physical blindness allows him to see the truth. ... Show

Examples Of Competition In A Separate Peace
Above us in Latin flowed the inscription, Here Boys Come to be Made Men (Knowles, 165).
Competition motivates people throughout their lives. It gives them something to work for and
something to win for. Olympians compete, politicians compete, and even students compete. Gene
and Phineas, as do many others, face the theme of competition throughout their story and years at
the Devon School. In A Separate Peace, by John Knowles, competition is portrayed as a theme
using symbols, dramatic situations, and foreshadowing. The main symbols that portray competition
are the tree and the marble stairs. Everything seemed perfect in Gene and Finny s relationship with
each other; however Gene went above and beyond the limit by idolizing Finny. Competition arose
between the two boys. A little competition between friends isn t bad, but the element of
competition was much stronger in Gene s character. Eventually, this lead to Gene performing an
act of jealousy to even out the competition. This is where the symbol of the tree comes into place.

Why Summer Reading Is Important
Summer Reading Paper Lindsey Willingham Over the summer I read the book the crossover and
the book I am Number Four. I think students should be required to read over the summer for the
following reasons. First, most kids do not get engaged in educational activities over the summer,
which leads to learning loss, and readingover the summer can help that. Next, kids can learn a lot
from reading and can learn many new words, and gain knowledge. It also helps improve focus and
concentration. Reading is important all the time, but especially over the summer when you re not
focused on educational activities. When I first knew we had to do summer reading I thought it was
dumb and there was no point. Now that I think about it, there definitely was a point; I was not
involved in many educational activities over the summer except for summer reading. Research
shows that students typically score lower on standardized tests at the end of summer vacation than
they do on the same tests at the end of the school year. If students are not getting involved in
activities and learningover the summer they are going to experience learning loss, and it will be
much harder at the beginning of the year if were not putting our brains to work. I think summer

Lysistrat Greek Mythology Essay
Andrew Turner
Lysistrata Paper 1
Greek Mythology
September 8, 2016
Introduction
Lysistrata, written by Aristophanes, takes place during a time period when men dominate. This
play brings up the battle of the sexes in a humorous way. In the play Lysistrata brings women from
areas like Greece and Sparta that were involved in the Peloponnesian war to talk about her plan to
end the war. Lysistrata s plan was for all the women from the different lands to with hold sex with
their lovers until the men decide to sign a peace treaty. As the play goes on the men begin to desire
affection from their lovers and because the woman are withholding sex is sparks anger from the
men. But, throughout the play there is little to no physical contact. For the most part the arguments
that the men and women have are verbal yelling/ singing back and forth. For example, the men talk
about smoking the woman out, but the women have water with them to put out the fires if need be.
As the women continue to withhold sex, the war dwindles down and the men begin to give up. The
men eventually realize that, because of Lysistrata, they shouldn t be fighting anymore. They should
instead divide up the land and end the war.
Part 1 Throughout the play there are many mythological references, mostly to gods and goddess in a
form of worship. For example, Adonis, figure 1, in the play is shown being worshiped by the
women. Poor Young Adonis! (Lysistrata 321). The Adonis myth shows recurring ideas that

FIFA 18 Essay
Last year, FIFA 17 was the best selling game on the PS4 with over a whopping 10 million units
sold worldwide. Not only did it perform exceptionally well on the PlayStation, on all platforms, it
came second to Pokemon Sun/Moon on the 3DS. Unquestionably, EA s FIFA series is huge.
It s fair to say, certainly by now at least, EA Sportsknow that they re going to top the sales charts
each year. While it s possible this may cause complacency, EA never seem to rest on their laurels.
Although last year saw significant refinements from FIFA 16 to 17, there certainly isn t as many

Pleasingly, although not perfectly, FIFA 18 stays true to the style of play certain teams are
known for. Though one can argue that this was true of FIFA 17 and to a degree, previous
installments, the 2017/2018 season is still in its infancy and where Liverpool play a similar way
to last season, Man City s attacking style is slighly different with FIFA 18 mimicking it rather well.
The care for attention to detail is also true to that of individulal players. While it would be
impossible to uniquely program thousands of players individually, the bigger name, as well as
some lesser known players, all have their own style of play. Of course, Ronaldo and Messi play like
their real life counterparts but it s refreshing to see a player like Matt Ritchie behave in a similar
fashon to real life.
While tactical set ups and individual players are sound, as far as AI behaviour goes when
adapting during a match, I haven t noticed too many differences between FIFA s 17 and 18.
However, one noticible difference involves how teams react when falling a goal or two behind.
One gripe I ve always had of FIFA games is how the AI reacts to going a goal or two down early
on. Teams tend to go kamikaze and pile men forward prematurity leaving gaps in defence. This
behaviour is common at the latter stages of a real match but not so much early on. With FIFA 18,
teams do seem less partial to keep throwing men forward nonsensically when falling behind, now
only doing so when the

To begin with, around her father, Binaca acts like all the women in the Elizabethan era should
have. For example in act 1 scene 1, when Baptista asks Bianca to get in, she says, Sir to your
pleasure, humbly I subscribe (1.1.81). This claims that Bianca is a very obedient child since she
said, to your pleasure, respectfully I obey. The way she behaves is the complete opposite of
Katherina who does not listen and obey anyone. In spite of this, Bianca acted like that when her
father was around and he just told her, I will always love you nevertheless, showing great love
for her. Even if she wanted, she would not be able to act disrespectfully since when someone
says something like this, there in no way that person would not listen at that very moment,
especially if he is the person s father. On the contrary, when Bianca s father is not around, she is
less polite and behaves more like her sister. To clarify, when Hortensio and Lucentio, both
disguised as school masters, starts fighting about who is going to teach Bianca at that instant,
Bianca says, To strive for that which resteth in my choice./ I am no breeching scholar in the
schools./ I ll not be tied to hours nor pointed times/ But learn my lessons as I please myself.
(3.1.17 20). This proves that Bianca is really not that obedient and that she acts like a shrew
whenever she wants but just not around her father because she wants to make him proud. As
well, in the quote she says, as I please myself (3.1.20) which sounds exactly like Katherina when
she tells Petruchio that she will not leave until she pleases herself, No, nor tomorrow, not till I
please myself (3.2.182). When Katherina says that, people considered her a shrew because she
was disobedient to a boy and Bianca does the same thing when she does not let the boys order her
around. In short, given that Bianca s father treats her

Good Crop Painting Analysis
The painting Good Crop was done by Clarence Holbrook Carter in 1942. He used an oil based
medium on a canvas that was forty eight inches by twenty eight inches. This painting is from the
era of war and rationed goods. The idea for this painting originated from his neighbor Jim Jennings,
a farmer from down the road. He made the paintingfrom just one basket of potatoes. Most of
Carters painting were based off of memories from his childhood. While looking at Good Crop,
your eyes are drawn to the first bucket of potatoes sitting on a wagon. From there your eyes
bounce back and forth between six buckets of potatoes leading you to a red rag laid across the front
bucket. On this red rag sits a farmer wearing light brown pants and a black... Show more content on

If we look at the painting we will see that Carter used a variety of different shapes. He uses both
organic and geometric shapes. The organic shapes can be seen in the potatoes, bushes and
horses. We see the geometric shapes when we analyze the circular buckets that have rectangular
handles. The potatoes are unified together by the buckets, in which they are placed. From there
we will notice that the painting is asymmetrically balanced. Carter placed the farmer, the buckets
of potatoes, wagon and white horse on the left side. On the right is the dark brown horse and
meadow. To balance the painting out carter used an implied line, by having the farmer look off
to his right. This is an implied line because our eyes want to draw a connecting the drivers eyes
to the far right of the painting. This implied line adds weight to the right side. Using this implied
line we can also note that Carter used directional forces in this painting. Carter had the farmer
look off to his right, which pulls our eyes to the right. Therefore, creating directional forces. He
also uses one point linear perspective. As we look at the painting our eyes start at the bottom of the
painting, where the road starts, and our eyes are pulled up to a vanishing point on the

The Effect Of A Us Recovery
A2: Global Interdependency
A: Effects of a US Recovery
Introduction
In this paper, we analyse the effects of cheaper energy in the US that could spur the total
productivity growth in the country. We also intend to understand how the US central bank and the
government tend to behave regarding to the higher total factor productivity, and how the rest of the
world and the major economies are affected. We have used some diagrams of macroeconomics
theories to estimate the outcomes by running the software called RunGem.
Assumption
The main assumption that we made in our model is both the nominal wage in the labour market
and all the coefficients of Cobb Douglas production stay constant. In the first case of our model, we
assume the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the net foreign investment function is a function of investment minus the total domestic
saving, the net foreign investment decreases due to the increase in the total saving. As a result, the
NFI curve shifts to the left.
(b)The foreign exchange market
When the level of household income rises, people will tend to consume more foreign goods, and
thus the net import curve shifts upwards. The current account deficit contracts due to a reduced
amount of capital account surplus in the financial market. Since, as shown in the figure below, the
new equilibrium is higher than the initial equilibrium point, and this implies the real rate
depreciation in the economy.
(c)The money market
The money demand curve shifted upwards as a result of the higher output in the economy.
However, the interest rate decreased in response to the lower real rate of return, therefore the money
supply curve shifted to the right to reach the new equilibrium. Since, in this case, the central bank is
using the price level targeting; the money supply must increase as following the macroeconomics
theory. The expansion of money supply in the US is around 7.35% and this is comparatively higher
than in all other countries.
(d)The labour market
As we observed a drop in the unemployment rate of the US by 17.7%, the increase in the total
factor productivity increases the marginal product of labour for each

A mothers first priority is their children and when he or she becomes sick, she tries her best to cure
their child. In the story, the mother gives all she can to get her child back from Death, but in the
end she must let go of her child for its sake. One cannot explain the pain of losing their child, but
the pain a mother receives when she has a choice between giving her child away willingly or
having the child to live a miserable life with her is unexplainable. A woman who has been taking
care of her son for three days, rests only for a moment and in that single moment her child is
taken away from her by Death. The woman believes she can bring her child back from Death,
but by the end of the story, she prays for the child to be gone into the God s kingdom and away
from all the misery. Although the mother wants her child back to her, she values other mothers as
well and does not wish to harm their children. As the mother threatens to pick two flowers, Death
warns her that other woman will suffer as she is, and she quickly withdraws from flowers, despite
knowing Death may not listen to her commands of giving the child back. But in the midst of this,
the mother is hurt and miserable without her child, but she must give the child away for its
happiness. Hence, the theme of motherhood is demonstrated by the brave decisions by the mother

Education And Recidivism Essay
Though there is evidence that educational programs are needed to help in reducing crime,
politicians and policy makers have not really understood this finding and thereby support the
programs they assume are better suited at deterring criminals. Thus, they directed funding from
educational programs to other areas, such as in security and anger management or drug treatment
(Batiuk et al 2005). Furthermore, studies have shown that those inmates that are released from
prison, about two thirds of them end up being re incarcerated within three years of their release
(Klein et al 2004). As a result, when these policy makers ignore empirical research and findings
and set up own policies, they are setting up the offenders for failure and anyone else affected by the

However most of the research did in fact have controls for some of these risk factors indicated
above, thereby reducing structural inequalities that may be there in crime occurrence (Lori 2015). If
there is no control on these risk factors, it can be said that there is a correlation but no causation
between correctional education and recidivism, which is what most policymakers argue (Lori
2015). Public opinion also has a big impact on political will and what policies will be
implemented and how. Thus, empirical research is more or less useless as it is hard to influence
public opinion just by data (Latessa 2004). This can be seen historically, asin 1994, a law was
signed in US called the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act (VCCLEA) which was
the one of the main reasons of budget cuts of towards correctional education. VCCLEA allowed
funding from the education programs to be used in other departments (Brazell 2009) and thus
slowly correctional education programs were dying

Grass By Ernest Hemingway Analysis
In Ernest Hemingway s short story, Soldier s Home , and Carl Sandburg s poem, Grass both
emphasizes ideas about war and the aftermath of it. Although both works describe war they are
very different. Hemingway and Ernest use different techniques to convey its message to its readers
using such devices as repetition, point of view, and personification to appeal to its readers. Among
the many similarities between these two works, they are different in expressing its thoughts on war.
When many people think of war they fail to realize the aftermath and the impact it could have on a
person, many people easily forget these heroes that have served in the war and fought risking their
lives, similarly, both works share these thoughts, however, the authors use different techniques in
conveying their message. Soldier s Home is a short story, while Grass is a poem. In the story

The Effects Of Water On Natural Water Essay
Water is one of the most important resources that earth can offer. Indeed, water is essential to the
survival of all living things. Pure water must be colorless, tasteless and odorless. However,
sometimes, natural water can contain impurities. Indeed, dissolved solute coming minerals in rocks
and soils are often present in natural water.
The cations Mg2+and Ca2+ are the most common dissolved compounds found in natural water.
The presence of the dissolved Cations Ca2+ and Mg2+ (and other polyvalent cations) gives
natural waters chemical properties that are often evaluated as hardness.1 Water is hard when it
contains a high concentration of cations Ca2+ and Mg2+ and it is considered soft when it
contains a low concentration of cations Ca2+ and Mg2+. Water Hardness is often measured in
Concentrations in Molarity (M), parts per million (ppm/ mg per L) and grain per gallon (gpg).
The degree of hardness standard as established by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers
(S 339) and the Water Quality Association (WQA) is2:
Degree of Hardness
Grains per Gallon (gpg) ppm (or mg/L) Soft

It is very important to know and understand the hardness of water in order to limit the damages
hardness does and to improve the treatments for the problems of Hardness. Hard Watercan damage

A Bar Mitzvah or a Bat Mitzvah is when a boy or girl reaches the age of thirteen and they are now
obligated to observe the commandments and are welcomed into adulthood. These are both
celebrated through the gathering or family and friends in the form of a party. This celebration is
one of the rituals of the Jewish religion.
Mitzvot (plural of Mitzvah) are understood to come from God and intended for Jewish people to
observe and partake in. Some Jewish people that live on the Western side of the world believe
there is some contradiction with the thought of being commanded to act in something because it
takes away from their right to choose how to behave. In the Torah, it says that when God gave the
commandments he declared, Behold, I have set before you the blessing [of observing the
commandments] and the curse [the potential punishment of failing to observe the Mitzvot]
therefore, choose life! . The Jewish people interpreted this as God acknowledging that Jews have a
choice and he wants them to choose the right one. All Jewish people have different beliefs behind
the importance of a Mitzvah. Some believers attempted to prove that Mitzvot are all sensible,
logical actions that any person with ethical morals would welcome. Whereas others reject that
belief and believe that the six hundred and thirteen commandments improve them as human beings
and refines them into honest and impartial people by obeying God

EMDR Weaknesses
Weaknesses and Downsides to EMDR EMDR has weaknesses and debated for being controversial
due to it being difficult to support the signature aspect of the therapy, namely alternating eye
movements as actually necessary to the treatment (McLay et al., 2016, p. 702). Eye movements
and cognitive reprocessing which are deemed by EMDR as essential failed to make a unique
contribution to the outcome of therapy (Rubin, 2002, p. 14). According to the Prochaska Norcross,
The eye movements are only one form of bilateral stimulation and may not be required for the
therapeutic effect(2014, p. 211). Hand taps and repetition of auditory cues are other alternate
stimuli which can be used instead of eye movements. Early claims were made about EMDR
having almost magical results that only one session of EMDR could provide treatment for clients
(McLay et al., 2016, p. 702; Prochaska Norcross, 2014, p. 210). Furthermore, EMDR could be
viewed as a simple variant of exposure therapywith a gimmick in marketing the therapy as
something new (Rubin, 2002, p. 12). According to Perkins Rouanzoin (2002), EMDR is best
explained by learning processes that subsume exposure and cognitive behavioral treatments (p. 80).
EMDR has not been proven effective outside of PSTD. Prochaska Norcross explains that EMDR
has not been studied thoroughly with other behavioral disorder beyond PTSD and insufficient data
makes it difficult to determine its effectivenessin other domains (2014, p. 211).

However, he did promise that they would all come home, dead or alive. Leaders have to be

They re also different in that the empirical article had more findings with statistics then the popular

Moon Landing History
How can the Moon landings be compared to today? I believe that there are plenty of
comparisons to make between then and now. The Moon landings was an important time in
american history, it gave americans a goal to go to the moon by the end of the 60s, and leaps
were made in science and math, this can be seen again but this time with private space company,
SpaceX, who wants to go to mars by 2018 using its new technology to forge a path .
First let s start by saying: why did we go to the moon to begin with? The main reason we went to
the moon was because we were behind in the space race and we needed to do something that
would trump everything the USSR did. In this space race the USSR was beating us to everything,
they were the first ones to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Neil Armstrong, was the commander of the mission. Buzz Aldrin was the lunar module pilot. And
Michael collins was the command module pilot. It was Neil Armstrong s and Buzz Aldrin s job
to land on the moon on the lunar module, and Michael Collins who would stay in the command
module waiting for the other two to meet with him after the landings. Speaking of landing on
the moon, lets hear what the did to land on the moon. First they would be pulled by the moon
closer to its selfe, then after they could they would detach the lunar module from the command
module heading to the moon s surface while the command module would orbit the earth,
Michael would orbit the moon at about 2 hours per orbit, and would stay up there for about a
day s length, but back to the lander, they came in and landed on the south end of the mare
tranquillitatis, which is one of the moon s dark spots, they would take a few hours to get ready
to exit the module, and as we all know Neil Armstrong was the first human on the moon saying
his famous quote: One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind (Neil Armstrong 1969), but
actually what he meant to say was One small step for A man , and then a little after that Buzz
comes out of the module, they only have a couple of hours to set up tests, that would collect data

Dred Scott V. Sandford
When Dred Scott v. Sandford was decided in 1857, it made an enormous impact on the United
States. It riled up both pro and anti slavery Americans. It angered many Americans in an extreme
example of judicial activism. Some say it made the Civil War inevitable. By the time the dust
had settled and the 13th and 14th Amendments reversed the Court s decision, Dred Scott could
be considered one of the worst Supreme Court decisions of all time. And yet, although the case
was egregiously wrong, it still can be considered a great case . As Dred Scott exemplifies, a case
does not have to be good in order to be great . Some of the most important great cases are also
some of the most terrible cases. Our panel would thus prefer to call the cases that fit Mr. White s
definition significant cases rather than great cases , because great generally implies a value
judgment along with its judgment on significance, and in generalizing the idea of a significant
case , value judgments are typically not consistent. There are significant cases that are great, and
significant cases that are the opposite of great. Dred Scott is a significant case but not a great
one. With that clarification in mind, the Dred Scott decision does fit Mr. White s definition of a
significant case, at least in part. There are three main prongs of this definition, each of which
applies to the Dred Scott case: first, a significant case asks the court to resolve a deeply contested
issue; second, the court decides

The Leading Organizations Use Performance Measurement
The leading organizations use performance measurement with the aim of gaining insights to their
organizations and the efficiency of their people, programs and processes. The organizations do not
only collect and analyze data but they also use performance management to transform various
strategies into actions and to improve their operational processes (Northcott and Ma amora
Taulapapa 2012). Accordingly, performance management
is used to manage the organizations. The
Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is a prominent performance management system in the contemporary
world and it was developed by Dr. David Norton and Dr. Robert Kaplan at Harvard business
school. Compared to other systems of measuring performance, the BSC considers various... Show

More importantly, the BSC helps in motivating and educating the employees (Qin, Atkins and Yu
2013). This essay critically evaluates the use of the balanced scorecard (BSC) as a performance
measurement tool.
It is widely accepted that Norton and Kaplan of the Harvard Business School created the BSC.
However, there is a twist in the history of the BSC because some sources claim that Art
Schneiderman created the very first BSC in 1987 (Qin, Atkins and Yu 2013). In 1990, Art
Schneiderman took part in research that was spearheaded by Dr. Robert S. Kaplan and that is
when he described his findings of the BSC. Subsequently, Dr. Norton and Dr. Kaplan included
Art s details in the article about the Balanced Scorecard in 1992. Despite the fact that there were
many articles that were published in 1992, the article published by Dr. Norton and Dr. Kaplan
was very successful and this led to the publication of another article on the BSC in 1993
(Kristensen, Andersen and Torp 2013). The balanced scorecard was described in the articles and
the journals that were written by the two doctors. Later on, Norton and Kaplan conducted a study
on the BSC and the study involved 12 companies. Accordingly, the BSC became Norton and
Kaplan s BSC and that is why they are recognized as the original creators of the BSC. The
American Accounting Association awarded the BSC the prize of the best theoretical contribution in
1997 . After the award, the BSC rose

Brokeback Mountain
Brokeback Mountain, both as a short story (Proulx, 1999), and film (Lee, 2005) explores the notion
that the use of various settings to develop issues and themes allow the audience to gain a grater
understanding of the characters. Just like the nature that controls the ranch and mountain lifestyle,
the force of desire that comes so naturally guides every significant action Ennis and Jack experience
in Brokeback Mountain, even when they know the specific actions are against their better judgment
and against acceptable social dictums. From Proulx s strongly descriptive language, to (2005) s use
of various landscape shots, the audience is able to relate issues and themes to the characters. The

Throughout both the film and the short story, significant settings help tell the audience about
Jack and Ennis relationship. Proulx allows her characters to range far and wide, but there s
always an intense combination of beauty and loneliness wherever they go. Brokeback Mountain
itself is always defined by the great flowery Meadows and the coursing, endless wind (9), while
the lavender sky emptied of colour and the chill air drained down (23), but still when Jack and
Ennis first arrived, they where detached from the beauty and dwelling in their own loneliness.
Just like Brokeback Mountain, Ennis and Jacks love for one another is raw and beautiful, but
also lonely, just like the isolation experienced initially on the mountain. This is a place without a
lot of people, and even seems fairly indifferent to the presence of people. Brokeback Mountain
was never revisited by the characters, although it was always spoken about and planned to be
revisited, suggesting that in the end, it was a place of escape, a safe place that will always
remained, in Jack and Ennis mind untouched and remains beautiful holding special memories. The
use of Proulx s descriptive language of settings and Lee s (2005) panoramic landscape shots, allows
the audience to gasp at the beauty of locations that the characters have visited, allowing the
audience to connect to the location and events that are

My Love Of Education
Many people are on their own route towards what they consider receiving or claiming an
education. Whether it be a formal or informal education, we all approach obstacles that keep us
away from a direction we may have our mind or even our heart set on. In this essay, I will describe
my experiences in which my education has brought me close to losing my temper and self
confidence.
I used to groom the knots of her black and white coat that would pile up on her belly. But, one
day, I remember coming across a ball like lump under her skin. I moved it around to see if it
bothered her, but she just lay there with her belly up, waiting for me to finish. The next morning,
my dad and I took her to the vet and found out they were benign tumors, but should be removed
before they could turn into something more serious. My family struggled to find the funds to
remove the lumps. My love for animals, and particularly for my dog, Lyn Yang, quickly turned
into dreams of being able to remove the lumps myself. But at that point, I was helpless. I thought,
maybe one day, I d be a veterinarian and able to rid animals of their problems.
That was the beginning of the dream.
Growing up, I mostly stuck by my parents and they didn t stimulate my interest in animals. Even
with all the time we spent at the vet, I never thought to speak to a veterinarian. What did I know
about job shadowing? I now realize the importance of having real life role models, and someone to
speak to about my goals and aspirations. It s like Sonia Sotomayor said, When a young person,
even a gifted one, grows up without proximate living examples of what she may aspire to become,
her goal remains abstract.
In those days, in my environment, my dream to become a veterinarian gradually diminished. So
much diminished during my teenage years. I found my mind shrinking. I could feel my dream
getting smaller and smaller. Instead of choosing a profession that could drive me, I let me
community drive me instead and it got the best of me.
Life is different when you don t have a dream. I spent a lot of time in the streets. I had this small
minded definition of success, particularly when everyone around me was making fast money. The
slow developing value of an education

David Lewis s New Work For A Theory Of Universals
One consequence of viewing ontology and identity as relative is that properties and universals
hardly seem much more problematic. Although universals obviously do not exist on a
fundamental level, I think both David Lewis and David Armstrong provide helpful suggestions
on the scope of universals in practical discourse. While David Lewis s essay New Work for a
Theory of Universals (1983) is quite extensive in its scope and insight, I only wish to draw
attention to his reasoning about the scope of universals. Lewis makes a more radical distinction
between property and universal than most philosophers. Lewis defines the word property very
broadly: an object has a property by virtue of being a member of a set, so there are as many
properties as there are sets. Given that Lewis is a realist about both set theory and possible worlds,
he must recognize a vast and exotic array of properties. There is a property of fuzzy redness and
non square largeness as much as there is a property of redness, both being sets. Obviously not
everything that is designated a property can claim the status of universal. Only those properties that
can be wholly present in multiple locations are candidates for being universals. Among these, those
given by empirical science (natural properties) make the final cut and are crowned as universals. In
Universals as Attributes, Armstrong grants that universals exist but denies that they can exist as
uninstantiated abstractions. Rather, he

Microsoft. Microsoft is a company that keeps improving their inventions and keeps growing.
Microsoft also has the fourth largest website per media Metrix powered by internal and external

The Immigration Issue And Refugee Crisis
The first immigrants to the United States were European Quakers that came over on The
Mayflower with a quest for freedom from the restraints of Great Britain and the Catholic Church.
They were seeking freedom from oppression and the opportunity to build a better life. These
people by definition are immigrants or refugees. We are all essentially foreigners in the United
States, but some of us claim this land as our own more so than others and feel that people are
intruding upon our Americanized country. This phenomenon has turned into a full fledged political
debate that has been coined as a RefugeeCrisis or ImmigrationIssue . This is not just in the United
States. Many European countries are dealing with the same issues and their refugees are seeking
asylum from the torturous acts of ISIS. The history of immigration, the difference between
immigrants and refugees, how immigration and refugees can be viewed as a social issue, and
specific refugee and immigration conflicts and resolutions are all important factors of deciding how
The Immigration Issue and Refugee Crisis are categorized as a social issue. Immigration in the
United States dates back to Georgetown, Virginia and the Mayflower in the 1600s. The French and
Spanish attempted to colonize before this, but unsuccessfully. The English founded the first
successful and permanent settlement in Georgetown, VA in 1607. More colonies started showing
up in the years following. Most immigrants had a common goal

Invictus , is a powerful movie representing what Nelson Mandela taking the office as the first
black president of South Africa and set to accomplish great things. Nelson Mandela was the
founder and lead of the African National Congress and spent 27 years in prison on charges for
sabotage against the white military and government to end apartheid. The movie starts with his
release from prison on February 11, 1990 greeted by the black population eager to fight while the
white population was expecting the worse from it. The environment factors changed dramatically
for Nelson and he found himself ready to forgive those that imprisoned him and call them comrades.

Mandela shows support and consideration to the chief s feelings and takes the time to explain why
he made the decision. Reconciliation starts here... Forgiveness starts here, too. Forgiveness
liberates the soul. It removes fear. This is why it s such a powerful weapon. Please Jason, try. The
president appeals at the very inner soul of the security chief.
To help people reaching to the same goal Mandela saw a rare opportunity in the rugby team. He
knew that blacks spent years to hate the game and the Springbok, the rugby team, since for them it
represented the white supremacy and their boycott hurt them. Mandela himself admits doing just
the same while in prison on the Robben Island. This time he thinks about using Springbok to unite
people and that the team needs to become winners. With one year until World Rugby Cup 1995 to
be played in South Africa, and him just taking office, Mandela doesn t lose time and invites
Francois Pienaar, the Springbok captain, for tea in his office to indirectly letting him know about
what achievement is expecting of him: to win the World Rugby Cup in 1995 that would be hosted
by South Africa. You have a difficult job. Captain of the Springbok...We need to exceed our
expectations. said Mandela. This accomplishment was very challenging since the rugby team s
performance was low but president set up his expectations very high requiring the team to perform
accordingly.

Comparing Phaedo and Ecclesiastes
Separated by language, history and several hundred miles of the Mediterranean Sea, two of the
world s greatest cultures simultaneously matured and advanced in the centuries before the birth of
Christianity. In the Aegean north, Hellenic Greeks blossomed around their crown jewel of Athens,
while the eastern Holy City of Jerusalem witnessed the continued development of Hebrewtradition.
Though they shared adjacent portions of the globe and of chronology, these two civilizations grew
up around wholly different ideologies. The monotheistic devotion of Judaism that evolved in the
Hebrew landsstood in stark contrast to the Greek worship of polytheistic Olympians, a religion that
often tended more towards the rational and philosophic than... Show more content on

The notion that all things in the world take part in some perfect and incorruptible form, a focus of
the Phaedo, is an idea attributed by modern scholars not to Socrates but to Plato himself.
Ecclesiastes shows a similar removal, for though it clearly speaks the words of Solomon (who
predates the book by half a millenium), its actual author is unknown and is usually said to be the
prophet Koheleth, son of David. Both works thus impersonate the philosophies of an esteemed
ancient personage, but both clearly are impregnated by the thoughts of their authors.
An examination of contextual similarities reveals that both texts clearly laud the value of
wisdom. Koheleth says to have set [his] mind to study and to probe with wisdom all that
happens under the sun (1:13) in much the same way that Socrates dedicates himself to a life of
thought. Though Koheleth warns, as wisdom grows, vexation grows (1:18), he decides after
exploring the alternatives that vexation is better than revelry (7:5) and that wisdom is more of
a stronghold to a wise man than ten magnates that a city might contain (7:19). Socrates offers a
similar explanation: there is no way to escape form evil or salvation for it except by becoming as
good and wise as possible (107c d). Clearly these two men, aged and at a pinnacle of wisdom from
which they can view their prior follies,

The Federal Definition Of Foster Care
Donella H. Meadows defines a system as a set of elements or parts that is coherently organized
and interconnected in a pattern or structure that produces a characteristic set of behaviors
(Meadows, 2014, p. 188). The federal definition of foster care is a 24 hour substitute care for
children placed away from their parents or guardians and for whom the State agency has placement
and care responsibility (Johnson, 2004). Therapeutic foster careis a subsystem of the suprasystem
which is foster care. The Quality Foster Care Services Act defines therapeutic foster care as foster
care which is highly effective in placing children with serious medical, psychological, emotional,
and social needs into a home in which foster parents are specially trained to address the needs and
challenges of the children (U.S. Senators Baldwin and Portman Lead Effort to Improve Foster Care
Services for America s Most Vulnerable Youth, 2014).
Goals, elements, and concepts
Goal of the system
Many systems are goal oriented. They interact with the environment in order to achieve a
specific goal or target. The primary goal of placing a child in the TFC agency with medically
fragile children is to meet the medical and mental health needs present (Youth, 2014). Additionally,
a sense of permanency is the end goal for all children in the suprasystem of foster care. This would
come by way of returning the child back to their original home with their parents or guardians or
having the child adopted by

Essay on Karen Horney s The Distrust Between the Sexes Karen Horney s The Distrust Between the Sexes In Karen Horney s The Distrust Between the Sexes, she attempts to explain the problems in the relationships between men and women. She writes that to understand the problem you must first understand that problems stem from a common background. A large amount of suspiciousness is due to people s intensity of emotions. Early in Horney s essay, she defines passion and discusses why it is rare. People do not feel safe putting all of their faith and trust in only one other person. Horney explains that self preservation is part of human instinct, and people have a fear of losing themselves in their loved one. Next, Horney explains how people often overlook their own impulses. They may also have to submit to taking second place to a family member. The child is helpless in all of this and the child s only way to vent fury and anger is in the form of extravagant fantasies. These fantasies are often brutal, criminal, and destructive in nature. The child s inability to understand these destructive forces makes them equally fearful of adults. Horney goes on to explain the later childhood side of relationship fears. A little girl who represses her wish, due to a guilty conscience, would grow up projecting that wish on every male. Often she will shy away from accepting or demanding anything from her husband. This can leads her into a depressed state under which she will shift the responsibility of helplessness onto the man. Under the guise of being helpless, she thus dominates her man. In the middle of Horney s paper she gets into the traits of male psychology. She gives many examples of how men hold women in high esteem, but writes that they have a secret distrust of women. One of Horney s best examples would have to be the story of Adam and Eve. The story devalues women s ability to give birth, and makes them seem to be sexual temptresses. It is the sexually attractive female that man is afraid of. Women are considered to be deeply rooted in their emotions. This is often men s excuse for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main members of the movement were architects Kiyonori Kikutake, Masato Otaka, Fumihiko Maki, Noriaki Kurokawa, the architectural critic Noboru Kawazoe. • 12. Blindness In Sophocles Oedipus The King Oedipus Rex Essay They say that there is no real definition of what it is to see something. We have all become accustomed to seeing things that are right in front of us that we sometimes forget what we are truly seeing. We tend to forget about the beauty behind certain things and we forget how lucky we are to be able to see them. On the other hand, sometimes we try to close our eyes to the things we hate. During a scary movie or horrific event, people may cover there eyes and choose to not see the truth and what s really in front of them. Oedipus Rex wasn t able to see the truth, and yet Teiresias, a blind man saw it plainly. Oedipus is known for his intelligence but chooses to be ignorant and therefore blind to the truth about himself and his past. In A Separate Peace, by John Knowles, competition is portrayed as a theme using symbols, dramatic situations, and foreshadowing. The main symbols that portray competition are the tree and the marble stairs. Everything seemed perfect in Gene and Finny s relationship with each other; however Gene went above and beyond the limit by idolizing Finny. Competition arose between the two boys. A little competition between friends isn t bad, but the element of competition was much stronger in Gene s character. I think students should be required to read over the summer for the following reasons. First, most kids do not get engaged in educational activities over the summer, which leads to learning loss, and readingover the summer can help that. Next, kids can learn a lot from reading and can learn many new words, and gain knowledge. It also helps improve focus and concentration. Reading is important all the time, but especially over the summer when you re not focused on educational activities. When I first knew we had to do summer reading I thought it was dumb and there was no point. Now that I think about it, there definitely was a point; I was not involved in many educational activities over the summer except for summer reading. Research shows that students typically score lower on standardized tests at the end of summer vacation than they do on the same tests at the end of the school year. • 17. Lysistrat Greek Mythology Essay Andrew Turner Lysistrata Paper 1 Greek Mythology September 8, 2016 Introduction Lysistrata, written by Aristophanes, takes place during a time period when men dominate. This play brings up the battle of the sexes in a humorous way. In the play Lysistrata brings women from areas like Greece and Sparta that were involved in the Peloponnesian war to talk about her plan to end the war. Lysistrata s plan was for all the women from the different lands to with hold sex with their lovers until the men decide to sign a peace treaty. As the play goes on the men begin to desire affection from their lovers and because the woman are withholding sex is sparks anger from the men. But, throughout the play there is little to no physical contact. For the most part the arguments that the men and women have are verbal yelling/ singing back and forth. For example, the men talk about smoking the woman out, but the women have water with them to put out the fires if need be. As the women continue to withhold sex, the war dwindles down and the men begin to give up. The men eventually realize that, because of Lysistrata, they shouldn t be fighting anymore. They should instead divide up the land and end the war. Part 1 Throughout the play there are many mythological references, mostly to gods and goddess in a form of worship. For example, Adonis, figure 1, in the play is shown being worshiped by the women. Poor Young Adonis! (Lysistrata 321). The Adonis myth shows recurring ideas that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Though one can argue that this was true of FIFA 17 and to a degree, previous installments, the 2017/2018 season is still in its infancy and where Liverpool play a similar way to last season, Man City s attacking style is slighly different with FIFA 18 mimicking it rather well. The care for attention to detail is also true to that of individulal players. While it would be impossible to uniquely program thousands of players individually, the bigger name, as well as some lesser known players, all have their own style of play. However, one noticible difference involves how teams react when falling a goal or two behind. One gripe I ve always had of FIFA games is how the AI reacts to going a goal or two down early on. Teams tend to go kamikaze and pile men forward prematurity leaving gaps in defence. This behaviour is common at the latter stages of a real match but not so much early on. To begin with, around her father, Binaca acts like all the women in the Elizabethan era should have. This claims that Bianca is a very obedient child since she said, to your pleasure, respectfully I obey. The way she behaves is the complete opposite of Katherina who does not listen and obey anyone. In spite of this, Bianca acted like that when her father was around and he just told her, I will always love you nevertheless, showing great love for her. Even if she wanted, she would not be able to act disrespectfully since when someone says something like this, there in no way that person would not listen at that very moment, especially if he is the person s father. On the contrary, when Bianca s father is not around, she is less polite and behaves more like her sister. To clarify, when Hortensio and Lucentio, both disguised as school masters, starts fighting about who is going to teach Bianca at that instant, Bianca says, To strive for that which resteth in my choice./ I am no breeching scholar in the schools./ I ll not be tied to hours nor pointed times/ But learn my lessons as I please myself. As well, in the quote she says, as I please myself (3.1.20) which sounds exactly like Katherina when she tells Petruchio that she will not leave until she pleases herself, No, nor tomorrow, not till I please myself (3.2.182). This painting is from the era of war and rationed goods. The idea for this painting originated from his neighbor Jim Jennings, a farmer from down the road. He made the paintingfrom just one basket of potatoes. Most of Carters painting were based off of memories from his childhood. While looking at Good Crop, your eyes are drawn to the first bucket of potatoes sitting on a wagon. He uses both organic and geometric shapes. The organic shapes can be seen in the potatoes, bushes and horses. We see the geometric shapes when we analyze the circular buckets that have rectangular handles. The potatoes are unified together by the buckets, in which they are placed. From there we will notice that the painting is asymmetrically balanced. Carter placed the farmer, the buckets of potatoes, wagon and white horse on the left side. On the right is the dark brown horse and meadow. To balance the painting out carter used an implied line, by having the farmer look off to his right. This is an implied line because our eyes want to draw a connecting the drivers eyes to the far right of the painting. This implied line adds weight to the right side. Using this implied line we can also note that Carter used directional forces in this painting. Carter had the farmer look off to his right, which pulls our eyes to the right. • 29. The Effects Of Water On Natural Water Essay Water is one of the most important resources that earth can offer. Indeed, water is essential to the survival of all living things. Pure water must be colorless, tasteless and odorless. However, sometimes, natural water can contain impurities. Indeed, dissolved solute coming minerals in rocks and soils are often present in natural water. The cations Mg2+and Ca2+ are the most common dissolved compounds found in natural water. The presence of the dissolved Cations Ca2+ and Mg2+ (and other polyvalent cations) gives natural waters chemical properties that are often evaluated as hardness.1 Water is hard when it contains a high concentration of cations Ca2+ and Mg2+ and it is considered soft when it contains a low concentration of cations Ca2+ and Mg2+. Water Hardness is often measured in Concentrations in Molarity (M), parts per million (ppm/ mg per L) and grain per gallon (gpg). The degree of hardness standard as established by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (S 339) and the Water Quality Association (WQA) is2: Degree of Hardness Grains per Gallon (gpg) ppm (or mg/L) Soft 10.5 180 It is very important to know and understand the hardness of water in order to limit the damages hardness does and to improve the treatments for the problems of Hardness. A Bar Mitzvah or a Bat Mitzvah is when a boy or girl reaches the age of thirteen and they are now obligated to observe the commandments and are welcomed into adulthood. These are both celebrated through the gathering or family and friends in the form of a party. This celebration is one of the rituals of the Jewish religion. Mitzvot (plural of Mitzvah) are understood to come from God and intended for Jewish people to observe and partake in. Some Jewish people that live on the Western side of the world believe there is some contradiction with the thought of being commanded to act in something because it takes away from their right to choose how to behave. In the Torah, it says that when God gave the commandments he declared, Behold, I have set before you the blessing [of observing the commandments] and the curse [the potential punishment of failing to observe the Mitzvot] therefore, choose life! . The Jewish people interpreted this as God acknowledging that Jews have a choice and he wants them to choose the right one. All Jewish people have different beliefs behind the importance of a Mitzvah. Some believers attempted to prove that Mitzvot are all sensible, logical actions that any person with ethical morals would welcome. EMDR Weaknesses Weaknesses and Downsides to EMDR EMDR has weaknesses and debated for being controversial due to it being difficult to support the signature aspect of the therapy, namely alternating eye movements as actually necessary to the treatment (McLay et al., 2016, p. 702). Eye movements and cognitive reprocessing which are deemed by EMDR as essential failed to make a unique contribution to the outcome of therapy (Rubin, 2002, p. 14). According to the Prochaska Norcross, The eye movements are only one form of bilateral stimulation and may not be required for the therapeutic effect(2014, p. 211). Hand taps and repetition of auditory cues are other alternate stimuli which can be used instead of eye movements. Early claims were made about EMDR having almost magical results that only one session of EMDR could provide treatment for clients (McLay et al., 2016, p. 702; Prochaska Norcross, 2014, p. 210). Furthermore, EMDR could be viewed as a simple variant of exposure therapywith a gimmick in marketing the therapy as something new (Rubin, 2002, p. 12). According to Perkins Rouanzoin (2002), EMDR is best explained by learning processes that subsume exposure and cognitive behavioral treatments (p. 80). EMDR has not been proven effective outside of PSTD. Prochaska Norcross explains that EMDR has not been studied thoroughly with other behavioral disorder beyond PTSD and insufficient data makes it difficult to determine its effectivenessin other domains (2014, p. 211). ... It angered many Americans in an extreme example of judicial activism. Some say it made the Civil War inevitable. By the time the dust had settled and the 13th and 14th Amendments reversed the Court s decision, Dred Scott could be considered one of the worst Supreme Court decisions of all time. And yet, although the case was egregiously wrong, it still can be considered a great case . As Dred Scott exemplifies, a case does not have to be good in order to be great . Some of the most important great cases are also some of the most terrible cases. Our panel would thus prefer to call the cases that fit Mr. White s definition significant cases rather than great cases , because great generally implies a value judgment along with its judgment on significance, and in generalizing the idea of a significant case , value judgments are typically not consistent. There are significant cases that are great, and significant cases that are the opposite of great. Dred Scott is a significant case but not a great one. With that clarification in mind, the Dred Scott decision does fit Mr. White s definition of a significant case, at least in part. In 1990, Art Schneiderman took part in research that was spearheaded by Dr. Robert S. Kaplan and that is when he described his findings of the BSC. Whether it be a formal or informal education, we all approach obstacles that keep us away from a direction we may have our mind or even our heart set on. In this essay, I will describe my experiences in which my education has brought me close to losing my temper and self confidence. I used to groom the knots of her black and white coat that would pile up on her belly. But, one day, I remember coming across a ball like lump under her skin. I moved it around to see if it bothered her, but she just lay there with her belly up, waiting for me to finish. The next morning, my dad and I took her to the vet and found out they were benign tumors, but should be removed before they could turn into something more serious. My family struggled to find the funds to remove the lumps. My love for animals, and particularly for my dog, Lyn Yang, quickly turned into dreams of being able to remove the lumps myself. But at that point, I was helpless. I thought, maybe one day, I d be a veterinarian and able to rid animals of their problems. That was the beginning of the dream. Growing up, I mostly stuck by my parents and they didn t stimulate my interest in animals. Even with all the time we spent at the vet, I never thought to speak to a veterinarian. What did I know about job shadowing? I now realize the importance of having real life role models, and someone to speak to about my goals and aspirations. It s like Sonia Sotomayor said, When a young person, even a gifted one, grows up without proximate living examples of what she may aspire to become, her goal remains abstract. In those days, in my environment, my dream to become a veterinarian gradually diminished. So much diminished during my teenage years. I found my mind shrinking. I could feel my dream getting smaller and smaller. Instead of choosing a profession that could drive me, I let me community drive me instead and it got the best of me. • 44. David Lewis s New Work For A Theory Of Universals One consequence of viewing ontology and identity as relative is that properties and universals hardly seem much more problematic. Although universals obviously do not exist on a fundamental level, I think both David Lewis and David Armstrong provide helpful suggestions on the scope of universals in practical discourse. While David Lewis s essay New Work for a Theory of Universals (1983) is quite extensive in its scope and insight, I only wish to draw attention to his reasoning about the scope of universals. Lewis makes a more radical distinction between property and universal than most philosophers. Lewis defines the word property very broadly: an object has a property by virtue of being a member of a set, so there are as many properties as there are sets. Given that Lewis is a realist about both set theory and possible worlds, he must recognize a vast and exotic array of properties. There is a property of fuzzy redness and non square largeness as much as there is a property of redness, both being sets. Obviously not everything that is designated a property can claim the status of universal. Only those properties that can be wholly present in multiple locations are candidates for being universals. Among these, those given by empirical science (natural properties) make the final cut and are crowned as universals. In Universals as Attributes, Armstrong grants that universals exist but denies that they can exist as uninstantiated abstractions. Rather, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. The Immigration Issue And Refugee Crisis The first immigrants to the United States were European Quakers that came over on The Mayflower with a quest for freedom from the restraints of Great Britain and the Catholic Church. They were seeking freedom from oppression and the opportunity to build a better life. These people by definition are immigrants or refugees. We are all essentially foreigners in the United States, but some of us claim this land as our own more so than others and feel that people are intruding upon our Americanized country. This phenomenon has turned into a full fledged political debate that has been coined as a RefugeeCrisis or ImmigrationIssue . This is not just in the United States. Many European countries are dealing with the same issues and their refugees are seeking asylum from the torturous acts of ISIS. The history of immigration, the difference between immigrants and refugees, how immigration and refugees can be viewed as a social issue, and specific refugee and immigration conflicts and resolutions are all important factors of deciding how The Immigration Issue and Refugee Crisis are categorized as a social issue. Immigration in the United States dates back to Georgetown, Virginia and the Mayflower in the 1600s. The French and Spanish attempted to colonize before this, but unsuccessfully. The English founded the first successful and permanent settlement in Georgetown, VA in 1607. More colonies started showing up in the years following. Most immigrants had a common goal ... Forgiveness starts here, too. Forgiveness liberates the soul. It removes fear. This is why it s such a powerful weapon. Please Jason, try. The president appeals at the very inner soul of the security chief. To help people reaching to the same goal Mandela saw a rare opportunity in the rugby team. He knew that blacks spent years to hate the game and the Springbok, the rugby team, since for them it represented the white supremacy and their boycott hurt them. Mandela himself admits doing just the same while in prison on the Robben Island. This time he thinks about using Springbok to unite people and that the team needs to become winners. With one year until World Rugby Cup 1995 to be played in South Africa, and him just taking office, Mandela doesn t lose time and invites Francois Pienaar, the Springbok captain, for tea in his office to indirectly letting him know about what achievement is expecting of him: to win the World Rugby Cup in 1995 that would be hosted by South Africa. You have a difficult job. Captain of the Springbok...We need to exceed our expectations. said Mandela. This accomplishment was very challenging since the rugby team s performance was low but president set up his expectations very high requiring the team to perform accordingly. One important moment ... • 49. Comparing Phaedo and Ecclesiastes Separated by language, history and several hundred miles of the Mediterranean Sea, two of the world s greatest cultures simultaneously matured and advanced in the centuries before the birth of Christianity. In the Aegean north, Hellenic Greeks blossomed around their crown jewel of Athens, while the eastern Holy City of Jerusalem witnessed the continued development of Hebrewtradition. Though they shared adjacent portions of the globe and of chronology, these two civilizations grew up around wholly different ideologies. The monotheistic devotion of Judaism that evolved in the Hebrew landsstood in stark contrast to the Greek worship of polytheistic Olympians, a religion that often tended more towards the rational and philosophic than... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The notion that all things in the world take part in some perfect and incorruptible form, a focus of the Phaedo, is an idea attributed by modern scholars not to Socrates but to Plato himself. Ecclesiastes shows a similar removal, for though it clearly speaks the words of Solomon (who predates the book by half a millenium), its actual author is unknown and is usually said to be the prophet Koheleth, son of David. Both works thus impersonate the philosophies of an esteemed ancient personage, but both clearly are impregnated by the thoughts of their authors. An examination of contextual similarities reveals that both texts clearly laud the value of wisdom. Koheleth says to have set [his] mind to study and to probe with wisdom all that happens under the sun (1:13) in much the same way that Socrates dedicates himself to a life of thought. Though Koheleth warns, as wisdom grows, vexation grows (1:18), he decides after exploring the alternatives that vexation is better than revelry (7:5) and that wisdom is more of a stronghold to a wise man than ten magnates that a city might contain (7:19). Socrates offers a similar explanation: there is no way to escape form evil or salvation for it except by becoming as good and wise as possible (107c d). Clearly these two men, aged and at a pinnacle of wisdom from which they can view their prior follies, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Meadows defines a system as a set of elements or parts that is coherently organized and interconnected in a pattern or structure that produces a characteristic set of behaviors (Meadows, 2014, p. 188). The federal definition of foster care is a 24 hour substitute care for children placed away from their parents or guardians and for whom the State agency has placement and care responsibility (Johnson, 2004). Therapeutic foster careis a subsystem of the suprasystem which is foster care. The Quality Foster Care Services Act defines therapeutic foster care as foster care which is highly effective in placing children with serious medical, psychological, emotional, and social needs into a home in which foster parents are specially trained to address the needs and challenges of the children (U.S. Senators Baldwin and Portman Lead Effort to Improve Foster Care Services for America s Most Vulnerable Youth, 2014). Additionally, a sense of permanency is the end goal for all children in the suprasystem of foster care. This would come by way of returning the child back to their original home with their parents or guardians or having the child adopted by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
