Comparing and Contrasting Plato s The Republic and Thomas...
Thomas More and Plato create their ideal Utopia. A utopia is described as a perfect world.
Thomas Moore and Plato have different mentalities when it comes to the selection of an individual
s occupation. Thomas Moore focuses on a Utopia were the work force is strictly determined by the
society s needs while Plato believes that each individual should perform the task that best fits with
his or her natural ability.
Thomas Mores Utopia has more of a community sense. People are forced to believe that the
purpose for working is for the good of the public. No matter what a persons status or rank is, they
must learn the basics of Agriculture during their childhood. As mentioned by Thomas More, Every
year of this family come back to town after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
13). Thought this is the case, if there is a greater necessity for agricultural products they are
obligated to return to work.
In Plato s Republic a person duty is determined by their natural ability. Unlike Thomas Mores
Utopia, Socrates believes that a person should focus on achieving the most for themselves rather
than the community being primary purpose. Plato s Republic greatly supports the idea of
inequality, and shows that social stratification is essential for the movement of the economy. For
a country to function, there must be some sort of hierarchy and inequality. In page 118 of the
republic Socrates states that he leaves it to each class to achieve the kind of happiness that
nature confers it (pg. 18). Citizens in each class must work hard to prosper in theirs own class.
People in the Republic must have the mentality of working hard for themselves. What they don t
realize is the domino effect that is triggered. As they work more, the classes above them are also
greatly impacted because they are able to benefit. Social Stratification is valued in Socrates to a
certain extend. Socrates mentions the importance of each member in each class to be apart of
neither wealth nor poverty. In Plato s republic, the importance of not being rich and not being poor
is greatly expressed. Socrates gives Adeimantus the example of the craftsman.

Importance of the Fool in King Lear
William Shakespeare s genius came from how closely he intertwined the two seemingly mutually
exclusive realms to appeal to all socio economic groups in his audience. The character of the Fool
provides the closest intercourse of the two realms between King Lear s royalty and Poor Tom s
poverty, while still maintaining their separation. The Fool s role in King Learwas to counteract the
King s follies in order to bring him to his senses. With his honesty, wit, and clever wordplay that
interweave foreshadowing and practical advice, the Fool entertains not only the King, but the
audience as well, and brings some light and humour into this tragedy. All the characters in King
Lear, apart from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the same scene the Fool also mentions, thou madest thy daughters thy mother, meaning that
Lear has made his daughters his parents (line 168 169). One should perceive that in this first Act
the Fool appears and speaks of reality to the King who was blinded by flatteries of his evil
daughters. He tacitly insinuates through his actions and statements that Lear is among the
company of fools, which provides the hint of foreshadowing the audience needs to know that
Lear is losing his wits. However, where was the Fool when the King made his decision to divide
the kingdom? Obviously the King did not think it was important for the Fool to be employed in
political or family matters. Important matters as such were none of his business. Thus, the Fool did
not have any influence over King s decision and therefore, over the major plot of the play.
In the following scene the Fool tries to convince Lear of his mistake again and informs him that
Regan will, ...taste as like this as a crab does to a crab, meaning that Regan and Goneril are of
the same nature and that there is no need for him to go to her after Goneril has rejected his
knights (Act1, Scene 5, line 18). However, this does not stop the King from going to meet with his
other daughter. The Fool again had no influence over King s actions and he follows

A Conversation With My Father By Grace Paley
A conversation With my Father is a story written by Grace Paley. this short story is about a
discussion between the narrator and her sick, eighty six year old father. Throughout this whole
entire story, there is evidence given to the reader that this short story is about story telling. The
reader can tell that this is a story about storytelling because in the conversation between the narrator
and her father, they are constantly talking about how a story should be written.

This request that the father makes shows the reader the first evidence of storytelling in this short
story. The narrator does not like the simple style of writing that he suggested because she thinks
that it takes all hope away. She also believes that Everyone, real or invented, deserves the open
destiny of life ( Paley 231). Even though the narrator does not like writing in that style, she still
agrees to do it to please her father. She starts to think of a way that she can start her story and a
plot that would follow it. Moments later, the narrator thinks of a story that has been happening for
a couple of years right across the street from her. This story includes a woman and her son, a drug
addict. In this story, she describes how the woman became a junkie in order to maintain a close
relationship with her son. The narrator ended the short story by saying that the son eventually gave
everything up and left the city making the mother feel hopeless and alone. This is not what her
father was expecting, he says You misunderstood me on purpose... You left everything out (Paley
233). The father then asks the narrator a bunch of questions in order to include more important
details about the characters in her story. The

Computer Management System And Its Impact On Business...
1.2 According to David Ingram (2015) CMS refers to systems and processes to collect data from
different sources in order to present information in a more understandable layout. Beynon Davies
(2015,p.2) argues Computer management system it s extremely significant for business activities
overall, because for businesses data it s the most powerful factor as information its critical to create
competiveness among private sector, as through systems information organisations are always
aware of anything related to sales, orders, stock control and records , and this information it s what
it contributes for businesses realisation overall due to the ability that each systems has on gathering
up to date data. CMS minimizes overload data, because the system has the ability to modify the
larger amount of information data by summarizing everything in order to avoid managers to get
confused and get flooded with exhaustive details (Management hub,2016). CMS function at some
point its mainly to focus on helping organisations functions such forecasting ,payroll or costing to
develop more efficiently, as CMS role is to make sure that only correct information its collected
from different sources and then processed and delivered to the right departments , because MIS
function is to fulfil managers necessities at all levels (Role of the management information

Compensation Systems Compensation systems can take on many forms, all of which have
positives and negatives related to it. However, certain components are noted to be determinants of
solid compensation plans. One agreement of a solid compensation system is the use of incentives.
Clearly a successful companies set objectives that will provide incentives to increase profitability
(Needles amp; Powers, 2011). Incentive bonuses should be measures that the company finds
important to long term growth. According to Needles amp; Powers (2011) the most successful
companies long term focused on profitability measures. For large for profit firms, compensation
programs should offer stock options. The interweaving between the market value of a company s
stock and company s performance both motivate and increase compensation to employees As the
market value of the stock goes up, the difference between the option price and the market price
grows, which increases the amount of compensation (Needles amp; Powers, 2011). Conclusively,
a compensation plan should serve all stakeholders, be simple, group employees properly, reflect
company culture and values, and be flexible (Davis amp; Hardy, 1999; The Basics of a
Compensation Program).
Four compensation models are laid out by the Bangor Family Physician case study. These models
include: (1) revenue model; (2) net income model; (3) base salary plus

Why Lacrosse Should Be A Professional Sport
Everyone loves the popular professional sports like baseball and football, so why should people not
be able to see what lacrosse players can do? Young kids in the world can be encouraged like other

who want to play lacrosseall of their life will have a chance at getting into the professional s and
they can see how good they have become. Clearly, lacrosse should become a professional sport.
Young kids will be encouraged like other kids in other sports to play lacrosse. The reason most
kids are wanting to play popular sports is because they can see people and be encouraged by
them. People who are young lacrosse players want to go to a game but they never know where to
find one because people don t know where they are played. Lacrosse should be a professional sport
because it is dominating with popularity and the population is increasing fast. Many quotes are
stated to build up the encouragement like Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a

driveway has vehicles parked on both sides and starts almost immediately when you pull in. The

batteries were taken that were sitting on the side of the house. They were in a green cart that
was moved down to the end of the driveway to the west. Total loss of $200 USD for loose
batteries. It was also found that two semi truck trailers had been broken into, both had the locks

Theme Of Companionship In Frankenstein
It is an innate characteristic of the human psyche to search for belonging, whether with another
individual or perhaps a community of people. Once this sense of companionship has been
achieved, one tends to conform one s self in order to adhere to the goals and standards that said
person or persons follow. This will eventually create a lasting impact on the individual for better or
for worse. In Mary Shelley s Gothic novel Frankenstein, the creature comes into the world with a
pure heart and mind, almost exactly like that of a newborn infant. As he experiences his
environment and accumulates knowledge of it, he starts to abandon his primal instincts to pursue a
dark venture towards validation from mankind and eventually revenge towards them.It is an innate

Masculine Portrayals In The Roaring Girl And Tamburlaine
Toxic Masculine Portrayals in The Roaring Girl and Tamburlaine The portrayals of men in
Renaissance literature and plays is wrought with various aspects of toxic masculinity. Masculinity
in works such as Tamburlaine the Great or The Roaring Girl is shown in different ways and with
varying degrees of spectacle. Tamburlaine displays his masculinitythrough hyper violent acts and
high degrees of spectacle, whereas characters such as Laxton and Dapper flaunt their masculinity
in different, less violently spectacular means, however, they still participate in embodying the
toxic masculine ideal. Understanding masculinity and how it is defined at the time is important to
grasping why the portrayals of it in various works involve the aspects that they do. Masculinity as
it exists now is a fluid concept, yet in the past leading up the Renaissance it was treated as a rigid
set of rules that menmust uphold to be perceived as masculine and in turn make headway in a
patriarchal society. Ideas about masculinity and femininity are beginning to be questioned more
during the Renaissance in interesting ways, especially when these ideas are presented in the world
of the theatre. Men in this time period are expected to be the backbone of their households and
held up as a womans closet tie to God, right below their clergymen. These expectations come with
backlash. With the expectation of men to be the protectors and providers of their households and

Roman Architecture
University of the People Greek and Roman Civilization Assignment, Unit 7 Roman architecture,
even more than the rest of Roman art, reflected the practical character, restless energy and
organizational mindset of its creators. As the Roman Empire expanded to engulf not only the
Mediterranean region but also large areas of Western Europe. The Arch Arch The arch consists
of two supports, called piers, each topped by a platform called an impost. Angled blocks of brick
or stone, called voussoirs . These are placed on the imposts in an arched, curved pattern that is
capped by the central block of the arch called the keystone. A row of arches is called an arcade.
Arches allowed the Romans to create wider, taller, and lighter structures. They also learned that
they if they built arches entirely inside the walls of their buildings that this would make the walls

Importance Of Puritans
Strict Puritan beliefs have been around since the late 16th century. Puritans believe in
predestination, which is the belief that God already has a plan for the people living on earth.
Puritans believe in intolerance towards others which includes religious beliefs that differ from their

important to a Puritan than God and getting into heaven. Puritans valued education because people

Religious wars are still present today, which proves that worldwide people have a difficult time
accepting new religious beliefs. ISIS members are Muslim extremists who do not accept other
people s religious viewpoints, similar to the Puritans, muslim extremists believe there is only one
right way to worship God and that is the Muslim way. Members of ISIS are starting a holy war
because they are trying to carry out deeds in the name of God because they believe that is what
God wants. Intolerance towards others is exhibited in today s society through the failed attempt of
the First Amendment, and through the occurrence of a holy war. Unification of state and church
has decreased significantly over the last couple centuries but is still around in today s society
through laws, failed attempts at trying to keep the church out of school, and through US currency.
As much as people do not want to admit that laws come from the Bible, no one knows who decided
that killing people is wrong. The Ten Commandmentsare ten standards that Christians believe God

the commandments. Each species follow their own customs, for example, female praying mantises

by providing another means for people to receive products, their purchasing habits may change.
Other businesses and websites such as eBay, could possibly benefit from the freecycling
business. Many Americans are actually in full support of going green , but not everyone does it;
presumably because they either don t think about it or because there aren t enough businesses
supporting it. This is especially true when it comes to making purchases. As previously stated,
consumers are accustomed to having to spend money to receive items in return. So, the concept of
giving things away and receiving things for free do not necessarily resonate easily, without
reminders. Furthermore, consumers may not realize just how wasteful they really are and how
they could actually help save the society by giving things away, instead of throwing them in the
trash. In 2010, AOL News provided an article called, Many Americans Believe in Going Green;
Fewer Actually Do It . The article discusses how a survey was conducted at Yale University and
George Mason University, showing that Americans feel it s important to conserve energy and help
the environment, but they just aren t doing it. This demonstrates not only the lack of action of those

The Pueblo Revolt
Native Americans are the first inhabitants of North America by centuries; however, many believe
that American history started when Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492 and
discovered a new world . Although the English, French, and Spanish arrived around the same time,
they all interacted with the Natives in different ways to achieve what they were seeking, such as
land, riches, etc. However, once the European pursuit of riches and land became brutal and
malicious, the Natives attempted several revolts, such as the Pueblo Revolt or King Phillip s War,
that unfortunately, has some dire consequences, such as death and slavery. Although English were

Annotated Bibliography Of The Films Of Federico Fellini
Annotated Bibliography: How do French, Italian, Japanese, and Indian arthouse auteurist films
affect the development of New Hollywood auteur films. Bondanella, P. (2002). The Films of
Federico Fellini. Cambridge, UK: Cambridge University Press. The Films of Federico Fellini
examines the career and work of Italy s most revered filmmakers. By analyzing the masterpieces
of Fellini, the book attempts to categorize the influence of his work, and explain some of his
interests in fantasy, the irrational, and individualism. Bondanella essentially rejects more
common ways of analyzing Fellini s work and favors trying to explore the development of his
unique and personal cinematic style. Bondanella highlights some of the major accomplishments
in the life of the renowned Italian filmmaker. One of the most striking features of Bondanella
work is his ability to tell the story of Fellini by using the works of the filmmaker. In particular,
Bondanella is able to draw on a new archive of manuscripts, obtained from Fellini and his
scriptwriters. This level of in depth analysis allows researchers to get a detailed view of Fellini s
work that has inspired generations of not only Italian filmmakers, but also in the rest of the world.
The author suggests that Fellini s use of realism in film allows the audience to connect on a whole...

the sole author of a film, and that it should reflect the emotions and beliefs of the director.
According to auteurism, we should see the vision of the director in the film, and thus he claims

Benefits of the Jewish Chicken Soup
Food is only one aspect of cultural tradition, but it is probably one of the most prevalent. Because
of the significance of food in our lives, many ethnic and religious groups incorporate it into special
occasions. Funerals, weddings, birthdays, festivals, fairs, political holidays and religious
celebrations would all loose a bit of their sparkle without the pleasure of food. Various foods are
given symbolic and even transformative connotations. This is a universal truth in most cultures.
A very popular food with cultural significance is chicken soup. It is prepared very differently in
different cultures. From Mexico s chili spiked sopa de Fideos, to China s gingery QiguoJi,
cultures have a love affair with chicken in a pot. In Bulgaria, chicken soup is often seasoned
with lemon juice or vinegar. The Taiwan style of chicken soup includes dried jujube fruits, tea,
and other various herbs. The Columbian version of is called ajiaco and includes sweet corn,
several types of potatoes, avocado, capers, an herb called guascas, and a dollop of cream. Polish
chicken soup is commonly served with fine noodles and sometimes a ground almond broth called
ros贸艂. In the United States and Canada, chicken soup often has noodles or rice. The
Campbell Soup Company coined the phrase chicken noodle soup in the 1930s and it has endured to
this day.
While no single culture can claim chicken soup as exclusively its own, chicken soup is a traditional
dish of the Jewish kitchen. No Shabbat,

Frederick Taylor Research Paper
Frederick Taylor was the founder of Scientific management also known as Taylorism. He was the
first who settled a reasonable approach, a coherent manner in which the factories should be
organised. The best way for a worker to do their jobs according to Taylor was to provide proper
tools and training, and to provide motivation for good performance. He introduced the concept of
scientific management that influenced the management thought process in a considerable way.
Taylor found out that by the use of scientific procedures and methods, the proficiency of workers
can be increased and economy can gain substantial growth. The principles of scientific management
introduced by Taylor were applied widely across the industries to increase the productivity of the
organizations.Various researchers suggest that Taylor s efforts unlocked the new prospects of
management. Taylor created a mental revolution between the workers by outlining crystal

Mary Whiton Calkins
Mary Whiton Calkins, is best known for two things: becoming the first woman president of The
American Psychological Association and being denied her doctorate from Harvard. However,
these two aspects only make up a small portion of what she accomplished in her life. Her entire
life was dedicated to her work, especially the development of her Psychology of selves. She
founded an early psychology laboratory and invented the paired associate technique. She
passionately dove into the new field of Psychology but also was highly active in the field of
Philosophy. She was not deterred by being a woman and used her struggles to gain a voice to

However, she faced two problems meeting this condition. The first, being that there were few
psychology departments in 1890. Secondly, getting admitted to these places that did offer the
program was highly unlikely since she was a woman. Her first consideration was to study abroad.
An instructor at Smith told her that her best chance was to try obtaining private instruction in
psychology and philosophy at any of the German universities outside of Zurich (6).
However, another instructor told her that would be a good idea if ladies had been allowed the same
privileges as men (6). Calkins formally dismissed going to Germany when she received a letter from
a woman student attending the University of Gottingen which stated, I wish I might encourage
you; but past experience has proved to me the utter uselessness of trying to enlighten the authorities,
at least, in our generation.
Once Calkins started looking at the United States, she discovered that the University of
Michigan, where she would be studying under John Dewey, and Yale, where she would be

student that dissuaded her. The letter stated, Personally, I should be immensely glad if you would

Expanding The Cap On Funding For Charter Schools
Massachusetts has always taken pride in their superior academic standing in comparison to the rest
of the nation, showing why there was an upheaval in the system when people began to argue over
on how to vote on question two in the election. Question Two focused on expanding the cap on
funding for Charter Schools in Massachusetts. This issue was particularly controversial in
Massachusetts because not all people are able to recognize the value that CharterSchools hold in
expanding the educational opportunities in Massachusetts. Charter schools have proven to have a
large impact on educational in urban areas, however charter schools are also extremely beneficial in
the suburban communities of Massachusetts. According to Matt Rocheleau from the Boston Globe,
Massachusetts ranks in the top tier nationally when it comes to median household income, but
within itself there is a vast range in earnings. This vast range in income affects many suburban areas
in Massachusetts as some communities are at the maximum end of the spectrum, as other suburbs
float barley at the middle. Often times, people pin Massachusetts suburbs as white, middle to upper
class families with outstanding public schools. However, the gap in average incomes also affects
the educational choices for children in these suburban communities, as all of the families in the
community are not making the same amount of money. Many of these suburban communities pride
themselves in making sure that their children have an

Theme Of Power In Montana 1948
Montana 1948 The greater the power, the more dangerous the abuse Edmund Burke. Montana
1948, written by Larry Watson, is about the troublesome journey the Hayden family had during
the late 1940 s. The plot from the text expresses the idea of power. By comprehending the idea,
the reader was able to learn how much of an impact a powerful person can have on a powerless
person, too much power can lead to disaster to their loved ones and even to themselves and no
matter how much power a person has, someday, that person will lose the power they one once
had. In this essay the idea of power is expressed by how much of an impact a powerful person can
have on a powerless person. In Montana 1948, an argument occurred between two characters. One

so he could overpower Wesley and get his message across to Wesley. Moreover, this also shows
that Wesley is confident in himself when he is up against his father. He s not oppressed by his

Esperanza faced (in my opinion) was her Mama getting sick with Valley Fever. At this time, (this

and make them sick, if bad enough, death could occur. On page 157, the doctor said to
Esperanza, There might be some medicines she can take, but even then, if she survives, it might
take six months for her to get her full strength back. Esperanza felt the blood drain down her face.
She could only say the doctors uncertain words in a whisper, If she survives... . In this quote it

Impact Of Student Motivation And Student Engagement
Impact on Student Motivation and Student Engagement According to Legault and Green Demers
(2006), one of the most salient academic problems beleaguering today s students is a lack of
motivation toward learning. While education is compulsory, and educators work diligently to create
and implement academically appropriate lessons, students, year after year, lack the desire and
motivationto participate in academic tasks required to prepare them for the 21st century world. The
lack of student motivation can lead to frustration and discontentment and can impede academic
productivity (Legault et al., 2006).

Doubting his abilities to invest time and effort to a task, a student s motivation is hampered
(Pelletier, Dion, Tucson, and Green Demers, 1999). Values Placed on the Task are essential to

life relevancy or personal values, student apathy will increase leading to calamitous ramifications
that inevitability result in scanty motivational drive (Ford et al., 2013). Characteristic of Task is

Student Motivation Engaging students so they perform at high levels and have top notch academic
self conceptualization requires students to act of freewill deriving pleasure from their academic
efforts (Ford et al., 2013). Educational pedagogies should not include entertaining students, but
rather as a means of engaging them. Because of the advent of technology and its continued
transformation, students require new study habits and strategies (Wen Li, Yi Chun, Jau Bi, Chia
Wen, 2017) that peak their interests and galvanize them to seek knowledge through intrinsic
motivation. While intrinsically motivated students exhibit the apex of self determination,
conversely, students motivated by extrinsic rewards can also perform well. High school students

Role Of Prostitution In Ancient Rome
Prostitution is the practice of selling one s body or sexual favors in return for money. This is often
regarded as the oldest profession of the world with evidence dating back to Ancient Babylon and
Sumer. With each succeeding major civilization, prostitution became more developed, refined, and
subjected to regulation; Ancient Romebeing no exception. Prostitutionis often an undiscussed
section of society when discussing past cultures. It is that very reason I chose to write on this
subject as practiced in Rome. In Ancient Rome, a society of morality and pride, it is ironic that
what is typically seen as a degrading practice, was practiced, widely tolerated, and regulated by the
state. Prostitution, while not an integral part of Roman society, helps offer insight into not only the
Roman economy, but also entertainment and private life. Through research and explanation I
intend to elaborate on the organization of prostitution, legal recognition given to prostitutes, what
Roman brothels were like, sex slaveryin a Roman context, and the connection between prostitution
and religion.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

women who worked for a lena or independently because of this desperation are stipulated by
McGinn to have been considered women of higher repute, than those who were born into sex

Urban Space Essay
Introduction
Cities, being the nodes of opportunities and growth, are urbanizing the world at a faster pace than
ever. The cities have to respond to this uneven change with immediate priority. The fundamental
criteria that differentiates a city from a village is its population density. Urban density can play a
key role in the improvement of socio cultural as well as environmental aspects.
The compactness of an urban space is now considered to be a strategy for smart urban growth by
urbanists and policy makers. A compact citywould concentrate the population to a lesser footprint,
thereby localizing and increasing the density. That would, in turn, create lesser impact on the
environment.
One of the main elements that shape up an urban space is the main mode of transportation that the
people in that space use. The transportation systems have a major impact on the formation of an
urban environment. The times when walking was considered as a major mode of transportation, the
city size was much smaller, the reach one could walk. When man invented faster mobility, the reach
extended. The fascination of speed kept the man going and inventing newer modes which stretched
the city size to new horizons .
Urban Densification and Transportation
For centuries, probably everyone who has thought about cities at all has noticed that there seems to
be some connection between the concentration of people and the specialities they can support
(Jacobs, Jane). Urban density is now

Cesar Chavez Quotes
Cesar Chavez There s no turning back... We will win. We are winning because ours is a
revolution of mind and heart... This quote is said by Cesar Chavez, he is expressing that if you
put your heart and mind into something you think is important without turning back, you will
then achieve it. Cesar Chavez had a great impact on the world because he was not selfish. He
dedicated his life to helping farm workers. Cesar was a labor leader, and he made a major impact
on the National Farm Workers Association. Cesar Chavez was known as a hard worker, a very
generous person, and fought for equality. To start off, when Cesar was young, he worked on his
family s farm gathering eggs, bringing clean water to his house and, he also took care of the
livestock... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cesar believed in non violent acts as much more effective than violent ones. Cesar Chavez
believed in equality but not in violence. He thought leading marches would be a successful way
to get what he wanted. His first boycott was against the Delano grape growers. According to
Ricky Tejada Flores Hundreds of students, religious workers and labor activists talked to
consumers in front of markets, asking them to do a simple thing: Help the farm workers by not
buying grapes. At its height, over 13 million Americans supported the Delano grape boycott. On
September 8, 1965, Filipino American grape workers walked out on a strike protesting for years
of poor pay and conditions of work. These Filipino American grape growers asked Cesar Chavez
to join them on the strike. Cesar led a 300 mile walk from Delano to Sacramento. The strike
turned into a boycott and lasted over two years and a half. At this point some strikers were getting
impatient. Some were even thinking about retaliating with violence to prove their manliness. But,
Cesar rejected that idea and decided to fast. He lasted twenty five days without eating anything
only drinking water. The fasting worked, all talk of violence stopped and everyone was rededicated
to nonviolent striking and boycotting. By 1970, the grape boycott was a complete success. Grape
growers finally signed their first union contracts, granting workers better pay, benefits, and

Research Paper On Nightcrawler
As of 2015, my favorite movie was Nightcrawler. The reason why this movie appeals to me so
much is because of how the film portrays the power of ones will to achieve a goal and ultimately,
reach success. Furthermore, veryaspect of the film unveils its core theme. The movie is quite dark
and gritty with a subtle feel of thrill. Not only does the movie evoke thrill at times, but also
anticipation and a sullen sense of cruel, but cool adventure.
The main character Louis Bloom drives home when he encounters an accident. He watches as two
men film the accident yet are not helping.Nevertheless, Louis becomes intensely focused and
submerged into his field of career after he sells his first film of a graphically gory shot of a victim

Essay Mapping The Violence in Colombia
Mapping The Violence in Colombia
The peace researcher Johan Galtung proposes a typology of violence, constructed as direct and
indirect, formal informal and visible invisible. Regarding it as a triangle, Galtung (1990) states that
typology of violence corresponds roughly to the ABC levels of the conflict triangle: Attitude,
Behaviour and Contradictions. In the first level Direct violence (acts of violence as such) and in
second and third level underneath the surface; Structural violence and Cultural violence. See figure
below.
The Structural Violence concept by Galtung (1969) asserts that the structure and culture in societies
are a central facet on the explanation of violence; thus, human beings are being influenced so that ...

Therefore, to define violence is a highly intricate process that has taken many decades for social
researchers. Violence is understood differently in the cities than the countryside, in the north and
south, and in places directly affected by conflict (see appendix 1). In general terms, the
characteristics that intersect the general violent map in the whole country can be summed up in
four types; structural, institutional, cultural and interpersonal. Violence and survival are another
two elements to analyse, as citizens have created mechanisms of co existence with violence by
fitting the rules of paramilitary, guerrilla, drug cartels besides the government structural norms.
Therefore, these power agents in the country condition the behaviour of the population living in the
middle of the war.
By applying Galtung s cultural structural violence theories to Colombia, it can be analysed that
references to cultural structural violence in this country can be found from popular culture to
politics. Depicting its reality, TV, soap operas, cinema, journalism, news and literature illustrate
violence as a part of their life where many rough stories are told and some are still happening. The
vox populi says that everyone in Colombia has been exposed to a violent incident either that has
happened to them or somebody close. Inside Colombia, its people see themselves as a disorganised
state with diverse confrontations. In addition, popular culture references

The Nature of Evil in Humanity in the Book, Heart of...
In Joseph Conrad s novel Heart of Darkness, the cultural collisions illustrates the struggles Marlow
experiences as he questions the nature of evil in humanity. Marlow compares his experience in
Africa as the Romans did nineteen hundred years ago, they both were shocked when they got there.
When Romans came long ago they did not expect to see anyone, and when Marlow came he
expected something different. He thoughtthat the natives were happy to have civilization and
wanted to integrate into their society. But he was wrong, they were being treated as criminals and
were not even respected. He knew that something else was going on there. The men that were there
were just lusty, red eyed devils looking for their fortune. They did not... Show more content on

This is similar to the brickmaker s situation. He says that since he has no straw he cannot make
bricks. He is showing his lazy characteristics when he does this. Conrad uses of biblical allusions
helps his argument of man s inhumanity to man by showing us the evil that is in the root of
civilization. Humanity is tainted with sin and evil and Conrad is highlighting the fact that some
humans will always be evil. At the end of his journey he realized the reason that everyone who
went on this expedition was trying to make their fortune and that is how Kurtz eventually died.
His appetite for more ivory had got the better of him. No matter what the cost to himself and the
people around him, he was going to be the best and get the most money. His selfishness
eventually caused his death when the manager downstream would not send food because he
hoarded all of the ivory all to himself. Marlow knew that Kurtz was very serious about his job
when he saw heads on the stakes in front of his house. Which could have been a warning to other
people who try to come get his ivory. But the interesting part was most of the heads are faced
toward his house. Kurtz wanted attention and loved to have power. These heads could be there to
adore him just like the natives when he was with them. Kurtz search for power and wealth left in its
wake death and destruction, showing that humanities quest for wealth leads to destruction.

Life Of Pi Animals
Being stranded in the middle of the Pacific with only the company of a full grown Bengal tiger
will take its toll on a person. In the book Life of Pi animals are a place of comfort and familiarity
to Pi, the son of a zookeeper, who spends his whole life surrounded by them. While stranded in
the middle of the ocean, he believes various animals from his family s zoo are with him on the
lifeboat, and the question of if that is true is to be interpreted by the reader. The animal story is not
the truth, but it is Pi s own bearable fiction, it presents the story in a way the reader can respond to
and begs the question of which story they believe and which story they want to believe. His
story of the animals is a different interpretation of reality, by turning his story into fiction, it
becomes much easier to stomach the idea of what happened. While in the aftershock of the boat
sinking, Pi asks, what of my extended family birds, beasts, and reptiles? They too have drowned.
Every single thing I value in life has been destroyed (Martel 98). This is the reality, no matter
which story the reader chooses to believe, Pi lost everything he loves in his life when the boat
sank. Fiction is his coping mechanism, turning his story into fiction distracts from the fact that he
lost everything. Pi watches the death of Orange Juice in horror, Dumb with pain and horror, I
watched as Orange Juice thumped the hyena ineffectually and pulled at its hair while her throat was
being squeezed by its

The Things I Want To Accomplish
In the world today there are so many people who want many different things. Although they know
what they want, over half of them never do anything about it. Some may argue that they don t
have time to do want they want to accomplish, but people always need to make time for the
things that we d like to have. Many of us have set goals that we ve wanted since we were young.
As we grow older they may change, but many of us don t realize that to get the things we wantto
accomplish, we have to always work towards getting them. Some say that we don t needto worry so
much about accomplishing our goals, but if we ever want to accomplish whatever it may be, we
need to constantly work towards doing things. People that are always working towards getting...

Maybe they could be in public and simply help someone out who needs it. Who knows, you
could have helped someone else accomplish a goal of theirs. If we are constantly doing things we
can always be accomplishing some goal that we may have had from whatever time it may have
been. In a person s life there are plenty of things that we all hope to accomplish. If we are
constantly working on even the littlest things, it can be very rewarding. Accomplishing a goal
can make you feel great about yourself. It can put you in a positive mood, which can make you
want to keep working to accomplish so many things you ve always been hoping to do. It will
influence you to do many more great things in your life. This may help others do great things in
their lives as well. Someday, people will start to realize that working even the littlest bit can help
you accomplish so many things you want. Your actions may even help others realize that they
can do the things they ve always doubted. Even if we get all the things we ve always wanted to
accomplish, maybe we can start a new list of things that we want in life. It is very wonderful how
much everyone can accomplish if they are actively trying to do

  • 2. Comparing and Contrasting Plato s The Republic and Thomas... Thomas More and Plato create their ideal Utopia. A utopia is described as a perfect world. Thomas Moore and Plato have different mentalities when it comes to the selection of an individual s occupation. Thomas Moore focuses on a Utopia were the work force is strictly determined by the society s needs while Plato believes that each individual should perform the task that best fits with his or her natural ability. Thomas Mores Utopia has more of a community sense. People are forced to believe that the purpose for working is for the good of the public. No matter what a persons status or rank is, they must learn the basics of Agriculture during their childhood. As mentioned by Thomas More, Every year of this family come back to town after ... In Plato s Republic a person duty is determined by their natural ability. Unlike Thomas Mores Utopia, Socrates believes that a person should focus on achieving the most for themselves rather than the community being primary purpose. Plato s Republic greatly supports the idea of inequality, and shows that social stratification is essential for the movement of the economy. For a country to function, there must be some sort of hierarchy and inequality. In page 118 of the republic Socrates states that he leaves it to each class to achieve the kind of happiness that nature confers it (pg. 18). Citizens in each class must work hard to prosper in theirs own class. People in the Republic must have the mentality of working hard for themselves. What they don t realize is the domino effect that is triggered. As they work more, the classes above them are also greatly impacted because they are able to benefit. Social Stratification is valued in Socrates to a certain extend. Socrates mentions the importance of each member in each class to be apart of neither wealth nor poverty. In Plato s republic, the importance of not being rich and not being poor is greatly expressed. Socrates gives Adeimantus the example of the craftsman. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay foolear Importance of the Fool in Shakespeare s... Importance of the Fool in King Lear William Shakespeare s genius came from how closely he intertwined the two seemingly mutually exclusive realms to appeal to all socio economic groups in his audience. The character of the Fool provides the closest intercourse of the two realms between King Lear s royalty and Poor Tom s poverty, while still maintaining their separation. The Fool s role in King Learwas to counteract the King s follies in order to bring him to his senses. With his honesty, wit, and clever wordplay that interweave foreshadowing and practical advice, the Fool entertains not only the King, but the audience as well, and brings some light and humour into this tragedy. In the same scene the Fool also mentions, thou madest thy daughters thy mother, meaning that Lear has made his daughters his parents (line 168 169). One should perceive that in this first Act the Fool appears and speaks of reality to the King who was blinded by flatteries of his evil daughters. He tacitly insinuates through his actions and statements that Lear is among the company of fools, which provides the hint of foreshadowing the audience needs to know that Lear is losing his wits. However, where was the Fool when the King made his decision to divide the kingdom? Obviously the King did not think it was important for the Fool to be employed in political or family matters. Important matters as such were none of his business. Thus, the Fool did not have any influence over King s decision and therefore, over the major plot of the play. In the following scene the Fool tries to convince Lear of his mistake again and informs him that Regan will, ...taste as like this as a crab does to a crab, meaning that Regan and Goneril are of the same nature and that there is no need for him to go to her after Goneril has rejected his knights (Act1, Scene 5, line 18). Masculine Portrayals In The Roaring Girl And Tamburlaine Toxic Masculine Portrayals in The Roaring Girl and Tamburlaine The portrayals of men in Renaissance literature and plays is wrought with various aspects of toxic masculinity. Masculinity in works such as Tamburlaine the Great or The Roaring Girl is shown in different ways and with varying degrees of spectacle. Tamburlaine displays his masculinitythrough hyper violent acts and high degrees of spectacle, whereas characters such as Laxton and Dapper flaunt their masculinity in different, less violently spectacular means, however, they still participate in embodying the toxic masculine ideal. Understanding masculinity and how it is defined at the time is important to grasping why the portrayals of it in various works involve the aspects that they do. Masculinity as it exists now is a fluid concept, yet in the past leading up the Renaissance it was treated as a rigid set of rules that menmust uphold to be perceived as masculine and in turn make headway in a patriarchal society. Ideas about masculinity and femininity are beginning to be questioned more during the Renaissance in interesting ways, especially when these ideas are presented in the world of the theatre. • 21. Devry Consumer Behavior Week 7 Case Study: Giving and Receiving on Freecycle.org Freecycle.org or as nicknamed by users, Freebay is a great way for individuals to give away items that they no longer want. It is very apparent that this website has achieved such high levels of success and growth in such a short period of time, due to the fact that they are different from all other sites. Everyone has become accustomed to a world where nothing is free. Human beings are used to to having to pay for anything they receive. Most people are even leery of the fact of receiving something for free. The common question behind something being given away for free is what s the catch? The same is true for websites. Many Americans are actually in full support of going green , but not everyone does it; presumably because they either don t think about it or because there aren t enough businesses supporting it. This is especially true when it comes to making purchases. As previously stated, consumers are accustomed to having to spend money to receive items in return. So, the concept of giving things away and receiving things for free do not necessarily resonate easily, without reminders. Furthermore, consumers may not realize just how wasteful they really are and how they could actually help save the society by giving things away, instead of throwing them in the trash. In 2010, AOL News provided an article called, Many Americans Believe in Going Green; Fewer Actually Do It . This is often regarded as the oldest profession of the world with evidence dating back to Ancient Babylon and Sumer. With each succeeding major civilization, prostitution became more developed, refined, and subjected to regulation; Ancient Romebeing no exception. • 42. Urban Space Essay Introduction Cities, being the nodes of opportunities and growth, are urbanizing the world at a faster pace than ever. The cities have to respond to this uneven change with immediate priority. The fundamental criteria that differentiates a city from a village is its population density. Urban density can play a key role in the improvement of socio cultural as well as environmental aspects. The compactness of an urban space is now considered to be a strategy for smart urban growth by urbanists and policy makers. A compact citywould concentrate the population to a lesser footprint, thereby localizing and increasing the density. That would, in turn, create lesser impact on the environment. One of the main elements that shape up an urban space is the main mode of transportation that the people in that space use. The transportation systems have a major impact on the formation of an urban environment. The times when walking was considered as a major mode of transportation, the city size was much smaller, the reach one could walk. When man invented faster mobility, the reach extended. The fascination of speed kept the man going and inventing newer modes which stretched the city size to new horizons . Urban Densification and Transportation For centuries, probably everyone who has thought about cities at all has noticed that there seems to be some connection between the concentration of people and the specialities they can support (Jacobs, Jane). Urban density is now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He thought leading marches would be a successful way to get what he wanted. His first boycott was against the Delano grape growers. According to Ricky Tejada Flores Hundreds of students, religious workers and labor activists talked to consumers in front of markets, asking them to do a simple thing: Help the farm workers by not buying grapes. At its height, over 13 million Americans supported the Delano grape boycott. On September 8, 1965, Filipino American grape workers walked out on a strike protesting for years of poor pay and conditions of work. These Filipino American grape growers asked Cesar Chavez to join them on the strike. Cesar led a 300 mile walk from Delano to Sacramento. The strike turned into a boycott and lasted over two years and a half. At this point some strikers were getting impatient. Some were even thinking about retaliating with violence to prove their manliness. But, Cesar rejected that idea and decided to fast. He lasted twenty five days without eating anything only drinking water. The fasting worked, all talk of violence stopped and everyone was rededicated to nonviolent striking and boycotting. By 1970, the grape boycott was a complete success. Grape growers finally signed their first union contracts, granting workers better pay, benefits, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Research Paper On Nightcrawler As of 2015, my favorite movie was Nightcrawler. The reason why this movie appeals to me so much is because of how the film portrays the power of ones will to achieve a goal and ultimately, reach success. Furthermore, veryaspect of the film unveils its core theme. The movie is quite dark and gritty with a subtle feel of thrill. Not only does the movie evoke thrill at times, but also anticipation and a sullen sense of cruel, but cool adventure. The main character Louis Bloom drives home when he encounters an accident. He watches as two men film the accident yet are not helping.Nevertheless, Louis becomes intensely focused and submerged into his field of career after he sells his first film of a graphically gory shot of a victim who got shot ... • 45. Essay Mapping The Violence in Colombia Mapping The Violence in Colombia The peace researcher Johan Galtung proposes a typology of violence, constructed as direct and indirect, formal informal and visible invisible. Regarding it as a triangle, Galtung (1990) states that typology of violence corresponds roughly to the ABC levels of the conflict triangle: Attitude, Behaviour and Contradictions. In the first level Direct violence (acts of violence as such) and in second and third level underneath the surface; Structural violence and Cultural violence. See figure below. The Structural Violence concept by Galtung (1969) asserts that the structure and culture in societies are a central facet on the explanation of violence; thus, human beings are being influenced so that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, to define violence is a highly intricate process that has taken many decades for social researchers. Violence is understood differently in the cities than the countryside, in the north and south, and in places directly affected by conflict (see appendix 1). In general terms, the characteristics that intersect the general violent map in the whole country can be summed up in four types; structural, institutional, cultural and interpersonal. Violence and survival are another two elements to analyse, as citizens have created mechanisms of co existence with violence by fitting the rules of paramilitary, guerrilla, drug cartels besides the government structural norms. Therefore, these power agents in the country condition the behaviour of the population living in the middle of the war. By applying Galtung s cultural structural violence theories to Colombia, it can be analysed that references to cultural structural violence in this country can be found from popular culture to politics. Depicting its reality, TV, soap operas, cinema, journalism, news and literature illustrate violence as a part of their life where many rough stories are told and some are still happening. The vox populi says that everyone in Colombia has been exposed to a violent incident either that has happened to them or somebody close. Inside Colombia, its people see themselves as a disorganised state with diverse confrontations. In addition, popular culture references ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Nature of Evil in Humanity in the Book, Heart of... In Joseph Conrad s novel Heart of Darkness, the cultural collisions illustrates the struggles Marlow experiences as he questions the nature of evil in humanity. Marlow compares his experience in Africa as the Romans did nineteen hundred years ago, they both were shocked when they got there. When Romans came long ago they did not expect to see anyone, and when Marlow came he expected something different. He thoughtthat the natives were happy to have civilization and wanted to integrate into their society. But he was wrong, they were being treated as criminals and were not even respected. He knew that something else was going on there. The men that were there were just lusty, red eyed devils looking for their fortune. They did not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is similar to the brickmaker s situation. He says that since he has no straw he cannot make bricks. He is showing his lazy characteristics when he does this. Conrad uses of biblical allusions helps his argument of man s inhumanity to man by showing us the evil that is in the root of civilization. Humanity is tainted with sin and evil and Conrad is highlighting the fact that some humans will always be evil. At the end of his journey he realized the reason that everyone who went on this expedition was trying to make their fortune and that is how Kurtz eventually died. His appetite for more ivory had got the better of him. No matter what the cost to himself and the people around him, he was going to be the best and get the most money. His selfishness eventually caused his death when the manager downstream would not send food because he hoarded all of the ivory all to himself. Marlow knew that Kurtz was very serious about his job when he saw heads on the stakes in front of his house. Which could have been a warning to other people who try to come get his ivory. But the interesting part was most of the heads are faced toward his house. Kurtz wanted attention and loved to have power. These heads could be there to adore him just like the natives when he was with them. Kurtz search for power and wealth left in its wake death and destruction, showing that humanities quest for wealth leads to destruction. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Life Of Pi Animals Being stranded in the middle of the Pacific with only the company of a full grown Bengal tiger will take its toll on a person. In the book Life of Pi animals are a place of comfort and familiarity to Pi, the son of a zookeeper, who spends his whole life surrounded by them. While stranded in the middle of the ocean, he believes various animals from his family s zoo are with him on the lifeboat, and the question of if that is true is to be interpreted by the reader. The animal story is not the truth, but it is Pi s own bearable fiction, it presents the story in a way the reader can respond to and begs the question of which story they believe and which story they want to believe. His story of the animals is a different interpretation of reality, by turning his story into fiction, it becomes much easier to stomach the idea of what happened. While in the aftershock of the boat sinking, Pi asks, what of my extended family birds, beasts, and reptiles? They too have drowned. Every single thing I value in life has been destroyed (Martel 98). This is the reality, no matter which story the reader chooses to believe, Pi lost everything he loves in his life when the boat sank. Fiction is his coping mechanism, turning his story into fiction distracts from the fact that he lost everything.
