Why I Need Literature Analysis
I can admit whole heartedly that Literature has saved my life.
Looking back, I have chosen literature over a lot of things, sometimes it was my family and
friends whose views on education differed greatly from my own, but most often I was choosing
literature over temptation; which, seductively presented itself all over the extremely urban streets
of south central L.A. Temptation is the reason many of my old friends are in jail now and why I
am the only member in my family to have graduated from high school. It has taken many people
away from me, my friends and family who have turned to drugs to numb the woes of their inherit
circumstances and even my father who is still in jail, that I have yet to and may never meet.
Literature offered me companionship and a place to be understood. It was sanctuary, my nurturer. I
was introduced to James Baldwin, Langston ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today, as the president of the literature club I am changing people s attitudes towards reading and
writing and cultivating a community of readers and writers on campus. Through the club I am
able to act as an instructor on many different genres and styles of literature. There I most often
choose pieces of literature that would allow members to analyze another era of time and
understand the struggles of that time through the literature; as well as, other forms of literature
like movie scripts, music lyrics, and comic books to promote the diversity of literature in its many
contemporary forms. Through events like book drives and poetry slams we are able to reach out
to people, who aren t even necessarily English majors, and watch as literature enhances their lives
as they voice their angst with society through their poetry. The workshops I ran on poetry and
creative writing as a means of self expression allowed me to analyze many peoples work while
improving my poetry just by teaching

The Silent Killer Research Paper
The Silent Killer No high school student should be in a coffin instead of a cap and gown. 1
Ohio school, 4 bullied teens dead by own hand is the news headline when 4 students from
Mentor, Ohio take their own lives in 2010. Sladjana Vidovic was buried in the dress she planned
to wear to prom after hanging herself from her bedroom window. At her wake, the family
watched as the girls who tormented Sladjana approached the casket and laughed. Eric Mohat, the
alleged class clown, shot himself in the head just two weeks before his trip to Hawaii with his
school choir. Just three weeks later, Eric s friend Meredith Rezak took her own life in the same
manner. Jennifer Eyring died from an overdose on her mother s anti depressant. All... Show more

Well, the same thing goes for a law. If a law is created but not continuously enforced, it is
essentially useless as well. Ohio s law requires schools to write their own bullying policies, but
that s just about as far as it goes. The state has no way of knowing if these policies are carried out
on a day to day basis because they simply don t bother to check. Governor John Kasich recently
signed the Jessica Logan Act into law which rewrites Ohio s anti bullying and harassment law to
add cyberbullying, but still it does little to enforce schools to carry out these policies. When
bullying leads to someone commenting suicide, that should be enough of an indicator that the
current laws and policies are not effective and change must happen and fast. These enforcements of
Ohio s laws are ineffective and, thus, leave the law virtually powerless. Students continue to bully
other students because they see no real repercussions. But it does not always have to be this way.
When a school official calls a student into their office and gives them nothing but a tongue lashing
and a slap on the wrist or an occasional after school detention, the only thing being enforced into the
mind of the bully and the victim is that bullying in their school is somewhat acceptable. This
permissive attitude towards bullying must be stopped. Bullies must be held

The Violation Of Miranda Rights
Mr. Knight s statements to officers in the patrol car cannot be suppressed for violation of Miranda
rights because he was neither in custody not subjected to an interrogation. To suppress a statement
under the Fifth Amendment for violation of Miranda rights, (1) the suspect must be in custody of
law enforcement officials and (2) subjected to interrogation (3) without being first provided
Miranda warnings. United States v. Brownlee, 454 F.3d 131, 4 (3d Cir. 2006) (citing Rhode Island
v. Innis, 446 U.S. 291 (1980)). Here, the policeofficers that detained Mr. Knight are law
enforcement officials; however, Mr. Knight was not in custody because he was stopped for a short
and temporary amount of time, and the officers explicitly told him that he would be free to go after
completing the traffic summons paperwork. Additionally, Mr. Knight s incriminating statements
during his detention were not the product of an interrogation because they were voluntary and not
reasonably foreseeable by Officer Davis. Consequently, Mr. Knight did not require a Miranda
warning, meaning his incriminating statements in the patrol car cannot be suppressed under the
Fifth Amendment.

Argumentative Essay On Avatars
During our class discussion, I found the topic regarding avatars and what they say about us the
most intriguing. At a young age, I was an animations and video game enthusiast; online avatars
are nothing new to me and corresponds to one of my current hobby: cosplay. With cosplay, a
combination of the words costume and play, I pick certain characters from video games or
animations to essentially dress up as, and proceed to hand make the costumes from scratch. It is not
simply the putting on the costume that makes this experience valuable, it s the physical
embodiment of the character that allows you to experience the two dimensional world unknown to
reality. This process of becoming a specific character nails down every detail from the wigs,... Show

In the particular genre of videogames, Waggoner agrees to Marvin Minsky s idea that people s
differentiation between artificial and real or between outside and inside will be blurred since our
connection to the real world is [already] very thin. Waggoner understood that much of this
connection is the relationship between the online user and his/her/their connection to the avatar.
There is a tension in this relationship since the avatar is part of the user, yet still remains
separate for the avatars exist independent[ly]. However, the type of relationship present is
dependent on the user, which is why some people find themselves deeply rooted to the avatar.
This concept ties in the idea of role playing and the ability to essential become a different person.
Waggoner imposed the question whether one s identity [is] any less real than [one s] real world
identity to Morrowind, single player fantasy game, gamers and received very dynamic responses.
The responses ranged from users who isn t willing to concede that [their] virtual identity is as
significant, to users who unconsciously move from the avatar ( he ) to herself

Pros And Cons In Consumer Food
As a consumer, every day I choose what I eat, drink, and otherwise put inside me. For the most
part I read the labels on the packaging, looking for things like sodium and caloric intake per
serving, whether or not what I m about to eat contains nuts or anything else that I have a mild
allergy to. What I don t see on my labels are notices of the use of GMO s, which have become
prevalent in consumer food but are never mentioned unless to say that a product does not
contain GMO s. Are we to believe that any food that does not specifically brand itself as a
healthy non GMO alternative to be partly made in a lab? This is simply not the case, though a
good percentage of goods found in a grocery store either contain GMO s or have in some way
benefited from GMO use. GMO s are unavoidable in this day in age, despite a culture of disdain
and fear has developed due to the failures of big corporations to properly address the fears of the
more cautious. As a consumer, we have the right to know and control that which we consume.
The right to control what we consume is a basic human right, and not being made aware of the
use of GMO s impinges on that right. Even if the average person can not fully understand what
GMO s are or what purpose they serve in the food they eat, they still should be made aware of
what is in their food. Better yet, by introducing the means to educate the populace on the ways that
GMO crops benefit them and the environment, GMO s can become more widely accepted

A Brief Note On The Rock Island Arsenal
In an organization as large as the United States Army, it is critical that managers at every level are
able to effectively perform their duties and maintain the chain of command. Throughout the
semester we have learned about how a manager needs to be able to adapt and how the
responsibilities of a manager might change depending on the culture and structure of a company.
What interested me the most about Mr. Dearborn s position within the civilian sector of the Army
was how he was able to manage both small and large groups of employees simultaneously, both
encompassing vast ranges of personality types and work styles, maintaining responsibility of both
immediate employee actions and contributing to the larger more global direction of the civilian
sector of the Army. The Rock IslandArsenal is located in Illinoison the Mississippi river in between
the cities of Davenport, Iowa and Rock Island, Illinois. As the largest weapons manufacturing
arsenal in the United States it serves a variety of purposes aside from manufacturing weapons.
These purposes include aiding in militarylogistics, and providing base support. The scope of the
Rock Island Arsenal s involvement in military affairs extends beyond the US Army, it receives
contracts from all branches of the United States armed forces and it s allies ( Rock Island Arsenal,
IL. ). Since it s establishment in 1862 it has provided vital intelligence to all branches of the
military and has largely impacted our nations defense

Research Paper About An Event That Changed My Life
A lot of people experience events that change their lives; some are more difficult to deal with. An
event that changed my life was moving from Pennsylvania to New Jersey. I lived I Pennsylvania
for 11 years after my parents split up. I have currently been living in New Jersey with my dad for
about 2 years. Moving at this age was very difficult because it is hard to make friends with new
people since everyone already has a group of friends. It was hard to fit into a new group of friends
so I tried out for the soccer team since I have played my entire life and playing on a schoolsports
team is a great way to make new friends. I didn t make the team so I ended up playing soccer for
the township. While playing on the team I met one of my closest

VI Adaptive Maintenance
Adaptive maintenance is the process of creating flexible enhancements for a given piece of
software. The addition of such features can be alluring to potential customers in that it could
potentially offer something unique, or it could simplify a computerized process by executing
new ideas or making use of new technologies. The process of enhancing current software
however, can be a bit difficult as changes would have to be able to integrate almost seamlessly to
the overall structure of the existing program. In some cases the process is further complicated by
the fact that existing code may need to be carefully modified in order to be able to make the
intended modifications.
Occasionally desired changes cannot fit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Programs that are well maintained and refined are also cheaper to maintain due to having a
better overall layout as well as better documentation. Programmers performing regular
maintenance on such systems are able to be more efficient and can potentially spot any errors
more easily. In some cases, a complete overhaul is necessary in order to improve the quality of a
program. No system is truly perfect, however perfective maintenance can forestall the rate at
which complications arise. One disadvantage is that a massive restructuring of assembly language
could have a negative impact on the portability of the software itself. Typically systems that would
be most likely to invest in perfective maintenance are those which serve an essential purpose in
everyday life. One example would be a banking system in order to protect their software and avoid
massive defects that could significantly impact their regular business operations.
VIII Reengineering Source Code Sometimes coding is so badly written that it may as well be a
foreign language with non descriptive variable names and few if any comments. Such code may be
easily understood by the original programmer, however it can be difficult to read for anyone else.
In such a scenario it would be beneficial to reengineer the code so that it s more readable and
easily understood by most anyone who needs to work with it. Restructuring

Although there are those in our society who believe that bipolar disorder, or manic disorder, is self
induced, meaning you can just get over it , further observations have revealed that those who suffer
from manic disorder endure this illness characterized by dramatic and unpredictable mood swings.
Maniasymptoms may include excessive happiness, excitement, irritability, restlessness, increased

Social Class And Student Education
Social class can play a big part in the evolution of a student s education. For most students growing
up, all that crosses their minds is having fun and enjoying their childhood regardless of where they
come from. Once students start to recognize life after high school, it is no longer about fun and
games, instead they turn to their parents for guidance. This is where social classcomes into the
equation. A student from a poor background will start to realize that they must work harder if they
want to continue their educationand pursue college. All they are exposed to is what they notice
their parents are doing for a living. In most cases this revolves around getting a low paying job
and living on a tight budget. This is all the student is exposed to and if their parents don t know
much about college they can t expose their children to different paths, and students tend to be
confused. Compare that to a student who that comes from a middle class or rich family with more
exposure to the world and the different career paths. They are more aware of the opportunities that
are around them. These students know that going to college will guide you to success. Thus, by
comparing the difference between low and high class, learning that success doesn t come easy, and
realizing that colleges affect the kinds of opportunity a person gets, proves that social class controls
student s paths to success. Rich students are exposed to more influences that explains the
importance of college

Flipping The Standards Of The Classroom
Flipping The Standards The human mind is constantly learning and absorbing knowledge from
different experiences throughout life. People understand and learn in different ways and paces,
including education because there is a variety of ways students can interpret what is being taught.
The flipped classroom is one of the ways students can get information differently from what they
experience in a modern day classroom. The flipped classroom allows the teacher to give their
lessons to the students at home through the computer and the students can do their homework in
the actual classroom. This allows for students to work at their own leisure and not disturb the flow
of the class for anyone else. The flipped classroom should be seen as a... Show more content on

These videos were such a big hit, Khan quit his job to make the Khan Academy, a nonprofit online
educational platform that holds many videos containing lectures on a variety of topics. The Khan
Academy is used by many schools today and has proven to be successful to most classrooms as
students are able to grasp the concept easily and effectively ( A Teaching Innovation ) (Schmidt).
While vastly different to traditional schooling, the flipped classroom is an innovation that benefit
can every student throughout school. The flipped classroom can be beneficial as they help students
work at their own leisure and help give students a better understanding without disrupting the class.
With the information in class readily available at home, the students can look over and analyze the
lesson and get their own interpretation of the information. If they have any questions, they can
simply ask their teacher when they are given the assignment in class. Since the teacher will not be
giving a lecture in the actual classroom, he or she will be available to answer questions students
may have about the information they received at home (Schmidt). The students have more time to
analyze that data and get their own interpretation of the information thus giving a better
understanding of the information as a whole. Another reason why the flipped classroom can help is
the improved interaction between student and teacher. In the typical classroom, students

How to Respond to Major Natural Disasters by Remote Sensing
How to respond to major natural disaster by using Remote Sensing
Introduction
The increasingly frequent disasters in the world are damaging people s property and security.
Moreover, the catastrophes bring massive negative effects on the development of society. In the
meanwhile, it is impossible to obtain the accurate data of disaster areas by traditional observations or
detection modes. Though natural disaster is a tough problem to human beings, remote sensing (RS)
could help people better deal with it. According to Mei (2008), remote sensing is a reliable
method of measurement which could acquire information about the property of a phenomenon
or object by an observation device which is not in physical contact with the phenomenon or
object under study. For example, bats are good users of RS. They can emit super sonic waves at
25000 70000 Hz and receive the acoustic echo by which means they can locate their prey and
navigate. There are two main categories of RS data: aerial data and satellite data. High precision
is the most advantage of airborne images. Unlike aerial data, satellite data aim at collecting
information from wide range of areas.
There are numerous incomparable advantages of RS which could help respond to natural
calamities, such as wide field of view, non contact and low cost. The advanced technology could
fulfill ample tasks because of its various kinds of probes. For instance, thermal infrared probes
could collect information to predict earthquake and

Liberty And Security
The founding of America was built on freedom, the effort of acting and choosing personal
endeavors and having no fear of impactful consequences. The oppression of the British, there was
an invasion of citizen s rights and a threat to the security of the general population, in such
conditions it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards
for their future security(Paul Larkin 18). America entered war viewing security and liberty as one to
create the modern united states. However, the balance between liberty and security are different as
protecting citizens from foreign threats is different from protecting their liberty. Internet, airport
security, and social media are just a few examples of a nation achieving unlimited freedom and
security to citizens but also having the power to take it all away as achieving full control of power
and privacy is an abuse of the government repeating the same oppression that the founding
generation once feared.
A global network contains information of nearly everything from programs to communicate, the
internet is a factor of citizen s everyday lives and one of the main functions of the modern world.

Perils Of Knowledge In Frankenstein
The Perils of Knowledge Ever since man stepped foot on Earth, the search for knowledge has been
neverending. Within the past few centuries, man reached new heights never before dreamed of
when it came to information and inventions. Mary Shelley s Frankenstein embodies this quest for
intellect. Victor Frankenstein, the main character, sets off on a journey to acquire as much education
as possible, but by doing so ends up creating a shockwave of various effects. Thus, Frankenstein
displays how the obsessive pursuit of and acquirement of knowledge leads to extraordinary
accomplishments, such as new technology and inventions. However, at the same time, this impulse
spurs nefarious actions and consequences. Victor Frankenstein is the first character in the novel. His
life starts in a wealthy and noble family and after some time decides to attend the University of
Ingolstadtto study sciences. Victor becomes so obsessed with his studies that the stars often
appeared in the light of morning whilst I was yet engaged in my laboratory , (30). Studying night
and day, Victor eventually made some discoveries in the improvement of some chemical
instruments , a contribution that undoubtedly led to improvements in the science and medical
aspects of the 19th century (31). However, the main focus of Victor s compulsive studies comes
later in the novel when he creates the creature. He grasped for the idea of creating a living human

Diffusion Of Osmosis Lab Report

Diffusion of Osmosis through a Membrane
Introduction
The aim of these experiments are to determine the diffusion of osmosis through a selectively
permeable membrane by using a solute and determining the rate at which concentration moves from
an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration and marking the time taken from
the starting point to the end point. Membranes can be impermeable to larger molecules such as
ions and proteins to pass through where permeable membranes will allow hydrophobic molecules
such as lipids and small molecules like oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide to pass through.
The motive force for the movement of water is the differences in osmotic pressure between ... Show

The percentage indicates the number of grams of solute per 100ml of solution. Secondly, to
assemble the funnel apparatus, you will have to obtain a section of membrane and keep it wet.
And then you will need to place the membrane of the mouth of the funnel and secure it with an
elastic band, then fold the membrane over the first elastic band and secure it with second elastic
band. Make sure the membrane is tight over the mouth of the funnel and it should not leak. The
membrane should not be allowed to get dry during this experiment. Then you need to add one
drop of food colouring to your sugar solution and by doing this it will make it easier to identify
the solution in the tube of the thistle funnel. Then you have to suspend the funnel in the beaker
with the mouth of the funnel about 2cm off the bottom of the beaker. Once done this, you will
pour distilled water into the beaker until the water level is 1cm above the lower rim of the funnel.
When you are making the control, you use a dropper to fill the funnel with coloured distilled
water to the first mark which is the lowest point. When you are making the experiments, you use a
dropper to fill the funnel to just below the first mark with the sugar solution and remember the
volume used. You need to watch the movement of the solution and when it reaches the first mark,
make a note of the time because this will be the starting point. The funnel will be marked at 1mm
intervals so allow the solution to rise to exactly 10 mm and make a note of this time. Once you
have done the first replicate empty both funnels and examine the membranes for damage and then
do 2 more replicates using both funnels and both funnels will contain the sugar

Effective Diets
We have all heard of different types of diets in fitness magazines, weight loss books, and
television commercials, but which diets have been researched and been proven to be effective
for weight loss? Two of the most popular diets are a low carbohydrate diet and a low calorie diet.
A low carbohydrate diet removes almost all carbohydrates from one s diet. Carbohydrates are a
macronutrient that provide the body with energy. A low calorie diet lowers the amount of calories
in one s diet by lowering the amount of fats and the total amount of daily calories a person takes in.
Low carbohydratediets and low calorie diets are effective for weight loss but can be difficult to
follow.
Random, controlled studies show that both low carbohydrate ... Show more content on

A classic example of a low calorie diet would be half a plate of vegetables, a small side of beans
or rice, and a lean cut on meat like chicken or beef. So a great side effect of these diets is that a
person is forced to eat healthier. Both diets are effective for weight loss but can be difficult to
follow for several reasons. Both diets can be difficult to follow if a person is eating out at fast
food restaurants and are not cooking their own food. Some restaurants are now trying to cater to
these diets, but most are high in carbohydrates and calories. When followed correctly both diets
can make most people feel fatigued and moody because the body has to use stored fat as energy.
Low carbohydrate diets are more difficult to follow, because a person s insulin levels are lowered
in the body. This is because of the lack of carbohydrates, which causes more food cravings and
less energy. This is a good sign that the diets are working. Low calorie diets are not as difficult to
follow because a person is still eating plenty of carbohydrates, which keeps their insulin levels

John Dewey s Theory Of Education, And Progressive Education
For as long as one can recall, students have been attending school and learning the basic skills of
reading, writing, and arithmetic because it has been mandatory. From the start of this routine
existence, communities possessed one room building where a single teacher educated the assorted
ages of prodigies. Those students learned to read, write, and calculate math problems in the same
manner as their parents and grandparents before them. Through the same mundane process of
repetition, students also learned history, vocabulary, and geography. This style of learning
did
nothing to help the students understand what they were learning but simply to measure the strength
of their memory. The ideas of John Dewey have helped educators understand how his theory has
changed the way teachers educate their students and how applying practical activities will better
prepare students for the real world.
John Dewey As time has progressed, John Dewey has introduced in education a philosophy known
as pragmatism, which pragmatists believe that reality must by experienced (Pavlis, 2017, p. 24).
Dewey s thoughts on education analyzes both traditional and progressive education. Traditional
education mainly focuses on curriculum, which sets the learning path students take throughout
their educational years. On the contrary, progressive education focuses on the students interests
(Aliya, 2015, p. 193). Dewey believed that traditional education was too strict and progressive
education was too

Probable Cause In Criminal Investigation
According to Criminal Law and Procedure, probable cause is the least amount of evidence that
is necessary to determine criminality in regards to a search, arrest, or seizure to be proper under
the Fourth Amendment (Hall, 2015). Every case differs in how probable cause is articulated as
well as the basics of the case in terms of who, what, when, where, how, and why. In all situations,
it is more than mere suspicion and less than standard required to prove a defendant guilty at trial
(beyond a reasonable doubt) , (Hall, 2015, p. 399). Furthermore, probable cause is simply the facts
of a case that represents criminality and presented by the law enforcement officer to a judge or
magistrate, to solidify their case in ascertaining an arrest warrant... Show more content on

According to Overview of Criminal Procedure, there are three sources of establishing probable
cause, observation, physical evidence, and witness statements (Bethel, 2015). Observation and
profiling are two terms that are easily misinterpreted by people in society who lack knowledge
of determining a crime. Based on an officer s experience, the officer can determine if a crime is
likely to occur by observing certain key elements a suspect or suspects display to the officer,
because the officer has observed the same principles applied in previous crimes that resulted in a
crime. Observation of a suspect is surveilling the suspect for any criminal aspects that are
determined to be criminal. The physical evidence speaks for itself as physical evidence may arise
during the course of surveillance and solidify the officer s determination that a crime is present.
Statements by witnesses or anonymous tips can assist in establishing probable cause and
sometimes can be the only probable cause an officer can establish before further investigating a
potential crime (Bethel,

Styles Of Leadership
In this assignment I aim to outline the advantages, disadvantages and overall effectiveness of the
different styles of leadership.
Authoritarian, or Autocratic, leaderships revolve around a single leader, and those close to them,
whose word is law and power absolute. Authoritarian leaders are confident in their ability to lead
and to take charge. This means that they should be taken seriously at all times; if a subordinate
does not take them serious they may lash out, threaten or simply punish the individual or the entire
group to get their point across. They also prioritise the task over the individual and the group
This leadership style is best suited to emergency situations when the leader is competent and

Democratic works well with skilled and motivated people because they want choice or the ability
to influence one; the leader also wants to hear what people have to say because they want input
and new ideas to directly improve conditions for the group.
The main negative of Democracy is that the leader cannot easily appeal to the minority without
angering the majority because they will lose more support than they gain. Not everyone has an
interest in politics or voting these people are generally happy either way or impossible to please.
Another problem is that because more people are involved with leading the country secrets could
leak; this could be personnel secrets about the leader or even military related secrets.
Democracy is like Autocracy because there is only one leader and they will make the final choice,
however a Democratic leader values the opinions of his subordinates and will choose based on that.
Decision making in a Democracy is very slow when compared to Authoritarianism because the time
it takes for a vote is time

Reforming the NSA to Restore U.S. Credibility
Introduction On June 6, 2013, The Guardian published a story about the National Security Agency
s (NSA) secret Internet surveillance program, PRISM (Greenwald and MacAskill 2013). The
story was based on documents leaked by one of the most successful whistle blowers in American
history, former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. The documents that Snowden has released up to
this time have shown the NSA to be heavily engaged in the collection of personal Internet activity,
bulk collection of telephone metadata, and other forms of surveillance that have brought U.S.
intelligence practices into question. Claiming its actions are related to the War on Terror, the NSA
has insisted that these programs are legal, have not been abused, and are vital to preventing terror
attacks. The leaked programs have not only created domestic furor, but also put U.S. diplomatic
relations with its allies in jeopardy. With the overthrow of the Ukrainian government creating
tension between the U.S. and Russia, Snowden s asylum in Russia is a political and diplomatic
blow to U.S. prestige and moral authority. And with the threat of further Snowden leaks looming,
future U.S. intelligence operations may hinge on the willingness of Washington to alter its policies.
Benefits of the Programs The potential benefits of the NSA s surveillance programs have been
described by the Obama administration as vital to the War on Terror. The two programs that have
received the most attention are the collection

Mallinson, still fuming with animosity towards the lamasery continues to make his plea to leave.
Finally, he just leaves, but with him travels Conway, for he was fond of his friend, and his friend

Hilton s novel leaves the reader with an unsolved mystery since the mystical powers of the
slowing of the aging process remained only within the grounds of the lamasery. Conway soon
realizes this as Lo Tsen ages instantaneously, and transforms into a woman ...most old of any one I
have ever seen. From here he must navigate himself back to the safety of the placid lamasery, but
does he make it?
At this Hilton returns to the frame, in which the neurologist friend of his is trying to trace Conway
s path and find this sacred civilization. The tale was only revealed since he found Conway during
his escape from the lamasery, and had him write the manuscript dictating his story.
Fictional characters fall loosely into two categories: types and individuals. A type character being

person in his own right. The more complex, developing and maturing qualities of an individual
character as he evolves denotes the role of the Hilton s main character, Hugh Conway. Conway s
facets develop amazingly throughout the story. This is do to standards of the fictional society he

Critical Appreciation Of The Poem The Wanderer
Response to Literature: The Wanderer The Wander is an Elegy style poem that depicts the
suffering, exile, and memoirs of an anonymous narrator who refers to himself differently
according to what part of his life he is sharing; a Lone dweller , an Earth stepper , and the wise
man and the Warrior . Although, there is still a lot of debate on whether or not there was only one

Henry Ford s Impact On Society
More than any single person of the last century, Henry Ford can take accountability for creating
the American middle class. We can thank him or curse him, but either way, we have to

not start out as a successful producer of automobiles. After building his first car, the Quadricycle.
In 1899 he formed the Detroit Automobile Company, which quickly failed after only a few

The Main Determinants Of Money Supply Essay
The major determinants of money supply being the size of monetary base and the components
that determines the money multipliers, such as income level, deposit rate, various interest rate,
liquidity preferences of the people, the theory suggests that the NRB s policy has been a steady
growth money supply which is reflected in the publication, the Periodic Economic Planning, of
the planning commission and the Economic Review published by NRB. According to Thapa
(1997), the highest growth was recorded in 1960, and the lowest growth was recorded in 1971. In
1960, the M1 and M2 monetary aggregates grew by 40.9% and reserve money (monetary base)
grew by 48.8%. In 1971, the growth of M1 was 3.9% while reserve money declined by almost 1%.
1.2 Conceptual Background of the Rational Expectations Hypothesis The policy effectiveness has
been a continuing debate in macroeconomics between the Classical and the Keynesians. The
introduction of the rational expectation hypothesis in macroeconomics elevated the debate by
differentiating policies into anticipated and unanticipated. The rational expectation hypothesis
suggests that economic agents use all available information to form the future expectation.
Therefore, any expected policy change will not have any impact on real macro variables as the
economic agents fully incorporate the information into their expectation formation. The policy
implication of this hypothesis is that the change in policy should be a surprise to have a

Forrest Gump Quotes

Run Forrest, Run! Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you re going to get This
quote perfectly describes the theme/thesis of the film and was Forrest s motto. Life will take you
so far from where you are from, so there is no point in worrying about it (Kartha). Forrest Gump is
carried by faith, wit, finesse, ignorance, and love throughout the plot. Forrest Gump may have
not understood his place in those events, but he did have an impact on the society around him.
At the basis of the movie, it is a love story, between Forest and Jenny. While he spends nearly the
whole movie mooning over Jenny, she spends the whole movie trying to escape that love until
the end. To her, love is sick and twisted because all she s ever known is her father s abusive
version of it. But eventually, Forrest s unchanging love (and a tragic encounter with AIDS)
transformed Jenny. There is plenty of examples in the film, of how gump uses his wit or just goes
with the flow and the results of it each time it occurs. Throughout the novel Forrest Gump the main
character, Forrest, is made out to look like a slow, dim witted individual by his peers but perhaps

Eisenhower s Farewell Address Analysis
Eisenhower s Farewell Address
After World War II, America continued to increase their defense to avoid more losses like the Pearl
Harbor incident that killed 2,300 Americans and destroyed ships and aircraft. Furthermore, the Cold
War raised the demand to increase the American defense system. President Dwight D. Eisenhower,
the supreme commander of the Allied Forces during WWII and two term President, was concerned
about the sudden growth and cost of the American defense system. During his Farewell Address,
Eisenhower addressed his concerns about keeping the peace, the creation of numerous weapons for
the national defense, and how scientific and technologic development becomes a powerful and
unregulated tool.

As the United States faced two world wars in less than fifty years, the American government is
obligated to create military weapons and equipment from an armament specialized industry, not
from other industries. American makers of plowshares could, with time and as required, make
swords as well. But now we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense; we
have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions (Ravitch 537).
With the government investing millions to billions of dollars in armament industries, these
industries create and innovate various equipment, weapons, and technology for the military to
employ in their duty defending the country from outside threats. As the fear of communism
continued to spread across the country, the American government invested billions of dollars in
wars against communist regimes. Furthermore, missile forces expanded even further. Some people
may argue the American government exploited the Red Scare to enhance patriotism, national unity,
and authority. However, there is no evidence to back up this claim since it is a conspiracy theory
based on intuition. The Arms Race during the Cold Waris an example of the American government
compelled to employ numerous weapons and technology to demonstrate the strength of their
military. With the Soviets continuing to send satellites such as Sputnik and develop their own
versions of the Atomic and Hydrogen bombs, the Americans employed initiatives such as the
Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) to counter the Soviet threats. The Arms Race continued until the
Soviet Union disbanded in the early 90s and ruined the economy spending money on weapons and

Huntington s Disease Is A Rare Progressive Genetic Disorder
Huntington s Chorea or Huntington s Disease is a rare progressive genetic disorder which
afflicts roughly 7 out of every 100,000 people in North America (Rawlins, 2016, pp. 144 153).
The disease manifests primarily in tissues of the brain, and affects the shutdown of many primary
functions including speech, movement, and cognitive abilities. With a strong genetic component,
there is a 50% chance of just one parent passing the gene linked with Huntington s Disease along
to offspring; additionally, studies have proven that everyone with the defective gene will

The government basically gave up trying to help out these species twenty years ago. There are

panther license plate program, which funds the Florida Panther Research and Management Trust
Fund. Launched in nineteen ninety, the license plate has generated significant funding for Florida
panthers: License plate sales raised $2.66 million in nineteen ninety eight to nineteen ninety nine

objectives for establishing additional panther populations. The Auditor General for the state of

hold of newly discovered gold in pursuit of riches.
The Fraser River Gold Rush was British Columbia s first significant gold rush. In 1857, a local
man was taking a drink from the Thompson River when he noticed a tiny glittering pebble. That
pebble was then discovered to be gold and with that the history of British Columbia was changed
for eternity. In 1858, when the word spilled out that there was gold near the Fraser River, more
than 30, 000 people flocked to the shores of the Fraser River to Lillooet, British Columbia to find
gold. A significant amount of seekers were Americans looking for new opportunities after the
California gold rush had come to an end. Due to the arrival of many Americans, to prevent
American invasion from threatening the British sovereignty in the area, a new colony called New
Caledonia was created, which is now present day British Columbia. The gold rush ... Show more

The gold rush took place in the remote, isolated Cariboo Mountains. It began when prospectors
from the Fraser River Gold Rush discovered gold near the Horsefly River. Prospectors came to
Canada from around the world, mainly from Germany, China and Hawaii for the gold. Just like
the Fraser River Gold Rush, many First Nations were forced to leave their land once again due to
settlers moving in. In 1862, Governor James Douglas made workers build the Cariboo Road,
between Yale and Barkerville, BC to provide a wagon route to the gold fields of the Cariboo
regions. In 1866, the Cariboo Gold Rush

The Voting Age
In the article Why We Should Lower the Voting Age to 16, Laurence Steinberg asserts that
teenagers deserve more than just a voice to make a change but a right to vote (Steinberg). He
elaborates on how teenagers are qualified to vote because their minds are fully developed enough to
make good choices. Steinberg believes that teenagers have the responsibility to vote because
currently the teens right now are having a thoughtful, eloquent protest.
Steinberg insists that the federal voting age in the United States should be lowered from 18 to 16
(Steinberg). Steinberg uses hypophora and logistical evidence to create his empathetic tone. To start
his claim, Steinberg uses an hypophora to to question if young people [are] notoriously ... Show

Because this question would be posed by skeptics and he later on validates his answer to
counteract those people, he strengthened his claim by removing doubt from his claim.
Steinberg is seen as understanding to the teens when he poses that question which creates his
empathetic tone. His tone and the hypophora combined only bolsters his argument. Moreover,
he switches to logistical evidence to back up his hypophora. He states that Cold cognitive
abilities are skills that lead people to reason logically with facts and that they are firmly in place
by [the age] 16 (Steinberg). Steinberg s incorporation of logic in his article not only made an
emphasis on that his claim his correct and supported by factual studies, but it also adds to his
empathetic tone because he can be seen as understanding of teenagers by disregarding
stereotypical information with statistics. In addition to, Steinberg goes back to using hypophora
in the final parts of his article to establish his point once more and build his tone. Steinberg
questions Why is higher turnout among 16 and 17 year olds so important? Because there is
evidence that people who don t vote the first time they are eligible are less likely to vote regularly

Her Negotiation Summary
Law and Order: Special Victims Unit is an American drama television show that focuses on the
criminal justice system and police procedural. One of the main themes depicted in this show is
how police officers work assiduously in order to bring justice to victims of a crime. In the episode
Her Negotiation, the audience is presented an act of crimethat must be met with justice. In
analyzing this specific television episode we will examine how the media can construct an
ideology of crime and policing that does not reflect our criminal justicesystem. In the episode, Her
Negotiation, the detectives are determined to prosecute a psychopath who has managed to avoid
jail time in his pervious criminal act. The episode starts with a detective chasing... Show more

As discussed in class, many people never come into contact with a police officer or have experience
with the criminal justice system. Therefore, the public might be subjected to create a perception
of the criminal justice system constructed off of the media they are exposed to. This television
show relies on the dogma that in order to achieve justice, a wrongful act must be penalized
though incarceration, which serves as a way of remediation. In this episode, we are presented
with a violent act of crime that most people agree is a morally and ethically a wrongful act. In
order to correct this wrongful act, the show offers the ideology that the police must prosecute the
criminal in order to achieve justice for the victim. However, as discussed in class, many of the
crimes people are incarcerated for are non violent offenses. A majority of these crimes are drug
possession that does not include a victim. Furthermore, this show also suggests that every offender
has the opportunity to go to trial. As illustrated in the episode, the defendant had an opportunity to
go to court within a couple of days of the committed act. Yet, as we learned in class, most
defendants end up negotiating a plea bargain and never have the chance to encounter a grand jury.
Therefore this show misconstrues the reality of our criminal justice

My Summer Memories Involve Me At Camp
All of my summer memories involve me at camp. From third grade on, I have spent my
summers growing up among the pecan trees and feeding on Blue Bell ice cream. I had always
done the same activities each year; swimming, riflery, arts and crafts, aerobics and fishing. But
that all changed when I went to a different session. I was now thrown into a mix of new girls
with new ideas. When the time came to choose activities, I looked to one of the girls in my cabin
for advice. We had only met that day but I could tell that she was someone you looked up to.
When she suggested I did dance with her, I turned it down. I hated dance and the thought of
standing on stage for an hour in the blazing heat repulsed me. But, she persisted. So I caved in. I...

Victorianism Versus Modernism

Victorianism in The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Modernism in The Metamorphosis
Victorianism is about how the individual could improve the society. They believed that a good
individual could make the society better as a whole and therefore improve life. Victorians focused
on science and the desire for extremely realistic portrayal of life in both literature and art. Some
aspects of Victorian thinking were retained while others were discarded in a new movement called
Modernism. Modernists focus on the individual but have the view that humans are beings without
free will and that they do not look for guidance within them, but instead are driven by ... Show more

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde showed people that being a good person is the best
thing to do for society and for the individual.
The reason Jekyll is a good example to show the Victorian qualities of science exploration and
the effects the individual has on the world is explained by Masao, In this society of respectables
Dr. Jekyll stands out as the very pink of the proprieties (Chap. 1). Although his studies, like those
of Faust and Frankenstein before him, tend toward the mystic and the transcendental (Ch. 10), he
still manages to maintain a considerable scientific reputation. And yet, despite Jekyll s social role
in fact, because of it it is Jekyll who brings for Mr. Hyde. (Masao 470 480) Masao explains why
Jekyll underwent his transformation and how science heavily influenced his thinking to try this
experiment. Masao also explains that science is possible through the well mannered people of the
time and their questioning of ways to improve society. The Modernism Period was about the
individual and that the individual could not really change society. The Modernist literary period
was marked by the reactions and sentiments towards global change and tragedy. The Modernist
movement began around 1890 and lasted to 1945. Now during this time the World Wars wreaked
havoc on the most culturally, technological, and industrialized parts of the world; which caused

Luddism
David F. Noble draws valuable parallels between our era of burgeoning technology and the
technological advances of the industrial revolution.
Proponents of technology during both eras, says Noble, argued that technological advancement was
an essential, unstoppable force that would be inherently beneficial to humanity.
Noble s counter argument looks at the human costs of unchecked technological growth, along the
way re examining and redefining the meaning of Luddism.
Noble stands in defence of Luddism and moves accusations of irrationalism to the religion of
technology on which modern society is supposedly based. According to him, in the wake of five
decades of information revolution, people are now working longer hours, under ... Show more

He argues that, while many processes were developed to improve metalworking after the war, the
ones that ultimately prevailed were not the ones which were most efficient. He demonstrates how
several alternate techniques actually had better results more quickly that the NC (Numeric Control)
machining which eventually came to dominate the industries, and in fact the NC machines were
often slower for a significant period of years.
So why was there so much investment in the less efficient machines? Simple: the owners paid
the R D costs, and the owners were more concerned about control that about pure efficiency or
quality. NC machines held the promise of being able(eventually) to manufacture high quality
goods WITHOUT SKILLED LABOR (precisely like the looms that the Luddites objected to). If
you depend upon skilled workers, those workers have some control, most obviously because they
can t be easily replaced. If the workers are minimally skilled, they can be more easily replaced,
hence the owners have more control.
Is there anything in common between the age of automation now upon us and the first industrial
revolution long ago (circa 1790 1840)? Yes. Both surged ahead with technical progress and
production, and eliminated jobs without jobs for the workers. Both claimed that technological
progress was inevitable and would automatically put things right.

The Effects of Sociocultural Factors on Individuals Essay
Swami Nirmalananda, a disciple of the Indian mystic Ramakrishna, once said Our modern
society is engaged in polishing and decorating the cage in which man is kept imprisoned. Society
is seen as a cage by many because the cultural beliefs that make up the society are what guide the
actions and behaviors of those people within. Sometimes the culture in societies result in helping
people develop successfully and positively, but this is not always the case. For instance, societies
that were challenged by racism during the mid twentieth century were marked by rage and were the
causes of some troublesome lives. In two short stories set during the mid twentieth century, Sonny s

While Sonny s father was alive, Sonny would often fight with him, and after fighting Sonny just
moves back, inside himself, where he can t be reached (42). Also, after Sonny s mother passed
away, it was only Sonny and his brother; however, the two were separated for a long period of time.
Having support or being cared for by family members is invaluable, but Sonny did not have this
and it ultimately resulted in one of the reasons for his troubled life. In Richard Wright s short story
The Man Who Was Almost a Man the main character, Dave Saunders, also faces a problem which
can be similarly traced to sociocultural factors. While shooting his gun for the first time Dave
accidentally shoots his boss , Mr. Hawkins, mule, and the mule dies. The only reason Dave
purchased a gun in the first place was to prove to the others in society, specifically those who
worked alongside him at Mr. Hawkins plantation, that he was not a boy anymore, but rather a
man. While working on Mr. Hawkins plantation Dave is often humiliated by the older workers
because they think [he] ain t nothing but a boy (878). Also, the narrator states near the end of the
story that a group of people that has gathered around the dead mule on the plantation laughs at
Dave as he is walking away with tear filled eyes (886). Once again this emphasizes that he
receives no respect from the others. Mr. Hawkins plantation is similar to the social environment in
Harlem described in Sonny s Blues . Both

Dancing Resilience
Dancing is like all the resilience: emotional resilience, physical resilience, social resilience, and
mental resilience. I say it is emotional resilience because while you are dancing you are expressing
your feeling to people when they watch you dance. Also if you enjoy dancing then, it will also
build your emotional resilience. Dancing gives a return on self investment because it helps connect
to your mind emotions and spirit. I also say that dancing is a physical resilience because they
move with confidence because they are experiencing the music that they are dancing to. Also,
dancing is a social resilience because you get to connect with people, be with people and just have
fun with random people that you probably had never meet before.

Compare And Similarities Between Sherlock And Doctor Who
From England to the United States, BBC America has aired their highly regarded television shows
in our vast continent since 1935. BBC, standing for the British Broadcast Channel, has produced an
abundant amount of nominated television shows from Merlin to Downtown Abbey. However,
BBC is well known for capturing the hearts of teenage and middle age individuals from their
nominated television shows called Sherlock and Doctor Who. Airing on BBC America since the
1960s, Doctor Who is the longest running television show on BBC America. On the other hand,
from Arthur Conan Doyles The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, comes a contemporary twist in the
story and characters of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor John Watson. By looking at the outer portions
of the shows, one can view them as polar opposites. However, both the British television shows
share exceedingly similar qualities in their plot and characteristics of the main leads and their
companions in the show. Sharing similar characteristics in the roles that they play, Sherlock Homes
form Sherlock and The Doctor from Doctor Who are both intelligent lonely men who fancy a sense
of adventure. The Doctor and Sherlock are both perceived as Gods from their astounding
intelligence and being able to overcome death. They are rather intelligent then the companions they
surround themselves with. The Doctor s wisdom comes from living in an advanced alien

The Romani People or Gypsies
There are many types of people in the world who do not have specific states that they call their
homes. Many people like this have fought and still continue to fight to make it so they have their
own place to call home. An example of these people are the Romani people also formerly known
as the Gypsies. The Romani peopleare associated with what is called a stateless nation. A stateless
nation is defined as a national group that aspires to become a nation state, but lacks the territorial
means to do so. The Romani people are nomadic people which causes them to be all over the
world. Because they are known to be all over the world they don t have their own state where they
can practice their historical cultures, their cultures, and their political organization/ government
they follow.
Traditionally the Romani people are nomadic people and are sound on every continent. They are
also called The Roma and in English known as the Gypsies because of the inaccurate idea that they
came from a little Egypt. The Romani descended from people who emigrated from the Indian Sub
continent. The Romani blood lines have been traced and found they are closely related to those of
South Himalayan Tribes and the genetics of them including mutations they have are only found
among Indians and Pakistanis. According to their history it is believed that they came from NW
India and when they left went to Persia around the 11th century. Later they moved northward and

  • 2. Why I Need Literature Analysis I can admit whole heartedly that Literature has saved my life. Looking back, I have chosen literature over a lot of things, sometimes it was my family and friends whose views on education differed greatly from my own, but most often I was choosing literature over temptation; which, seductively presented itself all over the extremely urban streets of south central L.A. Temptation is the reason many of my old friends are in jail now and why I am the only member in my family to have graduated from high school. It has taken many people away from me, my friends and family who have turned to drugs to numb the woes of their inherit circumstances and even my father who is still in jail, that I have yet to and may never meet. Literature offered me companionship and a place to be understood. It was sanctuary, my nurturer. I was introduced to James Baldwin, Langston ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Today, as the president of the literature club I am changing people s attitudes towards reading and writing and cultivating a community of readers and writers on campus. Through the club I am able to act as an instructor on many different genres and styles of literature. There I most often choose pieces of literature that would allow members to analyze another era of time and understand the struggles of that time through the literature; as well as, other forms of literature like movie scripts, music lyrics, and comic books to promote the diversity of literature in its many contemporary forms. Through events like book drives and poetry slams we are able to reach out to people, who aren t even necessarily English majors, and watch as literature enhances their lives as they voice their angst with society through their poetry. The workshops I ran on poetry and creative writing as a means of self expression allowed me to analyze many peoples work while improving my poetry just by teaching ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Silent Killer Research Paper The Silent Killer No high school student should be in a coffin instead of a cap and gown. 1 Ohio school, 4 bullied teens dead by own hand is the news headline when 4 students from Mentor, Ohio take their own lives in 2010. Sladjana Vidovic was buried in the dress she planned to wear to prom after hanging herself from her bedroom window. At her wake, the family watched as the girls who tormented Sladjana approached the casket and laughed. Eric Mohat, the alleged class clown, shot himself in the head just two weeks before his trip to Hawaii with his school choir. Just three weeks later, Eric s friend Meredith Rezak took her own life in the same manner. Jennifer Eyring died from an overdose on her mother s anti depressant. All... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Well, the same thing goes for a law. If a law is created but not continuously enforced, it is essentially useless as well. Ohio s law requires schools to write their own bullying policies, but that s just about as far as it goes. The state has no way of knowing if these policies are carried out on a day to day basis because they simply don t bother to check. Governor John Kasich recently signed the Jessica Logan Act into law which rewrites Ohio s anti bullying and harassment law to add cyberbullying, but still it does little to enforce schools to carry out these policies. When bullying leads to someone commenting suicide, that should be enough of an indicator that the current laws and policies are not effective and change must happen and fast. These enforcements of Ohio s laws are ineffective and, thus, leave the law virtually powerless. Students continue to bully other students because they see no real repercussions. But it does not always have to be this way. When a school official calls a student into their office and gives them nothing but a tongue lashing and a slap on the wrist or an occasional after school detention, the only thing being enforced into the mind of the bully and the victim is that bullying in their school is somewhat acceptable. This permissive attitude towards bullying must be stopped. Bullies must be held ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Violation Of Miranda Rights Mr. Knight s statements to officers in the patrol car cannot be suppressed for violation of Miranda rights because he was neither in custody not subjected to an interrogation. To suppress a statement under the Fifth Amendment for violation of Miranda rights, (1) the suspect must be in custody of law enforcement officials and (2) subjected to interrogation (3) without being first provided Miranda warnings. United States v. Brownlee, 454 F.3d 131, 4 (3d Cir. 2006) (citing Rhode Island v. Innis, 446 U.S. 291 (1980)). Here, the policeofficers that detained Mr. Knight are law enforcement officials; however, Mr. Knight was not in custody because he was stopped for a short and temporary amount of time, and the officers explicitly told him that he would be free to go after completing the traffic summons paperwork. Additionally, Mr. Knight s incriminating statements during his detention were not the product of an interrogation because they were voluntary and not reasonably foreseeable by Officer Davis. Consequently, Mr. Knight did not require a Miranda warning, meaning his incriminating statements in the patrol car cannot be suppressed under the Fifth Amendment. A.Mr. Knight was not in custody Mr. Knight was not in custody because he knew he could leave after he completed the traffic summons paperwork. To suppress a statement for violations of Miranda rights, the suspect must be in custody of law enforcement officials. Brownlee, 454 F.3d at 4. When in custody, a person is ... • 5. Argumentative Essay On Avatars During our class discussion, I found the topic regarding avatars and what they say about us the most intriguing. At a young age, I was an animations and video game enthusiast; online avatars are nothing new to me and corresponds to one of my current hobby: cosplay. With cosplay, a combination of the words costume and play, I pick certain characters from video games or animations to essentially dress up as, and proceed to hand make the costumes from scratch. It is not simply the putting on the costume that makes this experience valuable, it s the physical embodiment of the character that allows you to experience the two dimensional world unknown to reality. This process of becoming a specific character nails down every detail from the wigs,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the particular genre of videogames, Waggoner agrees to Marvin Minsky s idea that people s differentiation between artificial and real or between outside and inside will be blurred since our connection to the real world is [already] very thin. Waggoner understood that much of this connection is the relationship between the online user and his/her/their connection to the avatar. There is a tension in this relationship since the avatar is part of the user, yet still remains separate for the avatars exist independent[ly]. However, the type of relationship present is dependent on the user, which is why some people find themselves deeply rooted to the avatar. This concept ties in the idea of role playing and the ability to essential become a different person. Waggoner imposed the question whether one s identity [is] any less real than [one s] real world identity to Morrowind, single player fantasy game, gamers and received very dynamic responses. • 6. Pros And Cons In Consumer Food As a consumer, every day I choose what I eat, drink, and otherwise put inside me. For the most part I read the labels on the packaging, looking for things like sodium and caloric intake per serving, whether or not what I m about to eat contains nuts or anything else that I have a mild allergy to. What I don t see on my labels are notices of the use of GMO s, which have become prevalent in consumer food but are never mentioned unless to say that a product does not contain GMO s. Are we to believe that any food that does not specifically brand itself as a healthy non GMO alternative to be partly made in a lab? This is simply not the case, though a good percentage of goods found in a grocery store either contain GMO s or have in some way benefited from GMO use. GMO s are unavoidable in this day in age, despite a culture of disdain and fear has developed due to the failures of big corporations to properly address the fears of the more cautious. As a consumer, we have the right to know and control that which we consume. The right to control what we consume is a basic human right, and not being made aware of the use of GMO s impinges on that right. Even if the average person can not fully understand what GMO s are or what purpose they serve in the food they eat, they still should be made aware of what is in their food. Better yet, by introducing the means to educate the populace on the ways that GMO crops benefit them and the environment, GMO s can become more widely accepted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. A Brief Note On The Rock Island Arsenal In an organization as large as the United States Army, it is critical that managers at every level are able to effectively perform their duties and maintain the chain of command. Throughout the semester we have learned about how a manager needs to be able to adapt and how the responsibilities of a manager might change depending on the culture and structure of a company. What interested me the most about Mr. Dearborn s position within the civilian sector of the Army was how he was able to manage both small and large groups of employees simultaneously, both encompassing vast ranges of personality types and work styles, maintaining responsibility of both immediate employee actions and contributing to the larger more global direction of the civilian sector of the Army. The Rock IslandArsenal is located in Illinoison the Mississippi river in between the cities of Davenport, Iowa and Rock Island, Illinois. As the largest weapons manufacturing arsenal in the United States it serves a variety of purposes aside from manufacturing weapons. These purposes include aiding in militarylogistics, and providing base support. The scope of the Rock Island Arsenal s involvement in military affairs extends beyond the US Army, it receives contracts from all branches of the United States armed forces and it s allies ( Rock Island Arsenal, IL. ). Since it s establishment in 1862 it has provided vital intelligence to all branches of the military and has largely impacted our nations defense ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Research Paper About An Event That Changed My Life A lot of people experience events that change their lives; some are more difficult to deal with. An event that changed my life was moving from Pennsylvania to New Jersey. I lived I Pennsylvania for 11 years after my parents split up. I have currently been living in New Jersey with my dad for about 2 years. Moving at this age was very difficult because it is hard to make friends with new people since everyone already has a group of friends. It was hard to fit into a new group of friends so I tried out for the soccer team since I have played my entire life and playing on a schoolsports team is a great way to make new friends. • 10. I V VI Adaptive Maintenance Adaptive maintenance is the process of creating flexible enhancements for a given piece of software. The addition of such features can be alluring to potential customers in that it could potentially offer something unique, or it could simplify a computerized process by executing new ideas or making use of new technologies. The process of enhancing current software however, can be a bit difficult as changes would have to be able to integrate almost seamlessly to the overall structure of the existing program. In some cases the process is further complicated by the fact that existing code may need to be carefully modified in order to be able to make the intended modifications. Occasionally desired changes cannot fit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Programs that are well maintained and refined are also cheaper to maintain due to having a better overall layout as well as better documentation. Programmers performing regular maintenance on such systems are able to be more efficient and can potentially spot any errors more easily. In some cases, a complete overhaul is necessary in order to improve the quality of a program. No system is truly perfect, however perfective maintenance can forestall the rate at which complications arise. One disadvantage is that a massive restructuring of assembly language could have a negative impact on the portability of the software itself. Typically systems that would be most likely to invest in perfective maintenance are those which serve an essential purpose in everyday life. One example would be a banking system in order to protect their software and avoid massive defects that could significantly impact their regular business operations. VIII Reengineering Source Code Sometimes coding is so badly written that it may as well be a foreign language with non descriptive variable names and few if any comments. Such code may be easily understood by the original programmer, however it can be difficult to read for anyone else. In such a scenario it would be beneficial to reengineer the code so that it s more readable and easily understood by most anyone who needs to work with it. Restructuring ... Once students start to recognize life after high school, it is no longer about fun and games, instead they turn to their parents for guidance. This is where social classcomes into the equation. A student from a poor background will start to realize that they must work harder if they want to continue their educationand pursue college. All they are exposed to is what they notice their parents are doing for a living. In most cases this revolves around getting a low paying job and living on a tight budget. This is all the student is exposed to and if their parents don t know much about college they can t expose their children to different paths, and students tend to be confused. Compare that to a student who that comes from a middle class or rich family with more exposure to the world and the different career paths. They are more aware of the opportunities that are around them. These students know that going to college will guide you to success. Thus, by comparing the difference between low and high class, learning that success doesn t come easy, and realizing that colleges affect the kinds of opportunity a person gets, proves that social class controls student s paths to success. Rich students are exposed to more influences that explains the importance of college ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. How to Respond to Major Natural Disasters by Remote Sensing How to respond to major natural disaster by using Remote Sensing Introduction The increasingly frequent disasters in the world are damaging people s property and security. Moreover, the catastrophes bring massive negative effects on the development of society. In the meanwhile, it is impossible to obtain the accurate data of disaster areas by traditional observations or detection modes. Though natural disaster is a tough problem to human beings, remote sensing (RS) could help people better deal with it. According to Mei (2008), remote sensing is a reliable method of measurement which could acquire information about the property of a phenomenon or object by an observation device which is not in physical contact with the phenomenon or object under study. For example, bats are good users of RS. They can emit super sonic waves at 25000 70000 Hz and receive the acoustic echo by which means they can locate their prey and navigate. There are two main categories of RS data: aerial data and satellite data. High precision is the most advantage of airborne images. Unlike aerial data, satellite data aim at collecting information from wide range of areas. There are numerous incomparable advantages of RS which could help respond to natural calamities, such as wide field of view, non contact and low cost. The advanced technology could fulfill ample tasks because of its various kinds of probes. For instance, thermal infrared probes could collect information to predict earthquake and ... Two of the most popular diets are a low carbohydrate diet and a low calorie diet. A low carbohydrate diet removes almost all carbohydrates from one s diet. Carbohydrates are a macronutrient that provide the body with energy. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A classic example of a low calorie diet would be half a plate of vegetables, a small side of beans or rice, and a lean cut on meat like chicken or beef. So a great side effect of these diets is that a person is forced to eat healthier. Both diets are effective for weight loss but can be difficult to follow for several reasons. Both diets can be difficult to follow if a person is eating out at fast food restaurants and are not cooking their own food. Some restaurants are now trying to cater to these diets, but most are high in carbohydrates and calories. When followed correctly both diets can make most people feel fatigued and moody because the body has to use stored fat as energy. Low carbohydrate diets are more difficult to follow, because a person s insulin levels are lowered in the body. This is because of the lack of carbohydrates, which causes more food cravings and less energy. This is a good sign that the diets are working. Low calorie diets are not as difficult to follow because a person is still eating plenty of carbohydrates, which keeps their insulin levels stable. Low calorie diets are still difficult to follow because a person is still eating fewer calories than the body needs to function. • 22. John Dewey s Theory Of Education, And Progressive Education For as long as one can recall, students have been attending school and learning the basic skills of reading, writing, and arithmetic because it has been mandatory. From the start of this routine existence, communities possessed one room building where a single teacher educated the assorted ages of prodigies. Those students learned to read, write, and calculate math problems in the same manner as their parents and grandparents before them. Through the same mundane process of repetition, students also learned history, vocabulary, and geography. This style of learning did nothing to help the students understand what they were learning but simply to measure the strength of their memory. The ideas of John Dewey have helped educators understand how his theory has changed the way teachers educate their students and how applying practical activities will better prepare students for the real world. John Dewey As time has progressed, John Dewey has introduced in education a philosophy known as pragmatism, which pragmatists believe that reality must by experienced (Pavlis, 2017, p. 24). Dewey s thoughts on education analyzes both traditional and progressive education. Traditional education mainly focuses on curriculum, which sets the learning path students take throughout their educational years. On the contrary, progressive education focuses on the students interests (Aliya, 2015, p. 193). Dewey believed that traditional education was too strict and progressive education was too ... Based on an officer s experience, the officer can determine if a crime is likely to occur by observing certain key elements a suspect or suspects display to the officer, because the officer has observed the same principles applied in previous crimes that resulted in a crime. Observation of a suspect is surveilling the suspect for any criminal aspects that are determined to be criminal. The physical evidence speaks for itself as physical evidence may arise during the course of surveillance and solidify the officer s determination that a crime is present. The story was based on documents leaked by one of the most successful whistle blowers in American history, former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. The documents that Snowden has released up to this time have shown the NSA to be heavily engaged in the collection of personal Internet activity, bulk collection of telephone metadata, and other forms of surveillance that have brought U.S. intelligence practices into question. In 1899 he formed the Detroit Automobile Company, which quickly failed after only a few vehicles were produced. (Stanford). Henry and some of his original investors regrouped and formed the Henry FordCompany which quickly ran into problems as well. • 35. The Main Determinants Of Money Supply Essay The major determinants of money supply being the size of monetary base and the components that determines the money multipliers, such as income level, deposit rate, various interest rate, liquidity preferences of the people, the theory suggests that the NRB s policy has been a steady growth money supply which is reflected in the publication, the Periodic Economic Planning, of the planning commission and the Economic Review published by NRB. According to Thapa (1997), the highest growth was recorded in 1960, and the lowest growth was recorded in 1971. In 1960, the M1 and M2 monetary aggregates grew by 40.9% and reserve money (monetary base) grew by 48.8%. In 1971, the growth of M1 was 3.9% while reserve money declined by almost 1%. 1.2 Conceptual Background of the Rational Expectations Hypothesis The policy effectiveness has been a continuing debate in macroeconomics between the Classical and the Keynesians. The introduction of the rational expectation hypothesis in macroeconomics elevated the debate by differentiating policies into anticipated and unanticipated. The rational expectation hypothesis suggests that economic agents use all available information to form the future expectation. Therefore, any expected policy change will not have any impact on real macro variables as the economic agents fully incorporate the information into their expectation formation. The policy implication of this hypothesis is that the change in policy should be a surprise to have a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you re going to get This quote perfectly describes the theme/thesis of the film and was Forrest s motto. Life will take you so far from where you are from, so there is no point in worrying about it (Kartha). Forrest Gump is carried by faith, wit, finesse, ignorance, and love throughout the plot. Forrest Gump may have not understood his place in those events, but he did have an impact on the society around him. At the basis of the movie, it is a love story, between Forest and Jenny. While he spends nearly the whole movie mooning over Jenny, she spends the whole movie trying to escape that love until the end. To her, love is sick and twisted because all she s ever known is her father s abusive version of it. But eventually, Forrest s unchanging love (and a tragic encounter with AIDS) transformed Jenny. There is plenty of examples in the film, of how gump uses his wit or just goes with the flow and the results of it each time it occurs. Throughout the novel Forrest Gump the main character, Forrest, is made out to look like a slow, dim witted individual by his peers but perhaps he may not be as unintelligent as everyone thinks. ... As the United States faced two world wars in less than fifty years, the American government is obligated to create military weapons and equipment from an armament specialized industry, not from other industries. American makers of plowshares could, with time and as required, make swords as well. But now we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense; we have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions (Ravitch 537). With the government investing millions to billions of dollars in armament industries, these industries create and innovate various equipment, weapons, and technology for the military to employ in their duty defending the country from outside threats. As the fear of communism continued to spread across the country, the American government invested billions of dollars in wars against communist regimes. Furthermore, missile forces expanded even further. Some people may argue the American government exploited the Red Scare to enhance patriotism, national unity, and authority. However, there is no evidence to back up this claim since it is a conspiracy theory based on intuition. The Arms Race during the Cold Waris an example of the American government compelled to employ numerous weapons and technology to demonstrate the strength of their military. With the Soviets continuing to send satellites such as Sputnik and develop their own versions of the Atomic and Hydrogen bombs, the Americans employed initiatives such as the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) to counter the Soviet threats.
