Social Hierarchy In Jacob s Life
The main character, Jacob, never expected his parents to fall out of his life. He had a happy life
at Cornell, he was well on his way to earning a degree in veterinary medicine when his parents
were killed in a car accident. He felt a sense of powerlessness, he felt lost. He had nowhere to go:
his home was empty, and no one was willing to take care of him. The mission in Jacob s life now
turned into a mission of survival. He had to learn to become much more dependent on himself.
This was hard for him, and led him to walk out of one of his final exams to become a vet. Once
all hope was lost, he found a circus that changed the course of his life. There he encountered more
powerlessness and survival, both circumstances he already knew. The world... Show more content

Many of the central figures in these hierarchy s use power and manipulation to cause others to
become powerless. One example of this today would general managers in baseball. They have
the power and authority to send players to the major leagues, or the minor leagues. Many of
these players depend on their salary from baseball to support themselves and their families.
When the time comes for call ups, many of the players are left out, similar to how many of the
circus workers were left out and largely ignored by Uncle Al. They are kept in the minor
leagues, where the average salary is between $3,000 and $7,500 for a five month season. This
salary is lower than a fast food workers, and is a testimony to how minor leaguers are largely
disregarded by the MLB. The general managers have the power to call up and send down the
players on his team at will, giving him a large amount of power. Another trait that is relevant in
our world today is survival. For MLB players, this is a concept they have gotten very familiar
with. In our generation, new technologies have been developed that show many aspects of a
players play on the baseball field. There is a lot of pressure on MLB players to be consistently
good, because the alternative of being sent down is one they don t want to face. This is very
cruel, and can also be seen in Water for Elephants. Many of the circus workers have to fight for
duties that are relevant to Uncle Al in order to get paid. Uncle Al is similar to a general manager
in this regard, as he can decide how much each person gets paid based on their role in the circus.
Three baseball players are suing the MLB with hope that they will raise the wages minor leaguers
get paid, but there is little hope. The MLB is exempt from an anti trust law, meaning that all of this
is legal. The minor league players all have hope that they can make the major leagues someday, but
the reality is that few actually do.

So, I value your patience.
There is plenty of material about the topics I deal with on the web, YouTube for a thorough
investigation. Useful information is out there, but one must make the effort in pursuing it. One
must train himself to know what to look for. What are the motives of the publishers? Often what is

ETHICAL AND LEGAL ISSUE
The ethical dilemma of respecting patient s autonomy, beneficence and non maleficence has been a
challenge for the nurse to deliver provision care to patient. According to Singapore Nursing Board
(1999) under Statement Value 2: Respect and promote clients autonomy, it is the right of every
patient to make their own choices and nurses should respect their preferences. However,
beneficence is referring to an act in the best interests of the patient (Mary Cipriano Ruth, 1999). To

What Is The Power Of One Essay
Growing up is a journey filled with hardships, some of which will break you down and some that
will make you stronger. In Bryce Courtenay s The Power of One , a small English boy dubbed
Peekay grows up in a series of harsh environments and difficult situations that force him to adapt.
Peekay spends the majority of his earlier years in a Boer boarding school, which causes him to
be singled out, due to the tensions between the Boers and the English. He is humiliated and
physically hurt on a daily basis, most of which occurs at the hands of an older boy, nicknamed the
Judge . As he grows older and progresses through life, Peekay meets different people, such as a pet
chicken he names Granpa Chook , a boxer and train conductor named Hoppie,... Show more content

Doc was constantly telling Peekay to think with himself, and analyze the world around him, like
when he told the boy, Your brain Peekay, has two functions; it is a place for original thought, but
also a reference library. (157) The power of one is defined by being able to think for oneself and
being independent, and Doc drums both characteristics into Peekay. The quote encompasses a
good majority of what Doc taught Peekay, to analyze, and think outside the box. He taught
Peekay to challenge the norm, for the sake of challenging the norm. Doc was also a fatherly
figure that encouraged Peekay to grow and stop holding back: To be smart is not a sin. To be
smart and not use it, that is a sin, Peekay. (162). In the Beginning of the book, Peekay talked about
his camouflage, something that the used to protect himself against the Judge. His decision to be
painfully average conflicts with his dream to be the next welterweight champion of the world, and
that is something that holds him back from achieving the power of one. He holds himself back in
school, something that Doc does not approve of. After this quote, Peekay starts to succeed, and
starts to stand out in a good

Wall E: A Realistic Look into Our Future
This is called farming! You kids are gonna grow all kinds of plants! Vegetable plants, pizza plants.
~The Captain from Wall E We all know that there is no such thing as a pizza plant. But this is
coming from a captain that never knew anything about earth. Just imagine our world being
destroyed and then robots beginning to clean it up while we are on a luxury space cruise.
Now this might actually happen in our future. If you haven t seen the movie Wall e I suggest you

Just imagine. But this stuff is already happening to us. We are getting to attached to our electronics
and there is so much more junk food in our grocery stores that we are changing without us even
noticing.
We also have a lot of things in our world now that cause pollution. Transportation, food production,
and energy production. These things are just some of the many pollution causes on earth.
With all of these things our world would start to die by the minute and that s exactly what
happened in the movie Wall E. All of this stuff would be crazy.
Why did the creators of the movie base it like this? Could it actually be because they think all of
this will happen in our future? Well I talked to some people to see what they thought about all of
this and here are some of the answers I have.
Person 1said Maybe, because if you look at our world now, the technology has increased and there
will probably be a lot of changes like robots and it might damage our world.

The Babylonian Exile And The Color Purple Essay
Conceptions of God has the ability to be altered in order to mediate and bring together social and
political forces, as seen in Alice Walker s The Color Purple and the Babylonian Exile. Both
examples display the challenges some experience with their perception of God and how their
outlook impacts outlying forces. These forces, specifically social and political, are prevalent in the
individual s daily lives, causing them to confront the conflicts that exist between these forces and
how their viewpoint of Godcan interfere and aid in mediating the forces. The struggle to find a
definite view of God is highlighted in an excerpt from Alice Walker s The Color Purple, where the
two main characters, Celie and Shug, discuss what they believe to be their own conception of God.
Celie described her perception of God as being big and old and tall and gray bearded and white as...

The Babylonian Exile was a time in which Jewish people were exiled from Jerusalem and forced
to live in Babylon as captives. During the Babylonian Exile, many Jewish people had only faith
to hold onto as a way of staying strong and not succumbing to their situation and perceived God,

advertising on the web I am talking about are the rectangular boxes that you see at the top of the
screen usually with some sort of advertisement on it. Advertising companies who are targeting
men will show commercials that involve beer, cars, sports figures who are endorsing the
company s product, sports drinks, shaving cream, and Norelco products. These commercials are
specifically directed towards men. You have to give some credit to the advertising companies;
they know exactly what time of day the majority of men will be watching television and on what
sites to put their attention getters. I often ask myself why are men the targets of this style of
advertising for T.V. and web sites? I know I can give you several answers to these questions.
The first answer would involve the stereotypical society we live in. The men are usually seen as the
ones who make the most money; therefore, advertising companies

Stress
Stress is something that makes you feel bad and can bring you down everyday. Some stress leads
to depression or mental illness. School, work, sports, and friendships are some the things that keep
me stressed out. After many years of have stress hanging over me, I have finally learned how to
handle it through prayer, and quality time with friends and family.
After I took the Major Life Events Stress assessment, my score came out to be 135. Personally, I
feel like this score is fairly low compared to what it could have been. My score could have easily
been 300. In the assessment, it said if your score was 300, then you were at risk of illness. 38 of
my points came from a change in my financial state. The reason I feel like I have had a change in
my financial state is because in the summer and when I am not in school, I can work full time
and make a decent paycheck. Most of the time I either work on our family farm or mow grass.
While i am in school I don t really have a lot of money because I never have time to work. This is
very stressful because I am not the type of person to ask my parents for money, I like to be
independent because it makes me feel better about myself. School usually keeps me stressed out

I recently wrote an essay about the development of the star persona of Ice Cube, the rapper/actor

Comparison Of The Big Boy And Big Two-Hearted River By...
Nick Adams, a mentally and physically wounded individual, featured in Big Two Hearted River
by Ernest Hemingway, written in 1925, experiences an emotional journey through the process of
fishing. Whereas Big Boy, a black boy in Big Boy Leaves Home by Richard Wright and written
only a decade later in 1936, endures the racial tensions between blacks and whites in the South
and the struggles Big Boy encounters to ensure his survival. While some readers may claim that
both short stories appear as though there is a resolution or ending, there is a larger scope to both
of the stories endings in which the reader is not fully certain of the outcomes of Nick Adamsand Big
Boy. Therefore the endings are suspended and leave the reader guessing. The suspended endings
of both stories impress differentiating after lasting emotions on the reader as the motives for
which each main character heads towards the cities diverge. Big Boy Leaves Home imparts a
hopeful but skeptical ending perspective due to the uncertainty if Big Boy is truly safer away from
the South, whereas Big Two Hearted Riverconveys a positivistic ending for Nick Adams as a
Hemingway code hero his healing process. Big Boy, an overgrown black teenager that lands
himself in the crosshairs of racial prejudice after killing a white man, struggles through multiple
obstacles to escape the Deep South and head to the North. After having spent the night in the kiln
and fighting off a snake and a dog, Big Boy boards a truck headed for, presumably, Chicago.
However, Wright creates uncertainty for Big Boy s future even if he does reach the North, let alone
Chicago itself. Big Boy has no finances, no shelter, nor from the reader s understanding, extended
family outside of the South. At the end of the story, The truck sped over the asphalt mines, sped
northward, jolting him, shaking out of his bosom the crumbs of corn bread, making them dance
with the splinters and sawdust in the golden blades of sunshine (Wright 53). The crumbs of the corn
bread shaking out demonstrate the mental growth and emotional hardening that Big Boy obtained
from his life threatening situations the previous night but also as a symbol of shaking out the last
of home and starting

India Is A Land Known For Its Diversity
Introduction:
India is a land known for its diversity with respect to culture, languages, religions and cuisine.
Several dishes in the Indian cuisine find its roots delved deep into tradition and history. Examples
of these indigenous dishes include Paneer, Dahi, Avial and so on.
The dairy industry in India has grown tremendously in recent years post the success of the
Operation Flood Programme. This programme, which began in the 1970 s, was a noteworthy
event globally and the impact of this can be witnessed in the fact of India rising to the status of
being the leading producer of milk in the world. Out of the total milk produced in the country,
nearly 40 50% is converted into a variety of dairy products whose origins lie deeply rooted into
Indian tradition. The processes used to manufacture these products include heat and acid
coagulation, heat desiccation and fermentation. Paneer is one such product which is an indigenous
traditional type of fresh cheese prepared by heat acid coagulation of milk. Coagulation refers to the
formation of large structural protein aggregates where fat in milk and other colloidal and soluble
solids are entrapped with whey. The major protein present in milk that gets coagulated is casein.
Paneer is unsalted and unripened unlike several of its western counterparts such as Roquefort
cheese, Cheddar cheese and so on. It shares a few similarities with Tofu and western cottage cheese.
As with the entire food industry within the country, the

The New York Times By Nadine Unger
In The New York Times, Nadine Unger argues against the common belief of planting trees in her
article, To Save the Planet, Don t Plant Trees, which was submitted online on September 19, 2014.
She wrote this article due to the United Nations(UN) Climate Summit, which took place on
September 23, 2014 in New York. The UN Climate Summit was a meeting to discuss climate
change, where the UN Secretary General Ban Ki moon invited leaders of governments, the private
sector, and civil society to unite towards a low carbon world. Unger mentions that they are likely to
promote reducing deforestation and planting trees as they address the rising rate of carbon
emissions (par. 1). She argues against the popular belief of how trees affect climate change and
global warming. Her audience consists of Americans, tax payers, and those affected by global
warming and climate change, arguing that planting trees while avoiding deforestation is a bad
gamble on the earth s environment. Unger effectively argues that there are unknown effects of
planting trees and implores her audience to intervene in the political situation through the use of
statistics, scientific diction, and human emotion. Global warming has become such a politically hot
topic. Unger mentions that the UN has met to discuss the issues and needed solutions pertaining to
carbon emissions, believing that they will continue the cycle with planting trees and avoiding
deforestation. She informs her audience about how planting

Raw by Scott Monk, Hard Rock by Etheridge Knight, and Dangerous Minds by John N. Smith
Institutions can have positive and negative effects that can alter an individual s perceptions,
judgment and values. Raw by Scott Monk, Hard Rock by Etheridge Knight and Dangerous Minds
by John N. Smith help communicate an understanding of how such institutions can reform an
individual.
The novel Raw written by Scott Monk, is simple in style but introduces interesting and an
acceptable insight to the concept of the institution and the individual experience . Brett Dalton
resembles a highly wrought, reactionary character who challenged or feels confronted by structures
of authority or control.
Using Brett as the protagonist, Monk opens ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He implies that the power to change lives within the individual. Further on in the novel, Brett is
still of concern and Sam reaches out to try and help. Don t shut me out, Brett. I do know the score
and that is why I m worried about you . This indicates the positive effect of the institution and on
the individual.
Josh is another character who helps Brett reform. Josh is seen as the rehabilitated teenager who
chooses to stay on the farm. He helps Brett realize that his problems are the least of his worries
when compared with other troubled teenagers, for example Josh himself. His problems are quite
indescribable, he has no parents that desire to care for him, whilst Brett does, and this changes Brett
s perspective towards Josh and his life. Monk deliberately outlines the change in Brett through Josh
to demonstrate the changing experience and positive effect of the institution on Brett.
Scott Monk employs many techniques to convey his ideas of the positive changes Brett incurred
from an institution. One of many is the use of contrast, which juxtaposes Brett s life at the
beginning and his reformed life at the end. Monk highlights this contrast through the prologue and
epilogue. In the prologue, Brett hates anyone who has the authority he thinks the whole world is
against him, whilst in the epilogue Brett had learnt to make friendships, gain trust and respect and
learn to accept his own mistakes and responsibilities.

imagination. In some cases, bullying can undermine the self esteem of the victims which can force
them to take extreme measures dangerous to them and others. The experience of school bullying
can end up causing enduring damage to both victims and bullies. The effects of school bullying
include decreased academic achievement, depression and anxiety and high risk of self destructive

Destruction of the American Dream in Death of a Salesman...
We may have different backgrounds, but we believe in the same dream that says this is a country
where anything s possible. No matter who you are. No matter where you come from. President
Obama, Commenting on the American Dream
The American Dream is a set of ideals in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and
success. It is the belief that, no matter how poor you begin life, you can achieve upward social
mobility for your family and children. Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman, crushes the ethos of the
American Dream. Miller s ability to portray this delusional idea through the life and relationships
of Willy Loman, a typical, low income American, is exquisite. America, in 1949, was experiencing

businessman he claims he is. Miller uses Willy to show that although the American dream is still
alive, there are those who just do not make it. Willy will not face the truth though. Willy is a
failure in life, but he feels even more so because of the fact that success in the American Dream
is supposed to be available to anyone. This figure has significantly affected his family, especially
his sons. He consistently blames the world throughout the play, such as blaming the teacher for
flunking Biff, and causing his failure at getting a good paying job. He also goes on to blame
Chevrolet for the carburetor tearing up, Bernard for not letting Biff cheat, and eventually realizes it
was his entire fault all along. Once he realizes this, instead of facing the truth about his failure, he
commits suicide.
Many would say that this heart breaking story of Willy s life epitomizes moral law . Moral law
is the indestructible will of man to achieve his humanity (Tragedy and the Common Man).
Basically, it s man drive to save his pride, or gain sort of power. There is no better example of a
man struggling with moral law than Willy Loman. He not only struggles with the other characters,
but with himself. His inner conflict is exaggerated in his multiple flashbacks.

Notes On Inflation, Aggregate Demand And Supply
Task 8: Inflation, aggregate demand supply
Pass Questions
Q2)
CPI
The CPI is an economic, measurable tool that was developed utilizing the costs of a specimen of
delegate things whose costs are gathered occasionally. Sub records and sub sub files are figured
for various classes and sub classifications of products and administrations, being joined to deliver
the general file with weights mirroring their shares in the aggregate of the buyer uses secured by
the list. The yearly rate change in a CPI is utilized as a measure of expansion.
Weaknesses of CPI
1. The CIP calculations are based on a single, generic market basket of goods, which is
inappropriate as the basket varies from individual to individual.
2. Fails to acknowledge changes or improvements in quality.
3. It doesn t take into account effects of the substitution effect. Due to this, the CPI overstates
inflation, when consumers choose to substitute one good for another after its price becomes cheaper
than the good they normally buy.
4. New products bias ABS updates the market basket of goods that used to figure CPI roughly
every five years and the items presented between these upgrades are not included in the market
basket and those items cost increases are not included in CPI.
5. Outlet bias People will probably purchase items from Internet and discount stores yet ABS
gathers value measurements from traditional full price retail stores.

The other thing that TerezГn is known for is its role during WWII. Under Nazi occupation, the
large camp became a ghetto for Jews transported from across the Reich Austria and Germany and
the protectorate Bohemia and Moravia. Later it also housed Jews from further afield including
Belgium, Holland and Russia. It was this ghetto that was dressed up to fool the international Red

monitors were shown a thriving Jewish community complete with shops and music performances

Resurrection The Apostles
Dr. Sean McDowell is a published author and speaker who holds a PhD in Apologetics. He is
well known as an apologist and serves as Assistant Professor in the Christian Apologetics program
at Biola University, while also still teaching at the high school level. McDowell began to dig
deeper into the study of the Apostles fate after an apologetics mission trip to Berkley University.
After his students were challenged with providing proof of the Apostle s deaths, he began to seek
out a comprehensive history on these narratives, and found out that there were very little resources
that sought out an encompassing and tested historical picture of the traditional death narratives.

The first is Peter, who is even eluded to by Christ himself in John 21:18 19. The text seems to
point to Peter s crucifixion, and aligns with the other sources that place his death in the 60 s
AD. This, along with references from early church fathers and at least ten other extra biblical
sources give confidence to Peter being martyred for the faith. The second discussed is Paul, and
scripture can again be referenced in his path to martyrdom. II Timothy 4:6 7 speaks of Paul
already being poured out, and would be understood by its readers. There are also references by
early church fathers, Clement, Ignatius, and Polycarp. James the brother of Jesus has strong and
early extrabiblical accounts of his martyrdom, including Gnostic sources and references from
Josephus. James son of Zebedee is also a reliable example, with outside references, and the
narrative itself is found in Acts 12, describing his death by Herod s order. McDowell gives us two
other Apostles whose martyrdom he would not place as solid in regards to historical evidence, but
reasonably believed. The first is Thomas, whose records within the eastern scholars are numerous,
but dated later. The St. Thomas Christians of southern India hold strong to the story that he was
martyred by being speared to death. Andrew is another, whose historical accounts also show up
later, around the 2nd century. While there are ancient

Hydrologic Cycle Of The Hydrological Cycle
In this assignment, I shall be examining the hydrological cycle and I shall be answering the
following questions provided in the D2L. I will be showing my understanding/knowledge, thinking
and communication.
Define:
В¬Condensation: The process where water vapor or in other words (gas) transitions into water
droplets (a liquid). This is when we begin to see clouds form.
В¬Evaporation: The change of the state from water to water vapor, an estimated average 47 inches
is evaporated into the atmosphere from the ocean each year.
В¬Sublimation: It is the process where ice and snow change into water vapor. They are able to do
that without moving through the liquid phase
В¬Evamp transpiration: The cumulative loss by evaporation and transpiration.
To begin with, the hydrologic cycle doesn t have an area where the sequences commence.
Therefore, it will begin in the ocean since that s where the most of the earth s water exists. The
energy from the sun heats the ocean water, causing it to evaporate. Condensation, the water
vaporizes into water vapor. Subsequently, the vapor ascends into the atmosphere condensation is
crucial to the hydrologic cycle because it is in charge of forming the clouds. Sublimation is the
process where ice directly converts into water vapor without converting into liquid. Furthermore, it
has a slower process than evaporation. Precipitation, clouds begin to form and it begins to
precipitate due to either wind or temperature change. Transpiration,

William Blake born in London on the 28th of November in 1757 to a hosier names James and

A Brief Note On High Performance Computing ) Frameworks...
HPC (high performance computing) frameworks are based on both software and hardware
platforms. The mechanism called fault tolerance is nothing but process which allows system
(frequently software based) to continue working properly in case of failure of its components (one
or more faults) on MPI (message passing interface). In HPC systems like grid computing, cloud
computing etc. fault tolerancemethod highly applicable in order to ensure that long operating
applications are finished their tasks according to time. Therefore, there are different types of fault
tolerance methods introduced in literature.
The goal of this section is to present the study on various fault tolerance methods with its working
and issues associated for HPC systems on MPI computations. Fault tolerance methods are basically
divided into five main research points listed below:
Migration methods
Redundancy methods
Failure masking methods
Failure semantic methods

Abstract
Purpose: This paper investigates the stability and its determinants involving Malaysian Islamic and
conventional banks over the period of 2004 2013.
Design: The study employs the financial ratios and z score index as indicators of bank stability. A
series of parametric and non parametric tests are used to compare the stability of Islamic and
conventional banks. Then, we estimate pooled OLS regression controlling for Islamic banks

The recent 2007 2009 global financial crisis has led to series of failures of many conventional
banks throughout the world. Furthermore, some empirical researches have evidenced the
superiority of Islamic banks performance over its conventional counterparts during the crisis period
(Hasan Dridi 2010; Parashar Venkatesh 2010). These led to increase in global attention towards
stability of Islamic banking system.
Despite of increased attention on Islamic banks, recent studies have evidenced mixed result on the
stability of Islamic banks over its conventional counterparts (Belouafi et al. 2013; Kassim Abd.
Majid 2010; Rokhim Gamaginta 2009; Bourkhis Nabi 2013). Thus, indicates that there is non
consensus on the stability of Islamic banks over its conventional counterparts.
Bank stability during the recent 2007 2009 global financial crisis has been studied from various
perspectives; among others are the application of various measures of bank stability, determinants
of bank stability, and impact analysis. Recent studies which examine the impact of crisis on bank
stability have given attention specifically during the crisis period. While it is useful to examine
the degree of bank stability during the period of crisis, it is also important to determine its degree
after the period of crisis. This is vital as the impact of

Descriptive Essay On A Summer Day
One hot summer s day in the last week of August, my family and I went camping all the way
over in Tennessee. But, every time we go on a trip like this a mystery pops up. But, then again
mysteries can also happen when you are not doing anything. So, it was just ordinary camping
for now. It was just going to be our family, but Elizabeth decided to invite Daniel Hoffman and
Thomas Flipsbargen since their parents were out of town. Ugh! They re really annoying boys,
to me at least. Elizabeth doesn t think they are annoying, and neither does April or Jamie, who
by the way decided to come along as well, so it may just be me. I do get kind of nervous around
boys. We would be traveling 434.8 miles or 6 hours and 31 minutes in a van with only a little bit
of luggagespace, and only a few rest stops along the way! And, then we would have to eat, and
the kids might be noisy, and... There are a lot of possibilities to consider when you are taking a
big trip with numerous amounts of people. We were going to take our trusty van, but, it only
holds eight people and we had ten people coming along. We planned to leave at six in the
morning. We packed that night making sure to pack clothes, our tooth brushes, brushes, and a few
toys for Justin and Ellie, cooking necessities and other things. I slept restlessly that night, my
mind was wandering. What kind of mystery will be waiting for me? Will there be one? Should I
just go to sleep? Elizabeth finally rolled over in her bed and

Eco-feminism Essay
Today, we live in a world interwoven with women s oppression, ecological degradation, and the
exploitation of workers, race, and class. In the midst of these troubles, a movement known as
ecofeminism appears to be gaining recognition. In the following, I hope to illustrate this
revitalization movement . I will begin by characterizing a definition of ecofeminism; I will then
bring to the forefront the ethical issues that Ecofeminism is involved with, then distinguish primary
ideas and criticisms.
Though in theory, ecological feminism has been around for a number of years, it emerged as a
political movement in the 1970s. Francoise d Eaubonne, a French feminist philosopher, coined the

Our western society has become a globalized world of high technology. There appears to be no

find it to be rather paradoxical that nature can exist and has existed without humans, but humans
cannot exist without nature. Nature has become merely a resource to sustain our artificial
environment. I will exemplify certain dichotomies that support the aforementioned conceptual
framework.

recanted his statement, claiming that he was coerced by police and fed the information. After
being interviewed again, Jessie went back to his original statement of being an accomplice, and
even drew a picture of the crime scene. He recanted again, with the same claim of being

Jason. During the trial, Jessie s defense pointed out that he suffered from intellectual disabilities.
Jessie dropped out of school, and when given an IQ test, scored at a third to fourth grade level,

investigators that interrogated him. Not only did he recant his original confession, but even at
trial he was unaware of some facts of the case. There were several bits of information that Jessie
did not know, such as shoelaces being used to bound the boys, or that the murders occurred at
night. Jessie testified that rope was used to bound the boys, and that they were killed during the
day. Those who believe the confession was accurate, including investigators, refute the claims of

African Indigenous Religions Essay
Introduction
African traditional religions were the first recorded religions to grace the plains and coasts of
Southern Africa and possibly even the world. The earliest group of people living in Southern
Africa has been named the San people. It was thought that San etchings and implements found in
caves dated back to between 10 000 and 20 000 years ago (Deacon, 1999). However in 2008 the
oldest art to date was found in a cave in Still Bay in Cape Town, called the Blombos cave. It was
named by Christopher Henshilwood and dates back to 77,000 years (Wits, 2014). This rock art is

The Flynn Effect And Nutrition

The Flynn Effect is the tendency of IQ scores to change over time, and specifically, the apparent
increase in intelligence in the general population evidenced by a steady increase in IQ scores. It
was first noticed by James Flynn (The Flynn Effect). As years went by and IQ tests were
restandardized, it was noticed that when previous tests were taken the outcomes were better on the
previous tests than the tests that were in current circulation. The Flynn Effect has a number of
factors that can attribute to the effect taking place. One factor in particular that has been discussed
by many different people is the factor of overall better nutrition. Overall better nutrition has
occurred in many places over the last 100 years or so. This improvement has been linked to head
growth, earlier maturation of children, increased height, and faster growth (Williams). Increased
head growth most likely means that human brains are growing which can subsequently be linked to
the increased intelligence that is proven by IQ scores. The earlier maturation and faster growth of
children can also be linked to how a population s intelligence improves over many years. The Flynn
Effect and nutrition are related through the correlation of increased intelligence and increased
overall nutrition. The effects of the Flynn effect on nutrition and vice versa are extensive. The

The Great Gossip Girl By F. Scott Fitzgerald

The Great Gossip Girl
A young man desperately battling society, wealth, and rich obnoxious friends in order to win the
heart of the perfect girl...is this the story of The Great Gatsby, or the CW s Gossip Girl? Both,
actually: the hit TV show mirrors Fitzgerald s most famous work through parallel themes and
characters. Cynical subjects such as doomed love and corruption of the upper class play a major
part in both works, as well as the story of fight to surmount class and poverty. This story actually
played out a couple of times over the course of Gossip Girl s intensely dramatic six seasons, but
most notably between Dan Humphrey and Serena Van Der Woodsen. Dan Humphrey was the
James Gatz of Gossip Girl, still struggling to become Jay Gatsby. He had a nice life with his father
and sister in Brooklyn, but always dreamed about something greater. When Nick finally told the
reader Gatsby s true origin story, he said, he invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby that a seventeen
year old boy would be likely to invent, and to this conception he was faithful to the end (p.104).
Dan and Gatsby both had an idealized, or Platonic, view of themselves and the way their lives
would turn out, and they would stop at nothing to get it. Dan created and used Gossip Girl as a
way to get into Serena s world just Gatsby used Nick to get Daisy back. Both men saw their

Next up are cars that can park themselves at the push of a button.
If you believe the hype, it would seem that self driving cars are right around the corner. Google has
been testing them for several years, and states like California and Nevada have authorized them for
use on roads although only with a human behind the wheel. Autonomous driving features, such as
systems that recognize hazards and brake on their own to avoid collisions, are already on the
market. But the fantasy of a car that automatically steers you to work while you read the morning
paper or catch a few extras is still many years away. Autonomous driving is not going to mean
jump in the car, push a button, say Take me to grandma s house and go to sleep, said James Bell,
head of consumer affairs for GM. That may come someday, but not soon.
For decades, most automobile headlights were fairly uncomplicated. They pointed fixedly ahead,
with separate high beams for greater visibility on dark roads. Then came the more energy efficient
halogen and xenon lights and light emitting diodes (LEDs). Now, automakers are pioneering a
generation of smart headlights that can automatically adjust their brightness or direction
depending on conditions. And a coming wave of laser high beams promises to illuminate the road
ahead for a third of a mile twice the range of LED high beam headlights while using less energy.

Bush Pilots Essay
In the early years of flying the bush pilots were an essential growth mechanism for northern
communities. In time of distress they were there to provide the three core emergency services.
The bush pilots served as air ambulances, firefighters and as a tool for policing. One of the other
core functions was transportation and a communication conduit to communities where in some
places dog sleds were the primary form of transportation. Earlier bush planes utilized aerial
survey techniques that were used in developing some of the first reliable maps. It could be said
that both the communities and especially the resources were exploited with use of earlier period
planes. This was clearly far outweighed by the need for the most basic and... Show more content on

With time being the most critical element in of providing proper medical care in the years
following the Great War air ambulances were in high demand. It was also essential to have
doctors come in to remote communities for preventative care. The early pilots helped police as
aerial scouts and also as a means of reaching communities when they needed the Mounties help
fast. There are stories of pilots like Wop May first scouting for the RCMP to find their fleeing
suspect. Reportedly Wop May then quickly extracted an injured Mountie saving his life. In that
situation before early airplanes it could have been days before the mountie received medical
assistance which would have unfortunately resulted most likely in a fatality. The final emergency
role was early firefighting which used airplanes for scouting and later on for water bombing. As
shown many critical roles were performed by early planes and the daring pilots that flew them.
This made for outlying communities which saved many lives. As beasts of burden the early
airplanes excelled. From the time they carried their first large loads of cargo and mail they
illustrated how quickly and easily large freight loads could be brought in to remote regions. There
were so few methods of transportation that could easily deliver more than one hundred pounds of
cargo if there was no water or road access. It was certainly clear from the first cargo flights that
aviation would be the preferred method of

Beyond Petroleum ( Bp )
Beyond Petroleum (BP) formerly British Petroleum is a company that claims to be devoted to
finding new energy sources with little impact on the environment. Ferrell, Fraderich, and Ferrell,
explain in their Business Ethics textbook in 2012 that after several environmental tragedies in the
mid to late 2000 s, the company had to reassess their ethical standards and make changes to repair
their image and regain the confidence of their stakeholders. During this time, they began investing
in wind, solar, biofuels, and many other new types of energy sources. They also created programs to
educate citizens and stakeholders about environmental awareness. Most importantly, though, they
also tasked their ethicsand compliance team with creating a code of conduct policy and
communicate it out to every employee (p.343 345). Considering that BP is a worldwide
company, with employees of diverse languages and cultures, this was a very difficult task to
complete. Not only would it be a challenge to communicate the new code of conduct out to each
employee, but it was even more difficult for the company to enforce it. Because of the lack of
understanding on how to deal with ethical dilemmas, managers and employees within the
company did not complete proper risk assessment, leading to the worst oil spill in U.S. History.
This would come to be known as the Deepwater Horizon spill. BP commonly outsources
machinery and companies to complete certain tasks. They did in this case by hiring an oil rig

The Trench Monologue
Click. The tape recorder started up.
It was dirty that s for sure. The rats ate at your toes and the smell was horrible.
Ed paused and wiped a tear from his eye, staring right across the table at his grandson, who
preceded to ask the age old question.
What really happened that day Grandad?
The grey sky hung close to 16 year old Ed and the other soldiers as they stood, lined up in the
trench. Rain poured heavily over their helmets, draining into the mud. The French sun hid hazily in
the smog covered sky. THUD THUD THUD, cannons pounded shells through the air, towards the
Germans.
Get ready men! shouted the commander.
Next to Ed, a man named John loaded his rifle.
You ready Ed? he whispered.
Ed nodded.

moment to feel a bullet rip through him. Then, out of the blue, a single shot rumbled across the
dormant battlefield. Ed spun around just in time to see the German commander s pistol smoking.
The machine gunner who had spared his life was slumped over, motionless.
Moonlight flooded into the trench as the patrol officers found Ed curled up in a ball, weeping.
What is your name son?
Ed Aarons, sir, he said, looking up.
I can t believe you re still alive! Your family is worried sick about you, back in England. You will
be sent back immediately! This is an outrage! I m very sorry, very sorry indeed.
When I got back home, I expected to be bullied by my family, like before. But it was quite the
opposite. They were proud of me for surviving the war. I gave John s letter to his mother; it was
a horrible experience to say the least. The whole thing is just senseless, killing each other. I hope
no one else ever has to experience the things I saw. To this day, I feel like my soul is still there on
that battlefield, twisting around in the barbed

Analysis Of The Book By Alex Haley
1) Alex Haley wrote the book due to the several interviews he had with Malcolm X. Malcolm is
technically the author of the book due to the fact that those are his words and that Malcolm X
narrates the novel . 2) The difference between the two is that a biography is the writing of ones
life written by another individual in third person. A autobiography is the writing of ones life
written by that same individual and/or protagonist in first person. 3) Malcolm X did not know
his biological father because his father was killed in 1931 by white supremacists. Malcolm was at
the young age of 6 and had little memory of his father. 4) Skin color and hair texture had a major
impact on the family and in the society itself. Due to the fact that Malcolm... Show more content on

The Effect of Neural Tube Defects on Healthcare
According to the Encyclopædia Britannica (2014), a neural tube defect is any congenital defect
of the brain and spinal cord as a result of abnormal development of the neural tube. This birth
defect is the most common congenital defect of the central nervous system, affecting the brain and
/or spinal cord of 300,000 newborns worldwide each year (Ricks et al., 2012, p. 391). The exact
cause of these central nervous systemdefects is unknown, but there are many contributing factors
that are evidenced to assist in the prevention of such a disorder. I will examine the varying types of
neural tubedefect, populations in which this defect is most prevalent, possible causes of the defect,
and how this defect affects the healthcare system.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More severe cases of spina bifida require immediate surgery to ensure the infant s survival.
Encephalocele also pertains to a defect in the cephalic portion of the neural tube. This condition
occurs when a meningeal sac containing brain tissue protrudes from the skull. The outlook for
affected individuals depends on the amount of nervous tissue involved (neural tube defect, 2014).
Infants born with a neural tube defect are also examined for hydrocephalus, or water on the brain.
Hydrocephalus occurs when normal passages for the cerebrospinal fluid that fills the neural tube
are partially or completely blocked by a neural tube defect (neural tube defect, 2014). (Frazier
Drzymkowski, 2013; neural tube defect, 2014) The prevalence of neural tube defects is higher in
Mexican Americans than other U.S. populations (Suarez, Felkner, Brender Canfield, 2012, p. 844).
This correlates with evidence that these malformations occur more frequently in poor, obese, or
undernourished populations. These groups do not have access to, or do not consume, the necessary
nutrients vital to proper neural tube formation. These vital nutrients, as well as some harmful
exposures, will be examined more fully in the coming paragraph. (Suarez et al., 2012) Neural tube
defects develop during the first month of pregnancy; because of this women who are capable of
becoming pregnant should monitor

Edward Jenner s Discovery Of The Smallpox Vaccine
Edward Jenner was a British physician and scientist, who studied anatomy and surgery. Jenner is
best known for introducing the smallpox vaccination to Britain in the year of 1796. He was the
pioneer of the smallpox Vaccine and thanks to him there was cure to this deadly disease. Along
researching about Edward s discovery, it can be inferred what the term, virus, and disease, mean to
further explain this disease; and inform to others what is smallpoxhow, how this disease came

questioned how Jenner came to conclude for such cure, how it was then treated to patients, and how

reuse the code for developing any other applications on Java platform and these applications are
dynamic in nature.
C# and Java offer common syntax and were developed to reduce the coding bugs that are present

Stp Market Segmentation
MARKET SEGMENTATION, TARGETING AND POSITIONING MARKET SEGMENTATION
When it comes to marketing strategies, most people spontaneously think about the 4P (Product,
Price, Place, Promotion) maybe extended by three more Ps for marketing services (People,
Processes, Physical Evidence).
Market segmentation and the identification of target markets, however, are an important element of
each marketing strategy. They are the basis for determining any particular marketing mix. Basic
steps in marketing strategy are as follows:
* ATTRIBUTES OF EFFECTIVE SEGMENTATION
Market segmentation is resorted to for achieving certain practical purpose. For example, it has to be
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Segmentation also helps the marketer assess as to what extend existing offer from competitors
match the needs of different customer segments. The marketer can thus identify the relatively less
satisfied segments and succeed by concentrating on them and satisfying their needs.
6. Benefits the customer as well:
Segmentation brings benefits not only to the marketer, but to the customer as well. When
segmentation attains higher levels of sophistication and perfection, customers and companies can
conveniently settle down with each other, as at such a stage, they can safely rely on each other s
discrimination. The firm can anticipate the wants of the customers and the customers can anticipate
the capabilities of the firm.
7. Sustainable customer relationships in all phases of customer life cycle: Customers change
their preferences and patterns of behavior over time. Organizations that serve different segments
along a customer s life cycle can guide their customers from stage to stage by always offering
them a special solution for their particular needs. For example, many car manufacturers offer a
product range that caters for the needs of all phases of a customer life cycle: first car for early
teens, fun car for young professionals, family car for young families, etc. Skin care cosmetics
brands often offer special series for babies, teens, normal skin, and elder skin.

Feminist Criticism In Frankenstein
Introduction Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley s novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus is
often credited as the first science fiction novel, with many film and textual adaptations. Over the
years, horror movies have taken to using the novel to comment on the fallacies in scientific
study and the tempering of nature s ways. However, it would be erroneous to exclude the
feminist narrative, as Shelley s mother wrote one of the leading modern feminist texts, A
Vindication of the Rights of Woman. This book, along with other feminist literature, was read by
Shelley, and outlined that women only appear inferior to men because they lack an equal, formal
education. Wollstonecraft advocated for a new social order based on equality and logic between
men and women. These ideas can be seen in Shelley s novel using the vehicle of a critique of
masculine focused science to provide a commentary on how society treated, and continues to treat,
women as the inferior sex. Many feminist critics have analyzed and written essays over the topic
of feminist influence both in Shelley s life and her novel. Some such areas of interest include the
scientific treatment of nature, the role of women in childcare and upbringing, and the isolation
created by the pursuit of masculinity. Shelley s life itself is also pertinent to the discussion of
influence, as critics again have analyzed the influence of her biographical experiences. A main point
made is that the characteristics of the male figures in her

Persuasive Essay On Coming To America
I believe there will be a rainbow after a thunderstorm. As any living thing, we go through many
different occasions. Most of them being difficult situations that require a bit more than some fine
tuning to resolve. We usually try to avoid these situations, because they are trouble and
bothersome. But still sometime these decisions are made for us, we do not get to decide what
happens. Whether it s another hard day of work to support your family or making anxious and
pressuring decisions that will decide the fate of a company. They are all rewarding experiences
whether the rewardis minimum wage or landing million dollar contracts. I have never
experienced what people might call hardship before, not until I became 12. Before that, the only
thing I saw as problems were school and the occasional fights at my school. It was never anything
serious, just some scratches. A few years before I was 12, the year I immigrated here to America,
my dad has talked about his thoughts and plans about it. I can remember him putting his hand on
my shoulder with a firm yet gentle grip and speaking Chinese, which roughly translates to You ve
got to study hard, especially English, you will make much use of it later. I didn t understand much
of it then.
But that all changed when I came to America. One day, not long after I moved into my first

Lost Cultural Identity In An Unknown Girl By Moniza Alvi
An Unknown Girl was written by Moniza Alvi after her hand was painted with a peacock picture
by an unknown girl in a local market in India. She is stuck between two cultures and trying to
express her quest for her lost cultural identity. Moniza Alvi moved to England to seek for a better
life with her parents after living in Pakistan for a few months after she was born. Latterly, her
relationship with India became stronger than ever after returning to discover Indian cultureas a part
of her identity that seems to have been forgotten for long.
This poem is written in free verse and the rhythm is fluid, natural like as speech with some rare
rhymes which allows her to flow her thoughts freely. She also uses a variety of techniques to further
emphasize the idea of culture and identity in different ways. Moniza Alvi often uses enjambments
but she does not use punctuation a lot and also does not follow any rules so it makes her poem
seems much livelier. Thus, it creates a sense of nostalgia and makes the tone softer and smoother....

Summary Of Corn Pone Opinions
The essay by Mark Twain, Corn pone Opinions, describes how many people follow the directions
of others whether they agree with it or not. Also through it s contrasting conformities and
independent verdict of people s ways of thinking, Twain suggests that in order for people to
express how they truly are, they must first trust their own abilities without having to depend on
others. This signifies that every person must have a friend or relative critique his or her style to
feel gleeful. Moving forward three supporting reasons in favor of Mark Twains predicament
describe the equal trends that people follow of fashion in today s society, secondly, worldwide
statistic have indeed shown that the majority of people who are peer pressured let bullies take
over their choices and finally how religion influences children, students, adults, and families. These
are clear reasons as to why I am in favor of Mark Twain s statement of opinion. To make people

Knowledge In The Giver
One of the most powerful abstract in the world is knowledge. It can change people s decisions
and the way they look at other people and how they view life. In the novel, The Giver, by Lois
Lowry, the author makes it clear that knowledge has the power to change dreams, opinions, and
fears.
Knowledge has the power to change people s dreams. For example, There s much more. There s
all that goes beyond all that is Elsewhere and all that goes back, and back, and back. I received all
of those, when I was selected. And here in this room, all alone, I re experience them again and
again. It is how wisdom comes. And how we shape our future (71). Jonas and The Giver know that
Elsewhere is a very important place. This is important because Jonas and the giver have a dream
of making a plan for Jonas to go to Elsewhere to release the memories to the community, which they
eventually do. The Giver also dreams of having his daughter back. You can understand then, that

morning s release. Jonas saw his father kill a little baby and realizing that when people are

He felt such love for Asher and for Fiona. But they could not feel it back without the memories.

Innovation and Technology
Core Competence
The business world today is characterized by extreme competence. Clients are going for super
made goods and services. They want to feel the value for their money. In this regard, the idea of
core competence emerged. Fundamentally, core competence refers to an organization s strengths
that make it ahead of other organizations and these strengths make it possible for the company to
add value to its end products through innovation (Prajogo Ahmed, pp.499 515). Through the
concept of core competence companies are able to concentrate on what they are best gifted in and
outsource what they cannot do. This ensures that the products they produce cannot be copied easily
be competitors. Because of the competence, the skill can be used diversely to develop different
products and greatly add value.
Core competence is very vital in innovation because it is a defining aspect for the introduction,
implementation, sustenance and success of innovate ideas (Prajogo Ahmed, pp.499 515). Through
core competence, a company is capable of shaping innovative ideas at an angle that will take
competitors many years to copy and institute. For example, through the spirit of Kaizen, a company
is able to institute a culture of continual innovation which is aligned to the ideologies of core
competence. Each business organization wants to have brands that command the market and the
only way to make this happen is by using innovation. To protect the successful work of innovation,

  • 2. Social Hierarchy In Jacob s Life The main character, Jacob, never expected his parents to fall out of his life. He had a happy life at Cornell, he was well on his way to earning a degree in veterinary medicine when his parents were killed in a car accident. He felt a sense of powerlessness, he felt lost. He had nowhere to go: his home was empty, and no one was willing to take care of him. The mission in Jacob s life now turned into a mission of survival. He had to learn to become much more dependent on himself. This was hard for him, and led him to walk out of one of his final exams to become a vet. Once all hope was lost, he found a circus that changed the course of his life. There he encountered more powerlessness and survival, both circumstances he already knew. The world... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of the central figures in these hierarchy s use power and manipulation to cause others to become powerless. One example of this today would general managers in baseball. They have the power and authority to send players to the major leagues, or the minor leagues. Many of these players depend on their salary from baseball to support themselves and their families. When the time comes for call ups, many of the players are left out, similar to how many of the circus workers were left out and largely ignored by Uncle Al. They are kept in the minor leagues, where the average salary is between $3,000 and $7,500 for a five month season. This salary is lower than a fast food workers, and is a testimony to how minor leaguers are largely disregarded by the MLB. The general managers have the power to call up and send down the players on his team at will, giving him a large amount of power. Another trait that is relevant in our world today is survival. For MLB players, this is a concept they have gotten very familiar with. In our generation, new technologies have been developed that show many aspects of a players play on the baseball field. There is a lot of pressure on MLB players to be consistently good, because the alternative of being sent down is one they don t want to face. This is very cruel, and can also be seen in Water for Elephants. Many of the circus workers have to fight for duties that are relevant to Uncle Al in order to get paid. Uncle Al is similar to a general manager in this regard, as he can decide how much each person gets paid based on their role in the circus. Three baseball players are suing the MLB with hope that they will raise the wages minor leaguers get paid, but there is little hope. The MLB is exempt from an anti trust law, meaning that all of this is legal. The minor league players all have hope that they can make the major leagues someday, but the reality is that few actually do. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Bryce Courtenay s The Power of One , a small English boy dubbed Peekay grows up in a series of harsh environments and difficult situations that force him to adapt. Peekay spends the majority of his earlier years in a Boer boarding school, which causes him to be singled out, due to the tensions between the Boers and the English. He is humiliated and physically hurt on a daily basis, most of which occurs at the hands of an older boy, nicknamed the Judge . As he grows older and progresses through life, Peekay meets different people, such as a pet chicken he names Granpa Chook , a boxer and train conductor named Hoppie,... The quote encompasses a good majority of what Doc taught Peekay, to analyze, and think outside the box. He taught Peekay to challenge the norm, for the sake of challenging the norm. Doc was also a fatherly figure that encouraged Peekay to grow and stop holding back: To be smart is not a sin. To be smart and not use it, that is a sin, Peekay. (162). In the Beginning of the book, Peekay talked about his camouflage, something that the used to protect himself against the Judge. His decision to be painfully average conflicts with his dream to be the next welterweight champion of the world, and that is something that holds him back from achieving the power of one. He holds himself back in school, something that Doc does not approve of. After this quote, Peekay starts to succeed, and starts to stand out in a good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Babylonian Exile And The Color Purple Essay Conceptions of God has the ability to be altered in order to mediate and bring together social and political forces, as seen in Alice Walker s The Color Purple and the Babylonian Exile. Both examples display the challenges some experience with their perception of God and how their outlook impacts outlying forces. These forces, specifically social and political, are prevalent in the individual s daily lives, causing them to confront the conflicts that exist between these forces and how their viewpoint of Godcan interfere and aid in mediating the forces. The struggle to find a definite view of God is highlighted in an excerpt from Alice Walker s The Color Purple, where the two main characters, Celie and Shug, discuss what they believe to be their own conception of God. After I took the Major Life Events Stress assessment, my score came out to be 135. Personally, I feel like this score is fairly low compared to what it could have been. My score could have easily been 300. In the assessment, it said if your score was 300, then you were at risk of illness. 38 of my points came from a change in my financial state. • 13. Comparison Of The Big Boy And Big Two-Hearted River By... Nick Adams, a mentally and physically wounded individual, featured in Big Two Hearted River by Ernest Hemingway, written in 1925, experiences an emotional journey through the process of fishing. Whereas Big Boy, a black boy in Big Boy Leaves Home by Richard Wright and written only a decade later in 1936, endures the racial tensions between blacks and whites in the South and the struggles Big Boy encounters to ensure his survival. While some readers may claim that both short stories appear as though there is a resolution or ending, there is a larger scope to both of the stories endings in which the reader is not fully certain of the outcomes of Nick Adamsand Big Boy. Therefore the endings are suspended and leave the reader guessing. The suspended endings of both stories impress differentiating after lasting emotions on the reader as the motives for which each main character heads towards the cities diverge. Big Boy Leaves Home imparts a hopeful but skeptical ending perspective due to the uncertainty if Big Boy is truly safer away from the South, whereas Big Two Hearted Riverconveys a positivistic ending for Nick Adams as a Hemingway code hero his healing process. Big Boy, an overgrown black teenager that lands himself in the crosshairs of racial prejudice after killing a white man, struggles through multiple obstacles to escape the Deep South and head to the North. After having spent the night in the kiln and fighting off a snake and a dog, Big Boy boards a truck headed for, presumably, Chicago. However, Wright creates uncertainty for Big Boy s future even if he does reach the North, let alone Chicago itself. Big Boy has no finances, no shelter, nor from the reader s understanding, extended family outside of the South. At the end of the story, The truck sped over the asphalt mines, sped northward, jolting him, shaking out of his bosom the crumbs of corn bread, making them dance with the splinters and sawdust in the golden blades of sunshine (Wright 53). The crumbs of the corn bread shaking out demonstrate the mental growth and emotional hardening that Big Boy obtained from his life threatening situations the previous night but also as a symbol of shaking out the last of home and starting ... • 14. India Is A Land Known For Its Diversity Introduction: India is a land known for its diversity with respect to culture, languages, religions and cuisine. Several dishes in the Indian cuisine find its roots delved deep into tradition and history. Examples of these indigenous dishes include Paneer, Dahi, Avial and so on. The dairy industry in India has grown tremendously in recent years post the success of the Operation Flood Programme. This programme, which began in the 1970 s, was a noteworthy event globally and the impact of this can be witnessed in the fact of India rising to the status of being the leading producer of milk in the world. Out of the total milk produced in the country, nearly 40 50% is converted into a variety of dairy products whose origins lie deeply rooted into Indian tradition. The processes used to manufacture these products include heat and acid coagulation, heat desiccation and fermentation. Paneer is one such product which is an indigenous traditional type of fresh cheese prepared by heat acid coagulation of milk. Coagulation refers to the formation of large structural protein aggregates where fat in milk and other colloidal and soluble solids are entrapped with whey. The major protein present in milk that gets coagulated is casein. Paneer is unsalted and unripened unlike several of its western counterparts such as Roquefort cheese, Cheddar cheese and so on. It shares a few similarities with Tofu and western cottage cheese. As with the entire food industry within the country, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The New York Times By Nadine Unger In The New York Times, Nadine Unger argues against the common belief of planting trees in her article, To Save the Planet, Don t Plant Trees, which was submitted online on September 19, 2014. She wrote this article due to the United Nations(UN) Climate Summit, which took place on September 23, 2014 in New York. The UN Climate Summit was a meeting to discuss climate change, where the UN Secretary General Ban Ki moon invited leaders of governments, the private sector, and civil society to unite towards a low carbon world. Unger mentions that they are likely to promote reducing deforestation and planting trees as they address the rising rate of carbon emissions (par. 1). She argues against the popular belief of how trees affect climate change and global warming. Her audience consists of Americans, tax payers, and those affected by global warming and climate change, arguing that planting trees while avoiding deforestation is a bad gamble on the earth s environment. Unger effectively argues that there are unknown effects of planting trees and implores her audience to intervene in the political situation through the use of statistics, scientific diction, and human emotion. Global warming has become such a politically hot topic. Unger mentions that the UN has met to discuss the issues and needed solutions pertaining to carbon emissions, believing that they will continue the cycle with planting trees and avoiding deforestation. Josh is another character who helps Brett reform. Josh is seen as the rehabilitated teenager who chooses to stay on the farm. He helps Brett realize that his problems are the least of his worries when compared with other troubled teenagers, for example Josh himself. His problems are quite indescribable, he has no parents that desire to care for him, whilst Brett does, and this changes Brett s perspective towards Josh and his life. Monk deliberately outlines the change in Brett through Josh to demonstrate the changing experience and positive effect of the institution on Brett. Scott Monk employs many techniques to convey his ideas of the positive changes Brett incurred from an institution. One of many is the use of contrast, which juxtaposes Brett s life at the beginning and his reformed life at the end. Monk highlights this contrast through the prologue and epilogue. In the prologue, Brett hates anyone who has the authority he thinks the whole world is against him, whilst in the epilogue Brett had learnt to make friendships, gain trust and respect and learn to accept his own mistakes and responsibilities. Cause And Effect Of Bullying The Effects of Bullying Nerd, ugly, stupid, creep, loser: these are just a few of the hurtful words that school bullies and other students direct towards their excluded, vulnerable peers in schools around the U.S. Bullying is a familiar word often heard in schools, workplaces and now on the internet. It can occur in the form of physical, mental or emotional abuse. In general, bullying has been perceived as aggressive behavior that is intentional, harassment, and an imbalance of power with the result of inflicting pain or discomfort on others ( Bullying ). Thousands of children in the United States are affected every day by bullying. This kind of behavior is detrimental to all involved and should not be allowed in any school system as it can quickly affect an individual beyond anyone s imagination. In some cases, bullying can undermine the self esteem of the victims which can force them to take extreme measures dangerous to them and others. The experience of school bullying can end up causing enduring damage to both victims and bullies. The effects of school bullying include decreased academic achievement, depression and anxiety and high risk of self destructive behaviors. Willy is a failure in life, but he feels even more so because of the fact that success in the American Dream is supposed to be available to anyone. He also goes on to blame Chevrolet for the carburetor tearing up, Bernard for not letting Biff cheat, and eventually realizes it was his entire fault all along. Once he realizes this, instead of facing the truth about his failure, he commits suicide. Many would say that this heart breaking story of Willy s life epitomizes moral law . Moral law is the indestructible will of man to achieve his humanity (Tragedy and the Common Man). Basically, it s man drive to save his pride, or gain sort of power. I will be showing my understanding/knowledge, thinking and communication. Define: В¬Condensation: The process where water vapor or in other words (gas) transitions into water droplets (a liquid). This is when we begin to see clouds form. В¬Evaporation: The change of the state from water to water vapor, an estimated average 47 inches is evaporated into the atmosphere from the ocean each year. В¬Sublimation: It is the process where ice and snow change into water vapor. They are able to do that without moving through the liquid phase В¬Evamp transpiration: The cumulative loss by evaporation and transpiration. To begin with, the hydrologic cycle doesn t have an area where the sequences commence. Therefore, it will begin in the ocean since that s where the most of the earth s water exists. The energy from the sun heats the ocean water, causing it to evaporate. Condensation, the water vaporizes into water vapor. Subsequently, the vapor ascends into the atmosphere condensation is crucial to the hydrologic cycle because it is in charge of forming the clouds. Sublimation is the process where ice directly converts into water vapor without converting into liquid. Furthermore, it has a slower process than evaporation. Precipitation, clouds begin to form and it begins to precipitate due to either wind or temperature change. Transpiration, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Flynn Effect And Nutrition Nutrition, the Flynn Effect, and Substance Abuse Carly Gottsponer PSY 3813 TC3 Korey Davis September 17, 2017 The Flynn Effect is the tendency of IQ scores to change over time, and specifically, the apparent increase in intelligence in the general population evidenced by a steady increase in IQ scores. It was first noticed by James Flynn (The Flynn Effect). As years went by and IQ tests were restandardized, it was noticed that when previous tests were taken the outcomes were better on the previous tests than the tests that were in current circulation. The Flynn Effect has a number of factors that can attribute to the effect taking place. One factor in particular that has been discussed by many different people is the factor of overall better nutrition. Overall better nutrition has occurred in many places over the last 100 years or so. This improvement has been linked to head growth, earlier maturation of children, increased height, and faster growth (Williams). Increased head growth most likely means that human brains are growing which can subsequently be linked to the increased intelligence that is proven by IQ scores. The earlier maturation and faster growth of children can also be linked to how a population s intelligence improves over many years. The Flynn Effect and nutrition are related through the correlation of increased intelligence and increased overall nutrition. Both, actually: the hit TV show mirrors Fitzgerald s most famous work through parallel themes and characters. Cynical subjects such as doomed love and corruption of the upper class play a major part in both works, as well as the story of fight to surmount class and poverty. This story actually played out a couple of times over the course of Gossip Girl s intensely dramatic six seasons, but most notably between Dan Humphrey and Serena Van Der Woodsen. Dan Humphrey was the James Gatz of Gossip Girl, still struggling to become Jay Gatsby. He had a nice life with his father and sister in Brooklyn, but always dreamed about something greater. When Nick finally told the reader Gatsby s true origin story, he said, he invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby that a seventeen year old boy would be likely to invent, and to this conception he was faithful to the end (p.104). Dan and Gatsby both had an idealized, or Platonic, view of themselves and the way their lives would turn out, and they would stop at nothing to get it. Dan created and used Gossip Girl as a way to get into Serena s world just Gatsby used Nick to get Daisy back. Both men saw their dream girl as all the money and glamour and fame that they wanted distilled into one person, a person whose voice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

February 23, 2015 In the technology world, the latest advancement is only as good as the next thing coming down the line. The auto industry is constantly bringing us new technologies, whether it be for safety, entertainment, usefulness or simply for pure innovation (Neiger,C.). Unless you re an inveterate walker or a mass transit rider, you probably spend more time in your car each week than anywhere except your workplace and your home. It s not always pleasant. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Next up are cars that can park themselves at the push of a button. If you believe the hype, it would seem that self driving cars are right around the corner. Google has been testing them for several years, and states like California and Nevada have authorized them for use on roads although only with a human behind the wheel. Autonomous driving features, such as systems that recognize hazards and brake on their own to avoid collisions, are already on the market. But the fantasy of a car that automatically steers you to work while you read the morning paper or catch a few extras is still many years away. Autonomous driving is not going to mean jump in the car, push a button, say Take me to grandma s house and go to sleep, said James Bell, head of consumer affairs for GM. That may come someday, but not soon. For decades, most automobile headlights were fairly uncomplicated. They pointed fixedly ahead, with separate high beams for greater visibility on dark roads. Then came the more energy efficient halogen and xenon lights and light emitting diodes (LEDs). Now, automakers are pioneering a generation of smart headlights that can automatically adjust their brightness or direction depending on conditions. And a coming wave of laser high beams promises to illuminate the road ahead for a third of a mile twice the range of LED high beam headlights while using less energy. In time of distress they were there to provide the three core emergency services. The bush pilots served as air ambulances, firefighters and as a tool for policing. One of the other core functions was transportation and a communication conduit to communities where in some places dog sleds were the primary form of transportation. Earlier bush planes utilized aerial survey techniques that were used in developing some of the first reliable maps. It could be said that both the communities and especially the resources were exploited with use of earlier period planes. This was clearly far outweighed by the need for the most basic and... It was also essential to have doctors come in to remote communities for preventative care. The early pilots helped police as aerial scouts and also as a means of reaching communities when they needed the Mounties help fast. There are stories of pilots like Wop May first scouting for the RCMP to find their fleeing suspect. Reportedly Wop May then quickly extracted an injured Mountie saving his life. In that situation before early airplanes it could have been days before the mountie received medical assistance which would have unfortunately resulted most likely in a fatality. The final emergency role was early firefighting which used airplanes for scouting and later on for water bombing. As shown many critical roles were performed by early planes and the daring pilots that flew them. This made for outlying communities which saved many lives. As beasts of burden the early airplanes excelled. From the time they carried their first large loads of cargo and mail they illustrated how quickly and easily large freight loads could be brought in to remote regions. There were so few methods of transportation that could easily deliver more than one hundred pounds of cargo if there was no water or road access. Ferrell, Fraderich, and Ferrell, explain in their Business Ethics textbook in 2012 that after several environmental tragedies in the mid to late 2000 s, the company had to reassess their ethical standards and make changes to repair their image and regain the confidence of their stakeholders. During this time, they began investing in wind, solar, biofuels, and many other new types of energy sources. They also created programs to educate citizens and stakeholders about environmental awareness. Most importantly, though, they also tasked their ethicsand compliance team with creating a code of conduct policy and communicate it out to every employee (p.343 345). Considering that BP is a worldwide company, with employees of diverse languages and cultures, this was a very difficult task to complete. Not only would it be a challenge to communicate the new code of conduct out to each employee, but it was even more difficult for the company to enforce it. Because of the lack of understanding on how to deal with ethical dilemmas, managers and employees within the company did not complete proper risk assessment, leading to the worst oil spill in U.S. History. This would come to be known as the Deepwater Horizon spill. BP commonly outsources machinery and companies to complete certain tasks. They did in this case by hiring an oil rig ... This birth defect is the most common congenital defect of the central nervous system, affecting the brain and /or spinal cord of 300,000 newborns worldwide each year (Ricks et al., 2012, p. 391). The exact cause of these central nervous systemdefects is unknown, but there are many contributing factors that are evidenced to assist in the prevention of such a disorder. I will examine the varying types of neural tubedefect, populations in which this defect is most prevalent, possible causes of the defect, and how this defect affects the healthcare system.... Encephalocele also pertains to a defect in the cephalic portion of the neural tube. This condition occurs when a meningeal sac containing brain tissue protrudes from the skull. The outlook for affected individuals depends on the amount of nervous tissue involved (neural tube defect, 2014). Infants born with a neural tube defect are also examined for hydrocephalus, or water on the brain. Hydrocephalus occurs when normal passages for the cerebrospinal fluid that fills the neural tube are partially or completely blocked by a neural tube defect (neural tube defect, 2014). (Frazier Drzymkowski, 2013; neural tube defect, 2014) The prevalence of neural tube defects is higher in Mexican Americans than other U.S. populations (Suarez, Felkner, Brender Canfield, 2012, p. 844). This correlates with evidence that these malformations occur more frequently in poor, obese, or undernourished populations. These groups do not have access to, or do not consume, the necessary nutrients vital to proper neural tube formation. These vital nutrients, as well as some harmful exposures, will be examined more fully in the coming paragraph. • 48. Feminist Criticism In Frankenstein Introduction Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley s novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus is often credited as the first science fiction novel, with many film and textual adaptations. Over the years, horror movies have taken to using the novel to comment on the fallacies in scientific study and the tempering of nature s ways. However, it would be erroneous to exclude the feminist narrative, as Shelley s mother wrote one of the leading modern feminist texts, A Vindication of the Rights of Woman. This book, along with other feminist literature, was read by Shelley, and outlined that women only appear inferior to men because they lack an equal, formal education. Wollstonecraft advocated for a new social order based on equality and logic between men and women. These ideas can be seen in Shelley s novel using the vehicle of a critique of masculine focused science to provide a commentary on how society treated, and continues to treat, women as the inferior sex. Many feminist critics have analyzed and written essays over the topic of feminist influence both in Shelley s life and her novel. Some such areas of interest include the scientific treatment of nature, the role of women in childcare and upbringing, and the isolation created by the pursuit of masculinity. Shelley s life itself is also pertinent to the discussion of influence, as critics again have analyzed the influence of her biographical experiences. A main point made is that the characteristics of the male figures in her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
