Haile Selassie King of Kings, Conquering Lion of the...
Haile Selassie King of Kings, Conquering Lion of the tribe of Judah
When Ras Tafari Makonnen took the imperial throne in Ethiopia in 1930 as Haile
Selassie I, a new movement was born in Jamaica. The crowning of a Black King?
Was this not what Marcus Garvey told his Jamaican followers fifteen years earlier
when he said Look to Africa for the crowning of a Black King; he shall be the
Redeemer (BARRETT 8 1)?
Selassie would prove to be one of Ethiopia s most noble leaders. He pushed
education for his people. He made a valiant effort to drag Ethiopia out of its stagnant
state of unpaved roads, minimal schools, very little education and no say in
international affairs. He looked and carried himself like a king. The Ethiopian

This only added to the Jamaicans belief that he was their savior. Whether or not he
was the second coming, Christ himself or just related to Christ through his heritage.
Haile Selassie was not the infallible savior that these people saw from their island in
the Caribbean, however. As true with most governments and monarchies, Selassie s
government had its deal of corruption. Although they placed their faith in a noble
King, the Jamaicans were disillusioned about the man they believed to be their savior.
The old Ethiopian legend of the Kebra Negast tells the story of the Queen of Sheba
s visit to Solomon s mighty kingdom to learn the secrets of being a great leader.
While in his kingdom the Queen of Sheba bore Solomon a son, to which Solomon
gave a jeweled ring to prove his descent from the seed of David. The Queen of Sheba
returned to her land in, then southern Ethiopia, what is today Somalia, with her son to
continue to rule the land (GORHAM 9).
Between two hundred and three hundred kings are believed to have ruled between the
time of Solomon and Haile Selassie, the last emperor of Ethiopia.
Believed to have been descended from the seed of David, Tafari Makonnen was
born July 23, 1892 in the city of Harar in the eastern province of Harege
(KALEIDOSCOPE). His mother died two years after his birth, and shortly after that
his country was engaged in a war with the Italians. The Ethiopian army
The Perception Of The Human Sciences
Each of us are different in many ways and that fact cannot possible be disputed by
anyone who has any back ground in the human sciences, as it has been
scientifically proven that we all have unique finger prints, DNA, hair, looks,
behavior and facial expressions and the combination of these things make us
unique personality types so to speak. We also function from two different
perspectives and we need to understand how each one of us functions. We each like
to think that we are special (which we are) and in that portrayal system, we mostly
portray what we perceive we want people to think about us. On the other side of
the coin we have a reality in what we truly believe about ourselves and the way we
feel inwardly. Many of us become disillusioned with our true inner picture, simple
because of a misunderstanding of our personal purpose in life. The fact that we
allow this dissatisfaction to creep into our lives, we create an inner insecurity within
ourselves and we then start looking at others or alternatively we start behaving like
others, which is completely outside our true personality, thereby attempting to look
different, behave different, think different, dress different and when looking at our
big picture, become dissatisfied with our true personality, allowing society to name
us as a personality type which is definitely going to influence our level to be
successful in life. Society has made us believe that we need to conform to a standard
of behavior, which then
I Am A Baseball Field
Everybody has a special place that means so much to them every time the set foot
there. My special place just so happens to be a baseball field. It doesn t necessarily
have to be a particular field, it s just that every time I set foot on one I think of all the
memories made when playing the game and of all the friends I have made because of
it. I have been playing baseballfor practically my entire life and along the way have
learned a lot of life lessons because of it. A few fields that specifically stand out to
me are Cooperstown Dreams Park and Wenatchee Valley College baseball field
. A
baseball field is very unique. The smell of the fresh cut grass on game day and the
feeling of the dirt under your cleats are something only baseball players can
describe. Every time I set foot on the field for a game, it always feels like the first
time with the pre game jitters and adrenaline rush of the first pitch. Going to a
baseball field at any level from little league or to a professional game, I just love to
take in all of the excitement and fun while enjoying every playmade because baseball
is easily the greatest game ever invented. A baseball field isn t necessarily loud like
a football game, but it is also relaxing to where you can sit and enjoy the weather
and enjoy conversing with whoever you are there with all while watching a great
game played by kids or adults. That s the atmosphere that I like, and that s another
reason a baseball field is my place of comfort.
Adagio Plucking
The beginning of the piece starts at a mezzo forte and varied a little. The string
instruments had the melody most of the time. The mood of the section was calm
with the approach of danger. It was sneaking up on unsuspecting people. It made
me feel like I was experiencing the aftermath of Star Wars. Even if they had won
the dark side would always come back. In Adagio, the tempo picked up to match a
vivace feel. It had the mood of anticipation. Quite like knowing that a battle must be
fought but there is no idea as to when, but they ll still be prepared. The melody
repeated a lot with different alterations. Moderato used plucking to enhance the
sound. The flutes and cellos created a deeper sound of peace. The plucking was at a
moderate tempo
Decision Making And The Prospect Theory
Introduction
Decision making is the act of choosing the best solution to a problem depending on
its value and the preferences of the decision maker. In the first part of this essay, we
will explore the Expected Utility theory and the Prospect Theory, which are
normative and descriptive approaches to making decisions with inherent risks. The
first part of the essay argues that Expected Utility Theory is a less viable hypothesis
to decision making and is fundamentally flawed compared to the Prospect Theory in
description and function. Prospect theory is a better model for decision making
because firstly, decisions are not often made objectively and can be affected by
decision weights. Secondly, individuals are not risk averse as suggested by the utility
theory, but are instead loss averse. Lastly, individuals evaluate decisions not by their
final resting utility, but instead they react dependently based on their reference point.
The second part of the essay will delve into the topic of heuristics that emerge in
investment decision making. The main biases that investors make include disposition
effect, anchoring and adjustments bias and overconfidence.
Part 1.
Expected utility theory states what rational decision makers should do in order to
maximise their utility. On the other hand, Prospect Theory describes how individuals
make decisions when faced with perceived risk and uncertainty. Utility can be
explained by how much an individual values an extra unit of wealth.
The Roman Triumphs Analysis
In Mary Beard s book, The Roman Triumph, she explores one of the most
interesting victory celebrations of the ancient world. Instead of having a small
gathering, or even a raucous party, Romans brought what they had seized and carted
it through the city. They even brought some people they had captured so that the
crowd could know exactly who they triumphed against. This celebration gives
historians a view into the Romans lifestyle. Roman triumphs also show what values
were important to the Romans and where they found their significance. Using Mary
Beard s book I will demonstrate the nature of Roman triumphs by giving examples
from Pompey s triumph in 61BC, what these triumphs tell historians about the
Roman world and why they are significant, and what they tell us about the values
the Romans held dear. Triumphs were a very distinguished ceremony in Ancient
Roman culture. Receiving a triumph was considered a great honour for Roman
generals. They generals would get drawn in a chariot. The plunder he had won
would follow him, as well as people he had taken captive. The general s troops
would also follow him through the streets until he arrived at the Temple of Jupiter
where he offered a sacrifice to the god. Throughout modern history, many rulers
looked back at Romeat how they celebrated their victories. Other monarchs, dynasts,
and autocrats wanted to celebrate as the Romans did. Even Napoleon imitated a
Roman triumph when he carried what he had taken
America Needs Internet Censorship Essay
Tears begin to fall down a child s face. Her body goes into shock out of fear. Her
mother warned her about watching inappropriate content, and there it was, right on
her computer screen. This could not have happened though. All she was doing was
casually browsing the internet before a pop up appeared. Although it may seem hard
to believe, the major cause of events such as this is the lack of censorshipon the
internet. Internet censorshiprelates to the removal of offensive, inappropriate, or
controversial content published online. The current problem with the internet is that
there are few restrictions on what can be published or viewed. Several sites on the
internet only offer a warning about inappropriate content that can easily be... Show

As a matter of fact, those individuals with damaging thoughts are the ones that watch
and produce pornography. Additionally, exposure to obscene material correlates with
increased rapes, prostitution, child molestation, violent crime, the abuse of women,
and sex addiction in men (Hacker 5). Many of these correlations are a result of ideas
that pornography planted in minds. Pornography alone does not cause people to
commit a sexual crime, but it affects minds enough to influence people to act in an
unethical way.
Censoring the internet would also protect the minds of citizens from corrupt
propaganda. Propaganda that is placed by the government is generally misleading
and discourages deep thinking. An example is Obama s campaign in 2008. People
loved [Obama s campaign], but many did not understand what type of change he was
talking about. Such propaganda stirred passions and made people feel good, but it did
not allow people to think critically about the issues. Rather, Obama smartly played
off anti incumbent sentiment that was sweeping the nation (Snowball 71). Other
times, the government will place propaganda on the internet to influence citizens to
take a certain action. According to John Turner, voters are being misled by the
propaganda of think tanks and the Coalition. Propaganda serves as part of
government coercion. The propaganda seems to be an encouragement of action,
Marxist Theory And Social Class
In contemporary Western societies, there is a social division due to stratification
and classes. Strydom (2005) defines social class as group of individuals that share
similarities like power and prestige. Saunders (2001) states that stratification is the
presence of distinct social groups which are ranked. Therefore, the major difference
is that stratification shows diversity while social classes defines an inequality. In
Marxist theories, society is divided between two classes, and social stratification is
the conflict between them. To illustrate this, China has faced communism for over a
decade, in which has caused major social inequalities within the society. In fact,
China is one of the few countries that the forces of communism and capitalism are
involved. In this essay,it will describe the main idea of Marxist theory and other
theories about social class, then make an assessment of the use of Marxist theory in
today s world.
For Marx there were two distinct groups in society; the ruling and subject group. The
ruling class are those who own the means of production distribution and exchange,
they also called the Bourgeoisie, but the subject class is those who must sell their
labour in the market place in order to live, they could be called the Proletariat. Marx
believed that the Bourgeoisie and the Proletariat was in permanent opposition, the
bourgeoisie exploits the proletariat as the wages workers receive for their labour is a
fraction of the market value of the
Essay on Data Encryption
Data Encryption
I. What is Data Encryption?
Data encryption describes the transformation of plain text into a different format that
is meaningless read by human eye without being decrypted, so called cipher text, in
order to prevent any unauthorized party to obtain information from the document.
According to the Webster dictionary, cryptography is the practice and study of data
encryption and decryption encoding data so that it can only be decoded by specific
individuals. Crypto is derived from the Greek word kruptos, to hide, from kruptein,
which means hidden and secret. In the old days, people attempted to withhold certain
information as their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next breakthrough in the encryption history happened in 1500BC in Assyria.
Intaglio was used by Assyrian merchants to identify themselves in their business
transactions. Intaglio is a piece or flat stone or gem that has some sort of pattern,
designs or writing engraved on its surface that uniquely identify its owner. The idea of
intaglio is very brilliant and people around the world started to use intaglio in their
trade businesses and even as a popular form of identifications in any written
documents in human history until the past century. In fact, the concept of Intaglio is
so good that modern technology created digital signature based on it. Following,
there were many other significant inventions and progresses in the cryptography
history: Skytales by Greeks, long leather strips that wrapped around when the person
writes and reads; Nomenclator, manipulations of alphabets and etc.
Notice that the US had not yet been mentioned in the ancient history of cryptography.
The US did not contribute much at all to the growth until 18th century AD. In 1790,
Thomas Jefferson invented a wheel cipher with the help of mathematician Dr. Robert
Patterson. This wheel cipher is an elaborate form of code system and this invention
make Thomas Jefferson the pioneer of American Cryptography. This invention was
later on enhanced and modified; a couple generations later, it was used in World War
II.
Women And Women During The World War I
A million Australians, both men and women, served in the Second World War. Half a
million were stationed overseas. They fought in campaigns against Germany and
Italy in Europe. The Australian homeland came under direct attack with aircraft
bombings by the Japanese in north west Australia. All citizens at this point were
encouraged to be apart of the war effort, even children under the age of five. Over
30,000 Australian servicemen were taken prisoner by the Japanese and Germans in
1942. The men that had left Australialeft their jobs to the women. Some of these jobs
involved teaching which reduced the staff availability in Australian schools. Families
were also divided as the women now had work and provide for their children.
Australian school teachers in WW11 urged their students to do their bit in the war
effort. (Aussie Kids View: WW11) Organizations such as the SPF, school Patriotic

dumps to find scrap aluminum, lead, brass, copper, bones, bottles, old rags and

direct contribution to Australia s air force. (Aussie Kids View: WW11) The scrap
metal would be re melted and refined for air craft parts other than the alloy sheet.

(Stakeholdermap n.d.) Stakeholders can be classified into two categories, which are
internal stakeholders and external stakeholders. Internal stakeholders are participators
in the management of the company who are highly affected by the performance of
the company and have vested interest in the business. (Surbhi, 2015) However,
external stakeholders are not a part of the management so they may or may not be
directly affected by the activities of business but use some publicly available
information to meet their needs. (DifferenceBetween, n.d., 2013)
Plc which means a public limited company is a large type of company that has at least

Samuel Colt Argumentative Essay
Introduction In 1836, Samuel Colt introduced his Colt Pearson revolver to the
world. This moment changed the course of history and made a legend of both the
man and his product. Though the invention of the revolver did have an enormous
impact on society, was it for the better? Did it bring peace as the name one model
suggests, the Colt Peacemaker, or did it bring death and destruction? It is a difficult
task to look back on the impact of an invention and determine whether or not society
would have been better off without it. The revolver can be considered as being both
a tool of protection and an efficient dealer of death. It has a storied history that, good
or bad, is legendary. The Innovation That Made the West There were two innovations
Samuel Colt introduced to the weapons manufacturing industry that changed the
world. The first was the revolving cylinder. Prior to Sam Colt, the only pistols with
the capability to fire multiple rounds without reloading had to have multiple barrels

Thus making it not only widely available, but also relatively inexpensive. These
facts made for a very dangerous combination in a vast landscape with few lawmen.
The Wild West, as it was called became a lawless place, a place where a small gang
of men could rob banks, stagecoaches, and trains with impunity. One example of
such outlawry can be seen in the legendary exploits of Jesse James and the James
Younger Gang. Jesse and his gang had terrorized the people of Missouri and the
southwest for sixteen years before he was finally gunned down by a fellow gang
member in 1882. He is credited with having robbed eleven banks, seven trains,
three stagecoaches, one county fair payroll messenger, and the murder of sixteen
people [Neosho Daily News, 1979]. Jesse s weapon of choice in the committing of
these crime s was his trustee pair of Colt .45 peacemakers
Robert Frost Uses Imagery and Analogy in His Poem,
Birches...
In Birches , Robert Frost uses imagery and analogies as a way of conveying his
message. Frost s use of imagery and analogies are used in the themes of nature,
analogies, and imagination. Frost uses imagery throughout the poem to create a
vivid image of how he imagines the Birches to be. His use of comparisons enables
the reader to view the Birches in numerous perspectives. His use of imagery and
metaphors are appealing because they are pragmatic, and create a clear image for the
reader. Nature is an important theme in every frost poem. Nature usually symbolizes
age or other things throughout Frost s poems. In lines 5 10 it says, Often you must

It is like when a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly. The caterpillar has to shed it
s cocoon in order to grow and transform, meaning in order to grow or transform into
a better person you have to face and overcome battles. That sometimes means that
we have to get rid of our old ways and habits as well. In lines 29 33 it says, By
riding them down over and over again until he took the stiffness out of them, and
not one but hung limp, not one was left for him to conquer. He learned all there
was to learn about not launching too soon. In lines 44 48 it says, And life is too
much like a pathless wood where your face burns and tickles with the cobwebs
broken across it, and one eye is weeping from a twig s having lashed across it open.
I d like to get away from earth for a while. Frost s use of nature in these lines
represents life. The trees in lines 29 33 are things in life to take advantage of or
conquer, such as, opportunities, goals, accomplishments, battles, and or life itself.
In other words to take life by the horns. The key to success is not backing down
from the things you want to accomplish in life; however, if you are not patient and
rush everything you might just find yourself on the ground. Everything in life will
not be easy. Sometimes life knocks you down, and you might end up with a scar, but
it made you stronger. Even though you may fail when trying new things you have to
get back up. The key to success is

Empathy In The Grapes Of Wrath
Empathy is vital to trust but what if that understanding is absent, or if sympathy is
not given as needed? Such is the case of The Grapes of Wrath, where class
differences rule over a turbulent and aggressive rivalry. The novel follows the
struggling lower class, oppressed by the corrupt upper class, who cannot understand
their hardships. This lack of understanding and willingness to sympathize with the
lower class boosts tensions and further emphasizes differences between the classes,
leading to the primary conflicts of the story. Through the use of juxtaposition and
point of view in his novel, The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeckshows that the upper
class lacks the empathy to relate to the struggles of the lower class.
Characters in The Grapes of Wrath are often contrasted to emphasize certain qualities
in their relationships, the most notable being a lack of empathy versus a caring and
generous nature. Steinbeck s use of juxtaposition is key to understanding the
significance of the contrast involving the landowners and the migrants and why they
cannot share sympathies and opinions. These two groups are both rivals and
continuously reinforce differences in their lifestyles, and such is the case for the
landowners and migrants, which are two drastically different classes that will not
cooperate. The migrants are searching for job opportunities and safe places, but are
often cheated by the landowners, who are corrupted by their drive for cheap labor
and, ultimately, riches,
Martin Luther King, And Nelson Mandela
Throughout history, many political leaders have transcendental ideas and beliefs,
such as Martin Luther King, and Nelson Mandela, but there are many that do not
conform to transcendental ideas, such as Alexander Hamilton and Joseph Stalin. It
can also be noted that those who have transcendental ideas are 20th century thinkers
and politicians while those who are not transcendentalist thinker are 18th century
politicians. People such as Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela had their
political career after the nineteenth century transcendentalist movement, while
Alexander Hamilton had his political career prior to the movement. Joseph Stalin is
different, his political philosophy he follows was created at the same time as the...

King commented on nonviolence by saying, Violence as a way of achieving racial
justice is both impractical and immoral. This quote shows how Martin Luther
King was against nonviolence as he says it is immoral. This philosophy gives
advice on how to live nonviolently, similar to how Thoreau would give his readers
advice on how to become one with nature. Martin Luther King s final idea was
practicing nonviolent protest in order to achieve a goal or reform. King, with
many other people, in the 1950s and 1960s practiced nonviolent protest in order to
achieve his goal of ending segregations, and believes equal rights for blacks across
the United States. Martin Luther King s practice of nonviolence is directly borrowed
from Thoreau s work of Civil Disobedience and Nonviolent Resistance, King even
commented on the use of nonviolence by saying, The teachings of Thoreau came
alive in our civil rights movement. In conclusion, Martin Luther King can be
considered a transcendental thinker due to the philosophies he created, the Triple
Evil philosophy and Six Principles of Nonviolence philosophy, as well as his practice
of nonviolence.
Another modern transcendentalist thinker is Nelson Mandela. Throughout Mandela s
life, he has shown to believe in many different forms of

Karl Marx And Max Weber
In the modern world, what are the sources of class struggle? Is there/are there class
struggles and classes that are primary, and if so, what? Do these class struggles
inevitably lead to revolution?
Karl Marx (1818 1883) and Max Weber (1864 1920), both social scientists, dedicated
much of their time and work towards the common goal of interpreting the causes and
effects of capitalism. They did this by creating a sense of understanding (not only for
themselves but for others as well) in regards to capitalism s construction, foundation,
mechanism, and its future. In their assessments of capitalism, both Marx and Weber
appear to have two different conclusions based on comparable as well as noticeably
dissimilar factors. As a result of Marx and Weber s different approaches, in regards to
capitalism, both of their understandings and beliefs of the causes, effects and the
future of capitalism and class struggle share certain ideas however, part in others.
Marx s conception of history and society s future is illustrated through constant
class struggle. In fact, Marx s sociology is more often than not called The
sociology of class conflict (Priya, 2015). The idea of class struggle or conflict
surfaces from the concept of materialism (or greediness) throughout history and
constant surplus value. Surplus value is the difference between a worker s wages
(also known as exchange value) and the value of goods and services he or she
produces (also known as use value)
Great Depression s Influence on American Vernacular Dance
How did the Great Depression influence the evolution of American vernacular dance?
In the Great Depression, the American dream had become a nightmare. What was
once the land of opportunity was now the land of desperation. The Great Depression
was an economic slump in North America, Europe, and other industrialized areas of
the world that began in 1929 and lasted until about 1939. It was the longest and most
severe depression ever experienced by the industrialized Western world. Nevertheless,
it had immense impact on the evolution of American vernacular dance by bringing
jazz music and dance to the masses, raising the nation s spirit through music and
dance.
The Great Depression hit hard, but it hit African Americans the hardest. They... Show

Yet another famous dance that evolved was the Big Apple , which originated in a
small southern town. A group circle dance, it gave couples the opportunity to show
off, or shine . It incorporated swing early swing steps and originally required a caller
. Frankie Manning is accredited to bringing the Big Apple to New York and
popularizing the dance with white culture.
The popularity of these aforementioned dances during the Depression can be easily
interpreted as the psychological comfort it gave of strength in numbers and because
it was more than just a dance: it was a unifying experience that provided healing and
joy at a time when there was little to celebrate.
In the late 1930s, Katherine Dunham had one of the most successful dance careers
in American and European theater of the 20th century and has been called the
Matriarch and Queen Mother of Black Dance , production. One of her early
appearances was in Cabin in the Sky, staged by George Balanchine that ran for 20
weeks in New York, with Dunham in the stunning role of Georgia Brown . Another
famous role as a seductress during this period was the Woman with a Cigar from her
solo role in the revue Shore Excursion. Her sense of rhythm, theater and costuming,
as well as her choreography and dancing, put serious African American vernacular
dance on the map once and for all.

Once upon a time, there was a horrible debt in France, so Louis XVI called for the

different groups . The first group was made up of the Roman Catholic priests. The
second group was for nobility. And finally, the third group represented everybody else
in the French kingdom. Though the Estates General didn t turn out so well due to

The Pros And Cons Of The British Empire
Did you know that the British Empire, the most extensive empire in world history,
ruled approximately 1/4 of the world s population and covered about 1/4 of Earth s
total land area which explained how and why Britain was gaining so much power?
It s recognizable that Britain only gains global power because the advantages of
regional issues in Europesuch as trading, compromising and finances. During the 18
century, Britain and France fought many battles causing issues to Europes people
leaving them with nothing and nothing to look to, But today you cannot tell they
were enemies. The other countries in Europe had a disadvantage to these three
things so they lacked the skills of gaining power so if they are lacking the skill it
shows them that they didn t have enough power to challenge Britain. Britain had

Finances was another reason why Britain had global power when Britain had the
chance to get or earn money they did. For example, when Britain made the Bengali
government pay for paying military expenses and war transportation, This gave
them much more of a reputation. When Britain agreed to MirJafar paying the
troops if he needed them again for war showed that Britain got what they wanted
and forced them to get what they needed, The British also had help when Spain
taxed the Spanish colonist to sell goods. The reason the British needed the
products to be taxed was so they could gain higher profits and power, by them
making a higher profit allowed them to get things they needed for war. The reason
Britain has so much money is that they made allies with people and made
compromises, Britain did a trade for trade that guaranteed they wouldn t have to pay
for the war. This caused Britain to gain the most power and control europe by doing
things that involved selling and fighting to show that they are the big team and will

Essay on James Baldwin

February 10, 2012 James A. Baldwin
James A. Baldwin, a homosexual African American novelist, was once quoted
saying that the most dangerous creation of any society is the man who has nothing
to lose. What it means is that society s chief concern should be a person who has
absolutely nothing to lose by always sticking to their beliefs, yet everything to gain.
James Baldwin embodies that quote to the absolute fullest. Not only did he push the
boundaries with his works in novels and articles on racial and sexual matters, but he
also was a key component in the civil rights movement and that s why James Baldwin

The novel resembles Baldwin s childhood a lot based on the fact that the novels
central theme is about a young man named John Grimes who is the innocent victim
of his father, a religious man steeped in disgust and narrowness. It relates to
Baldwin s childhood because he was the innocent victim of a father whom was
religious and had a lot of hatred as well. It s a milestone in the development of
American literature because it is the first novel and/or short story about Negroes to
be written from a non racial point of view.
Shortly after publishing his first novel, Baldwin would go on to receive a
Guggenheim fellowship. In 1956 he would publish his second novel Giovanni s
Room. Giovanni s Room fired up a lot of controversy because of the explicit
amount of homoerotic content. It also was controversial because he explored
interracial relationships, a very touchy topic at the time. The plot of the novel itself
stems from Baldwin s analysis of the nature and character of homosexuality. Also,
Baldwin was able to connect with a wider audience because too much of the public
s surprise Giovanni s Room was primarily about white people, not African
Americans. He was also making references to himself in this novel because the main
character was living in Paris. Baldwin s next two novels, Another Country and Tell

Advocate Illinois Masonic And The Chicago Union Hospital
Advocate Illinois Masonic has a rich history in how it became the hospital it is
today. Before it was called Illinois Masonic, it was the Chicago Union Hospital. The
Union Hospital was organized during the time of rebuilding post the great Chicago
fire in 1901. Belden Avenue Baptist Church Steadfast Sunday School organized the
union hospital. Amongst the board members of the hospital where some Masons who
formed an association for the purpose of providing free medical and surgical
treatment for master masons, members of the Eastern Star, and members of their
families. In 1921 the Illinois Masonic Hospital Association purchased Chicago Union
Hospital.
Advocate Illinois Masonic is a 408 bed Level I trauma center teaching hospital.
Although the hospital isn t attached to a university, it plays host to 200 residents and
500 students. The HIM department rests on the first floor and basement. The
department has close to 40 employees. At this particular facility the morgue is under

Gender Differences Of Short-Term Memory
In the past, numerous psychologists have conducted studies on short term memory.
George Miller, in his experiments, (as cited in Weiten, 2013) discovered that humans
can hold 7 items, plus or minus 2 items, in their short term memory. Psychologists
after Miller such as Cowan conducted experiments as well as believe that this
number is actually 4, plus or minus 1. Cowan believed that the reason Miller came up
with the number 7 was because he did not account for chunking in his experiment
(Cowan, 2010). Researchers at Harvard University conducted a study which led to
evidence stating that there is a limit on how much information that can be held in the
short term memoryof humans and that the amount of items stored in short term

The same pattern occurred in the visual section as well. For example,
This experiment controlled for various possible confounding variables. However,
one factor that was not taken into consideration was that in the sophomore class
itself, there are students of various ages. As seen in Appendix I, the ages of the
participants ranged from 15 to 17 years old. Theoretically, the participants who are
older would have a more developed brain and may possibly be able to hold
information more effectively in their short term memory. Another factor that may
have had an impact on the results was that while the participants were partaking in
this experiment, a movie was playing in the background. The reason for this was that
a class was occurring at the time of the experiment. This background noise may have
distracted the participants and may have led to the results not being as accurate. In
future replications of this experiment, it would be beneficial to conduct the
experiment in a quiet room with no background noise and make sure that all of the
participants are of the same age.
Another improvement that can be done for future replications is that there should be
less time to try and remember the words. Many participants were able remember all
of the words that they could in less than two minutes and they were waiting around
restlessly for the rest of the allotted

Dorothea Lange Research Paper
For my second extra credit, I watched a documentary on the life and work on
Dorothea Lange, someone who, opposite Ansel Adams, intended her work to be
documentary and send a message. Two major events shaped Dorothea Lange as a
young women. One of those, was childhood polio, that caused her to have a
partially paralyzed leg and limp. This would bother her for the rest of her life, saying
that her limp effected everything she did. Lange stated, I think it perhaps was the
most important thing that happened to me. It formed me, guided me, instructed me,
helped me, and humiliated me. All those things at once. I ve never gotten over it, and
I am aware of the force and the power of it. The second event was her fathers
unannounced desertion when she was twelve. Soon after, her motherchanged both of

Dorothea would be contacted by a professor who said that they had a grant from
the state of California to investigate agricultural labor, and he wanted Visual

through photographs and captions the life and daily struggles of migrant
agricultural workers. Her photographs helped to raise funds for these workers and
their families by being published in newspapers and requesting donations. Many of
her photos were set up so the families would appear as in despair and desperate as
possible. By doing this, it maximized the emotion felt by the photographs viewers.
Dorothea Lange was one of the most influential people of the Great Depression, and
her work helped to spur the America s war on poverty and
Conclusion On Oceanography
CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.The term given to the study of oceans and seas
is called oceanography or oceanology. As an organized science, oceanography is
comparatively new, but men have been familiar with the seas from time
immemorial. The earliest human settlements were on the banks of large rivers. The
Tigris, the Euphrates, the Nile and the Indus were witnesses to early human
civilizations. The people living on the river banks soon discovered the immense
expanse of the oceans, for all the streams and rivers of the land invariably flowed to
their natural destination the seas and the oceans. This led to the establishment of
human civilizations along the seashores as well, particularly in the tropical and
subtropical areas of the world.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Man s early efforts in the conquest of seas were humble. It must have been a great
achievement for early man to reach a nearby island on a piece of log in search of
fresh fruits and nuts. It must also have been a great adventure when some of them
would have settled down on the island in permanent shelters. The inventions and
subsequent application of such devices as traps, hooks, lines and nets for
capturing fish and other forms of marine life were great innovative strides in the
conquest of the seas. Fishing was far less hazardous and much more paying than
hunting animals in wild forests. Living was also definitely more pleasant and safer
near the seashores than in the interior woodlands where dangerous animals
abounded. Man soon learned to engage himself, on regular basis, in fishing and
other maritime occupations. More important, he learned to sail across the seas to
distant lands in search of food and fortune. Timber and bamboo were extensively
used by early man for his uncharted travels in the sea. Sail boats carried early man
to distant lands with the help of sea breezes and thus making the horizons wider for
him as he was no more bound to the land of is birth. He could explore newer lands
and human migrations across once inaccessible seas became a common
Analysis Of Jean Louis Comolli And Jean Narboni s ...
In Jean Louis Comolli and Jean Narboni s essay Cinema/Ideology/Criticism, they put
forward the central argument that film is a commercial product in the capitalist
system and therefore also the unconscious instrument of the dominant ideology which
produces it. In opposition to the classic film theory that applauds camera as an
impartial device to reproduce reality, they argue that what the camera reproduces is
merely a refraction of the prevailing ideology. Therefore, the primary and political
task for filmmakers is to disrupt this replication of the world as self evident and the
function of film criticism is to identify and evaluate that politics. Comolli and
Narboni then suggest seven categories of films confronting ideology in different
ways, among which the second category resists the prevailing ideology on two
levels. Films of this group not only overtly deal with political contents in order to
attack their ideological assimilation (Comolli and Narboni 483), but also achieve their
goal through breaking down the conventional way of depicting reality.
Palindromes (2004), directed by Todd Solondz, to a large degree corresponds to the
category B proposed by Comolli and Narboni. On the level of the signified, namely
the film s content, this black comedy directly tackles the heatedly debated social and
political issues surrounding teen pregnancy and abortion in the United States. When
approaching this controversial subject, the film puts great emphasis on revealing,
British Invasion

The British Invasion The British Music Invasion was one of the most influential time
periods for the development and maturation of a new variation of rock and roll. This
innovating movement was initially inspired by some of America s greatest rock and
blues musicians including: Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Elvis Presley, Eddie
Cochran, Chuck Berry, and so on. The establishment of the British music scene
absorbed and completely reconfigured the traditional instruments, established music
forms, and the same overused lyrics that once belonged to rock and roll. Two different
schools with two different sounds categorize this great time of influence, now known
as the British Invasion. Even though both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, the band, The Searchers, who sang Love Potion NO. Nine , and
Needles and Pins demonstrated their Beatle inspired, softer style of music that held
the same standard of sophistication. Subsequently, the London school responded to
Liverpool s revolutionary rock sound with its own modification of rock and roll
generated from influential, American rhythm and blues bands with a more basic,
raw demeanor. The newer London school was accompanied by a newer sound that
is most often described as a combination of jazz and R B oriented mainstream rock.
With the debut of the Liverpool British Invasion bands, newer bands from London
had more creative freedom and were challenged by overcoming the previous British
bands successes. As the styles of each school developed, the variation between the
two groups also widened. The second wave of British Invasion bands personified a
harder, more aggressive sounding rock and placed a heavy emphasis on rebellious
behavior. With the intention of creating more blues based rock and roll, this second
school deconstructed the stylistic complexities that they once sought after. It is
important to note that the Beatle s strong American following made it difficult for
bands to compete within the same realm of music (Stuessy, 125). The Beatle s
limitless innovation seemed impossible to surpass, ultimately inspiring
Essay on Ty Cobb
Ty Cobb
Although often overshadowed in baseball history by Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb is
considered by many sports enthusiasts to be the greatest player to ever play the
game of baseball. Tyrus Raymond Cobb, was born December 18, 1886 in Banks
County in Narrows, Georgia. He quickly gained much notoriety for his great skill in
baseball and eventually earned a position with the Detroit Tigers at the age of
nineteen, after playing for several semi pro and Sally league teams. Cobb compiled
twelve batting titles, a .367 career average, and totaled 4191 hits (second all time) in
a career that spanned twenty two years (1905 1928). With these and other superb
achievements, Ty was inducted as the first member of the National Baseball Hall of

Young Ty decided to defy his father s future plans for him and try his luck at
becoming a professional baseball player.
There really was no doubt that the unrefined boy could accomplish his dreams
because he was such a hard worker. Cobb had to call up his resolute father and
convince him of leaving Georgia to try out for a semi pro team in Anniston, Alabama.
With this approval and ultimatum for success from a man that Ty admired so greatly,
he seemingly needed no more motivation and determination to achieve his dream of
playing in the major leagues. But, Ty Cobb would receive much more cause to excel.
Unfortunately, the motivation would stem from the murder of his role model, W.H.
Worsening the fact that Ty lost a great friend and role model was that his mother
was accused of committing the crime. As the story goes, rumors spread around town
about the infidelity of Amanda Cobb. W.H. devised a plan to spy on Amanda during
one night when he said he would be out of town on business. W.H. climbed on the
roof of the house and through an upper level window into Amanda s bedroom.
Supposedly, it was there where Amanda shot Mr. Cobb.
Nevertheless, Amanda was later acquited, but the loss of his father formed in Cobb
a sense of urgency and purpose to his life. After this tragic misfortune, Cobb began
playing baseball with a hellbent attitude. Cobb would not take no for an

Early Challenges
The start up however was not without its challenges. The original plan had
anticipated that the Crystal Harmony would sail between the Orient and Alaska, but
due to political troubles, the Asian cruises were replaced with European cruises
beginning in 1991. Then, weeks after Crystal s first cruise the Gulf War began in the
Middle East. Global tensions forced Crystal to substitute New England/Canada
cruises for the originally planned Mediterranean trips. However, by far, the biggest
challenge came just sixty nine days into business when the Crystal Harmony
suffered an auxiliary engine room fire. As the damaged ship proceeded at slow speed

way back to the United States. When the ship reached port, Rodney and his team

The Importance Of Government Censorship
In the last decade, social media has evolved into the preeminent allocation of insight
the pumping heart that keeps the citizens awareness alive. It is not the only form of
communication, however it has become a fundamental method to present our
thoughts, ideas, beliefs, and opinions to the masses. It has become a necessity in
American society to use media sites such as Facebook and Twitter to instantaneously
access or send information. When content is blacklisted, a stranglehold is entrenched
upon our ability to proactively communicate throughout our civilization. Similarly,
when ideas are censored, our ability to progress as a society and as a nation is
hindered. Censorshiphas been commonly employed by other governments in the past
as a method to influence the way a people may think about or view a topic.
Ultimately, overly aggressive government censorship of social media exposes the
liability of encroaching upon civil rights.
Although there is an ongoing battle for what amount of censorship media sources
should enforce, there are laws that are already in effect such as the Child Internet
Protection Act, which aims to protect children from explicit material, and the
Freedom Act, intended to prevent the government from accessing huge amounts of
information that is found in record files. These laws are put in place to eliminate any
sort of overreach from the government because it was going against civil rights. This
discussion of censorship developed further during an

How A Midamerica Airport As A Low Cost Alternative
How to Brand MidAmerica Airport as a Low Cost Alternative to Lambert St. Louis
International James C. McElwee POLS312: State, Local, and Community Politics
January 30, 2016 Built in 1997 as the solution to relieve the once congested Lambert
St. Louis International Airport, MidAmerica Airport in St. Clair County, sits quiet
and empty. The airport has everything its big brother has 25 miles away in St. Louis,
everything except passengers. With 38.6 million potential passengers within in a 300
mile radius, it s unknown what members of the St. Clair County Public Building
Commission are doing to attract new business to the facility. But with air travel
booming again, passengers are bargain hunting for alternatives to the industry giants
that use Lambert St. Louis International. One solution to this problem would be to
market MidAmerica Airport as the only low cost alternative in the region. This type
of marketing paired with its already low facility charges, could be the answer to
attracting new carriers like Sprit, JetBlue, and Sun Country to the region. To fully
understand how this solution could be implemented, first the history of MidAmerica
Airport must be discussed, next why marketing the facility as the only low cost
alternative in the region should be explored, and finally how to get the governing
body of the facility, the St. Clair County Public Building Commission, to consider the
solution. The idea of MidAmerica is not widely known. There is
Ulcerative Colitis
Introduction: What is Ulcerative Colitis? Just from the name, you can guess that this
disease concerns ulcers. But does this entail anything else? Let us find out in this
article about the disease that still has its causes unverified by the world. Ulcerative
Colitis (UC) is a disease/disorder of the Large intestine. It occurs in the colonand
rectum areas only. When food passes through the Large Intestine, the body s
immune system may mistake the food materials, bacteria, etc as foreign invading
agents and sends White blood cells (WBC) to defend the body. This causes chronic
inflammation and ulceration of the large intestine, which causes severe pain and
discomfort for the patient. This is why this disease falls under the category of
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and is also referred to as an autoimmune disease.
Furthermore, we still don t... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are considered as auto immune disorders and both of them successfully fall
under the criteria of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) but they work in different
areas of the body. Crohn s disease can occur in any part of the Gastro Intestinal Tract
(GIT), while Ulcerative Colitis only affects the colon and rectum of the large
intestine. Again, Crohn s Disease can affect all layers of the bowel while Ulcerative
Colitis, can harm only the linings of the colon. These are the major differences
between them. Conclusion
Though Ulcerative Colitis is not a disease that can cause certain death, but it can
lead to the creation of many other which have high mortality rates. Such as, strokes
and colon cancer. We know that there is bleeding when Ulcerative Colitis occurs.
So, during blood clotting, increased amounts of blood clots also form in the brain
causes strokes. Again, the breaking of the mucus layer in the colon can give rise to
cancerous lesions, which develops to colon cancer later

II.Respect your parents and elders
Respect is the greatest gift children can give to their parents and elders. It is not just
a responsibility to give respect but it is a moral value and duty. In order to get some
respect we should give respect, and parents and elders are the ones who deserve most
of our respect as they help us in making our life meaningful.
Together with many lessons in life, learning to respect people is also one the
important lesson we learn as kids.
Respect can be given in many ways. There is no particular way to respect elders and
parents. But few ways in which you can show your respect towards them are:

Differences and Inequalities That Can be Seen on the...
By comparing two UK streets in differing localities, one can assess differences and
inequalities in the social, economic and cultural spheres. This essay will focus on the
differences and inequalities that exist between Renshaw St, Liverpool, and City Rd,
Wales, by examining road traffic, homelessness and street level economic activity
Renshaw street is perpendicular to the side of Liverpool City Centre, and Liverpool
Lime street is one street away as is the Adelphi Hotel. The road has a collection of
pubs, bars, taxi ranks, clothes shops, music shops, restaurants and also take away.
Whereas City Road contains some take aways, a restaurant, a municipal pub, and
some night clubs.

One can also find guitar, and music shops on the street, as students generally enjoy
playing the guitar when they aren t studying. These serve the local student
community, as well as other members of the public and the clubs, bars, take aways,
are usually exceptionally busy on most days of the week. This is generally
because consumption has never been a necessity , and of course take aways are a
direct example of this, as one could by goods from a store and cook them, it
generally isn t imperative to buy pre cooked food, however due to the culture of
students it is somewhat useful at the end of a night out. In order to increase
consumption the local bars(such as Starbuck s), and some modern pubs offer free
wireless internet in order to attract more of the business and student population and
thus, ideally from a business point of view, increase revenue. Also consumption is
a form of socialisation and most people feel they belong and are a part of
something when they consume (Making Social Lives) which is businesses such as
Starbuck s thrive in student areas/in the inner city where white collar workers work
as generally white collar workers earn a high amount of revenue, and spend it
predominantly on services (Making social lives, page 24)
The roads on Renshaw Street are exceptionally busy; there are several pedestrian

The Effects Of Listening On Different Types Of Music
Title:
Effects of listening to different types of music one week prior to midterm exam on
student s result in a randomized classroom clinical trial
Introduction:
Dating back to 1973 was one of the earliest studies done on music and memory. The
study done by Mowsesian and Heyer involves 15 year old students listening to music
while taking their exam. The researchers found out that music does not have a huge
impact on student s performance (Hallam, Price, Katsarou, 2002). In contrast, there
is also one study done by Fogelson in 1973 which stated there are positive effect of
music while studying on children s exam performance (Bloor, 2009). Therefore,
Hallam suggested that early studies are done poorly and not set up in a practical
framework, this is why the results of the studies produced are not consistent (Hallam,
Price, Katsarou, 2002).
However, there are also several studies in the 20 s century that shown music actually
does improve information retention. One of the studies done involves 13 students
from third grade which are required to study on a vibroacoustic music chair for 23
minutes three times a week for 23 weeks. Before the study starts, student are tested
on their reading and word recognition ability, another similar test is also done
towards the end of the study and the pre and posttest results are being compared. As a
result, the use of vibroacoustic music chair has a positive impact on the student s
reading ability (Carlson, Hoffman, Gray, Thompson,
Economic Sustainability And Economic Development
Sustainable.
Often heard used as a marketing buzzword to boost sales or win votes, it is firmly
ingrained in the contemporary public psyche. A term first largely introduced by the
1987 Brundtland Report (by The World Commission on Environment and
Development) who defined and politicized the term sustainable development ,
sustainability has since taken on numerous connotations.
Ecological sustainability refers to the robustness of our ecosystems and the ability to
maintain or enhance our planet s unique biodiversity.
Economic sustainability is defined by Cato as continued economic development
while not degrading our planet s ecology (Cato, 2011), however not all definitions
accord such a large role to the ecological state of our planet. ... Show more content on

Where environmental problems are concerned, the neoclassical approach does not
account for the market failure that occurs when all individuals are making decisions
to achieve their personal greatest happiness . While theoretically this leads to a
balanced optimum market; exclusivity, non excludability, externalities, imperfect
information, inappropriate government regulations and prisoners dilemma all prevent
the macro economic market from reaching a true pareto optimum (Goodland et. al,
1987) as predicted by the paradigm.
In environmental terms, market failure results in an array of impacts of varying
significance that are often amplified by the globalized macro economy and our planet
s vast social inequity.
For example, an externality such as air pollution may not directly affect the
consumer, but can have adverse impacts on the local environment where the product
was produced. This impact is often not reflected in the market value of the product,
altering marginal cost curve and undermining the possibility of reaching an optimal
market. In addition, the impacts of market failure often disproportionately affect the
poorest communities and amplify social inequity.
The neoclassical paradigm is thus fundamentally
Public Art in the United Arab Emirates
Public art is the art that has been planned to of being staged in public and its
usually outdoor, it can be carved sculpture, cast or built or painted. What s special
about public art is the way how it is made, the place where it is and what meaning it
has behind it. Public art can express community value or describe a cultural related
point, and its placed in public for everyone to see. Public artis a reflection of how the
artistsees the world and response to his time and space. In this essay, I want to review
about how the public art reflects the traditional culture.
As an example of public art in the UAE, is the camel caravan. It is a sculpture of a
camel that is painted with colorful different shapes. There is several camels
caravan located around the place, and each of them has a different unique style. I
believe that public art should be reflective of traditional culture. The camel caravan
also has a reflection on the cultural side that camels are very common and a known
animal in the UAE. Public art strategies help to uncover and enhance the implied
identity, the value, the unique meaning and the character of the social and physical
form of a community or a society, the community s character and sense of space
reflects this identity. The person s sense of space always develops over time while
reflecting the shade of his social values around and within the community. The
character of a community will be reflected by its cultural narrative space of a place.

Analysis Of Titian s The Flaying Of Marsyas
In today s video with Sister Wendy, we learned about some of the greater painters
in the c1500 s of Venice. I was amazed by how much the painters put effort into
adding so much detail; even things that seem pointless in the background matter.
One painter s style and artwork that caught my eye was Titian s The Flaying of
Marsyas. The unique thing Titian did in The Flaying of Marsyas was portray the
different views on what becoming a great artist was, the potential child, the young
man not wanting to look at what risks becoming an artist can mean, and the old man
questioning if he s done enough. This is unique because all viewers can relate to
either one of the four (fourth is of the great and accomplished Marsyas himself)
views. The views
Essay On Alcatraz
The Alcatraz federal prison, located on the San Francisco island of the same name,
was dubbed escape proof during its years of operation from 1934 1963 and was
designed to hold the worst criminals in America (Timeline: Alcatraz Escape
Attempts). During its 29 years, Alcatraz held most prisoners without incident, but
there were still 14 escape attempts (Timeline...Attempts). June 11, 1962 marks one of
the most sensationalized attempts by Frank Morris, John Anglin, and Clarence Anglin
(The Great Escape from Alcatraz). Although officials said the inmates drowned, many
claim they escaped and lived as fugitives (The...Alcatraz). In order to investigate the
aforementioned belief, my group defined a successful escape as getting off Alcatraz,

Anglins, arguing that if Scott could swim across the bay and survive, then Morris
and the Anglins could, too. All the information is credible because it comes from a
local, primary source, The San Francisco Chronicle. However, the source is not
relevant because Scott s attempt was in December, not June like Morris and the

makes the information non applicable and outweighs its credibility because the
connections between Scott s case and Morris and the Anglins case are too
Corrective Action for Disrespecting Higher Ranking...
This essay is on tact, professionalism, respect and disrespect, as part of my
corrective action for disrespecting higher ranking military personal. I will start this
essay off with defining each of the subjects so that the reader may have a full
understanding on what each mean. Tact is the first subject on which I am suppose
to include in this essay, tact is defined as a keen sense of what to say or do to avoid
giving offense; skill in dealing with difficult or delicate situations. The second
definition needed for this essay is on professionalism; professionalism is defined as
professional character, spirit, or methods. Given that there are three main points to
that definition, character is the key phrase to take from that definition for it pertains
more to this essay then spirit or methods. The third definition needed is on respect,
and the most suited definition for respect as it pertains to this essay is, deference to
a right, privilege, privileged position, or someone or something considered to have
certain rights or privileges; proper acceptance or courtesy; acknowledgment. With the
definition of respect given, the last and most important definition is disrespect.
Disrespect is defined as to regard or treat without respect; regard or treat with
contempt or rudeness. Tact in my opinion is the way you handle yourself in situations
that you do not agree with or support. In the military you will face many situations
that you may not understand or agree with and the
Bobbie Ann Mason In Country Essay
The Vietnam War divided the country and led to several americans searching for not
only their identity and morals, but the morals of the nation as a whole. Many people
questioned what good the fighting was for and saw more and more news coverage
about the horrible failures of the War leading to a mistrust in the U.S. government. In
Bobbie Ann Mason s book, In Country: The Story of an American Family, Bobbie
Ann Mason tells a coming of age story about Samantha Hughes who searches for
understanding and meaning in a War that has affected her family and country greatly.
Using dialogue and plot construction, Mason successfully examines the changes in
morality towards violence and war.

information about what exactly Vietnam was like, meanwhile trying to find out
more about her father in the process. Not only is this a coming of age story, but
also one of a loss of innocence. Sam ultimately discovers that the war was viewed in
different ways and had differing effects in the soldiers morals.
One of the key literary elements that Bobbie Ann Mason uses to get across the
meaning of the book is her use of dialogue. Throughout In Country, Mason uses
dialogue between two characters to express their feelings and experiences. In part II

4.What implementation challenges should Twila Day expect and how should she
proceed?
The biggest challenge Twila Day faced is which software modules should be
chosen. There are three options. One option is to purchase the minimum number
of licenses and software components. This option would provide a good start, but
SYSCO would probably need to buy more licenses at a higher price within six
months. The second option is to provide broader access to the business intelligence
information throughout SYSCO. This option would cover SYSCO for the next 9
12 months, but the company would probably need to license additional software in
about a year. The third option was to take advantage of the volume discount that
Business Objects would provide if SYSCO licensed all of the software now that it
planned to use in the next two years. The first option s total charge is 2,535,880
dollars, the second option s charge is 3,074,980 dollars and the third option s
charge is 3,401,020 dollars. How to choose the software module is a big challenge
for Twila Day. The first one cost least in the beginning but may cost more
subsequently. The third one cost most at the beginning and it provide a discount and
no more charge later on but buying too much license may be a waste of money. So
the most important thing Day should pay attendance to be to predict how many
licenses the company will use in the future. The best way for Day to solve this
problem is survey what demand the
McDonaldization in Modern Culture Essay
Today s society and culture is becoming more and more McDonaldized. This paper
will illustrate what the process of McDonaldization is. In addition, this paper will
show how today s society has adapted to this process along with using the theories
from Max Weber. The McDonaldization theory defines the process of which the
principles of the fast food restaurant are coming to dominate more and more sectors
of American society as well as the rest of the world (Ritzer 1). Within
McDonaldizationthere are five different concepts embedded into this theory, which
are efficiency, calculability, predictability, control and lastly irrationality of
rationality. These concepts are not just used in fast food restaurants, but are becoming
more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Calculability expects the customer or worker to do a lot of work, very quickly for
low pay (Ritzer 14). Predictability is the third dimension. Predictability is the idea
of uniformity and knowing what to expect with each outcome (Aldredge, Lectures
on McDonaldization of Society). With having uniformity in a business or process,
this allows the customer or even an employee feel at ease and goes about what is
expected of them. Ritzer gives the example of shopping malls. A person can step off
the plane in Portland or Denver and find the same type of stores in a mall (Ritzer
107). Another dimension of McDonaldization is control. Control is the increased of
nonhuman technology to produce more product or efficiency (Ritzer 115). More and
more nonhuman technology is appearing to control how fast a human can go. In a
drive thru line, the fast food establishment is controlling how long a vehicle can be
in line. A driver pulls up to order food, then drives up to pay for the food, picks up
the food at the next window, and lastly drives off to the next destination (Ritzer 125).
The last element of McDonaldization is the irrationality of rationality. Any rational
system will eventually spawn irrationalities that compromise or even undermine their
rationality (Ritzer 141). Consumers who try to be efficient are not necessarily saving
money or time. A consumer assumes that driving to a fast food
Leonardo Da Vinci Conflict
Leonardo da Vinci
The noblest pleasure is the joy of understanding. (da Vinci)
This quote shows evidence that Leonardo Da Vinci loved to learn and explore.
This may explain why he chose to follow various fields, such as engineering, art, and
why people called him a jack of all trades, master of none ( Leonardo Da Vinci,
Authors) (also mentioned below). He created many paintings and sketches,
illuminated the world by creating many statues and buildings as well as believing in
the idea of human flight.
Leonardo da Vinci was a talented sculptor, painter, architect, engineer, and scientist.
He was also the illegitimate son of a Florentine (Italian) notary. This means that he
was the child of 2 people that weren t lawfully married. Leonardo s biggest conflict

He also illuminated his personal rules in his household. These included: eat lightly
and only when hungry, chew your food well, avoid medicine and anger, be temperate

made it popular, as well as the human anatomy in multiple dissections, which
unfortunately , were put to a rest when the Pope and the Holy Roman Empire found
out about the dissections da Vinci conducted.
Iron rusts from disuse; stagnant water loses its purity and in cold weather becomes
frozen; even so does inaction sap the vigor of the mind. (da Vinci)
Leonardo designed and experimented many in many fields of science and art. For
example, the anatomy, engineering, and the Renaissance style of art. Leonardo da
Vinci innovated a way to follow many fields of science all at once as well as artistry.
He created many engineering designs, paintings, and architectural designs. Leonardo
illuminated the workings of the anatomy, made the Renaissance style of art popular,

Poverty In African America
The disproportionate rates of poverty among African americans has continued to be
a persistent social problem that the United States faces. The purpose of this article is
to examine how poverty has been approached in the media, specifically on the
opinion pages of American newspaper. Poverty is often explained in three different
ways. The first explanation is blaming the person for ending up in poverty. As people
often associate poverty with a lack of responsibility and it has also been noted that
poverty is blamed on the poor when raceis involved. As the media shows the poor are
frequently the minorities and the African Americans, even though most welfare
recipients are white. The next explanation is the culture of poverty theory. The
founder of this theory has said even... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

342 article pieces. Some key coded factors were culture of poverty, the government,
economic or structural inequality and blaming the individual for being poor. Also
coding for social categories counted to poverty such as african americans, children,
immigrants, and the elderly. The coding was very simple and straight to the point. If
the article talked about poverty in any way the coding would mentation a connection.
The coding was used to point what opinion pieces had to say about race and poverty.
The final result concluded 52 percent held the government responsible, 16 percent
said the government did to much with helping the poor. Putting the blame on the
culture of poverty occurred 35 percent, children mentioned as the poor came in at 55
percent and finally blaming poor individuals was mentioned 21 percent of the time. It

  • 2. Haile Selassie King of Kings, Conquering Lion of the... Haile Selassie King of Kings, Conquering Lion of the tribe of Judah When Ras Tafari Makonnen took the imperial throne in Ethiopia in 1930 as Haile Selassie I, a new movement was born in Jamaica. The crowning of a Black King? Was this not what Marcus Garvey told his Jamaican followers fifteen years earlier when he said Look to Africa for the crowning of a Black King; he shall be the Redeemer (BARRETT 8 1)? Selassie would prove to be one of Ethiopia s most noble leaders. He pushed education for his people. He made a valiant effort to drag Ethiopia out of its stagnant state of unpaved roads, minimal schools, very little education and no say in international affairs. He looked and carried himself like a king. The Ethiopian Emperor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This only added to the Jamaicans belief that he was their savior. Whether or not he was the second coming, Christ himself or just related to Christ through his heritage. Haile Selassie was not the infallible savior that these people saw from their island in the Caribbean, however. As true with most governments and monarchies, Selassie s government had its deal of corruption. Although they placed their faith in a noble King, the Jamaicans were disillusioned about the man they believed to be their savior. The old Ethiopian legend of the Kebra Negast tells the story of the Queen of Sheba s visit to Solomon s mighty kingdom to learn the secrets of being a great leader. While in his kingdom the Queen of Sheba bore Solomon a son, to which Solomon gave a jeweled ring to prove his descent from the seed of David. The Queen of Sheba returned to her land in, then southern Ethiopia, what is today Somalia, with her son to continue to rule the land (GORHAM 9). Between two hundred and three hundred kings are believed to have ruled between the time of Solomon and Haile Selassie, the last emperor of Ethiopia. Believed to have been descended from the seed of David, Tafari Makonnen was born July 23, 1892 in the city of Harar in the eastern province of Harege (KALEIDOSCOPE). His mother died two years after his birth, and shortly after that his country was engaged in a war with the Italians. The Ethiopian army
  • 3. The Perception Of The Human Sciences Each of us are different in many ways and that fact cannot possible be disputed by anyone who has any back ground in the human sciences, as it has been scientifically proven that we all have unique finger prints, DNA, hair, looks, behavior and facial expressions and the combination of these things make us unique personality types so to speak. We also function from two different perspectives and we need to understand how each one of us functions. We each like to think that we are special (which we are) and in that portrayal system, we mostly portray what we perceive we want people to think about us. On the other side of the coin we have a reality in what we truly believe about ourselves and the way we feel inwardly. Many of us become disillusioned with our true inner picture, simple because of a misunderstanding of our personal purpose in life. The fact that we allow this dissatisfaction to creep into our lives, we create an inner insecurity within ourselves and we then start looking at others or alternatively we start behaving like others, which is completely outside our true personality, thereby attempting to look different, behave different, think different, dress different and when looking at our big picture, become dissatisfied with our true personality, allowing society to name us as a personality type which is definitely going to influence our level to be successful in life. Society has made us believe that we need to conform to a standard of behavior, which then
  • 4. I Am A Baseball Field Everybody has a special place that means so much to them every time the set foot there. My special place just so happens to be a baseball field. It doesn t necessarily have to be a particular field, it s just that every time I set foot on one I think of all the memories made when playing the game and of all the friends I have made because of it. I have been playing baseballfor practically my entire life and along the way have learned a lot of life lessons because of it. A few fields that specifically stand out to me are Cooperstown Dreams Park and Wenatchee Valley College baseball field . A baseball field is very unique. The smell of the fresh cut grass on game day and the feeling of the dirt under your cleats are something only baseball players can describe. Every time I set foot on the field for a game, it always feels like the first time with the pre game jitters and adrenaline rush of the first pitch. Going to a baseball field at any level from little league or to a professional game, I just love to take in all of the excitement and fun while enjoying every playmade because baseball is easily the greatest game ever invented. A baseball field isn t necessarily loud like a football game, but it is also relaxing to where you can sit and enjoy the weather and enjoy conversing with whoever you are there with all while watching a great game played by kids or adults. That s the atmosphere that I like, and that s another reason a baseball field is my place of comfort.
  • 5. Adagio Plucking The beginning of the piece starts at a mezzo forte and varied a little. The string instruments had the melody most of the time. The mood of the section was calm with the approach of danger. It was sneaking up on unsuspecting people. It made me feel like I was experiencing the aftermath of Star Wars. Even if they had won the dark side would always come back. In Adagio, the tempo picked up to match a vivace feel. It had the mood of anticipation. Quite like knowing that a battle must be fought but there is no idea as to when, but they ll still be prepared. The melody repeated a lot with different alterations. Moderato used plucking to enhance the sound. The flutes and cellos created a deeper sound of peace. The plucking was at a moderate tempo
  • 6. Decision Making And The Prospect Theory Introduction Decision making is the act of choosing the best solution to a problem depending on its value and the preferences of the decision maker. In the first part of this essay, we will explore the Expected Utility theory and the Prospect Theory, which are normative and descriptive approaches to making decisions with inherent risks. The first part of the essay argues that Expected Utility Theory is a less viable hypothesis to decision making and is fundamentally flawed compared to the Prospect Theory in description and function. Prospect theory is a better model for decision making because firstly, decisions are not often made objectively and can be affected by decision weights. Secondly, individuals are not risk averse as suggested by the utility theory, but are instead loss averse. Lastly, individuals evaluate decisions not by their final resting utility, but instead they react dependently based on their reference point. The second part of the essay will delve into the topic of heuristics that emerge in investment decision making. The main biases that investors make include disposition effect, anchoring and adjustments bias and overconfidence. Part 1. Expected utility theory states what rational decision makers should do in order to maximise their utility. On the other hand, Prospect Theory describes how individuals make decisions when faced with perceived risk and uncertainty. Utility can be explained by how much an individual values an extra unit of wealth.
  • 7. The Roman Triumphs Analysis In Mary Beard s book, The Roman Triumph, she explores one of the most interesting victory celebrations of the ancient world. Instead of having a small gathering, or even a raucous party, Romans brought what they had seized and carted it through the city. They even brought some people they had captured so that the crowd could know exactly who they triumphed against. This celebration gives historians a view into the Romans lifestyle. Roman triumphs also show what values were important to the Romans and where they found their significance. Using Mary Beard s book I will demonstrate the nature of Roman triumphs by giving examples from Pompey s triumph in 61BC, what these triumphs tell historians about the Roman world and why they are significant, and what they tell us about the values the Romans held dear. Triumphs were a very distinguished ceremony in Ancient Roman culture. Receiving a triumph was considered a great honour for Roman generals. They generals would get drawn in a chariot. The plunder he had won would follow him, as well as people he had taken captive. The general s troops would also follow him through the streets until he arrived at the Temple of Jupiter where he offered a sacrifice to the god. Throughout modern history, many rulers looked back at Romeat how they celebrated their victories. Other monarchs, dynasts, and autocrats wanted to celebrate as the Romans did. Even Napoleon imitated a Roman triumph when he carried what he had taken

As a matter of fact, those individuals with damaging thoughts are the ones that watch and produce pornography. Additionally, exposure to obscene material correlates with increased rapes, prostitution, child molestation, violent crime, the abuse of women, and sex addiction in men (Hacker 5). Many of these correlations are a result of ideas that pornography planted in minds. Pornography alone does not cause people to commit a sexual crime, but it affects minds enough to influence people to act in an unethical way. Censoring the internet would also protect the minds of citizens from corrupt propaganda. Propaganda that is placed by the government is generally misleading and discourages deep thinking. An example is Obama s campaign in 2008. People loved [Obama s campaign], but many did not understand what type of change he was talking about. Such propaganda stirred passions and made people feel good, but it did not allow people to think critically about the issues. Rather, Obama smartly played off anti incumbent sentiment that was sweeping the nation (Snowball 71). Other times, the government will place propaganda on the internet to influence citizens to take a certain action. According to John Turner, voters are being misled by the propaganda of think tanks and the Coalition. Propaganda serves as part of government coercion. The propaganda seems to be an encouragement of action,
  • 9. Marxist Theory And Social Class In contemporary Western societies, there is a social division due to stratification and classes. Strydom (2005) defines social class as group of individuals that share similarities like power and prestige. Saunders (2001) states that stratification is the presence of distinct social groups which are ranked. Therefore, the major difference is that stratification shows diversity while social classes defines an inequality. In Marxist theories, society is divided between two classes, and social stratification is the conflict between them. To illustrate this, China has faced communism for over a decade, in which has caused major social inequalities within the society. In fact, China is one of the few countries that the forces of communism and capitalism are involved. In this essay,it will describe the main idea of Marxist theory and other theories about social class, then make an assessment of the use of Marxist theory in today s world. The ruling class are those who own the means of production distribution and exchange, they also called the Bourgeoisie, but the subject class is those who must sell their labour in the market place in order to live, they could be called the Proletariat. Marx believed that the Bourgeoisie and the Proletariat was in permanent opposition, the bourgeoisie exploits the proletariat as the wages workers receive for their labour is a fraction of the market value of the

  • 16. Empathy In The Grapes Of Wrath Empathy is vital to trust but what if that understanding is absent, or if sympathy is not given as needed? Such is the case of The Grapes of Wrath, where class differences rule over a turbulent and aggressive rivalry. The novel follows the struggling lower class, oppressed by the corrupt upper class, who cannot understand their hardships. This lack of understanding and willingness to sympathize with the lower class boosts tensions and further emphasizes differences between the classes, leading to the primary conflicts of the story. Through the use of juxtaposition and point of view in his novel, The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeckshows that the upper class lacks the empathy to relate to the struggles of the lower class. Characters in The Grapes of Wrath are often contrasted to emphasize certain qualities in their relationships, the most notable being a lack of empathy versus a caring and generous nature. Steinbeck s use of juxtaposition is key to understanding the significance of the contrast involving the landowners and the migrants and why they cannot share sympathies and opinions. These two groups are both rivals and continuously reinforce differences in their lifestyles, and such is the case for the landowners and migrants, which are two drastically different classes that will not cooperate. The migrants are searching for job opportunities and safe places, but are often cheated by the landowners, who are corrupted by their drive for cheap labor and, ultimately, riches,

  • 19. Karl Marx And Max Weber In the modern world, what are the sources of class struggle? Is there/are there class struggles and classes that are primary, and if so, what? Do these class struggles inevitably lead to revolution? Karl Marx (1818 1883) and Max Weber (1864 1920), both social scientists, dedicated much of their time and work towards the common goal of interpreting the causes and effects of capitalism. They did this by creating a sense of understanding (not only for themselves but for others as well) in regards to capitalism s construction, foundation, mechanism, and its future. In their assessments of capitalism, both Marx and Weber appear to have two different conclusions based on comparable as well as noticeably dissimilar factors. As a result of Marx and Weber s different approaches, in regards to capitalism, both of their understandings and beliefs of the causes, effects and the future of capitalism and class struggle share certain ideas however, part in others. Marx s conception of history and society s future is illustrated through constant class struggle. In fact, Marx s sociology is more often than not called The sociology of class conflict (Priya, 2015). The idea of class struggle or conflict surfaces from the concept of materialism (or greediness) throughout history and constant surplus value. Surplus value is the difference between a worker s wages (also known as exchange value) and the value of goods and services he or she produces (also known as use value)

Psychologists after Miller such as Cowan conducted experiments as well as believe that this number is actually 4, plus or minus 1. Theoretically, the participants who are older would have a more developed brain and may possibly be able to hold information more effectively in their short term memory. Another factor that may have had an impact on the results was that while the participants were partaking in this experiment, a movie was playing in the background. The reason for this was that a class was occurring at the time of the experiment. This background noise may have distracted the participants and may have led to the results not being as accurate. In future replications of this experiment, it would be beneficial to conduct the experiment in a quiet room with no background noise and make sure that all of the participants are of the same age. Another improvement that can be done for future replications is that there should be less time to try and remember the words. Many participants were able remember all of the words that they could in less than two minutes and they were waiting around restlessly for the rest of the allotted

Two major events shaped Dorothea Lange as a young women. One of those, was childhood polio, that caused her to have a partially paralyzed leg and limp. This would bother her for the rest of her life, saying that her limp effected everything she did. Lange stated, I think it perhaps was the most important thing that happened to me. It formed me, guided me, instructed me, helped me, and humiliated me. All those things at once. I ve never gotten over it, and I am aware of the force and the power of it. • 30. Conclusion On Oceanography CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.The term given to the study of oceans and seas is called oceanography or oceanology. As an organized science, oceanography is comparatively new, but men have been familiar with the seas from time immemorial. The earliest human settlements were on the banks of large rivers. The Tigris, the Euphrates, the Nile and the Indus were witnesses to early human civilizations. The people living on the river banks soon discovered the immense expanse of the oceans, for all the streams and rivers of the land invariably flowed to their natural destination the seas and the oceans. This led to the establishment of human civilizations along the seashores as well, particularly in the tropical and subtropical areas of the world.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Man s early efforts in the conquest of seas were humble. It must have been a great achievement for early man to reach a nearby island on a piece of log in search of fresh fruits and nuts. It must also have been a great adventure when some of them would have settled down on the island in permanent shelters. The inventions and subsequent application of such devices as traps, hooks, lines and nets for capturing fish and other forms of marine life were great innovative strides in the conquest of the seas. Fishing was far less hazardous and much more paying than hunting animals in wild forests. Living was also definitely more pleasant and safer near the seashores than in the interior woodlands where dangerous animals abounded. Man soon learned to engage himself, on regular basis, in fishing and other maritime occupations. More important, he learned to sail across the seas to distant lands in search of food and fortune. Timber and bamboo were extensively used by early man for his uncharted travels in the sea. Sail boats carried early man to distant lands with the help of sea breezes and thus making the horizons wider for him as he was no more bound to the land of is birth. He could explore newer lands and human migrations across once inaccessible seas became a common
  • 31. Analysis Of Jean Louis Comolli And Jean Narboni s ... In Jean Louis Comolli and Jean Narboni s essay Cinema/Ideology/Criticism, they put forward the central argument that film is a commercial product in the capitalist system and therefore also the unconscious instrument of the dominant ideology which produces it. In opposition to the classic film theory that applauds camera as an impartial device to reproduce reality, they argue that what the camera reproduces is merely a refraction of the prevailing ideology. Therefore, the primary and political task for filmmakers is to disrupt this replication of the world as self evident and the function of film criticism is to identify and evaluate that politics. Comolli and Narboni then suggest seven categories of films confronting ideology in different ways, among which the second category resists the prevailing ideology on two levels. Films of this group not only overtly deal with political contents in order to attack their ideological assimilation (Comolli and Narboni 483), but also achieve their goal through breaking down the conventional way of depicting reality. Palindromes (2004), directed by Todd Solondz, to a large degree corresponds to the category B proposed by Comolli and Narboni. On the level of the signified, namely the film s content, this black comedy directly tackles the heatedly debated social and political issues surrounding teen pregnancy and abortion in the United States. When approaching this controversial subject, the film puts great emphasis on revealing,

British Invasion Mike Clement MUS 245 21 March 2011 The British Invasion The British Music Invasion was one of the most influential time periods for the development and maturation of a new variation of rock and roll. This innovating movement was initially inspired by some of America s greatest rock and blues musicians including: Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Elvis Presley, Eddie Cochran, Chuck Berry, and so on. Moreover, the band, The Searchers, who sang Love Potion NO. Nine , and Needles and Pins demonstrated their Beatle inspired, softer style of music that held the same standard of sophistication. Subsequently, the London school responded to Liverpool s revolutionary rock sound with its own modification of rock and roll generated from influential, American rhythm and blues bands with a more basic, raw demeanor. The newer London school was accompanied by a newer sound that is most often described as a combination of jazz and R B oriented mainstream rock. With the debut of the Liverpool British Invasion bands, newer bands from London had more creative freedom and were challenged by overcoming the previous British bands successes. As the styles of each school developed, the variation between the two groups also widened. The second wave of British Invasion bands personified a harder, more aggressive sounding rock and placed a heavy emphasis on rebellious behavior. With the intention of creating more blues based rock and roll, this second school deconstructed the stylistic complexities that they once sought after. It is important to note that the Beatle s strong American following made it difficult for bands to compete within the same realm of music (Stuessy, 125). The Beatle s limitless innovation seemed impossible to surpass, ultimately inspiring

He quickly gained much notoriety for his great skill in baseball and eventually earned a position with the Detroit Tigers at the age of nineteen, after playing for several semi pro and Sally league teams. Cobb compiled twelve batting titles, a .367 career average, and totaled 4191 hits (second all time) in a career that spanned twenty two years (1905 1928). With this approval and ultimatum for success from a man that Ty admired so greatly, he seemingly needed no more motivation and determination to achieve his dream of playing in the major leagues. But, Ty Cobb would receive much more cause to excel. Unfortunately, the motivation would stem from the murder of his role model, W.H. Nevertheless, Amanda was later acquited, but the loss of his father formed in Cobb a sense of urgency and purpose to his life. After this tragic misfortune, Cobb began playing baseball with a hellbent attitude. Cobb would not take no for an

It is not the only form of communication, however it has become a fundamental method to present our thoughts, ideas, beliefs, and opinions to the masses. It has become a necessity in American society to use media sites such as Facebook and Twitter to instantaneously access or send information. When content is blacklisted, a stranglehold is entrenched upon our ability to proactively communicate throughout our civilization. Similarly, when ideas are censored, our ability to progress as a society and as a nation is hindered. Ultimately, overly aggressive government censorship of social media exposes the liability of encroaching upon civil rights. Although there is an ongoing battle for what amount of censorship media sources should enforce, there are laws that are already in effect such as the Child Internet Protection Act, which aims to protect children from explicit material, and the Freedom Act, intended to prevent the government from accessing huge amounts of information that is found in record files. This type of marketing paired with its already low facility charges, could be the answer to attracting new carriers like Sprit, JetBlue, and Sun Country to the region. To fully understand how this solution could be implemented, first the history of MidAmerica Airport must be discussed, next why marketing the facility as the only low cost alternative in the region should be explored, and finally how to get the governing body of the facility, the St. Clair County Public Building Commission, to consider the solution. The idea of MidAmerica is not widely known. There is

The study done by Mowsesian and Heyer involves 15 year old students listening to music while taking their exam. In environmental terms, market failure results in an array of impacts of varying significance that are often amplified by the globalized macro economy and our planet s vast social inequity. The publication used Scott s case to apply it to that of Morris and the Anglins, arguing that if Scott could swim across the bay and survive, then Morris and the Anglins could, too. All the information is credible because it comes from a local, primary source, The San Francisco Chronicle. However, the source is not relevant because Scott s attempt was in December, not June like Morris and the Anglins, and this change in time would affect weather conditions between cases (The...Alcatraz). Additionally, San Francisco police apprehended Scott once he reached Fort Point, so he did not fit under our group s definition of a successful escape (10 Things You May Not Know About Alcatraz). This lack of relevance makes the information non applicable and outweighs its credibility because the connections between Scott s case and Morris and the Anglins case are too

Tact is the first subject on which I am suppose to include in this essay, tact is defined as a keen sense of what to say or do to avoid giving offense; skill in dealing with difficult or delicate situations. The second definition needed for this essay is on professionalism; professionalism is defined as professional character, spirit, or methods. Given that there are three main points to that definition, character is the key phrase to take from that definition for it pertains more to this essay then spirit or methods. The third definition needed is on respect, and the most suited definition for respect as it pertains to this essay is, deference to a right, privilege, privileged position, or someone or something considered to have certain rights or privileges; proper acceptance or courtesy; acknowledgment. With the definition of respect given, the last and most important definition is disrespect. Disrespect is defined as to regard or treat without respect; regard or treat with contempt or rudeness. Tact in my opinion is the way you handle yourself in situations that you do not agree with or support. In the military you will face many situations that you may not understand or agree with and the

The biggest challenge Twila Day faced is which software modules should be chosen. There are three options. One option is to purchase the minimum number of licenses and software components. This option would provide a good start, but SYSCO would probably need to buy more licenses at a higher price within six months. The second option is to provide broader access to the business intelligence information throughout SYSCO. This option would cover SYSCO for the next 9 12 months, but the company would probably need to license additional software in about a year. The third option was to take advantage of the volume discount that Business Objects would provide if SYSCO licensed all of the software now that it planned to use in the next two years. The first option s total charge is 2,535,880 dollars, the second option s charge is 3,074,980 dollars and the third option s charge is 3,401,020 dollars. How to choose the software module is a big challenge for Twila Day. The first one cost least in the beginning but may cost more subsequently. The third one cost most at the beginning and it provide a discount and no more charge later on but buying too much license may be a waste of money. So the most important thing Day should pay attendance to be to predict how many licenses the company will use in the future. The best way for Day to solve this problem is survey what demand the
  • 52. McDonaldization in Modern Culture Essay Today s society and culture is becoming more and more McDonaldized. This paper will illustrate what the process of McDonaldization is. In addition, this paper will show how today s society has adapted to this process along with using the theories from Max Weber. The McDonaldization theory defines the process of which the principles of the fast food restaurant are coming to dominate more and more sectors of American society as well as the rest of the world (Ritzer 1). Within McDonaldizationthere are five different concepts embedded into this theory, which are efficiency, calculability, predictability, control and lastly irrationality of rationality. These concepts are not just used in fast food restaurants, but are becoming more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Calculability expects the customer or worker to do a lot of work, very quickly for low pay (Ritzer 14). Predictability is the third dimension. Predictability is the idea of uniformity and knowing what to expect with each outcome (Aldredge, Lectures on McDonaldization of Society). With having uniformity in a business or process, this allows the customer or even an employee feel at ease and goes about what is expected of them. Ritzer gives the example of shopping malls. A person can step off the plane in Portland or Denver and find the same type of stores in a mall (Ritzer 107). Another dimension of McDonaldization is control. Control is the increased of nonhuman technology to produce more product or efficiency (Ritzer 115). More and more nonhuman technology is appearing to control how fast a human can go. In a drive thru line, the fast food establishment is controlling how long a vehicle can be in line. A driver pulls up to order food, then drives up to pay for the food, picks up the food at the next window, and lastly drives off to the next destination (Ritzer 125). The last element of McDonaldization is the irrationality of rationality. Any rational system will eventually spawn irrationalities that compromise or even undermine their rationality (Ritzer 141). Consumers who try to be efficient are not necessarily saving money or time. A consumer assumes that driving to a fast food

This may explain why he chose to follow various fields, such as engineering, art, and why people called him a jack of all trades, master of none ( Leonardo Da Vinci, Authors) (also mentioned below). He created many paintings and sketches, illuminated the world by creating many statues and buildings as well as believing in the idea of human flight. Leonardo da Vinci was a talented sculptor, painter, architect, engineer, and scientist. He was also the illegitimate son of a Florentine (Italian) notary. The purpose of this article is to examine how poverty has been approached in the media, specifically on the opinion pages of American newspaper. Poverty is often explained in three different ways. The first explanation is blaming the person for ending up in poverty. As people often associate poverty with a lack of responsibility and it has also been noted that poverty is blamed on the poor when raceis involved.
