• Formed by a body & 2 rami
• Ligaments Attached to the mandible (4 Ligament)
A) Temporo-mandibular Ligament : from articular eminence
to lat. Surface of the neck
B) Stylo-Mandibular Ligament : from the styloid process to
the post. Border of the angle of mandible.
C) Spheno-Mandibular Ligament : From the spine of the
sphenoid to the lingula
D) Pterygo-mandibular : Pterygoid hammulus to the
mylohyoid line
3. • 2 Nerves Related to Foramina
A)Inferior alveolar nerve : enter the mandibular foramen
and passes through the mandibular canal where it divides
into incisive and mental nerve.
B) Mental Nerve :
Emerges from the mental foramen
• 2 Nerves related to Grooves
• 1-Nerve to Myohyoid : runs forward in the myohyoid
groove
• 2- Lingual nerve : runs forward along the groove on the
med. Aspect of the last molar tooth socket.
4. • 2 Nerves related to the neck of the mandible
1) Masseteric Nerve : Passes Laterally through the
mandibular notch in front of the neck.
2)Auriculo-Temporal : passes backward medial to the neck
of the mandible the upward behind the T.M.J.
• 2 Nerves related to the mandible
• 1) buccal branch of mandibular nerve : descends in front
of the ant. Border of the ramus
• 2)Marginal mandibular branch of the facial nerve :
• Runs forwards on the outer surface of the body
5. • 1)External Carotid artery : divides deep to the neck of the
mandible.
• 2)Inf. Alveolar artery : Enter into the mandibular foramen
• 3)Mental Artery : Emerges from the mental foramen
• 4)Facial artery: Curves around the lower border of
mandible at the antero-inferior angle of masseter muscle
6. • 1) Sublingual Salivary gland : related to the sublingual
fossa
• 2) Submandibular Salivary gland : related to
submandibular fossa
• 3) Parotid Gland : Related to the post. Border of the
ramus
