First Los Angeles Aqueduct
The First Los Angeles Aqueduct:
With the rapid population growth during the year of 1902, Los Angeles had a larger demand of
water than what they could provide and searching for a way to bring water was a must. William
Mulholland, superintendent of the Los Angeles City Water Company, began to search for a new
supply. He started looking on nearby local areas but it generated to nothing. In his search for a new
source, he began by surveying all the rivers and groundwater basins south of the city. He found
groundwater regulated and being used by agriculture. Additional groundwater use would limit the
expansion of the neighboring country, which was the main basis of wealth of the area. Mulholland
concluded Los Angeles would have to look elsewhere. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He found that the Colorado River was the best source. In 1925, the Department of Water and
Power (DWP) was established. Now what came to be called the Colorado River Aqueduct, needed
financing to be accomplished. Voters from the region approved a $2 million bond to perform the
engineering needed for the aqueduct. In 1928, an act of the State Legislature, created the
Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD), and its purpose was to construct the
Colorado River aqueduct to supply water to Southern California. By 1931, voters issued another
bond for $220 million that would start the construction of the aqueduct. By 1941 the aqueduct
was completed stretching 242 miles from the Colorado River to its final holding reservoir near
Riverside, California. The Colorado River Aqueduct consists of more than 90 miles of tunnels,
55 miles of conduit, 30 miles of siphons, five pumping stations, 5 treatment plants, and 9
reservoirs. All of this can supply about 1.2 million acre feet of water every year, which is more
than a billion gallons a day. This caused phenomenal growth of Los Angeles, San Diego and
neighboring areas. The aqueduct is capable of lifting more than 1600 cfs to a static height of
1600 feet as it takes a path through mountains and deserts. Upon the completion of the Colorado
River Aqueduct in 1941, the Municipal Water District began to wholesale Colorado River water
to its member agencies. Today those agencies include 14 cities, 12 municipal water districts, and a
county water authority. More than 130 municipalities and many unincorporated areas are served
by this project of the DWP s and Mulholland s vision. Before Mulholland died on July 22, 1935,
he lived to see the inaugurations of the Colorado River Aqueduct and Hoover Dam, constructed in
the spirit of significance he had always

Examples Of Inside The Federalist Paper
Looking into the old governmental policies that helped shape our amazing Constitutional Republic
today, I ve noticed quite a few policies that are still in use today, and for the most part, remain
unchanged. Inside The Federalist Papers, by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay,
are a great way to locate the old governmental policies that are still the same today in America. In
Federalist No. 1, Alexander Hamiltonwrites of the importance and success of the Constitution as
the government. He is very biased throughout the entire essay, but is at least aware of his bias. He
talks about his bias and he forces his opinions on the readers throughout the entire speech. This
discussion of bias actually opened withing and because of this essay and leads the entire Federalist
Papersto be quite biased. However, this bias is not bad and turned out to be very persuasive to the
anti federalists. In Federalist No. 2, written by John Jay, includes much important information about
how the nation needs to be united. He also lets the people supporting the division of the United
States know that their way is not the right way for the country. It would completely weaken and
disarm the country. Jay s message in all of this essay is about the importance of the nation s unity.
This is still very important today and is why the United States of... Show more content on

taxes and the good that they are doing in shaping the nation. He believes that the power to collect
taxes when necessary is extremely important for the governmental success. Recently, someone tried
to pick apart this essay and state that some senators had the power to limit that excessive amount
of spending that the goverment has been up to lately. However, this essay came back into play and
proved that idea wrong. Everything was set back into place because of Hamilton s brilliant

The Canadian Oil Industry s Impact On Canada
A Nation at a Cross Road: The Canadian Oil Industry s Impact on Canada The Overview:
Diverse and multi faceted, the Canadian business market is one of the strongest functioning
mixed market economies in the world. Within the Canadian economy, the oil and gas sector
stands as one of the largest and most influential sectors. The oil and gas industry is unique as it
affects almost every person and sector of the economy worldwide, whether it is through
commodity or material input costs. In Canada, this growing industry could allow for the country
to be the one of the biggest energy producers in the world leading to a massive paradigm shift
globally. The question that has arisen from this shift is whether or not the Canadian oil and gas
industry inclusive of the upstream, and midstream sectors, has a net positive benefit to Canada.
This essay will explore and seek to understand the myriad of issues that this industry faces daily.
The reason this question has to be answered is simple, Canada sits at a very important junction in
its evolution; does it continue to push forward to become an energy superpower or does it let the
environmental conversation win, pushing forward instead with a clean energy agenda? This essay
will hopefully drive this conversation forward. Research and Analysis: Part 1: Canadian Upstream
Sector (Drilling and Production) The first of three pillars that make up the oil and gas industry in
Canada is the upstream sector, which is comprised of

My Experiences After Attending The Practice Of Public...
Reflective Assignment
This paper discusses my experiences after attending the Practice of Public Health Leadership
(PPHL) subject in 2015, reflecting on important lessons learnt, the relevance to my work and the
support required for my improvement.
When I enrolled in this PPHL, I was not sure that I will get the best out of the subject due to
previous experiences of attending theoretical leadership trainings. However, at the end of the
subject, I was challenged, groomed, humbled and inspired as a leader. The subject has helped
more to bring a lot out of myself, stimulated the urge for personal authenticity and an
appreciation of the power of vulnerability in leadership. Through personal interactions with other
students and presenters as well as the group activities, I have realised that the success of the
team depends on recognising each other s strengths and complementing on the weaknesses. In
addition, I have learnt that effective leadership depends on team work, incorporating people
with different skills and abilities. I have learnt the importance of personal reflection and
meditation in leadership. Furthermore, taking time to know myself or who I am, has been one
of the great lessons from this subject. It has enabled me to focus on the roles of a leader instead
of striving to do everything myself as the case before. In addition, learning the skills of gaining
the trust of the people you are leading as well as inspiring them was a remarkable lesson.

The Influence Of Technique
Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Cotto, Austin Trout, Erislandy Lara, Shane Mosley, Amir Khan, and
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr are names that would appear on the resume of a hall of fame veteran on
his way to retirement, yet this resume belongs to a twenty seven year old with years left in the
gas tank. Canelo Alvarez isn t a perfect fighter; he lost against Floyd Mayweather, and people have
criticized some of his recent fights. Nevertheless, he deserves a lot more credit from the boxing
community than he s getting now.
How could a young fighter with a great resume be ranked lower among fans and media than
fighters with less than stellar resumes? Vasyl Lomachenko is a great fighter with a bright future,
but he s ranked higher than Canelo Alvarez on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2014, he decided to take on Erislandy Lara against his team s wishes and common sense. Lara
was a skilled boxer that was feared by most people in the junior middleweight division, but
Alvarez decided to take him on to prove he wasn t afraid to take a step up in competition.
As you all know, that fight didn t help Alvarez in the eyes of the public. He beat Lara in a close
fight, but that wasn t enough for the boxing community. Instead of being applauded for winning
a close fight with someone he could ve easily avoided, the dominant storyline was that Lara was
robbed. Yes, there was the ridiculous 117 111 score, but the fight was close enough for Alvarez to
get the nod. Nevertheless, the boxing community couldn t come to grips with the fact that a close
fight doesn t equal a robbery, so Alvarez didn t get the amount of praise Golovkin got in his recent
close fight with Daniel Jacobs.
The weirdest part of all of this is how the networks and media treat Canelo Alvarez. Alvarez is
one of the biggest pay per view stars in boxing. His fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. drew over 1
million paper view buys, which is almost unheard of outside of Mayweather and Pacquiao. With
numbers like that, you would think it would be in the best interest of boxing to push Canelo
Alvarez as the next all time great. Alvarez brings in more money for HBO than any fighter in their
catalog, yet they don t praise him as much as

Peripheral Route Persuasion
Central route or systematic processing is a route to persuasion that involves one being alert and
considerate of the content of the message. This is conscious processing. For example, hearing a
persuasive message. Is the person motivated and able to process this information presented?
Distractions and knowledge is the two factors that determine if someone can process this
information. It takes high effort to process this information and you will agree or have a
counterargument. When there is a convincing (cogent) argument it produces an agreement. An
example of this in like the one used in or textbook Emily s economic plan makes sense! I ll vote
for Emily! Peripheral route or heuristic processing is a route to persuasion that involves simple

Short Term Cognition
The term cognition refers to all the mental structures and processes involved in reception, storage,
and use of knowledge, which involves the analysis of memory and mind. (Psychology book)
Copious research has been conducted by psychologists on memory and different methods to how to
better recall words. Studies by Atkinson and Shiffrin, Paivio, and Bower accordingly came to the
conclusion that words tied to visual imagery have a stronger chance of being remembered than just
their verbal associations.
According to the multi store model of memory (Atkinson and Shiffrin, 1968) the memory system

This is predicted as studies such as Paivio and Bower who gained results that support this
hypothesis. However, there are some psychologists that see faults in the Dual Code Theory
Paivio proposed, that it is only valid for tests on which people are asked to focus on identifying
how concepts are related (Reed 2010) Therefore it is important to note the null hypothesis: the
number of words recalled by the participants would be less if they use the imagery method then by

The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World
Annotations for: The Statue of Liberty:
1. The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World : was a gift of friendship from the people of
France to the United States and is recognized as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy.
2. Treaty of Peace at Versailles : refers to The Peace of Paris (1783), a set of treaties which ended
the American Revolutionary War. In September 1783, King George III of Great Britain signed a
treaty in Paris with the United States known as the Treaty of Paris (1783) and two treaties at
Versailles with King Louis XVI of France and King Charles III of Spain known as the Treaties of
Versailles (1783).
3. Lafayette: During the American Revolution, French military man Marquis de La Fayette served
under George Washington as a Major General in the Continental Army.
The first article that I examined from Harper s Weekly was titled The Statue of Liberty. The
Statue of Liberty was a gift to the United States from the people of France. In the early 1880s,
French citizens raised money to present to the United States Liberty Enlightening the World, the
immense sculpture by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi . (Edwards 90.) It is important to note that gift
was not from the French government. It was a gesture of friendship from its citizens and I feel
symbolized the stature, in France s eyes, that America had achieved in the world during the Gilded
Age. The Harper s article discusses the dedication on October 28, 1886 of the statue of Liberty

Benevolent Sexism Essay
Benevolent sexism is a courteous attitude toward women (which feels favorable) but in actuality is
sexist because the motivation behind it casts women as weak individuals in need of men s
assistance. This evaluation of gender only appears subjectively positive, yet damages gender
equality. Benevolent sexism is harmful because of the motivation that drives it. However, if the
motivation of the individual (men or women) assisting is not based on the original assumption that
women are weak individuals that need help, I believe purely chivalrous actions makes a better
world and should be encouraged. The friendly, fuzzy feelings from benevolent sexism come at a
cost, [they]..aren t all sunshine and butterflies (Tannenbaum, 2013). Even though they benefit
women (compliments, perks), benevolent sexism often creates a damaging stereotype for women
in maledominated fields. The motivation behind the chivalrous acts directed towards women comes
from the traditional genderstereotyping of masculine dominance, thus proposing inequality based

The insidious fraction allows it to influence opinions of an individual in a non direct way, which is
much harder to detect (it hides under the guise of positivity). For example, imagine a hypothetical
situation a firm is voting to legalize an anti female policy in leadership roles because they lack the
assertiveness and toughness to lead. The voting would cause an uproar and protested because it
directly promotes gender inequality in the workplace. However, consider the second hypothetical
situation a firm is voting to legalize an anti female policy in leadership roles because they are much
more attentive to details than men and make better accountant (or any other non leadership role).
The latter situation (even though the purpose of the policy is the same) would cause less uproar
and protest due to the different wording and

Evolution Of Designer Babies
Due to the latest research and technology, science has advanced and is going as far as to making
the impossible possible. As a result, the breakthrough of designer babies has become the future of
human evolution. Designer babies are embryos created through in vitro fertilization and selected
because of the presence or absence of particular genes created by genetic interventions into pre
implantation embryos as an attempt to influence hereditary traits the resulting babies will have
(Pang and Ho, 2016, p. 59). The concept of designer babies first emerged in the late nineteenth
century, when scientist Walter Heape was researching about in vitro fertilization. He tested in vitro
fertilization by transferring embryos from one rabbit to another... Show more content on

Therefore, the main concern for future and current parents is the safety and health of their
children. With the development of genetic enhancement, parents are able to transform their
embryos into designer babies as a result. Through the creation of designer babies, it could
prevent babies from inheriting undesirable traits that would result in diseases or mutations that
may reduce their quality of life. The majority of designer babies are created with the aim to
prevent the inheritance of genetic defects through the selection of disease free embryos by
preimplantation genetic diagnosis to avoid life shortening diseases (Pang and Ho, 2016, p. 59).
Therefore, with this technology parents do not have to worry about their child suffering from
diseases and disabilities that may decrease their quality of life or shorten it. No parents want
their child to suffer and die before them, so designer babies are a solution to help alleviate that
concern. In addition, besides preventing hereditary diseases, the technology will result in a new
generation of healthier babies. Besides removing defective genes, genes can also be modified for
babies to become fitter and more improved, which will increase their likelihood of future success
when they grow up. Moreover, designing babies is not only helping to prevent certain hereditary
diseases, it also reduces the financial and emotional burdens on the parents (Verlinsky, 2005).
Having a disability or illness may cost a significant amount of money because of continuous
medications and treatment. With that, there is the probability that the child may never be cured or
may die. Worrying about the health of the child can cause an emotional toll on the parents. All
parents want the best for their children as it is their duty to care for their child to the best of their
capabilities. As of today, these techniques are used only by parents who need the assistance

Theme Of Decline Of The West
The Decline of the West
The short story The Decline of the West written by Hanif Kureishi and published in 2010 deals with
heavy themes such as materialism, bad parenting and focuses on the dysfunctional families that can
be found in our modern society as a consequence of materialism.
In the short story we are introduced to the father Mike who has lost his job in corporate finance
and is on his way home to tell his family. The reveal of the bad news to his dysfunctional and
materialistic family is constantly being put off by his family s constant demand of new and better
things such as guitars or televisions.
This constant demand is one of the major themes in the short story and is shown to be the root of
all the problems in Mike s family. At the far end of the garden was a shed he d built for the boys to

You ve spoiled and neglected him, you ridiculous, foolish man. And now you expect him to obey
you! (p. 4, line 134 135) The wife, Imogen, knows that you do not earn a child s respect or love
by buying things as an excuse for not being there, a vital point that has been completely
overlooked by Mike. But even the mother who is the family member most outraged by this
incident, is not free from the grasp of capitalism and materialism. After reprimanding Mike she goes
on to say that he owes his youngest son a guitar and other musical instruments. So even with a
violent father attacking his own son, the only thing on the family s mind is things, things and more
things. Capitalism has been around for a very long time and with it comes a burning desire for
economic and materialistic improvement that overshadows everything ells. This is the decline the
West is faced with. We become so obsessed with materialistic accretion that we forget all the things
that might actually mean a lot to us, such as our family or our own

My Last Day On Earth Essay
You never know when your last day on Earth will be, make the best out of everyday. My mother
told my brother and I the night before tragedy struck. I went to bed on that quiet night in May;
woken up by a terrible and heartbreaking nightmare. The nightmare was composed of my cousin,
Travis, dying in a car crash. Staying awake for ten more minutes to receive a phone call that my
nightmarehas become a reality. Being only 14 years old, I couldn t quite grasp the idea that my best
friend, my other brother, and my big cousin has just left all of us forever. For the next 5 years of
my life, I applied my mothers saying, you never know when your last day on Earth will be, make
the best out of everyday to everything I did/do. Travis would have never known his last day on
Earth would be May 21st, 2012, only 19 years old. Life can be taken away from us in split second;
so why don t we live each day like its our last? Why do people take love and life for granted? Sadly,
it takes tragedy to make people realize that tomorrow is not granted.
I was six years old when Travis moved out of our house. Thinking he was my brother until then, I
was surprised when my mom said, Tell your cousin bye, Brookie. . Since the day he moved out,
he continued to be my very best friend. Calling him every night, upset about family issues, school
work, the fight I had with my friend that day, he was there for me every single night getting me
through it all; then as soon as my life got much more hard,

The Keystone Xl Pipeline Is A Proposed 1179 Mile Pipeline...
2. The Keystone XL pipeline is a proposed 1,179 mile pipeline that would travel from the oil
sands of Alberta, Canada, southeast to Steele City, Nebraska, where it would connect with a
preexisting pipe. The pipeline would transport 830,000 barrels of oil daily, which is around 50%
more oil per day than is currently transported from Canada. Supporters say that it will create
thousands of jobs and reduce the United Statesdependence on foreign oil. Environmentalists who
oppose the Keystone XL state that increasing our supply of oil will only make it even more
difficult to the slow the current trend of climate change, as well as the fact that the proposed
pipeline runs through many ecologically sensitive areas, such as the Sandhills of Nebraska.
3.Article 1: This article tells about President Obama vetoing Keystone Jobs Bill on grounds that
approval of the construction of the controversial Keystone XL pipeline would damage the U.S.
effort to curb greenhouse gases. The article frames Obama as an environmental hero, quoting the
president in saying, America is now a global leader when it comes to taking serious action to fight
climate change... And frankly, approving this project would have undercut that global leadership.
And that s the biggest risk we face not acting. The authors also cite Secretary of State John Kerry
in saying The United States cannot ask other nations to make tough choices to address climate
change if we are unwilling to make them ourselves. The

The Ethics Of Care Ethics
Care Ethics (Feminist Ethics) is the importance of caring relationships in life whether its human or
animal related. The main goal of care ethics is to maintain and promote caring relationships. Care
ethics involves helping both yourself and the world around you. It gives you the motivation to care
for others beside yourself. Care ethicsaccording to the article is more a general approach than a
theory in regards to other ethical practices. The goal of care ethics is to show that women have the
same equal rights as men and that they both have freedoms of their own. This is important as this
is helping to address equality among the human race. Care ethics as a whole revolves around
emotions.
Care ethic believers preach that having emotions helps you to think and feel for others. The goal in
emotions is to focus on the wants and needs of the one being cared for. They believe through this
they can relate to others in their needs. An example that the article gives is the mother child
relationship. If a child wants something to eat, the mother of that child knows best what the child
needs. This is due to the caring motherly nature that mothers have. Also, caring helps to motivate us
to tend to those, even if we are exhausted, and angry. The difference between care ethics and
utilitarianism is that utilitarian s do not believe that emotions are helping them to choose right or
wrong in any situation. They believe that through calculations, they can

Sports Nutritional Market Executive Summary
Sports Nutritional Category В– Executive Summary
Over the past 5 years the market has seen an enormous increase in the sports nutritional product
category. These products range from energy drinks and nutritional bars to diet products and
nutritional supplements, and each day new products are being introduced into the market. With
nutrition and taste being two of the most important aspects of the product, creating and maintaining
products in this category is simplified. This has become one of the most exciting new markets not
only because it is the beginning of a new wave of a product category but because the market and
consumer base is large and ready to be tapped into. The market is increasingly becoming more and
more energetic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A promising characteristic of consumers in this category is that many of them tend to prefer
smaller, trendier, and В‘cooler companies. There are lot of these consumers that would much
rather give their money to an independent/private company than to a large corporation.
Companies such as Red Bull and Odwalla have come to be some of the strongest brands in the
sports nutritional category simply by being В‘renegade brands. Because the parity of products that
are in this market, success requires building a strong brand around the product. There are not too
many variables with which to work (mostly taste and nutrition) which can cause some companies
distress. This however is not a flaw but a benefit of the category because it does allow for a strong
brand building that can create strong consumer loyalty.
After discussing the make up of the consumers of sports nutritional products and the organization of
the marketers and companies in this category, it is time to look to the future of sports nutritional
products as an industry. It seems as if each day more and more people are searching for ways in
which to live healthier and improved lives. This can be seen in the increase of consumption of
health related nutritional products. As new studies reveal important health benefits of certain foods
(i.e. soy, ginseng, calcium) there are increased outlets for integrating these foods into sports
nutritional products. Women

practice she had me gather all the volleyballs and put them in the cart.

Oral And Anal Sex Are Safer Alternatives Than Vaginal Sex
Debunking the Misconception that Oral and Anal Sex Are Safer Alternatives Than Vaginal Sex
Although the origin is unknown, for many years the common misconception that both oral sex and
anal sex are safer alternatives to vaginal sex has been fuelled, especially in regards to pregnancy
and the contraction of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). This may be partially due to the fact
that most individuals do not consider oral sex and anal sex to be real relative to vaginal sex. The
belief of this claim has influenced individuals sexual behaviours for years, including the ways in
which they prioritize protection, and more specifically, condom use. However, although both
oral and anal sex are less likely to result in pregnancy, there is just as likely a chance of an
individual who has participated in oral or anal sex contracting an STI as an individual who
partook in vaginal sex. In fact, different methods of sexual behaviour do not necessarily mean you
are subject to fewer risks, but to different risks.
With progressing attitudes towards sex and greater acceptance of alternative sexual behaviours, the
amount of people engaging in a wider variety of sexual behaviours has increased tremendously
over the years. With greater participation in sexual behaviour comes a greater risk of pregnancy and
contracting and passing STIs.
Therefore, evaluated in this paper will be the misconception that oral sex and anal sex are safer than
vaginal sex through the utilization of supplementary

Chemistry Of Film
Chemistry of Film Exposure and Development
Film is composed of an acetate base coated with a photographic emulsion layer. The base supports
the emulsion, which consists of small silver halide crystals suspended in gelatin. The crystals are
Silver Iodobromide (silver bromide with added silver iodide). (Earle L. Kitts) When the emulsion
is struck by light, the silver halide is converted to solid silver. (Janice Clifton) A crystal absorbs a
photon of light, with energy equal to Planck s constant times the frequency of the light, liberating
an electron from the ion. This leads to the formation of a photoelectron and neutral bromine atom.
(Earle L. Kitts) The photoelectron combines with a silver ion to form a neutral metallic silver atom.

First, the unprocessed negatives are treated with developer, an agent that turns silver halide to
solid silver. (Janice Clifton) The most common developing agents are phenidone and
hydroquinone. The active agents have a high pH, causing the gelatin to swell and allowing for a
more rapid penetration throughout the emulsion. (Earle L. Kitts) The bromide in the gelatin acts
as a development restrainer, preventing the development of unexposed silver bromide grains that
would cause fog. (Earle L. Kitts) Development is a chemical reaction, so time and temperature
must be regulated. (Janice Clifton) After development, some photosensitive silver halide crystals
remain. (Janice Clifton) A stop bath of Acetic acid neutralizes the developer with no effect on
the silver halide. The developed negatives are treated with a fixer solution of high concentration
sodium hyposulfite to dissolve the unused silver halide.(Earle L. Kitts)(Janice Clifton) Once the
film is removed from the fixer, it can be exposed to regular light since only solid silver negative
remains. A hypo cleaning agent is then used to neutralize fixer on the film. This step is optional
however the alternative is to run the film under water for an hour as opposed to 6 minutes.
Photoflo, a wetting agent, is then added to break down the surface tension of water droplets so the
film dries spot free, similarly to dishwasher detergent with glass. (Janice

The Use Of Slang And Its Significance On English Essay
Before getting into the abundance of slang and its significance on English, it is first best to
cover the four base words of the LGBTQ community and how they have transgressed over time.
Queer, lesbian, homosexual, and gay all share an importance to the beginnings of the more
modern usages. The origin of queer is unclear, but the Oxford English dictionary defines one of
its earliest meanings around 1513 as strange, odd, peculiar, eccentric . It wasn t until the 1900s
that it was used as an offensive term for homosexual people, with its original meaning still in
context. This changed in the 1990s when early conversations about queer theory were had by
social theorists Michel Foucault, Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, Judith Butler, and others. This brought
the word into a new light. Of course it still holds some of its derogatory meaning, but by using
this word to define a theory that discussed the idea that gender is major part of the necessary self
and in gay/lesbian studies it closely examines the socially constructed nature of identities and
sexual acts. This reading connects directly with what is happening at present, which is a
reclaiming of queer by people in the LGBTQ community to stand for both questioning and sexual
and gender minorities. In her article on equality, Lisa Duggan states, Queer people, particularly
queer people of color, began to reclaim queer in response to a perceived shift in the gay community
toward liberal conservatism, catalyzed by Andrew Sullivan s

Surgical Sterilization
In the healthcare environment, all instruments and equipment must be sterilized and appropriately
packaged prior to use. Instrument preparation and wrapping is an important part of surgery as
they help tame infection and disease with patients undergoing surgical procedures. As surgical
technologists, it is important to know how to properly prepare and wrap instruments because
within the life of a scrub nurse they may also have to do just that when no other personnel are

A meaningful tradition to me is when me and my dad go out a couple of days before christmas and

Essay Bismarck Claims The Credit For German Unification
Bismarck Claims The Credit For German Unification
In the early 19th Century, the growth of nationalism and the growing economic strength of the
German states was very great. The German s shared a common identity in the form of language
race and heritage such as music, literature and poetry. The growing improvements in
communications and transport also brought the states one step closer together. The reduction of the
number of German states from 365 to 39 states made each state more economically and militarily
stronger.
Conditions, particularly economic conditions, were such in 1862 that Bismarck was able to build
on them and gain the credit for their successes.

Nationalism was also at a great high in Europe even reaching to countries out with Europe. The
majority of middle class liberals wished to instate an elected government with freedom of speech
and press. It was clear that these aims could be achieved through a unified Germany, therefore
identifying the liberals with the nationalist cause. In the 1840 s military manoeuvres and political
decisions made by the French which seemed threatening to the Germans provoked strong reactions
from many of the Germans leading to a growth in nationalism and the creation of nationalistic
songs, sung by the German troops such as, The watch on the Rhine . The revolutions, which took
place in France, Italy and the Austrian Empire along with the fall of prince Metternicht, encouraged
the German nationalists who longed for a unified Germany. The middle classes also pressed for
political reform. Revolts in Prussia caused the king to create a Prussian national assembly, which in
the end failed due to lack of strong leadership and right wing oppositions to the collapse of the
assembly.

SCIENCE AS WE KNOW IT
Science across all fields seems to make news almost every day of our lives for one reason or
another, some good, some bad. But in recent science news, researchers from Ohio State University
have done what seems to be impossible; they ve grown a brain.
One has to wonder at not only the oddity of this but just how this was possible. Some might even
question whether or not, a live specimen was part of it but it s not.
Rather than all of that, this brain was developed in a lab. On the 18th of August, Ohio State

The Ending of White Minority and Nelson Mandela Essay
The Ending of White Minority and Nelson Mandela
In 1948, the Apartheid system officially started. A Dr. Malan introduced it. He established the
structure of Apartheid because he exclaimed different races could not live amongst each other in
harmony and needed to live separately. Some might argue it was because he wanted to secure the
supposed superiority of the White minority. It ended within 50 year of starting.
This essay is going to explain how Nelson Mandela, once just a member of a small Black tribe in
the depth of South Africa, fought Apartheid to become a worldwide figurehead for non Whites, the
first Black president of South Africa, in 1994. It will also explain to what extent his ... Show more

Drastic times lead to drastic measures, so Mandela sought temporary refuge in neighbouring
countries, ruled by Blacks to set up militia groups. Mandela study military tactics for a long time
and used that knowledge to train his group to sabotage electricity supplies for White
neighbourhoods, strike government buildings and cause a general disruption for the Whites. But in
1962, on Mandela s return to South Africa, he was arrested.
This is a key factor in which opinion disagrees with Mandela solely ending Apartheid. When
arrested he was sent to a high security prison on Robben Island, off the coastline of South Africa,
for 26 years.
Although, in response, others feel Mandela was a figurehead who inspired other Blacks to fight for
their cause. Also he receives credibility for the awareness around the world at the time.
After Mandela s release he became president of South Africa in 1994, and with help from his White
deputy, de Klark, managed to dismantle the Apartheid state.
When Mandela took refuge it was at a time when a trend swept across the continent of Africa.
During the late 50s and throughout the 60s, the White colonies that ruled over 30 countries in
Africa gave independence to the Black peoples of the countries. This allowed Black people to
govern themselves. The trend seamed to spread from North to South Africa from Libya, in the
North in 1951 through to Egypt

to be controlled and financed solely by him and the advantage of managing self is that all
decisions will be made by him, setting up is easy and high degree of control. Lastly, he will be
his own boss and have the flexibility of doing things at his own pace, however the consequences
of this type of venture is that once he is no longer around to foresee things the business ceases

with a cover person. 2.Partnership he can be in partnership with 2 or dozen partners will be

bringing in a speciality. It is easy to set up the burden of risk is a share among partners. The
downside of partnership is that, there is a potential risk of conflict and partnership dissolved on

20th Century DNA Research
DNA has been titled the most important scientific discovery of the 20th century. DNA is cells
which contain chemicals and It carries the information that determines what you are like.
Understanding the structure of DNA allowed other scientists to work on the individual elements of
the DNA helix. The biggest research is the human genome project. Numerous number of people
consider that the two scientists James Watson and Francis revealed DNAin the 1950s. However,
Swiss chemist Friedrich Miescher was first to recognize DNA in the late 1860s. After Miescher s

The data in DNA is primarily read and then it is copied into a messenger molecule. DNA
embraces the code for proteins, which are complex molecules that do huge amounts of work
around our body. After, the information held in this molecule is translated into a language
which the body can understand. Amino acids build blocks of proteins. It is this precise language
that commands how the amino acids should produce a particular protein. Moreover, DNA plays
an important role in replication. It is vital for the reproduction to the maintenance and growth of
cells, tissues, and body systems. A DNA molecule result in a series of bases without pairs along
the backbone of the molecule. DNA has four bases all part of a nucleotide. The four bases in
DNA are about the base that they will attach to. This means that adenine only pairs with thymine
and guanine will only pair with cytosine. Since nucleotides attach with unpaired bases on the
backbone of the DNA molecule. it builds a new strand that complements. The result at last is a
strand which is a perfect match to the original. When cells replicate in the body it produces new
skin and blood cells. If mistakes occur, there are systems to repair the

The Social Center For Lgbt Youth
The research question that facilitated our asset map was simply What social outlets are available
for LGBT youth in the greater Los Angeles area? . We chose this question because the majority of
the young people receiving services at our site are homeless, and as everyone knows, homelessness
is a condition that can quickly lead to despair. We firmly believed that locating LGBT themed social
gatherings, groups, and organizations would be an essential step in pointing these youths towards
systems of support that could help make their difficult circumstances more bearable.
Also, it was vital for us to focus only on social outlets that were LGBT centric for these young
people, being marginalized members of an already marginalized community, the homeless have
distinct needs that other individuals don t. And when these needs aren t met, the consequences can
be tragic. Research shows that approximately 62 percent of homeless LGBT youth attempt suicide
(Center for American Progress, 2010). Before we began our work, officials at our site informed us
that they did not have a list of social outlets for the clients, which made our asset map that much
more important.
We drew the boundaries of the map around the greater Los Angeles area. This decision was made
because many of the clients, being homeless, do not have the means to go far distances. It would
have been useless to include social outlets in San Diego, for instance. As far as our criteria for

The Effect Of Reaction Time On The Brain
That step wasn t there before! and, I didn t trip. I was.... dancing, are a few excuses that people
may use when they make a mistake. It is not uncommon to hear people create these excuses to
cover their embarrassment of missing the last step on the stairs, or for tripping over a crack in the
sidewalk. Although some of these alibis may seem like reasonable answers, they are almost always
incorrect. The proper explanation for events, such as the examples mentioned, is based on reaction
time. The study of human reaction time triggered by stimulus has progressed over time; scientists
now understand how reaction time works, what it is needed for, and what factors impact reaction
time.
Reaction time, like most subjects related to the brain, has an interesting history. At first, most
scientists believed that mental processes in the human brain were too fast to be measured.
However, a Dutch Physiologist named F.C. Donders started to think, about whether reaction time
could be measured in 1965. Donder s thoughts were backed up by research done by a English
scientist and inventor Charles Wheatstone. In 1840, Wheatstone conducted an experiment where a
patient s foot was shocked. The test subject had to press a button using the hand that was on the
same side as the foot that was shocked. Some patients knew which foot would be shocked and
others did not know. There was a one fifteenth second delay between the two. The was the first
record of the mind being measured (Shannon, 2012).

The Price Of Goods And Services
The way companies price their goods and services depends heavily on many different factors.
Throughout human history, goods and services have always had intrinsic value to people, and in
our day and age this is no different. Shopping, however, has changed quite a bit due to many
different reasons. Prices of goods and services are now changed by companies based on psychology,
supply and demand, and government influences to adapt themselves to the modern world. The
most personal of these three factors is the direct psychology of pricing, from items costing $0.01
less than an even dollar amount to overcharging for soda at a fast food restaurant, prices are
specifically engineered to optimize profits for a company. According to Judith Holdershaw, writer
for the MarketingBulletin, the practice of ending prices with $0.99 is used because the human
brain, in recognizing that $4.99 is closer to $5.00 than $4.00, has to do an extra mental step to
carry the one. This may seem like an insignificant step, however when these memories are viewed
in hindsight, the brain glosses over the extra step to convert the $0.99 to $1.00, which gives the
consumer the impression of a lower cost, even when the nominal priceis practically identical.
(Holdershaw) By pricing their products at one cent below a round number, producers can also
establish price points, such that when manufacturing and transportation costs would suggest a
product should be sold at $5.25, a producer can sell the product

How The Writing Composed Within Academic Settings Can Best...
The writing composed in academic settings can best be described as demonstrate what we have

professors what we have learned, we can think critically and apply it.
The writing submitted to professors gives them an impression of the way our practical mind works
when confronted with a significant topic in a distinct field of study. Instructors want to see us learn
to think like someone trained within this field. Academic writing make extensive use of specialized

This people do not want to know or monitor the growth of the writer. They want to know what to
do, and what the company is going to do next. Business writers often propose and support strategic
courses of action to their audience.
The problem is that most of the professors do not know what their graduates are doing after they
leave college, they receive some random emails and occasional visits from a few students. Hence,
they continue to teach, as if all of their students will seek graduate work. Often using this fact as a
defense of why they teach a distinct academic theory or author or method of evaluation.
This leads to a program and advising that does our students no good. Instead of guesswork what
students are doing, we need to reach out to our graduates and former students to see where they
really work. Then we should reconsider our courses and cooperate with students to better help them
see all of their true potentials. At our best, we should go further than this and help them find
internships or minors or other majors that will help find meaningful work after graduating. One of
the fact is most freshman undergraduates do not want to become academician for a living end.
Even if, they did, there would be a lot of other courses in their future beyond English composition
to introduce the proficiency of writing for academic purposes.

Burning Man Vs Burning Man
The ability to awaken people s imagination toward an alternative way of living is crucial for social
change. We feel powerless when facing world, believing that no one could really pull the
formidable social forces that forged the current condition to another direction. As members in
different communities, we torture people both inside and outside of our communities with unfair
rules and unreasonable expectations while subjecting ourselves under the very same misery. We
label certain groups of people with hostile and wicked moral characters while loathing ourselves
for not having the ability to break out the boxes that are tabbed by stereotype. Yet, some of us
refuse to accept such a doomed fate for the human race. Ayelet Shachar and Ran Hirschl undertake

populations; Jamaica Kincaidendeavors to knock some sense out of the complacent Western

William wrote over 120 pieces, including sonnets, madrigals, and other secular works (William).
William is best known for his development of the English madrigal. (Britannica) A madrigal is a
choral piece for two to four people. In his song, Ave Verum Corpus , we can clearly hear this use
of many choral voices. In fact, this effect can be found in a almost all of William s works. He
took large risks by using two, three, four, or even more voices to blend perfect harmonies and
use alternating melodies. The result is beautiful music that would be used, even today, by
countless others. On aspect of his music is the joining of high and low voices. There are areas in
his music where the low voices sing but the high voices do not and vice versa. Then, William
does a splendid job of blending them together, using the differing pitches of the singers to
compliment each others voices. The result is a full sound that is not too muddy and low, yet not
too high and pitchy. His songs were almost always in Latin wording, including the constant use
of the phrase Agnus Dei or Lamb of God . If listening very closely, one might be able to hear this
phrase repeated in many of the works provided by William. Byrd also released a collection of
madrigals that became very popular (William).William also jumped for any opportunity he could

A Viable Fetus
Miriam Webster Medical Dictionary defines a viable fetus is capable of living outside the human
uterus, weighing 500 grams or more, and the pregnancy is of 20 weeks in gestation. Not all
pregnancies go as planned as more infants are born before full term, and sometimes between 22 24
weeks of gestation. These infants are at the verge of viability and sometimes resuscitation can lead
to morbidity or mortality.
Whether health care providers resuscitate or not is an ethical dilemma which all health care
providers and family members have to struggle with when it comes to the premature baby as small
as the viable fetus. Although recommendations have been made by organizations including the
American Academy of Pediatrics and the Nuffield Council on Bioethics, the decision to resuscitate
is complex, requiring careful consideration of multiple factors related to each individual case
(Powell, et al., 2012) If the infant survives after being resuscitated it may have long term heath
issues which can be costly for the family, but some viable fetuses can survive without any negative
consequences and live a healthy life. The question asked is Should an extremely premature baby be

Spread Of Islam In North Africa Essay
In the years before the Postclassical Period, the northern African region was predominantly
influenced by polytheistic and animistic religions. The region also held a variety of nomadic
cultures that had a major focus on clan and family relationships. In familial roles, men had a
different and higher standard than women. In 610 C.E., the religionof Islamwas founded in the
northern African region, and the establishment of this religion effectively revolutionized the region
and its effects lasted for years afterwards. The emergence of Islam was the first instance in world
history in which a religion, through its universal elements, was able to effectively revolutionize
social relationships, political institutions, and economic establishments that helped completely unite
societies within the region, and also was able to effectively spread itself across multiple empires
within the Indian Oceanregion. The emergence of Islam was the first... Show more content on

Before the influence of Islam spread over, the societies within the region lacked concentration of
political power and authority, as they possessed no ruler or kingdom. However, the emergence
of Islam provided political unity. Empire building was a success as Islam existed as an ideology
that supported the missions of expansion and conquest by the state. As societies began to exist as
an entire empire united by Islam. The military fought for Islam by spreading their faith, and
government leaders were united in their faith. The religion of Islam also encouraged that all were
equal, which allowed for more followers to accept the idea of being conquered and brought under
new leadership, as they all would be united by Islam and citizens would be able to identify with
their rulers. Islam allowed for separate political entities to combine under one ideology, effectively
revolutionizing the political structures within the

The Bluest Eye Motor Mimicry Essay
Toni Morrison s novel the Bluest Eye shows the reader that motor mimicry contributes to a vicious
cycle of women diminishing their self worth. Through the comparison of Pecola and her mother
Pauline, both conform their actions to the mimicry of societal downcast. To survive and avoid life
challenges through mimicking Pecola, and Pauline retract further into a life of fantasy. Pauline
dives into the realm of movies, while Pecola fantasizes of her new blue eyes in order escape the
impending feeling of an outcast. Paragraph1: what is motor mimicry Developing a sense of identity
and self worth is entangled with how an individual is raised and their acceptance of societal norms.
Humans have an innate sense to interact with others and develop relationships. While observing
human interactions, people begin to mimic motor activity of others they admire. Motor mimicry is
described as adopting another s posture, imitation. This idea of imitation is a key to how individuals
interact with each other, thus creating an empathetic feeling towards one another. When a person
perceives another in a given situation this automatically leads one to match the others neural state.
Hence, people can feel emotions of another and understand their internal... Show more content on

handicapped foot. Consequently, this accidental flaw caused a ripple effect, hindering Pauline s
family relationships and acceptance into social groups. She never felt at home anywhere or

foot. (p.111) Pauline s negative outlook set a driving force towards withdrawal. Eventually,
Pauline is confined to household chores and her dreams of love to fill a void of unworthiness. The

Society s Unconscious Response Of Health And Illness
Society s unconscious response to health and illness
An important next step will be to re establish and anchor in trust in ourselves, and there is no better
opportunity to test our trust than the fear generated by social beliefs and the media reports
surrounding health and dis ease.
I would like to share an example of societies belief systems that surround dis ease with the relevant
points of a recent therapy session with a client.
My client who had been diagnosed with a life threatening dis ease (for the second time) arrived for
a Therapy session.
As we began to talk, she had a look of uncertainty on her face, unsure of how to express, in sensible
terms, what she had been experiencing and feeling since her diagnosis .
You are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast, earlier that day she had shared her thoughts with a close family member, she expressed
her need to talk to her body and love her illness away. She also shared that she really needed to
listen to her inner feelings.
The family member was horrified, that s it she said you ve given up , you have to Fight this thing ,
you must Fight it , was her panicked response.
This reaction did not surprise me in the slightest; it is a reflection of the unbalanced views we have
regarding health, illness and our bodies.
Our lives are filled with fear regarding dis ease. Will I be next? The statistics state me, or someone
in my family will defiantly be struck by serious illness.
The TV adverts appear to be ever increasing, filled with fear of what will happen to your family
when you are taken by a dis ease, children are even shown saying goodbye to a parent, I have
seen a baby used to highlight a dis ease. These adverts and the frequent messages we are given
regarding dis ease, is ironically, very unhealthy.
You will notice I am not naming specific dis eases, the names/words carry a vibration and we
don t need the vibration of a dis ease and the energy it carries in this book or affecting you as you
read. Therefore we can happily leave the names out.
Just remember at all times what DIS EASE means, dis ease within the body, it is far less
frightening and leaves the door wide open to go from DIS ease to EASE.
The stance society takes on

Analysis Of Anna D Smith s Twilight
Introduction
In the month of May 1992, Anna D Smith, who was an actress and playwright, started
investigating the experiences, feelings and emotions of the Los Angeles peoples when the riots
had happened. For her play; she wanted to perform an act of one woman on the stage and also
published all those human experiences in her book. For her requirements she did interview more
than 200 citizens of that country for getting the detailed information about Riots. However, through
her play Twilight she wanted to explore the real picture of the people suffrages, police brutality, and
exact problem behind the racisms, people feelings and thoughts about the brutality. Twilight
describes all the pain and sufferings of the people who had lived during the riots period. Anna had
presented clear visuals of riots including all human emotions, causes and their sufferings including
all historical facts that were playing leading factors for it.
Emerging Factors of the Riots in Los Angeles 1992
This play had revealed clear view about class tensions and also explaining about the conflicting
issues for ethnics in between 1970 1990. Those issues were also the major responsible factors for
this Brutal Riots in Los Angeles. Well, the terrible thing right now, and I don t know the statistics,

As well as discrimination, many older people suffer exclusion and social isolation. There are
multiple reasons that cause older people to become socially isolated including the loss of a
partner, family members moving away, living in rural and remote areas and chronic illness. Age
discrimination can intensify social isolation in a psychological sense just as much as poor
transport, poor access to appropriate housing, inadequate health services and living in isolated
areas. Australia s aged care system is funded and regulated through a complex set of arrangements,
involving different levels of government and a diverse range of stakeholders, including informal
carers and formal care providers from the not for profit (religious and charitable), for profit and
government sectors. These arrangements reflect, in part, the complexities inherent in the broader
Australian health and welfare system. Aged care services in Australia range from basic home
support services in the community (including assistance with house cleaning and meals) to more
intensive care services delivered both in the care recipient s own home and in residential settings.
Government support for these services occurs through a number of programs, subject to different
regulatory arrangements, that have emerged with the evolving roles of different levels of the
government in the provision of health services, welfare services and income

Effects Of Anatomical Parts Of Ephedra Sinica
Ephedra (Ma Huang) is a genus of plant, most commonly derived from the dried herbaceous stems
of the Chinese species, Ephedra sinica (Figure 1a and 1b). The natural plant source produces six
Ephedra alkaloids, chemicals which are considered to be the active constituents of the plant;
ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, norephedrine, norpseudoephedrine, methylephedrine and
methylpsuedoephedrine (Figure 2) (Veitch et al., 2013). The presence and concentrations of these
alkaloids depends primarily on the plant species, origin, growing conditions, and the raw plant
material processing, with most species largely containing ephedrineand pseudoephedrine (Haller et
al., 2004). Metabolomic studies have shown that anatomical parts of Ephedrasinica have different
therapeutic pharmacological effects and for this reason, have been used for different purposes in
medicine. This was demonstrated by Lv et al (2015), who used GC MS to compare the
concentrations of Ephedra sinica in the stems (Ma Huang) and in the roots (Mahuanggen) of
different plant samples. It was concluded that the pharmacologically important ephedrine alkaloids
were present in higher quantities in the stems. This is why Ephedra herb, sold as dry stems of
Ephedra sinica, has been used as a commercial source of ephedrine alkaloids worldwide, in
particular Europe and America (Lee 2011).
Ephedrine is a ОІ phenylethylamine widely used as a sympathomimetic in herbal preparations. The

Pursuing A Career In Theatre Education
Hey there, everyone! As the Christmas season comes to a close, I thought it was time for me to do
another post about theatre education. Earlier in the year, I did a few posts on education, including a
quiz about what theatre major to choose in college, out of state schools for theatre, and why it is
important to participate in youth theatre.
Today, I wanted to do a post about the diverse theatre personnel. A lot of time when people think
about theatre, their minds immediately jump to actors, director, producers, costume designers, etc.
Obviously, those jobs are extremely important, but there are other jobs in theatre are essential to the
creation of a successful show.
Today, we will be focusing on pre production. Next week will be production... Show more content

However, make up design like costume design is very specific and although degree programs don
t really exist for it, technical programs do, so training in one of these stage makeup programs
although not necessarily required is incredibly useful.
Actor/actress portrays the characters created by the playwright. Interprets the role, keeping true to
the vision of the director.
Many colleges offer BFAs in Acting, but a large percentage of general Theatre BAs have acting
concentrations as well.
It is important for actors to understand the technical positions as well.
Thank you for reading and learning! Tune in next week for a list of theatre jobs directly involved

Themes And Setting In The Book Thief By Markus Zusak
In a story, the setting is vital because it not only shows the characters surroundings, which will
cause them to act a certain way, but it can also help to depict a theme. In The Book Thief, a novel
by Markus Zusak, just like in many other books, the central setting helps to develop themes and
ideas in the novel.
Liesel Meminger, a smart yet sneaky nine year old girl who experiences life in Nazi Germany,
was on a train to Munich along with her mother and six year old brother, Werner. They were on
their way to a foster family who agreed to care for Liesel and her sick brother, who does not end up
making it. The foster family had consented to feeding the children a little better than they were
currently being fed, and educating them properly.
Outside of the train it was severely cold, and since Liesel s brother just died they had to bury
him. Standing to Liesel s left, the grave diggers were rubbing their hands together and whining
about the snow and the current digging conditions. (page 23) Because it was so snowy outside,
Werner did not get a proper burial; he was just buried under the thick layers of snow. This caused
Leisel to try to dig him out, but snow carved into her skin and frozen blood was all over her
hands. This is only one example of when the setting affected the characters actions.
Later, when Liesel and her mother arrived in Molchig, a small town in Munich, they approach the
foster home. It was on Himmel street, where, as Death, the narrator of the story

Counterfeits medicines has spread like wildfire across online shops and unauthorized pharmacies.
According to the data that given from World Health Organization(WHO), they estimated that 10

As we know, counterfeit drugs/medicines are not made in the same factories as the original ones.
It may not even be made at a sanitary area and so whatever germs and microbes are present there,
may crawl into the products as well. People who concoct these fake medicines includes all kinds of
chemicals just to make it look like the real thing. Harmful chemical are one thing that should be not
in our medicines. Those chemicals can trigger to allergic reactions and dangerous disease.
Treatments with ineffective counterfeit drugs/medicines such as antibiotic can lead to emergence
of resistant organisms and may have a deleterious effect on a wide section of the population. In
extreme cases, counterfeits drugs/medicines may even cause death. For example, in 2005 Malaysia
showed that 8.5 percents impotence medication in the country are fake. While in 2012, the Ministry
of Health in Malaysia advices people do not use the traditional products Mymen Plus(capcules

Dear Mr. Thompson:
I have watched the YouTube video called The Oil Sands Industry and Canada s Future . I have
several concerns regarding some of the statements that you and a few others made during the video.
I believe that when it comes to oil sands, there are a lot more negatives than positives that come with
them.
All oil sand companies are supposed to reclaim lands that have been disturbed due to oil sand
operations to their natural state. 10% of the land that has been used by oil sand companies has been
reclaimed to their natural state since 1967. That means that the other 90% of the land has not been

Comparing Story Of An Hour And The Interlopers
Compare and Contrast Essay
Reading short stories is often enjoyable, as each individual story varies quite a bit from the others.
Although short stories follow a pattern, they have many different themes. Though The Story of an
Hour by Kate Chopin and The Interlopers by Saki seem unrelated at first glance, there are similar
themes in both. The main character in The Story of an Hour is quite fragile and has a weak heart,
making her prone to heart attacks under duress, since she was afflicted with a heart trouble
(Chopin). She feels imprisoned by her husband, although he seems to love her. At the end of the
story, she receives a great shock and her heart fails. At the end of The Interlopers , the two men
are trapped and also supposedly get killed. However, the main characters are both brawny hunters,
tough and weathered. They despise each other, and their families disputed over a thin strip of
forest for generations because of A famous lawsuit, in the days of his grandfather, had wrested it
from the illegal possession of a neighboring family of petty landowners... (Saki) ... Show more

There is no danger from the surroundings, although the surroundings do play a crucial part in the
story, such as when she was drinking in a very elixir of life through that open window (Chopin).
The setting for The Interlopers is quite different than the setting for The Story of an Hour , being
in a forest at night, and during a raging storm. Without the trees and the storm, the story would
likely be quite different than it is. Both play crucial roles in the story, along with the wild animals
in the forest, evident in Ulrich s knowledge of a disturbing element in the forest (Saki) because of

Leif Enger’s Peace Like a River Essay
Leif Enger s Peace Like a River
Life can be viewed as a battle field, a constant fight between good and evil. In Leif Enger s Peace
Like a River, this scenario was well depicted. In the novel, there was a constant fight taking place
between the good and evil characters, and though based around family, love, and brotherhood, the
novel mainly focused on the conflict between these characters.
This student felt that it was fair to classify the Lands along with Roxanna Cowley, The Shultzs and

After the two murders Superintendent Holgren began to treat Jeremiah differently, as he allowed
his opinion to determine whether or not Jeremiah deserved the job. Holgren made work even more
difficult and disagreed with everything that Jeremiah did. Jeremiah, being the calm person that he
was, never retaliated with negative words. He allowed Holgren to mistreat him, even in front of
the staff and students in the school. Holgren finally resorted to firing Jeremiah in front of everyone,
but Jeremiah simply touched his face and walked away.
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing (Budha).
Jeremiah did nothing but simply left things in God s hands. He allowed Holgren to make a fool
out of himself and surprisingly, he healed Holgren s face from those unsightly sores.
Once again good triumphed over evil. This student felt that Jeremiah maintained his composure and
acted just as he should.
The best way to deal with situations is to walk away and Jeremiah proved to have such discipline.
The Lands faced a lot of negativity from persons who were once considered family friends. It
must have been difficult for the Lands as they were viewed negatively because of Davy s actions.
Although many persons betrayed them, the Lands could still count on a few old friends. The
Shultzs and Dr. Nokes continued to support them even if they did not agree with Davy s actions.

  • 2. First Los Angeles Aqueduct The First Los Angeles Aqueduct: With the rapid population growth during the year of 1902, Los Angeles had a larger demand of water than what they could provide and searching for a way to bring water was a must. William Mulholland, superintendent of the Los Angeles City Water Company, began to search for a new supply. He started looking on nearby local areas but it generated to nothing. In his search for a new source, he began by surveying all the rivers and groundwater basins south of the city. He found groundwater regulated and being used by agriculture. Additional groundwater use would limit the expansion of the neighboring country, which was the main basis of wealth of the area. Mulholland concluded Los Angeles would have to look elsewhere. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He found that the Colorado River was the best source. In 1925, the Department of Water and Power (DWP) was established. Now what came to be called the Colorado River Aqueduct, needed financing to be accomplished. Voters from the region approved a $2 million bond to perform the engineering needed for the aqueduct. In 1928, an act of the State Legislature, created the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD), and its purpose was to construct the Colorado River aqueduct to supply water to Southern California. By 1931, voters issued another bond for $220 million that would start the construction of the aqueduct. By 1941 the aqueduct was completed stretching 242 miles from the Colorado River to its final holding reservoir near Riverside, California. The Colorado River Aqueduct consists of more than 90 miles of tunnels, 55 miles of conduit, 30 miles of siphons, five pumping stations, 5 treatment plants, and 9 reservoirs. All of this can supply about 1.2 million acre feet of water every year, which is more than a billion gallons a day. This caused phenomenal growth of Los Angeles, San Diego and neighboring areas. The aqueduct is capable of lifting more than 1600 cfs to a static height of 1600 feet as it takes a path through mountains and deserts. Upon the completion of the Colorado River Aqueduct in 1941, the Municipal Water District began to wholesale Colorado River water to its member agencies. Today those agencies include 14 cities, 12 municipal water districts, and a county water authority. More than 130 municipalities and many unincorporated areas are served by this project of the DWP s and Mulholland s vision. Before Mulholland died on July 22, 1935, he lived to see the inaugurations of the Colorado River Aqueduct and Hoover Dam, constructed in the spirit of significance he had always ... • 3. Examples Of Inside The Federalist Paper Looking into the old governmental policies that helped shape our amazing Constitutional Republic today, I ve noticed quite a few policies that are still in use today, and for the most part, remain unchanged. Inside The Federalist Papers, by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay, are a great way to locate the old governmental policies that are still the same today in America. In Federalist No. 1, Alexander Hamiltonwrites of the importance and success of the Constitution as the government. He is very biased throughout the entire essay, but is at least aware of his bias. He talks about his bias and he forces his opinions on the readers throughout the entire speech. This discussion of bias actually opened withing and because of this essay and leads the entire Federalist Papersto be quite biased. However, this bias is not bad and turned out to be very persuasive to the anti federalists. In Federalist No. 2, written by John Jay, includes much important information about how the nation needs to be united. He also lets the people supporting the division of the United States know that their way is not the right way for the country. It would completely weaken and disarm the country. Jay s message in all of this essay is about the importance of the nation s unity. This is still very important today and is why the United States of... • 4. The Canadian Oil Industry s Impact On Canada A Nation at a Cross Road: The Canadian Oil Industry s Impact on Canada The Overview: Diverse and multi faceted, the Canadian business market is one of the strongest functioning mixed market economies in the world. Within the Canadian economy, the oil and gas sector stands as one of the largest and most influential sectors. The oil and gas industry is unique as it affects almost every person and sector of the economy worldwide, whether it is through commodity or material input costs. In Canada, this growing industry could allow for the country to be the one of the biggest energy producers in the world leading to a massive paradigm shift globally. The question that has arisen from this shift is whether or not the Canadian oil and gas industry inclusive of the upstream, and midstream sectors, has a net positive benefit to Canada. This essay will explore and seek to understand the myriad of issues that this industry faces daily. The reason this question has to be answered is simple, Canada sits at a very important junction in its evolution; does it continue to push forward to become an energy superpower or does it let the environmental conversation win, pushing forward instead with a clean energy agenda? This essay will hopefully drive this conversation forward. Research and Analysis: Part 1: Canadian Upstream Sector (Drilling and Production) The first of three pillars that make up the oil and gas industry in Canada is the upstream sector, which is comprised of ... • 5. My Experiences After Attending The Practice Of Public... Reflective Assignment This paper discusses my experiences after attending the Practice of Public Health Leadership (PPHL) subject in 2015, reflecting on important lessons learnt, the relevance to my work and the support required for my improvement. When I enrolled in this PPHL, I was not sure that I will get the best out of the subject due to previous experiences of attending theoretical leadership trainings. However, at the end of the subject, I was challenged, groomed, humbled and inspired as a leader. The subject has helped more to bring a lot out of myself, stimulated the urge for personal authenticity and an appreciation of the power of vulnerability in leadership. Through personal interactions with other students and presenters as well as the group activities, I have realised that the success of the team depends on recognising each other s strengths and complementing on the weaknesses. In addition, I have learnt that effective leadership depends on team work, incorporating people with different skills and abilities. I have learnt the importance of personal reflection and meditation in leadership. Furthermore, taking time to know myself or who I am, has been one of the great lessons from this subject. It has enabled me to focus on the roles of a leader instead of striving to do everything myself as the case before. In addition, learning the skills of gaining the trust of the people you are leading as well as inspiring them was a remarkable lesson. Reflecting on my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Influence Of Technique Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Cotto, Austin Trout, Erislandy Lara, Shane Mosley, Amir Khan, and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr are names that would appear on the resume of a hall of fame veteran on his way to retirement, yet this resume belongs to a twenty seven year old with years left in the gas tank. Canelo Alvarez isn t a perfect fighter; he lost against Floyd Mayweather, and people have criticized some of his recent fights. Nevertheless, he deserves a lot more credit from the boxing community than he s getting now. How could a young fighter with a great resume be ranked lower among fans and media than fighters with less than stellar resumes? In 2014, he decided to take on Erislandy Lara against his team s wishes and common sense. Lara was a skilled boxer that was feared by most people in the junior middleweight division, but Alvarez decided to take him on to prove he wasn t afraid to take a step up in competition. As you all know, that fight didn t help Alvarez in the eyes of the public. He beat Lara in a close fight, but that wasn t enough for the boxing community. Instead of being applauded for winning a close fight with someone he could ve easily avoided, the dominant storyline was that Lara was robbed. Yes, there was the ridiculous 117 111 score, but the fight was close enough for Alvarez to get the nod. Nevertheless, the boxing community couldn t come to grips with the fact that a close fight doesn t equal a robbery, so Alvarez didn t get the amount of praise Golovkin got in his recent close fight with Daniel Jacobs. The weirdest part of all of this is how the networks and media treat Canelo Alvarez. Alvarez is one of the biggest pay per view stars in boxing. His fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. drew over 1 million paper view buys, which is almost unheard of outside of Mayweather and Pacquiao. With numbers like that, you would think it would be in the best interest of boxing to push Canelo Alvarez as the next all time great. The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World : was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the United States and is recognized as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. 2. Treaty of Peace at Versailles : refers to The Peace of Paris (1783), a set of treaties which ended the American Revolutionary War. In September 1783, King George III of Great Britain signed a treaty in Paris with the United States known as the Treaty of Paris (1783) and two treaties at Versailles with King Louis XVI of France and King Charles III of Spain known as the Treaties of Versailles (1783). 3. Lafayette: During the American Revolution, French military man Marquis de La Fayette served under George Washington as a Major General in the Continental Army. The first article that I examined from Harper s Weekly was titled The Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty was a gift to the United States from the people of France. In the early 1880s, French citizens raised money to present to the United States Liberty Enlightening the World, the immense sculpture by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi . (Edwards 90.) It is important to note that gift was not from the French government. It was a gesture of friendship from its citizens and I feel symbolized the stature, in France s eyes, that America had achieved in the world during the Gilded Age. • 10. Benevolent Sexism Essay Benevolent sexism is a courteous attitude toward women (which feels favorable) but in actuality is sexist because the motivation behind it casts women as weak individuals in need of men s assistance. This evaluation of gender only appears subjectively positive, yet damages gender equality. Benevolent sexism is harmful because of the motivation that drives it. However, if the motivation of the individual (men or women) assisting is not based on the original assumption that women are weak individuals that need help, I believe purely chivalrous actions makes a better world and should be encouraged. The friendly, fuzzy feelings from benevolent sexism come at a cost, [they]..aren t all sunshine and butterflies (Tannenbaum, 2013). Even though they benefit women (compliments, perks), benevolent sexism often creates a damaging stereotype for women in maledominated fields. • 11. Evolution Of Designer Babies Due to the latest research and technology, science has advanced and is going as far as to making the impossible possible. As a result, the breakthrough of designer babies has become the future of human evolution. Designer babies are embryos created through in vitro fertilization and selected because of the presence or absence of particular genes created by genetic interventions into pre implantation embryos as an attempt to influence hereditary traits the resulting babies will have (Pang and Ho, 2016, p. 59). The concept of designer babies first emerged in the late nineteenth century, when scientist Walter Heape was researching about in vitro fertilization. Therefore, the main concern for future and current parents is the safety and health of their children. With the development of genetic enhancement, parents are able to transform their embryos into designer babies as a result. Through the creation of designer babies, it could prevent babies from inheriting undesirable traits that would result in diseases or mutations that may reduce their quality of life. The majority of designer babies are created with the aim to prevent the inheritance of genetic defects through the selection of disease free embryos by preimplantation genetic diagnosis to avoid life shortening diseases (Pang and Ho, 2016, p. 59). Therefore, with this technology parents do not have to worry about their child suffering from diseases and disabilities that may decrease their quality of life or shorten it. No parents want their child to suffer and die before them, so designer babies are a solution to help alleviate that concern. In addition, besides preventing hereditary diseases, the technology will result in a new generation of healthier babies. Besides removing defective genes, genes can also be modified for babies to become fitter and more improved, which will increase their likelihood of future success when they grow up. Moreover, designing babies is not only helping to prevent certain hereditary diseases, it also reduces the financial and emotional burdens on the parents (Verlinsky, 2005). Having a disability or illness may cost a significant amount of money because of continuous medications and treatment. With that, there is the probability that the child may never be cured or may die. Worrying about the health of the child can cause an emotional toll on the parents. All parents want the best for their children as it is their duty to care for their child to the best of their capabilities. As of today, these techniques are used only by parents who need the assistance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theme Of Decline Of The West The Decline of the West The short story The Decline of the West written by Hanif Kureishi and published in 2010 deals with heavy themes such as materialism, bad parenting and focuses on the dysfunctional families that can be found in our modern society as a consequence of materialism. In the short story we are introduced to the father Mike who has lost his job in corporate finance and is on his way home to tell his family. The reveal of the bad news to his dysfunctional and materialistic family is constantly being put off by his family s constant demand of new and better things such as guitars or televisions. But even the mother who is the family member most outraged by this incident, is not free from the grasp of capitalism and materialism. • 13. My Last Day On Earth Essay You never know when your last day on Earth will be, make the best out of everyday. My mother told my brother and I the night before tragedy struck. I went to bed on that quiet night in May; woken up by a terrible and heartbreaking nightmare. The nightmare was composed of my cousin, Travis, dying in a car crash. Staying awake for ten more minutes to receive a phone call that my nightmarehas become a reality. Being only 14 years old, I couldn t quite grasp the idea that my best friend, my other brother, and my big cousin has just left all of us forever. For the next 5 years of my life, I applied my mothers saying, you never know when your last day on Earth will be, make the best out of everyday to everything I did/do. Travis would have never known his last day on Earth would be May 21st, 2012, only 19 years old. Life can be taken away from us in split second; so why don t we live each day like its our last? Why do people take love and life for granted? Sadly, it takes tragedy to make people realize that tomorrow is not granted. I was six years old when Travis moved out of our house. Thinking he was my brother until then, I was surprised when my mom said, Tell your cousin bye, Brookie. . Since the day he moved out, he continued to be my very best friend. Calling him every night, upset about family issues, school work, the fight I had with my friend that day, he was there for me every single night getting me through it all; then as soon as my life got much more hard, ... The Keystone XL pipeline is a proposed 1,179 mile pipeline that would travel from the oil sands of Alberta, Canada, southeast to Steele City, Nebraska, where it would connect with a preexisting pipe. The pipeline would transport 830,000 barrels of oil daily, which is around 50% more oil per day than is currently transported from Canada. Supporters say that it will create thousands of jobs and reduce the United Statesdependence on foreign oil. Environmentalists who oppose the Keystone XL state that increasing our supply of oil will only make it even more difficult to the slow the current trend of climate change, as well as the fact that the proposed pipeline runs through many ecologically sensitive areas, such as the Sandhills of Nebraska. 3.Article 1: This article tells about President Obama vetoing Keystone Jobs Bill on grounds that approval of the construction of the controversial Keystone XL pipeline would damage the U.S. effort to curb greenhouse gases. The article frames Obama as an environmental hero, quoting the president in saying, America is now a global leader when it comes to taking serious action to fight climate change... And frankly, approving this project would have undercut that global leadership. And that s the biggest risk we face not acting. The authors also cite Secretary of State John Kerry in saying The United States cannot ask other nations to make tough choices to address climate change if we are unwilling to make them ourselves. • 15. The Ethics Of Care Ethics Care Ethics (Feminist Ethics) is the importance of caring relationships in life whether its human or animal related. The main goal of care ethics is to maintain and promote caring relationships. Care ethics involves helping both yourself and the world around you. It gives you the motivation to care for others beside yourself. Care ethicsaccording to the article is more a general approach than a theory in regards to other ethical practices. The goal of care ethics is to show that women have the same equal rights as men and that they both have freedoms of their own. This is important as this is helping to address equality among the human race. Care ethics as a whole revolves around emotions. Care ethic believers preach that having emotions helps you to think and feel for others. The goal in emotions is to focus on the wants and needs of the one being cared for. They believe through this they can relate to others in their needs. An example that the article gives is the mother child relationship. If a child wants something to eat, the mother of that child knows best what the child needs. This is due to the caring motherly nature that mothers have. Also, caring helps to motivate us to tend to those, even if we are exhausted, and angry. The difference between care ethics and utilitarianism is that utilitarian s do not believe that emotions are helping them to choose right or wrong in any situation. They believe that through calculations, they can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Oral And Anal Sex Are Safer Alternatives Than Vaginal Sex Debunking the Misconception that Oral and Anal Sex Are Safer Alternatives Than Vaginal Sex Although the origin is unknown, for many years the common misconception that both oral sex and anal sex are safer alternatives to vaginal sex has been fuelled, especially in regards to pregnancy and the contraction of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). This may be partially due to the fact that most individuals do not consider oral sex and anal sex to be real relative to vaginal sex. The belief of this claim has influenced individuals sexual behaviours for years, including the ways in which they prioritize protection, and more specifically, condom use. However, although both oral and anal sex are less likely to result in pregnancy, there is just as likely a chance of an individual who has participated in oral or anal sex contracting an STI as an individual who partook in vaginal sex. In fact, different methods of sexual behaviour do not necessarily mean you are subject to fewer risks, but to different risks. With progressing attitudes towards sex and greater acceptance of alternative sexual behaviours, the amount of people engaging in a wider variety of sexual behaviours has increased tremendously over the years. With greater participation in sexual behaviour comes a greater risk of pregnancy and contracting and passing STIs. The base supports the emulsion, which consists of small silver halide crystals suspended in gelatin. The crystals are Silver Iodobromide (silver bromide with added silver iodide). (Earle L. Kitts) When the emulsion is struck by light, the silver halide is converted to solid silver. (Janice Clifton) A crystal absorbs a photon of light, with energy equal to Planck s constant times the frequency of the light, liberating an electron from the ion. This leads to the formation of a photoelectron and neutral bromine atom. (Earle L. Kitts) The photoelectron combines with a silver ion to form a neutral metallic silver atom. (Earle ... (Janice Clifton) The most common developing agents are phenidone and hydroquinone. The active agents have a high pH, causing the gelatin to swell and allowing for a more rapid penetration throughout the emulsion. (Earle L. Kitts) The bromide in the gelatin acts as a development restrainer, preventing the development of unexposed silver bromide grains that would cause fog. (Earle L. Kitts) Development is a chemical reaction, so time and temperature must be regulated. (Janice Clifton) After development, some photosensitive silver halide crystals remain. (Janice Clifton) A stop bath of Acetic acid neutralizes the developer with no effect on the silver halide. The developed negatives are treated with a fixer solution of high concentration sodium hyposulfite to dissolve the unused silver halide.(Earle L. A hypo cleaning agent is then used to neutralize fixer on the film. This step is optional however the alternative is to run the film under water for an hour as opposed to 6 minutes. The Use Of Slang And Its Significance On English Essay Before getting into the abundance of slang and its significance on English, it is first best to cover the four base words of the LGBTQ community and how they have transgressed over time. Queer, lesbian, homosexual, and gay all share an importance to the beginnings of the more modern usages. The origin of queer is unclear, but the Oxford English dictionary defines one of its earliest meanings around 1513 as strange, odd, peculiar, eccentric . It wasn t until the 1900s that it was used as an offensive term for homosexual people, with its original meaning still in context. This changed in the 1990s when early conversations about queer theory were had by social theorists Michel Foucault, Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, Judith Butler, and others. This brought the word into a new light. Of course it still holds some of its derogatory meaning, but by using this word to define a theory that discussed the idea that gender is major part of the necessary self and in gay/lesbian studies it closely examines the socially constructed nature of identities and sexual acts. This reading connects directly with what is happening at present, which is a reclaiming of queer by people in the LGBTQ community to stand for both questioning and sexual and gender minorities. In her article on equality, Lisa Duggan states, Queer people, particularly queer people of color, began to reclaim queer in response to a perceived shift in the gay community toward liberal conservatism, catalyzed by Andrew Sullivan s ... We firmly believed that locating LGBT themed social gatherings, groups, and organizations would be an essential step in pointing these youths towards systems of support that could help make their difficult circumstances more bearable. It is not uncommon to hear people create these excuses to cover their embarrassment of missing the last step on the stairs, or for tripping over a crack in the sidewalk. Although some of these alibis may seem like reasonable answers, they are almost always incorrect. The proper explanation for events, such as the examples mentioned, is based on reaction time. The study of human reaction time triggered by stimulus has progressed over time; scientists now understand how reaction time works, what it is needed for, and what factors impact reaction time. Reaction time, like most subjects related to the brain, has an interesting history. At first, most scientists believed that mental processes in the human brain were too fast to be measured. However, a Dutch Physiologist named F.C. Donders started to think, about whether reaction time could be measured in 1965. Donder s thoughts were backed up by research done by a English scientist and inventor Charles Wheatstone. In 1840, Wheatstone conducted an experiment where a patient s foot was shocked. The test subject had to press a button using the hand that was on the same side as the foot that was shocked. Some patients knew which foot would be shocked and others did not know. Throughout human history, goods and services have always had intrinsic value to people, and in our day and age this is no different. Shopping, however, has changed quite a bit due to many different reasons. Prices of goods and services are now changed by companies based on psychology, supply and demand, and government influences to adapt themselves to the modern world. The most personal of these three factors is the direct psychology of pricing, from items costing $0.01 less than an even dollar amount to overcharging for soda at a fast food restaurant, prices are specifically engineered to optimize profits for a company. According to Judith Holdershaw, writer for the MarketingBulletin, the practice of ending prices with $0.99 is used because the human brain, in recognizing that $4.99 is closer to $5.00 than $4.00, has to do an extra mental step to carry the one. This may seem like an insignificant step, however when these memories are viewed in hindsight, the brain glosses over the extra step to convert the $0.99 to $1.00, which gives the consumer the impression of a lower cost, even when the nominal priceis practically identical. (Holdershaw) By pricing their products at one cent below a round number, producers can also establish price points, such that when manufacturing and transportation costs would suggest a product should be sold at $5.25, a producer can sell the product ... • 35. Burning Man Vs Burning Man The ability to awaken people s imagination toward an alternative way of living is crucial for social change. We feel powerless when facing world, believing that no one could really pull the formidable social forces that forged the current condition to another direction. As members in different communities, we torture people both inside and outside of our communities with unfair rules and unreasonable expectations while subjecting ourselves under the very same misery. We label certain groups of people with hostile and wicked moral characters while loathing ourselves for not having the ability to break out the boxes that are tabbed by stereotype. Yet, some of us refuse to accept such a doomed fate for the human race. Ayelet Shachar and Ran Hirschl undertake the mission of dismantling the deep rooted, socially constructed, unfair system of citizenship inheritance, while Jeffrie Murphy and Angela Davis venture to clear the names for imprisoned populations; Jamaica Kincaidendeavors to knock some sense out of the complacent Western tourists, while the hosting committee of Burning Manaims to create an two weeks, anti capitalism civilization. They attempt to challenge the symbolicassumptions that people always make toward groups of people (communities) and propose new possibilities upon which institution could be built to regulate these gatherings of people (communities) in a way that reduce the level of injustice and increase the level of equality. William wrote over 120 pieces, including sonnets, madrigals, and other secular works (William). William is best known for his development of the English madrigal. (Britannica) A madrigal is a choral piece for two to four people. In his song, Ave Verum Corpus , we can clearly hear this use of many choral voices. In fact, this effect can be found in a almost all of William s works. He took large risks by using two, three, four, or even more voices to blend perfect harmonies and use alternating melodies. The result is beautiful music that would be used, even today, by countless others. On aspect of his music is the joining of high and low voices. There are areas in his music where the low voices sing but the high voices do not and vice versa. Then, William does a splendid job of blending them together, using the differing pitches of the singers to compliment each others voices. The result is a full sound that is not too muddy and low, yet not too high and pitchy. His songs were almost always in Latin wording, including the constant use of the phrase Agnus Dei or Lamb of God . If listening very closely, one might be able to hear this phrase repeated in many of the works provided by William. A Viable Fetus Miriam Webster Medical Dictionary defines a viable fetus is capable of living outside the human uterus, weighing 500 grams or more, and the pregnancy is of 20 weeks in gestation. Not all pregnancies go as planned as more infants are born before full term, and sometimes between 22 24 weeks of gestation. These infants are at the verge of viability and sometimes resuscitation can lead to morbidity or mortality. Whether health care providers resuscitate or not is an ethical dilemma which all health care providers and family members have to struggle with when it comes to the premature baby as small as the viable fetus. Although recommendations have been made by organizations including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Nuffield Council on Bioethics, the decision to resuscitate is complex, requiring careful consideration of multiple factors related to each individual case (Powell, et al., 2012) If the infant survives after being resuscitated it may have long term heath issues which can be costly for the family, but some viable fetuses can survive without any negative consequences and live a healthy life. The question asked is Should an extremely premature baby be saved? This reaction did not surprise me in the slightest; it is a reflection of the unbalanced views we have regarding health, illness and our bodies. Our lives are filled with fear regarding dis ease. Will I be next? The statistics state me, or someone in my family will defiantly be struck by serious illness. The TV adverts appear to be ever increasing, filled with fear of what will happen to your family when you are taken by a dis ease, children are even shown saying goodbye to a parent, I have seen a baby used to highlight a dis ease. These adverts and the frequent messages we are given regarding dis ease, is ironically, very unhealthy. You will notice I am not naming specific dis eases, the names/words carry a vibration and we don t need the vibration of a dis ease and the energy it carries in this book or affecting you as you read. Therefore we can happily leave the names out. Just remember at all times what DIS EASE means, dis ease within the body, it is far less frightening and leaves the door wide open to go from DIS ease to EASE.

Effects Of Anatomical Parts Of Ephedra Sinica Ephedra (Ma Huang) is a genus of plant, most commonly derived from the dried herbaceous stems of the Chinese species, Ephedra sinica (Figure 1a and 1b). The natural plant source produces six Ephedra alkaloids, chemicals which are considered to be the active constituents of the plant; ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, norephedrine, norpseudoephedrine, methylephedrine and methylpsuedoephedrine (Figure 2) (Veitch et al., 2013). The presence and concentrations of these alkaloids depends primarily on the plant species, origin, growing conditions, and the raw plant material processing, with most species largely containing ephedrineand pseudoephedrine (Haller et al., 2004). Metabolomic studies have shown that anatomical parts of Ephedrasinica have different therapeutic pharmacological effects and for this reason, have been used for different purposes in medicine. This was demonstrated by Lv et al (2015), who used GC MS to compare the concentrations of Ephedra sinica in the stems (Ma Huang) and in the roots (Mahuanggen) of different plant samples. It was concluded that the pharmacologically important ephedrine alkaloids were present in higher quantities in the stems. This is why Ephedra herb, sold as dry stems of Ephedra sinica, has been used as a commercial source of ephedrine alkaloids worldwide, in particular Europe and America (Lee 2011).
