Essay On Unobtainable Beauty
Between movies, TV shows, magazines, and fashion everyday women are being bombarded with
an ever present ideal and standard of unobtainable beauty. In today s society it is especially easy to
stay connected to the media and the outside world through the internet and its various social
networks. This kind of access provides a nonstop stream of womenbeing exposed to perfect bodies,
perfect people, and what seems to be perfect lives. With the constant exposure to all of this it can
be hard for women to not compare themselves to the people they see online, which can leave to
devastating effects on the womans self esteem, self worth, and overall wellbeing. Marika
Tiggemann and Jessica Lynch conducted a study where they found that body dissatisfaction
remains as a constant for women throughout their lifespan and can impact a woman at any age
(2011). Body dissatisfaction is something the majority of women have to deal with at some point
or another, it is important to identify factors that can trigger this insecurity such as the media,
celebrities, and subliminal advertising in order to bring more awareness to the issue and make
changes that can lead a woman to having a healthier outlook on her outward appearance and an
overall higher satisfaction with her body. With media being so accessible in today s world
younger and younger people are logging on and being exposed to these unobtainable beauty
standards. In a study conducted by Duke University researchers found that 40% of

I Hear America Singing Tone
Each and every poem, passage, and novel as tone. Tone can set the mood and can emotions out of
the author s audience. It can portray the feelings of the character or the author. In the poems, I
Hear America Singing and I, Too Sing America, both has very translucent tones that differ from
each other. The poem I Hear America Singing has a tone that gives the poem a more rhapsodic and
ebullient. The poem s tone is more vibrant than the other poem, I,Too Sing America. According to
the poem, it portrayed the poem s tone to be more titillated by stating, ,Those of mechanics, each
one singing his as it should be blithe and strong. That gives the imagery of strong, enduranced men
that enjoy their jobs because they are singing while working.

Emerson Thematic Statement
Write a thematic statement for the essay Self Reliance . Explain how Emerson s idea of Self
Reliance is different from and similar to the common use of the term (take care of your own
needs and don t depend on others outside yourself). The essay Self Reliance is different from the
definition of only thinking of one s own needs in the sense that Emerson explains that one
should not only depend on themselves but to also not submit to the majority of ideas in society
and obey by one s own beliefs. Emerson relates being independent or Self Reliant to the genuine
feelings of an individual and how it should be taken pride of rather than pushed away by the
conformities of society. Give 5 examples of figurative language and analyze how Emerson uses
them to convey his message of self reliance (Hint: your analysis should link back to the purpose
you mention in the thematic statement above). 1 Joint Stock Company: The meaning of this word
is a company owned by multiple shareholders, but Emerson uses it in the sense of America being
bound together through majority belief systems, but individual ideas should be recognized as
well. 2 Sculpture: A sculpture is described as a carving of a 3D object, Emerson uses it as a term
for explaining the memories that make a significant deal in society and being significant
individually 3 Befriends: Acting like a friend, helping someone out, used by Emerson, he explains
that befriending represents the good that is brought into the world

The Joy Luck Club By Amy Tan
A natural part of life and human nature is that bonds can end due to a difference in opinion. This is
the case within the novel The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, as the American daughters of the China
born mothers grow up in perpetual disconnect because of their cultural differences. Consequently,
the daughters view of their mother s loveis distorted. Without a clear comprehension of their mother
s love, which is shown in forms of her words and actions, the daughters are constantly haunted by
life s difficulties. Thus, The Joy Luck Clubemphasizes that a bond between a mother and daughter
is important because it provides an opportunity to understand a mother s love and subsequently,
allows her to overcome the difficulties of life. This is illustrated through a mother s sacrifices
providing hope, a mother s guidance overcoming sorrow, and a mother s wisdom protecting desires.
To begin, daughters will overcome hopeless aspects of life if they understand her mother s sacrifice.
Bitterness can overtake one s life; however sacrifices can be inspirational examples to combat it.
When An Mei s mother suicides out of bitterness, An Mei learns to become one who is hopeful
about life:
I was falling from the sky down to the ground, into a pond. And I became a little turtle lying at
the bottom of this watery place. [...] I was crying hard, so many tears, but they drank and drank, so
many of them, until I had no more tears left and the pond was empty, everything as dry as sand
(Tan 239).

The Economy Of Lebanon Is A Developing Economy
The economy of Lebanon is a developing economy, with a private sector that contributes to 75%
of aggregate demand and a large banking sector that supports this demand. The IMF forecast a
growth of 7% for Lebanon s real GDP in 2010 and 2011 following 9% growth in 2009 and 8.5%
in 2008. It has the 54th richest GDP per capita in the world, and it is forecasted that Lebanon s
GDP per capita will reach 20,000 by 2015, making it one of the strongest economies in the
region. However, the Lebanese economy was badly affected by the Syrian civil war. The
institute of international finance forecasted a GDP growth of 0.7% for 2013. The major
industrial sectors include metal products, banking, agriculture, chemicals, and transport
equipment. Lebanon has a competitive and free market regime and a strong laissez faire
commercial tradition. The Lebanese economy is service oriented; main growth sectors include
banking and tourism. There are no restrictions on foreign exchange or capital movement. Macro

Effectiveness Of Public Services On Performance Management
Andrews (2014) pulled together considerable amounts of research about performance management
from around the world and came to four conclusions:
1. The effectiveness of public services can be enhanced by the use of performance management.
Leading to, citizens benefitting from a positive impact and improved outcomes.
2. Efficiency savings are not always a direct result of performance management alone, if
organisations want to save budgets they may need alternatives ideas.
3. Ground level performance measures prove most effective, however it is important to look at
learning through comparisons with similar organisations, this allows healthy competition.
4. Where performance indicators widely have public support, such as NHS waiting times, is the
area where performance management proves most effective in delivering improvements. However,
performance management effectiveness may be influenced by several other factors including
leadership and organisational culture.
It is an fascinating time for performance management which is being closely questioned and looked
at by those wanting to understand some of the the key challenges in practice, and how successful
performance management is providing better outcomes for citizens. Outcomes are often defined as
outcomes for effectiveness (improving how we do things) and outcomes for efficiency (doing
things in a more cost effective way). (Wolf and Fry 2013). Both of these outcomes are central to
the NHS performance framework.

The Observation Of Elephants
What species performs burials, has the ability to cry, and form many complex relationships
throughout their lives? Elephants. Since many individuals might have guessed humans or primates
first, this one question shows the complexity of this species. Transition This paper tries to answer
one main question: How does elephantbehavior, both in captive and wild settings, provide data that
can lead to evidence based practices for building captive enclosures, daily activities, and help with
conservation practices, both in captivity and in the wild. For this discussion, I am going to focus on
the family, Elephantidae, as a whole. Though some might argue that the genus Loxodonta (African)
and Maximus (Asian) should be analyzed separately, I find the... Show more content on

It is hard to create and provide hard evidence to support this ideal when there is not a linguistic way
to communicate between humans and other species. For the purposes of this discussion I will use
Breed and Moore s definition: Cognition is the ability of an animal to separate itself from the
moment in which it is living and to contemplate the past, predict the future, and act accordingly
(2016). Cognition experiments on elephants did not begin until the late 1950 s, starting with
Rensch s study on memory. Since than scientist s have tested/ studied problem solving, rituals,
emotions, deception, casual reasoning, tool making, and tool use within elephants with many
having positive results (Plotnik et al., 2010). One aspect of cognition that has been tested in many
primates in the recent years is the mirror self recognition test; this is considered the basic level of
cognition. Plotnik and colleagues completed this test with three female elephants at the Bronx Zoo
(2010). This test involves three stages, where each shows a level of recognition. Though none of the
elephants passed the mark part of the test, they showed many other characteristics that indicated self
recognition (that was in other species like chimpanzees and bottle nose dolphins). However, the
discrepancy could be due to the way elephants identify one another: through touch, sounds, and
smell, which a mirror cannot replicate (Plotnik et

Similarities Between Equations And Inequalities
In Algebra, we have been learning about Equations and Inequalities, and how you can solve them in
the same ways. Though, They re both very similar and both very different in their own ways, which
makes it difficult to find the differences.
But, There are also many similarities between them. The way that the two are similar is that you
can solve both problems the same way, for example:
If you had 2x + 2 = 10
You d solve it by subtracting 2 with 10, which would result in an 8.
2x + 2 = 10
2x = 8
After this, you d divide 2 with 2, and 2 with 8, which would give you a 4.
So the answer would be X = 4. So 4 would be the only answer.
2x + 2 = 10
2x = 8
X = 4
If you did this with an IneQuality, it would turn out the same, except if you divide ... Show more

Since its all numbers less than 4, we d have an open circle since it isn t equal to 4. And there s an
arrow pointing towards the left since its all numbers less than 4.
But, if it was all numbers greater than 4, it would be like this:
3 4 5
Despite the two having a couple differences and a couple similarities, both can be used in the world
around us, since, depending on the symbol you use, you d still get the same answer nonetheless.
However, there still are more differences between the two.
Even if you do the Math equation the same, the symbols can cause the answer to shift, and make it
so the two aren t the same.
For example:
If you used 12x + 6 = 6 (2x+1 )
You d start by multiplying the 6 by 2, since the 6 is next to a parenthesis symbol, which would
give you 12, and you d multiply the 6 with 1, which would give you 6 in return.
12x + 6 = 6 (2x+1)
12x + 6 = 12x+6
tHEN, YOU D SUBTRACT 12 BY ITSELF, AND WITH THE OTHER 12, WHICH WOULD
MAKE THE ANSWER 6 = 6, MAKING IT AN INFINITE SOLUTION.
12x + 6 = 6 (2x+1)
12x + 6 = 12x+6
6 = 6
bUT, IF YOU DID THIS WITH AN INEQUALITY, YOU D GET A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT

My Experience At My Church
Have you ever felt like you were getting called upon to do something? I ve experienced this after
my dad passed away. I felt God calling me to serve my church. I started to become more active in
my church s faithful followers group. I felt God come into my life. I got the chance to go on this
amazing tripthat changed my life around.
I was sitting in my confirmation class on Sunday afternoon, when my teacher, Melanie, was talking
about all the upcoming events. She had an eye catching video about the National Catholic Youth
Conference or NCYC. The group from two years about created the video. They went into detail of
what we d get out of the trip. The thing that stuck out the most was the unique feeling of God s
presents. It was time to pay for our spot on this trip. The cost was $50, so you would have a seat
on the bus. This frightened me because I didn t know if I wanted to go for sure. I was going to
be around 200,000 other people, only seven being ones from my church. Preparing for this trip
was time consuming. We had to dedicate all our free time this summer to setting up fundraisers.
The trip was $510 per person. Our fundraising consisted of selling Pastry Puffins, bake sales, and
50/50 tickets. Also there were people who would donate so they could get a free pancake
breakfast out of the deal. We had meetings on top of meetings. We had to think of every possible
thing we could to make this trip possible. We discussed trading items for weeks. We finally figured

The Story behind Diamonds
Diamonds are one of the most popular minerals in the world and yet people are not aware of the
circumstances it takes to acquire this such unique mineral. Many people would agree when I say
that this mineral is such a nice thing to look at, but few people actually know what it is made of
and how it was formed. These precious minerals are composed of Carbon. The process to making
this immaculate mineral is as following. First, you must bury Carbon dioxide deep into the earth;
approximately, 100 miles deep. Second, you must heat the substance at a temperature of 2,200
degrees fahrenheit. Next, squeeze or tightly compact the substance under pressure of 725,000
pounds per square inch. Finally, it must quickly rush to the earths surface to cool off. All this must
be done just to create diamond. Luckily for some men, scientist have created an alternative of the
mined diamonds, it is a synthetic diamond composed of the same things and look almost
identical. So if you re planning to pop the big question soon you have options with that part of the
proposal. When you think of the price of real diamonds you might think that they are pretty
expensive and what makes them so special. Along with its looks, it is a rare mineral that still has a
high demand. The places where you can find high concentrations are usually far away. As a matter
of fact, the location that has the largest concentration of diamonds is in central and southern Africa.
It is reported that they have 49% of

The Tradition Of The Church Of Christ
Introduction Over the years, many people have seen their lives transformed spiritually through their
practices and adherence to the application of scriptures, prayer and spiritual traditions. Therefore,
churches express their spirituality through different traditions and practices based on the emphasis
placed on that particular tradition. Fundamentally, in identifying these traditions Richard Foster
placed them in six categories, namely, contemplative, holiness, charismatic, social justice,
evangelical, and incarnation. Although, these traditions are central to our Christian faith each
church has demonstrated a tendency to prefer the practice of one over the other (Spiritual
Formation, in Class notes, 2013).

In addition, the holiness tradition emphasizes imitating the character and nature of Jesus. In which
Jesus laid the foundation on which the church live. The evidence is established in the accountability
of its members in keeping with the standards in the Bible. I Peter 1:16 (NIV) Be Holy because I am
holy. Hence, each member strives to purify and sanctify their lives through the renunciation of
shameful and sinful ways. Therefore, the focus is conforming to the standard of Jesus, to reflect his
glory. Further, the church continues to strive in their efforts to live a virtuous life despite
discouragement, temptations, doubt and fears that might distract them at times (Spiritual
Formation, in class notes, 2014).
Explain three ways in which that tradition is practiced
Three ways in which the evangelical and holiness tradition are practice is as follows, application
of the word, discipleship and living a virtuous life. In applying the word to their daily lives the
Church is edified as they grow more into the likeness of Christ. A central aspect of this is reading
the Bible each day and living according to it. Notwithstanding, the word comes to the church in
many ways. Through preaching and teaching, encouragement or rebuke from brothers and sisters or
others around us. Central to the teachings of the Church is that the word is applicable to

A Life Beyond Do What You Love, By Dr. Gordon Marino
The Sunday Night Blues: a case about 59% of Americans come down with every Sunday night
before starting the work week ahead. These people absolutely dread going to work every week,
the majority of them wishing they could be able to quit their jobs and chase after their passions.
A highly credible philosophical professor named Dr. Gordon Marino, made an entire article
arguing why it would be inadequate and unethical for someone to quit a job that is necessary in
order to provide for something bigger than oneself, that working or indulging in comfortable
positions makes people miss out on the traditional connection of talent and duty. In Dr.Marino s
article, A Life Beyond Do What You Love , he creates an effective argument about the traditional
standard of self fulfillment which is the capability of being able to avoid indulging in personal
interests in order to serve something bigger than oneself. He builds his main argument by using
anecdotes and hypophora s to introduce the central investigation of his article, then addresses
strong counter arguments to his stance, and finally, uses highly credible historians to appeal
ethically to the audience. He adopts a philosophical tone in order to appeal to similar experiences
or thoughts his adult audience may have. Marino begins to build up his analysis of his main
argument by acknowledging several anecdotes in the article to demonstrate his experience and
credibility as to why people should develop talents in order to

The Impact Of Modernism
Jonathan Glance , author of the book 20th Century Architecture ; The Structures That Shaped The
Century describes modernism as an attitude rather than a style an attempt to free the architect from
the rules of convention. Form following function was an attribute adopted by architectural
modernists. As a result of this, modern architectureis no longer ornamentally focused but uses
materials such as concrete, glass, steel and wood for functional construction. With reference to Le
Corbusier and his architectural masterpiece, Ville Savoye, this essay will discuss and analyze the
impact the industrial revolution had on modernism, the influence the Bauhaushad on architectural
development, social and economical effects that influenced social trends, how modernism was
received and reviewed by society and why the modernist dream ultimately failed.

Decompartmentation is made up of three aspects: ascetics technics and society.
Decompartmentation is when things that are normally categorized into groups are now not
distributed but used together in order to achieve a desired result. He believed that design could be
used as a solution to solve the alienation in modern, urban society and thus using
decompartmentalization in linking social problems and design to create a solution. It was meant to

modernism. Due to this critic it reiterates that Le Corbusier did initially solve many of the social
issues such as creating more land space by building upwards, building houses out of cheaper
materials to help provide to those effected by the economic crisis and creating houses without
ornamentation. However due to his neglect in focusing on the comfort of people living in these

The Death Penalty Should Not Be Legal
There are currently over 16,000 people legally sentenced to death worldwide. The State of Texas
has 271 people on death row, the third most in America, but has executed the most people in the
country. Twenty five people have been executed this year in the U.S.; twelve of those have been
executed in Texas (Facts). The death penalty must be abrogated because it is an ineffective,
antiquated, and expensive form of punishment.
Punishment by death has been around since Babylonian times, when the Code of Hammurabi
introduced it. Since then, it has not evolved other than becoming more of a life for a life
proposition. Studies show that the death penalty does not deter crime. Laws that are punishable by
death are premeditated. People who are willing to die committing crimes do them anyways. A life
for a life is not justice it is revenge.
In addition to being useless, the death penalty is also an antiquated form of castigation. The time
preceding execution can be agony for an inmate.
Imagine spending 23 hours a day in a cement enclosure the size of a bathroom. Now imagine sitting
in that small room nearly all day, every day without respite, for a year, five years, even 10 years.
How long before you become restless and lonely? How long before you start pacing and talking to

History And Philosophy Of Ancient Philosophy

History of Ancient Philosophy
Fall 2016
Final Exam Sec. A (10:00)
Question #1 A principle is a fundamental source or basis of something. A principle cannot be
proven, because to prove something we have to go back to the basics and principle is basis of
everything. Although, what most philosophers seem to be doing to prove the validity of their
theories is by showing that if we accept something else as a principle it would make no sense.
The Pre Socratic philosophers were all searching for that one fundamental principle of reality
that everything is based on. That factor was called arche, which literally means beginning, origin
or a source of something. The Pre Socratic philosophers are called that because they all came
before Socrates, and he is a major figure in ancient philosophy, because he was the first person to
develop it as a distinct kind of knowledge. Most of the early philosophers were looking for a
materialistic arche.
Thales of Miletus (624 546 BC) is considered to be the first philosopher and he considered water
to be the fundamental principle of everything. He thought that all things were composed of water,
because it could take all three forms (liquid, solid and gas). He also observed that all living things
needed water to stay alive and grow. Aristotle wrote about Thales views: nourishment of all things

Research Approach And Inductive Approach
When choosing the research approach, when the selection between deductive approach and
inductive approach both are suitable for the research. Deductive approach is when theory and
hypothesis are built up after reading literature and the testing theory and hypothesis is tested.
Inductive approach is focused on the testing theory. When this theory developed from the analysis
of collected data which depend on building theory (Saunders etal., 2003). So, the chosen method is
the deductive approach. First of all, we started to read the different literature to find the theories of

Legal Considerations And Legal Law Essay
1Introduction Legal formalism has been largely criticised by the likes of legal realists and
critical legal studies scholars, amid others who believed that the reactions of the judge to the
facts and to the life around them needed to be attended to, for its belief in the capacity of legal
rules to determine the results of legal arguments without having recourse to the judge s political
beliefs or sense of fairness. This criticism can be found to be viable or not by analysing what
legal formalism as an approach to legal practice and judicial decisions is, whether the criticisms,
created by legal realists and critical legal studies students, of legal formalism are justified and
whether judicial decisions and legal education are still influenced by legal formalism today in
South Africa. 2Legal formalism Legal formalism is a legal theory which believes that the law is
to be determined rationally. It is a theory that is important when looking as various aspects of
South African law. This approach is both literalist and formalist at the same time. A legal
formalist belief in the determinacy of legal rules sees judges deciding cases on the basis of
distinctively legal rules, uninfluenced by political or policy considerations. Legal formalism is a
theory with which lawyers and judges see the law as autonomous, comprehensive, logically
ordered, and determinate and believe that judges should engage in pure mechanical conclusion
from this body of law to produce a single correct

Celebrity Worship Is A Common Day Ritual
Nowadays, celebrity worship is considered a common day ritual, as it is performed by millions
of people around the world. However, this practice has been a disease to the world and continues
to conflict the youth with deranged goals and aspirations. Misconceptions of what an idealistic
worship lifestyle are inevitable, considering that the definition of a worshipper gets modified every
year. The primary reasons as to why CelebrityWorship is a poison to the world and why it must be
stopped is due to the fact that it distracts the person from focusing on what is important in life, it
provides an unstable relationship with a celebrity which can get psychotic, and it can create
inadequate goals and aspirations for one to follow.

Weishar also gives an example on the fact that although there are people who do not give in to
the hype that the media creates on these celebrities, there are still millions of people who buy
into it. Not everyone buys into this corporate pop culture non sense, and not all pop culture is
created by corporations. Social media has allowed us to create our own pop culture behind the
scenes, but at the same time we follow trends more than ever and they are often dictated by
celebrities on outlets like twitter. Celebrities like Kardashian who get paid $10,000 every time
she promotes a product in 140 characters or less (par. 13). In a society that has been enveloped
by social media, these celebrities have more power than ever before, and they utilize this niche
by creating several social trends that they know the majority will follow. With new trends created
every day, and celebrities dictating on how people should live their lives, how does this benefit
the population on focusing on what s necessary? Aside from the distractions that it causes,
celebrity worship creates delusional relationships with these idols. They create a connection with
celebrities and due to their obsession, they will feel as if they have became friends with the idol,
even though the idol has not met the person. This creates an image of a false connection being
made with a celebrity who does not even

Gavin Grimm Case Summary
The supreme court case that I decided on was the case of Gavin Grimm v. Gloucester County
School Board (ED. VA.) (Unknown, 2017). This case is about an 18 year old male that attends a
Virginia high school in Gloucester County Virginia. Gavin has male features and facial hair like
a male and a deep voice like a male; however, he is in the process of being a transgender. The
problem is Gavin uses the men s restroom and is fighting for a transgender restroom throughout the
school. The school board s policy denies transgender students access to the restrooms used by rest
of the student body because it violates the Title IX of the EducationAmendments of 1972

Comparison Of Jose Mourinho And Pep Guardiola
Before we go any further, it s integral for a better understanding of the research paper that the
common element between the two books be known, or else, a critical comparison won t make
sense at all. To begin with, the most obvious ground on which to relate the two books is that both
are sports biographies that talk of Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola s personalities as well as their
managerial careers, making the two somewhat similar in the sense that the focus has mainly been
laid on the individual with reference to his achievements it s not the other way around. The tone is
similar, it s just the manner that differs. Again, every man and his dog knows about the fierce

He is also the author of A Season on the Brink, an insider s account of Liverpool s 2004 05
Champions League winning campaign. The book is a fascinatingly astounding reflection of
Pep Guardiola s Barcelona adventures and what he did that transformed FC Barcelona from a
then underachieving club to arguably the greatest club side of all time with players such as
Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Carles Puyol, Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique, Victor Valdes and many more.
Perhaps, the best part about the book is that it rubbishes all the undermining bunkum (with facts
to back it up) often impetuously spoken about Pep Guardiola by some of the most pretentious
pundits one is ever likely to come across. There is a general tendency among fans and experts
alike to deride, and even denounce Pep by handing over his success to Lionel Messi alone,
which many believe is right. However, in his book, BalaguГ© expatiates that it always wasn t
about Messi and his excellence. Yes, the team was created around and for him, but the ones
around him were match winners themselves, players who could step up the time you needed them
the most to, and an example of that was their sextuple winning season of 2008 09 Pep s first as
Barcelona s boss. BalaguГ© writes, Pep Guardiola touched the sky in his very first experience as a

Theodore Roosevelt once said, If you could kick the person in the pants responsible for most of

their own actions and the consequences that occur as a result of those actions. In The Crucible,
John Proctor is more responsible for his own death than Elizabeth Proctor or Mary Warren. John
Proctor is mainly responsible for his own death. He had an affair with Abigail Williams, which
led to her becoming obsessed with him. Abigail was so determined to be with Proctor that she

The Short Term Mission Trips
Think about the poverty and problems that all countries around the world are facing today and
every day. As Americans we have an urge to go into these countries to help as much as possible
because of that we have begun a revolution. Americans began going on mission trips around the
1960s but did not really pick up until the 1990s. The trend grew after multiple natural disasters,
Americans saw and need and went, since then short term missiontrips show no sign stopping
anytime soon. As the popularity of leaving our comfort zones, many people have found issues with
the way the trips are led to the extent of questioning whether or not these trips are really worth the
amount of money and time that they consume. Through periodicals, interviews, narratives, and
articles, I will show the issues and improvements that could be made to the living situations, attitude
of the Americans, and relationships that are acquired during the short term mission trips.
In October of 1998, Hurricane Mitch slammed onto the coasts of multiple South American
countries. Countless people lost their homes, over eleven thousand people lost their lives, and
the hurricane left five billion dollars worth of damage in its wake ( Hurricane Mitch ). This
event caused a new wave of events also of short term mission trips. Americans seeing the cities
torn to shreds decided to act. For a couple of weeks at a time, different groups would go clean up,

The Origins of Voodoo Essay
The Origins of Voodoo Voodoo is a religion rich in heritage and founded in faith and community.
The religion has been villainized by western culture and has been wrongly portrayed as
malignant and dangerous. The religion is not founded in any of the (known) black magics or fear
popularized by Hollywood films, but rather it is based on balance and tradition. The religion is
not something that should be encountered with inhibition or fear induced from childhood horror
stories, but embraced for its strength and history. Voodoo originated as an amalgam of African
religions during the slave trade. As slaves were shipped from Africa to the Caribbean, groups of
slaves sharing a similar heritage were broken apart to prevent any sense of... Show more content on

In the three centuries of religious oppression, voodoo became a symbol of pride and
independence for the slaves. Any pride in a slave is, of course, regarded as a threat to the slave
owner. Rumors of human sacrifice and devil worship became prevalent in the social circles of
plantation owners and slave traders. These statements had no validity, but traveled quickly
throughout the Caribbean and America. The practitioners of voodoo embraced this fear as
means to frighten their former masters and gain some respect in a world where they were
deprived of everything. Former slave owners quickly found themselves duped into the beliefs of
voodoo dolls and hexes. Of course, many slave owners simply killed their slaves rather than be
frightened by the voodoo. The practice itself is not actually frightening or powerful in any way,
but that doesn?t matter to superstitious folks like those in Salem. No historical evidence of
human sacrifice or affiliation with Satan has been discovered (Voodoo), or likely ever will be.
Primary religions involved in the African aspect of voodoo are Macumba and Candomble of the
Yoruba people of Nigeria, and several now extinct tribes from the Congos and Cameroon. These
religions lay the groundwork for the course of religious ceremonies and contain the origins for the
deities worshipped in modern voodoo. Voodoo?s principle deity, Olorun is the voodoo equivalent to
God. Though the name can be traced to the Yoruba tribe, it is unknown if

How Prison Life Really Works Essay
How prison life really works Prison life is much harsher than jail. In prison you stay inside until
you are done with your sentence or until you die; jail is nothing compared to prison. Each prisoner
is locked out from the outside world. Each inmate is in there for different crimes they have
committed outside and inside the prison. It is very interesting to see how the inmates survive in
prison and how they adapt to their new lives because in prison they are blocked from the outside
world. The inmates don t exist to the people on the outside anymore. Violence is a big part of the
problem in prison because everywhere in prison someone gets hurt. The weaker inmates get

The violence between the inmates is brutal. Some inmates use violence to show others that they
are the strongest and that they are in charge of the whole prison and other inmates that are under
their protection. They take control of everything that is going on inside the prison. In the article
of Enforcing the Convict Code: Violence and Prison Culture, it talks about how violence in
prison differs between women and men, For instance, while both women and men used violence
to control the behavior of others, men tended to use it more often while women tended to use
rumors , gossip, and avoidance to deal with bothersome inmates. The inmates use violence to gain
control of the prison. Violence happens when inmates talk or say terrible things about each other.
To a large extent there is violence between the inmates because either they don t get along with
each other, or they can t trust one another. In the article of Enforcing the Convict Code: Violence
and Prison Culture by Rebecca Trammell, mates understand violence as a social process the
inmates only understand that violence is a process that they have to live with, it is their life to

The Use of Humor in Richard Iii by Shakespeare
The Use of Humor in Richard III
There is no doubt that Shakespeare was the author of great pieces of literature during an interesting
time period. Given the circumstances, he was indeed mastering his craft during a very tumultuous
juncture in British history. When one reads Richard III, they don t necessarily have to know a
great deal about the War of Roses to understand that there is some serious strife going on.
However, if the reader takes some time to understand this fascinating string of events, the story of
Richard and his fall becomes much more interesting. In all of his brilliance, Shakespeare manages
to toy with the idea of humor in this very morose play. As a matter of fact, he does this in many, if
not all of his tragedies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the dialogue picks up again, and the bitterness continues. After she exits, they all talk to
each other, pretty much asking, what the heck was that all about?
The next scene also has some prime examples of humor in this play. Here, two murderers are sent
to kill Clarence. The text is so rich in indirectly describing the demeanor of these two, and the
reader undoubtedly chuckles when reading the dialogue between the two of them. Primarily,
the reader sees this in lines 110 115: I ll go back to the duke of Gloucester and tell him so.
/ Please, just wait a minute. I m hoping my holy mood will pass. / It usually only lasts about
twenty seconds. / How are you feeling now? / Actually, I m still feeling some pangs of
conscience. / Even in modern times, the idea of a conscience coming and going instead of being
unwavering is funny. Even funnier is the thief being aware of this, and saying, hang on, it ll pass
, as if his holy conscience were a case of bad gas or something like that. Further on, the two
murderers talk about conscience, and how nobody would listen to it even if it flew out of a wallet.
Of course, no Shakespeare play would be complete without the use of puns. Shakespeare uses this
type of humor as a witty way to keep the dialogue fresh and flowing. The reader gets a taste of
these funny little bits as early as the first act and first scene, when Brakenbury starts, With this, my
lord, myself have naught to

R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company Case Study
1.R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company was founded in 1875 and has grown to become one of the
largest operating tobacco countries in the world. This company was founded by Richard Joshua
Reynolds, who was a 25 year old who started his own chewing tobacco manufacturing operation in
North Carolina. Reynolds was the first to introduce pipe tobaccos and went on to revolutionize the
entire cigarette industry.
Reynolds American have always had a focus on innovation and transforming the tobacco industry,
which is prevalent not only in their business now, but also in their past success. For example, in
1931, they were the first company to package cigarettes with a moisture proof, sealed cellophane
outer wrap which worked to preserve freshness. This had not been done before but helped them
break away from competitors as it was more enticing for consumers to purchase.
R.J. Reynolds has been acquiring multiple large companies in their industry so that their own
company can grow and continue to develop. In 1970, Reynolds Industries was formed as the new
parent company of R.J. Reynolds, then in 1985 they followed on to acquire Nabisco Brands and
were renamed to RJR Nabisco. Through 2002 to 2006, they acquired both Santa Fe Natural Tobacco
company and Conwood Company, giving Reynolds American incredible scale and strength within
their industry.

Imagery In Farenheit 451
Imagery is describing an author s use of vivid description that evokes the reader to feel as if they

John Locke s Second Treatise on Government presents a contrast of ideas comparing the law of
nature and the government. Locke begins to explain the meaning and purpose behind the law of
nature. Locke states that the law of nature teaches us that all mankind is equal and has the right to
independence. No one is allowed to harm another s life, liberty, health and possessions. Locke
exclaims how one man does not hold a higher status than another man. With that being said, a man
must learn how to preserve the rest of mankind. Every man has the right to initiate punishment and
be executioner of the law of nature . Although as the excerpt moves to chapter nine, Locke
discusses why one would give up their freedom in order to join a society with others.

Some examples are white sand on the coliseum floor, gold and brown coliseum walls, and red
rose petals falling around Maximus. Without this use of colour change the audience would find it
more difficult to tell that the hero experienced a radical journey from a general to a slave to a
gladiator, then a hero. As the trailer begins, slow images combined with Written Words are used to
give the target audience time to familiarise themselves with the story of Maximus. For example the
first few shots are of Russell Crowe as a general, then a slave, then a gladiator. This makes it clear
to the audience who the main character is and helps to set the scene. Then the images start to
become faster and more exciting. This is achieved by using rapid cuts which increases the viewer

overturned chariots. A shot of a chariot overturning and the image of a horse jumping through

doesn t want the audience to miss them. Also by encapsulating a shot of Commodus screaming at

have also discovered that due to lack of recombination the Y chromosome goes through, there is a
specific point in the genewhere mutations accumulate (MSY) in almost all primates (Wimmer et

Evidence supports that most likely, with male extinction comes primate extinction. This is because
crucial maternal genes are sometimes activated through males on their Y chromosomes (Marvan et
al., 2005). But there is still a possibility, as the loss of the Y chromosome after relocation of the
SRY gene might prove successful for humans. However, evidence shows that when a Y
chromosome becomes functionless species are readily capable to adapt to male less conditions
(Marvan et al., 2005). Studies of the Y chromosome have shown the importance of mapping out its
evolutionary history in order to better understand why the Y chromosome looks and functions the
way it does. Its divergence outside of the monotremes showed that primates have ancestral Y
chromosome relationships with earlier mammals that independently evolved from other sex
chromosome. Similarly, the variation of male specific genes, such as DAZ, display how significant
the modification of the Y chromosome truly can be. Its susceptibility to evolutionary pressures such
as mutation, genetic drift, and natural selection. a The Y chromosome s potential for being
preserved across lineages is relatively high. Although, some mutation can occur occasionally during

Research Paper On Bitcoins
What are Bitcoins and How do They Work? Unlike dollars and Euros, bitcoins are wholly virtual.
They are being touted as substitutes for normal currencies in the years to come. This is evidenced
by the growing number of organizations and business establishments that are accepting
cryptocurrencies. Bitcoins are the most popular cryptocurrencies. This virtual currency was
created in 2009 by a mysterious figure only identifiable as Nakamoto Satoshi. His true identity
has never been known. Bitcoins have appreciated in value from the cents they were worth in 2009
to the current of $20,000 apiece in December 2017. Bitcoins are decentralized as they are not
regulated by any central authority. It represents a peer to peer method of payment where a... Show

bitcoins on that specific day. Once you have made an order for the purchase of bitcoins, this is
information is stored in a public ledger. On this ledger, the balance on each wallet address is
publicly displayed. This helps ensure that there is transparency in the buying and selling. After
buying the virtual currency, you can then use it to transact online. You can spend it on companies
that accept bitcoins as a medium of payment. Alternatively, you can just buy the currency and wait
for it to appreciate then sell it for a profit. All the information regarding the purchase and the
selling of cryptocurrencies is stored in a block chain. What this technology does is to confirm that
the individual or organization spending the virtual currency owns them. This helps in prevention of
double spending and fraud. Pros of Bitcoins The use of this virtual currency has several
advantages. For instance, being the first cryptocurrency in the market, it enjoys the first mover
advantage. It s always ahead of other currencies such as Litecoin, Ripple and Dash. Another
advantage with bitcoins is that its supply is fixed. That means that it will never be subjected to
inflation. The value will keep increasing due to the increased demand but fixed supply. Since its
operations are decentralized, transacting in cryptocurrencies costs less and the lead times are
shorter. The transactions are

My First Trip To Disneyland
Let s get lost in the world of fantasy! Have you ever been somewhere that you enjoyed a lot? A
place where children smile, beaming in bliss and adults flying back to their childhood innocence.
A place where you seem to walk into the movies of your childhood memories, those movies that
you watched hoping to become one of those beautiful princesses or one of those brave heroes. A
place that promises that dreams come true. I remembered my first trip to Disneyland in Tokyo,
Japan last year quite well. I was very fascinated with the Disney s New Fantasylandzone. The zone
was full of enchantment, it was decorated with shops and home of Disney princesses, also there
were many interesting rides and foods related to the theme of each Disney characters. Visiting
Disney s Fantasyland zone in Japan gave me the most memorable and happiest moment that
fulfilled my childhood memory and totally made my dream comes true.
It was a chilling cold windy day on Christmas eve. The winter breeze woke me up and reminded
me of an exciting day to come. My family and I walked down the quiet street under the dark blue
sky but my heart was pounding with excitement. We got off at JR Maihama station and took the
Disney resort line monorail linking to Tokyo Disneyland station. As soon as the monorail door

Of all the personal and psychological variables that have attracted researchers in this area of
educational achievement, motivation seems to be gaining more popularity and leading other
variables (Tella, 2003). All the above stated reasons, for persistent failure in mathematics, which
have been proffered, bear relevant in one way or the other to the poor performance of pupils in
mathematics. This has lead to a cycle of events that could be illustrated thus: When explaining
the illustration above (Aremu, 1998) explained that; when pupils express lack of interest in the
subject, it affects the way they react or listen to the teacher. And when many of the pupils believe
that they cannot pass, the teacher is also affected. This is because aside of this negative response
from the pupils, he/she as well is already being confronted by a lot of other factors (e.g., low
income, low status in society, large teacher pupils ratio) and so on. These may cause him or her to
resorts to the easiest way of disseminating knowledge that is chalk and talk without the use of
instructional materials. He may not also bother to vary his teaching styles to suit individuals;
therefore the cycle goes on (Aremu 1998). One unfortunate outcome of this is that,

Third Gender
In society, the biological difference between men and women is used as a justification for aligning
them with different social roles which restrict and mold their attitudes and behavior. Merriam
Webster defines gender as the behavioral, cultural, or psychological traits typically associated with
one sex. Narrow minded society of today is not satisfied with the natural difference of sex, but each
insist on adding a cultural difference of genderto it. The unsophisticated, ideal physical facts
always become associated with the complex psychological qualities (Holter). It is not enough for a
male to be a man; he must also be masculine. A woman, in addition to being a female, must be

From a historical stand point, it was always assumed that the head of the household was always
the male. Today s society have groomed people to believe and expect a man to be brave,
industrious and domineering, whereas a woman is suppose to be submissive and nurturing
(263). Men have also been raised to believe that their feelings and emotions are suppose to be
hidden from others and should be dealt with internally. With creating this society, men will be
able to express themselves without ridicule. Men will be able to continue to provide for their
families, as well as maintaining a clean image without being labeled as queer. Men will have an
overall promising and positive impact on society by creating a community where children will
have positive male figure in their lives. This new type of man, one who is sensitive, caring and
not afraid to vent his feelings will still be able to carry the burden of taking care of the household
and the children in the event there is absence of the mother. The female and androgynous
perception of a man will eliminate the dominance of a male s ego.
Androgyny is a word made up of two Greek roots. Andro which means males; whereas, gyn means
female (Woodhill, 18). Androgyny is the state or condition of having a high degree of both
feminine and masculine traits (18). Under these circumstances, human beings have loosely defined
impulses and are free to

A mass shooting is defined as one that kills or injures 4 or more people. In 2015 alone there was
372 mass shootings in the U.S in 2015 that killed 475 people and wounded 1,870. The largest
mass shooting in America happened in Las Vegas on October 1, 2017. In Las Vegas, the
gunman (Stephen Paddock) opened fire on a crowd at a Route 91 Harvest music festival.
Stephen Paddock killed 59 people and injured 527. Before this, the largest mass shooting had
been in June 12, 2016 when a 29 year old security guard killed 49 people and wounded 53 others

The amount of mass shootings in Australia dropped to zero after the gun control laws were
made. Australia is an example that if we enforce gun laws the amount of mass shootings will
drop. Since 2013, there has been 242 school shootings, an average of nearly one a week.
Research states that these incidents resulted in 59 deaths and 124 non fatal injuries. Nearly one
in six of the shootings occurred after an argument intensified because of the presence of a gun
rather than in spite of it. Research also shows that more than half of the kids obtained a gun at
more (most likely because their guardian did not store it correctly.) In 2013 2015 there was 84 K

statistics show that the number of students killed on campus per year is approximately 15
homicides and 5 students annually in primary and secondary schools. In over half of the incidents
did the perpetrator intellionally injure/kill at least one other person with a gun (In eight of those
incidents, the shooter the shot and killed themselves.) Between 2013 and 2015, 56% were
perpetrated by minors. Research provides an extra reason that gun control is needed, because more

Internship Benefits For College Students
Introduction:
Having a college degree is no longer enough to ensure that you secure a job upon graduating
(Huhman, 2011). Therefore expanding your college experience through internship opportunities
will not only give you valuable work experience, you can make a significant impact using your
skills and abilities in causes you are passionate about. Increasingly, employers value candidates that
have the academic knowledge, leadership, and technical skills set that can be applied to solving
complex problems in science and industry to addressing world health, environmental, and conflict
crises.
Internships offer many advantages to college students. First, it is the best resource to develop the
skills employers seek (Florida International University, 2017). According to the US Department of
Labor, the skills set employers most look for are critical thinking skills, excellent communication
skills, and the ability to work in a team (Occupational Outlook Quaterly, 2016).
Second, internships enable students to apply classroom knowledge to real world problems,
strengthening skills, and acquiring experience that employers seek in a candidate (Florida
International University, 2017). When selecting candidates, employers look at three significant
factors, an applicant s field of study; a high GPA, leadership experience, and experience in their
field (NACE, 2016, p. 3). Additionally, internships enable students to work in their chosen career
path, giving them an insider s

The Snap ( Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program ) And...
The SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and WIC (Women, Infants, Children)
programs both have similar jobs. Both programs attempt to help feed struggling families. In the
past SNAP allowed members to purchase food staples and prepackaged food, but a recent bill is
being made in order to address these rules. These changes will deactivate members abilities to
purchase prepackaged food, and has limited them to purchase only food staples. These food
staples included foods such as rice, bread, fruits, etc. While the desired new rules for SNAP are
similar to the current rules of WIC, the bill will also attempt to allow members of WIC to purchase
white potatoes in addition to their food staples. Multiple commodities economic standing will
experience larger impacts on supply and demandfrom this proposed bill s changes and
implications. As SNAP shifts to strictly staple foods, the economic impacts will implement
changes on the supply and demand of rice. In the short run the price of rice will rise and the
demand curve of rice will shift outward. This effect will take place because of SNAP s proposed
limitations. If the members of SNAP are limited to only food staples they will find themselves
demanding more rice than before. This shift will cause an upward movement along the supply
curve. There will be an increase in the quantity of rice supplied in the long run because the demand
will have grown from the limitations placed on SNAP consumers that suppliers will have

A Dishonest Appeal
A dishonest appeal to emotion is when an author s verbiage triggers and engages the reader s
emotions. These emotions can be good or bad, happy or sad, and everything in between. This
leads the reader astray into believing wrongly or more strongly. An example of this is when an
author uses the word rights as opposed to privileges. Writing with an appeal to emotion is not
inherently immoral. It is often used as a mechanism to aid the reader s imagination in transforming
words into a vivid thought. It becomes dishonest when the author distorts the facts and truth to try
to persuade the reader. The change in words may seem trivial but it is purposeful. This is often
seen in the beginning of a court case when the judge is about to decide

2007-08 Recession
Causes of 2007 08 recession
The major causes of the great recession of 2007 8 were caused by the first subprime mortgages.
The Federal Reserve s failure to curb the unnecessary loans, taking too much risk, financial firms
acting recklessly, explosive mix of borrowing, missing a full comprehension of the financial
system and fissures in accountability formed the backbone of 2007 8 recessions. Moreover, during
2007 8, many financial institutions lower credit standards to accommodate the large demand for
loans securities with an ill intention to create huge profits to share which greatly became a source
for the economic recession during the 2007 8 err. The international trade imbalances and lax lending
contributed to the high levels leading to recession. Consequently, the recession was caused by the
significant increase in savings that were supposed to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Consequences of 2007 8 recessions
Unemployment
The recession of 2007 8 resulted in the great number of unemployment as illustrated previous by the
DKs curve that suggested an increase in unemployment leads to decreased inflation (Arnold, 2010).
Many people become jobless as the banks and other financial institutions started focusing over
injecting money into the economy. This problem was to be corrected by reducing government
expenditure. By doing so many people lost jobs and employment was greatly reduced.
Decline in the housing market
The recession greatly affected the housing investments as housing slump was set off. The investors
were unable to flip their homes for a quick profit. Also, the adjustable rates of mortgages were
increasing making it hard to get a mortgage.

What Is The Moral Of The Movie Fargo
Fargo directed by Joel and Ethan Coen is a dark comedy and tragedy which revolves around a
town Fargo, North Dakota. The plot focuses on Jerry Lundegaard, a car salesman who creates a

with Jerry meeting the kidnappers, Carl Showalter and Gaear Grimsrud, at a bar in Fargo. The
following day the pair kidnap Jerry s wife, Jean, and bring her to a cabin. However, they are
pulled over by a police trooper on their way there. Jean makes a noise from the back seat which
causes the trooper to take notice and in a panic, Gaear shoots the trooper in the head. Gaear soon
tracks down the couple who witnessed the murder and kills them. The next morning police chief
Marge Gunderson examines the scene of the crime and learns that the two men involved
checked into a nearby hotel with two girls. Marge later travels to Jerry s dealership and
questions him and he insists that no cars have gone missing. Later on Carl calls Jerry to demand
that the ransom be delivered that evening. Jerry s father in law insists on bringing the money
himself and drives to meet Carl. Jean s father demands that he sees Jean before he hands over the
money, which infuriates Carl. In a fit of rage Carl kills... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

compared to what has played out beforehand. I think Marge and Norm are the kindest characters
in the movie and provide a sense of comfort for the audience. In addition, Norm and Marge are a
better example of a happy and successful marriage because Norm s personality is more gentle and
kind unlike Jerry who hired someone to kidnap his wife in order to get

  • 2. Essay On Unobtainable Beauty Between movies, TV shows, magazines, and fashion everyday women are being bombarded with an ever present ideal and standard of unobtainable beauty. In today s society it is especially easy to stay connected to the media and the outside world through the internet and its various social networks. This kind of access provides a nonstop stream of womenbeing exposed to perfect bodies, perfect people, and what seems to be perfect lives. With the constant exposure to all of this it can be hard for women to not compare themselves to the people they see online, which can leave to devastating effects on the womans self esteem, self worth, and overall wellbeing. Marika Tiggemann and Jessica Lynch conducted a study where they found that body dissatisfaction remains as a constant for women throughout their lifespan and can impact a woman at any age (2011). Body dissatisfaction is something the majority of women have to deal with at some point or another, it is important to identify factors that can trigger this insecurity such as the media, celebrities, and subliminal advertising in order to bring more awareness to the issue and make changes that can lead a woman to having a healthier outlook on her outward appearance and an overall higher satisfaction with her body. With media being so accessible in today s world younger and younger people are logging on and being exposed to these unobtainable beauty standards. • 4. Emerson Thematic Statement Write a thematic statement for the essay Self Reliance . Explain how Emerson s idea of Self Reliance is different from and similar to the common use of the term (take care of your own needs and don t depend on others outside yourself). The essay Self Reliance is different from the definition of only thinking of one s own needs in the sense that Emerson explains that one should not only depend on themselves but to also not submit to the majority of ideas in society and obey by one s own beliefs. Emerson relates being independent or Self Reliant to the genuine feelings of an individual and how it should be taken pride of rather than pushed away by the conformities of society. Give 5 examples of figurative language and analyze how Emerson uses them to convey his message of self reliance (Hint: your analysis should link back to the purpose you mention in the thematic statement above). 1 Joint Stock Company: The meaning of this word is a company owned by multiple shareholders, but Emerson uses it in the sense of America being bound together through majority belief systems, but individual ideas should be recognized as well. 2 Sculpture: A sculpture is described as a carving of a 3D object, Emerson uses it as a term for explaining the memories that make a significant deal in society and being significant individually 3 Befriends: Acting like a friend, helping someone out, used by Emerson, he explains that befriending represents the good that is brought into the world ... • 5. The Joy Luck Club By Amy Tan A natural part of life and human nature is that bonds can end due to a difference in opinion. This is the case within the novel The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, as the American daughters of the China born mothers grow up in perpetual disconnect because of their cultural differences. Consequently, the daughters view of their mother s loveis distorted. Without a clear comprehension of their mother s love, which is shown in forms of her words and actions, the daughters are constantly haunted by life s difficulties. Thus, The Joy Luck Clubemphasizes that a bond between a mother and daughter is important because it provides an opportunity to understand a mother s love and subsequently, allows her to overcome the difficulties of life. This is illustrated through a mother s sacrifices providing hope, a mother s guidance overcoming sorrow, and a mother s wisdom protecting desires. To begin, daughters will overcome hopeless aspects of life if they understand her mother s sacrifice. Bitterness can overtake one s life; however sacrifices can be inspirational examples to combat it. When An Mei s mother suicides out of bitterness, An Mei learns to become one who is hopeful about life: I was falling from the sky down to the ground, into a pond. And I became a little turtle lying at the bottom of this watery place. [...] I was crying hard, so many tears, but they drank and drank, so many of them, until I had no more tears left and the pond was empty, everything as dry as sand (Tan 239). ... • 7. Effectiveness Of Public Services On Performance Management Andrews (2014) pulled together considerable amounts of research about performance management from around the world and came to four conclusions: 1. The effectiveness of public services can be enhanced by the use of performance management. Leading to, citizens benefitting from a positive impact and improved outcomes. 2. Efficiency savings are not always a direct result of performance management alone, if organisations want to save budgets they may need alternatives ideas. 3. Ground level performance measures prove most effective, however it is important to look at learning through comparisons with similar organisations, this allows healthy competition. 4. Where performance indicators widely have public support, such as NHS waiting times, is the area where performance management proves most effective in delivering improvements. However, performance management effectiveness may be influenced by several other factors including leadership and organisational culture. It is an fascinating time for performance management which is being closely questioned and looked at by those wanting to understand some of the the key challenges in practice, and how successful performance management is providing better outcomes for citizens. Outcomes are often defined as outcomes for effectiveness (improving how we do things) and outcomes for efficiency (doing things in a more cost effective way). (Wolf and Fry 2013). Both of these outcomes are central to the NHS performance framework. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Observation Of Elephants What species performs burials, has the ability to cry, and form many complex relationships throughout their lives? Elephants. Since many individuals might have guessed humans or primates first, this one question shows the complexity of this species. Transition This paper tries to answer one main question: How does elephantbehavior, both in captive and wild settings, provide data that can lead to evidence based practices for building captive enclosures, daily activities, and help with conservation practices, both in captivity and in the wild. For this discussion, I am going to focus on the family, Elephantidae, as a whole. Though some might argue that the genus Loxodonta (African) and Maximus (Asian) should be analyzed separately, I find the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is hard to create and provide hard evidence to support this ideal when there is not a linguistic way to communicate between humans and other species. For the purposes of this discussion I will use Breed and Moore s definition: Cognition is the ability of an animal to separate itself from the moment in which it is living and to contemplate the past, predict the future, and act accordingly (2016). Cognition experiments on elephants did not begin until the late 1950 s, starting with Rensch s study on memory. Since than scientist s have tested/ studied problem solving, rituals, emotions, deception, casual reasoning, tool making, and tool use within elephants with many having positive results (Plotnik et al., 2010). One aspect of cognition that has been tested in many primates in the recent years is the mirror self recognition test; this is considered the basic level of cognition. Plotnik and colleagues completed this test with three female elephants at the Bronx Zoo (2010). This test involves three stages, where each shows a level of recognition. Though none of the elephants passed the mark part of the test, they showed many other characteristics that indicated self recognition (that was in other species like chimpanzees and bottle nose dolphins). However, the discrepancy could be due to the way elephants identify one another: through touch, sounds, and smell, which a mirror cannot replicate (Plotnik et ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Similarities Between Equations And Inequalities In Algebra, we have been learning about Equations and Inequalities, and how you can solve them in the same ways. Though, They re both very similar and both very different in their own ways, which makes it difficult to find the differences. But, There are also many similarities between them. The way that the two are similar is that you can solve both problems the same way, for example: If you had 2x + 2 = 10 You d solve it by subtracting 2 with 10, which would result in an 8. 2x + 2 = 10 2x = 8 After this, you d divide 2 with 2, and 2 with 8, which would give you a 4. So the answer would be X = 4. So 4 would be the only answer. 2x + 2 = 10 2x = 8 X = 4 If you did this with an IneQuality, it would turn out the same, except if you divide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since its all numbers less than 4, we d have an open circle since it isn t equal to 4. And there s an arrow pointing towards the left since its all numbers less than 4. But, if it was all numbers greater than 4, it would be like this: 3 4 5 Despite the two having a couple differences and a couple similarities, both can be used in the world around us, since, depending on the symbol you use, you d still get the same answer nonetheless. However, there still are more differences between the two. Even if you do the Math equation the same, the symbols can cause the answer to shift, and make it so the two aren t the same. For example: If you used 12x + 6 = 6 (2x+1 ) You d start by multiplying the 6 by 2, since the 6 is next to a parenthesis symbol, which would give you 12, and you d multiply the 6 with 1, which would give you 6 in return. 12x + 6 = 6 (2x+1) 12x + 6 = 12x+6

  • 13. My Experience At My Church Have you ever felt like you were getting called upon to do something? I ve experienced this after my dad passed away. I felt God calling me to serve my church. I started to become more active in my church s faithful followers group. I felt God come into my life. I got the chance to go on this amazing tripthat changed my life around. I was sitting in my confirmation class on Sunday afternoon, when my teacher, Melanie, was talking about all the upcoming events. She had an eye catching video about the National Catholic Youth Conference or NCYC. The group from two years about created the video. They went into detail of what we d get out of the trip. The thing that stuck out the most was the unique feeling of God s presents. It was time to pay for our spot on this trip. The cost was $50, so you would have a seat on the bus. This frightened me because I didn t know if I wanted to go for sure. I was going to be around 200,000 other people, only seven being ones from my church. Preparing for this trip was time consuming. We had to dedicate all our free time this summer to setting up fundraisers. The trip was $510 per person. Our fundraising consisted of selling Pastry Puffins, bake sales, and 50/50 tickets. • 14. The Story behind Diamonds Diamonds are one of the most popular minerals in the world and yet people are not aware of the circumstances it takes to acquire this such unique mineral. Many people would agree when I say that this mineral is such a nice thing to look at, but few people actually know what it is made of and how it was formed. These precious minerals are composed of Carbon. The process to making this immaculate mineral is as following. First, you must bury Carbon dioxide deep into the earth; approximately, 100 miles deep. Second, you must heat the substance at a temperature of 2,200 degrees fahrenheit. Next, squeeze or tightly compact the substance under pressure of 725,000 pounds per square inch. Finally, it must quickly rush to the earths surface to cool off. All this must be done just to create diamond. Luckily for some men, scientist have created an alternative of the mined diamonds, it is a synthetic diamond composed of the same things and look almost identical. So if you re planning to pop the big question soon you have options with that part of the proposal. When you think of the price of real diamonds you might think that they are pretty expensive and what makes them so special. Along with its looks, it is a rare mineral that still has a high demand. The places where you can find high concentrations are usually far away. As a matter of fact, the location that has the largest concentration of diamonds is in central and southern Africa. These people absolutely dread going to work every week, the majority of them wishing they could be able to quit their jobs and chase after their passions. A highly credible philosophical professor named Dr. Gordon Marino, made an entire article arguing why it would be inadequate and unethical for someone to quit a job that is necessary in order to provide for something bigger than oneself, that working or indulging in comfortable positions makes people miss out on the traditional connection of talent and duty. In Dr.Marino s article, A Life Beyond Do What You Love , he creates an effective argument about the traditional standard of self fulfillment which is the capability of being able to avoid indulging in personal interests in order to serve something bigger than oneself. He builds his main argument by using anecdotes and hypophora s to introduce the central investigation of his article, then addresses strong counter arguments to his stance, and finally, uses highly credible historians to appeal ethically to the audience. He adopts a philosophical tone in order to appeal to similar experiences or thoughts his adult audience may have. As a result of this, modern architectureis no longer ornamentally focused but uses materials such as concrete, glass, steel and wood for functional construction. With reference to Le Corbusier and his architectural masterpiece, Ville Savoye, this essay will discuss and analyze the impact the industrial revolution had on modernism, the influence the Bauhaushad on architectural development, social and economical effects that influenced social trends, how modernism was received and reviewed by society and why the modernist dream ultimately failed. The State of Texas has 271 people on death row, the third most in America, but has executed the most people in the country. Twenty five people have been executed this year in the U.S.; twelve of those have been executed in Texas (Facts). The death penalty must be abrogated because it is an ineffective, antiquated, and expensive form of punishment. Punishment by death has been around since Babylonian times, when the Code of Hammurabi introduced it. Since then, it has not evolved other than becoming more of a life for a life proposition. Studies show that the death penalty does not deter crime. Laws that are punishable by death are premeditated. People who are willing to die committing crimes do them anyways. A life for a life is not justice it is revenge. In addition to being useless, the death penalty is also an antiquated form of castigation. The time preceding execution can be agony for an inmate. A (10:00) Question #1 A principle is a fundamental source or basis of something. A principle cannot be proven, because to prove something we have to go back to the basics and principle is basis of everything. Although, what most philosophers seem to be doing to prove the validity of their theories is by showing that if we accept something else as a principle it would make no sense. The Pre Socratic philosophers were all searching for that one fundamental principle of reality that everything is based on. That factor was called arche, which literally means beginning, origin or a source of something. The Pre Socratic philosophers are called that because they all came before Socrates, and he is a major figure in ancient philosophy, because he was the first person to develop it as a distinct kind of knowledge. Most of the early philosophers were looking for a materialistic arche. Thales of Miletus (624 546 BC) is considered to be the first philosopher and he considered water to be the fundamental principle of everything. He thought that all things were composed of water, because it could take all three forms (liquid, solid and gas). He also observed that all living things needed water to stay alive and grow. This criticism can be found to be viable or not by analysing what legal formalism as an approach to legal practice and judicial decisions is, whether the criticisms, created by legal realists and critical legal studies students, of legal formalism are justified and whether judicial decisions and legal education are still influenced by legal formalism today in South Africa. 2Legal formalism Legal formalism is a legal theory which believes that the law is to be determined rationally. It is a theory that is important when looking as various aspects of South African law. This approach is both literalist and formalist at the same time. A legal formalist belief in the determinacy of legal rules sees judges deciding cases on the basis of distinctively legal rules, uninfluenced by political or policy considerations. In the three centuries of religious oppression, voodoo became a symbol of pride and independence for the slaves. Any pride in a slave is, of course, regarded as a threat to the slave owner. Rumors of human sacrifice and devil worship became prevalent in the social circles of plantation owners and slave traders. These statements had no validity, but traveled quickly throughout the Caribbean and America. The practitioners of voodoo embraced this fear as means to frighten their former masters and gain some respect in a world where they were deprived of everything. Former slave owners quickly found themselves duped into the beliefs of voodoo dolls and hexes. Of course, many slave owners simply killed their slaves rather than be frightened by the voodoo. When one reads Richard III, they don t necessarily have to know a great deal about the War of Roses to understand that there is some serious strife going on. However, if the reader takes some time to understand this fascinating string of events, the story of Richard and his fall becomes much more interesting. In all of his brilliance, Shakespeare manages to toy with the idea of humor in this very morose play. As a matter of fact, he does this in many, if not all of his tragedies. ... After she exits, they all talk to each other, pretty much asking, what the heck was that all about? The next scene also has some prime examples of humor in this play. Here, two murderers are sent to kill Clarence. The text is so rich in indirectly describing the demeanor of these two, and the reader undoubtedly chuckles when reading the dialogue between the two of them. Primarily, the reader sees this in lines 110 115: I ll go back to the duke of Gloucester and tell him so. / Please, just wait a minute. I m hoping my holy mood will pass. / It usually only lasts about twenty seconds. / How are you feeling now? / Actually, I m still feeling some pangs of conscience. / Even in modern times, the idea of a conscience coming and going instead of being unwavering is funny. Even funnier is the thief being aware of this, and saying, hang on, it ll pass , as if his holy conscience were a case of bad gas or something like that. Further on, the two murderers talk about conscience, and how nobody would listen to it even if it flew out of a wallet. Of course, no Shakespeare play would be complete without the use of puns. Shakespeare uses this type of humor as a witty way to keep the dialogue fresh and flowing. The reader gets a taste of these funny little bits as early as the first act and first scene, when Brakenbury starts, With this, my lord, myself have naught to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the book, imagery is portrayed by the author to make people feel like they are in the character s shoes, specifically where Samantha is drifting off to sleep in her mom s car. The in depth description of Samantha dozing off to sleep looking out of the window is described in this quote, I watch the highway lights, my eyelids sinking, then the summer streetlights as the roads get smaller and smaller, closer to home (Fitzpatrick 283). No one is allowed to harm another s life, liberty, health and possessions. Locke exclaims how one man does not hold a higher status than another man. With that being said, a man must learn how to preserve the rest of mankind. Every man has the right to initiate punishment and be executioner of the law of nature . Speaker: I personal don t think the Alchemist was titled solely because of the character. The Alchemist is an ancillary annselary character in the book, but the emphasis of the title is the symbolic meaning of alchemy transforming one element to another of more value. It represents the process of purifying one s character, to eliminate the bad, leaving the final result of a person with integrity. Radio Host: Integrity really is a prominent quality in many characters in the novel. It s what makes Santiago such an intriguing character, and you witness his development as the book progresses. Did he waver in his integrity at any point? Speaker: Generally, any good character with depth in personality will face some sort of opposition that leaves them a bit dumbfounded causing them to doubt their instinct. I d say the first major conflict that Santiago faced was the incident where he misplaced trust and was robbed of all his gold. At this point he gave up hope, and took on the notion that his dreams were distant and unachievable. Even after he was able to continue his quest, the fear of failure made him hesitant. Without this use of colour change the audience would find it more difficult to tell that the hero experienced a radical journey from a general to a slave to a gladiator, then a hero. As the trailer begins, slow images combined with Written Words are used to give the target audience time to familiarise themselves with the story of Maximus. For example the first few shots are of Russell Crowe as a general, then a slave, then a gladiator. This makes it clear to the audience who the main character is and helps to set the scene. Then the images start to become faster and more exciting. This is achieved by using rapid cuts which increases the viewer s excitement. For example the viewer now sees images of sword fights, fierce tigers and overturned chariots. A shot of a chariot overturning and the image of a horse jumping through flames have also been included, but slowed down because they are exciting stunts and the director doesn t want the audience to miss them. Also by encapsulating a shot of Commodus screaming at his sister the audience can tell that the film will be dramatic. However, evidence shows that when a Y chromosome becomes functionless species are readily capable to adapt to male less conditions (Marvan et al., 2005). Studies of the Y chromosome have shown the importance of mapping out its evolutionary history in order to better understand why the Y chromosome looks and functions the way it does. Its divergence outside of the monotremes showed that primates have ancestral Y chromosome relationships with earlier mammals that independently evolved from other sex chromosome. Similarly, the variation of male specific genes, such as DAZ, display how significant the modification of the Y chromosome truly can be. Jean makes a noise from the back seat which causes the trooper to take notice and in a panic, Gaear shoots the trooper in the head. Gaear soon tracks down the couple who witnessed the murder and kills them. The next morning police chief Marge Gunderson examines the scene of the crime and learns that the two men involved checked into a nearby hotel with two girls.
